2024.05.13 22:02 cummingouttamycage The Springfield Three: Disappeared without a trace, no leads, no main suspect, nearly 32 years ago today

As school graduations are underway, it is hard not to think of one of the most puzzling cases in the last 50 years, which took place the night of graduation: the mysterious disappearance of Suzie Streeter, Stacy McCall, and Sherill Levitt, dubbed "Springfield Three". I thought I'd bump it back to the surface given we are nearly 32 years from the event, and hopefully provoke some more discussion on the topic!
Introduction
On 6th June 1992, Suzanne “Suzie” Streeter (age 19) and Stacy McCall (age 18) both graduated from Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri. Graduation always brings an air of celebration... This was no exception for Streeter and McCall, who attended several graduation parties around Springfield and in nearby Battlefield throughout the night. The girls were last seen around 2 am, when they departed from a party at friend Janelle Kirby’s house. While they had initially planned to spend the night at Kirby’s house, they ultimately decided that it was too crowded and decided to return to Streeter’s mother Sherill Levitt’s house for the night. Had the girls decided to stay at Kirby’s house as they’d originally planned, true crime history as we know it might be entirely different, and the tale of the Springfield Three might not exist. Perhaps Streeter and McCall would have wandered home the next morning to find Levitt missing, a tragedy for sure, but one of more than 600,000 persons who go missing in the United States every year. Perhaps the tragedy may have been avoided entirely had they stayed at Kirby’s; without any clear motivation, we can merely speculate. Unfortunately, however, this is not what happened. The two girls made their way home, and they, along with Levitt, were never seen again, alive nor dead. This is the mysterious and disturbing story of the vanishing of the Springfield Three, still unsolved over thirty years later.
The Disappearance
Streeter and McCall were last seen around 2 am leaving friend Janelle Kirby’s graduation party. While some factors could point to this time being unreliable (drinking @ party, overall vibe of celebration, and there was no reason to think that the time they left was significant in the moment), there would have been multiple witnesses at the party who sawthe girls leave, lending more credence to the idea that they did indeed leave around 2 am. By all accounts, the last time anyone heard from Levitt was approx. 11:15 pm, when she spoke with a friend about painting an armoire. Given the seemingly mundane nature of the conversation, it seems likely that the events that led to the vanishing of the Springfield Three had not yet occurred at this time; while it is possible that someone had already broken into the home and was forcing Levitt to “act natural,” this seems highly unlikely given the nature of the conversation and the fact that the friend did not mention anything seeming off or wrong during her conversation with Levitt. Additionally, Streeter and McCall almost certainly made it back to the house. While there are no eyewitnesses, their cars were parked in the driveway, and their purses were found inside. Additionally, McCall’s mother confirmed that the clothes that McCall had been wearing the previous day were found neatly folded inside the house. Streeter and McCall’s friend Kirby states that she attempted to call the house at approximately 8 am and received no response. Therefore, we can say with near certainty that the event that caused the vanishing of the Springfield Three occurred sometime between 11:15 pm on June 6th and 8 am on June 7th -- though much more likely to be between the hours of 2 am and 8 am.
Crime Scene Discovery
On the day of June 7th, Streeter and McCall were scheduled to go to the water park with their friend Janelle Kirby, whose party they had visited the night prior. This is why Kirby had called the house at 8 am that morning. After not receiving an answer or hearing back, Kirby made her way over to the house on 1717 E Delmar Street, along with her boyfriend, around 12:30 pm. They found the door unlocked but nobody home, with the exception of Levitt’s dog Cinnamon, a Yorkshire Terrier, who they claimed seemed agitated. There were no signs of a struggle besides the front porch light, the glass shade of which had been shattered while the lightbulb itself had been left intact. Not realizing that they were snooping around a crime scene, Kirby’s boyfriend swept up the broken glass from the porch lamp, attempting to be kind but in the process possibly contaminating evidence. While in the house, the phone rang, and Kirby answered. She said that the caller made sexual innuendos, and she hung up on them. The phone rang again, but after realizing it was more of the same, Kirby hung up yet again. Likely confused but not panicked, Kirby and her boyfriend left the house. They did not contact law enforcement, as they did not yet realize that a crime had occurred.
Janis McCall’s Discovery
Several hours later, around 7 pm, Janis McCall, Stacy’s mother, grew concerned when she hadn’t been able to contact Stacy, and decided to visit the house. Inside, she found the women’s purses upright and in a line. All the women’s car keys were in their purses, as were their cigarettes. Janis was apparently sufficiently alarmed enough that she called the police from the home phone at 1717 E Delmar Street. After alerting law enforcement, Janis checked the voice mailbox and heard what has only been described as a “strange message” that she accidentally erased before anyone else, including law enforcement, could listen to it.
The Investigation
This investigation has repeatedly lead to dead ends. Local police began investigating the house on June 8th, and the FBI was called in the very next day. Numerous searches were conducted in nearby wooded areas with no luck. Police investigated a number of tips, including one regarding a “transient” or homeless person supposedly seen near the house, one regarding a man pretending to be a utility worker investigating a gas leak, and one involving a Dodge van that was supposedly seen around the house. None of these tips, and many, many more that were submitted both in the immediate aftermath of the vanishing of the Springfield Three and in the years that followed, led to any substantial developments in the case. Before long, the case of the Springfield Three went cold, but it has never been forgotten.
The Main problems with this case...
Discussion
While a number of possible suspect names have been tossed around over the years, none stand out as truly likely, with almost all lacking the means or motive to pull off what seems like the perfect crime. Some speculate it was one of the girls' high school friends (possibly Janelle) or romantic interests, but a crime of this nature feels far outside the scope of a recent high school grad. Some suspect Bart Streeter, Sherill's son & Susie's brother, who struggled with drug and alcohol issues. Others suspect prominent serial killers at the time (Robert Craig Cox is often mentioned), though the crime doesn't match his MO. It's tough to say, and I personally don't have any leading theories.
Thought I'd ask the following discussion questions as well:

HOW TO VAPE: Best guide for beginners
https://preview.redd.it/z9ehn4tis60d1.png?width=946&format=png&auto=webp&s=e330241c585f10dba6773891fd2c5d807b0c19f8
Vaping has become a popular alternative to smoking, with many people choosing it for various reasons including as a method to quit smoking. Here's a comprehensive guide for beginners interested in vaping, covering the basics, types of devices, flavors, and some general advice on pricing, specifically with a nod to the market in Pakistan.

1. Understanding Vaping

  • Vaping involves inhaling a vapor created by an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) or other vaping device. These devices heat a liquid to generate an aerosol, commonly called vapor, that the user inhales.
  • E-liquids or vape Flavours is the fluid used in vapor products to create the actual vapor. It can contain nicotine, Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), flavorings, and water.

2. Types of Vaping Devices

  • Cig-A-Likes (First Generation): Look like traditional cigarettes and are very simple to use, making them a good starting point for beginners.
  • Vape Pens (Second Generation): Slightly larger than cig-a-likes, offering better battery life and the ability to change flavors more easily.
  • Mods (Third Generation): Offer the most powerful experience with customizable settings, but can be complex for beginners.
  • Pod Systems: Compact and easy-to-use devices that use a pod instead of a traditional tank. Suitable for beginners due to their simplicity and convenience.

3. Choosing Your Vape Juice

  • Flavors: There's a wide variety of flavors available, from traditional tobacco and menthol to fruit, dessert, and beverage flavors.
  • Nicotine Strength: E-liquids come in various nicotine strengths. If you're trying to quit smoking, you might start with a higher nicotine content and gradually reduce the strength.
  • PG vs. VG: PG provides more flavor but less vapor, while VG is more viscous and produces more vapor but might carry less flavor. A mix of both provides a balanced experience.

4. Disposable Vapes

  • Convenience: Disposable vapes are pre-filled devices that can be thrown away after use. They're incredibly convenient but can be more expensive in the long run.
  • Flavors and Nicotine: They come in many flavors and nicotine strengths, making them a good option for trying different options without commitment.

5. Vape Price in Pakistan

  • Pricing can vary widely depending on the device type, brand, and where you purchase it. In Pakistan, you can expect the following approximate ranges:
    • Cig-A-Likes and Vape Pens: PKR 1,000 - 5,000
    • Mods: PKR 5,000 - 15,000+
    • Pod Systems: PKR 2,500 - 7,000
    • Disposable Vapes: PKR 500 - 2,000 per device
  • Prices for e-liquids or vape juices also vary, but you can expect to spend around PKR 500 - 1,500 for a 30ml bottle, depending on the brand and flavor.

