2024.05.14 13:35 BigCharlie16 Planning a solo trip to Uluru in August (6 days)

  1. Are flies going to be a problem in August ? Where do I get a fly net ? Flying into Ayers Rock Airport. I dont normally use fly nets/ have never needed to use one… was thinking if there is a second hand shop/ place where people just drop the fly nets off for others to reuse, reduce waste. How do flys / insects survive the cold nights? I heard 5 degrees…
    1. Thinking of doing 4 Days /3 Nights adventures with Mulgas (Kings Canyon, Uluru, Olgas). Read a lot of positives reviews on trip advisor. I read it includes the park fees. I am thinking maybe the “3 days uluru park fees” eventhough its a 4 days tour ? Or are they getting the Annual Park Entrance fees, doubt so. I also read if I am going to field of lights (not included), I also need to pay park fees….so I have to pay again ? Or should I ask Mulgas to get me the Annual Entrance fees, pay them a bit extra ?
  2. The free airport shuttle bus service…between the resort and airport. Do they check air tickets (arrival dates) ….coz I might be flying into Uluru airport then take Mulgas… they drop me back to the airport 4 days later… then I wanna use my free airport shuttle to the Oasis lodge (with booking for the night of course).
Thanks

How to Choose Bathtub Manufacturers?

When selecting bathtub manufacturers, it’s essential to approach the decision-making process with a comprehensive perspective. Here are some refined considerations to guide your selection:
  1. Quality and Brand Integrity: Opt for manufacturers renowned for their superior bathtub quality. Delve into their historical performance, peruse customer testimonials, and ascertain any recognitions, certifications, or accolades underscoring their quality adherence.
  2. Material Diversity and Design Variety: Seek manufacturers who present a broad spectrum of material choices and design variations to align with your aesthetic desires and functional prerequisites. Examine offerings ranging from acrylic to cast iron, composite, and steel enamel, ensuring they can cater to your specific design preferences.
  3. Customization Capabilities: Should your project necessitate bespoke dimensions, contours, or finishes, confirm the manufacturer’s adaptability to customization. It’s imperative to collaborate with a manufacturer receptive to your distinct design specifications.
  4. Operational Efficiency: Scrutinize the manufacturer’s production prowess and delivery schedules. Ascertain their capacity to manage your order magnitude and their commitment to punctual deliveries, pivotal to maintaining project timelines.
  5. Product Warranty and Post-Sale Assistance: Investigate whether the manufacturer extends product guarantees and the nature of their post-sale services. A commendable manufacturer remains unwavering in their product support, ensuring client satisfaction post-purchase.
  6. Pricing and Value Proposition: While juxtaposing prices across manufacturers, gauge the intrinsic value extended for the expenditure. It’s salient to remember that the most economical choice might not equate to the most durable or qualitative. Strive for an equilibrium between expense and inherent worth.
  7. Eco-Conscious Initiatives: For those prioritizing sustainability, align with manufacturers championing green initiatives and sustainable material usage. Look for accreditations such as ISO or LEED as indicators of their environmental stewardship.

