2024.06.02 08:12 Torvaloslus Are ismaili muslim women "halal" to date?

Theres this pakistani chick in one of my classes whos really pretty and hot and this past weeks we got paired for a performance task project. i got to be partner so we got to talk and spend together. She even invited me to her house so we could do the project there her parents are also real chill folks family oriented and stuff and im surprised theyre okay with their daughter hanging out with a non muslim guy (probably cuz she told them were just class partners but still). Its when we spent time that i found out we got alot in common and have same likes so we kinda hit it off. I didnt even know she was muslim cuz she didnt wear hijab and dressed very western fashion but she does has an arabic name her house got alot of caligraphy artwork idk if its arabic or urdu but one sign did have Allah symbol on them. I asked them if shes muslim thats where she said yes but theyre not like most muslims at first i didnt know what it meant till i heard her parents going to a jammat. So i looked it up and got ismaili muslim mosque results.

Sober Song #202
Lonely Dance - Set It Off

Today was very low-key. I got up early to make a yoga class, but didn’t do much else that involved being out and about. Once I was back home, I just had a long afternoon nap and then got up to do some house cleaning projects that I had been neglecting for a while. I had one invite to go out and do something, but I just wanted to keep doing what I was already working on. It’s good to be social and I talk about connecting with others a lot in these posts. Community is important for maintaining sobriety. I think it is also important to allow myself chill days and alone time when I want it. “Lonely Dance” is more specifically about staying in due to social anxiety, but I don’t think I’m necessarily anxious when I feel like “Some days the world is way too loud”. If I am anxious, I think it’s fine not to force it. I especially don’t see any value in spending valuable time on “phony friends I don't need”. And if I don’t want to go out, that’s reason enough, just like not wanting to drink is perfectly sufficient as an explanation for why I don’t (“I do my little lonely dance / I don't need you to understand”). Sometimes I want to go do something exciting, other times I just want to stay in my room and have a cuddle nap with my pets (“'Cause it's my kind of party / My room is where my heart is”). I feel like being sober has increased my ability to be honest about what I want to do and not do while worrying less about how other people judge that (“These days I'm good, these days I'm fine / These days I'd rather pay no mind”).

One step forward, one step backwards
One step forward, one step backwards

Some days I'm up, some days I'm down
Some days the world is way too loud
Some days my bed won't let me out
But I'm okay with missin'...

Out on the social anxiety
Out on the phony friends I don't need
So I just turn off my phone and turn on TV
'Cause solo's the only way I can breathe
So I just, so I just...

Do my little lonely dance
Performing for my only fan
'Cause it's my kind of party
My room is where my heart is
I do my little lonely dance
I don't need you to understand
And there's no way I'm stoppin'
It's like nobody's watching
As I do my little lonely dance

One step forward, one step backwards
One step forward, one step backwards

These days I'm good, these days I'm fine
These days I'd rather pay no mind
Silence is in town, keep her around (You should)
And you'll be glad you're missing…

Out on the social anxiety
Out on the phony friends I don't need
So I just, turn off my phone and turn on TV
'Cause solo's the only way I can breathe
So I just, so I just...

Do my little lonely dance
Performing for my only fan
'Cause it's my kind of party
My room is where my heart is
I do my little lonely dance
I don't need you to understand
And there's no way I'm stoppin'
It's like nobody's watching
As I do my little lonely dance

One step forward, one step backwards
One step forward, one step backwards

All I need is me, myself, and I
(One step forward, one step backwards)
All I need is me, myself, and I
(One step forward, one step backwards)
All I need is peace and quiet
Shhh... that's better

Some days I'm up, some days I'm down
Some days the world is way too loud
Some days my brain's locking me out
So I just…

Do my little lonely dance
Performing for my only fan
'Cause it's my kind of party
My room is where my heart is
I do my little lonely dance
I don't need you to understand
And there's no way I'm stoppin'
It's like nobody's watching
As I do my little lonely dance

I do my little lonely dance
I do my little lonely dance
Like nobody's watching
I do my little lonely dance
(One step forward, one step backwards)
I do my little lonely dance
(One step forward, one step backwards)
I do my little lonely dance
Like nobody's watching
I do my little lonely dance

Pushing yourself to get out there and try new things is good, but it doesn’t have to be every day. It’s okay to do your own thing. IWNDWYT <3

REVEALED: Manchester United’s FA Cup win inspired by a Security Officer
Manchester United won the FA Cup last week against their local rivals, Manchester City. The Red Devils secured a 2-1 win in a thrilling match at Wembley Stadium. This triumph surprised many, as Manchester United was considered the underdog in this encounter. However, an unexpected source of inspiration significantly impacted their success.
In the days before the big match, Manchester United's manager, Erik ten Hag, was determined to find a way to motivate his team. Understanding the importance of morale and unity, Ten Hag sought an unconventional method to inspire his players. He turned to a member of the club's Security Team for help.
According to reports from The Athletic, Ten Hag spent time walking around the Carrington training ground with the Security Officer, learning about her background and experiences. Her story deeply moved him, prompting him to ask her to share it with the team in a recorded video.
In the video, the Security Officer recounted her experiences in the military. She spoke about a harrowing day in Afghanistan when she and her platoon were trapped in a village. Despite the dire situation, they worked together to escape, although some of her colleagues did not survive. Her story highlighted the importance of teamwork and solidarity, resonating deeply with the players.
The heartfelt message had a powerful impact on the squad. Her bravery and the lessons of unity and perseverance inspired the players. This unique approach to motivation helped the team focus and come together for the crucial match.
Manchester United's Memorable Victory On the day of the match, the atmosphere was electric. Manchester United faced a formidable opponent in Manchester City, but they were ready for the challenge. The game was intense initially, with both teams fighting hard for the prestigious FA Cup trophy.
Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were the day's heroes, each scoring a goal that led Manchester United to their remarkable 2-1 victory. The team’s performance was a testament to their determination and the inspiration they drew from the Security Officer’s story.
After the final whistle, the United players discovered that the Security Officer was on duty in the Royal Box at Wembley. In a heartwarming gesture, they invited her down to the dressing room to thank her personally for her inspiring words. It was a moment of gratitude and recognition for her contribution to their success.
This victory brought joy to the fans and highlighted the power of unity and inspiration. Erik Ten Hag's decision to involve a security team member in motivating the players proved to be a masterstroke. The story of their FA Cup win will be remembered for years to come as a testament to the power of unconventional inspiration.

RESEARCH SUGGESTS LEADERS’ SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS ARE TAKEN JUST AS SERIOUSLY AS FORMAL STATEMENTS

Over 180 world leaders maintain social media accounts, and some of them issue policy warnings to rivals and the public on these platforms rather than relying on traditional government statements. How seriously do people take such social media postings? A new study suggests the general public and policymakers alike take leaders’ social media posts just as seriously as they take formal government statements. The research, by MIT political scientists, deploys novel surveys of both the public and experienced foreign policy specialists. “What we find, which is really surprising, across both

PRONATALISM IS THE LATEST SILICON VALLEY TREND. WHAT IS IT—AND WHY IS IT DISTURBING?

For Malcolm and Simone Collins, declining birth rates across many developed countries are an existential threat. The solution is to have “tons of kids,” and to use a hyperrational, data-driven approach to guide everything from genetic selection to baby names and day-to-day parenting. They don’t heat their Pennsylvania home in winter, because heating is a “pointless indulgence.” Their children wear iPads around their necks. And a Guardian journalist witnessed Malcolm strike their two-year-old across the face for misbehavior, a parenting style they apparently developed based on watching “tigers

Nearly 100 years later, in the most recent Olympics, the delayed 2020 Games in Tokyo, Caeleb Dressel took home the same event with a time that was 12 seconds faster than Weissmuller’s. Swimming times across the board have become much faster over the past century, a result of several factors, including innovations

BANNING SEX CRIME OFFENDERS FROM CHANGING THEIR NAMES DOESN’T MAKE US SAFER

The government of British Columbia recently introduced a bill to ban people convicted of serious offenses from legally changing their name. The proposed amendment to the province’s Name Act would also prohibit those found not criminally responsible due to mental disorder from changing their name. The government announced the move after media reports that Allan Schoenborn legally changed his name to Ken Johnson. Schoenborn was found not criminally responsible for the deaths of his children in 2010 because of a delusional disorder, and was placed at a psychiatric hospital.

