OK, I (World's Laziest Dad!) have a daughter (Apple of My Eye) graduating college (halfway across the country) and she's got her first post college job out East, so she needs a car. First problem is, she doesn't yet have an apartment (she was hoping to have that ironed out before buying the car, but likely won't). We will be paying cash for the car (no loan) so at least that simplifies the car purchase somewhat.
Question #1: For registration purposes, can she put my address (the house she grew up in) even though it's 1000 miles from where we'll buy it and where she'll drive it? Once she does get an apartment, will she then need to do anything like change the registration address?
Question #2: She's always been on my insurance policy (State Farm) which covers my vehicles. Since this will be her first vehicle, should she have her own policy or do I add her vehicle to my policy? Seems like since she'll be so far away it'd be best for her to have her own policy (even if I pay it), that way if she has a claim it doesn't ding me (since she'll be city driving every day, whereas up to now she never has and has only done local suburb type driving).
Question #3: We'll be buying the vehicle somewhere in the Bostonish area (so MA). Anything I need to know about car buying that would differ from what I'm used to (Upper Midwest no-haggle dealers have been where I've bought my last 10+ vehicles)?
Anything I'm missing or not thinking of? I know she'll need to get a driver's license once she gets settled into her apartment (she has one from our state for now though).
Appreciate the help and advice!
GL2U N all U do!

2024.05.14 02:12 Adventurous_Wait_930 Hail Damage

I recently had quite a bit of hail damage on my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. Got an estimate from a trusted body shop and it came out to $9,000. With the miles and options my truck has I think it’s worth around $20k-$23k. I’m just wondering if the insurance will total it or not. From generic websites I’ve found online I don’t think it will but from talking to actual people they say they will total the truck. I have Farm Bureau in East Tennessee.

2024.05.14 00:11 austincamsmith The Road - Some Observations from another read-through

Hi Folks,
I just finished another read-through of The Road. This is perhaps my 3rd or 4th full read-through since my first reading in 2017. I'd shared a few of these thoughts on a previous thread last week, but now that my reading has wrapped up, I thought I'd expand on them a bit here. I'm not quite sure how many more re-reads of this book I have in me now that I have young nieces and nephews as this book'll pretty much tear you up, ha. Anyhow, I do this mostly to collect some of my thoughts, but also in hopes that it might aid others wondering about some of these things:
Setting and locations:
Having grown up stomping around North Georgia, Eastern Tennessee, and Western North Carolina, it feels very clear to me that this is the intended setting. A "resort town in the mountains" is mentioned at one point. I have a feeling that this might be the little town of Bryson City, which also got a mention in Suttree as a tourist town, though it could also be Highlands or similar. There are also numerous beautiful waterfalls in this area pouring close to the Blue Ridge Parkway such as the one the father and son visit and swim in. South of this area is the Piedmont (also mentioned) of South Carolina. I suspect the father dies somewhere in East Georgia just from the timing and distance travelled, but there's no other clues given to that I feel. I know there has been much discussion and research done about this, but I am simply here to say that I agree with it. I intentionally have not read the details of that research yet so that I can chew on it a bit more, myself, first.
"The empty parking lot at the overlook"..."it's the gap." - maybe Jones Gap south of Brevard, NC?
Gnosticism I picked up more of the gnosticism in the book this time. A few of the visuals are reminiscent of some used in other books:
"This the day to shape the days upon" - the image in both Blood Meridian and The Passenger of reality being something put together in a forge.
Another Suttree link:
In addition to the above mentioned possible Bryson City link...
Cormac describes "people sitting on the sidewalk in the dawn half immolate and smoking in their clothes. Like failed sectarian suicides." Others have mentioned here the link between the name "Suttree" and suttee (also spelled: sati), the Hindu practice of a window burning herself on her husband's funeral pyre.
Naturalism, The Ending, Mystery
I've always read the ending as both elegiac for the world that has gone by and as a shout at the void in defense of beauty and life. "These things were real, they were good and beautiful, they were important, they were meaningful, the void cannot take them even after I am gone and no longer here to lament them, they exist permanently, I believe it even if I can't prove it or show how."
There are multiple small moments in the book that quietly are in conversation with that final paragraph where catholic ideas of rituals, litanies, and memory are visited:
"He stood on a stone bridge where the waters slurried into a pool and turned slowly in a gray foam. Where once he'd watch trout swaying in the current, tracking their perfect shadows on the stones beneath."
"he'd stood at such a river once and watched the flash of trout deep in a pool, invisible to see in the teacolored water except as they turned on their sides to feed. Reflecting back the sun deep in the darkness like the flash of knives in a cave."
"There were times when... he would begin to sob uncontrollably... he wasn't sure what it was about but he thought it was about beauty or about goodness."
"when he bent to see into the boy's face under the hood of the blanket he very much feared that something was gone that could not be put right again."
"What do I have to do? Tell us where the world went."
"Do you think that your fathers are watching? That they weigh you in their ledger book? Against what?... I think maybe they are watching, he said. They are watching for a thing that even death cannot undo and if they do not see it they will turn away from us and not come back."
"Make a list, recite a litany. Remember."
What does it mean, this beauty? Is it real? Can a man stand on it and believe he is standing on something outside the reaches of annihilation?
The word "mystery" in the last sentence is also very specifically chosen. In the Catholic meaning (Cormac was raised Catholic), mystery is "a divinely revealed truth whose very possibility cannot be rationally conceived before it is revealed and, after revelation, whose inner essence cannot be fully understood by the finite mind."
All of this speaks to a question that McCarthy has plumbed his entire career and would return to again explicitly in The PassengeStella Maris: "When we and all our works are gone together with every memory of them and every machine in which such memory could be encoded and stored and the earth is not even a cinder, for whom then will this be a tragedy?"
I believe the final paragraph is an answer to that question: the sublime has a permanence that remains, like an afterimage (to use another phrase from The Road), even after we are gone. You must believe it and simply perhaps feel it - like a trout in your hand, polished and muscular and torsional - more than you understand it.
Anyhow, I hope this gives some food for thought.