6. Tips for Beginners

  • Start Simple: Begin with a straightforward device like a pod vape or cig-a-like to get used to the experience.
  • Safety First: Purchase your vaping equipment from reputable sources to avoid counterfeit products.
  • Hydration: Vaping can cause dehydration, so drink plenty of water.
  • Maintenance: Regularly clean your device to ensure the best performance and flavor.

7. Legal and Health Considerations

  • Be aware of the legal age for vaping in your area and any regulations regarding vape use.
  • Vaping, while considered less harmful than smoking cigarettes, still carries health risks, particularly concerning nicotine addiction.
Remember, if you're vaping as a way to quit smoking, it's advisable to have a plan to reduce your nicotine intake gradually. Vaping should be seen as a step towards quitting nicotine use entirely, not a permanent substitute. Always consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice, especially if you have underlying health conditions.

2024.05.11 22:45 Intrepid-News1018 AITA for asking my husband to use less nicotine pouches

I moved to United States two years ago after living in Europe where smoking is a popular activity among people, I’ve been smoking cigarettes on and off since I’m 19.
After I married my husband and moved to US he and his family asked me to quit smoking as it’s not good for my health, it doesn’t look good and is not “lady like”. It wasn’t that easy to do that after years of being surrounded by smoker friends and smoking society but I decided I can at least cut the amount of cigarettes I smoke and only do that casually when we’re out drinking.
My husband on the other hand was vaping a lot when we met and when I decided to limit my cigarette intake he decided to quit vaping with me. I saw that as an act of support and also as a sign that he also wanted to be healthier. But he eventually switched to nicotine pouches as an alternative to vaping and told me it helped him quit smoking. I thought that was a good alternative at first but now I realize he’s addicted to nicotine pouches, he usually used 1-2 packs a week but lately I’ve noticed daily charges to our shared debit card from the smoke shop. It looks like he’s using a pack a day and to be completely honest I don’t think it’s going to help him quit, I think he just exchanged one addiction with the other.
Today I asked him if he could maybe get a pack every other day and then slowly take that number down along the way to help him quit smoking for good, but he only became more aggressive and told me I’m manipulative and controlling. I told him it’s unfair to me because I limited my cigarette smoking to only when we’re out drinking, and I feel like if I smoke a couple of cigarettes over a weekend he should also limit his nicotine pouches. I explained to him that it’s not fair to me to hear from him, his friends and his family how cigarettes are “disgusting” and honestly I’m really trying to cut off the “weekend social smoking” as well, but it’s not very easy for me. I feel like him and everyone around him shittalks my smoking but when it comes to him sucking on nicotine pouches that goes completely unnoticed. It’s like if you quit smoking joints and someone would eat edibles in front of you and tell you “it’s not a joint and it doesn’t stink like a joint hence I’m allowed to do that”
Eventually he said “acknowledged” and brushed me off. I don’t think he actually “acknowledged” what I was saying as he was very aggressive about it and made it look like I insulted him by asking him to use less. Am I the asshole for asking him to use less nicotine pouches?

2024.05.11 10:39 Previous-Foot-8905 14 Year Old Eve Askew disappeared from a remote township in Tasmania one night in mid November, 1991. Her whereabouts are still unknown.

Background:
Eves Family moved from New South Wales to to the State of Tasmania , which is approximately 250 Kilometres (155 Miles) from the Australian Mainland, to a remote town called Fitzgerald. Her family made this move in January of 1989, in an attempt to seek peace and quiet from the busy lifestyle they were accustomed to in New South Wales. Eve was described by family and friends as quiet and shy girl, who would often avoid social interaction with new people. This description was contradicted by the former detective investigator in her case, Colin Riley, who described her as being outgoing and partaking in risk-taking behaviour. Eves old school friend stated that Eve was often subject to bullying and harassment by her peers at school. Eves family felt safe in the area that they lived in and rarely felt the need to lock their doors, as her brother, Jacob Askew, stated in an interview with ABC news. She was caught with cigarettes in her bag shortly before her disappearance, which led her parents to ground her, despite Eve denying that she smokes cigarettes, her diary entries suggesting otherwise. Eves brother (Jacob) stated that this was the only instance he'd known of where Eve had acted out and is unsure of where the description of "risk-taking behaviour" has stemmed from.
Disappearance:
Eve was last sighted on or around November 16, 1991. The night Eve disappeared was described as a normal night. Her parents were out, leaving her at home with her two brothers. Her brothers were watching television whilst Eve resided in her room, listening to music. Her brothers saw her occasionally throughout the night and described her as being in a good mood. Eves parents arrived home, and went to sleep without checking on the kids, assuming that they were all asleep in their rooms. It wasn't until the next morning that it was discovered she was missing. There were no signs of a struggle or violence, which led into belief that she had run away. Shortly after her disappearance, law enforcement received reported sightings from members of the public within the Tasmania area, Hobart, the states capital, being one of them, but none of these sightings have been verified. At the time of Eve’s disappearance she was described as being 157cm tall, of slim build, with red hair and a pale complexion with freckles on her face. When reported as missing, her family stated that she was last seen wearing a tracksuit.
Investigation:
There seems to be no information on when the case was initially closed, but it was re-opened in 2001.
____________
A tip off, led police back to the family home, excavating the grounds surrounding it, in an effort to find Eves remains. Nothing came of this. This tip off came from a man who was in police custody at the time. He was brought to the property during the excavation process to assist police. There were reports that the man may have been involved in Eves Disappearance. Police did not confirm any of these reports.
____________
After the investigation at the family property, Eves case was passed onto (former) Detective Inspector, Colin Riley (mentioned previously describing Eve as outgoing and risk-taking). He re-opened the investigation again in 2012. (Unable to find info of when it was closed between 2001 and 2012). Detective Colin stated that the re-opening of this investigation in 2012 sparked many investigative initiatives, including listening devices, and the digging up of suspected grave sights.
During this time period, the police seized a property on Gordan River road in Karanja, a 20 minute drive from Eves family home. The property seized was previously owned by a man who was known to have befriended Eve in the months prior to her disappearance. When Detective Colin Riley was asked if Eve had met up with this man prior to her disappearance, he stated that he "Can't recall".
The police also seized another isolated property belonging to the same man, the particular focus being a septic tank. Police searched the land underneath this tank. Detective Colin in a statement concerning the property investigated, said this "We've detected things that we believe can possibly be used as evidence in court". Despite this statement, nothing seems to have come of this. When asked, Detective Colin was able to confirm that this man was / is a person of interest in the case. The man was arrested and later released without being charged.
Theories:
Despite some speculation online and through the media, there seems to be only one popular theory, being that Eve Askew was met with foul play. It's likely that the person/persons responsible for Eve Askew's disappearance was someone known to her. Perpetrators often prey on and take advantage of children like Eve who are shy, quiet, outcasted. Eves old school friend, when interviewed, suggested that she may of been relying on a person of interest to help her runaway from home, and that this person may have deceived Eve into thinking that they were helping her, and that they were doing so in an effort to take advantage of her.
Tasmania is surrounded by lush bush area (the wilderness) and it's been speculated that she may have gotten lost / injured in the night, but this seems unlikely as her family stated that she was an experienced bush walker. There also doesn’t seem to be evidence to indicate this.
___________
Authorities have not made public comment on whether or not Eves parents are people of interest in her case but they did state that they'd found no evidence to suggest they were, and that Eve has likely disappeared for a different reason.
Conclusion:
Despite all enquiries and investigations by authorities, Eve's whereabouts are still unknown to this day. Tragically, Eves parents died in a car accident 5 years after her disappearance. They died not knowing what happened to their daughter. Eves brother, Jacob Askew is very vocal about his sisters disappearance and is advocating for justice to be bought to her case. There's currently a 500 000 dollar reward being offered by Tasmanian Police for information relating to her disappearance and suspected murder.

(Also some of the info on her case on the Tas Gov page is a bit outdated so proceed with that in mind)

OP Notes:
This is my first ever write-up I've done on here and I'm keen to do more so feel free to leave any criticisms down below as I'd love to improve. If you feel I've left anything out, please feel free to comment it as I know there's always little bits of info about these cases hiding in the cracks and crevices. Authorities seems to be very secretive about the information that they've garnered on this case so I tried to include as much as I could. I also highly recommend watching the YouTube video I've linked in the sources. Very Informative.

