2024.05.15 13:00 AutoModerator What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), often known as ME/CFS, has a broad spectrum of symptoms that persist a long period. It is determined by basic signs and criteria. Post-exertional malaise (PEM), substantial impairment in capacity to accomplish tasks that were typical before the illness, and sleep issues are some of the key symptoms of Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) .
Orthostatic intolerance (difficulty sitting and standing) and cognitive issues. Long-lasting discomfort and a broad spectrum of body systems are also frequent symptoms.
The reason is unknown, however it might be due to metabolic, genetic, viral, or physical or psychological stress. For lack of a universal diagnostic test, the diagnosis is figured by symptoms.
A person with CFS becomes weary from working hard, and it doesn't get better when they rest. Many conditions cause fatigue, but none cause the amount of tiredness and functioning issues found in CFS.
Many individuals with CFS may improve with time, but many will remain unwell and incapacitated for a long period. No authorised therapies or medications for the underlying cause. Instead, treatment aims to alleviate distressing symptoms.
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends pacing (personal activity management) to prevent symptoms from worsening. Some patients may benefit with Rinatolimod (a medication intended for treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome ), psychotherapy, and tailored activity management, however research is limited.
It affects 1% of persons who see their doctor regularly, although the figure fluctuates since epidemiological studies define the disorder differently. According to official estimates, CFS affects 836,000-2.5 million Americans and 250,000-1,250,000 Britons.
Women have CFS at a rate of 1-2% higher than males. Most individuals acquire it between 40 and 60. Even youngsters may be affected. The prevalence of CFS in children is unknown, however it is thought to be about 0.5 percent. One of the most prevalent reasons students miss class is chronic fatigue syndrome.
CFS affects one's health, happiness, and productivity, as well as loneliness and alienation. However, several aspects of the illness remain unclear. Disability is diagnosed and treated by doctors, researchers, and others. The evidence for the causes and therapies isn't always consistent.

Common Symptoms

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) proposes the following diagnostic criteria for unwell people:
While other common symptoms may occur that not all ME/CFS people report
People who have a cold or the flu can have pain in their muscles, joints, and neck or armpits.
People who have a sore throat, irritable bowel syndrome, a cold, or night sweats, as well as people who have allergies and sensitivities to food and other things, can have a hard time breathing.

Functional Capacity of a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Diagnosed Patient

People with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can accomplish many things. Many individuals with CFS live regular lives, while others are bedridden and unable of self-care. Most CFS patients must miss job, school, and family time for a lengthy period.
Men and women have the same symptoms and limitations, and many suffer from severe chronic pain. Inactivity is blamed for this. The complexity of things has also changed.
AIDS causes as much agony and anguish as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, COPD, and end-stage renal failure. Even while major conditions like multiple sclerosis, congestive heart failure, or type 2 diabetes exist, CFS has a greater effect on a person's capacity to function and well-being.
Symptoms go in and out of remission, making treatment difficult. People who feel better may overexert themselves, causing worsening symptoms and relapse of their disease. A percent of persons with CFS are permanently housebound or bedridden for years. An illness that prevents around 75% of them from working.
More over half of them were on disability or sick leave, and just a fifth worked full-time. Children with CFS are the major cause for absenteeism.
The quality-of-life questionnaire found that patients with CFS had reduced "vitality," "physical functioning," "general health," "physical role," and "social functioning." However, CFS patients' "role emotional" and "mental health" subscales were identical to or slightly lower than healthy people's. Every year, the US spends a lot of money on healthcare.

Cognitive Dysfunction of a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Diagnosed Patient

Cognitive Dysfunction is one of the most devastating aspects of CFS, affecting people's ability to work and interact. It's estimated that 50-80% of CFS sufferers experience cognitive issues. Problems with attention, memory, and reaction time are typical cognitive symptoms.
Measured cognitive abilities are lacking, which may impair everyday living. For example, they make more errors, forget things, and have problems responding when spoken to.
In addition, activities requiring long-term working memory are slower. These defects generally support up the patient's views. As far as I can see, your ability to move swiftly, think clearly, and talk clearly hasn't altered.
People with poor health were more likely to report cognitive issues. People with CFS who could accomplish more physically had less visual perception and language processing issues.
Several reasons may be at play when it comes to disparities between what individuals claim they are and what they really are. It's difficult to compare participants' cognitive capacities before and after illness since there aren't any measures that accurately evaluate CFS's distinctive cognitive impairments.
CFS patients have higher neuropsychiatric and cognitive symptoms than non-CFS patients. The cause is unclear. Many theories exist to explain why cognitive symptoms and illness coexist.
Some experts believe psychological factors contribute to or cause the disease. Others believe the sickness generates physiological and social changes that manifest as symptoms.

Therapies Known to Have Worked with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The CDC says talking to a therapist may help patients cope with their conditions. Counseling and behavioural treatments may benefit some patients, but they may not enhance their quality of life, according to a 2015 NIH analysis.
This means that these treatments should not be utilised alone, but rather as part of a larger strategy. The same article claims that therapy may help with weariness, function, and overall improvement. However, these methods have been understudied in several CFS patient subgroups. Those who had psychotherapy or behavioral treatment reported few unpleasant side effects.
IOM 2015 study indicates it's unclear whether Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) assists persons with cognitive disorders. It's unclear why CBT is used to help patients feel better about their illness. A 2014 research found little indication that CBT participants were more active.
The authors claim that those who received CBT were adjusting to the condition rather than improving.
Patient organisations have long opposed CBT as a CFS treatment. Also questioned is the model's explanation The MEA studied 493 CBT patients in the UK in 2012.
Due to the findings of this research, the MEA concluded in 2015 that CBT should not be the principal therapy for CFS. There's a "false model of causality," says Dr. Charles Shepherd, a MEA medical adviser. This paradigm ignores the wide range of clinical manifestations and illness processes that fall within the ME/CFS umbrella.
A 2019 research of ME/CFS patients in the UK revealed that CBT didn't help for over half of them, and that Graded Exercise Therapy made most individuals worse.