2024.05.13 20:08 frostdemon34 My fellow Americans, which side are you in the 2nd american civil war (Kaiserreich universe, more context below)

My fellow Americans, which side are you in the 2nd american civil war (Kaiserreich universe, more context below)
The Kaiserreich is a hearts of iron 4 mod and alternate history story. Based on "what would happen if germany won ww1." I will not go over the entire lore, just the 2nd american civil war. So how did America end up like this? Herbert Hoover. He won the 1932 election and we all know how bad he was as a president. This basically enabled more government corruption, and unregulated capitalism, which didn't really help during the great depression. which caused factions to pop up across America to bring change in the government.
Factions: United States of America (loyalists): the US government has a harder time to deal with a divided America in this 2nd round. With a incompetent government, General Douglas Macarthur (aka the american ceaser) ceased the executive branch with congressional support, declared martial law, and inaugurated himself as the commander in chief vowing to root out the rebels and restore the rule of law. "Down with the traitors up with the stars!" Capital: DC (Detroit if DC falls) Loyal states: west and normal Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Southern Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming (doesn't exist), Idaho, Montana, ND, SD, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa
The American Union States (the south): main party of the south is the America First Party (real life isolationist and nationalist group) led by Louisiana governor Huey Long with the slogan "every man a king." This is more of a conservative faction rather then a liberal one with ties of the confederacy and sympathetic towards the germans. Capital:Atlanta Loyal states: NC, SC, Arkansas, Northern Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
Combined syndicates of America: syndicatism is like communism but uses trade unions as their way of spreading their ideology rather than using a vanguard party. Led by Marxist journalist Jack Reed, he vows to topple the American government and "liberate" America into one syndicatist movement. Instead of States, their called communes. Capital: Chicago Loyal communes: (great lakes area) new york, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota. Aka the red rust belt.
New England: a bit more lore in the Kaiserreich universe. After the defeat of the allies in ww1, France and Britain went through a Civil war of their own against the syndicatists. The French republic and its loyalist forces, became a exiled government and fled to northern Africa. While the British government, royal family, and their loyalists fled to Canada. When the Civil war broke out, new England became a protectorate state in the British Empire. They did this because they want nothing to do with the civil war and sought british protection as a way to defend themselves from the oncoming flames. Capital: Boston
Pacific states of America: the only reason why the west coast succeeded is because they don't wanna be attacked as well and went for the defensive strategy, rather than focusing on beating all other sides. They consider themselves the rightful successors of the United States of America and that all other sides lost their way and forgot what America stood for. "People of the true america, once the wolves of the east are done eating each other, we march onward to Unite us once more from sea to shining sea." Capital: Sacramento Loyal states: Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington.
Hawaii and puerto rico: declared independence
All other islands ceased by the Japanese.

We are doing a big road trip loop through the south east into the north east. Any recommendations for some chill off road routes with good views, camping, or just a fun drive? Will be driving a stock Jeep Cherokee trailhawk; I’m not afraid of some rough trails, but want to keep chill’ish for obvious reasons. Will be in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont and New York. Thanks!!!

2024.05.13 17:00 bedpan4u EV Insurance In Canada

Just an FYI post.
I am trying to decide on an EV for my Wife and I... I guessed insurance would be close and likely not part of our decision making process. I had to call the insurance for another unrelated mater (not a claim!) so thought I would as though. Just rough numbers for now but thought it worth sharing.
Current Car 2015 Sonata - $1608/yr
2024 Model Y Standard Range - $2197/yr
2023 Mustang Mach E Premium AWD - $2892/yr
2024 Blazer EV RS - $2602
2024 Equinox EV RS - $1994
I should have asked for the Mach E Standard as well. I priced the premium extended as the local dealer has a demo for about $7k off which puts it in our potential price range.
Edit This is Ontario east of the GTA, middle aged with clean records and no claims for quite awhile
Edit2 I will also add I have 2 young drivers in the house both occasional.

