2024.05.15 11:39 not5 Monetized in 2.5 months, a review

Hey all!
I've been lurking here since I uploaded my first video on YT, and I've found some of your threads here useful. So I thought I'd give back with a write up on my monetization journey, which, although not lightning fast, has been medium-fast (two months and two weeks from my first upload).
Who am I?
I'm a fashion photographer, with 10+ years of experience in my main field, and 3+ years of experience in the generative AI field. I started working with generative AI for a project with Vogue Italia right before the main publicly available applications were released to the wider public (Dall-E, MidJourney, Stable Diffusion), and since then my work has been a mix of traditional photography and generative AI. And that's why I became a part-time Tuber.
Finding a niche
While I was implementing gen AI more and more in my fashion photography works, I was struggling to find professionally oriented tutorials on YT. There's a ton of content about gen AI, covering news, tools, and starting out with it, but there was close to no in-depth, real-world use cases focused tutorials. So I though - hey, I'm using it in my own works. I know a ton of fellow professionals who can use it too. I can't be the only one looking for this kind of content. Maybe I should create that content myself.
Now, I don't know what you're interested in, but in order to find a niche, I'd do the same: find something you like and know about, and check if there's some aspects of it which no one covers, and you know you can cover yourself.
From the comments and commission requests I've gotten in two months, I was right. Which leads us to...
Offering value
My content is long and incredibly tedious. Honestly, it's quite boring to the layman. But it's necessary for anyone who wants to learn something applicable in their own field *or* anyone who wants to start using AI tools in their own traditional workflows, so I realized those are my audience.
To those people, I'm offering value, even if the videos are long and boring. But it's the fact that they're long and boring that's giving me an edge. Let me explain how.
Basically, from the first video, I had to choose if:
I decided to go with the latter. My videos are complete tutorials, A to Z, made for people who know basically nothing about generative AI, guiding them from knowing nothing to doing exactly what I'm doing, explaining how I set up things and, most importantly, why I do it the way I do it.
Now, I needed a way to not lose the attention of people who already knew how to go from A to G, but not from G to Z, so in the first minute or so I always say something along the lines of "ok, so now I'm going to build all of my workflow from scratch, so if you're not interested in how and why it works this way, you can find the timestamps here and jump ahead to the demonstration segment".
This works, and it's why my watch curve looks like a "U". A good 25-30% of people are interested in the "how it's done", while 35-40% are interested in "what it looks like".
The only negative comment I've ever received on my format, which was something like "dude, you're too slow", was followed by a comment, a month later, by the same user, saying "I get now why you're slow, not everyone's at the same level. Please disregard my previous comment".
Strategy
Overall, I upload weekly, same day, same time, unless:
I don't post shorts anymore, since:
The long term goal is to find new clients for my day job, and to do consulting work on the side, given that my audience perceive me as an expert in my field.
Metrics
Now, I think that the metrics I've seen both here and in the Partnered sub are completely skewed towards niches that are not appliable to me or fellow tutorial YouTubers, or for this sub in particular, are skewed towards creators who don't have large view counts.
20-30% CTR? 50% AVD? These kind of numbers, to me, would mean that I struck gold and I created something that was flying off the shelves like cakes during the French revolution (even if that never happened). Or, most likely, that no one is watching my content expect for my most hardened userbase, *and* YT didn't push the video at all to outside audiences.
My usual metrics, which are a direct result of both my very niche content and the nature of my content (tutorials), are around 8-10% CTR and 12-18% AVD. And the videos with these metrics get pushed, hard, to outside audiences.
I think YT's algorithm kind of understands that my content is not meant to be watched from start to finish, and that my audience is very selective of what it's useful to them. So either it doesn't care about the usual metrics I see thrown around here, or those metrics are inflated.
I also think (but again, sample size=1, me) that YT kind puts each and every one of us into a "box" of sorts, in terms of how much it wants to push our content. At first, my videos had a max impressions of around 10k. Nowadays, it's more in the realm of 50-200k, and it's reflected in the amount of impressions my newest videos get when they're published. The curves all look the same until one video breaks out, and a new standard is expected out of my next videos.
Also, each video is their own thing. If a video's CTR tanks in the first few hours, I can expect it to not reach the same audience that my most successful videos reach in the same amount of time, and that's because...
YouTube wants people to see (your) videos
Well, maybe not *your* videos, and maybe not *all* your videos, but the way YT works is opposite of the way IG works, for example. While IG has no monetary incentives to pushing free content, and has to push paid content in between free content, YouTube makes money out of people seeing free content, because the paid content (ADs) is embedded into the free content (videos).
So if your video is good, YT has no issues pushing it. If your video is not good, too bad, there's another content creator in your niche who has a better video, so let's push their video instead.
By providing value to your viewers, you're providing value to YouTube and their ADs, so either you and YT win, or another content creator and YT win. In the eyes of YT, everybody wins all the time.
Increasing CTR
If you're like me, you know, in your heart of hearts, that a catchy title and a great thumbnail are as important as the content of your video. If you're like me, the thumbnail's the last thing you prepare, and we're both wrong.
Seriously, get good at creating good thumbnails. Since I've started focusing more on thumbnails, my CTR has gotten, if not better in the long run (since all videos default to kind of the same CTR the longer the video has been out for and the wider the audience is), better in the first few hours and days, which increases the audience drastically.
I know this is a boring part of the creative process, but get good at it.
Also, experiment with multiple thumbnails during the first hours when a video has been published. A thumbnail you expected to do well might not be as catchy as you thought. Try 3 or 4 different thumbnails and see what sticks.
Increasing AVD
Now in my case I can't do much about it, since the format I've chosen is kind of non-negotiable and it's what brings value at the expense of AVD, but if you're:
Streaming
I discovered streaming way too late, and I wish I did it way earlier. It would have had me monetized at least a couple of weeks sooner.
But in order to do it well, you need:
The latter is the hardest part, and I only know how to do it because I'm used to giving speeches and lessons. But, like all skills, it's not something you're born with, it's something you train and get good at, so if you're into it try it and get better at it over time.
Equipment
I'm lucky enough to have a day job that covers most of the equipment needed. My camera and lenses are the same I'm using for my day job, I already had a mic, my PC is an absolute beast because of the generative AI work I do, so I think I spent like 20 bucks for a mic arm and that's it.
In anyone else's case, though, the most important things to invest in is:
Final considerations
Some of you may have more trouble with subs, some with watch hours (in my case, I got 2.5k subs before I reached my watch hours goal), some of you may find trouble expressing yourselves in front of the camera, or talking well, or may prefer scripts rather than talking freely while doing things, but all in all:
Let me know if you'd like to know more, or if I missed something.
Thanks for reading!

