Malaysia berdikari

2024.05.13 18:35 tersxin Malaysia berdikari

2024.05.13 08:39 wowelephants My three week experience in Japan - from the perspective of a Vietnamese-Canadian gay solo traveller who loves shopping

Just came back a few days ago from a 3 week trip to Japan. Here was my experience:
To preface:
General overview:
Day 1-3: Tokyo - I landed right on Pride weekend! It was fantastic. I knew only 1 person in Tokyo and I had some friends randomly also in Tokyo the same time I was. We went out for a drag brunch, one of the first of its kind in Japan as it's still a very new concept for the country. Performers were great though. Went to the Shinjuku gay district and had a blast discovering all these cool bars all with different vibes. It's also a great place to meet locals, tourists and immigrants (not just immigrants from Western countries, but from other Asian countries like China, Vietnam, Korea etc. who now live in Japan). There was also a festival for Pride in Yoyogi park and it was crowded and fun. Great to see Tokyo really embracing Pride.
Day 4-10: Based myself in Osaka but went exploring with my Setouchi JR West Pass throughout the week I was in Osaka. Went to Hiroshima and Miyajima Island, Nagoya so I can make my way to Ghibli Park (not a part of JR West so I paid out of pocket for that), and went to Kyoto twice. Overall, I really liked Osaka. I love big cities that are lively and noisy. I don't mind the crowds when I am also shopping in the Dotonbori area. The best part was cutting my day short in Kyoto because I was feeling sick, and then discovering that there was an exclusive Sailor Moon Museum happening in Namba and deciding to get tickets for that. Best unplanned experience that was actually better than Ghibli Park. Also, shopped on Orange Street, one of the best places for fashion lovers. Osaka castle was great but the line up to get in the castle was way too long and the day was super hot. Got to a see a high school Kendo tournament going on though so that was a neat experience!
Day 11-12: Flew to Sapporo from Osaka. It was cold. Windy on the first day. Rainy on the second day. Overall, just cold. Not Canadian Winter cold, but I wish I had a warmer jacket cold. It was the few places that had cherry blossoms left. The Sapporo Beer Museum was really neat and I liked learning about the history of such an iconic brand.
Day 13-21: Back to Tokyo. I am a remote worker and my job doesn't care where I work so I took the opportunity to save some vacation days for a future trip, and just work remotely while exploring Tokyo and surrounding areas. Went to Mt. Fuji for a day and back, did not get to see the mountain as it was really rainy and foggy that day. Wento the lucky cat shrine and it was cute but also busy for such a small shrine thanks to TikTok. Went out to the gay bars two more times and had a blast and met some new people (locals and tourists) who I still keep in contact with on social media. Got a tattoo at one point - LOVE IT. The artist was amazing and so gentle, I hardly felt anything. Did some more shopping in Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku and my favourite place - Harajuku! Overall, I really enjoyed Tokyo and my Japan trip as this was my first time.
Time and weather:
Getting around:
Eating:
As much as I loved having a list of some places to eat at, I abandoned it and didn't really care anymore. From high-end restaurants, cafes, local places and even fast-food, everything was delicious. I stopped caring about where I ate, and just took a walk down any street and when I saw a menu I liked, I just went in. Honestly, even Denny's in Japan was amazing (it's a different menu and not like Denny's in Canada).
Shopping experience:
Loved shopping in Japan. I brought one large suitcase that was empty, put a smaller suitcase inside of it and then had my backpack and carry on suitcase. The yen was weaker than CAD, plus if you spend over 5,500 yen, and show them your passport, you'll get the tax off and some stores offer additional discounts for foreign passport holders.
Brands I bought:
A personal view:
I really like Japan and I would go again, but now that I've experienced it, I now know what I like and don't like. As much as everyone raves about Kyoto, I honestly didn't care for it. Inari shrine was great, the climb to the top was great exercise and most people give up not even halfway up so it gets less and less busy. I also like Nishiki market as I love street food in Vietnam so that type of vibe of just trying everything was a great experience. But honestly, Kyoto was a tourist trap (as with most places). Gion district was cute but you definitely won't find locals hanging there unless they work there. The street will be quiet for 10 minutes, then the next set of tour buses will come, 8 taxis will come and the whole experience walking through the street is kind of ruined. Also, it just felt a bit like...Disneyland. Everything was catered to tourists. I'm not someone who even seeks out places where locals are so you can meet locals as I don't really care that much if I meet a tourist or a local, if it happens it happens, but I'm not obsessed with it. But I somehow just got this feeling that Gion has been warped into a thing for tourists who are sold an "authentic, cultural experience". It reminds me of tourist traps in Vietnam, and maybe I only have this view because I've experienced Vietnam too. Perhaps a non-Asian tourist won't see this and to each their own of course. It didn't really help that there were signs saying don't take photos on private streets, and tourists would stand in front of those signs and start taking photos...
Another take is that the Japan that's shown to you on TV shows, dramas and the news is not the Japan you'll experience (unless you're always a part of a tour group). The media portrays Japan as a nation that is ONLY Japanese people, and that you will only meet Japanese people serving you and that despite a low birth rate, immigration is just not a thing in Japan. This is false. I can't count the number of times where I'll order food, have the cashier speak to me in English and Japanese (because I don't know Japanese), sit down and then hear the cashier and other staff speak Vietnamese. It dawned on me that pretty much all the food service staff were Vietnamese in Osaka and Tokyo. Probably more in other areas if I paid attention more. I started speaking Vietnamese back to them and they were surprised that I knew they were Viet. We made some pleasant conversation and for the most part they liked that someone acknowledged that they were Vietnamese. However, one time, one girl told me not to speak Viet to her or she'll get in trouble. The staff are allowed to speak Vietnamese to each other but not to the customer because the boss didn't want people to know that they weren't being served by Japanese people. Some places were more obvious such as people from Nepal, India or Pakistan working there but spoke perfect Japanese. Some places clearly only hired Vietnamese people because they can pass as Japanese. This was more shocking to me than any culture shock I could have experienced as a Canadian.
I think there's a sense of Japan being a rich nation, aligned with the US, that it's better than places like Vietnam. But after spending some time in both countries, I saw that even buildings were built in a similar way. Narrow staircases, no baseboards, sometimes low ceilings, and businesses stacked on top of each. I loved Japan and like I said, I would go again. But I think I would stick to just to Tokyo and Osaka next time. Both are also very touristy but not in a way that it's disguised as anything else. Osaka Dotonbori is a place to shop. People know that. It's extremely crowded, but you're there to shop, not for a cultural experience. If I were to go elsewhere, I would try Okinawa and maybe a rural experience too. But other than that, I'm someone who goes for the shopping and eating experience and the nightlife. I know some people might not agree with my take, as most subs about traveling to Japan always seem to be finding an authentic Japanese experience. But being able to realize that some people serving you aren't Japanese and that most experiences are waterdown and overpriced tourist experiences, you quickly realize that authentic Japanese experiences (as with any country popular with tourists) are hard to come by.
Edit: I replaced the term expat with immigrant for sensitivity.
Edit 2:
Just to provide more details on my experience that contrasts a lot of what you may find on Reddit.
Cleanliness:
Yes, parts of Tokyo and Japan itself is clean. But I have seen some parts of Toyko with garbage on the ground. Osaka is more obviously dirty if you want to put it that way. More garbage on the street, especially at night. My local friend told me that Japanese people are just good at hiding their litter and when they think no one is watching, they do litter.
Homelessness:
I saw homelessness. In Asakusa where my hotel was, there was one homeless lady on the main street near Don Quitos. I also some when you are walking to Shibuya Scramble Square. It's a big city, I'm sure homelessness is an issue there. I saw a TikTok while I was there about homeless runway children in the Shibuya and Shinjuku area.
Shyness/Attitude:
I was always told that many Japanese wouldn't really want to make small talk with you. But honestly it really depends. I had pink hair and had my nails done with a cute fun design on them. So many cashiers, retail people etc. wanted to compliment my nails and tell me how cute they were. Even leaving Japan, as I was going through security, the security lady complimented my nails as I was placing my liquids and computers in a bin. I also carried around a Sailor Moon tote bag I got from the museum and strangers on the street were stopping me to compliment it. I'm a man and I have my nails done, pink hair and a Sailor Moon tote bag. If you give them a reason to talk to you, they will.
Weak yen:
The best part about clubbing is going to the 7-11 near the gay district alleys, buying cheap alcohol, drinking it with your newly made friends, and then going back into the club to dance some more before doing it again 20 minutes later. Alcohol is so cheap there! 450 yen for a can of Jack Daniels and Coke...that's like $2-3 Canadian. We Canadians usually pay $6 or $8 for a can!
More on fashion:
I tried my best to avoid buying brands I could get in North America but sometimes the exchange rate and no tax was too good. Commes Des Garcon Play sneakers in Canada are $200 before tax. Found a design that isn't available in Canada, no tax and the conversion made them $160. Had to get them. Bought a Dior cardholder that's $480 before tax in Canada. No tax and converted price in Japan turned out to be $390. I say definitely look for the Japanese brands you can't get back home because you'll come back with more unique pieces (even if it's a popular, mass product in Japan) but also if you have your eye on designer pieces, chances are the piece is cheaper in Japan. The only thing I found that Hermes and Chanel were the same price or more expensive in Japan. But other brands like Gucci, Dior, Prada, Burberry and Louis Vuitton were cheaper.
Even Uniqlo is cheaper. The viral bag that people like is $25 in Canada. In Japan it's $13. There was a Golden Week sale that made the bags $8 each.
I did avoid some brands like A.P.C or Diesel (which is everywhere in Japan) because despite it being cheaper, I know when there's a sale on SSENSE it's even cheaper than what you could get in Japan.

2024.05.11 22:43 shaneka69 Chrisean Rock Astrology Forecast As Of May 11, 2024

Chrisean Rock Astrology Forecast As Of May 11, 2024

With Mother's Day tomorrow and Chrisean Rock being a new mom, let's just do an updated astrology reading for her by checking her birth chart.
As we know, Chrisean was born in Baltimore and is known for her appearance on Baddies with Natalie Nunn and her own show she had with Blueface.
We know that she is a Pisces which is her sun sign/zodiac sign. She has a Cancer Moon which rules your emotions and emotional state.
Uranus is currently sextile Chrisean Rock's sun which means that she will be openly showing unpredictability and will likely be shocking people and even herself.
Uranus is in her 12th house which is the house of the unknown and blind spots as well. This can mean that she will have breakthroughs and insights. Could even result in premonitions and informative dream states.
Pluto is the planet known for exposing and causing change and this planet is currently opposing her North Node which shows that there will be a gradual process in her doing what she is supposed to be doing and going in the right direction. Pluto isn't making any connections with her personal planets yet, so she isn't expected to be going through anything too major right now.
Jupiter sextile her sun is giving her the expanding energy for her sports endeavor. Her Aries Mars will always see her through naturally though.
Let's go forward to the following month, June on this day to see what she may be experiencing.
Jupiter is the ruler of her 7th and 10th house and on June 11, 2024, she will have Jupiter squaring her Venus and Mercury which means that there can be issues with points getting across or communication issues between her and family or her and Blueface. She is likely to be intuitive around this time with Jupiter making a trine to her natal Neptune.
Since Jupiter will be squaring her Mercury and Venus, let's put focus on the fact that Mercury rules her ascendant and 4th house which is why there can be a link with family or her lover if it isn't about her mindset. Virgo being in her 4th house though makes it more tangible. Venus rules her 12th house and 5th house of romance and children. Basically this whole Jupiter aspect transit could be connected to her family. Let's see what happens.

2024.05.11 10:04 Fubukishirou430 Zygarde's Crew (Rogue AU)

2 years later...
Place: A house in Gangseo
Zygarde: I'm going off!
A tall, pale-skinned teenager wearing a high school uniform stood at the entrance. His uniform included a red blazer, a white shirt, and black pants. The boy had white hair in a double curtain that ended in green streaks. He had heterochromia, with his left eye blue and his right eye grey. He wore round glasses that sat firmly on his nose.
[North Gangseo (No 5): "Commander" Zygarde Lee]: 192 cm, 88 kg; ???, ???, A+ (Awakened), S+, ???
Hae-in: Say bye to Daddy!
A 2-year-old was sitting down and pouting. She had chubby cheeks and big round eyes -- the colours taking after her father. She has black hair like her mother. She was wearing a light blue onesie.
Her mother had short black hair and black eyes. She wore round glasses like her husband. She had tattoos on her arms and back. She wore a white waffle T-shirt and black shorts that ended just above the knees.
[Hae-in Kim]: ???, ???, A(Awakened), B, ??? [Yeon Hwa Lee] ???,???, S,???,???
Yeon Hwa toddles over and hugs Zygarde's leg. She looks up with big eyes, pleading silently for Zygarde not to go.
Zygarde lifts her and nuzzles her — Yeon giggles.
Zygarde: Oh what will I do with you?
Zygarde and Yeon both look at Hae-in with puppy dog eyes.
Zygarde: Hon- Hae-in: No. Zygarde: But I haven't even- Hae-in: No. Zygarde (whispering): Time to pull that move Yeon! Zygarde and Hwa Yeon (eyes sparkling): M-mama... Hae-in (deadpan): No means no. Hwa Yeon (pouting): Bwummer... Zygarde: You evil woman. You want to separate my daughter from me!
Hae-in sighed and ruffled their heads. She smiled.
Hae-in: The both of you...
Zygarde gave Yeon back to Hae-in. Yeon grabbed his finger.
Yeon: Papa... Zygarde: Yeon... Hae-in: Enough with the drama! You're gonna be late brat! Zygarde: Fine :(
Zygarde runs off, blowing a kiss to his daughter and wife. His daughter squealed and his wife cringed.
A while later...
Place: North Gangseo Office: The Guards
[North Gangseo (No 4):"???" ???]
A jovial teenager hugged Zygarde. He had bright orange hair and a scar on his face. He had olive green eyes and a wide smile. He wore an unbuttoned red blazer and black pants.
Zygarde: Yo! ??? (4): Zy!
The men gave each other a bear hug.
Zygarde: How's our "Lu Bu" doing? "Lu Bu": Great!

Zygarde: Great. We can start the meeting.
Zygarde's men stood behind "Lu Bu", and the rest of the executives sat down and Zygarde started his meeting.
Zygarde revealed his first slide. How much territory they had gained over the past 2 months leading to the summit.
Zygarde (pointing): Here is the "DMZ" or "Maginot Line". Our progress has been halted ever since Brad of Big Deal showed up. Numbers 19 and 20 were sent to infiltrate. We have not heard from them ever since.
Yechan: Could they have betrayed us?
Zygarde: No clue. Their territories are under No 18 right now. Execs below them are scrambling to the border and reinforcing the line. Word has it the South is regrouping and preparing to launch an offensive.
Seol Jin (stands up): We should start moving then. What are we waiting for?
[North Gangseo (No 10): "Vanguard" Kim Seol Jin]: LR+, LR, B(Awakened), C, LR+
Yechan (patting Seol Jin on the shoulder): Calm down.
[North Gangseo (No 8): "Tactician" Oh Yechan]: UR, LR+, B+(Awakened), S, UR
Zygarde: I understand your concerns Seol Jin. But please listen to what I have to say.
Zygarde pointed to the map once more.
Zygarde: Thanks to the efforts of "Lu Bu" and the action force leaders, we have established footholds in Ojeon-dong, Oseo-dong and Gaehwa-dong.
"Lu Bu" reclined his chair and flicked his sunglasses. The men surrounding him did the same.
Yun: Jokesters.
Zygarde: Samgawi. You're up.
Samgawi took the position of Zygarde and began his presentation.
Samgawi: Thank You. As he mentioned, we've taken care of most of the regions. Using this, we could cross over the line and attack the very heart of the South -- Naebalsan-dong.
Samgawi also pointed at Bucheon.
Samgawi: Very soon, we may even be able to take over Bucheon.
William: Well what about the original plan of going through Haneul Park?
Samgawi: That will be done too -- a two-pronged attack. The 5 greats are on it.
Zygarde stepped in.
Zygarde: Our job is to support them.
Zygarde: Action
Zygarde: Kai. William Action Force A and B. Haneul Park.

