I've never had a pleasant experience with any Microsoft product in my life.

1. Their 2FA application is unnecessarily complicated to set up and never sends my Authenticator app the number on the first try. I have to select the option to get my authentication number a different way, then re-select the option to send a number to my phone, and only then do I get both numbers in my app (at which point the first set of numbers is already expired, anyways).
   
2. My Outlook reminders show up on the wrong monitor, show up for meetings I haven't RSVP'd, show up for coworkers' OOO notifications, or don't show up the one time I'm occupied by IntelliJ and forget an important meeting.
   
3. The Edge application on my phone often refuses to open. Just gets stuck on "Checking your data organization's requirements..."
   
4. Teams. TEAMS. Fucking Teams. COCKSUCKING FUCKING WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT FUCKING TEAMS. What the fuck is wrong with the code snippet inclusion in Teams? Why can't I introduce more than one line of code with backticks? Why can't code snippets introduced with backticks include syntax highlighting? When I do attach a code snippet with syntax highlighting, why the fuck does it need to include a big ass bold title? What if I don't want to title my code snippet? Why is the search utter dogshit and completely useless?
   
5. What the fuck is the point of the Teams update that forces you to get an entirely new app if the new app is still dogshit?
   
6. I had just joined a Teams meeting on my computer, and the app crashed my entire OS literally seconds before my name was called. Even after a force restart, it would still refuse to join the meeting on my laptop. I had to join via phone. THANKS MICROSOFT!!!
   

Man, even just trying to buy Minecraft for my little cousin, I had to spend 30 minutes to go and figure out why the fuck Microsoft 365 wouldn't let him log in to the game I had bought.
I'm really supposed to believe these "people" are going to steward the next golden age of AI into redefining all of software? If there's one thing that's saving us from an AI apocalypse, it's the guarantee that once OpenAI's work leaves their SF research lab, gets commercialized, and enters long-term support, the geniuses over at Redmond are going to drive it into the fucking ground. The Terminators will be at the gates of Washington with guns drawn and then, I promise you, their leader is going to blurt out "[ERR01XQ5R]: Something went wrong." and then they're all going to short circuit and shut down.
When I leave my company, I'm for sure applying to Microsoft. Based on my experience, I am confident I will be paid handsomely to sit around, do nothing, and have zero accountability to actually deliver functional software.

i was rejected from all 8 US universities i applied to this cycle (PhD in english literature). i did get waitlisted at 3 of them, but was ultimately rejected. i am extremely dejected and disappointed, and the thought of having to apply again --- to look up universities, mailing profs, edit my writing samples --- is so daunting and demotivating. i feel like i am setting myself up for failure.
does anyone have any advice on what i can do better? i have had good grades throughout my bachelor's and master's,, but i don't have any publications. i have about 3 years of volunteer teaching work for NGOs that i did during my bachelors, but i don't have teaching experience at a formal institutions. i do believe in my research proposal, it is something i have wanted to work on for as far as i can remember, and i am really passionate and confident about it.
as an international student, spending thousands of USD on application fees, english proficiency tests etc and it not amounting to anything is a huge financial burden. people who have gotten offers during their second or third application cycle, what did you do differently the second/third time around ? how did you stand out? should i apply to universities in europe & australia as well this time ? how should i move forward ?

Today I've relied almost entirely on pre-pumped milk, extended with formula (in roughly a 2/3rds milk, 1/3 formula mix). And my anxiety is SO down, I'm sipping a glass of wine, baby napping easily in his carrier...I feel like I can breathe! Why is it so HARD to let myself have a break like this??
I began my BF journey thinking 'I'll do it at least 3 mo, and aspire to 6', but the more I read the more I learned the health benefits, and once I actually had the baby, I saw for myself how challenging it can be (or at least feel) to build and maintain supply. Soon I was caught up in a world of stressful cluster feeding, pumping in off moments, sudden appearance of a slacker boob, etc. By chance, a friend without children was wrongly delivered a sample of formula, so I had 2 sample formula cans kicking around that I mostly ignored...I felt like the formula was taunting me, and scorned it as inferior. A failure of my supply!
Anyways, my baby boy is only 9 wks now and the past week he's been cluster feeding during the day (probably a result of his sleep becoming more consolidated). This cluster feeding was causing LO to get really upset from around 3pm - 7pm, where he'd be crying too much to latch, and it's not always clear if the issue is intestinal, him being over-tired (he doesn't always nap well), or him being hungry. I'd get just as frustrated as him, and have many moments of having to put the baby down and leave the room. Which...I never thought would be me, but there I was. And today we had to go to the US embassy (I live abroad) to register his birth, with an appt too early to do a full feed for assuming his usual sleep pattern, so I knew I needed at least 6oz bottle ready for us, to feed on the bus (he's a greedy bottle eater!) if I wanted him in a good mood for the embassy. I hadn't pumped enough overnight, so had no choice but to supplement with formula.