2024.05.15 11:36 xBrutalBear Seeking advice warehouse solutions/WMS-system

Hello,
I'm currently interning at a medium-sized company that manufactures beds, and my job is to look into Warehouse Management System (WMS). Now, I'm not exactly a tech expert, but I'm trying to figure out how it could help us out.
So, here's the deal with our warehouse: it's kind of a mess. Stuff goes missing all the time, and it's a pain to find anything. We're still doing things the old-fashioned way, with no real system in place. It's like a game of hide and seek, but nobody's having any fun. They have 2 warehouse employees and a capacity of about 1900 pallets in their storage racks. Their solution: WMS-system.
What I would like for them is barcode labeling and scanner implementation to get more control over goods, and structuring the warehouse in SKU's. I would like software that could help with managing these SKU's and with barcoding.
I think a WMS would benefit the company. In order to future-proof this warehouse they need information about the warehousing of their goods, procurement is not very optimized either, a lot of old goods remain in the warehouse and there's no overview. Things I would like for the warehouse to optimise are:
Now problems with a WMS are:
I would like a WMS solution but I am not sure if it's the best solution and I have trouble finding solutions that would help with supporting the improvements I think would really benefit the company. I am worried about advising a WMS solution because of the problems that could arise with ERP and their current processes, possibly increasing costs by A LOT. The company is not that big, less than 100 employees. I am worried that their current processes are not really compatible with WMS systems, the budget is not enormous, one vendor offered for 40k+ >2k yearly costs but I find this pricy.
I would really appreciate if someone can help, it feels like a mess and I find trouble navigating through it.

2024.05.15 11:29 alphariusomega123 clarifying things about the story of Final Crisis: Superman Beyond that many people didn't understand (long post).

clarifying things about the story of Final Crisis: Superman Beyond that many people didn't understand (long post).
Although it will soon be 16 years since its publication, the story of Final Crisis: Superman Beyond continues to be a source of misinformation and controversy. Whether due to Grant Morrison's particular way of telling stories, whether due to his strongly metaphorical writing or simply poor reading comprehension (something that seems to abound among comic book readers), there are many elements that are still a matter of debate about the same.
For these reasons, I decided to make this article, where I will try to resolve the most frequently asked questions about this story, and above all, clarify the power of the Thought Robot.
Without further ado, let's start by explaining the context and then what interests everyone.
1) WHAT HAPPENS IN FINAL CRISIS: SUPERMAN BEYOND?:
Superman Beyond is, above all, a story about the concept of stories and the role of superheroes in them in the DC universe. For those who haven't read it, I'm going to do a super quick summary: during the Final Crisis, Lois falls seriously ill and is admitted to the Metropolis hospital. Then Superman is visited by Zillo Valla, one of the monitors, who offers him the chance to save her wife in exchange for helping her save the multiverse.
Zillo has also recruited other Supermans from different universes with similar promises, including Overman, Captain Adam, Shazam from Earth-4, and Ultraman from the antimatter universe. Zillo's ship is attacked and ends up crashing into Limbo. There, Superman and Shazam find an infinite book that reveals the origin story of the monitors and about the enemy they face, known as Mandrakk, the dark monitor.
When Mandrakk's forces attack Limbo, Captain Adam manages to contact the Monitor-Mind, and uses that knowledge to merge the consciousnesses of Superman and Ultraman, which ascend to a higher dimension (the sphere of the monitors) and activate the Thought Robot, a weapon created to combat Mandrakk. There, Superman is greeted by Monitor Weeja Dell, and the Monitors' true nature is revealed as parasites that feed on the Bleed.
Mandrakk was banished for forcing them to confront this fact. Finally, Mandrakk appears and kills Zillo Valla, but Superman manages to defeat him by expelling him into the Overvoid. Superman carves words into a tomb and takes a vial of refined Bleed with him before returning to Limbo, where he and the other Supermans destroy Mandrakk's army. Lois is saved from her when Superman transfers the Bleed extract to her with a kiss.
Ultimately, Ultraman is turned into a vampire by Rox Ogama, Mandrakk's disciple, who swears revenge, and it is revealed that the words Superman carved into the tomb were "To be continued...", in reference to the cyclical nature of Ultraman's history. superhero comics.
2) ABOUT THE NAME "COSMIC ARMOR":
Before continuing with the explanations, it is important that we clarify that, contrary to popular belief, the robot used to fight Mandrakk is not called "Cosmic Armor". "Cosmic Armor" is an adjective that Mandrakk uses to refer as a mockery to this robot in two moments of the fight (which are actually the same, only one is a flashforward), but this is not a real title, nor much less is it called that.
https://imgur.com/a/R8TYnL1
https://imgur.com/a/tf4qLk2
And the truth is that the name of the machine is... well it has no official name. At no point in the comic is he assigned a specific name. The closest is when, on two occasions, two characters refer to it as a "Thought Robot" or a "Thought Robot": once by Captain Adam and once by Weeja Dell.
https://imgur.com/a/uDED6zM
https://imgur.com/a/amC6YiN
And that's basically what it is: a living weapon with a body of pure thought, created to combat the ultimate enemy. So the most correct name to refer to the entity is Thought Robot, and not "Cosmic Armor", since it is not even armor.
https://imgur.com/a/WcVSjOk
https://imgur.com/a/amC6YiN
3) THE BOOK OF INFINITE PAGES:
One of the most controversial moments in the comic occurs when Superman and Shazam hold a book with infinite pages, and said book is later lifted by Ultraman, who claims to have read the last page. This makes many wonder if it is a legitimate feat, since it implies that Superman and Shazam have infinite strength and that Ultraman is stronger than both of them combined. The reality of the feat is much more complex.
https://imgur.com/a/0qqiXIX
The context behind the book is that this is a literal plot device that, symbolizing the infinite monkey theorem (Merryman makes the reference), retroactively contains every possible book in the DC universe. The infinite pages of the book occupy the same physical space (so the mass is ambiguous), due to which Superman and Shazam could not read it and tried to take it to Zillo Valla's ship.
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teorema_del_mono_infinito
https://imgur.com/a/uGHROmM
They fail, and instead, the book reveals the existence of the Monitor-Mind and the history of the Monitors, causing Shazam to have a premonition with the key to defeating Mandrakk. Which means that, of the infinite stories in the book, Superman and Shazam only access one, the original story about the same story concept. Now, many say that the book cannot be infinite because Ultraman moves it and claims that it has an end. This is wrong.
https://imgur.com/a/FHzOHZj
https://imgur.com/a/I2XSYrg
Ultraman can see the end of the book and move it because the book is, as we have already said, a literal representation of all the DC stories, and Mandrakk was destroying those same stories and moving towards the multiverse. That's why Ultraman says that "evil wins in the end." The meaning behind this symbolism is that superhero stories are infinitely cyclical and these can only end if evil defeats good, which would make the book stop being infinite as there are no more stories.
https://imgur.com/a/DSUMTg3
In short, the feat is legitimate, but only because the book was no longer infinite as Mandrakk destroyed the stories he tells. We'll talk about Mandrakk's plot manipulation below. Breathe easy Superman nerfers, you no longer need to continue inventing far-fetched excuses to nerf the character you hate.
4) HOW BIG IS THE THOUGHT ROBOT?:
This issue has been highly debated over the years due to the lack of reading comprehension of many readers, ranging from people who claim that it is only 6 meters tall because it is a little bigger than the monitors to those who say it is bigger than the entire omniverse (?). To understand the reality about the size of the Thought Robot, it is essential to first know its history.
The Monitor-Mind sent a probe to examine a"glitch" (which was, in fact, the stories concept) within itself, and said probe would eventually split into two halves, one of which would become a Thought Robot, at the same time the fault was sealed behind it with divine metals, giving rise to the orrery of worlds. The sphere and civilization of the monitors was formed around said structure.
https://imgur.com/a/kdMn6Mq
In this place we can see how this Thought Robot has a size similar to that of the planetarium (and in passing "billions of worlds" are mentioned, denying that there are only 52 universes), which is consistent with that shown in the flashbacks. The famous scene that many believe is the Though Robot "lifting" a galaxy with a fingernail (it's not actually lifting anything) is, in fact, Limbo, which looks this small when viewed from this sphere.
https://imgur.com/a/VEBRwAG
https://gyazo.com/303e8d116a036fac1985c79dcae06843
Zillo Valla herself explains that mere nanomachines of the monitors are already gigantic war machines from the perspective of the realms below their sphere, including the sphere of the gods. So yes, the robot is bigger than universes and multiverses... simply because in the sphere of the monitors, everything that is on a human scale is already bigger than universes and multiverses.
5) HOW POWERFUL IS THE THOUGHT ROBOT?:
With the above, one could make the mistake of thinking that Mandrakk and the Thought Robot are only powerful because of their size relative to the planes lower than these, but nothing could be further from the truth. A casual attack from Mandrakk was enough to instantly kill Zillo Valla in the monitor sphere, and the Thought Robot withstood many attacks like that.

