2024.05.14 01:46 ZomeKanan all downhill from here

i love reading about Big Stupid Romantic Gestures on /actuallesbians, because I like to picture myself in the stories and dream that one day I'll have a more poetic life. But also because they're usually uplifting and wholesome, and I need more of that in my life.
so it's kinda incredible, really, that I've finally got one of my own to tell.
Few nights ago, I get in from work, and, as usual, i'm dead on my feet. She, meanwhile, is already home, because she's got a normal schedule for normal people. and as soon as I walk in the door, she jumps up off the couch and takes my hand and says I need to follow her. So I drop my bag and my keys, and - feeling a little panicked - follow her out of my apartment, into the hall, and then down the hall to the stairs at the end (nobody uses the stairs, where the hell are we going?)
we start climbing the stairs. all the way to the top. Up there, behind a bunch of maintenance shit, is a locked door leading out onto the roof (well, one of two roofs, actually). But it's always locked, and always alarmed, so we've never had a chance to use it. Except for this time, because the building manager is there and he's holding it open, smoking a cigarette and looking down at his phone. And like, we're all friends and everything (I've been living in that place for years) so he just gives me a little nod and a smile, and then goes back to tapping away on his fruit combo or whatever. Sliding past him, we go out onto the roof - which is not a safe roof, by the way - and it's cool and breezy and dark; and in the corner, up against some AC duct, there's a wireless sound bar connected to an ipod nano (that's how old we are), playing something vaguely classical and fancy.
and as soon as i look at her, she puts her arm around my waist and we start slow-dancing in the middle of the roof, like we're at a prom or something. And Lukas (not his real name) slinks away and leaves the door wedged open with a bucket full of cigarette butts, so now it's just the two of us (and the people in the adjacent, much taller building) all-alone on the roof. And I'm completely breathless, so I ask her what the hell is going on. What's the occasion? She says no occasion, just that i should 'look up'. And so I do. But all that's up there is a featureless gray sky, blown out by the orange sodium of our neighborhood. She says there's northern lights up there, if you look hard enough. Which is unbelievable, but I believe her anyway. And so I'm squinting and not really seeing it; there's maybe the faintest hint of green, I'm not really sure. And then, like a pot of spilled ink, my eyes adjust and there's this wash of color. Faint and blurry, gone in a second. But I swear I saw it. And I'm like wowww, completely transfixed; and that's when she kisses me and tells me she loves me (i said it back without hesitation, btw) and we start moving in a circle to something slow and orchestral. All while high up above (I assume, because, if im being honest, I didn't see shit) the night sky was shimmering with an otherworldly glow.
After a while, blue danube comes on, which is one of my favorites, and we start twirling to that instead. and it cannot be overstated how bad we are at dancing, but we kept spinning and tip-tapping across the insanely dirty roof for another, I dunno, forty-five minutes before Lukas came back to wrap it all up. And the whole thing was, without question, the best moment of my entire life. No ulterior motive, no surprise announcement, no 'by the way, I ran over your cat earlier, hope this softens the blow' at the end. Just the distant sound of traffic and the crackle of a 128kbps harpsichord over in the corner. We didn't speak a word. I just lay my head on her shoulder, she brushed my hair a little, and halfway through she touched my butt. Chef's kiss perfection, the whole thing.
anyway, that's it. I dunno if anyone cares. but i had to write it down somewhere, just to get it outta my head. also, i think she paid lukas to let us up there, ill ask him when i see him. oh, and in the future, i will completely embellish this story to have us dancing a step-perfect waltz to a crystal-clear aurora in the shape of our faces. but for now, it was just a clumsy night in the city. and i liked it. she's the best.

2024.05.13 23:15 oftenfrequently Comparing the HTT strategies for each of the main families

Comparing the HTT strategies for each of the main families
Fair warning, this is gonna be a long one :)
I started working on this for my own purposes because I’m fascinated by the similarities and differences between the HTT styling approaches Kibbe recommends for the different ID families, but then thought it might be helpful to share with the sub. I always see lots of mention of “lines,” but the overall HTT approach for each ID is sometimes (often) oversimplified. Plus all the other very fun elements that make up a HTT are, imo, getting short shrift! There are a few users who have posted amazing full HTTs for their IDs and I'm hoping even more people will be inspired to explore.
So what even is this post?
Basically, I went through the styling directives in Metamorphosis (Chapter 4) for the main families and directly compared the recommendations for the IDs on a number of smaller, more discrete variables because my brain finds it more digestible that way. I only did the main families because “you’re a [insert family here] first and foremost!!” is a thing regardless of your ID ;) And I thought it was more interesting to compare the elements of the pure families without the influence of any other undercurrents. Also it just would have been a lot of work to do all of them 🙃.
A few notes before getting to the good stuff
  • I tried to mostly focus on the words Kibbe uses to evoke feelings rather than specific items, since the book was written in the 80s and clothing is obviously quite different.
  • Some of the things that fall in the middle of a scale have debateable positioning since the middles are sometimes hard to compare (ex. Is a moderate pinstripe more angular or less angular than a soft-edged plaid? My vote was more angular but your vote could be the opposite!) I included all of the language I used to determine placement on the scales so you can make your own call if you want.
  • I disincluded some, ahem, charged descriptors in a few IDs but I don’t think it changes the overall picture painted of what that ID would be looking to channel in their HTTs
This post includes all of the scales I compared the families on in 6 main categories - silhouette, fabric, detail, prints, color, and accessories - plus some keywords that came up for each family that give the overall impression of the HTT. I might make a second part later with key similarities and differences between the approaches for each pair of families, but we'll see! I'm also interested in any discussion here or observations that others might have on the various categories :)
And of course you can always read Metamorphosis for yourself in full here, which I highly recommend!

1. Silhouette

This section is related to the base silhouette of an outfit - the overall shape of garments that make up a HTT and how they relate to one another. For the purposes of this category, I'm defining "ensemble" as the pieces look related or like they were purchased together, which I believe is the sense Kibbe uses it in.
https://preview.redd.it/8earo8fbm70d1.jpg?width=1965&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40f17625fbfc45cc723b9cc83d447111428d8b02
Shapes
  • D - “keep shapes sharp and geometric. Triangles, rectangles, and everything sculpted, sleek, and elongated, with crisp edges.” “square, sharp shoulders”
  • R - “keep your shapes rounded with soft edges! Circles, ornate swirls, and intricate flowing shapes” “shoulders should be curved”
  • C - “slightly geometric or slightly curved, blend the same shapes together in your look” “slight, crisp shoulder padding”
  • N - “geometric shapes with soft or rounded edges are the key. Rounded-edged rectangles. Soft oblongs, rounded-edged squares, irregular shapes, and soft asymmetrics.” “soft-edged shoulder pads are very good”
  • G - “small, sharp geometrics” “sharp edges and crisp tailoring” “crisp” “sharp edges and extreme tailoring and construction” “sharp shoulder pads”
Outline quality
  • D - “Always straight, with elongated draping that is sleek”
  • R - “your outline should always be soft and flowing” “lots of gentle draping everywhere” “soft fluidity”
  • C - “smooth and symmetrical with the emphasis on controlled and even edges, soft, straight lines, or smoothly curved lines - softly tailored or slightly flowing.”
  • N - “a relaxed, straight line is the outline of your look”
  • G - “sharp, straight, and staccato” “severe lines with sharp edges” “broken, staccato, animated outline. Utilizing many short vertical lines and many short horizontal lines is also effective.”
Closeness of fit
  • D - “always tailored and sculpted” “streamlined shape” “tailored and sleek” “the more tailored the better”
  • R - “showcase the lush curves of your body” “Sleeves should be tapered at the wrist” “waistline should always be emphasized, with soft gathers, folds, draped sashes, and lightweight and supple belts to give a cinched effect” “[Jackets] should be fitted at the waist”
  • C - “very slight draping in constructed garments” “crisp and finished cuffs” “tailored pleats” “narrow and tailored [jackets] with a smooth outline.” “lightweight unconstructed jackets are fine when they are kept sleek and narrow. Blazers, cardigan-style, elongated Chanel (not cropped) are all good choices” “softly tailored”
  • N - “softly tailored, always unconstructed” “Your outline should be fairly narrow and slim, in a loose and easy way.” “Dropped waist detail (loose sashes, overbloused tops, ties, etc) is excellent, as are slightly dropped shoulders.” “Relaxed shapes” “relaxed and easy fit” “dresses should be simple and unconstructed, with a narrow shape and a relaxed outline.”
  • G - “Precision fitted and crisply tailored” “[a] precisely fitted silhouette is crucial to your look” “Sharp and narrow waist definition.” “very fitted” “[skirts] should be very fitted at the waistband” “Pants should always be very sharply tailored with outlined or animated detail at the edges (waistbands, pleats, crisp cuffs).” “Skin tight stretchy pants are excellent” “Very tailored [blouses] with sharp edges and crisp detail (collars, cuffs, pleats, etc.)”
Length of garments
  • D - “Long, vertical lines are essential.” “generally [jackets] should be long (ending at the mid-thigh area), although a very sleek, Italian-style might be cropped (be sure this has an extremely sculpted, streamlined shape)” “straight and long [skirts]” “a long hem” “long cardigans or pullovers”
  • R - "lengths should be kept gracefully long as uneven hemlines (mid-calf), and short as the tapered styles with an even hemline (mid kneecap)" "[for sweaters] short lengths with waist detail"
  • C - “standard length is best [for jackets] (just below break of hip)” “slightly longer jackets are possible when the corresponding skirt is elongated to match.” “moderate length [skirts]”
  • N - “Elongated [jackets] (ending from the upper thigh on down.)” “Moderate length [skirts]” “Very short skirts for fun/funky looks.” “Nearly all styles [of pants] are excellent, from very casual to very dressy… short, cropped, or long.” “Any and all lengths [for sweaters]”
  • G - “Short, cropped [jackets]” “Straight, sharp, and short [skirts]” “A slightly flared hemline [on skirts] may be slightly longer (top of the calf). Anything extremely long is very tricky, and must have a slit and be pencil slim.” “[For pants] Short lengths, anywhere from cropped at the calf to the top of the ankle.” “Short, cropped cardigans” “Short cropped jackets, vests, and boleros work well with dresses for you”
Cohesion
  • D - “keep individual pieces blended together in an artful way for elegance”
  • R - “include an artful blending of plush textures, draped fabrics, and luxurious colors” “avoid any kind of harsh contrast between top and bottom”
  • C - “A clean, unbroken silhouette is your most elegant statement! Think ‘head-to-toe’, and blend everything accordingly.” “Use [separates] carefully and sparingly” “Make sure colors, textures, and prints blend together”
  • N - “Separates are extremely exciting on you, and should make up the bulk of your wardrobe” “you’ll do better with an artful mixture of patterns, textures and colors than you will with an overly matched look” “designer sportswear” “definitely mix n’ match in the most sophisticated sense of the word”
  • G - “A use of well-coordinated separates with lots of animated and colorful detail can be very exciting to your look.”
Some random observations from me about this category
  • N fam has a truly impressive amount of versatility in terms of the length of pieces they're recommended, probably because they're the only family that's really strongly encouraged to go whole hog with a mix and match/separates-forward approach (a superpower tbh).
  • Although the scale of pieces recommended are obviously quite different, the words he uses to describe the shapes for D and G fams are extremely similar. Definitely two families that benefit from an emphasis on crisp sharpness and angularity.
  • I thought it was interesting that he used "softly tailored" in both the C and N fam sections, although the effect they're going for is very different (blended understated elegance vs. relaxed funky easy vibes).
  • He never uses the word "wide" in the N fam section. He does, however, use "narrow" and "loosely tailored" a number of times 😈 No oversized shapeless potato sacks here!