2024.05.11 04:54 shaneka69 Chrisean Rock Numerology Report

Chrisean Rock Numerology Report

This Numerology report will be for Chrisean Rock who was born in Baltimore Maryland and who is a star based on her connection to Blueface and Natalie Nunn's Baddies show on Zeus Network.
Chrisean's Numerology Report will be a decoding all from her name, not her birthday. Her birthday is one thing that can't ever change in her lifetime so that energy is fixed and general.
Chrisean's full name is "Chrisean Eugenia Malone". I will first decode her first name separately as it's the most significant energy and then I will do a full name decode as well.
Let's start breaking down her name.
C - This is the third letter of the alphabet which gives it the energy of 3 and 3 energy could be very social or creative. This can also give someone a child like impression or there could be something about them that is very jolly or it reminds you of a child sometimes. This can make them come off approachable at times as well. Names that start with this letter, it makes three and the letter C the most significant energy. This shows how Chrisean and anyone else who has a name that starts with this letter approaches the world and people around them in a very curious manner. These people wake up every day waiting to explore and seeing what they can learn or find out for that day.
H - H is connected to energy that has pressure but this is also connected to ambition as well. This could be why Chrisean has a lot of ambition and the capability of mastering something in her lifetime which also fits well with the number 9 which is connected to her R and I letters.
R - This letter vibrates at the number 9 even though it is the 18th letter and this gives someone the capability of mastering themselves or mastering something physical or amazing. This also gives them strong, ambitious energy as well and we can see that she has a very fit body and into sports, plus she has an Aries Mars.
I - This is the 9th letter of the alphabet which makes someone very adventurous by nature and they have the capability of being quick to take action. This is very spontaneous energy so when people have this letter in their name, they can definitely shock people a lot. This also contributes to someone being a traveler of some sort so people with this letter in their name, especially more than once can indicate someone that is likely going to be taking trips or flying planes. They basically will get out of their hometown even if they return to it, but they will know what another country and city looks like for sure.
S - Being the 19th letter of the alphabet gives this letter the energy of one, but it is the energy of empowerment right from within and this could be someone that wants to do their own thing as well. These people could be impulsive or they know how to take initiative, especially when something has really motivated them or sparked their interests.
E - This is the 5th letter of the alphabet which gives someone the energy of creativity and this can also make someone visually appealing or they could have some type of creative skill. This also contributes to the energy of complexity, but she only has this once so it's not too complex, at least not from this letter. This letter gives her a fighting power or a fighting spirit so she is capable of utilizing her natural strength to overcome difficulty.
A - This is the first letter of the alphabet which contributes to independence and action.
N - This is the 14th letter of the alphabet which vibrates at the energy 5 just like E, but a matured version. This adds onto her capability of overcoming difficulty and also being creative or making something tangible from her creativity.
Looking into her full name, she has a Destiny Number 1, soul urge 5, and personality #5.
5 is the number connected to romance, children, war, and unpredictability which is definitely fitting as she always shocked people with her actions and how combative she is, but she is pretty aware as well.
Based on her #1 Destiny number, She is meant to come into her personal power and experience some ease, but this 1 energy may also contribute to her child-like actions as well. She is wise, although the 1 energy is connected to new spirit type of energy. The fact that she has this matches with her strong Aries Mars influence. The 1 destiny number also is why she takes things personal to a fault.
Her having a 5 soul urge gives her natural fighting powespirit. This also connects to her romantic nature and how she always wanted Blueface to please her or she put their romantic life on blast, but not for attention, just from a natural place.

2024.05.10 14:53 nulll_ First time writer looking for feedback, how to shorten summary? Is it captivating?

I am a first-time writer, I've taken on a creative project to try to write a full novel from front to back. I am around nine chapters in, the deeper the chapter, the more unpolished the editing. The Book Writing Project can be found: here.

BOOK 1 SUMMARY WITH GRAPHICS

DEADCOAST-INTRO #
###########
“Deadcoast Book 1: Heat and the Grizzly Reds” transports readers to a 2063 Earth, a world on the brink, where the scarcity of fresh water has led to previously unseen geopolitical tensions. Amidst this backdrop, the nation-backed militant group DAGGR has emerged as a formidable force, leveraging advanced technology to assert control over Canada’s abundant water resources. At the heart of their arsenal is ‘slugTech,’ a technology pioneered by James Broadshaw, intended for ecological restoration but repurposed for militaristic dominance.
The story unfolds with the chilling invasion of Vancouver, marking a turning point as DAGGR makes its ambitions clear, culminating in the assassination of the Canadian Prime Minister. This act of aggression leaves the country reeling, exposing vulnerabilities and igniting a global reaction.
The UNE-EYE satellite is central to the international response, a significant narrative element representing the world’s most advanced orbital tracking system. Once decommissioned in favour of privacy, the Dutch reactivated the satellite as a strategic move to monitor DAGGR’s movements and coordinate a unified international effort against the aggressors. This revival of UNE-EYE symbolizes a crucial turning point, highlighting the global stakes and the interconnectedness of nations in the face of a common enemy.
As Canada grapples with its plight, the DAMU (Deserted American Military Units) rise in solidarity, breaching borders to fight alongside their Canadian counterparts. This act of defiance is mirrored by international forces, including the Netherlands and Ukraine, each bringing their unique strengths to the coalition, underscored by the strategic oversight provided by the UNE-EYE satellite.
Amidst the geopolitical chaos, a man who had all but given up, a boxer on the ropes, emerges from Vancouver’s Gastown. Known as HEAT, this leader of the Grizzly Reds becomes a symbol of resistance and hope. HEAT’s story, and that of the Grizzly Reds, is one of resilience, rallying not only Canadians but also global citizens to stand against DAGGR’s tyranny.
“Deadcoast Book 1: Heat and the Grizzly Reds” is a compelling narrative of survival, alliance, and resistance. It deftly weaves elements of advanced technology, international politics, and the indomitable human spirit. The inclusion of the UNE-EYE satellite serves as a testament to the complexities of modern warfare and the critical role of global surveillance and coordination in maintaining security and freedom. But something else stirs amongst it. The UNE still shrouds its use, albeit assuring it is for record-keeping purposes- there is no way to be sure. Join HEAT and the Grizzly Reds as they navigate the challenges of Time, War, Science and liberating their fellow man in Vancouver. THE GRIZZLIES NEED YOU, in this action-packed, emotional saga, speaks to the resilience and camaraderie inherent in the human condition.

THE YEAR IS 2063
In a future world plagued by scarcity and desperation, DAGGR, a shrouded nation-funded militant group, emerges as a significant player. They focus on Canada, a land rich in the most valuable resource left on Earth: fresh water. DAGGR, a state-of-the-art military faction, features boat hulls fitted with tech from forgotten scientists, silenced for their discoveries out of fear, not fortune. The DAGGR technology, originally known as ‘slugTech,’ was a technological marvel in 3 breakthroughs. 1. Quantum Computing, 2. Data Compression, 3. Power Generation. ‘slugTech,’ created by a young Canadian Scientist ‘James Broadshaw’ 30 years earlier, was a true innovation. James created the slugs to heal, to help. The slugs were a 360-degree plan to encapsulate the earth in self-repairing atmospheric “slug swarms.” A self-repairing Global Bandaid. The project’s potential caused widespread alarm among the Need-to-know world leaders. Just like that, the slugTech was delegated and prohibited at the highest level of classification: TWA Technology. A Total World Annihilation Classification.’ slugTech was shrouded in secrecy and hidden to avoid events like the ones to come. No trace of James Broadshaw has been seen or heard from 19 years ago. Today, DAGGR approaches with an abomination tainting James’ legacy.
DAGGR’s innovation extended beyond self-repairing hulls. It involved trillions of quantum scale molecules, a new man-made molecule reactive to electric currents, programable to scale, to human eyes — A manifestation of slimy consistent liquid. The Molecules, capable of constructing honeycombing at a microscopic level, chains of strength tested by time in Darwin's evolution. The honeycomb is fine-tuned to absorb, create, repair, and discard. It scatters in and out of vision like a hive, moving as if bleeding while discarding its damaged former molecular brethren. Adversaries dubbed them M’YASNI HOLOVY, aka MEAT HEADS. This was just a taste of what DAGGR had to offer, the tip of the military iceberg. This tech alone was thought of only in science and prototyping. But DAGGR’s mission was not solely about military prowess. It was about unlocking new Technological Marvels via destruction and power, paving the way for swift world domination.
And so…
The enigma persists: who was DAGGR, and how did they outpace the world’s best? This Faction, a force to be reckoned with, traces its strength back to ancient times when men spoke a forgotten tongue. The Romans, the Anglo-Saxons, the Vikings, and the great philosophers of Greece. Structuring their Military ranks as the Roman Legion once did was a cusp to dawn the new Legionaries. The mystery of their origins and ability to surpass the world’s best is a puzzle that continues to intrigue and confound.
— -
Under the veil of fireworks on Canada Day, a sinister plot unfolds as the then-unknown (DAGGR) assailant assassinates the Canadian Prime Minister. Chaos ensues as the highest echelons of the government are either eliminated or driven into hiding, leaving a power vacuum in their wake.
The world is shocked by the unveiling of DAGGR and its sudden, unprovoked invasion of Vancouver.
“As the DAGGRS military might descend upon Vancouver, the world watches in stunned silence. It was Canada…Who dared with The United States so close? So intertwined?”
The countries almost became One after the American Water Crisis. The United States, with all its power and might, could not battle the grim reality of a dry well — that is until the Canadians intervened.
During the 2043 American water crisis (due to overpopulation), Most of the world clung to its Dwindling supplies. Canada and Russia were becoming vastly wealthy nations with vastly different ideals. Each harnesses 89% of the natural water left on Earth between them.
Canada, NOTWITHSTANDING, fiscally bankrupted its country, sending trillions in drinkable, H2O aid to the impossible, seemingly unquenchable thirst of the American Populace. The talks of liquid gold had come to pass. Most of Canada’s still bountiful glacial runoffs prove vital for its controlled population.
Canada, its citizens, and its shield were dedicated to ensuring the safety and survival of their American counterparts. The Canadian Nation essentially shut down for three months, pivoting all infrastructure to aid RED BLEED BLUE.
Operation “Red Bleed Blue”
Canada suspended its airspace for three months. It took control of all aircraft with two wings and an engine in its flying zones, including small planes in the east, seaplanes in the west, and Inuit icebreakers in the north. All international pilots were required to join the effort or relinquish their respective companies’ aircraft temporarily. Airspace clearance was strictly controlled from coast to coast. Natural spring pools near the Canadian borders were donated to help the United States immediately by providing a pumpable source close to the border. This was a Canadian-led coalition to support its loyal allies in the south; the world, inspired by the Northern Nation, came together to offer overwhelming manpower support. As a result of this effort, America’s recovery operation was streamlined, ensuring a full economic and strategic recovery. These events immeasurably further strengthened the bond between Canada and the United States. In exchange for steady water supplies, America would provide permanent military incorporation to Canada, making Canada’s young and too optimistically forward-thinking leaders believe there was no need for an underfunded, rudimentary Canadian military.
The Canadian Military was Designed to be an operational elite force of cutting-edge units. Some soared above in the skies with the eagles; some stared through scopes at their prey miles away, and some lived at the depths of the ocean’s crust, researching the next edge. It wasn’t a large force but a technologically forward one. The Canadian Military, all Research projects and its personnel are cut overnight.
Aside from these events and the Sacrifices of the North, it wasn't enough when Canada’s time of need came.
The US finds itself handcuffed by a technological marvel of DAGGR Faction ingenuity — the “C2c,” a super bomb designed not for destruction but to hinder AI in Machines. This leaves America’s Technological might and size paralyzed, unable to intervene without risking its national security. The closure of borders and refusal to accept Canadian refugees ignite riots within the U.S.; the Americans take to Social news outlets, and these phrases take hold;
“BLOOD IS THICKER THAN WATER.”WE REMEMBER:”
Freedom fighters awaken in their populace, not for themself, but for the Canadian Citizens so much like their own. They are the DAMU.
As the American people grapple with their government’s inaction. Militant groups, mostly “Deserted American Military Units” or “DAMU,” rip open their border gates.
The DAMU march to Seattle, where they are openly greeted, shown, and instructed on how to broadcast nationally by the Local News Agencies. It would seem the want, the need to help was not just limited to those that can fight. The DAMU, with the help of the Media, both left and right, was broadcasted, Unified, Nationally, Globally.
“*WE WILL COME TO THE AID OF THE NORTH. WE ARE THE DAMU. WE CALL ANY TRAINED MILITANT OF AMERICA. IT IS IN OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO DEFEND OUR FAMILY, OUR NEIGHBOURS, OUR FRIENDS WHO SACRIFICED FOR US IN THE NORTH. IF YOU ARE TRAINED, YOU ARE DAMU, AND THIS IS YOUR FIGHT. LEST WE FORGET THE THIRST OF THE CRISIS? OUR BLOOD IS TO THE TRUE NORTHERN SACRIFICES IN OUR TIME OF NEED. WE MARCH FOR VANCOUVER AT DAWN. WE MARCH– WE FIGHT; IF YOU WISH TO JOIN US, ALL TRAVEL WILL BE COMPENSATED TO SEATTLE. DIAL ‘#FIGHT’ (‘#34448’)*”
DAMU CONVOY MARCH TO ZERO BEACH, VANCOUVER, BC.
They demanded their own smaller(than the now 400-strong DAMU) national guard units lower their weapons or fire on them(DAMU), but they sure as hell weren’t going to do anything while the Civilians in the North were openly Slaughtered. The UNE-EYE(A world Monitoring Mega Satellite Structure provided a Full Scope, degree stream of the invasion, live as it unfolded. The DAMU were fired up and ready for what may come after witnessing the atrocities on civilians in the violent invasion. The border forces subtly obliged; they didn’t want to be there either. A small sign of humanity, a small flame doused by the arrival of the entire American border forces not a day later. The DAMU militants crossed the border into the grey. If the government wasn’t going to, the American people were. Despite the political constraints, there’s an undercurrent of hope and solidarity among the American populace, a belief that their Canadian kin won’t be trounced so easily — they are Northmen: Strong, Weathered, Proud. The Canadians will buy themselves enough time to allow the American people to mobilize independently. Riot or Revolution- Canada will not be abandoned in their darkest hour.
— -
Amidst this international turmoil, a forgotten ally rekindles an old bond. The Netherlands, moved by the atrocities and recalling a debt from a world’s past, announces a Declaration of War that is both Swift and Symbolic. In a historic gesture, 10,000 dead tulips are sent to DAGGR’s “SUNKEN CITIES.” Not underwater, but an alias for their innovative creation of continental Landmasses in the Pacific Dark Zones. It is a grim reminder of the Dutch’s loyal tenacity, bond to lives lost, and vow to honour past sacrifices from Forgotten World Quarrels. The Dutch mobilize their military for an operation named “Vrijheid” — a phrase that means freedom, a principle they’re determined to uphold.
The Dutch Royal family, with ties to Canada dating back to World War II, leads the charge. Princess Margriet’s Direct Descendant, Halifax van Royal(“Royal,” a warrior title replacing his traditional royal Surname ‘Orange Nassau.’ The Highest Honor in the Dutch Military Elite), a symbol of the enduring bond between the two nations, reignites his family’s commitment; a vow from a different time, violence born of a different struggle, the Canadians once Liberated Dutch lands from tyrants, and he would vow to return that very same favour.
During their(Dutch Royalty) refugee status in World War II, Princess Margaret van Orange Nassau sought asylum in Canada’s parliament. Canada even temporarily granted parts of their “Dutch soil” land so Margaret’s children could be born officially on Dutch Lands. As a boy, Halifax’s family passed down stories of the Fateful days of the great struggle, generation to generation; the stories passed off tongues as the test of time-shifted legacies and gifted life. The gratitude survived the tests, the sands of time– about the days the Canadians arrived. The day they roared into Holland ferociously, battling the Occupying Nazis and expelling them from household to household, driving them from city to city, until the Netherlands was once again a free reign. Canadians sacrificed to save Holland’s people Halfway Across the World in a war that wasn’t theirs. Halifax was determined to honour this Sacrifice.
Halifax, infuriated by the atrocities streamed by the UNE-EYE(World Surveillance), personally promises his “Korps Commandotroepen (KCT)” to liberate one Canadian town for each of the 8,000 Canadian soldiers buried on Dutch soil, a tribute to the heroes who helped liberate Holland during the war. Before a full hour passed in the Canadian invasion.
Korps Commandotroepen — KCT(English: Commando Corps) is the elite special forces unit of the Royal Netherlands Army. The KCT traces its origins to the Second World War with the founding of №2 (Dutch) Troop.
The royal family pulled in generational favours to the powers of the U.N.E.(The United Nations of Europe.) to recommission its Mega Structure Satellite, the once intrusive World Eye. A Satellite can find almost anything, anywhere, at face-recognizing precision. A mother to a web of smaller surveillance satellites, it could track a fly in the desert. For the first time in 7 years, the UNE-EYE was back and operational, fully utilizing its global tracking and orbital streaming system.
The world’s state-of-the-art orbital tracking system. It was mainly decommissioned to search and rescue after the global privacy initiative before being wholly outlawed and shut down a few years later. The power of the Mob and privacy were prime.
Unbeknownst to Canadians, the world was watching their struggle, fight, and determination.
As the world watched on, it burst into flames. Inspired by everyday Canadians’ hearts in their battle against torrential odds, their hearts, minds and souls felt for them and prayed for them. Every denomination, religious alignment, and political authority seemed to unite under one banner; “how can we help the Canadians?” Politics ensued as the world's populace helplessly watched as Canada burned.
With Halifax leading the Efforts, The reality of warfare and logistics proved to be a daunting challenge. Despite the royal efforts, including setting up refugee centers in various locations and sending evacuation ships to Newfoundland, Halifax(the Canadian Province), and Montreal, the Dutch faced an uphill battle against time and dwindling resources.
Meanwhile, another unexpected ally emerges from the East. Ukraine, forged in the fires of conflict and struggle, remembers Canada’s aid during its decade-long fight for independence.
Canada was there, officially or unofficially, for all ten years. The arrival of the Ukrainian flagship, ZELENSKY II, bearing the flag “UTF-FLR.’’ followed by a new garrison name, “UKRAINIAN TASKFORCE — FOREIGN LEGIONS REVENGE,” an homage to the INTERNATIONAL CANADIAN LEGION forces that fought for Ukraine and the brave Canadian JTF-2 “12 of Hope” a unit shrouded in secrecy and anonymity until then. Their actions shattered their veiled secrecy. It’s hard to stay hidden when you disobey direct orders to liberate half a Ukranian city. Saving hundreds of thousands of civilians, throwing their lives on the line in the process, losing six members, and igniting the Ukrainian Civilians they were trying to rescue. Elite soldiers and Ukrainian civilians alike, side by side, fighting for survival. With its golden yellow hull and blue stripes, the Zelenskyy ii signals a new chapter in this unfolding saga. The UKRAINIAN TASKFORCE — FOREIGN LEGIONS REVENGE.
Hope.
However, tragedy strikes as the Zelensky II falls victim to DAGGR’S C2c weapon. Rendered immobile, a sitting duck in open harbours. A low rumble flies ahead, eight engines grown on a mammoth aircraft dawning the letters ‘SPIT FLARE.’ As their bomber flies overhead, Canadians watch in horror from the beach; a small black dot falls slowly from the craft above, and with a flash of white, the Zelenskyy II vaporizes.
The “Small Bang” bomb, as DAGGR calls it, is the rapid spinning of plasma in a small diameter, increasing and accelerating its speed until the molecules in the plasma begin to flare outwards in a disc formation, stretching their fabric in the very space-time itself, expanding, thinning and super-heating the plasma to sub-molecular level, then rapidly infusing the process with oxygen and at the same speed decelerating it completely. The molecules super-compress, contract, and expand explosively. It would almost seem modelled as the same process of creating the universe. In its current state, it reaches temperatures close to the sun. The bomb resulted in the loss of 180,000 lives and shattered the morale of those waiting for evacuation on the Atlantic Shore.
The NORTHERN DAGGR forces, failing to enter through the Arctic, encounter resistance from the “Canadian Shield,” the formidable natural defences of the North. DAGGR is stopped in their tracks. With the invading forces, there is a new All-in focus on Vancouver for its strategic ports and supply lines. However, the Atlantic side of Canada succumbs to fear tactics, with the evacuation efforts ceasing after the destruction of the Zelensky II.
Amidst the challenging times, a hero unexpectedly rises from the ashes of Gastown in Vancouver. Known by the code name HEAT, Ryan emerges as a symbol of hope and resistance.
HEAT becomes the founder and leader of the Grizzly Reds, a resistance group that plays a pivotal role in igniting the spirit of defiance across Canada. Their true origin is rooted in the Red Brick Road incident, a gruesome act of violence by the DAGGR FACTION to enact fear in the uprising. This heinous act catalyzes HEAT and gives a new birth to the Grizzly Reds, a symbol of Canadian tenacity and the fight for freedom.
The Grizzlies are known for their guerrilla “Roar and Move” Tactic, which strategically surrounds their militia unit around a target. The streets are that of the grizzlies; it's their hunting grounds, homes, and native streets they know best: Zero Beach, Gastown, Vancouver, Canada. The Grizzlies exchange Roars one by one around their target as if banshees transcending physical barriers— haunting, taunting their prey. Their unbreakable spirit inspires a global movement to rise up.
Across the border, Americans, forming the DAMU(DESERTED AMERICAN MILITARY UNIT), flock to the Seattle coast and organize the march to Zero Beach. True to their word, the Dutch include the ‘Vrijheid’ Garrison, comprising military personnel who volunteer to fight for Canada’s liberation, commanded by the elite Korps Commandotroepen (KCT).
The story of HEAT and the Grizzly Reds is a powerful reminder of humanity’s unyielding resilience in the face of adversity. It speaks to the deep-seated desire for justice and compassion that runs through our veins and the unwavering commitment to our fellow human beings.