2024.05.15 12:27 Butternutbiscuit2 How to generate a region_x_period granular time dimensional FE for use in twowayfeweights

Hello,
I am trying to run the TWFE decomposition using the twowayfeweights package by de Chaisemartin & D’Haultfoeuille. My original TWFE regressions I estimated with reghdfe . In these TWFE regression I define the time fixed effects at geographical levels of a national dataset. As an example:
reghdfe log_employment log_wage control_variables, absorb(county censusdivision#period) vce(cluster state)
The time dimensional effects are calculated within each census division. Now I want to decompose the weights of this regression using twowayfeweights however this package does not allow for interactions on the time FE, so I'd have to generate it as a new variable in my dataset. Here's an example:
twowayfeweights log_employment county TIME_FIXED_EFFECT_HERE log_wage, type(feTR) controls(control_variables) summary_measures
I looked at a vinette on Chaisemartin github using twowayfeweights where the dataset includes a state_x_year time FE, but I was unsure how they actually generated this variable, and how it works. For example the state_x_year FE goes from 1 to 44 when the state is Alabama, but when the state is Arizona it jumps up to something like 96 to 139. Anyway the pattern isn't very clear and I want to make sure I'm generating the geograpical level time FE correctly.
Anyone have any guidance? Thanks!

The healthcare industry is continually seeking innovative ways to improve patient care, streamline operations, and enhance overall efficiency. One of the most promising technologies to emerge in recent years is Augmented Reality (AR). By overlaying digital information onto the physical world, AR provides a powerful tool for various applications within hospitals. In this blog post, we’ll explore how AR is revolutionizing hospital navigation, improving patient experiences, and enhancing the efficiency of healthcare providers.

Navigating Complex Hospital Layouts

Hospitals are often sprawling, complex structures with multiple floors, wings, and specialized departments. For patients and visitors, navigating these labyrinthine layouts can be a daunting task, leading to stress, delays, and missed appointments. AR navigation solutions are changing the game by providing intuitive, real-time wayfinding assistance.
AR navigation apps use the camera on a smartphone or a wearable device to overlay directional arrows, route lines, and other guiding elements directly onto the real-world view. Users can easily follow these visual cues to their destinations without needing to decipher static maps or ask for directions. This technology not only improves the patient and visitor experience but also reduces the burden on hospital staff who are frequently asked for directions.
Read more: Integrating Location Technology: A Game-Changer for Business Growth

Enhancing Patient Experience

The patient journey within a hospital can be overwhelming, especially for those who are already dealing with health concerns. AR technology can significantly enhance the patient experience by providing clear, interactive guidance from the moment they enter the facility.
Personalized Navigation: AR can offer personalized navigation routes based on the patient’s appointments and specific needs. For instance, a patient visiting multiple departments can receive a tailored route that minimizes walking distance and wait times.
Information Overlays: AR can display relevant information as patients navigate the hospital. For example, when approaching a department, patients can see details about their appointment, estimated wait times, or even educational content about their medical condition.
Accessibility: AR navigation can include features for visually impaired patients, such as audio prompts and high-contrast visual guides, making the hospital environment more accessible to everyone.

Streamlining Healthcare Provider Operations

Healthcare providers also benefit from AR navigation technology. By reducing the time spent giving directions and assisting lost patients, hospital staff can focus more on their primary duties, improving overall efficiency and patient care.
Efficient Resource Allocation: With AR, hospital administrators can better understand and manage the flow of patients and visitors within the facility. This data can inform decisions about resource allocation, staffing, and space utilization.
Training and Orientation: AR can be used to train new staff by providing interactive, guided tours of the hospital. New employees can familiarize themselves with the facility quickly and efficiently, reducing the learning curve.
Emergency Response: In emergencies, every second counts. AR navigation can provide real-time guidance to emergency responders, helping them reach critical areas like trauma centers or operating rooms without delay. This capability can be particularly valuable in large hospitals where navigation can be challenging under pressure.

Future Innovations and Applications

The potential applications of AR in healthcare go beyond navigation. Here are a few future innovations that could further transform hospitals:
AR-Assisted Procedures: Surgeons can use AR to overlay critical information, such as patient vitals or 3D models of anatomy, directly onto their field of view during operations. This technology can enhance precision and improve surgical outcomes.
Remote Consultations: AR can facilitate remote consultations by allowing doctors to virtually “visit” patients in different parts of the hospital or even at home. Through AR, doctors can view patient data, interact with medical devices, and provide guidance to on-site caregivers.
Patient Education: AR can be used to educate patients about their conditions and treatments. By visualizing complex medical information in an easily understandable format, patients can make more informed decisions about their care.

Challenges and Considerations

While AR technology holds great promise, there are challenges and considerations that hospitals must address to successfully implement it:
Privacy and Security: Ensuring the privacy and security of patient data is paramount. Hospitals must implement robust security measures to protect sensitive information accessed through AR applications.
Infrastructure Requirements: AR navigation relies on accurate indoor mapping and robust network infrastructure. Hospitals need to invest in the necessary technology and infrastructure to support AR solutions.
User Adoption: For AR technology to be effective, both patients and staff need to be comfortable using it. Hospitals should provide training and support to encourage adoption and address any concerns.

Conclusion

Augmented Reality is poised to revolutionize hospital navigation and many other aspects of healthcare. By providing intuitive, personalized guidance, AR enhances the patient experience, improves accessibility, and streamlines hospital operations. As the technology continues to evolve, its applications will expand, offering even more innovative solutions to the challenges faced by healthcare providers. Embracing AR technology today can set the stage for a more efficient, patient-centric healthcare environment tomorrow.
As hospitals continue to explore and integrate AR technology, they will not only redefine navigation but also pave the way for a broader transformation in how healthcare services are delivered and experienced. The future of healthcare is augmented, and it promises to be brighter, more efficient, and more accessible for all.

2024.05.15 11:52 celvandamn New buyer help Surveyors report

I have just made an offer on a house and need advice on some of the issues that the surveyor has flagged. The house was built in the 1940s. They gave a rating of 1 , 2 or 3 for the issues. 3 being the one with urgent as an Issue , 2 being an Issue but non urgent and 1 not a problem.
These are the urgent issues a rating of 3
D5 Windows
E1 Roof structure
E3 Walls and partitions
E7 Woodwork (for example, staircase and joinery)
F1 Electricity
F2 Gas/oil
F3 Water
F4 Heating
F5 Water heating
G1 Garage
I'm not particuraly worried about the issues from F1 to G1 as from what I read it was mostly to do with Cerfificates and they looked they havent been checked in the past year. Also E7 was just a short railing which can easily be changed. D5 to E3 especially roof structure & wall and partitions.
E1 Roof structure Issue: "There is mortar torching to the underside of the roof tiling. Torching is intended to prevent driving rain and snow from entering the roof void. However, at least some of the torching has perished and this causing a significant amount of sand and dust to fall within the roof void. Part of the roof void has been covered with what appears to be a non-breathable sarking felt. This has been improperly installed over the top of the timber battens, allowing and moisture caught by the felt to penetrate the timber causing rot. Condition rating 3. the felt should be removed and the timber inspected by a specialist"
Does this seems like a big issue ? Anyone had experience of this ?
E3 Walls and partitions: "There was sporadic low and high readings along the side and rear internal wall that may be an indication of the Damp Proof Course (DPC) has started to fail or it could be as a result of condensation from poor heating/ventilation. Condition rating 3. This requires further investigation."
Does this seem worrying to you ? Is this expected in most houses ?
D5 Windows: "There is a timber framed single glazed window between the kitchen and conservatory. This would have original been an external window and appears to have now been painted shut. There was no visible safety stamp to the glazing. Where there is no visible safety stamp it is unlikely that safety glass has been installed. Condition rating 3. In the interest of your safety we recommend the glazing is replaced now."
Do you consider this to be as series as the what surveyor says ?
There were 14 flagged as 2
D1 Chimney stacks
D2 Roof coverings
D3 Rainwater pipes and gutters
D4 Main walls D6 Outside doors (including patio doors)
D7 Conservatory and porches
D8 Other joinery and finishes
E2 Ceilings E4 Floors
E5 Fireplaces, chimney breast and flues
E6 Built-in fittings (built-in kitchen and other fittings, not including appliances)
E8 Bathroom fittings
E9 Other
F6 Drainage
Do you think any rated as a 2 that I should particuraly worry about ?