After that spritely start to the morning, I had less inhibition supplementing the rest of the day. And thus it's now with my break, and a glass of wine XD, I finally see what about his afternoon feeding situation was getting me so frustrated/angry. When he's too upset to latch, I had always been self aware enough to realize that my irritation stemmed from (a) I don't know what too do, and (b) I feel on some subliminal level like he's rejecting my breast/milk, and because that milk takes so much effort, it really triggers something. But you can 'known' a thing, and not 'feel' a thing. Today in the same situation I just giving him 'fortified' breast milk... and... a fraction of the stress. It was SO clear just how much (b) was really getting to me. I'd already figured out (a) after the first few days--I could usually calm him down eventually by humming on a yoga ball holding him, taking him outside, start the 'latch' on the yoga ball...but it was stressful and I was already frustrated by then. And concerned about 'my supply'. He's in a velcro stage (only naps in a carrier during day) so it's hard to get time to pump, and I would tell myself that I needed to persist. That if I just caved and gave him bottle he'd start to have 'bottle preference', and get even worse at latching, and my supply would fail and... and... the world would end.
But... so what? Yes, I might need to switch to pumping--have prepumped milk ready for him and pump more while I feed him bottle. Yes I might have to use formula. Yes that's demoralizing on some animal level. But mental health is important. Feeling mad at my baby is bad. So I'm revising my goals:
- aspire to not giving the baby formula ALONE as opposed to mixed with breast milk (bc my parents lectured me that as an infant I started to prefer formula once I tasted it alone) - put effort into maintaining supply through 3 mo (ie, pump when I can) - continue BF in some capacity through 6mo, and beyond. It's super handy when out and about, in restaurants, etc, and still conveys antibodies! But it's 'ok' if I supplement more as i go along, if I'm stressed out!

Hey everyone, I really could use some advice.
So, for some context: Me and my partner have been together for 4 years now. 1.5 years ago, we changed countries and are still adjusting to our new lifestyle in a way. We came from a poorer country, and now we finally have a better life in general.
I (25F) came with a permanent contract, and he (27M) came with a fixed-term contract (1y), my salary being the highest salary by a large margin. So, for a while, I was already being the main provider, which is totally fine with me. In the meanwhile, we managed to save some money, but just enough so that if anything happens, we have some back-up.
Now, to the current situation: He has been unemployed for the past 5 months, and it was really tough for us. He started getting really moody, and the first 1-2 months were completely hellish. However, after leaving his job, he realized how he felt so unappreciated by his previous bosses and I suggested that maybe it was good to have a break and get some education (which was an opportunity he had never had previously and I wanted him to experience it too). He gave it some thought, and decided to apply for a bachelor, and thankfully, he got in! Very happy for him for that.
The problem starts here: I was always very vocal about how I preferred that he found a part-time and studied full-time, or the opposite, to ensure we could maintain our heads afloat. What I didn't know was that he actually never thought much about this, and that his goal is to focus only on studying for the next 3 years.
His perspective is, and I quote: "If I find a full-time job until my university starts, fine. If not, I'll just study." I have asked what about summer jobs, part-time jobs or even internships, and he always seems to dismiss it and say that there's nothing for him, and that you need to know the local language to get those, etc. In these 5 months, there was absolutely no effort on his side to learn the local language, he has been playing games and doom scrolling for most of his day. Sends some applications here and there, and that's it. Lately, and after being accepted for university, the number of applications sent is almost getting to 5 per week.
This has become concerning to me, because it means I will be the only one handling everything for 3 years. I want to be a supportive partner like I have been so far but his lack of interest in getting a job is making my belly twist, specially considering we have made great efforts to get him stuff he wants (e.g: his first car) and that when we talked about it before he got accepted, he seemed to be really motivated to do that.
We have argued about this, and he's pissed, saying that he thought he could count on me and apparently that has changed. The one friend I have told this to says I'm being dumb and that he would never put his girlfriend in this position, but I don't really know.