2. Fabric

This category is pretty self-explanatory I hope!
https://preview.redd.it/94e76p19190d1.jpg?width=1976&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=816214030ae525dd16ec2e071426eab1e571c544
Definition
  • D - “fabrics that hold a defined shape are necessary”
  • R - “fabrics that drape easily” “flowing”
  • C - “beautiful, luscious fabrics are an important element in your understated look” “very slight draping in constructed garments.”
  • N - “loose and easy”
  • G - “must always be crisp, able to hold a defined shape, and be tailored easily”
Range of textures (how many different fabrics can they use)
  • D - “Moderate to heavyweights are best, with a matte finish and a smooth surface” “textures should be tightly woven, and shiny fabrics should be very stiff and ultraglitzy”
  • R - “softly woven fabrics” “ultrashiny fabrics” “ultrasoft or plush textures” “sheer fabrics” “any kind of sparkle is excellent”
  • C - “Matte finish or slight sheen.” “Luxurious to the touch” “lightweight textures” “smooth knits” “smooth chiffon and elegantly beaded fabrics for evening.”
  • N - “All soft textures are excellent” “any fabric with a rough or nubby surface” “any wrinkly fabric works well” “all woven fabrics” “knits are excellent in nearly any weight and thickness, from very finely woven to very heavy and rough” “Plush velours, suede, and soft leather are perfect” “drapable fabrics are best kept to heavier weight jerseys.” “A matte finish is far superior to sheen for daytime” “In the evening, you can go very glitzy with hard-finished sheens”
  • G - “a flat surface or light texture is best” “finely woven knits, especially when ribbed and skinny, are good choices.” “matte finish is best, although hard-finished sheens can be very exciting (especially metallics)”
Weight
  • D - “Moderate to heavyweights are best” “occasionally lightweight fabrics can work if they are extra-structured in the design of the garment”
  • R - “lightweight fabrics”
  • C - “moderate weights. Lightweights in very constructed or tailored garments.”
  • N - "knits are excellent in nearly any weight and thickness, from very finely woven to very heavy and rough." “moderate weights are best, although textures can easily be lighter”
  • G - “usually your fabric will be of moderate weight, though lighter weights that hug the body are excellent”
Some random observations from me about this category
  • Again lots of similarities for G and D fam as far as structure and matte finish, although D also has heavier structured wovens while G has fine knits.
  • R fam and N fam get by far the most diverse recommendations as far as fabric and textures go (again a ton of versatility in N fam!). Seems like you really can't go wrong with something sparkly, shiny, glitzy, or plushy if you're in R fam. And for N fam it sounds like you get to mix far more textures into one HTT than everybody else does, which is exciting!
  • I thought the emphasis on flowing for R fam was interesting. It makes total sense - I haven't read too deeply into R since I am clearly not one lol - but for some reason I had flowing associated with N in my mind.
  • I really love the C recommendations myself - "luscious fabrics" just makes me think about burrowing in a cashmere blanket haha. I could definitely picture Grace Kelly as I was reading them.

3. Prints

Also self-explanatory!
https://preview.redd.it/nn24my93490d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a8d47c3a4d4d5984b6cac8d9deeccdf7da834c4
Pattern
  • D - “bold and geometric: stripes, zigzags, asymmetrics, and irregular shapes.” “Think Picasso and strive for a contemporary feeling”
  • R - “rich and luscious with the emphasis on an abstract, watercolor blend (think Monet). Swirls of color, flowing together, with soft and rounded edges may be used in abundance.”
  • C - “symmetrical, evenly spaced, and regular or realistic patterns. Understated prints (pin dots, pinstripes, checks, blended plaids, herringbone, symmetrical paisleys, etc.)”
  • N - “casual styles that are soft-edged geometrics (plaids, stripes, paisleys, etc.) and funky prints in irregular shapes (abstract asymmetrics, leaves, animal prints, etc.).”
  • G - “Prints should be sharp, colorful, and animated. Small geometrics and angular asymmetrics are excellent. Most of your prints should be very contemporary in feeling (“Picasso-ish”) although humorous styles that are outlined and caricatured can be quite stunning on you as well.”
Contrast
  • D - “Bold color combinations and high-contrast blends work best”
  • R - “swirls of color, flowing together”
  • C - “Make sure colors, textures, and prints blend together” “understated”
  • N - “generally have a softly blended edge”
  • G - “colorful and animated” “outlined” “contrast”
Scale
  • D - “bold”
  • R - “luxuriously large: oversized florals or feathery shapes are especially lovely”
  • C - “understated”
  • N - “moderate scale to slightly large”
  • G - “small”
Some random observations from me about this category
  • Again lots of similarities for D and G for the type (sharp geometric) and feeling of prints (contemporary/Picasso) with the main difference being large vs. small scale (don't worry, they're about to diverge hardcore 😂)
  • R fam is recommended significantly more abstract and organic prints than everyone else. I also thought it was interesting that both D and R call for larger-scale prints - finally something in common!
  • For C fam it seems like the most important thing is that the prints blend in and are understated rather than drawing attention to themselves.
  • Preferring high contrast and sharp prints vs slightly more blended and soft ones seems like a notable difference between D/G and N fam.