Presidential Term of Adna Chaffee (1901-1905) American Interflow Timeline
(Writer's Note: Understanding this summary will require previous knowledge of the posts about Chaffee's foreign and domestic policies. Any reference that needs past context will be linked to their respective posts)
Until the ends of the earth we shall fight for our values, our freedom, our sovereignty, and by the grace of Almighty God, America and its people shall triumph forevermore.” - Adna Chaffee in his inaugural address Adna Chaffee’s Cabinet
Vice President - George B. McClellan Jr.
Secretary of State - Champ Clark
Secretary of the Treasury - Elihu Root
Secretary of War - Robert F. Broussard
Postmaster General - Robert Borden
Secretary of the Navy - George E. Chamberlain (resigned March 1903) Frederick Eaton
Secretary of the Interior - Jim Hogg
Attorney General - Philander C. Knox
Secretary of Sustenance - Moses Kinkaid
Secretary of Public Safety - Edward Carmack
Secretary of Labor and Employment - George Westinghouse
Fearing The Chaffean Cabal
Hancock D.C., United States of America, February 4, 1901
Mr. Moody, the gravity of this situation is straining to members of the opposition.
I agree to your sentiment, but forming an administration such as this is in total legal power of the president. We may oppose these appointments in Congress, but as long the Patriots have the majority of confidence in the chambers, our voices are irrelevant. All we can hope is for moderacy to prevail.
The Speaker of the House and Senator Wanamaker has already voiced the totality of his support for the president’s selection. Mr. Hanly, we cannot expect us to be victorious in blocking this new cabinet, especially as public pressure demands of us approval for a functioning government. May you read the list aloud again?
For State, James Beauchamp Clark of Missouri. Treasury, Elihu Root of New York. War, Robert Broussard of Louisiana. Postmaster General, Robert Borden of Nova Scotia. Navy, George Chamberlain of Mississippi. Attorney General, Philander Knox of Pennsylvania. Interior, Jim Hogg of Texas. Sustenance, Moses Kinkaid of Dakota. Public Safety, Edward Carmack of Tennessee. Labor and Employment, George Westinghouse of Pennsylvania.
Never since the Barnum administration has a presidential administration been so clearly partisan. These men hold very extreme, reformist, and hawkish views, the country will veer very far off from what President Custer created.
chuckles, Alas, we can do nothing but do our work here in the House of Representatives. Perhaps, we should not fear this for now.
sighs, If that that is what your mind is speaking to you, then I cannot oppose it. After all, we are now partners in opposition.
The previous Custer administration had been marred by the Bryan-Russell rivalry which split the old presidential cabinet in pieces. It was custom that presidential cabinets be diverse in order to please either side of a political debate. As the old administration left, it was expected that a similar status-quo structure would be put in place to appease both hawkish hardliners and isolationist reformists, however the end result was far from that thought. The Chaffee administration was packed solely with so-called “ruffian” individuals, those who held interventionist, nationalist, social reformist, and near imperialistic philosophies. Cabinet members such as Champ Clark, Robert F. Broussard, Moses Kinkaid, and George Westinghouse were chosen due to their alignment with a ‘Chaffean’ belief. The more ‘reactionary’ members such as Vice President McClellan, Jim Hogg, George E. Chamberlain, and Edward Carmack still mostly held firm in their loyalty to the administration. The more ‘reformist’ column which included Elihu Root, Robert Borden, and Philander Knox, though more likely to be uncomfortable with the actions of the other cliques, still abided by the circle as a whole. Though terrifying for his political opponents, this powerful administration would be a blessing to the president himself, smoothing the path to get actions done.
President Chaffee during a visit to the Philippine Islands after the German negotiations
The Great Axe
Upon the axing of the ‘bloated’ bureaucratic Custerite system, the government experienced the first surplus in budget in decades. These policies were mainly devised by the machinations of Secretary Elihu Root and Attorney General Philander Knox. Many of the departments and sub departments created by the old administration were either merged, reassigned, or eliminated entirely. Funds for government-instituted programs were reallocated into the economic restructuring and control funds, killing off many public programs.
Attorney General Knox took a much harder stance on monopolies and repealed many of the protections handed to them by the Custer administration. Working with Secretary Carmack, the monetary ventures of these companies were now monitored by Bureau of Public Safety, and often threatened government intervention if practices were not up to standard. To the dismay of many radical anti-monopolists, the administration refrained from breaking up these monopolies and they continued to grow their empires that spanned the entire country, only now with increased government surveillance. On the other hand, new policies empowered small business and funds were reallocated to support non-monopoly affiliated business. Though these small business finally did detach themselves from the shadow of monopolies, in many areas competition remained harsh of them as the larger and more wealthy corporations dominated consumers.
Secretary Knox at work
In an attempted to stir back competition, Congress passed the Roosevelt-Garfield Bill in May 1902, penned by Representative Theodore Roosevelt of New York and Senator James R. Garfield of Ohio. The bill capped the wealth and support received by regional wings of corporations in “designated developing areas”. Harsh fines and possible shutdowns were imposed to any that tried disobey or cheat the law. Domestic American business saw a more competitive landscape throughout the coming years, though the wealth gap between big and small business still widened.
The Prince of the World
In a recent news report posted in the Hartford Courant, an interview with esteemed writer and author Mark Twain in February of 1903 caught the attention of many. The interviewer asked Twain a question regarding his past comments about President Chaffee, “In less than 10 words, how would you describe the foreign policy of the president.”. Twain paused for a moment and responded, “Ambition to a near toxic degree.”. Twain coined the term “Chaffean Policy”, and his sentiments were shared by most of the President Chaffee’s critics in foreign policy.
Chaffee famously declared in his tantalizing second round campaign speech that he would find America’s place under the sun. To most, Chaffee would deliver on that promise in a mere few years. America would achieve these feats quick and ambitiously. The American military occupation of Fujian Province and its establishment as part of the American sphere of influence was a victory to those who sought to expand American prowess in the Fat East. The American intervention to support the Filipino republics against the Germans who acquired the Spanish Philippines empowered the anti-German nationalists. The incidents at Manchuria and the souring of Russo-American relations bowed in favor of those who saw the Russians as autocratic tyrants. The establishment of American representation and interests in the Congo General Administration pleased the African opportunists. The quashing of the protests in Bahia Blanca strengthened those who wished to expand influence in South America. The US even demanded that the Argentine protestors be harshly punished by the Argentine government, which stirred the country's public even more. All in all, one group was certainly ecstatic of foreign policy the new administration was veering towards, the nationalist-imperialists.
American-administered railway construction in the Congo General Administration
These policy gave Chaffee’s administration immense bi-partisan support from the imperialists of the political spectrum. After the US was able to negotiate with the Germans not to continue their conquest of the Philippine Islands, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge would praise the president’s policies in a speech. “Never before has America shined so brightly to all societies of the world. Each step we take, we walk closer to the golden throne of a perfect civilization. There we shall take our rightful place as Prince of the World, under the service of the Lord, our God and Christ the Savior.”. The President himself was consistent in his constant declares of “American Sovereignty” against the grand foes that seek to dismantle it. Though notoriously less rambunctious and outgoing than his predecessor, Chaffee’s rare appearances gained much fanfare to his supporters, especially if he spoke out directly to them. The opposition continued to oppose these policies, the radicals and anti-imperialists joining forces to counteract the nationalist machine. Representative Hiram Johnson would try to push for an impeachment for Secretary Carmack, due to his actions in Bahia Blanca that led thousands deported, though his efforts fell flat. To the wider public, imperialism was either a non-concern or a broad support. A majority of American would not oppose these policies, most of them saying it was for the betterment of American prestige and international power.
Mass deportation of Argentine war immigrants back to Argentina
With fears that a possible conflict may stir up between the US and any other nation, Chaffee ordered Secretary of War Broussard and the War Department to hastily prepare a last resort war plans in case of war with every single major power in the world stage. Acknowledge the gargantuan task of defeating any major powers, the war plans describes very desperate and depraved tactics, such as using chemical warfare and bombarding international shipping. The plans would also describe the spoils of war that the US would seize if they were the win against their foes. Broussard's plans were kept top secret and never showed publicly, though many rumors got out and spread throughout the rooms of lawmakers, however those rumors was mostly either dismissed or sidelined by the general public and basically unknown to the rest of the world.
The Disobedient Son
While feelings of American expansionism were warm at home, abroad it utterly enraged many. In a golden room in a place in Berlin, Philipp, Prince of Eulenberg, after his meeting with George von Lengerke Meyer regarding the Philippines, told Vice Chancellor Arthur von Posadowsky-Wehner, “Americans are a brash and egomaniacal people. Always seeking glory, but never willing to sacrifice. Their great leaders of old, Hancock, Clay, Hale, would weep at the sight of this nation that stands before us.”.
The Kaiserreich was increasingly growing ambitious and hostile policy in the world stage. Along with her ally, the British Empire, they counterbalanced the Franco-Russian Entente for supremacy on the world stage. Woes for a conflict were already brewing in Europe. In the German-aligned Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia (informally the Kingdom of Illryia), tension was growing with the Russophile Balkan-Slavic intelligentsia and the German ruling class, reigned by Bernhard von Saxe-Meiningen, or by his regal name King Konstantin I. A military arms race between the French and the Germans continues to flare up as both vie to be the premier continental power. The Germans would still hold claim the mostly ethnically and linguistically German Rhineland, which had been handed to the French after the Napoleonic Wars. The British and the French would compete for their massive colonial empires, seeking to establish dominance as the greatest empire in history. It didn’t help that Secretary of State Clark openly denounced the “colonial competition” of the French and the British, saying it put global peace in jeopardy. Clark sent multiple letters to UK Prime Ministers Robert Gascoyne-Cecil and Charles Spencer denouncing the UK’s policy of “encroachment”, stating that wherever the French sought to spread influence, the British would follow.
The Franco-British \"Great Game\" would distract both governments from fully decrying the US
The United States would be viewed as a bumbling yet dangerously ambitious nation, one that the Germans sought to keep passive and behaved. The US had aligned neither with the Franco-Russian nor the Anglo-German alliance, historically holding a famed neutral stance in global squabbles. However as President Chaffee’s more hawkish foreign policy began to soar the US above what the foreign empires expected, those nations began to antagonize the Americans. Even the French, who have a merely professionally lukewarm relationship with the US, began to get anxious. French Prime Minister Georges Picquart would describe the American foreign policy as “…inherently hostile to all non-Americans.”. Though no foreign nation would threaten military action against the US, the sentiments established would lead to many nations seeking American to stay put during foreign affairs. The Argentine public particularly had a rabid distain for the US. After their loss in the war, Argentina would suffer crippling economic conditions, further exacerbated by their political divisions and lack of national confidence. The new Argentine president sought to rebound relations with the US, which angered many of the populace who demanded to cut off relations from their former foe. The growing hostility of these nations was apparent to many in the government, though their reactions were muted and unenthusiastic. Most simply shrugged this concern off as unimportant. Senator Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., recently appointed to the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, would state “The hostility and discrediting from foreign governments against the United States is matters that that foreign government solely has dictation over. Our government has no command over that they may say or do.” Holmes' address was met with cheers from the chambers.
The things he allows...
The first Chaffee cabinet would be one of the most politically powerful and influential administrations in American history. Coordinating excessive actions such as the expulsion of all Argentine immigrants, the grand “War on Crime”, the exaltation of the Hancockian Corps, and the detachment from the gold standard to fiat currency. Secretary of Labor and Employment Westinghouse moved ambitious yet business-friendly employment policies. Westinghouse imposed many policies that benefited the technological sector of the market, and many technological feats were aided by and complete by Westinghouse’s investments. Westinghouse’s company went beyond electricity and aided in the creation of groundbreaking inventions. Such as the “Whirl-craft”, the first American flying helicopter in 1903. Westinghouse would be a common figure of criticism by opponents. As the Housing Crisis continued and the costs of housing continued to be high, Westinghouse’s department was criticized in their inaction. Many saw that it was Westinghouse’s job to combat the issue, yet he did little to address the problem.
Secretary Westinghouse was a patron of rapid technological advancement
Secretary of Sustenance Kinkaid helped to imposed the “Market-by-Market” system. The government would classify a business based on their productivity, general environment, and profits. With the data collected, they get classified as either THRIVING, COMFORTABLE, or IN JEOPARDY. Based on their classification, it would determine the amount of aid and support they would receive from their local governments. While this system did revive thousands of small businesses that were on the brink of collapse, certain opportunistic administrators would forcibly close down IN JEOPARDY business that cut costs that would go in supporting them. States like Illinois and California would be the most notorious for their business shutdowns, as dictated by their local governments. Many local officials would get canned by their involving in this practice, such as Milwaukee Mayor David Rose, who shutdown many business in the city. Local legislators across the country would always try to push or support the practice of the man on top. Elsewhere however, such as in Texas and Virginia, local business thrived under the system. Someone who didn't thrive was a particular John D. Rockefeller, who was enraged that the government seemed to discriminate against his businesses. Rockefeller wrote in an open letter that "...no fair ground and no consistent market means no capital and no benefits for all.".
Most notorious out of all Chaffee’s cabinet was Public Safety Secretary Edward Carmack. Feared by both politician and civilian alike. The Bureau of Public Safety, called by John D. Rockefeller as the “Carmack Machine”, struck hard on the criminal civilian population. Carmack’s 6-year “War on Crime” envisioned a United States free of the crime and instability ridden tenures of the past, going as strict as possible on any wrongdoers. With the Hancockian Corps in his pocket, it was common sight for BPS agents or the local Hancockian chapter to chase down people on the streets accused with simple crimes. One heavily publicized case involved a 27-year old man, who was brutally beaten after being apprehended for a property damage charge. Carmack’s “masterplan” faced its major opponents and supporters nationwide. Nativist figures that supported his expulsion of the Argentine immigrants such as Representatives James K. Vardaman and John Temple Graves supported Carmack. Those who sought to combat monopoly and corruption power, which Carmack worked heavily to oppose, supported him, such as Representatives Oscar Underwood and William Sulzer and Senators Henry Cabot Lodge and Joseph W. Bailey. Opposing the BPS were the likes of Senators Eugene Debs, Anselm McLaurin, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., Marion Butler Representatives Theodore Roosevelt and Francis Bellamy, and Governor Henry George Jr.. All would oppose Carmack for their own person reasons but united in their opposition. On October 1903, all mentioned would sign the “Declaration of National Renouncement”, documents declaration their oppose to the BPS’ handling of national crime, and demanded the resignation of Secretary Carmack and multiple others in the bureau. The declaration would fail in removing Carmack, though it succeeding in bringing the issue to the public spotlight.
Secretary Carmack was one of the polarizing people in the Chaffee government
The public became polarized in their opinions of the War on Crime. The Boston Custer Society, one of the largest public players of President Custer’s tenure, opposed the BPS and their operations. The BSC had already been frustrated at President Chaffee’s attempts at dismantling the Custerite Society and sought to keep the structure created by their patron. The Association for Social Co-operation also opposed the BPS, and especially the Hancockian Corps. Jacob Coxey and his followers would raise $12,000 to victims of “BPS brutality”, as well as holding their common rallies against government policies. Many also supported the BPS’ efforts, particularly war veterans who were granted added benefits directly by Carmack’s department, as well finding employment through the Hanockians. Carmack starkly told reporters outside the Capitol that "...all may curse me as they wish, but all men bow before the same divine judgement."
The Hero and the Villain
SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
"PRESIDENT CHAFFEE CELEBRATES THIRD YEAR OF PRESIDENCY IN LOS ANGELES" by Vincent Uba, March 4, 1904.
"Almost 100,000 cheering supporters watched on today as the President rode around San Francisco celebrating his third year in office... Accompanied by Vice President George McClellan, Secretary of State Champ Clark, and Secretary to the President and his son Adna Chaffee Jr., signs were raised bearing the names of the members of his administration... Behind all the cheers and excitement, many in the city— and the wider country, wonder if the President would dare to march on into a second term as his enemies begin scheme their next political action."