2024.05.15 10:57 Red-BenCharm024 Flat Roof, Building Leaks Leasehold

I have been fighting the Management Company ever since I bought the Flat for 20 years. The flat roof leaks and the front of the building has bricks missing so also get dirty rain water ingress around windows, all over front wall & along the party walls. Management has put off replacing the roof for years, says he has done repairs. He is sending out a Section 20 along with estimates of costs & what we will have to pay. I got independent quotes from 3 Roofers & a new roof with insulation will cost approx £27000. Management has ignored the quotes I sent in & says he is getting his own (cowboys) in. I say the repairs/new roof should come out of the Buildings Insurance I've been paying for 20+years and the 'Sinking Fund' although the Management said there is nothing in that Fund. The building has not been maintained or repainted (once only) in 20+years What is legally right? Who pays? I can't tell you what state the inside of my flat is like with mould, damp, wallpaper hanging off, plaster soaking wet & crumbling etc etc I'm 78 years old and I need to live in a warm watertight building! I have lodged a formal complaint of the Management Company with the Redress Scheme. Have had no reply by the deadline

2024.05.15 10:08 Subject_Direction23 Best ways to deflect narcissist dad's negative energy?

Tl;dr: My dad is an abusive narcissist who always thrives on holding people hostage to his moods. We all live in different cities now so when we get together it's a special occasion that everyone wants to enjoy. He loves this type of situation because then he can act stone-faced and bring up beefs he has with people. He knows that's the best way to get what he wants because everyone else just wants to enjoy themselves. Like a toddler, he knows he has the power to ruin things for everyone. I have an upcoming trip to my sister's house (and my parents will both be there) and I am trying my best to prepare myself to break this cycle. I'd love your advice and examples of how you've shut this BS down!
For additional context, my dad was physically and emotionally abusive to our mom and us throughout our childhood. In the past decade, I've been getting a lot of therapy and distancing myself. In the past 6 years, my siblings also finally stopped talking to him (due to him shunning one of them and being very emotionally abusive to another). When that happened, he got desperate and eventually agreed to family therapy. It wasn't helpful because he spent the entire time ranting about his own victimhood and trying to gaslight everyone. However, despite that, my siblings and I were willing to move past things because there are parts of us that care about him but more importantly, want to spend time with our mom. She is traumatizing in her own way - she sticks by him and leans on us from a young age to protect her. But I feel a lot of compassion for her and guilt when we don't get to see her due to our issues with our dad.
Anyhow, even after all those years of not talking to his kids, he's ready to start fights with us again. (Or at least one of us at a time, which is his move). Apparently, he is pissed off because I haven't visited them at home yet (after the years of not talking). I got the sense from Facetiming my parents and then my sister confirmed she thinks he's starting something with me. I start fuming, thinking how dare he feels so entitled when we are already being so forgiving and letting the past go and trying to move forward. Anyway, before long, my sister and I realize we are sucked back into the toxic dynamic where we are already dreading his mood and dreading what it'll do during the long weekend visit that we were previously looking forward to. I realize that his classic move is to get everyone in his orbit / under the same roof / in the same physical space as him and then let his moods be known until people have to deal with what it is he wants from everyone.
Sorry for the long rant but I'd love to know how people would deal with this. I've been doing a lot of work on my mental health and wouldn't be interacting with them if I didn't feel like I could handle it. I know there's parts of me that want connection to my mom and to some extent, my dad. My therapist encourages me to try this out since I expressed an interest. She says I should just not receive things that I don't want. "Say no thank you" to his bad energy, attempts to hurt, manipulate, etc. I like that in concept a lot but would love advice. I want to see my mom and I also want to enjoy my time with my sister and her kids. How do I do that while my dad does his best to be a tyrant/baby who tries to ruin the mood and day of everyone around him? Thank you in advance everyone.

2024.05.15 10:03 AlternativeUnit5662 Anna Weyant loosing her popularity?

I just checked Sothebys auction page and the last work (oil on panel, 60x90 cm) was sold for 50k (while even the estimation was 80-100k) when the previous selling prices (last year) were wayyy more impressive. For example, Flora Yukhnovich or Ewa Juszkiewicz has stable prices in auctions sales. How do you think what is happening? By the way-is she still dating Larry Gagosian?

2024.05.15 09:46 gerald1 Example of dialogue recorded in a warehouse while it is raining

Hey there sound recordists,
I've got a shoot coming up in a warehouse/factory and it looks like it will be raining on the day.
I want to test out some noise reduction before the shoot so I can let the client know what is possible in post.
I was wondering if anyone has some examples of interview/dialogue recorded in a warehouse while it is raining on the metal roof? All the machines will be turned off so really the rain is my main issue.
The plan is to boom with an NTG3 but I'm guessing I'll be relying on the cos11d due to the reverb and rain.
If anyone has any tips for this situation I'm all ears, and if you've got any audio I could play with I'd be super appreciative!
Thanks

2024.05.15 07:27 holisticlife5500 Airfare Secrets for Scoring the Cheapest Flights

