2024.05.16 07:55 Moxie_Justine Terrible inept nonexistent customer support

Today we flew American Airlines for a trip from Austin to Tulum connecting through Miami
Flight from Austin to Miami was delayed by weather or air traffic by about 1.5 hours - boarded and we were not informed that there would be a delay until we were on the runway.
We originally had a 45 min layover but ended up missing our connecting flight - it was the ONLY flight to Tulum today.
Once we knew we were going to be delayed I got on the AA app and tried to figure out our options - just trying to be proactive.
Since it was a supposed weather delay AA said they couldn't help yet because our connection could also be delayed etc etc
So I waited until I could see that our connection was on time and tried again this time just searching for guidance and resources - how do we get to our destination there are 6 of us traveling and have a full week of tours and activities planned and paid for not to mention rental cars, hotels etc logistics
For over an hour I spent on chat I really had very little success just trying to figure out if there were 6 seats on the following days flight to Tulum thinking over night in Miami and catching the next day's flight (answer is no) next possibility switch to a flight from Miami to Cancun - great there are 3 direct flights on jet blue, frontier and spirit with 6 seats leaving w enough time to get us to Tulum before we lose a full day on our house reservation, tour on the 16th etc - not life or death but expensive and logically challenging
Chat couldn't help, our only option thru this avenue was "We have a flight here, AA #322 departing from MIA (Miami International) at 911P and arriving in EWR (Newark Liberty Int'l) at 1231A on the next day, connecting with AA flight #816 departing from JFK (New York John F Kennedy Intl) at 700A and arriving in CUN (Cancun) at 1005A."
So your opinion is to fly 6 of us from Miami to Newark, on to JFK and on to Cancun tomorrow? No thanks - was told to see a gate agent at the airport in Miami because they have more ability to see/understand situation and get us on new flights.
We got to Miami at 12:30 - went straight to rebooking/customer service and waited an hour in line (missing the jetblue 1:30 direct flight) also sat on hold for 45 min with no answer while waiting in line to see if we could get assistance that way as recorded by our pilot and signs in customer service line and as I sit on hold for the 3rd time today at midnight I feel certain I won't be helped - 49 min now it's 1am and I have been up since 4am just signed up for a call back but won't hold my breath
Anyhow we got to speak to a customer service rep at the Miami counter- she couldn't book us on another airline, she couldn't refund our missed flight and the slightly helpful advice that was offered was that our return flight would be cancelled within 24 hours if we didn't rebook- which she also couldn't do.
We are resourceful and on our own booked 6 tickets on Frontier to Cancun and canceled our rental car in Tulum so we could rebook a car in Cancun and drive to our rental in Tulum - nightmare btw but so much easier than dealing with AA
But wait our bags - at customer service counter we were told the process to pick up our checked bags - well only one made it, we had to leave to catch our flight so one bag is still in Miami (I can track it and see it but I can't get anyone to help me get it to Tulum - I am currently on hold for the 3rd time today (over 3 hours on hold with no actual help or human contact).
My bag is in Miami, my return flight home will likely be cancelled because I can't get ahold of their inept organization and we are only at our destination because we took matters into our own hands and paid out of pocket for our flight changes.
I won't ever fly AA again if I don't have to and how shitty and poorly managed of an organization do you have to be for you to have to be to have multiple employees across departments be completely unable to help your customers in any meaningful way and on top of it be rude, condescending, more than once being told it's either not their department or didn't have access or authority to make decisions.
Any help or suggestions welcome šŸ™šŸ¼ just want my bag, a way home and some credit or reimbursement for the flight we missed because they were delayed

2024.05.12 19:19 Dull-Philosophy2764 PayPal Question

Hi all, I'm an average Gumtree user with linked PayPal, which saved my life once. To those who want to skip my lots-of-text, questions are at the bottom. Anyhow here's the background:
Mainly I used a manual PayPal payment where the seller send me their @username and I would manually send them funds through PayPal app with transaction being "to the seller" (not Friends and Family, added a hefty 3% thogh).
This actually saved my life once where seller was good, sent some photos which weren't identifiable through Google Lens, messaged frequently, etc. They were selling ~2200A$ camera and I was buying. The point is that I almost got scammed after transaction when seller started giving reasons why he can't post right now and then stopped answering me (2 weeks since my payment). The simple dispute opened with PayPal and all the screenshot proof returned my money within a few days. Since then I swore to buy online from any Marketplace only with PayPal.
Anyhow, moving forward, now I found a good deal on lens I've been dreaming a long time (~700A$), messaged the seller, he seemed nice, had some rating, provided extra requested photos, had linked PayPal profile and I paid. However it was my first time paying with linked PayPal through Gumtree, not a standard PayPal transaction. And when I went into research I found out that PayPal doesn't have Buyers Protection when I pay with it through Gumtree?
I know that PayPal's Buyers Protection doesn't apply when you are meeting with the seller personally, but this seller posts the item. Official PayPal page states that transactions made through Gumtree are not covered with Buyer's Protection. By that, is it meant when transaction is made when you are buying an item in-person or all transactions? Should I be concerned?
Apologies for lots-of-text. If you scrolled down to the point here are the questions:
1) Are transactions made with PayPal through Gumtree have Buyer's Protection? Or they just have unjustified 2.6%+0.3A$ commission for nothing? In terms of when it is not a personal meeting but when the seller posts the item.
2) In case if Gumtree's PayPal has Buyer's Protection, would it be better to pay through PayPal directly? In case it doesn't, well...