President Adna Chaffee was dubbed the “Hero of the Rio de la Plata” during the War of Continental Alliance. Some continue to call him that. Though his enemies call him something very different. Coined by Representative Edward M. House, he dubbed Chaffee the “Ferro-Fiend”, saying he was an iron tyrant. Chaffee’s military background made him unfamiliar with many of the duties of the presidency. This would be used both for and against him. Supporters argued his handling of the country proved he went beyond his lack of knowledge of administration and that he thrived even though he knew little. Critics would claim that Chaffee’s ignorance of the web of governance led him to be weak and surrendered his duties to opportunistic individuals. From an interview, House Speaker John Nance Garner would say “I show my full confidence and supply for the competency of the President and his administration. Based on my own eyes, his capacity to work his duties has been more fruitful than any past administration in my lifetime.
Chaffee remained mainly quiet from the public scene during his tenure, a stark difference from his rambunctious predecessor. His image in the public eye remained as an either benevolent or malicious head honcho, one who’s quiet but one who everyone knows has power. The society that grew during his tenure would be both similar and different from the Custerite Society he promised to reimagine. On one hand, casual public life would remain the same, the economic and social stability and patriotism and understanding between normal civilians would continue and flourish during his tenure. On the other hand, policies such as the axing of institutions, the open shift towards nationalism, and fear used by the likes of the BPS shows very obvious change in society. The cult of personality adhered by fanatics of the old president would not go away, neither didn’t the radicals who called for drastic change. As the issues of the past faded away, new and prevalent issues would rise to take their place. America enters the 20th century its own friend and enemy.
23rd President of the United States of America, Adna Chaffee