4. Garment Detail

This category is related to the details within the confines of the outline of a garment. So things like necklines, collars, effects like beading and sequins, trim, buttons, etc etc.
https://preview.redd.it/342pwi6y390d1.jpg?width=1971&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64115f1045c7a3cb6d9ac1d6d843754ca943a603
Shape - sharp vs soft
  • D - “angular shapes” “sharp edges” “clean, angular necklines (plunging v’s, skinny turtlenecks, high Mandarins, slashed collars, halters…)” “anything tailored (crisp cuffs, sharp pleats, sharp lapels, etc.)”
  • R - “soft” “[Sleeves can be] very soft and flowing” “lapels should be curved, rounded, or shawl-collared” “gathers, tucks, or bouffant shapes” “any draped, gathered, or shirred touches are wonderful accents”
  • C - “clean, tailored necklines” “crisp and finished cuffs”
  • N - “Any unconstructed or loosely tailored detail works well.” “Simple necklines… are best, and you should concentrate on open necklines for your air of casual chic” “lapels should be tailored, notched, or clean (lapel-less).” “Cuffs should be very plain.”
  • G - “Detail should always be… sharp” “very crisp, staccato, broken up, and multicolored” “lots of crisp trim” “lots of outlining (collars, cuffs, waistbands, lapels) with piping of contrasting colors or fabric, braiding, beads, etc.” “Small, crisp pleats.” “Sharp, angular necklines - also small” “Small, crisp ties (ribbon, leather, etc.)” “Small, tailored lapels or crisp lapel-less with piping.” “Small, crisp cuffs.”
Scale - large vs small
  • D - “bold, sweeping geometrics”
  • R - “oversize bows, flouncy ruffles, and delicate lace are always good choices”
  • C - “[detail] should never call attention to itself”
  • N - “pleats should be soft and deep” “You can use small touches of hand embroidery or rough lace and eyelet for very simple trim.”
  • G - “Detail should always be small” “Small, crisp pleats.” “Sharp, angular necklines - also small” “Small, crisp ties (ribbon, leather, etc.)” “Small, tailored lapels or crisp lapel-less with piping.” “Small, crisp cuffs”
Complexity - clean vs intricate
  • D - “detail should always be clean and minimal”
  • R - “intricate, ornate… with an emphasis on framing your face” “Sleeves should be tapered at the wrist with intricate buttons” “any kind of sparkle is excellent (pearls, sequins, beading, etc.)” “belt buckles should always be intricate” “the more intricate or antique looking your buttons are the better” “ornate detail” “ornate necklines”
  • C - “clean, simple, and minimal - just enough to add an elegantly understated touch.” “never call attention to itself” “clean lines” “minimal detail” “minimum of detail”
  • N - “detail should be kept minimal. Plain and simple is best for you.” “gathers should be minimal” “simple tailored styles with minimal detail” “Simple shapes with easy fits” “Minimal detail”
  • G - “an overabundance of detail” “You can never wear too much detail! An abundance of it and everywhere in your look is one of the most effective tools you have for capturing your animated effervescence!” “Detail should always… call attention to itself (not blend into the lines of your garments)” “lots of animated and colorful detail” “Collar, cuff, lapel, and waistband detail (outlining, trim, piping, ribbing) are essential”
Some random observations from me about this category
  • A very stark divide here between the families that lean minimal/clean (C, N, D) and the families that lean complex (R, G)!
  • Even though R and G both call for a lot of detail, G fam seems to like it literally everywhere (but especially at the edges) while R focuses on framing the face. Another difference between them is that G detail is high contrast, sharp, and colorful while R fam's detail tends to the ornate, flowing, intricate, and sparkly - very different shapes I think.
  • Finally a category where N fam is not running away with the versatility haha - it seems like a more minimal and clean approach to detail really helps them shine.

5. Color

Y'all know what colors are :)
https://preview.redd.it/5he7hmfk790d1.jpg?width=1949&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc59971dc9518bfbd276300feccba5838f4d7971
Number
  • D - “Always think ‘head-to-toe’ with your color schemes” “All monochromatic schemes are excellent”
  • R - “include an artful blending of… luxurious colors”
  • C - “Make sure colors, textures, and prints blend together” “monochromatic schemes are excellent, although you do not need to be limited to just one or two colors.”
  • N - “Color is an area in which you should have lots of fun! Strive for zip, verve, and lots of pizzazz with bolds, brights, pastels, vivids, and wild color combinations - anything imaginative.” “Break all the rules when it comes to color! Mix ‘n match with ease.”
  • G - “lots of animated and colorful detail can be very exciting to your look” “Your use of color should be bold and sassy; break all the rules here! Multicolored splashes are perfect. Bright and shockingly colored accessories played against a dark or light background. High, sharp contrast and wild color combinations are all very chic on you. Break your line with color!”
Effect
  • D - “color combination should be bold but elegant. Combining bright shades with dark shades achieves this with ease.”
  • R - “should emphasize a watercolor palette of soft pastels and luscious brights.” “rich, luxuriously blended colors” “pale neutrals… are your best accents”
  • C - “accentuate your smoothly blended visual outline. This means that a mixture of colors in an outfit should blend together in intensity so as not to disrupt your clean and smooth silhouette.” “The key is to make sure the tones (intensities) blend, instead of contrasting.”
  • N - “Strive for zip, verve, and lots of pizzazz with bolds, brights, pastels, vivids, and wild color combinations - anything imaginative. Neutrals work well when they are used in beautifully textured fabrics… but you will feel a little dull without a few bright accents, either in accessories or jewelry.” “Colors can be very wild and unusual if you wish, or more muted and earthy-looking”
  • G - “bold and sassy” “Multicolored splashes” “Bright and shockingly colored accessories played against a dark or light background.” “High, sharp contrast and wild color combinations”
Some random observations from me about this category
  • It's been said before but D fam's inability to do anything but monochrome has been greatly exaggerated. Outfits can have high contrast colors as long as they still read bold and sleek!
  • I found it interesting that both C fam and R fam call for a blended effect.
  • Color seems like a key category to focus on for both N fam and G fam - bold color kings/queens 👑

6. Accessories

The category for everything else - bags, hats, shoes, jewelry, belts, etc etc.
https://preview.redd.it/ek7fu7oz790d1.jpg?width=1923&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c24f3db63656cef4a8da916665ba0f19893cc86
Scale
  • D - “Belts should be bold and wide” “Metal belts will be sculpted and quite large.” “[Hats should have] wide brims” “[Jewelry should have] an emphasis on bold, modern shapes.” “[For jewelry,] Pieces should be large but not overly bulky.”
  • R - “The effect may be lavish, but the workmanship should be intricate and delicate.” “delicate [shoes]” “[For bags,] Delicate shoulder straps. Elegantly slim briefcases.” “Jewelry should always be delicate and lavish, with intricate and ornate touches. Rounded shapes, curves, swirls, and lots of dangles”
  • C - “slender pumps” “narrow heels” “moderate size [bags]” “slim and elegant” “keep [belts] elegant, slim, and narrow with small smooth buckles” “small and crisp [hats] with even brims” “Small [jewelry]”
  • N - “moderate-sized [bags]” “Jewelry should be kept on the chunky side” “It is possible to get away with very minimal chains, tiny diamond studs, etc., but chances are you won’t be satisfied with this once you experiment with a zippier look!”
  • G - “All accessories should be small, crisp, geometric, and colorful” “Small, crisp geometrics [for bags]” “[Belts] may be narrow to moderately wide.” “Small, crisply tailored hats.” “Jewelry should be small and sharp.”
Shape
  • D - “All accessories should be crisp, sharply tailored, and angular with geometric shapes. Keep everything sleek and contemporary in feeling.” “High, straight heels, crisp soles, and elegantly tapering toes.” “Angular envelopes, clutches, or structured briefcases.” “[For jewelry,] thin sharp pieces are good choices, as are avant-garde works of art.”
  • R - “softly sophisticated.” “[Shoes of] Lightweight and supple leather.” “[For bags,] small, rounded shapes. Soft, supple leather or fabric.” [For belts,] soft and supple leather or fabric.” “Soft, curvy [hats]” “Large, fluffy fur hats.”
  • C - “elegant scarves in symmetrical ties” “tapered toes” “elegant leather” “softly tailored flats” “crisply tailored [bags]” “supple leather [bags]” “tailored, symmetrical shape[d hats]” “Keep your jewelry elegant, smooth, and symmetrical” “Small, slightly geometric shapes [in jewelry] are good, as are smoothly curved swirls.”
  • N - “Unconstructed styles with soft or rounded-edged geometric shapes are most effective.” “high heels should be very angular and straight, not tapered” “unconstructed pouches” “Simple geometrics in supple leather” “softly geometric [belts]” “unconstructed [hats]. Large, loose, and floppy. Shaggy-haired fur.” “Soft or rounded-edged geometrics [for jewelry]”
  • G - “All accessories should be small, crisp, geometric, and colorful” “tailored and angular [shoes] in lightweight leather. Unusual shapes in toes and heels are excellent (asymmetrics, wedges, sharp points, etc.) as are bold colors and printed fabric.” “Small, crisp geometrics [for bags]” “Stiff leather [belts] with geometric buckles.” “Jewelry should be small and sharp and in geometric, asymmetrical, or irregular shapes.”
Detail
  • D - “sleek & elegant”
  • R - “ornate” “strappy, slender-heeled [shoes] with tapered or open toes” “[Flats] with ornamentation” “[For bags,] Ornamentation or luxurious detail (beads, gathers, trim).” “[For belts,] All beaded, bejeweled, or sparkly styles are excellent.” “belts are a focal point, and should be selected as carefully as a fine piece of jewelry” “Jewelry should always be delicate and lavish, with intricate and ornate touches. Rounded shapes, curves, swirls, and lots of dangles… sparkly materials are essential… and an antique, baroque, or rococo effect is desirable.”
  • C - “simple, clean, and elegant” “Be careful not to overdo! Go elegant instead of extreme.”
  • N - “Accessories should be kept minimal; plain and simple is your best look here” “evening sandals should be very bare, not strappy” “belts should be simple” “[For jewelry, think] “wearable art”... or it can be bright and funky costume pieces that add pizzazz! Earthy materials are very elegant and sophisticated on you (copper, silver, amber, turquoise, etc.). Hard-finished enamels and glass are fun, especially when used in bold colors for vivid accents”
  • G - “[Accessories] should call attention to themselves as detail” “Contrast is being strived for with your use of accessories, as well as bringing out your wit and a sense of fun.” “[For shoes] bold colors and printed fabric. Flats of all kinds should always be funky and fun (patent leather, trimmed, etc.)” “Brightly colored belts are excellent aids in breaking your line.” “[For jewelry] Brightly colored enamel, stone, or glass are best. Very contemporary avant-garde pieces are excellent on you, as are trendy pieces that accentuate your wit.”
Some random observations from me about this category
  • In keeping with the general themes, D fam again shines more with much bolder or larger scale accessories than everyone else, although they don't need a ton of detail within them. The overall shape seems to do most of the heavy lifting.
  • In contrast, G fam and R fam once again call for a lot of detail within their accessories. They also get the most fun-sounding shoes (to me, a magpie).
  • And again N, C, and D have the cleaner strategies for accessories, although N does have a more G-like approach recommended for fun colorful jewelry.

