2024.05.22 00:48 iPoseidon_xii JK Dobbins starting for sure?
I’ve been a Dobbins fan since his days with the Buckeyes. Even continued to like him when the Ravens drafted him. I’m a Steelers fan 😅
Went as far as drafting him in my dynasty league last year full well knowing what his injury history already was. I’m not giving up on the dude. When I saw he signed with the Chargers I thought it was a great spot.
But do Chargers fans think he will start, and keep his job? This all assuming he stays healthy. And I’m not necessarily asking in fantasy football terms. Just overall for his career going forward
Thanks yall! Oh, and I love the Chargers uni combos 🙌

2024.05.22 00:33 blueshirt11 Can I use relief pitchers as starting pitchers?
So I’m starting a fantasy draft franchise and my SP options suck. So I decided to get high stamina RP. I have Feller, Vida Blue and Mark Prior in my bullpen listed as long relievers. Their stamina is in 99, so can I just use them in the rotation?
Or am I setting myself up for failure right from the start. After hours of drafting, crashing, redrafting, crashing etc I don’t won’t to find out fucked up.
the game isn’t happy, telling me I need more starting pitchers.

2024.05.21 22:29 Rickbox Ranking all /r/CFB rankings since the season ended
You asked for it, so here it is. I've compiled a
ranking of all of the rankings since roughly when the season ended. How did I find them? I searched 'Ranking' in the search bar for 'Search in
CFB' . The search gave me results as far back as January. I then used intuition to distinguish between what were rankings and what weren't. These rankings include media and community-made ones.
Before I show the rankings, let me just say that y'all love your rankings. Even the ones with negative upvotes still get a significant engagement. The 34th most commented post has less than 1 upvote. The least engaged post with less than 1 upvote isn't even in the bottom 20. The ranking posts were also the most popular in the month proceeding the end of the season and has picked up a lot in this past month. Enjoy:
Metrics I rated based on comments and upvotes where the other serves as the tiebreaker.
Here's some stats:
110 posts have been recorded.