A Dystopian Story ~ written by me (all rights reserved)
Title: Echoes of the Past
A dark, desolate cityscape under a perpetually overcast sky. The skyline is dominated by towering, dilapidated skyscrapers with broken windows and rusted structures. Streets are empty, littered with debris and remnants of a past society. A lone figure in a tattered coat and gas mask walks down the cracked pavement, passing under flickering neon signs and malfunctioning drones hovering overhead. The air is thick with smog, and distant sounds of mechanical whirring and distant explosions echo through the desolate landscape.
In the heart of the city, once called New Eden, the figure trudged through the ruins. They were known simply as "The Seeker," one of the few who dared to venture out of the underground settlements. The Seeker’s mission was to find remnants of old technology, fragments of the world before The Collapse, to piece together a future for the remnants of humanity.
As they walked, the neon signs above flickered messages of a bygone era: “Utopia Awaits!” and “Live the Dream!”—hollow promises from a world that had crumbled under its own weight. The drones, relics of an automated age, now patrolled the skies aimlessly, their once intelligent programming reduced to malfunctioning routines.
The Seeker paused in front of a massive skyscraper, its facade marred by time and conflict. They pushed open the rusted doors, entering the darkened lobby. The air inside was stale, thick with the dust of years. Their flashlight cut through the gloom, revealing scenes of sudden abandonment: papers strewn across desks, chairs overturned, and the skeletal remains of those who hadn’t made it out.
In the silence, a distant explosion rumbled, shaking loose debris from the ceiling. The Seeker moved quickly, heading for the building’s lower levels, where the valuable relics were often found. Each step echoed through the desolate corridors, a reminder of the loneliness that pervaded this forsaken world.
In a forgotten lab, hidden beneath layers of dust and grime, The Seeker found their prize: an old mainframe, still intact. They began the painstaking process of extracting its data, hoping it held blueprints, knowledge, anything that could help rebuild. Hours passed in silence, broken only by the hum of machinery coming to life.
As they worked, The Seeker couldn’t help but wonder about the world that once was. A world of innovation and dreams, now reduced to echoes and ruins. They imagined the people who had walked these streets, lived their lives, and built this city with hope in their hearts.
With the data safely stored, The Seeker made their way back to the surface. The overcast sky greeted them once more, a constant reminder of the world’s desolation. Yet, in the face of ruin, there was a flicker of hope—a belief that the past’s remnants could forge a new future.
The journey back to the settlement was long and arduous, but The Seeker was driven by the promise of tomorrow. As they descended into the hidden depths where humanity clung to survival, they carried with them the echoes of a lost world and the seeds of a new beginning.
The Seeker, known for their solitary missions, had once been part of a larger group called the Preservationists. These individuals had dedicated their lives to collecting and safeguarding remnants of the old world, believing that knowledge was the key to humanity's resurgence. Each member had their specialty—some focused on medicine, others on technology, and a few on cultural artifacts. The Seeker's expertise lay in retrieving technological blueprints and data archives, often venturing into the most hazardous zones to find them.
Years of scavenging had honed The Seeker’s skills. They knew how to navigate the treacherous ruins, avoiding crumbling structures and hidden traps set by other scavengers. Their gas mask was a relic itself, a custom-made piece that filtered out the toxic air and allowed them to breathe in the most contaminated areas. Their coat, though tattered, was lined with pockets and pouches, each containing tools essential for their survival and mission.
As The Seeker walked, they passed landmarks of the old world—the grand library, now a hollow shell of its former self, and the central plaza, once a bustling hub of activity, now eerily silent. Each location held memories, stories, and lessons from a time when humanity thrived. The Seeker often felt a pang of sorrow for the lost potential, the dreams that never came to fruition. But they also felt a sense of duty, a drive to ensure that such dreams could be reborn.
Inside the skyscraper, The Seeker's flashlight illuminated murals and posters, faded but still visible. They depicted scenes of progress and prosperity—visions of flying cars, towering green cities, and interstellar travel. These were the promises of a society that believed it could conquer any challenge, overcome any obstacle. The reality, however, had been far less optimistic. The Collapse had come swiftly, a result of unchecked ambition, environmental neglect, and technological overreach.
In the forgotten lab, The Seeker found more than just the mainframe. There were old journals, handwritten notes, and sketches. These personal items provided a glimpse into the lives of the scientists and engineers who had once worked there. They spoke of late nights, groundbreaking discoveries, and a shared vision for a better future. As The Seeker read through them, they felt a connection to these long-gone individuals, a kinship born of shared purpose.
The extraction process was delicate, requiring precision and patience. The mainframe’s data was encrypted, a safeguard against theft in the chaotic final days of the old world. But The Seeker had encountered similar systems before and knew how to bypass the security measures. As the files began to transfer, they glimpsed blueprints for sustainable energy sources, advanced medical treatments, and even plans for rebuilding infrastructure.
With the data secured, The Seeker made their way back to the settlement, navigating through the darkened streets with practiced ease. The settlement, hidden deep underground, was a stark contrast to the world above. It was a place of warmth and light, where survivors worked together to carve out a new existence. The air was filtered, the water purified, and the crops grown using hydroponic systems. It was a fragile oasis in a desolate world, but it was also a testament to human ingenuity and resilience.
As The Seeker entered the settlement, they were greeted by familiar faces. There was Dr. Elara, the lead scientist, who had been eagerly awaiting the data. Her eyes lit up with hope as The Seeker handed her the storage device. "This could change everything," she said, her voice filled with excitement.
In the common area, children played, their laughter a rare and precious sound. They represented the future, the reason why The Seeker and the others continued their dangerous missions. The Seeker watched them for a moment, a smile forming beneath the gas mask.
Later, as the settlement’s council reviewed the newly acquired data, The Seeker reflected on their journey. The world above was a harsh and unforgiving place, but within the ruins lay the seeds of rebirth. The knowledge and technology of the past, coupled with the determination and spirit of the present, could pave the way for a new dawn.
And so, in the darkness, there was light. In the echoes of the past, there was hope for the future. The Seeker knew that the road ahead would be long and challenging, but they also knew that humanity was capable of rising from the ashes. The city, once called New Eden, might one day thrive again—not as a utopia, but as a symbol of perseverance and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

Looking for opinions on cover usage, blink usage, target priority, flanking/positioning and overall mechanics. Had good damage but I am afraid I might have shot tank too much. Specially on defense would like tips on how to position in this map. My team had rough patches even though we won we almost got held in the first and then the second. Felt at times that I was doing a lot of damage without killing anything. As I get used to playing on PC (formerly played OW in PS5 for a few months) I would like to know how my mechanics stack up.
Please forgive me for having you walkthrough brain dead Bronze gameplay, we don't know better. You are deeply appreciated (ain't going to pay you though).