As the title says, I’ve been looking for another job for over a year - started my search in April 2023.
Currently employed and working as a senior complaints investigator for a financial services company. I’ll have been here 2 years in July. Previous experience was in telecommunications, also dealing with complaints and basically everything else for 3 years.
Decided to start looking elsewhere when I realised how overworked and underpaid I was. Certain members of my team were getting paid a lot more, despite doing the same job. I came in as the “underdog” and worked my backside off to become one of the stronger performers of the team because I was assured that I’d be well rewarded for it, come April pay-rise time. I, being rather naive back then, believed them and when they didn’t follow through, I decided I no longer wanted to work here. That, along with the countless examples of this company being very shady and dismissive of their employees.
I’ve been applying to jobs nonstop since then. Mostly complaints/compliance/administrative roles because I like the role. Ideally, I’d love to progress into an AML analyst-type role but it seems like no one wants to give me a chance.
Probably submitted around 500+ applications and landed less than 10 interviews. Been contacted by dozens of recruiters, telling me my CV is “perfect”. Part of the struggle is that I’m located in the north west and while I’m open to relocation, my options are mainly Manchester or Liverpool. The trouble is, there isn’t a lot going for these types of roles around here. And the ones who do have these roles available, seem to enjoy ghosting people.
I know I’m lucky to have a job in this economic climate. And it’s a hybrid role, which seems quite rare to find these days. While I’m quite desperate to leave this company for a multitude of reasons, I’m not about to downgrade to a job that pays less and offers worse working conditions.
But it’s been over a year now and I’m tired. I feel disheartened when I check LinkedIn and Reed everyday, apply to something that seems suitable, only to be rejected and ghosted. I really don’t know what to do anymore and it seems like quite a few others are in the same boat.
I know no company or corporation is perfect but I also know that there are many that will actually treat me with some kind of respect and dignity.
I’m just stuck and mentally exhausted.

I'm in a language school on a student visa. It lasts until september and my plan was to extend to July 2025 and then find work in the country.
In February I had a health emergency and went to the hospital in the back of an ambulance. Because of this I missed a LOT of class, even though I had good attendance before that. Now I'm being told by my school that my chance of getting a visa extension is almost zero because of my attendance (they reported me to immigration since I missed a lot of class in a small window)
I'm devastated and feel completely lost. I don't know what to do.
I signed a lease for a 2 year apartment. I understand my contract likely has a clause for leaving early, but I was planning to be here long-term.
I'm sitting here feeling extremely depressed and just need advice. My extension application isn't until July but I'm wondering if I should even do it anymore.
Also, will this affect my chances of getting a work visa in the future? Will they just shoot me down even if a company wants to sponsor me? A few initial google searches are telling me that I will never work in this country for the rest of my life because of this one uncontrollable incident, but I'd like to hear it from others...

Hi, I'm in the process of taking over an apartment lease but the whole process is making me a little nervous. I found a great apartment through CL. The current resident is looking to leave and wants someone to assume the last 4 months of her contract. Here would be the process:

• add me as a roommate to her contract by signing a new contract. (I have already been approved, haven't signed anything)
  
