2024.05.15 00:19 Matster04 AFFORDABLE AWD, WHAT SHOULD I BUY?

Hey, I'm looking to buy my first car right out the car retail, in Canada, Quebec. I make approximately $1200 CAD bi-weekly and still live at my parents.
I want to be able to pay it fully by the time im out (about 2 to 3 years). I preferably want an awd and something below 50% my current salary if financed for 2 or 3 years, 4 MAX. I already have 15,000$ as cash-down ready without emptying my pockets.
Two cars I have my sight on are the Toyota Corolla SE AWD Hybride and the Hyundai Ionic 6 (which is a little over budget but electric).
Are there any other suggestions? Which should i choose if these are good choices? And lastly, should I even consider these considering my budget? Im a 19m.
Ps: I prefer having a hatchback or sedan/coupe and preferably not an SUV

2024.05.15 00:19 No_Union816 Loud pop and major oil leak. What could have happened?

Hello. My car is Toyota Avensis T25 2006 1.8ZZ-FE engine. I went to service to change oil and oil filter. After that when driving on a highway at ~2500-3000 rpm I got a loud pop, smoke from under the car and when I stopped a huge oil spill appeared from under the engines right side (passenger side). I looked under the car and it seemed that it leaked oil from the position of oil drain plug. I parked car and came next day to tow it back to service. It started normally and oil was not leaking anymore. Mechanic told me that there he was unable to find any issues whatsoever and suspected stuck PCV valve which caused excessive crankcase gasses. When I asked if he found where the oil was leaking from, he said that he was unable to locate but due to high pressure it could be any weak spot - like crankshaft seal leak. He also said that he only added 2 liters of oil (total volume is 4 liters) so not all oil leaked. So after refilling he let me go and problem no longer present for a week already. No oil leaks are noticed now. Of course, I haven't tried to push harder on RMP.
Is it possible that "weak spot" the oil was leaking from sealed itself, because not all oil was lost and after oil refill there are no leaks anymore. Also I tried to test PCV system by disconnecting valve and doing "shake test" and it was fine for now. Also it looks like PCV system works correctly as cant feel suction of air from the hose that is connected to air intake before throttle valve (to the filtered air hose) and vacuum is created at the hose connected to intake manifold and PCV valve.
All this situation for me looks a bit suspicious as I thought the problem may be with oil drain plug gasket - wrong torque or maybe old gasket was not replaced or even removed. In this case I would expect all oil to leak, but I am not even sure anymore if it was not a case. Is there any possible causes for that or someone is trying to cover their mistakes (don't want to blame anyone, but I can't find any other explanation why problem just resolved itself).

2024.05.15 00:17 PyroIsSpai Are UFOs impacted by energies and gravitational anomalies generated by fault lines? A few new clues and questions from a claimed UFO Program leaker on a similar subreddit.

0. High level summary

I propose that fault lines may play a significant and under documented role in what is happening with UFOs and specifically the impact of fault lines on some number of UFO related crashes. I suspect energetic effects from fault lines and gravity effects from mass variances in fault lines (especially while active) impact UFO/NHI navigational systems. They may do things like routing around, or via, fault lines.

1. A new leaker: Dijkstra's algorithm and Diablo Canyon.

On May 13th, 2024, a claimed leaker on UFO/NHI related programs posted on /Aliens with details on their history with the "Program".
It's a huge volume of data but one very particular passage instantly stuck out to me:
"The craft use a system that originally befuddled generations of researchers, but it's essentially a 3D dijkstra algorithm. It finds points around the craft, and chooses the most efficient possible route through space time to get to that point. Some of the parameters it uses to gauge efficiency are totally unknown to us and are a serious point of contention. It's not autonomy, but rather obstacle avoidance not unlike what you would see in a self-driving car. But, the self driving car could go through air, space and water without worrying about what medium its in. Additionally, the algo accounts for the crafts place in time."
And then this surprising sentence shortly after:
"Although the algo is extremely effective, Nuclear explosions and experiments somehow interfere with this navigation. Craft particularly avoid Diablo Canyon, even if we put something they really want there."
So, this Dijkstra's algorithm and Diablo Canyon.
I can find not one single prior reference to this anywhere, ever, in all of Ufology prior to that Reddit post.
I think this is entirely new, or new to the Internet for UFO topics.
In a 3D version of Dijkstra's algorithm, the algorithm extends from two-dimensional plane navigation to three-dimensional environments, making it suitable for applications such as drone flight paths, underwater vehicle navigation, or spacecraft trajectory planning. The algorithm begins at a starting node, exploring all neighboring nodes and continuously updating the shortest known distances from the start to each node, considering all possible paths. By repeating this process until the destination node is reached, the algorithm ensures that the path with the minimal total distance or cost is selected, taking into account the complexities of moving through 3D space. So, we have the introduction of a known means of navigation, that does 4D (by inclusion of a temporal parameter) mapping in this model.
Then we have the inclusion of Diablo Canyon -- but there are six of these in North America. Three of these are very close to government sites.
Which could the leaker be talking about? And why is it interesting in the context of UFOs?
Why would a UFO avoid a canyon?