2024.04.22 21:02 Spiley_spile The difference between ICS-100, IS-100, and a, b, c etc

I am supposed to take ICS 100, 200, and 700. But, I'm seeing a lot of variation when I look those up. Is there any difference between ICS and IS? And do I have to take 100a, 100b, and 100c etc to fulfill the requirements?
On that note, I tried to sign up for IS-700a and the course was discontinued.
People who have been at this a long time, if you are handing out assignments to newcomers, please be specific. This stuff may seem intuitive to you now, but it's not for us. And our time is in shorter and shorter supply these days. Tying to sort out the missing pieces using google results is becoming increasingly time consuming, as the results are bloated with millions of pages that don't answer the questions we searched for.
Thanks!

2024.04.22 17:31 BabyYodaFutanari Visas if you own a company in a freezone

Hey guys,
im in deep confusion. Even after multiple sleepless nights of research, im still unable to find a definitive answer to this.
So, i am about to open a company in a freezone. I will need an entry permit and visa (am from europe) but i do not know whether to apply for a work visa or a residence visa. And the cost. The government sites state they cost around 400-700aed , but other sites say they cost up to 4000USD, am I misunderstanding something?
These are the links i am confused about, since i do not know which to use or apply for:
https://icp.gov.ae/en/service/issuing-entry-permits/ https://www.gdrfad.gov.ae/en/services/d551ce6f-52e8-11ea-0320-0050569629e8
https://www.gdrfad.gov.ae/en/services/bf4095ea-56e2-11ea-0320-0050569629e8
Also, which of these visas do I actually need, Both or just one of them? I am planning to be tax resident for which i need a minimum stay of 180 days per year which i will definetly have, since im planning to live there. I would strongly appreciate advice since this is driving me insane and i really dont want to pay thousands of dollars to a 3rd party company to do it for me.

2023.09.25 01:38 Turtle_Co That Yudkowsky Discussion was Disappointing

That Yudkowsky Discussion was Disappointing

Askers?

To preface, Eliezer Yudkowsky was that guy who made the 80-percent suitcase question that Aella later stole on stream and DGG went nuts over \1]). I researched briefly about him to get more information on the problem he presented and whether he believed it was 80 or 50 percent (the only real answers btw). In 2008, he wrote Probability is in the Mind \2]), an article on the LessWrong website, talking about how probability is not some objective fact of the universe, but rather changes based on the information given to an observer in a situation. For me, that was a pretty satisfying reason as to why people had different interpretations of the suitcase question, including world-renowned Harvard professors who asked for their private emails to be deleted \3]). So when I heard he was going to debate the gnome, I thought it would at least be a little interesting.

[1] Tip-tip MLADY

Reality

So if you watched the Manifold Markets convention, and endured the cringe \4]), you probably were at least hoping for some stimulating debate behind this grandfather-like figure from the Rationalist/AI-overlords community, and this guy who plays Oxygen Not Included all day. It was probably the most disappointing debate that you've seen in a while. Partly because they agreed on a lot of topics, but mostly because Yudkowsky was worse than a tier 5 schizo.
Since Destiny won't be back to streaming for like 9 days or whatever, and this shit will probably be forgotten, I guess let's just go through the insane claims Yudkowsky made in this entire debate:

"There will not be a Sun at that Point"

\5]) This was probably the first out-of-pocket point this guy made, but it won't be the last. So they agreed that online pundits should bet on their opinions in a prediction market SLEEPSTINY, but this guy really just takes a complete 90-degree turn off the main argument they were having.
Yudkowsky's Argument: "It's much more predictable where things end up than how they get there" \7])
Destiny's Argument: "Trajectory is about as important as endpoint" \8])
Yudkowsky's tone did not change much, but it was obvious he was just joking with Destiny, and he joked with him a lot during this conversation. Yudkowsky eventually agrees that if given enough information, the trajectory of a prediction could be established, and would take precedence over other possible endpoints.
It's funny he says that the justification for the sun to not engulf the Earth is because "technology will keep on going", but that already presupposes that the trajectory of technology will be fast enough to stop the expansion of the sun. Like no shit endpoints are easier to figure out, especially if you just assume the ideal conditions. Isn't it a more interesting question to understand how it would get there? These prediction-markets people really love fetishizing the outcomes of systems rather than the system itself, and it just seems odd.
In electrical engineering, when a component is unknown, it's usually represented by a "black box", and a mathematical function that shows the relationship between the input of that "black box", and the output of it. Now that might be a way to handwave away the system to get a bigger picture of the circuit, but that doesn't mean that the system is useless. Engineers would want to know how that internal system actually functions, because if that system stops working as its ideal, then the predictive mathematical equation no longer works.
It sucks that this guy basically ceded his argument to destiny almost immediately rather than pushing back because this disagreement in outcome and trajectory is evident in the next big disagreement they have which is probably the thing that made me think this guy is a hack. Rather than getting into the meat of it, they just move on, and that happens so much in this conversation.