Jim Simons, a mathematician who became one of the most successful investors in modern financial history, has died at age 86.
A cutting-edge code breaker and geometer, Simons helped pioneer a revolution in trading, embracing a computer-oriented, quantitative style in the 1980s well ahead of the Wall Street crowd. He and his team employed trading algorithms and artificial intelligence to outperform the market—and the likes of Warren Buffett and George Soros. Later, Simons became a political donor and an influential philanthropist in the worlds of science, health and education.
Simons, the son of a Boston shoe-factory executive, developed an early passion for mathematics and ignored the advice of the family physician who urged him to steer clear of the field because he wouldn’t make a living. The warning proved misplaced.
Simons began his career as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. He proved popular with students. One year, Simons amused a graduate class by confessing that he didn’t know much about the topic—partial differential equations—but that he viewed teaching the course as a good way to learn.
Simons became restless, though. He started businesses with friends and dabbled in trading. Friends and family detected a desire for wealth.
“Jim understood at an early age that money is power,” said Barbara Simons, his first wife, in an interview.
During the Cold War, in 1964, Simons joined a U.S. intelligence organization fighting the Soviet Union. He successfully broke Russian code but was fired when he took a public stance against the Vietnam War, upsetting his boss, who had spoken in favor of the war.
Simons joined Stony Brook University in Long Island, N.Y., where he ran the math department, developing an ability to recruit talented professors. At 37, he won geometry’s highest honor, cementing his reputation in the world of mathematics. His Chern-Simons theory remains one of the most widely cited math papers of the past century.

Farewell to academia

In 1978, at the age of 40, Simons astonished his colleagues by quitting academia to try his hand at trading. He started an investment firm in a dreary Long Island strip mall, next to a women’s clothing boutique and two doors from a pizza joint. At the time, many rivals were “fundamental” investors, chatting with corporate managers, scrutinizing balance sheets and relying on judgment and intuition to predict the ups and downs of investments.
Where others saw the zigs and zags as chaos, Simons, who had been trained to scrutinize large data sets, sensed that financial markets had more structure than most presumed.
“I developed a view that markets are not random, and [were] to some extent predictable,” he later said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “There were statistical anomalies that could be exploited.”
Early on, Simons traded like most others, reading the news and betting on gold prices and other investments. He scored gains but found it hard to endure the market’s volatility. He developed stomach pains and berated himself for miscues.
“One day you’re a genius, the next you feel like a dope,” Simons said. “Fundamental trading gave me ulcers.”
Simons set out to build an automated trading system that could discover fleeting and overlooked patterns in prices.
“I want models that will make money while I sleep,” Simons told a friend at the time. “A pure system without humans interfering.”
Simons hired scientists and mathematicians who used data going back centuries, predictive algorithms and machine learning. They often met with frustration.
“There’s a pattern here; there has to be a pattern,” Simons insisted one day.
At one point, their trading system inadvertently came close to cornering the market for Maine potatoes, to the dismay of regulators.
“We were viewed as flakes with ridiculous ideas,” said Elwyn Berlekamp, who helped lead the firm in the 1980s, in a 2017 interview.

A payoff, finally

By 1990, Simons and his team, in their East Setauket, N.Y., headquarters, had identified ways to profit from currency, commodity and other markets using short-term patterns they had found. It took years longer, but the firm, by then called Renaissance Technologies, eventually discovered a way to make billions of dollars on stocks.
Their winning strategy: holding investments for short periods, even minutes, turning almost all of the trading decisions to computers—and maintaining a veil of secrecy unlike almost any in Wall Street’s history. Colleagues said one reason for the firm’s success was Simons’s ability to coax accomplished mathematicians and scientists to join his firm, and get them to work together—his genius was managing genius.
“There is one GOAT [greatest of all time]. His name was Jim Simons,” said Clifford Asness, managing and founding principal of AQR Capital Management. “That he was also a nice, kind, generous and caring man just makes it that much more amazing.”
Between 1988 and 2018, Renaissance’s flagship Medallion Fund produced gains of more than $100 billion and average annual returns of 66% before the firm’s unusually hefty investor fees. The annual gains were 39% after those fees, a performance that topped those of Buffett, Soros, Peter Lynch and other investors during that period. Medallion years ago became a fund only open to Simons and his colleagues.
Simons defied the odds in other ways. He was a regular cigarette smoker, lighting up in office buildings, restaurants and most everywhere else. Once, during a presentation to potential clients, Simons couldn’t find an ashtray so he buried his cigarette butt deep in a sheet cake, amazing his guests.

Many converts

Today, more investors have embraced Simons’s mathematical, computer-oriented approach. About one-third of all money is managed by so-called quant firms, and businesses in various industries rely on algorithms.
Away from trading, Simons suffered tragedy. One son, Paul, died in a bicycle accident. Another, Nicholas, died while scuba diving.
“My life is either aces or deuces,” Simons once told a colleague.
Over the years, Simons reduced his role at the firm while focusing on science, education and other philanthropies. In 2010 he resigned as Renaissance’s chief executive, yielding the job to longtime employee and former International Business Machines computer scientist Peter Brown. Simons retired as chairman in 2021.
Simons’s health had deteriorated recently.
Simons gave away more than $6 billion during his lifetime. The Simons Foundation became a leading private funder of research in basic science. Simons also provided annual stipends of $15,000 to more than 1,000 top math and science teachers in New York City. He funded efforts to discover treatments for autism and spent $75 million to build an observatory in Chile to gain an understanding of creation’s earliest moments.
In 2021, Simons and senior Renaissance executives agreed to pay up to $7 billion to settle a long-running tax probe related to how the firm converted short-term gains into long-term profits, which are typically taxed at a lower rate. It was one of the biggest settlements in Internal Revenue Service history.
Simons was one of the biggest backers of Democratic candidates, supporting the presidential campaigns of Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. Meanwhile, Robert Mercer, then the co-CEO of Renaissance, in 2016 became one of then-presidential-candidate Donald Trump’s most important backers.
In a 2019 speech, Simons offered a life lesson to MIT students.
“Be guided by beauty,” he said. “It can be a way a company runs, or the way an experiment comes out, or the way a theorem comes out, but there’s a sense of beauty when something is working well, almost an aesthetic to it.”
Simons is survived by his wife, Marilyn Simons, and three children. His earlier marriage to Barbara Simons ended in divorce.

2024.05.10 20:50 captnamurica2 HAYPP Group: Capitalizing on the Nicotine Pouch Craze

HAYPP Group: Capitalizing on the Nicotine Pouch Craze
I run a small hedge fund based out of Raleigh, NC. Myself and my Fund are long $HAYPP. Please see the disclaimer at the bottom of the post. For more blog posts like this check out my Fund's blog at https://www.rogue-funds.com/blog
All Financial Figures are in USD unless otherwise specified.
I think HAYPP Group, the biggest online retailer of nicotine pouches, can capture a huge chunk of the sales in what I believe will be the biggest form of nicotine intake growth over the next 10-15 years.
The future of nicotine consumption will be nicotine pouches and it is growing at an unprecedented rate. Here in the States the go to item for nicotine pouches are Zyn’s (owned by Philip Morris), in Europe it’s Velo (owned by British American Tobacco), but there are various other brands that all catching fire: ON! (Altria), Rogue, Juice Head, FRE, Lucy, and Sesh, among various others.
What is HAYPP?
Brief History
HAYPP is an online retailer and distributor of nicotine pouches and snus. The company was started by a couple of Swedish teenagers in 2009 and through mergers and acquisitions they no longer are in charge of the company as the current CEO joined in 2017/2018. The company bought Nicokick.com and northerner.com (northerner owns 9% of stock) which are now both of their main American brands. They switched from Snus to Nicotine Pouches 6 years ago and haven’t looked back.
Domains Owned By HAYPP Group
HAYPP currently owns a roughly 85% online market share for their Nordic part of the business, which they refer to as their “core” business as well as a ~55% market share of the oral nicotine market (85% market share of the nicotine pouch e-commerce market) for their growth market which is considered the US, UK, Germany, and Swiss countries.
Market Share of HAYPP
HAYPP vs Closest Competitor in each Market
SEO Powerhouse
So how do they have such a grasp on what would obviously be a hyper competitive online industry? The main reason for their hyper success in the online market is that they have a death grip on the SEO landscape. Their mastery of SEO allows them to spend almost nothing on marketing and to keep pushing out their distribution system (which continues to drive costs down for them and consumers). This creates a positive feedback loop as they become even cheaper than their competitors, allowing them to lock in customers (over 90% of the customers becoming recurring customers).
How Consumers find HAYPP
HAYPP Marketing Expenses as a % of Sales
If you google just about anything related to Nicotine pouches, there is probably a 95%+ chance that the top unpaid search result will be a HAYPP Group Domain. Even niche searches such as “what is an upper decky” (Gen. Z slang for nicotine pouches) or basic searches such as “what are the top nicotine pouches” you will see that HAYPP Group owns the top of the search.