He also shook the entire sphere of monitors with his mere activation, which surrounds and is larger than the sphere of the gods, the planetarium of worlds and all the multiverses of these plus his bleedspace combined. He also devastated Nil in her clash against Mandrakk, city of the monitors, and cornerstone of the multiverse or even "a multiverse of multiverses", which also occupies an appreciable part of the sphere. (If you know a little about DC cosmology, I think there is no need on my part to explain his power level with the above.)

Unfortunately there is not much about his speed, although it is implied that he perceives the entirety of space-time in a non-linear manner, as well as being able to dodge Mandrakk's attacks, to which the monitors cannot react, and these scale above of the elves of the fifth dimension. So this is clearly incommensurable.

In short, an extremely powerful character.
6) WHAT ARE THE SKILLS OF THE THOUGHT ROBOT?:
One of the great ironies of the Superman Beyond story is that Mandrakk is unaware that he is Dax Novu and Thought Robot one of his original halves until the end of himself. For this reason, they both possess similar powers and abilities. On the part of the Thought Robot, it showed a very powerful reactive evolution that allows it to instantly adapt to any threat, so that the stronger Mandrakk became, the stronger he also became.

https://imgur.com/a/amC6YiN
https://imgur.com/a/pAcRKQT
He also demonstrated the ability to break the fourth wall, extending his hand to directly touch the reader (the original comic included 3D glasses to do the effect), denoting a certain superiority with respect to conventional DC narrative. He also possesses transdualism, being activated by the contradictory essences of Superman and Ultraman (Captain Adam himself states that there are no dualities, only symmetries).

https://imgur.com/a/uURRUj2
https://imgur.com/a/tSuw958
https://imgur.com/a/Y4TWipN
By the words of Captain Adam himself, Superman now shares (or even surpasses) his understanding of reality, which implies a high level of cosmic senses that translate into what was already mentioned above. Grant Morrison also considers that both this being and Mandrakk possess conceptual manipulation, respectively embodying various contradictory concepts such as good and evil, black and white, is and is not, etc.
https://imgur.com/a/Y4TWipN
https://www.ign.com/articles/2009/02/03/inside-the-mind-of-grant-morrison?page=3
It is also well served with resistance: it is a body of pure thought, so the manipulation of matter, soul or reality would be ineffective against it. Also the manipulation of the mind, since after Limbo, memory ceases to have meaning. Additionally, he resisted being destroyed by a self-assembled hyper-story created by Mandrakk, so he is also resistant to plot manipulation.

https://imgur.com/a/XpjAsRJ
https://imgur.com/a/ZIh5oXn
Lastly, both he and Mandrakk are resistant to existential erasure and void manipulation, as they were both originally part of the Monitor-Mind. In fact, Mandrakk survived a free fall into the Overvoid which is mentioned to have erased even his very idea, as seen in The Unexpected #2 and explained in The Unexpected #5.