2024.05.13 13:41 LivingRarely Live from Enchantment

We are cruising into Cozumel this morning and I have to get this off my chest. This boat needs to be retired.
Now, some context to my personal opinion. We have cruised on Enchantment twice before. Once in 2006 and once in 2008. 2009 was our last experience with RCL before trying Celebrity, Princess, and HAL. Our most recent cruise was February 2024 on Nieuw Statendam.
When booking, we knew the ship was old, but the itinerary was appealing since we have not been to a couple of the ports yet.
I’ve read other reviews on here about how they enjoy Enchantment, the activities, the staff. Which yes, all well and good. But the boat itself is stuck in the 90s and falling apart. The sconces in our room are being held together with tape. A drawer in the closet is completely broken and does not function. The material on the wall and wood paneling is bubbling and peeling. The furniture is very warn and is scuffed and dirty. The balcony furniture is so uncomfortable and there are cigarette burns all over the table. More rust than one would like to see. Clumps of hair and dust in the corners of the room. If I had a Magic Eraser, I’d go to town on the walls.
At some point the cabinetry was updated in our bathroom but it doesn’t match the rest of the cabinetry.
The same trend goes throughout the rest of the trip. The decor is tired and about every seat that I’ve sat in has been held together with duck tape.
If I’m not mistaken, I feel like we had been able to walk the full promenade around the boat back in the day. The front part is now roped off for storage that looks unbecoming but is probably needed for anti-rust supplies.
And unfortunately, having dined on HAL recently, the food is not good. Or even adequate. Cheap ingredients, presented in a very mediocre way. Cold food in the Windjammer, very bad cuts of meat, the runniest crème brûlée we’ve ever had, and very inconsistent bar service. Three Jack and Cokes came out three different ways, three different sizes, and we have yet to find anyone who knows what a lemon twist is. This is our first cruise where they have a fee for room service and want to charge me $80 for 24 bottles of water.
Silver lining: I really love silent disco.
In 2006 and 2008 we had a great time. If it was either of those years this review would be much different. But it’s 2024 and cruise options aplenty. Enchantment is stuck in the late 90s and it’s time she’s passed down to Margaritaville sailings as it’s the true vibe that it’s putting out.
The staff has been friendly and unfortunately they have to be overly so, to keep you from noticing the boat is literally falling apart around you.
I realize I sound very bougie. I am one of “those” people now I’m sure! Let the hate fly. I have not been on any other RCL ships other than Mariner in 2009 so I realize there are newer RCL ships. We do not like the idea of Oasis sized boats.
In summary, maybe you’ve been on Celebrity and HAL and you’ve found your way over here and are considering Enchantment. Spend your money elsewhere.

