2024.05.14 17:12 Tartanclad How Gates of Hell could make a Commonwealth faction truly unique

Recently Gates of Hell released the American faction and did a full overhaul of the German faction, leading to a pair of interesting factions with an incredible variety of historically authentic uniforms. You could zoom in on any of the squads and see the diverse uniforms depicted right down to the insignia on their caps and the regiments on their patches. Shermanator’s interview of Chase/Trudel (the lead animator & 3D human artist) gave me faith in the developer’s passion for the history and the game. This made me quite excited, because we have yet to see a British Commonwealth faction but there is some heavy implication that we can expect one in the future.
I wanted to make this thread, because I wanted to express my desire to see elements in the game that would make the Commonwealth faction a wealth of interesting units, uniforms and nationalities, particularly via the doctrines system that exists within the game. The intention is to throw in representatives across all the major nations of the British Commonwealth as well as some of the Allied armies-in-exile that came under British command. I also want to highlight some of the vehicles that are rarely mentioned in other games due to their obscure theatre or role. For the record, I'm not telling the devs what to do - I'm just making some example doctrines that I came up with as an example of the variety of units I'd love to see and making their inclusion plausible. Mostly to get the community talking.
I won’t talk about early war, partially because ‘Early war’ in Gates of Hell is largely post-Dunkirk, but also because I feel like what I am asking is still quite a lot just for one faction across two eras. I also I won’t be mentioning the more obvious or general units like Stuarts, Crusaders, Cromwells, Grants etc, as I expect them to be added nonetheless. It’s the vaguer aspects of the Commonwealth I wanted to talk about; the weird, wonderful and the diverse.
Mid War Doctrines
I think the mid-war should be largely inspired by the North African Campaigns, centred largely on the 8th Army and utilising the huge variety of cultures that fought within it. Extra bits can be added from the Italian campaign where the faction is lacking, and the Italian campaign can also be represented in the ‘Temperate’ skin for the mid-war faction. There are a lot of inspirations one can draw to create a variety of options for the Commonwealth player and each doctrine should draw from their unique aspects.
All-Round: Inspired by the Desert Rats, the 2nd Battle of El Alamein and Operation Crusader this one balances the various aspects of the other doctrines while keeping it unique. I’d like to see the Infantry include British Desert Rats Infantry, 2nd New Zealand Infantry, & 1st South African Infantry. I’d also like to see South African Marmon-Herrington Armoured Cars (multiple variants) as an early-battle option, plenty of the more common tanks and maybe the Bishop as a slow but mobile artillery piece. As a special call-in, we could probably include the Free French Legionaries as a powerful assault unit, just to really complete the variety in this division.
Defensive: Inspired by the Siege of Tobruk, this doctrine should primarily represent the Australians. Variations of the Australian 9th Division troops as infantry alongside minor British elements with a heavy emphasis on field engineers, emplacements and field guns. Defensive doctrine could also include RAF Regiment infantry, RAF 20mm Oerlikon guns, RAF Rolls Royces, India Pattern Carriers (from the Indian 18th Division), air strikes and, as a special unit, they could even have captured Italian tanks from the 6th Australian Division Cavalry Regiment! As a defensive doctrine, they should also have access to the best mid-war field guns, including the rare (but historical) ’Pheasant’ 17/25 Pounder Field Gun.
Offensive: Inspired by the Battle of Tunisia and Operation Torch, I think this one should show off the might of the UK’s heavier vehicles in the latter stages of the African campaign, particularly the Churchill III, Sherman III, the Priest 105mm and the Stuart Command Tank, alongside the more standard British tank options. As for infantry options, we can include Indian troops of the 4th Infantry Division (India), Gurkhas, and a motorised unit of 22nd Guards Infantry. I would also add the British Commandos in this division - partly because they were involved in Operation Torch, but also because they had an iconic impact on the mid-war (outside of Africa) that it would be a pity not to add them.
Irregular: This one would be quite unique in mid-war as it is effectively the light vehicle special forces doctrine. Although some standard British units would form the basis of the army, they would have access to a variety of assets representing the Long Range Desert Group; Chevrolet trucks with mounted Vickers MGs, Boys AT rifles, twin 303 Brownings or even Bofors and captured 20mm Breda guns! ‘Bamtam’ jeeps with twin Vickers Ks or 303 Brownings. The transport and logistics would be different too, using the Marmon-Herrington 6-ton Heavy Truck or the White 1064 10-ton. Other unique special call-ins would include an LRDG WACO Recon plane and the SAS (armed with the Lewes bomb). The downside to this doctrine, however, is that imagine it to be much lighter on armoured support, relying mostly on towed guns for its heavy firepower.
Other Units: I’ve tried to use inspirations from specific parts of the war to get a rounded but also diverse array of units, but there are loads of obscure units across the mid-war that I’d love to see; the Priest 105mm SPG, the AEC Deacon Gun Carrier, the Daimler Dingo, the Humber Light Reconnaissance, and so on.
That is as much as I want to say on mid-war without labouring the point. I’m sure there’s interesting things I’ve missed accidentally, and I’m afraid there’s some I have missed on purpose. For example, I considered the Australian Matilda Hedgehog, but it turned out to be late war and never used. I also considered the Greek and the Czech Division, but I think I’ve already stretched it too far as regards voice acting alone without adding units that, as distinguished their service might be, are just too obscure without adding anything extra - appearance or gameplay. That said, my hat would go off to the devs if they achieved that.
Late War Doctrines
Here we get to represent the Commonwealth units from Operation Overlord up until Operation Varsity.
All-Round: The quintessential British doctrine, combining bog-standard infantry with hardy tanks and a decent array of equipment. Partially based on Gold Beach, but also Operation Varsity/Plunder towards the end of the war, I would personally give them 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry, RAF Regiment Gunners, RAF Humber Light AC, Churchill AVRE, the Cruiser Mk. VIII Challenger and the Comet. Maybe give them some 6th Airlanding troops and 1st Canadian Parachute Infantry as a reference to the Normandy paratroopers if we feel they need more skilled infantry.
Offensive: The Canadian Doctrine - mostly inspired by the First Canadian Army in Normandy with elements of their experiences later on (including the Battle of the Schelt and Operation Veritable) with the doctrine largely focused on armoured assault infantry. They’ll look quite unique compared to the British because their uniforms were greener and they were the first to use the British-designed Mk.III helmet at D-Day. Troops of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division as standard, supported by assault infantry. Eventually, armoured infantry can spawn in Buffalos (used at the Battle of the Schelt) and, as a special call-in, Ram Kangaroo APCs (sporting an armoured MG turret). The Otter armoured car would be an early call-in, with M4A1 Sherman Grizzly tanks as well as Ram IIs available in the standard tank tab. Some unique but limited special call-ins would include the Skink AA tank (of which 2 saw historical combat in Normandy) as well as a skilled sniper wielding the Ross rifle.
Defensive: Just as the US Defensive doctrine features the 101st Airborne (no doubt inspired by the Battle of Bastogne), the British Defensive doctrine can feature the British Airborne - particularly based on the defense of Arnhem Bridge in the Netherlands as part of Market Garden. Infantry units can include the 52nd (Lowland) Infantry, 1st Airborne Paratroopers, 1st Airlanding Infantry, Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers and 1st (Polish) Independent Paratroopers (who are distinctive with their grey berets). Armoured units can include the Tetrarch and the M22 Locust. To suit their defensive doctrine, they should get some decent guns and I’m thinking the airborne jeep-towed 20mm Polsten Gun, airborne 17th Pounder as well as (in a departure from the Parachute theme) the BL 7.2-inch howitzer. The Patchett sub-machine gun could make an appearance here too.
Irregular: Based on Sword Beach, Commandos and the 79th Armoured Division, with the more unusual units in the British arsenal. Probably with 3rd Infantry Division Infantry as standard, this unit could have access to No.41 (Royal Marine) Commandos, Fusilier Marines Commandos (based on No.4 Commando’s assault on Ouestreham), the Centaur Mk.IV QF 95mm, the Sherman DD, the Churchill Crocodile and Royal Engineer Assault Teams deployed in the cute Terrapin 4-ton Amphibious. If we want to be really wacky, we could even add the M3 Grant CDL (an unarmed searchlight tank) for armoured spotting, similar to the 150cm Flakscheinwerfer searchlight.
Other Units: Further unique units that would fit in any one (or multiple) of these divisions (based on balance) include the Land Mattress Rocket Launcher, the Loyd Carrier, the Universal Carrier WASP (flamethrower), the Sexton SPG, Sherman Firefly, the Archer TD, Achilles TD, the Priest Kangaroo, the Morris C8, Staghound and so on. There are SO many strange and obscure British vehicles that don’t often see the light of day, but would be perfect for Gates of Hell.
Post-release Doctrines -
More of a final thought than anything else, but if/when the Japanese get added into the game, I’d love to see a fifth doctrine to represent the British 14th Army to match the Japanese. A doctrine that is mostly comprised of Indian infantry and Indian tanks, with representation from the East/West African Divisions, Gurkhas and the British 2nd or 36th Infantry Divisions. Special call-ins could include the Chindits (using Thompsons and the Jungle Carbine) and paratroopers of the 50th Indian Parachute Brigade. If we’re feeling generous enough to allow the doctrine to encompass the Pacific Islands as well, we could also include an Australian squad armed with the Owen SMG, South Pacific Scouts, the Matida Frog (flamethrower) and the Matilda QF 3-Inch.
Conclusion: I apologise for such a long read. But I hope we see how a bit of ambition could really help the Commonwealth stand out and be worthy of the variety seen in the other factions since their overhaul. While the Germans have Spanish soldiers in their ranks, the Commonwealth can see the UK, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Poland, and France (and technically Nepal) all get some recognition. While the German Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe stand out on the field, the Commonwealth might get the distinctive blue battledress of the RAF Regiment, or the long white tunics of the Foreign Legion. We would see such a variety of hats including pith helmets, berets, kepis, dastars, keffiyehs and slouch hats. Some units, like the LRDG vehicles, might even stand out as unique from any of the nations already in the game. It’s a lot of colourful uniforms, a lot of voices and a lot of strange and wonderful machines.
However, it does come with its downsides. Firstly, Africa and Europe are such dramatically different theatres that their version of mid & late war are incredibly different to one another. So much so that the depth of variety might make the faction too big, making it a lot of effort for the art department (especially with uniforms changing for the map’s climate. Imagine making skins for temperate, desert AND snow). The second issue is whether France is getting its own faction in future iterations of the game (the French flag appears in the loading screen during Axis vs Allies games). The final (and probably biggest) issue is voice acting. I’m no expert on games development, but I gather that getting enough voice actors for a faction is hard enough as it is without having to accurately represent 9 countries at once. I would love to hear the developer’s thoughts on the matter - whether such a project is within the game’s scope and if they have the ambition to take it this far.
Do let me all know what you think as well.

2024.05.14 17:10 revolution_twelve I am the product of my mother's confidence birthing me would end the cycle of trauma. 31 years later, and I want to die. Don't make the mistake of thinking being a good parent is enough.

I had a good mom, a single parent who sacrificed much for me to give me a childhood full of positive memories. Even though I was raised as an only child in a single-parent household, outside of what I guess is a normal amount of frustration that comes from homework and school bullies...it was fine. My childhood was fine. I felt loved. My home was safe.
My mother died 16 years ago, almost to the day. In a twist of sardonic fate, it was on mother's day, that year that she passed. And it was there that my CPTSD began, at fifteen years old, with the series of family members and family "friends" that I ran away from home from or escaped to. Emotionally abusive, manipulative, truly unempathetic wastes of flesh that opened my eyes to nothing besides that the world is a vast, venomous pit full of snakes and liars.
I posted two years ago about wanting to die, and the comments here encouraged me to keep going. I pressed on, spent even more money, but finally found myself in a situation that was better than I could have dreamed, and started to heal. A whole year I got, having peace, feeling creative again, making small progress on my health, having hope.
A month and a half ago it all went to shit in a way so specific to me and my struggles that it feels as though some unseen entity is stalking me, ensuring that I suffer just enough to continuously generate it despair to feed off of. I guess hope just exists only to make the pain that much harder when it vanishes. At this point I no longer believe it is possible for me to keep trying to find what I need, and I'm done. I'm sick of trying, sick of being ill. I can't keep pushing myself, I can't keep allowing myself to hope just to get disappointed, to put faith in a universe that clearly has it out for me to only torture me, to prevent me from stabilizing my life and moving forward on all of the hopes and dreams I've carried and sat on in the hopes I could survive long enough to bring them to fruition one day.
I'm so, so tired. I have given life almost everything I can think of. There are still technically options, but I don't have the inner resources to access them. I simply cannot. I don't want to do this anymore. Even a cancer diagnosis would have been easier. Sadly, I'm being evaluated for that, too.
I'm writing a fanfiction with a friend, promised her I'd finished it, but I'm hanging on by a thread. A human can only go for so long, can only try so much before they just throw up their hands and give up.
I see so many people on here convinced that they won't pass their trauma on to their children. That they will do the work, that they won't abuse them, that they will make sure they are loved. And that's a laudable goal. My mother was raped, emotionally abused my her own mom as a child, beaten by previous partners, and despite all this, I know she loved me, and I appreciate her. It did not negatively effect her parenting me.
But she wasn't the only human in my world. And even if I had no other caregiver, even if my environment had been supportive despite her death, anything can cause CPTSD. Not just a parent's lack of love. Siblings. Abusive partners. Cruel bosses at work. School bullies. Displacement. Being perpetually poor. Spending decades lost in chronic illness.
This might be controversial, but I have to say my truth.
Being a good parent is not enough to stop your child's suffering. And when you bring them here, in the this world of endless madness and unequally distributed trauma, remember that that's what you risk. Their pain, their misery, their anguish, their desire to die, and even, eventually, their very death, caused by factors entirely out of your control. Do not bring a child here unless you are sure you can live with this reality. Do not bring a child here if you are not prepared to feel guilty.
This isn't a suicide note. But in three months when my friend and I finish this fic, I can't say with confidence that that will any longer be true. I read u/f1nal-exit's post. And then I took a break, waited a few days, and read the comments. And it became clear to me then, that the people who care can't help me, and the people who could help me don't care.
My mother birthing me was the cruelest mistake of her life. I wonder how she would feel now, knowing the daughter she birthed no longer has desire for little more than to die.

Hey there! I apologise in advance for the rather long post. I just wanna supercharge my PC some. GPUs are expensive and I've been looking at the ASUS RTX 4090, but I'm honestly thinking to prep everything else and improve it and wait for the 5000 series, potentially. The usual issues, some framerate drops, dips, stutters here and there. Also tired of how hot the AMD seems to run. I just want to future-proof my PC and give myself a little treat for my upcoming birthday. I want a very strong CPU and from what I've read, the i7 should more than handle that. I assume an i9 is overkill.
I don't know much about MoBos, but I wanted a new, high quality one for the future Intel CPU, that can accommodate the usual RGB stuff and that would have enough ports in the back to match the current MoBo (yes, even the surround sound ports...). Speaking of the CPU, that's one of the main things I want. Supercharge the performance, lower the temps. Checking the stats on the currently selected MoBo, I see it has more NVMe slots. I have two of those. An Intel 660p Series 1TB PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 that runs Windows and a Samsung 980 PRO with Heatsink 1TB. Checking the MoBo, I really like the look, design and features. I see there's an extreme version with a nicer RGB screen, but I assume it's not worth the pricey premium for more eye-candy.
RAM-wise, I am drawing a bit of a blank, as all I know is I want 32, or even 64 gigs, fast speeds, the new stuff that's made for these MoBos. I've gotten hooked on the RGB stuff, but I don't know much about the speeds and qualities of these new ones. Corsair seems like a safe bet, although I've seen at least two that appear rather similar in performance, but varying in price.
Cooler-wise, I posted my case here to figure things out. My current AIO is sitting on the top bit, it's 240mm, I'm pretty sure. So the question there is if my choice is okay. Do I need 280mm? Would 240mm suffice? Alternatively, would it be better to get a front-facing one that's three fans? My issue then would be that all the intake for the entire PC would be through that AIO radiator. Case has the original fans in, pretty much, just with the added cooler on top. Should I go for some new thermal paste? I have this 4 gram Arctic MX-4 that I've used a bunch, bought in 2019. I am honestly starting to feel as if it dries out quickly, or doesn't conduct as well? Nothing visually wrong with it when applying it before, as far as I can tell. It just feels that my CPU has started running hotter for no good reason, recently. I am not ruling out just the dust build-up, since this case feels a bit more "open" and is due some internal cleaning.
Sort of a TL;DR here!
I posted the PSU, to make sure it could handle all this stuff, on top of a potential, future GPU. I would hope so, since I specifically chose the Seasonic to futureproof that angle a bit. So... lots of questions, I suppose! Are my options good? Quality-wise, ports, etc. Are there better alternatives? I wouldn't mind cheaper stuff, of course, but my focus right now is in treating myself, providing performance, quality and stability. So, trying to figure out if the current parts list is good. Would that MoBo work with my port requirements? Would it play nice with my two NVMe SSDs? Cooler. Is it good enough? Should I go for a front 3-fan, or just keep it as a fat 2-fan? Should I grab some new thermal paste of some kind? Good quality and RGB options? CPU good enough to handle anything at current and future levels? RAM, what should I go for? 32 gigs, 64? Requirements are speed, RGB and potentially futureproofing the build some.
I want to thank all you potential readers kindly for checking out the posts! Basically, advice on parts, quality, money, placement in PC! And thank you in advance for anyone that chooses to engage and offer advice!

2024.05.14 17:07 FistofDavid New to Python - Not understanding passing something to an argument

Hello! I just started dabbling with Python and came across a script on Github that I want to try. The issue is it requires me to pass the location of a source file as well as a location to place downloaded files and I'm not quite sure how to do this. I've tried different things like attempting to define variables in different ways, but no luck as I'm consistently getting syntax errors or what I've done is not defining it properly. The script is the following and the Github states to pass the source file as the first argument and the download location as the second argument. Would someone be able to help me understand where this should be defined and how to do so? Again, very new and inexperienced with Python and I get that this is probably advance for a beginner.
#!/usbin/env python

2024.05.14 17:07 flibbertygibbetted Barely There

Barely There
I am 32 and I've been aware of my PTSD since I was about 17. Prior to that, I knew I had depression and anxiety. I have been in and out of therapy since childhood. Currently, I'm on some medications which do seem to help. Nevertheless, I am struggling against the current many days, feeling irritated and afraid of how dark/evil I believe myself to be. I don't want to hurt anyone, and am extremely careful to not offend others. But, I don't feel safe enough to connect much with anyone. Even my girlfriend of three and a half years, who I live with, still is liable to disappear at any moment, in my mind, because I can't fully internalize that she actually loves me. Or, I frequently feel backed into a corner like a wild animal, imminently about to be maimed or killed. There are no allies. Only danger.
Most of the time I coast through life, keeping to myself, focusing on my special interests to keep me entertained or distracted. I am aware of IFS and the potential to do more work on my own. Meditation and journaling are also there as potential tools. But, like many people, I am currently unable to afford therapy, or even a psychiatrist right now. I have so much medical debt from the last few years that I have to take what I gained from that period and work with it on my own.
I am troubled by this angry, defensive creature which contorts me in awful ways and isolates me from others. The depth of grieving still to do, as well as the fundamental damage done to me from a young age, means that I lower my expectations and am satisfied with having a roof and food and a job I can manage.
But I know that I am still a broken person.
I hope I can become so broken that the human gives up and something else takes over. Maybe that's happening all the time anyway. I don't know. But I know I am terrified and this creates a fight-or-flight response, when I'm not frozen or fawning. I seldom stand my ground from a place of centered compassion. I have those goals. But it's just an idea to me, most of the time.
Sorry to rant, but thank you for reading.

2024.05.14 17:07 ThrowRAReindeer665 Temperature settings causing serious tension 42F 50M. How do we overcome this?

I am looking for some other perspectives on a recent situation in my '40F' marriage to '50M'.
For starters, his mental health has been a struggle in recent years. He has reached out for help medically and is seeing a physician. They seem to have come to some conclusions that his issues could be stemming from being on the spectrum. Unfortunately, this seems to have become his go-to excuse for everything now.
I personally believe that his daily marijuana consumption and online browsing have a much larger mental health impact than any diagnoses, but I am not a medical professional.
We have not been doing well relationship-wise lately stemming from an argument that began after I confronted him about being glued to his phone at a family function and when we returned home, he immediately ran to get high despite other household responsibilities being neglected first, leaving them to me to do.
He proceeded to tell me that he has a hard time caring about me in general and that he "is done" with me. When I asked if he intended to leave our home, he said he was not in a place mentally to make that decision, but doubled down to confirm that he did mean what he said. This, understandably, has left me feeling very sad. For context, we have been together for 24 years.
One of his major arguments for the last few years that seems to be causing the most friction is the temperature in the house. For context, I work from home and he does not. When the furnace is on, it is set to 18C. Otherwise, the windows are open until it gets humid outside and the AC gets set to 19-21C depending on the time of day. He is constantly complaining it is too cold. My suggestions of wearing a sweater, socks, pants, etc. are met with hostility. I bought him an electric lap blanket and he has an electric blanket in his bedroom (we have separate rooms now because I sleep with the window open). He also has set up an area in the basement with a baseboard heater.
I am now being told that I "don't give a shit" about his comfort because the rest of the house is not to the temperature of his liking and I am at my wits' end. If the room he enters is not to his liking, it can result in anything from generalized complaints to full blown toddler-style tantrums (slamming doors, screaming, throwing objects).
I guess I am looking for perspectives on the temperature issue. I feel like if you have tools/locations at your disposal to be the temperature you require, you should use them and act like an adult, but he says I'm unwilling to compromise.
If you're read this far, thank you. You're a champ!
TLDR Husband thinks I am a terrible person because of my temperature preferences. Looking for perspectives. Am I a lousy wife in this context? I have been very understanding of his mental health challenges, but I do feel they are being used as an excuse for his inflexible behaviour both in this instance and others. Has anyone else had a similar experience? How did you overcome it?

Stochastic Oscillator – How does it work and how to use it in trading?

What is the stochastic oscillator?

A stochastic oscillator chart allows you to identify momentum in the price of a financial asset. At the core of this indicator is the stochastic oscillator formula. What it does is compare the closing price of a security with the recent high and low prices. It then converts it to a figure between 0 and 100, which is the actual value of the stochastic oscillator.
Let's say you talk to two traders independently and ask them what the stochastic oscillator shows. You will most likely get two very different answers. On the one hand, the stochastic oscillator is an indicator of both up and down momentum. On the other hand, some traders may see it as an indicator of overbought and oversold prices. Both explanations are correct in theory. The fundamental difference lies in how you use the indicator within your investment strategy.
https://preview.redd.it/75cd3582pe0d1.png?width=623&format=png&auto=webp&s=7f594c2024beede3d8096e690387ae660095b242
There are other factors to take into account. One of them is the period during which the low price and the high price are taken. You will need to research the ideal indicator settings for your particular trading method. Are you happy to opt for a flatter long-term trend? Alternatively, would you prefer a more sensitive short-term indicator that could alert you to short-term trading opportunities?
A brief history
There is some debate about the origins of the stochastic oscillator. Especially the %D indicators which we will cover later in this article. Many believe that C. Ralph Dystant was the original creator of the indicator. However, George C. Lane is perhaps more commonly credited with playing his role in popularizing it. The latter also introduced several tweaks and adjustments.
We can trace the stochastic oscillator itself back to the 1950s, when C. Ralph Dystant taught courses on the stock market. In these courses, his original focus was on commodities. The classes were one of the first to focus on charts, moving averages, and other indicators as a means of attempting to predict future price movements. By the way, George C. Lane supposedly started working for C Ralph Dystant in 1954. That was the same year that technical “guru” Roy Larson retired. It was a coincidence?
It would be fair to say that both C. Ralph Dystant, and George C. Lane, were integral to the creation of the stochastic oscillator indicator and the influence it still has on investors today. In many ways, the key to its success is its relative simplicity. The masterstroke introduced an easy-to-understand range between zero and 100. In the words of Kelly Johnson, former principal engineer at Lockheed Skunk Works, “keep it simple, stupid.” Many traders today refer to this quote as the KISS principle, because in English it would be “keep it simple, stupid.”
How does the stochastic oscillator work?
Now let's examine how the stochastic oscillator works. We'll also see how quickly you can adjust the sensitivity of the indicator. The basic concept behind the stochastic oscillator is momentum. It gives you the ability to monitor the price momentum of an asset. Doing so allows you to see if, compared to recent highs and lows, you are potentially oversold or overbought. However, therein lies a potential conundrum.

A simple example

What if we look at the S&P 500? The E-Mini S&P 500 futures contract is among the highest volume assets in the futures market. What will its momentum show us if we look at it? Imagine the example of shooting a rocket into the sky. It will not stop suddenly and return to earth immediately after running out of fuel. The fading momentum will continue to push you higher at a drastically decreasing speed. However, when the positive momentum finally ends, the rocket will spin and head toward the earth. As a result, you gain new momentum along the way. This is the idea behind the stochastic oscillator. Using the recent highs and lows, for comparison, you should be able to identify a change in momentum. That result should also be reflected in the graphs.
There is a general consensus that when stochastic oscillator levels fall below 20, it indicates that the asset is oversold. Meanwhile, if it moves above 80, that indicates that the asset is overbought. Let's take 50 as our average value. In theory, positive momentum is above the line, while negative momentum is below it. Although this is often the case, you should be on the lookout for potential false signals. Now let's go ahead and take a look at the ways to read and understand the Stochastic Oscillator indicator.

Stochastic Oscillator Formula and Calculation

In this section, we will look at the stochastic oscillator formula. We'll also point out which elements of the formula you can adjust to change the sensitivity. The formula is the following:
C = the most recent closing price
L14 = the lowest price traded during the last 14 trading sessions
H14 = the highest price traded during the last 14 trading sessions
%K = the current value of the stochastic indicator as a percentage
To give a practical example of how the indicator works, we will look at the S&P 500 index. This is the figure on which the E-mini S&P 500 futures contracts are based.
Current level = 3490
Low point in the last 14 trading sessions = 3300
High point in the last 14 trading sessions = 3500
The calculation is as follows:
3490-3300/3500-3300 = 190/200
(190/200) x 100 = 95%

Example

So, according to the Stochastic Oscillator indicator, the S&P 500 Index has strong momentum and is in possible “overbought” territory. Many people would classify this as the standard stochastic oscillator indicator calculation based on 14 trading sessions. However, what does the situation look like based on eight trading sessions?
Current level = 3490
Low point in the last 8 trading sessions = 3400
High point in the last 8 trading sessions = 3500
3490-3400/3500-3400 = 90/100
(90/100) x 100 = 90%
Finally, what indication does the calculation with a 30-period moving average give us?
Current level = 3490
Low point in the last 30 trading sessions = 3200
High point in the last 8 trading sessions = 3500
3490-3200/3500-3200 = 290/300
(290/300) x 100 = 97%
The shorter the period in question, the more sensitive the formula will be to daily movements. The reason is that the difference between the maximum and minimum point should be relatively small, in theory.
In the three examples above, the S&P 500 index has strong momentum for 14 and 30 days. However, it is noticeably lower if you only look at it over 8 days. And, on the other hand, they all indicate a potentially overbought scenario.

How to read stochastic oscillator charts?

Next, let's take a look at two stochastic oscillator indicator charts. We will highlight some of the turning points that could have been beneficial for traders. The first chart is the traditional (fast) stochastic oscillator indicator with a smoother %D trend line based on the %K factor.
https://preview.redd.it/vzf6c7wfme0d1.png?width=1377&format=png&auto=webp&s=512182433e3783fa53bcf9fad33fbc81b5a40bef
The second chart is what we call a “slow stochastic oscillator indicator”. It averages the index level over a longer period. Then we have the %D factor, which is based on the %K and gives an even smoother line.
The longer the period over which prices are examined, including high, low and current prices, the smoother the chart will be. However, there will be a significant delay. On the plus side, in many ways, this can help offset the short-term peaks and troughs that can sometimes tempt people to buy and sell when they shouldn't.
https://preview.redd.it/b7k655aime0d1.png?width=1420&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee2a182215d415eb4e5f7b8e528b81247e601a2a

How to use the stochastic oscillator?

The key to using the stochastic oscillator is finding the time frame that best suits your investment strategy. Those looking for short-term trading will focus on relatively short periods, which can lead to somewhat volatile changes in the indicator. Those looking for confirmation of longer-term trends will extend the period in question. These graphs will be smoother and, due to the long delay, are not as susceptible to short-term changes.

What are the best and most accurate settings?

There are three variables to consider when looking at the stochastic oscillator setup, which are:
%K = based on the number of time periods used in the calculation
Slowdown = simple moving average (SMA) factor applied to %K
%D = %K moving average factor
As we mentioned earlier, the stochastic oscillator has three different types. Among them are:

The Fast Stochastic Oscillator (Traditional Indicator)

Fast %K = basic %K calculation for 14 periods
Fast %D = Fast Stochastic Oscillator Three-Period SMA %K

The slow stochastic oscillator

Slow %K = Fast %K expressed as three-period SMA
Slow %D = Slow %K three-period SMA

The Complete Stochastic Oscillator

%K full = %K fast smoothed over a period X SMA
Full %D = Full %K Period X SMA
The beauty of this system is the fact that all previous variations of the original indicator produce figures from 0 to 100. As a result, it is easy to compare and contrast the variation in the trend lines. The longer the periods in which you calculate the simple moving average, the smoother the line will be.
As we mentioned above, the simple fast stochastic oscillator will throw up many possible overbought and oversold positions. Some of them will inevitably be false signals. As you can see from the charts above, the Fast Stochastic Oscillator can be quite volatile, frequently trading above or below the 80 and 20 levels for a short period of time. On the same chart, you can see areas where the %D (SMA figure) is not as volatile and does not always fall below or move above the 80 or 20 levels like the Fast Stochastic Oscillator does.

Trading strategies with the stochastic oscillator

There are many ways you can use the stochastic oscillator indicator to open positions, close positions or even reduce your position if the chart is at a critical point.

Identifying overbought/oversold levels

As you will see in the chart below, there are a variety of very useful indicators that could have generated some significant gains. The first overbought indicator shows the Fast Stochastic Oscillator figure reaching the 80% level and then turning sharply downwards through the three-period SMA. These crossover points are considered by many to be strong indicators that momentum is shifting and the short-term trend may be about to reverse.
The second overbought position begins to emerge when the Fast Stochastic Oscillator and the SMA move above 80%. A move above 80% or below 20% should not necessarily be seen as a signal to sell or buy, but rather as an early warning that momentum may be about to change.
https://preview.redd.it/3taqkc2kne0d1.png?width=1912&format=png&auto=webp&s=e7a55840fdae584d81ebe937210f3b3fe70ecb32
Many people prefer to wait for a sustained drop below 80% or move above 20% before reacting, thus eliminating a degree of volatility that can sometimes create false signals. This is where SMA lines can be very useful, smoother and less volatile, although you won't necessarily sell at the top due to the lag.
You can also see the two false overbought signals where the Fast Stochastic Oscillator figure and the SMA fell below 80. However, they reversed quite quickly when the momentum picked up again and the chart moved back into higher territory.
You will find that where there is a strong uptrend, which has not been broken, at some point there will be a pullback which can be an opportunity to buy into the weakness. This is the reason why the fast stochastic oscillator is more appropriate for day traders, or also for short-term traders.
Bullish/bearish divergence
There will be times when there is a bullish/bearish divergence between the actual chart and the stochastic oscillator indicator. As you can see with the chart below, the lowest point on the chart would indicate the possibility of a further decline. However, when you look at the stochastic oscillator indicator, the trend is moving in a different direction and is slightly bullish.
This may be an indication that the stock has bottomed and momentum may be about to change. One of the main signals to watch out for with this particular chart is the fast stochastic oscillator moving through the SMA line.
https://preview.redd.it/rku5zd2joe0d1.png?width=1087&format=png&auto=webp&s=e6583cea6a63f18ed49327c4f626a39608b9e016
You are equally likely to see a reversal where the main chart indicates an intact uptrend, while the stochastic oscillator shows a slowdown in momentum and a turn towards a downtrend. These are some of the rarest trading signals, but they are very interesting, especially when you incorporate simple trend lines into price charts.

Price trend

The relationship between the Fast Stochastic Oscillator and the SMA is very important. As you can see in the chart below, the first section is dominated by the strong downtrend with the Fast Stochastic Oscillator and the SMA descending in parallel.
Then there is a bounce on the chart followed by a move into choppy waters with an obvious downtrend. As you will see, both indicators remain below the 20% level, indicating that the momentum is relatively weak. That is until the Fast Stochastic Oscillator breaks the SMA line towards the end of the choppy price action area.
https://preview.redd.it/v5d3gkatoe0d1.png?width=520&format=png&auto=webp&s=caa386e1e0e6979fc9210fe18c06c0e3acb9738b
This change in momentum is demonstrated by the uptrend, although it is not difficult to see where the momentum begins to fade above 80%. When the short-term trend line breaks through the SMA and falls below the 80% level, this indicates another change in the trend – a possible sell signal.

Advantages of using the stochastic oscillator

Momentum is very important when it comes to trading and there is no doubt that the stochastic oscillator indicator is a very useful tool. There are a number of advantages to consider which include: –

Sensitive to impulse change

The shorter the period during which the high, low and current price are compared, the more volatile the stochastic oscillator indicator will be. Using SMA trend lines can also create very strong buy/sell signals when the lines cross, especially above 80% and below 20%. This event would indicate that the short-term trend is changing and assuming it continues, a new trend will follow.

Opportunity to identify bullish/bearish divergence

Due to the way the Stochastic Oscillator indicator is calculated, you will sometimes see a divergence between the price chart and the indicator. While the price chart may indicate that a downtrend is still intact, the stochastic oscillator chart may already be identifying a change in momentum before the price changes. As you will see in the chart above, these can be powerful trading signals. How long you can wait to see if a new trend emerges will vary between traders. How brave are you?

The formula is flexible

The shorter the period in question, the more volatile the stochastic oscillator indicator will be. However, there is the possibility of identifying short-term trading opportunities. However, for those who have a longer-term investment strategy, they can extend the number of periods in question. This will flatten the line of the Fast and Volatile Stochastic Oscillator and give a smoother line, which can make it easier to identify any changes in long-term trends.

Risks and limitations of the indicator

As with any technical indicator, the stochastic oscillator is not immune to false signals and is probably best used in conjunction with other trading indicators. Risks and limitations include:

False signals

The shorter the period over which the fast stochastic oscillator is calculated, the more susceptible it is to extreme volatility. This can create numerous false signals, although the impact can be reduced by adding a simple moving average line.

Sideways Trading

The indicator works best when there is a new uptrend, a downtrend or perhaps a short, sharp period of consolidation before the trend re-emerges. During periods of sideways trading, this can create a relatively small gap between the high and low points, therefore creating sharp movements in the indicator on relatively small price movements.

SMA lines delay trend changes

Using longer periods to calculate %K and SMA trend lines can make it easier to identify changes in the trend. However, due to the delay, you may miss a significant element of a changing trend before you decide to buy or sell. You can adjust the variables of the full stochastic oscillator indicator to help you with your specific investment strategy, lengthening or shortening the periods and adjusting the SMA.

Stochastic Oscillator vs Other Indicators

The Stochastic Oscillator indicator is extremely flexible and you can adjust the periods and SMA variables to suit your trading plan. However, especially when looking at limited periods, there will be times when the indicator will create a false signal. Therefore, it is wise to consider other means of technical analysis to clarify whether a potential change in momentum indicated by the stochastic oscillator is also reflected elsewhere.

Stochastic Oscillator vs RSI

While it is true that you can use both the stochastic oscillator and the RSI (Relative Strength Index) to measure price momentum, they work on very different principles. The RSI measures potential overbought/oversold positions by comparing recent gains to recent losses. The idea behind the stochastic oscillator is based on the assumption that the current price should follow the current trend. When the current price moves against the trend, it can indicate a change in momentum and a possible buy/sell signal. So who wins the fight, the Stochastic Oscillator or the RSI?
If the two oscillators indicated the same trend, this would be a powerful signal for investors. For example, if the price of an asset moved towards the upper end of its recent high/low range, it would indicate positive momentum. Assuming that the RSI oscillator is also showing a relatively strong trend, this would reduce the chances of a false signal.

Stochastic Oscillator vs MACD

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) is a prominent momentum indicator, although it is very different from the stochastic oscillator indicator. The MACD is calculated by subtracting the 26-period exponential moving average from the 12-period exponential moving average. Many traders use the MACD technical indicator in conjunction with the stochastic oscillator, often looking for crossover points between the two.
Those who consider technical indicators from a distance might wonder why traders don't simply use three, four, five or more technical indicators together. The answer is simple: the time lag between different technical indicators can confuse the situation.
By the time several different indicators have “aligned”, you may end up missing the vast majority of the trend. There is nothing wrong with using a single technical indicator, but there are risks and false signals can and do occur.

2024.05.14 17:05 DayAggressive4841 Honoring Parents Podcast Thoughts

This one is personal for me because of some dynamics with my in-laws, so I was very hesitant about this episode. If you have been in the trenches with truly toxic family, proceed with caution with this one. Here we go…
As someone who has quite literally broken myself in order to adhere to keeping relationships with toxic family members, I cannot in good faith put my child around them. It’s my duty to protect his heart and mind. So Milena, if we’re to be shepherds of our children’s hearts, why put them in a knowingly dangerous situation with truly sick people??? I won’t allow generational trauma to continue to my babies. That’s all. Tell me what y’all thought.

2024.05.14 17:03 Miss_Pipip Balance Dark Powers

I am a first-time DM and I'm running CoS with the MandyMod extensions. I wanted to customize Dark Powers for my players. For now, I have thought of two taking lots of inspiration from the resources in the server, but I'm not sure if they are balanced to each other. You may think the boons are too powerful or the banes are too much, but I like them that way. I know my party and, if I don't offer super cool things, they won't entertain the Dark Powers and I want them to! I am only interested in your opinion on whether these two Dark Powers offer similar boons and banes.

EZELYN, THE RADIANT STAR
- Phase 1:
o Gain the ability to use Warding Flare. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (a minimum of once). You regain all uses spent when you end a long rest.
o When you roll radiant damage, you can inflict maximum damage instead of rolling. You can use this ability twice per long rest.
- Phase 2:
o You can cast Lightning Bolt (radiant damage) 3 times per long rest.
o If the creature dies from Lightning Bolt or the turn immediately after you use Warding Flare, you regain a number of hit points equal to your Paladin level + your Charisma modifier.
o Your eyes begin to give off a glow that causes them to give off light for 5 feet.
o Bane: Anxiety to protect others (Flaw).
- Phase 3:
o Because of the divine glow you give off, a +1 is added to your Charisma score.
o Guided by your god, you can make a critical hit on a 19 or 20.
o You gain advantage on Intimidation rolls.
o Your body begins to glow with light of its own and you give off bright light 10 feet away and dim light another 10 feet away.
o Bane: 1 point of short-term insanity if power is not used (does not heal with long rest). 1 point of exhaustion if used. Due to the light you give off, you have disadvantage on Stealth rolls.
- Phase 4:
o You gain the ability to cast Flame Strike three times per short rest.
o If you kill a creature using Flame Strike or Lightning Bolt, you regain one use of the spell.
o Your attacks always do an extra 2d8 radiant damage.
o Your luminous aura increases and you give off bright light 15 feet and dim light another 15 feet.
o Bane: 1 point of long-term insanity if the power is not used. 1 point of short term insanity if used (does not heal with long rest). If Ura uses Warding Flare, she makes a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. If she fails it, all creatures within 30 feet of her take 2d6 psychic damage and hear Ezelyn's voice in her head saying, "All must be purified". A creature within 15 feet of Ura must make a Dexterity saving throw when coming within that distance of her. If it fails, it is considered blinded.

ALASTOR, THE SPARK OF CHANGE
- Phase 1:
o When you roll fire damage, you can inflict maximum damage, instead of rolling. You can use this ability twice per long rest.
o You learn Burning Hands and Hellish Rebuke. You can cast them using your spell slots. These spells are always ready for you and do not count against your limit.
- Phase 2:
o You can cast Fireball 3 times per long rest.
o You learn to anticipate your opponent's attacks and turn an enemy's missed hit into good luck for you. When a creature makes an attack roll against you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on that roll. If the attack misses, your next attack roll against the creature has advantage if you make it before the end of your next turn. You may use this trait once per short rest.
o You gain a +3 to your initiative.
o Aesthetic: You begin to warm the air around you, you don't feel the cold.
o Bane: Your eyes and mind go too fast to process information and you develop dyslexia. Any time Jasper attempts to read or write, he must pass a DC 12 Intelligence test.
- Phase 3:
o The speed with which you handle situations gives you advantage on attack rolls against any creature that has not yet taken a turn in combat.
o If the creature dies using Burning Hands, Hellish Rebuke or Fireball, you regain a number of hit points equal to your Rogue level + your Dexterity modifier.
o You gain an extra 10 feet of speed.
o Aesthetic: Your fingertips begin to turn black, as if burned.
o Bane: You can't sit still for more than a minute, your impulsiveness increases. 1 point of short-term insanity if the power is not used (does not heal with long rest). 1 point of exhaustion if used.
- Phase 4:
o You gain the Stalkers Flurry trait. You can use this trait twice per short rest.
o You gain the ability to use Immolation twice per short rest.
o If you kill a creature using Burning Hands, Hellish Rebuke, Fireball or Immolation you regain one use of the spell.
o Aesthetic: Burns cover your entire arms and a red flame begins to glow in the centre of your pupils.
o Bane: 1 point of long-term insanity if power is not used. 1 point of short term insanity if used (does not heal with long rest). When you inflict fire damage on a target, roll a d8 and take that amount of necrotic damage as the fire rages and sears your flesh, destroying it from within.

So my question is, are they balanced to each other? What would you change? Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 16:59 Hi_My_Name_Is_Dave Help optimizing points for a Hilton wedding

Hey All!
I’m planning on getting married at a Hilton property later this year, and the costs are likely gonna come out to around ~$50k. I’m wondering how I can best optimize this.
I currently have an Amex Plat, C1VX, CSP, CIP but I can open something else (open to business cards) as I’m 4/24 and my Fiancee can act as a P2 if needed. I can get Hilton Elite Gold with my Plat.
If I were gonna go for a non-Hilton option, I’d probably open a couple of Business Plat/Inks and just fish for the SUB. Chase points would be great but wouldn’t mind MR either.
But does anyone know what the best way to optimize this is? I called Amex and they said an event would not code as a Hilton purchase for 14x on the aspire. However I’ve read data points here stating the opposite. Is there something special I need to do?
Additionally, on the Aspire with diamond status, I’ve seen those DPs say that they don’t give you the 100% diamond bonus. Does anyone know if there’s a way to make that happen?
A Chase Ink Preferred would get me 250k UR. A Business Plat would get me 400k MR. I’m gonna be getting 100k Hilton points anyways, so is it maybe better to get the 850k (plus 100k plus the free night for spend) Hilton points from opening an Aspire for 14x?
If anyone has DPs or advice I would much appreciate it. Thanks!

Introducing Gated Interactions on OmniFlix.tv
We're thrilled to unveil a game-changing feature on OmniFlix.tv: Gated Interactions
https://reddit.com/link/1cru6h4/video/vmzdipz2pe0d1/player

What are videos with Gated Interactions? 🤔

A first in web3 media.
Gated interactions refer to interactive videos that require NFTs to access interactions (check https://OmniFlix.tv to understand what interactive videos are).
It's a unique feature that transforms how you engage with your audience. While anyone can watch your videos, only specific NFT holders can interact, making engagements exclusive to your community or any collaborating creators
When you gate your interactions, your media or video can be watched by anyone but interactions are exclusive to your community (or communities that you collaborate). This exclusivity is provided by using on-chain data, NFTs at the moment.

With gated interactions, use your videos to:

✍️ Build exclusive campaigns & quests for your community
🤝 Collaborate with other creators
✅ Increased utility to NFTs that are already minted
✋ Combat Spam: (IP nor any personal data isn't tracked by http://OmniFlix.tv but this is the use of public/on-chain data to prevent sybil attacks)

Explainer video 🎬

This helps you as a creatocommunity builder to create interactive videos that are gated 👇

2024.05.14 16:53 dBonesLH Spring Horror Reviews feat. Buehlman, Cutter & More!

Hi Horror fans! I am back with a few more reviews. I normally try to mix up the new and the old the classic and the atypical when I can. My success varies depending on which books call to me. Let me know what you think!
Lowest reviewed to highest.
Survivor Song by Paul Tremblay
Premise- A new rabies virus is running rampant in Massachusetts and Nats is running out of time. Almost ready to give birth and exposed to the rapidly advancing virus she needs help before the baby arrives or she succumbs…
Thoughts- This book almost broke my DNF record. It has been a long time since I gave up on a book and this was close. If it wasn’t a relatively short book (around 300 pages) I don’t think I would have powered through. I disliked one of the main characters throughout (Nats) finding her grating and her attempts at humour embarrassing. It also employs just about every cliché ever put into the apocalyptic or outbreak genre and then makes it worse by being self referential about the cliches. Then towards the end the other main character who I didn’t mind as much becomes so selfish (I understand she’s trying to help her friend but come on) that she willingly endangers a busload of people just for her own ends. All of this is without delving into the awkward and awful kid “slang” Tremblay employs for about 50 pages in the middle of the book. My wife really enjoyed the audiobook for his A Head Full of Ghosts so I will probably try that before writing him off as an author who is not for me but he has a really difficult hill to climb after this. A final thing to note much of this book even when action was occurring felt plodding and slow somehow which I can’t even wrap my head around because rabies infected people chasing down our main characters should be exciting but I could barely keep my eyes open.
Rating- 2/5. Not a 1 because I finished it. Do not recommend. Read any other apocalyptic or outbreak book The Stand or Swan Song comes to mind.
Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
Premise- The Black Death ravages the French countryside and evil lurks behind every corner. A former knight turned brigand encounters a young girl who is more than she seems. Can he find redemption? Does he deserve it?
Thoughts- This is another horrorlit darling. I actually picked up Buehlman’s fantasy novel The Blacktongue Thief first in anticipation of this this novel because it was the only novel of his available at my book store. I enjoyed that and appreciated the author’s humour and dark side. This novel came with a lot of hype as it has to be one of the most recommended books in this sub. The premise of a medieval horror which features demons and devils was incredibly appealing and my wife and I decided to read through it at the same time (her on audio). We both found it pretty underwhelming which I know might be controversial. It’s strange because its well written, I enjoy the characters and the setting but somehow it did not gel with me. The best way I can describe it is it felt almost like a horror show with say 22 episodes. Like most shows with 22 episodes a lot of them are filler or freak of the week episodes and that is how a lot of the middle of the book felt to me. We would travel along with Thomas and Delphine, they would encounter something strange and remarkable (occasionally horrifying) and move on to another area where another strange or remarkable thing would happen. It felt oddly disconnected. Now I need to talk about the ending which didn’t redeem my feelings about a large portion of the book but it was my favourite thing about this novel for sure. It ends in a fantastic way and encapsulates what I think the author was going for throughout the book but didn’t land for me until the end with themes concerning sin, redemption and second chances. This might be the definition of a book I appreciate and can see what others love about it but didn’t register with me for large portions. That ending though, so good.
Rating-3.5/5 stars. An interesting setting for a modern horror novel let down by some meandering adventures which caused it to lose me somewhat before ending on a high note.
Little Heaven by Nick Cutter
Premise- Three hardened mercenaries team up for what seems like an easy job, rescue a woman’s nephew from a cult down south. What it turns into is a fight for their lives which will haunt them down through the years and will make them wonder if they ever really escaped Little Heaven?
Thoughts- My second foray into the work of horrorlit darling Nick Cutter. I enjoyed The Troop and found it suitably disgusting and chilling to earn the reputation it has in the wider horror fan annals. I actually think I prefer Little Heaven overall. One of my biggest gripes with The Troop was its lack of meaningful characters and many of them felt like stereotypes and while some of the characters in Little Heaven fall a little into that category (the Reverand in particular is just a straight black heart) the main group were all well realized in my opinion and despite their obvious shortcomings I came to root for them. Cutter per usual is a master with description, creeping the reader out with every mention of things slimy, crawly or looming. In this book he has included some pages of art which further the atmosphere and really burn some of the images into your mind (one rather tall character in particular). I enjoyed the back and forth between the two timelines, one during the initial trip to Little Heaven in the 60’s and the ugly return in the 80’s. It had almost an It like feeling of needing to overcome your fear when you know what is awaiting you but finding the courage decades later to face it regardless. Similarly to The Troop, Cutter doesn’t give us the Hollywood happy ending either which I enjoy, you get your elements and take what you can from such an evil place. Without going into spoilers there were things about the ultimate confrontation which I disliked (mostly the reveal of what is within the black rock itself) and things which I enjoyed a lot (the ultimate fate of one of the main characters). I think that I have now read what I would consider his two most applauded books I can move onto the one which splits horror audiences in half, The Deep. Overall though Cutter writes horror that really is a page turner and I will continue to read him until he proves otherwise.
Rating-4/5 stars. Another fast-paced creepy jaunt evoking elements of Heart of Darkness (and modern horror takes like Children of Chaos) and the two timeline split involving children obsessed evil like King’s It, Mr. Cutter continues to impress and make it his own.
Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff
Premise- The sun has gone dark and the great empire of Elidaen is at war. Not with their neighbouring countries but the great unholy horde of undying monsters that make up the vampiric kingdoms. Gabriel De Leon will learn what it means to survive and battle against these creatures on his journey to becoming a member of the Silversaints, the great brotherhood of warriors who try to keep the darkness at bay.
Thoughts- Let me start by saying that putting this into my horror reviews is a little of a stretch. This is really more of a dark fantasy book with horror trappings. If you just want straight horror and are not into fantasy as a genre maybe give this one a pass, but if you do enjoy fantasy even a little please check this out. It is epic in scale with fantastic characters and really fun dialogue. If I am being reductive it is like 70% Witcher, 20% Blade and 10% Interview with a Vampire. I happen to enjoy all three of those things quite a bit so I loved this book. The story bounces between three time frames, the framing story in the “present” where Gabriel is imprisoned and telling his life story to his vampire jailor, his origin story taking place when he is around 16 telling of his upbringing and becoming a Silversaint and finally him as a 32 year old on a quest for the holy grail. Kristoff does a really good job at least early on keeping the reader engaged on each story as they bounce back and forth and I never felt too much like I needed to go back to the other time line even though I was always interested in what would happen next. There was one sequence which dragged a little for me (basically the sequence going to and time in Redwatch) but it is a minor gripe in a hell of a book. I am very excited for the sequel which should be out in first half of 2024. This book looks from the title and cover a little juvenile but it is very adult (many brutal murders, battles, amusing and creative cursing and a fair bit of the sexy stuff) so do not be scared off by appearance alone. A definite recommend from me. I could see some people finding the dynamics and themes well trodden from other recent media as mentioned Witcher and things like The Last of Us, but the world and characters Kristoff creates makes it work despite the familiarity.
Rating-4.5/5 stars. A brilliant start to what I hope will be the and amazing vampire series.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patick Suskind
Premise- Jean-Baptise Grenouille is born with a unique ability, the most extraordinary nose of all time. He can remember, store and create any scent he wishes. To that end he “collects” as many as possible and aims to create the greatest perfume known to mankind. Unfortunately, the best scents that he wishes to capture for his perfume comes from virginal teenage girls and he will take their odour no matter the cost….
Thoughts- I prepared myself for this book based on comments from fellow readers by expecting it to fall into the more distinguished “literature” side of the horror genre. It did but it still surprised me with the directions that it went in. I was expecting more focus lets say on the murders themselves and Suskind does such an amazing job detailing the inner workings of Grenouille’s mind that when we finally get to that part of the book we absolutely understand why they are not really the focus of the novel but merely a means to an end. The descriptions of odours are amazing and a few times I felt myself almost gagging at some of the images Suskind conjures with his prose. I am not a prose person but he does a wonderful job detailing scents in a way you would never think of. The journey Grenouille goes on is utterly unexpected and fascinating. You truly get a strange insight into this broken creature and why he is doing what he is doing and how ultimately the murders mean nothing to him but a way to capture or collect his perfume which is his ambition. The last few pages erupt into a madhouse of defied expectations just when I thought we would have a fairly basic ending Suskind pulls the rug out once again. It also really underlines how animal humanity can be and what we can be reduced to based on our senses.
Rating-5/5 stars. A truly unique novel which defied all expectations. Very different and easy to recommend to horror readers who want something out of the ordinary.

2024.05.14 16:51 akaCDub03 GPU Trade in question

I have a Gigabyte Eagle OC 4080 that is black I recently switched cases and MB in my system and now want to purchase a white 4080 Super GPU. My question is am I reading thru the terms right on the Newegg trade in where if I send my GPU in for trade they can basically say it's worth less than the amount posted and I have no recorse afterwards but to accept it. So basically instead of 800 if they say they are giving me 450-500 I can't deny the amount and am stuck paying the difference no matter what?

2024.05.14 16:48 Loud_Skirt_7421 What's my type?

I am new to this mbti and enneagram stuff, but I did look into cognitive functions a bit but I still am not sure which fit me, it might be because I am still pretty new. This is mostly a hobby for when I am bored and want to think, because I like to play with outside systems like this.
• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.
I am 16 years old, male , just your average quiet teenager that sucks at introspecting and wants to look cool to others yet does nothing to impress others (other than looks)
that sounded oddly specific.,.....
whatever
• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
not really, not that I know of..
• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
I grew up in a poor family (duh), then just like your average adult couple they divorce, usually I'd stay a lot with my mother and she would teach me about morals which I now see some as stupid but either way I kind of "took" her morals and my dad's too. Kind of had to grew up early and take care of my smaller brother by substituting being a dad , and I have a lot of influence over my brother , and we would switch places a lot but the only comfort I had was in games, interacting with others on the games ,making fun of others and overall having a good time being accepted
• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
At the moment I have no job, I do karate and I could teach others but I don't have the stuff necessary like: a place to train others, I am not at the highest level yet, customers and this is mostly the main things.
But I would really like to continue on this path of gym and karate since I already have an edge and kind of be under someone's wing to help me
• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
Mostly depends, on my mood sometimes I despise being alone and feel miserable being alone with my thoughts(and is mostly why I spend a lot of time on my computer despite not wanting to do so) or if the people in my circle kind of make me have a bad time then I would want to withdraw and get my energy back , usually I am very loud after I get comfortable with the other person and know what they are capable of
• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
Like I said above I do Karate , I recently reached the brown belt ( YIPPPIE me) and me and the outdoors have a bad history but as of now I prefer to have a balance of both but mostly I would like to focus on real life things, especially when it comes to careers
• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
I am not too curious of stuff that is deep , it makes me feel miserable, but usually I get random questions sometimes and it makes me search , but not too deep into it just enough to have the idea cause I see no point in diving deeper. Usually when I even get these questions is from either talking out loud or just looking around me so it's mostly environmental (I think not too sure of this)
• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
The only time I like leading is when I have knowledge and know I am the best to do it, if someone else is better then I'll let them do their thing but usually I wouldn't fully obey them I would kind of give some counter-arguments if there is room for some.
Even when I lead, others do listen to me and usually I am confident in doing it, kind of like that one quote of Sun Tzu:" Go to war only if you know you will win" , which my friend told me recently.
As for the style not too sure what it would really reference, but I would say I think of people as cogs in the machine
• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
Not too sure what to say on the "coordination" part but I for sure love working with my hands, especially when I cook for myself or others, and like I already mentioned I do karate so of course I like practicing with my hands improving my technique
• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
no I am not artistic at all , I don't really look into it at all since I don't consider it worthwhile but as a kid I did like drawing cause I was good at it and I got recognition for my drawings from other classmates and that would fuel me to make me like drawing cause the teacher liked it, others too and yeah.. Untill it kind of stopped receving the feedback and such
• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
I don't like to think of the past too much , especially when I think of myself, it's mostly negative things but I try to see the bright side of what I've achieved and such, because I wasn't healthy (even now I feel like I am not healthy but it's clearly better), I used to be chubby kind of fat , and before getting into karate I did handball where we trained physical condition and other things , and we had to do sit ups but due to me being fat I couldn't and others looked at me and started joking even the trainer and because of that I quit..
The present could be good but I am indifferent towards it I don't really work towards anything specific I like to remain a little reactive and eventually get help from others into shaping my future life.
And like I said I try to remain reactive of the present, I don't like planning too far ahead because it could be too early to plan and there might be more to do
• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
I don't get asked for help frequently but it's either I help the person because I see they are struggling or they asked me and it goes two ways: 1. I agree and do the job or 2. I tell them "no" and go back to what I was doing (eventually feeling guilty I didn't help but I don't like being used for other's advantage)
• Do you need logical consistency in your life?
Yeah , it's pretty important people shouldn't only run on feelings but kind of fit some systems into some kind of framework, not really think about it 24/7, but make sense of it that is how I like to do it.
Even with this system of cognitive functions I try to understand it but sometimes it's a bit too abstract, I prefer more practical examples to fully understand the idea behind it
• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
Not too much but not too less, usually I prefer it to not be feeling sad that I am "closed off somewhere" and not doing something, isolated from the world , especially with no computer atleast to go on the internet and joke around and chill with others(but of on a common task or else I will mind my business).
But I strive to be efficient in what I do over time , even if it's for a game that is pointless
• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
Simply no, I never was able to do this exactly , well maybe after I get to know the person a bit and see what they could do.... but I am not.
Also just read what controlling others mean , and I could see myself taking charge and just doing everything myself....
But I still feel like I don't, but I can see how I could, but I won't because I don't have the skill and it wouldn't be good
• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?
Well probably just ,out of boredoom, playing games but not a wide variety which gets boring quick but familiarity bias is a thing.. and doing karate which energizes me almost everytime and anytime even if I don't feel like it and force myself. I just like when it goes well with others it and being liked by others, energizes me
• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
To be honest I didn't really pay attention to how I learn I just learn to get good grades in school and make it, yeah not too much here but I struggle with things that don't really add up to me or I don't see the logic behind
Usually I don't need explanations from the teacher I kind of tend to see the logic behind everything mostly without asking much information since some subjects have systems that are easily to juggle with(like math but I sometimes struggle with calculating in my head)
• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
I try to simplify strategizing, yes having a plan in depth is good but people for sure won't like if you are gonna stick to one rigid plan , which is why you have to make it kind of like a team thing even if I do make a rigid plan I try to make it sound simple and to the point based of data that others and I know, even making decision off the data my group knows
• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?
Probably to feel happy I achieved something and doing something in the outside world, eventually influencing others
• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
Mostly personal stuff , and emotional situations, my emotional inteligence is bad and I am bad at emotions too, atleast handling the emotions of others, but sometimes I try to let them vent to me and help them a bit and try to be empathetic even tho I don't show it too much, mostly I show it through acting tho
• What do the "highs" in your life look like?
Positive outlook on life, relationships are well but I don't worry about them too much unless there is an obvious problem and really liking to hang around others, and especially having something going on for myself
• What do the "lows" in your life look like?
the first thing that comes to my mind is: withrdawn, melancholy and just starting to critique everyone in my head but not really telling them, yeah sometimes I may start bluntly joking about other's and stuff and even situtations, I try to poke fun and when it kind of fails I feel like withdrawing from others since it doesn't work Melancholy litteraly makes me feel miserable about everything, mostly makes me feel depressed. I do tend to feel it often but I try to supress it trough doing things, like playing on the computer , youtube and such (everyone does this to some extent)
• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
I find myself daydreaming when bored and not really anything is going on but I do tend to be mindful of what others do in case they try to harm me...
But even if I daydream it's mostly about what everything could have been, kind of like what I could have done or what I could do and how it would end up/ ended up, but it does happen quite a lot
• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
Not too sure if I would ever get there but thinking out loud here so , probably about some random stuff in my head unrelated to my situations untill one thought hits close to home and I go into some deeper stuff , and usually when I get deeper into things I tend to feel miserable, my friend (who is INTJ btw) said that my negative depressing thoughts that I hate match the thinking of the philosophy of "Nihilism" which is kind of true....
• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
I try and not stay too long on it but sometimes I might run back and forth if I am not too sure, but I try to stay decisive , because being indecisive a lot is bad..
• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
I kind of look down on emotions , yes I feel them but I just tend to ignore and repress them sometimes, but I vent to closer friends from time to time, but this is mostly because my parents would misinterpret my emotions...
My mom would just over moralify everything and bring it to a stupid extreme which is unrelated..
and My dad would just make fun of them , but sometimes he would give me spot on answers which are exactly what I need
• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
Not really , even if I do it's in a way to shut off the conversation, because I don't like having conversation with no point
• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?
I don't really mind rules , but I don't pay attention to them too much(because no need to worry if you don't go out of your way to try something that could count as "breaking the rules") mostly to the general ones which could punish you very harshly but overtime they could be exploited and I do that when I am confident I won't be caught or it won't punish me
I also took the mbti test from Michael Caloz site (I saw people doing this one a lot so I figured I might give it a try for this post :D)
statistics of functions
the top result (followed by ESTP and then ESTJ, in that order)
I saw other posts also mentioning this, and I figured I would too
I took this test a bit rushed cause I needed to do something..

2024.05.14 16:48 Bigdogsz19 33 [M4F] #Allen #Texas - Seeking new connections of all varieties

Heya! These posts/introduction messages always feel awkward and forced for me 😅 so buckle up 🤪…
Let’s get what I’m looking for out of the way, as no sense in taking up more of your time if it’s obvious that we aren’t a fit.
What I’m seeking:
As of current, my primary interests align most with a FWB situation, but I am open to any form of connection that develops organically between us (including simple friendship). I’m relatively open with regard to availability, though in an ideal world you would be open to seeing each other 1-2+ times a week. I’m attracted to a wide range of personalities and body types, so it can be hard to relay my interests there and is usually best just to connect and see if we click or not. I guess in the end, I’m pretty flexible in my interest and desires.
It’s also important to note that I do not smoke or drink at all. I don’t judge if you do either, but I will say that being around cigarette smoke is likely to be a dealbreaker for me. As for weed, I hate the smell, so I just ask that you please avoid smoking it around me. Vapes are fine, just please don’t blow them in my direction as I personally don’t care to breath that in. Alcohol I have no problem being around in all capacities lol get plastered for all I care.
A bit about myself:
It’s always hard to gauge what to share to the world in “bios” like this..I’ll try to highlight some of my most prominent characteristics and details 🤷‍♂️.
Let’s start physical. I’m 6’7”, definitely a dad bod with a bit of a stomach, 33 years young, long brown curly-ish/wavy hair (admittedly facing some male pattern baldness at my forehead hairline, so doing what I can with what I’ve got while I can 🤷‍♂️), brown eyes, wear glasses (if that matters to you at all), maintain a beard at all times (take the hair where I can, right? 🤪🤷‍♂️), and wear a size 19 shoe (putting that out there as it’s always a shocker 😆). No, I never played basketball for any teams growing up, but did play pickup games often after high school. The weather is just fine “up here” 🤪. As for style, or lack thereof 😆, you’ll likely always see me in some form of graphic or plain T-shirt with likely some form of shorts (I love the cold and hate being hot) year round, though every now and then I’ll change it up with pants and/or pollos 🤷‍♂️. I want to be more stylish tbh, but I don’t have the eye for good style, I’m colorblind, and often don’t feel other styles would suit my looks 🤷‍♂️. Speaking of looks, standard bearded Caucasian nerd looking dude lol, though when people see me, they might be quick to assume I’m the standard white conservative Christian type, when in reality I’m far from such (curse the genetics and looks I was born into 😭).
Kink friendly, so any questions or curiosity around such please feel free to bring up and discuss with me further.
I think that’s a good start on physical attributes, let’s move on to the internal ish…
Gah this section is much tougher to fill out 😅. Look, I just love just about everybody, will generally give everybody the time of day and benefit of doubt, can strike up a convo with just about anyone (though sometimes I need the other person to engage the start of that convo 😅), and would do my best to help and protect anyone around. I just want the best for everyone, ya know? I’d say i lean more extroverted, but do battle a moderate amount of social anxiety that im sure you’ve picked up on by now..you’d likely think im more introverted with how often I stay home and how little I randomly reach out to friends/others. It’s not that I don’t love getting out and about and don’t care to talk to my friends, I just get so caught up in my day to day life that it just doesn’t cross my mind, OR I get social anxiety (especially if I haven’t spoken to someone in a long time, I always worry they think I don’t care about them and our friendship).
Beyond this, it’s hard to list my other qualities, so I’ll just move on to interests and maybe that’ll help highlight more?
My Interests:
Can’t help but feel kind of boring and basic when filling out this section 😅. I feel like it’s a lot of what most people list as their interests and that my list is small/limited/boring. Travel Culture/language Food Music (very large and eclectic taste in music) Gaming of any form (video, board, etc) Puzzles/challenges/sports (I love a good challenge, so huge kudos if you are competitive) Technology (always fascinating what we are making in this world) I’d like to learn to dance but right now I’m very self conscious about my terrible dancing (I feel awkward 😔)
Disinterests: Low hanging ceiling fans and light fixtures 🤪
Details regarding my current Poly configuration:
I’m happily married with one child. If I do take on any new partners I never expect you to take on any form of relationship or responsibility for the rest of my family beyond just maintaining a safe space through proxy. My wife and I practice kitchen table Poly, so we are completely open to everyone happily interacting together, but if you aren’t comfortable interacting with the rest of my family no problem! Ask if you have any further questions on how we Poly ethically, happy to answer any questions!
Anyways, I’ve made this long enough…if you’ve made it this far, thank you so much for taking the time to read my post to entirety! Even if we aren’t meant to connect, you and your time are greatly appreciated! Sending my warmest regards and a friendly virtual hug ❤️.

2024.05.14 16:47 Neat-Adhesiveness109 They share a chess piece!

They share a chess piece!
My theory was confirmed. This is from the previous chapters but this Queen he is holding is definitely Chuuya (considering the art from the chapter where Dazai gets Chuuya back)
However, Chuuya is still a black queen and not a white queen so... I don't think Fyodor is going give up on whatever he was planning to do with Chuuya.
But with that tripolar singularity and strategically talking, I think he is trying to lure out another powerful duo.
Shin Soukoku. Since Soukoku is currently away from Yokohama, another possible threat to his plan is Shin Soukoku.
I think they are two horses, powerful against the tripolar singularity. If Dazai and Chuuya are unbeatable(Black queen and white king) Atsushi and Akutawaga are unstoppable (not sure but Atsushi is a white horse and Akutawaga is a black horse)
But this seems to be nothing more than a distraction. This doesn't seem to be Fyodor's original plan.
But in chess things are like this.
The player is forced to move the pieces, risking losing them.
But Fyodor has an advantage against Dazai: he doesn't seem to see his pieces as people.
While Dazai choose to trust his pieces and considering the explosion caused by the creation of the tripolar singularity, it will damage Dazai's defenses.
And Dazai's emotions too.
Dazai said that Fyodor doesn't trust anything he cannot control, so Fyodor with his ability can control his pieces by becoming them.
Fyodor seems to be taking a different approach since Dazai took Chuuya his queen, from him. So Fyodor created a new queen, not powerful as Chuuya it seems, but enough to distract the horses.
I had my doubts about Shin Soukoku defeating the tripolar singularity, but since they seem to be two horses, the queen is extremely vulnerable.
So yeah they will defeat this tripolar singularity.
For now, Dazai and Chuuya cannot do nothing. Their hands are tied and Fyodor basically successfully trapped them in France.
Again I don't think this was Fyodor's initial plan, but Fyodor was not really worried.
Because it didn't matter what Dazai choose to do, he was always going to win. If Chuuya was a vampire, he was going to kill Dazai but even if he wasn't (what happened) Fyodor could always run away like he did.
So Fyodor is currently at advantage.
I don't think Dazai or Chuuya will die (Fyodor considerers Chuuya as a powerful piece too) but there will be damages, emotional and physical.
Oh and we have that storm that will come.
A storm is something that you know it will happen but you have no idea when it will happen.
That sounds like Chuuya (reading SB there a clues about this 'moster who will destroy the world).
But it will take a while...
What are your thoughts?

2024.05.14 16:46 meat_fuckerr Ratings do nothing unless they are direct, immediate feedback

Dear figdev. Reviewing a whole conversation is not as valuable as reviewing a block of text, or multiple blocks.
In character.ai, you can review each message and give immediate feedback. I had chats where a rating box pops up almost immediately, and some where it never does. What feedback do I give after 2 sentences, and it even covers the text so I can't review. What is the point? I just spent hours trying to coax, guide, trick a bot into being friends and it was idiotic, hostile, and obstinent. "What do you mean you rescued me? What do you mean you're not hostile? Where am I? What do you mean you're with corporation x?"
Aside, what is the fix here? Rewrite an entire conversation as a primer, playing both roles, until it's gears mesh and it half comprehends it's part?
And when all else failed, God came into chat and said "sorry you're unwell, let me fix your brain damage, bwoop", it seemed to comprehend, relax, switch to the long form paragraph format of the new model then say something so stupid it was almost a religious experience. It said, to paraphrase, "thanks but I'll betray you if it serves my interests" are you fucking serious, while you're in fucking custody? And every iteration went the same way! Just keep hitting the double arrows, oooh I'm gonna betray ya.
This ain't a rant about a shit dumb bot. They're all half dumb. It's a rant that you want us to teach your AI, but we can't, if we can't flag HERE IS WHERE ITS FUCKING STUPID. HERE. MAKE THIS AN ANTI PROMPT. Like, I'm trying right? I saw genuine beautiful potential when the NextGen model rolled out, and it feels absolutely awful talking to last Gen.
Thanks for reading

2024.05.14 16:41 prettybadatreddit Medication for senior boston terrier with anxiety, reactivity, possible sundowners, atypical cushings, and recent cervical surgery.

I'm not sure if this is the single best subreddit to post this but upon google search the medications I searched for came up here a lot. Anyways, I have an almost 14 year old boston terrier. He is most definitely reactive. He has a whole host of other issues as well. He has suspected sundowners as he gets very agitated and barks in the evening, worse than the day. He also has general anxiety. He also has atypical cushings. He recently had cervical surgery for a herniated disk. That is important because he started trazadone during the pre and post surgery. Prior to his disc issues he was taking: 100mg gabapentin as needed for pain or as a sedative 0.5 mg of Xanax as needed (usually evening) 15mg Selegiline every day Mitotane one day a week for cushings melatonin and lignans every day for cushings
Pre and post surgery he was one a heck ton of pain meds and other things. They added the trazadone to keep him calm. Now that he is mostly pain free he is not on the pain meds. We brought up with primary what we can do to keep him calm since he can't have as much activity out of risk of re-injury. They suggested adding Prozac. Their current recommendation is to do: Prozac 10mg once a day Selegiline 15mg once a day Xanax 0.5 mg every 6-8 hours
They also said I could give trazodone on a situational basis. The idea of Selegilline and Prozac together is concerning? I've read that is not a good combo? But maybe it's okay? He would also continue the meds for cushings. I hear of serotonin syndrome and I don't know how common it is. I have been hesitant to start the Prozac because Trazadone has seemed to work the best but I know it may not be the best long term. BUT, he is almost 14 and he has never shown his age as much as he has the last few months. I've heard Prozac can take a long time to work and can make things worse before they get better. We've been through hell the past few months and I am scared.
Because of his reactivity and risk of injury we don't go for "normal walks". I have a treadmill that we walk on. I have a fenced in yard for going potty and roaming around. We just have to be careful for neighbor dogs making noise and or bunnies/squirrels. He can't play with most toys because he gets aggressive with them. What I have done is kongs and other puzzle toys with peanut butter and treats but he gets them all so quickly and just barks and barks. I can't give unlimited pb and treats!
Does anyone have experience with this medication combos?

2024.05.14 16:39 a1ainf MC therapist wants us to talk about the relationship, not my trauma.

I’m posting to hear opinions of couples who are happy with their MC and can honestly say it helped them to navigate the R after infidelity. BH experience is most welcome but if you’re a BW or Wayward, go right ahead too.
——
We’ve been going to this particular MC for over a month now (5-ish sessions) and the therapist seems nice and definitely has the tools to help marriages, I’m just not sure she’s equipped to deal with infidelity.
Today we’ve had a particularly difficult session. I was explaining how I’m trying to improve as a husband and partner but dealing with what my trauma cooks for me, consumes a lot of the daily energy quota. And that at some point, my wife needs to be patient and caring with me, not distant – because acting distant out of her fear makes my journey longer and more painful.
Towards the end of the session I was met with a sentence that kind of shook me… therapist said that I might be focusing too much on my trauma – that the relationship is here and now, and trauma is in the past. That my quote of 2-5 years of getting out of trauma might be looking in the wrong direction.
Note: DD1 was in August where I found her affair. DD2 was 2.5 months ago – this was the final admission by my WW with all the details and past affairs (yes, plural). I’m thinking this is way too early to expect me to be in complete control over trauma, no?
We’ve had issues as a couple for many years, then the main A happened, then more information about WW surfaced, and now we have a fraction of original issues as a couple + new ones + lots of appreciation and love for each other. I think it’s easy to be caught in the immediate emotional reaction to a statement like the one above. But can this be actually true?
I personally think MC is kind of… easy (?) if you don’t have infidelity trauma – there are books just out there with so many tools and exercises just ready to be read and implemented.
What makes our situation hard is that I see all the fucking wisdom and knowledge in those books and would love to just apply it to my relationship but my trauma and lack of trust makes it this whole other level of painful and difficult. I think that’s the challenge in MC – we’re not a typical "husband and wife seeking counseling" situation, am I getting this right?
Should I expect MC to not pretend those sessions are just about the communication, the respect and trust, and tackle the issue of infidelity trauma and its effect on our relationship? How would this work, can you give me examples of the difference between normal MC and the one where therapist doesn’t lessen Betrayed’s trauma?
I’m not even mad, I’m just curious if this forum, the books and their USA-centric roots made me too optimistic that MC in Europe can behave in a similar fashion. Am I expecting too much?

2024.05.14 16:38 Arch_Angel_4070 25 [M4F] Online/Anywhere Looking for my person, anyone out there?

Okay, so here goes. I’m a 25 year old guy from the east coast and I’m out of luck on dating. I thought I’d give this a try. If you’re looking for a close connection give my post a read and let me know what you think.
About me: I’m around 5’8, broad shouldered, grey/green eyes, and dimples you can barely see through my beard. I’m a huge nerd and I’ll proudly admit that. I love Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, DND, anything fantasy/sci fi. I am a gamer but I usually prefer story games like The Last of Us or Assassins Creed, though I can play multiplayer games with my friends sometimes so if you’d like a player two I’m totally down. I’m in college for Cyber Security Technology and it takes up most my time. But when I’m not in school I’m gaming, writing, singing, and playing with my dog.
Who I’m looking for: I don’t have a huge list of specifications. I just want someone who is emotionally available and looking to make a real connection. Someone who I can rely on and who can rely on me through good times and bad. I just want a genuine and kind person. Looks aren’t a problem to me tbh so don’t let your own opinion of yourself stop you from reaching out. I think everyone is beautiful in their own way, so give it a shot. Bonus points if you’re clingy, and even more bonus points if you like to sit on call with me.
That’s about it, just hoping to find the one for me. If anyone out there reads this and wants to give it a chance I’d be more than happy to get back to you. Just send me a DM and we can chat. Looking forward to hearing from you.

2024.05.14 16:37 Blindmama847536 My long tonsils story, need some opinions

Ok... sorry for the novel, but I really wanted some opinions.
I have enlarged tonsils since I am a little girl. I remember my pediatrician telling my mom something like: "Hmmm in a normal case I would remove them, but this poor girl is always at hospital so let's give her a break if it doesn't cause her problems. Just put a humidifier in her bedroom."
I never really thought my tonsils were bugging me, cause I never made a link til recently between my tonsils and frequent throat infection, soar throats, etc. I only had one real tonsillity in my life.
In December 2022, I caught a cold that never wanted to go away. I got antibiotics near Christmas and they made me bleed like crazy. Sorry for the details, but I was literally spitting some chunks of blood, could play with them like Playdoh. I felt like I was spitting some parts of my body. It lasted like 2 days. I seriously thought I'd have to go to hospital but didn't cause it stopped.
Since then, I didn't stop having problems. I went to em so many times and our ems are just so stupid in Quebec. They were watching me 30 seconds (no joke), saying I had asthma, sinusity, bronchitty, or nothing at all... never the same diagnostic, no scan or real test, and prescribe me antibiotics, pumps and sprays that never worked. And I always followed the treatment correctly like they told me, like a good little soldier. I had a constant headache and couldn't breathe properly.
After almost a year of not feeling good, being depressed and very persistant suicidal thoughts (I even wrote a suidide letter to my kids and boyfriend), I finally decided to go to a private clinic. I had a scan and the lady told me I had a maxillary chronic sunisity. For the first time, I felt like someone was listening to me and wow, that was good. I had a septoplasty, which did help a lot my breathing but didn't solve the entire thing.
Now, the problem seems to really be more in my throat and I really begin to wonder if my tonsils could be the issue... I feel like my tonsils became bigger with all the antibiotics I took in 2022-2023. I still can swallow, but it is not as fluid as before. I really feel like an animal is stuck between my nose and my throat. I can spit some little pieces but the feeling of having somebody living in my throat never disappear. lol Constant post nasal drip, pressure all over the face with variant intensity during the day, throat aches with variant intensity. I really feel like I want to spit something big and thick, but it is too far between my nose and throat to get out. Like a part of me that wasn't there before. Also, it makes me sound more nasal, which I absolutely hate. I am totally blind so my voice is like a reflection in a mirror and now I feel like a part of my face is burnt, if you know what I mean...
I don't think I have real tonsils stones since I heard tonsils stones were hard. But every morning, I spit chunks of thick mucus. I feel like I cannot spit everything cause it is too thicnk and too far from my nose or throat to be spittable!!! I snore a lot when I sleep too.
The funny thing is that some doctors told me my tonsils were realllllllly big and some others just told me: oh they are just a little bigger than normal, nothing to worry about... I know they are also cryptic.
I mean, maybe the problem is not my tonsils... I just want to find what I have exactly.
I know you are not experts, but what do you think of all this? Do some people with tonsils problems experimented the same symptoms?
Thank you to the 2 people who will read all this!!! :)

2024.05.14 16:37 jhaze442 Drug addict step uncle being dishonest about my grandfathers will

I'd like to start this off by saying I have little to no knowledge on how wills and estates work. I am trying to find answers on behalf of my mother and will try to keep this as straight forward as possible but I am extremely overwhelmed and could really use some help
*I would like to include before people think I'm just after money.. I want nothing, not a dime. My mom has cancer and this money would quite literally change her life, and even if she received nothing, she just needs the closure to be at peace with the situation.
TLDR: Crack head "step uncle" is executive my grandpas will and is being dishonest
I live in Ontario, Canada. My dear grandpa passed away 1year and 10 months ago. Up until I was 16 he had no contact with my family, I reached out and we started rebuilding...10 years go, we formed a great bond. He then said he was in the process of changing the will to include my mother, brother and myself (as previously we were not named.)
Fast forward, my Grandpa started to get sick and mentioned to friends and neighbours that his daughter and grand children would be taken care of. He had never mentioned it to us, I never asked because I was not expecting anything. He got extremely sick and became non verbal, that being said, I was under the impression that the paperwork got done and but I don't think it did. We think the will stayed to say to leave everything to his new wife. My family and I continued a relationship with her after he passed and she ensured she was going to switch things to include us. Unforuntatley she died very suddenly less than 6 months later. I do not know what got done/didnt get done.
Everything was supposedly left to her son (for privacy reasons lets call him bob), Shy of a life insurance policy my grandpa took out on my brother when he was born.
Heres where it gets complicated. Bob is a crack addict. He was "handling" the affairs and progressively got worse. My grandpas will was in probate from June 2022 - March 2024. He has essentially strung my mom along for the past (almost) 2 years guarenteing that as soon as the probate went through he would give my mom a substantial amount of money. But giving her very limited information. It is estimated that including the house (approx $500,000) there is 2 million dollars in assets between my grandfather. I have only found this out by looking at paperwork laying around the house. I also know my grandpa had 200,000 in a hidden account from his wife and numerous stocks, mutual funds and investments.
"Bob" has said there was "next to nothing left" and only received 500,000. We haven't seen any papers, gotten any information, and he has been extremely secretive about the process. He also has mail addressed to my brother about the life insurance but refuses to give it to him. All I have is a death certificate. I read somewhere that I have 2 years in Ontario to contest this and as per my mother wish I kept the peace until today I went to discuss with bob and was threatened.
Im ready and hopefully not too late
I guess what I'm asking, Can I contest the will? How can I find out anymore information? Can my mother get anything from this? I don't have much money to afford a lawyer, are there resources I can use? How do I find out about his investments? is there anything I can do to get to the bottom of this? Where do I even start?
I'm likely missing information, its hard to all summarize. My family just needs closure. Any and all information helps, I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this. Thank you.