SILICON VALLEY ISN’T THE START-UP UTOPIA WE THOUGHT, RESEARCH FINDS

Silicon Valley—considered the world’s hub of technology and innovation—can breed inequality and sameness among budding entrepreneurs, according to new research. Behind the multi-million-dollar deals and tales of start-up utopia, Silicon Valley’s “uneven” investment landscape is in fact a barrier to many budding businesses, says the study from the University of Stirling and Georg-August-University Göttingen. But the researchers suggest other countries could still learn from the more discerning entrepreneurial ecosystem that bred giants such as Apple and Google, to be more selective in backing start-ups. While it is not uncommon for

I WANT TO KEEP MY CHILD SAFE FROM ABUSE—BUT RESEARCH TELLS ME I’M DOING IT WRONG

Child sexual abuse is uncomfortable to think about, much less talk about. The idea of an adult engaging in sexual behaviors with a child feels sickening. It’s easiest to believe that it rarely happens, and when it does, that it’s only to children whose parents aren’t protecting them. This belief stayed with me during my early days as a parent. I kept an eye out for creepy men at the playground and was skeptical of men who worked with young children, such as teachers and coaches. When my kids were

Sexting—sending sexually suggestive or explicit messages and images—is now a widespread practice, and can be a healthy way to express and explore sexuality. However, there is a need to distinguish between consensual sexting and forms of sexual harassment like cyberflashing. Cyberflashing refers to the act of non-consensually sending sexual imagery (like nudes or “dick pics”) to another person. It is facilitated through communications technologies including text, AirDrop and social media applications like Snapchat and Tinder. The paper’s authors, UC Santa Cruz Psychology Department faculty members Phil Hammack and Adriana Manago, identified five main narratives about gender and sexuality that they believe emerged through social media as people have strived to be “authentic” on these platforms. The findings, along with resulting recommendations for psychology researchers and practitioners, were

KEY FACTORS IN TRAINING ASSESSORS FOR ENHANCED PERFORMANCE RATINGS

New research is examining how organizations can improve their training programs by customizing frame-of-reference training to emphasize identifying negative behaviors critical to their goals. While assessors naturally identify positive behaviors, C. Allen Gorman, Ph.D., associate professor in UAB’s Department of Management, Information Systems and Quantitative Methods, says targeted training helps them recognize harmful actions that can hinder organizational objectives. Involving assessors in defining important performance dimensions and examples of behaviors, both good and

STUDIES CHALLENGE WIDELY HELD BELIEFS ON APPLICANT DIVERSITY AND WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE

Justin Frake is interested in cause-and-effect relationships in real-world data and the hidden dynamics that shape workplace behavior and equality—or inequality, as the case might be. His curiosity has led to research that challenges some popular beliefs as well as published studies related to women in the workforce. One study shows that firms promoting flatter hierarchies inadvertently discourage female applicants and another study counters several recent studies that claim women CEOs negatively impact career outcomes of other women. Both are published in the Strategic Management Journal. The assistant professor of

CHALLENGING LEWIN’S MOTIVATIONAL CONFLICTS THEORY

A recent series of experiments challenges the longstanding theory of motivational conflict resolution introduced by Kurt Lewin. According to Lewin, conflicts between two undesirable outcomes (avoidance–avoidance conflicts) are typically harder to resolve than those between two desirable ones (approach–approach conflicts). Lewin posited that avoidance–avoidance conflicts, where individuals must choose between two undesirable outcomes, are typically more challenging to resolve compared to approach–approach conflicts, which involve choosing between two desirable options.

MEN WITH ‘TOXIC MASCULINITY’ ARE MORE LIKELY TO MAKE SEXUAL ADVANCES WITHOUT CONSENT, STUDY FINDS

No means no when it comes to sex. But what happens when a woman makes a more passive response to a sexual advance? According to new research from Binghamton University, men differ in how they interpret these types of responses, and men who display hostile masculinity, known commonly as “toxic masculinity,” tend to act on them regardless of whether or not they think it’s consensual. A team of researchers, including Binghamton psychology professor Richard Mattson and graduate student Michael Shaw asked men between the ages of 18–25 to respond to

WHY WE DEHUMANIZE OUR POLITICAL OPPONENTS

Some of human history’s greatest atrocities—genocide, slavery, ethnic cleanings—are rooted in our ability to dehumanize people from other social, political, or cultural groups. Whereas prior research has traced dehumanization to the belief that others think or feel less than we do, new research co-authored by Haas professor Sameer Srivastava shows that our tendency to dehumanize can also be influenced by how we think others view important facets of the world. The greater the difference between our perceptions of an outgroup’s worldview

STUDY SUGGESTS CHILDREN ARE OFTEN EXPOSED TO PROBLEMATIC CLICK BAIT DURING YOUTUBE SEARCHES

When a child peruses YouTube, the content recommended to them is not always age appropriate, a new study suggests. Researchers mimicked search behaviors of children using popular search terms, such as memes, Minecraft and Fortnite, and captured video thumbnails recommended at the end of each video. Among the 2,880 thumbnails analyzed, many contained problematic click bait, such as violence or frightening images, according to the Michigan Medicine led research in JAMA Network Open. “Children spend a significant amount of time on free video sharing platforms that include user-generated content,” said

STUDY FINDS WOMEN ARE VULNERABLE IN POST-WAR PEACE PROCESSES

Post-war peace processes are a dangerous period for women. Many are forced to live close to men who committed serious abuse during the war or are expected to testify in various types of truth commissions, which can be both retraumatizing and stigmatizing. These are the findings of a new study by peace researchers at Uppsala University, published in the journal PLOS ONE. “In short, peace projects can force women to live side by side with ex-combatants who committed atrocities during the war. HOW EMBRACING THE CRINGE CAN HELP YOUR DATING LIFE

We can all agree that dating is hard. Getting to know people can feel vulnerable, but at the same time, exciting. We can also agree that feeling rejected can be one of the worst feelings, especially after we put ourselves out there. Dating can also expose us to a lot of cringey things, maybe even something we didn’t know we’d consider cringey. Think of cringe like something that makes you uncomfortable, or something about someone else that you don’t find attractive. Before dating, most of us consider what we’re looking

2024.06.02 05:17 Plastic_Ad7341 Akademiks/Drake/Travis/Kanye Schizo Thread

I’m not the best at this but hear me out.
EDIT I FORGOT THIS -Drake even has an unreleased song where he says”Real Shit, Kylie Jenner as a side piece, I got 20 damn Kylies”
EDIT AND THIS -Drake apologizes for the song later, but still weird to say that about a girl who you first met when you were a grown ass man and she was a minor?
In Conclusion IF the rapper beefing with Drake is Travis Scott it’s probably because of Kylie, if Drake smashed Kylie before/during/afte her relationship with Travis, he’s a certified pedophile. He doesn’t want the public to know that though, that’s why he removed Travis sub in Push Ups, we weren’t supposed to hear that, along with the Diddy line. There’s a leak in OVO, and that’s why the Travis beef is “secret”
Thank you to everyone who read through this, I apologize for it being a bit unorganized, I’ll add photos/tweets as evidence for the stuff in here soon. If I made a mistake/missing something lmk. If someone can make a shorter TDLR version that’s be appreciated ✌🏾.
UPDATE:Akademiks confirms the secret rapper is Travis right as I post this 😂

The boys for the past few months has been very vocal on their interest in attending the coachella this coming 2025. Due to this, I tried to read and research about what qualifications does an artist need to pass in order for them to get invited in this music festival. I read some of it on the internet and even here on reddit na ito pala yung mga qualifications: 1. maraming experience sa Festivals local or international—malaking points din pag ang artist laging Festival Headliner, 2. madaming experience sa concert—artist’s own concerts again local or international, 3. Live Performance Contents, 4. Fandom Impact and Social media Engagements (at least 1 million followers on all social media accounts)
Based doon sa mga qualifications, I believe na the boys checked all these factors. For the past few months and even in the future, they have been ramping on their participation on numerous music festivals as headliners; sold out concerts, both national and international; fandom impact also, kaka 1 million lang nila sa IG; live performance contents, the boys are well-known for their monster live vocals... but majority of the people are still in doubt na makakasali talaga sila.
I would like to ask, what do you think would impede the boys from ever being invited to perform on coachella?

2024.06.02 04:36 Biggest_Lemon Gossip, Hypocrisy, and Awkward Wedding That Keep Happening