7. In closing, some keywords

Picked out from the sections for each main family. I find these helpful to kind of paint a word picture of the overall vibe each family is recommended to go for.
  • D - sharp, geometric, elongated, sculpted, sleek, streamlined, defined, structured, clean, bold, sweeping, angular, tailored, elegant, long, straight, contemporary, avant-garde, crisp, modern, chiseled, high-contrast
  • R - soft, rounded, ornate, intricate, flowing, draping, light, shiny, plush, sheer, delicate, curved, tapered, sparkle, gathers, folds, blended, luxurious, fluid, antique, shirred, flounces, frills, fluffy, swirls, watercolor, rich, abstract, sophisticated, strappy, ornamentation, beaded, bejeweled, lavish, rococo, elaborate, colorful, glitzy
  • C - smooth, even, blended, controlled, softly tailored, slightly flowing, clean, elegant, luscious, understated, quality, moderate, simple, minimal, crisp, symmetrical, gathers, slim, beaded, sleek, natural
  • N - geometric, soft, rounded edges, irregular, asymmetric, relaxed, straight, softly tailored, unconstructed, narrow, slim, loose, easy, textured, plush, matte, minimal, plain, simple, open, casual, chic, separates, mix and match, pattern, color, sophisticated, easy, elongated, short, zip, verve, pizzazz, bold, bright, pastel, vivid, wild, imaginative, funky, blended, chunky, elegant, tousled, free, fresh-faced, glowing, radiant, healthy
  • G - small, sharp, geometric, fitted, crisp, tailored, straight, staccato, severe, animated, broken, short, detail, defined, flat, light, matte, sheen, moderate, call attention, colorful, trim, outlined, piping, ribbing, contrast, pleats, angular, ties, lapels, narrow, well-coordinated separates, tapered, stiff, slim, asymmetrical, bold, sassy, splashes, bright, high contrast, wild, chic, contemporary, humorous, wit, fun, angular, unusual shapes, prints, irregular, avant-garde, sleek, beading, tousled, cropped, fresh-faced, glowing, doe-eyed
Phew! You made it to the end. Hopefully it was helpful, or gave you some ideas of smaller, more approachable categories to explore for HTTs. If not, at least it was a great exercise for my own weird brain processing lol. Feel free to drop any observations/thoughts you might have in the comments, I'm curious what everyone else sees or thinks is notable or interesting!

2024.05.13 22:45 Open_Cap_652 Quick Review of Recent Sezane Purchases! (Clyde Trench, Paula Babies, Octobre Editions Riddle Jacket)

Hi everyone!
Longtime lurker, first time caller :) Just wanted to share some opinions on recent Sezane purchases in terms of fit, quality, etc. Hope it's helpful for anyone thinking about these purchases!
For reference, I'm 5'5", 135-140 lbs (depending on my menstrual cycle), athletic build but also quite curvy (broad shoulders and lats from years of rock climbing, wide hips, smaller waist). Measurements are roughly 37 inch bust - 28 inch waist. My complexion is dark (olive-tan skin, black hair, brown eyes).
Clyde Trench in Camel
I ordered a size 4 as I range anywhere from a size 2-size 6 in Sezane tops just depending on how I want something to fit.
Riddle Jacket in Pied de Poule (Houndstooth) Khaki
I love Octobre Editions and I'm obsessed with how Sezane does a lot of their Instagram reel styling with women wearing men's jackets and knit tops. I watched a reel where their social media ambassador Lise (Lisa?) tried on the Riddle Jacket and commented on being a European size 52 (US Size 42) (which seemed large but what do I know?) so based my sizing off of that.
Paula Babies (in Polished Camel and Patent Khaki)
I have a quite flat, wide foot (very little arch) and I typically wear a size 7.5-8 Womens US. I've heard a lot of rumblings on this subreddit to size up in Sezane shoes, so I got both a size 8 (Camel) and size 9 (Patent Khaki).
Hope this experience helps anyone making a decision! Happy to answer more questions and post pictures of shoes (but probably not the jackets, as I've already re-packed them).

HOW DO I HIDE THIS BIG ASS FOREHEAD YALL😭🙏
Yes like the title says , what hairstyle would be best to hide my big ass forehead or at least make it look somewhat smaller 😭 my forehead makes me so insecure that’s why I don’t rlly like trying new hairstyles cuz then if it makes my forehead appear larger I’ll have to carry it for a month. Also I have barely any edges since I used to pluck the front hair out as a kid . I wanna try wigs but don’t wanna give people a jump scare when I wear my natural hair out. This shit stresses me out everyday like when I stand face to face with people all I can think abt is the first thing they see is my forehead 😞
I’ll add a picture so u can see urself (also I don’t rlly like wearing braids anymore because as u can see in the picture it dosent kay flat but instead makes my head look even bigger )
Should I just give up and accept it or is there any thing I could do 🙏 ty <3

2024.05.13 21:07 PaladinCrafter I (32 f) live with my boyfriend,(33 m) and his best friend (37 f), and she's a nightmare! How do I approach this with my BF?

