How to approach a possible an hourly raise?

2024.05.14 06:08 aksu9000 How to approach a possible an hourly raise?

Background:
  1. Mech Engi, but engi department is so short staffed that we do Manufacturing Process Engineering, QA/QC, R&D, RMA, machine support/shop fixes, & Project Engineer positions.
  2. Company's starting hourly wage is not competitive @ 25/hr. Thus, high turn over rate.
  3. I have been working for a year, and company is already 2 months late on a company wide raise for all.
  4. I know historically, the first year, new grads like me get a 5/hr bump.
  5. However, I am being laterally (while under same title) moved to a different position that gets commission (1% of custom projects with a cap of 100k, per company policy).
  6. I KNOW for a fact that this company will say something along the lines that "since there is now commission, that is considered your 'raise' ".
  7. I also know that on Indeed, the newest offers for this Manufacturing Engineer 1 position is 28-32/hr.
Essentially, if they do even bump me to 28/hr without moving me, I am NOT getting a raise if new hires get 28/hr. Therefore, my bump needs to exceed 28/hr.
So the question is, am I asking too much? As in, ask for at least 28/hr + commission? I also understand that typical commission based salary is usually lower, but that doesn't reflect the fact that I have already been there 1 year expecting the +5/hr bump.

Some extras:
  1. I have access to an excel spreadsheet that shows turn over rates of all engineers. Somewhere around 2008-2010, the company mentality changed from having career engineers staying at company for 5-20 years to newer grads like me that bounce 6mo-1.5 yr.
  2. Company mentality would rather let someone go at X/hr then hire someone at X+Y/hr.
  3. I have MSME.
  4. Location Fullerton.
Edit 1:
  1. I also know how much this company up-charges b/c engineering department. I know they can afford the raise.
Edit 2:
  1. Company prioritizes hiring more sales and marketing over engineering because they can fill open vacancies within 1-2 weeks where engineering takes months.
    1. 9 engineers (4 normal, 2 supervisor, 2 shop, 1 manager).
    2. 2 dedicated R&D engineers.
    3. 1 dedicated electrical engineer.
    4. 16 sales (10 normal, 4 wfh, 1 supervisor, 1 manager).
    5. 10 marketing (8 normal, 1 general manager, 1 manager)
Edit 3:
  1. Marketing can push new products and other photoshopped ideas to engineering before testing and tell us it has been sold, so engineering needs to think of a way to make it reality.
  2. Sales can also sell some custom products which marketing likes and that becomes new products (with no testing).
  3. Prototypes & ecr's being all bundled into a custom product to be already sold to client then labeled as 1 work order.
  4. Company also does not use PDM. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Exeter City Season 7: 3 Pressing Questions as Exeter Prepare for Season 2 in the Premier Leauge
After Exeter City secured safety in their first-ever Premier League season, with four matches remaining, the fans' hearts, and the backroom staff's minds, all turned toward the upcoming season. Exeter's season was marked by thrilling highs (a 6-1 thrashing of West Ham, a convincing victory over Tottenham) and shocking lows (a 1-6 loss to LUTON TOWN of all teams, a pasting 1-5 by an ascendant Arsenal), but manager Andy Maher remained steady at the controls.
With the summer 2029 transfer window slammed shut and the new-look teams having played a few matches, we run the rule over the teams in the 2029-2030 Premier League. Up today, the south coast side Exeter City, the only fan-owned team in the Premier League. With the Supporter's Trust helping contribute to financial operations and the canny Julian Tagg still directing the football side of things, Exeter look to consolidate their precarious position and craft a long-term place in the top flight.
Exeter finished their season in a commendable 13th place, with an impressive attacking line that was able, sometimes, to overcome the worst defense outside of the relegation zone. Known usually for a solid backline, Exeter's players were generally exposed by the pace and attacking verve of the Premier League. Only Sonny Cox and the rest of the attack, who posted the league's 8th best scoring record, kept Exeter afloat.

Cox, in partnership with assists co-leader Idrissa Camara, led the Premier League with a stunning 27 goal tally in 38 appearances, topping Chelsea's Nkunku by 3 goals.
As Exeter turn to the new season, we ask three pressing questions of the team and examine the answers to find out if Exeter can repeat the trick, or if their security in the top flight is merely an illusion.
Question 1: Will the defense improve?
Whether down to tactics or formation, or players themselves, Exeter's defense in the 2028-29 season was lacklustre at best. Many point to the relatively thrifty spend in 2028-29, with only Jordan Storey and Etienne Kinkoue coming through the door to bolster the ranks last season.
This season looks already off to a different start. While Exeter continue to parsimoniously clutch the purse strings, they sold some excess players and finally made a significant, record-smashing, splash in the transfer pool, this time bolstering the backline.
Exeter splashed £22.5m to sign Czech Republic international star Martin Vitik away from Salernita, who escaped relegation by just a few points in Serie A. Able to offer improved wages and a competitive environment, Exeter had clearly committed to improving the defense here.
https://preview.redd.it/h7kuk06rfa0d1.png?width=624&format=png&auto=webp&s=6404ef1fdc28f0f63a70fec072fd675b08da639b
"We saw a number of transfers out early in this window, where players had not quite fit in, or even where we decided, as much as we wanted to keep the man, we needed to fund improvements across the squad," said Tagg. "Last year we saw a net spend for the first time ever, and while we are very far from the spending limits imposed by the EFL, we need to make sure we balance the books. So this was a very involved, drawn out, patient process that we were only able to conclude in late August."
In keeping with Exeter's thrifty ways, they added another option to the midfield as well. "We really felt that if we could possess the ball better, maybe use David's skill set to break up plays more, and add another player there, we might see improvements across the whole defense," said Maher in an interview. "So we managed to convince Mateusz that we were the best option for him."
https://preview.redd.it/42qm1upufa0d1.png?width=621&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa1023b98c02609d700604365462115fed2e8a45
With Kowalczyk now roving the middle of the pitch, Exeter truly have competition at the central midfield position, and have the flexibility to move some of their talented pieces around the board. "Mateusz really freed up and gave us some interesting lineup choices, and you saw that in some of these early matches where we came out and surprised people," said Maher.
The new look for Exeter's base 4-2-3-1 looks like this, with Kowalczyk pushing forward into a CAM role, while Camara plays just slightly forward of Watson, who remains in a true defensive midfielder role. Hlynsson moves wide to the left, while Clark has the right touchline to himself. The new partnership of Storey and Vitik protects the center, while young starlet Maguire has impressed at right back, and former Exeter Academy man Ben Chrisene slots into the left wingback position.
Time will tell, but early results are promising. A rocky 3-2 win over Brighton was followed with a much more competent series of performances. Pundits are optimistic that Exeter can improve last season's defensive performance, and fans can only hope that the starting line avoids serious injury.
Question 2: Can Exeter keep their stars?
A smashing season from Cox, the silky smooth midfielder Camara, wide man Bobby Clark, the revelation of young fullback Rory Maguire-- these are the main men around whom Exeter has built its team. With Cox and Camara both having played with the squad since their League One days, there's an intuitive chemistry and connection built over hundred and thousands of hours on the training ground. Meanwhile. Clark has impressed on the wing, as the former central midfielder enjoys the space to threaten opposing fullbacks with his craft.
"We had one major bid for Sonny [Cox]," revealed Tagg recently, "but it was miles still from our valuation, and this is about more than just money anyway; Sonny has told us he will stay with us as long as he can, as long as our trajectory for success matches his. We go where Sonny takes us." The bid, which remains undisclosed, was regarded by some as an attempt to pry away a future world-class leader, at a cut-rate price. One indignant fan noted, "Just because we're Exeter and a small club doesn't mean they can offer rubbish fees." With goal scoring on par with elite teams like Chelsea, some were surprised by the rumors of the fee offer. Still, a handful of commentators, looking at Exeter's profit margins and football operations, noted that Exeter take a risk in declining a major fee--even a low offer. "£40, 50, 60 million? That would be huge for Exeter to take in, and then to reinvest across multiple positions of the squad," one said.
"What good is that reinvestment if you can't score in the Prem," replied Gibbons in her analysis of Exeter's roster. "Cox proved last season he could score here, that's invaluable to the team. We've seen too many failed major purchases-- even Exeter signed a player who was a bust at this level."
Exeter did lose a handful of significant players in the transfer window. Published estimates from football bloggers show that Exeter currently enjoy a small profit on sales, although this is subject to official confirmation.
Much of Exeter's reputed profit came from three sales. Moving on from failed striker Erik Botheim, Exeter unload the player and his contract to Bristol City for £9.9m. Kinkoue, who never really broke through into the first team with any consistency, accepted terms with Middlesbrough.
But the shock move was relegated Crystal Palace, desperate to shore up its bid for immediate promotion, buying Ngoma for £17.1m. The promising American winger showed great potential last season and was 2nd in assists for Exeter. His touch and crossing acumen helped Exeter through a challenging spring season and some thing that his departure is a significant dent in Exeter's futures.
https://preview.redd.it/u3dtrri3ga0d1.png?width=1256&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ade1c2f9d7f11b2f808252150e630f9fb2791dd
Ultimately, Exeter made few moves to bring in players, counting on a smaller number of hopefully shrewd choices to lead the way. As Gibbons notes, "There was some roster bloat last season; even with many players out on loan, Exeter carried more players than they could really find time for. This was a smart offseason to make a profit on academy graduates, while still identifying the core players who will help the team.
The season looks promising, with star man Cox already notching 4 goals in 6 appearances, while Camara and Clark both have tallied 2 goals and 1 assist each.
Gyokeres hasn't lost much of step, with 2 assists and a goal to his name.
Meanwhile, young star in the making Rory Maguire continues his run of excellent form. The young fullback had a bad day at the Carabao Cup, but has put in stellar shifts in the Premier League, and is quickly becoming one of Exeter's top choices in the back line. With his work, Exeter already have two clean sheets in the league.
https://preview.redd.it/h3drn3b6ga0d1.png?width=625&format=png&auto=webp&s=bef145182381d710da2ac09c87b4f4f16df2084d
A new star is rising in the defense also, with another academy product impressing in duty. Sebastian Benson, another 20-year-old defender, has been earning minutes in the starting XI and as one of the first off the bench. The centre-back is explosive in short areas and a dominating aerial talent to win headers away from even the fiercest attackers.
https://preview.redd.it/xgmf1mrdga0d1.png?width=830&format=png&auto=webp&s=6516c3628a14539f245f6611c130e5bc3aed8936
Question 3: What tactics will Exeter adopt to maximize their players?
With Gyokeres and Cox both on the field, Exeter found themselves in a surprising bind: The two forwards would either force Exeter into something like a 4-4-2, and thus push either defensive midfielder Medon Berisha or attacking midfielder Kristian Hlynsson to the substitute's bench, OR, Exeter could drop into a 5-man back line, and sacrifice the talented winger Bobby Clark to the exigencies of the formation.
Exeter usually chose the 4-4-2, and the gamble SOMETIMES worked in Exeter's favor. Analyst Beth Gibbons explains: "When Gyokeres is on the pitch with Cox, this is a dangerous and pacey attack. Gyokeres has proven adept at both holdup play where he links Cox to the midfield, and at running onto balls from the wings or from Camara, who's incredibly talented as a passer. But if Camara and [midfielder David] Watson get forward, there's nothing in front of that back four to protect against the counter, and Exeter were exposed frequently there.
But if Watson stays back to shield that line, or if Maguire doesn't track forward, Exeter were too one-dimensional, and really strong defenses absolutely stymied the attack.
Exeter have adopted a more flexible approach this year, including a surprise 5-4-1 that absolutely gobsmacked Manchester City in the early running this season.
Gibbons on the new look: "This was a real surprise, as it put Camara deeper than usual. But it was incredibly effective as it provided two defenders to cover Haaland, and freed the wing backs to come inside to help against the centre-mids, or to cover those wide wingers. Maguire's work against Foden was absolutely stellar, as he stymied the England international all match."
The lineup for the shock win over Man City
Exeter put on a defensive clinic against the champions, winning 2-0 in style, with a Cox brace to lead the team. Camara was incisive as usual, but the real hero was Watson in the middle to cut off the Manchester transition, and Maguire wide, who posted 6 successful tackles against Foden and won almost every battle on that side.
Exeter shifted onto the attack for its match against Brighton and revealed a swashbuckling 4-3-3 with a fascinating double-pivot in the midfield. "The one defensive midfielder was often over-run," said Maher in a podcast interview after the match. "So we took the usual midfield triangle and inverted it, giving us two men to break up attacks. Idrissa's so good at launching after an interception or a tackle, so we let him sit deep and orchestrate, but he has free roam of that side of the pitch, to work into space more or push forward. So he and Matty [Kowalczyk] act almost like 2 attacking mids when we had the ball, but then he comes back to defense really quickly."
Wide, Gyokeres and Clark pushed up field and menaced the fullbacks. Brighton struggled with this positioning and gave up goals to both of the wide men, while Cox facilitated with an assist and a number of key passes.
The positional flexibility has been impressive from the Grecians, and Exeter now sit 5th in the table after six matches. The most impressive stretch has come in September, with matches against Manchester City, Tottenham, and Arsenal. Most fans would have been ecstatic to come away with one draw in those 3 matches, and maybe add one point to the total from those three. Instead, Exeter took points in every one of the matches, including the clean sheets against Manchester City and Arsenal.
Recent Results
"If you told us, draws against two teams there, any fan would have taken it, right?" said Maher in the post-game press conference after the Arsenal match. "A clean sheet against Arsenal? Absolutely, you take that. But the fans have been excellent in their support, and the lads stepped up and executed against Manchester, and all of a sudden, they have this confidence to go out like they did. We fell behind against Tottenham but got the 82nd-minute equalizer because they never quit, they feel like they can go against any team."
With the 5-game unbeaten streak, Exeter have laid down a marker that they wager they'll improve on last season's finish, and they're a danger to take points from any of the usual Big Six. "We're not scared," said Idrissa Camara. "We're hungry. Everyone else should be scared."
The Verdict:
Exeter look to have improved the defense and kept the most important cogs in the attack, although there are rumors that some elite Champions League sides are eying up winger Clark. The lineups will be a man-management challenge for the coaching staff, as there are simply a few too many great midfielders to balance out--someone has to drop to the substitute's bench. If Maher and the staff can manage playing time and player expectations, this will be an exciting team to watch this season. Our prediction: 10th place.

Full ruleset can be found here. Sheet 1 details general rules and principles; subsequent sheets track transfers and finances.
Finances are paramount for a small club. The first season in the Prem, we operated with a net spend in the transfer window, to bring in important players that bolster the squad. Last season was the first season (out of 6) to see this spending. Maybe I'll do a finances post soon because I find that stuff fascinating.
Randomizer for transfers; transfer targets are limited to +1 over position average, with 1 player per year allowed to be significantly beyond that. This season, we targeted a CB to improve the defense and lucked into the signing of Vitik. He was actually our 3rd choice-- there was a top-notch free agent but we lost him to Chelsea and thus we had to wait for some player sales before we could afford a move.
For transferring players at or below the team average, I use a very simple weighted randomizer that's built into my google sheets. For the players that are +2 or more beyond the team average, I use https://5ungc6-joseph-boyd.shinyapps.io/FifaDiceRoll/ crafted by another excellent member of this subreddit. It changes the probability of signings depending on how far above the average your intended signing is.
If you read this far, you're fabulous, good-looking, and intellectually gifted. Happy gaming!

2024.05.14 02:41 Pyroski The Midterms of 1848 and 1849 Pine & Liberty

The Midterms of 1848 and 1849 Pine & Liberty
In the final months of Daniel Webster's term, the economy, still reeling from the War of 1839 and the subsequent Panic of 1843, began a slow but steady recovery. William Lloyd Garrison, the incoming President who shattered the Federalists' grip on power, stepped into office with a bold agenda aimed at bolstering the economic upturn and lifting the nation's spirits. His initial flurry of legislative efforts included a proposed second bill of rights to prevent a repeat of the Sedition Acts, as well as measures to curb speech, the introduction of an equal rights and poll tax amendment, the reduction of the National Bank's influence, which Garrison branded as "corrupt" and "flawed," in favor of greater state control, and the full nationalization of the road industry. Congress has rejected every one of these, however, Garrison has managed to push through some reforms, such as removing Nathan Appleton as the bank's president in 1848, granting states more authority over monetary policies, the nonrenewal of the sedition acts, the District of Maine region's autonomy, imposing national limits on alcohol sales, and ban of the purchase of quantities over 16, and the ending of U.S. cooperation in the deportation of fugitives. However, widespread American fatigue over aggressive slavery policies, coupled with an indifferent Martin Van Buren administration, terms of the Treaty of Brussels, and interest in the settlement of new territories in the northwest, resulted in minimal diplomatic opposition to Garrison's fugitive policy.
Despite minor economic hiccups, trade has largely returned to its pre-war status as industries have stabilized. This was partly due to then-President Nathan Appleton raising interest rates in response to Garrison's funding cuts and minor currency instability resulting from the sudden influx of state control. Furthermore, despite Garrison's efforts to establish further independence from the increasingly close British empire by expanding trade with Haiti, Mexico, France, and the Netherlands, foreign investments, particularly by the British, in railroads and other industries continue, much to Garrison's chagrin.
Meanwhile, on the domestic front, with William Lloyd Garrison shepherding the more affluent Liberty party to adopt a more radical rhetoric against the establishment and secret societies as a whole, the Anti-Masonic party would see a sudden bleed of support, as several of its representatives switched their party affiliations in their 1846 and 1847 campaigns. This bleed would continue, as the party became Garrison's largest outsider ally on key legislative reforms, with Garrison championing the collapsing party's platform on issues such as poll tax and voting reforms, and fines for secret societies. By 1848, party officials would agree on a formal merge, as the remainder of party members switched over. As Temperance sentiment spreads far and wide across the nation, Natavist feelings soar to unprecedented heights; as Catholics and the Irish find themselves in the crosshairs of nativism, owing to stereotypes associating them with regular drinking and heavy alcohol consumption.

Federalist
Led by their esteemed leader, George Evans, federalists have undergone a significant transformation following a series of setbacks, including major electoral defeats to the oligarchy during the "Revolution of 1846" in both the Presidential and House races, and narrowly retaining control of the Senate. They distanced themselves from the still-sensitive Daniel Webster administration, and addressing concerns over his well-known alcoholism and allegations of sympathy to liquor, they adopted a more pronounced pro-temperance stance; with states such as Connecticut and New Hampshire, where they held sway over governorships and state legislatures, implementing stricter regulations. Moreover, although initially backing the Sedition Acts and playing key roles in its creation alongside Federalist President Noah Webster in 1827, most of the party shifted its stance by 1847, opposing its renewal. While Federalists have supported specific measures during the Garrison presidency, particularly those related to Temperance and opposition to the Sedition Acts, the party has emerged as Garrison's main opponent, leveraging their status as the second-largest party in the House and their majority in the Senate, to block much of his agenda. Notably, Massachusetts representative Nathaniel Briggs Borden, supported by the party establishment, spearheaded Federalist efforts to censure Garrison for his attempts to rein in the National Bank. Nonetheless, with the defense of the Law and Order party, Garrison managed to evade censure with a vote margin of 19-35. Nevertheless, leveraging their control in the Senate, Federalists effectively obstructed Garrison's legislative agenda, halting proposed cuts to national defense meant to prioritize funding for education and infrastructure, as outlined in Garrison's Bill of rights. Additionally, they stymied social reforms proposed by Garrison, including provisions in The Penitentiary Act of 1848 aimed at alleviating penalties for tax evasion, victims of the Sedition Acts, and Dorr sympathizers. Furthermore, they thwarted the full implementation of Garrison's Land Reform policy, which aimed to repurchase all lands acquired by foreign investors.
Despite defeats amid the "Revolution of 1846" and a party identity crisis, the glimmer of victory at the end of the tunnel, driven by opposition to Garrison and his efforts to dismantle the National Bank, has spurred party unity. Centering their campaign primarily on one issue: The National Bank, Federalists argue that Garrison's attempts to curtail it are unconstitutional, citing the 13th amendment which established a strong permanent bank, and criticizing his use of the spoils system, particularly Arthur Tappan's appointment as bank president in the wake of Appleton's removal. Opponents criticize Tappan as too inexperienced, highlighting his close friendship with Garrison and lack of a banking background, exacerbated by Appleton's own nearly decade-long experience as its president, to allege cronyism. On economics, Federalists campaign on reinstating Appleton; passing legislation to ensure the bank's stability; and the further federalizing of the bank to its pre-Garrison status. Cooperation with private industries in the construction of infrastructure, to limit government spending so that the nation may pay off the heavy debts sustained from a lengthy war on top of an economic depression. They also contest Garrison's efforts to distance New England's ties with British trade and investors, advocating instead for a stronger connection with other European Powers; They champion a return to a close-knit relationship, both diplomatically and economically, with Federalists emphasizing Britain, which contributed heavily to their independence and later the diplomatic resolution of the War of 1839, as their foremost ally.
This political cartoon, prominent during the Revolutionary War to depict Yankees as British loyalists, has regained popularity as a means to mock the Federalists' affection towards Britain and pro-British policies.
Liberty
Unseating the long-standing single-party rule of the Federalists during the Revolution of 1846, the Liberty Party stepped into the fray amidst a transformative era following a return to stability. Conceived by now-President William Lloyd Garrison under the influences of transcendentalism and liberty, advocating opposition to the government and support for limited intervention, it proved easier said than done to translate ideals into reality. Garrison eventually faced the stark reality upon assuming office, facing a slim majority in the House and a minority in the Senate, which forced him to navigate within the system, leaving much of his agenda in vain. Furthermore, Garrison's failure to pass equal rights and his proposed bill of rights has led inner-party critics, led by George Ripley, a Unitarian minister, and Henry David Thoreau, an author and former campaigner of Garrison, who has returned to civilization from his isolation in the forests of Massachusetts, to label Garrison as "corrupted" by political institutions. Other intra-party critics criticize his national restrictions on alcohol, attempts to block foreign business and investment, and fines for secret societies as further increasing the authority and scope of the government when the party's whole platform stood against it. Nonetheless, allies argue that his restrictions and expansion of executive power are necessary evils to tackle the root causes of societal issues and special interests and to promote the nation's independence while also supporting local businesses and industries.
Despite the emergence of splintering anti-Garrison factions, the Liberty Party has sought to navigate controversy by upholding the core tenets of Garrison's presidency. These include his cessation of collaboration with the U.S. on the deportation of fugitives from the Hudson-Greenway line; dismantling what Liberators perceive as a corrupt National Bank, and his instrumental role in achieving Statehood for the District of Maine after a struggle spanning over a decade, resulting in the creation of two new states: Maine and Bangor. In addition to championing Garrison's established agendas, the party endeavors to garner support for unfinished initiatives. These include proposals to expand the House's seats from 65 to 86, with each state gaining two more representatives than its electoral vote in the Electoral College, thus aiming to bolster representation. Furthermore, they advocate for Garrison's Second Bill of Rights, seeking to amend the constitution to ensure rights for all citizens and to federalize the poll tax to a reduced fee of $1.80. Additionally, they push for legislation aimed at diminishing the influence of Jewish bankers and investments, echoing Garrison's public condemnation of them as "the enemy of the people and Christ" and their purported "stranglehold over our nation's wealth."
The origin of the party name and of its followers, William Lloyd Garrison's \"The Liberator\" has remaiend infleuntial even despite Garrison's dpearture, with followers hanging the cover of the paper to show their support for the party.
Law and Order
Despite suffering heavy defeats amidst the Revolution of 1846 and Thomas Dorr's rebellion, the cornerstone of the party's creation, now relegated to the back burner of voters' minds, the Law and Order alliance of Farmers, Liberals, Traditionalists, and former Federalists and Nationalists finds itself in an awkward position. Larger parties such as the Federalists have adopted the centerpiece coalition's platform, such as the Federalists now championing calls for cooperation with the U.S. and moderate views on black and women's rights, while the Liberty Party advocates for limited government and a smaller national bank; Nonetheless, the Law and Order coalition has attempted to carve out a platform wedged between the two current party giants. Led by the party's House leader Robert C. Winthrop, the party has strongly emphasized its economic agenda, in a bid to set it apart from the two leading parties. They advocate for a limited National Bank, arguing for its scope to be restricted to essential sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and trade. Additionally, they propose limits on the money supply to maintain a stable bimetal gold and silver standard, advocate for increased transparency regarding bank loans, and impose requirements for loan eligibility. Moreover, emphasizing a limited federal government approach in favor of state control, they argue for allowing states to charter their own banks to a certain extent. They have also advocated for giving full control to the states to set their whiskey and alcohol policies, supporting government rollbacks on Garrison's national restrictions. Critics from the Law and Order faction lambaste Garrison for what they perceive as insufficient efforts to rein in the National Bank. Instead, they accuse him of employing the spoils system by appointing his friend, Arthur Tappan, whom many consider inexperienced, to oversee it, despite most of the party voting to replace Appleton with him. The party has argued for lower tariffs, contending that high tariffs disproportionately affect the nation's farmers while benefiting wealthy foreign and domestic investors and businesses; Additionally, they argue that lower tariffs would benefit consumer interests.
Championed by Winthrop and fellow prominent Law and Orderites, including Senator Franklin Pierce, former Governor Edward Everett, Representative Charles G. Atherton, Rhode Island speaker John Hopkins Clarke, and a now one-legged John Fairfield, the party has attempted to adopt a "Proclamation of Neutrality" regarding foreign policy, believing their strength could be achieved through trade and cordial relations with any country, regardless of past relations or tensions with the nation's ally states. Most notably, their support for this policy extends to the nation's most infamous and longstanding enemy, the United States, with whom the nation has fought two wars. Any attempts to reconcile have been further complicated after the election of vocal anti-Fugitive ally, William Lloyd Garrison, who halted Yankee cooperation in the retrieval and return of fugitives. Nevertheless, this faction, derisively labeled the "Doughfaces" by critics due to their perceived willingness to bend to U.S. interests argues that cooperation was necessary. They point to the provisions of the Treaty of Brussels and the agreed-upon reward for captured fugitives, whom they claim weren't even citizens of New England, that the U.S. agreed to pay; Which they contend as a necessary evil to tackle and settle the burdensome debts the nation has accumulated in recent years. In stark contrast, the "Firebrands," nicknamed as such due to the fearmongering that their support for Garrison's policy will spark a third crisis between the two bordering nations, are led by Representative John P. Hale of New Hampshire and Associate Justice Marcus Morton, the 1841 National Party nominee. Famously during a party meeting, Hale would passionately argue, "After witnessing the sacrifice of countless lives, the toll of significant casualties, the devastation wrought upon our infrastructure, and the profound scars etched upon our nation, it would be nothing short of tragic to discover ourselves entangled once more in the very predicament we endeavored to escape..." This sentiment has been echoed similarly by the rest of the Firebrands as they emerge as the top faction opposed to inner-party calls for cooperation with the United States.
\"DIPLOMATIC SCALES, a true balance\" a pro-Doughface political cartoon, contends through a smudge of humor, that the only way that the two nations, New England and the United States could remain in harmony is through compromise. Meanwhile, highlighting their role in the Treaty of Brussells and War of 1839, a man in the bottom-right conner, the personifcation of Britian interjects with his own oponions.