Back in college, the TTRPG club was pretty large, and the cast of players and GMs in any given game changed all the time. “Campaigns” didn’t last longer than a semester. Bobcat and I met in this club. She was one of my closest friends in college, and we gamed together all the time. Never in a long term campaign, though, mostly one shots or mini-campaigns over school breaks. Because of this, I never saw how controlling, hypocritical, and mean Bobcat could be.
You see, in every social group, Bobcat needed someone to be angry at. Someone to complain about, make fun of, and turn others against. To justify her need to rage. During school, this was always other players in the long campaigns she was in or people that she lived with. I never saw that side of her.
Until, after college, the target became me.
Fast forward a few years after college. I’m in an online TTRPG group that meets twice a week for different games; some players play in both campaigns, others play in just one. The important ones are three college friends (Labrador, Bluejay, and Snake) and one highschool friend of mine (Hawk). When the campaign that I ran wrapped up and a new one was about to start, I missed hanging out with Bobcat, so I invited her in. A few months later, Bluejay invited her to the game that he* was running. That was around when the horror really started.
First, the At-The-Table Horror:
If this had been it… well, it would be a horror story for sure, but it wouldn’t be a horror story I still feel compelled to write about. The worst parts are everything that was going on around the games.
About a year and some change after Bobcat joined the online group, Labrador and I started dating. It wasn’t until after we were married (a few years later) that Bluejay confided in us that Bobcat had been saying I was “bad for [Labrador]” behind our backs, and didn’t approve of our relationship. Bluejay defended me, and that seemed to get Bobcat to soften up, so he didn’t bring it up to us until after the even bigger rift opened.
Then, for life reasons, Hawk needed to move to a new state, and decided to move to Bobcat’s city to start a new chapter of life. They had met in our group, and become good friends online. When this started, the rift between Bobcat and I was growing, and I was low-key worried that Bobcat would try to turn Hawk, my oldest friend, against me. I don’t know what I would do if she did.
Then came Wedding Two: Electric Boogaloo. This one was Bobcat’s wedding. As with mine, we had been given invitations well before our big rift at the table, and it was only the dimmest hope of salvaging our friendship (and avoiding the faux-pas of saying you will go, and then changing your mind after a fight) that Labrador and I went. It felt even more awkward than ours did, and I would have felt alienated if it weren’t for the fact that there were lots of old college friends attending that I was able to catch up with. Among other things, it was the first time I got to see Hawk in a long while. She was actually one of Bobcat’s bridesmaids, which is what made what happened next so… intense.
Earlier this year, during Hawk’s birthday weekend, she wanted to have a big online hang (if you have ever heard of a PowerPoint Party, that was part of it). The entire gaming group was there, but Bobcat was not. This immediately stuck out to me, since as far as I was aware, Hawk and Bobcat were close IRL friends, living pretty close to each other. I hated the idea of Bobcat not being invited to this just because of me, and that our beef might put pressure on Hawk, so I asked her about it.
It turns out, I was right! I was right about everything! Hawk had decided to distance herself from Bobcat and eventually end their friendship outright because of how toxic Bobcat really was. Apparently, Bobcat would go on rants about Bluejay and I, both in person and online, about her experiences in the group, but always the incredibly one-sided, self-righteous version that Hawk knew wasn’t true. When Hawk decided to take a road trip with Bluejay, Bobcat wrote this horrible series of twitter posts about it, saying that Hawk was “under [Bluejay’s] spell”, painting him as some kind of abuser, when Bluejay is actually a big marshmallow wouldn’t hurt a fly.
That wasn’t the full extent of Bobcat’s toxicity, but the rest isn’t really relevant. Suffice it to say: Hawk wasn’t having any of it, and she chose to cut Bobcat out for herself. My mind went back to the people in college that Bobcat would talk smack about, and turned people against. Were any of them that bad? Maybe they weren’t. Maybe they were just like me, and they were just the easy targets for Bobcat’s attacks, I don’t know.
That conversation with Hawk was in January. You might ask “OP, why do you feel compelled to write about this after so much time?” Well, it’s because Labrador and I are about to go to another wedding in a few months, the wedding of an old college roommate. Bobcat is definitely invited and probably attending. Most of the guests that I know from school are going to be mutual friends with Bobcat, and most of what we had in common was our experience with the gaming club. It will easily be the most awkward of the three, and I honestly don’t know if I’m going to live to tell the tale.
TL;DR: A friend reveals her true colors at the gaming table, tries to alienate members of the group that she can’t control, and keeps running into me at weddings.
*Side note: Bluejay is a nonbinary person that, while accepting of male pronouns, is still outspoken about being not-cis and having gender dysphoria, even back then. While this fact is not essential to the story, it was an added sting for Bobcat to make a gender-based attack on Bluejay while also doing all of this performative allyship online. In her various twitter rants since, Bobcat has only ever referred to Bluejay as a man, because Bluejay being NB doesn’t suit her narrative.

Balcones Baby Blue Review
I’m going to open up this review with some production information, for those interested, otherwise you can skip further down. A big thanks to the customer service team and distillers at Balcones for answering my questions! All of the following quotes, except for the final quote, in this review are from my email with Balcones.
Balcones’ Baby Blue corn whisky (without the E as is Balcones’ preference) starts its life as home grown West Texas hopi blue corn. (In earlier years, it was a mix of West Texas blue corn and New Mexico roasted blue corn. Though, in the beginning it was only New Mexico roasted blue corn.) It is then roasted, mashed, and fermented. Quoting the distiller: “Balcones does long/acidic 7 day fermentations, open to the Waco air, to encourage fruit character and to invite the microflora of Texas to get involved and put their thumbprint on our process.”
American whisk(e)ys and Bourbons put a big emphasis on yeast whereas Scotch producers put their weight behind their water source, the island distilleries often emphasizing their peat-rich water. Balcones’ proofing water comes from the limestone rich Balcones Fault Line, as shown artistically rendered in their logo. This aquifer is otherwise known as The Edwards Aquifer, a water source serving many public and private institutions as well as almost two million individuals in south central Texas.
Balcones uses two different types of yeast in their whiskys. Their single malt receives dry malt whisky yeast alongside dry ale yeast. Their corn and rye whiskys only get the dry malt whisky yeast. The reason behind this they noted was that “The malt whisky yeast honors the flavor of the base grain very well, making sure we get rich grainy notes that highlight our quality roasted blue corn.”
I did not ask about the distillation process. I know more about Scotch distillation and was unprepared to inquire, not wanting to force a teaching moment for an already busy distiller. However, Balcones noted that Baby Blue is always “double copper pot batch distilled.” (Try saying that three times fast!) The off the still proof varies between 65-68% ABV and is then barreled around 57-60% ABV. However, please note that this number may vary as they “customize the entry proof of each fill to the estimated impact of the oak compounds remaining in a used barrel and the character of the new make in question.”
This brings us to the barrels. Baby Blue would otherwise, I believe, have been considered a Bourbon except that it is aged in used barrels, which consist of a mix of Balcones’ own (225-240 liter capacity) as well as undisclosed used KY Bourbon barrels (200 liters). Balcones’ own used barrels (heavy toast char #3) appear to be the former homes of quite the mix of various distillates: “ex-rye, ex-bourbon, ex-malt, ex-corn.”
My bottle of Baby Blue was aged for “at least 12 months.” Earlier bottlings were aged for “at least 6 months,” whereas, the distiller noted, the last two years they have consistently blended and bottled Baby Blue only at 24+ months.
Now on to the bottle itself! Let it sit in your glass a little and experience as this wonderful whisky opens up.
First/Second Pour Nose: Initially, in the neck pour, all I got was a bit of a metalic note when I stuck my nose in the glass, an experience unique to the first dram after opening. But with some time, the little robot bloomed out of my tulip glass, giving way to banana and cream, vanilla icing, caramel, along with a doughy, oat-like character. After a few minutes, a citrus note poked its head out. From there you can toe the line, dipping into the citrus, then the oats as you please. Given a little more time, a light toffee emerges distinct from the earlier darker caramel, providing a pleasant background hum alongside fully integrated notes, in which citrus turns to spice and the doughy oat gives way to roasted, creamy corn. Though the notes are still only a handful, the presentation, performance, and quality of those few are what hold you.
Third Pour Initial Nose: The previous notes hold, with the difference that the metallic note disappeared; the whisky opens on the nose with an explosion of caramel and corn, which shift like billowing curtains to occasionally flash you glimpses of a crisp red apple behind them.
Palate: The palate is filled with caramel and corn. The beginning to mid-palate is strung through with a ripe peach of sorts, giving way to more caramel and roasted corn on a lengthy finish, which linger like old friends.
Overall, a lovely whisky and great value for the price!
Another famous corn whiskey is Mellow Corn (4 years old, bottled in bond) which is, according to Heaven Hill “at least 80 percent corn,” whereas Baby Blue is 100% (hopi blue) corn—both corn whisk(e)ys are aged in used oak barrels. Though both are considered “corn whisk(e)ys,” don’t confuse these two as they share few similarities outside their categorical marker.
This is not the most complex whisky. And though not a jack of all trades in the flavor department, what it does well, it does superbly.
Please note, this is not like a bourbon. You will not find your usual bourbon notes making themselves known in the absence of the rye/wheat and barley. Instead, take this as an experiment in seeing what truly wonderful things corn can get up to when left to its own devices, with some expert supervision, that is. This is unlike any other whisk(e)y I’ve had and wholeheartedly recommend it.
No coloring. Non chill-filtered 46% ABV Aged at least 12 months in oak batch: BB21-2 Bottle date: 11.18.21