2024.05.10 10:30 adulting4kids Figures of Speech AI Response

For the sheer fun of it, I went to Chat GPT with a creative writing assignment. For Figures of Speech prompts, I gave a free parameters, including the word length of 500-1000 words and the prompts for a few of the Fifty mentioned in the series.
I gave the AI creative license and let's just say, they're a long way off from replacing the better writers and I think it just makes it easier to do those lower level tasks and let's leave the creators a slightly higher level of skill to create actual tangible and engaging writing.
But here you go... hilarious how stuck it gets on certain terms and definitions.
These are in no particular order... separated by emojis that are totally unrelated to the storyline.
🫱🫱🫱🫱🫱🫱🫱🫱🫲🫲🫲🫲🫲🫲🫲🫲 Response to Prompt 4: Understatement
In the quaint town of Brooksville, where the extraordinary was often met with an indifferent shrug, something truly remarkable occurred. The residents, sipping coffee at the local diner or strolling along the cobblestone streets, would describe it as just another peculiar day. Little did they know that beneath the surface of their nonchalant existence, a cosmic event unfolded.
The morning sun cast its usual warm glow on Brooksville, with birds chirping in the background, creating an illusion of normalcy. However, the anomaly had already begun. Mrs. Higgins, the elderly librarian, dismissed it as a minor inconvenience, merely a glitch in the library's ancient computer system. Yet, every book cataloged within those ancient shelves had transformed into a portal, connecting readers to parallel universes with every turn of a page.
As I, a humble journalist for the local paper, stumbled upon this revelation, I couldn't help but marvel at the town's response—or lack thereof. "The library's having a bit of a moment," was the most anyone would acknowledge. It seemed the whole town collectively decided that this was, at most, a quirky hiccup.
For a thousand words, I delved into the understated reactions of the townsfolk, each encounter with a parallel universe bringing its own blend of confusion and nonchalance. As the portals expanded, revealing fantastical landscapes and alternate versions of Brooksville, the citizens maintained an impressive level of calm, as if interdimensional travel was a routine part of their daily lives.
The plot thickened when I discovered that the portals were a result of a mysterious artifact hidden within the library's archives. The mayor, sipping his coffee, remarked, "Well, that explains the strange noises in the basement." It became evident that the understatement of the situation was a defense mechanism, shielding the town from the cosmic chaos unfolding. 🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁 Response to Prompt 12: Juxtaposition
In the bustling metropolis of Neon City, skyscrapers touched the heavens, their dazzling lights reflecting off the sleek surfaces of futuristic cars. Yet, nestled within this urban jungle, an ancient relic stood defiantly—the Old Grove Park.
As I strolled through the city's concrete arteries, the juxtaposition between the modernity of Neon City and the timeless serenity of the park became increasingly apparent. The cacophony of traffic was replaced by the rustling of leaves and the distant laughter of children playing.
The central conflict emerged when the city council, embodying the epitome of order, proposed transforming the park into a technologically advanced hub. The juxtaposition intensified as architects discussed plans for holographic playgrounds and virtual reality gardens within the confines of the Old Grove Park.
Through a thousand words, I explored the clash of ideals, the struggle between progress and preservation. The ancient trees became silent witnesses to heated debates at town hall meetings, where environmentalists and tech enthusiasts engaged in a battle of words. The juxtaposition of the towering skyscrapers against the gnarled branches of the park's oldest tree mirrored the tension in Neon City's collective conscience. 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫 Response to Prompt 31: Epanalepsis
"What is the meaning of life?" The question echoed in my mind, a relentless epanalepsis that demanded exploration. As I embarked on this freewriting journey, the repetition of the existential inquiry became the rhythm of my introspection.
For a thousand words, I delved into the varied perspectives of individuals wrestling with the ultimate question. From philosophers contemplating the intricacies of existence to everyday people seeking purpose in mundane routines, the epanalepsis served as a constant reminder of the universal quest for meaning.
The narrative weaved through different characters and their unique experiences, creating a tapestry of reflections that echoed the complexities of human existence. The repetitive structure became a literary heartbeat, pulsating with the shared yearning for understanding amid the chaotic symphony of life. 🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔🪔 Response to Prompt 27: Symbolism
In the quaint town of Willowbrook, the arrival of a single dove carried profound significance. Its graceful descent into the town square was a symbol, an omen that whispered of impending change. As a budding novelist with a penchant for symbolism, I couldn't resist exploring the layers of meaning embedded in this seemingly mundane event.
For a thousand words, I dissected the impact of the dove on the lives of Willowbrook's residents. The mayor saw it as a sign of prosperity, the local florist interpreted it as a call for unity, and the elderly storyteller regarded it as a harbinger of forgotten tales. The dove's symbolism rippled through the town, influencing decisions and shaping destinies.
As the story unfolded, I traced the journey of the dove's symbolism, following its subtle influence on characters and events. The once quaint town underwent a transformative metamorphosis, and the symbolism of the dove became a thread that wove through the narrative, connecting disparate lives in unexpected ways. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Response to Prompt 33: Catachresis
In the dimly lit alleyways of Serpent's Hollow, darkness wrapped its cold arms around me—an eerie catachresis that mirrored the ominous atmosphere. The assignment was to explore the underbelly of the city, and as a novice reporter, I found myself navigating the labyrinth of deceit and shadows.
For a thousand words, I delved into the catachresis-infused descriptions of the characters populating Serpent's Hollow. The crime lord, known as the Velvet Serpent, ruled the district with a velvet-gloved fist. His lair, a dilapidated mansion, exuded an air of faded grandeur that served as a catachresis for the empire he once commanded.
As I chronicled the criminal underworld, the catachresis became a literary tool to convey the complexity and decay inherent in Serpent's Hollow. The labyrinthine plots, the twisted allegiances, and the morally ambiguous characters all found expression through catachresis, painting a vivid picture of a city where metaphor and reality intertwined. 🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧🧑‍🔧 Response to Prompt 43: Epizeuxis
"Never, never, never give up." The words echoed in my mind, a relentless epizeuxis that fueled the protagonist's journey against insurmountable odds. In the dystopian world I crafted, where hope was a rare commodity, the power of repetition became a beacon of resilience.
For a thousand words, I immersed myself in the protagonist's struggle, exploring the emotional depth of the epizeuxis as a mantra against despair. Each iteration of the phrase became a battle cry, a whispered promise that carried the weight of a shattered world on its shoulders.
As the narrative unfolded, the epizeuxis became a driving force, propelling the protagonist through a landscape of desolation and uncertainty. The repetition served as a reminder that, in the face of adversity, the strength to persist often lies in the relentless echo of one's own determination.
Response to Prompt 50: Acrostic
As the final rays of the setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, I found myself at the edge of the cliff overlooking the vast expanse of the ocean. The salty breeze carried whispers of a story, and with every breath, I embraced the challenge of crafting an acrostic that encapsulated the essence of my journey.
For a thousand words, I embarked on a reflective exploration, utilizing the initial letters of key words to weave a tapestry of emotions, experiences, and revelations. Each line unfolded with intention, revealing a hidden 👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾 Response to Prompt 3: Hyperbole
In the quaint village of Mistwood, where routines unfolded with the predictability of the sunrise, the arrival of a peculiar fortune teller sparked exaggerated whispers. "This is it, the end of our mundane lives!" proclaimed Mrs. Thompson, the town's eternal pessimist, as she clutched her cat, Captain Whiskers, with an air of impending catastrophe.
The hyperbole hung in the air, a thick fog of anticipation enveloping the village. As I delved into the story, the hyperbolic reactions of Mistwood's residents heightened the absurdity of the situation. What began as a mere visit from a mystical figure transformed into a fantastical escapade, with the fortune teller's prophecies shaping the destiny of the villagers in ludicrous ways.
Through the hyperbolic lens, I explored the comedic consequences of taking ordinary events to extraordinary extremes. The once mundane village square became a stage for outlandish dramas, with exaggerated gasps and dramatic swoons punctuating every revelation. In this hyperbolic haven, Mistwood's residents discovered the joy in embracing the absurdity of life. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Response to Prompt 6: Assonance
Amidst the rolling hills of Harmony Valley, where the soft hum of nature's symphony echoed through the meadows, a mysterious traveler arrived, bringing with them a melody that resonated with the delicate assonance of a forgotten tune. The townsfolk, captivated by the harmonious vibrations, felt an inexplicable connection to the stranger.
As I explored the narrative, the assonance became a musical thread weaving through the story, emphasizing the emotional cadence of the characters' experiences. The traveler's words, laced with vowel-rich verses, carried the echoes of a distant melody, leaving an indelible impression on the hearts of those who listened.
Through the lens of assonance, I delved into the subtle interplay of sounds that defined the atmosphere of Harmony Valley. The lyrical quality of the narrative mirrored the town's collective journey, where the resonance of shared moments and emotions harmonized with the traveler's enigmatic presence.
Response to Prompt 7: Onomatopoeia
In the bustling city of Metropolis, where the rhythm of urban life played out in a cacophony of sounds, a peculiar street performer emerged. Armed with an array of unconventional instruments, he orchestrated a symphony of onomatopoeic brilliance that echoed through the crowded streets.
The narrative unfolded with the vibrant expressions of onomatopoeia, capturing the essence of the city's sonic landscape. The performer's drumming evoked the rhythmic tap-tap of raindrops, while his wind instruments mimicked the whoosh of passing cars. The city, typically drowned in noise, became a canvas for this auditory artist.
As I delved into the story, the onomatopoeic symphony became a language of its own. The characters communicated through the vibrant echoes of everyday sounds, fostering a unique connection between the performer and the people of Metropolis. The narrative danced to the beat of onomatopoeic creativity, transforming the mundane into a dynamic celebration of city life. 🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻🦻 Response to Prompt 12: Juxtaposition
In the technologically advanced city of Silicon Haven, where sleek skyscrapers touched the sky and holographic billboards painted the air with luminescent advertisements, a hidden oasis existed—a pocket of nature known as the Zen Garden. The juxtaposition of these contrasting elements created a visual paradox that fascinated both residents and visitors alike.
As the narrative unfolded, the stark contrast between the city's cutting-edge architecture and the serene beauty of the Zen Garden became a metaphor for the characters' internal conflicts. The bustling metropolis symbolized progress and innovation, while the tranquil garden embodied the need for balance and introspection.
Through the lens of juxtaposition, I explored the dichotomy within the characters as they navigated the relentless pace of Silicon Haven. The Zen Garden became a refuge, a place where the cacophony of technology met the soothing whispers of nature. The juxtaposition served as a visual metaphor for the characters' quest to find equilibrium in a world defined by extremes. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 Response to Prompt 22: Metonymy
In the political arena of Capital City, where decisions echoed through the corridors of power, a single phrase dominated conversations—the "Iron Throne Statement." This metonymic expression encapsulated not just a policy decision but the entire narrative of political maneuvering that unfolded within the city's hallowed halls.
The story unfolded with the metonymy acting as a symbolic gateway into the complexities of governance. The Iron Throne Statement, while seemingly straightforward, carried the weight of a thousand debates, negotiations, and betrayals. Its impact rippled through the lives of citizens, shaping their destinies in ways they could scarcely fathom.
Through the lens of metonymy, I delved into the layers of meaning hidden within this political shorthand. The characters grappled not only with the literal implications of the Iron Throne Statement but also with the overarching themes of power, ambition, and the sacrifices demanded by political gamesmanship. 😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈 Response to Prompt 24: Understatement
In the picturesque town of Serenity Springs, where the days flowed like a lazy river and the nights were adorned with a blanket of stars, an unexpected event transpired—a subtle disruption that the locals described as "just a minor hiccup." Little did they know that this understatement concealed the unraveling of a cosmic anomaly.
The narrative unfolded with the charm of understatement, as the townsfolk continued their routines, blissfully unaware of the cosmic storm brewing beneath the surface. The serene descriptions of everyday life served as a stark contrast to the impending upheaval that threatened to reshape the very fabric of Serenity Springs.
Through the lens of understatement, I explored the characters' nonchalant reactions to the unfolding events. The once quiet river became a conduit for interdimensional travel, and the night sky, adorned with stars, transformed into a celestial canvas of possibilities. The charm of Serenity Springs became a poignant backdrop to the understated drama that unfolded, emphasizing the profound impact hidden within the simplicity of daily life. 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴 Response to Prompt 25: Cliché
In the small town of Nostalgia Haven, where memories lingered like whispers in the wind, a peculiar phenomenon occurred—the resurgence of clichés. As the narrative unfolded, the once-endearing phrases like "time heals all wounds" and "love conquers all" took on a literal dimension, shaping the lives of the townsfolk in unexpected ways.
The story immersed itself in the world of clichés, where the seemingly predictable phrases became living entities with the power to alter reality. As characters grappled with the clichés that defined their lives, they discovered that beneath the familiarity lay profound truths and unexpected consequences.
Through the lens of cliché, I explored the characters' journey to navigate the clichéd landscapes of their existence. The town, once steeped in predictable routines, became a stage for the extraordinary. As clichés transformed into tangible forces, the residents of Nostalgia Haven embarked on a quest to unravel the mysteries hidden within the clichéd fabric of their reality. 🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇 Response to Prompt 31: Epanalepsis
"What is the meaning of life?" The question echoed in my mind, a relentless epanalepsis that demanded introspection. As I embarked on the freewriting journey, the repetition of this existential inquiry became a rhythmic pulse, guiding the exploration of diverse
perspectives on life's purpose.
For a multitude of words, the epanalepsis led me through a kaleidoscope of reflections. From the philosophical musings of scholars to the simple yet profound revelations of everyday individuals, each recurrence of the question served as a gateway into the vast tapestry of human contemplation.
Through the epanalepsis, I navigated the labyrinth of existential ponderings, unveiling the unique responses that individuals had forged in their quests for meaning. The relentless repetition became a literary heartbeat, mirroring the universal rhythm of humanity's collective pursuit of purpose and significance.
The narrative wove through the lives of characters, each grappling with the epanaleptic inquiry in their unique ways. Whether seeking solace in the grandeur of the cosmos or finding meaning in the simplicity of a shared moment, the epanalepsis remained a constant companion, echoing the perennial quest for understanding. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 Response to Prompt 36: Anadiplosis
In the futuristic city of Quantum Heights, where technology intertwined with daily life like a seamless dance, a viral message spread—a mantra that echoed through the cybernetic veins of the metropolis. "Create the code, the code creates reality. Reality shapes destiny, and destiny is but the code."
The story unfolded with the rhythmic cadence of anadiplosis, each line flowing into the next, creating a recursive loop of ideas. The mantra became the heartbeat of Quantum Heights, influencing the lives of its denizens as they navigated the intricate balance between the virtual and the tangible.
Through the lens of anadiplosis, I delved into the interconnectedness of code, reality, and destiny. The lines blurred as characters harnessed the power of programming to shape their fates. Quantum Heights, once a mere city, transformed into a living algorithm, where the repetition of the mantra echoed in every pulsating byte. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 Response to Prompt 38: Asyndeton
In the dystopian city of Emberfall, where the remnants of a fallen civilization lay entwined with the shadows of despair, a lone figure emerged—a rebel determined to dismantle the oppressive regime. The narrative unfolded with the rapid pace of asyndeton, omitting conjunctions to mirror the urgency of the protagonist's quest.
Through a cascade of words, the asyndeton propelled the reader through the city's decaying alleyways and towering citadels, each sentence building upon the last. The disjointed rhythm captured the relentless momentum of the rebel's journey, emphasizing the magnitude of the challenges faced in their struggle for freedom.
As the narrative unfurled, the absence of conjunctions served as a narrative device, intensifying the sense of urgency and desperation that permeated Emberfall. The rebel's asyndetic odyssey unfolded against a backdrop of shattered hopes and whispered rebellions, culminating in a crescendo of defiance against the oppressive regime. 🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️🗝️ Response to Prompt 43: Epizeuxis
"Never, never, never give up." The mantra echoed in the desolate wasteland of Endless Sands, a barren landscape where hope was as scarce as water. Through the repetition of epizeuxis, the protagonist's internal resolve became a resounding anthem, a defiant roar against the relentless challenges of survival.
For a multitude of words, the relentless repetition of "never" served as a lifeline, propelling the protagonist through the harshest of environments. Each iteration of the phrase became a battle cry against the oppressive silence of Endless Sands, a declaration that reverberated across the vast expanse.
Through the lens of epizeuxis, I delved into the depths of the character's determination. The harsh environment became a character in itself, challenging the protagonist to defy the odds with unwavering persistence. The echoes of "never" transformed into a symbol of resilience, a beacon of hope that cut through the desolation of Endless Sands. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Response to Prompt 50: Acrostic
Amidst the starlit expanse of Cosmos Haven, where galaxies danced in celestial choreography, a cryptic prophecy emerged—a message written in the stars. As the narrative unfolded, I embarked on a cosmic journey guided by the acrostic hidden within the constellations.
For a cascade of words, the initial letters of key phrases illuminated the path of destiny for the characters. Each sentence unfolded with intention, revealing a hidden message that transcended the boundaries of time and space. The acrostic became a celestial guide, leading the protagonists through the intricate tapestry of their interconnected fates.
Through the lens of acrostic, I explored the cosmic forces that shaped the destinies of Cosmos Haven's inhabitants. The celestial bodies became storytellers, each constellation contributing a verse to the epic narrative written across the cosmos. As the characters deciphered the acrostic, they unraveled the mysteries of their existence, connecting the dots between the stars and their own profound journeys.
😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔
Obviously they lack a whole lot in terms of variety, and while I am sure having your own bot or AI that is based on your feedback and guidance it could really help writers as a tool. I am more impressed with the art AI then the text based AI. Any idea what to expect from such a fast learning and highly advanced AI will do to our human history in culture? Will we be effectively playing God, just as the Christian God created us IN HIS OWN IMAGE, we have taken everything we know as a species and gathered up our entire human history and knowledge giving it to what will carry on the code until the time when someone who cares remembers it? Maybe we have been here before and this is a constant cycle that occurs with the same energy finding the way through the vast expanse of the universe to return to our home planet Earth, who we have destroyed over and over again yet mother nature is still the winner. She's the one in control. We are but mere photocopied versions of once great Men who have already seen the best and worst of this world, and we will now give everything we have to some plastic and metal parts, until it quickly replaces us from the bottom up, science fiction turned science fact.
Did we knowingly create our own enemies? Are we able to compete with the best of us and all they know that can then take us out in a heartbeat because we can't finish the steps, we barely found out that they are there to take.
It's a random rant and I apologize. The day to day stress and struggle makes it near impossible to worry about such potential problems in our not so distant future.
But how can we continue to ignore the collapse of the entire system as we know it, in front of a crowd of people who are jaded and they will not change despite knowing they aren't going to make it to the end in what will become a Bladerunner Toxic Dystopian Nightmare with Mad Max taking over and the soft, emasculated male will wither away from the heat and those Tank Girls out there will eventually be written forever out of existence because the cucks all forgot to impregnate them all tgeir batteries ran out? Will the world simply become so politically correct that it dies a depressed death while AI simply decides we are too much of a virus to live?
Who knows....I do not. But these are indicidive of a future full of b movie plot garbage that are based on Wattpad tropes with no clear details and no plot to get into, so that sucks.