7) DAX NOVU AND ROX OGAMA:
A very common confusion that I regularly see is seeing people confuse Dax Novu with Rox Ogama. I don't blame them, since they both call themselves "Mandrakk" and are physically very similar. The problem with this confusion is that it leads many people to draw wrong conclusions about the character's power level and spread misinformation under the well-worn pretext of consistency. However, they are not the same character.
The first thing to know is that "Mandrakk" is the title by which the dark monitor is known, but it is not the real name of either of the two. The Mandrakk we talk about in this article is Dax Novu, who was the first monitor to assume the title; The Mandrakk who appears at the end of Superman Beyond and Final Crisis is Rox Ogama, who assumes the title after Dax Novu's apparent death following his battle with the Thought Robot.
https://imgur.com/a/gAUGtlw
https://imgur.com/a/KR1lTWi
Of course, they are not even remotely comparable in power: Rox Ogama became more powerful than a regular monitor thanks to constantly vampirizing the bleed, but ended up pulverized by a joint attack by the Green Lantern Corps; Dax Novu not only survived his battle with the Thought Robot, but also with the Unexpected, which is why he is still alive today.
https://imgur.com/a/V94hAdH
https://imgur.com/a/qriylYT
https://imgur.com/a/RwCvEgz
8) IS THIS THE MOST POWERFUL VERSION OF SUPERMAN?:
Technically this is not a "version" of Superman, as the events of Superman Beyond occur within the main Post Crisis continuity. Strictly speaking, it's not about Superman either, since the Thought Robot is something external to him that is managed jointly by his and Ultraman's consciousness. Rather than a version, it would be more appropriate to classify this being as a "mecha".
All those technicalities aside, yes, this is by far the most powerful Superman. By Captain Adam's indirect admission, he cannot even compare to this being, and Captain Adam is already one of the most powerful Supermans in the multiverse. Strange Visitor at most scales above Mister Mxyzptlk, and Prime-Superman (often incorrectly called "One Million") showed nothing remotely similar.
https://imgur.com/a/tSuw958
9) IS THIS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL BEINGS IN DC?:
The answer is an obvious no. While this entity is extremely powerful even by comic book standards, it is still a long way from being able to measure up to the top tiers of the verse. Both Perpetua and her children greatly surpass him in power and size, and we know that in turn beings that rise from her have no rival within the multiverse and can destroy its entirety, including the sphere of the monitors.
https://imgur.com/a/KhxJz4o
https://imgur.com/a/LU0PjPH
https://imgur.com/a/0yZXbaA
Similarly, Mandrakk damaged him beyond repair, and we know from Justice League Incarnate that Mandrakk is a mere avatar of The Great Darkness, along with beings that scale from Perpetua like The Batman Who Laughs. In turn, The Great Darkness is an opponent or rival of The Light / Monitor-Mind, with The Great Darkness being in turn an avatar of Lucifer, if we take vol 3 as canonical. (clarified that I'm not saying it is but it would only be if someone took it into their personal headcanon with current information).
https://imgur.com/a/O2R8CmU
https://imgur.com/a/rlQX8vT
https://imgur.com/a/JmsFFRl
https://imgur.com/a/RyF0LZP
https://imgur.com/a/6EaO4NM
Finally, Lucifer himself is a creation of The Presence to define himself in the face of the nothingness that entails embodying the sum of all concepts, according to his own words. We also cannot forget beings like the Eternals, with the entire multiverse of Perpetua (including the sphere of the gods) being among the things within the book of Destiny.
https://imgur.com/a/odFhCkM
https://imgur.com/a/XpjAsRJ
In short, the Thought Robot is very high on DC's power scale, but it is not even remotely among the strongest.
Anyway, I hope you have a good day/afternoon/night or when you read this, I for one will go to sleep.

2024.05.15 11:25 JokeCultural9610 Vox. One soul. Five fragmented personalities. Can you help me develop the fanfic, please?