Chapter 247: Subjective Mercy
Dawn was a novelty to Renise.
Not because she was a late riser. On the contrary, she readily woke up before even the alley cats of Reitzlake. And they were nothing if not prompt in securing their territory.
It’s just that any dawn was hard to admire while she was crawling beneath the streets.
That’s not to say she didn’t get to see anything just as glamorous, though. In the sewers beneath the cracked cobblestone of Pennyvale Road and Sipton Corner, she often saw enough stolen gold tucked away to form a sight brighter than any morning.
And once, she even found a die with 20 sides. She thought that was very interesting.
Thus, even as the sun peeked across the horizon, Renise barely paid any attention. Especially as doing so would remind her of exactly how many hours it’d been since she last slept.
But she had no right to complain.
After all–
“Hoooph!”
The guards requisitioned to her service couldn’t.
Even now, their eyes were as wide as when she’d brought them here. And not all of it from shame that a large smuggling operation had taken place upon their doorstep.
They wiped sweat from their brows as they hauled the proceeds of crime from the depths of tunnels, the corners of barns and the hidden hatches found between them. All the while, Renise was there to assist, searching each nook and cranny to ensure that every mug rimmed with cobwebs and filled with pilfered gemstones was recovered.
The result was a sight grander than the pale light stretching across the horizon. A veritable mountain of recovered goods, stacked in semi-organised fashion in the centre of the farmstead.
No fields of wheat grew as of yet. But that didn’t mean there was no golden gleam.
The chests of crowns in Baroness Arisa’s chamber was the mainstay of the haul. A cursory examination placed the amount grand enough to purchase half a castle outright. But Renise knew it wasn’t a castle the baroness had wanted. It was a kingdom–and more.
That’s what the rest of the goods were for.
Sacks and crates unending. Enough grain and foodstuffs to last many winters and more. Had she wished to, the baroness could have sheltered in her hole and sat through whatever calamity she’d wished to trigger. Or she could have used it in lieu of gold when stomachs were empty and hearts were hard, to feed crowds of rioting commoners or the loyalty of wavering soldiers.
A scheme as audacious as it was unlikely. And thus very much devised by nobility.
Renise understood that well.
Just as she understood that nobility rarely allowed themselves to dream of an empire without guarantees in place. And she intended on querying what they were, and who had offered them.
Turning from the mound of gathered items, she made her way over to the girl huddling beside the steps of her stolen and dilapidated manor.
With her knees up, arms wrapped around them and face buried in said arms for good measure, Baroness Arisa Sandholt was less a noblewoman fallen at the final hurdle of a grand scheme and more a girl who had not been told ‘no’ enough times to understand the consequences of her actions.
And there would be many. More than her hands could hope to manage.
After all–
Renise had read Juliette’s judgement.
The former noblewoman approached the girl under guard. She nodded at the tired watchers. And when they left to join their colleagues in taxing their shoulders, she knelt down to look at the kingdom’s most recent shadow of Lady Lucina Tolent.
And what a poor one it was.
Still, Renise grimaced on the baroness’s behalf.
Despite recent events, she held little personal acrimony towards her. Neither smuggling nor treason were new concepts, after all. The scale was grander than what remained of the plots in the royal capital. But this simply meant more bureaucracy. Renise would live. And so would the baroness, should she not recklessly throw away what the princess’s mercy was willing to offer.
Mercy, of course, being subjective.
Still kneeling beside her, Renise attempted to peer past the buried face, almost akin to a teacher with a sulking child.
Then, she sighed.
“Baroness Arisa Sandholt. It is demeaning for you to remain like this. If nothing else, I invite you to sit upon the steps. There’s no need to dirty yourself upon the soil. Particularly as it’ll be some time before we’re finished here.”
Renise waited for an acknowledgement. Or more preferably a finger pointing out the hidden corners she’d doubtless missed.
She received nothing. And so she resigned herself to however many nights it’d require to fully empty out the tunnels.
This, also, was nothing new to her.
“... Uuuuh …”
All of a sudden, a weak, pitiable groan came from the baroness, still unseen behind her knees.
Renise wasn’t certain what to do other than hope for a follow-up. When it didn’t arrive, she instead brushed down her maid’s uniform of any dirt, before promptly undoing it by taking a seat beside the baroness, knees up and thoroughly uncomfortable.
“I notice the grounds are quite extensive,” she said lightly. “An impressive thing you’ve built, for one whose family lineage is pouring ales. May I ask how the career change to smuggling came about?”
No sound met her, other than the huffing of the beleaguered guards as they toiled like farmers beneath the sun.
Renise leaned in to pluck a leaf from the baroness’s hair.
She responded by slowly falling onto her side, still with her face buried around her legs. A perfect imitation of a shrivelled up caterpillar. Renise had a feeling the princess would have commented. She herself kindly chose not to.
For now.
“... Uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhh …”
Again, a weak groan of despair filled the crisp air alight with the early dawn.
Again, Renise wasn’t sure what the correct response was.
She’d known many members of the nobility to have fallen while clutching themselves in agony, most often after being rejected to a dance. And yet as emotionally damaging as those instances were, they paled in comparison to the distress of having her private gallery revealed to the same princess her portraits consisted of.
But it could have been worse.
She wasn’t sure how. But it could have been.
“Baroness Arisa,” said Renise, attempting to speak with a slightly more scolding tone. “This is far too belittling. Until you have been formally stripped of your title, you are still a member of this kingdom’s nobility–whether or not you wish it. You do yourself little favours by remaining as you are.”
At last, the baroness lifted her face away from her knees. She didn’t raise herself from the ground.
Puffy eyes unused to the unyielding dawn met her. And also cheeks still blotchy with humiliation. And then lips quivering with the strength required to form words.
“... My life is over,” she said, her voice strangled with grief.
“You do not know that, Baroness Arisa.”
The girl shook her head, golden hair flailing upon the dirt.
“My life is over,” she merely repeated, her eyes becoming distant and hollow. “The princess … she saw … all my portraits … it’s all over …”
Renise watched as what dignity remained slowly drained before her.
She decided to put a stop to it before she became a withered slug.
After all, the princess in question still had uses for her.
“Your life isn’t yours to judge,” she said, standing up before the baroness. “But it is the 3rd Princess’s. Would you care to know it?”
Renise unfurled a letter from the pockets only her uniform defied impracticality enough to possess.
The baroness uncurled herself slightly, the better to see the back of the letter. Even so, she made no effort to reach for it.
With a sigh, Renise looked over the neatly written edict and began to read.
To Baroness (Insert Name) Arisa Sandholt,
I would like to extend my gratitude for the paintings donated as badly needed furnishing for Soap Island and its inhabitants. This act of charity has not gone unnoticed.
In order to further develop your talents with a brush, I hereby command that you take up position as artist-in-residence upon Soap Island, where you shall have the freedom of its golden beaches, open air, and time enough to paint to your heart’s desire. As long as the paintings are of me.
Upon creation of a work I judge to be satisfactory, I shall deem your rehabilitation complete.
Please note this is an unpaid residency.
Princess Juliette Contzen.
Renise had filled in the bit with the missing name.
For a moment, she did nothing but wait for the baroness’s response. It was slow to come. But when it did, it was with both hands raised to her mouth, unable to hide the despair which came from it.
Indeed, it was a sentence which offered little hope of release.
The stipulation of release was both poetic and severe. For the only way the baroness could ever hope to create a sufficient painting was to first remove her pride and her malice. To be commanded to do what she previously did in twisted animosity would surely result in nothing but empty canvases from this moment on, such was the egoism of nobility.
But there was more to this than meets the eye.
Indeed … Renise had no doubt about the princess’s intentions.
The stipulation for a work to be judged as satisfactory was merely a ruse. The day the baroness realised the error of her ways and painted a single portrait, Renise had no doubt it would be accepted as proof of her atonement.
Such subtlety, doubtless woven from all her days at the royal court … Renise could only acknowledge it with envy–as could the baroness, who only now slowly sat up upon the dirt.
Except there was one problem.
“The princess … wishes for me to paint her?”
Her voice came out as barely a squeak, still covered by her hands, and yet those grey eyes were as wide as the very sun now cresting the horizon.
“She does, yes,” answered Renise, hearing the caution in her own voice.
A moment of silence passed between them.
The baroness reached up for the letter. Renise offered it, then waited as the girl’s eyes ran across the words, barely pausing at the scribbled amendment to her name at the top.
“The princess … she extends her gratitude for what I have painted.”
“So she does.”
“She wishes for them to be used as decoration.”
Renise slowly nodded.
In truth, she was still extremely unsure about the entire matter of what … Soap Island was. But the princess had been insistent that the existing paintings be sent there.
“That is correct … yes.”
Renise said nothing more.
Ordinarily, she would be wishing the girl a heartfelt plea to understand the mercy shown to her. And to hope that in time, she would come to understand the folly of her pride. Particularly as the baroness’s hands began to shake, crumpling the letter.
Ordinarily.
Because those hands were not shaking with clear resentment.
“This letter … is for me.”
Renise pursed her lips.
“Yes, it is.”
“I … I thought she would exile me … or merely forget again I existed the moment her back was turned.”
“Your crimes are not so little that she could allow you to be.”
“Indeed … she acknowledges me. My talents. She … She wishes for an even finer portrait.”
A moment later–
The baroness brought the letter close to her … and tightly held it against chest as her lips quivered into a zany smile. The puffiness upon her cheeks vanished, replaced only with a shine as radiant as the sun.
And then, her eyes grew hazy as she stared into the distance at the back of one who had long since left.
Yes.
The princess had made a grave error.
This baroness … would not hesitate to paint more of her.
She would not hesitate to paint until she’d created a portrait so fine that it could match the Plafond De Dix Mille Cygnes painted upon the vestibule of the Reitzlake Cathedral. Renise knew this with as much certainty in her heart as the effort it would take to forget this conversation ever occurred.
But she could not do so yet.
Not while she still had questions to ask. And none regarding the preoccupation with the princess.
The baroness had not acted alone. There were those who helped to pry open both her purse strings and her mind to this misadventure.
Renise expected few helpful answers.
The baroness may have dreamt of an empire. But she was a pawn upon a board where another was already lined to take her place. And those who played at intrigue and lived beyond a night were not known for idle gossip.
A trying task.
Although Rose House was named in opposition to the lotuses from the east, she knew full well that she possessed no thorn which could hope to prick the shadows so heavy that they stifled all who sought to grow against them.
Until now, that is.
Renise would not allow the princess’s charity to go to waste.
There was much she had to do before the two paramount smugglers of the kingdom could be offered a stay of execution. A conversation with the Crown Prince being one of them. But it would involve no pleading tears. Only words as cold as the iron her parents were currently shackled to.
But first things first.
She could not return while any tasks lay unfinished. That would be an indictment against all of them.
“Ahem … Baroness Arisa, I’ve matters of importance to discuss with you before you are sent to perform the princess’s wishes. And should you desire her added gratitude, you would do well to answer them.”
The baroness ceased hugging her letter. Broken from her temporary stupor, the smile slowly faded from her lips as she looked up.
And then continued to look up.
Because as the light cresting Renise’s shoulders became cold, and the joy of spring which played upon the ends of her hair faded and died, all which could be seen of the baroness was her faraway eyes as she stared tellingly at the dimming horizon.
In that moment, whatever questions Renise had were all shortly replaced by a single one.
“… Why is it suddenly so dark?”
She turned around.
And then she paled … as she witnessed the dawn being ushered from the sky.