"You Definitely Don't Need the FDA"

\8]) I'll give credit where credit is due, he's said he doesn't think the ideal is to burn the FDA to the ground. However, this argument that he has is probably the most retarded opinion I have ever heard a person give on the FDA.
Yudkowsky's Argument: "For optimal outcomes... a couple of private institutions that are... purporting to certify drugs on an actually... evidence basis rather than ritual studies... ideally even a prediction market... If your civilization is functional enough to have prediction markets, you definitely don't need the FDA... on what this drug will do among the people who take it" \9])
Destiny's Argument: "Humans are intrinsically bad at evaluating certain types of risk... In a world where people are left to their own devices... people will start to short-term consume that could lead to long-term very bad effects" \10])
I honestly thought Yudkowsky was joking at first when I first heard this, but he just kept going. He brings up the fact that there are problems that occur with the FDA as it stands, such as homeopathic medicine, addiction to fentanyl, and people playing the lottery with new drugs submitted to the FDA, and assumes that if the FDA were abolished, these problems would not get any better or worse. That just seems flat-out ridiculous and is no better than some anarchocapitalist who wants to not wear their seatbelt.
It's fine I guess if you did not know, but the FDA regulates more than just drugs \11]). I kid you not, I can't believe how much these people criticize institutions without knowing fully what the fuck they do. The FDA regulates food, cosmetics, and most importantly, medical devices \12] [13]). The idea that a prediction market could be used to test the efficacy of a medical device rather than the stringent process for approval is laughable. Just like drugs, the process for approving medical devices takes multiple steps/phases to ensure that the device can be used for public or professional use \14] [15]). For example, up until 2023*, animal testing for drugs and devices was required before transitioning to human trials, and unless you're VeganGains, you would be stupid to think there are other alternatives to developing medicine. There are also phases to the drug testing process to ensure that the least amount of people are harmed. Testing on smaller sample sizes and getting a sizeable proportion of them with side effects usually means the drug is not safe enough for stage 2 and stage 3. This way, we don't harm a large proportion of people before getting an answer to the efficacy. If we implemented the prediction market setup as described in the video, this would just be objectively more harmful than the FDA.
I guess this argument is just another example of Yudkowsky looking at the outcomes of a system rather than looking into why that system functions the way that it does because if you look into the inner workings of the system, you realize that there are a lot of safeguards to keep people from abusing it and that it is literally designed to harm the least amount of people as possible.
Thank God Destiny brought up COVID, this line of argumentation was so fucking retarded.
*The reason this law may be changing is due to an advancement in technology called an "organoid" or "organ-on-a-chip" \16]) which is a pretty hotly debated topic of discussion.

AI Conversation

Was probably the most reasonable conversation this guy had, but of course, I'm too much of a layman (and so is Destiny) to give any real idea of what he was saying. It gives insight into why he likes endpoints more than trajectories, and how AI seems good at finding results without actually understanding the process.

"Babies Are Not Conscious"

I don't know if this stream was perfectly aligned for me to get triggered, but somehow the STEMcel in me has been activated. Like yeah, we can signal process neurons and change the way they interact with other neurons through a circuit model of our brains. How else do you think we made the cochlear implant? But this debate on consciousness and the brain is so far removed from any real understanding, it literally just was a hundred-year-old debate of physicalism against dualism.
Yudkowsky's Argument: Consciousness does not come from nothing, rather it's just a result of physical components coming together and doing what they are supposed to be doing in a highly sophisticated way.
Destiny's Argument: We cannot know where consciousness comes from because it seems like an entirely different property that emerges from the physical.
I honestly do not care about this argument as much, but having seen what technology can do in the past couple of years, I definitely can understand why Yudkowsky and many scientists also believe this to be true. I do not believe we have even a "legible" understanding of how consciousness works physically, and I do not know if we ever will. In terms of the brain and technology, we've been able to probe and send electrical signals to and from the brain in a way that can be read by the brain, but to say we understand that "black box" is very ballsy at the very least.

Conclusions

Eliezer Yudkowsky is probably intelligent in something, and hopefully, he's knowledgeable in his field. He seems to know a whole lot about statistics, prediction markets, and artificial intelligence, but take anything else he says outside of that with a grain of salt.
Surely there is no way an entire group of self-described rational people would pay 1k to see a guy who has no idea what he's talking about. CLUELESS

2023.04.02 01:49 Renegade561 Dark Horse Odering

Hello Iā€™ve just ordered my 2024 Dark Horse Premium. My dealer seems to be a little confused with all the different packages. From what I understand, the 700a package comes standard with cloth heated/cooled power seats. You can upgrade to leather trimmed seats for an additional cost without upgrading to recaro seats, which would still keep the heated/cooled power seats. If you upgrade to recaro seats, you donā€™t not get the option of heated/cooled seats. When I first ordered, my dealer told me it was either cloth seats or recaro seats. So I ordered cloth to keep the power heated/cooled. But I canā€™t believe Ford would not give out the option for leather in their top of line trim.
Am I correct here about leather seats are an option? Looking at the Ford website there is an option for leather trimmed seats. Buts looking at the dealer ordering guide sent to me, no leather trimmed seats are an option.
Will be calling the dealer and possibly ford back Monday to get an answer on this.

2023.03.28 13:10 SlipperyDoodoo wow. 60 days later and I am still overwhelmed with mix info.