I (32 f) live with my boyfriend, Jay (33 m) and his best friend Autumn (37 f). I apologize for the long story, and I need your advice. I met my boyfriend, Jay, online. We knew each other for several years before we dated long distance. I moved across the country to be with him in 2022, and moved into the apartment he shared with Autumn. I knew in advance that Autumn and Jay had been intimate before he and I had ever dated, and that he had cut any romantic or intimate things off with her. Autumn was the final approval for me moving in with them. There was trouble from the day I moved in. Her cat did not get along with my cat. It caused an explosive fight between myself and Autumn, because she was very protective and defensive. Autumn has mental health issues she faces, and I struggle with cPTSD and anxiety. This made communication almost impossible between the two of us, and wedged Jay in between us. To make things worse, her car died. I fronted the money to buy her a $2000 car. She never once made arrangements to pay me back, though Jay promised that they would do so. (Over one year later she has not paid back one penny.) Jay lost his job and she worked less than 20 hours a week, so I became the provider. I paid all but $180 of rent, I paid for the food of 3 people. I never placed blame. I never complained. In fact, I made him a resume and helped him job hunt.
Jay got a job and I was able to borrow from my 401k and I purchased a home (only in my name) in 2023. Jay pays for Autumn’s expenses, such as a major car repair, tire replacements, etc (I believe he feels obligated since she cannot afford anything on her wages). I agreed to allow Jay and Autumn to both move in. If I did not agree to allow Autumn to move in, she would have become homeless, and I couldn't bear to be the cause of something like that. Autumn agreed to pay rent of $400, which is extremely affordable for our area, or any area for that matter. She was unable to pay more than $200 in rent for the first three months we lived in my home. She could not afford food. She couldn't afford anything.
Meanwhile, there are several explosive meltdowns between Autumn and me. After facing years of abuse from family and my ex, I am unwilling to tolerate poor treatment. Boundaries are something Autumn struggles to understand, and continues to struggle with, even after we had passed one year of being roommates. Jay is very defensive when it comes to Autumn, and feels in debt to her due to prior relationship choices. He is very hesitant to acknowledge that there is a problem, and basically pictures that she will forever live at his side.
Autumn now has a new job. She can now pay her $400 rent but that is basically it. Jay and I pay for the food for 3 grown adults. He still pays for major incidents that come up for her.
I am at my breaking point. The most recent issue between Autumn and myself is noise because I work from home. I am a very quiet person, the type to listen to my phone on the lowest volume setting. She is a very loud person on a good day, and lately the noise has become very disruptive. She's the person listening to her devices on max volume. I have made moves to alter my office to help keep noise out, like hanging up hooks for a noise dampening curtain on my door, putting a fan on for white noise, listening to music, and it often isn't enough even then. I cannot alter my space any further. Now it is on her. And yet, this has caused a big fight when I mentioned it and asked her to be respectful. She tells everyone (Jay and her online friends) that I must prove myself to be different. She's convinced I'll kick her out at a whim like her abusive father (despite that the law says I would need to give her 30 days notice minimum). I can hear everything she says, considering her whisper is a normal person's raised volume level. Autumn likes to tell her friends things about me, like how I must be jealous of her. She is really good at hurting my feelings. I take pride in being a caring and giving and kind person. I'm feeling taken advantage of.
At this point, I have grown very resentful. All this time she has worked less than 30 hours a week. I work close to 50 hours to support us. She wakes me up several times a month being loud in the mornings. She continues to have an issue with her volume. She has a blow up fight with her friends, injures her knee, is out of work for two weeks… it all just piles up on me. But I'm the rude one, the cruel jealous girlfriend who won't give her a break. I am sick of it. I can't even have an intimate relationship with Jay for his fear of her being hurt about it or something (he doesn't want to elaborate). I don't know what to do. Side note: Since I am always at home, I'm confident there's nothing romantic between the two of them.
Her lease is up in November and I just don't want her to renew. I want her to move out. I am afraid that when I tell them this, Jay would be very hurt, and would disagree, and Autumn would be vindictive. I'm at the point where my relationship is suffering and I am burnt out and exhausted every day. In the past when I even hint at this, he has been very dismissive and doesn't want to talk about the potential of having her move out. At this point, I'm afraid I'll have to break apart my relationship to get this woman out of my life. How should I approach this with Jay?

2024.05.13 20:57 retropolitic How To: DIY Repair for Loose Mirrors

How To: DIY Repair for Loose Mirrors
You may find that the ball joint on your later model OEM Triumph mirror eventually struggles to hold position when at speed. One reason for this is failure of the ball joint retaining collar inside the mirror housing. A moderate bump to the mirror can crack the collar and compromise the ball socket.
Broken collar from the outside. That barely-visible piece between the ball joint and mirror body is the retaining collar. If yours looks similar, this may help you.
The culprit
The mirror in this post is OEM part #T2060314 for a 2022 Speed Twin. This fix should apply to other models as the ball joint design is common across many recent parts.
Replacement OEM mirrors aren't terribly expensive but free [or nearly free] is better. I 3d printed my part but you can also use the provided dimensions make your own from any ~2.2mm thick flat stock. If neither option is available to you, check your local public library (many have printers), search for local 3d printing groups (they usually love to help), or upload the .step file to any one of many online fab-on-demand services and have them print or cut it out of whatever material you like. Or you could wedge some random junk in there and see how it goes.
This Reddit post is more focused on showing the issue and general fix. I have uploaded the files and printing-specific information here: https://www.printables.com/model/878383-mirror-shim-for-triumph-motorcycles For non-printers, reference the critical dimensions (in mm) below or open the linked .step file in any CAD software.
https://preview.redd.it/jb93bh9wn80d1.png?width=647&format=png&auto=webp&s=c30b3270fd9814fc0ab01dd520d908e5be3d6994
Repair information and procedure in pictures:
The mirror glass is held in by silicone adhesive from the factory. Use a heat gun or oven to heat the mirror to 160-200F (71-93C) then use plastic prying tools to carefully remove the glass. I suggest iFixIt Opening Tools.

Failure mode from the inside. Notice how the broken collar pieces have worked their way into the gap between mirror housing and the metal plate.

Unscrew the metal plate
Re-seat the broken pieces
Apply shim
Re-install metal plate
Check the ball joint - it should now look like this and again be as stiff as the day it was new.

Reinstall the glass with a silicone adhesive or 3M VHB tape.

2024.05.13 20:08 belasper What to do with this thin strip on my driveway?

What to do with this thin strip on my driveway?
At a loss for ideas for this very thin, very awkward strip of land on my driveway. Every few weeks it fills up with grass as shown in the picture...
We bought the house brand new, and the white stones were put in by the developer. I bought some solar spotlights to try to jazz it up a bit, but every few weeks from April onwards, it's a case of hand pulling all this grass from the stones. When I put the lights in, I discovered how shallow the ground is under the stones. Seems like it might actually just be concrete under there (the lights came with stakes that were about 3 inches long, they couldn't penetrate at all, so the lights are kind of just wedged into the stones)
I daren't plant anything in there because I just know the postie will trample it.
So... What do I do?? I don't want to be pulling up grass every few weeks. I would ideally like something living there, but other than having a weird thin strip of intentional grass, I really don't know what to do lol. I don't really like the idea of paving it or putting more stones in. Maybe some moss or something that can handle light foot traffic?

2024.05.13 19:47 happyhour05 Husband wants to watch

My husband and I have been married for the past 9 years and we've always had a great and adventurous sex life. Recently he has shared with me that he would like to watch me give someone a footjob, obviously my husband has always had a foot fetish since day one and I'm okay with it! He also shared with me that it's up to me if I want to do more with the person, if we should find someone! He also told me he wants to take pictures and videos of it.
Now one side of me is intrigued and excited about this but the other side of me feels like I would be cheating even though we might both agree on it. Now I feel like well if I get that far as giving another man a footjob I will obviously be turned on and want more myself and even though my husband says he's okay with it I'm not sure if it will cause some sort of wedge in us or hurt our relationship. Its easy to say you are OK with it now but after it happens what if he's not or what if I like it and want more and he doesn't? I feel like even though he says that won't happen part of me gets scared what if it does?
We are both in our 40s and have had partners in the past before we met and we've talked about our past. He had asked me if I'd ever been with someone with a really big private part and I thought about and said yes actually and I was scared! Well he eased in to asking me to share the story about it and at first I didn't want to but he was pretty persistent so I did and I noticed how excited it got him and we had amazing sex after I told him the story. Now I've told him stories of men in my past while giving him handjobs or while pleasuring him orally and it always gets him off quickly plus I get excited as well reliving some of my past experiences, of course I only tell him about the ones I enjoyed and leave out the ones I didn't but the stories are just fantasy and what he wants to do is move that to reality. Again I'm not against it but I also don't want to hurt the 9 year marriage we have.
I'm torn part of me really wants to do it for his pleasure but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't doing it for my own pleasure as well, which he seems to be okay with but what if in that rare case he's not okay with it then what did I just ruin my marriage?
Has anyone ever experienced this? I've never done anything like this but I'm not going to lie and say the thought hasn't excited me either!
If anyone could share some feedback or insight i would really appreciate it.
Thanks for listening.

2024.05.13 14:41 digital_wiz How We Scaled a Hair Extension Brand using Facebook Ads and SEO to give $80,000 ROI in 6 Months (Detailed Breakdown)