This is the second half of my list for Oklahoma's execution roster. As mentioned in the first part, I broke it in half to comply with reddit's character limitations. For the link to part 1, please click here.
The currently executed 124 offenders, cases 63-124:
63. Robert Knighton (~1960s-2003, lethal injection): In 1973, after being released from a 1968 armed robbery conviction, Knighton went on his first major crime spree. He stabbed and strangled several men and women during many robberies and home invasions. The only victim that was killed, 32 year old Coffier Day, was shot dead while Knighton was arguing with him in his home. Coffier's father, 53 year old Claude, was also injured in the shooting. Knighton's first crime spree ended when he kidnapped a married couple and their 6 year old daughter. They escaped when the wife and mother of the family attacked Knighton with a knife to protect her husband and daughter. The family then notified the police of their abduction. Knighton managed to secure a 30 year manslaughter conviction and a 10 year armed robbery conviction with a plea deal, and was released to a halfway house in 1989. There, he began dating a female addict and befriended a teenage boy. The trio embarked on a nationwide robbery spree together. In Missouri, they shot and killed 59 year old Frank Merrifield and his 40 year old stepson Roy Donahue while robbing their home, and stole guns and money from them. In Oklahoma, the trio fatally shot a couple, 64 year old Virginia and 62 year old Richard Denney, while carjacking them. Their rampage ended when a woman in Texas grow suspicious of them circling a neighborhood. Knighton had a long history of theft convictions dating back to his childhood, and joined the Aryan Brotherhood in prison. Behind bars, he frequently attacked black and Native American inmates out of racial hatred for them.
64. Kenneth Charm (1993-2003, lethal injection): Charm and his teenage cousin lured a family friend, 14 year old Brandy Hill, into their car. They raped Hill and tried strangling her with a towel. When that failed, the cousins bludgeoned her to death with a sledgehammer.
65. Lewis Gilbert II (1994-2003, lethal injection): Gilbert and his teenage accomplice committed at least 4 robbery murders in Missouri, Ohio, and Oklahoma, but he was executed for the killing of 37 year old Roxanne Ruddell. They ambushed and kidnapped Ruddell while she was fishing alone. She was robbed of $3 and her truck, tied to a tree, and shot to death. The pair also fatally shot Ruth Loader, a 79 year old Ohioan woman, while abducting her from her residence, and gunned down a Missouri couple, 86 year old William and 76 year old Flossie Brewer, in their home. Gilbert was also sentenced to death for the Brewer murders by the state of Missouri, but was incarcerated in Oklahoma State Penitentiary’s death row.
66. Robert Duckett (~1980s-2003, lethal injection): After breaking out of prison, Duckett was picked up hitchhiking by John Howard, a 53 year old store owner. Howard agreed to let Duckett stay with him until he could find a job. The pair soon had a failing out, and Duckett was evicted by his host. He retaliated by tying Howard up with wire and then beating him to death with a fireplace poker. Duckett made off with his car after he switched the license plates, and took several bank bags from his store. He had a long violent criminal history, which included several incidents of assault and robbery. One of the incidents involved the beating of an 83 year old man. Allegedly, Duckett was previously gang-raped by other inmates, and suffered from PTSD from the incident. His attorneys claimed that Howard’s sexual advances trigged those memories, and he was killed as a result of Duckett lashing out at them. However, the prosecution shot the argument down, citing that the murder happened after Duckett was evicted from the apartment.
67. Bryan Toles (1993-2003, lethal injection): Toles and his two accomplices forced themselves into the home of the Franceschi family, and shot and killed the family patriarch, 39 year old Juan, in a struggle. Juan's son, 15 year old Lonnie, was also murdered "execution style" out of fear that he could identify Toles and his accomplices. The only survivor of the attack was Norma, Juan's wife and Lonnie's mother, who escaped by hiding in her older daughter's bedroom.
68. Jackie Willingham (1994-2003, lethal injection): Willingham was a door to door salesman selling perfume in an office building. One women, 62 year old Jayne Van Wey, he tried to solicit rejected him despite his repeated offers. Angered by her "rude behavior", Willingham attacked Van Wey when they had a chance encounter near the building's restroom. He dragged Van Wey out of a stall after following her inside, slammed her head against the bathroom wall several times, and kicked her head. Reportedly, Van Wey choked to death on her own blood.
69. Harold McElmurry III (1999-2003, lethal injection): While under the influence of meth, McElmurry and his wife Vicki broke into a home that a WW2 veteran, 80 year old Robert Pendley, shared with his wife, 75 year old Rosa. Robert and Rosa were both quickly subdued and physically restrained by the couple. McElmurry clubbed Robert to death with a pipe in front of Rosa, who was forced to watch by Vicki. Vicki then held Rosa down as McElmurry stabbed her several times with scissors. After killing the Pendleys, the McElmurrys fled with $70 in cash, a pair of guns, and the victims' car. A few days after the murders, they were captured by border agents while trying to cross into Mexico.
70. Tyrone Darks (~1990s-2004, lethal injection): Darks rammed his ex wife, 26 year old Sherry Goodlow, off the road as she was driving with their 2 year old son. After Goodlow crashed, Darks pulled their son out of the wreckage, shot her to death, and then drove away with him. Just before she succumbed to her injuries, Goodlow managed to call and notify the police about her son’s abduction. The police confronted and arrested Darks at his home, and they found the boy unharmed in their search. Darks and Goodlow’s former marriage was marred with violence, and he was arrested on numerous occasions for assaulting her. On death row, Darks was involved in a scheme to defraud a foundation for 9/11 survivors.
71. Norman Cleary (~1980s-2004, lethal injection): While burglarizing an upper class home with an accomplice, Cleary shot and killed a housekeeper, 44 year old Wanda Neafus, and took her purse and a cane that her employers purchased from the Smithsonian Institution. Cleary had a long criminal history and was previously convicted of beating an 87 year old woman in her home.
72. David Brown (~1983-2004, lethal injection): For several years, Brown violently harassed his ex wife and her family. In one incident, Brown abducted his ex wife and 11 of her customers from a beauty saloon she owned, and held them hostage until he surrendered to police. He was able to leave custody on bond and went into hiding. A few years after the hostage crisis incident, Brown broke into his ex wife's family home and gunned down her father, 47 year old Eldon McGuire.
73. Hung Thanh Le (1992-2004, lethal injection): Le crept into the apartment of another Vietnamese refugee, 34 year old Hai Nguyen, and found him watching TV on the couch. He struck Nguyen from behind with a weightlifting bar, and continued stabbing him with a meat cleaver when he screamed his wife for help. Nguyen's wife phoned the police, and Le fled with the couple's safety deposit box that contained $36,000 and their wedding ring.

