Commentary:
Our study for today encompasses a collection of seemingly unrelated passages, but when viewed as a whole we find a great lesson in the cost of discipleship; not only for those who made up the first century church but for us today as well.
Although the verses recommended for this day begin with verse 18, by looking back at the rest of the chapter we find information which establishes the scene and gives us context for our understanding. Rather than to take a single verse at its face value, we must always look at the preceding verses as well as those that follow so as to thoroughly understand.
Assuming Matthews recollections of the events of chapter 8 are reflective of works of Christ that hapopened on the same day—and not events from throughout his ministry and lumped together here as Matthew wrote this Gospel years after the fact—we could conclude that our Lord had a busy day.
The chapter begins as Jesus is coming down off of the mountain where he preached the Sermon on the Mount, a great multitude of people following his every step, and a leper comes to worship him, he heals the man and tells him, “See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.” Then after entering Capernium a Roman Centurion comes to him asking Jesus to heal his servant. Impressed by the faith of a man who was not a Jew, but a Roman Gentile, Jesus healed the man’s slave by the authority of his word without even going to the slave’s bedside.
Matthew tells us that Jesus continued to heal many that day, beginning with Peter’s mother-in-law, then many others who were sick or possess by demons.
Our Lord had no qualms about healing the sick, but throughout the Gospels we can detect a note of concern on his part in that many were coming to him, apparently for the sole purpose of the healing of physical ailments, and not for the healing of spiritual illness. We find in more than one place, Jesus making the decision to cross over the Sea of Galilee, presumably so that he could teach away from the crowds that seemed to only want physical cures.

In a time when most were illiterate and few could even write, Scribes held an important position. Scribes had knowledge of the law and could draft legal documents (contracts for marriage, divorce, loans, inheritance, mortgages, the sale of land, and the like). Every village had at least one scribe, and we can surmise that scribes enjoyed a certain degree of wealth due to the need of their services.
Jesus lived a very simple life, traveling about teaching the people of his plan for salvation, a life that was not glamorous and one without financial compensation. Jesus didn’t tell the man “No, you can’t follow Me.” But He told him the truth, without painting a glamorized version of what it was like to follow Him. This is the opposite of techniques used by many evangelists today, but Jesus wanted the man to know what it would really be like.
“And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said unto him,Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.” (vs. 21-22)
“Actually, this man did not ask for permission to dig a grave for his deceased father. He wanted to remain in his father’s house and care for him until the father died. This was obviously an indefinite period, which could drag on and on. This man was another of His disciples; yet he did not follow Jesus as he should have, nor as the 12 disciples did. This shows us that the term disciples has a somewhat broad meaning in the Gospel of Matthew, and must be understood in its context. The man wanted to follow Jesus, but not just yet. He knew it was good and that he should do it, but he felt there was a good reason why he could not do it now.” (Guzik)
“The excuse that this disciple made, to defer an immediate attendance on Christ (v. 21); "Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Before I come to be a close and constant follower of thee, let me be allowed to perform this last office of respect to my father; and in the mean time, let it suffice to be a hearer of thee now and then, when I can spare time." His father (some think) was now sick, or dying, or dead; others think, he was only aged, and not likely in a course of nature, to continue long; and he desired leave to attend upon him in his sickness, at his death, and to his grave, and then he would be at Christ's service. This seemed a reasonable request, and yet it was not right. He had not the zeal he should have had for the work, and therefore pleaded this, because it seemed a plausible plea.” (Henry)

The scribe would have been accustomed to receiving remuneration for his services, a disciple of Christ in those days as well as today must be prepared for hardship. Scribes such as this man enjoyed a certain degree of celebrity, an important man in the community who provided a service that was often needed. Disciples seldom gain celebrity, and the ones that do, frequently experience a downfall. Jesus said; “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Mt. 6:24) Jesus knew that this man would find it difficult to leave that which he was used to and to take up the cross and follow him.
The second lesson involves a disciple—a follower but not of the 12—who would have Jesus wait on him, until the man’s father had died and his affairs settled. Jesus knew his time on Earth was short, his appointment with destiny was just months away, but this man expected Jesus to wait for him.
We have to remember that at this point in his ministry, even the 12 seemed to think that when he established the Kingdom of God, they would enjoy high ranking positions in his administration. So many failed to realize that Jesus was speaking of a spiritual kingdom, a heavenly kingdom, and not a worldly political subdivision. Although Matthew does not make this point clear, we might surmise that this man wanted to be part of what he erroneously perceived to be a glorious worldly kingdom that rivaled that of King David’s era. Whatever the case may be in this man’s situation, when we consider the rebuke Jesus gave him “Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.” We can learn of another great cost in discipleship, the need to serve Jesus versus the need to serve our own agenda.
Finally we come to the third lesson. “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” We, as disciples of Christ, must always have faith, even in the face of danger.
Matthew Henry wrote: “His disciples followed him; the twelve kept close to him, when others staid behind upon the terra firma, where there was sure footing. Note, They, and they only, will be found the true disciples of Christ, that are willing to go to sea with him, to follow him into dangers and difficulties. Many would be content to go the land-way to heaven, that will rather stand still, or go back, than venture upon a dangerous sea; but those that would rest with Christ hereafter must follow him now wherever he leads them, into a ship or into a prison, as well as into a palace.”