2024.05.21 21:56 TacitusKadari The pantheon of Amaria
Context is at the end of this post __________________________________________________
In the stormy northern seas lies the island of Amaria. Under the polar lights in cold forests live the descendants of the once great Varaki, who in turn followed the mammoth herds across the steppes for countless eons. These are the gods and spirits of this land. They live in every tree, every lake, every star, deep below the ocean and beyond the polar lights in four domains.
The underworld, a place of transition between life, death and rebirth. It was made after the creation of the material to help souls find their way back to life. The spirits of this domain all take the shape of dragons with red eyes and golden patterns.
- Räkimarak: Lord of the underworld and of all its riches. Every stone, flint and gems alike, belong to him. A great violet dragon with enormous antlers. He reviews the lives of all that died and guides them to the new lives they deserve. Father of all dragons of the underworld.
- Idaka: Wife of Räkimarak, goddess of love and beauty. She resides at the darkest place, where her light shines the brightest. A violet dragon with a frill and wings of red rose petals with golden patterns. She stands for all encompassing unconditional love and reunites loving souls in their next lives. Mother of all dragons of the underworld.
- Kimorak: Firstborn son of Räkimarak and Idaka, guide of souls who escorts the souls of the dead into the underworld. A great black dragon with golden horns. Every mortal he touches sees and feels their life in great detail from the point of view of those they affected. In the process, mortals always see something they need to see.
- Galorak: Lord of caves and their denizes, bats. A small black dragon with bat ears and a bat nose. Caves are entrances to the underworld and bats are its sacred animals. They are not to be harmed. But since they are also messengers of death, one must keep a safe distance. Don't disturb the bats or Galorak may convince his older brother to take you too soon.
- Letorak: Messenger of the underworld. A small black dragon with golden antlers. Whenever Kimorak takes a soul, they often have something to tell their loved ones. Something they didn't have the time or the courage to say in life. It is Letorak's task to convey these messages through dreams.
- Vhedurak: The white dragon who heals souls between death and rebirth, so they don't take wounds from one life to the next.
- Ohnarak: Craftsman of the underworld. A great yellow dragon who can make anything out of the riches of this realm.
- Vahirak: Builder of the underworld. A great brown dragon with antlers he can use to dig new caves or cover up old ones as needed.
- Voomarak and Vothorak: The great hunters keeping the underworld free of demons preying on scared souls. Two emerald dragon who can turn invisible. The younger brother Voomarak has golden horns and is also the patron of boys and unmarried men. The older brother Vothorak has great golden antlers and is also the patron of married men.
- Mokorak, Kaharak, Roporak and Sukorak: The four golden-headed red dragons guarding the entrances to the underworld. Mokorak has the ears and nose of a bat, Kaharak has four horns, Roporak great antlers and Sukorak the wings and head of a barn owl.
- Tathorak: The great beast, god of violence and bloodshed, the only dragon of this realm who is not a son of Räkimarak and Idaka. A huge gray dragon with three heads, three tails and three pairs of wings. The most powerful beast in the cosmos, but devoid of empathy or understanding. He is imprisoned at the second deepest, darkest point of the underworld, where he guards the only being living even deeper below, the Nameless One.
The boundaries. This is the realm of souls and spirits, dreams and nightmares, the skies and oceans and all waters deep and shallow. This domain has existed before time even began. It is endless and timeless.
- Kavijohka: The moon, a great silver dragon with glowing teal eyes. Sister of Räkimarak and goddess of wisdom, cunning and battle.
- Vellamun: The ocean, husband of Kavijohka, a great blue dragon with red eyes and golden patterns. God of the unknown and lord of all waters. Sometimes, he stretches his hands out to land, creating bogs and swamps.
- Lukilan: The morning star, son of Kavijohka and Vellamun. He is the lightbringer who gives people the power of sight. An azure dragon with emerald eyes and a golden morning star on every scale and a third eye on his forehead.
- Sojulan: The great traveller, son of Kavijohka and Vellamun, a black dragon with red eyes and the neck and wings of a black swan. He travels between the waters, land and air and protects all fellow travelers.
- Turikan: Lord of storms, thunder and lightning. The loudest and most unruly son of Kavijohka and Vellamun. A blue dragon with red eyes and a golden lightning pattern on his scales. His tail is like a hammer, hurling lightning bolts at the ground as he roars.