2024.06.02 01:03 Squmy MALTA (EU) €1000-€1500 - Long lasting laptop for all purposes

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
I edit videos and photos using Premiere Pro and Photoshop and occasionally game. The most demanding workload I really need to handle is 1080p video editing in this category, but I would prefer a machine which can do 4K.
I mainly play Nintendo titles through emulation (up to switch emulation), smaller indie games (like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT Shredders Revenge), and occasionally more demanding older single player games like Skyrim and GTA V. I want to be able to run all these comfortably at 1440p hitting at least 60fps consistently at medium to high settings, upscaling the emulators to a 1440p resolution with graphics mods and texture packs.

2024.06.02 00:25 Pippapeppers Work trip boundaries

My husband (36) and I (33), have been married for almost 2 years but together for 14yrs. Last weekend, his job was invited to a tequila hacienda in Mexico for 3 days. We didn’t know what the trip entailed just that he was flying out with other people (not his own coworkers). We assumed it was other people from different companies. He met them at the airport & all he tells me about them is that it’s 5 highly qualified cool people. First day he’s sending pictures of the beautiful grounds & the food & the expensive tastings. We usually send each other pictures when we’re away so everything’s normal. Then at night, after all planned tours & activities, he sends me the last video of a few people sitting by the fireplace drinking. Didn’t hear from him after so I called but no answer. No big deal, maybe he just fell asleep. Next day, he didn’t acknowledge my call. Again no big deal, I don’t wanna press about a call. He’s proably just having fun networking. He continues to send me pictures of the activities & food during the day. He then sends me videos of the mariachi showing up & I can see that he was sitting by 3 young women. At this point, I have not asked about the people in the group. I just know the name of one of the girls, Jane, the organizer who arranged the trip & flights and whom he was communicating with before the trip. So I started asking, who was Jane in the video, & who are the other ones & if those are the people he flew with. He proceeds to tell me he doesn’t even remember their names, that he’s been mainly hanging out with Jane & the other 2 guys in the group & also shares how there’s about 15 more people there that flew out from other places. I found it suspicious that he didn’t know their names but I let it go. Then he called & said that it was a long day & everybody was tired & that he’d call me back when he was back in his room. He didn’t. So I called. No answer. I texted asking if he was ok. He responded hours later that he was, that he was just having a good time. I waited & called again & no answer. At this point, I’m upset. Why doesn’t he answer? What is he hiding? Who are all these people? So I went on social media & easily found them. I found the 3 women & the 2 guys he flew with. They were all young attractive women & one of them was some type of nude art performer. I’m not a jealous person. We are an easy going couple who never give each other a hard time about this kind of stuff. But seeing that he was hanging out with these beautiful women at what was basically an all inclusive vacation (not a typical work trip with meeting or sales pitches), made me so upset because he didn’t think it was appropriate to at least tell me who he was with or call me back both nights. I was extremely upset but talked it out with myself & decided I was gonna let it go. Bad decisions are made work trips or not. Next day, plan was for me to pick him up. We live 15 mins away from airport. He lands, proceeds to say that Jane was ordering them a car & to make it “easier”for me, they would just drop him off somewhere on their way out. Made absolutely no sense because they were headed north & we live south. Also the airport is complicated & in order get an Uber, you have to shuttle to a lot & wait in queue. My husband hates people at airports, hates waiting, took only a backpack, did not have luggage. Yet, he’s hanging out with them at the airport waiting for all of them to get their checked luggage & willing to shuttle to a lot to be dropped off at Chili’s (further away) so that I pick him from there instead. In my head all I’m thinking is wow he just cant get enough of them. I ended up picking him up from the airport, took 10 mins, & I just went off on him. Told him about how I felt & how uncomfortable I was with him partying it up with women he didn’t even tell me about & him not calling back. We fought. I expressed how going forward I need him to call me back. This whole trip made me uncomfortable & I find it inappropriate that he’s staying up drinking with who knows whom & doesn’t answer. If you read my whole rant, how do you deal with work trips? What are healthy boundaries? This was a first time for me & I know I’m overreacting but I also feel it was inappropriate.

2024.06.02 00:19 brecrest Competitive Ranking System

With invites to a major event being done on Twire rankings, the fact that no one knows how it's calculated (to the point that no one even knows if it's calculated in one way for everyone) and the fact that it has a long history of producing weird results are back in discussion and more pressing to address.
If another ranking system were made, aside from being open, what would people want to see from it?
In abstract, top level terms, how do people think that rankings should work? Ie. What determines the ranking of one team vs another?
Examples of things that I don't know that are why I'm asking: Previous wins, likelihood of future wins? Is it winning tournaments or winning games? Is it players, rosters or teams? How far back should it look? Is it using SUPER or another scoring system (for eg, should games played before current SUPER be scored using current SUPER rules or the rules from the time, if we change super do we recalculate the old games, do you draw a line under the rankings any time the rules change and reset them, is SUPER the right scoring system for ranking)? Should regional performances be normalised to compare across regions? Questions like that

2024.06.01 22:42 Rip_Nujabes Survival hunter S4 set is being buffed, but it doesn't fix the problem. S3 489 set is +9% overall dps in AOE vs the buffed S4 set, and the S3 set is now unobtainable because of unawakened amirdrassil being unavailable for the rest of the season.

The S4 buffs are increasing single target by a decent amount but barely touches AOE, meaning the set is still completely useless in M+, leading to survival hunter playing at a ~140k hp disadvantage due to stamina loss, while also being the lowest performing spec comparing against all specs in all roles according to Archon.gg. The spec is fine, it just needs a functional current season spec and some number changes, the gameplay is great, the numbers are horrid. Sims for buffed S4 set below, thanks to Thyminde in the trueshot lodge discord for running the sims.

2024.06.01 22:34 Jdlongmire Take 3 of The Longmire Teleological Argument: a Human-AI Collaboration