It seems every other website to do with nimh battery "experts" takes a jab at the other competing websites and then says "the REAL way to take care of them is x. y. and z".
UPDATE: Someone else somehow misread that I am putting full batteries into the chargers. I am putting only spent batteries into the charger. I am also referencing ONLY AA NiMH batteries. Not RC toy packs or Nicad, no satellite batteries etc. Just AA. specifically Eneloop and Eneloop Pro.
Italicized is my biggest question, if none others are answered.
Is anyone out there able to clear the air about a few things for me?
  1. "partial cycles = more cycles of use". Does this mean just numerically "more cycles"? If so, well that's painfully obvious. If I use 50% of a battery and charge it up again this way twice, I will have had "2 cycles". But what the statement should determine is if partial cycles = "more mAh of use - per cell -over it's lifetime". Not just "how many times I put it in and took it out of the device / charger. "
  2. Temperature. I keep reading about "it feels hot = bad. warm = full battery". In what world is "feels warm" a tangible unit of measurement? I tried looking up the specific question "what temperature range should nimh charge at/ stay within" And again, it's all over the place. Battery experts in India say "it should be super cool. charge at 0.2A for 24 hours so that it never exceeds 35C". whereas I also read "charge it at 2A and it must never exceed 40C". Other places say "35-50C is good". Panasonic says "don't worry about anything, just use our own brand of chargers" (using the CC-65 my batteries definitely exceed 40C as the charger continues to try and push them beyond 1.5v).
  3. Voltage. Can I simply use voltage ALONE to determine if my batteries are full? Because between my... 8 chargers now, they all seem to try to push the batteries well up into the 1.5v range (and per the previous point, they ALL get pretty hot. no matter which brand or charger. all considered "decent" chargers and brands to). If so, what voltage should I be stopping at to maximize life? Again, ALL my chargers - no matter the brand - seem to want to "overcharge" my batteries. indicated by the sheer heat they always build up near and above 1.5V if left alone. Yet if I charge them at a lower amperage, say 700A, the internet says "ohhh don't do that, the charger won't be able to sense the spike and it may overcharge your cells". Then the Indian dude will say "nooo definitely ONLY do that. you need to stay within 35C temperature. you should be charging it with the lowest amperage you can. radiation from a potato for 3-11 weeks if possible" hmmm, well none of them seem to sense the heat and voltages well north of 1.5, that's for sure.
  4. SOC. I've read in plenty of places as well that you should maintain between 30%-80% charge on nimh AAs. This is the same advice as Lithium. Only, how are we supposed to see this % in real time? most devices I use don't have the ability to tell SOC %. I figured simply waiting for the cutoff is good enough, since my AA flashlights have a smart circuit that will instantly dim them to the firefly mode as a means to inform you that one of the 4 cells has dropped the voltage sum below a safe threshold. so long as you don't fall asleep with the light on, you have ample time to power down and swap at this point.
  5. Discharge function. I always thought it's best to "level" cells before recharging. That is, to bring them down to 0.9v to even them out, so that you don't throw your battery groups off balance from one always being more charged than the rest. Ive been told this is false. Why include such a feature on the higher end chargers if so? such as my Opus BT2400 and my IDST N24 which both do it. the CC65 panasonic eneloop chargers also do it (refresh mode), but they discharge, charge, and then discharge and charge again to give you a reading, rather than simply go in one direction. wasteful of cycles IMO. What's the truth?
To summarize, is there actual numbers we can go by when charging batteries to maximize life?? or is everyone on the web just beholden to their own rituals and religions on the subject? google can show you polar opposite statements just by going line by line, link by link. Or twisted variations of eachother as "true"

2022.05.08 00:10 DefinitionOk1695 Credit cards in Dubai

If you know the difference between the Emirates signature and expo card that would be helpful before answering-
basically I applied for the ENBD signature card- my main reason to get points and the aim being to accumulate enough to fly business class eventually. The whole process of getting the card with emirates Islamic took around 2 weeks - crazy when in the Uk theyā€™re desperate for you to have ccā€™s and spend money! I had to chase several times ā€¦. Finally get the card and start using it.
Only when I go to ring the bank and ask something does the bank inform that me my card isnt the signature skywards card but the expo card!! Even though I clearly applied for the other oneā€¦.
Annoyed, I ring up the bank. The man I had been dealing with convinces me that the expo card is just as good. What Iā€™m finding difficult to understand is that once Iā€™ve accumulated 10000 points with my expo card that it only works out as 1,000 miles once converted to skywards using the EI smart miles app (comes with expo card) With the signature I assume 10,000 miles is 10,000 skywards miles ! There is an annual fee for the signature card- 700aed whereas expo card is free. Other benefits of the cards are identical.
So my question is, do I go back to the bank and ask them to put me onto the card I originally applied for or just stick with expo card? Both have their perks- my issue is that if I ask to switch itā€™ll take ages and then I canā€™t use my credit card at all as will need to pay it off first.
Any advice appreciated, thanks!

2022.04.01 07:20 Professor_Stank Does a radioā€™s output wattage decrease as it ages?

This is a question I feel like I know the answer to, but I have a couple of old (40+ years old) radios that work just fine, but they donā€™t put out the same power that their spec sheets say. For instance, my Kenwood TS-700a tops out at around 6W output in FM mode instead of ā€œmore than 10W outputā€ per the manual.
Is that just a case of the finals getting old/wearing out, or could there be another culprit?
Itā€™s something Iā€™d normally just Google, but nothing Iā€™ve searched has come up with much thatā€™s meaningful.
Thanks guys!

Update- this was the only thing I was 100% sure he wouldn't do is cheat. The only thing I really trusted him in. He doesnt leave the house much. Only worked a total of like 5months in the 2years weve been together. So he rarely has the money to do anything and therefore is home 90% of the time. But he has been super shady a handful of times about wheres hes going. He used to never answer the phone when he was out. But this time he did. Either text or called back this time. Sorry if this doesnt make sense. I'm just super frustrated and have a million things running through my mind. Its fldriving me crazy.

1 a facebook message between my BF and some girl while I'm at work and come home that thursday around 830p with a migraine and went to sleep.