Google Searches Highlighting the SEO power of HAYPP
This is huge when sites like Google severely limit the amount of advertising that addictive products can utilize on their search engine. HAYPP ends up barely spending anything on marketing due to 40% of new customers coming through word of mouth and the rest from SEO.
Data
Their other field of expertise is data collection and selling. Due to the large variety of pouches and being the number one online seller of nicotine pouches, they have created a major database which they sell to various nicotine pouch producers such as Philip Morris and Altria. Producers buy these on an annualized basis, and you can see the usage of their data among the investor relation reports/presentations/websites of various producers. As you can see from my beautiful pictures on this post, they compile plenty of data to help me understand the business better.

Lowest Cost Seller and Best E-Commerce Distribution
Due to their distribution network, HAYPP has become one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) sellers of nicotine pouches in the world. You can buy Zyn’s cheaper from HAYPP websites than you can from the ZYN website. Haypp’s prices are 20-40% cheaper than grocery stores and 30-50% cheaper than convenience stores.
They have been integrating their distribution network so that most variable costs are being converted to vertical fixed costs creating operating leverage for them as they rapidly scale their revenue and are able to increase margins. They have implemented 2-day delivery across the US and close to implementing across Europe markets as well.

HAYPP Distribution
Leveraging Market Share for High Quality New Products
The last part of their business model is their ability to leverage their large consumer base to help new products capture market share, which allows them to capture higher margins on their products and it increases the variety of products which consumers would like to buy. In Nordic countries the variety of products is a benefit to them as consumers want to try various brands and flavors. When this competition trend hits the US it will only benefit them even more.

Why Haypp vs Pouch Companies
Currently in the US there are only a couple main brands with Zyn owning a huge chunk of the market. In Europe, Velo is the most popular brand but there are many Nordic brands that consistently attack margins and currently there is little competition in the US market which most likely won’t last much longer. As consumers search out the cheapest product and try to hunt for variety, HAYPP will be that future as convenience stores lag in variety and cost.
Products such as Zyn will definitely continue to grow (currently Zyn is growing at 70% y/y) but we could see margins shrink as competition becomes fiercer and consumers branch out away from the first movers, although Zyn continues to take up 70% of the US market. This only further benefits HAYPP as they are the go-to spot for a large amount of variety. Although they don’t benefit as much from less competition, they are still beneficiaries of an oligopoly esque market due to their cost and distribution networks.
Most large publicly traded pouch companies are also cigarette and chewing tobacco sellers who are rapidly seeing those segments get cannibalized by vaping and nicotine pouches combined with regulatory crackdown risk. Since HAYPP has no exposure to either one, you will not experience any cannibalization outside of snus cannibalization in the Nordics. This is the best pure play bet on nicotine pouch consumption.
Certain countries have limited the ability for consumers to have access to nicotine via retail stores which will allow them to take huge shares of the overall market in places like Germany or in California where they have banned flavored nicotine products in retail stores has led to windfall of customers to HAYPP’s e-commerce model.

Management
The current CEO of HAYPP group, Gavin O’Dowd, used to work for British American Tobacco (BAT) and was the driving force for the VELO acquisition. He currently owns 3.6% of the stock and various other PE firms and Family Offices own large chunks of HAYPP. Most executives have warrants that could give them the right to 200k-400k shares each (29m shares outstanding with no serious history of dilution).

Regulations
As many of you are aware, regulations are a huge part of the nicotine industry. Taxes are going to be huge risks, which are then combined with flavor bans. I think nicotine pouches are one of the products that are least likely to get hit with serious bans since their health risk is much lower than almost any other nicotine product.
The nicotine pouch industry as a whole has been behaving spectacularly well when it comes to ensuring they are not purposefully marketing to young people. They are trying to avoid having a Juul 2.0 fiasco which basically murdered that business and completely fragmented the vaping industry which is on the brink of regulatory crack down.
HAYPP does their part by ensuring age regulation across their whole site. They have age verification to order and deliver. They have a huge emphasis on ensuring that they abide by the law.

Financials
Core Segment (Nordic Countries)
The company is growing heavily in every segment that it operates in. Its core segment seems to be slowing down in growth due to heavy cannibalization from snus sales. This should only be temporary as nicotine pouch volume grows at 30%+ y/y. Once snus nears its cannibalization endpoint, I would expect revenue to begin growing again in its core market (although not at 30%). Current revenue is $250m USD and EBITDA is about $18m USD for just the core segment for the last twelve months. Management expects high single digit EBITDA margins for 2025.
Core Segment Sales and EBITDA Margin
Growth Segment (US, UK, Germany, Switzerland)
The growth segment is skyrocketing. Growth is over 46% y/y and this growth has been consistent and should continue to be consistent. EBITDA margin for the growth markets has begun to inflect positively which will cause a massive amount of leverage in their EBITDA to occur as their fixed cost model begins to do its job. As economies of scale drive forward, we should see this margin increase substantially over the coming years. Currently Revenue is at $77m USD for growth markets and EBITDA is at -$3.5m USD.
Growth Segment Sales and EBITDA Margin
Let’s Talk about the Growth Segment a bit more.
This is where the real value from HAYPP will come into play. While it currently begins to inflect positive in terms of profitability, it should be noted that the Growth markets have a massive TAM compared to their core market and could cause the company to 5x in the next few years if they maintain or gain market share and continue to grow in these massive TAMs.
Total TAM growth
As they grow, their competitive advantage deepens due to sticky customers and cheaper products from economies of scale. The US has an even faster scale of 49%+ growth y/y and HAYPP is outpacing the US nicotine pouch growth at 57% y/y. As the US begins to approve various products and variety begins to flood the US market, a ton of US users want to try various Nordic brands that don’t have access which lends a very strong lean towards an online website such as HAYPP. The US is a very ripe environment along with the UK and Germany (where nicotine can only be sold online) for HAYPP to continue to outperform massively.
Emerging Segment
Their “emerging” segment is where they have begun to introduce vapes into their value chain. HAYPP is beginning to sell vapes to UK and Germany, but it is at the very beginning stages and has no current significant impact on their bottom or top line. The company says the growth they are experiencing in this segment has been very similar to the growth that they experienced when they introduced Nicotine Pouches in growth markets. This is the most likely segment to get hit with regulatory concerns, so for now I won’t even consider this in a to be a profitable unit and will just assume it will be a small drain on EBITDA for the foreseeable future.
Balance Sheet
The balance sheet is great with no large debt burden and good working capital management. As they hit profitability this yeaearly next year I would expect a cash build up until the company decides if they will be returning cash to shareholders or reinvesting in the business.

Valuation
HAYPP is extremely undervalued based on where they are from a profitability standpoint and their current inflection point. Due to their high growth, it will be hard to pinpoint an exact value on them so this will merely be an exercise in estimating their value among a range more than usual (anyone who claims they can perfectly value a high growth company is probably overvaluing due to unsound conviction).
First let’s look at how they are currently valued, which is roughly 14x their core EBITDA. Now let’s take a second and think about how insane that statement was. Their core market is the Nordic countries which will be hitting growth again as their snus cannibalization slows, the Nordic countries basically have no further regulation risk for nicotine pouches, and it is a noncyclical industry. I would argue that 14x their core EBITDA is probably an appropriate valuation based on only their core segment.
What this means is (if you haven’t noticed already) that you are getting their “growth” segment for free based on the valuation of the stock. The growth segment alone is probably worth multiples of the current stock price due to the massive TAM and extreme growth prospects. If we assume the emerging segment is worthless (which it isn’t and it will be profitable at some point) then that means all of the upside in the stock can be based on what the value of the growth segment. Based on TAM, growth, and lack of cyclicality then this leaves the only risk as regulation.
There will most likely be some sort of regulation, but we are very far from that as the Tobacco industry has been very careful in how they implement their new nicotine pouch momentum in a more appropriate way compared to vapes. The most likely regulations will probably be flavor bans of some sort or retail bans (which further benefits HAYPP). Regulations will most likely be limited in scope due to just the sheer lack of mortality risk associated with pouches vs any other form of common nicotine intake.
Based on their probable conservative revenue growth (40% average for the next 3 years, and 15% after that), EBITDA growth, the fact that they will have both core and growth markets at high single digit EBITDA margins in 2025, and their lack of cyclicality, then I would estimate that their Growth markets are worth a very conservative $400m-$500m USD. I am likely undershooting the valuation because they are driving profitability very fast and their revenue is growing closer to 40%-60% in growth markets right now. If they are able to keep up current growth figures and expand to double digit margins before the end of the decade then they could be worth 2x-3x this value (which is why valuing growth companies are so hard, because I can’t foresee the future). Again, I valued the emerging segment as worthless which is unlikely as well.
So, based on the value of $450m USD for the growth markets and the current value of $240 USD for the Nordic markets, that would create a sum of the parts equal to roughly $700m or nearly triple the current share price. This valuation leaves a ton of room for margin expansion and higher growth prospects because let’s face it, the US alone is probably worth at least 3x-5x more than the Nordic countries not including the UK, Germany, or Swiss. This is a very conservative valuation for the company, but it shows how great the risk/reward is based on the current price. Using a conservative valuation here also helps accommodate for regulation risk.
In SEK terms this would be 250 SEK/share or 7.35B SEK.
Conclusion
Even accommodating for regulation risk, a valuation of $700m seems appropriate as a starting point for the valuation for HAYPP Group. I think there is a very high likelihood that I could be off on this by a large margin, but I feel like the downside is very protected with this valuation. Management has been great in execution and I expect that to continue. In a more bullish case where every segment of the company fires on all cylinders we could see a valuation of $1.5B+, but that is not a scenario that I would like to bet my investors’ money on. For now, I will stay invested and keep watching them execute and adjust my valuation accordingly.