2024.05.13 13:38 saturnian_nox Student Teacher moments gone very wrong

My experience with my Resource Teacher (RT) as a Student Teacher is very emotional distressing. Resource Teacher are our mentors during our OJT days. I was assigned in Grade 10 and mataas ang sections ung hawak namin ng teacher ko. First sem, it was really good. Napakabait ng RT ko sakin, she was understanding with my personal life and nakakapagchika pa kami minsan sa breaktime namin or after class. Kaya napagmamalaki ko ung RT ko sa mga peers ko non na mabait and maluwag sya sakin. I have done my works din sa kanya naman and she applauded me for that. Everything is great until nung nagsecond sem.
Second semester, I began teaching. Although it was out of my comfort zone and my fear na magturo (in the first place, diko talaga gusto mageduc, napilitan lang), gora pa din. She gave me feedbacks and I wholeheartedly accepted it all. Sinasabi nya super bait ko daw sa students na nawawalan na ako ng authority, or masyado daw akong giddy ganon. She was my mentor so I must accept her constructive criticisms.
But my teaching demonstration is getting nearer. Good thing I planned what I wanted to do sa demo two months ago pa. When I presented my lesson plan to my RT sabi nya "Gusto ko makita kung pano mo sya ituturo". So I did, and I was a bit nervous but still confident because my plan was very me. It was creative and very student-centered. I wanted to show to my professors how I improved. I incorporated Harry Potter House Cup into one of my motivational activities and Genshin characters into my PPTs. Creativity was my strength after all.
So pinacontinue na ako. Nung nasa lesson proper na, sabi nya "amboring ng lesson mo, amboring ng pagtuturo mo. Inaantok ako" and I can feel the shame that time. My students were clearly enjoying the part na may Harry Potter akong inilagay sa motivation nila pero sabi pa ng RT ko, "ano yan? Pano yan gagawin? Ano purpose nyan ha? Diko nakikita connection nyan sa lesson". Napatigil din mga students ko non and were confused. Di ko pa nagagawa ung activity ko non dahil nagiinterrupt sya eh. My Genshin-inspired PPT was disapproved by her because she says that it's unprofessional to put cartoons since di nya nakikita ung connection sa lesson. But she literally told me before I have to make up a strategy for my students to get their attention to my lesson, therefore I thought about incorporating Genshin to my PPT. Haven't explained that to her but sinunod ko na lang sya. She was criticizing every detail of my practice na nasayang ungg oras namin dahil don. Me and my class didn't see the flow of my demo noon and I was so embarrassed and ashamed dahil ilang beses nya akong pinahiya sa harap ng klase ko. Her tone was mocking and sarcastic that time. "Nkasalalay dito ung kung pano ako makikita ng mga observers din sa pagguide sayo. Makikita nila ampanget ng turo mo. Ikaw lang ang di magaling dito, ung mga students natin magagaling yan." My tears were welling up on me pero I tried to be composed non (though I knew nakikita ng mga students ko na maiiyak na ako). Nung kinausap na ako ng RT ko, tumulo nang lahat ung luha ko. Nakakahiya na umiyak ako sa harap nya and sana diko ginawa yon pala. Sinasabi ko sa kanya puro sorry but I was mostly crying because I felt betrayed by her. Na ginawa nya un sakin, akala ko di sya ganung tao na namamahiya. I was also confused as to why she does that if she was praising how important professionalism and ethics is in this teaching world. Alam kong pinagaralan namin un before our OJT na di ka pede mangcriticize ng Student Teacher sa harap ng klase mo, mas better na pag sa end ng klase. Nung habang umiiyak ako non sabi nya "ganyan din ako dati iyakin din. Chinachallenge kita kasi alam kong kaya mo din gawin yun." I was warming up na ulit non dahil sa sinabi nya kasi may halong motivational words din pero sinabi nya bigla sa dulo na "nako may napaiyak na naman akong student teacher HAHAHA maldita kasi talaga ako" and hanggang sa umalis sya saglit sa room namin tuwang tuwa sya na napaiyak nya ako. Syempre sinasakyan ko na lang pero nung umalis sya, that scenario plays in my mind pa din. The shame, it was my first time feeling that. Tas narinig ko din sa mga peers ko na chinichika na din nya sa mga teachers nya ung umiyak ako non. But I thought baka ngayon lang to. Turns out I'm wrong na ngayon lang to.
There are still a lot of moments with my RT that is very emotionally distressing and very problematic which I'll share in the part 2. I wanted to share this for awareness of what the other side of teaching world is like. It is indeed cruel and I don't like it but it's reality. Learned that hard lesson myself.

