The facility was opened in the 1970s and was the first of its kind in the state of Arkansas. It is a long-term facility, as recovery is a long winding road. The GYST House was founded by Gene G. (my father) and Jim C after both men found themselves caught within the jaws of addiction and at the mercy of a justice system that offered nothing but incarceration. Being "sick and tired of being sick and tired" and with no recourse in sight for others struggling, Jim and Gene, along with many others, set out to provide tools and resources to help women and men get their lives back on track. With a support for the community, a house was purchased and served as a base of operations for those seeking assistance. Their message of hope spread across the state and, eventually, outside of its borders. Sadly, we lost both men in 2011; they died 9 months apart from each other. While they may have left this world, their dream still remains! And I'd like to keep their dream going. Unfortunately, the GYST House faced many hardships during and after the pandemic of 2019 and we have setup a GoFundMe to help. These funds will be used for a much-needed repairs to the building such as the roof, plumbing, and HVAC. If you find yourself unable to make a monetary donation, sharing this post also helps!