I want to develop a character who has DID derived from PTSD, which in turn arose from a four-day period of suffering different atrocities. The character has no explicit memories of this four-day period, but their subconscious locks it away to avoid the pain of trauma and develops disorders as a defense mechanism. In addition to the mentioned disorders, the character has developed a refusal to eat food due to an apparently irrational line of thought and sensation that if they eat, they would be hypocritical for something, and therefore, more guilty. The character has 5 personalities. So far, I've only been able to conceptualize 3: the assistant, the machine, and the monster.
The monster is the murderous and harmful personality. It's what the character most instinctively tries to avoid manifesting, even if they don't know exactly why. It's the embodiment of their potential evil, and its appearances are always accompanied by tension and suspense. Even if not actually manifested (or is it?), the mere fact of appearing in nightmares and hallucinations already triggers panic attacks in the character. This is the most mysterious personality because the character has doubts about the nature of this personality that doesn't offer many explanations beyond the simple fact that it knows everything about him and is playing and affecting him; Is it a personality or a distinct demon? Is it a delusion or is it real? Is it himself or a separate being pretending to be him to scare him? Is it capable of killing the personalities, and if so, why doesn't it do it immediately instead of leaving the personalities unharmed? Why psychologically torture him if the function of fragmented personalities is to help in self-preservation? If it's real, why does it let him escape at the end of its ''games''? This personality (or not) is physically the largest, the most technological, the most inhuman, and presents more feats of strength despite appearing less, all geared towards psychological torture mainly, a literal kind of haunting like Pennywise's. It wreaks psychological havoc on the character in each of its personalities, and the most sensitive one, which is the one the other personalities most try to avoid being impacted by the monster, is the assistant personality, the personality that personifies human essence and, being based on the Superego and Ego and reflecting the distant past spent with his deceased good mother whose values were transmitted in his childhood and adolescence, is the personality that tries to maintain order, predominate, and reunite the fragmented personalities, although this self-imposed role is not easy and it is difficult to deal with the fear of what could happen if people found out that he and the other four 'people' are actually the same person who has DID; it is difficult to represent order while his other parts are more inclined to chaos and there is no direct interaction between the personalities. The assistant personality has blindness, whose degree varies depending nuancemente on the external and internal security situation it feels, but is always present because it results from an unresolved trauma. Glasses are used, the only one who does this. Blindness is more present in the assistant personality and less manifested in the other personalities because they are more detached from humanity. The assistant personality is the most divergent from what the character was before DID. Its form is more human, shorter, and less cybernetic, precisely because it reflects a distant period from the current one of the character. (A side note: the character is, in a way, a shapeshifter, so its personalities have a distinct form, some more similar to each other and others less similar, and vice versa. The metamorphosis is restricted to the forms the character has already had in its life and afterlife, and those forms it did not have are a more adapted version of the personality concept). The assistant is the most sensitive personality and the one that most tries to be virtuous, and because of these characteristics, it is the most vulnerable to the monster.
The machine personality is the psychological barrier. A wall for any emotions. An internal shield for trauma. It looks like a robot, like a machine, both for sentimental and behavioral issues. It does not feel emotions, is extremely rational, and is very connected to technology. Indeed, it is the most technological personality in the purest sense of the word, while the monster personality is the most technological in the most monstrous sense. Its function is to offer a more impartial view of situations and, because of the monster, to be the most solid shield for the assistant personality not to be haunted directly (and possibly killed) by the monster.
There are 2 more personalities to develop, and I'm working on it since it's a new idea I had.
The character is Vox.
The conceptual ideas for this fanfic that I intend to create, combined with my hobby of self-studying psychology/psychoanalysis/psychiatry, made me realize that I attribute four disorders to Vox:
• DID: According to the DSM-5 criteria, to be considered DID it is necessary: ▪︎Two or more distinct identities or personality states are present, each with its own relatively enduring pattern of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and self. ▪︎Amnesia must occur, defined as gaps in the recall of everyday events, important personal information, and/or traumatic events. ▪︎The person must be distressed by the disorder or have trouble functioning in one or more major life areas because of the disorder. ▪︎The disturbance is not part of normal cultural or religious practices. ▪︎The symptoms cannot be due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (such as blackouts or chaotic behavior during alcohol intoxication) or a general medical condition (such as complex partial seizures).
• PTSD: Symptoms of PTSD fall into the following four categories. Specific symptoms can vary in severity.
Intrusion: Intrusive thoughts such as repeated, involuntary memories; distressing dreams; or flashbacks of the traumatic event. Flashbacks may be so vivid that people feel they are reliving the traumatic experience or seeing it before their eyes. Avoidance: Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event may include avoiding people, places, activities, objects and situations that may trigger distressing memories. People may try to avoid remembering or thinking about the traumatic event. They may resist talking about what happened or how they feel about it. Alterations in cognition and mood: Inability to remember important aspects of the traumatic event, negative thoughts and feelings leading to ongoing and distorted beliefs about oneself or others (e.g., “I am bad,” “No one can be trusted”); distorted thoughts about the cause or consequences of the event leading to wrongly blaming self or other; ongoing fear, horror, anger, guilt or shame; much less interest in activities previously enjoyed; feeling detached or estranged from others; or being unable to experience positive emotions (a void of happiness or satisfaction). Alterations in arousal and reactivity: Arousal and reactive symptoms may include being irritable and having angry outbursts; behaving recklessly or in a self-destructive way; being overly watchful of one's surroundings in a suspecting way; being easily startled; or having problems concentrating or sleeping. Many people who are exposed to a traumatic event experience symptoms similar to those described above in the days following the event. For a person to be diagnosed with PTSD, however, symptoms must last for more than a month and must cause significant distress or problems in the individual's daily functioning. Many individuals develop symptoms within three months of the trauma, but symptoms may appear later and often persist for months and sometimes years. PTSD often occurs with other related conditions, such as depression, substance use, memory problems and other physical and mental health problems.
The four tabs below provide brief descriptions of four conditions related to PTSD: acute stress disorder, adjustment disorder, disinhibited social engagement disorder, and reactive attachment disorder. Source: https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/ptsd/what-is-ptsd • Psychotic Depression: Psychotic depression Some people who have severe depression may also experience hallucinations and delusional thinking, the symptoms of psychosis.
Depression with psychosis is known as psychotic depression.
Symptoms of depression Someone with depression feels sad and hopeless for most of the day, practically every day, and has no interest in anything. Getting through the day feels almost impossible.
Other typical symptoms of depression may include:
fatigue (exhaustion) disturbed sleep changes in appetite feeling worthless and guilty being unable to concentrate or being indecisive thoughts of death or suicide Doctors describe depression as mild, moderate or severe depending on your symptoms, how long it lasts and how much it affects your daily life.
Read more about the psychological, physical and social symptoms of clinical depression
Symptoms of psychosis Having moments of psychosis (when people lose some contact with reality) means experiencing:
delusions – thoughts or beliefs that are unlikely to be true hallucinations – hearing and, in some cases, feeling, smelling, seeing or tasting things that are not there; hearing voices is a common hallucination The delusions and hallucinations almost always reflect the person's deeply depressed mood – for example, they may become convinced they're to blame for something, or that they've committed a crime.
"Psychomotor agitation" is also common. This means not being able to relax or sit still, and constantly fidgeting.
At the other extreme, a person with psychotic depression may have "psychomotor retardation", where both their thoughts and physical movements slow down.
People with psychotic depression have an increased risk of thinking about suicide. Source for more information: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/psychotic-depression/
• An as-yet unidentified eating disorder: This is the only one in which I do not know which exact diagnosis it fits into. It is a consequence of the trauma from the four-day period - including this period being one of the biggest mysteries in history and a great source of theories for readers, as it is the root of Vox's psychological mess, the divergence point that originated the entire fanfic and which the protagonist DOES NOT want to remember - that resulted in the trauma of eating. He does not feel like eating, not even the SIN OF GLUTTONY is able to make him eat - he is immune to her powers - and feels an apparently inexplicable instinct of guilt and hypocrisy when trying to eat, as if he were the worst being in the universe if he ate a food and a huge hypocrite; why and what exactly this innate thought of judging himself as a hypocrite is another mystery in the plot.
In this story, at least in the initial arcs, no one associates all five as being the same person, at most they associate only one/two of them with Vox. With the climaxes (yes, it's in the plural) throughout the story, the characters will find evidence and suspect and associate more and more of the other alters (as I call Vox's fragmented personalities) with the same person, which increases the narrative tension. Being the assistant personality the last to be accurately associated by the other characters, although she was the one that had the most tension and care in NOT being associated throughout the story because she is the human essence of Vox, reflects more the fragility of his soul state and is not ready to deal with the harsh social consequences that the actions of the other alters and Vox before DID caused, needing solid support and not wanting to lose all the friendly social relationships, although fragile, that he built as a separate being from Vox and the other alters. It is easier to hate than to love. The assistant personality does not want to risk losing the little support he has built. These relationships are extremely valuable to him. He doesn't want to have this taken away from him anymore. The relationships he built are based on the inhabitants of Hazbin Hotel.
All alters have Vox's trademark: the TV as
a head. All... except the assistant personality. This alter is the ONLY one that has a human head and is the smallest, being even a few centimeters smaller than Lucifer. The size of his hair goes up to just above his shoulders, but he ties them in a professional hairstyle. His clothes are similar to those of an assistant, and they have a palette of blue, black, and white colors. The color of his hair, influenced by his powers as a Media Demon, is black with dark blue streaks and tips.
His human appearance reflects a period when Vox was human. In my story Vox is a trans man, which means he was born female and went through a transition at some point in his adolescence or adulthood. The appearance of the assistant personality reflects an episode during his 13/14 years. In this episode, he did a special show for his father's assistant at a fancy restaurant. It was her last night in his life as she would unfortunately be sent away without a chance to return, and he was aware of this. He also knew that his father was responsible for her being sent away, although his innocence at the time made him not immediately detect that she would be KILLED by a hired hitman hired by the father and mother. The assistant was a loved one by the teenage Vox. She was a loving mother he never had, and because of the emotional attachment to her, he decided to do a musical show, showing for the first and last time to anyone his talent for piano and violin. He, at the time still not going through the transition, dressed more masculinely, used the best appearance he could, and used a pseudonym to enter the restaurant and make the presentation without being detected by the family. He did not explicitly specify for whom the music was intended, but the assistant, secretly his true biological mother, knew it was for her. That was the last time he would see her, and he made every second of that night count.
Vox's human female name was Elizabeth. I chose this name because it is a beautiful name, it was the name of the former queen of the United Kingdom, and it was the name of one of Jack the Ripper's victims, Elizabeth Stride.
Vox, during his adult life as a man and even post-death, buried his past as a woman. It was not a source of pride, especially for the family abuses suffered and the transphobia of the time. If the Vees, the people closest to him currently, do not have a deep understanding of Vox's human life as a man, imagine their knowledge of the initial part of his life before the transition!
That's why being called "Elizabeth" during the direct and indirect appearances of the monster personality already causes genuine and unmasked panic in him. It is an indication of knowledge of his deepest layers.
The story has a suspenseful atmosphere, with some horror scenes. We follow the alters individually, and as the story progresses, we realize along with the protagonist some strange, wrong things. The alters do not communicate directly with each other and, therefore, the character does not immediately perceive the signs of having multiple personalities. It was as if there were four people in one body and none of them noticed, according to the perspective of the assistant personality, the alter that we slowly follow discovering the huge web of the situation he's in. There's something very wrong with Vox, more specifically his soul. But there's an invisible barrier that prevents the character from investigating further, like an elephant in the middle of the room. Each alter has its own course, all acting as if they were distinct people and not associating with each other. This is bad socially speaking in the long run, because sooner or later the clash of beliefs and values built among the alters will come into conflict and the individual consequences of their actions will negatively impact each other. The monster personality served to add more salt to the wound. It is by far the most harmful, appearing little but causing a huge mess in return. Don't think of it as a kind of Hulk, because Hulk is a destructive monster that his counterpart, Bruce, can try to control and turn into a hero, and everyone is aware of Hulk's nature, which is easy to understand and try to contain; whereas the monster personality is an enigma at the same time as it is a nightmare, there is no discussion with it, it causes psychological terror in Vox's alters, its apparently internal actions affect the external world of the alters, it is unpredictable, it is the literal meaning of hell. The monster personality has already caused physical harm to the alters, although they did not exactly remember, mainly the assistant personality, the most oblivious of all for a reason. I want to relate the monster personality to Roo.