2024.05.13 05:36 -cosmic-bitch- My First Time at [Holiday World] - Trip Report

My First Time at [Holiday World] - Trip Report
[The Raven] and [The Voyage] are pictured. Also, honeysuckles at the base of The Voyage.
Trip Report, Sunday, 05/12/2024 Waterpark was closed for the day. Every coaster except Good Gravy had a station wait. I went solo. I didn't ride anything this trip except the coasters.
My overall thoughts: This place is really in the middle of nowhere and I love it. The park was super clean. The staff was very nice, but it seemed like a lot of them were new employees. The theming was in some ways cool and a little cheesy/tacky in other ways (Dollywood is my home park though, so my expectations are just high). Halloween is my favorite holiday and they are missing opportunities here unfortunately. The sound of the Legend's bell is the coolest thing in this section. The Thanksgiving section somehow had the best music. There were a lot of places to sit and chill and the bathrooms are so conveniently placed. The whole park had a very nice, chill atmosphere. And the park smelled like honeysuckles because they were everywhere behind the fences.
I bought a pineapple/strawberry twist dole whip which was wonderful. And I bought an alcoholic iced peach tea, which was surprisingly good and not sickeningly sweet like I was worried it would be. Did not purchase food food this visit. But I do have a dairy allergy and I noticed at least some of their online menu is likely not accurate when it comes to the allergen guide, so be careful with that and ask for the binder boi guide at each individual place if it's a concern.
From my perspective, there's a pretty okay mix of coasters considering this is a smaller park. Even with 3 of them being similar woodies, they all have a personality. I love that all the coasters except Good Gravy go out into the woods. Nothing terribly scenic, but it's still nice. I am excited for night rides. The woodies were a little more rough on me than I was expecting, but still -mostly- smooth experiences. However, a small amount of debris was flying in my face/eyes on the woodies.. wonder if it's wood chips/sawdust from track updates? Or maybe just stuff that fell out of trees after those storms?? There was something notably large enough on Voyage that if it had hit my eye rather than my cheek, I think it would have damaged my actual eyeball. But thankfully, it wasn't a big deal.
Some random and potentially helpful observations: The pepsi oasis stations all have a few variations of drink options, but like half of them do not have water at them for some reason. I recommend bringing an empty bottle.
I honestly do not understand the tram system here, but they do have one. I just walked but it was not far at all. However, I did lose where I parked my car for a couple minutes.
You can place your bag/items at the station on every coaster. They have bins for loose articles.
Ride Reviews:
The Raven (7/10)(x1): I thought this was good! A bit rougher than the others and kind of short compared to everything else. But I enjoyed it and I liked the turn that went out over the water.
The Legend (10/10)(x2): Okay, hear me out.. I think I liked this one the best. I'm going to have to re-ride this and The Voyage later this season to really know for sure. They both have hella tunnels and I am so into that. But upon my first impression, I like the forces and elements on the Legend the most. I love the drop, the laterals, and the one very strong pop of airtime near the end. This coaster just has so much character.
Also, short story time! On my first ride, the train was just dispatched out of the station. While it was moving, an employee reached over the yellow safety line to grab a fallen scrunchie and the ride op immediately emergency stopped the train. We were able to get re-dispatched quickly. Just thought it was interesting and the ride op did a great job. He probably just saw someone in his peripherals go over that line and he did not hesitate. But who knows what that other employee was thinking haha.
Good Gravy (7/10)(x1): So this one I liked! It understandably had the longest wait, which was about 20-30 mins. Super cool theming. I chose to ride in the very back row. I'm sure most of you know, this ride is really the same type of coaster as Big Bear Mountain except it's a small boomerang. I would say the forces are pretty similar, and it's just as smooth. From the back row, I enjoyed the initial drop/launch and backwards portion the most. I assume for front row, the best part would be the spike. It was super short, but you do go through a cranberry can while riding in a gravy boat haha. The novelty of it all makes this coaster super fun. I also love the color scheme. Good Gravy vibes all around. I hope Holiday World adds more family coasters for the sake of the GP hahaha.
Thunderbird (9/10)(x3): I rode this one the most times because it had no wait and I basically climbed mount everest to get there lol. Got front row edge seat every time, and I tried out both sides. This ride is awesome. More forceful than Wild Eagle for sure. The loopdy loops and pulls were so snappy and fun. Great hang time at the end. I like the launch and the following element a lot, but I do think I prefer Wild Eagle's 200 ft drop to this launch. It was kind of a relief to ride this in the middle of the wooden coasters.
The Voyage (10/10)(x1): This was epic, but it was a lot to handle. It was really really fun and very long. I loved all the drops. The first drop and second hill and drop were glass smooth. There was one very, very rough spot somewhere in the layout but other than that, it was an enjoyable and intense experience. I was already exhausted by this point so next trip, I'm riding this first. But, man, was this ride a whole experience haha :)

Hey all. Had some success getting vod reviews here so far. I hit GM one-tricking kiri in Season 8 and stopped playing support in season 9, but I'm back again. I feel like my "issue" is when to play for damage and when to play to heal. I have A LOT of games where I feel like my team just can NOT stay alive. I felt like that in a lot of these games. Any tips would be very helpful.