Hello Redditors,
This is an incredible success story of how we helped a client achieve incredible results in just four months, generating an $80,000 return on investment (ROI) with a combination of SEO and Facebook Ads. We have completed many successful projects and there's a certain satisfaction in seeing our strategies translate to such tangible growth. I have tried to keep this post extremely detailed so that it can be beneficial for experienced marketers and newcomers alike.
The Client: Hair Extension E-commerce Brand
Revenue Split Between SEO and Fb ads: 3:2
Average Order Value: $350
Facebook Ads Spend(For 6 Months): $10,000
Total Revenue(6 months): $140,000
Other Expenses(6 months): Product Cost + Delivery cost + Team + Agency Fees + Website Optimization + Packaging: $50000
Basic Company Background:
The brand was being run by a Mother-Daughter duo for the past 3 months. They had a shopify website with average structure and were struggling with facebook ads themselves. Although they made few physical sales due to friends and relatives but were unable to utilize the digital potential of their business as such. After trying facebook ads for some time they wanted a reliable digital marketing team to work with and they were recommended to us by one of our other customers who has a service based business. Initially we connected majorly for facebook ads but after the initial discussion when were doing research from our side, we found that there is huge potential in SEO for this niche so we suggested that we should prepare a proper website on wordpress and focus on both SEO and Ads parallelly as, although Ads will give an initial boost to the business but SEO will bring some stability and help in building a sustainable business.
Facebook Ads Campaign Structure:
Ads Creatives and Brand Positioning:
It's important to note that after deep research we could find that a major share our hair extensions customers are females aged between 21-45 so we did not actively position our brand as solving problems of low hair volume, but instead we focused on how the products ads style, gives a much better look and you can try new hairstyles and hair colors daily. Also since almost all the demographics in this age group are working, we tested a professional look angle as well which gave us decent results. In ad creatives as well as on the website we made the daughter as the face of the product as we want to slowly grow her instagram as well which can add another organic and sustainable stream of revenue. She shoots before and after transition videos, general product application videos and other videos for ads according to the target audience and brand positioning strategy we discussed earlier. Instead of making long videos focused on product details a lot, we made short but captivating videos which can appeal to the young audience’s fashion sense.
Key Takeaways from FB Ads:
Mostly Meta Ads or Any other marketing tactic is just a traffic source but conversion will basically happen by how well you are able to communicate your product to the audience through your website. Its is necessary to have a smooth user journey, attractive offers, crisp information and right brand positioning on the website.
It is extremely important to make data driven decisions and track customer journeys meticulously. Always rely on your own tracking or google analytics to avoid the potential unreliability of Facebook Ads Manager.
Seo Strategy
If you don’t already know this, SEO is all about how effectively you can strategize your content and technical efforts keeping a bigger picture in mind. After our initial keyword research we could find that the average Kd of the important keywords was low when it comes to commercial keywords which were directly related to the business.
It's important to note that since the website was being built after our onboarding only so it was easy for us to structure the website according to the SEO strategy that we prepared.
At every stage we had meetings with the developer to ensure that there are no technical issues that will hinder the SEO growth and future and also we structured the website to be SEO friendly. We built separate pages for all the product categories and after through keyword research we added content to those pages so that the pages itself can rank for commercial keywords.
After the website was ready we audited it for technical issues(Like mobile friendliness, H1 tags, canonical tags, etc) we started focusing on the content. We wanted to establish our website as a trusted authority in the hair extensions and hair care industry in general.
Since the website was completely new, initially we created blogs(2-3 times per week) around informational keywords with low KD purely for increasing our website authority and bringing the initial traffic on the website. We have seen that usually people start stressing about approaching big websites for guest postings since the first day itself but if your keyword research and content is solid, that is not required in the beginning. Initially we focused on profile creations, image submissions, pdf submissions, internal linking in the content, web 2.0 backlinks etc and this was more than enough for us to rank for low difficulty keywords and increase our DA to a decent level so that our category pages can rank for low difficulty keywords.
Here I would like to include a tip, many times people are worried that what if the backlink that they have created doesn't get indexed. In the initial phase we work really hard when it comes to what we call as maturing our backlinks as this is the major factor for ranking on low difficulty keywords. So basically what we do is, we make backlinks of our web 2.0 backlinks itself which helps the primary backlink in getting indexed which ultimately helps with our website DA.
Also many people have been asking us in our previous posts how we structure our blog since I talk a lot about content quality, see it's not as hard and it doesn't involve a lot of research at least in the initial phase when you just have to rank on low difficulty keywords. In this phase usually what we do is study the top 5 ranking blogs on the particular keyword and make sure that we include more content and more subheadings then them. Also we try to find opportunities to include tables or charts wherever possible, we include good quality images(original if possible) and at this stage internal linking is very very important so we focus on that as well. In later stages although the basic strategy for framing the blogs remains same, overall content strategy varies a lot from business to business and requires a lot of strategizing depending on the brand positioning goals.
So after we were able to rank for low difficulty informational keywords and our Website DA reached a decent level due to our backlinking efforts, we started writing content around the fashion advice and common problems which people face related to hair in general. But as discussed earlier, we wanted to keep our brand positioning fashion centric, so even while writing about common problems we applied a positive and solution centric approach. We strategically placed internal links to our product pages in the content and tested popups with offers as well. Apart from this, we started guest posting as well at this stage. For finding websites for guest posting we used SEMrush’s backlink gap analysis tool and created a segregated list of blogs that we can reach out to based on their content quality and DA. By this time the store started generating decent revenue from ads and SEO so the client was completely onboard with reaching out to blogs for guest posting. Guest posting and overall strategic SEO application started generating a good amount of traffic for us and in 3-4 months the revenue generated due to SEO surpassed our Ads revenue as well.
Advantages of Combining SEO and Paid Ads
While Facebook Ads played a crucial role in launching the brand and driving initial traffic, SEO has emerged as the primary driver of sustainable growth. This approach allowed us to:
SEO efforts are always ongoing but we are really satisfied with the base that we have built and we are really looking forward to working with keywords with higher KD and generating more revenue with SEO In the upcoming months. Although we will keep running ads in future as well mostly for awareness purposes but the major revenue will be generated from our SEO efforts. Apart from this, as we mentioned earlier, we are looking to actively start the Social Media efforts as well from the next month itself. We will be looking to target Instagram and Tiktok in the initial phase and we believe in 2-3 months social media will contribute towards 25% of our revenue which will grow rapidly.
Thankyou For Reading!

2024.05.13 12:12 Wonder_Leslie How to make my hair less flat

My hair is kind of wavy and ever since I cut it short I have been trying to experiment with some hairstyle. My sister suggested me to use mousse to "define the shape better" (her words), but it's still very flat and I don't know how to make it a little more like the second picture. (I know the guy in the photo probably has longer hair than me, but I don't want his exact same style, just something similar (that isn't flat and doesn't stick to my forehead))

2024.05.13 09:27 AdSame8810 Fiancé did something , now I am getting a cold feet before the wedding.

So it involves my MIL in a way. She is a person who doesn’t do anything to look good. Very simple and mild get up whenever she goes out and it does match her tbh. But lately I have been asking her to change her get up for the wedding, maybe go to a parlour together, getting a hairstylist for the wedding. She is shy and denying it and I get it where all these come from. Yesterday, I found a DIL-MIL picture of someone I follow on Instagram and I showed it to my fiancé “saying that’s a MIL wow ngl I want my MIL same as her” which I accept came of as mean to him. I planned on showing it to my MIL as a inspo of her hairstyle on our wedding.
My fiancé got so pissed, he felt that I was insulting his mom , took a screenshot of the conversation and sent it to my dad saying I have been pinching him about his mom looks and get ups since a long time now. I was shocked to my core. Because I had no such intentions. I sent it to him and forgot about it too. I felt so hurt because he involved my parents in it. We fought a lot, so much that he told me I am a self obsessed person. Idk is something actually wrong with me or this is actually something wrong that I did. I am not able to wrap my head around the fact that he involved my parents in it. FYI it’s a love marriage, in a relationship with him since last 4 years.

First three wands I carved
I was least confident in the look of the first wand, but as I worked on it, it grew on me quickly with its snaking length, discolored mossy finish, a jagged spiral on the grip, and the amethyst crystal wedged into the pommel bound by a copper colored wrap to hold it in place. I fell in love with this wand, and just like magic… I’ve misplaced it lmao. I haven’t seen it for about a year at this point. I know I’ll never be able to recreate it but at least I can remember it with that picture. 🤷‍♀️

2024.05.13 05:02 Ok_Resolution_9417 AITA for sleeping with my boyfriends best man