I’m in need of some advice. I feel like a failure.
This year, I found out in march that my contract will not be renewed due to my “performance”, I shortly after “resigned” (was given the option to resign or be let go). This will be my 3rd year teaching at the same school, ironically the year I’m supposed to get tenured. I’ve been rated excellent the past two years, one being the principal who didn’t renew my contract for next year.
Our principal is on her second year and has been nothing shy of horrendous. I’ve heard her call parents bitches, makes sexist comments about men at our school, yell at staff, the list goes on. I’ve never spoken about her or reported her actions due to fear that she will retaliate. During my exit meeting I did report the situation, how I was let go with absolutely no warning or explanation. That’s beside the point.
I am now reapplying and I’m losing hope. I’ve had three interviews and been turned down by all three. I have a few questions about my application.

- on my application there’s a question that asks “Have you ever failed to be rehired, been asked to resign a position, or resigned to avoid termination?”. All my colleagues have told me to mark it as “no”. (A few colleagues are in similar situation) but I feel like this is maybe effecting my chances of being hired? I’m just at a loss. I don’t know what to put.
- The second question I have is in regards to my experience. It has me fill out “supervisor information” which would be this current principal. I have no faith that she will speak kindly on my behalf, so our district HR rep said he’d be happy to be my supervisor referral. Who would look better on the application?

But we should be looking at the reasons of why Mini has made these style/business choices. I feel that some of these reasons are largely being ignored by some fans, being accepted as "the new trend, accept it", versus the 'straight-to-market', market cap gaining, cutting costs to get there, loss of prestige, quality of materials, and loyalty be damned - as I and others see it.
I obviously sit on the side of mostly disliking this new generation not because of their style choices (while ugly) but their decision to sacrifice quality in order to gain market cap, and their decision to partner with Great Wall Motors and produce an awful end-product out of China that mostly mimics the likes of the South East Asian market.
The Asian market isn't so much the problem, it's the en mass production of said materials, "recycled", "faux", and low quality plastics that are being used in their vehicles. A lot of people have said "this is the trend" and where all mass marketed cars are heading. But I think Mini's decision to partner with Great Wall Motors and produce the car out of China has a huge impact on their intention to go straight-to-market, cost cutting, streamlined parts, and therefore (in my opinion) loss of quality, and diminished/minimalist styling and impact on general design.
For example, I've said this in other places, but Great Wall Motor's 2023 Ora EV is a near clone of the Mini Cooper EV of which is made out of the same factory as the Ora. This partnership started in late 2017, early 2018 and didn't just happen yesterday. If you see the URL's below of the Ora you can see that they're pretty much clones, the round headlines, "unique" colorful interior, faux leather, low quality plastics, and minimalist approach.
Sorry for the length of this, but I'd love a friendly discussion about the above because it seems to be that BMW/Mini along with GWM are really just trying to gain as many customers as they can while doing it from a straight-to-market, cost-cutting designs, while largely impacting the former prestige and "luxury" feel our beloved Minis once had. What do you think?

Before submitting a comment about an issue, the #1 thing any user should do when they first experience issues with a new update is to follow these troubleshooting steps.
If issues still persist despite the efforts made in this thread, report the issue to cricut.
Calibrate your machine right after an update as your calibration settings will not carry over into the latest update. Follow the advice of the calibration guide. Then do a test print then cut of your project using plain printer paper.
If for some reason after calibration your cuts are still inaccurate, clear cache (the troubleshooting guide above this) and try calibration again.
If you are experiencing issues despite clearing cache, please give some background information:
- Cricut machine (Joy, Joy Xtra, Explore Air 2, Explore air 3, Maker, Maker 3, etc.).
- Device (Windows 10, Window 11, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android).