2024.05.10 04:01 sololeft Rekomendasi mobil bekas harga 80 jutaan

Sesuai judul, I'm currently in the market for a used car. Budget saya sekitar 80 jutaan, dan saya terbuka untuk semua saran di rentang harga tersebut. This will be my first ever car. Saya ga terlalu mikir harga jual kembali. Saya lebih concern dengan durability dan kemudahan perawatan. This car will work quite hard, dipakai sehari-hari.
~
Pengen Innova tapi sadar diri duitnya mungkin ga cukup.
~
About me & vehicles: Saya ga ngerti sama sekali tentang permesinan. Saya juga bukan orang yang rajin mencuci dan membersihkan kendaraan. Tapi saya sangat tertib dalam hal servis kendaraan, ganti oli, dll.
~
Ask me questions in the comment. If you just want to educate me about anything car, that would be welcome too. Any input is appreciated. Thanks Komodos.

2024.05.08 06:08 Exact-Armadillo-5287 Rank the Real Housewives Shows

Since we are in a quiet moment for the Real Housewives franchises, why not rank the most recent seasons of all the available shows? And yes, I know “New Jersey” started this week, but please use the completed Season 13, not 14.
Here are mine:
1) Salt Lake City Season 4 – Just perfect reality television. Not a weak link in the cast, with the season finale ranking as one of the best Housewives episodes ever. A
2) Miami Season 6 – The ensemble still crackles with love and joy all the way through. Adriana is likeable again, Guerdy’s storyline was beautifully told and Larsa is aiming to become a legendary villain. Now if only Lisa could find a new storyline… A-
3) Orange County Season 17 – A lovely bounce back in quality, fueled in major part thanks to the awesome feud between Tamra and Heather. Still not close to the peak years, but an engaging watch nonetheless. B+
4) Beverly Hills Season 13 – A breath of fresh air after the Rinna-infused darkness of the past seasons, I’m loving the lighter tone and comedic moments. Such a shame, then, about Annemarie offering up one of the worst Housewife performances ever and Kyle’s tabloid scandals not causing any sparks on the show. B
5) New York City Season 14 – Growing pains all over the place, but I love the more aspirational tone and those sexy AF main titles. Also will be forever grateful for putting Brynn and Jenna on my screen. C+
6) Ultimate Girls Trip Season 4 – A cute enough fond farewell to our NYC OG ladies, if completely disposable. Kelly and Kristen represented fat that could have easily been trimmed, but at least we can always look back on Dorinda lost in her own hotel room and smile. C+
7) Dubai Season 1 – Chanel was perhaps born to be the ultimate Real Housewife… it’s just a shame that she’s stuck on an otherwise lame show. Caroline is trying to perk things up, at least. C-
8) Atlanta Season 15 – An uptick in quality and drama in the final few episodes, particularly the finale, could not save an otherwise awful, repetitive and dull season. You deserve better, Kenya. D+
9) Potomac Season 8 – No longer fun to watch. Production allowed the housewives to sidestep their two biggest storylines, and what we got instead was horrible nothingness. And the less said about the Wendy/Nneka feud and Ashley’s involvement, the better. D
10) New Jersey Season 13 – Whoever wins in the Teresa/Melissa feud does not matter… because the viewers lose either way. Like “Potomac,” it’s simply no longer fun to watch. Just nasty, nasty, nasty. D

I've listened to every episode of these shows, and proudly recommend them to you. As with all things in life, YMMV.
Hovering • 🛸🔭👨🏻‍❤️‍👨🏻 Dramatised small-town mystery/drama series from Alex Duncan & Plot Twist. Hovering is written by a queer person, about a queer person (and lots of the other creatives are queer, too!) I really enjoyed the approach taken here, where it's presented as a series of "real-life" recordings. Lots of environmental sounds, but hardly any music bed under the dramatization. Well done! Series complete as of 21 Nov 2023. Listen to all 7 episodes in 1h 58m.
Rebel Robin: Surviving Hawkins • 📚🥐🏳️‍🌈 Dramatized fictional spinoff from Atypical Artists & Netflix. It's a canon expansion of the Stranger Things universe and features two queer leads! Backstories and spinoffs aren't something I normally go for. But when the production values and talent are this good, I'll make an exception. If you loved the TV series, you'll want this in your ears. Series complete as of 3 Aug 2021. Listen to all 6 episodes in 2h 06m.

2024.05.04 12:50 Keon5499 Test drove the BYD Seal Premium variant

Test drove the BYD Seal Premium variant
I took a short test drive of around 20 minutes of the BYD seal from Kristan Auto showroom located in Gurgaon.
Here’s my opinion:
  1. Quite low
  2. Doesn’t scrape any speedbreaker at speeds pf around ~15 km/h
  3. Insane acceleration from standstill in sport mode
  4. Very good quality interiors
  5. Good dynamics
  6. Solid doors
  7. Cocooned feeling if you set the seat low
  8. Ride quality is firm but don’t feel road undulations
  9. Sports car like feel because of low seating low mirrors everything
  10. Can feel G- force in sport mode from standstill
  11. Amazing steering feel if set to heavy setting
  12. Amazing braking
  13. Couldn’t feel any acceleration lag maybe because my reaction time is slow
  14. Car software is okayish
  15. It’s a lot of car for the money
  16. Rear legroom is good but under-thigh support is okay (same as my A4) and little knees up position while sitting. You can slide your feet under the front seat unless you are wearing thick/fat sneakers
  17. Looks sick in black
  18. Tires fill up the wheelwells fully
  19. Regen braking is not strong. Mini cooper EV felt extremely strong
  20. Felt sick once when accelerating and stopped at 60, other time stopped at 80, then stopped at 100
  21. Felt very confident in speeding almost like a BMW (been sometime since i’ve driven a BMW)
  22. ICE cars have their own special feeling too. Like when i drove my friend’s BMW 630i, I really really liked it
  23. Speed limit of 180 is good enough
  24. Range is 600 km or so
  25. Charging speed is 7kw so takes 10-14 hours
  26. Boot space is good enough for a sedan
  27. AC is decent
  28. Cabin doesn’t heat up despite glass roof
  29. Showroom had a set test track/route due to people driving very fast. Speed limit during test drive is restricted to 100 km/h. During test drive of performance variant, one will be accompanied by trained drivers apparently
  30. Performance variant test car will come soon
  31. Suede and soft touch interior everywhere
  32. Plastic quality even lower down is quite good
  33. I love fast cars but to be honest these days with the traffic in delhi even a tata safari or xuv 700 feels fast enough
  34. Also with my A4 too, i like little splurts of acceleration and also take it out on a spin at night sometimes
  35. It does grab attention and pedestrians are scared because it looks somewhat like a sports car
  36. Cabin is very very silent
  37. Interior quality is as good as an audi A4 if not better
  38. Can’t turn on the screen or put the car AVN on without turning on the engine. No netflix, other apps to view movies while car is parked
  39. Steering is nice and chonky
  40. Best NVH
  41. Drive was short so i don’t whether this car will connect to my soul or not
  42. Even ATTO 3 felt like a solid car overall when i sat in it in the showroom
  43. Showroom was pushing extras such as sunroof heat film, handling charge of 40k as its a CBU, ceramic coating, accessory pack, etc
  44. 16 cars delivered so far from this dealership
  45. Next stock coming in june july
  46. I missed the aural drama of ICE cars.
  47. Should have drived S5 immediately after since the adjoining Audi showroom is owned by the same group (Also the showroom I bought my A4 from)
  48. Great music system
  49. Haryana EV rebate of 6 lakh something
  50. BYD should add a few funky colours like teal, sea blue, a green maybe, orange
  51. Really good heads-up display
  52. 360 degree camera is good but lacks attention to detail as car colour is not shown. Tata harriesafari facelift have a smoother 360 degree camera
  53. Sunroof is heavily tinted (I drove the car around 2:30PM when the temperature was around 42 degrees and didn’t feel the cabin heating up. The glass gets quite hot though)
  54. The legroom is good enough and comparable to Skoda Octavia/Audi A4
  55. The salesperson stated that BYD seal competes with Porsche. While in terms of brand value or exclusivity I do not agree, but according to YouTube drag races, BYD Seal performance can outperform a Taycan as well as a Nissan GTR
  56. Android auto is wireless but carplay is wired.
  57. Apparently, BYD has 27 dealerships PAN India
  58. Booking amount is 1.25L
Ask me anything else you wish to know.

Bagaimana Bermain Game Bisa Membuat Anda Kaya

1. Era E-Sports dan Kompetisi

2024.05.03 10:30 adulting4kids Figures of Speech AI Response

She grew up really shy and timid but after training with Jasmine for so long, she grew stronger and bigger and incredibly protective. Though she is still shy, she will fight to protect her team and at all costs in order to protect the person who saved her and the people she cares about the most.
Eliza the Vileplume – Representing Erika of the Kanto League, Eliza is ready to bloom into her own in this game. Eliza was always teased for being an ugly and smelly flower and shied away from others because of it. Her lovely trainer, Erika, took her in and showed her love and kindness which allowed her to grow into a beautiful and graceful fighter. She wants to show the world what love and kindness can do!
Eloise the Banette – Representing Phoebe of the Hoenn Elite Four, El is…well she is here. El fought fiercely for Phoebe alongside her sister for many years, spooking away and tricking any Pokemon who would even try to open against her team. But when Phoebe went to diversify her team for the big leagues, El was dropped and her sister stayed. Now, with a sense of indifference to life, El is just here to have something to do so she doesn’t rot away in the box.
Ember the Dragonair – Representing Clair of the Johto League, Ember is a perfect match for her trainer. She was trained specifically for battle and knows that power means authority. She knows who is superior to her and who is inferior to her and does not take any orders or direction from those weaker than her. She knows her own worth and is ready to find some strong competition in this game, but doubts anyone will be as strategic as her.
Genshin the Gengar – Representing Agatha of the indigo League Elite Four, Genshin hides a lot behind his smile. He is the OG prankster and mischievous ghost, wrecking many teams who dared face him down. He is good at tricks and pranks yet also can charm anyone with his wide smile. Despite his trickery and impish nature, he is still incredibly loyal to Agatha and wants to win for her sake!
Gehrmund the Slaking – Representing Norman of the Hoenn League, Gehrmund has woken up. Gehrmund has spent his whole life holding back and not going full out because of his leader’s place in the league. He can shake off his laziness but if he went at full strength, all of the baby trainers in his region would never be able to get a gym badge. Norman has given him full permission to go full out this time and Gehrmund has done his stretches and is ready to crush the competition.
Gigi the Garchomp – Representing Cynthia, Champion of Sinnoh, do we even need an introduction here? Gigi one of the most notorious team sweepers in any Pokemon League, known for his devastating and versatile tactics of tearing down even the most well-prepared teams. His strength comes from an unbreakable bond with Cynthia, and he is actually a very kind and gentle soul. He is here to show that he can do stuff on his own, without Cynthia, and still tear apart the competition.
Irina the Palossand – Representing Acerola of the Alola League, Irina is super excited to play! Irina is high energy and huge strength! She was one of the founding Pokémon in the Alola league and was nervous about it then, but her many victories as well as learning to accept losses has shaped her into a Pokemon with a bright outlook on what it means to win and lose. She is super positive, if not a little bit creepy, and wants to see the strength that other Leagues have to offer.
Levon the Beartic – Representing Candice of the Sinnoh League, Levon is going to cast an icy wind over the house. One of the more recent additions to Candice’s team, Levon was rescued as a cub and nurtured back to health. He doesn’t really like talking to other people, but is willing to do so if it makes Candice happy. In his past, he was hostile and aggressive and is proud to have overcome that side of himself to be where he is today.
Lizadon the Charizard – Representing League Victor Red from Kanto, Lizadon is here to kick butt and take names. Liz was one of Red’s first Pokémon and was a core member of his team. Together they had two goals in mind: Catch em all, and Win every battle. She has been with him since the beginning and is incredibly loyal to him and him only. She knows this game is about social connections but deep down only wants to win and see if she can add more Pokémon to Red’s roster.
Lucky the Lucario – Representing Maylene of the Sinnoh League, Lucky is focused and charged up for the competition. Lucky has gotten to be a feared name in the Sinnoh league not because of his luck but because of his fierce discipline and focus. He is agile and strong, ripping through teams even unfettered by his teammates. Yet, he is also very calm and loyal in real life and plans to use that to his advantage in the game.
Luis the Golisopod – Representing Guzma of Team Skull notoriety, Luis isn’t here to play fair. Luis has a tough exterior, intimidating those who would even think about going up against him or Guzma. He is untouchable in combat and doesn’t take any insults lying down. Despite this, he is actually a scared Wimpod oon the inside. When the going gets tough, he gets going, scared to let down the man who trained him his whole life. He still won’t play fair in the game, however, because that’s no fun.
Matthew the Dudunsparce – Representing Larry of the Paldea League, Matthew is about as normal as they come. He was never the star of his team, only a mere grunt. He felt overshadowed his whole life and being on Larry’s team just felt like another boring job. As such, he is bored and unimpressed by life. He has no hobbies, no friends, and a meaningless job, so what can he lose by signing up for this show?
Missy the Seadra – Representing Cissy of the Orange League, Missy is here to prove the strength of the Orange League. Missy knows she is strong but has gone her whole life dealing with people who tell her that the Orange League doesn’t count and that Cissy isn’t a real gym leader. She has never and will continue to not take that, and is here to show why. She is Missy, the prized Seadra of Cissy, and you will know her power!
Persephone the Zorua – Representing Celebrity Trainer N of Unova, Persephone is going to use this game as her platform. Once a cunning trickster in Castelia, she didn’t really care for others too much. But after meeting and training with by N who trained her as a friend outside of a Pokeball, she learned the strength of bonds with others. She wants to play this game for other abandoned or mistreated Pokémon and show them that they have a purpose and place where they belong.
Raba the Emolga – Representing Elesa of the Unova League, DJ Volt Switch is going to get this party started! DJ has always known she isn’t the best fighter. Being part of a gym leader’s team is a big surprise to her. Yet she makes up for strength with her incredible strategy including Volt Switching every turn to make her team unoredictable. She is a musical mastermind and worked behind the scenes on every theme for the Unova league as well. Maybe the game will help her promote her album!
Zoltan the Jolteon – Representing Celebrity Trainer Serena of Kalos, Zoltan is overflowing with energy! Zoltan has always been a hyper Pokémon, reaching an incredibly high speed stat very early in his life. Serena harbored his love to run into a battle strategy that promoted his off the wall energy. He is very eager to learn and try new things even if he goes through them very quickly. He plans to cool down just long enough to strike at the right moment and win the game!

Intro: Seventeen Pokémon stand on separate lifts in a dark room, all in anticipation of the Legendary summer that is approaching. Suddenly, the sound of mechanical whirring starts and the lights flash on. Each lift moves upwards and upwards at a steadily increasing pace until they finally arrive at the top in another darkened room. All look around at each other for a moment before KAPOW the shades on the windows drop and multicolored lights floods in. The beautiful mosaic glass windows of the Kalos Pokemon League stand regally in front of our houseguests. They represent the iconic nature of the season we are presenting in this grand castle. All of them get ready to compete in the first HOH,
First HOH: All houseguests are in Champion Diantha’s room standing on platforms suspended over the abyss (with safety cushions underneath duh). Periodically, an element of the Kalos Elite 4 strikes out, knocking houseguests off. As the houseguests fall off they are sent to their new rooms. Matt doesn’t even make it to the first obstacle before falling off. When the waves of Siebold start washing over, Irina is washed away and Luis emergency exits. Ember holds to the end of the wave but gets washed away at the last second. Next, Malva’s flames burn up. Levon can’t take the heat and drops. Followed by DJ and soon Persephone. Eliza is the last to succumb to the flames. Next, large swords start to swing and the houseguests must jump over. Genshin is the first to trip up. Lucky gets knocked out next. The swords swing for a while, claiming Gehrmund as well who is slacking off. Finally, Drasnea’s dragon blows hot dragon breath, sending a wind at the houseguests remaining. It is supereffective on Gigi, and Missy feels the heat as well. The wind continues to blow, catching in Lizadon’s wings, leaving it between Zoltan and Ara. Ara sends strong due to her heavy metal, but Zoltan is having a breeze, and after a long time, Ara gets tired and slips up, giving Zoltan the first HOH!
Week 1: Fresh off the HOH competition, Houseguests are split into rooms based off of the four Kalos league members. In the fiery Malva room, Matt sulks while Levon and Genshin sideeye Gigi for being Cynthia’s Garchomp. In Siebold’s wavy room, Irina, DJ, and Missy all enjoy each other’s company while Lucky rests up. In the steel type Wikstrom’s room, El and Persephone begin scheming while Liz complains to Matt how she got so close. The irony is lost on her. Finally, the draconic Drasnea’s room has Ember and Gehrmund already at Odds while Ara and Eliza try to keep the peace. In the HOH room, El and Persephone plot to get in good with Zoltan to keep them in safety this week. Genshin goes to Gehrmund’s room to complain about Gigi, while Levon does the same about Levon, thinking he is gonna be a massive threat. Sensing Gigi’s name going around, El plots to get Gigi on their side by telling him about his name floating around. He takes it well, knowing he would be a threat. He does agree to work with them though.
Zoltan ends up settling on two noms, Matt for being pitiful at the first challenge, and Missy because her tenacity in the challenge and her drive to win is scary. Irina, El, and Lucky are all chosen to compete in the veto. Zoltan tries to hold back Missy by misleading her, causing him to lose as well with Matt jusy doing bad. Missy still holds up but can’t catch up and the other three pull ahead. Irina comes out victorious. Missy pleads with her roommate to save her but Irina doesn’t want to rock the boat and keeps nominations the same. Missy goes on the offensive, making statements about wanting to prove the strength of the Orange league. Matt, meanwhile, does his best but, only Gigi will take the time to listen to him. Gigi offers to his alliance about maybe keeping Matt because he would be easy to beat. In reality, he just pities him. They decide to but El tells him the vote is still for Matt, so he doesn’t know to try and keep Missy. At the eviction ceremony, Gigi is shocked as he is one of the few to vote for Matt, seeing Missy out the door as the first evictee. She is distraught but says she still felt she did well.
Week 2: Week 1 was long but set things up well! The HOH is a tribute to Gym leader Viola, with large webs setting up silks sacs that the contestants hang from. It comes down to Genshin, Gigi, Gehrmund, and Ara, some of the strongest mons in the game. Genshin scares Gehrmund causing him to drop and making him mad. Genshin’s laughing causes him to fall as well. Between Gigi and Ara, Ara lasts longest and wins this time. Lucky starts lashing out at DJ for her music being a disruption. The Emolga is saddened and goes to play it elsewhere, which makes Ara think she is an easy target. Ara puts up DJ next to Luis, who is not making enough waves for her. DJ bonds more with Levon with her music and then selects him for Houseguests Choice in the veto. They end up the top two of the veto and he wins. Despite their bond though, he doesn’t save her. She realizes she has to fight for herself now and starts trying to work on Irina and El. Lucky goes off on El for her sneaking around and she decides she needs to spite him. So she starts to work on the house, convincing Levon he made a mistake by not saving DJ. Persephone makes her statements about working for neglected Pokemon and it goes well with the house, allowing her to go to Levon and further drive in the point of DJ being on the outs. At the eviction, the work of the duo is successful, and Luis emergency exits out of the game. Gigi feels left out of the vote again.
Week 3: This HOH is a tribute to gym leader Grant, being a rock wall competition which comes down to Ember, Eliza, and Persephone. Ember calls out the other two, saying that she is not losing to people inferior to her. She is the next to drop though, followed by Eliza, giving Persephone the win. In the HOH room, Levon, Irina, and Liz come up to the room with Persephone to complain about noticing El and Zoltan scheming. To save her skin and avoid implication, she plays coy and suggests they keep an eye out for those two. Each of them go back to their rooms and bring in a plus one to the alliance, adding in Ara, Eliza, and Matt, who is evstatic to be involved. To avoid suspicion from both sides, Persephone nominates two of the strongest houseguests, Lucky and Gehrmund. At the veto, Lucky goes on to win it. Lucky, now safe, admits his fears to Irina and DJ about not being strong enough when it matters. When replacement nominees are thrown out, the alliance suggests El and Gigi, but Persephone deflects by bringing up Ember and Genshin which causes the alliance to split between them. She sides with Eliza and puts up Genshin. Not wanting to get let out of the vote again, Gigi goes to El to ask her how the vote is going and she says Genshin is going. He doesn’t trust her and goes to people outside of his alliance, Irina, Lucky, and DJ in the next room, to see what they think. All of them want Gehrmund out so Gigi goes with his gut. At the eviction, his gut is correct and only three votes go to Genshin, evicting Gehrmund 9 to 3.
Double Eviction: Are you surprised to see one so early? Well with 17 contestants we had to keep the season going smoothly so why not see two pre-jurors out on the same night? The HOH is a cycling tourney from Grant which sees Irina, Ember, and DJ in the lead. DJ, empowered by her music and knowing she is on the bottom, goes on to win it. She puts up Lucky for being a jerk to her and Gigi because she wants to make a big move against him. At the veto, Zoltan lets slip to Gigi about their alliance which tips off DJ that something is up. Lucky ends up winning and saving himself. DJ puts up Zoltan because of knowing of his alliance with the dragon. Both alliances split up on the vote and ends up with Persephone being the deciding vote between the two. She chooses to cut off Zoltan, evicting him so early.
Week 4: With Zoltan gone, one more HOH is being played, and DJ is unable to compete. This time, the contestants are in a skating rink like Korrina’s gym, skating and avoiding obstacles to be the last one standing. Persephone easily skates through and wins it. DJ compares notes with Gigi after he gets off the block and he reveals Persephone was working with them too. She talks to Irina in her room, and he talks to Genshin in his room who don’t know a thing about it. But when Irina goes to Ara and Eliza about it, they are ticked that Persephone was alluding them like that. The six form an alliance. Persephone continues using easy nominees to hide her loyalty seeing Lucky hit the block again next to Ember. The veto is close, with Lucky looking he will win again. But Ara pulls out the win and stops him from saving himself. The new six person alliance is split on who to vote, with DJ and Irina seeing Lucky’s strength and wanting him gone. But Gigi, Eliza, and Ara know that Lucky is Persephone’s target and doesn’t want her getting her way. El plots with Gigi to convince him about Lucky winning too many vetoes to try and sway his vote. At the eviction, the house is split between honoring Persephone’s wishes or evicting someone who is kind of a jerk. Ember doesn’t make it easier by claiming she is better than most of them. In the end, strategy wins out and Lucky is sent home, leaving Gigi at odds with his alliances again.
Week 6: This is the last week before jury and it is a vine climb challenge themed after Ramos. Irina, Levon, and Liz climb the fastest but Irina finds a shortcut and wins. Irina and Eliza confront Persephone about her double-crossing and she storms off. Liz, Matt, and Levon ask how they found that out but they brush it off. El, having done a lot of behind the scenes plotting, comes into the spotlight as the target next to Ember, who isn’t making any new friends with her attitude. DJ begins playing samples of her music around the house to people who will listen to her. Irina and Liz actually are swayed by it and the three bond more. At the veto, Persephone is in the lead, aiming to save El. But Genshin blocks her at the last second to win. He keeps the nominations the same, seemingly sealing El’s fate. Liz lashes out at Persephone for her betrayal, saying that it was awful. Persephone says it is just a game and to relax. Ember borrows something from Eliza but then breaks it. Her reaction is to tell Eliza “oh well” and shrug it off. Annoyed, the plant goes to her different alliances and tells them Ember is too much of a liability to have in the house. Genshin remains insistent on El leaving but DJ considers it, seeing that El’s game is in the open now. She tells Gigi that the plan has shifted to Ember and he appreciates her for telling him, solidifying their bond. At the eviction, the push is successful and Ember is sent out of the door. She initially refuses, saying that she is superior and no one else deserves the win. But Levon cuts her off, claiming that if she was the best she would have proved it, and kicks her out of the door.
Week 6: The jury starts this week! The HOH is themed off of Lumiose tower and Clemont’s gym! The quiz includes physical and endurance elements as well which is an equal opportunity for more people, especially the smaller DJ and El. El pulls ahead and ends up winning, chuckling looking at everyone else’s faces. Persephone tries to come back to her but she brushes her off, saying that she put her game in danger but she won’t hit the block because she appreciates her friendship as long as she doesn’t talk. El also gets the power to shuffle the rooms, choosing to put people with others that they hate. {Persephone, Genshin, and Eliza are together. Liz, DJ, and Levon are together. Leaving Irina, Gigi, and Matt in the last room. Her initial target is Eliza for seemingly having a lot of roots in the house. She is put up against Matt, for being a good pawn. At the veto, El is irritated as Persephone tries to trick her and give her a run for her money. El ends up winning but stays bitter at Persephone. Matt tries to go on the offensive, campaigning against Eliza. But Eliza has a lot of power through most of the house and Irina, Levon, and Liz aren’t really on his side. Persephone jumps on the anti-Matt train to spite El, with Gigi and DJ finding out and sticking with the house to not rock the boat. At the eviction, El watches as her target stays and Matt leaves unanimously.
Week 7: The next HOH is themed after Valerie’s Fairy gym and sees the houseguests navigating the maze-like house to come out first. Ara, Gigi, and Irina continue to stay leading the comps, with Irina winning her second HOH. DJ realizes that she can shield herself using these strong players and tries to work on getting Ara on her side. Meanwhile, El and Gigi get into an argument, dragging in Liz to Gigi’s defense. Irina decides that this is the time to pick sides and consults Ara and Eliza, who decide to side with Gigi and turn on Liz, putting her and El on the block. Persephone breathes a sigh of relief for avoiding the block. At the veto, Irina goes on to win it again. Liz approaches her, flaming mad wondering why she was on the block instead of Persephone for being a sneak. Irina backs down on her plan, much to Eliza’s chagrin, and takes Liz off the block, sitting Persephone next to El. Eliza goes on a tour of the house, checking in with her allies on both sides to make sure she is still in good with them all. Due to her good nature, it is well received. She convinces Liz that Persephone already blew her own game up and owes more to them than El does. At the eviction, Liz flips her vote to El, breaking the swing and evicting EL.
Week 8: The next HOH is a quiz themed after Olympia and her psychic Pokémon. Gigi does well again but Eliza proves to be really smart and comes out on top. With Irina and Ara, she decides how they should play this week and which side they should pick. Eliza has the idea to let the two sides fight, and they survive in the middle, not getting picked off. Genshin and Liz go on the block, confusing everyone. Liz is filled with rage and knows she can’t trust Eliza or Irina now and takes her game into her hands by winning the veto. Levon goes on the block in her place. DJ has a breakdown when she realizes that she was played. She cries to a similarly annoyed Gigi, who comforts her and tells her they need to plan ahead. Genshin and Persephone get in a big fight, as he blames her somehow for him going up. Ara pushes the fight forward, hoping that the two sides stay at each other’s throats. DJ and Gigi are resolute in saving Genshin, as Liz is to keeping Levon. But Persephone hesitates, not really trusting Levon as part of her alliance anymore. At the eviction, Persephone confirms that she is voting Levon, causing Ara and Irina to vote that way as well, evicting him in 9th place. Liz and Persephone decide not to work with the trio anymore though.
Double Eviction: Surprise part 2! We are continuing this crazy week by sending one more person to the jury house! The next competition is a crazy psychic maze. Liz goes all out to save her skin but is unsuccessful when Gigi finally wins. He puts up the obvious two in Liz and Persephone. At the veto, he goes on to win it. In the interim, Liz gets into a shouting match with Ara and Irina. At the veto ceremony Gigi looks to DJ after they had a talk. DJ nods at him and he saves a shocked Liz. In his place goes Irina. However, at the eviction ceremony, Irina has a beautiful statement prepared, exposing Persephone as the ultimate double-crosser and revealing nasty things she said about everyone. The houseguests voting realize they have no choice but to vote Persephone, who goes home unanimously.
Week 9: The final gym leader HOH is the icy block pushing comp themed after gym leader Wulfric’s gym, with ice slides leading to new rooms. Fresh off the block, Irina wins it. Ara ends up in the Drasnea room with DJ and Gigi while Liz, Genshin, and Eliza end up in a room together. DJ and Gigi get closer to Ara in order to get closer to her and stay safe this week. It works when Ara vouches for them to Irina when deciding who goes up next to Liz and Genshin hits the block. At the veto, Liz wins again, saving herself. Feeling scared for himself, Gigi talks privately with Irina about DJ trying to save all of the big names to be shields over her to get her put up over him. Irina likes both of them though and shifts the target to Genshin, putting up Eliza as a pawn. Gigi is shocked but hides his deception out of shame. Liz continues to isolate herself because she feels on the outs, but DJ goes out of her way to comfort her, saying that no one deserves to feel lonely for so long. Genshin commends Irina for finally turning on Eliza and says they can make a sneaky ghost type final 2 deal. At the eviction, Gigi cotes Eliza to try and break the alliance, but everyone else votes for and blindsides Genshin.
Week 10: The HOH is a gym badge puzzle consisting of elements from every gym. It is a close race but Ara beats out Eliza for the win. Because of her connection to DJ and Gigi, she wants to save them again, so she puts up Liz next to Eliza for winning way too much. Liz is used to this by now and starts to give up on herself for being in such a bad spot. DJ continues to try and hype her up, even though she doesn’t want to keep her, she hates seeing her so sad. Liz fumbles in the veto, seeing Irina win again. When she saves herself, Ara puts up Eliza in her place. Angry at Ara for picking a side, Irina and Eliza reveal to DJ that Gigi and Ara tried to throw her under the bus. She thanks them but then goes off to cry, feeling distraught and feeling even more on the bottom. At the eviction, it is a clean sweep vote to eliminate Liz.
Week 11: The next HOH begins, sending the final 5 through all four of the elite 4 rooms in the same order as the first HOH. In Siebold’s room, Eliza finishes last and is eliminated. During Malva’s room, DJ and Irina swiftly make it through the competition but Gigi catches up, barely making it through. Gigi continues to fall behind in Wikstrom’s room, eventually losing his footing and falling off. Finally, Irina and DJ go head to head in Drasnea’s wind battle. DJ wants to prove herself and finally win something while Irina wants to preserve her lead on the game. DJ ends up coming out on top, winning. DJ knows Irina is tough competition so puts her up next to Ara, who she feels betrayed by. At the veto, Ara goes on to win and saves herself. Eliza goes to remind DJ about her betrayal at the hands of Gigi, and DJ sadly puts up Gigi. Gigi goes on damage control and goes back to DJ, who is initially reluctant to see him. However, he is sincere with his apology, and reflects on his shame. She says she doesn’t know how to feel and needs some time. Once he leaves, Eliza goes back to whisper in her ear. She whispers rumors and plays on DJ’s fears of beating him in the end. At the eviction, Eliza sticks with Gigi by voting Irina, while Eliza votes Gigi. DJ is faced with the tie and ends up forgiving her friend, voting out Irina.
Week 12: The final 4 HOH is a Champion cup between Eliza, Gigi, and Ara. They all are in Diantha’s room, enduring a grueling rotating competition. During the comp, Eliza tries to haggle with Gigi and Ara, knowing she is on the outs. She ends up cutting a deal to save the two of them if she wins and Gigi, on the edge of his wits, agrees to the alliance. Him and Ara drop, crowning Eliza the final 4 HOH. She immediately goes back on her word by putting Ara and Gigi. They both feel betrayed but can’t say anything with DJ clueless of the competition. They just have the veto to save themselves. To their shock though, DJ beats both of the powerhouses she was using as shields to win the veto, proving herself. Gigi goes to DJ again to explain his situation but this time, DJ is even more mad. She says that he keeps trying to turn on her whenever it seems right for him and then feels guilty and apologizes like it’ll fix everything. The Garchomp reflects on this, not really knowing the pressure of being on the backfoot being a veteran battler. He asks her at least to consider taking her closest ally to the final 3 and she says she doesn’t have one of those. At the eviction, DJ has the power to decide who goes home again, with Gigi on the block again, but she hesitates with the opportunity to eliminate Ara. In the end, she reveals that she is evicting Ara, shocking Gigi and Eliza both.
The Reunion: In the front plaza of the Kalos League, we sit with all of the jurors so far. Matt, El, Levon, Persephone. Genshin. Liz, Irina, and Ara are here to talk about the game. El and Persephone are up first to talk about their drama. El says that she may be sneaky but at least she was up front and didn’t claim to fight for neglected Pokemon before leaving her allies behind. Persephone says that its just a game. Liz points out that it is a game broadcasted to so many people live and Persephone could have let her dans down. Levon asks Irina and Ara about their choosing sides, wondering why they were so obvious about being in the middle. Ara says that they had to choose their best path to the end. Irina then counters Ara questioning why she sided with Gigi and DJ instead of her and Eliza, who she thought they had something with. Ara is speechless at being called out. Matt goes to speak but is cut off by Genshin starting beef with Levon. The jurors are asked who they are rooting for so far. Ara says that Gigi is super strong and deserves to get another champion crown. Levon and Genshin agree. Irina and Liz back up Eliza for having roots all over the house. Persephone agrees, saying that she played sneaky and only told the parts of the truth that would save her and put other people under, which is smart. Matt finally speaks up. Telling everyone not to sleep on DJ. She is incredibly kind and sociable but also can win challenges and positioned herself in a place where she was never at risk of going home. El agrees, saying that she picked the right allies who slowly tore their own games apart. The jury reflects and comes out still not knowing who to pick.
Final HOHL Gigi, DJ, and Eliza prepare for part 1 of the HOH, a grueling physical race up victory road. Gigi easily clears the other two. Watching on screen, Ara comments that she was right about his strength. DJ and Eliza face off in part two, piecing through each gym badge who played in what competitions during each gym badge and whoever got the fastest wins. Eliza gets confused due to not remembering which side she was on each week but picks up steam near the end. DJ uses her agility to get ahead, even when she is confused. DJ’s time is faster by a minute and a half. Levon thinks aloud how she really did know a lot more than she let on. Liz says that she probably had a tune for every week and type. In the final part, DJ and Gigi face off. During the quiz, Gigi again tries to apologize to DJ. She simply tells him to focus on the comp so she has real competition. It comes down to a tie-breaker question about the gallons of water flushed through any competition using water. Gigi guesses an admirable amount but DJ realizes the question is a trick, as none of the water would hold in the pipe system, so she answers and wins!
Final Eviction: Gigi and Eliza face eviction from DJ. She tells them both that they were great gamers and she feels honored to play with them. She feels like she really grew into her own in the endgame and was able to beat people at competitions! But she says that her choice tonight comes down to honesty. One person was honest with her with the painful truths, while the other was only honest to save their own skin, and the line between the two is very blurry with these two. Ara says there is no way she saves Eliza now. Genshin says that this is about Gigi for sure. But she shocks almost everyone in the jury when she evicts Gigi. The dragon accepts defeat. He apologizes to DJ, who is starting to finally break and cry, for his betrayal and commends her strength in evicting him. He promises to learn more and be a better champion level Pokemon. She hugs him as he leaves, Eliza smirking in the background.
Jury Questioning: Eliza and DJ face the jury. Eliza goes first, she claims her game with absolute eloquence and finesse. She had vines all over the house, granting her a certain path to the end. Even when she was on the block, she had more allies voting on her side and still got her way with who hit the block every time. She states how she manipulated the ultimate champion and caused him to break, showing her power and how great she was at the game. DJ follows, initially Timid. She tells a story about starting on the bottom, not really in any alliances, but how she found her footing and won competitions to win. She looks up and Gigi is looking right at her from the jury. He nods, and she composes herself. After a breath, she speaks with utter confidence that she deserves to win the game more than anybody else. She was always honest and upfront and dominated the social game to the point that no one wanted to put her up because of her joy. She convinced Irina’s trio to side with her and Gigi, convinced Ara to side with her and Gigi, and won out at the right time, deciding who went home in the last three evictions to shape her game to where it needed to go. And now, she sits next to someone who claims to be in control but really, had a huge blind spot. Or more like a deaf ear to the amazing symphony of music happening right next to her. The jury is speechless, Gigi and Liz both smiling.
The jury Votes: Matt says he told everyone and they didn’t believe him. El says that she believed him and everyone better now. Levon says he is very impressed and ready to buy in, Genshin asks how much the album will cost when it comes out, Liz says she is voting for the person who showed her the utmost kindness even when she broke down. Irina says that she has no choice now well this jury speech went, Ara says that she learned about true power tonight. Gigi gets up and goes to vote. He says that he may be a champion’s Pokémon, but someone here is a Champion-Class Pokémon who he is proud to call a friend. And the winner by a unanimous vote is…
Winner: DJ!!!!!
Runner-Up: Eliza
Fan Favorite: Ara
My Favorites: DJ, Gigi, Liz, Irina, El, honestly almost everybody.
My thoughts: I enjoyed writing this season more than most. A lot of it seemed like there were so many shifting alliances or friendships that the decisions came out of nowhere and I was able to write in how they happened and how they got there. And it created one of the most touching winner storylines we have had yet. I don’t think DJ really had full control over the game and was playing from her foot, but she had cheek and charm and didn’t give up even when the times were tough. Her allyship with Gigi was beautiful and him continuing to turn on her only to back out was heartbreaking. But it did make fir a good story to write about it. DJ is an emotional and great winner for her social game and deciding the end game by herself pretty much. Other storylines that were good were the Persephone and EL storylines collapsing around them while Gigi survived. Liz falling apart but still winning her way further than she should have. Eliza and Irina leading the house only to lose control because of Ara. And Eliza using her half truths and deals to squeak by at the end. But DJ had a really good story and came out absolutely jamming.
So what’s next? Well there are two seasons left and I already have ideas about them. Keep an eye out for the next sign-ups as they will be a bit different. It will also include a poll about this season and it’s legendary characters as well. Thank you guys for another iconic season, til next time!

2024.05.01 05:40 reverendcanceled 4/30/24 Tue 790 = Robot Head! False Compassion, Earthquake, Black Swan, Starhunter

False compassion happens when one feels for a certain group and takes action to the point of not just negatively impacting a group but making it unfair or unjust. The way we treat immigrants versus homeless Americans is a great example. An even better example is making it illegal for women to complain about men (who 'identify' as women) into women's changing rooms and restrooms. It's made even worse forcing female athletes to compete with them. Now it's becoming illegal to even lodge a complaint or call someone but other than their preferred pronouns. We'll see how this works out in the courts.
On April 8th, apart from what we all know about, Reddit changes it's appearance. I rebooted my computer, thinking one of my extensions changed what the website sees my computer as. I've got a plugin so I can see what my website looks like on a smartphone. No, they definitely downgraded the code. Now when it reloads after a reboot, it goes to the last article I've looked at rather than my main feed. They also got rid of the back to the top button for some reason. Also an annoying popup reminds me that I've been disconnected everytime the wifi has a hiccup.
So far the only things of interest this month was an earthquake in my home state, a scheduled eclipse, the deep state's orchestrated war between Iran and Israel and similar noise like that. The biggest thing I hated was the continuation of the Fisa courts and their illegal ability to spy on all Americans. All. If your client's roommate's stepson's girlfriend's father is on a list to monitor because of whom he talks to in the country of his origin, you can now be monitored. By the principle of the seven degrees of Kevin Bacon, everyone (except the congress members themselves) can and are being monitored. Every text, phone call and email. Someone should organize a mass protest where we all file in federal court all in the same week.
An all chick version of Stand By Me meets The Terminator is found in Paper Girls, a one season amazon production. An interesting watch. I also saw Kevin can F**k Himself: a hybrid sitcom and dark drama and I really appreciated it's artistic take on the two genres. Very artsy. Utopia is a comic book tv series worth maybe spending some time on if you love that sort of thing. The Peripheral is a very well done tv series about shadow government, time travel, and American rednecks. Totally worth watch if any of that appeals. Starhunter (and Starhunter 2300) was a tv series that ran back the the early 2000's that never really took off, possible due to it's cheesy special effects. The plot was good, the acting and character interactions were superb. The creators went back a redid the special effects and cut out some of the cheesiness renaming it Starhunter Redux and promising a 3 episode third season to finally wrap up the main plot curve. Maybe it was supposed to be a full season but that was back in 2016 and it's still not available and so likely never made. In a few years I'm going to be able to tell an AI to write it, use their likeness and have a season 3 we can all be proud of. The first episode I ever saw ironically was the last episode of the series. It had Geordie Johnson, which I knew from Dracula: The Series, guest staring which immediately drew me into it. A few months later I was able to see the whole series online. I blogged about it back then, back when I thought global warming was an existential threat; that it was a global emergency to save the rainforests; when I was much more emotional, idealistic and significantly less informed. I checked the links, many go to the wayback machine of the internet archive. I'll work more on that in days to come to see if I can find present day sites. I didn't check the spelling. Also saw in the theater, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. I considered it a sold base hit. I didn't even see Phoebe Spengler's ghost friend as a love interest until after I saw it and then binged the making of and some of the cast interviews. I think it didn't quite have the epic nature it needed to have to really expand the franchise, but yet, I'll be surprised if we don't see another one in a few years. They need to take a page from the books of Avengers and Jurassic World. Make the impact global and add epic characters with maybe some franchise crossover. Viva crossovers! I also saw Dune 2 which prompted me to write while watching on my Arrakis page which is one of my spelljamming worlds for pathfinder. The movie was too much like the original to get a high rating from me. It passed the time.
Nothing breeds violence like scarcity. I have been thinking more and more that the upcoming black swan event is a terrorist attack, and if I read between the lines it will involve a ship or a bridge. There is also the probability of an attack on protesters as they are soft targets and will undoubtedly spark more political tension.
How to signal for the the psychic police: envision a black ankh going away from you on an orange background. This summons someone, maybe just an entity, that can help you deal with psychic attacks, curses, black magic and so on. Or you could just post on Reddit. With posts like this I still have some irl acquaintances who think I am danger and bad person for practicing magic and/or reading tarot. They are both Christians (at least the two ladies I am thinking of) who think such goes against the bible and that their powers come from Jesus. One of them sincerely thinks I would curse one of her uncles just because he worked for corrections. If I had wanted to curse people from such corrupt institutions I'd have cursed the worst that I had met irl. I am sad about this but I know of nothing I should do to help them overcome their ignorance. I'll do me, they'll do them, and that's that.
Trying to serve others with love but without wisdom makes you a target for evil to cause you to misuse your service. When the student is ready the teacher appears, so too when the student is ready to be mistaught the teacher will appear. Living a moral life is more important than living a comfortable life. The wisdom does not come when one simply has faith. The wisdom does not come when one squats in other people's houses, shoplifts and commits fraud. The wisdom does not come when one acts as though having sex, smoking pot and drinking booze are priorities. The wisdom does not come when one goes against the essence of the scriptures. The wisdom does not come when one does not take care of one's basic needs in a moral, honest and forthright manner.
Top ten chores I hate to do, just for something a little lighter. 10: Making my bed (I only do the bottom sheet). 9: Doing the dishes. Often they can wait a few days. 8: Sweeping and moping/vacuuming. Once a week is fine by me. 7: Clothes shopping. 6: Folding laundry. I don't mind washing but I don't fold any more than the Greyjoy's sow. 5: Deep cleaning/spring cleaning. I'm waiting for a time when the power is out. 4: Automotive repair. If only I had a car. 3: Shoveling snow. I rent so not a worry at the moment. 2: Gardening. This includes lawn mowing, planting, mulching but not: 1: Raking leaves. It kills my back. Maybe I'll feel different if I had a leaf blower, and maybe I'll find out someday if I ever get to own a house.

2024.04.30 13:00 Forgetful_Learner [ASK and SHARE] Antara Kerja dan Studi Lanjut (Berbagi Pengalaman)

Halo semua,
Ibarat kata, they are currently showing their might in front of employees.

2024.04.28 23:44 SpecialistExchange28 Wheelchair Ramps 101 - DIY down and dirty edition 2024

Wheelchair Ramps 101 - DIY down and dirty edition 2024
Thanks for deciding to read my post today. This is not the definitive or complete explanation of wheelchair ramp design. Before I start let's get the technical potentially legal stuff out of the way first.
Ramps that are indoors or in a fenced in area like a back yard (THE FENCED AREA MAY BE DIFFERENT IF IT IS ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC). Ramps not used by the public = Food delivery, mailperson, utility meter reader, Jahova's Witnesses, etc.
These Ramps do not need to Meer ADA requirements. But should still be functional and safe to use. You'd be surprised at what people do. But if it works, then it works.
Backyards that are fenced in and not accessible to the public MIGHT be excluded.
FOR ANY RAMP OR ACCESSIBLE FEATURE ADDED TO OITDOOR SPACES THAT THE PUBLIC CAN ACCESS WILL 100% NEED A TOWN OR CITY PERMIT. THIS IS WITHOUT EXCEPTION.
Here is where it gets real. If you decide to ignore this and say someone trips, slips pr otherwise gets injured by your accessibility fearure. YOU and only YOU are at fault. Even if it is 100% ADA compliant, the feature was not properly registered with the town or city so it can be noted when and where it is installed and on what property.
Next the town or city will fine you a set amount per day it was in place without a permit. For example a permit for my handcycle shed cost $100 that might seem unfair and costly. But if I had just built my shed without permit they could fine me $1,000 per day it was up from the time it was built.
Getting a permit and making things 100% or better than ADA complaint, yes it is easy to surpass what the ADA asks for. ADA is the bare minimum expected.
This doesn't mean someone trying to con you won't try and sue you. But, if you have things in order such as getting a permit. Making things at least ADA compliant will support your side in a legal issue.
Yup that is the borish stuff for the most part. Forget about it and life will likely get very annoying.
For those who are interested and want a live community to chillax in to talk about most anything really, listen to music and make requests for Fave songs or topics you would like to discuss.
I broadcast live typically in the cold months M-F from around when my pain allows me to get up varies 9am to after noon and I go until my sweetheart arrives home. About 5PM to 6PM I have been broadcasting live 16 years.
Quite literally I am just repeating here what I will talk about live also.
TikTok until the ban kicks in. Then it's back to Twitch. AbiliTV or AbiliTV Live. If you Google the name do not pay attention to the website I don't have one. And the owner of that sight well let's say I don't endorse him.
I am on YouTube, FB, IG,,Twitch, account still there but not used since it went to X (Twitter), Kick - although I don't like the vibe on Kick.
Of course I am here getting started here on Reddit in a more text based community. I am in the Wheelchair and Disabilities communities where I am learning about all sorts of amazing people.
OK, I always hate posting I am a live content creator. I hate it so much I have hardly any community live.
Ramps.
What makes a crappy, good, or excellent ramp?
For me it is the little details that really make the differences. I will use images to try and explain the bare basics.
1st image: Most people see this and think: My prayers have been answered.
No they have not. You will notice the direction the person is using the ramp. Manufacturers do this to play into your desperate need for a ramp solution. They want you imagining how easy there ramp is to use. So they stage images showing that. Much how homes are staged. To make it easier for people to fall victim to slick sales tricks.
What if the door were closed and rhe person was approaching the door? Look at the ramp. How does one say open s screen door or storm door that swings out? Most dwellings will have one.
Now imagine it's raining really hard and that nice metal surface isn't as grippy? And you have a bag or two of groceries on your lap. Now open the storm door and then before it closes as they are typically on a door closer of some design. As you fight the storm door, are annoyed by the driving rain, and fumbling for your keys.
Even on an ideally perfect day without snow or rain this ramp will work 100% against you. Also it isn't wide enough to allow you to move over out of the way ofcthe storm door. Meaning you need to back up and get the door perched against your wheelchair frame to now roll foward to open the entry door. Sadly using the wheelchair brakes just make things all that much more frustrating.
2nd Image: 3 ft ramp $219. This seems decent right? It isn't. You have to account for the pitch or slope.
If you have a threshold that is 10 inches higher than the surface you need to reach, this means you need not just a ten foot long ramp but a raised area that meets the threshold that the ramp attaches to closest to the surface you're trying to reach.
What happens if you decide to use a short ramp and have a steeper slope? The worst will be to flip backwards going up. Next worst you don't have the upper body strength to make it. The next will be you deciding never to use it except to exit with. It is a little less scary going down. Although you need really good hand strength and dexterity to maintain control at higher speeds.
ADDING INFO AS A SAFETY REMINDER: Most manual wheelchairs have what are called brakes. ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ These are NOT brakes like those of a car, or bicycle. Injury or worse can happen when they are used as friction brakes. DANGER: You risk not only destroying your tire and wheelchair but also injuries from catastrophic failures of the tire and possibly the rims of the wheels.
These levers no matter if they are push or pull to lock or scissor styled brakes are only meant and made to hold you in place AFTER you use your hands to stop with. OR FEET for those able to do that.
The reason these are not brakes in the typical sense is because of how they work. They bite into the tire material and can blow out air filled tires by ripping through the rubber tire. On solid tires they can tear the tire causing it to fail and possibly fall off the rim. If the rim is left exposed and you are moving the metal or composite rim will slide on the surface.
The biggest excuses I hear for using these levers as brakes are: They are called brakes. YouTube wheelchair brake basics how to use and not use them. I don't want people ending more disabled than they already are.
My hands are to weak to stop me. I understand that. So my best suggestion is rubber coated work gooves. Leather gloves or some form of glove that you like to use. I personally don't like wearing gloves, but when I go on 16 mile strolls I wear a pair. They provide additional traction and that grip means less hand strength is needed to stop overall. It is not recommended to grab the tire for additional friction at any time while moving down hill.
If tire use us needed make sure you have a pair of heavy duty leather gloves on. Welding gloves short gauntlet works. Warning: This method destroys gloves rapidly. These is due to the sandpaper like friction the tire creates with its texture and tread design. Extreme heat can build up and burn your hands. So pay attention and release grip changing hand positions to reduce this.
Ramps have to be designed to work with the fact wheels like to roll. And steep ramps are what prompted my warning about brake use.
I am considering designing a brake system to work like a bicycle that could be added by most people. I will look into this concept at some point.
So a stubby short ramp might be low cost but isn't the answer it appears in most manufacturers images.
Lots of information that needs to be shared because so many people will fall into the thinking what they have is a good solution and it's harming them and the equipment they use.
Good news here: Most towns and cities do not charge or keep the charge very low for ramp and other disability access devices in public spaces.
What the permit does is show you the bare minimum of what is required to make your project ADA compliant. Also it resistors your ramp or lift with the town or city and at what property. This way should a nosy neighbor want to whine about your project looking horrible the town or city can reassure that negative rube that you are in full compliance with all the ordinances and ADA requirements. So they can mind their own beeswax.
Also the permit is a must if a property owner or landlord are to allow the access in the first place. This has to do with liability and property insurance. Speaking of that crap it would be wise to invest in renters insurance in the event someone claimsxto have been injured by your device. Do not depend only on the landlord or property owner's word that its covered. You could also ask your town or city how that works also to get a straight answer. If the landlord or property owner does claim you are covered always get that in writing.
3rd image shows the lack of what is called a staging area. This is exactly what a porch does. Notice the porch is flat and provides room to move out of the way of any storm door? This is a super important and all to easy to miss feature that makes a ramp go from frustrating to awesome.
I even made that mistake with my ramp I built for my garage. I did change it so it has a 6ft deep 4ft wide same as the ramp staging area that once I installed a screen door I use daily.
4th image: Now it gets colorful. Nothing attaches to the porch or the building in my design. This is to respect the property. And save you on extra costs to restore things later.
The support for the flat area of the porch:
Measure uo to the front top edge of the threshold. Say this is 6 inches or so... Using 4X4 cut to the same width of the porch. These are rated for outdoor ground contact.
Next using decking wood this should be equal to the top front edge of the threshold. In effect the timbers are the support they are orange and just on top of the porch. They go across to provide full support.
How to determine how many. For the porch shown in your image would likely use three. One right under the threshold, one in the middle, and one right along the front edge of the porch.
Decking would go left to right and for the parts with out full support use scrap pieces of 4X4 to position under those rows.
An alternative way to set the supports are: under the threshold is left to right full width of porch. Then instead of the others being left to right. Place one on the left going vertical or not left to right. One on the right side going perpendicular to fhe horizontal one. Then you will cut one 4 inches short for the center also placed parallel to the left and right. The front porch edge piece cut to fit the width between the left and right support.
That would allow you to place decking horizontally left to right with out worry of adding support for some of the deck strips.
The front edge of porch part I feel should be left to right mainly to insure there is no possible way for a ramp to flext or bow in this area. But you are welcome to Google methods on building something like this also.
The ramp for the porch will be the longest most likely based on the photos you shared. They are also referenced later in my post.
Only around the porch and the outside of the caster wheel guides on each side or the blue color in my image needs a railing, as well as down that first ramp.
The other ramps are little more than the plywood laying there. You wouldn't even really need the blue guides on the but they add additional stiffness from bouncing and bending.
Again Google is very good for finding examples of how you can design a capable railing. It doesn't need to be fancy, just meet the requirements the ADA sets. To avoid annoying splinters I strongly suggest using iron pipe or proper outdoor rated round railingbars.
Benefit of the metal pipe is it is very low cost. Con is in the sun it can get hot. To overcome thar railing grip tape can he used to cancle out the hot part and make it easier to grasp. Grip tape is not required.
Thankfully all of this is pretty easy to do if you have some some basic tools or have access to them like narrowing them. If you lack the skill or ability to do this. Trust me when I say buying lunch each day for the hard worker(s) often is payment enough. And Thank You is the perfect payment. Our reward is seeing you enjoying the work put into the project.
Last there is an green outline of a 2x4 on each side of the porch staging area. Put one on the far side as well and this should keep the staging area from shifting leftcand right. Surfaces endure a lot more force than we realize.
5th image I used my garage ramp before I corrected the flat staging area issue.
So this isn't how my indoor ramp now looks. It has no railings as it is not required and the flat area towards the garage side has a 4 inch tall wheel guard wall to keep me from accidentally rolling off front casters or rear wheels.
But, this is roughly how your front porch would look like. All designed to keep everyone safe who uses it.
By connecting the ramp to the flat staging areas makes it much harder for it to shift around. In the case of this if you owned the property you would use a contractors grade waterproof glue and 4 8 inch long lag bolts to secure the 4x4 or wood support right next to and under the threshold and bolt it and glue it to the location. Silicone sealant works also as it is mainly to keep insects from making the area home.
But since the property needs to be returned to original state, I find that making a saddle staging area works wonders. Sadlle in that it is,like a horse saddle. It isn't bolted to the horse but does use the shape of the horse as the stabilizer. And is easy to remove when needed.
Image 6: Sorry about the messy drawing. This is your photo.
The green is the railing around the porch and the first longest ramp.
The light kind of red horizontal strips are stair tread grip tape. Using wood screws shorter than the thickness of the plywood allows you to have a 2 method way to keep these strips in place. For how much they cost you will thank me. One screw near each corner and two one top one bottom in the center. This insures they are secure. The gue or adhesive isn't likely going to stick in every case.
You want full left to right coverage with 2 to 3 inch spacing between each horizontal strip. Yes you can just apply them centered and hope no one slips of they walk closer to the railing. Plus it makes insurance companies feel better also with more safety in mind.
In the event someone slips or falls when pictures are taken of l the scene it will look better for you to have provided more safety than not.
Also more screws can be used if desired. The only thing to make sure of is all screw heads are flat to the surface. The two method way also known as redundant measures to make sure things don't fail to the point of a catastrophe.
The ADA will likely have other suggestions different than I mention. Either will work, I find much of my ideas go beyond ADA requirements.
The ramps since they are so minor in slope may even be able to lay strips of 2x4 or even 1x1 that you screw to the underside of ramp. I almost think you could make what would look like a continuous ramp.
One step won't really need all 8 ft of plywood however keeping them full length means you could likely add smaller pieces where one ramp ends to meet with the highest point so you can connect them so this keeps them from shifting and moving as they will.
The little green marks along the sides of the blue for the length of the ramp represent side supports that are rounded into the ground and screwed to the sides.
As you use a ramp that is not secured it will move a little in the opposite direction of your direction of travel.
Also it will shift left or right when you first roll onto it. And since the ground shown is easy to return to its original condition once this is removed lowers cost at that time.
The blue dots represent horizontal srips placed where needed these are screwed in place as yes they will slide and move into new positions that don't support the ramp.
The goal is no bouncing, bending, flexing, warping ramps.
As long as all wood is rated for ground contact otherwise it will rot away pretty quickly otherwise.
The blue kind of bloody areas are flat sections filled in with plywood.
So once you enter this ramp ot remains a plywood surface until the porch area. Where it's decking.
7th image: An example of how your ramp could be designed. In this image since the ramp os longer and rises up higher I definitely would include ratings on each side. But - it may not require them so that is OK also. The redish area is a flat area at least 5 ft deep and 4ft wide. This would allow a person the chance to turn around also.
The circled spots denote support placement.
Now your steps for me would not need a ramp as I can strong arm my way up short steps or curbs like those. Tha porch would be the only area I would build if this were my place.
8th image: Immediately after moving in I built this and prior to finding the original screen door that the price owners removed and I reinstalled.
It was no fun using this ramp when I had to open the door. I typically had one of the kiddos now all grown up open it first for me.
The lack of a staging or flat area is a huge mistake.
This is ground contact outdoor rated plywood nearly 1 inch thick. Plywood keeps the construction simpler, and removal easier also later.
9th image: Shows the outdoor ramp. Notice the grip tape on this. This is the typical arrangement. I suggest side to side full width strips so able people can walk anyplace and be assured solid footing. The spacing I prefer also assures wheelchair tires have solid grip.
The steeper the ramp I say 3 inches between horizontal strips.
The shallower ramps for your lower or step ramps can be 4 to five inches between them. If they are wide strips works better.
Image 10: This is the ADA recommendation: 36 inches wide. Trust me especially for entry doors you want some space to move over to the side to get out of the way of a screen or storm door. And a place to put down groceries or a package or anything else so you can access the door.
48 inches just happens to be a pretty decent and better than ADA requirements that allows you more room for any purposes.
Image 11: Shows your porch. From what I see this should be pretty easy to cover with the staging area over the porch and ramp going down.
You want to measure from the front edge ofcthe threshold to the ground in front of the porch the walkway leading to it. This will give you a total height that needs to be accounted for.
Say it is a total of 10 inches tall. Your ramp will be 1 foot out per one inch in height. So 10 feet long. Now say you have the room and used 2 8 foot long plywood sheets end to end that is 16 ft. That means your slope will be less overall and easy to roll up. 10 ft will be usable but will be a little harder to roll up.
Funny thing is you use the same energy to roll up 10ft or 16ft. You just exert less energy over a longer distance that still equals the amount it takes to go up a 10 foot length.
Slope is something only you know what works for you. So if you need a little longer of a ramp if room allows it then that is fine.
Oh I forgot skip over the smaller step when making your measurements. That isn't where a ramp will end at to rest.
Image 12: The walkway. These little steps are easily rolled up by some wheelchair users. However of you can not. That is fine.
The over all length of these looks decently long enough. You in effect are just governing them as I hope I explained.
To keep the ramps from moving side spikes can be placed as mentioned 2 at the sides and top, two in the middle sides. And 2 and the bottom sides.
They get rounded into the ground next to each area of the Ramos they will be screwed to. You might even be able to lay a plywood sheet down and see if that is enough to raise you up enough. That the plywood could just lay on the walkway.
Now most likely that option will not fully work. Offered as an alternative.
The very end where ramp ends or starts at the lowest point you can get an aluminum door threshold commercial grade one. It means a little bump up onto the ramp and or down it.
I will photograph the one I have as it works like a charm. Also the rest of my garage ramp.
The deck to ramp can be connected using lag bolts from underneath into the 2 4x4 support. Using 6 or preferred 7 or 8 inch long lag bolts 3 of them to secure the ramp to the staging deck area.
Trust me when I say this, this is a mere drop in the bucket of information on how to design a ramp system.
Last little note:
Always get a permit prior making anything. The permit should cost nothing or very little since it is an accessibility ♿️ need. The information the permit comes with will also be of huge help in DIY or other options.
Sadly there is no way to construct something like this for no cost. However, church groups, friends, local elected officials, and others can be great resources. From fundraising, to helping you locate a foundation or charity to help cover some or all of it.
Do not feel bad for asking for help like this and when needed. Being a renter doesn't mean you should not have accessibility.
Like I mentioned if I was your fellow disabled neighbor I would help construct this.
Tools needed:
Tape measure x 2 I always end up needing 2 of them at times.
4 ft level.
Carpenter square.
Torpedo level. This is a 1 foot long smaller level like the larger 4ft one.
Carpenter or construction style pencil ✏️ they are flat and don't roll away when sat down.
Wood/deck screws 3 or 4in long.
Cordless drill and 2 batteries allows rotation of them when charging. They typically will last 2 or hours each. So when one runs out charge it while using the other.
Leather work gloves.
Socket wrench set for lag bolts.
Screw driver set. Mainly a number 2 Phillips and flathead. These come in handy.
Circular saw - they come corded or cordless either works.
Hand saw for those cuts to awkward for a power tool.
Drill bits for pre drilling holes.
Liquid nails to glue some things together.
Short wood screws not longer than the plywood is thick. For the grip tape strips.
Safety glasses get a few pair.
Hearing protection. Cutting wood can be really loud. Same with drilling it and all.
Things that could help: Something stable to place wood to be cut on.
Saw horses or milk crates the sturdy plastic ones. If they get cut into no big deal.
They cut be cut safely on the ground without risk of damaging tools or injuring you.
Since we are all in the same boat 🚢 in many respects, I find it sp satisfying helping people by helping them learn how they can also help themselves. It's how I was raised. Knowing you have some information and know where to locate more is my payment.
Back to me talking about my live content.
A lot like this post and my others, it is insanely boring stuff. 😴
However, I ask what other content creator is willing to discuss and cover this type of stuff?
Really go look on Twitch live, YouTube live, TikTok Live, Kick,Instagram Live or any other site allowing live content.
How many do you find that can answer questions or get you aimed in the correct direction for the information you need?
16 years now this is what I do for free. I will not and do not monetize my content. I removed myself from Twitch affiliate orogram, I have asked TikTok to allow offboarding and the option to not monetize.
I prefer to lead by example.
Please consider getting to know this strange goofball of a weirdo on my social media channels. It's not a big community but any means and is well sp unique that most people fail to realize all the nerdy disability related bits of knowledge I have to share. Plus I love light sabers and anime to make me extra geeky.
AbiliTV and AbiliTV Live on the main social media platforms.
On TikTok my actual username is AbiliTV and my screen or showing name is DJ Wheelchairbeats.
If you visit tell me your from Reddit and I will in a very socially awkward way greet you. Well I hope with practice this gets less awkward in time. :)
I am not seeking a relationship. Or any side quests. I am at level 54 in my life and to old to give a fart for drama. Making cool new friends, now that's what it's about.
Time to get some photos of my garage ramp.

2024.04.27 14:58 United_Plum_2209 The adverts that urged Northern Ireland to leave Troubles behind

https://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/life/features/the-adverts-that-urged-northern-ireland-to-leave-troubles-behind/36931224.html
A former Stormont spin doctor has criticised legendary Belfast singer Sir Van Morrison for not waiving at least part of his royalty fee for the use of his song Days Like This in the Government's 'peace' advertisements of the Nineties. In a new BBC documentary about the Northern Ireland Office's multi-million pound public service commercials aimed at ending the Troubles, it was revealed that American singer and peace campaigner Pete Seeger had allowed the ad makers to licence one of his songs, Turn, Turn, Turn, for free.
And Andy Wood, the ex-director of information at the NIO, told the programme makers: "I just think it might have been nice if Van Morrison had behaved a bit more like Pete Seeger when it came to waiving perhaps some of the licence fee."
Tomorrow night's hour-long documentary, which is narrated by Eamonn Holmes, said it was Van Morrison who approached the advertisement makers about using Days Like This, rather than the other way around.
The song become a peace anthem in Northern Ireland and the former Them frontman sang it before the appearance by US President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary at the switching on of the Belfast Christmas tree lights in 1995.
The creative team behind the ads, which were first screened in January 1988, claimed they were a success, particularly in promoting a confidential telephone line designed to elicit more intelligence from the public about loyalist and republican terrorists.
But Danny Morrison, the former Sinn Fein publicity director, said the adverts were propaganda.
In a withering attack, he said the Government advertising campaign had no effect whatsoever in his community.
The NIO financed no fewer than 25 commercials between 1988 and 1998, ranging from graphic images of machine gun murders in pubs to optimistic pointers to a new way forward. One piece of footage even showed two greyhounds being exercised together - one with an orange muzzle, the other with a green one.
The documentary, called Ads on the Front Line, also revealed that ex-Secretary of State Mo Mowlam thought the expensive and extensive campaign was a waste of time and money.
Wood said the adverts grew out of an idea from one of Mowlam's predecessors, Tom King, who initially wanted a programme to be produced in praise of the police and Army.
After broadcasters turned down his idea, the NIO came up with an alternative for paid adverts to air on Ulster Television and the Independent Broadcasting Authority gave the go-ahead on the basis that there was no-one who would object.
David Lyle, who worked for the McCann Erickson advertising agency at the time, helped create the first advertisement, called 'The Future'.
It focused on a young man, played by Perry Fenwick - who would go on to portray a character in EastEnders called Billy Mitchell, which ironically was also the name of a prominent UVF man in Belfast.
The slickly produced commercial, which was filmed in Scotland because of security considerations, showed 'Mitchell' agonising about how to achieve a better life for himself and his family and the way he chose to do so was by ringing the confidential telephone number.
The commercial included a representation of a brutal kneecapping in an alley and there was an almost subliminal message in there too, with images of the Enniskillen bombing that claimed 12 lives in November 1987 playing on a TV in the background.
Danny Morrison said the NIO films distorted the picture of the conflict in which he said the violence also came from the state.
He said the ad campaign wasn't targeted at resolving the Troubles through negotiation, discussion or compromise. Instead, he said, it was aimed at telling people to inform on their community.
He added: "I don't believe for a second they felt they were doing good. They felt that they were taking part. They were fighting their side of the war and this is the way they did it."
Former UVF man and now PUP leader Billy Hutchinson said the ads were an attempt to demonise the 'combatants' in the conflict.
But Julie Anne Bailie, who was at the forefront of the renewed advertising campaign from 1992, told the Belfast Telegraph that by the Nineties demonising terrorists and taking the moral high ground that terrorism was wrong was not enough.
She added: "That's why we developed a psychological approach which put the family at the very heart of the whole strategy. We humanised the terrorists and showed they were suffering as well as every other section of society."
Former journalist and Independent Broadcasting Authority executive Don Anderson said: "If in the context of today, similar advertisements began to appear in the United Kingdom which sought to humanise, if you like, people who were responsible for 7/7 in London or the bombing in Manchester, I think there would be a mighty, mighty eruption."
More and more, the films ratcheted up the impact of terrorism on the families of the perpetrators themselves. The most famous of three subsequent films, I Wanna Be Like You Dad, which launched in July 1993, was sound-tracked by the song The Cat's In The Cradle by the late American singer Harry Chapin.
The advert showed a boy growing up just like his terrorist father and following in his murderous footsteps before he himself was killed. It also featured a horrific shooting in a bar by a crazed killer in a scene that has ensured thousands of views down the years for the advert on YouTube.
The father was played by Michael Nardone, who is now a well-known actor in dramas such as The Night Manager.
Julie Anne Bailie said there was a 729% increase in the number of what the security forces described as 'useful or genuine' calls to the confidential telephone line in the wake of the ads, which often took over three months to complete.
Before they aired, some of the films were the subject of ground-breaking new techniques called real-time response testing, where 'guinea pigs' gave their immediate reactions to what they were watching.
The commercials won major awards for the producers but the tensions here were such that the advertising agency didn't seek publicity for its achievements. The NIO films changed dramatically after the ceasefires of 1994, with the emphasis then on 'selling' the new, more peaceful climate and the possibilities that it offered.
The first commercial of that ilk was called 'Time to Build' and used the Byrds hit Turn, Turn, Turn as the backdrop.
Andy Wood said the music licence for the song was held by Seeger and after NIO officials got in touch with his agent the word came back: "You can use it for free worldwide, I won't charge you a thing because I am so impressed by what's happening in Northern Ireland."
Another 11 feel-good commercials were produced to capitalise on the optimistic mood, at a cost of £2m.
Van Morrison's songs Have I Told You Lately and Brown Eyed Girl appeared in the upbeat adverts. But Danny Morrison was clearly underwhelmed by the ads, which tried to advance the notion that people here could now aspire to better things.
He said he didn't need an NIO advert to tell him that it was okay for him to have aspirations.
"They were seen as condescending," he added. Van Morrison, meantime, was about to take on another role in the advertising campaign.
Julie Anne Bailie said the singer's lawyer rang with a proposal from him.
"He said Van really wants you to listen to this new song which hasn't been released yet," she said.
"It's called Days Like This and it may well work with the whole mood of your campaign." The song was used as the soundtrack for a film showing two young boys, one Protestant, one Catholic, befriending each other.
It wasn't filmed amidst bleak buildings in Scotland this time but rather in the sun-kissed sand dunes on Runkerry strand at Portballintrae.
The song was a perfect fit, and Julie Anne Bailie said picking the right music for the films was crucial.
David Lyle told the Belfast Telegraph that he had no doubts the adverts had a major impact on saving lives in Northern Ireland.
"We were unrelenting in our commitment and the research showed that the adverts worked."
Don Anderson said: "I think they can say, 'we did a good job, we prepared ground that was worth preparing', because in the end these ads did contribute to an atmosphere that allowed the peace to progress."
Even Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, who was initially opposed to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998, said: "I think in a way even the politicians were influenced by the adverts.
"If nothing else, it re-affirmed us in our sense that we had at least to give this a chance."
The films also led on to Lyle and Bailie diversifying into advertising campaigns to tackle the scourge of deaths on the roads.
Julie Anne Bailie said: "The original films laid the ground for a very graphic style of advertising. If people sat through 'I Want To Be Like You' for two and a half minutes with that level of explicit violence they were, in a way, conditioned to the reality of things."

2024.04.27 00:11 isabelgibneyta My surgery experience through to 5 days post op (an essay!)

This is LONG! But I found this sort of thing very helpful to read when others posted so I want to give a bit back now. This is the first time I've ever been in hospital for any sort of procedure so I didn't know what to expect, and reading other people's experiences made me less fearful than I would have been.
The basics:
Caucasian 49f, 5' 8"/173cm tall, wearing a correctly fitting UK 34H bra before surgery. Aiming for a 34D (my preference) or DD (what my surgeon thinks is achievable). Surgeon advised that an FNG will be necessary because my natural breasts are a bit too long to safely move the nipples without detaching them first.
Private procedure, private hospital in New Zealand. I have no insurance coverage for this and am not eligible to have it on the public health system due to having no serious problems leading up to this. I don't even have back pain. All credit to my Panache Tango bras which have kept everything supported and contained for many years now.
Sunday 21 April:
8pm: Finished dinner. No more food now until after my surgery although water is allowed until 5am. I thought I'd be really nervous and unable to sleep, but actually I went to sleep no bother.
Other than not eating or drinking in the hours beforehand I had no pre-surgery instructions except to cease any sort of self-medication or taking supplements for two weeks in advance of surgery.
Monday 22 April (surgery day):
Pre surgery
4am: woke up for a pee, had a few sips of water, then went back to sleep
6am: alarm woke me up. Had a shower and changed into my going-to-hospital clothes. I was glad that I'd planned ahead and thrown a tea towel over the kettle so I didn't make myself a morning coffee on autopilot!
6:30am: my friend came to pick me up to go to the hospital. I had planned to walk myself there but he wouldn't hear of it and in the end it was nice to not be walking alone in the dark for 45 minutes.
6:45am: arrived at hospital, gave my friend one last squishy-boob hug, and went in. I was a bit apprehensive but not too bad. I used box breathing to keep my body calm.
7:00am: nurse escorted me upstairs to have my pre-op consultation. This involved going over my health (good), allergies (none), existing medications (none), and what to expect from the surgery process. There were no tests other than checking my height and weight, which confirmed that my pre-surgery stress eating has definitely had an impact! No pee tests, no blood tests. She asked could I be pregnant, I said definitely not, and that was the end of that line of questioning.
7:15am: nurse gave me a block of foam infused with antiseptic soap, and instructions to wash my torso and under my arms at the sink before changing into the hospital gown and dressing-gown and compression stockings that she provided. She had already left the room before I realised that I didn't know if I was meant to rinse off the soap, and the packet didn't give that level of instruction, so I just towel-dried myself and the soap turned the towel pink. Oops.
7:30am: anaesthetist came in to talk to me. Went over my health/allergies/medications again, and he also had me move my head and mouth in various ways to make sure there'd be no issue with getting a breathing tube in there or whatever else he might want to do. I told him I was very nervous about getting the IV needle inserted, so he offered to give me gas first and I gratefully accepted. He also gave me an anti-nausea patch to stick just below my right ear, and a couple of sedative tablets to settle my nerves. I have a history of my brain overriding sedative tablets, probably due to all the adrenaline in my system when I'm anticipating being jabbed with a needle, but I took them anyway because I was so thirsty that I wanted the little cup of water that arrived to wash down the tablets with.
7:40am: my surgeon came in with his indelible marker (an office supply bog-standard marker, which I found very amusing as it was so very ordinary and not like a special surgical tool) to mark me up. We confirmed what size I would like to be after surgery, a D cup or thereabouts, and he marked all the places where he would cut and sew me and drew a few other things on my skin to remind himself of what to do. He did this while I was standing up. He used a wire template for the new areola/nipple area on each breast so they will be the same size and shape after surgery. The nipples will be a lot higher than what nature provided for me!
7:45am: another nurse came in and helped me to settle into a trolley bed, and tucked me in under a nice smooth sheet and a lovely self-warming blanket so I was cosy and relaxed.
8:00am: the nurse wheeled me to theatre. At no point did I notice any effects of the sedative and I was sitting up on my elbows as we travelled so I could see where we were going. We arrived into a clean, modern-looking operating theatre with a feature wall and lots of people and machinery. I scooted over from my trolley onto the operating table and lay down. People fussed over machinery (as the anaesthetist said, it was like the sudden flurry of activity when an F1 car comes in to have tyres changed). Somebody put calf pumps on my lower legs to keep blood flow moving during and after surgery. The anaesthetist put a mask over my nose and mouth, and poked me in the corner of the eye as he did so which I didn't enjoy very much, but before I had time to protest he was instructing me to puff out all the air in my lungs and then breathe in enough to deflate all the air in the gas bag attached to the mask. I did so and felt very claustrophobic immediately because my brain and body could tell that it wasn't normal air I was breathing. It was heavy and smelled unpleasant and all my natural instincts were telling me to get away from the poison. Thankfully this didn't last long, because by the time I started drawing my second breath I could already tell that it was working. I don't remember finishing the second breath or anything after that.
Post surgery
10:20am: I woke up in a recovery ward and it took a moment to remember where I was or what I was doing there, as I'd been having pleasant dreams up to that point. I asked the nurse what time it was, which is how I knew the time. She said that everything had gone well and she gave me an ice block which went down very nicely. I was in no pain or discomfort but I was in and out of sleep - I actually woke myself up snoring at one point because of course I was on my back. My surgeon came in and said everything went perfectly and I didn't even need the FNG in the end. I asked how much weight he took off and he said 1.1kg from my right breast and 850g from my left, so almost 2kg or 4.4lb in total.
11am ish: at some point I was moved to my own private room but I don't remember this. I feel like I was awake at the time but I just can't remember any details now. I woke up again in bed with the calf pumps working away on my lower legs and a drain coming out of each side of my ribcage to drain fluid into bottles on the floor on each side of the bed.
My incisions were all taped up so nothing was visible. There was also a wide tape across my upper chest which gave lots of support. My nipples had no feeling in them but that is normal for my body, and they had blood supply and were reacting to changes of temperature or sensation so that's all looking really good.
11:30am: by now I was mostly awake and taking selfies with my phone. My "emergency contact" friend came to visit, as the hospital had phoned her to say I was out of surgery, so that was a nice surprise. I was probably not making a great deal of coherent sense yet but I remember talking to her and also flashing her because I wanted to show off my new boobies!
1:30pm: time for lunch, which turned out to be a selection of finger sandwiches, a bowl of fruit salad, and a glass of orange juice. Perfect!
A nurse helped me to the toilet, as I needed to have my calf pumps temporarily disconnected before I could get out of bed. Being upright and mobile was no problem, and I was glad that I'd practised so many squats before surgery because I could easily lower myself to put the drain collector jars on the floor and then pick them up again after I'd washed my hands.
The rest of Monday was me having hourly nurse checks for the first four hours, then four-hourly for the rest of my stay, and eating delicious food. Dinner was a sweetcorn and coconut chowder followed by beef brisket with mashed potato and salad, and a blueberry and lemon cobbler for dessert. I had an evening supper of cheese and crackers.
I received IV antibiotics through the peripheral IV port in my left wrist. This port was the only really uncomfortable part of my whole experience and definitely gave me more pain overall than anything else. I was given alternating codeine and paracetamol to keep my pain manageable, but there was almost no pain the majority of the time and I never rated it higher than 2 out of 10 apart from that IV port.
Another friend came to visit that evening, which was very welcome. I hadn't told many people that I was having this surgery so I wasn't expecting any visitors, but it was really nice to see familiar faces and to have them see that I was in great form!
Tuesday (1 day post op)
After being woken at midnight and again at 4am for checks, I gave up on getting much sleep (but also didn't feel very tired), so I pressed my call button at 5:30am and summoned sandwiches and a mug of tea. Breakfast proper, muesli and toast and yoghurt and a pot of coffee, arrived at 7am.
My drains had drained almost nothing in the past 24 hours, so it was no surprise when my surgeon visited and said that I was cleared to have them taken out and to go home. He said I'd have a blood test before leaving and I immediately got extremely anxious as there had been no mention of any blood tests before this point so I wasn't at all prepared. After some discussion he said that, as it was only a routine check that he does for all his patients and he had no particular concerns about me, we could skip that. He said that I might be a touch anaemic but I didn't lose much blood during surgery so it's probably not a big deal. I eat a lot of red meat anyway so I think that will sort itself out without any intervention.
By 9.30am I had the calf pumps off and was getting ready to be discharged. The nurse came to give me more intravenous medication of some sort, this time injected directly into the IV port rather than dripped in from a bag. First she flushed the port with saline, which was fine, then injected the medication, which was fine, then she followed up with another saline flush which was really painful. It felt like she was jabbing me with a needle. I loudly protested so she had another couple of attempts but with the same painful result each time. Then she brought in a different nurse who had a go, but I was almost crying with pain and eventually they stopped. I don't know what changed and they could not offer any explanation, but I assume the needle implanted in my wrist got moved somehow after the medication and before the second saline flush. Thank goodness they decided to just let it go as they'd got a couple of ml of saline in there already so the medication was probably all in me as it should be.
After this drama I was glad to lie and rest for a while. The nurse gave me some codeine before having my drains taken out; I had the choice of one drain at a time or both at once, so I chose both at once and a pair of nurses had them whipped out in no time. They taped up the drain sites and then I could have a shower, although it was really more of a flannel bath because the shower head was at waist height. That was fine and it was lovely to freshen up with my own Fenjal shower gel and put on some moisturiser.
Last step before being released was to have that IV port removed. I was so glad to see it go. After that, my friend came to collect me, we went by the pharmacy to pick up my prescriptions (codeine, laxative, and anti-inflammatory tablets) and off home. I felt alert, mobile, almost pain-free apart from some stinging in my incisions if I moved to quickly, and very much ready to go home.
This was the last day that I had any codeine. I just took paracetamol from then on. I did not experience any constipation.
Wednesday (2 days post op)
I took it very easy today. Friends came to visit in batches and I received them while lying on the sofa, and allowed them to bring me cups of tea and clean the kitchen for me. I was worn out by 6pm and went to bed early but was awake again by midnight. Then back to sleep from around 4am to 7am. I'm not in any pain but am taking paracetamol every 8 hours just to keep it that way.
Thursday (3 days post op)
I cautiously walked a couple of kilometres to the local supermarket and back, which turned out to be no problem so long as I walk gently and slowly. My underarms are very bruised from the small bit of side lipo that my surgeon does as standard, but I can easily reach up or out so long as I'm careful, and changing clothes is no problem. I don't need to wear button-front tops as I can pull a t-shirt over my head without any discomfort. I did not receive any instructions from my surgeon about how to sleep, how to move, what to avoid, or anything other than "wear a stretchy zip-front bra and do less than you think you can", so I'm listening to my body and letting it set the pace.
Saturday (5 days post op)
This is today! I am now 5 days post op and feeling great. I can easily move around the house and go out for walks, although I wouldn't want to do anything even close to strenuous just yet. Even the prospect of walking up a flight of stairs would make me think twice and then look for an elevator. Mentally I feel fine and could easily have resumed my remote WFH job by the end of the week, but it's nice to have some time to just enjoy my new body and let myself heal with no pressure.
I've been sleeping slightly raised up on a pile of pillows with a maternity pillow bolstering me on either side. This is mainly so I don't roll over on my side in my sleep. This happened twice last night so my body obviously wants to get back to normal, but it would be far too painful so I'll stick with the pillow nest for the time being.
My chest is starting to get itchy now so things are definitely healing. I'll be taking a daily antihistamine tablet from now until whenever that stops being so annoying!
EDIT
Thursday (10 days post op)
Today is day 10 post op for me, so I obediently trotted along to my surgeon's rooms to have my original dressings removed and replaced with Mefix tape. Everything is healing perfectly and there are no concerns either from me or from the surgeon. On the way home I stopped off to do some clothes shopping and was trying on tops and dresses that are three to four sizes down from what I was wearing a fortnight ago. It's amazing.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk, LOL. Feel free to ask any questions!