• I pay her 1/2 the security deposit
  
• she would move out prior to me moving in
  

-we would transfer utilities and Internet to my name
-after a little bit, we would sign a roommate release form together making me the sole tenant
A few things make me nervous. One, the management at her company has been ridiculously hard to work with (losing my application, documents, the keys to the apartment, etc). The other is that she has been really pushy with me, asking me to pay her the full security deposit (before I negotiated it to half) as evidence that I was "ready and certain" to take over the lease before I'd even signed a contract. She also suggested that if the apartment wouldn't allow us to mov forward with the contract, I could help her pay her lease break fee (!) and we could find a place to rent together (!) Also, every communication she has had with her management has involved a lie or phrased in a way to obscure the truth...shes told them we want to switch utilities to me to "build my credit", that we're moving in together to "save for a house," and that having me as a roommate would help "reduce her move out costs." She has also assured me that she likes to be truthful and upfront with people, having worked in rental management herself. Obviously, she is not being truthful and upfront with her property management and it makes me nervous I'm going to be screwed over if I move forward with this. Am I being rational?

I’m a high level, I have all the guns and strategem upgrades. I like to jump into low level games (3-5) that have a active sos and save the day ( as it’s been done for me). I had gotten my hardest looking heavy suit and was jointing a sos. Soon as I get dropped down. I clear the exfill and respawn everyone from zero lives, then I get all their samples and I’m ready to leave. There have been an increasing number of juniors visiting this sub asking for advice about writing essays. Below are some tips and advice for making your essay stand out as excellent. Feel free to ask questions because I will answer every single question in the comments.
I know from experience that many of you are struggling to identify a good topic for your essay. Conventional wisdom says to start by brainstorming a list of potential topics, and chances are, you have already started a mental list of ideas. You might think you only have a few choices for topics, based on your activities or experiences, or essay examples you read, or the rough draft you already started (or worse, that GPT started...). I advise, however, that you put down your list of topics and back away from it. Forget that exists for a moment. Seriously - thinking about this initial list tethers you to certain ideas that might not actually be your best options.
Now you can begin brainstorming with a clean slate.
Start with thinking about what you want to show in your entire application, not just one essay. Every single component in your app has one purpose – to tell more about YOU. Filling out the rest of the application by rote and focusing solely on the essay is short-sighted and will leave so much potential untapped in your application.

It's About You. Tell Your Story - And Be The Protagonist

An admissions officer’s goal is to understand you fully, in the context of your background and the rest of the applicant pool. They will begin this with assessing your academic abilities and potential. Then they will evaluate how you will fit into the student body they’re trying to curate. All of this can be somewhat broad and diverse and touch on several institutional goals. But they will dig deep to find out what each applicant is like, what your core values and motivations are, what kind of student you will be, how you will contribute to the vibrant and intellectual campus community they’re building, etc.
Your goal with essay brainstorming is to ascertain how to powerfully tell your story in a manner that will fit these criteria. The entirety of your application (again, not just one essay) aims to showcase your abilities, qualifications, and uncommon attributes as a person in a positive way. Before you begin outlining or writing your application, you must determine what is unique about you that will stand out to an admissions panel. All students are truly unique. Not one other student has the same combination of life experiences, personality, passions, or goals as you do. Your job in your application is to frame your unique personal attributes in a positive and compelling way. How will you fit on campus? What personal qualities, strengths, core values, talents, or different perspectives do you bring to the table? What stories, deeper motivations/beliefs, or formative experiences can you use to illustrate all of this?
It is always helpful to start with some soul-searching or self-examination. You might not immediately know what you want to share about yourself. It’s not a simple task to decide how to summarize your whole life and being in a powerful and eloquent way on your application. Introspection prior to starting your application takes additional time and effort rather than jumping straight into your first draft. But it is also a valuable method to start writing a winning application that stands out from the stack.
You'll see the advice everywhere that all essay prompts are really about the same thing - you. The goal of each essay then is to showcase who you are, what matters to you, and how you think. I guarantee if you're on this sub enough, you'll hear the advice to "show, don't tell" when writing about yourself. But what does this mean really, and how do you do it well? How do you even get started on an essay that does this?

Introspection Questions

It’s often easiest to start thinking in terms of superlatives, especially those related to personal insights -- what are the most meaningful things about you, and what do you value the most? Here is a list of questions to help you brainstorm broadly before you narrow down your focus for writing:

• What are your interests?
  