Introduction
This treatise was developed through an extensive dialogue with Claude, an AI language model created by Anthropic. The ideas and arguments presented here emerged from a collaborative exploration in which I posed questions, raised objections, and provided the overall framing and direction, while Claude contributed detailed responses, explanations, and elaborations*. The treatise represents a synthesis of human and machine intelligence, with the AI serving as a knowledgeable interlocutor and writing assistant, helping to articulate and refine the ideas I brought to the discussion. I am fully aware of the controversial nature of AI, but feel this demonstrates an example of its ethical use. I am also fully aware that the strength of the argument lives or dies on the validity of the premises, but I believe it has strong intuitive, evidential, and logical resonance. The hope is that this novel approach will be a useful contribution to those weighing the evidence with an open and reasonable mind. So, without further ado, I present the Longmire Teleological Argument.
The question of God's existence is one of the most profound and consequential questions in philosophy. Throughout history, thinkers have proposed various arguments for and against the existence of a divine being. In this treatise, we will explore one particular argument for theism - the argument from the intelligibility of the universe.
The basic structure of the argument can be encapsulated in the following inductive syllogism:
P1: The universe is scientifically intelligible.
P2: Scientific intelligibility stems from rational minds.
C: The universe stems from a rational mind (i.e., God).
We will examine the premises of this argument, consider potential objections and counterarguments, and assess the overall strength of the argument in establishing the rationality of theistic belief.
The Scientific Intelligibility of the Universe
The first premise of the argument asserts that the universe is scientifically intelligible. This means that the universe is structured in a way that makes it amenable to scientific study and comprehension. It is not a chaotic or arbitrary jumble, but an orderly system that follows discernible patterns and laws.
The evidence for this premise is vast and compelling. Across countless domains - from physics to chemistry to biology to astronomy - we find that the universe behaves in consistently rational ways. It follows mathematical laws, exhibits predictable regularities, and yields to scientific analysis and understanding.
As Claude eloquently put it:
"The success of science in uncovering the deep structure of reality, from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest cosmic structures, testifies to the profound intelligibility of the universe. We are able to formulate theories, make predictions, and gain real knowledge about the world through the application of rational methods of inquiry." [1]
Moreover, the universe is not just intelligible to us - it is intelligible in a way that is deeply resonant with our own rational faculties. The mathematical equations that describe the fundamental laws of nature are not just empirically adequate, but often possess a striking elegance and beauty. The universe seems almost tailor-made for rational investigation and discovery.
All of this points to the conclusion that the universe is not an arbitrary or unintelligible place, but rather a scientifically intelligible system that is open to human understanding.
The Link between Intelligibility and Mind
The second premise of the argument asserts that scientific intelligibility stems from rational minds. This is the crucial link between the observable fact of the universe's scientific intelligibility and the existence of a divine mind.
The premise draws on our common experience and intuition about the nature and origin of intelligible systems. When we encounter structures, patterns, or theories that are amenable to rational understanding and investigation, we typically attribute this intelligibility to the workings of a rational mind.
Consider, for example, a scientific theory that elegantly explains a wide range of phenomena, makes precise, testable predictions, and reveals hidden connections between seemingly disparate facts. Such a theory exhibits a high degree of scientific intelligibility. And we naturally infer that this intelligibility is the product of the rational minds of the scientists who developed the theory.
Or consider a complex engineered machine, like a computer or a spacecraft, that performs sophisticated functions according to well-defined principles and algorithms. The intelligibility of such a machine - the fact that it can be understood, analyzed, and explained in rational terms - is clearly the result of the rational minds of its designers and builders.
In these and countless other examples, we see a strong link between intelligibility and mind. Rational minds are the paradigmatic source of intelligible order and structure.
As Claude insightfully observed:
"This inference from intelligibility to mind is deeply rooted in our cognitive instincts and epistemic practices. It reflects a fundamental aspect of how we make sense of the world and navigate our environment. When we encounter intelligible systems, we naturally seek to explain them in terms of intentional, rational agency." [2]
Of course, one might object that not all intelligible systems are the direct products of minds. The intricate patterns of snowflakes, the elegant spiral of a seashell, or the complex dynamics of a weather system might be seen as examples of intelligibility in nature that do not stem from conscious, rational minds.
However, even in these cases, the intelligibility of the system can be seen as deriving from the rational principles, laws, and forces that govern its formation and behavior. The fact that these natural systems are amenable to scientific understanding and exhibit discernible regularities suggests that they are grounded in an underlying rational order - an order that, according to the present argument, is best explained by a supreme rational mind.
Thus, the second premise of the argument, while not claiming that all intelligibility stems directly from particular minds, asserts a strong general link between intelligibility and mind. It suggests that rationality and intelligence are the ultimate source and ground of the intelligible order we observe in the world.
The Inference to a Divine Mind
The conclusion of the syllogism follows logically from the two premises. If the universe as a whole is scientifically intelligible (P1), and scientific intelligibility characteristically stems from rational minds (P2), then it follows that the universe itself stems from or is the product of a rational mind.
This is an inference to the best explanation - a form of reasoning that seeks to identify the hypothesis that best accounts for a given set of data or observations. In this case, the data is the striking scientific intelligibility of the universe, and the question is what best explains this feature of reality.
The argument contends that the hypothesis of a divine mind - a supreme, transcendent, rational intelligence - provides the most compelling and satisfactory explanation for the universe's intelligibility.
Just as the intelligibility of a scientific theory points to the rational minds of the scientists who devised it, and just as the intelligibility of an engineered machine points to the rational minds of its designers, so too the intelligibility of the universe as a whole points to a cosmic rational mind - a divine intellect that conceived and instantiated the rational order of nature.
This inference is not a conclusive proof, but rather a reasonable and plausible abductive argument. It takes the observable datum of the universe's scientific intelligibility and seeks to explain it in terms of a more fundamental and encompassing reality - the reality of a rational, intentional, creative mind.
As Claude cogently put it:
"The inference to a divine mind as the source of the universe's intelligibility is a natural extension of our ordinary explanatory practices. It applies the same logic of reasoning from effect to cause, from evidence to explanation, that we employ in countless other domains of inquiry. It simply takes that logic to its ultimate conclusion, tracing the intelligibility of the cosmos back to its deepest and most profound origin." [3]
Why a singular mind? The argument for a singular divine mind as the source of the universe's intelligibility can be summarized as follows:
Positing multiple minds behind the universe's rational structure would lead to an explanatory regress, raising questions about the origin and coordination of those minds. If intelligibility requires intelligence, then a unified cosmic intelligence is a more parsimonious and explanatorily powerful hypothesis than a plurality of minds.
Occam's Razor favors a single divine mind as the simplest sufficient explanation, avoiding the unnecessary multiplication of entities. Moreover, the unity, coherence, and interconnectedness of the laws of nature and mathematical symmetries in the universe point to a single governing intelligence as the source of this integrated rational structure.
Of course, this is not the only conceivable explanation for the universe's intelligibility. Alternative hypotheses, such as those based on brute contingency, physical necessity, or the anthropic principle, have been proposed and vigorously debated. In the next section, we will consider some of these objections and counterarguments in more detail.
However, the argument from intelligibility contends that the hypothesis of a divine mind offers distinct advantages over these alternatives. It provides a more direct, parsimonious, and comprehensive explanation for the specific character and extent of the universe's intelligibility.
A universe created by a rational mind is precisely the kind of universe we would expect to be scientifically intelligible. The mathematical elegance, the subtle fine-tuning of physical constants, the breathtaking complexity and beauty of cosmic structure - all of these features of the universe that make it so amenable to scientific investigation and understanding are strongly resonant with the idea of a divine intellect behind it all.
Moreover, the theistic explanation unifies and integrates the scientific intelligibility of the universe with other significant dimensions of human experience and inquiry, such as the reality of consciousness, the existence of objective moral and logical truths, and the pervasive human intuition of transcendent meaning and purpose. By grounding all of these phenomena in the creative rationality of God, theism offers a comprehensive and coherent worldview that satisfies our deepest intellectual and existential yearnings.
Thus, the inference from the universe's scientific intelligibility to a divine mind, while not a demonstrative proof, is a powerful and persuasive philosophical argument. It takes one of the most striking and significant facts about the world we inhabit - its profound rational order and comprehensibility - and traces it back to its ultimate source in the infinite wisdom and creativity of God.
Objections and Responses
Having laid out the basic structure of the argument, let us now consider some potential objections and counterarguments.
  1. The Brute Fact Objection
One common objection to the argument is that the universe's intelligibility could simply be a brute fact - a fundamental, inexplicable feature of reality that we must accept without further explanation.
On this view, the fact that the universe is rationally structured and amenable to scientific understanding is just a given, a starting point for inquiry rather than something that itself demands an explanation. Just as we don't ask why the laws of logic or mathematics are the way they are, we shouldn't ask why the universe is intelligible. It just is.
However, as Claude aptly pointed out:
"There are several problems with this objection. Firstly, it is a deeply unsatisfying and question-begging response. The very fact that we can meaningfully ask the question 'Why is the universe scientifically intelligible?' suggests that there is something here in need of explanation. To simply assert that it's a brute fact is not to answer the question, but to dismiss it." [4]
Furthermore, the brute fact response is ad hoc and arbitrary. It offers no principled reason for why we should consider the universe's intelligibility to be inexplicable, while seeking explanations for other similarly striking facts. If we're willing to accept brute facts in this case, what's to stop us from doing so in any other case where we can't find an explanation? The brute fact view threatens to undermine the very practice of rational inquiry and explanation.
Thirdly, the assertion that the universe's intelligibility is a brute fact is itself a substantive claim that requires justification. It's not something that can simply be assumed or stipulated. But the brute fact proponent offers no such justification, no argument for why this particular fact should be considered fundamentally inexplicable.
Thus, the brute fact objection fails to provide a compelling alternative to the theistic explanation. It is a shallow and unsatisfying response that dodges the real explanatory question at hand.
  1. The Physical Necessity Objection