- Lumika: Goddess of magic, daughter of Kavijohka and Vellamun, a silver dragon with teals eyes and scales shimmering with polar lights. She continues in the footsteps of her mother.
- Ilunika: Goddess of grief, daughter of Kavijohka and Vellamun, a silver dragon with teal eyes and the neck and wings of a black swan. She travels to and from the world of the living and the dead to take the grief of letting go upon her. Whenever she crosses the boundary, she has to go through the ocean and that is where tears comes from. That is why they are salty.
- Avastaja: The great trickster. A shapeshifter, usually appearing with the attributes of a barn owl. Most often as an owl-headed human or a fox/dragon with the head and wings of an owl. The youngest child of Kavijohka and Vellamun who defies all boundaries, uses the powers of all his/her siblings (except for Ilunika, because Avastaja has standards) to protect the jesters and jokers. But he/she is also a scolar and explorer, who uses Lukilan's light to find new ways to mess with people.
- Aiwana: Wife of Avastaja and goddess of memory. A shapeshifter, usually taking the same shape as her husband/wife Avastaja. She paints everything she sees into the skies and caves of Amaria and lives in every single one of the most sacred objects of all Amaria, the fairy memory stones. But Avastaja is rubbing off on her and sometimes, she plays tricks on you.
- The Ashirana: Goddesses of the arts, each of which has its own Ashiran patron. One for painters, wood carvers, musicians and for storytellers.
The world of the living. This is our material world.
- Kadath: The sun, greatest of all dragons with shining golden scales and golden eyes. God of justice who sees all... during the day that is. At night, his sister Kavijohka rules and she has a different idea of justice. Sometimes, she tries to turn the day to night, causing an eclipse. But in the end, Kadath always wins these confrontations. Especially when people light fires and cheer him on.
- Inari: Mother nature, goddess of life and all plants and animals. A great green dragon with wings and a frill made of flowers. She provides all food, but only as long as nature is in balance. Unlike her husband Kadath, Inaro does not care about justice, only balance. Those who anger her are punished mercilessly, no matter how long it takes, sometimes more than they deserve.
- Ilmania: Goddess of healing, firstborn daughter of Kadath and Inari. She was the first fairy, a tall woman with long pointy ears. Her descendant, although far shorter, are still endowed with her healing powers and compassion.
- Vrila: Protector of the home and hearth, patron of married women and the goddess of affectionate familiar love between equals. Secondborn daughter of Kadath and Inari. A woman, always accompanied by a cat and carrying a sling. The weapon of a lady, which requires skill and finesse instead of strong arms and can be more deadly than a bow in the right hands.
- Aria: Protector of girls and unmarried women, goddess of erotic love. A young woman with hair reaching to her ankles. She often reincarnates among mortals for fun. That is why the Amarians do not look down on women looking for fun. They might be dealing with a goddess in disguise.
- Mahaseta: The great white mammoth, goddess of the old world of Varaki. She and Inari together created dogs to protect humanity from dangers of the material and other worlds. All forest elephants and mammoths are her children and as such, sacred. But she was not born a goddess. Mahaseta was born a human. When Avastaja wanted to prove to the others that the material world and humanity are worth preserving, he appeared to Mahaseta in the most terrifying form and ordered her to sacrifice one of her own children to him. But Mahaseta refused. First she begged for the lives of all her children, then she offered her own life instead and when Avastaja refused, she spat in his face. No punishment could be worse than having to murder your own child. With these words, Mahaseta ascended to godhood.
- Retaro: Son of Mahaseta, who became a god by his mother's love. A great white tiger with blue eyes. Guardian of Amaria, lord of the forests and god of the hunt.
- Red Lady and Blue Knight: Also known as the Blue Lady and Red Knight. A pair of lovers who find each other in every new life they are born into. Living as mortals, they are the paragons of loyalty for all Amarians.
Evil. This is not actually a domain, but a state of mind. A very lonely one.
- The Nameless One: God of Evil, who goes by many false names. He lures mortals in with impossible promises to make them do his bidding. The Nameless One orders blood sacrifice and the killing of those who disobey him. He demands to worshiped and praised every day and is jealous of all those gods who receive praise without asking for it. Thus, the Nameless One also seeks to be the only one. No matter the cost to everyone else or even himself.