HAYPP currently owns a roughly 85% online market share for their Nordic part of the business, which they refer to as their “core” business as well as a ~55% market share of the oral nicotine market (85% market share of the legal nicotine pouch e-commerce market) for their growth market which is considered the US, UK, Germany, and Swiss countries.
2024.05.10 17:09 Herbal_Mind Vaping Health Risks and Flavored E-Cigarettes: Unraveling the Implications for Public Health

The transformation of chemical flavors in e-cigarettes through the process of pyrolysis reveals a complex and potentially hazardous chemical landscape. The use of artificial intelligence to predict these chemical transformations sheds light on the vast array of substances vapers are potentially inhaling, many of which carry classifications as acute toxins, health hazards, and irritants. This study’s findings are particularly concerning because they suggest that the act of vaping introduces the lungs to a plethora of unknown chemicals, the long-term effects of which remain largely uncharted. The identification of numerous pyrolysis products not typically associated with the combustion of traditional tobacco underscores the unique risks posed by vaping. Unlike tobacco smoke, which has been extensively studied over decades, the health implications of these new chemical entities are a step into the unknown, necessitating cautious evaluation and regulation.
In addition to identifying specific hazardous compounds, this research reveals the potential for vaping to lead to new forms of chronic diseases that may only become apparent after years of exposure. This insight calls for a proactive approach to public health policy and individual decision-making regarding e-cigarette use. For consumers, especially young adults attracted by the myriad flavors of e-liquids, this information serves as a critical reminder of the principle of precaution. The allure of flavors masks a potentially harmful concoction of chemicals, making it imperative that consumers are informed of the risks involved in vaping. For public health policymakers, the study’s revelations highlight the urgent need for regulations that address not only the nicotine content in e-cigarettes but also the chemical composition of the flavors and the resultant pyrolysis products.
Flavor Preferences, Sensation-Seeking, and Youth Vaping Trends
The study examining the relationship between sensation-seeking behavior and flavored e-cigarette use among Indonesian adolescents and young adults illuminates the psychological and social factors driving the popularity of these products. High sensation-seekers, drawn to novel and intense experiences, find the wide array of e-cigarette flavors particularly appealing. This phenomenon underscores the role of flavor diversity in attracting not just traditional smokers but also a new, younger audience to e-cigarette use. Flavors such as menthol and fruit not only mimic the taste profiles familiar and enticing to this demographic but also serve to dissociate the act of vaping from the negative health connotations of tobacco smoking.
The classification of users into primarily menthol flavor users, experimenters with a strong preference for fruit-flavored e-cigarettes, and multi-flavor users with higher sensation-seeking tendencies provides valuable insights into targeting public health interventions. These findings suggest that restricting access to flavored e-cigarettes could significantly reduce their appeal to adolescents and young adults, potentially curbing the initiation of vaping in this vulnerable age group. Public health policies that ban or limit the availability of these flavors could deter non-smokers from taking up vaping, thereby preventing the normalization of e-cigarette use among the youth. Moreover, these measures could also reduce the likelihood of dual use, where individuals use both traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes, exacerbating their exposure to nicotine and other harmful substances.
Moving Forward: Recommendations for Consumers and Policymakers
For consumers, particularly young adults and parents, the message is clear: the risks associated with vaping, especially with flavored e-liquids, are real and potentially very serious. While the full spectrum of health implications is still being uncovered, the evidence points to the need for caution and informed decision-making. Individuals considering e-cigarettes as a safer alternative to smoking or as a means to quit should weigh the potential risks of exposure to unknown chemical byproducts against the benefits.
For policymakers, the findings from these studies underscore the necessity of enacting stricter regulations on the e-cigarette industry. This includes not only limiting the nicotine content in e-liquids but also regulating the chemical composition of flavors to prevent the formation of harmful pyrolysis products. Additionally, public health campaigns should aim to educate the public, especially youth, on the risks of vaping and the deceptive appeal of flavored e-cigarettes. By adopting a proactive and precautionary approach, it is possible to mitigate the public health risks associated with this relatively new mode of nicotine consumption.
Herbal Formula for Supporting Lung Health and Detoxification
Given the context provided by the research papers on vaping health risks and the complex interplay of chemical substances involved, it’s clear that any herbal formula recommended should aim at supporting lung health, detoxifying the body from chemical byproducts, and potentially mitigating the oxidative stress caused by inhaling pyrolysis products. It’s important to note, however, that while these herbs can support lung health and detoxification, they cannot counteract all the negative effects of vaping or replace the need for medical advice and cessation of vaping. Here’s a suggested herbal formula:
  1. **Mullein (Verbascum thapsus)**: Mullein is renowned for its soothing effect on the bronchial tubes and lungs. It acts as an expectorant, facilitating the expulsion of mucus and easing coughs. This makes it potentially valuable for mitigating some effects of vaping on lung health.
  2. **Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)**: Milk thistle is a powerful liver detoxifier and supports liver health. Its active constituent, silymarin, has antioxidant properties that can help protect the liver from toxins and promote liver regeneration. Given the liver’s role in detoxifying chemicals from the body, milk thistle could be beneficial for individuals exposed to harmful byproducts of vaping.
  3. **Turmeric (Curcuma longa)**: Turmeric, and specifically its active compound curcumin, has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It can help combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, potentially counteracting some of the systemic effects of vaping.
  4. **Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)**: Rich in antioxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), green tea can help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress. Its mild stimulant effect, due to caffeine, can also offer a healthier alternative to the stimulant effect of nicotine.
  5. **N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)**: While not an herb, NAC is a supplement derived from the amino acid L-cysteine. It has been shown to support lung and liver health by boosting levels of glutathione, a critical antioxidant in the body. NAC can help break down mucus and detoxify harmful substances, making it particularly relevant for individuals exposed to vaping byproducts.
  6. **Ginger (Zingiber officinale)**: Ginger has been used traditionally to support digestive health and reduce inflammation. Its inclusion in the formula can help mitigate nausea that some individuals might experience from detoxifying or as a side effect of quitting vaping.
This herbal formula is designed to offer supportive care for the lungs and liver, promote detoxification, and reduce oxidative stress. However, it’s crucial to approach vaping cessation holistically, including lifestyle changes and seeking professional support when necessary.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while e-cigarettes present an opportunity for harm reduction among traditional smokers, the emerging evidence on the health risks associated with vaping, particularly with flavored e-liquids, calls for a balanced and cautious approach. Ensuring that the public is well-informed and that regulations reflect the latest scientific findings will be key in safeguarding public health in the face of the evolving landscape of tobacco product use.