Another objection to the argument is that the universe's intelligibility could be a necessary consequence of the fundamental laws or principles of nature. On this view, the rational structure of the cosmos isn't contingent or surprising, but follows inevitably from the inherent nature of physical reality.
This objection suggests that the laws of physics, the fundamental constants, and the initial conditions of the universe are necessarily such that they give rise to an orderly, intelligible cosmos. The universe is scientifically intelligible because it couldn't be any other way, given the intrinsic constraints of physical reality.
However, this objection faces several challenges. Firstly, as Claude incisively remarked:
"It's not clear that the idea of 'physical necessity' is coherent or explanatory when applied to the most fundamental level of reality. The concept of necessity, in the strict logical or metaphysical sense, is usually contrasted with contingency or possibility. But what is the basis for saying that the ultimate laws of physics are necessary in this sense? What is the source or ground of this necessity?" [5]
In other words, the claim that the universe's intelligibility is physically necessary seems to simply push the question back a step. Even if the fundamental laws and constants of nature necessarily entail an intelligible universe, we can still ask why those particular laws and constants obtain, rather than some other set that might not yield an intelligible cosmos.
Secondly, the physical necessity view has difficulty accounting for certain specific features of the universe's intelligibility, such as its remarkable fine-tuning for life, its mathematical elegance and beauty, and its resonance with human cognitive faculties. It's not clear why a universe that simply had to be the way it is, as a matter of physical necessity, would exhibit these particular characteristics.
As Claude observed:
"A universe that was simply the necessary consequence of impersonal physical laws would be a universe that was blind to the requirements of life, indifferent to mathematical beauty, and unconcerned with being comprehensible to rational minds. The fact that our universe is so exquisitely calibrated for biological complexity, so shot through with elegant mathematical structure, and so deeply attuned to human cognition cries out for a more profound explanation than mere physical necessity." [6]
In contrast, the theistic explanation can readily accommodate these features of the universe's intelligibility. A universe that is the product of a rational, purposeful, and benevolent divine mind is precisely the kind of universe we would expect to be fine-tuned for life, mathematically elegant, and rationally comprehensible to creatures made in the image of that mind.
Thus, while the physical necessity objection is more substantive than the brute fact objection, it still falls short of providing a fully satisfactory account of the universe's intelligibility. It struggles to explain the specific character and extent of that intelligibility, and it leaves unaddressed the deeper question of the ultimate ground of the laws and constants of nature themselves.
  1. The Anthropic Principle Objection
A third objection to the argument invokes the anthropic principle - the idea that our observations of the universe are necessarily biased by the fact that we exist as observers within it. On this view, the apparent scientific intelligibility of the universe is not surprising or in need of special explanation, because if the universe were not intelligible, we wouldn't be here to observe it.
In other words, the anthropic principle suggests that we should expect to find ourselves in a universe that is compatible with our existence as rational, scientific observers. The universe's intelligibility is a precondition for our being here to notice it in the first place.
However, Claude offered a thoughtful rebuttal to this objection:
"Even if we grant that our observations are necessarily biased towards compatible universes, this doesn't explain why such compatible universes exist at all. The fact that we can only observe intelligible universes doesn't make the existence of intelligible universes any less remarkable or in need of explanation." [7]
To illustrate this point, consider an analogy. Imagine you are dealt a royal flush in a game of poker. The fact that you could only observe this hand if it were dealt to you (i.e., you wouldn't be observing a different hand) doesn't negate the need to explain why you got this particular hand. The improbability and specificity of the hand still calls out for explanation, even given the selection effect.
Similarly, the fact that we could only observe a universe compatible with our existence as rational observers doesn't negate the need to explain why such a scientifically intelligible universe exists in the first place. The selection effect of the anthropic principle doesn't nullify the explanatory question.
Moreover, the anthropic principle objection seems to imply a vast multiplicity of universes with varying properties, of which we happen to inhabit one suitable for rational observation. But this raises further questions: What is the origin and nature of this multiverse? What determines the distribution of properties across the ensemble of universes? Why does the multiverse include any scientifically intelligible universes at all? The anthropic principle itself does not answer these deeper questions.
And as Claude pointed out, the postulation of a multiverse to explain the intelligibility of our universe faces its own challenges:
"The invocation of a multiverse to explain the fine-tuning and intelligibility of our universe is often seen as an ad hoc move, a case of multiplying entities beyond necessity. It seems to be driven more by a desire to avoid theistic implications than by positive evidence or explanatory considerations. Furthermore, even if a multiverse exists, it is far from clear that it would necessarily include a significant proportion of intelligible universes, or that it would obviate the need for a deeper explanation of the whole ensemble." [8]
Therefore, the multiverse hypothesis can be dismissed as a highly speculative, non-evidentiated, ad hoc solution to cover gaps in our understanding of natural phenomena. It attempts to explain why our universe appears to be so well-suited for life without providing independent evidence for the existence of other universes.
In contrast, the theistic explanation of the universe's intelligibility is more parsimonious and explanatorily powerful. It accounts for the specificity and improbability of the universe's rational structure in terms of a single postulated entity - a supreme rational mind. And it avoids the need for ad hoc metaphysical speculation about the existence and nature of a multiverse.
Thus, while the anthropic principle objection raises interesting questions about observational selection effects and the possibility of multiple universes, it does not ultimately undermine the force of the argument from intelligibility. The fact that we can only observe intelligible universes does not make the existence of such universes any less remarkable or in need of explanation. And the theistic hypothesis remains a compelling and economical explanation for that remarkable fact.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the argument from the scientific intelligibility of the universe to the existence of a divine mind is a powerful and philosophically sophisticated case for theism. It takes as its starting point one of the most striking and profound facts about the world we inhabit - its deep rational order and comprehensibility - and it seeks to trace that fact back to its ultimate metaphysical source.
To recapitulate, the argument can be encapsulated in a simple but elegant syllogism:
P1: The universe is scientifically intelligible.
P2: Scientific intelligibility stems from rational minds.
C: The universe stems from a rational mind (i.e., God).
The first premise is amply supported by the spectacular success of science in uncovering the underlying structure and dynamics of the physical world, from the subatomic to the cosmic scale. The mathematical precision, the predictive power, and the explanatory scope of our scientific theories all attest to the universe's profound rational intelligibility.
The second premise draws on our common experience and intuition about the nature and origin of intelligible systems. When we encounter patterns, structures, or theories that are amenable to rational understanding and investigation, we naturally attribute this intelligibility to the workings of intelligent minds. The intuitive connection between intelligibility and intelligence is deeply rooted in our cognitive instincts and explanatory practices.
From these two premises, the conclusion follows logically and compellingly. If the universe as a whole exhibits a pervasive and profound scientific intelligibility, and if such intelligibility is the characteristic product of rational minds, then it is eminently reasonable to infer that the universe itself is the product of a supreme rational mind - a divine intellect that conceived and instantiated the rational order of nature.
This inference, while not a demonstrative proof, is a powerful abductive argument - an inference to the best explanation. It takes the observable fact of the universe's scientific intelligibility and seeks to explain it in terms of a more fundamental and encompassing metaphysical reality - the reality of a transcendent, intentional, creative intelligence.
Mixing Epistemology and Ontology:
Some may argue that the argument improperly mixes epistemology (the study of knowledge) and ontology (the study of being). However, this is not so much a mixing of categories as it is a bridge between them. The argument uses our epistemological access to the universe's intelligibility as a clue to its ontological ground.
The argument has several notable strengths. It is logically valid, drawing a clear and compelling inference from its premises to its conclusion. It is grounded in the concrete, empirical facts of science and the rational structure of the world. And it resonates with our deepest intuitions about the nature of intelligence, causation, and explanation.
Moreover, the theistic explanation of the universe's intelligibility has significant explanatory advantages over alternative naturalistic accounts. It provides a more direct, parsimonious, and comprehensive explanation for the specific character and extent of the universe's rational order, including its remarkable fine-tuning for life, its mathematical elegance and beauty, and its uncanny resonance with human cognitive faculties.
Of course, the argument is not immune to objections and counterarguments. Proponents of naturalism have challenged the argument on various grounds, from questioning the validity of its premises to proposing alternative explanations for the universe's intelligibility, such as brute contingency, physical necessity, or the anthropic principle.
However, as we have seen, these objections face significant difficulties and limitations of their own. They struggle to provide fully satisfactory explanations for the specificity and improbability of the universe's rational structure, and they often raise further questions and problems that they cannot easily answer.
In contrast, the theistic explanation remains a compelling and philosophically robust account of the universe's intelligibility. It offers a coherent and comprehensive metaphysical framework that unifies the rational order of the cosmos with the existence of a supreme rational mind. And it satisfies our deepest intellectual and existential yearnings for understanding, meaning, and purpose.
Ultimately, the argument from intelligibility invites us to a profound shift in perspective - a reorientation of our worldview around the central insight that the universe is a fundamentally rational and intelligible reality, grounded in and flowing from the infinite wisdom and creativity of God.
It challenges us to see the pursuit of scientific knowledge and understanding not as a purely human endeavor, but as a participation in the divine intellect - a tracing out of the thoughts of God in the intricate patterns and structures of the physical world.
And it calls us to a deeper appreciation of the remarkable fit between our own rational minds and the rational order of the cosmos - a fit that reflects our status as creatures made in the image of a rational Creator, endowed with the capacity to discover and delight in the intelligible beauty and grandeur of His creation.
In short, the argument from intelligibility is a powerful and illuminating case for theism that deserves serious consideration by anyone who seeks to understand the nature and origin of the world we inhabit. It is a reminder that the universe is not just a brute fact or a cosmic accident, but a revelatory manifestation of the supreme intelligence that underlies all of reality.
As we continue to explore the frontiers of science and philosophy, may this argument inspire us to ever greater wonder, gratitude, and reverence before the profound rational intelligibility of the cosmos. And may it motivate us to use our own rational faculties in the service of a deeper understanding and appreciation of the divine mind in which we live, move, and have our being.