According to court documents, Slaughter mutilated both of their bodies, and he carved an "R" on Melody's stomach. He tried pinning the murders on a black man, but the investigators and the courts dismissed his allegations.
77. George Miller Jr. (1994-2005, lethal injection): During the robbery of a hotel, Miller attacked the auditor, 25 year old Kent Dodd, with a hedge shear and paint cans, and took $122 from the register. Dodd was severely beaten, had muriatic acid shoved down his throat, and was left to die. Just before he died of his injuries, Dodd gave a description of his attacker to the police that matched Miller. A massive amount of circumstantial evidence, such as wearing shoes that resembled the bloodstained footprints next to Dodd's body, a microscopic drop of blood found on his shoes that was tentatively linked to Dodd, his wife's testimony of his unaccounted absence from their home during the murder, and what appeared to be Dodd writing Miller's alias that he knew him by in his own blood, convicted him. Miller’s friends also reported that he was broke and begging them for money a day before the murder, and his wife mentioned him giving her the same amount of money that was stolen from the robbery a day after it happened.
78. Michael Pennington (1991-2005, lethal injection): Pennington shot and killed a clerk, 20 year old Bradley Grooms, while trying to rob a 7-eleven grocery store. He left empty handed when the register failed to open.

He also gunned down Anita's two children, 22 year old Tina Pennington and 13 year old Martise.
80. Richard Thornburg Jr. (1996-2006, lethal injection): A month after he was shot by an unknown assailant, Thornburg and his accomplices sought revenge by abducting 5 men that he thought was responsible from a trailer. Three of the hostages, 51 year old James Poteet, 39 year old Tery Sheppard, and 24 year old Kieth Smith, were gunned down on the spot, and Thornberg forced the fourth to shoot the fifth with the threat of killing him if he didn’t comply. They then burned down the trailer with the wounded fifth victim still trapped inside, but he managed to escape with his life. Despite being forced to put all the blame on himself in exchange for being spared, the fourth hostage still went forward to the police.
81. John Boltz (1984-2006, lethal injection): To spite his estranged wife following an argument, Boltz attacked her son, 23 year old Doug Kirby, with a knife. Kirby was stabbed a total of 11 times, and he received several fatal wounds to his chest, stomach, and neck.
82. Eric Patton (1994-2006, lethal injection): Patton forced his way into the home of 56 year old Charlene Kauer after she refused his pleading for money. After dragging her around the house as he searched for valuables, Patton stabbed Kauer several times with many different blades objects at hand such as scissors, barbecue forks, and kitchen knifes. Although he confessed to the murder, Patton blamed it on alleged demonic possession and his cocaine addiction.
83. James Malicoat (1997-2006, lethal injection): Malicoat slammed Tessa Leadford, his 13 month old daughter, against a dresser. After she died from the beating, he tucked her into bed, and waited until his daughter's mother returned from work to take her to the hospital. The doctors found that Leadford had been dead for several hours at the time of her arrival, and discovered several injuries such as broken ribs, bite marks, abdominal bleeding, and facial bruising on her body. Although both murders went unsolved for several years, Welch abducted and raped a woman in 1994, and he received a 45 year sentence for it. His DNA samples was collected and filed after his abduction conviction, and linked to both Cooper and Stevens’ murders in a 1997 test.
87. Terry Short (1995-2008, lethal injection): In an attempt to kill his ex girlfriend, Short blew up her apartment complex with a firebomb. 90. Donald Gilson (1995-2009, lethal injection): Gilson routinely physically abused his live in girlfriend's 5 children (who were all between the ages of 8 and 12 years old). The youngest, 8 year old Shane Coffman, was beaten to death with a board for defecating on the living room carpet. He and his girlfriend then hid the body by stuffing it in a freezer. The body was kept inside it for 6 months until it was discovered by a sheriff's deputy investigating the family's abuse allegations. Gilson's girlfriend was spared the death penalty with a plea deal, and given a life sentence without the possibility of parole for her part in her son's abuse and murder.

94. John Duty (~1970s-2010, lethal injection): Duty was given a life sentence for abducting, raping, and non fatally shooting a female store clerk during a robbery. While incarcerated, he tricked a fellow inmate, 22 year old Curtis Wise Jr. into allowing himself to be tied up as a part of a hostage ruse, and then strangled him to death with shoelaces. At the time of his murder, Wise was serving a conviction for burglary and contributing to the delinquency of minors. Duty's execution caused some controversy for the use of pentobarbital, a drug more commonly utilized by veterinarians to euthanize pets.