MYSTERY SOLVED: WHY ARE MY CLEAR GLASSES FRAMES TURNING YELLOW?
Friends, are you searching for why are my clear glasses frames turning yellow? This is the webpage you are searching. Clear glasses frames are a popular trend for a stylish and sophisticated look. But, many people who wear them face a puzzling issue: the frames turn yellow.
https://preview.redd.it/vqdmnqxcoizc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=de7a9dd5ffe30f62dd085268742f7fc39a6ee126
Glasses Frames Turning Yellow
In this guide, we will explore the reasons behind why are my clear glasses frames turning yellow, and many more. Let's uncover the mystery of why clear glasses frames turn yellow.
Detailed Answer: Why Are My Clear Glasses Frames Turning Yellow?
Clear glasses frames, transparent, can develop a yellowish tint due to several factors. Understanding these causes is crucial for preventing yellowing and maintaining the frames' longevity. Let's explore the reasons behind this phenomenon.
UV Exposure: The Sun's Impact
Prolonged exposure to sunlight's ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a significant cause of yellowing. When exposed to sunlight, UV rays trigger a chemical reaction in the frames' plastic materials. Over time, this reaction breaks down the polymers, resulting in yellow frames. The higher the UV exposure, the more pronounced the yellowing effect.
Oxidation: The Aging Process
Another common cause of yellowing is oxidation. As frames age, their plastic materials come into contact with oxygen in the air. This exposure triggers oxidation, leading to yellowing. Factors like humidity, temperature, and air quality affect the oxidation rate.
Environmental Factors: Pollution and Chemicals
Environmental factors like pollution and chemical exposure lead to yellowing. Airborne pollutants, cleaning agents, cosmetics, and hair products affect the plastic materials of the frames. This interaction causes discoloration over time. Smoke from cigarettes or cooking can also speed up yellowing. These factors contribute to the gradual change in color. Over time, the frames become yellowed due to these environmental influences.
Natural Body Oils: A Hidden Culprit
The natural oils produced by our skin can affect the clarity and color of clear glasses frames. When frames come into contact with these oils, they gradually build up on the surface, leading to a yellowish appearance. This is particularly true for individuals with oily skin or frequently touching their frames.
Poor Maintenance and Cleaning Habits
Improper maintenance and cleaning habits worsen yellowing. Harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners can damage frames. This makes them more susceptible to discoloration. Neglecting regular cleaning allows dirt, oils, and other substances to accumulate. This increases the likelihood of yellowing.
Quality of Materials: Inferior Plastic
The quality of plastic used in clear glasses frames can contribute to yellowing. Inferior plastic is prone to discoloration when exposed to environmental factors or UV radiation. Opting for high-quality frames reduces the risk of yellowing.
FAQs:
Why do my clear glasses frames turn yellow, even if I rarely wear them outside?
Even with infrequent outdoor use, clear frames can still be exposed to UV radiation indoors. Sunlight streaming through windows or artificial UV light sources can contribute to yellowing.
Can I prevent my clear glasses frames from turning yellow?
Yes, you can take preventive measures. Minimize exposure to UV radiation, clean the frames regularly with mild soap and water, and store them in a protective case when not in use.
How can I remove the yellowing from my clear glasses frames?
You can try various methods. One effective approach is using a mixture of baking soda and water as a gentle abrasive. Specialized cleaning products designed for plastic surfaces' discoloration removal can also be used.
Are all clear glasses frames prone to yellowing?
Not all clear glasses frames are equal. The plastic quality, UV protection level, and overall craftsmanship influence frames' susceptibility to yellowing. Opting for high-quality frames and proper care can help reduce the risk.
Can I reverse the yellowing of my clear glasses frames?
In some cases, it is possible to reverse the yellowing. Using hydrogen peroxide or specialized yellowing reversal products can help restore their clarity. Follow instructions carefully and perform a patch test before applying any treatments.
Should I seek professional help if my clear glasses frames turn yellow?
If your efforts to prevent or reverse yellowing are unsuccessful, seek professional help. Consult an optician or eyewear specialist for personalized advice. They can recommend solutions for your frames' conditions.
Can clear glasses frames turn yellow in humid places?
Yes, humid environments can speed up the yellowing of clear glasses frames. The moisture in the air can react with the plastic frames, causing more oxidation and discoloration. To reduce this, store your glasses in a dry area when not using them and consider using dehumidifiers in humid regions.
Conclusion
Hope you learned the best answer to why are my clear glasses frames turning yellow. The yellowing of clear glasses frames can be frustrating.
And protect your frames from UV radiation, clean them regularly, and adopt good maintenance practices. By taking proactive steps, you can keep your clear glasses frames looking fresh and transparent. Say goodbye to yellowing and embrace clarity!

2024.05.09 06:20 Larkful_Dodger A guide for those looking to quit smoking or get off disposable vapes and start their journey on refillable vapes or pods

A guide for those looking to quit smoking or get off disposable vapes and start their journey on refillable vapes or pods