Yes, you read that correctly and I know my life is a mess. I (22f) and my boyfriend (32 m) were in a exclusive relationship for a little more than a year. For the purpose of this story we will call him Cole. Cole was still legally married to his wife “Maggie” when I met him but were separated. Cole and Maggie were married for 4 years (together 7) and had 2 children. Here is some backstory on how we met in the first place. Cole and Maggie would frequent my job when I worked as a waitress at the local ale house. I never thought anything of this since I lived in a small town and this ale house was very popular. I would always say hello every time that I saw them and would carry on with my day. The last time that they came in together, I felt a very weird vibe coming from Maggie. I did not know her well enough to understand why there would be something wrong so I just ignored it. During that shift, Cole came up to me personally and said hello without Maggie. Again, didn’t really think much of it. A few weeks go by and I see that he added me on Snapchat. I accepted and since Snapchat was very common and I had several hundred friends, it was normal to be friends with everyone on the platform. He then messaged me and asked me what I was doing. I instantly asked him “aren’t you married?” and explained that it is not appropriate to message me. He kind of ignored the question and said he was with his friends and wanted to grab a beer and if I was working. I didn’t respond but at this time, I also had my Snapchat linked to my location (which I know was dumb) and the next thing I know he shows up at the ale house with his friends. We had a very casual conversation and he let me know that him and Maggie were separated. I didn’t ask why because it was none of my business. I always thought he was cute but since he was married, I never thought twice. Some time goes on and we start dating. I learned very shortly after we started dating that he told me that he could not stop thinking about me for 3 years and told Maggie. He said that they fought about him liking my Instagram photos, my Facebook, finances, infidelity, and a bunch of other things that ultimately resulted in their separation. But let me remind you, I have never hung out with this man, spoke to him, or even had his phone number but this would explain why I felt a coldness from her the last time I saw her. So as we are dating for about 6 months at this point, Maggie is refusing to sign the divorce papers and she starts posting pictures of Cole and I on her Instagram essentially calling me a homewrecker, husband thief, etc. while we are on vacation. This is not the first time she has done this. She and many of her friends would spam my social media calling me horrific names, make memes out me, and stalk my every move. She would blow up his phone constantly day and night and threaten him with their kids where it got to the point that he would do anything to appease her and prevent them from going to court for the kids. Maggie then decides to book a trip for her daughter’s birthday to Disney World and invited Cole and Cole’s mother. They would all be sharing a house together, which I was not comfortable with. However, I do understand if you have children this would be their best interest, but if you are separated and in a committed relationship, I do not think it is appropriate and he should of got a hotel. Of course during this trip, I can only imagine what happened or didn’t happen. Once Cole returned from the trip, I felt that things were a little off. He was being kind of secretive and I felt like was stringing Maggie and I along. Cole was currently living with our friend “Zach” at the time since he moved out of the house he shared with Maggie as soon as they separated. I spent a lot of time at Zach’s house and soon grew our own friendship. Cole wasn’t very fond that I would hang out at Zach’s house when he was not there but Zach became friends with myself and my sister and that was out of the question. One day, Zach invited his best friend who was also Cole’s best man in his wedding to Maggie over, his name was Jordan. Jordan and I immediately hit it off. From this point Cole was treating me pretty terribly and was verbally abusive but would refuse to break up even though he was being sneaky. Cole was very narcissistic and would do absolutely horrible things to me. For example, he texted my mother that I was so skinny from being strung out on drugs and he was so worried for me. My poor mom came to me knowing I am super healthy and this was clearly a tactic to put a wedge between us. A few days later Jordan one day asked me if I wanted to go to dinner as friends and get some margs. I accepted. Both Jordan and I had an amazing night and ended up drinking way too many margaritas. We had to Uber from the restaurant and he insisted I spent the night at his house. At this point, I had no idea where Cole was (I can guess Maggie’s) but he claimed that he spent the entire night looking for me (the lies). Cole created so many issues and drama with his personal life that Zach asked Cole to move out and he did. I continued to be friends with Zach and would hangout at his house. Fast-forward to a couple weeks later, Maggie’s friend Kaitlin sent me a nasty message, letting me know that we were both being two timed by Maggie’s soon-to-be-ex husband and Cole was sneaking around with Maggie and keeping me as his girlfriend and showed receipts. I was at Zachs house when I got these messages. Zach was currently away in Mexico and told me I could stay at his house if I wanted. So I had some friends over (Zach said yes of course) including Jordan when Cole showed up. It was about 8 people so it didn’t seem like something inappropriate was happening. I asked Cole if he wanted to hang out with us and he said no but told me Jordan had to leave. Based on the information that I knew, he was going to go stay with Maggie for the night and I was correct. This was confirmation for me to have fun and enjoy my time with Jordan and I did just that. The next morning….. It was about 7 AM when I heard loud banging on the bedroom door. At this point both Jordan and I were in bed and just looked at eachother with that “oh shit” kind of moment. We both were still definitely drunk from the night before when all of a sudden Cole literally breaks the door down and was recording? Lol I immediately ran into the bathroom and got dressed while Jordan and Cole had words. I confronted Cole and let him know that I knew that he was with Maggie last night and Jordan treated me better. That day ruined Jordan and Cole’s friendship forever and even though he was his best man, he shouldn’t have been cheating on me with his wife. AITA?

2024.05.13 03:49 No_Recognition7135 Help - new blonde

TLDR: I have no idea how to make my hair feel like my hair again now that I've gone blonde. It feels almost sticky on non wash days. Any ideas?

I have enjoyed coloring my hair for many years, but I've always been really lazy about it. I always go darker so when my hair starts to grow, it looks more natural and I don't have to worry so much about upkeep. I've changed my hairstyle a lot over the years, too, but usually end up with the same, chin to shoulder length bob with bangs of some kind.
I never really had any hair care education. I have very straight, fine, medium thickness, medium brown hair. For a long time, my routine was wash, brush, go. I am a single parent of a special needs child with a full time job. I wake up early, shower, make sure my kid is on the bus, go to work, come home, and spend time with my kid until bedtime when I crash. I have no time alone. It also didn't help that I was struggling with mental illness (still am but it's much more controlled) so I really didn't care.
A few years ago, I shaved my head. All the hair on my head now has never been touched by anything stronger than my shampoo. I never blow dried and I never used hairspray. I've also never had any body to my hair.
Fast forward to a couple months ago. I decided I wanted to color my hair again. I looked over pictures, spent time trying to decide what I want. I finally landed on going lighter since I've never done it before, and it would give me a good base to add more "fun" colors (pink tint, orange, something like that). I was fully aware going into it that my routine was going to change. I made the appointment, though I made the wrong kind of appointment, so there wasn't enough time to do the whole thing. She essentially did a partial highlight all over the top layers of my hair. I absolutely love it. I spent most of the appointment asking for some basic tips to help keep my hair as long as possible until my next appointment.
What I was not prepared for was how different my hair was going to feel. I figured it would be drier, but I wasn't entirely sure what that actually meant.
My hair care routine is different. I don't wash as often. I use purple shampoo once a week. I use a hair mask once a week. I wash twice a week. I blow dry most of the way, brush, then finish. In the morning, I brush and use a little texture spray. On non wash days, I use dry shampoo at night. I haven't really gotten much into styling yet, I'm just trying to learn how to keep it looking healthy and keep the color.
The major problem I'm running into is that my hair feels... sticky, I guess, for lack of a better word. On non wash days, it doesn't brush out very well, I try to be gentle and patient about it. I can't run my fingers through my hair like I always used to do, it's a stress tick and it's weird not being able to do it. It's got a lot more body now, which I love, and I love the color. I just wish it FELT better.
Long story long, I am looking for tips to get my hair to feel better on non wash days. Or at least knowing if this is just my life now haha. I have zero frame of reference for even where to begin.
Attached are some photos. The orange blazer is right before I got it colored. The black and white striped shirt is right after washing. The white and pink shirt is day two hair. The black and gray is day four hair. I rarely go out on day four so I don't usually do anything to it, today was my first time actually doing "day four hair."
I'm sorry for the super long post. One of my major flaws is being long winded haha!

2024.05.13 03:42 OriginalPapaya8 The Brazilian Fiat 147 and its derivatives. Long post ahead.