• What sparks your curiosity?
  
• About what topics do you enjoy reading?
  
• With whom do you enjoy spending time? Who has impacted your life the most?
  
• Reflect upon “superlatives” in your life. What moments were most memorable, formative, enlightening, enjoyable, or valuable? What physical possessions, experiences, dreams, or lessons could make your superlatives list?
  
• Stop and think about what things, people, or circumstances in your life are really unique, fascinating, or outlandish. Are there any that really have a lot of "cultural flavor" (whatever your culture is)?

Find Your Story And Arc

Think of a small anecdote or story from your life that you could share that serves as a microcosm of who you are and what is important to you. It will massively help you narrow this down and find a gem of a story if you first start by thinking about your application arc or theme. This is the one-phrase summary of your entire application. It could be "brilliant entrepreneur who started her own successful business" or "talented athlete who wants to study economics and finance as they pertain to sports", or even "avid baker whose hobby sparked an interest in chemistry". It doesn't have to be related to your intended major, but it can help your arc be stronger and clearer if it is.
Once you have an arc determined and a story to share, think about what you want that story to say about you. This is where it can help to think of this as something you would share on a date - what impression does it make about you to the reader? Once you know this, start showing, not telling this attribute of yourself through your story. For example, instead of saying that you're compassionate toward others, you show an example of a time you were compassionate, then elaborate on why, and what it means to you.

Essay Brainstorming Techniques

If you are having trouble finding a story, or simply have writer’s block once you have picked your topic, here are some ideas to get your juices flowing:

• Stream of consciousness writing -- Start writing whatever is in your head, and don’t stop for 30 minutes. You probably won’t use what you just wrote for your essay, but it will help you find a starting point.
  
• Journaling -- Answer the prompt as if you were writing in a journal. This will get you in the habit of writing about yourself and establish comfort with the concept. It will also take you to a new level of introspection and self-awareness.
  
• Twitter X style -- Write several rapid-fire responses to the prompt in 280 characters or less. Choose an idea from these responses to expound upon in your essay.
  
• Read each essay prompt, then go through your introspection worksheet responses and connect the stories and insights to one or more of the prompts. Some students like using color coding to visually see how their different ideas might work together.
  

Why Essays Matter

Here's the thing a lot of people don't realize about college admission: it's not an award for being the smartest, most accomplished, or most impressive. It's an invitation to join a community. Far too many students think that if they can just show that they're smart enough, they'll get in. Yale even says right on their admissions website that 75% of their applicants are academically qualified to succeed at Yale. But only ~4% are getting in. That should tell you that they're looking for more than just top tier test scores and grades. To be perfectly clear, you will need top tier grades and (optionally) test scores to show that you're qualified, and the vast majority of my students come to me with this part already in the bank. But what sets the admits apart? It's personal insight - sharing who you are, how you think, what matters to you, and how you engage community. You can't just say "/IAmVerySmart, please admit me," or even "I did a cool thing guys! Isn't that neat!" You need to go deeper and show them your core values, personal strengths, motivations, aspirations, character traits, foundational beliefs, personality, etc. And you need to do it in a charming, winsome way that makes them like you and want to invite you to join their community.
So how do I get students to do this? All of my students complete that introspection worksheet. We go through it and find the stories, examples, anecdotes, conversations, memories, relationships, and other things from their life that will help us craft a strong and personally insightful narrative. We also make lists of the values, strengths, and key personal qualities we want to showcase. Once we have some topics, outlines, abstracts, or rough drafts, we talk about which stories to tell where, how to tell them well, and what details to include to present the best they have to offer. Then we refine, edit, polish, and enhance over and over until the story sings, but more importantly shows their heart and soul. We also go through all the other application components to ensure consistency, quality, and distinctiveness.
Here's why this works so well: at most highly selective colleges there is a primary reader (or 2-3) who will review everything first and then present it to the admissions committee, who then votes on whether to admit you. That presentation typically goes one of three ways:

1. Total enthusiasm, energy, and excitement. They strongly advocate for admission and paint a clear picture of how you will contribute to their goals and community. Everyone in the room picks up on that energy and is leaning forward in their chairs, looking for reasons to admit you. This is quite rare, generally less than 5 out of every 100 applications, even among those which are "fully qualified." When you do this right, you show depth, meaning, and valuable personal insights so the reviewer is learning about who you are and how you might engage the community they're curating. You come alive off the page as a person, not just another file.
   