-----thursday jan 23----- 530p. Him. Bitā‚¬h 734p. Her. Fuā‚¬Ker 735p. Him. Come say it to my dickk 908p. Him. face I mean facešŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ 946p. Him. Dick then šŸ˜ˆ ---- just says Monday--- 810a. Him I love big tittiesšŸ˜šŸ¤£ Someone I know knew her and she sent them a screenshot with that on it. She had a bf so she didnt respond after the first time.Says he doesnt remember it must of been drunk. He deletes convos after having them for awhile. But to me being drunk isnt acceptable. And doesnt account for the last message days later at 8am. He blows it off as just joking around and wasnt serious and he would never cheat. I feel like what would of happened if she had been single? Would he of taken it farther if she responded back? He says he wouldnt of gone further cause he was joking around. Guess I will never know. Am I wrong for being hurt by this? Almost feels like it was still cheating in a way. I wouldnt text another man like that joke or like that while in a relationship

2. He drives locally for work. Left the house at 11am to be at work by noon. The trip he makes takes 3-3 1/2 hours one way. Depends on traffic. But no backups that day.

----Friday june 26---- +515p. He text me. On the way back from delivery *933p. I text him. I'm tired laying down but will still try to stay awake till u get home(which should of been soon) *1027p. I text him. Everything ok? Figured u would of been home by now. (I worry alot about him getting into an accident. So it makes me think the worst when he doesnt respond) *1035. I call him. Says hes talking with the dispatcher and a couple coworkers and he will be home soon and that he will call when hes on his way +1038p. He text me. Says on his way home. (I fall asleep at some point) ƗƗƗthis is a big gap from when he said he left work and when he called to say he was on his way to his buddies) -----saturday june 27---- +1205a. He calls me and says hes going to his buddies house to get some smoke first and then come home) *210a. I text him. Everything ok? +216a. He text me. Had to run his buddy to somewhere to get the smoke but on way back to buddies house and will be home soon +327a. He text me. Still at buddies high as hell. Want me to come home? *331a. I text him. U already know the anwser to that +336a. He text me. What? *338a I text him. U know the anwser is always yes. I've been waiting for u to come home after the first time u said u were coming home at 1038p *406a. I call him. Says not as high and can drive. Will leave in a few and head home. Mentions going to his cousins for more smoke and I told him that wasnt a good idea and he agreed. (buddy lives 20-25mins away) *617a. I call him no anwser *619a. I text him. Everything ok? +620a. He calls me. Says he went to his cousins when he left his buddies cause they smoked all that he bought and was getting more from his cousin. Disregarding that he had just agreed that wasnt a good idea. Said he was on his way home and already on the main street we live off. Which is 15mins away from our house ƗƗƗƗside noteƗƗƗ his cousin and cousin gf are druggies on hardcore stuff and said he wasnt going to be around them anymore. They aren't good people or influence for him) *653a. I call him no anwser *654a. I text him. Everything ok? U should of been here by now. *656a. I call him no anwser *659a. I call him no anwser +700a. He calls me. Says he got pulled over for a tail light that is out. Will still 15-20mins away Gets home around 720a
He was gone for a long time. I think hes lying about what all he was doing. There are big time gaps in his story I think. And if something doesnt make sense or has holes 99% of the time it's because it a lie and they cant fill in all the time gaps. Or keep what time he told me he was doing this stuff the same. He doesnt think that he did anything wrong. That I knew where he was and it should be fine. But why would he tell me he was on his way home knowing he wasnt going to? Or go to his cousins knowing I wouldnt be happy about that. And I would have to contact him to figure out where he was after saying he was on his way home. Everytime he said that it was a lie. Am I thinking too far into this? He has a history of lying alot. But says hes learned his lesson. And just gets mad when I question the time gaps and starts blaming shit on everyone else but himself. Just gets mad and says he going to sleep and I never get the answers I need. I just have this gut feeling that hes lying about where he was.
Please help! I want to share the opinions of u guys with him. He says opinions from my family or friends are biased and they want to make him look bad and just agree with me. I'm torn.....
I will update with a little more backstory as to why I freak out when he does this stuff. It's with good reason. But want your opinions on the facts first then see if u change your mind after I tell the backstory. Thanks so much

Problem
An electrical current of 700 A flows through a stainless steel cable having a diameter of 5 mm and an electrical resistance of 6 Ɨ 10āˆ’4 ā„¦/m (i.e., per meter of cable length). The cable is in an environment having a temperature of 30Ā°C, and the total coefficient associated with convection and radiation between the cable and the environment is approximately 25 W/m2 Ā· K.
(a) If the cable is bare, what is its surface temperature?

Methodology
Im having trouble with this problem. I am getting values that are greater than 5x10^5 K as the answer (which I think its pretty obvious is the wrong answer).
I started off with the equation of Ts=Tinf+qdot *L/h I then substituted qdot for a second equation which said that for an electrical system qdot=I^2Re/V where v is the volume. The volume of a cylinder is the A of the base of that cylinder time L which is the length of the cylinder. Plugging that in I get an equation that looks like Ts=Tinf+I^2*Re/(A h) Where: Tinf=30C=303.15K, I=700A, Re=6x10^-4, A=pi/4D^2, and h=25W/(m^2 *K)
Can anyone see where I went wrong?

Written by: Shannon Roddy

Strategies of Amazon Listing Optimization

It is the biggest question for any brand owner or private label: how do you properly optimize your listings to increase sales on Amazon? There is no simple answer, and it is never just ā€œone thing.ā€ Success on Amazon involves doing a multitude of things correctly, all working together to strategically generate long-term sales. In this article, I will provide not only the strategies but also the specifics surrounding listing optimization and how Amazon sellers can leverage these to achieve their goals, regardless of size or scope.