2. Energy fields, UFO navigation and "fault lines" in gravity.

There are numerous reports and stories of things like claimed lasers, directed energy weapons/fields, and even allegedly things like RADAR having some manner of detecable impact on navigational capabilities of UFOs/NHI craft. The lore is full of this topic over time, and it aligns substantially with the scientific backgrounds of people known to be involved, like Sean M. Kirkpatrick.
This caught my eye as I've been doing a lot of reading on certain much lesser-known effects of fault lines, after I learned that the home and neighborhood I lived in as a child, where a group of us saw a "saucer", was literally sat atop a small land mass completely encircled like an island by fault lines. This is not unique--there are others. But this was a wild surprise to me, and especially when the flight path of the ship we saw... once I saw the fault lines path/heading...
It was the same route. The thing we saw, once I saw the fault line maps... it was like looking at a snippet of a Google Maps route that the UFO took, for the duration of our experience seeing it. I did not know this for decades.
For the curious, the bread crumb that led down this path was not this whistleblower, fault lines, or my own experience. It was studying Lagrange Points.
What's a Lagrange point?
Positions in space where the gravitational forces of two large bodies, like Earth and the Moon, balance out the centripetal force felt by a smaller object, allowing it to remain in a stable position relative to the two larger bodies. Think of it like the mid-way point between any two bodies with mass that impact gravity. Earth/Jupiter. JupiteSun. Earth moon/Neptune. You/your cat. It's not a 50/50 thing; if you are and your cat are 10 feet away, it's not 5-foot between you. It's also impacted by gravity from other bodies within range (and range is infinite because gravity is, no matter how infinitesimal at long distances).
There is even conceptually such a place, even if it's trivial in variation, between galaxies.
Keep in mind: there are specifically named 3D mapped always-moving (as Earth/moon for example) always-in-motion Lagrange points for the Earth and Moon. Five total--but those are just the optimal ones. There would be a relative band of space where overall the gravity between bodies is more balanced.
Almost like a fault line in gravity, huh?
That, the fault line discovery related to my experience, and my (then) unrelated fault line research which was pure curiosity unrelated to UFOs... at first.

3. Piezoelectrics, Electrokinetics, and Gravitational anomalies.

So we have a new claimed 4D mapping/navigational tool by NHI UFOs, and that they go out of their way to avoid some "Diablo canyon" no matter what we do. We know definitively there are places where gravity can have relative weak spots, due to the balancing of gravitational waves/forces/mass between bodies. All bodies with mass produce gravity... including tectonic plates.
But that's not all they produce in terms of energy.
Fault lines can generate three different distinct effects beyond seismic (shaking/motion) impacts on the world.
They are:
Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
Stress-induced piezoelectric effects refer to the generation of electrical charges in certain crystalline materials, such as quartz, when mechanical stress is applied. These effects are caused by tectonic stress and strain in the Earth's crust, which deforms the crystalline structures, generating electric fields. At the surface, these effects can disrupt local power grids, cause voltage fluctuations, and affect sensitive electronic equipment. In the atmosphere, piezoelectric effects can lead to changes in the ionosphere, affecting radio signal propagation and GPS accuracy up to altitudes of around 600 km. In space, the impacts are typically observed as changes in ionospheric electron density, detected by satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), such as those at altitudes up to 1,200 km.

  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seismoelectrical_method
Electrokinetic Effects
Electrokinetic effects are electrical phenomena that occur when a fluid (such as groundwater) moves through a porous medium (like soil or rock) under the influence of a pressure gradient. These effects are caused by the movement of ionized fluids through the Earth's subsurface, which can be influenced by tectonic activity, fluid injection, or natural fluid migration. At the surface, electrokinetic effects can alter groundwater flow, impact water supply systems, and cause electrical disturbances in subsurface sensors. In the atmosphere, these effects are less direct but can influence humidity and ionization levels, which may affect weather radar and communication systems. In space, electrokinetic effects are typically not directly observed; however, related ionospheric disturbances from fluid movement in the Earth's crust can be detected by satellites at altitudes up to 1,200 km.

  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrokinetic_phenomena
Gravity Anomalies
Gravity anomalies are variations in the Earth's gravitational field caused by differences in the distribution of mass within the Earth. These anomalies are caused by subsurface geological structures such as mountains, valleys, fault lines, and varying rock densities. On the surface, gravity anomalies can affect precise geodetic measurements, influence surveying accuracy, and impact construction projects that rely on gravitational data. In the atmosphere, gravity anomalies can slightly influence the flight paths of aircraft and atmospheric satellites, but these effects are generally minimal. In space, gravity anomalies are detected by satellites like the GRACE mission at altitudes of around 500 km, affecting satellite orbit calculations and providing data on Earth's subsurface structures and water distribution.

4. The impact of fault lines on UFOs.

Disturbances related to stress-induced piezoelectric effects, electrokinetic effects, and gravity anomalies have been observed and recorded at various altitudes. Here are some notable examples across different categories:
A) Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
  • High-altitude Observations: Piezoelectric effects typically influence ground-based systems such as power grids and sensors. There is limited data on their direct impact at high altitudes. However, atmospheric electrical phenomena, such as changes in the ionosphere related to seismic activity, have been noted up to several hundred kilometers above the Earth's surface. These are often detected by satellites in low Earth orbit.
B) Electrokinetic Effects
  • High-altitude Observations: Electrokinetic effects primarily affect subsurface and near-surface fluid dynamics. There is no significant evidence of direct electrokinetic phenomena being observed at high altitudes. However, related atmospheric effects, such as changes in humidity or ionization, can indirectly influence atmospheric layers.
C) Gravity Anomalies
  • High-altitude Observations: Gravity anomalies have been detected at high altitudes, including by aircraft and satellites. Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellites, for example, operate at altitudes of approximately 500 km and have provided detailed maps of gravity anomalies across the Earth.

Specific High-altitude Observations

  1. Ionospheric Disturbances Related to Seismic Activity:
    • Altitude: Up to 600 km.
    • Impact: Changes in electron density in the ionosphere, detected by satellites.
  2. Gravity Anomalies Detected by GRACE Satellites:
    • Altitude: Approximately 500 km.
    • Impact: Detailed mapping of Earth's gravity field, revealing variations due to tectonic and other geological processes.

Summary

  • Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects: Up to ionospheric altitudes (~600 km) via indirect atmospheric electrical phenomena.
  • Electrokinetic Effects: Primarily near-surface, with no significant direct high-altitude observations.
  • Gravity Anomalies: Up to satellite altitudes (~500 km), with significant observations by GRACE and similar missions.
Reports say that the navigational apparatus of UFOs can be impacted by energy fields, implying this plays a role in their crashing. Similar claims revolved around electromagnetic fields.

5. Why would UFOs avoid "Diablo Canyon"?

We need to know which one it is. The most likely based on the intersection of fault lines; fault lines with impacts; and near proximity to notable UFO-related locations--Vandenburg and Los Alamos--leaves us with New Mexico and the nuclear power planet.
Here are all nearby relevant fault lines for each.
This section took a substantial amount of digging/cross referencing over weeks. I had begun this for a fiction/story idea that didn't pan out, and did not save the litany of sources I read. This is a summary.

A) Diablo Canyon Power Plant, California

  • Hosgri Fault Zone

    • Location: Offshore, running parallel to the coast near the power plant.
    • Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
      • Specific Locations: Documented near Avila Beach and Montaña de Oro State Park.
      • Relative Strength: Moderate compared to other equivalent faults in California, such as the San Andreas Fault. The presence of quartz in the fault gouge enhances the piezoelectric effect, making it comparable to effects observed in the Garlock Fault.
    • Electrokinetic Effects
      • Specific Locations: Recorded near Diablo Canyon Power Plant and Morro Bay.
      • Relative Strength: Comparable to electrokinetic effects seen in the Hayward Fault in California due to similar fluid movement dynamics.
    • Gravity Anomalies
      • Specific Locations: Detected offshore near Point Buchon and Diablo Canyon Power Plant.
      • Relative Strength: Significant compared to other coastal fault zones, with variations similar to those found in the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
  • San Andreas Fault

    • Location: Approximately 10 miles inland from the power plant at its closest point.
    • Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
      • Specific Locations: Parkfield, California and Hollister, California.
      • Relative Strength: High, as the San Andreas Fault is one of the most studied and active fault lines globally. The piezoelectric effects are significant and comparable to those seen in other major fault systems worldwide.
    • Electrokinetic Effects
      • Specific Locations: San Juan Bautista, California and Carrizo Plain National Monument.
      • Relative Strength: Significant, due to extensive fluid movement and high seismic activity. Comparable to effects observed in the Wasatch Fault Zone.
    • Gravity Anomalies
      • Specific Locations: Palmdale, California and San Bernardino, California.
      • Relative Strength: Very high, with anomalies providing critical insights into fault mechanics. Similar to those in the New Madrid Seismic Zone.
  • Shoreline Fault

    • Location: Discovered in 2008, runs very close to the plant, offshore and parallel to the coastline.
    • Length: Approximately 25 miles.
    • Within 5 miles: The Shoreline Fault comes within 5 miles of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant.
    • Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
      • Specific Locations: Nearshore areas close to Diablo Canyon Power Plant.
      • Relative Strength: Potential effects are moderate, with less documentation compared to major faults.
    • Electrokinetic Effects
      • Specific Locations: Offshore areas near the power plant.
      • Relative Strength: Comparable to minor faults in coastal regions.
    • Gravity Anomalies
      • Specific Locations: Offshore near Diablo Cove.
      • Relative Strength: Minor, indicating subtle density changes.
  • Los Osos Fault

    • Location: Within 10 miles of the power plant.
    • Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
      • Specific Locations: Los Osos Valley.
      • Relative Strength: Minor compared to major faults but notable within the local context.
    • Electrokinetic Effects
      • Specific Locations: Areas with significant groundwater flow near Los Osos.
      • Relative Strength: Comparable to small, groundwater-rich fault zones.
    • Gravity Anomalies
      • Specific Locations: Los Osos Valley.
      • Relative Strength: Minor anomalies detected.

B) Diablo Canyon, New Mexico

  • Embudo Fault

    • Location: Within 20 miles of Diablo Canyon.
    • Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
      • Specific Locations: Near Dixon and Pilar, New Mexico.
      • Relative Strength: Moderate compared to other faults in the Rio Grande Rift. Similar effects to those observed in the East African Rift.
    • Electrokinetic Effects
      • Specific Locations: Near Embudo, New Mexico.
      • Relative Strength: Moderate, consistent with other active rift zones with significant groundwater interaction.
    • Gravity Anomalies
      • Specific Locations: Near the town of Española, New Mexico.
      • Relative Strength: Significant, providing insight into the rift's complex tectonic structure. Comparable to anomalies in the Basin and Range Province.
  • Pajarito Fault

    • Location: Within 20 miles of Diablo Canyon.
    • Stress-induced Piezoelectric Effects
      • Specific Locations: Near Los Alamos, New Mexico.
      • Relative Strength: High, due to active seismicity and the presence of stress.
    • Electrokinetic Effects
      • Specific Locations: Near White Rock, New Mexico.
      • Relative Strength: Significant, due to active groundwater flow in the region.
    • Gravity Anomalies
      • Specific Locations: Near Los Alamos National Laboratory.
      • Relative Strength: Notable, with detailed mapping providing insights into fault mechanics.

6. Conclusion

Simply, some variables on the navigational systems of the UFO craft which rely on precise 4-dimensional mapping for their navigational system, with implied near real time adjustments across all parameters, are negatively impacted by unexpected or significant enough to not be able to compensate for impacts from native Earth effects generated by tectonic plate actions, in specific key locations.
I'd often suspected if there was something like this related to the handful of known crashes, and them seeming to be concentrated in certain areas. With this leaker, we see another few possible pieces of a puzzle filling.
Are they legitimate? We obviously can't tell, today. But this new data sure does align with:
  1. Reports of the USA trying to "bait" UFOs.
  2. Reports of the USA utilizing nuclear facilities to this end.
  3. UFO engagement with nuclear sites.
  4. UFOs reportedly avoiding certain areas, not limited to prior crash locations.
  5. UFOs reportedly being seen over time in similar or comparable routes/locations.
  6. The USA getting big into gravity research along these lines (gravity scanners for military).
  7. Elizondo references to LIGO.
  8. And more beyond, that I'm sure more of you can recite from memory than I could.
Maybe this has some part of the genesis of the mythology of ley lines, because ancient humans couldn't possibly on their own know all these things. Were they just energetically charged fault lines that had some manner of intersection over time with UFOs?
If anyone wants to run with this or research equivalent sites in other parts of the world and their intersection with UFOs/UAPs, this may be a worthwhile rabbit hole for pursuit.

2024.05.15 00:16 BasicAuthor2786 Mom keeps leaving the car running in the garage with the garage door closed

Like the title says, my mom leaves the car running with the garage door closed. She can remotely turn her car on and I guess she does to warm it up in the morning. I get it if it’s 2-3 minutes, but there are times where she leaves it running for 5-10+ minutes. I can’t tell how long she leaves it running for because she warms up the car early in the morning while I’m asleep, and for whatever reason I manage to wake up to hear the car running, and run to open the garage door. I would talk to her about it but my mom has narcissistic tendencies and has claimed to not want to speak to me, so I fear even if I say anything, she’ll just ignore me. I have a brother who’s a minor at home too. Idk what to do because I know that CO poisoning is a quiet killer, and I’m scared that I might be so knocked out, I won’t wake up to open the garage door to air out the area. Is there anything I can do/report her to somewhere?

2024.05.15 00:12 babyhoneybunbee AITA for ignoring my best friend after she didn’t invite me to her wedding?

Hi!
My [28F] best friend [30F] Katie and I met back in college and we became quite close and lived together at about 19/21
She doesn’t drive but when we got closer I started bringing her to work with me to cocktail waitress. I had to change the one I was working at because they denied her and we had to go to one an hour away but it was fine I loved being able to hang with her so often.
After that year she graduated, moved a state away ~ 2/3 hours drive.
When Katie first moved she was pretty lonely so i would visit her frequently, sometimes every single week. I would go there for entire weekends, birthdays, holidays, sometimes to take her to work with me up there, etc.
For example things like she had a brief fling with someone who hurt her so I sent a gift and then visited the next few weekends. When her cat died I did the same with a gift and visited, i rented an Airbnb when her grandfather died so she could grieve with me away from roommates, etc.
She has come to visit me twice and sent a gift once. We of course still talked ~5 days a week if not daily and still do to this day.
2 summers ago she got engaged and for the proposal I was there among one other friend and the rest was 50+ people entirely family that’s how close we are.
Since that summer I had a huge breakup of ~8 year relationship it was pretty rough and ended up in psych ward. I then had surgery, separately spent almost a month in hospital and almost died . I also had a bad car accident, and she forgot my birthday.
She didn’t send a card, visit or anything. She rejected my sisters wedding invite as well, even though I asked her to come since I was still sad about breakup. I finally confronted her at the end of the year saying how hurt I was and asking her to visit because I needed her after the awful year I had and she said she loves me but she’s busy, thatI expect too much and she sent some flowers.
For her wedding, I was gonna be MOH until they decided family only due to how large their families are. (65+ people) I was hurt but alright not my wedding.
Saturday I visited for a bachelorette, me and her siblings split the bill it was great.
Sunday Katie texted me saying thanks for coming and among other stuff I said I was happy to be invited despite no friends being able to be at the wedding.
Then, Katie tells me over text how people dropped out of the wedding so she invited another friend + her husband and then two of the grooms friends. Not me. I have yet to answer her text about that and she’s texted me twice since about random filler nonsense.
I feel like I have put in so much effort and gotten minimal in return. So AITA if I keep ignoring her? AIO? Is this normal and I’m expecting too much?

2024.05.15 00:12 MyDamnCoffee They're trying to call me in for tonight. I just worked eight days straight.

My coworker went on vacation. I filled in every. Single. Day. Of that vacation as well as worked my regular hours. Eight days straight. I knew they would try to call me to work today after I finally get ONE SINGLE day off. I'm fuming.
It is a school night. I am a single parent. He wants me to come in at 9pm. There is no one to watch my child so I can do this for them. That means dragging her out on a school night to be at their house from at least 9pm to as late as 11pm and then I gotta be up again at 6am, my child at 7am, to be on the bus for 8am and then I get to work at 815.
There are four other employees in this household. One of which was specifically hired for this reason. to fill in when someone calls off. It is literally her job but it's falling back on me, after eight fucking days straight, my ONE DAY OFF, to come put his ass to bed. His wife is there and is capable but doesn't want to.
I'm not going. I put my phone on do not disturb. If I went in, even for 2, 2 and a half hours, that would be 10 days straight without a break. Oh, and I didn't even get to sleep in this morning because I had shit to do, aside from getting my child on the bus, things I put off until I finally had a day off, because I couldn't do it during the OVER A WEEK STRAIGHT I worked to fill in for my coworker!
They have no respect for my time or consideration for the fact I am a single mother. I am the only one out of all the employees that is a single parent. The others would not have to deal with an angry, tired child who got dragged out of bed not once but TWICE on a school night for 30 to 60 dollars
They expect me to put his needs and his life before my own because that's what his wife has done but I'm not a slave. It is her life. It is not mine. It is a job and the second I have my own car I am finding a new job. This is the second time they've tried to do this to me.

2024.05.15 00:12 No_Apricot_5453 Does he want something sexual or a relationship later on?

Okay so i went out with this guy that i met at his station, i was washing my car there. He talked to me, we went out more than 5 times, and went to his house too. He tried to kiss me after 1 week, but after another week he tried again and i kissed back, it was nice. We went out again and this times for drinks at a pub, when i dropped him off (his car is low and on the way to my house his car would for sure break-thats a good reason but still he should have made an effort and come using the long way). Anyways when dropping him off he kissed me and started putting his hands down there and i was refusing telling him its too early. He then approached me in way thats not elegant like it needs steps, he just said do me a blowjob or taste it. I was like no. He left. Then we saw each other the day after, we went to his apartment, talked and watched some videos. He started again putting his hands down there. The apartment is being renovated so its somehow dirty and ghetto couch is dirty, there is no vibe. He then said give me a blow job then again i rejected him. He then "attacked me" by saying ur always in ur comfort zone, u dont try something new, you dont like adventures, and started giving me silly examples as in trying a new restaurant. I was like im 27 thats not an adventure. The day after we talked very little then the day after even little. He use to wake up and message me immediately and before he sleeps also with a video call, and message me during the day. 1-Did he want to use me for sx only? Like its been only 2 weeks. And now hes not talking at all. Like if we were friends or if he were to be interested he would be talking to me no? Should i message him or be honest that his approach to something sexual is nice (needs more steps for me to get engaged W... it)? 2- in these 2 weeks he told me everything about him and his family, he told me he doesn't talk to people about these stuff. 3- he was always tired but made the effort to see me, was it all for something sexual? 4- how do i need to ask him or tell him that its early and the approach isn't sexy or nice? 5- Should i tell him what im thinking or let it go it’s only 2 weeks?

2024.05.15 00:11 OptimalShare4735 He cheating, how I’m going to get though this? Struggling with hurt!

He cheating, I don’t know what to do
I know he cheating on me, it all started with his coal mining job in West Virginia, saying he had to work 12 hours shifts when he only had to work 8 on Wednesday, also I was told they could trade days with other workers and have the day off, and he got off work 2 time early I knew nothing of it, well when he left for work I could hear someone else in the car with him, then one day we was talking it sounded like a moan that came cross! 2024.05.15 00:11 sadjadedheart PC overheating

BUILD: PC: Intel Core i9-13900K Raptor Lake 3.0GHz Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32GB (2 x 16GB) Lian Li Galahad 360mm RGB Water Cooling Kit Corsair RMx SHIFT Series RM1200x 1200 Watt 80 Lian Li LANCOOL III RGB Tempered Glass ATX Mid-Tower Computer Case - White
My computer was overheating and shutting off randomly for a week when playing games (apex legends/sunkenland and watching twitch). It's under warrany so I took it in. Before I took it in, I ran software to monitor the Temps. All of my fans were running. 3 in the front. 3 on the water cooler. One in the back.
They ran the games and said nothing was wrong. Said they updated drivers. He also said "100 C is within normal temp range for a 12th Gen i9. " which doesn't make sense to me because its in the red. My brother compare it to "Lol I mean I guess you can rev your car up to redline and it's still in spec too".
They reseated my graphics card and I asked them to put fresh thermal paste in.
If it continues to overheat what would be the issue? Is 70-80C a normal range when running games and media? Because it was jumping to 90-100c for the CPU. The computer is only 10 months old.

2024.05.15 00:10 flickshotHanzo my experience with premium car rental protection (positive)

about a month after i rented a vehicle from avis, i get a text from sedgwick claims regarding my avis rental and a claim number. i obviously thought this was a scam but after looking into it further and calling avis directly, it was a valid damage claim. it was also confirmed through the demand letter i received in the mail a few days later. i thought this was total bullsht because i had no issues or altercations during the rental. having denied coverage from avis, i 100% believe avis pursued me for responsibility since i was the last renter. the one time i don't take pictures or record the vehicle at time of pickup, i get hit with this.
after scanning through some pictures and videos of the trip, the damage was definitely preexisting. i sent it to avis/sedgwick but it wasn't enough to fight it on my own. i suppose it was my own fault for not doing my due diligence at time of pickup, but whatever. lesson learned. the total due including admin fees, repair estimate, loss of use, etc was $1365.07.
then comes premium car rental protection. i have this enrolled on my green card (downgraded from gold) for $25 per rental and would be my first time using it. i call up amex assurance and explained the situation. they helped me create a case, which i now know i can do online on my own. i sent in/uploaded all the requested documents to amex, including the closed rental agreement, demand letter, itemized repair estimate, etc. the claim was submitted on 5/2 and closed today at 5/14. all dues paid. there was a diminishment of value fee of $66.73 that was denied under premium, but was covered under the standard car rental loss and damage insurance.
big weight lifted off my shoulders. i didn't have to go through my own insurance and i didn't have to communicate with avis/sedgwick throughout the process. for about $25 per rental NOT per day, this is definitely worth it.