"Golden rules" about buying cheap flights, like booking domestic flights 57 days before the departure date, are no longer valid, as there has been a huge shift in the travel industry in what days were thought the cheapest to booking flights. If a study has not been conducted recently, or only one year ago, do not put too much faith in it; there's no reason to worry about booking a flight far in advance. The stellar tips below are current.
Check airlines which don't appear on 3rd party websitesOne of the major weaknesses of Internet search engines is that they frequently will not display the flights of all airlines such as Southwest, Frontier, and Allegiant. To solve this problem, use a free resource like Wikipedia to learn which of these airlines operates a certain airport. Visit Wikipedia, go to their airport page, and search for a section called "Airlines and destinations." You are advised to locate a list of each airline that flies to that airport as well as all the nonstop destinations that airport operates. So, once you become aware of any carriers which did not show up in your first searches, you could now look for flights straight on the airlines' sites.Search one-way & round-trip flightsOnce upon a time the majority of round-trip flights were cheaper than booking two one-way airfare flights. That's no longer the situation today. For instance, Southwest and Jetblue set their prices for their flights on a one-way basis; and a round-trip flight is only the sum of the 2 one-way rates. So, you'll want to check one-way flight rates to ensure you buy the best round-trip deal by pairing two one-way flight tickets, probably on two different carriers.Look for one seat at a timeThere exists a virtually unknown quirk in how carriers price seats which could result in greater prices if searching for many passengers as opposed to a single ticket. Airlines put their inventory in fare classes, or called buckets, which are not always obviously visible to customers. For instance, there may be just three seats left in a fare bucket for $300 each, and the next higher bucket may be $400 for each ticket. But, if you happen to look for four seats, each one would end up falling into the $400 fare bucket.Search alternate airportsAt times the cost of a certain flight is extremely high that it could be a good idea to use your second or even third choice of airports. For instance, you perhaps are aware of the New York area's 3 biggest airports: New York-JFK, Newark (EWR), and New York-LaGuardia. But did you know that Stewart (SWF), Westchester (HPN), and Long Island McArthur (ISP) are also in the region? Several airlines permit you to look for all airports in a region by just specifying the destination as the city itself rather than a certain airport. The ITA Matrix tool is also a great way to look for close by if you do not know the area too well, and Google Flights offers a "Nearby airports" option to assist in this search, too.Don't always travel directBeing flexible with your route you'll be flying is another way to find a cheap flight. For instance, at times it's cheaper to travel to London and use a budget airline to Amsterdam instead of flying directly to Amsterdam from the actual departure city.To utilize this approach, learn how much it costs to fly directly to the target destination. Next, open Google Flights, type in the destination's details like country name to see the rates to nearby airports. If the difference happens to exceed $150 dollars, find out how much it actually is to fly from the 2nd airport to the main destination.Leverage elite statusAlthough having elite status will not allow you to book flights at a discount, you still could use it to save money another way. But with elite status with the majority of airlines let you to standby for earlier flights or perform same-day verified flight modifications. This can permit you to buy a discounted airline flight at an awful time, only to modify it to the flight you really want but at no extra charge. Even without elite status, the charge to standby or make a same-day verified flight modification might be less than the airfare difference between the flight you truly want and the lowest option that day.Use the correct credit cardThe right credit card may very well provide you major savings on flight tickets in a number of various ways. For instance, The Platinum Card from American Express now offers 5x points on all airline bookings made directly with the carrier or with Amex travel, worth 10 cents each dollar spent, based on TPG's recent valuations. That card in addition offers the International Airfare Program, providing cardholders discounts for premium class flights on certain airlines.Search for free hotels and stopover toursWhenever an airline imposes a lengthy layover because of its very tight schedule, the airline will usually offer a free STPC, or stopover paid by carrier, which can include a free tour or hotel room as well.
Don't mind the mythsThe initial and main fact to know whenever locating a cheap flight is there exists no magic trick for achieving this objective. There are however a ton of myths floating online about certain ways to seek cheap flights. Without doubt, you must have run into a lot of them while searching for the best flight deals.Airline companies use advanced technology like computers and pricing algorithms for determining flight prices and offer deals based on various factors like time of the year, weather, time of day, passenger demand, fuel prices, competitor prices, and others. These myths and similar ones will lead you astray. Be flexible in respect to your travel times & datesAirline flight rates vary a lot depending on upcoming holidays, day of the week, and time of the year. August is a major month for flying to Europe, and plenty of people are planning to travel somewhere hot during winter or fly while the kids are taking a break from school. In summation, if you're traveling when everyone is also flying, then logically your flight price will be higher.Flexibility is everything for cheap plane tickets & cheap flight dealsThe more flexible you are, you'll get better cheap flight deals you can book. Here's a new way of doing things: Instead of deciding where to go next, choosing dates, and then searching for the cheap plane tickets to certain destinations on those particular dates, consider first selecting your destination and dates based on the best going deals available. By exercising greater flexibility where you travel and the specific dates you fly, you will have a far better opportunity to find cheaper airfare.Book first, think later for cheap flight finder cancellationTake complete advantage of the free 24-hour cancellation window while purchasing flights. Because of the Department of Transportation's strict regulations, any cheap flight booked to or from the United States could be canceled without worry of incurring a penalty, for 24 hours after the flight's reservation; it must be booked no less than one week before the flight's departure. Yes, it's a very good idea to use a cheap flight finder these days. What this means is that if you buy a flight and the ticket price drops within 24 hour window, you could cancel the original flight and purchase the new, less expensive one.Warning: the 24-hour rule can only work for flights directly bought with the airline or with booking engines such as Priceline.Set a price alert for all cheap flight ticketsYou can choose emails or push notices to your cell phone which will tell you exactly when the flight you are interested in has increased or decreased in price. This may be a great way for getting the best possible price on all cheap flight tickets in the near future. You can do this on the majority of search travel sites and OTAs. Why miss out on potential easy savings? You can then always locate flight tickets cheap when you need them.Buy in foreign currency to get cheap flight ticketBecause regular fliers travel abroad now and then, you could switch the currency on the airline's website to determine if the price would be listed in other monies. You can save big this way. For example, if an airline increased the flight price in US dollars but not in Indian rupee, you could book flights at half the price! But this may require altering either the location or language on the airline's website; or you may change to the home country's URL, where ticket prices are generally cheapest