With the Australian regulation bans on importation of disposable vapes on 1st of Jan 2024 and importation of reusable vapes on 1st of March 2024 in place, vapes in general are getting more difficult to come by outside of the prescription or pharmacy model.
New regulation of vapes starting January 2024 Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)
Importation of vape liquid flavours, other than tobacco, mint and menthol are part of the regulatory ban on of 1st March 2024. So after stock imported before the ban, has run out, those flavours will be all that is available.
However, domestic manufacturing of 0% nicotine flavoured vape liquid is still legal, pending the outcome of voting on the bill to legislate a ban on domestic manufacture, advertisement, supply and commercial possession of non-therapeutic vapes in Australia, so that may change. If the ban becomes legislation, then DIY is an option (see further below).
This article outlines the steps to take and options to legally purchase vapes and nicotine liquid from an online pharmacy, with a prescription from an online prescriber. This will more than likely be an easier pathway than going to your local GP and pharmacy because many GPs are unfamiliar with vaping and many pharmacies don't stock vapes.
You will need to submit a script to see what is available, as they cannot legally show any vape products until your script is approved.
Getting a prescription and accessing an online pharmacy
There are online prescribers and online pharmacies that specialise in vaping products. Some are separate, others are one-stop-shops for both vape prescription and pharmacy services or partnered with each other.
You can get a script from online prescribers like quitrx.com.au or one-stop-shops like v-scripts.com.au, myduke.com.au and quithero.com.au, amongst others.
Generally, applying is an online questionnaire and the script is emailed to you, or access to an online pharmacy's products is granted.
Prices for prescriptions can vary. Some are free, but limited to their own products, for example myduke.com.au.
Quitmed.com.au and quithero.com.au have the biggest range of vape products, there are many others listed here. Some accept outside scripts, others from their partnered prescribers.
Nicotine vape liquid
You can buy ready-to-vape nicotine liquid, prefilled pods, or purchase nicotine concentrate from a pharmacy and mix it with 0% nicotine flavoured vape liquid.
0% nicotine flavoured liquid can be purchased without a script from vape stores like: vapoureyes.com.au, vapeking.com.au, vapelink.com.au, wickandwireco.com.au.
A more comprehensive list of online and 'bricks and mortar' vape stores in Australia is available here.
Nicotine liquid comes in freebase and salt forms. The difference between freebase and salt nicotine, is that freebase has a better 'throat hit' and is regularly used for vaping at lower levels of nicotine in a higher wattage device, although many use it at moderate levels with a lower wattage device too. Salt nicotine has an acid added, like benzoic acid, so is less irritating to the throat at higher nicotine levels and absorbs into the bloodstream quicker.
Note: disposable vapes generally contain around 50mg/ml (5%) of salt nicotine in Australia, even if there is no information on the label.
If you're coming off disposables, depending on the wattage of the device you decide to use (some are adjustable), 50mg/ml salt nicotine may be too much, so 25mg/ml (2.5%) to 30mg/ml (3%) may be enough. Freebase, at a lower dose, is also an alternative.
For freebase nicotine, the dose range is around 12mg/ml (1.2%) to 18mg/ml (1.8%), anything much above 18mg/ml tends to be irritating to the throat, so salt nicotine is recommended.
If you're coming off smoking, freebase maybe suitable in the transition to vaping because of the 'throat hit' that is similar to a cigarette. Otherwise, if a higher nicotine dose is needed or cravings aren't satisfied, salt nicotine is an alternative.
These nicotine levels are for low watt devices, not sub-ohm high powered vapes that are usually vaped with around 3-6mg/ml of freebase nicotine.
Nicotine concentrate
(Note: If you want things as simple as possible, skip this and go to 'ready to vape liquid' below).
100mg/ml freebase and salt nicotine concentrate are available to mix with 0% nicotine flavoured vape liquid. Quitmed.com.au and Quithero.com.au stock the best value salt or freebase concentrate at $32.90 for 100ml, at time of writing.
You can use a nicotine calculator to work out your desired nicotine level using 100mg/ml nicotine concentrate: Nicotine Calculator - Wick and Wire Co Australia.
If you want to add nicotine concentrate to 0% nicotine flavoured ready-to-vape liquid, you can remove the amount of mls from the bottle, to replace it with the same mls of your chosen mg/ml of concentrate, to get an accurate dose. It also provides enough of a gap in the bottle to do so. You can add the nicotine, without removing liquid to avoid wastage, as long as there's enough room. Just consider that it will be a less accurate dose, especially if a lot of concentrate is used. Alternatively, there are 'shortfill' 0% nicotine flavoured liquid bottles with a gap already.
Another option is a 0% nicotine flavoured liquid 'doubler' that is half filled with double concentration flavour, a bit like cordial. With a doubler, you replace the shortfall after adding nicotine concentrate with unflavoured PG/VG (more about PG/VG below).
With a doubler, you avoid flavour dilution that you would otherwise get adding nicotine concentrate to ready-to-vape liquid, especially when a lot of nicotine concentrate is required.
For example, if your desired nicotine level is 25mg/ml, you would be adding 30mls of 100mg/ml nicotine concentrate to a 60ml doubler. That would make 120mls of 25mg/ml juice when you add 30mls of unflavoured PG/VG.
Take precautions when dealing with nicotine concentrate: FAQ: "Spiking" 0mg e-liquid with your 100mg nicotine.
PG and VG
PG is Propylene glycol and VG is vegetable glycerin, they are the base of vape liquid that carries flavours and nicotine, making up the 4 ingredients of flavoured nicotine vape liquid. More about PG and VG here.
Vape liquid comes in a mix of PG and VG, usually around 50PG/50VG and 30PG/70VG, though there are other ratios.
When choosing vape liquid, 50PG/50VG liquid will carry flavour better and have more of a 'throat hit', being higher PG and is generally for lower wattage devices. 30PG/70VG liquid is smoother and produces more vapour because of the higher VG and tends to be used in higher wattage devices. 30PG/70VG can however, be used in lower wattage devices as well.
When mixing 100mg/ml nicotine concentrate, consider that it's usually PG based and can change the ratio of PG/VG in a 0% nicotine flavoured liquid quite a lot, depending on how much is added. 50PG/50VG together with a larger amount of nicotine PG concentrate might be irritating. In this case, using a 30PG/70VG 0% nicotine flavoured liquid, or a doubler and adding flavourless 30PG/70 VG or 100% VG to the shortfall may be best.
DIY
Regardless of any bans, you can still make your own vape liquid. PG, VG and flavours will always be available as they are all used in food manufacturing. Stock of PG, VG and flavours can be sourced from basedrop.com.au and flavourworld.com.au. Recipes can be found at alltheflavors.com and advice on mixing vape liquid at .
Ready to vape liquid
You can buy ready-to-vape nicotine liquid in various strengths up to 50mg/ml (5%), however, you're limited to the brands and flavours on offer at pharmacies.
Prefilled pods
Devices with prefilled pods of flavoured nicotine liquid are also available. They are the most convenient, but also by far, the most expensive.
Flavour profile of disposable vapes vs reusable vapes
Many disposable vapers are looking to replicate the flavour of disposable vapes when they switch to refillable vapes. There is a lot more sweetener and menthol (AKA ice or ws-23 cooling agent) in disposables, so getting a vape liquid with a similar profile or adding sweetener and ws-23 might be an option. You can get advice about adding sweetener etc, at . However, higher levels of sweetener can potentially reduce the life of the coil in your refillable device and you may get used to the flavour profile of vape juice for refillable vapes anyway.
Availability of devices and coils/pods
There are plenty of devices available that are not approved by the TGA for sale in pharmacies, though stock of them and coils/pods will be an ongoing issue as importation of unapproved devices is banned.
The TGA has an approved list of notified vapes. Popular examples are the Uwell Caliburn G3, Vaporesso XROS 3, Vaporesso XROS 3 Mini and the Vaporesso Luxe X.
If you want to keep things simple, consider going for the XROS 3 Mini, it is a lower wattage 'mouth to lung' (MTL) device, with auto draw (inhale activated). It is similar to a disposable, and as similar as possible to a cigarette.
The XROS 3 differs from the XROS 3 Mini in that it has a fire button (with option of auto draw) and adjustable airflow so you can control the tightness of the draw and as such, it can be used for 'restricted direct lung' (RDL) as well as MTL.
The Caliburn G3 is also a MTL and RDL device with auto draw, adjustable airflow and wattage up to 25w (depending on the coil used), so you can control the amount of vapour produced.
The Luxe X is a higher wattage device (up to 40w), with adjustable airflow, that can be used for both (MTL) or 'direct lung' (DL) vaping and is the most versatile of the vapes above.
These devices, compatible coils/pods and others on the list can be found in pharmacies and vape stores (subject to availability).
Here is a link to vapem8.com.au, an Australian vape finder and comparison site to help find vapes, juice, pods, coils etc in stock, outside of pharmacies.

2024.05.08 17:57 shrpboi Shortage of Info on The Effects of Snus/Nicotine Pouches(ZYN)

While watching the "Smoking is awesome" vid, it hit me – There's a shortage of reliable and accessible info on the health effects of Snus and nicotine pouches like ZYN. Which makes it especially bad that some highly popular social media influencers are tossing around misinformation.
There are known downsides like; problems with gums, potentially cancer (according to a 2019 Norwegian health report on Swedish snus), heart problems(?), and obviously the nicotine addiction. But what do the ingredients of snus (mainly nicotine/tobacco) actually do to our bodies and brains, both short-term and long-term. And how does this compare to inhaling cigarette smoke?
The research gap is pretty obvious compared to the wealth of studies we have on smoking, largely because snus users are a much smaller group globally. Most research comes from Scandinavia, and it's only in the last two decades that snus has become popular among young Norwegians and Swedes. Now its brand new cousin ZYN (nicotine pouches) are catching on in America. There's this whole new audience getting into the trend without accesible and solid info on what it does to them.
With Kurzgesagt's broad reach, a video might unintentionally promote snus, but it would certainly educate about this gray area and might inspire public demand for more research.

2024.05.08 08:38 dietwater94 I quit hard drugs but I’m struggling to quit vaping

I need some tips. So I have had an issue with addiction/excessive indulgence in hedonistic tendencies for my whole life. I was able to quit using heroin/fent, crack and Xanax and I’ve been clean since June 26 2021. I also stopped smoking cigarettes while I was in rehab, and after rehab moved to a place where cigarettes are much less popular and more expensive (I had been in NC so they were dirt cheap)
I started vaping even though I wanted to stay off of nicotine. The job I started, as well as AA meetings I attend, it was really popular to vape at. I now want to stop and I’m frustrated because I can’t. For context, I live with my girlfriend and she also vapes and has expressed interest in quitting but isn’t as serious as I am (she is also in recovery so she knows what it takes, she’s been sober longer than me) I’ve tried using Zyn and I hate having them in my mouth, and ultimately what I’ve determined is that I’m more addicted to the action/oral fixation piece of vaping. I’ve been weaning off and my intake of actual nicotine is so low that I’m not worried about being able to stop the nicotine piece, I’m just not sure how to get myself out of the fixation on the action of smoking/vaping something. Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance!

2024.05.07 10:16 ConfusionDry2084 I found some notes from a detective about a case that has yet to be solved