Context: I am currently working on a stone age fantasy novel and I'm sooo close to finishing it, but the last couple chapters are taking longer than expected. It's set on a forested island named Amaria\ at a time when people are making their first steps towards sedentary life and domestication** of plants and animals. Here is the pantheon I worked out for the Amarians.*
You can read my novel for free on Wattpad and Inkitt. I am planning to publish it on Royal Road too. If you know any other platform that might be good for fantasy stories, feel free to tell me. \Amaria is short for "Amara Aria", which translates to "Gift of the gods/spirits". Aria means gift and Amara is the plural of Amar. The term Amar can not be literally translated into English. It's an umbrella term for all sorts of nature spirits, gods as well as entities one might compare to angels or saints. So it refers to a person with transcendent characteristics and always carries positive connotations.*
\*Dogs have been domesticated by the ancestors of the Amarians for tens of thousands of years already and are central to their culture. It is believed that they have the same souls as humans, so eating a dog would be considered cannibalism. So far the only other note on domestication I have in the books is the pruning of hazelnut trees to get more nuts. That's something I will change in later drafts. Nightshades will be far more important to the civilization emerging on Amaria in the coming millennia.*

2024.05.21 20:48 orangedwarf98 Coming to realize I need to throw my expectations about word count out the window
I will never be able to write a story that is less than 100k words, maybe not even less than 150k words, at least for the current story I'm working on. Some of the most frustrating things I've come across on various writing subs is that "every story can be cut down to 100k/can be less than 300-500 pages otherwise it's bloated" but I wholeheartedly believe that is not true.
I realize as someone who is only on their first draft of their first novel that my opinion on this is probably misguided and this is the ranting of an amateur but even in just looking outside of myself I feel this sentiment not to be true. If we take other fantasy series, some of the most popular ones that make their rounds across nearly every fantasy discussion, most exceed 150k and often even 200k. Robin Hobb needed all 300k words of each Liveship Trader book to tell the story she wanted. Brandon Sanderson needed over 200k for all of the Mistborn books and Elantris, his debut, was over 200k as well. Hell, even A Game of Thrones is 300k and it is massively popular. Even if we extend this out of trad pub, which makes more sense for me since my goal is not to pursue trad publishing, The Shadow of What Was Lost started as a self pub and is around 220k. The word count clearly did not deter people.
I say all this because I have been stressed about this story being far larger than I anticipated and may very well have to add a few chapters, but as of now I cannot imagine being able to cut this story to less than 150k. And that's fine. Even if I can only get it to 150k to 200k, people might still read it. I'm sure I'll be able to successfully cut it down but I say this to urge people to not worry too much about word count. I like reading the big ass books.

2024.05.21 20:36 srajdb 41 [M4F] Central AL - Fantasy writer looking for happy ending
I'm a medical software tech by day, aspiring fantasy novelist by night. I've been working on a fantasy piece for the past year. I've got the first draft completed, now the fun part comes next (revising). If you're into Narnia, Harry Potter, etc. then I'm sure you'll enjoy what I'm writing.Unfortunately writing doesn't pay the bills, so that's why I have my day job (medical software technician). I've been living by myself for the past year or so, and honestly it's pretty lonely with just a dog and a cat (I also have shared custody of my daughter). I don't do a lot of gaming these days, and I honestly don't watch a lot of television or movies (between work and writing, time is a rather hot commodity!) I do enjoy traveling and trying new food/drink but I don't much reason to do either as of late. I would like someone to give me a reason to go out, whether it's a week-long trip in another state (or even another country), or a night out on the town (I enjoy the symphony, Broadway show, or any other 'fancy' date). You don't have to be a 'dog' person, but I'm always going to have at least one. If I haven't turned you off yet, congratulations. I get that people are busy, but if you're not going to put any effort in conversations (i.e. say one or two words a day, or not bother saying anything at all) then don't bother replying to this. You're wasting two people's time and it's rude. Just so I know you've taken the time to at least skim through this, tell me if you've ever worn a pair of oxford heels.

2024.05.21 20:00 Share_Force_One Trade JJ - Yay, Nay, or May-bay?
12-teamer dynasty. 0.5ppr. 6 pt passing TDs. 1QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, FLEX (not SF). Can keep up to 5 players (lose 1st rounder for first kept player, 2nd rounder for 2nd, etc). I'm also without a 6th and 7th round pick this year. So if I keep 5 guys I won't pick my 6th player until 91st overall.
QB: Herbert RB: Pacheco, Mixon, A. Jones, Moss, Chubb, K. Mitchell, K. Miller, Warren WR: JJ, Tyreek, Devonta Smith, Mike Evans, A. Cooper, D. Hopkins, J. Dotson TE: Kelce
I'm pretty set on keeping JJ, Tyreek, Devonta, and Pacheco. And if I keep those 4 I feel obligated to keep Kelce for a 5th - we could debate the value, but I know for a fact I could flip him to a team during the draft for an earlier pick.
With that in mind, would you kick the tires on either of these?
- JJ for Garrett Wilson, Jonathan Taylor, 6th round pick
- JJ for Breece, Drake London, 7th round pick
Because it's a 2-1 I'm also giving up my ability to keep Kelce. I'm also contemplating offering the guy who will pick firsr Tyreek+Kelce for #1 and other keeper round picks. He's an impatient fantasy player so I know he'd love to grab two veterans instead of MHJ and some unkept players/another rookie.
Thoughts?