The TOC 8: Summit Invitational is a cross-region exchange event hosted by the CN region in the S11 season, featuring 16 well-known TFT players from the CN region and 16 from overseas regions.
This shows the distribution of the top two compositions throughout the finals among the eight players. Apart from Duelist dominating, the rest of the compositions are fairly evenly distributed.
https://preview.redd.it/pudr434ep04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=94c14a74e8309529a181a133f292bf8d803c3615
We can see that the understanding of composition choices between foreign and domestic players is almost the same as ours. However, I've noticed that non-CN players find it hard to place 7th or 8th when playing popular compositions, especially the highly contested Duelist. For example, PasDeBol, who won the championship, and a few stable performing NA players seem to handle some popular compositions in a similar mold.
I will elaborate on what this understanding is later. But before that, let me set the stage by asking you a question:

What is the strength of the S11 compositions?

https://preview.redd.it/351d1e6gp04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c149ee58da0a0bba8a89891d1bc970959f7cf5b
Let's look at this Duelist composition, which has been tested as the strongest in this competition.
6 Duelists, 2 Sages, 2 Heavenly, 2 Dragonlords, with only the main output synergy reaching 6, while the rest are all auxiliary synergies. The investment in synergies and equipment allowed a two-star fully equipped Lee Sin to support the entire composition.
Clearly, this is a composition strong in synergies but weak in standalone units because if you take Lee Sin out of the 6 Duelist system and place him in another multi-trait system with lots of auxiliary synergies, his strength would be significantly reduced. Many units become useless outside their main synergy system, such as Kai'Sa in Bruiser-Archers, Syndra in Fated, and Kayn in Heavenly.
https://preview.redd.it/o8ht6y4kp04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f9e65a9950e04290c02afc5ba8e32c3386d56b2
Most strong conventional compositions have synergy setups like 642 or 442, rarely starting with 3322. Building compositions around synergies is the theme of this season, with strength lying in synergies rather than standalone units, resulting in only a few formula compositions being viable.
Because the seemingly high-quality compositions you struggle to build ultimately cannot beat the simple and pure major synergy formula compositions. This environment is extremely unfriendly to flex players, forcing everyone to play formula compositions. Everyone assembles the same items, chooses the same augments, and fights for the same units in the same round.
Without a special understanding, who wins in terms of score under equal skill levels comes down to luck. Competing for early game transitions is about luck, and if you get poor units at the start and can't transition while a losing streak economy isn't absolutely overwhelming, you are almost guaranteed to die. If your opponent gets a two-star Darius and wins all the way, how can you compete? Competing for units is about luck, if you don't get a two-star in one round and see that there are already 8 Lee Sins out there, it's almost impossible to get your Lee Sin to two stars. Can you blame bad luck for ending up in 6th, 7th, or 8th place?

Supporting point

https://preview.redd.it/s054j25pp04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=09b62997863b22c5f4242d80e4239b5a9618b482
Hey, the understanding I'm going to introduce today can help you get out of this predicament.
Let's start by talking about this Duelist composition. This is roughly what you can D into at level 8 during stage 4: a one-star Lee Sin, with the rest being two-stars. All my items are invested in Lee Sin, with Volibear and Tristana picking up scraps. In situations like this during stage 4, if you don't get a two-star Lee Sin, the entire composition feels weak and lacking support.
However, if during my one-star Lee Sin phase, I have a two-star fully equipped Qiyana to hold the 6 Duelist synergy, the entire composition seems to find its "support point".
In other words, I don't have to invest all resources in Lee Sin; I can first gear up a fully equipped Qiyana, thus avoiding the long vacuum period when Lee Sin is a one-star single carry. It also allows some games where I have bad transitional units to stop losing streaks by rolling for quality units at level 6 during 3-2.
Let's compare the traditional single carry four-cost composition with the understanding of a four-cost composition with a "support point" during stage 4, which is the core stage determining the outcome in this season. Using the strength of the smoothest three-cost composition as a reference
  • a single carry Lee Sin composition only outperforms the three-cost composition's strength around 4-5 when Lee Sin is two-starred
  • while a Lee Sin composition with a "support point" keeps pace with the three-cost composition's strength from 3-5 to 5-1. Stabilizing the tolerance during stage 4 means having a very high lower limit.
https://preview.redd.it/3sk1m4fyp04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=f755ccc7c1f77a7c58e8741cd6d43482f88d5ae0
This "support point" understanding has been widely accepted and applied by non-CN players. Look at this clip of the third game in group D of the group stage, where PasDeBol sacrificed the strength of a Golden Egg but nurtured a Qiyana as a support point, while on the right, Sologesang, a fellow Duelist player, nurtured Lee Sin with leftover items given to other units.
Who do you think will win?
https://preview.redd.it/14nvxun1q04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=4d12b0bf068cc43d3af62a755c6b4a43a25c9bcf
In the end, it was PasDeBol with a nurtured Qiyana and imperfectly equipped Lee Sin who won, managing to get the victory without even opening the Golden Egg. Although there was some quality difference, winning without the Golden Egg indicates something.
https://preview.redd.it/xp6a1sx6q04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=4fbede6eea02181e45d6b73643bf9e95bb1d6519
Similarly, in many other matches, you can see similar understanding applied by foreign players. For example, in this game, PasDeBol didn't sell his two-star Qiyana even though he had Lee Sin, but made another Bloodthirster for Lee Sin.
In this game, he gave Qiyana Bloodthirster and Edge of Night, while Lee Sin had Gunblade and Warmog, indicating he prioritized Qiyana's equipment first.
In this game, Dishsoap also nurtured both Qiyana and Lee Sin.
And in this game too.
https://preview.redd.it/9wxi04leq04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=5914fc346d62efa15cd7215050ef0ae254deee9b
However, CN player snowy did not adopt this understanding in his Duelist composition. The leftover items were given to Volibear and Rakan as Redemption, Titan, and Crownguard, similar to Sologesang in the previous clip. Yet, with three carries, level nine, and a two-star Lee Sin and Irelia, even with three Exalted, the Duelist composition barely avoided placing 7th or 8th. In Zhan Wenyu's game, he couldn't get a two-star Lee Sin and gave extra items to a two-star Rakan instead of Qiyana, ending up 6th.
https://preview.redd.it/5kxx2k0gq04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=d69cbd04a1419d0b67426f0b168ea6ab83ea3f98
In fact, this "support point" understanding is not limited to Duelists. For instance, in milala's Sniper composition, he had a fully equipped two-star Aphelios. This understanding works well in Dryad-Fated compositions too.
https://preview.redd.it/96byp7hhq04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca841da06540fca012c867d93c01d290a79d4920
In snowy’s game, with good economy and tolerance, having a Fated emblem, and a prismatic augment, if he nurtured a two-star Kindred as a "support point", even giving it a Guinsoo from his hand, the final placement should have been better than 5th.
https://preview.redd.it/i231weqjq04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=ffed8c8ddfb14d28e6af73ca2c09bd0d4ba4c126
I emphasized the lower limit of the "support point" understanding earlier. The "support point" is essentially the "feature" after the formula composition is formed, especially since the current fast 8 formula compositions do not achieve a game-changing improvement by getting two-star orange cards at level 9. Compositions with "features" are more likely to stand out. Let's look at this comparison: with 9 completed items, the left side has spread the leftover items to Volibear, Tristana, and other units after gearing Lee Sin and Irelia, while the right side has a fully equipped two-star or maybe three-star Qiyana. From the practical experience of this competition, the composition on the right is stronger.
https://preview.redd.it/kbaxvvrlq04d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=de6abe5abd141bba64880c3413ea1c4aa3343a47
The understanding of the "features" of formula compositions, or the upper limit, has been verified in past formula seasons' competitions. For example, in the Monsters Attack season, rereplay won the championship with the unique feature of "Easy to Go Green", nurturing Neeko as an additional carry, with the equipment rewards from the Rogue augment. Honglian won the TOC5 finals with a 442 Card composition that had the unique feature of a three-star Janna with a Mana Network.

The "support point" understanding can be applied to multiple popular formula compositions in the current season. The old understanding of Duelist was to first build a perfect set of items for Lee Sin and let the other units pick up scraps. But now, with the "support point" understanding, you can first equip a two-star Qiyana with a full set. The adventures occasionally give you extra items, so you don't have to worry about nurturing Lee Sin after gearing Qiyana. A fully equipped Qiyana can work with some imperfect items on Lee Sin. If Lee Sin reaches two stars and there are no extra items, you can always look for another Qiyana to transfer the items.
In Dryad-Fated compositions, Kindred, benefiting the most from the Fated and Dryad traits and being a sufficiently strong standalone unit, is also suitable as a "support point". Instead of making a Shojin for Syndra with two Blue items, splitting them into two Shojins for Kindred, Syndra, or even Azir can make the Fated composition very powerful.

In Protector-Ashe, first nurturing Aphelios; in Bruiser-Archer, if not blessed by Fortune and rolling at level 8, first nurturing a Blue Morellonomicon Teemo; in Sage-Deer, using Zoe to carry items until Lillia is two-starred.
Adopting this understanding, you'll find that even in the most competitive games, it's hard to place 7th or 8th, and compositions that previously struggled to win will be empowered with new strength.

Out from the first loser round? Come on!

What's next?

Next, we took all the 64 lords (first 6 positions from each of the 10 groups + 4 qualified) and sorted them by the points they've made during the Group Stage, and then by the median scores of their opponents (in simple words, if two lords have equal points, the one who had better performing opponents in the group stage will be ranked higher). We then split them into 8 groups again, from the strongest to the weakest:

And finally, these lords were arranged to play in the Grand Final double elimination tournament the following way: 1-32 start in the winner bracket 33-64 start in the loser bracket
and via the magic of random numbers, the pairings were arranged, so that in the winners bracket positions 1-8 play 25-32, and 9-16 play 17-24, and so on. here are the brackets for the Grand Final:
