2024.05.15 04:11 Dead_Moxie "Victory or Valhalla!"
| This tale happened in the morning via Duty Roulette LV90. Seeking Tomes, I queued as Warrior for (1) a fast dungeon pace and (2) Adventurer in Need being Tank. This is kinda long so, get a chair and some pop-corn. The selected dungeon was The Dead Ends. The party was composed by Samurai, Bard, and Astrologian. -> \"One or more party members have yet to complete thsi duty\" Entering the dungeon, I get the "yet to complete duty" warning, meaning things were about to get interesting. I'm gonna section this like the other post I did of the Dead Ends via the bosses. 1. "A plague descends!" The first boss started normally. That was until we reached the Miasma attack, where AST and SAM got hit. AST probably thought it was a DOT, until it wasn't; AST and SAM were K.O.'ed. https://preview.redd.it/d9wk9u3lzh0d1.png?width=447&format=png&auto=webp&s=4a113a6ad496b53645842c893a3fe665d12e8243 SAM got it confused as a Doom to heal up to maximum, but this wasn't the case. BRD was probably too focused on their own rotation to grant Warden's Paean to someone. Fortunately, as a Warrior, I had Nascent Flash at my disposal to keep the BRD alive, so we continued until the boss was killed. https://preview.redd.it/n9jp3qvwzh0d1.png?width=568&format=png&auto=webp&s=7f4b9b02dd3ed6ade594f3875ad8aad35e3732b3 2. "Vital signs detected" We reached to the second boss, the Peacemaker, someone who doesn't take too kindly to party members being close in distance. We started the fight normally, with nothing crazy happening. Suddenly, on No Future, I was able to glance that the AST and SAM were very close, which lead to a problem; AoEs can overlap. When they realized this, they tried to fix the issue. However, they each received one Vuln stack from the red markers, and a subsequent AoE on their heads, K.O.'ing them once again. https://preview.redd.it/ulzvs9jozh0d1.png?width=571&format=png&auto=webp&s=91a4c9461bcac080928d6051f650602e11c4def0 I refused to wipe and decided to go onwards with the fight, following the same strategy as before to protect the BRD. Eventually, the Peacekeeper made its peace. 3. "Victory or Valhalla! Let us sing together!" BRD and I seemed to be very inspired to tackle the bosses even in dire conditions, but we kept onwards to the end of our duty. https://preview.redd.it/qegitqiszh0d1.png?width=373&format=png&auto=webp&s=80bfa8aac53c50963fee245bf47ce893113f0b7e We reached to the last boss, with a little change. BRD brought up the secret weapon: The Dorito. https://preview.redd.it/16w6nwz10i0d1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=6f8d2bdfa845ec0be6f948240275c40a039fa35e Unfortunately, this was not enough to protect the AST and SAM from some of the mechanics: Both were hit with Doom, in which case I threw a Nascent Flash to AST to top them off before a Stack attack. As I had to make a choice and AST was worried about living, SAM's Doom expired and was K.O.'ed. However, even after the Stack, AST's HP went very low, and a raidwipe was coming. Sadly, they panicked, and thanks to 2 Vuln stacks, the damage was too much that they were also K.O.'ed. https://preview.redd.it/ai7jtb730i0d1.png?width=367&format=png&auto=webp&s=75e9765024f404f77ac091ee9962d1f36d4003cf Things went downhill afterwards. I followed the same strategy to kept BRD alive. However, even with Nascent Flash on BRD, the damage from not one but two consecutive raidwipes were too much that BRD eventually got K.O.'ed. https://preview.redd.it/gnxv8fr50i0d1.png?width=452&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2324a1ae3b7bdcb5a03dbec387d0b30846096a5 Now, it was up to me to take down a boss that was at 50%. The fight ended up for like possibly 5 to 10 more minutes, using the LB2 and Holmgang for the Stacks, unaware of the possible damage alone. The party was having a bit of a chatter while I was just throwing hands with the freaking lion thing. https://preview.redd.it/ka7ot8ga0i0d1.png?width=567&format=png&auto=webp&s=f54b30b254f911d89c9fe735caec0a01e8b28890 Eventually, the boss perished by my own hands (and the axe I had). https://preview.redd.it/nxgbz7ed0i0d1.png?width=562&format=png&auto=webp&s=124cafd693afbd96ecaa0d4771aed9a80f49b4e5 And goodness gracious, that was a workout for just the first dungeon I decided to do for the Roulettes. We delivered our GGs and exited the dungeon. I wonder how different would it had been if I went any other Tank. Anyways, I hope this funny positive tale lightens someone's day up. o7 submitted by Dead_Moxie to TalesFromDF [link] [comments] |
2024.05.15 04:08 actionableadvice20 Consistency Guide: Actionable Advice
CONSISTENCY GUIDE
Consistency is what is preached over and over in the Self Help world and for a good reason. Rome was not built in a day. It is one thing we all have heard. But a lot of people do have trouble with consistency and this is my guide for consistency.
WHO IS IT FOR:
It is a generalised guide which can be applied in any field of self improvement. This could be a bit difficult if it is on any activity which is an obligation but if it is not that it would help you. So if you need to develop any habit on a consistent basis, this would help.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
I always had a problem with consistency. I lived with ups and downs and was unable to follow through things for a long time. So this is what I have done to develop consistency which I have applied mostly on the work I do, my college classes, gym as well as the self improvement habit I indulge in like meditation, reading, even in skills like playing guitar, playing chess. So this guide would work in these cases as well as cases similar to that.
ACTIONABLE ADVICE:
- Bare Minimum: Start with Bare minimum. Best way to calculate the bare minimum is TIME. So 1 minute of meditation, 1 minute of exercise, and then build from there. Obviously most people would be able to do 1 minute of work on anything.
- Increase on a monthly basis: What I used to do was I do 10 tasks one day and then add 2 more tasks the other day and then get overwhelmed and just do 5 tasks or no tasks for the next 5 days. So if you are comfortable with doing 10 tasks for 1 minute each day, do that and then do 11 tasks next month and 12 tasks the month after that. So that you are able to do the given amount of tasks for the whole month
- Increase time on a weekly basis: So you start with 1 minute, 10 tasks and you would increase the tasks next month, so what to do in the month of 10 tasks, you increase the time weekly. I used to increase on a daily basis but then again got overwhelmed, so Increase the time on a weekly basis, so if you do 1 minute of meditation for the whole week, increase it to two minutes of meditation the next week.
- Add Variety: This is more applicable for things like Working out and Books where you should add variety to keep your interest in. I change my workout every 6 weeks, you can also change every 4 weeks. In terms of books, nowadays I read 60 books but I read 6 books and 10 pages for each book. This variety keeps my interest in the things.
- Aim at improvement not 100%: don’t aim for 100% success rate, nobody has that. Aim at improving the amount of tasks, time of tasks over weeks and months and not aim at having 100% success rate as that is not the thing you would be able to be consistent at as stuff happens which would spoil that streak so aim at getting better not being perfect.
SUMMARY:
Do bare minimum things for bare minimum time and increase time on a weekly basis and add tasks on a monthly basis, add variety in the places where you can add and not aim at being 100% perfect but at improving.
I hope this would be able to help you be more consistent as it has helped me. If you have any problem with your life, tell me in the comments and I will make a guide about it if I have solutions to your problem. If you have any review regarding the way I write, tell me in the comments.

2024.05.15 03:45 weebtier654 Weightlifting to Calisthenics/Bodyweight Fitness. Where to start
Hi. I've been slowing incorporating more bodyweight fitness into my workouts but I now want to transition completely. Weightlifting (3-4ishg years) hasn't been feeling the same and this feels more enjoyable to do and easier on my body. Would the Recommended routine be a good place to start? I already have some decent strength like I can do roughly 3x8-10 pull ups (1x1 with 45lb) or Planchet pushups/archer push ups, Etc. Not sure where to start program wise. I was thinking of doing the RR with more advance moves like above since I have never really done a full body workout.
Any suggestions or is the above fine start for the next few weeks/months.
Would it be weird to feel weaker with the switch? (like I can't lift the same weights prior to switching if that makes sense)

2024.05.15 03:39 CuriousCat177 Anyone else feeling totally unmotivated in their workouts right now?
I’m following a program, it’s good, I want to be doing it - but also don’t want to do it and actively hate every moment of it. I’m so unmotivated, my workouts are taking twice as long as they should because I keep stopping and muttering “urge don’t wanna…” then going to make myself a cup of tea and browse the internet.
The only thing that’s making me do them is my commitment to do a certain number of workouts a month (average of 2 x 45 minutes) or make myself repeat a month, I’ll look at my calendar and think “you can’t get out of this or you won’t make it (this month is harder because I was out for a week and a bit due to sickness and general laziness)
Anyone else? Post open for general rants or any kind of comments.

2024.05.15 03:38 Aggravating-Camel298 Need help from my fellow man, I have everything I've ever wanted, but feeling so overwhelmed.
Hey dudes,
A little set up, I'm 32, and something is going on in my life. For the last year I've felt progressively worse. I think there are a few factors.
I switched careers a few years back into programming. I'm very consumed with it, I've studied + work every day for 3 years now. I'm talking 60-80 hours a week studying and programming for 3 years. I'm working on my masters atm + my day job + doing a job hunt since my job is having layoffs constantly. I love programming a lot but I have been starting to get frustrated with it.
Another thing, I have pretty high standards for myself. I workout daily, I take cold showers, focus on my self improvement a lot, and try to keep my house really clean and what not.
I also have a 2 year, really love her, and she's a typical 2 year old.
I'm also married, to the women I dated since 18, we married at 24. We had some extremely toxic times in the past. That's as specific as I'm willing to be. She's a very smart, possibly low level autistic, high achiever. She's also working on her masters atm.
I've also struggled with like medical stress in the past: thinking I had cancer and what not. I don't have those fears anymore, but I have been having all these doctors appointments, and a surgery for something in my ear drum. I'm not like fearful of it but it adds to my stress just all the logistics of it.
So anyways, I've been feeling really fried and terrible the last year. The last few months though it's getting very bad. I was just in Ireland for 2 weeks, and I was literally up all night one night just thinking how I wish I would just die.
I'm not s_____, it's more like: "if I died, that would be just fine" It's a very dark place for me right now. I just feel like I'm not enough, and I need to work harder to be enough.
My typical day is:
- I write out a schedule of things I want to do, and when. Generally every hour of my day is planned.
- Generally I'm always feeling stressed on everything I need to do: interview prep, study for school, workout, clean the house, cook dinner, help out with my daughter, do my job, etc, etc. And I can never keep up with it all. I'm a 4.0 student, do well at work. I would say I hit my marks, and it's important to me.
So anyways... idk I'm looking for advice. I see this is a problem. And I'm very over it. I want to feel good and strong again. I've never struggled with depression in my life, but I have struggled with anxiety. I know I'm over loaded at the moment. I keep telling myself "Just push a little longer" and I think it will clear up: job hunt will end, school will end, my wife will get out of school, etc.
The reality is, I make way more money than I ever dream. I've achieved more than I ever dreamed. I've gone farther in school than anyone in my family. I have a nice house, a nice car, etc. But I feel worse than ever.
I don't want to slow down in school because I want it to be over with, tbh. It's extremely hard for me, but it will pay off I hope.
My wife is also extremely busy, school, daughter, high demand job. So when she has any free time she's looking at instagram trying to just relax. I don't expect her to solve my problems, but it does leave me feeling alone.
In general I just feel like if I died no one would care. I feel like if I was d___, it would all go away. Like all my stress would stop, and I could finally just relax.
Again, I am not s_____. But holy shit I feel alone, and tired.
What should I do? Be kind here, I'm not in the mode for criticism, just advice.

2024.05.15 03:30 geehawn Seeking family-friendly gym
Currently seeking recommendations on a gym membership that is family friendly. We have two children, 3 and 8. We used to have Calfit pre-covid and cancelled after they wanted to increase our rates when they reopened after the height of COVID
Being family friendly is important because we don't have many options to drop off kids, and Calfit (now In-Shape fitness) is the only gym we know of with a daycare-like area while we work out.
We know there are ways to incorporate kids into the workout and not rely on a gun membership 😁. But, we're the type that needs to focus on the workout regiment, or else we get distracted and find the workout ineffective. During vivid we tried just that, but found it difficult to focus to get the level of intensity we're selling. We may reduce the workout intensity, end the workout earlier than planned, etc.
We'd appreciate any advice and the cost you're paying, and if there is any good discounts for CA State employees.
TIA

2024.05.15 03:24 ghostofbane Restart recommendation
So I've been on trt for about 5 years now. Few months ago felt not as responsive as much. Tried multiple different amounts and frequencies. Last few months I even added hcg. Still no improvement. Tried hcg at 250units twice a week, 500units a week, etc. Yes balls came back but still no libido and sense of well being. Even without hcg I've had great numbers. Test ranges from troughs of 600s to 1200s. E2 ranges from 20s to mid 30s. With hcg I was at 800 t and 23 e2. When I got on a few years ago I was probably just stressed with a failing marriage, overtraining, diet, etc. Don't get me wrong, I made great progress with the energy I got. Going from 170 to 195lbs and pretty lean at being 6 1. Fertility is not an issue as I've had a vasectomy and already have 4 kids. Im just looking to get my libido back, sense of well being, and not have to take cialis which I think no longer is as effective for me anymore.
Looking for recommendations Currently I'm running 50mg of test 2x a week and 500units of hcg 2x a week. Yes I've run higher before on each still nothing worth while.
Looking for recommendations My current supply consist of Plenty of test 4 unreconstituted refill of hcg 2 bottles of anastorozole And about 30 year old clomid pills.
Any suggestions on restarting with that
Thanks all. Just want to see possibly by restarting due to me possibly jumping the gun to early. Pre trt levels were in the ranges of low 300s and low 400s but also felt like shit. Again thinking about it and yes I've had some good weeks on trt but 75% was not good due to hct always climbing and other various reasons. Yes I workout 5 times a week, eat pretty clean, cardio with zone 2.

2024.05.15 03:01 Straw_hat89 34[M4F] Mexico/Anywhere - Latino searching for his forever person to go on picnics during Sundays.
Hello there,
So, how's the start of the week treating you? Are you feeling those post-weekend blues yet? I always do tbh, I have no freaking idea how the weekend can end in the blink of an eye, but maybe that's because I have only Sundays off. So I treasure them as much as Gollum treasured The Ring. But here we are, we have to enjoy even week days, right? And I'm pretty sure that together we can make them way more enjoyable.
About me: Ok ,let's start by putting a name and a face to whoever is writing this: My name is Miguel, and I'm just a 34 years old guy enjoying a peaceful, and simple life in a small town in Mexico. Here are a
few pics because I know that for some people physical attraction is important. But keep in mind that those pics are all good angles and lightning, so maybe I'll have to send you a selfie after just waking up to show you my reality haha.
In terms of personality people describe me, primarily, as a really chatty, goofy, and curious person. But also as caring, supportive, empathic, and attentive. I value honesty, good communication, respect, loyalty, kindness, and empathy. So I'd love to find someone who's in the same channel because I'd love to receive what I can provide.
I consider myself a homebody type of person: I love to spend plenty of time at home watching Netflix, baseball games, interesting (they are random but I prefer to call them that) YT videos, sometimes listening to music, and I have been getting into reading recently (It helps me to sleep better). When I'm not at home I like to go for walks around town or spending time at the plaza or the park. On rare occasions I go to the city either to go to the movies, a baseball game, or just to buy clothes.
I have been slowly getting back into working out after some time dealing with injuries, so I'm taking things slowly, and being mindful about my body. Important to mention I workout at home, so if you into that we can maybe be gym buddies. Another thing I'm getting back into it is learning new languages. On top of Spanish and English, I also speak Portuguese, a bit of French, and I'm currently starting with Norwegian (people say it's easy so why not).
Last but not least, animals are a really important part of my life, especially dogs, and even when I don't have pets of my own just yet, my family and I, we take care of a couple of stray dogs, and one feral cat (I'm pretty sure my parents love them more than they love me). So cute dog and cat pictures are always on the menu.
I hope the post is not too long, but I really wanted to share some random facts about myself just to make you laugh and learn a bit more about me.
Bonus: - I went to a Catholic school for elementary (used to get in trouble with the nuns because I was always talking during class).
- I was a teenager obsessed with Karate Kid movies.
- I broke my wrist when I was kid while playing on a slide.
- I like to do the dishes after each meal.
- I adore rainy days (you know getting wet is good right? Ok, bad lewd joke haha).
- I'm scared of heights, the open sea, and roaches... But who's not afraid of roaches, right?
- Dating tv shows are my guilty pleasure (and Mean Girls movie too).
- I had a raw bean stuck inside my nose for two days when I was a kid.
- Used to love ghost stories as a kid, and also used to scare the shit out of my cousins and friends by reading those stories to them.
- I think LOTR are the best Christmas movies.
- I cry watching emotional movies.
- Pandas are my favorite animal.

2024.05.15 03:00 Straw_hat89 34[M4F] Mexico/Anywhere - Latino searching for his forever person to go on picnics during Sundays.

2024.05.15 02:50 allfather69 Typing woes, questionnaire.
I’ve been typed in MBTI but as a multitude of different types, and only once by Socionicists before (is that a word?), but was in a very unhealthy mental place then and I’m not sure it was accurate. I've filled out the questionnaire and tried to be thorough, although I think it comes across as rather muddled in some points, so I'm happy to clarify any bits. Thanks in advance for any help or input!
What do you study or do for a living? How did you come to do that? What do you like or dislike about it? - I study medieval languages and literature and folklore at a PhD level. I came into this somewhat accidentally - I’ve always been interested in history (not solely medieval), but began to specialise a bit more and found I had a knack for picking up several dead languages quite quickly. I always say I came to it by accident, but that sort of downplays how much I love it, and how I’ve been obsessed with history since I was a child.
- I love getting perspectives from the past and thinking about different belief systems, how perspectives on the world have changed diachronically and vary geographically. I want to understand the people of the past, sort of as an example of innate archetypical humanity in incredibly varied contexts. Reading these texts helps me understand people I know, myself, and humanity as a whole better. I also love how varied my day can be - I go to new places each year, I work on different projects each month, and I solve different problems each day.
- I dislike some of the instability surrounding future jobs - although I’m in one of the best departments in the world for this topic, it can be very difficult to get a job post-PhD in academia, something that remains a worry despite not being an imminent problem to solve.
What else do you do on a daily basis? What are your interests and hobbies? Why do you do them? - I work a lot and my partner says I don’t know how to relax. So a lot of my “hobbies” are doing things like learning extra languages (I recently started German), specifically languages that will be useful for my future studies/work.
- I work out pretty consistently, a mix of strength-training and cardio. I try to keep it even (although I read somewhere that a 60/40 split is optimal, 50/50 is close enough). I do this for a mix of health benefits, stress-relief (possibly could be considered a health benefit) and vanity. I will drop workouts when work becomes too busy though (it’s not priority number one)
- I like rock-climbing and hiking when I can, but I don’t do this daily.
- I plan future travels and work, and I also really like organising social events, but most of that is centred around organising and helping run departmental events at the moment. Despite this, I can be a bit of a shut-in on a day-to-day basis.
- I also play video games as stress relief, if I’ve completed enough stuff in the day. Games like Skyrim, Ghost of Tsushima, etc.
- I also spend a lot of time on reddit reading about various topics related to fantasy novels or videogames, mythology, psychology and psychiatry, various personality-typing systems, true crime (although less into this one than the others) also watch youtube videos about such things.
What are your values, and why? - I value determination, grit, and intelligence in friends quite a bit, and a sort of “can-do” optimism
- I value inclusivity, I dislike cliquish behaviour.
- I sort of don’t know how to describe this, but I find it annoying when people try to interfere in my work to suit their agenda - I value a sort of friendly “live and let live” mentality.
- Following on that, I value approaching people with an understanding rather than judgmental mindset
Describe your relationships with family and friends. What do you like and dislike about them? - I am not super hands on with my family - I live on the other side of the world from them - but I do like them, and keep connected electronically and through weekly or fortnightly Skype calls. I sometimes feel that they don’t really understand my interests, but they do care and try to pay attention regardless, and I know they see me as somewhat distant, but they see that as a personality quirk rather than indicative of lack of affection.
- I don’t have a super large friend group at the moment but have in the past. I’m focussing on quality over quantity at the moment, after spending a lot of time working in nightlife earlier in my life and having the massive social circles.
- I appreciate that my friends are intelligent, passionate, well-travelled and ambitious people.
- I struggle sometimes when friends don’t take me into account when I have done so for them, and I also sometimes find people a bit too caught up in their own worldviews and concerns without seeing what (to me) is the bigger community picture. I also really dislike when people try to apply moral pressure on me (that I have to care about a cause or I’m a bad person, etc.). I also find it frustrating when I’m the sole organiser of events or meet-ups.
What do you look for in friends? In romantic relationships? - This was somewhat answered above, but I also enjoy outgoing and warm people, and people who I think I can rely upon. I try to take people as they come, though, and have had all sorts of friends.
- In romantic relationships, I like when people are ambitious, determined, and intelligent but also kind and passionate people. I like them to have a level of overlapping interests with me (my partner is also a medieval scholar, but works more with artefacts and museum work).
What conflicts have you encountered recently with other people? Why did they happen? Which kinds seem to happen on a regular basis? - I can be accidentally rude at times without realising, and also can be a bit dismissive of views I think are dumb, sometimes hastily so.
- I can over-explain or simply talk too much or over-theorise
- I can be a bit of a people-pleaser
- A recent conflict was my trying to organise a departmental event and the other graduate students not contributing or seeing the larger picture of how that would help our department as a community, which I got very frustrated by.
What are your strengths? What do people like about you? What do you like about yourself? - I work really hard
- I try to create opportunities not just for myself but for those around me. I think we (not the whole world, obviously, but those around me) can all succeed.
- I am thorough in everything and don’t really half-ass stuff.
- I am pretty friendly and always up for a chat or to be a shoulder to cry on, and am pretty nonjudgmental (one friend says I always try to attribute other’s actions to a positive motive)
What are your weaknesses? What criticism do you often face from others? What do you dislike about yourself? - I can be impatient and don’t know how to relax/wait for things.
- Sometimes I can come across as weird or intense, and I wish I was better at toning that down and relating to people
- I get pretty insecure about what people think of me at times, and wish I was a little better or more confident there.
- I take on too much work - I have been called an “arbeidsoptimist” before
- Sometimes I can be overly conflict-avoidant - I’ll get frustrated by people, but try to work around that.
- I can be a bit hesitant about making decisions
- I have a moderately murky sense of self - hence the need for a typing questionnaire and struggles with self-typing
- When stressed, I catastrophise a lot, and can have quite a lot of anxiety about not living up to my potential or failing at the things I am working on.
In what areas of life can you manage well on your own? In what areas of your life would you like help? - I am good at keeping myself on task and working towards goals, I don’t really struggle with motivation or such.
- I’m pretty good at building connections and friendships with professors and other people and maintaining a sort of warm, friendly atmosphere in workplaces.
- I need help at times figuring which information is important and which can be left out. My work tends to spiral outwards and things like page-counts in papers or time-limits in presentations seem horrendously oppressive.
- I need help with taxes.
- I sometimes need help figuring out why I’m upset about things.
- I would like help figuring out my socionics type ;)
What things do you dislike doing? What things do you enjoy more than others? - I dislike cooking (it just doesn’t interest me, although I enjoy tasting different kinds of food, I am also happy eating the same thing everyday, which I do when I live on my own).
- I dislike things like taxes.
- I am struggling with this question. I guess I dislike when I cannot plan and have to wait and see about more information (not strictly a “dislike doing” answer). Unresolved problems or conflicts give me a lot of anxiety.
- I enjoy going to museums, climbing, exercise (while listening to a podcast about an interest, preferably in another language), analysing medieval literature, planning initiatives, theorising and brainstorming with professors and some friends.
What goals, aspirations, or plans do you have for the future, and why? - I want to publish more articles in and outside of my field. I have a couple I’m working on now, which range from 19th century literature (recently accepted as a journal article!) to niche folklore topics (recently presented at a conference) to medieval travel literature (readying for publication), so that is my immediate term, along with some travel for language-study later in the summer.
- Long term, I want to finish my PhD and become a professor in my field at a research-heavy (R1 or the equivalent) university
- I hope to master more languages (I need working competency in 5 to even pass my PhD qualifying exams), and to do so, I plan to travel (and acquire funding for that).
- I also want to be a little closer to my family, and take care of my partner and eventually marry.
What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)? - I have a lot of trinkets, artifacts, candles, and pieces of artwork up in my room. They are pretty varied, from statues (a bronze buddha from Sri Lanka, a basalt Horus from Egypt, and so forth) to artwork (Dante’s inferno by Botticelli, a Dali painting is up too at the moment), to some tibetan prayer flags, etc. Basically just stuff I’ve gotten from travels or as gifts.
- I’m pretty clean, in all honesty. I don’t mind clutter, but I don’t like when things are dirty.
If you won the lottery and didn't have to work anymore, what would you do? - Exactly what I am doing, but I’d have a nicer place to live and worry a little less. I acquire external funding for a lot of my travels, etc., so that stuff wouldn’t really change.
What traits do you find endearing that others might dislike? What traits are considered positive/neutral by others but tend to annoy you? - I find it somewhat endearing when people talk a lot about their own interests. I can usually relate it to things I am interested in without needing them to do that for me, and I also usually just find those things interesting.
- I find it endearing when
- I sometimes find it difficult when people leave all decision-making up to me, even if they’re trying to be flexible/easy. I can make the decisions, but don’t always like to.
How do you behave around strangers? - I am very polite, but don’t really engage with strangers that often. I can be a bit shy, and used to have a decent amount of social anxiety, but lately I’m just not interested in interacting with strangers.
How do you react to conflict? What do you do if somebody insults or attacks you? - Conflict really causes me a lot of anxiety if it’s with someone I know or have to see in the future. In those instances, I usually just don’t end up in conflict with them: I’m pretty friendly and try to see people’s perspectives.
- If not, and it’s with a stranger, I kind of just ignore them.
Would you ever be interested in starting a business? Why or why not? What role would you play in it? What kind of business would it be? - Not sure. I kind of prefer doing what I’m doing now - the research and teaching aspects. I don’t really know what sort of value I’d be adding to the world with a business, but I suppose if I could find something that was both interesting for me and seemed to fill a needed niche, sure.
- I like the business Facsimile finder, they make medieval manuscript reproductions. Perhaps something like that, or creating a sort of community centre/third place (I used to think about owning a pub, back in my bartending days).
How do you dress or manage your appearance? - I keep things pretty simple, and try to stick to classic clothes (rather than trendy). Timeless and simple, more or less. That being said, I enjoy colours, and try to model my wardrobe a bit off of an autumnal palate (I got really into colour season theory a couple of months ago briefly, and was “typing” all of my friends and myself, now I just use it when thrifting for new clothes).
- I pretty much exclusively get clothes either as gifts or through thrift stores. I sort of really dislike shopping otherwise.
- I take care of myself physically, and keep a simple but effective skincare routine and eat moderately healthy. It stresses me out when things like skincare have too many steps, though.
Do you like kids? Why or why not? - Yeah, I think kids are nice. I appreciate how much potential they have and how good-hearted and imaginative they usually are. That being said, I don’t always find them particularly interesting, so I guess more of a generally benevolent ambivalence from my end.
In what situations or times in your life did you feel most fulfilled, and why? - I’m pretty fulfilled right now, in all honesty. I have work that challenges me but is super interesting and allows (and pays) for lots of travel, I have a loving partner, I have a relatively secure future for the remainder of my PhD programme (minimum four more years).
- I do wish I had a better social circle right now though, but I honestly haven’t put enough effort in to build one (I have two social circles but we’re all busy/inconsistent).

2024.05.15 02:34 Marzetty23 Life is very difficult right now
Just recently got a new job. I had been looking for over a year, and it's the first opportunity presented to me. I'm now only 2 days in and all I can think is I wish I never saw the email and was still jobless..
Trying to finish my AA so I can raise my GPA and pursue a bachelor's and even masters possibly close to full time. However I am low on money because I had not worked since 2022.
I was very overweight and had extreme mental issues. I fixed a lot of the physical stuff, and mental stuff has got slightly better do to bettering my life style and some medical diagnosis, but still not great.
I needed money though. What little I had is all but gone, and my mom has been letting me live at home for free. I spent what little I had on classes, and even then it was not enough for my last spring semester and the current summer one. My mom also assisted with those too.
I feel like such a a freeloader because I was not providing any money to myself, nor her and she was letting me live here for free and eat her groceries. It disgusted me, but I was in such a rough position working a job was impossible for me.
Now I got this new job. Working in IT for a college specializing in Dental medicine, and I am only 2 days in and hate it. Now a huge reason is because of 2 things outside of the job, and both sort of affecting each other.
1.) my exercise routine. I was biking 100 miles a week and working out 4 days a week on a very religious schedule, and seeing great results. My body fat percent was going down wonderfully, and I felt amazing health wise. Now I cannot do that unless I want to sleep less than 8 hours a night, which is already hard for me to get, especially because of my extreme anxiety and depressive issues. 2.) school. I am still 21 credit hours away from finishing my AA. I am currently taking pre calc, math being a subject I am very not good at, and I have almost no time to do it. I come home from work, and immediately heat up food and sit down to try and get in a lecture and finish homework, and I barely get it done. I have no time to workout or ride my bike or any exercise after work because it takes me all of my time to heat up dinner, prepare lunch for the next day, clean what needs cleaned, shower and do all the pre calc that needs done.
I am terrified the mental progress I have made is going out the door, as well as the physical fitness, and I'm scared I will fail precalculus lowering my GPA and forcing me to retake it. (Also wasting 500 bucks).
On top of all of that, the job has been nuts. I am 2 days in, and already my entire department seems to hate life. The IT director constantly jokes about firing people and us, all the people underneath him talk shit about each other, there is 0 onboarding process for a new hire, and I'm already doing so many projects I have had to skip lunch, and then get asked by 5 different hr people why I skipped lunch. They tell me to stay and do work and then ask me why I'm still here. I am also being told that as an hourly employee only supposed to work Monday through Friday, that June 2nd I have to work all day Sunday for the students graduation even though I have an exam due that night. So not only am I just out of the blue being forced to work a 6th day that week, but I have to come home and immediately take a pre calc test I will most likely be barley prepared for.
My mom tells me " if you think you need tutoring you should do it" like when the hell am I supposed to have time for that ?? I don't even have time to do anything else.