101. Garry Allen (1986-2012, lethal injection): Allen shot and killed his fiancee, 24 year old Lawanna Titsworth, during an argument at a day care she worked at. He fought with the responding officers trying to arrest him in an attempt to provoke a "suicide by cop" outcome. Despite the officers' best efforts to avoid harming him, Allen lost his eye from an accidental discharge. Due to claims of him having schizophrenia, Allen's execution was a source of controversy.
102. George Ochoa (~1993-2012, lethal injection): A Southside Locos gang member, Ochoa and another hoodlum shot and killed a couple, 38 year old Francisco Morales and 35 year old Maria Yanez, while burglarizing their home. She was then strangled and stabbed to death. He fled to Missouri, fatally stabbed 24 year old Forrest Boyd while carjacking him, and used his car to hide out in Tennessee. After the stolen car broke down, Thacker called a tow truck to pick him up. When the driver, 52 year old Ray Patterson, found that he was using a stolen credit card, Thacker stabbed him to death as well. As a teenager, Thacker committed several acts of auto thefts and burglaries. He also engaged in inappropriate relationships with underaged girls, and was released from a Florida prison after serving time for a bad check conviction months before his murders.
104. James DeRosa (2000-2013, lethal injection): DeRosa and his accomplice tricked a couple, 73 year old Curtis and 70 year old Gloria Plummer, that he worked for on their ranch, into letting them inside their house. Sanford dropped by the couple's residence after failing to find her daughter and granddaughter. At her arrival, she was raped, beaten, and stabbed to death by Davis. He then left the body in the house, drove off with Sanford’s van, and injured himself in a car accident. As Davis was high while driving, he was arrested for being under the influence. The detaining officers weren’t aware of the murder until Davis’ girlfriend returned to the home later that night, and called 911 after finding her mother’s corpse.
106. Anthony Banks (~1978-2013, lethal injection): In 1978, while robbing a grocery store, Banks shot and killed a clerk, 22 year old David Fremin. A year later, he abducted Sun Travis, a 24 year old South Korean immigrant, from a parking lot. He then sexually assaulted Travis in his car and shot her in the head. Although he was captured and convicted for Fremin's murder, Travis' killing went unsolved until a 1997 DNA test. Banks was originally sentenced to death for Fremin's murder, but it was lifted in favor of a life sentence. He was condemned for a second time after his conviction for Travis' murder.
107. Ronald Lott (~1980s-2013, lethal injection): A sexual predator of elderly women, Lott broke into the homes of 93 year old Zelma Cutler and 83 year old Anna Fowler after cutting off their power. They were tied up with cloth, anally penetrated, beaten, and suffocated to death with pillowcases. The case attracted controversy when another man was erroneously condemned for the murders, and he spent 11 years on death row until a 1997 DNA test linked the murders to Lott. At the time of the discovery, Lott was serving time for two rape convictions.
108. Johnny Black (~1984-2013, lethal injection): Black, two of his brothers, and two other men went looking for a man they feuded with for a fight. While they were crusing on the road, the group encountered a rancher, 54 year old Bill Pogue, and mistook him for their target due to them driving similar vehicles. They forced Poque off the road, pulled him out of his car, and stabbed him a total of 10 times. Pogue's son in law was also dragged out and attacked, but he managed to escape with his life. Black was previously convicted of manslaughter for shooting 49 year old Cecil Martin dead in an argument.
109. Michael Wilson (1995-2014, lethal injection): Wilson was the third participant in the above mentioned beating death of Richard Yost to be executed.
110. Kenneth Hogan (1988-2014, lethal injection): Hogan stabbed 21 year old Lisa Stanley to death while she was babysitting his children. According to autopsy reports, she was stabbed at least 25 times. Stanley had previously accused him of sexual misconduct, and prosecutors believed that she was killed during an argument over the allegations.
111. Clayton Lockett (~1992-2014, lethal injection): Lockett, his cousin, and another accomplice kidnapped 23 year old Bobby Bornt, 18 year old Summer Hair, and Bornt's 9 month son after burglarizing a home. After tying them up with duct tape, they forced their captives to lure a friend, 19 year old Stephanie Neiman, with a phone call. Neiman was also bound and initially survived getting shot multiple times. Out of frustration, Lockett buried her alive, and she succumbed to a combination of suffocation and her injuries. Lockett and his accomplices also gang-raped Hair and beat Bornt, but spared them on the forced condition of their silence. His execution was controversial, as Lockett convulsed for 45 minutes after being injected, and then died from a heart attack. He also had a long criminal history, and was first arrested for burglary as a teenager.
112. Charles Warner (1997-2015, lethal injection): Warner raped his girlfriend's daughter, 11 month old Adriana Waller, and shook her to death. His execution sparked outcry, as the wrong fatal drug was administered by mistake, and Warner complained of "burning pain" as he was being injected. With the botched executions of Lockett and Warner back to back, the state of Oklahoma delayed further executions until 2021.
113. John Grant (~1970s-2021, lethal injection): While serving a 130 year sentence for armed robbery, Grant stabbed a prison cafeteria worker, 58 year old Gay Carter, to death. He had a long criminal history dating back to the ag e of 11, had several previous convictions of theft and armed robbery, and frequently fought with and assaulted other inmates behind bars. Due to reports of "adverse reactions" to the lethal drugs, Grant's execution was scrutinized by a number of national media outlets.
114. Bigler Stouffer II (1985-2021, lethal injection): Stouffer shot and killed his ex girlfriend, 35 year old Linda Reaves, in her boyfriend's home for breaking up with him. Reaves' boyfriend was also seriously injured in the shooting.
115. Donald Grant (2001-2022, lethal injection): During a robbery of a hotel, Grant fatally shot, stabbed, and bludgeoned two employees, 43 year old Felicia Smith and 29 year old Brenda McElyea, and ran off with $1,500. He spent $200 of the stolen on paying for his girlfriend's bail.
116. Gilbert Postelle (~1998-2022, lethal injection): Postelle’s father was badly injured in a motorcycle accident, and they suspected that 57 year old James Anderson, 56 year old Terry Smith, 49 year old Donnie Swindler, and 26 year old Amy Wright were deliberately involved. Out a desire for vengeance, he recruited Postelle, his other son, and another man to kill them. All four victims were fatally gunned down in what was described as a “blitz attack” on their trailer. He was an addict and had several arrests for drug possession and manufacturing dating back to the age of 12.
117. James Coddington (1997-2022, lethal injection): After robbing a grocery store, Coddington went to the home of a friend and co worker, 73 year old Albert Hale, to ask for money. When Hale turned him down, Coddington retaliated by beating him with a claw hammer. Coddington stole $525 and went on to rob 5 more grocery stores. Hale was left alone with his injures for nearly an entire day until he was discovered by his son, and died in the hospital a day later.
118. Benjamin Cole Sr. (2002-2022, lethal injection): Out of anger that her crying interrupted his Nintendo game, Cole beat his daughter from his second wife, 9 month old Brianna, to death. He was previously convicted of abusing his son from a different marriage in California.
119. Richard Fairchild (1996-2023, lethal injection): Fairchild got into a fight with his girlfriend’s 17 year old daughter after making drunken sexual passes at her, and was enraged that she left with a cab driver. He took his anger out on the girl’s younger brother, 3 year old Adam Broomhall, and scalded him with a wall heater. He then repeatedly hit the boy, threw him against a table, and fatally hemorrhaged his head. Bromhall received over 26 blows during the beating.
120. Scott Eizember (2003-2023, lethal injection): Eizember snuck into his ex girlfriend's house to lie in wait for her. However, her roommates, 76 year old A.J. Cantrell and his 70 year old wife Patsy, arrived home earlier then she did. He shot and beat them both to death and then fled the scene.
121. Jemaine Cannon (1995-2023, lethal injection): Cannon was put in prison for assaulting an unidentified woman. He managed to escape and stabbed his girlfriend, 20 year old Sharonda Clark, to death in her apartment.
122. Anthony Sanchez (1996-2023, lethal injection): Sanchez kidnapped 21 year old Jewell Busken from her apartment complex, and then raped and shot her to death. He amassed a following from the anti death penalty movement for claiming that his father was responsible, but such notions were debunked following a 2023 DNA test that concluded Sanchez’s guilt.
123. Phillip Hancock (~1982-2023, lethal injection): In 1982, Hancock shot a drug dealer, 27 year old Charles Warren, dead in a dispute over stolen jewelry and was given a manslaughter conviction for it. He was released after serving a 2 year term. About 17 years later, he shot and killed 58 year old James Lynch III and 37 year old Robert Jett Jr. in a drug house. Despite an eyewitness account describing Lynch and Jett begging for their lives, the case attracted scrutiny when Hancock's attorneys claimed that the shootings were done in self defense.
124. Michael Smith (~2002-2024, lethal injection): A member of the Oak Grove Posse gang, Smith was responsible for two separate fatal shootings on the same day. In one of his murders, he killed Sharath Pulluru, a 24 year old Indian immigrant that worked as a clerk, while robbing a gas station. The other murder occurred when he tried to confront a gang member that he thought was a police informant in his apartment, and gunned down the target’s mother, 40 year old Janet Miller-Moore, when she refused to give away her son’s location. Smith was also given a life sentence for delivering a gun to a shooter that carried out another gang killing.

