Home of the Tunisian crochet "Stitch of the Week" series started right here on Reddit on August 8 2020! Tunisian crochet is a craft that uses longer hooks than standard crochet hooks. It makes a thicker, spongier, softer fabric than normal crochet.

Please correct me if I'm looking in the wrong areas but I wondered if anyone else watches Gogglebox UK and knows what patterns Alison knits/crochets? Or if there's podcasters/youtubers/social media/bloggers that I can follow who make similar items!
I'm just looking for colourful big patterns I guess! She gives me arty mum vibes and I love it!

2024.05.13 22:34 TheFlute20 Lack of tension control

Hi! I’m currently learning to crochet again (I’ve been doing the wrong technique for half a decade!) but I’m really struggling to control tension. I always need to yank the yarn when I get too close to my finger, meaning everything is either very tight or very loose. If I try and put the yarn in a position on the little finger so that it can slide in easily then i pull too much and it’s all too loose. Are there any tips for doing this, it’s very frustrating when you know you could do it fine your normal way!

Need some one skein ideas - Lion Brand Mandala yarn
Hello! I got a couple of skeins of mandala yarn, two different colors, for mothers day from my kids. I'm usually crocheting blankets with weight 5+, so I don't have many one skein patterns in my repertoire, or familiarity with smaller yarns. Any fun/interesting patterns for these? Free or paid recommendations welcome 😊

2024.05.13 21:49 Icy5856 Compact sewing machine for travel?

I'm currently looking for options for sewing while traveling. Nothing too big, just more simple small things while on the go. l'm not sure if I should just lug around my main sewing machine, or if there's a more compact option to use while traveling insteac that can fit in a backpack/small box. I often have to go up and down stairs to get to my destination
*Edit to add that I would be sewing fabric to crochet yarn projects

2024.05.13 21:46 BAPyogi Can stitch markers cause ladders? And other beginner Qs.

Hi I am a new knitter, working on my 3rd pair of socks. I have been dealing with ladders and have made adjustments accordingly (switching from 2 cable needles to 9 inch shorties has helped so much!) but I have noticed that when using stitch markers, they can cause a little bit of laddering. Is this a thing or not really? Does this mean I’m a tight knitter?
Another question - I want to make a hat and I have a yarn from my stash in mind. The pattern calls for DK weight and I have fingering. I’ve heard you can mix two yarns together to get to the bigger weight, what can I add to the fingering to make it DK weight? Or any other tips for what yarn would be good to mix with the fingering that looks nice but not itchy on the forehead?
And last question - I want to make my first sweater, I am comfortable with increasing and decreasing, short rows, German short rows, Kitchener stitch, etc. I would say I am a motivated and ambitious beginner not afraid of a challenge, and I have support in person if necessary for mistakes etc. So I feel confident in making my first sweater and I love PetiteKnit on Ravelry. If anyone is familiar with the Petiteknit patterns, the ones I’m interested in are the cumulus blouse, marble sweater, louvre sweater, or Wednesday sweater. If anyone has any input on which of these would be a better fit for a first sweater I would really appreciate it!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and help a newbie with her new hobby!

Raglan - what is the next step?
Hi! Im trying to knit a raglan shirt without a pattern. I have done one before, but somehow my mind is going blank at what the next step should be.
Im knitting up - down, and I have just increased as long as to my shoulders (see my horrible drawing). But what is the next step? I have some memory about putting the sleeves on a piece of yarn? Should I knit one side at a time (front then back) or can I knit around?
Kindly don't need help finding a pattern. I like the adventure (:

2024.05.13 21:15 Elisa_LaViudaNegra Is there a pattern out there for something like this matching set?

Is there a pattern out there for something like this matching set?
I peeped this in Anthropologie and arrogantly thought, “I could totally make this.” I have this thought frequently in Anthropologie.
The skirt has a solid band around an elastic waist. I’d want to add a liner so my underoos aren’t visible through the gaps. The thread felt like cotton yarn but I know it doesn’t have very much give, so the measurements and my tension would have to be spot on.
Anyone know of any patterns out there for something like this? Thanks!

2024.05.13 21:01 walmartcanadian How to prevent twisting?

How to prevent twisting?
Hi everyone! I'm new to crocheting, could anyone help me figure out what's happening here?
I wanted to make a little harness for my cat (he's obsessed with going outside, lol). I've been following a pattern on YouTube but I can't figure out how to prevent this twisting. It's 4 stitches, a single crochet into each stitch, with 1 chain on each end to turn, and then just keep going until I reach the correct length for my cat's neck. In the video, it doesn't twist at all! I'm really confused.
Any help is very much appreciated! ♥️

2024.05.13 20:47 bonkersforever Bluey merch could be so much better

What I actually want:
What I get:
I'm glad they finally made a Bob Bilby puppet at least. Also, I wanted a Chattermax. Yes, I know he's based off a Furby, but I want the Bluey version dammit!
What merch would you go for? I feel like the quality of the show is so high, but the merch all sucks.