by searching in its local currency. This is how you can in fact find cheap flight ticket to wherever you like to travel.Sign up for an airline's travel rewards credit card for cheap flight bookingOne of the smartest ways to take full advantage from travel credit cards is to use the hefty sign-up bonuses. For example, if you sign up for a new travel card when the airline is offering unusually high quantity of bonus miles, you could score yourself literally thousands of dollars worth of reward points by just opening the card.Although several of these travel cards could have higher annual fees, a big sign-up bonus may amount for months or even years worth of cheap flight booking for you and your whole family. The cheapest day to book flightsEven though you might see great deals flashing on your computer screen for international airfare three to six months out, if you are flying during peak times, or perhaps your plans are not very flexible, it's smart to begin searching sooner. The cheapest day to book flights actually evades many flyers. This does not automatically mean you ought to purchase tickets when hitting the 6-month window; hold on till you book cheap flights online. And, just ignore the old advice that travel experts often repeat regarding booking the cheapest flights at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday; that used to be true but now airfare prices are updated often and great deals could pop up any given moment when least expected. So, now you can secure a flight cheap most of the time.Utilize momondo to book cheap flight air ticketsUpon finding what you imagine to be the cheapest flight wherever, try searching on Momondo; it will search dozens of OTAs; bear in mind that it may not display the cheapest fares seen on large OTAs and Google Flights. But you got a greater chance to find cheap air tickets sooner this way. Otherwise, only one cheap air ticket may be attained, if tried another manner. Now you too can enjoy when you book cheap flight tickets when you need them.Fly cheap during the low seasonHave you ever scanned flight prices from the USA to Europe's insanely popular cities in August? Surpassing quite easily $1000.00, they can frighten seasoned and expert travelers alike. But are those the same ticket prices in February? So, fly cheap from major hubs in USA to Europe, you could often locate roundtrip flights throughout the winter months for less than $400 or even $300!Fly basic economy for cheap air flightsA basic economy flight ticket could save you money, if you do not require checked luggage or advance seat selection. Pay only for what you need. In theory, you'll achieve cheap air flights via this option.Enroll in the airline's loyalty program for cheap airfareIf you fly one particular airline often, join its loyalty program in order to earn points each time you go anywhere. Then, you can redeem such points for upgrades or cheap airfare in the future. If you accumulate enough miles and achieve a considerable status with the airline, you might receive free upgrades. Now, you can take fuller advantage of cheap air fare whenever you require it.Skiplag to discover hidden-city cheap airfares & last minute flightsHidden-city ticketing happens by booking a flight to a place beyond your final destination, and then end your flight on the layover city. This could help you in getting cheap airfares as well as best last minute flights to most destinations. Think about it: can you imagine a better, more creative way to book cheap air fares while searching the Internet?Prolong your layovers for cheapest flight ticketsSometimes only by extending a layover a few days in another city in-between, you can score cheapest flight tickets to your original destination. In conclusion, more often than not, you'll usually find the cheapest flight ticket by following this method consistently. Why not? A lot of people are discovering that they are by accident getting the cheapest flight via the extended layovers.Don't overlook sales for cheapest flight bookingAirlines are frequently offering amazing deals which you may jump on fast enough and save yourself hundreds of dollars on your next flight. Sign up for your favorite airline's newsletter to be on top of their latest flight deals. This is yet another way to know about the cheapest flight booking that becomes available whenever.Focus on going across the ocean for cheap fly ticketsIf you are thinking to visit a distant location, it could be less expensive to book one ticket to the main hub, and then a second ticket from there to your final destination. For example, if you wish to fly to Alhambra, Spain, it's probably cheaper to book one roundtrip flight from your home to Madrid and a second roundtrip ticket from Madrid to Alhambra than it would be to buy a ticket to Alhambra on one itinerary. In essence, you'll end up with cheap fly tickets by following the above example.Don't overlook destinations with low cost carriers to get cheapest flightsCarriers such as Frontier, AirTran, and Southwest all drive down airfares along their routes. So, it may be quite wise to travel a bit longer to a larger airport with low-cost carriers, because even major carriers flights will most likely be cheaper. Using this method regularly, you are more likely to find the cheapest flights to most if not all your destinations. Why not take advantage of low cost flights whenever possible?Avoid Friday, Sunday flights, & traditional air travel daysThis may mean going away before and returning later than usual, or even flying exactly on the holiday. Pelletier, the air travel specialist, says you can save up to 50% by simply flying Christmas Eve or Day. She said: "We saved $300 per ticket around Thanksgiving for our family of four by flying out the Saturday before Thanksgiving and coming back the Saturday after. Not everyone can swing that with their work schedules, so my advice is to leave Thanksgiving day and return on Saturday for cheaper fares."Begin with a reputable flight search engine to find cheapest international flightsWhile searching for a flight, the initial thing you will wish to do is determine which airlines run a certain route and get an estimated price on the biggest carriers. Opposed to individually visiting all of these airlines' sites, begin by looking for a website which will provide results from many airlines and different combinations of carriers. You may end up with the cheapest international flights this way. So, you could start with Expedia or another such as Orbitz, Hotwire, Travelocity, and Cheap Tickets. Do not ignore Google Flights, which, though a very powerful search engine, know that it's not a booking platform and can't buy a flight ticket there. This is how you could find cheapest flights to many popular locations.Be flexible where you go to book discount flightsIf for some reason or another you cannot be flexible with the time factor of your flight, then try to be flexible with your destinations. It's ideal to be both. However, you still can save a lot of money and book discount flights by being flexible with either factor. You don't have to conduct manual searches, going city by city and day by day. Websites such as Google Flights, Skyscanner, and Momondo provide explore tools and permit you to add your nearest airport and see a world map with all the possible flights on it. This helps you to quickly compare many destinations with no need to brainstorm each potential option.Fly budget airlines/carriersMany years ago, you were generally stuck flying with traditional costly airlines. That's not true anymore. Budget airlines today service both short and medium-haul routes all over the world. For example, AirAsia provides incredible cheap flight deals around Australia and Asia for less than $150 dollars! Indian and Middle Eastern air carriers sell cheap flight tickets throughout Africa and the subcontinent.Book early: how to find the cheapest flightsYou can discover how to find the cheapest flights by booking early. Although flight rates continue climbing the nearer you get to departure, there exists a great spot along the way when airline companies start to reduce or increase flight prices based on demand. Do not wait till the last moment but do not book too far in advance. The ideal time to buy your flight ticket is about 2 to 3 months prior to your departure, or even about 5 months prior if you're flying there in their peak season.