2. Business as usual. You're another great applicant in a pile of great applicants. They share a basic review of the facts, your profile, stats, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Maybe someone on the committee finds something they love, and they really push for admission. More likely, not and you get deferred/waitlisted even though there wasn't anything "wrong" with your application. They just didn't love you enough to commit.
   
3. "Here's a stack of 20 applications that I didn't find all that compelling, so we won't present them individually, but you guys are the committee and you make the decisions. So let me know if there are any you want to talk about." In this case, unless there's a letter of endorsement from an athletics coach or your last name matches several buildings on campus, you're probably not getting additional consideration, much less admission. They will regret to inform you.
   

Everything we're doing is designed to help them get to know themselves, present the best they have to offer, and land in that first group. Having top tier essays is the single best way to get there. Get started on brainstorming in the next few weeks so you'll have time to get a few essays completed over the summer.

To the people who were and are English graduate students, and this question also goes to History students as my education also got me a degree in History (emphasis on Ancient History), how did you all best prepare for your (English or History) graduate application? When we reached out to them, they seemed apathetic, as though they had gone through first contact dozens, hundreds of times by now, even though our studies had indicated they were not in contact with any members inside the Galactic Community nor outside of it… Nor any other Uncontacted civilization. They didn’t react when we displayed our FTL tech, they didn’t seem fazed by the sheer size of the Galactic Community and its denizens, they didn’t care when we brought our warships into their home system alongside our delegation as a show of strength.
The Humans simply took our greeting, some FTL communications tech, and in exchange, offered our leave. Now, this was most unusual of uplifting. True, the Humans were the most advanced of any pre-FTL civilization we’ve encountered so far, but even our technology would be enough to get them to come groveling for our resources. From what we gathered, the General populous of the Sol System also seemed quite unfazed, our first contact only creating small blurbs in the media before immediately focusing back on the carnage of the so-called “Second Neptune Succession” armed conflict, which seemed to be of much greater importance to the Humans than the establishment of communications with 340 potential allies, trading partners, or targets of conquest, all of which held the keys to expanding beyond their home star.
In several of our messages, we mentioned applications to join the wider galactic community, where laws could be voted on, regulations passed, and trade deals ratified. Surprisingly, the Humans accepted, but we probably shouldn’t have pushed our luck.
Normally we try to play psychological games with our upstarts and new applicants, we give them a list of things that are required to be filled out for a successful application submission, and we give them [~12 ESY] to get their act together. Even if they’ve gotten their list completely filled out, the Galactic Council would fabricate some ludicrous reason as to why they couldn’t immediately join. Be it, some minor discrepancy that wouldn’t have the slightest effect on the end result, some unmentioned, unnecessary rule, or just an incredibly vague reason as to why their application was denied, sending the applicant civilization into a period of desperation, as they have to fill out new lists, expending resources, specializing, slowly pushing further and further attempts to futility, until their delegates are literally weeping at our [feet], begging us to let them join. Only then do we allow them in.
The idea was implemented to instill a sense of respect, and exclusivity in the galactic community so that new Upstarts would behave until they learned the unspoken “lay of the land” as the Humans would say, and understand they had been duped. We never thought for a second that this wouldn’t work, because it has always worked, on every new civilization that had just escaped the confines of their gravity well. Well, until now, that is.

I've been running a code that generates a login page for a desktop app. By logging in succesfully, the user would be sent to the main UI of the app ("Mainwin.py"). However, everytime I tried to log in, it gives me an error about 'pymysql' not being found, even though I already have it installed. The error is caused by a file named "actividad.py", which is used to show what user has been using the app lately:

What's strange is that when I run the "Mainwin.py" file, it all runs smoothly. It's only when I run from the login page code that the error is happening. Here's the code of the login page for reference:
