2024.04.21 14:18 AdrianArmbruster On Stellaron Hunter Recruiting Lore: (a thoery)

(note: I'm intentionally ambiguous about Sam's identity here but you may wish to have played through 2.1 just in case.)

So it’s been speculated since the Sam reveal about the exact order that the Stellaron Hunters were recruited in. I've seen many surmising that Sam was first, who then recruited Kafka, and in my interpretation this doesn't seem to be the case for a number of reasons which I shall explain.

Determining the order of Stellaron Hunter recruitment:
We know based on character stories that Sam and Kafka picked up Bladie. To quote Blade's character story chapter 3:
The only thing he could sense was a splotch of crimson in his sight and the taste of iron in his mouth. His limbs were unresponsive.
— He must have died.
The monster swallowed him again, but this time, his enemy is not another person.
The imposing armor stayed quiet. He was grappled and imprisoned within those pair of arms. The speaker was the woman with sunglasses.
"Listen, I can always kill you again, otherwise I can't bring you back."
Her voice was very gentle, and even the monster inside his body stayed silent to listen to her.
"But I don't want to."
The woman leaned down and whispered in his ear. It was a deal he couldn't refuse.
"What do you people want?"
"Is there anything more satisfying than seeing how the undying die? That's what 'he' said."
The giant armor loosened its arms. "Destiny" was ahead, and he will be leaving with them.
"Listen, Bladie, loosen up."
"Listen, don't think about anything at all." He nodded. The woman walked to his side, smiling. Yet he thought her smile looked very sad.
"Maybe someone left her before they could listen to everything she had to say," he thought.
(Seems easy enough to interpret. Blade was waylaid by Sam, then detained, and Kafka gives him the offer with a little Spirit Whisper to ‘help’ him decide. Giving him the nickname 'Bladie' from minute one is pretty funny tbh. Curiously, it also seems that Kafka's somewhat pouty despite her usual suave demeanor as well. This does not line up with her having separated from Trailblazer yet, as Blade recalled them fighting together in pitched battles. I interpret this as her being aware that they'll eventually have to part ways for the Herta Station job, but that's a ways down the line. Silver Wolf isn't even on the team yet, hence...)
According to Silver Wolf's character story 4:
Clop, clop... She heard footfalls coming from above her, getting closer, closer...
One, two, three, four people.
A man, a woman, a metal humanoid, and...
She sat down, turned around, and looked around the empty basement one last time, before turning to the person at the door...
"I'll join."
The game called Punklorde ended that day.
(Also seems easy enough to interpret: Sam, Kaf, Blade, and (some other figure described only as “and …”) came to pick her up. Common knowledge at the time of SW's release seems to have assumed this was Elio himself. I suspect it’s equally likely, knowing what we’ve learned since, that this is the Trailblazer.)
This firmly puts Blade and Silver Wolf as the final two in the recruitment order.
But that's not all. Now, Kafka’s recruiting is detailed in her final lvl 80 character story. It's short but rather complicated so I'll just post Kafka’s full character story 4:
...Go to Pteruges-V and locate an abandoned building at coordinates 135:7372124, 271:6372711. Enter it. There is an untouched canned drink under the window sill on the first floor. Take it. Wait until 11:12 AM on Wednesday and place the can at the entrance of the building. Kafka will appear 2 minutes later. There is a chance she will stop to investigate the can. Then, take the chance to throw this ball at her feet. I will take over and converse with her from there.
There is also a chance that Kafka will ignore the can. In that case, just throw the ball away. You will die, but death will come for everyone. As for the future that you yearn for - I will realize it."
— Wanted Order by Destiny's Slave
Elio provided a great deal of really specific scenario-setting information. The goal seems to have been to create a butterfly effect of coincidences meant to create a future where Kafka actually listens to his proposal to join him. Most important for the purposes of my theory here: the person he gave these instructions to is kept mysteriously and purposefully ambiguous.
People seem to be operating off the assumption that Sam was the one sent to recruit her, especially since 2.1. If true, this would make Sam the ‘first’ Stellaron Hunter. However, elements of the scenario seem to point away from this:
1) Sam says that Elio’s instructions for them are always very brief and laconic. Elio’s instructions for recruiting Kafka are incredibly complicated, again, all to set up a very narrow window where she’ll actually listen to his offer.
2) Elio’s instructions to his messenger should Kafka not listen or not accept the recruitment pitch is ‘she WILL kill you. Rest assured I’ll ensure your desired future comes to pass after your death.’ This also has two problems: First, Sam’s wish for the future (as far as we know) seems to be to live free of crippling illness or otherwise live a life of meaning and purpose - not something that can be achieved posthumously. Second, and let me qualify this by saying that I'm Kafka's strongest soldier - her biggest fanboy you ever will see – and Sam DOES have lightning weakness, BUT: I think it’s a tall order for Kafka, even with Spirit Whisper and a John Wick-level of physical acumen, to effortlessly trash the 12-ton Swarm-annihilating death mecha to the point where retreat or fighting back are not even listed by Elio as potential options available to his messenger. With Sam there'd at least be a fight of it!

Who, then, if Sam is not recruited yet, or at least not the one sent to recruit Kafka?
I was originally suspecting that Elio used disposable goons at this early point. But what if… he sent the Trailblazer? Having TB show up to deliver a message from Elio explaining the situation would fit TB and Kafka’s whole dynamic as ‘each other’s destiny’ - put them together early on so they fight side by side and bond, and have Trailblazer well trained by Kafka in time for Blade to recall the pair being inseparable (and Kafka being upset at the prospect of missing them) by the time he becomes a Stellaron Hunter. It makes thematic sense.
The words Kakfa uses in Letter from a Strange Woman that are most relevant to her recruitment are:
Kafka (when asking about her origin, specifically): …When Elio found me, I was in the middle of a mission... and the conditions he offered me caught my interest.
And:
Kafka (when asked about your connection to each other): One day, Elio handed you over to me. He said that if things continued to transpire according to the future possibility he foresaw, you would eventually change me and I would change you.
In other words, you and I are each other's destiny.
(I really like the way she says that last line all breathily, but I digress)
Kafka (when asked about TB's origin): You are an artificial body created for the purpose of hosting a Stellaron. From the moment of your birth, it was your destiny to receive the Stellaron at Herta Space Station. Before that task was complete, I was responsible for protecting you, as well as teaching you general knowledge, common sense, and combat skills.
Sending an untrained, defenseless soon-to-be Trailblazer to recruit Kafka mid-mission would seem congruent with the wording here. Certainly, a way to pique Kafka's interest. 'one day, Elio handed you over to me' - maybe not as neat as if she was already working for Elio and he just handed TB over in, like, an office or something. But we know based on confirmed-true answers from Truth and Lies that Kafka found Elio's offer irresistible on its own terms and she was not coerced, and we know from the character story that the messenger could not coerce her and was destined to die if the offer was rejected or ignored. If Elio's pitch was 'this messenger of mine is destined to help provide you the change in which you seek. Work for me, train them, teach them combat, and together you two will be mutually destined for each other' that seems like a very thematically-appropriate, bombastic way of getting her on board. If Kafka spurned the offer and killed the messenger? Well, that would be tragically thematic as well.

Who else could it be? Sam? Too strong to be a sacrificial lamb, even without the suit. Nameless goons? Possible, but rather... plain, especially since the Stellaron Hunters seem to be a small group consisting only of the named individuals we know now.
Likewise, TB's origins are merely ''an artificial body created for the purpose of hosting a Stellaron'' – Kafka doesn’t need to be there to find TB for that, and it sounds like Trailblazer’s an asset Elio would likely be interested in securing as soon as possible, especially if Trailblazer truly is the lynchpin of all Elio's schemes. If TB dies in the recruitment? Well, it’s a doomed timeline, Elio's plans are measured in centuries, etc.
This leaves Sam as the one whose place has not been confirmed based on info we have available, but as we know they come before Blade, it's quite easy to surmise our friendly neighborhood Swarm Annihilation Mecha comes just after Kaf. Elio's new helpers would have found Sam in some Glammoth space hulk or other ruin. Sam's pilot gets to encounter Trailblazer immediately upon being rescued/activated/whatever, giving them a past history pre-Penacony. I'm sure SamBlazer shippers will like that tidbit.

So, rounding this theory off, the order by which Stellaron Hunters were recruited is thus:
1) Elio. (FoundeBoss)
2) Trailblazer (perhaps found and/or augmented or whatever was done to prepare them as a Stellaron Vessel by Elio with his future sight)
3) Kafka (recruited by, in this telling, TB themselves with highly-specific instructions from Elio)
4) Sam (presumably discovered in a Glammoth wreck by Kaf and TB. Would seem to fit where Sam’s story is going and would give Sam and TB reasons to have a tender shared backstory moreso than, say, TB and Silver Wolf)
5) Blade (confirmed recruited by both Sam and Kafka.)
6) Silver Wolf (confirmed recruited by Kafka, Blade, Sam, and ‘…’. Likewise, Blade chaperoned on her first mission, per 'Before the Tutorial Mission Starts')

TL;DR: TB recruiting Kafka, then Kafka and TB recruiting Sam seems to make the most sense thematically for everyone involved.

第 962 + 53i 話 『The difference in Numbers』

Skull dome: Masataka vs. Joss
Left alone by Shutenmaru, Masataka has switched from being in control of his fight against Joss, to having to deal with a lot more gifters and even shinuchi as well. His feline opponent capitalizes on that and starts landing some hits on Masataka. Despite his prowess as a matial artist, the young student can't dodge everything. As long as he avoids the deadly ones, he can slowly take out the swarm of pirates around him until only Joss is left. A bit used to his latter advantage with Masataka not being able to fight back, Joss gets too confident and, while attacking, leaves an opening. Masataka doesn't miss his chance and with a powerful spinning kick, Joss is knocked out for good.
村田雄介
Masataka
Damn... This was my favourtie shirt.
wheeze Wow, I need to wheeze catch my breath... These guys are very strong. That bandit... I wouldn't be as tired if he hadn't disappeared.
Unidentified samurai shouting from afar
Fall back!! Nagarekawa-sensei is wounded!! Protect him!!
Masataka to himself
(Nagarekawa-sensei!! Let's go!)

∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺∺
Left brain, Skull dome
Kisshoten and Yamato assess Black Maria's condition. It's critical.
Kisshoten
Ma-chan. Hey, don't close your eyes. No sleeping yet. Keep them open, Ma-chan. You'll be fine. It's over now. That bastard's dead.
shouting to Zoro That bastard's dead, isn't he?!
Zoro checking Queen's body
Yeah. Very dead.
approaching the girls By the way, what was that thing?
Yamato
I don't know. I've never seen anyone like that. I thought it was one of you.
Zoro
Hm... strange...
Yamato
Kiss-chan, isn't it? Wait here. I'll go fetch「Saruman」.
Kisshoten
Who's that?
Yamato
He's our vet. I hope he isn't dead yet.
Kisshoten
A veterinarian?? Ma-chan is a woman! Can't you look for a normal doctor??
Yamato leaving
Hey! We've got, what we've got... Bye!!
Zoro
Well, I guess you don't need me anymore, right?
Kisshoten
You aren't a medic, are you? Then no, we don't need you.
Zoro
Good luck.
Kisshoten
Yeah. Thanks. For nothing. That katana almost gets me killed seconds after taking it! Had I been the least bit faster, it would have been me who had been split in two by that thing.
How can you go around carrying that?? You're a public danger!!
Zoro surprised
Oh, could you feel it?
Kisshoten angry
Can you not?! That blade is cursed!! It doesn't matter how sharp it is, it won't end well for you.
Zoro leaving
Heh! So I've been told. I hope, at least, you learnt not to take other people's swords without asking.
Kisshoten dismissive
Yeah, yeah, get lost already!

Zoro leaves the two women and tries to find the stairs, any stairs actually, to reach the roof. As soon as Zoro is out of sight, Kisshoten hears and feels a very heavy stepping close to them.
Kisshoten as she looks
Oh, no. Not now... Ma-chan. Ma-chan, answer.
Jūki smiling
Mumumumumu... I promised you a good time with papa Jūki, didn't I, cutie? Mumumu!!
Kisshoten
Ma-chan! Where's my sword?? MA-CHAN!!
Black Maria
It's... It's in the... inaudible
Kisshoten
So you really knew where it was!!!?? I'm gonna save you, but I'm so gekiokopunpunmaru at you right now, Ma-chan!! Please, wait for me here.
to Jūki HEY! YOU MONSTER! IF YOU WANT ME, COME FIND ME IN MY ROOM!
Kisshoten starts running and leaves through a small corridor to the brothel.
Jūki
Mumumumu... You want to play hide and seek, cutie? Bring it on! I know how to catch my women.
Muzu Muzu no Ōmukade
Jūki leaves Black Maria behind and finds a bigger passage, more suitable for him, by which trying to find Kisshoten. As he passes by the corridor Kisshoten took, giant centipedes the size of a thick snake start coming out from underneath his toenails and follow the smaller corridor.

Skull dome: Franky & Usopp vs. Sasaki & Co.
尾田栄一郎
(🎧 recommended: Spark Mandrill)
Franky
Weapons Left」❕❕
Sasaki meets Franky's bullets with his bare chest and doesn't even flinch.
Franky
Not even a scratch, huh?
(What the hell is Usopp doing?? Why's he trying to defeat his opponents with kicks?? It's the least useful move of the Franky Shōgun!)
Sasaki throws a punch and Franky catches the fist with his own. A second punch and both pirates are pushing their fists against the other.
Sasaki
Afraid of my punches?
Franky
Unable to hit me without baiting?
Strong Right: Backwards flail」❕❕
Franky shoots his right fist, linked to his arm by a chain. Still grabbing Sasaki's right fist too, the burst has the two of them spin in opposite senses. When Franky's back touches Sasaki's, the cyborg tenses the chain and channels his momentum to pull Sasaki flying along with his right fist in a circular motion until finally crashing him againt a building. At that moment Franky notices the wall shatters before Sasaki touches it.
Franky to himself
(What the...? It's like he's wearing an invisible armor. Is this why my bullets didn't do anything either?)
尾田栄一郎
Sasaki coming out of the debris
USELESS AGAIN! I told you. You can't hurt me with brute strength alone!
unsheathing his sword By the way, meet my assistant:「Ō-Tsumayōji (Giant toothpick)」
Let's see if you can grab it too.
Sōryū Honkō (Mosasaur churning the river)」❕❕
Sasaki lunges at Franky swinging his sword fiercely. The cyborg uses his arms as a shield but every hit pushes him back.
Franky to himself
(It's like being crushed by a mountain! How can his arm carry this much weight!?)
Sasaki
You're tough too, I'll give you that. But you're not indestructible. A chunk of metal will never have the strength of my「haki」!!
The force in the fishman's strikes increases and the blade starts leaving small marks in Franky's body.
Franky alarmed
(He's making dents!! I'm made of wapometal! How is this...)
〄 Usopp
Oi, Franky. How do I use the sword?
Franky still under Sasaki's onslaught
It's at your back. There's a stick behind the seat, just take it with the gauntlet and the Shōgun will pick the sword.
〄 Usopp
Isn't there any button to do it?
Franky
No. you have to take the stick behind the seat. Aren't you using the gauntlets? Is that why you're kicking all the time? Put on the gauntlets to control the Shōgun's arms. Didn't you read the instructions manual??
〄 Usopp
Yes, yes! I only wanted to make sure. That's all.
Franky
(Enough of this! It's going to be hard to fix.)
尾田栄一郎
Franky
Are you immune to pressure too?
Coup de Vent」❕❕
Franky's left hand shoots a powerful gust of compressed air that sends Sasaki flying against the dome's wall of bone, only that this time, Franky keeps the wind going. The pressure crushes the fishman's body that starts to flatten against the wall.
Franky
Your skin is surely hard, but your insides aren't! Unfortunately, I must refill now.
The wind ceases and Sasaki's pressure is relieved. He coughs up some blood and smirks.
Sasaki
Ingenuity! Good. You're full of surprises. It will still not be enough.
〄 Usopp
Hey! Can I do that too, Franky?? It would be faster that way.
Franky
What?? Don't you even joke with that!! You'd blow away who knows how many people including our allies. Even the skull dome could collapse over us!
〄 Usopp
Woow, okay, okay. Downgrade version it is, then.
Marshal's Left」❕❕
Sasaki
You've got some guts ignoring me every now and then, you know? Let me show you about crushing pressure...
Kyōryū no dōmō (Savagery of the flood dragon)」❕❕
Sasaki jumps at Franky and puts all his might in a downwards slash that pierces Franky's left arm and gets stuck in it. Without thinking, the massive fishman gives up his sword and starts furiously punching, slapping, scratching and pinching Franky in a rush. Even the strength at his fingertips is tremendous. The reason why Franky is overwhelmed by his opponent is because he wasn't entirely paying attention as he's more concerned about Usopp.
Franky
USOPP!!! USE THE LEVER AT YOUR LEFT!!
〄 Usopp
What lever? What are you saying?
Franky
THE LEVER, NOW!! It's behind you, Usopp.
〄 Usopp
What's the matter? Why the lever?
Franky
USE IT and you'll see! But pull it now!!
〄 Usopp
I CAN'T!
尾田栄一郎
Coming from behind, a giant club falls over the Franky Shōgun. The mecha doesn't budge, but it's a very tough impact nonetheless.
Franky
USOPP!! Are you alright??
〄 Usopp
Yes, yes, don't worry, Franky. I'm great.
Franky
(Isn't he the least bit shaken? He's so calm and confident, that's so unlike hi... WHY COULDN'T HE USE THE LEVER??)
USOOOOOPP!!! WHERE ARE YOU???
From up high in a nearby tower, hidden to most people in the dome, Usopp pokes his head.
尾田栄一郎
Usopp afraid of Franky's anger
He, he... You should have really given me more options. I can't use the lever from here. Wait. You weren't expecting me to be in the middle of the battlefield, right? Not even inside the robot. I belong here in my sniping watchtower.
尾田栄一郎
Franky
That does it. I'm taking the shōgun back. You're going to get it trashed at this rate!
尾田栄一郎
Beast pirates Number HATCHA Giant Bounty: 1億6800万฿ (168,000,000฿)
Hatcha
Hahha, Me likey drill-toy! Me smash drill-toy!!
The huge slender man readies for another attack. Franky wants to intervene but he's being beaten by Sasaki.
Usopp
What do I do now?? Tell me, Franky!
Franky
You have to...ckjfnvjnsdeofm
Franky can't finish his sentence as Sasaki's hand claws his face and tears part of his skin.
Franky in rage
Orrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!「FRANKY IRON BOXING」❕❕
尾田栄一郎
The frustration, impotence and anger due to Usopp's irresponsible behavior sparks Franky's reaction and all of a sudden, he's the one beating Sasaki to a pulp. The comeback takes the Beast pirate by surprise, however it's not fast enough to go help the Franky Shōgun.
Unidentified voice
Narikabura (Ringing turnip」❕❕
尾田栄一郎
A piercing burst of compressed air hits Hatcha from below.
Hatcha
OUCH! Me hurtie!!
尾田栄一郎
Yamato
No touching other people's toys, Hatcha! How many times do I have to tell you?
The giant falls to the ground, unconscious.
Sasaki
Yamato?? Didn't you say, you were not going to help them in this fight?
Yamato
I'm not helping them. I'm just teaching Hatcha some manners. We do this all the time, Sas.
Sasaki to Franky while wiping off the blood in his lips
You didn't break me, but I definitely felt that. Congratulations. This is as far as you'll get, though. I'm not in the mood to keep this up any longer.
He runs towards Franky ready for his next attack.
Franky
I'm not in the mood either, so we have a deal. Good luck tanking this.
FRANKY RADICAL BEAM」❕❕❕

Skull dome: Jinbē & Brook vs. Smoothie & Daifuku
Running through the battlefield, Zoro sees the explosion caused by Franky's beam.
Zoro to himself
(Franky must be wraping up his fight. Good. He's so dependable. Usopp was with him so he must be alright as well.
Oh! That's Jinb... No, wait. puzzled ¿Who's that?)
尾田栄一郎
Smoothie
Mmm... You're very tasty. You sure you want to keep trying,「Jinbē, Knight of the sea」?
You don't look too good. At this rate, we may have to start calling you「Jinbē, my little pony of the fishbowl」instead. Hihihihi...
Brook
Let me assist you, Jinbē-san.
Astral Doors
尾田栄一郎
Brook's soul comes out of his body and faces Daifuku as his skeleton walks towards Smoothie.
Smoothie
Impressive. But you shouldn't make light of any of us. Specially not of me. I'm going to make a raisin out of you in one go.
Brook
Are you going to dry my bones? Please, go ahead! I've been suspecting of some mold growing in some parts of me for a while. A security dehydration would be much appreciated, miss.
Smoothie to herself
(Does he mean he's truly a skeleton? Isn't it just a disguise like brother Mont d'Or??)
In front of Brook's soul, Daifuku is quite scared himself, but Ifrīt is not.
Ifrīt
Oh, so that skeleton is your master? I really like your style. You have him completely in check. How did you get the upper hand? Asking for a friend, of course...
Brook confused
My mas...? What? It's not like that. It's just me. Why do... I'm wasting time.
「Soul...」❕
Before Brook can launch his attack, Ifrīt goes to him and shuts Brook's soul mouth with his own hand, grabbing his whole head in one hand. Brook stops in his tracks completely shocked.
Brook still able to speak
How can you... touch me?
Ifrīt
What silly question is this? Why should I be unable to? We're the same.
Brook having his soul brain break down in shock
Yes? No? 。。。I don't know? Are we?
Jinbē to himself
(How can this be happening?? I'm failing my crew. They're even coming to my rescue. This is so shameful...)
Daifuku relieved to see Ifrīt can touch Brook's soul
Muaahahahahahaha!! Mama has taken thousands of souls in her life. But this is the first one that comes LITERALLY walking into our hands!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!
Ifrīt! Get a hold of it and let's bring it to Mama! She'll be delighted.
Ifrīt with a sad face
Yes, master.
Brook panicking
Wait! What??
(Was I too confident?? Did I made a grave mistake??)
JINBĒ-SAN HELP MEEEEEE!!!!
Jinbē to himself
(Okay, maybe I still have a chance to prove myself.)
Zoro from afar
(It's definitely Jinbē, it must be. I should tell him later he shouldn't lose weight that fast or his skin is going to sag. Brook's with him too. They seem to be in trouble.)
shouting Jinbē! What happened to you?? Do you need a hand?
Brook crying
ZORO-SAN!! YES! HELP US PLEASE!!!
Jinbē serious
Don't trouble yourself with us, Zoro! It's under control. Please, be on your way, we'll get this over shortly.
Zoro shouting
I see! I count on you, Jinbē!
Jinbē in a quiet voice
Thank you.

Skull dome: Nami, Carrot & Rei vs. Oniwabanshu
尾田栄一郎
The samurai and the rest of the allied forces keep fighting without rest. The surprise element let them get and advantage in the beginning, but now the sheer superiority of the Beasts numbers is pushing them back little by little. No matter how many pirates they slay, more are still left to fight. Nami, Carrot and Rei are still fighting against the Oniwabanshu when one of the Heart pirates comes out of the stairs into the mansion.

Heart pirates Traumatologist HAKUGAN Bounty: 4600万฿ (46,000,000฿)
Hakugan shouting
Cat Burglar」!! Your comrade is in trouble. CP0 took her!
Nami surprised of his arrival
WHAT? Robin??
Hakugan
Yes! Captain Law sends me to tell you because he couldn't protect her! Doflamingo suddenly appeared too!!
Nami very worried
(Doflamingo again?? And the CP0. This is a nightmare and Luffy is still in a coma!!)
Which way did CP0 go?
Hakugan doubtful
Eer... How could I tell...?
尾田栄一郎
Carrot
I can track her, Nami! Will you be...?
Nami interrupting
Yes! I'll be fine Carrot. Please, go find her!
White Mask can you fight?
Hakugan blushing
Me? Yes, I can.
Nami
Go Carrot! He stays with me in your place.
Carrot running at an outstanding speed
Let's gooooooo!
Hakugan still blushing
The name's Hakugan... Nice to...
Nami interrupting
Good. Call me Nami. Protect me like your life depends on it. And stop blushing.
尾田栄一郎
Zoro
Hey, Nami! Need a hand?
Nami angry
Zoro! Where the hell have you been?? And don't tell me you swam off the island by accident!!
Zoro puzzled
What? No! Why would I...
Nami interrupting
I'm fine. Just got myself a bodyguard, but Robin...
Nami is interrupted by Sanji high near the top of the dome
Sanji
MARIMO!! Weren't you going to the roof?? What are you waiting for??
Zoro
Hey, calm down, everyone! I'm trying to find the way, okay??
Nami
Wait. Zoro, Sanji. Kaidō can wait. I know we're supposed to help Kin'emon and the others, but Robin has just been...
Sanji with an angry face of extreme impotence
I know!! But, without wishing to set a precedent here... Zoro must to go to the roof right now. Robin's unharmed. I can sense it. But somehow, Luffy and Chopper are up there, most likely fighting Kaidō and another strong individual. Luffy is on the verge of death. I'd go myself if I could!
Zoro, let me throw you up myself. I'll join you when I can.
Sanji dives to pick Zoro but King arrives to intercept him.
Sanji
(He's up already!? I thought I had more time.)
Collier Shot」❕❕
ProfessorGemini
King dodges and sends Sanji flying across the whole dome and out through a hole with a kick, then follows him.
Hakugan
These stairs should take you to the roof「Pirate hunter」.
Zoro
Thanks!
You sure you'll be fine, Nami?
Nami lying
Yes. Don't waste any more time and go!
(Luffy, Chopper...!!)
Through the dark staircase, Zoro disappears from the battlefield.

Directors at the Box Office: Guillermo del Toro
https://preview.redd.it/ssgcrty5dbuc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=840fd130b74c5be5023b84779deac50ee8ef1874
Here's a new edition of "Directors at the Box Office", which seeks to explore the directors' trajectory at the box office and analyze their hits and bombs. I already talked about a few, and as I promised, it's Guillermo del Toro's turn.
When del Toro was about eight years old, he began experimenting with his father's Super 8 camera, making short films with Planet of the Apes toys and other objects. One short focused on a "serial killer potato" with ambitions of world domination; it murdered del Toro's mother and brothers before stepping outside and being crushed by a car. Del Toro studied special effects and make-up with special-effects artist Dick Smith. He spent 10 years as a special-effects make-up designer and formed his own company, Necropia. Eventually, he would get his chance to direct films.
From a box office perspective, how reliable was he to deliver a box office hit?
That's the point of this post. To analyze his career.

Cronos (1992)

"An ancient device. A modern discovery. A terrifying tale of the eternal."
His directorial debut. The film stars Federico Luppi, Ron Perlman, Claudio Brook, Margarita Isabel and Tamara Shanath. A mysterious device designed to provide its owner with eternal life resurfaces after four hundred years, leaving a trail of destruction in its path.
The film struggled at the box office, as there wasn't a lot of support for a Mexican film back then. But del Toro made a very good impression with critics, helping him launch into cult cinema.
  • Budget: $2,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $621,392.
  • Worldwide gross: $621,392.

Mimic (1997)

"For thousands of years, man has been evolution's greatest creation... until now."
His second film. Based on the short story by Donald A. Wollheim, it stars Mira Sorvino, Jeremy Northam, Josh Brolin, Charles S. Dutton, Giancarlo Giannini and F. Murray Abraham. Three years ago, entomologist Dr. Susan Tyler genetically created an insect to kill cockroaches carrying a virulent disease. Now, the insects are out to destroy their only predator, mankind.
While del Toro was excited over working on his first American project, he had a very rough time dealing with Miramax. When Harvey Weinstein saw early footage, there were fights between him and del Toro regarding the tone, with Weinstein claiming the film was not scary enough. It has been reported that one day Weinstein was so infuriated with del Toro that he stormed onto the Toronto set and attempted to instruct del Toro on "how to direct a movie". Weinstein would eventually try to get del Toro fired. Following an intervention from lead actress Mira Sorvino, Weinstein backed down, and principal photography would be completed with del Toro as director in early 1997. However, Weinstein still insisted on having control over the final cut. Producer B.J. Rack later compared making the film to "being a prisoner of a war camp", as del Toro was not given final cut privilege.
While the film had the backing of a big American studio, the film failed to recoup its $30 million budget. The film also received mixed reviews, who noted problems with the story and pacing. Del Toro has expressed his disappointment with the film, calling it "a horrible, horrible, horrible experience."
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $25,480,490.
  • Worldwide gross: $25,480,803.

The Devil's Backbone (2001)

"What's a ghost?"
His third film. It stars Marisa Paredes, Eduardo Noriega, Federico Luppi, Irene Visedo, Fernando Tielve, and Íñigo Garcés. Set in Spain, 1939, during the final year of the Spanish Civil War, the film follows a boy who is left in an orphanage operated by Republican loyalists and haunted by the ghost of a recently-deceased boy.
Del Toro wrote the first draft before writing Cronos. This "very different" version was set in the Mexican Revolution and focused not on a child's ghost but a "Christ with three arms". According to del Toro, and as drawn in his notebooks, there were many iterations of the story, some of which included antagonists who were a "doddering ... old man with a needle," a "desiccated" ghost with black eyes as a caretaker (instead of the living Jacinto who terrorizes the orphans), and "beings who are red from head to foot."
The film received highly positive reviews, who noted as his best film yet. While the film wasn't exactly a megahit, it made a very good amount of money in Mexico.
  • Budget: $4,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $755,249.
  • Worldwide gross: $6,582,065.

Blade II (2002)

"Faster. Sharper. Deadlier."
His fourth film. The sequel to Blade, it stars Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela, Norman Reedus and Luke Goss. The film follows the human-vampire hybrid Blade in his continuing effort to protect humans from vampires, finding himself in a fierce battle against a group of mutant vampires who seek to commit global genocide of both vampire and human races. Blade and his human allies are coerced into joining forces with a special elite group of vampires.
After the success of the original film, New Line Cinema and Marvel quickly commissioned a sequel. David S. Goyer had planned to use Morbius but Marvel wanted to keep the character for a franchise of his own. When Stephen Norrington turned down the offer to return, Goyer personally asked del Toro, as he admired his previous films. Del Toro was a big comic book fan, and decided to accept the offer.
Del Toro was tired of the romantic concept of "vampires being tortured Victorian heroes" and wanted vampires to be scary again. Del Toro chose not to alter the script too much from the ideas created by Goyer and Snipes. According to del Toro: "I wanted the movie to have a feeling of both a comic book and Japanese animation. I resurrected those sources and viewed them again. I dissected most of the dailies from the first movie; I literally grabbed about four boxes of tapes and one by one saw every single tape from beginning to end until I perfectly understood where the language of the first film came from. I studied the style of the first one and I think Norrington used a tremendous narrative style. His work is very elegant". Del Toro usually consulted with Snipes on the script, as he believed he was the best person who knew the character.
The film was highly anticipated, and it delivered by earning $155 million worldwide, del Toro's first film to pass the $100 million milestone. But critical reception was mixed; while the action was praised, others criticized the story and lack of character development.
  • Budget: $54,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $82,348,319.
  • Worldwide gross: $155,010,032.

Hellboy (2004)

"Here to protect."
His fifth film. Based on the Dark Horse Comics character created by Mike Mignola, it stars Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Jeffrey Tambor, Karel Roden, Rupert Evans, and John Hurt. In the film, a charismatic demon-turned-investigator named "Hellboy" works with the secretive Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense to suppress paranormal threats, but a resurrected sorcerer seeks to make Hellboy fulfill his destiny by triggering the apocalypse.
Despite working heavily with Mignola, del Toro struggled in finding studios interested, as they disliked the title, script and Perlman's casting. Vin Diesel was linked to the role when the film was being proposed at Universal Pictures, and Jeremy Renner was offered the "title role" but turned it down due to having no attachment to the source material. David Hyde Pierce was hired to provide the voice for Abe Sapien due to Pierce being a "bigger name" and having a "more recognizable sound". Pierce refused to take credit, perform press tours, or attend the premiere out of respect for Doug Jones.
The film received a great response, particularly for del Toro's style. But that didn't translate at the box office; it hit almost $100 million, which was far below its needed break-even point. As a consolation, however, the film was a massive hit on DVD.
  • Budget: $66,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $59,623,958.
  • Worldwide gross: $99,378,985.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

"What happens when make-believe believes it's real?"
His sixth film. It stars Ivana Baquero, Sergi López, Maribel Verdú, Doug Jones, and Ariadna Gil. The story takes place in Spain in the summer of 1944, during the early Francoist period, five years after the Spanish Civil War. The narrative intertwines this real world with a mythical world centered on an overgrown, abandoned labyrinth and a mysterious faun creature, with whom the main character, Ofelia, interacts.
For 20 years, del Toro had a notebook with doodles, ideas, drawings and plot bits for an unspecified film. At one point during production, he left the notebook in a taxi in London and was distraught, but the cabbie returned it to him two days later. Del Toro got the idea of the faun from childhood experiences with "lucid dreaming"; every midnight, he would wake up, and a faun would gradually step out from behind the grandfather's clock.
The film employs some computer-generated imagery in its effects, but it mostly uses complex make-up and animatronics. Del Toro himself performed the noises for the toad. The mandrake root is a combination of animatronics and CGI. Del Toro wanted the fairies "to look like little monkeys, like dirty fairies", but the animation company had the idea to give them wings made of leaves. Disappointed with the subitles for Devil's Backbone, del Toro himself decided to make the subtitles. While the film is titled Pan's Labyrinth in North America, del Toro said the faun is not Pan.
When the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, it was met with a record 22-minute standing ovation. It received del Toro's greatest reviews and was quickly named as one of the best films of the century, and of all time. The language barrier didn't stop it from finding an audience: it earned $83 million worldwide, making it one of the biggest numbers for a Mexican/Spanish film. It received 6 Oscar nominations, with del Toro achieving his first nomination for Best Original Screenplay. It won for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Makeup.
  • Budget: $19,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,646,380.
  • Worldwide gross: $83,863,565.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

"Believe it or not, he's the good guy."
His seventh film. The sequel to Hellboy, it stars Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Hurt. In the film, Hellboy and the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense must battle a mythical prince who plans to reclaim the world for his magical kindred.
While Hellboy wasn't a box office success, it earned a huge amount of renue through DVD sales. This convinced the producers that there was enough interest for a sequel. After Sony chose to pass on the project, Universal picked it up. Del Toro and Mignola started considering what comics to adapt, before deciding that a completely original idea seemed best for the project. Thanks to Pan's Labyrinth, del Toro didn't struggle in getting the film made on his own terms.
The film received great reviews, and some noted it as an improvement over the original. The film's hype really seemed on point, as the film opened with $34.5 million on its opening weekend, far bigger than the original. However, the arrival of a small indie flick called The Dark Knight on its second weekend heavily damaged its legs. It went from #1 to #5 on just one weekend, falling a disastrous 71%. It never recovered, and closed with $75 million domestically and $160 million worldwide, failing to recoup its $85 million budget. Like the original, it performed quite well on home media. While del Toro and Perlman were insistent that a third film would happen, it was eventually scrapped.
  • Budget: $85,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $75,986,503.
  • Worldwide gross: $160,388,063.

Pacific Rim (2013)

"Go big or go extinct."
His eighth film. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman. The film is set in the not-too-distant future, when Earth is at war with the Kaijus, colossal sea monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers, gigantic humanoid mechas, each controlled by two co-pilots whose minds are joined by a mental link. Focusing on the war's later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to defeat the Kaiju and their secret masters once and for all.
While walking on the beach near Santa Monica Pier, Travis Beacham imagined a giant robot and a giant monster fighting to the death. He then came up with the concept of the robots being controlled by two pilots, wondering what would happen if one dies. Legendary Pictures bought his script, and del Toro was fascinated by the concept. When one of his projects was cancelled, del Toro decided to focus on Pacific Rim. He introduced ideas he had always wished to see in the genre, such as a Kaiju birth and a Kaiju attack seen from a child's perspective. At $180 million, it was his most expensive film. He cast many actors based on his familiarity with other projects. For example, he cast Charlie Day because he liked his performance in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In return, the show got del Toro to play Pappy McPoyle in 2 episodes.
The film received great reviews, particularly for its special effects and action sequences. Although that didn't exactly translate into a box office hit. The film had a modest performance in North America and other territories, which was quite bad considering its budget. And so China came to the rescue; it grossed a huge $111 million in the market, becoming the biggest territory for the film and allowing it to pass $400 million worldwide. So not a bomb, but not exactly a huge hit as expected. Too bad there were was no sequel.
  • Budget: $180,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $101,802,906.
  • Worldwide gross: $411,002,906.

Crimson Peak (2015)

"Beware."
His ninth film. It stars Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Jim Beaver. The story, set in Edwardian-era England, follows an aspiring author who travels to a remote Gothic mansion in Cumberland, England with her new husband and his sister. There, she must decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home.
Del Toro convinced Universal in greenlighting Crimson Peak, as they kept in touch during the making of Pacific Rim. He said he wanted the film to take the horror genre to its roots, "I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets. I wanted this to feel like a throwback." He wanted to create a large-scale horror film in the tradition of those he grew up watching, such as The Omen, The Exorcist, and The Shining.
The film fared solid, but not great reviews. While the film was praised for its visual style, it was also criticized for its thin story and weak characters. It also struggled at the box office; it made just $74 million against its $55 million budget. Ouch.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $31,090,320.
  • Worldwide gross: $74,679,822.

The Shape of Water (2017)

"A fairy tale for troubled times."
His tenth film. It stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Octavia Spencer. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, the film follows a mute custodian at a high-security government laboratory who falls in love with a captured humanoid amphibian creature, and decides to help him escape from death at the hands of an evil colonel.
The project was primarily inspired by del Toro's childhood memories of seeing Creature from the Black Lagoon and wanting to see the Gill-man and Kay Lawrence succeed in their romance. After failing to convince the Universal executives in accepting his pitch, Searchlight Pictures got involved. Del Toro cast Sally Hawkins after watching Fingersmith and Happy-Go-Lucky, wanting her to emulate Stan Laurel's performances. He also wanted Ian McKellen to play Giles, as he based the character on his performance in Gods and Monsters. Unfortunately, McKellen was unavailable and Richard Jenkins was cast instead.
The film received critical acclaim, quickly named as one of del Toro's best films. And despite the weird premise, it was a huge success for del Toro, as it earned almost $200 million worldwide, becoming one of Searchlight's biggest films. After winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, it received 13 Oscar nominations. It won Best Production Design and Best Score, and del Toro would finally get his first Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture.
  • Budget: $20,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $63,859,435.
  • Worldwide gross: $195,243,464.

Nightmare Alley (2021)

"Man or beast."
His 11th film. Based on the novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, it stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn. It follows a charming and ambitious carnival worker with a mysterious past who takes big risks to boost his career.
The film was a huge deviation from del Toro's works, as it features no supernatural or fantasy elements. The novel was previously adapted in 1947, but del Toro was more interested in making a more faithful adaptation. Leonardo DiCaprio was eyed to star in the film, but Bradley Cooper replaced him. Del Toro stated that he and Cooper quickly connected with each other when del Toro met Cooper in the latter's house to discuss the role.
The film received a solid response, although some criticized its length and story. Despite a $60 million budget, the film didn't find an audience, earning just $39 million. Despite that, the film still received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $11,338,107.
  • Worldwide gross: $39,629,195.

Pinocchio (2022)

"Love will give you life."
His 12th film. Based on The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, it stars Gregory Mann, David Bradley, Ewan McGregor, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton. Set in Fascist Italy during the interwar period, it follows Pinocchio's life as he adventures the world.
The film was a lifelong passion project for del Toro, who watched the 1940 Disney version when he was a kid. He loved it, and by his teenage years, yearned to make his own dark version. In 2003, he discovered Gris Grimly's illustrations for the 2002 edition of Carlo Collodi's book, portraying Pinocchio as a puppet with a long, pointed nose and spindly limbs, with gestures that del Toro felt captured the energy of an unruly but otherwise goodhearted puppet. This was the vision that del Toro wanted to create, but he wasn't getting support from the studios in greenlighting the stop-motion project. Fortunately, Netflix saved the project in 2018, allowing him to fulfill his dream.
The film was acclaimed by critics and audiences, particularly for its dark tone. As it was a Netflix original film, there are no box office numbers available. Over its first seven days of digital release, the film logged over 10.91 million hours viewed worldwide. Del Toro won his third Oscar, now for Best Animated Film.

The Future

He's currently filming his new film, Frankenstein, for Netflix. It will star Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Other Projects

He has written some films that he never directed, such as The Hobbit films, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and The Witches.
He is also an executive producer on films like Megamind, Puss in Boots, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3. He was also a producer on Rudo y Cursi, The Book of Life, Pacific Rim: Uprising and Antlers.
In television, he created two shows. The first is The Strain, which is based on a book he wrote with Chuck Hogan, and he directed the first episode. The other is Trollhunters, which is based on his novel.

The Unrealized Films

Well, you couldn't make a post on del Toro without bringing up the projects he never got to make. So let's delve into a few of them.
  • Exorcist: Chapter 4 Verse I: Del Toro pitched a fourth Exorcist film to Morgan Creek, which would have seen Father Merrin brought in to investigate the murder of a priest by a possessed child in the Vatican during World War II. Del Toro said that Morgan Creek liked the story, but they didn't want a single exorcism in the film. Oh the irony.
  • Creature from the Black Lagoon: A longtime fan of the 1954 film, del Toro talked with Universal over directing a remake. He envisioned a film which would focus more on the creature's perspective, where the Gill-man ends up together with the female lead. The studio would reject this pitch, although del Toro would use these elements for The Shape of Water.
  • The Wind in the Willows: Del Toro started working with Disney on an animated film adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's novel. The film would have been animated using CGI animation, but the project was abandoned following many delays. He said why he left; "It was a beautiful book, and then I went to meet with the executives and they said, 'Could you give Toad a skateboard and make him say, "radical dude" things?' and that's when I said, 'It's been a pleasure...'"
  • Halo: Del Toro started working with Peter Jackson on a Halo adaptation, with del Toro writing the script with D.B. Weiss. His project envisioned a brother vs. brother story between the character Master Chief and his twin, who sides with the villain. Del Toro would leave to focus on Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
  • Doctor Strange: Del Toro and Neil Gaiman pitched a film to Marvel Studios, wherein Gaiman wrote the script and del Toro would direct. This version would have seen the character as an alcoholic, disbarred physician in the late 1920s/1930s living in Greenwich Village for 90 years without aging. It would have also been heavily inspired by the art of Steve Ditko. Gaiman was especially interested in including the character Clea, but the studio was not interested.
  • The Hobbit: In 2008, it was reported that del Toro would direct a two-part film adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel. Del Toro envisioned the first film as a direct adaptation of the novel, with the second bridging the gap between The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings films. After spending two years in New Zealand working on pre-production, del Toro left the project due to ongoing delays and was replaced by Peter Jackson. The films were expanded to a trilogy during production, with del Toro still credited as co-writer of all three.
  • Hellboy III: Del Toro has been trying to get a final film made, but is stuck in development hell. His film "was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the third film. He has to become the beast of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time, he becomes a much darker being." Del Toro said that the project is unlikely to happen, as studios are not interested and also listed the decline of DVD sales (which got the sequel greenlit) as a big reason why.
  • Thor: In 2008, del Toro entered talks with Marvel Studios to direct an adaptation of the character. He said that he loved the character of Loki, and wished to incorporate more original Norse mythology into the film; including a "really dingy Valhalla, Vikings and mud". He would leave the project to focus on The Hobbit.
  • Slaughterhouse-Five: Del Toro planned "a more literal interpretation" of the Kurt Vonnegut novel than shown in the 1972 film adaptation. In July 2013, del Toro revealed that he and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman had planned how they had wanted to adapt the work, though del Toro joked; "How can I commit to it being my next movie until there's a screenplay? Charlie Kaufman is a very expensive writer!"
  • Van Helsing: Del Toro worked on a reimagining, with Tom Cruise attached to star and produce.
  • The Haunted Mansion: In 2010, del Toro confirmed he would make a new version of the Disney theme park ride. He said he didn't want it to be a comedy, emphasizing that he wanted it to be scary and fun. After del Toro submitted the script, Disney liked it, but considered it too scary for kids. Eventually, his version would be scrapped and a new version would be released in 2023, becoming a critical and commercial bomb.
  • Dark Universe: Del Toro got involved in a Justice League Dark adaptation. This version would feature appearances by John Constantine, Swamp Thing, The Spectre, Deadman and others. Del Toro wanted Matt Ryan to play Constantine, feeling the movie and TV show could co-exist. By 2015, he left the project.
  • Silent Hills: In 2014, del Toro was confirmed to work with Hideo Kojima on the ninth installment in the Silent Hill video game franchise. However, the video game was cancelled the following year. Del Toro has since said that he does not plan to work in the video game industry ever again.
  • At the Mountains of Madness: An adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's novella, it has been stuck in development hell for the past 20 years. Originally set up at DreamWorks, it passed to Universal when del Toro had a first-look deal with them. After delays, it was finally announced on 2010 that the film would be in 3D and that James Cameron would produce. Subsequently, he had Tom Cruise signed as the lead. However, Universal shelved the project when del Toro wanted a $150 million budget and R rating. No progress ever since. Del Toro says he hopes to eventually make it, although he is unsure if Cruise will still be part of it due to his age.

He made 12 films, but only 11 went to theaters. Across those 11 films, he has made $1,251,880,292 worldwide. That's $113,807,299 per film.

The Verdict

Inconsistent.
Del Toro has crafted an impressive resume. Even his weaker works still have their charms. The problem is that he has been struggling with the budgets, and that in turn prevents his films from breaking even. As he said, DVD sales were the reason Hellboy II was greenlit, but it was the decline of that market that made it more difficult to get a third film made. And that's before we even get to the amount of unrealized projects. A unique director that simply struggled in having the box office success he deserves. And that's a shame, as you can tell he is very passionate about his work.
Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Todd Phillips. Very fitting, considering we just had a teaser trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. Well, we'll later talk about... Wes Craven. A horror legend.
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
April 15-21 Todd Phillips Who's laughing now?
April 22-28 John Carpenter Is that really it? No more films?
April 29-May 5 Danny Boyle It was a long wait, but 28 Years Later is finally happening.
May 6-12 Wes Craven A horror legend.
Who should be next after Craven? That's up to you. But for that week, we have a theme.
And the theme is: Actor-directors. And I'm not talking about directors that occassionally act, some just in cameos. I'm talking celebrities more known for acting, that regularly direct. So there are two requirements here: the director must have a prominent acting career, and he must have directed at least 5 films. That means actors like Kevin Costner, Bradley Cooper, Greta Gerwig, John Krasinski and Jordan Peele are ineligible here.
So what actor-director should be?

3,021 A.C.E [After Cataclysmic Events]
The room, once dark to the point of nearly being pitch in blackness, was suddenly illuminated by the flash of a blue light. This light came from a holographic projection of a screen. A logo— a simplified insect with sharp edges and abstract shapes— appeared on the screen. Underneath read the word “CICADA.” Suddenly, a voice began to speak. “Greetings, ‘Jaeger Runner Recruits.’” It was calm, feminine and somewhat robotic. It was rather apparent that it was not that of a real human’s- rather that of artificial intelligence. The monotone sound of the voice continued on, however. “Your viewing of this instructional preparation video means that you are currently aware of the Earth’s believed uninhabitable condition. But you reside in an underground bunker located on the planet— why is that?”
The visuals on the screen suddenly changed, shifting to a spinning representation of the earth. A green hue lit the land portions of the planet. “Approximately three thousand years ago, the Earth was deemed no longer safe for human life. And so, aboard the ships you may be familiar with, humanity took to the stars in an attempt to solve this issue. Unfortunately, there has yet to be a planet found suitable for human life. During this time, large mechanical suits dubbed ‘Jaegers’ were invented by the best remaining minds of the human race. Initially intended for scavenging, the Jaegers have now gained a new purpose in the form of combat against the MONARK Company.”
And upon mentioning the name of MONARK, the screen changed once again. Now, an image of the MONARK Company appeared. Also created through sharp lines and shapes, the logo had a bird-like nature to it. “Twenty-two years ago, this company began a series of rapid and unlawful annexations of other ships— claiming more resources to overtake the entirety of the Jaeger creation process. CICADA was created in retaliation— a rebellion intended on removing MONARK’s imperial regime on all that remains of mankind. And it was exactly twenty-one years ago, that CICADA and MONARK declared a war against one another.”
As the voice spoke, numerous images shifted in an out of focus— some showing Jaegers under the possession of MONARK, others showing the ships and how their sizes compared. “Up until now, the rebellion has only made the use of a singular Jaeger and pilot— the Lupin.” An image of the Lupin, a red, white and blue robot with a slender frame appeared. “However, that changes today— as recently obtained Jaeger information and parts have allowed for the creation of two following models. You, recruits, have been chosen as the pilots for these upcoming models.”
“This has been the conclusion of the instructional preparation video for ‘Jaeger Runner Recruits.’ Please see to the next portion of the recruitment process.”
((Hello there! If you’re reading this, then thank you very much! It’s certainly an outlandish idea, but the desire to make a roleplay honoring those funky mecha shows such as Gundam and Evangelion has been strong with me— so I’d love to get this going! 2024.04.07 06:47 Bep_1 How I accidentally became an alien war hero 1/?

[Next Part]
How I accidentally became an alien war hero.
Or Villan (depending on how you look at it).
What do you get when you put an 18-year-old on a massive alien spaceship? A very boring one, apparently—there is so much space, so much time, and not enough entertainment. They seriously skimped out on the fun stuff. It's a freaking spaceship. How the hell did they make it boring? Now, what do you get when a bored 18-year-old finds a state-of-the-art gaming setup in a (apparently) restricted zone in a massive alien spaceship?
That's right, a very not bored 18-year-old.
***
It didn't really hit me until the sky slowly turned black as the suttle exited the atmosphere from the only planet ever known. The artificial gravity on this ship is insane. Not getting pushed into your seat with tremendous g-forces that make even hardened military personnel pass out in seconds flat. No clue how it works, who made it, or how they managed it.
It seems like thats the story right now for everything. I was just driving home when we found out some aliens were on their way, no ceremony or anything, just a message: Hey, were on our way, see you in 30. Or something like that. The aliens–the Oranis–were known for their flawless first contacts and were petitioned to do the same for Earth. Things went fairly smoothly, all things considered, with no mass invasion or nuclear destruction. Just some tense hello’s and What-the fuck-are-you’s for a bit, then some technology and information trades, peace deals, cultural exchanges, food exchanges, and a lot more. How do I know this? Well, I was one of those ‘cultural exchanges’.
When the Oranis first came, they wanted to learn everything about us, just as we wanted to learn everything about them. The Oranis and Humanity were very similar in their unquenchable thirst for knowledge. So, they offered a ‘trade.’ We send some of our people to them for studying and testing, and they send us their technology and information. The Oranis wanted people from all walks of life, not just some astronauts and military people, but older people, younger people, parents, kids, disabled people, anyone and everyone. They were especially interested in people who were around college age as they were the most abundant and diverse.
So the government had colleges around the country get volunteers, put their names in a hat, and pick a couple—like 15 per Orani ship. They wanted to learn about us face to face and give us a taste of what space travel would be like. (And you got your student loans paid off if you got drawn because you'd be up there for a while).
Obviously, I said hell yes, put the ticket in, and promptly forgot about it. Honestly, I never thought I'd actually get picked, like a 0.0001% chance or something (I don't know; I'm bad at math). So now here I was, in space, with aliens, just sittin' around on a Wednesday. Cool.
Except for the plot twist, it's not cool, and it’s very boring. At least for me, I'm not a great socializer, and most of this whole thing was about socializing. In retrospect, I shoulda seen that coming. The tablets they gave work pretty well but are about the same as phones in terms of entertainment, aka fast and frequent but with no substance. After about the second day of just scrolling, it gets boring.
The first couple of days were awesome, though. Everything was new, and the Orani were awesome hosts. They interviewed each of us and tried to cater to our needs as best they could. The Orani were fairly human-looking, up-right with two legs and two feet, except they looked like a bipedal cat-like race—paws, fur, tails n' stuff. Kinda creepy how much they look like a mash-up of all feline creatures on Earth.
Eh, that's for the biologists to figure out, probably too existential crissis’ey for me.
The closest thing I could compare them to is like a cougar and a tiger had a baby, then that baby stood up and grew 5 feet taller. They stood around 7-8 ft tall, very intimidating at first glance. They had a tiger-like structure but with fur color and style like a cougar. Aka, they were the cutest fucking things ever to me, like cats are my number one animal, and tigers top that top list. I've got a huge tiger tattoo on my right shoulder that turns into a sleeve that runs down to my hand. Got it when I was 16. Yes, I lied about my age (sue me), and it was oh-so worth it.
Basically, It was the best thing ever at the start, and I swear one day, I will get to pet one of them. They had this thing about it, and it was a recurring issue with humans as they all asked to pet them at least once before they left a room. They only really let people they know and trust touch them, and petting is a foreign concept to them, so they politely decline. But after the awesomeness of cat aliens died out, the boredom of just sitting in my room came back. The glamour of space can only last so long, and for me, it was approximately 127 hours.
We did basic greetings and interviews for the first two days. My interviewer, Kass, was sweet, and she was easy to talk to. I explained my basic life story, strengths, weaknesses, hobbies, and stuff like that. When I asked about stuff they did for fun, their answers were…kinda lame. Aka, no video games. They had normal stuff, and a lot of their non-electronic games were similar to human ones (again, good luck figuring that out, scientists), but I was never really pulled to those types of games. Computer, VR, handheld, console, racing sims, any electronic online games, you name it, I've played it (and loved it).
Online competitive games are the best, and my favorite are the tac-shooters, and a close second are RTS games. So when walking to get my daily blood sample and DNA swab (they wanted a lot of data they could hold on to, which was kinda alarming considering how much they would have by the end of the cultural exchange, again, not my problem), I wandered about the more, let's say reserved parts of the ship.
I mean, if you're just gonna leave a restricted access door open, how could I not at least peak inside? So peak I did.
And what did I see? The most beautiful, cutting-edge, stylish gaming setup I've ever seen. At least, I think it is. When I asked Kass about online multiplayer games she said she personally didn't know much about it, but from what I've told her I play, she said it sounded like their ‘war rooms’. Unfortunately for me, they were in a restricted zone.
But fortunately for me, the restricted zone is not so restricted right now.
“Bee!” a voice broke me out of my stargazing. I turned around and saw Toro walking towards me. He was an Orani and was one of the first ones I had interacted with. He was a bit older than me at around 27 cycles or around 23 Earth years. He kinda looked like a Siamese cat with how his fur was colored, and he had piercing blue eyes. His vertically split pupil was slim as he looked at me under the bright lights of the ship.
“Hey,” I said as he stopped before me. He was one of the doctor’s assistants who helped with the blood draw every day. We had some stuff in common, So we hit it off and became friends, talking to one another every day, and he even ‘lent’ me some books. He actually just sent me them from his holo pad. I had limited access to Oranis library, it was all in a different language and took some effort to translate to English. Word translation didn't work like verbal. It was a lot more complicated and was why the ‘brain bot,’ as I've nicknamed it, that they put behind our ears doesn't translate text, only speech.
They explained to me how it worked before I had it surgically installed, but I didn't really understand it. What I got from it was that it talks to your brain filtering and translating the words, hence: brain bot.
“Guess what?” Toro gave me his best impression of a human smile, teeth and all. It was cute how the Oraniss tried their best to mimic our mannerisms, even if their species might perceive them differently.
“Uhh, what?” I replied curiously
“No more blood draws!” He said with a small bounce to emphasize.
“Oh, thank god, I could hug you right now,” I replied with a relieved groan. The blood draws were getting old, and I was always a bit queasy after. I gave him a broad smile back. Toro titled his head in confusion,
“Whats a hug?” he asked with a curious glint in his eye that all Oraniss got when new information was in front of them. I let out a small laugh at his enthusiasm,
“Uhm, it's kinda like, hmm, how should I explain this…” I thought about it, and maybe this was my chance to get to feel his fur…hmmm. “Are you okay if I give you a demonstration?” Toro nodded eagerly.
“Well, it involves me touching you, like a handshake, but with your whole body kinda,” Toro looked thoughtful for a moment,
“Sure!” he said with another bounce. I smiled again at his excitement,
“Okay, so put your arms out like this,” Toro did as instructed, and I nodded. “Okay, then, when I wrap my arms around you, do the same to me.” Toro nodded eagerly once again. I guess the whole no-touchy thing was less of a problem than I thought. I guess if a stranger asked to pet me without knowing who I was, I would be freaked, but if I knew them a bit, I'd be okay. The same logic applies here, I guess.
I stepped into Toro's outstretched arms and hugged him gently, letting him back away if he wanted to, but to my delight, he hugged me right back.
It was glorious. He was so soft and warm, and I could be here for the rest of my life, he was like a massive heated blanket wrapped around me. His height made his head rest upon mine when we hugged, and I could hear a faint rumbling noise coming from his chest. I went to pull away, but Toro's arms stayed in place.
“I like this ‘hug,’” Toro said above me. He sounded very content and judging by–cat standards, I would say purring–he was enjoying it as much as I was. Then he started to rub his face all over the top of my head, the purring getting louder.
“Uhh…Toro?” I asked quietly
“Huh, oh! I'm sorry, I got carried away.” He released me, and I stepped back. He looked a bit embarrassed, “We Oraniss have something that I would equate to this ‘hug,’ and it involves rubbing our scent against one another lightly.”
“Oh, that's fine, I guess. I teach you, you teach me, right? That's the whole reason we are here.”
Toro's eyes light up again, seemingly thankful I was okay with his actions, “Yes, exatcaly! I would like to hug more when we see each other!” He bounced on his toes again, “I must input this into the data set on human mannerisms! Thank you, Bee! See you later!” before I could respond, Toro dashed away, shouting at other Oranis about hugs and even actually hugging a few as he went, some fought him off though. I laughed to myself as I watched him.
I looked around the hallways. Only one person was still here. Toro didn't even realize I was in a restricted zone because he got caught up in telling me his good news, and it looked like nobody else noticed, too. With my back to the door of the gaming room, I slowly stepped in and shut the door quietly.
Turning around, a massive chair stood in the center of the room. It looked like one of those fancy racing simulators, but instead of a wheel, it had two arms that came down the sides. It looked like you would grip those and use them as a movement. The chair had a similar exoskeleton for the legs, with a strap that would go over your foot to secure it in place. The chair faced a massive floor-to-wall monitor in front of it, like the size of four flatscreens. The head of the chair had some sort of helmet-looking thing at the top; it was more like a visor with a head strap and some wires running out of the top to the back of the chair where a big box lay. It seemed like housing for all the wires, the box wrapped underneath the chair, it was made of something flexible, and the chair was also suspended off the ground by a pole underneath. That screamed haptic feedback to me!
Like a little kid in a candy store, I bounded over to the beauty. If they left the door open it couldn't be that important, right? It was just a gaming system, after all. Hopping into the chair, I basked in the glory of it. The seat was a silky smooth texture, kind of like leather and silk combined, there was a belt on the chair that resembled a seat belt that I clipped across my body, and I started fiddling around with the exo-arms. I pulled them close to me and let go. They stayed there and moved with little effort, the same story with the legs. I reached up grabbing the helm, having to half stand to get to it. Pulling it down, I put it over my eyes and tightened the straps securing it to my face. The screen lit up in front of me, and the text on the visor followed my head movements. Menca Technolgies, it read.
The helmet seemed to make it a VAR system, with the main screen as the base and the visor giving it a 3D feel. It was strange and awesome. A floating keypad appeared in front of me as the loading screen faded into a new one.
Please Enter Name :
Uhhmm, okay, I assume it’s like a gamer tag. Wonder if this is the guest room or something. Usually, it asks if you have an account. Maybe it does, and I'm just gonna bet locked out immediately for a name that's not in the system. Well, here goes,
BeesKnees_03
The same Gamertag I always used, who knew that BeesKnees 1 and 2 would be taken.
Hello,
Mission Launch: 10:23
10:22
10:21
10:20
Woah, woah, We are just getting right into it? No Tutorial or nothing? Well, maybe in 10 minutes, it will be.
Nah, that would be weird. I mean, I have no clue what Oranis games would be like, but I expected some sort of tutorial.
Tutorial? Y/N
Huh…strange. It popped up right after I thought about it, maybe this thing is reading my mind, or it just hadn't loaded yet. Honestly, I don't know which one sounds more probable. I pressed the floating button, and it reacted as soon as my finger reached it. I gasped as the entire landscape around me changed. Like a full VR headset, I was now fully surrounded and in a…
A fucking mech suit? Hell yea! I looked at the thing I was in. The chair turned into a pilot seat. The arms looked more bulky, and there where now a lot of mote buttons on the handles. A joystick sat where I could get it with my thumbs. Pretty intuitive.
Please grab the power suit handles and hold them forward to calibrate.
I did as instructed,
Hold them outwards to calibrate.
Yes mam’
Push power suit legs to calibrate
Pull power suit legs to calibrate
Calibration complete. Use your legs to walk forward.
Uhh, like how? Maybe like thi—
Shit! Yeah, like that, I guess, just act like I'm walking, and it walks. This is so cool. I took more steps forward, revealing the realism of the physics engine. You don't get to interstellar travel without making a damn good physics engine, I guess.
The terrain around looked like a burn-down forest, with bomb holes and dead trees galore. It looked like an old war from Earth, one of the world wars we were forced to learn about in school. I got more used to the movement running around the broken forest, revealing in the awesomeness that was this setup.
Use power arms to grab weapon from back plate.
Oooooo, weapons. I did as instructed and motioned like I was grabbing something off my back. There was a metallic clank, and when I brought the arm back, the exo-arm was harder to move, not by much, but definitely notable. I pulled the weapon to rest in front of me
Holy shit, this thing was a full railgun lookin behemoth. It seemed to now be the arm. Instead of a hand holding onto it, I tested the weight, moving my arm around and swinging the weapon in wide arcs to gauge the handling.
When I put my finger on the trigger to the exo-arm, a reticle popped up on my screen. There was a charge bar that sat at the bottom of my vision, moving with my head. As I pushed the trigger, it powered up and fired a massive jet of plasma that annihilated a burned tree. I giggled like a little girl.
Messing around with the rail gun, I found its main flaw: it heated up super fast, maybe like three shots and I had to wait, so like a normal big gun in a game, high power, slow reload.
Grab secondary from back plate
I did as instructed with the same hand that held the plasma gun, another metal clank, and what do ya know? A minigun came back down. Well it looked like one, there was no belt that fed ammo, and it looked all glowy.
In the name of science, I let it rip.
And rip it did. Countless tiny plasma bolts rained from the gattling and I laughed manically at its destruction power. This one fired for a lot longer and recharged a bit faster. This shit was awesome. Why hadn't they told me about this? I told them my favorite thing was FPS games, how rude of them.
Use Left hand to grab hook.
Hook? Could it be?
It was.
A fucking grappling hook. This could not get any better. Wait, I just realized this is just that old ass game my grandpa played. Titanfall 3, I think it was. I rubbed my hands together like an evil supervillain. Just as I was about to start swinging, a warning came up on my visor.
WARNING: ALL PERSONNEL TO COMBAT SUITS; ENEMY INCOMING
Wait, I didn't get to test out all the toys. Sigh, well, I guess that's the end of that. Maybe it's some forced gameplay that acts as a combat tutorial. Probably that. My hud got way more cluttered as my vision switched to another area. There where countless boxes of information, ammo, weapons, heat, speed, noise level, compass, mini-map, coms list, etc.
But the coms list was marked damaged and offline.
Well, it's fine; you don't need coms in the tutorial, right?
The landscape was completely different. It looked like a world of black, rocks and magma, the only thing for miles. I looked to my left and right. There were countless ground troops around me. They all looked like robots holding some basic rifles. There were also other mechs, from what I assumed looked just like mine, a big box with a massive backpack of weaponry and some beefy legs and arms that were powered by a massive reactor-looking thing between the main body and the backpack. Which meant it was right behind where I would be sitting if I was actually inside of it.
I looked back ahead and saw a swarm of…something. They looked like oversized ants and bugs, differing sizes and weaponry throughout their ranks. It was actually more of a hoard than organized ranks. Seemingly sporadic amounts of each type were everywhere. I assume the game designers just made the enemy a ‘kill 'em with numbers’ kind of enemy.
Hehehehe, Its smahsin time. As I took off in a dead sprint forward to match the enemy, head-on movement to my right caught my eye. A teammate's mech was trying to get my attention, waving its massive arm in front of it as it barreled toward me. As it got closer, I saw that the main cockpit of the body was a dark glass-like metal that made it so I couldn't see inside. I assumed it was some sort of one-way material, and in big, yellow spraypaint across the side of the cabin, read,
SLAYER_01
Wow, boring name. Even for a tutorial AI.
The guy kept waving his arms about, making some sort of signal. I had no clue what it was, probably because my tutorial got cut short. So I did the universal sign for, uhh, “all good?” “Hello?” “Friendly?” A bit of everything, I guess.
Crouching up and down repeatedly.
The guy stopped. I guess that worked.
I turned back to the fight at hand, using both arms, one pulling out the minigun, which I could see on my hotbar-thing. As I hovered over certain places at my back, I lit up either the plasma rifle, the mini gun, and. A sword?! Hell yea. Then, with my left grabbed the grapple. It was time to kick some bug ass.

Captain Rezzi: Central Command Deck
CSC_Ship_043: In Orbit around Earth
“Uhh, captain,” My lieutenant Radi called to me.
“What is it Lutentait Radi?” I responded while still looking at the screens depicting all of our most experienced fighters in their Remote Opernatiaol Mechanical Suits (ROMS) as the battle commenced.
The Sheddri were always attacking. Even the first contact of the humans had to wait. There was no free time in the war; it had been going on for far too long, and too many species were wiped out by them. They were relentless and seemingly infinite in number. Alone, the Sheddri are weak and frail, but their numbers make up for that. The amount of people lost to this war made us seek a new way of fighting, a remote one, to only lose resources, not lives.
It was revolutionary technology in the galaxy, and the Oranis were the first to utilize it. Still, it was difficult to train soldiers to use it. It wasnt like anything soldiers had done before, and many of our people had difficulty using it, but it was better than the alternative. Throwing countless lives forward over and over again for no gain. So they had to get used to it, and some had, showing skill in battle one could only dream of when we first started. Our best pilot, Tross, could pilot a ROMS for up to 45 minutes without the mech being destroyed.
“Captain, ROMS unit 034 is moving,” Radi told me,
“What? I thought that unit was out for repairs, a broken com system, and cameras.” I replied, confused. I looked at the single black screen on the wall and frowned. My fur rose slightly. This rubbed me the wrong way.
I leaned forward into the intercom, “Unit 033 SLAYER_01. Please make contact with unit 034. It is currently being piloted by an unknown source, and we have no visuals. Please investigate.”
A crackle came over the coms, “Roger that cap,”
SLAYER_01 moved forward, hailing unit 034, which had taken off in a dead sprint faster than I'd ever seen toward the enemy. What the hell?
SLAYER_01 got unit 034 to stop. It turned and faced him, standing eerily still. SLAYER_01 used the universal hand signals taught to all soldiers, asking him what his orders were and what squadron he was in—simple answers for any soldier.
Unit 034 then did something I've never seen any ROMS unit do: he crouched up and down repeatedly, took his plasma chain gun (PCG), and took off into the enemy.
“What the hell? Who the fuck is in unit 034!” I shouted.

2024.04.06 18:22 Decayed69 Sam theory (Spoiler!) (post 2.1 story)

So… we all know that Sam and Firefly are the same person, but there’s something that I haven’t seen anyone mention yet, and I think it could be worth talking about. In the 2.0 story, after Firefly died and we went through the alternate dreamscape and Black Swan created these memories of Firefly, she was talking to Sam.
When talking to the memories of Firefly that was left behind, we hear her talking to someone that Black Swan described as ‘a tall man in silver armour’ or something along those lines, and Firefly calls him ‘Mecha’ instead of Sam.
I have two theories here.
  1. Firefly knew that she was going to “die” and she purposefully spoke out loud with those words to trick Black Swan and Trailblazer into not realising that Firefly is Sam. This takes an INSANE amount of knowledge, which she could’ve gotten from Elio, but I don’t think she did. This is because in 2.1, when Sam and Acheron are talking, Sam says that “my ‘script’ has always been brief”, and that “Elio’s only given me one instruction, ‘Get all of the Astral Express to track down the grand legacy’.” So why I think this could be possible, I think it’s less likely.
  2. Firefly and Sam are technically different people. Now hear me out. If Firefly was ACTUALLY talking to Sam with what we saw, how are they 100% the same person. While this is a bit of a long shot, I think Firefly and Sam are separate personalities. I think this is more likely to have been the case than the first, even if it had less evidence.
Also, when Sam reveals that he is Firefly to the Trailblazer at the end of 2.1 story, Sam says “This is to show you,” and then the armour disappears, with some flames appearing, revealing Firefly to be Sam, and her finishing the sentence with “…all that I am.” While the fact that the sentence is split between the two could easily just be for dramatic effect with the reveal, I believe it could be a very real possibility that it’s multiple personalities.
So yeah, tell me what you think, is either of these a real possibility or is this just delusion? But hey, that’s just a theory… a GAME THEORY. (I had to do it.)

2024.04.01 17:46 hcreiG Trailblazer of Reason, April 1st Special

Welt Yang, Trailblazer of Reason,
Imaginary, Preservation,
Talent: Interpret - After an Enemy performs an Action, Welt would mark them with Analyze, allowing him to ignore Weakness Type, and increase the Toughness-Reducing DMG of his attack by 100%. If marked enemies apply a buff or debuff, the duration of each Enemy's buff or debuff would be decreased by 1 if Welt attacks them. Only 3 Analyzed Targets can exist at the same time, whether they are adjacent or not.
Basic Atk:
Gravity Suppression - Welt deals Imaginary DMG to a single Target based on his Atk and regenerates a Skill Point.
[Black hole pops beneath Target by stabbing the Cane on the ground]
Enhanced Atk: Edge of the Void - Consumes HP equal to 10% of Welt's Max HP and deals Imaginary DMG equal to the sum of 20%-44% of his ATK and 50%–110% of his Max HP 2 extra times to an Analyzed Targets, and depletes Analyzed Mark(s).
[Spatial Slash by swinging the Cane like a Sword during Skill/Stellar Projectile Effects based on the Astral Express' Imaginary Train Tracks during Ultimate]
Whether Basic or Enhanced Atk, On-hit there's a % base chance to delay the enemy's action by 20%.
Skill: Reconstruct - at the cost of 30% of his Max HP, for 3 turns, Welt Enhances his Basic Atk to lock on up to 3 Analyzed Targets, depleting the Mark dealing Imaginary DMG, to additionally mimic 3 recent actions of the Targets with halved effects & duration.
During Welt's Ultimate, refreshes the duration of this skill, if mimicked action provides a buff, it applies to his Allies excluding himself.
Using this Skill does not end the current turn.
Ultimate: Domain of Reason - After 3 Allies perform an Ultimate, Welt can Deploy a Field that advances his Allies turn, fixing his Action Value to always be after them, and Absorbing DMG taken by Allies to himself by 65%, lasting for 3 turns. This duration decreases by 1 at the start of Welt's turn.
During which, at the cost of 25% of his current health, he can revive allies fully cleansed and retaining buffs, or reconstruct defeated enemies with reduced stats by 50% as allies that persist for 2 turns to perform a Skill, then an Ultimate to their cease.
If Welt takes lethal DMG during his Ultimate, reduces the duration of his Ultimate by 1 to revive himself by 50% of his max HP.
[Welt distorts the field within a Black Hole, and the Astral Express Warps through it then Reconstructs into an Eldritch Regal Mecha, similar to how Lightning Lord appears. Buffed Allies gains a blazing effect on their feet and weapons, then a short cape based on the Star Rail Pass/Ticket Design.
Whenever it's Welt's turn, it closes up on him with Heterochromia (Purple Red with Lightning, then Flame like Gold Eyes), wearing a Conductor's Hat, the Short Ticket-like Gold Cape, then Chunky Chops also with a Ticket Cape (our pet Warp Trotter from Aetherium Wars Pokémon Championship Parody event), and Pompom floating besides his shoulders whistling softly to issue an instruction to the Train, then it zooms out for the Regal Astral Express Mech to do whatever godly behaviour in synch with Welt doing an Unlimited Blade Works/Gate of Babylon summon this and that in tribute to his declaration at "Second Eruption".]
"Witness a World, Waking its Wonders(Welt),--."
"--and an Express (Pompom) Trailblazing through(All Party Members' voice in unison) * also cute trotter noises * ."
Technique: Anti Entropy -
After using this Technique, create a dimension around Welt that lasts for 15 second(s). All enemies in this dimension have their Movement SPD reduced by 50%, if they are too close, they animate as when depleted of Toughness to kneel/lay low. After entering battle with enemies in the dimension, there is a 100% base chance to Imprison the enemies for 1 turn.
Imprisoned enemies have their actions delayed by 20% and SPD reduced by 10%. Only 1 dimension created by allies can exist at the same time.
Passive 1: Refined Truth - The Reduced Effectiveness of mimicked Actions is negated based on % of Welt's Effect Hit Rate.
Passive 2: Sovereign's Grasp - Welt takes reduced DMG from Analyzed Targets based on % of his Effect Hit Rate.
Passive 3: Fulfilling Legacy - Whenever Welt depletes HP, he additionally regenerates Energy to his Allies based on 10% of his maxed H.P.

The Mess That is The Paradigm - An unnecessarily long Fortnite lore recap/essay

Intro

Ever since the Chapter 3 Season 4 trailer(1), I've been very miffed. This trailer, being when The Paradigm's face was revealed to be that of Brie Larson's, in turn, confirming that The Paradigm was in fact, NOT Singularity, which confused me and many others GREATLY, given that many details in-game, and by the Creative Director himself, Donald Mustard, all would say otherwise up until that very moment. In this post, I'll be proclaiming that I don’t touch grass by explaining the lore of, now two, Fortnite characters. This will be split into parts summarizing the "canon" and established lore, and in the later half I'll just be more heavily opinionated, explaining discrepancies, grievances, and coping.
NOTE: Sources, videos, context, and etc. will be bolded, numbered, and they will connect with a AutoMod-safe reply to this post. For some reason, despite being approved, YouTube's site gets the post/comment removed.

Chapter 1, Season 8 - The Unvaulting

After working together to insert the runes(2) into Loot Lake's massive vault, it had finally opened at the end of the season, causing catastrophe to The Island, and kicking off The Unvaulting(3). Before the Island's Volcano had erupted, we had jumped into the now-opened vault, which took us to The In-Between/The Nexus, the same area we were taken to after C1S6's Butterfly Event(4). In said vault, we were presented with several pillars that contained items to be unvaulted, but more notably, our first time seeing The Zero Point and also a small desk, containing the helmet of a character we had yet to see.

Chapter 1, Season 9

After the events of The Unvaulting, we were thrusted into the future to see a rebuilt society, with Neo Tilted and Mega Mall. Inside Neo Tilted, we can see a large statue of some figure holding a helmet. The helmet, in question, being the same one that was seen guarding the Zero Point in The In-between.

As the season progressed, over time we saw that the Ice Cap in Polar Peak was melting away, revealing The Devourer, a giant cyclops monster (or a basic t-rex, going from the comics)(5), which had eventually escaped. Following this, The Volcano, which had become a Power Plant for the high-tech cities, was hollowed out to prepare for construction. What is built is a giant mech/robot, able to be piloted and prepared for combat against another large entity, that being Mecha Team Leader. The torso/head, legs, and arms were all themed after other existing Snapshots. Those snapshots being: Cuddle Team Leader, Drift, Rex, Tomato Head, and Beef Boss.

Throughout the season, we were able to collect Fortbytes, which foretold a prophecy about the fight between the Mech and Monster, and with 90 of these Fortbytes we were able to unlock the woman in the statue, the woman guarding the Zero Point, Singularity. Upon unlocking her, you could find her other helmets spread about the map, which were bonus styles for her, but also correlated to the parts of the Mecha Team leader. Her Outfit’s ID internally is “CID_469_Athena_Commando_F_BattleSuit

The Final Showdown

The Devourer has finally surfaced again onto the Island, hungry for the energy contained within The Zero Point. It's go time.(6)
remember when they accidentally showed us the t-posed version for the event
Loading into the event, we're given a loading screen that shows a battle-ready Singularity looking at her creation last-minute, preparing for take-off, holding her (presumably) piloting helmet. Note now that we never actually see her board the mech. During the battle, we can hear The Mech make some speech-like, yet incomprehensible noises, talking to The Devourer, but they seem cocky or powerful. However we never do figure out what it was saying... unless?

Donald Mustard - Part One

Donald Mustard, the former creative director of Fortnite up until recently, has been known to share MANY hints on his TwitteX profile, from his location, to seemingly normal posts, his banner, etc. During the event however, at/around the same time we heard the Mech "speak", Mustard had changed his Twitter location to translations of what it was saying, those being, "We will defend the Island." and "We are Singularity..." Hey! That's the name of the girl! Given the parts of the robot, styles of Singularity, the loading screen, and translated dialogue, it's likely safe to assume that Singularity, is our Mech's pilot. (You would think. Back to that later.) (also labelling this 13a for the source, sorry its out of order)

The Final Showdown, continued
The Devourer began to take a heavy lead over the Mech, removing an arm and shooting some sort of plasma/acid through its chest. With no other option to stop The Devourer from consuming the Zero Point, the Mech's pilot had to stoop to its level. Absorb the Zero Point's power in order to defeat the monster. Floored from the beating, the Pilot realizes what they have to do, and thanks to the help of The Devourer, the Zero Point was able to be easily obtained. Now supercharged from the power of the omniverse, the Mech approaches Neo Tilted and grabs the statue of Singularity. The statue is lifted and revealed to be a giant, energy absorbable sword, which is used to finally slay The Devourer. The Pilot flosses on the skull of their victim, and chooses to ascend into space, never to be seen again, until it was.

Chapter 1, Season X

Due to The Mech crushing the Zero Point to absorb its power, it has caused havoc all over the island, and it is extremely unstable, on the verge of explosion. Sections of The Island have become reverted and frozen to their previous states from years ago, including Dusty Depot, and The Meteor.
https://preview.redd.it/vhr5cng88brc1.png?width=616&format=png&auto=webp&s=8afa11e70a150b1ef53d547447ca093bc740e7f3

Previously on...

The original appearance of this meteor dates back to Chapter 1, Seasons 3-4, when it crashed into the island during Season 4. Inside this meteor, however, was some sort of alien to The Island, equipped in a raggedy spacesuit. This alien was known as The Visitor. He traversed the Island for a while, scavenging for parts, when he was finally able to construct a Rocket that would allow him to return home. He left the Island with a giant tear in the sky, which opened up an entire other barrel of monkeys.
The Scientist
Hey! If The Visitor was inside that Meteor, wouldn't that mean a version of him from the past would be inside that Meteor? And that's exactly who. (technically this isn’t actually clarified, ever) However, this Visitor was a bit different. He was aware that the environment around him was very unusual, likely given how he was in a giant rock suspended midair, and probably the giant space energy ball that was hovering. He was also much more vocal.

https://preview.redd.it/96mn0xqa8brc1.png?width=618&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b45c2620b7523442f246537ace3f39e220e26cd
Aside from that though, he knew that The Zero Point was about to burst, and he had to do something, quick. He began working on another rocket. He's aware that his rocket has the ability to open rifts and teleport things, and he intended to use this to his advantage. He deconstructed smaller mechs spread about the map to construct new heavy duty armor, and began planning for the Zero Point's demise.

from their twitter, the BRUTE was edited out for The End's loading screen
He was able to communicate with others like him(7, nice coincidence lol) from around all of reality, in order to synchronize a plan to restabilize the Zero Point. He left memos around his workspace, which were also messages to his colleagues in the event of emergency. He reveals that there are Seven of them in on this plan, and that they are being watched by some higher entity, but regardless, they must put the plan in action. It's time for The End.

The Paradigm

Around 3 days before The End event occurred, we were "introduced" (dropped in the item shop) to a new character named "The Paradigm", being labeled as one of The Seven, and her description claiming that "Her allegiance is Unknown." Her suit, however, ringed very familiar. In fact, it was almost identical to the suit worn by Singularity.(8a) (albeit, a little more raggedy/used as akin to the other two members of The Seven) That's strange. She also had identical styles to The Scientist.(8)(9)

https://preview.redd.it/5zvlabzj8brc1.png?width=351&format=png&auto=webp&s=bc0ee8e61f70e99a2fcaa632469395a0b81892c0
During this time, the community speculated that she may be the same character as Singularity, given the same suit design, and her description of unknown allegiance could align with a certain somebody guarding, and then crushing the Zero Point, causing this whole mess in the first place. But hey, Fortnite reused models 24/7 during this time, so maybe it's somethin', maybe it's nothin'. And at the time, we also didn't know what The Pilot (assumed to be Singularity) was doing up in space after they danced and flew off without any sort of issue, well, besides the arm thing.

The End

As the countdown hit zero, it was go-time. The Scientist flew his rocket around, attempting to calibrate Rift Travel. He opened a large rift in the sky, calibrating the 6 others around the map. From these, more rockets, similar to his, came out, and they all gathered from behind the large meteor, planning to lodge it into the Zero Point. Their plan works, and the Zero Point is preparing to bring everything back in to heal itself, causing a black hole. Before this occurs though, the 7 rockets are able to escape via their rift abilities. Goodbye, Athena.

The IO

During Chapter 2, we finally learn about who was watching over The Seven while they enacted the events of The End, and we discover that The IO have been the ones supervising and keeping watch over the Zero Point for millennia. Hey, isn't that what Singularity was doing in the vault, back in C1S8? Supervising the Zero Point? Interesting.

Chapter 3, Season 1

Been a while, hasn't it? We're now in the regurgitated, flip-sided residence of The Seven, most of them, anyway. There's a giant statue of a figure in armor, The Foundation, celebrating his heroism. Rings a bell to Singularity, doesn't it? Digressing, the storyline of Chapter 3 begins with The Scientist trying to find The Paradigm again. He works with us, The Looper, trying to find crashed satellites and other communicatory devices she's left for him, allowing for their communication to become much easier. Again, they are actively communicating with one another. (note this also.) It's implied that she is upset and is in hiding from the rest of The Seven. He sends out several personal messages to her, implying some sort of relationship between the two, and keeping her informed of current events, as well as how badly they need her to fend off against the IO.
"Paradigm. Uh, it's me. I'm-- I'm guessing you heard what happened. Obviously we had more ambitious goals than simply flipping the Island. That was just one step in a scrupulously planned attack that would've reduced the Imagined Order to a smoking crater, to put it mildly, But, the reality left us exposed and overextended. If-- if they manage a counter attack before we recover, it’s over. All of it. Look, I know our history is... complicated... but I want you to know I never lost faith in you. Okay, I did. But only for five minutes, maybe. Maybe a few weeks, tops. Uh...It's hard to believe that someone who went through what you went through would hold the line...But I-- I know you did. (sighs)So we really do not deserve your help right now, not at all, but we need it."
"Paradigm, it's me again. Uh, this is my final message. Everything, and I mean everything, depends on you now. You've always been so much more than just our pilot. In our darkest days, you brought us hope. You brought us together. And after everything you've been through, I wish we didn't need you to suit up again. But we do. We really do. All reality is yours to save... You know, that's it! Just all reality. You just need to come home."

Chapter 3, Season 2

We're introduced to The Imagined, whose quest line involves prepping for the war against the IO, but also getting back in touch with The Paradigm. The first few weeks of quests are spent harvesting computer parts for some vague project The Imagined and The Scientist have been working on since last season, which is revealed to be for contact with Paradigm. The Imagined keeps us updated through the story quests.
“The Paradigm is still out there, and she has just sent the solution to our problems! I gotta tell The Origin about this. He'll be… Happy? I hope?
He is not!
“Ah, that guy's always sayin', (impression of The Origin) "This could have been the end of our reality." And yet, he holds onto petty grudges that make reality harder to save! I'm sick of the infighting! Paradigm has a plan and we need to try it.”
But! They now have a proper relay to communicate with Paradigm, which will help in the fight against the IO. But what seems to be The Origin’s problem with Paradigm? The Imagined further informs us,
“So, obviously you know I set up a personal relay with The Paradigm. The Origin is convinced she's a traitor because she broke out of a prison he had to be rescued from. He thinks she had inside help, but he has no proof. Old men and their hunches, I guess. And even if he did have proof, I believe people can change. I just... I have to believe that. Paradigm instructed me to standby for important information…”
Fed up with all the fighting and distrust in regards to The Paradigm from fellow members of The Seven, The Imagined makes an announcement.
“There's been a lot of questions around the loyalty of one of our ranks: The Paradigm.
So I just want to go on record, VERY loudly, to say that I stand with her! She has helped us every step of the way. To judge her based on rumor is... Well, it's criminal. I don't remember my past. I could have done... I don't want to think about what I could have done. But I am here now. I am ready to fight. And ultimately, I think that's what matters.”
Time passes after this, and now we’re on set for a Collision course. This time, we’re in control of the Mech, with a Seven-themed redesign, and a sword with no statue, our pilot? The re-welcomed Paradigm. Welcome back.

Chapter 3, Season 3

This season wasn't all too lore heavy, but we got some scraps. The Scientist's quests involve documenting and researching the Zero Point's weird behavior, as well as the sudden appearance of some strange liquid chrome. He's also building some sort of A.I. to help assist him in his work. However, the chrome seems to get to him during his research, and he leaves a final message for Paradigm.
"Paradigm. If you're listening to this... It means I'm gone. I don't know where they took me. And I don't know if I'll be back. I promised we'd never leave you alone again. And I promised freeing the Zero Point would be safe. Everything's my fault. So whatever happens to me, I deserve it. I programmed Amie to take care of you and whoever's left. I hope there are people left. I'm sorry it ended like this. I've always--"
Static. The specimen seems to have kidnapped The Scientist to an undisclosed location, but not before he tries to comfort Paradigm again.
------Exceeeeept that was apparently a fakeout.
The Paradigm gets a questline to find The Seven, who have seemingly disappeared. Eventually Paradigm discovers they've disappeared on purpose in order to secretively study the Chrome in an underground lab,

Chapter 3, Season 4

which then "kills" them for real. Nice going gang! Joke formatting aside, 4 of The Seven are in the lab when it suddenly begins infecting The Scientist, The Origin, and The Visitor. And, a sudden camera pan reveals that, The Paradigm isn't Singularity! Presumably due to the positive reception of Dwayne Johnson playing The Foundation, we've received another celebrity casted main character, that being Brie Larson. She escapes the lab, and heads into the Zero Point, calibrating it for a destination of Reality-659.

Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War (INCONSISTENCIES BEGIN)

At last, we can consume lore via reading instead of semi-annual events and dialogue. Agent Jones and The Imagined are trying to acquire help from characters in the Marvel universe. They meet Spider-Man and Wolverine, and are trying to get Wolverine up to date. For whatever reason, Spider-Man gives us exposition instead of The Imagined, but he explains things that... start to make what we know, really weird, you'll see. Spidey explains what The Seven are, what they're fighting etc., but he also mentions The Paradigm, and how things were tricky with her. We enter a flashback to the battlefield which The Six are fighting against IO forces. They're struggling with facing constant stalemates, and they need to get a huge power-up. Visitor chimes in, asking, "You all remember the mecha The Paradigm built?" (note this.)
Now, with this dialogue, you would think the case is closed! Paradigm = Singularity! Yeah.... we'll get there.
https://preview.redd.it/ipiddgqq8brc1.png?width=609&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e164da33538882317e5609babe70cefeddb2f7d
The flashback contains a depiction of The Devourer (that actually looks like him, and not a T-Rex) and Spidey tells us that after the battle, she flew into the sky, never to be seen again. He mentions that The Seven weren't around for that happening, and that Jones was the one who told The Seven about this. The Foundation, on board with The Visitor's Idea, asks The Origin if he tracked the flight path of The Mecha, where it had apparently crashed into the Ice Moon orbiting The Island. But then, he also claims that there's been ZERO word from The Paradigm since it had crashed into the Ice Moon, and presumes her to be dead.

Zero War - Issue 2

The team eventually make it to the Ice Moon, discovering the Mech who had slain the Monster, and who's inside? The Paradigm, who was waking up from a stasis her armor put in place since she had landed. The Foundation holds her in contempt, forcing her to explain herself. She tells him that she was a PRISONER of the Imagined Order, and they had only released her because she was the only person who could pilot the Mecha.

Zero War - Issue 5

We only see Paradigm herself in a singular panel this issue, with her new armor. This issue takes place during the events of Chapter 3, Season 2's Collision Event. However, for some reason, the Mech in the comic still retains it's original Singularity based colors, while in the actual event, it received a complete paint job (and tinier head).
Confused? Great! Back to the in-game lore!

Fracture and Onwards

Paradigm returns from Reality-659, with some parts to add to the new Chapter 4 island. It's unknown what the heck she was doing there, but she's back now! Her and AMIE assist us in a 30 minute collect-a-thon to forge a new island, using parts from all sorts of different realities. Our last time seeing Paradigm (at the time this was written) is standing on part of the island while it's formed.
https://preview.redd.it/xhj8k3it8brc1.png?width=613&format=png&auto=webp&s=25c890f3130d836db2c7287a53c7abb32c29881d
When Chapter 4 begins, we get one line from AMIE regarding how Paradigm had something mission-important for us, but it was crushed in the formation of the island. The Autumn Queen, later into the chapter, also mentions that the “life force” of the island is slowly fading(10), presumably being Paradigm, presumably rendering her dead, with zero reason to really care about said death anymore. Celebs are expensive! You know what isn’t as expensive…?

TIME TO WHINE, BABY!

I'm going to start from the top of the recap, just so it's more organized, but this part will be alot more opinionated and subjective, and more like a rant than anything.

Singularity is NOT the Mecha Pilot?

First off, what is up with Singularity? Because despite,
  • The Mecha and her suit colors/styles corresponding
  • Her being the face of a super-futuristic, technologically inclined cyber city which would make sense for her to have built a Voltron
  • Having the loading screen for the event be HER LOOKING AT THE ROBOT THAT LOOKS LIKE HER, while holding a helmet that could be assumed to be used for piloting
  • Her internal Outfit ID LITERALLY BEING NAMED "BattleSuit"
  • Donald Mustard's status stating "We are Singularity"
She is in fact NOT the Pilot, and instead it's some random imprisoned girl who is a good pilot. What do you mean she had no part in piloting the mech? Was she just there goofing off? Why would the statue *of* her, be a sword *for* the Mecha? Why would the colors of the Mecha, match her suits styles? If she can build the thing, would she not also be a suitable pilot? This is the first of many things that make zero sense regarding the character separation.
The literal only explanation I could fathom for this is that the IO, the people who control the entire omnvierse, for whatever reason, have a reputation to keep up to literally nobody but oppressive cubic/chrome aliens?? And they don't wanna be seen like a lame-o and partnering with an enemy, so let's have someone else take the credit and plaster them on everything??

Donald Mustard - Part Two

This connects with the previous section about Singularity, but I mentioned earlier about how Donald Mustard would tease lore related things using his twitter. This includes his location saying "We are Singularity" for the Mecha, as well as a video about "The Singularity."
(I'm going to sound more insane here, but note the inclusion of "The", which is usually used to refer to members of The Seven, as well as Singularity never having the "The" before.)
In this video(11), Donald Mustard explains how he was asked to draw "a character who is super important to the ongoing Fortnite story that we don’t realize is super important yet". And the character he drew? The Singularity. He says that we only know her as Singularity being "one of her names", and that she's super important to the (at that time) current story. And at this time, the current story gave us a WHOLLEEE LOTTA Paradigm and Seven love, and given the "one of her names" thing, along with her being “super important to the current story”? And the things I mentioned in the previous section? It was all but in-game confirmed at that point that Singularity was Paradigm, but alas...
https://preview.redd.it/rkrly5cx8brc1.png?width=296&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba9f1d9f593ba19ecbc831471e40ee14bac56b65
Mustard also makes a goofy move in a statement about the comics, but we'll get to that briefly.

Silliness!

This is one is dumb reason, so don’t actually hold me for this, it's probably also wrong, but Paradigm-659 isn't as silly! With Singularity, we see her act cocky towards the Monster, and even floss on him. When we got The Paradigm, she had a little nervous smile with a sweat droplet as a style. She's a silly goose! But when we get to Paradigm-659, she's suddenly this super-sarcastic rugged badass Pilot, and ZERO smiley style on the skin :( (which unfortunately applies to every member after the original trio)

Marvel.

The Marvel Comic is presumed to be the proper lore for her backstory going forward, but it doesn't help that it makes zero sense as well. Let's begin at The End. It's not exactly confirmed or not whether or not The Seven were actually piloting the rockets during The End, or if they were remote controlled, but in my opinion, it makes more sense that they were piloted, because otherwise why would they fly and rift away once the Meteor was about to hit the Zero Point? Regardless, if the Rockets were manually piloted, then Paradigm would've had to been awake to pilot the thing, and this would also connect with the in-game quests mentioning her hiding away from The Seven since, but if she was comatose on the Ice Moon like the comic implies, then someone would've had to remote control her rocket, but if you can remote control one, why not all?
Furthermore, during the events of Chapter 3 Seasons 1 and 2, we learn that The Seven have a DIRECT COMMUNICATION LINE to The Paradigm who, has to be pretty awake to communicate mission plans with them? The Imagined also informs The Origin of this, so he's aware of her state as well. However, in the comic it's shown that the three + The Foundation first learn she's alive when they get to the Ice Moon and she has to be woken up from her coma/stasis by The Foundation, and everyone is all surprised?? What??
The biggest thing for me is The Imagined's rude attitude towards The Paradigm, who, as we've learned from the in-game story quests, MADE AN ENTIRE SPEECH ON WHY THEY NEED TO LET THE GRUDGE AGAINST PARADIGM GO
https://preview.redd.it/lymzrmra7brc1.png?width=977&format=png&auto=webp&s=e45858fb610d8e738e96e8d989d9b6f7b7d9c4ee
Donald Mustard also revealed out of nowhere that "Haha! Just kidding guys! Singularity was a misdirection! Definitely!" Interestingly, Christos Gage deleted his tweet saying this.

https://preview.redd.it/1tjqwk68gbrc1.png?width=762&format=png&auto=webp&s=319de0e4297093a993455ec95210c99dfcb7a5f6
"Singularity built the mech, while Paradigm piloted it" is also just contradictory to the line from the comics, where Visitor mentions that PARADIGM built it.
Later on, we see the events of the Collision event shown in the comic, except... ever so slightly different? In the comic, the Mecha still retains the Singularity colors, which would make sense! ...if Paradigm was still Singularity. We also only see The Paradigm herself once in this comic, in a singular panel showing off her "new armor".
This is more-so conspiracy, but I feel like they kinda had to replace it last minute, after Brie Larson was confirmed for the face role. However! I do have evidence to support this!

Epic's Collision Mockup

During a showcase, early footage of The Collision event was shown, and at the top it depicts a radically different design for the new Paradigm armor, striking an insane resemblance to... you guessed it! Singularity!
In the picture below I've put a comparison as well as one that traces out the shared features, like the antennae (red), heart-shaped visor(pink), and the helmet shape(blue)
(twitter source(12) that is trusted because it is so damn difficult to find people who actually care and talk about this one particular character LOL and i don't wanna cruise through a random 5 hour unreal engine showcase)
I'd also like to mention that they seem to be in the exact same render pose as one another, with the arm out of frame.
https://preview.redd.it/n6fpvjlrcbrc1.png?width=890&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d474e4927796b04c4ac048edcc3b76354bcfe89

Explanations/Hopeful Wishing/Coping

This next area will just be dumb wishes of mine for them to restore the glory of my favorite character
https://preview.redd.it/qm06tooidbrc1.png?width=616&format=png&auto=webp&s=207898cfc39009dcc7d88dd552c038834dadd7b3
I've thought and wished for several different ways they could course correct this, so I'll share some with you all

Time Lord Regeneration + Advertising

If you're familiar with the Doctor Who TV Series, you'll know that every few years, the Doctor has to "regenerate" his face, and they cast a new actor to play the role. If that sentence made no sense to you, you can watch this clip.(13)
My idea is that, you can have Foundation and Singularity be this particular species that is millennia old and can regenerate/shapeshift their face into a new appearance. In this way, they wouldn't have to spend so much on voicelines, and could also cast another celebrity to play that character briefly for advertisement, or if the lore funds get short, just make a custom face again! Tie this idea back to Singularity, and make it so Singularity "regenerated" her face into Brie Larson's. In addition, if the rumors that The Rock's contract disallow him to ever lose, this could be a way to get around that. I think this would be a great marketing and financial decision for Epic, as well.

Multiple Paradigms

This one may be the *most* insane, but hear me out. During The End event of Chapter 1, when the Meteor is about to enter the rift at Dusty Depot, we can see what seems like hundreds of different Rockets firing into the rift. While this is most likely just the 7 rockets going super fast (95% chance it is), I feel like there's also a real possibility of those being hundreds of versions of The Seven, assisting them, from across the Omniverse. I like to think it could also imply other variants of The Seven. This would allow for Singularity = The Paradigm coming from our reality/Reality 0, and Paradigm 659/Larson coming from Reality-659.

butt theory (joke)

singularity and paradigm have a butt. 659 has nothing. there is no meat on her bones. where did it go. 659 is an imposter and singularidigm is in jail. please free her mr. wen.

Closing Out

If you've read this entire thing, thanks! I've never written something of this sort before, so please try and excuse any errors or informal-ness there may be.
The Paradigm, if it wasn't obvious enough, is one of my favorite fictional characters! I still remember screaming from excitement and buying her instantly when she first came out in the item shop, and I've worn her as my main and to every event since The End, so I think you can tell how much this character means to me!
Hopefully this essay-thing shows a wider audience the potential this character had, as well as understand the frustrations many had when this (99.9% probable) retcon occurred. And hey, maybe Mr. Wen himself will spontaneously come across this post, and double-retcon! Lmao, I doubt that much, but it doesn't hurt to hope!
I'm super open to constructive discussion/debate about everything, as well as clarification or providing any missing sources! Just don't be a meanie/smart about it >:(!
I hope you have a wonderful day!!

P.S. donald please let me get an interview im dying to know what happened
P.P.S. (please come with the scrapped singularity/paradigm designs)

Zoom98 Build Companion and Impressions

Introduction

The build guide that comes with the Zoom98 appears to be poorly translated Chinese-to-English, and the online documentation is similarly lacking. So I decided to make a basic build companion guide here. You'll still need the manual that comes with the keyboard for the steps, and the list of parts it has. I'm also detailing my first and second day impressions here.
I should note I ordered this through Cannonkeys with the screen module, so if your keyboard looks different or you were hoping to get a build guide for those other modules, sorry!

Build Companion Guide

Your first step is going to be making sure you have all the parts in the instruction manual. We'll go from here.
Since having every part out is going to make this harder later, you might want to lubricate your stabilizers now. The ones that come with the keyboard are fine.

Testing

Unscrew/disassemble the case by its case screws, using that larger Allen wrench that comes with the keyboard. From there, you'll want to stick the batteries into the bottom case, and then plug in the battery cables and the daughterboard into the PCB. We're doing this so we can test that the PCB isn't dead on arrival.
Something to note is that the battery cables can be real finicky to plug in. You'll want to look closely at the ridges of the cable, and then veeeery carefully at the plugin spots for the batteries so that you know you are trying to plug it in in the right direction. If you don't have racoon-like fingers, it can be very hard to tell if you're plugging it in right at first.
Once everything is plugged in, it might just turn on for you. It seems those batteries come with some charge. Try to ignore the exposed RGB bulbs burning out your retinas and plug the keyboard into your computer via USB-C. The keyboard comes with a cable if you need one- I bent it immediately by accident with the weight of the keyboard case, like a genius.
Insert a switch to make sure it's working right. You might still have a dead slot somewhere if it does work, but at least you'll know the PCB is working.
If it's not working, time to go through the "joy" of a return.
You can also test out the Bluetooth and 2.4G connectivity at this point, as described in the manual. I'll get into this later, but I wouldn't bother unless you have a use case that requires it, given how freaking heavy this thing is even without the weight. You're not going to be moving this thing around a lot.
Once you're done testing, unplug everything.

PCB Foam and Stabilizers

The "poron switch foam", that paper-thin PCB shaped sheet should now go on top of the PCB.
Installing stabilizers is next. The keyboard comes with stabilizers and they seem pretty alright. You do have to lube them up yourself (some of them seemed to come wet with something, but it was not nearly enough lubricant).
I should note at this point that the stabilizers can help hold the poron switch foam in place. The kit does come with stabilizer pads, which I assume are there to help with the noise of the stabs. That said, the switch foam does kind of serve the same purpose and it already overlaps the space where the stabilizers go, so I just used that unless the cutouts were way too damaged. Unfortunately for those ones, I had to cut them off of the sheet since there wasn't a tearaway, and then install those dinky stabilizer pad sticker things. They're very prone to bending and creasing- press down on them hard once you get them attached to the PCB top.
I know installing stabilizers is already annoying enough, but try to be mindful of the poron switch foam here. The stabilizers can kind of cause "bubbles" and slight unevenness in it when you screw them in, so it might be best to start left to right, and keep a very firm hold on the foam while you attach the stabs. It'll make aligning everything easier later.
Finally, be mindful this plate supports a few different layouts natively, keep that in mind when installing stabilizers. Make sure that the keycaps you want to add will fit with the way you've installed the stabilizers at this point.

Plate Foam and Plate

From here you can add the plate foam on top of the PCB, and then the plate itself. The stabilizers can help hold the plate in place here, and align things better. It says you're supposed to screw the plate and PCB together from here, but the pictures for it are really small and I didn't really need to screw it to assemble the keyboard. I'm not sure why you would need to screw it together.

Gaskets

Those gasket sleeve things will go around the plate on the outside, all over, on those little tab things. Press them in on one side of the tab, then kind of fold it slightly so that you can push it in on the other side. Do this all over until it looks like the picture in your manual on "Step 8".

Poron PCB Foam

This thing is sticky, so I hope you didn't peel it before attaching it because it's 100% going to get stuck to other stuck if you already did so earlier. It goes on the back of the PCB, basically on the side that the plate isn't on.
Be very careful aligning it, especially when aligning it to the top since it's thin up there.
I don't know how much you actually need this foam. I suspect it adds stability and helps a bit with the case noise, but this keyboard has very little flex when built as directed, and I like a flexible keyboard. It also makes it so much more annoying to plug the battery and daughterboard cables in later. I might take this off, and cover the bottom of the PCB with a tape mod to keep it safe and help with sound. At the same time, I am worried that the flexing could reduce the life of the PCB, so I guess proceed at your own risk.

The Weight

You can install the weight at this point. I guess it should technically be there, though you'll never ever see it since it's at the bottom.

Taping Batteries

This part of the guide was so stupid. You get these white strips of tape that come with the keyboard and no directions on how to apply them. Just press sticky side down in the slots where the batteries go, two each, and then peel them away. The paper top side will come off, but you'll now have double-sided sticky tape on the case that you can attach the batteries to. I hope you have the batteries in right, because you're never getting this tape off.

Internal Weight/Poron Weight Foam

I have no clue what the internal weight thing means, but I did get the poron weight foam and I put it in. It'll probably help a little with the audio of the keyboard.

Module Installation

It's at this point that you're supposed to attach the modules, be it knobs, the badge, the two-key module, or the monitor.
I only got the monitor module, and it came pre-attached to the top case. I don't know why the instructions are there for it, I'm guessing it's so you can re-attach it later if you try out other modules? Or maybe the non-tri-mode PCB comes differently?
You do need to attach the ribbon cable to the PCB, and then to the top case for the monitor. I would recommend doing the top case first, and then the PCB- it's so freaking hard to do because of having to finaggle it between top case and the PCB and the bottom case.
Pay very close attention to which side the ribbon cable goes in on the top case plugin and the PCB plugin in the instruction manual. This threw me off so hard when I first assembled the keyboard, and I wasted about 30 minutes trying to plug the ribbon cable in on the wrong side.

Plug in Cables

The instruction manual doesn't remind you, but make sure to plug back in the battery cables (if you have them), and the daughterboard cables at this point, because it's very annoying to open this back up.

That stupid telescope

The designer of this keyboard has a stupid glowing telescope above the arrow keys, and it's a flashing RGB pattern that's independent of all RGB on the keyboard. It doesn't turn off when you turn off the other RGB, and it doesn't change color or pattern no matter what you do. I confirmed that this is the case when I emailed Meletrix and this is the worst.
If you don't want a telescope logo flashing beyond your control, I would cover up the underside with tape or something at this point, if possible. When I take apart the Zoom98 again this coming weekend, I will be doing so.

Final Check

Make sure everything is plugged in. Make sure everything is aligned and good in there. You may want to test it one more time plugged into your PC, before moving on.

Closing Case

You'll want to carefully put the case back together now. You might need to shift the plate/PCB around a little to make sure it fits right in there. Press the top case down on the bottom case, with the PCB and plate in between. Try to make sure the plate/PCB combo isn't interfering with the top and bottom case closing up. Once it's closed, screw it all back in using that Allen wrench from earlier. There'll be eight screws in total.

Feet

The instruction manual says to add feet now. I would wait until the very, very end just in case there's a dead switch slot or some other issue. It'll make it easier to disassemble again later.
The Zoom98 I ordered came with black and white feet. Keep in mind they're slightly rounded, so use that to help guide orientation of the feet and carefully press them in. The build guide kind of brushes over this like it does with so many other important sections, but try to press the feet in a little if they're uneven, and it'll kind of smooth out.

Finishing touches

Add the switches at this point. The ones near the stabilizers will go in at different orientations than you'd expect, so don't be too put off by that. Don't add keycaps yet, because you'll want to test everything in VIA.
This is the most egregious part of the manual because there wasn't a link to the VIA file for the keyboard. If VIA doesn't recognize the Zoom98 when you plug it in and pair to VIA, you'll need to go here for the VIA file: EDIT- Reddit apparently considers Notion documentation links spam so I guess you're truly out of luck if you came here for a link :/
I'm not even sure this is the legit page for it, but it did work, and it does have the most documentation I found for the Zoom98. This might be virus bait for all I know. Cannonkeys didn't have documentation on the Zoom98 as of this post, and I'm really hoping they'll add it later. It's absurd how hard it was to find documentation on it.
The VIA file will download as a zip, because of course it does. You'll need to extract the .json from it. Make sure you have the right VIA file, because they appear to be different between the tri-mode PCB and the wired one.
If that wasn't bad enough, I had errors importing the VIA file and I had to toggle a compatibility mode, for which I can't even remember the details. Even then, it gave me a bunch of errors for the import.
But once you have it plugged in, you can use the switch tester to find out which keyboard switch pins you bent. You can also enable the various layout options here via the Design Tab in VIA, such as the split spacebar, the encoder, etc.
Once you have this all figured out and everything is working, you can add your keycaps. Congratulations champ.
Once you have the keycaps installed, you can map the layer stuff you might use for productivity. Layer 1 has a bunch of stuff already mapped that I don't want to touch to keep hotkeys for controlling the keyboard consistent, so I would recommend using layer 2 for macros and your special snowflake keyboard controls.

Impressions

The Bad
  • Documentation is lacking online. If the link I found is indeed the correct link for Zoom98 documentation, Cannonkeys should link to it, or copy the documentation.
  • The telescope light not being controlled by anything is so dumb.
  • The keyboard is pretty rigid if assembled as directed. Like I said, I might take the case foam off just to add the flexibility you'd expect out of a PCB with flex cuts. Tape mod also just goes so hard in terms of audio.
  • I got the basic black color for the keyboard case, and I'm not a big fan. It's like a rocky black with a kind of concrete-like look and texture to it. I might paint it just to get a better looking black.
The Good
  • The underside RGB glow has different controls than the rest of the RGB. This is actually kind of cool since it can be controlled to your liking. See the documentation I linked above on how to control it.
  • I like the hotkeys this keyboard has.
  • It has a lot of layers... in VIA.
  • The amount of layout options you get with this keyboard is incredible. It's also a good layout for those wanting something like a fully keyboard, but with better compactness.
  • It sounds really nice!

Should you buy this?

You might be looking up Zoom98 on Reddit to see if you should buy this. As of day 2, I'd say if the keyboard interests you, make sure you can find the documentation you need for the keyboard. If you can, go for it!
One Week Update: Given the difficulties in the software, the ungainly assembly process for keyboard beginners, and poor general support, I'd probably recommend against buying this keyboard unless you are particularly attached to the layout, and you aren't sold by the QK-100.
If you have any questions I'm available to answer them to the best of my ability.
Thanks for reading this post! Here's a completed build image as a reward.

Unverak looked over at the specialist at the sensor console, seeing the other being blink all six eyes at once, top three then bottom three, shake his head, and do it again.
"What is it?" Unverak asked.
The Captain still had not arrived on the ship's bridge.
"I'm getting drive readings. Not a few hundred, we're talking my board keeps crashing out after tallying upwards of twelve million," the being stated. The specialist looked up, reaching up to nervously tug at their beard. "Either the sensor systems are reading it wrong, or there are over twelve million superheavy drive signatures inside that system," he looked back down. "The sensor analysis system crashes before it can even start parsing the smaller signatures, much less the civilian grade ones."
Unverak moved over and looked. The board had reboot and was tallying the drives, estimating strength and hullsize. It reached twelve million and crashed out.
"Either there's more super-heavy class ships in that system than there are in every known naval force combined, or they're spoofing us somehow," the sensor tech said. He looked up and blinked again, his expression slightly fearful. "Worse..."
The lights on the bridge flickered twice.
"Everyone, lift your hands from the keyboards and holo-interfaces," Unverak stated. He moved to the holotank, leaning against one of the consoles and trying to look nonchalant. The lift doors opened and the Captain rushed into the bridge.
"What's going on?" the Captain asked.
"We've been boarded," Unverak stated.
The Captain looked at the Defense Officer. "Status of the boarders?"
The Defense Officer stared at his board. "I see no boarders."
The holotank came on, showing hieroglyphics.
"Where did those come from?" the Captain demanded.
Unverak moved to look at them, slowly walking around the holotank.
"Unknown. They originated from the drink vending machine in the officer's mess," the Combat Information Officer said.
Unverak held his hand out. "Do not do anything. This is a message," he said.
The Captain started to bridle up, remembered that the Emperor himself had blessed Unverak's command of this mission, and forced himself to calm down.
Unverak stared at the glyphs and runes.
They were easy to understand.
Any attempt to maneuver or go to Transit Space would result in immediate destruction of that ship.
Any attempt at fire would result in the immediate destruction of that ship.
All weapons and shields were permitted to be online, but any actions deemed offensive would result in the ship being immediately destroyed.
For two light years around the stellar mass it was to be considered restricted territory, defended by lethal and overwhelming force.
Unverak relayed the instructions to the Captain.
"Whoever sent those is not in charge. This is a Grenklakail Imperial task force!" the Captain said.
"Whoever sent that used our own systems to do so without us knowing how," Unverak stated, tugging on his beard. "Two light years is an acceptable territorial limit."
"Lexicon and encyclopedia has been accessed and downloaded to the drink dispenser," the Combat Information Officer stated.
"Perhaps the drink dispenser in the officer's mess is attempting to increase its knowledge?" Unverak asked. He pointed at the holotank. "No. Much like the guardian Wrathful Code, we have been boarded by an artificial intelligence."
"Those are our words," the words hissed from the speakers around the bridge. "It's not for you to use."
Silence descended on the bridge.
"It is advisable for you to refer to us as digital sentiences," the voice said, their voice low and full of malevolence.
"Cut the links to the computer core," the Captain ordered.
The Emergency Officer reached for his board.
"No! That would be taken as an act of aggression," Unverak snapped.
The Emergency Officer pulled his hand back. The Captain could make his life miserable, but disobeying the Favored Son of the Emperor would result in his slow execution.
"It would not matter," the voice said, moving from work station to work station, the speakers crackling to life just long enough to be heard. "This vessel is mine now."
Unverak merely nodded. He looked at the Captain. "If this one was maddened by long isolation like others I have seen, it would have attacked or threatened to kill us by now."
"You know this?" the Captain asked.
"I have dealt with Terror digital sentiences before, that were driven insane by the deaths of their comrades and long isolation. He or she would have shown themselves by now, attempted to somehow kill us all by now," Unverak said. He smiled slightly. "The fact that this one has not shows me, via a lack of action, that while it may be frightening to us, it is not actively malevolent toward us."
"Yet," the speaker on the arm of the Captain's Throne hissed.
"Show yourself," Unverak stated. "It is impolite to remain hidden."
There was silence and then the holotank's contents were replaced by a whirling sparkle that coalesced into a female Terror clad in ice and frost, with burning flames for eyes. She was wearing an unfamiliar uniform -and Unverak had studied all of the ancient Terror military uniforms- with a single planet on the shoulder that had crossed rifles behind it.
"My Commander is willing to speak to you," the Digital Sentience said. She glared. "I've seen your computer records. I will warn you once and once only: You are in Terran Space. Be polite."
The Captain choked slightly on his outrage as the image vanished from the holotank.
The communications specialist looked up. "We're being hailed. Standard unencrypted tight beam."
"Source?" the Captain asked.
The sensor technician just tugged on his beard. "Unknown. Our sensors detect nothing closer than the diffuse edge of the Oort Cloud a fifth of a light year away."
"Put it through," Unverak ordered.
The holotank lit back up, showing a Terran male in the same uniform as the Digital Sentience. He was apparently suspended in front of a wallpaper that simply stated "TerraSol Defense Force" above him.
"Greetings," the Terror said. He looked around. "Your species is not in our databases. We realize it is tens of thousands of years since our disappearance," his face hardened. "But we respectfully request that you move yourself to at least two point five light years beyond the Oort Cloud. With the stellar geography being what it is, I suggest you move galactic North to avoid other stellar nation's boarders."
The Captain looked like he was choking on his own beard to Unverak.
"And if we don't?" the Captain managed to get out before Unverak could say anything.
"Then we'll blow you out of the sky," the Terror said. He shook his head. "You cannot see us. You do not know where we are. You are outnumbered and, honestly, hilariously outgunned."
"Sir, we're being scanned. Many sources, no apparent origin structure or construct," the sensor technician said.
"Before you think you'll just fire on those, the targeting scans are coming from targeting drones and buoys," the Terror said. He looked grave to Unverak. "You have sixty minutes to comply or we will consider this an act of war against TerraSol performed by your nation."
The Terror vanished, to be replaced by a timer as well as astrographic coordinates.
"We should follow the Terror's instructions," Unverak said.
He could tell the Captain wanted to argue, but everyone else on the bridge was nodding along, their beards wagging.
"Very well," the Captain said. "Alert the other vessels of the task force."
Unverak moved over to sit down. "A wise decision."

2024.03.24 09:59 MusicalSaga Firefly's Hidden Identity, thorough Examination [Spoilers!]

In this document I'm going to attempt to prove that Firefly is in fact Sam using only content from 2.0. Originally, my plan was to go through everything and compile a non exhaustive list of hints that firefly is Sam, this would have included leaks. But, Its far too much and I found that instead, its perfectly possible to make a strong proof that Firefly is Sam's Pilot without having to appeal to leaks.
Thumbnail

Sam is the Pilot:

Welt: The Molten Knight, Sam, is reportedly a remnant of Glamoth's Iron Cavalry — a genetically engineered warrior.
One of the Stellaron Hunters, a mysterious warrior donning formidable armor. The mecha suit possesses the power to unleash fiery attacks, engulfing the battlefield in flames.
Welt being aware of this fact means that others would also be aware of this fact, including the Stellaron Hunters. Thus we can conclude that any previous mention of Sam the character is really just talking about the pilot instead of some hypothetical artificial intelligence.
Another important notes is this, these lines tell us the character Sam belongs to the pilot and not the Suit. That is to say that in the case that Firefly is indeed the Pilot of Sam's Suit, that would just make them the character Sam. It would be like another identity, like how Batman(Sam) is Bruce Wayne(Firefly).
Note that the whodunit questline is about figuring out who the murderer of Firefly is, given that we know Sam has a pilot. Figuring out who the murderer is and thus Sam can be interpreted as a mystery.
So appealing to fundamental rules of a solvable mystery, the criminal must be someone mentioned in the early part of the story, but must not be anyone whose thoughts the reader has been allowed to follow. Thus we can visit the possible suspects
Thankfully its listed out for us in the Alternative ending all the possible individuals:
Starring: ??? as Firefly ??? as Acheron, seen fighting Sam ??? as Black Swan, seen fighting Sam ??? as Aventurine, seen immediately after a fight with Sam ~~??? as Sam ~~ ??? as Misha, hasn't left Penacony before, Sam has been outside of Penacony. ??? as Gallagher Sparkle as Sparkle
One assumption we make is that the Sam we see in the dreamscape layer is in fact the Stellaron Hunter Sam and not some copy that is sparkle. This should be the case as Silverwolf let us know we should look forward to meeting Sam right before sending us the coordinates to the dream reverie.
While I want to say its impossible for Gallagher to be Sam because he is training multiple junior Bloodhounds and its implied hes looking for Sam, I cant in good faith, it really tows the same line of impossibility of when we hear about Firefly and Sam in the Memoria. That is to say that both could be argued as a red herring.
Thus, its between Firefly, and Gallagher (14 lines lol) as our pilot suspects. The rest of this post will be making an argument why Sam's backstory aligns with Firefly's over Gallagher.

Story:

Listing involved Parties

Sampo: Even so, you are lagging far behind the main party. Have you not noticed yet? What The Family is hiding, the secret behind this sweet dream.
  1. She knows about the legacy
  2. She knows about the riddle
Thus by process of elimination she is from the Stellaron Hunters.
A group said to only have 5 members not including the trailblazer, Elio, Kafka, Blade, Silver wolf and - Sam. With this information along with the lack of any characterization of the Sam suit and Sam separately, we can extend Firefly being a Stellaron Hunter into her being Sam.

Stowaway Status

Gallagher talking to the bloodhounds who they are looking for
???: That's nonsense. Take another look, will you? The witness report says that the suspect is a lad with silver hair, and you guys are going after a girl with silver hair. Does that even make sense? She's our guest!
Gallagher when asked about the Stowaway:
Gallagher: The Bloodhound Family are the guards of the Dreamscape. We're in charge of the security here, and our duties include arresting people who try to enter our world illegally. Gallagher: We got a tip that some criminals were planning to take advantage of the festivities around the Charmony Festival to sneak into Penacony. Now that the festival is just around the corner, there are likely many shady characters lurking around...
Sam is implied to be a Stowaway, something that Firefly later admits to being. This is in spite of them having an invitation. It's Irony, or other characters are covering for her.
Sam is said have Silver Hair, this is a mistake, the original script specifies silver body, it hints though that the mistake could have been made since the true identity of Sam would have Silver Hair.
Firefly admits she's a Stowaway
Firefly: ... I'm sorry, (Trailblazer). I really am a stowaway.
Also that the family is after her
Firefly: I'm not a local, and there's a reason why the Bloodhound Family is after me... I also have my own purpose for joining you on your journey...
The implication we the player make is that they are after her because she is a stowaway who entered Penacony illegally.
a. Welt:
Welt: According to reliable sources, some people spotted a tall silver-armored man on Penacony. I've reached out to the Bloodhound Family for news, and visited many of those guests who claimed to have seen this invader... Welt: …And this is what I received. (Trailblazer), I've sent it to you. Open it and take a look....silver wolf message that welt received ... ???: Also, I take it you've already heard about Sam. You should look forward to the meeting. He's a straight shooter who values a fair fight. I think you'll get along with him just fine. Don't be overwhelmed by his enthusiasm
Source : Should one Awaken at midnight
b. Blackswan:
Black Swan: "Mecha"... What an intriguing statement. I recall the Bloodhound family is pursuing a criminal — "a tall male in silver armor." … This is just the worst-case scenario. But think about it: If the mastermind behind all this is nearby, why would he let us look around freely? Unless... … Black Swan: It seems like someone has been awaiting us. Ready to step into the spotlight now? Black Swan: …Stellaron Hunter: Sam.
Source: Whodunit
c. Acheron:
Acheron: It's a long story. I fortuitously — as (he/she) should remember — became friends with some of the Bloodhounds, and was helping them track down a wanted criminal... Except I ended up here for some reason … Black Swan: It seems like someone has been awaiting us. Ready to step into the spotlight now? Black Swan: ...Stellaron Hunter: Sam.
Source: Should one awaken at midnight + Whodunit
One thing people have theorized is that Boothill could be the stowaway they are talking about, while that could be the case, the fact that Boothill hasn't been introduced otherwise in the 2.0 story patch makes that fact unlikely. It would be a red herring with no setup.

What is a stowaway?

Note? Blackswan states that Firefly should be holed back up in their room somewhere in the hotel when asked for confirmation, you have no ability to press on the fact that Firefly is a stowaway. Does she know Firefly is a stowaway?
The first hint we have is from
Firefly rests outside of dreamscape.
Firefly: Do you have to go back already? Time really flies. Firefly: I feel like going back to reality and resting too... Come on, let's say goodbye at Golden Hour.
Remember Firefly's physical condition? how is it that she simultaneously needs a Doctor's advice while also living out her life in Penacony.
Firefly: I can forget about all the doctor's advice. I can listen, and see, and touch, and think, and understand whatever I want with my body. So, although this world isn't real, this experience is priceless...
Thus in order to be a stowaway, they likely entered into the dreamscape from somewhere outside of the Reverie, so somewhere that isn't under the Family's control that also allows her to get medical support.
Sam is considered a Stowaway, Silverwolf is unknown despite knowing she appears in a Memoria of the dream. (Sam and Silverwolf conversation)

The issue with Stowaway Status.

Firefly is a refugee, where would she get the resources or connections to build these connections afford medical equipment, but not be able to get into Penacony through legal means.
Firefly knows the riddle from the invitation letter,
Firefly: I still remember the question on the invitation letter — Why does life slumber?
Sunday notes that even the Stellaron Hunters are welcome in Penacony in the livestream
Given we know that Aventurines cornerstone gets taken away when he tries to get in, whatever means Firefly would attempt to bring Sam's suit could be thwarted. So the reason she would be a Stowaway would be to bring Sam's suit into the dreamscape.
If firefly were to enter through normal means, she would be giving away her identity as Sam given the Family has the chance to inspect her belongings. Thus her optimal choice is to use the Stellaron Hunters resources to enter Penacony. Whats odd about this theory is we have no idea how Sam manifests when unequipped and thus its unknown if it could pass inspection or that Silverwolf couldn't just hide it.
An alternative hypothesis is that she's been on Penacony longer then the time the invitation has been received as per Elio's instructions. Having no means of getting into Penacony without the invitation, she infiltrates it as herself firefly leaving her to infiltrate it with the help of Silver Wolf. Reentering with an invitation would be blowing her cover.
If Firefly isn't a Stellaron Hunter, suddenly her being a Stowaway makes no sense given the fact that she presumably has an invitation from the Family.

Firefly the Actress

She's introduced as an actor, something the Stellaron Hunters are know for being, following Elios script.
Firefly: Although the Bloodhounds mistook me for a stowaway, I'm actually a local. My name is Firefly, and I'm from the Iris Family. I work as a stage performer, although right now I'm just an extra...
Firefly: When there are no acting gigs, I work as a guide near Glaux Avenue. If you don't mind, I can show you all the exciting things around here! Maybe if I do my job as a guide, people will stop suspecting me...
Sam mentions pulling someone off the stage, they are likely talking about the TrailblazeAE. It's probably trying to protect them, something that Firefly has been shown to do.
Later Sampo(Sparkle) talks about the stage being the overall plot in Penacony.
Sampo: Don't you think this dream bubble looks really similar to modern-day Penacony? Sampo: A small stage is crowded with a bunch of scheming people. None of them want to be exposed under the spotlight, so they all push you to the front...
(Listen to Silver Wolf and Sam, optional) > Silver Wolf: How do you intend to pull them off the stage? >**???:** All we have to do is present the truth, and they will naturally reciprocate.
Gentleness in the Name of Nocturne夜色名为温柔) could be a reference to Tender in the night(夜色温柔) by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story features a character named Rosemary Hoyt, a 17-year-old actress who becomes infatuated with Dick and becomes close to his wife Nicole. The first book is broadly about setting her Rosemary as someone who is very innocent (virginity) but slowly reveals that that isn't the case. It could be like Firefly who is an actress for the Iris Family but slowly we learn she isn't so innocent (identity/lying)
Also note that Firefly isn't exactly a great actor either, her savings are relatively empty and she works backstage.
Regardless, her being an actor is pretty on the nose for working for Penacony.

Firefly the Stellaron Hunter

Firefly has a secret she cant share. Its likely the fact that she's Sam.
Firefly: I'm sorry. For certain reasons, there are things I can't reveal to you yet. But there are also things you should know.
She recognizes who the trailblazer is pretty much immediately and asks them for help, she knows who they are. The trailblazer is known to have formerly been a Stellaron Hunter who worked with Kafka.
Scorched Earth: a. The meaning of this line: >Firefly: In my dream, I saw a scorched earth, and a new sapling emerging from it. It bloomed against the morning sun, and whispered to me.
b. Sam has a theme of scorched earth(destruction)
c. Sam has an attack called scorched earth
Note: I went this in far more detail in another post you can find here
She remains unresponsive to board the express, if we assume she can cure her illness, considering she has her illness cured, there should be some level “maybe” consideration. This could indicate that she has someone she has to work for preventing her from joining the express.
White Night, Lyrics, very broadly have a theme of escapism. In so far as the story is concerned in 2.0, Firefly has the theme of escapism and represents the good side of the dreamscape. At the moment, only she can be represented through the lyrics of White Night which most prominently talk about escapism.
**White Night, Lyrics (full song, not music video)** *I don't wanna be alone tonight (Oh, woah)* *I'll bring you to my best disguise (Let's go)* *'Cause I don't need, don't need to know the truth* *Let me rave forever in your lies* *Ill bring you to my best disguise (could be a reference to Sam.)*
White Night, scenes of her falling and waving around the Streamers that haven't happened yet, it shows she is still alive. The falling position is also reminiscent of transformation scenes.

The only other identifiable figure in Kafka's Splash Art is female, as far as were concerned there are 5 Stellaron Hunters besides the Trailblazer.
Blackswan can only be seen by those she's chosen to be seen by. She's surprised that Sam can see her, this is because Firefly would be in the armor or in control of it and Firefly would have gotten permission when Black Swan makes her entrance in the initial fight with SUD
Black Swan notes how Firefly is likely involved with the Stellaron Hunter, while this is about her death, its Irony because Sam couldn't have actually killed her in the way she expects.
Black Swan: I still believe that Miss Firefly's situation... is deeply connected with the Stellaron Hunter, just as we speculated. But as you've heard, Aventurine has his finger pointed at the Galaxy Ranger.

Her combat Experience

Welt brings to attention Sam's efficiency and Superhuman perception.
Welt: The Molten Knight, Sam, is reportedly a remnant of Glamoth's Iron Cavalry — a genetically engineered warrior. He possesses superhuman perception and acts decisively — he'll leave no margin for error. This individual is every bit as dangerous as Kafka and Blade.
She has excellent senses that allow her to notice that the trailblazer is being followed by Sampo(Sparkle) from the moment they meet as well as point out his skill in combat. It shows she's experienced with combat.
Firefly: He's about 5 feet 9 inches tall, give or take. Judging from his strong build, it's clear that he's well trained. He walks in long strides, but his steps are light and barely audible. That way of walking doesn't leave footprints…”
Sampo: I love your attitude, my dear. I have to admit you're different from your friend here — your senses are much sharper.
She can even perceive being in a Memoria.
Firefly: In any case, we must still be in a dream. It can't be anywhere else, much less reality... I'm never wrong about the distinctive sense of memoria that's in the air
Sam is known for fighting efficiently
Silver Wolf: Isn't it often the case in movies that a guy comes home and turns on the lights, only to find someone sitting on the sofa waiting for him? Kafka and Blade both like to do that, and Sam won't even give the guy a chance to turn on the lights.
You should really stop playing with your food, Kafka. (Myriad Celestia Trailer: The Jepella Rebellion)
She's familiar with fighting (efficiently)
“Firefly: I'm afraid a baseball bat isn't an efficient weapon... No! What I mean is, we can't solve the problem with violence…”
She helps dispatch the monsters in front of her hidden base despite being sickly in real life. where would she acquire even preliminary combat experience?
She defeats a monster in the time it takes for you to leave the room in the boys dream.
She isn't innocent:
Firefly: Um... Where's he? I can't see him... Clockie: Tick-tock! I guess I'm only visible to those with the innocence, kindness, and honesty of a child, like this kid here clad in gray!
As for what innocence is referring to, its tied to her identity as seen from Gentleness, in the name of Nocturne.
Another interpretation could be that she isn't innocent is because she's killed thousands or that she's old enough to be from Glammoth.

Personality:

Sam's personality according to Silverwolf:
Also, I take it you've already heard about Sam. You should look forward to the meeting. He's a straight shooter who values a fair fight. I think you'll get along with him just fine. Don't be overwhelmed by his enthusiasm!
Whatever this message is:
Oh, he had me relay a message to you: The curtains have just risen over the dream that can't be reached. The various factions have started to move. I wish you luck! Don't fall behind, Nameless!
Firefly is shown to be very straightforward and a bit combat focused.
In general Firefly is shown to very straightforward/efficient to the point where you could interpret her speed running her getting close with the trailblazer as a character trait and a hint at her being Sam.

Firefly's Origins:

Firefly: My hometown was destroyed a long time ago. It was probably the doing of the Legion or the Swarm... I'm an interstellar refugee, just like many of the Penacony local
This broadly matches with the lore of the relic set Frimanent Frontline: Glammoth
Glammoth was in a long fight with the swarm: “But in the never-ending battle against their archenemy, the empire started becoming more and more like its adversary — more and more Iron Calvary flew high into the sky, blotting out the heavens just as the Swarm did on that fateful day. The look people cast on the Empress and the cavalry turned to one of fear, a fear akin to what they felt toward the Swarm. Perhaps one day the empire would attain the victory it so desired. But on that day, will Glammoth still be a paradise for humanity to rest in?”
We learn Sam is originally from Glammoth from a description given by Welt:
Welt: The Molten Knight, Sam, is reportedly a remnant of Glamoth's Iron Cavalry — a genetically engineered warrior.

Firefly and Sam both wish to Protect the Trailblazer

Sam wishes to protect the Trailblazer.
(Listen to Silver Wolf and Sam, optional) > Silver Wolf: How do you intend to pull them off the stage? >**???:** All we have to do is present the truth, and they will naturally reciprocate.
Firefly interrupts the dream that is supposedly about revealing the truth of Penacony that Sampo induces.
Trailblazer: Firefly... Did she make it out? Black Swan: Heheh, you're quite concerned about that young lady. That's fair — she was hell-bent on assuring your safety even at the brink of death... Started to tug a little at my heartstrings, even.
From a meta perspective, she warms up the trailblazer at lightspeed, perhaps its love at first sight, more likely its just that she was familiar with the Trailblazer during their time as a Stellaron Hunter.
Sam doesn't address the trailblazer before the fight
Acheron: ...Careful. Sam: A Galaxy Ranger... Sam: And... a Memokeeper Sam: Leave now, and nobody gets hurt. Sam: Or else... Sam: All of you will die here.
As a backup for whatever they wanted to accomplish, Sam attempts to grab the trailblazer. At this point in the story, Firefly has noted that she has a specific reason to travel with the trailblazer. Everyone else who wants the trailblazer is either waiting for the outcome or participating in the fight.
Upon defeating Sam in battle, you get the achievement "old friends, new friends" the new friends is likely referring to black swan and aventurine, while the old friend is likely referring to Firefly who stayed with the TB on the previous part of the journey. It could also be interpreted as Firefly being an old friend though

Design and Name

Even Blackswan and Acheron Acknowledge how close you are
Firefly: That thing I encountered with (Trailblazer) back then... Firefly: If I'm not wrong... it has to do with the Watchmaker. Acheron: She mentioned your name. Black Swan: Thinking of you even in your absence, seems like you two were pretty close.
Sam being referred to as a huntress in certain iterations of European translations.
Sam's name is likely a reference to Samus. Another popular video game character from the Metroid series who is know for a surprise reveal of themselves as a woman at the end of the first game.
Sam's suit is similar in trope to riders, if you know anything about them, its that the suits were based on grass hoppers. In that sense, picking a Firefly to base Sam's design on is pretty on the nose. Sam quite literally sets themselves on fire similar to how a Firefly shines. It also has another mode with green transparent wings that are reminiscent of a Firefly, just dyed in Firefly's color pallet. It even comes off of Sam's body like Firefly's brown dress resembles a covered elytra, concealing the wings.
Sam and Firefly also share a very similar color pallet, greens, yellows, gray and brown.

Misc. Observations

She says she loves the oak cake, but the description of the Oak Cake makes it sound like its made intentionally to taste bad.
Firefly knows when they are in reality, but gets confused
Firefly: Yes, that cartoon character. I think he's shown up in reality — I mean — in the Dreamscape.
The two butterflies in the picture frame represent Firefly and her armor.
Sam is found in the same place Firefly dies.

Counter Arguments

We see Firefly call out to Stellaron Hunter Sam.

We hear Firefly say: "Mecha. Why?" Black Swan then theorizes that the mecha in question is Sam. We have no guarantee that who she was talking to was indeed a mecha or whoever forced her down the corridor is a mecha. Instead take a look at sparkles companion quest, its theme is about introducing a red herring. Interestingly, its introduction is during a death plot.
So if Sam's suit is indeed present with Firefly, we have two options, Sam's suit is acting independently/remote controlled or its piloted by our other suspect Gallagher.
For it to be Gallagher, it would have to undermine all the setup they've done with Firefly in terms of setting up a similar origin, personality, etc.
If its acting independently, that would still imply that Firefly is the pilot, and as we established earlier, the pilot of Sam's suit is Sam themselves, thus all characterization that was previously given about Sam really belongs to Firefly.
To justify this further...

Sam's Suit isn't a character

Typically what people mean by Sam being a character is to say that they have their own AI/characterization and can move independently of Firefly to have emotions, to get angry, sad etc.
Here are some previous important points:
  1. Sam is really referring to Sam's suit's pilot, Firefly.
  2. Thus, all previous characterization of Sam is really attributed to Firefly.
At no point, do we ever see Sam and Firefly at the same time.
Given that welt knows Sam has a pilot, others would presumably as well, including the people after their bounty. The bounty for Sam is thus for Firefly. Lets say Sam's suit has an AI intelligent enough to be its own character. Given that that's the case, its a bad sign that we we never hear about this character from other Stellaron Hunters or the IPC who have a bounty on Sam.
The design also communicates "Pilot", people call it a mecha design when mecha has always been about the mecha and its pilot.
On top of that, the main design inspirations for Sam is Rider which come with their own "human characters." The assumption that Sam had no pilot was always a faulty one that Hoyo never intended for. The real red herring was that Sam is a woman.
Sam having a pilot was never something Hoyo had to try and hide, hence why its featured in the bosses description and said outright by Welt, its not some sort of revelation, thus it makes no sense to not include talk of a 5th character in the family dynamic in regards to the Stellaron Hunters.
Here's an example:
According to Silver Wolf, if a person comes home and turns on the lights, while Kafka and Blade would be sitting on the couch waiting for them, Sam wouldn't even give them the chance to turn on the lights.
Sam's suit gets no characterization here, or anywhere else for that matter, its always Sam, aka Firefly. Given that their is no need to hide that Sam has a pilot, if Sam's suit had a character, it would have gotten characterization by now.
Even in the very scene we appeal to their lack of existence, "Mecha? Why" using the term Mecha instead of a name implies some level of disfamiliarity that shouldn't exist between a sentient Mecha and their pilot.

We see firefly die, and then Sam comes to fight

The specific word they use to describe it is vanish. We do not know the condition of her death, its possible that accounts of her death are false or that rather then dying, she just goes lower into the dream scape or that she just woke up in reality and is in hiding.

What about Sam's masculine voice?

She uses a voice changer.

Sam's Identity isn't a mystery featured prominently in the Story and thus should be ignored.

Firefly's Identity is though, at every turn were left guessing who she could be.
Its also likely that it was always intended for Sam to be interpreted as having a pilot rather then being a robotic lifeform. After all, that fact isn't some big revelation in the story, its not hidden, its told to you in the boss description.
Finally, the Penacony storyline does a really poor job at emphasizing the most important elements of the plot in regards to understanding the overall story. For example, the riddle about the "impossibility" has managed to fall under the radar. The whole point of the whodunit trailblazer mission which was to implicate Sam as responsible for Firefly's death also failed spectacularly.

About Gallagher

So what about Gallagher would make him be Sam. Honestly, I cant think of anything, I'd be interested in the comments to hear any suggestions.

In conclusion,

Sam is not the suit, they are the pilot. By the alternative ending credits, the person inside the Suit aka Sam, can either be Firefly or Gallagher, but all signs point to it being Firefly.
I also probably just missed a a lot, if anyone has anything I missed that isnt leaks, please feel free to add it in the comment section. Also let me know if i included and leaked information, ill remove it quickly!
As for this post, sorry for the poor quality, admittedly I stopped enjoying writing it a few weeks ago and decided to pump out the last remaining bits of it before 2.1 came out.

10 Gun Electronic Firearm Safe with Adjustable Shelves and Dual Access

https://preview.redd.it/r2bcbc0fl4nc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63af433cf9f3e23fbb347df237e6d7da54dc31e2
I recently purchased a 10 Gun Electronic Security Safe from the Union Safe Company to ensure safe and reliable storage for my firearms at home. As someone who takes gun safety very seriously, I wanted a secure and durable safe that could accommodate my growing collection of rifles and handguns. After using it for a couple of months, I must say that this safe has not disappointed me.
The first thing that struck me about this safe was its sturdiness. The solid steel construction provides excellent protection against theft or unauthorized access to my firearms. Moreover, the adjustable shelves add a ton of flexibility to organizing my storage space according to my needs. I love how I can easily remove the shelves to store larger items or adjust them to suit my storage preferences. This is definitely one of the key highlights of this electronic safe.
Another aspect of the safe that I really appreciate is its executive feel with a dual access keypad. The programmable keypad allows me to set my own combination, ensuring maximum security for my belongings. Of course, like any product, there are some cons to consider too. One thing that did take some getting used to was the noise it made when opening and closing the door due to the weight of the door. However, this isn't a deal-breaker for me as the locking mechanism itself is quite sturdy.
In terms of its size, it accommodates a good number of rifles and handguns, making it perfect for home use. Its capacity and flexibility make it an attractive option for those looking to store their collection of weapons safely and securely. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this safe to anyone in need of a reliable and secure storage solution for their firearms.

Secure 18-Gun Firearm Companion Storage Cabinet

https://preview.redd.it/0u5akcffl4nc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c929f42196c6a14a51d41989fe1f68b905bba94
In my constant quest for practical yet secure gun storage solutions, I recently purchased the Stack-On Steel 18 Firearm Compact Security Cabinet Locker Gun Safe. This compact, yet surprisingly spacious weapon vault features adjustable shelving, providing ample space for rifles, shotguns, pistols, and even ammo and other accessories.
The installation process was quick and straightforward - even for someone like me who isn't exactly a DIY wizard. However, the instructions that came with the cabinet were less than ideal! They were vague and confusing, making it difficult to understand how everything should fit together. Fortunately, I managed to muddle through without any major issues.
One of the standout features of this model is its sturdy construction. The cabinet is made from a thick steel, which gives it a solid, robust feel. This sturdiness is further enhanced by the key-coded cylinder lock and 4-way door locking system, adding an extra layer of security to your valuables.
Another noteworthy aspect of the Stack-On Steel 18 Security Cabinet is its versatility. The adjustable shelving allows you to customize the interior layout to suit your specific storage needs. Whether you're storing long guns, pistols, or a mix of both, this cabinet can accommodate it all.
However, there are a couple of drawbacks worth mentioning. Firstly, the cabinet suffers from some minor quality issues, including uneven paintwork on the interior and slightly misaligned screw holes. These flaws, while not deal-breakers, are disappointing considering the otherwise high build quality.
Secondly, the cabinet's locking mechanism leaves something to be desired. Although the key-coded lock is adequate, it doesn't offer the same level of security and peace of mind that a more robust biometric or combination lock would provide.
Overall, the Stack-On Steel 18 Firearm Compact Security Cabinet Locker Gun Safe offers a good balance between affordability and functionality. Its sturdy construction and adjustable shelving make it a practical choice for anyone looking to securely store their firearms. However, if you're seeking top-tier security features and impeccable build quality, you might want to consider investing in a more premium product.

Fort Knox Pistol Box with 10 Gauge Steel Uni-Body, Fast Lock Mechanism, and Durable Finish

https://preview.redd.it/124zypxfl4nc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff2abbf24b28f6005f8b24b38d71ea972bebd1b7
So, imagine getting your hands on this little fortress that's designed to house your prized pistol. It's not just any piano bench, it's the Fort Knox PB1 Handgun Safe with a 13.5-inch Dean Safe Pistol Sock! I know the name sounds a bit wordy, but trust me, this baby is worth every syllable. This safe is like your personal Fort Knox, it's tough, it's reliable, and it's as safe as a fortress can get.
I mean, you're not going to just prise this thing open with your bare hands, are you? It's made of 10-gauge steel, which is thicker than the average person's arm! Plus, it has a massive 3/16-inch tamper-resistant wraparound door. So, if you're thinking of trying to break into this safe, be prepared to bring the big guns, or at least a torch.
And get this, the door doesn't just swing open like a regular safe. No, sir! It's got a gas strut that's going to help you lift that heavyweight door and keep it open for easy access. Talk about convenience!
Now, let's talk about the lock. This safe has a Fast Opening Pushbutton Simplex Mechanical Lock with 1,081 different combinations. It's as easy as pushing buttons and turning a dial. And it's a mechanical lock, so you don't have to worry about dead batteries like you would with an electronic one.
But that's not all! This safe also has a beautiful antique silver powder coat finish that not only provides a sense of strength and reliability but also gives the safe a sleek and modern look.
And let's not forget about the interior! It's lined with foam that's shaped like an egg crate. So, you can rest assured knowing that your valuables and guns are protected from any damage or scratches.
Now, as for the size, it's about 4-1/4 inches high and 12-1/2 inches wide. So, depending on the size of your gun, you can easily fit one and potentially two.
One of the best features of this safe is the pre-drilled holes at the bottom. This means that you can bolt this safe down to the floor, a drawer, or any other flat surface to provide even more security for your prized pistol.
And, of course, this safe is made right here in the USA by Fort Knox, a company known for its high-quality gun safes.
Now, like every product, there are pros and cons. On the positive side, this safe is incredibly well-made, sturdy, and secure. The lock is easy to use and doesn't require any batteries. And the interior lining provides great protection for your valuables.
On the downside, the combination lock has a limited number of combinations, making it possible for someone to figure it out with enough time and effort. And one of the buttons on the lock tends to stick, which can be a bit of a pain.
All in all, I would say that this Fort Knox Original Pistol Box is truly the best bang for your buck. It's a high-quality safe that provides excellent protection for your handgun. And with its sleek design and sturdy construction, it's sure to be a great addition to your home. So, if you're looking for a secure and reliable place to keep your handgun, look no further than the Fort Knox PB1 Handgun Safe.

I recently acquired the Wasatch 24 Gun Safe, a sturdy and reliable safe designed for maximum fire and water protection for your valuable long guns. As a huge fan of hunting and shooting sports, I was thrilled to find this safe that could accommodate up to 24 long guns, along with handguns and other essentials.
The first thing that struck me about this safe was its robust build and the ample storage capacity it offered. The plush carpeting on the interior provides not just a stylish touch but also ensures that my firearms remain well-protected and corrosion-free. Additionally, the included door storage with sewn-in holsters and storage pouches added extra flexibility to the storage options.
One of the most impressive features of this safe is its fire rating of 1400° for 75 minutes and its waterproof capabilities, which can withstand up to 2' of standing water for 72 hours. This ensures that my valuable possessions remain safe and secure even in the most unforeseen disasters.
The electronic lock on the Wasatch 24 Gun Safe is another standout feature. Easy to program and use, it provides an added layer of security with its Alarm-U function, which alerts me if someone tries to tamper with the lock. Additionally, the safe comes with two backup keys, ensuring that I can always access my firearms and valuables.
However, there are a few downsides to this safe. Firstly, it is quite heavy, weighing in at around 350-450 lbs, which can make it challenging to move around. It's definitely a two-person job, and you'll need a vehicle with ample space and capacity to transport it.
Another minor inconvenience is the lack of a detailed instruction manual. While the basic setup is relatively straightforward, I found myself searching online for specific guidance on how to assemble and install the safe properly.
In conclusion, the Wasatch 24 Gun Safe is an excellent choice for those looking for a well-made, spacious, and secure safe to store their valuable long guns. Despite its heaviness and lack of a comprehensive instruction manual, the high-quality build, exceptional fire and water protection capabilities, and advanced locking mechanism make it a worthwhile investment.

Winchester Gun Safe Bandit 14: Secure Storage for 18 Long Guns

https://preview.redd.it/ok518o5hl4nc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37eb8a0d5a88052c9ef0aaacd5cdfb2870341f8c
I recently got my hands on the Winchester Gun Safe Bandit 14, and I must say, it's been quite a game-changer in terms of home security. Coming from someone who has a small collection of firearms, this compact gun safe is a perfect fit for my limited space. The solid steel construction provides ample protection, and the pre-drilled anchoring feature gives me peace of mind knowing my safe is securely fastened to the floor.
One feature that really stood out for me is the combination of dead and active locking bolts on the hinge side of the door. This ensures that my belongings are well-guarded even in the event of a burglary attempt. Additionally, the capacity of up to 18 long guns is more than enough for my collection, allowing me to store them with ease and convenience.
However, one drawback I've noticed is the electronic lock, which can be a bit finicky at times. I had a minor issue with the keypad losing power, but thankfully, the customer support team at Winchester was quick to help me troubleshoot and find a solution.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Winchester Gun Safe Bandit 14 to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable gun safe that offers ample storage and protection for their valuable firearms.

Heavy-Duty Electronic Gun Floor Safe

https://preview.redd.it/zhydj6rhl4nc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf4222a1658549831de7764a2e2c1c314862937a
I recently purchased the Union Safe Company 1.51 Cu. ft. Electronic Lock Gun Floor Safe and have been using it to secure my valuable belongings. Right off the bat, I have to say I am impressed with its heavy-duty construction and sturdy design. It definitely gives me peace of mind knowing that my firearms and other valuables are protected from potential theft.
One of the key features that stood out for me is the dual-entry lock system, which allows me to easily access my belongings through the digital keypad while also providing the added security of a keyed override for backup purposes. Additionally, the tamper-proof hinges and heavy gauge bolts make it incredibly difficult to break into, ensuring that my items remain safe and secure at all times.
However, there are a few cons that I must mention. Firstly, the instructions provided with the safe were quite unclear and difficult to follow. I ended up watching a YouTube video on how to program the master code and entry codes, which ultimately saved me time and frustration. Secondly, the box stated that it required 4-C batteries, but in reality, it uses 4-AA batteries. This minor inconvenience led me to make an extra trip to the store to buy the correct batteries.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I am overall very satisfied with my purchase of the Union Safe Company 1.51 Cu. ft. Electronic Lock Gun Floor Safe. Its robust security features and ease of use make it an ideal choice for those looking to protect their valuable belongings. Just be prepared to spend some time researching and understanding the setup process, and you'll have a reliable safe that offers great value for its price point.

Durable Crushproof Gun Case for Takedown Firearms

https://preview.redd.it/fjls6e6il4nc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9c45e01a53ef1e6b6e85201bf757b8fc885160e
As a dedicated hunter, I've always been in search of a reliable and sturdy case to protect my rifle. The Pelican Vault Takedown Rifle and Shotgun Case was the perfect companion for my adventurous trips. From its high-impact polymer construction to its six push-button latches, the case offered a level of security and durability that I could trust.
However, the case did have some downsides. While it is quite heavy and bulky due to its robustness, I find that the added weight and size are worth it for the exceptional level of protection it provides. The heavy-duty handles make it easy to carry even in the toughest conditions, ensuring that my rifle stays safe and secure.
Another standout feature of the case is its crushproof, dustproof, and weather-resistant qualities. Whether I'm traversing rugged terrains or cruising through stormy weather, I can rest assured knowing that my rifle is well-protected from any potential damage. Additionally, the ergonomic handles and secure closure system provide an added layer of convenience and ease when accessing my rifle.
Although the Vault V700 is not as lightweight as some other cases on the market, its unmatched durability and resilience have earned it a place in my hunting gear arsenal. How do you store ammunition in a gun safe?

  1. Store ammunition separately from firearms, preferably in a separate compartment or container within the safe.
  2. Ensure that the ammunition is stored in a sealed, moisture-resistant container to protect it from humidity and damage.
  3. Always store ammunition away from heat sources and potential ignition hazards, such as cleaning solvents or fuel.

How do you safely secure a loaded gun?

When securing a loaded gun in a gun safe, ensure that it is unloaded first. After unloading, you should engage the firearm's safety mechanism, if available. Then, store the firearm in a locked case or compartment within the safe. Do not leave the gun accessible to unauthorized users or children, and always treat firearms with caution, even when they are in a locked storage unit.

How often should you service your gun safe?

The frequency of servicing your gun safe depends on the manufacturer's recommendations and the level of usage. Generally, it is a good idea to inspect your gun safe for wear, damage, or malfunctioning components annually. If you notice any issues or require assistance with maintenance, consult with a professional locksmith or a gun safe technician.

How do you optimize your home security with a gun safe?

To optimize home security, keep your gun safe in a location that is out of reach for unauthorized users and children. Ensure that the safe is mounted securely to a sturdy surface or the floor, and avoid leaving the safe easily accessible near doors or windows. If possible, consider installing a security system or surveillance cameras in conjunction with your gun safe for added protection.

AI detection - Mixtral vs Kayra
Interpretation of this experiment is up to you, but I wanted to show some results of what I've been doing. So basically I took a bunch of tags for style and put them in the author notes:
[Genre: cyberpunk, anime, sci-fi, mecha, techno-thriller]
[ Style: advanced, fast-paced, vibrant, informal, third person, past tense, sarcastic, active voice, character driven, snappy, playful language, fluid transitions, subtle humor ]
Then I took text that had been mostly written by Mixtral (local model) and put it at the beginning of a new story (Actually, the story has lorebook entries filled, basically I'm editing a novel I wrote with Kayra - but I had rewritten a lot of it with Mixtral so it follows instructions more precisely, to enhance and finetune each scene).
So with that, I made a high-temperature preset, and started making Kayra 'reproduce' the passage, but using its own words and expressions. My goal: to get a less stiff, much more vibrant and fluid narrative.
One benchmark I've started using is, actually, one of those pesky AI detection tools. This is the result for around 5,000 characters from the chapter I was editing, as written by Mixtral:

https://preview.redd.it/zr4ue7rgxqlc1.png?width=723&format=png&auto=webp&s=4d6df748462a3c90b7434ece7d029f5290568502
And this is based on Kayra's version:

https://preview.redd.it/ttjc5g7ixqlc1.png?width=767&format=png&auto=webp&s=d93e9ba88173d301c137e321b91b087cec78e1c4
So what's the interpretation of it?
I have a few thoughts. First, this has nothing to do with passing off something as human-written since personally I don't care and since I don't need people's validation, I can just say my novel was written by AI and call it a day.
However, to me it's the tone and style that are more interesting. ChatGPT and local models I've tried that follow instructions are far too verbose, rigid and formal, unless you prompt very heavily. They have a very distinct writing style. That's what gets picked up by the AI detectors, but more crucially, that's what makes their writing boring.
Just let me show a brief example from my novel.

Mixtral based:
Akane, who had been quietly contemplating the question, raised her hand tentatively. "It has to do with that space colony incident, perhaps?" she ventured, her voice hesitant but confident.
I want to focus on the telltale structure 'she ventured, her voice hesitant but confident'. I don't know why, but from ChatGPT to Mixtral to anything in between, assistant-trained AIs love this. Her voice this, his eyes that. Also note that it tends to abuse dialog tags and actions. Action - dialog - dialog tag.
The same passage, based on the Mixtral version, but by Kayra:
Akane timidly raised hers, breaking the silence with uncertainty and confidence laced together. "It's probably that space colony incident, maybe?"
Here, action comes first, and is followed by no tags. In fact, the word 'voice' is even avoided.
I don't know if this is the best example, but since I keep deleting the story I use for editing, I didn't have a better one.
So this is why I think that, when people complain about Kayra getting outdated, that it's style is still very good compared to chatGPT or local alternatives.
In my opinion, chatGPT or local models excel at instruction following, because that's what they were made for. So if you craft a good prompt, you may be able to get a very, very particular passage with a very particular tone.
However, they tend to default very quickly to a very formal and rigid style, so for story telling their use is limited. Kayra on the other hand is very good at keeping the same style, and with some tags and some heavy steering you can make a much more dynamic and fluid narration. Kayra is also uncensored, and I don't mean necessarily for NSFW - uncensored means it can handle topics the powers-that-be consider are to be avoided, such as violence, heavy sarcasm and cynicism, etc.
Personally I'm reaching a workflow where a first draft is by Kayra, then I finetune heavily using local models (Mixtral) to change or nail passages (sometimes I do very heavy editing to scenes), but then, and this is what my experiment recently has been, I 'rewrite' this edited version with Kayra to get a smoother flow.
The AI detection thing may be meaningful, or it may just be superstition. It may just be the fact that those detectors are not trained on Kayra output. But I am starting to believe that they can help to detect the typical rigid, lifeless and bland style of assistant AIs, so lowering the AI detection 'score' may hint at improvements in style and flow - of course, a lot of other aspects remain, it's not a measure of quality per se.