2024.05.21 19:42 Holiday-Entry4376 [QCrit] Adult Contemporary Fantasy TWO WAYS TO BE IMMORTAL (74K/version 1)
Hi Pubtips!
I appreciate any feedback I can get. I finished the first draft recently, and wrote up the query while I'm letting it rest.
I'm labeling this contemporary fantasy since I think this story fits pretty firmly under that, but I've also considered cozy fantasy due to the personal stakes and hopeful tone I hope is present in the ms (also, tbh, because it seems popular). I don't think the query I've written really reflects coziness, though, and the definition of cozy fantasy still feels kinda nebulous to me, but if anyone has any thoughts on the labels, I'd love to hear. Thanks!
TWO WAYS TO BE IMMORTAL is a 74000-word contemporary fantasy that plays with the soulmate and reincarnation tropes. Inspired by the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, this standalone novel has the whimsical magic and heart of Sangu Mandanna’s The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and themes of memories and immortality similar to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab.
Mikoto Jinguji is one of the few immortal magi living amongst humans. Despite her apathy towards romance, she runs a successful business matching people to their one or many soulmates using her magically scientific (and trademarked) potions. Outwardly, Mikoto promises happiness with soulmates; in private, she fudges results that might garner complaints and lets people buy the matches they want. As long as clients don’t hassle her, Mikoto has no qualms. She never sees a match through to the end, anyway.
The soulmate business is a front for her true goal: develop a potion that will bring the reincarnation locked within a person to the forefront. Each unwitting client is a potential test subject, but the only reincarnation Mikoto’s looking for is the friend she failed to save centuries ago. She’s encountered his reincarnations repeatedly through the years, but they’ve never remembered her. Mikoto finds the latest reincarnation in her newly-hired assistant Kendall, a recent grad whose diligence and curiosity she appreciates.
When her potion is nearly done, Kendall figures out her true motive and his role in it. Mikoto expects his outrage and settles on waiting another century or so for the next reincarnation (perks of being immortal), but Kendall offers a deal instead: use him as she wants, even replace his memories completely with the reincarnation’s, if she’ll end her soulmate business. It’s an easy decision at first, until Mikoto learns Kendall’s reasons behind the deal and the harm her seemingly innocuous business has caused. As guilt creeps in, Mikoto starts to think she’s taken things too far, but after dedicating centuries to bringing her friend back, she’s not sure letting him go is an option anymore.

Hello! My fantasy football league holds an annual in person draft and this year, the Stl members are hosting. We wanted to do something more fun than we have in the past and were looking to rent a small space. I looked into some breweries (Schlafly, 4 Hands, etc.) but most are for very large groups. We would likely have no more than 15 people. Any good spots come to mind?
Not overly concerned about a low price or things like food but those would be nice perks.

2024.05.21 18:48 Low_Manufacturer_978 Dream Idol Group Game
I'm hoping to get some input into something I'm trying to get going at my job. Any advice, input, or ideas would be appreciated!
I'm a librarian assistant and do programming at my branch. I've loved kpop for a while now (TXT is my ult) and decided to try to start a kpop club. I've come up with some games (so far I've got kpop guess who, kpop bingo, and kpop charades/pictionary, as well as kpop-themed playing cards, although these might just be prizes b/c they aren't too sturdy). We'll meet once a month starting in September.
What I need help with is a sort of Ultimate Idol Group game set up and played similar to Fantasy Football, except it's based on awards show wins. Each player picks an individual member out of a group, taking turns so one person can't pick all the big winners, just like the draft in football, until they have seven members total. Each player will be responsible for tracking their members wins/loses (which I'll also be tracking to verify) and at each meeting we'll tally the current score and trade members, if desired. I'll come up with some sort of prize for the winner in January (I think that's when the last major award show in Korea is held).
So, does this sound like something kpop lovers would enjoy? Does it even make sense or sound feasible at all? Should I limit certain things - like which award shows to count or which groups are included in the draft? If players pick more than one member from one group, how should I score each win? Two points or it still only counts as one? I don't want to track every minor award and/or music show win b/c that sounds overwhelming and stressful and I don't even know how many there are. Should foreign awards be included or is that too exclusionary to bigger groups? Also, should I allow trading members or does that add in too much confusion? If they do trade, do they lose current points potentially won by the previous member?
Anyway, I was really excited by this idea, but, having never played fantasy football, I'm a little lost in the woods about how to break it down, especially with the award show aspect. If you have any advice or tips or have already spotted a giant plot-hole in the game, please let me know! Thanks in advance!!