2024.05.15 11:25 Anteatereatingant The Obsession With "MiNDSeTt"

As someone who teaches concrete skills (I'm a language teacher, in case anyone wondered), the coaching industry's obsession with "mIndSeTt" weirded me out from the get-go.
I thought "what IS it with those people and their constant rambling about MindSEt, when most of them don't even have psych degrees?! Hell, the psychologists I know don't talk about it half as much as the 'coaches.'"
Eventually, it dawned on me: it's the perfect grift. Think about it:
1. they don't have to provide anything concrete.
People like me need to, you know...be fluent in the languages we teach, and competent teachers. We need a CV that demonstrates a track record of getting students from A to B2. If you're a personal trainer, you need to demonstrate you can get, and have gotten, people to lose X weight, improve Y metric of their fitness.
And so on; most professions need real skills and potentially even real qualifications beyond "shameless self-promotion" and "the ability to memorize and regurgitate feelgoodsy fortune-cookie platitudes". Pretty much only in "coaching" can any rando with zero proof of concept saunter in and decide to call themselves a pro or "expert". So it makes sense that it attracts people with that magical thinking / get-rich-quick personality style, who think they've discovered the magic loophole to print free money. You know...
1. call yourself "coach" or "expert"
2. charge a buttload for a bit of fortune-cookie platitudes and glorified motivational speaking
3. blame the clients' "miNDsETt" when they don't get the promised results
4. PROFIT!
2. it builds in a failsafe.
You didn't get the results they promised? Well, that must be your MiiinDSSeTt. After all, you 'know' it's 99% MIndSet - they groomed you to believe this, well before you even bought. And since MiNdSeYuTT is an unfalsifiable claim, it gives them a convenient way out; after all, it's pretty hard to conclusively prove it wasn't your MUyYIndSYEt that got in the way of your success. There is no Mindset-O-Meter we can use to conclusively prove what they did or didn't upgrade or shift.
It's about as hard as conclusively proving it wasn't the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or Karma, or any other invisible boogeyman. So, party time for the "coaches"! They get to keep selling abstract fluff, blame the customer when it doesn't work, and laugh all the way to the bank.
...That's the dream, at least. If you've been around those people you know that it's mostly wishful thinking because most of them are broke and just desperately hoping they can fake it 'till they make it. Another reason to keep pushing the "mindset" angle: they want to feel like they've got a fighting chance despite their lack of real skills, or qualifications, or proof of concept.
That's my armchair diagnosis. What's your experience with that obsession?

2024.05.15 11:23 torment0t Need help/advice finishing my gaming rig

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Gaming. Games like wow, Cyberpunk, Helldivers 2, total war Warhammer 3, some modded skyrim and grand strategy games like Hearts of iron IV. I got 2 1440p 144hz monitors. I'd like to play new AAA single player games in decent quality. Nothing special like video editing or AI stuff.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
500 - 700€
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Within the next few days.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower except CPU, GPU and RAM (I bought them in another country for much cheaper). No peripherals needed.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Austria, Vienna (no Microcenter)
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
ASRock Phantom Gaming OC Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB Video Card G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Maybe if I need to for better performance in a few years.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Minimum of 2 tb storage, a motherboard with WiFi and a modular power supply.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Mid tower or maybe Micro ATX if there are no real downsides. I like RGB but it's not important. I love the design of the fractal north but it's not a must have.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No.