Minor Party

This section is dedicated to minor parties that lack ballot access or cannot field candidates beyond specific races, making their chances of winning impossible.
Drunkards
Amidst the backdrop of anti-immigrant and Catholic sentiments fueled by campaigns advocating Temperance and the implementation of anti-alcohol measures on the national agendas of leading political factions, a coalition of politically engaged Catholic and Irish immigrants has emerged. Spearheaded by the influential editor of The Boston Post, James Gordon Bennett Sr., a Scottish Roman Catholic, their collective efforts have given rise to a small yet significant political organization: the Workingman's Party. With minor political connections, the party has largely remained native to Massachusetts, where it has contested several seats across the state, on a platform consisting of only three issues: equal protections for immigrants and immigrant workers, labor rights, and most infamously of all, opposition to temperance and alcohol restrictions. As a consequence, despite its intended role as a champion for laborers and immigrants, the party has more famously become to be known the mocking moniker of the "Drunkards" party, a label crafted by detractors to smear its reputation and insinuate that the party is run by a bunch of alcoholics who only became politically active after attempts to take or limit their bottle consumption

2024.05.14 00:18 throwawayacc7829 Complex Inheritance Situation in Kentucky:

I’m grappling with a complicated inheritance issue here in Kentucky and could use some informed guidance. I’m lined up to speak with a local attorney, but I hoped to get some preliminary advice from this knowledgeable community.
Here's the background:
Given these factors, especially the lack of a will and my father and uncle’s claims, I'm trying to understand the best path forward to ensure the house can be transferred to me as my step-grandmother wishes, without falling into the hands of creditors or being forced into sale by my father or uncle.
Do they have any valid claims under Kentucky law that would enable them to demand their "cut" of the estate? And if so, is there a way to navigate or mitigate these claims in favor of honoring my step-grandmother's intentions?
It should be noted when my grandfather passed away in 2008, and at that time, my dad negotiated with my step-grandmother to pay $10,000 to my biological grandmother to buy out her share and transfer the house solely into my step-grandmother's name. Which it is today.
Any advice on how to proceed, legal mechanisms that might protect the property, or insights into Kentucky's inheritance laws in this context would be immensely helpful. Thanks so much for your time and assistance.

The Allure of Buying Land for Sale in the Middle of Nowhere
The Allure of Buying Land for Sale in the Middle of Nowhere
The Allure of Purchasing Property for Sale in the Remote CountrysideAmid our rapidly moving, interconnected world, the appeal to Purchase Property for Sale in the Remote Countryside is intensifying. With the surge of distant labor and the yearning for a more uncomplicated, more maintainable lifestyle, an increasing number of individuals are searching for secluded and rural lands to claim as their own. Whether it's for a break from routine, a lasting abode, or an investment prospect, the charm of having a parcel of land in the midst of nowhere is unquestionable. What is it about purchasing land in the middle of nowhere that is so appealing? In this piece, we'll delve into the various reasons why individuals are captivated by remote properties, the perks and trials of possessing land in the center of nowhere, and certain suggestions for those contemplating taking the leap and procuring their very own piece of rural utopia. What Draws People to Remote Properties? There are numerous reasons why people are attracted to remote properties, but one of the most significant aspects is the longing for serenity, silence, and seclusion. Many people feel overwhelmed and stressed by the buzz and activity of modern life, and yearn for the opportunity to break free to a more peaceful and secluded atmosphere. Remote properties offer the opportunity to dwell in harmony with nature, apart from the clamor and diversions of urban and suburban life.In addition to the allure of peace and quiet, numerous individuals are also drawn to remote properties due to their potential for autonomy and sustainability. With the escalation of climate change and environmental apprehensions, a growing number of people are seeking methods to live more sustainably and lessen their ecological impact. Remote properties offer the prospect to live off the grid, cultivate one's food, and live a more autonomous life. For some, the engrossment of owning land in the middle of nowhere is also linked to an aspiration for excitement and exploration. Remote properties frequently grant access to awe-inspiring natural scenes and outdoor recreational activities, ranging from hiking and camping to hunting and fishing. For enthusiasts of outdoor pursuits, the prospect of possessing a parcel of land in the middle of nowhere is a dream realized. The Benefits and Hurdles of Possessing Land in the Middle of NowherePossessing land in the middle of nowhere offers a wide array of advantages, but it also comes with its ample share of challenges. One of the most considerable advantages of remote properties is the sense of liberation and self-reliance they bestow. When you possess a parcel of land in the middle of nowhere, you have the liberty to make use of the property however you see fit, whether it's for recreational activities, agriculture, or simply as a spot to escape and relax.Remote properties also offer the potential for monetary gains, whether through appreciation in land value, rental earnings, or the advancement of the land for commercial or residential aims. For some, possessing land in the middle of nowhere is a long-term investment tactic, providing the potential for a lofty yield on investment over time.Encompassing the advantages, nevertheless, possessing land in the middle of nowhere also accompanies its substantial quota of challenges. Remote properties often lack access to essential services and amenities, such as electricity, water, and internet connectivity. This can make it demanding to live comfortably and sustainably in a remote location, and may necessitate substantial investment in infrastructure and off-grid technology.Another challenge of possessing land in the middle of nowhere is the possibility for isolation and restricted access to healthcare, education, and other indispensable services. Residing in a remote locale can be demanding, particularly for those unaccustomed to the solitude and absence of community that accompanies rural living. It is crucial for anyone contemplating purchasing a remote property to cautiously take into account the potential challenges and how they can be surmounted.Tips for Acquiring Land in the Middle of NowhereIf you're contemplating acquiring land in the middle of nowhere, there are a few vital tips to bear in mind to ensure a successful and satisfying acquisition. The initial step is to meticulously research and ponder over the location of the property. Search for areas that present the natural beauty and recreational opportunities you yearn for, while also being fairly close to crucial services and amenities. It's also crucial to meticulously contemplate the potential for development and land use regulations in the area. Some remote properties may encompass restrictions on construction or development, which could affect your long-term intentions for the property. Make sure to thoroughly scrutinize the zoning laws and regulations in the area before making a purchase. When assessing potential properties, it's also indispensable to contemplate the land itself, encompassing the topography, soil quality, and water access. These aspects will exert a notable impact in determining the property's potential for agricultural or recreational usage, as well as its comprehensive value and sustainability.Prior to making a purchase, it's also vital to consult with local experts, such as real estate agents, attorneys, and land consultants, who can provide valuable insights into the local market and aid in navigating the purchasing process. Additionally, it's crucial to meticulously inspect the property and procure a survey and title search to ensure that there are no concealed issues or encumbrances that could influence your investment. To encapsulate, possessing land in the middle of nowhere offers the prospect for peace, quiet, and independence, as well as the potential for sustainable living and monetary gain. While remote properties are accompanied by their substantial share of challenges, the appeal of acquiring land in the middle of nowhere is unquestionable, as more and more individuals seek to break free from the pressures of modern life and embrace a simpler, more natural manner of living. With careful research and thoughtful consideration, anyone can find their very own piece of rural paradise and take pleasure in the numerous advantages that accompany owning land in the middle of nowhere.