The Amazon Flywheel

When it comes to strategy and Amazon, it is essential to understand that listing optimization is only one part of the puzzle. So before we go any further, letā€™s discuss the most critical factor that we call, ā€œThe Amazon Flywheel.ā€
Image
When you consider listing optimization, it is the same as creating a beautiful landing page on a website. It can have all the right copy, beautiful images and calls to action, but if no one ever visits the page, you will never make a sale no matter how good it is.

Amazon Launch Strategy

For listing optimization to make an impact, you have to follow it up with an effective launch strategy. This involves driving internal traffic using Amazon campaigns as well as external traffic to the listing. External traffic can be anything from paid social media traffic to affiliates, partnership marketing, blogs, and even general brand awareness. For all marketing efforts that take place off Amazon, there will always be a halo effect of sales on the Amazon platform (provided they can find the product; we will cover that in a minute.)

Analyzing Amazon Listing Optimization

Once you drive traffic to the listings and generate sales, it is time to begin analyzing the results. There are typically four things we look at when effectively analyzing an Amazon listing:
  1. Sessions Number of visits by Amazon customers in a 24-hour period
  2. Unit Session Percentage Number of units purchased compared to Sessions
  3. Sales Overall gross sales of products compared to previous seasonal periods
  4. Product Reviews Customer reviews regarding the product and their experience
Taking all of these into account will give you a holistic view of how your listings are doing, instead of just examining a specific element that may not accurately paint the whole picture. For example, as you increase marketing to a broader audience, you may find that your conversion rate (or Unit Session Percentage) decreases as more people are exposed to the product, but that your overall sales go up. This is normal and should be taken as a sign of expansion; more people see the listing, less of the new audience members are interested, but overall more people are buying.
Image

Organic Keyword Ranking

Brand owners, manufacturers and private labels may have different strategies and goals, but ideally one of your goals should be to rank organically in the top 3 spots for your most highly searched and relevant keyword. Organic ranking of your products over time is one of the most significant factors of long-term success since you are generating sales simply based on Amazonā€™s use as a search engine. Currently, over 55% of all product searches start on Amazon, so if you can leverage the platform and the A9 algorithm that determines those rankings, you will be able to expand your audience and sales organically.

The Amazon Trifecta

That leads us to our second strategic principle for success that I have termed, ā€œThe Amazon Trifecta.ā€ The concept here is that for Amazon to produce your products as search results, Amazonā€™s A9 algorithm has to first be able to discover what your products are and what terms customers might type in that are relevant. This is known as Discoverability: a customerā€™s ability to discover your products.
Image
Once a customer finds your product by typing in a relevant search term, we move on to the second factor in the Trifecta, Buyability. This simply denotes how ā€œbuyableā€ your product is, meaning how likely the customer is to purchase the product once they click on it. Buyability is a combination of listing optimization, fulfillment method and price as well as the number and quality of product reviews.
For now, we will focus on the listing optimization component, and touch on the others at the end. Once a listing is optimized for Buyability, you can begin to see how Discoverability + Buyability = Rankability. If a customer enters a search term such as, ā€œSalmon Jerky,ā€ or ā€œKids Math Gamesā€, and discovers your product and buys it, that product will then rank higher organically over time for that specific search term.
It is important to remember that keyword stuffing is not a strategy. Products rank not just on Discoverability but on Buyability, so even if a listing has dozens of keywords in the title features and description, if it doesnā€™t result in a conversion, it wonā€™t rank for those keywords. Stick to a solid strategy, and you will do better in the long run.

Amazon SEO Keyword Research

You have probably realized by now that the key to Discoverability is Amazon SEO Keyword Research. (Read my previous SEMrush article on Amazon SEO). In brief, Amazon SEO Keyword Research has to do with researching the terms customers might enter to find your product and determining the most highly searched relevant terms and then strategically implementing them into the listings. In this next section, we will discuss how we recommend doing this.

Amazon Listing Optimization

There are a few aspects of Amazon listing optimization that make it more of a work of art than pure science. The first is that you need to abide by Amazonā€™s policies regarding your listings while paying attention to the protocols as described in the Category Style Guides. These Style Guides are specific to each category and should be downloaded and reviewed before getting started. Here Amazon will lay out best practices, policies and Doā€™s and Donā€™ts regarding your listing.
Next, you will want to strategically implement the primary search terms into your product title, features, description and search terms for Discoverability as previously discussed. Lastly, you will need to appeal to your customers wants and desires, questions and concerns by conveying your unique value proposition as well as the lifestyle the customer can expect to enjoy by using the product (while showing them how easy it is to use). While this is no easy feat, it can be mastered and the continual refinement over time will lead to a well-optimized listing that remains in line with Amazon policy and best practices.

Amazon Product Title Optimization

Your product title is not only one of the first things that customers see, but also the most heavily weighted search field in your listing. That means that any SEO keyword phrase you add here will have more weight than in your product description. Following are just a couple of best practices for title optimization worth mentioning.
Image
Bombshell Gear Optimized Product Title
Concise titles tend to do better as Amazon is algorithmically penalizing over-lengthy titles and since over 30% of all Amazon purchases are made on mobile devices, they should be optimized with this in mind. It is important to remember to start titles with your brand; it is the first thing customers see and is also required per the Style Guide and helps to increase brand recognition. Remember to include a unique value proposition here as it is the only thing in addition to the primary image that customers will see in the search results while viewing multiple products.