2024.05.15 11:16 Acrobatic_One_5657 $1500 or under gaming PC

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
This is a replacement PC for a younger child. The current PC he uses is on its way out and due to its gimmicky nature I dont want to repair / upgrade (its a msi trident3).
PC will mostly be used to play games. Lego games, primarily Lego2k and Skywalker Saga, along with stuff like Minecraft and Roblox.
Will also be used as a media center.
Don't need or expect 4k. Preferably would like good support for 1440p.
Cooling and to some degree noise are priorities. I'm not expecting silent in the price range, but I'd like something that can maintain decent Temps and not sound like a jet like the Trident.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
I don't know how much I need to pay to get what I want. I can probably go up to 1500 if I need to, but would prefer to keep it under that if possible.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Now / Right away assuming I'm able to find things I'm happy with.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower / hardware components only. No peripherals or OS needs to be factored in.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
USA, rural Arkansas. Online shipping options are my only real options usually.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Nothing in particular / I can manage this part I think.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
No. Maybe overclock the RAM but probably won't bother. Will not be overclocking CPU or GPU.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
SSD storage, preferably M.2 support. My primary PC is AMD CPU and GPU but I'm open to other options. Wary of Intel GPUs, but open to suggestion.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Would prefer a relatively small case, either microATX or mid Tower. Doesn't need a window or glass. Function over form. Color theme isn't needed, but prefer a case that isn't too 'gamer aesthetic'. Prefer no LEDs but I know that's challenging.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Nah.
Extra info or particulars:
Some of this is vague and I know that. I'm replacing this Trident (an older one, not sure what gen but it's got a 2060 Super in it). If I can get something at least marginally more performant, that's quieter playing modern games at mid to high settings at least, I'll be happy. If this was for me I'd just build myself, but where I need help is choosing parts that aren't overkill, but also arent garbage.

2024.05.15 11:03 xBrutalBear Seeking advise for warehousing solution/WMS-system

Hello,
I'm currently interning at a medium-sized company that manufactures beds, and my job is to look into Warehouse Management System (WMS).

2024.05.15 11:00 AKOKAQAWFUL Low to Mid Stakes Live MTT. Too wide a defend in the BB??

I've been playing live since post-covid and have been trying to take it semi-seriously as a side income. I started out the first 1yr-18mths mixing it up between cash and MTT's, then the past 2yrs switched to solely live cash as my results were better in cash and I preferred the consistency and was struggling with the higher variance of MTT's.
The last month or two I decided to take a stab at MTT's again as there are quite a few good tournament series in area in the coming months.
In the first series which fired bullets in 4 tournaments, I had semi-decent results (a couple of deep runs, bubbled the $1500 3-day main event and final tabled 8th out 262 runners in a $300 2-day side event).
I guess my question is regarding how to maintain mental fortitude when it comes to MTT's and the sure fire feeling of dejection that comes after busting, esp when you've gotten the chips in way ahead. I think I can actually cope more with when I get the chips in behind and go out, because I can look at the spot and if I made a mistake, look to alter my play to avoid this leak/spot in future.
It's the many times where you get the chips in either as slight or more pertinently, massive favourite, yet you are the one walking to the exit. What is the best way to cope with this and not get disheartened. My last 5 exits from MTT's have all come when I've gotten my chips in either just ahead or as 2-1 or 85/15 favourite.
One most recent example where I got all the chips in on the flop as a big favourite, 68% / 32%.
I would like to go over this hand history as I'm wondering did I need to defend my BB this wide, and if I just fold pre would I have avoided a whole lot of unnecessary hardship.
So:
Blinds are 400/800/800.
I have main villain well covered with around 38k. Villain is 25k effective, the other two opponents in the hand have similar or slightly less than him.
Villain in UTG+1 opens to 2k with AdAc. MP calls, SB calls and I look down at 94dd.
Now I hesitate as to whether I should defend this 4 gapper in this spot, but the fact that it was suited and I only had to put in 1200 to close the action and see the flop in a near 9k pot leaned me towards completing.
I complete
Pot 8800. The flop comes jinn for me, 2d 5d 7d. SB checks, I check, Villain c-bets 2500, MP folds, SB folds.
I c/r to 10k ( I picked this sizing to be roughly half his remaining stack, to give him the signal that I ain't folding).
He promptly ignores my signal and jams for his remaining 22k total. I snap him off. Turn a brick and River the King of diamonds, see's the pot shipped to him and me on life support with around 13BB's as the blinds increase to 500/1k/1k.
Before the blinds get around to me I get them in on a flip and lose.
I suppose my question is two-fold.
  1. Do I need to be getting involved in the hand defending with 94dd? Or does the fact I was closing the action and getting 7/1 pot odds make it a slam dunk call or is this hand to wide a defend facing 3 opponents?
    1. Once I do get involved, and get the exactly the type of flop I was hoping for, should I just jam when he c-bets. (This is not really the question, I think the villain in question probably snaps even if I jam, but maybe 🤔).
I ultimately think I'm fine with how I played it once I flop it like that.
My real second question is how do you deal with effectively exiting tourney after tourney like this over and over again without questioning your sanity and rage quitting MTT's altogether.
So was I too wide in defending my BB in this particular set up?
And, any MTT mental fortitude tips much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I was excited about the Biomes as it looked like you'd make a 3D scan of your feet and get a bespoke shoe but now I have access to the site it states:
"The Hybrid is not bespoke but each pair is made to order on one of 36 data-driven lasts, each computationally driven from 9 data points, derived from over 100,000 foot scans and thousands of hours of real-world testing."
Assuming they have 12 sizes, that's 3 different widths/shapes per shoe size, for £260! What's the point of these being made to order if this is the approach? Why not just sell regular shoes (e.g. Primus Lite Knit) in 3 different widths for half the price?
If it was the full 3D scan, bespoke-made then I was prepared to drop $260 but I'll give these a miss.