2024.05.15 07:08 schizoid_mary Tile roof replacement cost

Moved into new house in Bayswater VIC two weeks ago and the neighbourhood has an issue with handful of possums that keep coming back after removal.
Anyway, long story short we think they’re able to get inside our roof, so I called a roofer to take a look because there’s no point getting them removed if they can run right back into the same hole (as they have to be released within 50m of where they were removed).
There are no ceiling leaks or stains. The house is under 160m2, concrete stumps, circa late 1960s, very simple black tiled roof, no solar panels to take off, kind of the basic bitch of roof designs.
Roofer has quoted $28k to replace the entire roof, but has not sent through the photos to show the problems.
He strongly recommended not repairing it because they won’t guarantee the work.
If we do repair it, he said I need to get a separate carpenter to fix the eaves, fascia and scotia before they start, and a plumber for some garage roof gaps in flashings, and the repair bill excluding all that would be about $3600, using secondhand tiles that won’t be a colour match.
If $28k is a reasonable estimate, fair enough, but it does seem weird that they haven’t shown any photos of the apparent problems… and I am a bit wary of being overquoted.
Thoughts?

2024.05.15 06:41 slumberous-lass Going to paint the trim on my house

Bought my house 3 years ago and it has a good amount of paint that needs to be removed and redone. I am getting three different estimates from companies this week. I don’t think I want the light blue trim anymore. I’m thinking a dark charcoal grey. Roof is only 6 years old and I’m not changing it or coloring it. Do y’all think a darker trim/ plus garage/ plus windowpanes would look good? If not a dark charcoal, what would you change? ***Last pic is reference pic for idea with the dark color

2024.05.15 06:35 No-Signature551 Renters: Am I imagining how insane this is -could my landlord just be bored?

Hello!
Am I just complaining about first world problems here or is this legitimately getting weird!? TLDR: Landlord is obsessed with our house and keeps booking frivolous "maintenance" - 7 visits already this year.
Before you wonder let me say we are exceptional tenants, pay rent ahead and are clean and quiet. The landlord keeps repeatedly booking "maintenance" on the house. Much of it imo quite frivolous. So far this year we have had 7 visits to the property and the landlord has just booked 2 more jobs for May. This will end up being around 10+ visits in 5 months. Last year I estimate it was somewhere between 12-18 visits. A lot of it was what I would consider non-urgent viewings and "repairs". Don't get me wrong, its amazing the house is being kept in good condition but where exactly is the line?
I'll give you an example of two jobs:
  1. A [thing] needed a minor repair - understandable. It took a total of 5 visits to get that small job done because the landlord wanted to come around and do parts of the job himself (over multiple visits) and some of it was done by contractors.
  2. We have a fixture in our bathroom in absolutely perfect working order and perfectly safe. Landlord decided he wants a new fixture in a new spot- no reason - just because. So we had something like 4 visits from a contractor to try and figure out how to install it into the new spot. Then the job got dropped because landlord changed his mind.
Stuff like this is happening a lot amongst a few required repairs - emphasis on a FEW.
Am I just being entitled or is this getting weird?
I know the landlord is very happy with us, we have been living here for years. he is an elderly landlord, retired, and we have been extremely lucky that the agent and landlord are genuinely nice people. Is he just too financially comfortable and bored - or am I missing something?
Thank you for your opinions!
Edit: I am very grateful to have a caring landlord (I show care in return). But, I also need to be able to work without multiple interruptions. It's genuinely starting to impact my work. Edit: Removed potentially identifying text.

2024.05.15 05:49 Comprehensive_Swim49 Tenant Contribution to split system upgrade?

We’re the tenants and we’ve been investigating a vic govt incentive scheme for houses to be upgraded for a combined electrical heating/cooling system. It would decommission our gas central heater and replace the two AC we have in 2 of our 3 bdrms. Our main interest in this is to get some AC in the north facing living areas, and our kid’s bedroom, as well as to move away from gas, and hopefully save some money.
The minimum is for 3 units and we’re asking for 4.
If the LL says yes, they’re paying $29 a month over 3 years, which is about 6 weeks of our rent, and they’re asking what kind of contribution we’re prepared to make.
So, in figuring out a number: right now, Our electricity costs don’t change much in winter however the gas goes up about $1000. At a conservative estimate, it should be 50% cheaper to heat/cool with the new system, which is about $500 a year saving, $10 a week for us.
We’ve been good tenants for 5 years in an old post-war single-brick house. The central heating unit is very old. Like the thermostat is a little brown box with a lever that moves 5cm across “Off • 20 • 30” and another indicator below that tells you the room temp, roughly. (We joke about spending the money on completing the insulation in the roof, or swapping out the iron framed windows for ones that seal.)
We figure $6 a week for the 3years would mean we should still see a financial benefit, and incidentally covers the extra cost for the 4th unit. (Part of me wants to say zero. It’s extremely common for our living area to be as warmer or warmer than outside during summer - it gets a full-day of uninterrupted sun and sits over an enclosed cavity thanks to being on the north side of a hill, so it heats from underneath, too.)
I know we’re asking about a latte or two worth of money. I guess it’s more of a token of goodwill in the end.
What do you feel would be a reasonable contribution for us to offer?

2024.05.15 05:26 Incman I would love to hear from this subreddit regarding my (actually-this-time-unless-she-changes-) final letter to my nMom.

As the title states, (and despite the existential risk to myself - as I am disabled, impoverished, and my survival is reliant on the room I rent in her attic - given her recent threat to have have me thrown out by the police because she could not handle the feelings she had during the argument that she initiated), I have finally drawn a bright red line in the metaphorical sand regarding her treatment of me. This is the culmination of 8+ years of sustained, one-sided, unreciprocated, and unsuccessful effort on my part to sustain, salvage, repair, or improve our "relationship"

I've learned a lot from the stories and people on this subreddit, and I know if anyone can understand the way that I'm feeling about this it's you guys.

Any input, commentary, criticism, insight, commiseration, etc, is very welcome, and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read it.

Anyways, enough preamble, here's the letter in all of my ridiculously-verbose inglory (the square-bracketed disclaimers, etc, were part of the letter as delivered to her, since she is selective illiterate whenever there's something she doesn't like):

[START]

[This document begins with a 382 word AI-generated summary (titled "AI- GENERATED SUMMARY:" below the square-bracketed opening remarks), estimated at 1m23s time required to read. If you are unable or unwilling to make it through even this brief summary, then there is literally nothing else I could possibly do to assist in your comprehension of my positions. The full message following the summary is approximately 2100 words, estimated at approximately 8 minutes to read.]

[If you would like assistance in understanding things I've written that you're struggling to interpret or comprehend, you can go to chatgpt.com (no account necessary), or download the ChatGPT app from the Google Play Store on your phone. You can simply interact with the chat in natural language (in other words, type as though you were texting another person) and it will understand what you are saying. If you are struggling to understand how to interact with it effectively, you can simply inform it of that (in any wording you choose) and it will assist you with altering your approach to receive more effective results.]

AI-GENERATED SUMMARY:

Your son's message is a powerful declaration of his boundaries, grievances, and intentions within your relationship. Here's a breakdown to help you understand:

Preface: He advises you to read with an open mind and, if needed, with assistance due to the emotional complexity.

Declaration of Disengagement: He firmly states his decision to disengage from any form of interaction or acknowledgment outside of essential landlord-tenant matters.