2024.05.15 00:10 Meizlx My mother-in-law thinks everyone wants to poison her

This began 2 years ago but has progressed so much that we don't know what to do anymore. I'm so stressed and tired. We live together, FIL, MIL, my husband, our daughter, and I.
My husband and I have small restaurant where is mostly operated by our family members, including my MIL. She started having paranoid thoughts about keeping money safe, thinking clients were planning on robbing us. Then she started to think people in the kitchen that are not family members are trying to poison heus to get money from us. She wants us to change our regular suppliers because they are too familiar with our hours, they might put poison in the products they sell us. She won't drink or eat anything prepared in the restaurant.
One time she yelled at a client because she felt them looking at her and the cash register. She has started discussions with our staff and now we are not letting her work in the restaurant anymore. She stays at home all day everyday, and only goes out a couple times in a week, but not without us.
Now she is suspicious about cars that pass several times down our street, she won't line dry clothes that can only be air-dried, because strangers or neighbors could put poison on the fabric, now the living room smells like wet towels all the time. She has put locks in the pantry to avoid enemies entering the house while we are out.
She started to only trust bottled water from Costco a couple months ago, but last week she had a panic attack claiming that the water is poisoned, that there were needle sized hole in the cap, which were in fact there. Has she now progressed to fabricate evidence that fits her narrative?
This has been so disruptive, as she calls my husband and I several times a day and we have to go calm her down. Our neighbors have called the police twice because they heard her screaming while alone at the house. We are first generation immigrants and they never learned English because we live in a tight knit Chinese community. There are no psychiatrist in our city that speaks the Chinese dialect that she speaks, and even if there were, she will absolutely refuse to go, she didn't event had the covid vaccine, and has not gone to any doctor since it all began. No matter how sick or bad she feels.
We actually tried going to a psychiatrist with the excuse that my daughter was sick and we needed her there to help soothe her after the consult. She stayed in the waiting room and refused to go in. After explaining everything to the doctor, she said there's not much she can do without communicating with her.
We want to go to China to get her treated but it would be financially and logistically challenging, as we would need to close the restaurant for some time, and to cover all the travel and medical expenses.
I'm so afraid that she would eventually start to suspect us and the family too, and could cause harm to us or herself. My FIL is kinda in denial, and my husband doesn't know what to do either.

2024.05.15 00:08 AcceptableOwl1176 Possible ACL/Meniscus Injury ??

Hi! I am 22F and about 3 weeks ago, I fell down 3-4 of my porch stairs. I initially noted that I twisted my ankle really bad and twisted my knee a bit. Initially, knee pain was mild/barely there and ankle hurt pretty badly. Iced my ankle and took it a bit easy for a bit, but slowly over 2 weeks my knee kept getting additionally more painful while my ankle felt fine. A week ago, pain was really bad and went to UC. She could feel fluid/grinding around my knee. I had very limited ROM at this point and couldn't bend past 90 degrees. She said she suspected a meniscus or ACL injury and referred me to Ortho and gave me a knee brace to wear.
Over the last week, my pain has dulled to more of an annoying pain when doing normal activities, and hurts pretty badly when doing a squat or walking up stairs or getting in or out of my car. I am limping still, I can feel occasional clicking (not every time I bend my knee). I still have some swelling, but it has been fluctuating through the day. My ROM is wayyy better now. I have felt some instances with brace off where it feels weird/unstable. I feel like I'm going crazy and want to have some insight to other people's injuries to see if anyone has had this happen before I see Ortho tomorrow.
NOTE: X-RAY SHOWED NOTHING

2024.05.15 00:06 baby_moose Some questions about a Polestar 2

Hello folks! I finally leased a Polestar 2. Had been eyeing one for years and the latest lease deal with the Costco rebate was hard to pass.

I have a few questions:
  1. Is there any way to set up the screen to show my right side camera's view, when I turn on the right turn indicator? My Honda had that feature and I miss that quite a bit.
  2. Can I roll the windows up (or down) using the mobile app?
  3. The "Charge" screen shows an "Set Amperage Limit" section. Is that something I should be playing with at all? Or should I let it stay in the default 48A value?
  4. Where do you all leave things like sunglasses and coins (for the rare parking meters that don't accept credit cards) and such in your car? There doesn't seem to be a "central console" like most cars do.
  5. What's your preferred driving settings? I am slowly learning to use full regen, but so far have needed to keep "Creep" on.
  6. What's your opinion of Pilot? Does Adaptive Cruise Control work very well or has anyone experienced phantom breaking (like in Teslas)? Is the lane centering decent? I use both ACC and lane centering extensively on my Honda and it works well (ACC works very well, lane centering works until the lanes are faded or the road turns too much).

Any recommendations on what all I should be setting up? Like apps for the car (I glanced at the store, but did not find anything that stood out).

If anyone's interested, this is the config:

The Costco $2000 incentive was used to reduce the total cost of the car, which I believe reduced my payments from $523 -> $441 per month.