Driving Results: Harnessing the Power of Ad Servers for Enhanced Campaign Performance
https://preview.redd.it/e1lgwqjcxj0d1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c99748643db65daf39f3e6740119e1d5a7260a9
In the bustling world of digital marketing, where every click and impression counts, the ability to drive tangible results is paramount. Amidst this cacophony of data and strategies, ad servers emerge as the unsung heroes, silently powering campaigns to new heights of success. In this article, we'll delve into the pivotal role ad servers play in enhancing campaign performance and driving measurable results.
Understanding the Role of Ad Servers
At its essence, an ad server is a technological marvel that acts as the nerve center of digital advertising campaigns. It's the tool that ensures ads are displayed to the right audience, at the right time, and in the right context. Ad servers manage the entire lifecycle of an ad campaign, from ad serving and targeting to tracking and reporting.
Precision Targeting: Reaching the Right Audience
One of the most potent capabilities of ad servers lies in their ability to execute precision targeting. By leveraging a trove of data and sophisticated algorithms, ad servers can pinpoint specific demographics, interests, and behaviors with laser-like precision.
Imagine a scenario where a pet food company wants to promote its new line of organic dog treats. Through the power of ad servers, they can target individuals who have shown an interest in pets, organic products, or related keywords. This hyper-targeted approach ensures that the ads are delivered to those most likely to be interested in the product, maximizing the chances of engagement and conversion.
Optimizing Campaign Performance: The Key to Success
Driving results in digital marketing requires constant optimization and fine-tuning of campaign parameters. Ad servers excel in this aspect by providing real-time performance insights and analytics.
Marketers can monitor key metrics such as click-through rates, conversion rates, and return on investment (ROI) directly within the ad server interface. Armed with this data, they can identify underperforming aspects of the campaign and make informed adjustments on the fly.
For example, if a particular ad creative is generating low engagement, marketers can quickly swap it out for a new variation. Similarly, if a certain demographic segment is responding particularly well to the campaign, marketers can allocate more budget towards targeting that segment for enhanced results.
Dynamic Ad Serving: Personalization at Scale
In the age of personalization, generic one-size-fits-all ads no longer cut it. Customers crave personalized experiences tailored to their preferences and interests. Ad servers make this possible through dynamic ad serving capabilities.
Using data such as browsing history, purchase behavior, and geographic location, ad servers can dynamically generate ads that resonate with individual users. Whether it's showcasing products they've previously viewed or offering personalized discounts based on their past purchases, dynamic ad serving allows marketers to deliver tailored experiences at scale.
Cross-Channel Integration: Creating Cohesive Campaigns
With customers engaging with brands across multiple channels and devices, maintaining consistency and coherence is crucial. Ad servers facilitate cross-channel integration by ensuring that ads are delivered seamlessly across various platforms and touchpoints.
Whether someone encounters an ad while browsing the web on their laptop, scrolling through their social media feed on their smartphone, or watching videos on their tablet, they receive a consistent message that reinforces brand identity and messaging. This unified approach enhances brand recall and increases the likelihood of conversion.
Conclusion: Maximizing Results with Ad Servers
In conclusion, ad servers are indispensable tools for driving results and maximizing campaign performance in the dynamic landscape of digital marketing. From precision targeting and real-time optimization to dynamic ad serving and cross-channel integration, ad servers offer a suite of capabilities that empower marketers to achieve their goals and objectives.
By harnessing the power of ad servers, businesses can unlock new opportunities for growth, engagement, and conversion. As technology continues to evolve and customer behaviors evolve, ad servers will remain at the forefront of digital advertising, driving results and delivering value for brands around the globe.
So, the next time you embark on a digital advertising campaign, remember the power of ad servers – your trusted ally in the pursuit of enhanced campaign performance and tangible results.

2024.05.15 10:35 JokeCultural9610 Vox.

2024.05.15 09:58 Calamity_Armor So, this is my humble opinion on why the game is not doing well

INTRO: First and foremost, I don't know if anyone cares, but I just reached Plat 2. For someone with a full-time job, I think I did pretty well, although my KDR is quite bad.
HOW IT STARTED: I think the game got a ton of hype in the beta for a good reason. It was explosive, sparkly, good-looking, and the CS:GO x Valorant x Apex hybrid that we were looking for. As a veteran Apex player, I can say that Apex feels so bloated these days, with so many new layers added each season in a desperate attempt to keep the game relevant, that I no longer recognize the game I fell in love with some years ago.
Ending the side story, The Finals did very well in the alpha/beta because everyone was a noob, and we were just messing around. When it got released, the classic "playing meta characters/weapons" settled in, and some powers/weapons/even classes became irrelevant, at the very least for the solo queue experience.
WHAT I LIKE: The graphics and movement system are unmatched for me. Even Apex falls short when it comes to movement and the numerous ways you can approach a situation due to the destruction physics. I think the only time Apex gets the lead is in map sizes, but we are talking about barren lands vs high-dense housing buildings.
The overall Mirror Edge aesthetics and battlefield destruction physics, combined with Apex sweatiness, is a winning combo for me. The game oozes with personality, even in the marketing materials. As a graphic designer, I recognize something that others may not. For example, on most marketing materials including the website, you can see printing artifacts and errors, which in a web environment should not make sense, but the game wants to give you the feeling of "this is a real billboard/poster that is going to be placed in the real world because this is a real event," which I think is really great.
This might be the most fast-paced game I've ever played, and I love it. It really gives you that adrenaline kick, and you don't have to walk 50 km to find an enemy team like in Apex.
Great performance, for the way it looks and moves, the team behind it did a pretty good job preserving the looks that we saw on YouTube (some downgrades happened, obviously) for the time when the game got released.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE: The game fails, and let's not sugarcoat it, we are in freefall as of now because it fails to attract new players. We all know that; even the streamers are not touching it. I think, at the end of the day, the game is not fun solo, which let's be real, not many of us have that many friends, or better yet, not often are you able to sync with a bunch of people in order to play.
Personally, I would've focused more on environmental destruction and less on the pew-pew part. I don't really know how to put it into words, but I believe the game would've been more inviting if the environmental destruction (the main gimmick of the game) played a bigger role and not the classic "HHM or MMM" team combos that we see every day. Most of the time, I play the same game where no one dares to pick the sword, the shield, or another weapon that does not make sense. I am always punished by teammates when I pick the flamethrower, for example.
The new maps are terrible, let's face it. Vegas and the Glitching map are just bad. The starting maps are glorious; the fact that they took real places (most of the time) and transformed them into an arena is genius. They could have expanded it every year with cities around the world and even inspired the battle pass skins on the country the new map was coming from but maintaining the sports apparel vibe and feel of the game.
The game is detaching from Mirror Edge's aesthetics, and this is a big no-no for me. I love skins as much as the next guy, but if you pay attention, most of the free skins the game gives you are sports apparel, which is great for the game. I don't mind if the skins are even fancier sports apparel, but I fail to see how a $19 bunny costume or an Elvis costume would fit into the game. I think the skins are random af and not in a good way.
Lastly and arguably the most important, the lack of any social interaction... I get that text chat was thought through for toxicity reasons, but I think the game could borrow a page from League of Legends or Fortnite's book when it comes to introducing the social element into the game. These things have been said before: a global chat, an actual clan system, menus that help you see who you played with, check profiles, and add those players, make players play with one another, and create the bridges that are necessary for players to connect with one another.