Condemnation of Abuse: He accuses you of perpetuating a cycle of abuse that has deeply impacted his health and stability.

Rejection of Coercion: He dismisses the idea that being evicted is a viable solution to the abuse, highlighting the coercive nature of such a choice, and how it leaves him vulnerable to further harm.

Criticism of Your Behavior: He unreservedly condemns your actions, particularly your exploitation and manipulation, emphasizing the gravity and effects of your conduct.

Challenges to Your Claims: He directly confronts your claims regarding his efforts in the relationship, asserting that he has consistently made extensive attempts to maintain it, despite your accusations to the contrary.

Commitment to Compliance: He unequivocally affirms his commitment to compliance with all landlord-related demands, demonstrating his unwavering respect for your authority as the homeowner.

Demand for Clarity: He demands clear and unambiguous knowledge of the requisite terms when any changes to living arrangement paradigms are demanded, underscoring his willingness to comply with any directives you may issue.

Defense Against Gaslighting: He firmly asserts his unwavering commitment to respecting your property and authority, preemptively refuting any attempts to accuse him otherwise.

Insights into Your Behaviour: He offers insights into patterns in your behaviour, linking them to moments of vulnerability or distress in your life.

Call for Self-Reflection: He urges you to seek professional help for your narcissism and unresolved childhood traumas.

Caution Regarding Gravity: He states that failing to address your responsibilities would be a missed opportunity for both of you to salvage the relationship and resolve underlying issues.

Reiteration of Hope: Despite his current stance, he leaves the door open for reconciliation if you undergo necessary personal growth.

Closure on Unequal Effort: He firmly states that he can no longer sustain the one-sided effort in the relationship and won't continue to do so.

It's evident that he's deeply hurt and demanding acknowledgment, change, and resolution in your relationship.

[end of AI-generated summary; my full, non-AI-generated message follows below]

[I recommend that you read this in its entirety at a time and capacity level where your literacy and comprehension are at their highest level, and preferably with the interpretational assistance of a knowledgeable and competent support person or technological assistant.]

[Presumably, after reading a few sentences or less, your defense mechanisms will be activated and you will eject. However, as with the vast majority of the things I have said to you that have gone unacknowledged, I am completely certain that the contents are cogent and comprehensible, and I believe that with competent support and vulnerable effort you undoubtedly have the raw cognitive capacity necessary for comprehension if you are able to stabilize your emotional reactions and put real effort into the actions necessary for you to understand my words.]

I will not talk to you.
I will not look at you.
I will not approach you.
I will not acknowledge you.

If you attempt to interact with me on any interpersonal level not related to your role as a landlord, I will reserve the right to express just how fucking despicable it is to treat such a vulnerable person with such utter disregard and abuse for so fucking long.

The cycle of abuse you have maintained to destabilize me for your own pathological reasons has caused - and continues to cause - extensive damage to my health, stability, and existence. However, since I know your response to this would likely be some variation of "you're not a victim here [my name], so if I treat you so bad, just leave", I'll preemptively and unequivocally condemn such coercive and abusive tactics, and state again (as I did the other day), that the forced choice between your abuse and life-threatening-homelessness is obviously no choice at all, and leaves me perpetually subject to your coercion and abusive control.

Such exploitation by you is absolutely disgusting, and honestly I understand why you run away from yourself at every single instance where you're in danger of having your lifelong house-of-cards ego even slightly threatened. I know if I treated another human being the way you treat me for even a moment, let alone for the literal years you have done so, I would not be able to face myself in the mirror either. You should be fucking ashamed of yourself.

You say I "don't want to be your son anymore", as though it has been someone other than me making hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours of efforts and attempts in order to try and single-handedly keep our relationship alive, and as though it has been someone other than you who has stonewalled me for years about every single legitimate and valid time I attempted to gain even the slightest foothold as a full human being in the owner-pet relationship you have fought so hard to maintain. You siphon, in fact demand, emotional supply whenever you so choose, and then fucking discard me as soon as it appears that I might do anything that would result in you losing even a fraction of a percent of the 99% to 1% imbalance you believe is an immutable part of our "relationship".

I will do my absolute best to be in my room as much as physically possible when you are home, so as to minimize the need to be physically adjacent to you in the course of our respective activities of daily living.

I, again, remain unequivocally committed to my position of deference and compliance towards any rules/demands related to my existence, presence, or activities as your tenant.

As you refuse to provide any sort of unambiguous guidance or clarification whatsoever regarding your shifting demands affecting my ability to access/perform basic activities of daily living, I will continue to act in good faith with respect to my adherence to all previously-established arrangements and protocols (whether codified or de facto) regarding such activities. To the full extent of my abilities, and to the extent that it is physically possible, I will immediately and unequivocally comply with any alterations, additions, or excisions you choose to impose regarding the nature of our physical coexistence as landlord and tenant, regardless of your disregard or intent for any harm to my stability that will ensue as a result.

If you intend to attempt to manipulate or threaten or gaslight me to illegitimately and dishonestly accuse me of failing to comply with your rights and demands as the homeownelandlord, then I can assure you that such efforts will be ineffective and inadvisable. The extensive history of my genuine, documented, and unwavering commitment to absolute respect of your home, property, and landlord-tenant authority is unassailable, and nothing has or will change about the good faith nature of my efforts to simply live peacefully and work on stabilizing my health and continuing to attempt to develop basic protocols that offer me the opportunity to seek the ways and means required to sustainably exist, survive, and seek meaning and fulfilment as a human being.

To try and make it a bit more bite-sized (without warranty as to the efficacy of said efforts), since I know when your ego is threatened you conveniently - and dishonestly - become completely unable to read a couple thousand words:

I love you, and goodbye for now. I hope to see you on the other side, but I cannot force you to undertake the journey.

2024.05.15 04:52 xXsnowXx Making plans for a fence down one side of our long (227ft) driveway. Have a handful of questions. Some may be dumb but hopefully not.