Investing in Real Estate: Homes for Sale Near Me with Land
Investing in Real Estate: Homes for Sale Near Me with Land
When it comes to real estate investment, buying a house with land can be a wise choice. Land not only provides potential for future expansion and development but also delivers seclusion and a feeling of peace. For those contemplating investing in real estate with land, there are several important factors to take into account. In this piece, we will explore the advantages of purchasing a home with land, the different types of land on offer, and some guidance for discovering houses for sale near you with land. Merits of Investing in a House with Land There are numerous benefits to investing in a house with land. Firstly, land presents the potential for future development. Whether it involves constructing a guest house, installing a swimming pool, or establishing a garden oasis, land provides the opportunity to extend and personalize your property. This has the potential to significantly increase the value of your investment and offer flexibility to adapt to your evolving requirements. In addition, a house with land offers seclusion and a sense of space. With land, one can create a secluded retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A serene and calming living environment can be enjoyed amidst nature without the intrusive gazes of neighbors. This can be particularly appealing for those seeking a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. Furthermore, land can be a valuable asset. With the expanding population and ongoing urbanization, land becomes increasingly scarce and consequently valuable. Investing in a property with land can bring a sense of security and stability as land is a tangible asset that will always hold value. Additionally, owning land can provide opportunities for additional income, such as renting out the land for agricultural or events. Types of Land Available When looking for houses for sale with land, it’s essential to be aware of the different types of land available. Depending on your objectives and preferences, there are various types of land to consider:
Residential Land: This land type is commonly zoned for residential use and is suitable for constructing a home. Residential land can be found in suburban or rural areas and is often part of a larger housing development. Agricultural Land: Agricultural land is utilized for farming or other agricultural purposes. It can prove to be a great investment for those interested in farming, livestock, or horticulture. It can also be leased out for agricultural use to generate income. Rural Land: Rural land is typically situated in a remote or countryside area and is often used for recreational purposes, such as hunting, fishing, or camping. Rural land provides a peaceful retreat away from city life and opportunities for outdoor activities. Commercial Land: Commercial land is zoned for commercial use and is suitable for constructing retail stores, offices, or other commercial buildings. Investing in commercial land can offer business development opportunities and rental income. Waterfront Land: Waterfront land is positioned near bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, or the ocean. This land type is highly sought after for its scenic views and recreational opportunities and is ideal for constructing a waterfront home or a vacation rental property.
Tips for Discovering Houses for Sale with Land Nearby Discovering houses for sale near you with land can be an intimidating undertaking, but with the right approach, it can be a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Here are some tips to assist you in finding the ideal property:
Examine Local Real Estate Listings: Initiate your search by examining local real estate listings online or collaborating with a real estate agent who specializes in properties with land. Look for houses that match your specific criteria, such as land size, land type, and proximity to desirable amenities. Assess Your Budget: Determine your budget for acquiring a house with land and take into consideration the additional costs of maintaining and developing the land. Be mindful of potential expenses such as property taxes, landscaping, and construction costs. Contemplate Long-Term Goals: Ponder over your long-term goals for the property, whether it involves developing the land, using it for recreational purposes, or generating rental income. This will aid in narrowing down your search and locating a property aligned with your investment goals. Visit Properties in Person: Once potential properties have been identified, visit them in person to gain a better understanding of the land and its surroundings. Pay attention to the land's condition, topography, and potential obstacles or development opportunities. Engage a Real Estate Agent: Consider collaborating with a real estate agent knowledgeable about properties with land in your vicinity. A real estate agent can assist in navigating the purchasing process, negotiating with sellers, and provide valuable insights and advice. Consider the Location: Ponder over the property’s location and its distance to amenities such as schools, shopping centers, and recreational facilities. Also, examine the potential for future development and appreciation in value. Review Zoning and Building Regulations: Prior to making an offer on a property with land, review the zoning and building regulations to ensure that the land can be used for your intended purposes. Certain properties may have restrictions on land use, so it’s important to be aware of any limitations.
Final Thoughts Investing in a house with land can bring a plethora of benefits, including potential for future expansion, privacy, and value appreciation. There are various types of land available, each presenting its own unique set of opportunities and considerations. When searching for houses for sale near you with land, it’s crucial to contemplate your long-term goals, budget, and the specific traits of the land. Through thorough research and collaboration with experienced professionals, you can locate the perfect property with land that aligns with your investment goals and lifestyle. Whether you’re interested in agricultural land, waterfront property, or a rural retreat, investing in real estate with land can be a fulfilling and profitable endeavor.

2024.05.11 13:19 jzunn Shoe Buying Guide (especially for those with wide toe box, narrow and shallow heels)