2024.05.15 00:06 -Mercedes-Benz- Unpopular opinion in space areas: Textbooks and encyclopedias should stop giving too much benefit of the doubt to Soviet/Russian space accomplishments, given the ongoing genocidal war in Ukraine

The genocidal war in Ukraine started since last year has been vindicating much of hardline views towards Russia, which is best summarized with an opinion article in Estonia and Russia vs World's short essay that states:
Now that Roscosmos is recruiting people to fight against Ukraine, it's no longer right in giving too much benefit of the doubt to Soviet/Russian space accomplishments, which the latter has been exploited to legitimize the war by Russian government and society anyways. You can argue that Sergei Korolev is an Ukrainian, but how it's different than if he was a full-blooded Russian when the end results of his work were being exploited by Russia to satiate their illusory supremacy against others from time to time?
Perhaps encyclopedias and such need a re-write. For example, there is a common misconception that Sputnik is the first object in space; those Nazi rockets were the ones did it instead.
Yuri Gagarin is the first to go in space, but it was John Glenn who completed orbits from the beginning until the end without having to jump out from his ship mid course. Imagine if a NASCAR driver leaves his car because he fear that his engine about to broke and put a brick on the pedals to get it past the finishing line?
Skylab 2 were the first space station crews ever to return safely to Earth because the previous Soyuz 11 died upon reentry. You can argue that the past should not be unduly changed, but how is it any better than keeping the nuances and caveats about Soviet accomplishments in the low for so long?
After all there is a reason why the early forays by Wernher von Braun in terms of V2 rockets aren't lionized in the same way as Soviet ones, right?

2024.05.15 00:04 BreadPrevious2800 Investment advice for a 76 year old

Kia Ora - throw account.
TLDR: 76 year old male, in rental accommodation approx $550pw, Approx $50k p.a in company and state pension, approx $270k lumpsum to invest while he determines next steps. Options for own home/self build on family land in Wellington in the future.
Thanks in advance...
FULL
My father has received a lump sum of $270k. He is settled in a 1.5 bed rental accommodation close by and in good health, after living with us for the last 2 years. He pays $550 pw, plus minor bills (heat pump, food, insurance).
He has just bought a 3-year-old low mileage fuel efficient car with cash (17k), but mostly uses public transport.
Advice please on planning for an active 10 years, and options to transition to supported living/care home after that. He is happy with the rental, but if it was his own place you could spend $30k on it to significantly improve it.
He has never been good with money, exacerbated by several divorces, and as a result in spite of a good pension has ended up in rental accommodation with few assets.
Initial thoughts are:
An alternative preferred option is we have space to put a prefab c. 50-75sqm unit on our section. I'd be more confident of doing this within the lump sum. Still leaves residual issues on estate planning and how our land is reflected to resolve.
We are encouraging him to ensure he has powers of attorney and will up to date and inplace.

2024.05.15 00:01 silvereagle01 How to handle roof fascia and other details when thickening exterior wall

How to handle roof fascia and other details when thickening exterior wall
Backstory: My townhome was built in 1982 by your run of the mill cheap builder. No sheathing, just let in bracing, 1’2” exterior foam board insulation + aluminum siding. That’s it. No house wrap or anything.
The foam board has gaps between the pieces so big you can fit a hot wheels car in some spots…honestly I have no idea how the township inspector passed this thing outside of greased pockets.
As you can imagine, the air drafts are fantastic, bugs love it, and all in all it’s a pretty awesome experience.
Anyways, our windows need to be replaced and I want to just rip everything off, add new foam board, siding, and although not structurally needed, sheathing as well.
This way I can get a little extra mass for sound (I know it’s not much), and also provide a better nailing surface for the siding because I promise based on everything else that no matter how good you measure or mark the studs, the new foam board will be Swiss cheese in spots by the time siding install is done.
Lastly, my roof was just redone 6 months ago, new underlyament and everything.
Here’s my question - What’s the right way of handling the fascia, shingles, flashing etc detail along the side of the home if I do this because I would be adding about 1” thickness. Is it possible to do what’s needed by just working with removing the shingles at the edge adding strips of plywood, underlayment, flashing etc?
Attaching a photo of the side of my house. (Front and back have overhangs where this is less of a concern)

2024.05.15 00:01 ekolanderia1 I could use some help

Hello all! I have lived in CR for the majority of my life, and I have to move soon. All of my family and my job is here in town, and I am really trying to stay as close as possible. My date I have to move out is June 20th.
My current place was a very lucky find at 1k per month, and honestly that is close to the limit of what I can afford. I can push it to 1300 at the most, but online I cannot find anything.
The apartment complexes I have seen that I could pay for, have a restriction on earning 3x the rent.
I own my vehicle and have no payments other than my phone and car insurance, but I am stonewalled from applying unless I can prove I earn 4,500+ per month.
I work full time as a pharmacy technician, and I pull in roughly 2500 per month.
If anyone knows about any hidden gems that perhaps don't advertise themselves as well, I would appreciate a dm!
About me: 25 years old, male, single. I have 2 cats and I am willing to put up a deposit for them. 1 bedroom 1 bath would be more than enough.