This is the first week on the job, I will be lucky if I finish all of my homework before Friday when it's do, and even then, I have an exam this Sunday already and will probably have to spend the entire day Saturday and Sunday preparing for it, and skip any chance and physical exercise, or spend time exercising and risk having to stay up all night and being under prepared.
My anxiety is through the fucking roof. I used to have panic attacks constantly, and luckily I have not reached that point, but I feel like my blood pressure is so high that my veins are about to Burst.
I mean I'm 2 fucking days in... How am I supposed to do this for the rest of precalculus. I mean honestly if I make it through this class and pass it I don't think any other class will lose a threat, but it's just insane...
Idk how people do this. I don't get why our society makes it impossible for people to find a job and work hard and have that job make time for school. I have to deal with corporate ass holes who want me to work to the bone just so I can afford to fail my classes... Like what the fuck.
I felt horrible being in the situation I was in not providing any money to myself or my mom... But fuck I want to literally blow my brains out now. Maybe it will get more relaxed, but I can't see that happening whatsoever until I get deeper into precalculus and see if i will even pass it ..
I have 0 people to count on too. No one is supportive whatsoever. No one to hug, or get reassurance from. My mom just says this is how it is and doesn't care. I can't talk to a therapist because anytime I say anything more than I'm sad they want to lock me in a psych ward because no one gives a rats ass about mental health in Florida, or America. I have no friends in real life within 500 miles of me. It's just me.
Idk what to do. Idk what to believe in. Idk how to calm myself, or cope. I can't do any of the things that we're making my life better.
The one thing I have still going strong is diet. I also wake up with enough time before work to at least go on a quick jog before I get ready and leave, but it isn't enough.
I feel like If I can't find some sort of relief or balance I'm going to be right back to crying and panic attacks In the bathroom in a matter of weeks.
I honestly hate life. I wish I could go back to younger me and tell him to sweat blood trying to get into a university with full scholarships so I could pursue The education I dream of full time and find a job I truly enjoy. That is still my long term goal, but I feel like I'm killing myself to get there.
I know so many people do stuff like this and make it though, but so all of those people have decades of issues with major anxiety and depression? Have they all thought about suicide since they were 13 ?
Maybe they have, but for fucks sakes if they have can they at least hug me or just reassure me everything will be okay ???
Because life is very difficult right now.
Also I typed this on my phone, so if some words seem out of place, I probably missed a letter here or there and phone auto corrected.

2024.05.15 02:31 Big-Mission7051 Looking for some training advice for injury proofing and strengthening for my sports
My primary hobbies throughout the year are downhill skiing and rock climbing, mostly bouldering. And I have recently started running aswell. As of right now my goals with training are to prevent injury and strengthen my muscles. I would eventually like to shift towards hypertrophy training for a while, but for now injury prevention is my main focus.
After long days of skiing and in my recent running sessions my knees are the first thing to get sore/fatigued. During running my calves also tend to get sore quite quickly.
As far as climbing goes, I occasionally get some elbow pain when I have an intense day or week or climbing, but nothing to extreme.
Months ago I suffered a hamstring injury pulling a heel hook bouldering, and saw a PT a few weeks later. I also spoke to him about my elbows. He recommended me RDLs, single leg RDLs, and good mornings. For my elbows he recommended me reverse grip curls and hammer curls.
I have done the knees over toes program on and off in the past, and I have recently started it up again.
Right now my routine look like this:
MWF: (no extra lifting on Friday just zero)
Lower body zero, 3x6-10 deep back squat (added in because I enjoy them and would like to get stronger here), 3x10 RDL, 3x10 single leg hamstring curl or RDL, 3x10 body weight reverse hyperextension,
TT:
Upper body zero, 3x10 reverse grip curl, 3x10 hammer curl,
And I run/climb/ski when I have the energy too, before my workouts. I run and climb about 3-4 times a week right now, and the ski season is ending here soon so I’m skiing 1-2 times a week as opposed to 4-6 times peak season.
As I said previously my main focus right now is to prevent injuries and make my sports for enjoyable. I really enjoy my leg day and feel it meets my needs well, though I feel my core and upper body isn’t really getting enough attention, and or my routine could be more refined here. Curious as to what you all might recommend for me to try.
Should I back down to just KOT? Should continue what I’m doing or add/change some movements?
Thanks!

2024.05.15 02:12 Coyote_Havoc Gallóglaigh: Name and Rank
Cease-fire (noun) a temporary pause during hostilities where peace is discussed and fresh troops are tactically deployed to gain the upper hand when hostilities resume.
"Does she have a sister?"
The human body, in a fight-or-flight situation, will send signals to increase oxygen resulting in the widening of the blood vessels to allow a greater flow of blood indicated by the reddening of Robert's face. This wasn't the first time someone asked either. Derrick was the first person to notice that Robert had not returned to his bunk and, spurred on by curiosity mixed with a touch of fear, a search party was organized. Robert had been observed exiting Sorcha's quarters, receiving a passionate kiss as he left, and entered the bay to a round of cheering and lewd comments.
"It just sort of.... happened." Robert replied under his breath.
"Calm down Rob im just picking at you, nobody expected you to move so fast is all." Jacob commented.
"I didn't... She... its kind of a blur. "Robert tried to explain.
"She... at you?" Hobbs asked. "Well... Now I really want to know."