I have spent the past month trying on >50 different models of shoes across 7 brands (La Sportiva, Scarpa, Evolv, Five Ten, Unparallel, Tenaya, Mad Rock) to find the ones that best suit my feet. I am a male with a street shoe size of EU 38 (UK 5, US 6) and wide toes, yet narrow and shallow heels. Just for some background, my first shoes were LS Solution Comps Women's, which I upsized by 0.5 (vs. street size) - I bought the shoe despite the poor fit (super baggy heels, which impacts my ability to heel hook well) because the shoe had great reviews (facepalm). For the Solution Comps (and performance shoes in general), it is important that the shoes fit tightly in order for you to maximise the performance potential - a factor I eschewed in favour of comfort.
Anyway, I decided to write this guide (primarily aimed at beginneintermediate climbers) because I wanted to help others in selecting shoes, especially those with the same foot profile as me - it has been a struggle to find shoes that fit perfectly!
How to pick a shoe?
Fit
First things first, the most important thing (which isn't really emphasised enough by the shoe reviews you read online) is fit. Everyone's feet are slightly different (toe width, heel width and depth, arch height, toe profile e.g. Roman, Greek, Egyptian) and you need to take that into account when selecting shoes. Your shoes should ideally fit like a sock (i.e. no space/gaps anywhere - remember to check the toe box and the back and bottom of the heels) and your toes should be slightly curled and positioned at the very front of the shoes - the shoes will probably feel slightly uncomfortable but shouldn't feel overly painful.
There are a few helpful websites that I used to narrow down which shoes to try (take them as a rough guide because there are some shoes that are made for narrow feet that I find relatively comfortable):
Lots of shoe models tend to have a men's/women's (or high volume/low volume) variant. If you have narrower feet, try the women's/LV variant. Because I have quite small feet, I found that stores typically don't stock my size in the men's/HV version.
I would recommend you try shoes in stores or at demos because then you can benefit from the expertise of the person at the store. Some stores might let you try climbing in the shoes for a few minutes, which really helps you identify if there are any pain points (at the very least, you should try walking and tip toeing in the shoes to see if they cause problems for your toes or if the heel slides off easily). Bear in mind that shoes at demos have already been worn in so if you buy the same size new, it will feel very different.
One other point I would add is that a lot of people don't have a good gauge of their own feet (me included!) and buy trainers that don't necessarily fit their feet well (so their street size is incorrect). If you can, I would recommend going to a dedicated running shoe or hiking shoe store (in the UK, you can try Runners Need or Cotswold Outdoors, etc.) where they have machines/devices to measure your foot length and width and assess whether you have high/low arches. I never realised I had wide feet (I always assumed they were narrow because my shoe size is small) until I went to buy hiking shoes and nothing fit right.
What is the purpose of your climbing shoes?
You need consider the purpose of your climbing shoes:
The above factors impact several dimensions of the shoe:
One thing to note is that if you are a beginner in climbing, it probably makes sense to buy a "beginner" shoe (e.g. LS Tarantula, Scarpa Reflex, Scarpa Helix, Evolv Defy/Elektra, Tenaya Tanta, Boreal Joker, Five Ten Kirigami, etc.) because you will likely have poor footwork (which means you will burn through the rubber quickly) and you will likely not be comfortable wearing shoes with aggressive profiles. There are also some "beginner" shoes with more performance-oriented features (toe patch, stickier rubber, more asymmetric, more downturned, etc.) like LS Finale, Evolv Kronos/Kira, Scarpa Veloce.
It's important to emphasise that your climbing technique is more important than the shoes you wear. A lot of people (me included) get caught up wanting to buy the "best" shoe and downsize aggressively but it's important to think whether it is actually necessary (do you need Solution Comps to climb V2?) and productive (if your feet are in severe pain, will you want to climb?) Of course, ultimately it's your money and if a shoe makes you happy, then buy it!
Sizing
One area of buying shoes that is a bit finicky is shoe sizing. Different brands size shoes differently and as a general guide, La Sportiva, Scarpa, and Tenaya typically require you to downsize by 1-2+ sizes, while I find that Evolv, Unparallel, Five Ten, and Mad Rock tend to match street size (or be within 0.5-1 size of street, even requiring you to size up sometimes).
There are a few websites that provide shoe sizing recommendations:
Shoes that fit my feet (wide toes, narrow and shallow heels)
I have duck feet (wide toes, narrow and shallow heels), a Greek toe profile, and relatively flat feet and for me, the biggest limiting factor when it comes to climbing shoe fit was my shallow heels, followed by my wide toes (narrow shoes sometimes caused pain for my 4th and 5th toe but this wasn't as big of an issue as my shallow heels) - I didn't find that my Greek toe profile and relatively flat feet limited my shoe selection. I have a low pain tolerance and on top of that, I don't want to risk having any foot issues from downsizing aggressively (going for a very tight fit can increase the probability of things like bunions, Morton's neuroma, Haglund's deformity, etc.), especially considering I am only climbing V5.
Here are the shoes that I found fit my feet very well:
Note that for the Unparallel shoes, Anasazi Pro LV and Veloce Women's, I could have downsized by 0.5 and still fit into the shoes, but I value comfort. I found the Zenist Women's and Geshido Women's fairly painful to break in at street size but too loose if I sized up by 0.5.
Other shoes that people recommend for wide feet that I found didn't fit my heels (generally, the heel was too deep/wide/bulbous, especially for LS shoes - for clarity, by too deep, I mean that the bottom of my heels don't touch the bottom of the shoes):
Of course, everyone's feet are different so even if those shoes don't fit me, they might fit you perfectly so I recommend trying them, if possible!
Hope this helps!