THE BEGINNING
The exclusive Fiat 147, which was directly derived from the European success 127, launched in 1971. The new car, according to the Italians, would fit like a glove to the needs that Brazilians had to get around in a country of continental dimensions: the small 147 was robust, with easy and simple mechanics and, at the same time, provided a low cost maintenance. Furthermore, it had significant fuel economy when compared to other national cars of the time.
Perhaps due to its very compact external dimensions in relation to what was known, the new Fiat car left Brazilians with some insecurity, because, when looking at the national market, it was really compact, which made people think it was a frail and unreliable car.
THE ENGINE AND OTHER THINGS
Initially the compact received the FIASA engine (Fiat Automóveis S.A) which had a displacement of 1,050 cc yielding 55 hp (SAE) which led it to having a 0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph time of 18,8 seconds and a top speed of 135 km/h or 83 mph but most importantly, the fuel consumption was incredible: 12.3 km/l or 28.9 mpg in the city and 18.8 km/l or 44.2 mpg on the highway. In relation to the Italian 127, the Brazilian car had a more robust body, with more welding points, a fully independent suspension, being independent McPherson strut with coil springs at the front and transverse leaf spring at the rear, things that were necessary to face the harsh and mostly unpaved Brazilian roads. To showcase the new car and shut down the doubts of potential buyers a bold marketing campaign was launched where the little car descended and ascended the 365 steps of the staircase of the Penha church (RJ), famous for the promises of its faithful, without any type of special preparation, showcasing its reliability. In 1979 the ethanol version was launched, making this the first car to use this fuel type in the world, due to the modifications necessary to use this fuel the horsepower increased to 62 hp. Thanks to the burning of ethanol, this version let out a smell that resembled distilled drinks, which earned the car the nickname “Cachacinha”, which is the diminutive of the word “Cachaça” Brazil’s national distilled beverage.
SMALL EXTERIOR, BIG INTERIOR
The 147’s external size was very deceptive, measuring 3.62 m or 11’10” long, 1.54 m or 5’ wide, 1.35 m or 4’5” tall and having a wheelbase of 2.22 m or 7’3”, the car was smaller than the VW Beetle, but thanks to its masterful use of space and and the engine mounted in a transverse position, something never seen in any Brazilian car up to that time, made the interior space and trunk larger than that of its competitors, the trunk had a 352 liter or 12,43 cubic feet of capacity, which was helped by the fact that the spare tire was placed on top of the engine and thus didn't took any space away from the luggage.
DESIGN / FACELIFTS / NEW GENERATIONS
EUROPA FACELIFT (Picture 2): In 1980, the Fiat 147 underwent its first visual restyling, which was concentrated especially on its front. The new front of the hatch had a look that followed the trend of the time, marked by the wedge-shaped hood, the new slightly inclined engine cooling grille, and the polypropylene plastic bumpers that, depending on the version, could be painted in black or grey, the steering lights are now integrated next to the headlights, meanwhile, the side stripes of the sports versions are replaced by side rubbers, while at the rear the only novelty is the new license plate lighting set. With this update, the front of the car became known as the European Front. On a side note, the basic trim level still had the same visual style as the first version up until 1982.
SPAZIO FACELIFT (Picture 3): In 1983 the Spazio restyling brought new features such as new plastic bumpers with a wraparound design, new headlights, new amber direction lights, a new brand logo, on its side it featured new direction repeaters on the fenders, new plastic moldings and new wheels, at the rear the Spazio version had a larger rear window and new, thinner and longer tail lights. Inside, the new features included a new dashboard with a more modern design, a new instrument panel with information such as: speedometer, coolant temperature and fuel level, as well as warning lights.
VARIANTS
FURGONETA: This was the cargo version of the 147, which was nothing more than a 147 without the rear seats and rear windows. On the inside, this version gained a dividing grille to prevent objects in the cargo compartment from being thrown against passengers in the event of an accident or sudden braking.
147 PICK-UP / FIORINO: In 1979, the first compact pickup truck derived from a passenger car, the Fiat 147 Pick-Up, was launched. The pickup used the same platform as the 147 hatch, which resulted in a small bucket with a curious lid that opened to the side. Despite being small, the pickup can carry up to 420 kilos of cargo and could either be equipped with the 1050 cc engine or the 1300 cc one. In 1981, the Fiat 147 pickup was updated, now called Fiat Fiorino, the pickup uses the same platform as the recently launched Panorama, and with the old front, the pickup became larger and had its suspension reinforced to support the new capacity of 500 kg or 1102,31 lbs of load. Other than that, it's worth highlighting the new vertical taillights that allow the pickup to have a larger lid that can open downwards.
FIORINO CARGO VAN: In 1981 the cargo van version was launched, based on the pickup truck, this version was called Fiat Fiorino Furgão. This van stood out for several reasons, including its good load capacity of 2700 liters or 95.34 cubic feet, the two large doors that opened to the sides and the small cargo compartment above the cabin.
PANORAMA STATION WAGON: In addition to the restyling, 1980 was marked by the launch of the Panorama station wagon. Available only in the C and CL versions and equipped with the 1300 cc engine, the Fiat Panorama stood out for its appearance, which already had the restyled front, the large glass area, and the great internal space, thanks to its length 18 cm or 7 inches greater than the hatch, another detail that increased its internal space was the projection on the roof that increased headroom for rear seat occupants. Regarding luggage, this station wagon had a trunk with a capacity of up to 669 liters or 23.62 cubic feet, which could be increased to 1440 liters or 50.85 cubic feet by folding the rear seats.
OGGI SALOON: In 1983 the sedan version of the 147, the Oggi, was launched. Being only available in the CL version, it had qualities such as good interior space and a spacious trunk of 450 liters or 15.8 cubic feet.
TRIM LEVELS
Initially there was only one level available, L but just a bit later two new trim levels were added, the basic version that didn't have a denomination and the top trim level called GL, leaving the L version as the middle of the road level.
147 GL: The GL level had things such as chrome exterior details and new special wheels, a velvety lined interior, front seats with reclining backrest and headrest, tilting lid for the trunk, new exclusive steering wheel and new gauge cluster that had a coolant temperature marker in addition to the speedometer and fuel gauge.
147 GSL: In 1979 a new, more sophisticated version was unveiled, the GLS, the GLS version had external details such as a thin black stripe marking its entire side, the name of the version on both sides of the hood, black door handles, a new brand emblem in the center of the engine grille, as well as chrome bumpers with large rubber bands and rectangular headlights located above the front bumper. Inside, this version featured velvet upholstery, three-point seat belts on the front seats, headrests for rear seat occupants, three-spoke steering wheel, more complete instrument panel with tachometer as well as speedometer, temperature gauge engine and fuel level marker and two more circular markers in the center of the panel with an oil pressure gauge and analog clock. The Fiat 147 GLS had the new 1.3 engine that developed 61 horsepower.
147 RALLYE: That same year the Rallye version with a sporty appeal was released. This version differed from the others by presenting details such as side stripes with the name of the version, wheels painted in black and silver, black bumpers with a spoiler on the front bumper and a small black air intake on the interior cooling grille. Inside, it featured an all-black interior with wraparound front seats that had headrests integrated into them, a sports steering wheel and the same instrument panel as the GLS version. The engine was the same 1.3 as the GLS version, however, thanks to the double barrel carburetor, its power increased to 72 horsepower.
FIORINO CITY: In 1982, Fiat Fiorino gained a new version, the City, a version that was not aimed at work but aimed at a younger audience, it had a touch of sportiness, this one had the new Europa front and a better interior finish.
147 C: This was the new naming for the previous basic version, this version had the novelty of having the same front as the other trim levels.
147 CL: This is basically the previous L middle trim levels version.
147 Top: This is the new name for the GLS version. This was the only version changed. It had details such as plastic appliqués on the sides, the name of the version on both sides of the hood, wheels painted black and silver, front bumper with spoiler, fog lights, rear window wiper and as an option: sunroof. Inside, this version brought even more luxury and sophistication with the same dashboard and steering wheel as the Panorama CL, reclining front seats and a split rear seat.
147 Racing: The 147 rallye version was replaced by this version called Racing. This version had basically the same look as the Top version, with the addition of a small wing at the rear of the roof that brought improvements in performance and fuel economy. Inside, this version differed by having a lower steering column, resulting in a more vertical steering wheel position, in addition to the new four-spoke sports steering wheel, the front seats with high backs and covered in black vinyl with the front part in gray flocked velvet.
147 TR: In 1983 the new sports version of the 147 was launched, the 147 TR. The Fiat 147 TR's appearance was marked by long-range headlights and a rear with two spoilers, one on the roof and the other on the trunk lid below the glass. The interior had high backrest seats, and a dashboard with a rev counter, voltmeter and oil pressure gauge.
OGGI CSS: In 1984, the performance version of the Fiat Oggi, the Oggi CSS, was launched. This version had an exclusive 1400 cc engine powered by ethanol that developed 78 horsepower and 11.2 kgm of torque. The look received several changes such as front deflector, side skirts, wing over the trunk lid, deflector at the end of the roof, as well as auxiliary headlights, exclusive stickers and new aluminum wheels. Its ride height was also lower, the rear suspension was firmer and its clutch was new and made to make the sedan more sporty. Inside, the Oggi received the dashboard and four-spoke steering wheel from the 147 TR.

Small but deep retaining wall help - what to do with interesting sewer trap pipe placement?
Hi all,
I recently bought my first house, which has a shall we say unique front entryway and a black sewer trap pipe (next to the green house). Do you have any DIY suggestions for a tiered retaining wall or something else? I am very handy with electrical and carpentry but I don’t have experience with calculating soil loads against structures and general do’s/don’t’s. Here was my initial thinking:
  • Check the depth of the landing posts and how they’re being supported
  • If moving dirt near the house won’t destabilize the posts, remove all dirt outlined in red
  • Get interlocking retaining wall bricks and create a three-tiered retaining wall planter
  • Tier 1 is 5-feet tall, Tier 2 is 3 feet tall, Tier 3 is 1 foot tall (space them so the sewer trap pipe is in the Tier 2 area
  • Fill each tier with gravel, then sand for drainage
  • Backfill each tier with the excavated soil (will probably assess what I’m working with and amend the soil a bit depending on what I plant, may stick with hostas this year to reduce costs)
  • Replant hostas and add some aged bark mulch
  • Get a garden hose extender and put the garden hose into a reel box at the bottom of the stairwell
  • Get a garden gnome or something funny to put over the sewer trap pipe
Key questions: - Do I need to do anything else to support adequate drainage? I don’t see any drainage issues - Any materials you love or would stay away from at Lowe’s? - Any unique considerations I need to be aware of for upstate NY like frost wedging? - What am I not thinking about that I should be
Thank you in advance for any advice, pictures, etc. I can afford up to $2k in materials and rentals but I cannot afford to hire labor so assume 3 adults with limited landscaping experience are doing the job.