Hi guys, this is my first time posting on here, but hopefully won't be my last. I found These notes saved on a floppy disk that was in my attic. I didn't even know what it was at first! Labeled on it was the name "Jim McCasey, my last name, but I didn't know any Jim. When I asked my dad he said he was my great uncle. We don't talk to my dad's family much and even then he didn't know his uncle very well. When he died he ended up with a box of some of his police stuff. I managed to get the disk and after reading a little bit i thought it would be cool if Wendigoon and meatcanyon could read it, it seems like something they would like. I'm gonna post a little bit here (mainly Here's because I'm banned on nosleep haha) Heres the first section, if you want to see more please upvote and comment!
I'm writing this down just for clarity, maybe closure if there i any for me to find. My name is Captain Donald Jim McCasey. I'm 58 years old and was born in 1933 in Nashville, Tennessee to Chris and Helen McCasey, both immigrants from Ireland. Being Irish in the 1940s means it was set in stone that I would be a police officer. Not much more the only son of a poor Irish family could do back then. I joined the Davidson County Sheriff's Office in 1952 as a deputy, though it didn't take long for me to get promoted. In 63 David County and Nashville decided to merge their two offices into the Metropolitan Nashville police department something I never agreed on but also something I had no say in. I was born in Nashville General but I hated the city, it was nothing but a den of degeneracy and crime. Every other day we would lose another one of our Deputies on those filthy streets. At this point I had been promoted to detective, You are probably wondering why I am skimming over so much of my life, that is because I am not here to talk about my life. I wish to discuss the events of January 1968 to August of 1973. Almost 6 years of my life that has taken over the other 6 decades of my life. I do not want forgiveness from whoever reads this, I am simply leaving this as written admittance of my wrongdoing for my own sake. January 31st, 1968, I left for work at 6:30 every morning. I kissed my wife on the cheek and left just as my kids were getting on the school bus. I arrived to work around 7. I was running late that day and my morning coffee had been cold. I remember it in such detail as this was one of the last moments I had true peace in my life. I got the order down from the top brass for a dead body found on the bank of the Cumberland River. I had no immediate reaction to that. Back then it was a popular mob dumping spot, we pulled a body out of there weekly. I groaned at the idea of filling out paperwork for another greaseball getting whacked and us having to clean up the mess. I collected my belongings and took my 66 Pontiac to the crime scene. When I arrived 45 minutes later, the usual crowd of people was replaced with few and far between cops keeping an army of reporters away from the shore of the banks. If this didn't tell me that something was different, the smell definitely did. It wasn't the usual smell of regular rot and death I find when approaching a dead body, but this was something different. The smell was that which I can only describe as something my father had described to me. My father was an infantryman in the war, he was extremely proficient with pyrotechnics. For two long years, he used a flame thrower to set people on fire for his country in France. The look in my father's eye as he remembered setting men ablaze like the devil himself. Remembering how it felt, Remembering the smell, It's what I felt then. On the shore was the torso of what was once human had been diminished to a black charred lump lain on the riverbank. Approaching the crime scene, it was a small congregation of sparse fellow men of the law and a few grave robbers from the county morgue. I take one last drag from my cigarette before flicking it into the wet grass a few feet away. Having an ex-wife who had cheated on me the year before, I had an eye for the littlest details that can be the difference between a closed case and a cold one. The victim was male, no significant cut marks on the chest and a matching hip bone to that of a male. Burning, cutting up, and disposing of the body shows clear shame in the murder. At the moment it was difficult to tell the cause of death, though a few days later it was revealed that burning alive was the cause of death, and he had been dead for a week, give or take. In just a few minutes of silent staring, I already had a profile of the killer. The killer was male, extremely sadistic, and possibly a victim of abuse or trauma that caused him to be unaffected by torture and traumatic experiences, like burning a person alive. My theory at the time was that he was some kind of veteran due to the specific fuel burns on his back. The only person who would know how to properly use a flamethrower is someone who served. Then again it could have been some kind of gasoline. The torso held many secrets not obvious to most, but here i was gathering personality traits from a corpse. Without a word, I finished writing in my notebook and left the crime scene. A week later they found a burned elbow behind a bodega downtown. Three days after that a skull belonging to a Kevin DeMasso found in the man's own yard after he was reported missing a month before. An hour later the case was on my desk. Reviewing the evidence of the other parts it was clearly similar to our torso, except each part was found in much more obvious places, which was not good. There was no denying that there was a killer on the loose, and the only person who would be looking for leads more than I would be the media. Little did I know that this case would be the one to ruin 2 marriages, a relationship with my firstborn, and the chance of me ever getting another sleepless night.

2024.05.07 10:02 sonofgreedandlust I'm confused about the id age verification stuff

I'm a normal person I don't have any law degrees or really any deep knowledge of supreme court cases or decisions so about 2-3 weeks ago I found this sub trying to get more informed about the supreme court and the most popular post that I seen was the whole age id verification for online porn I've been reading comments and reading the cert petition, posts from Free Speech Coalition and ACLU posts, and the opinion piece that was posted here and all of this has me confused. I'm seeing free speech coalition and ACLU basically saying here's why this is unconstitutional using RENO v ACLU, and Ashcroft v ACLU and maybe some other cases I don't remember and how the 5th circuit went against years of precedent set by the supreme court, the opinion piece basically said that since they declined the stay that the supreme court is going against precedents that will in long run probably end up with people having to use their id to basically use the internet.
I've read comments both saying how this is and isn't constitutional also using some of the same decisions I've mentioned and obscenity laws and how you get carded for alcohol and cigarettes so it makes sense to do the same here to how this court isn't that much different than the court in 08 that did Ashcroft and how the supreme court has been more in favor with free speech. With the supreme court not giving a reason why they decided not to stay the 5th circuits decision all this all together has left me very confused from everything that I've read to me it seems like the supreme court would just continue with the prior precedents that has been establish right or would new ruling be made that would basically overturn all the prior decisions like Ashcroft? How do cases like this work cause reading all the comments the posts from FSC and ACLU and the opinion piece makes it seem like it can go either way and with a lower court going against prior supreme court decisions how do cases like this get decided?

2024.05.07 09:48 Empty-Middle-5513 Does anyone have parents that always treat other people better than they’re own family?

My old man used to be the type of guy that likes to be big shot or hero in his village. He would be the one to do any favors for his relatives. They are always his first priority without any explanation. I’m young so I know that he was kind of well like and popular, so he doesn’t want that image to fade when he goes back on vacation when he quit his job. He’s a family man for his mom and sibling to nephew and niece. Even when my mom is bullied by his sister and mother, he ignore it by walking out with his “friends.” It was an arrange marriages society back then so there no love love. A lot of people got accidentally knock up end up marrying each other or force to marry because they can’t find spouse on their own as working adults. My mom is so weak to stand up for herself or even try runaway. All she does mope and procrastinate through watching tv. He alway tell stories about how my dad sold tv and motorcycle she bought from hk thinking he’ll resell for a profit instead for giving away for cheap. Even people like his own pig butcher elder brother would take advantage of the situation by bringing rotten garbage meat in exchange for cash because he can’t finish selling it. It’s clever because this is a business transaction and my father is such a sucker. Those meat end up feeding the trees and plants. Another event that happen is one of his nephew use my elder sister mouth as cigarette tray for fun. I hate when I confront him. He just say grow up and don’t be childish or stupid abc meanwhile he wasted so much money buying other people present like gold jewelry. He doesn’t have money to give his own family a decent life as the man of the house. The only time that he would fork out money for me to go play is when my cousin are involved and it must be share with them.
To make myself feel better since yes you can’t choose who your parents are or wish that they never gave birth to you, but
In a way, he’s probably covering up for himself that he’s depress in usa. In a way, he might have been happier and successful if he let his pride go and stay living in China. Not only he stay unemployed and smoke most of the time in the west, but his mental health declining and he would definitely not acknowledge it. 2024.05.06 16:41 CoffeeBoss876 Spray packs becoming popular in Western Mass.

The new day is here! Spray packs! Flavor infused pre-rolls packaged like packs of cigarettes. 8th jars that smell like ripping open a package of kool-aid powder. Vape carts that taste like chewing a piece of artificial lavender or a piece of hubbabubba blueberry bubblegum to everything under the flavor sun that could be thought of. AND it's legal.
After some research and poking around, most shops admit they sell more of it than anything else! What happened to weed that just tastes good or vape carts that are sauce to pen or rosin-press-to pen that taste good? What happened to weed that just passes testing by itself? Holy F batman, looks like there's a lot of them! Call for backup.
What's with this? Well. Let's figure out one take on it. Nicotine vape consumers! ding ding ding. The younger AND older crowd is used to vaping things that taste like an artificial blueberry muffin, a cup of cheap coffee, a taste of artificial ice cream or a chewy piece of caramel or fruit.
This is most likely the reason why these spray packs are becoming so popular in other states like California and even as close as your neighbors in Western mass and Boston.
Please don't fall victim to the spray packs when visiting other states. It's real and its out there.
How do they do it to flower? There are machines that look like an industrial dish washer from a restaurant. Picture big stainless steel box with a door on it and bells and whistles you can press and program with a usb or computer attached to it. These machines also "Clean" or scrub toxins and pathogens from flower that didn't or wouldn't pass testing. It doesn't remove it but it makes it so the material passes testing. These machines also spray terps onto the flower and infuse it. They can be loaded with terpenes of any kind. Load up the strawberry aroma oil, press the button. You now have strawberry scented and flavored flower. Fill the tank up with an artificial strain specific terpene and they can boost up mids to smell better or make something else out of totally different starting material. Seems spooky and unhealthy imo.
Stay safe when out of state!