Sad ending 2011 328i cabriolet
Just wanted to share a story of a 2011 convertible. I had purchased it cpo with very low mileage. Only used it during the better months in the north east. Never during the winter. Well maintained. Brand new tires ( existing were over 7 years old) new battery, all gaskets changed, struts and shocks etc. 65k miles on the od. Sold it to Carvana around the pandemic and got top dollar. I think they paid me 13k. This was on April 20. 2021. They came to pick it up on the same day my new 21 x3 was delivered to my house ( purchased from a bmw dealer) right before the parts shortages and hike in prices. Sold and bought a car without leaving my house. That was awesome and convenient. I tracked my old convertible and saw that Carvana sold it for 19k within the week. I couldn’t believe it. Fast forward less than 5 months. Not even 900 miles added to the car. It met its’ demise. Totaled and sold at a copart auction on 10/11/21. They even tinted the windows. I know. Who tints windows on a convertible? …lol pics below is when Carvana picked it up. Then the aftermath. The metal folding convertible top destroyed.

2024.05.13 01:50 Beginning-Yogurt3146 What are some fun things to do in East Tennessee, indoor and outdoor?

I'm in tennessee to see my dad and haven't made a list of stuff to do on the weekends. If the weekends are rainy then indoor stuff would be awesome. I know there's Dollywood and Pigeon Forge and Bristol Motor Speedway but what other fun things are there for the weekends?

2024.05.12 23:37 MajorPhoto2159 If Realignment Mimicked the NFL Structure

Introduction

Disclaimer:

I want to clarify that this is a purely hypothetical scenario for a college football realignment, inspired by NFL structures. Although the current trend might seem to lean towards major shifts, this project is just for fun and born out of curiosity. It features 32 teams, organized into two conferences with four divisions each. The grouping is based on geographical proximity and existing rivalries as much as possible.

Methodology

I initially developed a detailed ranking system based on several criteria, but for simplicity, I adopted a pre-existing model that evaluates teams based on:
The data is sourced from 2022, and you can check out the article here.

Power 32 Division Alignment

Division 1: East

Group Teams
Northeast Penn State, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky
Southeast Georgia, Florida, Clemson, South Carolina
Great Lakes Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Michigan State
Gulf Coast Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State

Division 2: West

Group Teams
Southwest Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State
Midwest Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Arkansas
Pacific Southern Cal, UCLA, Oregon, Washington
Atlantic Coast Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Mississippi

Power 64 Division Alignment

Division 1: East

Group Teams
Northeast Rutgers, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Maryland
Southeast Atlantic North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Louisville
South Georgia Tech, UCF, Indiana, Purdue
Midwest Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State

Division 2: West

Group Teams
Pacific Stanford, California, Washington State, Oregon State
Southwest Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado
Texas Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, BYU
Northern Central Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois, Boise State
Some groupings might seem unconventional, but they were fun to explore. I'm curious about your thoughts and any tweaks you might suggest. What matchups would you be excited about in these proposed divisions?

2024.05.12 17:38 Internal-Win-333 Puerto Rico Report & Parking Hack

The wife and I visited Puerto Rico last week and I managed to sneak in three short sessions at the crap tables. The short version is that I managed to come out with a net $1,325 gain, hopefully ending my long 6 month losing streak, but that’s another story.
Our tour book informed us that by law, all casinos are closely associated with hotels. I’ll explain how that is significant.
Tuesday was a washout with torrential rain in the afternoon, so we decided to explore a few of the San Jose casinos using our rented car. First up was Foxwoods which is right next to the airport. When we drove up to the property, there was a sign directing us to a casino players parking lot. Didn’t expect this and a nice surprise. It’s a tiny lot, but plenty of room on a Tuesday. The casino had one very long crap table that probably has room for 10 or even 12 players per side for a total of 20 or more. Unfortunately, the table wasn’t open. When I asked the pit boss about it, he said they’d recently moved the table from one end of the pit to the other and were still installing the cameras. Craps info: $10 min, ATS 175x All, 34x Small, 30x Tall.
On the way out, we asked the security guy by the door how to pay our parking ticket. His reply, “Take it to the Player Reward Desk over there and they’ll validate it for free parking.” Really? Sure enough, we got it validated, no questions asked, even though we hadn’t bet a dollar. Fed the ticket into the machine at the gate and we were off again.
After a short drive, the next stop was the Marriot Resort and Stellaris Casino. We pulled up the hotel lobby main entrance and told the attendant we were there for the casino. He told us they had both valet and self parking available. Valet parking came with a fee, but self parking was free with validation. I’m already feeling like a winner by discovering free parking at the hotel/casinos. We parked, found our way to the casino and the lone crap table only to find it empty and unmanned. The pit boss apologized for not having a crew. A blackjack dealer standing next to us recommended to hit La Concha just a short walk away because they always have a crap game going. Because the rain had now become monsoon force, we chose to get back in the car and drive.
With a little google magic we soon discovered that La Concha hotel and Casino del Mar were the same property. This was another little piece of good luck as Casino del Mar was one place I planned to visit after reading about it on this sub such as this thread: https://www.reddit.com/Craps/comments/17jfh93/craps_in_puerto_rico/ . They’re still at $5 min.
I play 3 point molly with occasional 6/8 place, bought in for $400 and decided to start with 10+20 odds (they allow 3/4/5x odds). The first two shooters sucked with point, come, come, 7. The dice came to me, and I held them for about 30 minutes. I pressed my initial $10 bets up to $30 odds, and from there pressed my pass and come bets in $5 increments all with triple odds. My last bet was an 8 come for 25+75 before finishing my roll with about $900 profit. I stuck around for a couple more shooters and colored in +$750. I was able to get back to Casino del Mar on Friday and ended up -$25.
We were staying at Margaritaville which is about a 40 minute drive east of San Juan. That evening after dinner at the hotel, I hit their tiny casino with the smallest crap table I’d ever seen. It could fit 4 people on each side, depending on the size of the players. The table had a 2 person crew, one dealing both sides and a stick plus a third on break, no box man but one or two pit bossed hoovered nearby. $10 min and $200 max. That max will limit higher stakes players or when a very hot shooter shows up. No ATS or hop bets. I managed to finish the session +$600 after a $28 dealer tip. I almost always tip, win, lose or draw. The Margaritaville crap table is only open Friday and Saturday and the table opened about 6 pm on Friday.
Recap: Street parking in San Juan is a nightmare. There are a few public parking garages depending on your destination. For gamblers, most of the casinos don’t have parking, but their associated hotels do and it’s free with validation at the player rewards desks. Valet parking is available for a fee.
I finished the week +$1,325 at the tables.