2024.05.13 21:52 askdrwiggins Would you be interested in an online teaching and training platform that only charges a flat monthly subscription cost?

Question: For all the course creators, trainers, coaches and teachers.... Would you be interested in an online learning and teaching platform (similar to Udemy and Coursera) that only charges a monthly subscription plan. Therefore, you would earn 100% of all revenue and sales. If so, what monthly fee would you be willing to pay, and what functionality would you like to have?

2024.05.13 21:06 WeaknessOrganic3809 Cashiers No Longer Allowed at Legacy Registers ?

Not sure if this is Michaels wide, but this past weekend due to the high traffic with Mother's Day some stores in our area experienced unfortunate LP loss, scams, etc. I'm a PT CEM in a smaller store and we were just told by our DM that he no longer wants to see any cashiers on the Legacy registers moving forward at all, "No Exceptions". Our store just got SCO about a month or two ago and only uses Legacy registers for cash transactions and returns. Starting out, the cashiers were allowed on these registers if it wasn't busy up front, then it became "only when a MOD is up front tag-teaming or helping you", and now its none at all.
While I understand this reaction, how does this make any logical sense functioning in the store ? Our Scorecard numbers for Rewards have already suffered a humongous cut for individual employees signups since SCO (which makes sense), but now they are not allowed to ever get a signup or application themselves (since they're not allowed on Legacy) at all ? What is the point of coaching for sign ups now that they are not responsible for their individual scores and its only up to MODs ?
Also my store usually only has one cashier and CEM working on schedule most evenings, and I can't see myself basically being cashier all night on the Legacy rather than close the store properly. Also as CEM I'd rather be on the floor when not necessary up front to help customers and push for sales floor applications. While I don't mind tag-teaming and assisting up front, it shouldn't be my only role when I'm the only manager on duty. If anything I feel it may create more LP issues on the floor. I think taking cashiers away from these transactions is only going to make it more difficult to train them to recognize these issues in the first place. It also kills their motiviation to get sign ups or applications.
I see this move as simply reactionary and moreso an error in training. Especially when the LP issue that created this occured at a different location. Our cashiers have been solely using Legacy themselves the whole time the store's been open up until we got SCO a few months ago - and now it seems to Michaels that no cashier can be trusted to do their job/ and the CEM/MOD has to take over. I think there needs to be more emphasis on training if Michael's actually wants a functioning SCO, sign ups, and attention to LP at the same time.
Any advice ? I really like my job but its changed a lot since I've started, and I would love to offer some better ideas to my team than just give in to this very stupid rule. My SM is more scared of our DM coming in and seeing a cashier at Legacy than offering a solution.

2024.05.13 20:42 Naya888_ Confusion on differing models of the psyche

I’m doing some research for a fiction book and noticed something that ultimately confuses me:
From my reading and understanding, the shadow exists as part of one’s personal unconscious, where repressed or rejected parts of the corresponding ego reside like two sides of the same coin.
Example
However, many depictions and interpretations of Jung’s idea depict the shadow as residing in the collective unconscious rather than in or as part of the personal unconscious.
Example
Example This one is interesting as it depicts the shadow as a collective unconscious archetype projecting into the personal unconscious as a shadow complex…
Example

Example
Have I researched incorrectly? Am I interpreting the models incorrectly? I notice that there seems to be A LOT of creative liberties and interpretations for Jung models out there, many of which containing terms I’ve never heard of, so many I just need to read/research more?

2024.05.13 20:40 dererum-natura Drivers pitching their businesses to me: a rant

Is this normal? In my last two rides both drivers tried to pitch their businesses to me, somewhat aggressively.
The first was a life coach and was asking me questions like “what is your calling?” and telling me that it was not a coincidence we were meeting. After I told them I wasn’t interested, they pressured me to follow them in LinkedIn just in case I change my mind!
The second was trying to sell me on their cryptocurrency coaching business, telling me I can make 2k/month to start and millions down the road.
In both rides their pitch started off really casually, but halfway through they became more pushy. I couldn’t wait for my rides to be over so I could get away from them. I am pretty friendly and usually take cues from the driver whether to chat or not. I don’t mind some small talk, and I respect the hustle, but I found this to be really uncomfortable. I am paying for a car ride, not for a sales pitch.

2024.05.13 19:58 Evil_Monstar Thinking about a used work truck for my new business

I’ve recently began the process of starting my own business. I’ve been looking at retired Verizon trucks because they come with a generator, and air compressor built in, which is ideal for the type of work that I do. I’ve found one that seems like a killer deal but then reading the carfax it says 2 accidents, and towed 3 times due to mechanical issues. It’s a 2008 GMC Savana 3500 Cutaway with only 26.5k miles. Dealer is offering it as-is, but they work with an extended warranty company to get coverage if I’d like it. I live in Virginia, but the truck is in Belleville, NJ. I’d really hate to make a trip that far and have an issue otw home. Obviously it’s hard to tell from pics and videos, but any insight from a person more mechanically inclined than myself would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.13 19:19 Looplooplooploo $600 NWT?

$600 NWT?
I’m looking to get a NWT for overseas tours (1-2 weeks). Found this deal on an older NWT. I live in a super remote area that has a very limited bike market, but this owner could ship to me in a travel case (price would maybe be $900 then with shipping).
Worth it? I do wish I could be there in person to try it out, because I haven’t test ridden a NWT. Am I nuts to buy remotely from Craigslist? (Tips for how to do this?)
Also this looks like an an XSmall. I’m 5’6” so a 52cm Small might be a safer choice?
Thanks for your advice!

2024.05.13 19:01 zoozla Running an agency is hard, but it doesn't have to be

Whether you're running a web dev shop, a graphic design factory or a marketing outfit, the hardest thing about this is getting clients.
Especially good clients.
Especially consistently.
But it doesn't have to be.
With the right mindset, and the right set of techniques, we can all find plenty of awesome clients to serve.
Here on this sub were going to be experimenting with some marketing, sales and positioning ideas and grow our agencies consistently.
I'll be your host.
My name is Eli Finer and I've been a developer for 24 years, a coach for 14, and I have been doing marketing and sales full time form the last 4 years.
Let's get started.
(Oh, and yeah, I got banned for self promotion from agency which is the mods' total right. I just thought it would still be useful for you and for me to have a space to discuss these things freely).

2024.05.13 17:33 ilikefriesaftermynap Dad Got Fired After 5 Years, Don’t Know What To Do..

I’m writing this because as a daughter (and the oldest child) of immigrant parents, I am expected to have all the answers and I have no idea what to do.
My father (62M) has been a truck driver for a beverage company for the last 5 years. He always went to work, did his job, came in during days when they were short staffed, and had good relationships with his managers.
My dad complained about a department store he would deliver to, specifically a lady which is their receiver, we’ll call her Tammy. My dad never told his supervisors about her, but he would tell us that she can be very bipolar sometimes and get demanding with certain requests that my father can’t complete or whatever. Long story short, Tammy and my dad did not have the smoothest relationship.
Moving forward to April 25(I think), my dad went to deliver a truck to Tammy’s store, and a beer vendor was blocking the entry way so my dad told Tammy he’ll be back so he can make his other stops, Tammy said it was fine as long as he came back by 12pm. My dad discussed this with his supervisor, and got the thumbs up.
Dad goes back before 12pm, and noticed Tammy’s mood was VERY off. He did his thing. Tammy requested my dad take back a crate and my dad explained to her he can’t take back just one due to company policy or whatever. Tammy got pissy and started saying stuff under her breath and my dad got a bit defensive.
Anyway, I guess things got a little heated and apparently two other people (who my dad says work with Coke on the sales side) stepped in. I know my dad made a comment to them saying “I’m speaking to Tammy not you please let me talk to her”.
Mind you, my dad is a 60 year old foreign man. He has a thick accent, and sometimes his words can come across harsh, not because he means to, but just because of his accent. He can’t find words or formulate them in an appropriate sentence at times, so his tone can be not very nice. I’m not trying to make excuses here..because I can see my dad rubbing off the wrong way sometimes because he has to me before, but…yeah.
Well anyway, he got fired yesterday. He gave a statement as to what happened (my brother (23M) wrote it up) and they handed him a notice they he was out yesterday. This caught my dad by surprise, because apparently when he left, Tammy was fine and in a good mood, called him darling and everything, and my dad really thought he was okay. But the complaint from them still came through and the beverage company decided to let my dad go. Not sure if it was Tammy or someone else that was there that made the report but that doesn’t matter.
Anyway, now, I’m stuck. My dad had the highest income in the family and pays off the majority of the bills with his paychecks as my moms checks are supplemental income and very low. My younger sister is in college, my brother is trying to get his foot planted since he just graduated. And I recently graduated and live in Chicago (parents are in VA)
I guess I’m asking for advice. I’ve been told to ask them to change the reason for termination from being fired to my dad resigning but how likely is this even possible? How do I even approach them about this? They gave no warning to my dad, but I assume they don’t need to since he’s at will? How do I even confirm if he’s at will? Does that even matter? My dad has never received a warning in the past or anything, does that help this case? I mean I really don’t know what to do next.
Finding another truck driving job seems like the biggest challenge right now because how do I (since I will probably be attending his interviews with him as a translator) explain that my dad got fired for that? 5 years at a company man..I can’t even just not include that work history since it’s such a long time.
I have experience helping my dad find a job because in 2008 when I was just 12, my father got laid off. However, because he was laid off vs fired, I was able to answer his interview questions well, and assisted with filing for his unemployment. But now? Like now what.. Can he even get unemployment?
Please give me any advice. I’m an open book here.
Edit: Yes! Dad has a CDL Class A License.
Edit: No dad isn’t illiterate, but there is a language barrier (and a heavy one at that)
Edit: extending my sincerest gratitude for all of the advice. Every perspective counts, and I appreciate all the insights!