2024.05.21 15:01 kjmichaels r/ Fantasy's Top Podcasts - Results
It's here! The results for the 2024
Fantasy Top Podcasts Poll have been tabulated and we have the results! Before we share those results with you, a quick preamble about participation and how we categorized the podcasts. The
original voting thread can be found here.
Participation In total, 77 people participated in this poll and cast a total of 360 votes for 183 podcasts. That's a big uptick from the
last time this poll was undertaken but not as much participation as we'd hoped. The vote spread was remarkably similar to last time but as we suspected, the popular podcasts have changed wildly. For instance, Writing Excuses was the most popular podcast last time with 16 votes and this time it only received one vote.
Only 2 podcast votes were disqualified: 1 for not seeming to be a podcast (not found on any podcast app and it did not describe itself as a podcast on its YouTube channel) and the other was only available on a website that my antivirus software wouldn't let me go to so I couldn't confirm anything about it.
Breakdown There were 7 main categories of podcast:
- Discussion - for general podcasts where hosts talk about shared interests. This could include news, book discussion, readalongs/watchalongs, lore analysis, and so on. This is the category most people tend to think of when you say "podcast." Readalongs/watchalongs are specifically called out in the list due to their participatory nature.
- Fiction - for podcasts where stories either new or previously published are read aloud often by their author or a a singular narrator for all stories usually without sound effects.
- Audio Drama - podcasts where stories are performed by actors as plays with sound effects. Not everything in this category is is specifically a drama. Some are comedies but audio drama appears to be the catch all term for any story performed for audio.
- TTRPG - a catch all for anything D&D related including actual plays and similar games like Pathfinder.
- Writing - podcasts on writing advice, story creation, and the like.
- Folklore/Mythology - somewhere between Fiction and Discussion, these podcasts bounced between reading, discussion, and history of real world myths and folklore often by people who are experts in their field. This felt different enough from Discussion and Fiction to single out since it did not fit neatly in either.
- Improv - there were a number of podcasts where comedians improvised stories in a fantasy or sci fi world. It wasn't quite fiction and it wasn't quite audio drama so it got its own category.
Fiction and Audio Drama are definitely the blurriest categories. In general, I counted something as audio drama if it had multiple actors and sound effects. This meant that stuff like Night Vale, which is arguably an audio drama, was counted as a fiction podcast since it doesn't have these elements. This decision was partially informed by Night Vale calling itself a fiction podcast instead of an audio drama which helped me figure out where to draw the line using Night Vale as a boundary marker. However this also means that delineations between Audio Dramas and Fiction may not be consistent as I did defer to podcast descriptions if they described themselves as Fiction or Audio Drama.
Our most popular podcast categories in order of most to least popular were:
- Audio Drama - 62 podcasts Discussion - 62 (17 of the discussion podcasts were watchalongs or readalongs)
- Fiction - 24
- TTRPG - 21
- Folklore/Mythology - 4 Writing - 4
- Improv - 3
The Results
To save space, only podcasts that received 3 or more votes are displayed in the table below. Podcasts with only one or two votes can still be seen in our
Fantasy Top Podcasts of 2024 Google Sheet.
Miscellaneous Info - The most highly voted Discussion podcast is a tie between Alzabo Soup (which is about the books of Gene Wolfe), Green Team of the Legendarium, Imaginary Worlds, and Intentionally Blank.
- The most highly voted Audio Drama (as well as most highly voted podcast overall) is the Magnus Archives.
- The most highly voted TTRPG podcast is The Adventure Zone.
- The most highly voted Fiction podcast is Welcome to Night Vale.
- The most highly voted Writing podcast is Worldbuilding for Masochists.
- The most highly voted Improv podcast is Mission to Zyxx (not displayed above because it only got 2 votes).
- The most highly voted Folklore/Mythology podcast is Lore (not displayed above because it only got 2 votes).
- On average, users voted for 4.7 podcasts per comment.
- 60% of the list is composed of podcasts that received only 1 vote.
Closing Thoughts So that's the poll. What are your thoughts on the rankings? Are you surprised any specific podcasts didn't make the list?