I'm making plans to build a pretty big fence. The first section I'm doing will be 227ft long. We have a certain look we want to achieve, but also trying to keep the costs down where we can. Sketchup examples of the fence I'm planning on building.
There is some fence terminology that I am not familiar with, so please bear with me.
This will be a wooden privacy fence with exposed posts, flat top pickets with a rail on top of the pickets. The ground is pretty level for this section.
I plan on using either 6"x6" or 6"x4" treated posts (we like how the bigger posts look). We want the posts to be taller than the sections of pickets. So, 10ft posts put into the ground the appropriate depth.
Additionally, I plan on having treated posts laying horizontal on the ground between the vertical posts, which the pickets will sit on (we like this look and will give us a little extra height). Is there a name for those horizontal "posts" at the bottom of each section? I see them used quite a bit around my area.
Sketchup examples of the fence I'm planning on building.
For setting posts, we live in a place that never gets below freezing. Wind doesn't seem to be an issue where the fence will be either. That being said, will tamping with gravel be enough? If so, is there a specific gravel that works best? I am having some 3/4 minus delivered soon for another project, would that be good? Should I use different/better drain rock on the bottom of the posts for drainage? I also plan on putting roofing tar on the bottoms of the posts. I've set plenty of posts before, but I still haven't figured out which way I think is best. I've used concrete, foam, and just tamping dirt. I've heard a lot of opinions, but all seem to differ.
For the rails, I plan on using treated 2"x4"s and probably joist hangers. I am also considering pocket holes. Any opinions on this?
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.15 04:41 hmsw R1S Towing a 5000lb camper

Hi, Just wanted to share because I know the towing experience isn’t super common.
We towed a packed 5000lb (according to the tow mode scale) Jay Feather Micro 199mbs with our R1S. The R1S drives like it was meant to tow. Its so powerful. Tow mode is also amazing. I love the trailer breaks are located right in the steering wheel for use vs our old bluetooth trailer breaks we had to use in the past. I love towing with it!
That said, the battery life when towing makes me so, so, sad.
We towed to a campsite 90 miles away from home. When I first started towing and weighed the camper using tow mode, it calculated the battery was capable of about 130 miles. So I thought “I’m going to drive straight there then.” I was annoyed the navigation kept redirecting me to make a charging stop. I figured it was because I set the “minimum miles to arrive on” to 60 miles and I was looking at 40 to arrive on. I didn’t want to stop. I was heading right to a campsite I could charge at so thought 30-40 miles was plenty to arrive on.
I didn’t know how to stop the navigation from redirecting me. It was too distracting to mess with while still driving. So I switched to google maps on my phone and ended Rivian’s navigation. Bad move. While using google maps, I didn’t realize how fast the miles on the battery were dropping. I ended up calling roadside who told me how to turn on/off the charging stops setting in the navigation. Once I had the navigation back on, thats when I realized I would NOT have enough battery to make it to the campsite. No matter what the math [battery level-miles left to the site= a number that kept dropping] told me, the navigation was panicking and I had to call roadside again to make sure someone had eyes on me while I tried to make it.
Towing was definitely NOT 1 mile in the battery = 1 actual mile of driving. I can’t tell you exactly how fast it dropped. But I can say as I made it to the campsite, I witnessed the 1 mile left in my battery drop to 0 miles as I pulled in. So, the 130 mile estimate ended up being around 90 miles give or take.
The ride home was similar except I managed to charge my battery to 95% to start. Which put me at about 170 miles of towing battery that still dropped very quickly. I ended up lost trying to find a charger. So the return trip is not as good of an example of how quickly the battery dropped. But even with 170 miles on my side, I found myself desperate to charge again when a straight path home should have only been 90 miles.
On a side note: the ride home was also my first experience with someone at the end of the charging row, with 4-5 other working chargers open, who outright refused to move to help me out. Most people I come across at chargers are friendly and eager to help.. especially when I can’t be lying about the need! There is a camper to prove it! So, I had to pull directly into a spot with the camper still hitched and awkwardly block the road paralleling the chargers. Everyone had to drive around. But I figured making people drive around was better than pulling in sideways and blocking open chargers. It looked ridiculous!
Plus, on the return trip I learned Electrify America doesn’t like when people charge higher than 80%. It slows charging and “idle fees” kick in. I was told “idle fees” are something like 50 cents per kilowatt. We were able to eat the fees and get to 95% by continuing to charge past the warnings.
Now I know to never take the end charging spot if there are others open!! You never know who may be towing and in desperate need of access to the end charger!!
I am DESPERATE for my tesla supercharger adapter to come in!! We need have more charging options to offset the towing-related battery loss!!
Also, another helpful change could be that rivian offers some kind of “eco mode” for towing. The R1S is so powerful, there were times I didn’t realize how fast I was driving (our previous suv struggled to tow so I always knew its upper limit which was usually comfortably below the speed limit). Tow mode also shuts off regenerative breaking, so it would be nice to have some way to opt into a setting or have a speed to aim for that could help conserve battery.

2024.05.15 04:34 I_love_among_us69 Need some help with school project

Hey guys, I’m currently doing a project in school about our future career path, obviously I’ve chosen the maritime industry, specifically the deck officer path, and I’m currently having some trouble finding examples of the pay offered by various unions. We need to have some sort of proof in the project for the salary estimates for the job we choose, so I was hoping if it’s not to intrusive that some of yall could take a picture or screenshot of some recent job postings for third mates, as I’m assuming that people actually employed in the field have access to more accurate and reliable postings than stuff you find on google. Thank you

2024.05.15 04:20 Enwists How much do I charge?

Hey everyone, my aunt has a rental property (duplex) and she has been having a hard time with maintenance. She sort of rents the property from a landlord but occasionally I’ll come fix stuff here and there.
As time has gone on and more has been needed, she wants to hire me officially and pay me. Ofc it will be by the job, but how do I know what to charge?
For example one thing I have to do in the next couple days is clean the roof and gutters.

2024.05.15 03:54 Due_Locksmith9204 Unacceptable bottom surfaces of PETG print

I have a Creality CR-10 that has been used extensively for the past six years, with an estimated 4000 – 5000 prints. I am about to replace it with a new Creality K1 Max, my printer runs most days.
I’ve played with all of the relevant Support settings individually, but have had no success in finding any solution that will allow me to have a similar finish on the bottom of the print as I have on the top of the print.
My issue is that the bottom side of the prints are extremely rough, and now I need to produce a series of prints that need to be near perfect on all sides. I cannot use a brim to print the brim without supports, because the bottom surfaces of the print are not in direct contact with the buildplate.
All bottom surfaces of the print, that sit on top of the supports coming up from the buildplate, are always extremely rough and often have holes in them. Please refer to the attached images below.
The top and walls of the print are perfect, very clean and I couldn’t in all fairness fault their appearance, however, faces of the print sitting on supports are the issue, there appears to be something wrong with either the top of the support settings, or the initial layer settings of the bottom of the print. Does anyone have any experience with solving this issue?
Regarding the below images, on each occasion I have stopped the printer when the printer had finished printing the supports and the initial layer for the underside recess has progressed part of the way through what I expect to be a perfect floor surface of the recessed bottom of the print.
A second question that I have is “If a setting is hidden in Cura, does that mean that the setting is in fact disabled?”

I am currently using the latest Cura 5.7.1 settings