2024.05.10 17:50 jzunn Shoe Buying Guide (especially for those with wide toe box, narrow and shallow heels)

I have spent the past month trying on >50 different models of shoes across 7 brands (La Sportiva, Scarpa, Evolv, Five Ten, Unparallel, Tenaya, Mad Rock) to find the ones that best suit my feet. I am a male with a street shoe size of EU 38 (UK 5, US 6) and a wide toe box, yet a narrow and shallow heel. Just for some background, my first shoes were LS Solution Comps Women's, which I upsized by 0.5 (vs. street size) - I bought the shoe despite the poor fit (super baggy heels, which impacts my ability to heel hook well) because the shoe had great reviews (facepalm). For the Solution Comps (and performance shoes in general), it's important that the shoes fit tightly in order for you to maximise the performance potential, a factor I eschewed in favour of comfort.
Anyway, I decided to write this guide (primarily aimed at beginneintermediate climbers) because I wanted to help others in selecting shoes, especially those with the same foot profile as me (it has been a struggle to find shoes that fit perfectly)!
How to pick a shoe?
Fit
First things first, the most important thing (which isn't really emphasised enough by the shoe reviews you read online) is fit. Everyone's feet are slightly different (toe width, heel width and depth, toe profile e.g. Roman, Greek, Egyptian) and you need to take that into account when selecting shoes. Remember that your shoes should ideally fit like a sock (i.e. no space/gaps anywhere - check the toe box and back and bottom of the heels), your toes should be slightly curled and positioned at the very front of the shoe and the shoe will probably be slightly uncomfortable (without being overly painful). There's a few helpful websites that I used to narrow down which shoes to try (but tbh, this is just a rough guide because there are some narrow shoes that I didn't find uncomfortable for my toe box):
Lots of shoe models tend to have a men's/women's (or high volume/low volume) variant. If you have narrower feet, try the women's/LV variant. Because I have quite small feet, I found that stores typically didn't stock my size in the men's (or HV) version.
If you are able to try shoes in store or at demos, I would recommend it because then you can benefit from the expertise of the person at the store (note that shoes in demos have already been worn in so if you buy the same size new, it will feel very different). Some places might let you try climbing for a few minutes in the shoes, which really helps you identify if the shoe is painful or not (at least try tip toeing in the shoes to see if there's a lot of pain at the top of the toes or if the heel slides off)
Type of shoe
You need to consider what the purpose of your shoes are (e.g. which terrain you climbing, e.g. indoors or outdoors and for outdoors, what type of rock; which climbing discipline; comfort vs. performance), your weight and foot strength (I believe that heavier climbers and those with less trained feet typically prefer stiffer shoes for the support on edges), and your pain tolerance, which impacts several dimensions of the shoe:
One thing to note is that if you are a beginner in climbing, it probably makes sense to buy a "beginner" shoe (e.g. LS Tarantula, Scarpa Reflex, Evolv Defy/Elektra, Tenaya Tanta, Boreal Joker, Five Ten Kirigami, etc.) because you will likely have poor footwork (which means you will burn through the rubber quickly) and you will likely not be comfortable wearing shoes with aggressive profiles. There are also some "beginner" shoes with more performance-oriented features like LS Finale, Evolv Kronos/Kira, Scarpa Veloce.
It's important to emphasise that your climbing technique is more important than the shoes you wear. A lot of people (me included) get caught up wanting to buy the "best" shoe and downsize aggressively but it's important to think whether that is actually necessary (do you need Solution Comps to climb V2?) and productive (if your feet are in severe pain, will you want to climb?) Of course, ultimately it's your money and if a shoe makes you happy, then buy it!
Sizing
One area of buying shoes that is a bit finicky is shoe sizing. Different brands size shoes differently and as a general guide, La Sportiva, Scarpa, and Tenaya typically require you to downsize by 1-2+ sizes, while I find that Evolv, Unparallel, Five Ten, and Mad Rock tend to match street size (or be within 0.5-1 size of street).
There's a few websites you can use that provide shoe sizing recommendations:
Shoes that fit my feet (wide toe box, narrow and shallow heels)
From my experience, I found that a lot of shoes fit my wide toe box relatively ok (the hotspot was typically my 5th toe) but I really struggled to find shoes that fit my shallow heels. Just to provide some context, I have a low pain tolerance and don't want to risk having any foot issues from downsizing aggressively (going for a very tight fit can increase the probability of things like bunions, Morton's neuroma, Haglund's deformity), especially considering I am only climbing V5.
In case anyone has duck feet like me (I also have a Greek foot profile but I find that that doesn't limit my shoe selection much), here are the shoes that I found fit very well:
Other shoes that people recommend for wide feet that I found didn't fit me (generally, the heel was too deep/wide/bulbous, especially for LS shoes):
Hope this helps!

2024.05.10 01:30 Afcmanchester Oasis overland-experiences?

Curious if anyone has ever traveled with oasis overland. I’m currently looking into their 75 day safari from Nairobi to Cape Town departing in September. I’ve seen a lot of good reviews online but many of them are years old. If anyone has any experiences with this company I’d be interested to hear what you thought!