Amazon Bullet Point Optimization

Amazon Product features, or bullet points as they are often referred to, provide customers a brief overview of what your product does, why it is different and how it can make a difference in the customer's life. There are two equally effective styles for this so I will mention them both. The first is short and concise, equating to a single line or approximately 88 characters including spaces depending on the category. This allows customers to quickly and easily read the information necessary to help them make a purchasing decision. The second is writing lengthier features providing more detail and depth but can also run the risk of getting cut off (ā€œRead Moreā€¦ā€) which may result in customers not reading the information that may be helpful to them.
Image
Bombshell Gear Optimized Product Features
The second element to Amazon optimizing product features is to always remember to include the benefit to the customer in addition to the feature. A feature looks like this, ā€œ9v 700a battery.ā€ A benefit looks like this, ā€œcan stay charged up to 3 days.ā€ It matters less what your product can do, and more what it can do for the customer. Does it save them time? Make their life easier in some way? Alleviate pain? Features and benefits should always be listed in the best order by addressing customers biggest pain points first followed by the additional benefits they can expect to receive.

Amazon Product Image Optimization

Images are becoming an ever more critical component to a product's success on Amazon. We will start with the basics and then quickly dive into the more advanced uses of product images. First, the primary image needs to be on a pure white background. We recommend Upgraded Images as a source for your primary product photography. The product should fill 80% of the image and sizing should be at minimum 1000x1000 pixels, but I typically recommended 1500x1500 pixels for a nice zoomable image.
Image
Bombshell Gear Enhanced Lifestyle Image
Once you have your primary product image in place, you have plenty of options to fill the remaining image spaces (I recommend using as many as you are given). Additional images can include infographics highlighting features and product specs, lifestyle images (with or without the product), warranties and any other information that may be useful for Amazon customers making a decision.

Amazon Product Description Optimization

Over 60% of all Amazon customers scroll down to read the Amazon product description so while less prominent it is critical that companies not overlook their importance. A well-crafted product description should focus on ā€œhelping the customer imagine what it is like to use the productā€ and can contain anything from product uses to assembly instructions and more.
Image
Bombshell Gear Optimized HTML Product Description
If a company has Brand Registry you can add Enhanced Brand Content that overlays the product description which, when done correctly, has been shown to increase conversions and sales by 15% or more. Utilizing the additional layouts for images, benefits, and features that Enhanced Brand Content offers can help customers make a better-informed decision and not only increase sales but also customer satisfaction and experience.

Amazon Product Video Optimization

Videos have become one of the most effective tools you can use to quickly demonstrate your product's superiority to new customers, as well as provide helpful information making them more likely to enjoy their product and leave a positive product review. There are currently two places on your listing where videos can go: under the image block at the top (requiring Brand Registry) and below the fold under Related Video Shorts.
There is a handful of types of video you can add to your listing depending on your goals and the complexity of the product. These range from brand videos, unboxing and how to videos, as well as customer testimonials and product comparisons. For most products, we recommend placing a brand video at the top under the image block and additional videos under the Related Video Shorts section. If you don't have Brand Registry or have multiple videos, you can use a service like AMZ Product Video to easily add videos to multiple listings.

Factors Influencing Buyability and Rankability

As mentioned briefly, in addition to your optimized listing there are other factors that will influence a customerā€™s decision to purchase your products, and it's organic ranking by A9 on the Amazon platform. Fulfillment method is a critical one as over 1/3 of all Amazon customers are prime members, with a significant number preferring Free 2 Day Shipping, so utilizing FBA can be essential to achieving both more conversions as well as having Amazon rank your product higher in search results.
Price and Product Reviews are the other two factors that influence conversions and ranking, and while you may have less control over these, there is some strategy here that is important to understand. First, a product with significantly more reviews and higher reviews will almost always outsell a product that has few and poor quality reviews, despite being slightly more expensive (no one wants to buy a cheap product that isnā€™t going to work).
Second, as you continue to analyze your listings, you can see what customers like and donā€™t like or may be missing or failing to understand, incorporate those into the listing, and generate more positive reviews moving forward. We recommend using a tool like FeedbackFive to provide helpful information to customers ahead of time while asking for product reviews once they have had a chance to use the product.

Amazon Listing Optimization Summary

As you can see, there are no silver bullets when it comes to optimizing your Amazon listings. However, with the right tools, information, strategies and best practices you can craft the ideal listing, create an effective launch strategy, analyze the listings and continue to make improvements over time. Selling on Amazon requires keen attention to detail, a solid understanding of the platform and willingness to adapt as changes are made. With a great product and a little elbow grease, you can place your listing on the path to become a top ranking product or even a #1 Best Seller on Amazon.

Iā€™m not making this post to present a comprehensive argument for The Shroud's authenticity or to claim that your faith should rest exclusively on this issue, simply to inspire people to look into it because I feel that it is a genuine tragedy that more people are not aware of just how seriously it should be taken. Iā€™m no expert on the Shroud, but I have studied it fairly intensely for the past couple of years, and will try to answer questions.
In 1978, the Catholic Church gave a group of scientist unfettered access to the Shroud of Turin. The group was called STURP (The Shroud of Turin Research Project)
STURP ā€œspent over two years preparing a series of tests that would gather a vast amount of Shroud data in a relatively short period of time. STURP's primary goal was to determine the scientific properties of the image on the Shroud of Turin, and what might have caused it. In October of 1978 the STURP team spent 120 continuous hours [five days round the clock] conducting their examination of the Shroudā€
-Barrie M. Schwortz, an original member of STURP and editor of The Shroud of Turin Website
Here is a list of the STURP team. And here is a list of the peer reviewed journals in which their research has been published.
The only substantive argument against its authenticy that I am aware of is the carbon dating test conducted in 1988, but the results of that test have been conclusively shown to be unreliable because it dated a late medieval cotton repair to The Shroud along with the original linen. Here is a documentary narrating this events of this discovery. (See starting around 29 min. in)
Since then, four separate dating methods have all yielded dates that overlap in the first century A.D.
Using the kinetics of vanillin: ā€œA determination of the kinetics of vanillin suggests that the shroud is between 1300- and 3000-years old [1,000 B.C ā€“ 700A.D.].ā€ From ā€œStudies on the Radiocarbon Sample from the Shroud of Turinā€ (2005) by Ray Rogers in Thermochimica Acta
And the following three methods used by Giulio Fanti, associate professor of mechanical and thermal measurements at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Padua, Italy.
FT-IR vibrational spectroscopy analysis: 300 B.C. plus or minus 400 years with 95% confidence
Raman vibrational analysis: 200 B.C. plus or minus 500 years with 95% confidence
A measurement of the degree to which five targeted mechanical properties of flax plant fibers vary over time: A.D. 400 plus or minus 400 years with 95% confidence
ā€œThe mean of the values from the two chemical datings and the mechanical one indicates that the most likely date of the Shroud is 33 B.C. plus or minus 250 years with 95% confidenceā€ -Giulio Fanti
The image on The Shroud is like a photo negative (reversed light and dark, reversed right and left), but it predates the development of photography by 500 years (if it is a fraud) and 1,800 years if it is authentic.
The VP-8 image analyzer indicates that the image contains three dimensional information. (See starting at 7:05)
Photography does not do this.
Most bizarrely, it even displays some aspects of an x-ray image. (See starting at 57:53)
The blood on The Shroud (not the image) corresponds to the wounds of Christ, is human, probably type AB, and ā€œhas a very high content of bilirubinā€¦a breakdown product of hemoglobin produced in large quantities in cases of violent deathsā€ -Mark Antonacci The Resurrection of the Shroud
Additionally, the blood was on the shroud before the image, a very powerful demonstration that it is not a fake: Why would a forger go to the trouble of putting the blood on and then the image when putting the image on first would give a template for where to put the blood and be just as useful for fooling people after the fact?

For Christians, Christ was ā€œwith God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been madeā€ (John 1:2-3).
This claim is either true or false. If true, its bearing on the origins debate should be self-evident.
The only means I am aware of for demonstrating its truth is to demonstrate that Christ came back from the dead. The Shroud of Turin is one way of doing that. Additionally, the case for the Shroudā€™s authenticity is entirely scientific, and very powerful.
Iā€™m not making this post to present a comprehensive argument for its authenticity, simply to inspire people to look into it because I feel that it is a genuine tragedy that more people are not aware of just how seriously it should be taken. Iā€™m no expert on the Shroud, but I have studied it fairly intensely for the past couple of years, and will try to answer any questions you may have.

2015.02.03 07:37 Greypo Armadylspark: Greypoo of the Day - February 3rd, 2015

Armadylspark

Arma has a lot of karma, and 66% of their gildings have been in /CenturyClub.
What's with your username? What does it mean?
It's a long uninteresting story that I'm sure nobody would care about.
Wassup?
The ceiling.
What do you associate with Greypo?
The one guy in CC that did the thing. Yep.
Were you aware of Greddit before now?
wat.
What is your favourite image of all time?
No favourite one. Though, this one's pretty amazing. Context's a bitch.
What is the last movie that you watched? How was it?
The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies. It was exceptionally disappointing. You could tell that the CGI budget had run dry when Smaug died not ten minutes in. Also, spoilers, lel.
What subreddits do you spend most of your time in?
Probably /CenturyClub nowadays. At least, it's where I participate most. I never was big on the defaults, and the small ones don't have enough content warranting spending a lot of time in.
Are you feelin' lucky, punk?
Luck has a way of disappearing if you rely on it too much. That's why you should make your own.
What do you think when you see Greypo?
I've never seen him, technically speaking.
When are you planning to have lunch tomorrow?
Whenever I get hungry.
What is your favourite subreddit that Greypo moderates?
He moderates subs?
Other than reddit, what other websites do you frequent?
Frequent? None.
Before answering this question, what was the last subreddit you were on?
/CenturyClub. I came from there, you dipshit.
What is your favourite video game of all time?
Touhou 8. I like boolet.
Use one word to describe Greypo. And that one word better be good, or you're B&.
Inconspicious
Why did you accept this invitation to be Greypoo of the Day?
I was bored.
What is the last youtube video you watched? No context, just link.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBFBd11-HQc
Why are there so many questions in this thing?
You think 20 questions is a lot? You should TGPW's surveys. He just doesn't know when to stop it already.
If you could say one thing to Barrack Obama right this second, what would you say?
Soiled it! Soiled it!
Any last words?
Tell my family I said hello.

2014.09.12 02:37 danrant T-Mobile is clearing 700 MHz A block spectrum in Atlanta and Kansas City.

On 9/4/2014 KPXE-TV (Kansas City, MO) submitted an application to relocate to channel 30 and WPXA-TV (Rome, GA) submitted an application to relocate to channel 31. When presenting Q2 results T-mobile said that they "already cleared encumbered A-Block metro areas in 5 markets" so we should expect 3 more.
Map updated.
FAQ: How long will it take to relocate? Answer: 6-12 months. Meanwhile T-Mobile can deploy 700 MHz radio panels and light them up as soon as the spectrum is clear.