Fixed field issues: This release
Last 6 weeks:
- The ability to customize the Card project enables users to select specific sizes and personalize them according to their preferences.
- After disabling specific contours, the bounding box encloses the remaining ones within the Canvas.
- Images not uploading.
- Upon selecting, it appears that some of the ‘Make It Now’ projects in the Canvas have disappeared.
- Right-clicking and selecting “View image sets” from the Layers panel often displays irrelevant images.
Over the last 6 weeks we've fixed 74 software defects, including the following priority field issues and reliability concerns:
- Draw projects are being opened as cuts instead of drawings, resulting in a color change.
- The ability to customize the Card project enables users to select specific sizes and personalize them according to their preferences.
- After disabling specific contours, the bounding box encloses the remaining ones within the Canvas.
- Images not uploading.
- Upon selecting, it appears that some of the ‘Make It Now’ projects in the Canvas have disappeared.
- Right-clicking and selecting “View image sets” from the Layers panel often displays irrelevant images.
- Selecting certain fonts in the font selection process is causing delays in rendering on the Canvas
- The text box fails to load on the Canvas, and adding a text field in Chinese is not possible
- Changes made to the latest project are lost upon sharing.
- Save a project on iOS, then open it on desktop, and notice that the changes fail to appear.
-After completing the cut with Print Then Cut and Basic Cut operations attached, the mat remains unloaded.
- The Canvas tab disappears and it takes longer for the Canvas tab to load.
- The saved project only shows letters on the Canvas, but double-tapping the text box reveals the entire sentences.
- After finishing cutting the mat that's off-screen, the scrollbar scrolled back to the top instead of moving to the next mat.
- My Stuff doesn't show any projects, and the collection is displayed without a name.
- Follow button is not working on profile page
- Profile links that are copied and pasted shows Blank home page.
- Forever stuck on the project details page, with both the customize and make buttons greyed out.
- Print Then Cut images appear distorted or the print preview is not accurate
- Print Then Cut images did not appear correctly on the cut screen.
- The Print Then Cut quality warning message is preventing the user from proceeding to make it.
- Clicking "View All" on recent uploads either redirects to the Inspire/Discover page or results in the inability to access the full set of uploaded images.
- The Canvas performance drastically slows down when inserting high-quality uploaded images.
- The functionality of the automatic background remover has stopped working.
- Uploaded high-resolution images, those above 300 DPI, are displaying low-resolution warnings.
- When uploading an image with a resolution exceeding 300 DPI, it undergoes downsizing, accompanied by a low-resolution warning message for each uploaded image.
- The image icon that regulates the number of images per line remains unresponsive.
- The image loses focus when resized, and after hiding contour and resizing, it becomes impossible to move the image upward in the Canvas.
- There are performance issues with Warp, as it takes more than a second to enter edit mode and experiences lag when additional characters are entered. Additionally, after completing editing and clicking outside the box, there is a delay.
- There's no prompt to confirm unsaved changes, and the previous unsaved Canvas disappears without any notification to replace or save it.
- Using the keyboard shortcut cmd + shift + left arrow key to highlight everything results in improper rendering of the highlight.
- When opening Image Sets, the images load closely together, and the Image Set name tile appears misplaced, positioned between the top and second row instead of the first row.
- When performing combine, subtract, intersect, or exclude operations and attaching them, the color or operations remains unchangeable.
- Upon launching the app, users encounter a white screen, a continuous spinner, and a missing refresh token.
- Even after power cycling and setting the load to go, the -18 machine connection error continues to persist
- When hovering over the mat control multiple times, the mat preview fails to appear.
- When toggling the mirror function, the mat selection jumps, causing the left side to scroll back to the top.
- Cannot remove images from a collection
- Completing the product setup for a second time with a different machine leads to going to the "Get Started" page without setting the correct machine type.
- The "Get Started" page on the left rail and the pointer finger suggest that there's a reason to click there.
- It's not possible to unlike projects, and an error message stating "unable to remove likes" is displayed.
- The bookmark icon fails to switch to "bookmarked" for image sets
- The private profile message fails to display, and opening a project link leads to an empty Canvas without the project
- The shared profile links are incomplete, leading to the home page instead of directing to the profile
- Card Mat - If users attempt to make or customize without selecting a finished size, they will be prompted with the error message, "Select a Finished Size to continue
- When adding a photo to the Project details, it's observed that the image is zoomed in excessively, making it impossible to zoom out sufficiently to display the entire photo.
- It is not possible to cancel a full-page Print Then Cut project from the Mat Prepare screen.
-Performing a second search after the initial one yields no results
-Attempting to open a project with numerous sticker groups results in the Canvas displaying a perpetual spinner, rendering the project inaccessible.
-Loading stickers with multi-layered complex projects from project details takes considerable time to customize or make, typically ranging from 5 to 7 minutes.
- The custom border feature fails to function properly with complex shapes and does not create sticker-cut interior shapes combinations as intended.
- The Offset function fails to work with intricate PNGs for creating sticker-cut interior shapes combinations, and the Apply button remains disabled, accompanied by a continuous green bar.
- When deleting a Warp within a sticker group, the border is not redrawn.
- When resizing the sticker image using the Kiss cut & Die-cut Edge option, the image vanishes from the Canvas.
- After ungrouping and regrouping the text, the font toolbar is unavailable for the group.
- Apostrophes and quotes fail to transform into their left-right variants, causing coded single and double quote marks to appear instead of the anticipated left and right variants.
- Text is positioned closer to the bottom right corner, resulting in incorrect text placement after opening a new Canvas and adding new text
- When using the delete button on the laptop to erase text, it becomes evident that the undo and redo functions are not operating correctly.
- After changing a color or moving an image, the undo feature fails to function.
- Users have the ability to delete uploaded images when using new Image Inspiration designs.
- When attempting to upload an image, a message indicating "unable to upload image" is displayed, prompting users to check their internet connection.
- The learning plan redirects to the Canvas instead of remaining on the home page.
- When the uploaded image is added to the Canvas, it displays an image load failure.

And I see that people are using boiled linseed oil...but yet to find out if that actually lasts

- This is for a corner lot; the west and south views are undesirable street views. The house is intentionally oriented inwards.
- Yes, the roof slopes towards the pool. Smaller gutter length is required and it diverts to a rain barrel for the garden.
- The office doubles as a studio space, direct or close access to the utility sink is a necessity.
- Furniture shown is a placeholder to give a sense of scale. I'm not looking for interior design suggestions.

All of enemies in the game are unserious and goofy now. Unlike how borderlands 1 you actually took enemies and bosses serious and they came off as deadly and badass. Now it’s like you’re against mentally challenged babies. Remember how scared and anxious you were to fight sledge in bl1? Yeah now you’re fighting against a midget baby boss that goes down in 10 shots.
Are you telling me every planet has psychos and just about the same enemies? Why couldn’t they have designed more enemies for each planet to make it feel unique. It makes the game’s world feel unauthentic. Like psychos should only be on pandora because how would they even get to space? Like what.
The new psycho design is a joke. I liked bl1’s design better when they were crazy coal miners who lost their jobs and went crazy. Now they’re just troy and tyreen’s puppets who try and imitate bl1’s psychos. Wtf happened to bruisers now? They felt intimidating in bl1 and 2 and now they’re just goofies with shotguns.
Why when we travel to new planets for the first time do we automatically appear with our shuttle crashed? No cutscene or anything of us landing? It’s just flat out lazy. Even the shuttles are in areas where it would be impossible to actually land. The planet previews are laughable and it’s lazy game design.
The vault bosses were mediocre and uninteresting compared to bl1 and 2. It’s like you’re fighting a dlc boss instead of an actual vault monster. I killed each vault monster in 3 minutes. A waste of what could’ve been something interesting. In the pre sequel’s ending you felt hyped for bl3 to come out because there were going to be all these cool vaults you could find. I didn’t feel an ounce of that when i played bl3. Every single vault has the same exact layout. It’s like the dev team were too lazy to even design something interesting. None of the vaults have good loot either. It’s laughable.
Don’t even get me started on how they made typhon deleon. He’s goofy, short, and fat and you can’t take him serious at all. This was a good moment to make a memorable character that was mentioned and hyped up in all 3 games but they ruined it all. Randy pitchford would rather have a midget fat guy that sounds like danny devito as the first vault hunter. Lmao.. This guy’s fetish went too far. ☠️
The calypso twins being typhon deleon’s kids makes no sense. They would be rich and already have all they wanted but instead they wrote them as bratty ungrateful kids who want world domination. Like what? You can’t takes these villains serious at all.
What in the hell were they thinking for the eridian homeworld planet? Remember how cool and awesome it was going to the vault in the end of bl1 and seeing the eridians. Now there’s none of that and it’s like you’re fighting kung fu fighters instead. The entire level’s design is so boring, bland, and uninteresting. Literally all they did was put two floating cubes in the middle of the map then copy and pasted the same structures all throughout the maps. Lmao.. such a waste of what could have been a cool planet to visit.
The dialogue in this game was horrible. It’s like nonstop jokes where you can’t even take anything serious. Every character is goofy and poorly portrayed. They were trying too hard to make the game funny.
When a main character dies they get a 30 second memorial talk and the game moves on. Also they made tannis a siren. LOL
Every single side mission felt like you were playing a torture simulator that got increasingly more annoying every time.
The only time i felt like the game was alright was the 1-2 missions we get to play that have mordecai, brick, and tiny tina. I liked that they made brick and mordecai look kinda like they did in bl1.
The part where you go to the jacobs estate and get to the jacobs ceo’s room it’s like why are there books everywhere? Isn’t this the guy the one who made jacob’s corporation and designed awesome guns? The one mentioned all of bl1 and 2? That guy? Why is his room filled with books and beer kegs? Shouldn’t there be guns hanging on the walls or something.. That’s awful game and character design.
Why didn’t they let us revisit fyrestone or some of the old locations from bl1 and 2? That would’ve been awesome but they would rather design new variations of midgets lmao.
Oh and the worst of all is the voice and gun sounds menu. Why didn’t they add a custom gun sound option that you could turn down? My ears were bleeding half the time from how loud the guns are (especially that acid legendary gun) and i spent half of my gameplay turning the volume up and down constantly trying to find a good level to where my ears wouldn’t explode and i could still hear the game. I literally had a ear ache. The technical vehicle’s engine sound was so loud i never used it half the time, and i only used the bike wheel vehicle for how badly loud it was. Also Ellie’s voice is so loud and obnoxious.
I bought the Ultimate Edition too with every single add on and dlc and you couldn’t get me to even try to ever play this game again. Lmao.
I played that mission of claptrap’s videogame and i said nope, i’m fucking done. That was the most annoying shit i had to sit through in a video game.
I already know the dlc would suck ass just like the main game. I can pass on the brain rot. No thanks. The last borderlands game i’ll probably play is tales from the borderlands 1. That’s even if i ever try it.