"Get the men to chow," Robert ordered. "I need a shower."
"Cold showers are a myth Robert!" Hobbs called after him.
/////
"It will take a couple days at our fastest speed, but we will get you there." Captain Blanchard answered.
"I don't doubt you Captain," Robert replied, "I'm just curious how long we have aboard. Do you have a cargo bay we can use for training?"
"What kind of training did you have in mind Colonel?" Captain Blanchard inquired.
"Marksmanship and movement drills if possible, hip pocket training if not, and we could all use some exercise if anything." Robert replied.
"We do have access to the gym Rob," Thomas pointed out, "and a workout rotation has already been created."
"Thank you for reminding me," Robert replied, "and thank you for making that happen. I'll find an open time for myself after breakfast."
"Derrick made the schedule yesterday when we was at dinner." Jacob commented.
Robert raised an eyebrow at that. Derrick was good in a fight, he knocking out a diplomat before telling the parole board off if Robert remembered correctly, but it wasn't like him to take initiative.
"Another matter if I may." Captain Blanchard began. "I know all of you are very fond of Robert and would follow him to hell and back if he ordered it, but it would be best if you started addressing each other properly. For instance, Robert holds the rank of Colonel and should be addressed as 'Sir' or Colonel Grant. It's a common military practice with a millennium of tradition behind it. Lower officer ranks should also be addressed in the same fashion accordingly. Since you have time to train, military bearing should also be part of that."
"Good point Sir." Robert replied.
Captain Blanchard smiled a little at Robert. "You and I have an equivalent rank so rank and last name is all that would be required."
"So I'd be Captain Hobbs or sir?" Hobbs asked.
"Last name." Robert interjected.
"Hobbs is my last name sir." Hobbs replied.
"What's your first name?" Jacob asked.
"First names the reason I go by my last name." Hobbs replied.
"Which is..." Robert pressed.
Hobbs tried to melt into the dining room chair. "Any you laugh we gonna have words later." Hobbs said.
Nobody was impressed by the empty threat.
"My daddy liked to read a lot, old books mostly, stuff from way back. He'd even read them to me after I came along, and he told me he named me Cy after one of his favorite people."
"Captain Hobbs," Captain Blanchard said with a smile, "Cy is short for Cyrus, the name of several emperors in ancient Persia."
Hobbs nodded.
"I know that sir, and thanks for not laughing, but I wasn't named after a king, my full first name is Cyrano."
"How big was his..." Robert started to ask, but decided to change the subject due to the look on Hobbs' face.
"Can we use the gym for battle drills?" Robert asked instead.
"Yes, of course." Captain Blanchard replied a little too quickly.
The rest of Breakfast was finished in silence.

"Like Cyrano De Bergerac?" Derrick asked quietly.
"Yeah." Robert replied.
"His nose ain't that big." Derrick commented.
"That's not what I wanted to talk about, I heard you made the schedule for the Gym rotation." Robert said, changing the subject.
"Yeah... yes sir." Derrick replied. "There's a space for you already written in."
"Thanks but I was curious as to why?" Robert asked.
"Seemed like a good idea, just like a lot of the other stuff I've been doing." Derrick said.
"Yeah, your name came up a few times about work rotation as well, and I wanted to make sure you were okay with handling that for me." Robert said.
"No problem Sir, it's just something I started doing." Derrick said offhandedly.
"Good to hear," Robert replied, handing him a small envelope.
"What's this Sir?" Derrick asked.
"You're compensation Captain." Robert replied with a smile.
Derrick's eyes widened in shock, just as Robert had expected. His days of pretending to slack off while making sure everyone was taken care of were over, and Derrick knew it.
"We need another Captain, you're it."

2024.05.15 01:39 retrophiliac 35 [F4M] #Vancouver, BC - Looking for my match
Hello there!
I'm an artist wrestling with a pesky creative block, a passionate public speaker, content creator, and advocate/activist who absolutely adores furry felines!
I'm a cozy homebody at heart, but lately, I've been sprinkling in some self-care magic, with weekly counselling sessions and daily workouts. As a veggie lover prioritizing gut health, I'm all about planning outings to keep those anxieties at bay and ensure my mental well-being is tip-top. While I occasionally wander the city streets for a breath of fresh air, you'll usually find me snug as a bug in my comfort zone.
I'm on the lookout for someone who shares my mindset and is all about spreading positivity and making a difference in the world. Mutual support and shared dreams are the keys to my heart, and I'm hoping to find a true partner in all the adventures life throws our way!
When it's time to kick back and relax, you can catch me cozying up with Sister Wives, diving into fascinating documentaries, or giggling along with my favorite YouTube pals like Good Mythical Morning, Try Guys, and Spill Sesh.
With a good chunk of my time dedicated to meetings and speaking engagements, I'm on a mission to sprinkle some sunshine wherever I go and make the world a little brighter!

2024.05.15 01:17 SnooWalruses5076 Workout plan
I am 14 years old and I am going into high school next year. I am undersized and get bodied a lot. I am very intelligent and technical but I get pushed off the ball. I am scared that next year the coaches will see my size and not want me on the team. This summer my goal is to get bigger and stronger. Can anyone make me a workout plan or give me tips. I still want to be agile and have good cardio.