 | TL;DR: Need floor plan that eliminates tub to make the shower larger and basically update the entire bathroom as this is all original from when the house was built in 1997. submitted by TooSoonForThat to floorplan [link] [comments] With our master bathroom remodel we will be replacing the vanity and removing the soaking tub (the 2nd bathroom has a tub). I want to keep a toilet room/water closet. We would like to make the shower larger either by removing the wall between tub and shower to make it longer and maybe a little wider, adding niches and possibly a bench or ledge. We would replace the existing sliding glass shower doors with a solid wall to make a toilet only room. The second idea is to put the shower where the soaking tub is which will make it slightly larger than it is now. Then moving the toilet to where the shower is now and putting a linen cabinet in the toilet room as it would be pretty big at that point which we really don’t need. Both ideas would require reducing the height of the existing 55” x 55” window over the tub to about 55” x 24” so it would up high to let some natural light in or we can eliminate the window altogether. Can’t move the window because of the outside architecture. The overall space is approximately 15’ x 16’ (minus the squared off space of the outside walls next to vanity and tub). I’m open to moving fixtures around but cannot come up with a good floor plan to do that in this same footprint. The door from the living room opens into the master bathroom giving a straight line of sight to the existing vanity so moving the shower or toilet room there wouldn’t look great I think? We have a contractor neighbor next to us and a great trim carpenter across the street who both work on million dollar homes and they’ve both looked at it and don’t really have any ideas either. I had an interior designer come in and take measurements, ask me what I wanted to do with the space, said she would help with tile/fixture selection, offered to work with the remodelers and told me she would get back to me with a rough plan and quote but I never heard from her again. I emailed and texted her but no response. She works on many of the million dollar home projects my neighbors work on but said she was excited to work on a smaller project that she could see from start to finish. I guess she’s never worked on a remodel before and she was stumped on a new layout too? I had a construction/remodeling company give me an estimate for doing the remodel, including moving plumbing but they don’t do design work. This particular company has a great reputation for their work so I want to hire them whenever I get a floor plan done. To enlarge the foot print we would either have to make the closets smaller (don’t really want to do that) or change the roof line by squaring up the outside walls next to the vanity and tub which isn’t really an option (as much as I would like to) as it would add too much to the cost. In one room I’d like to do a dark green (BM Boreal Forest) with mascarpone trim. She suggested darker trim - which also rubs me the wrong way. What’s going on? Why is everyone painting everything the same color? I feel like the monochrome all over thing is a trend, and not a good trend? Am I the troglodyte?
