2024.05.14 17:31 misspierogiprincess a mostly successful introduction to Pineward

During my short exploration of fragrance, I've realized I enjoy dark and woodsy smells. A friend introduced me to Pineward and I even got my own sample of Hayride (hay, hot cocoa, vanilla, sweet vernal grass, bison grass, acorn nut bread, nutmeg, cardamom, spikenard, raisin, tonka, oakmoss) from someone's destash. I have yet to encounter more authentic nature scents. Hayride specifically is the epitome of autumn magic to me. It's dark, sweet, spicy, and that hay note did something right to my brain. Recently I purchased three samples from their website and only regret not exploring more! They arrived about a week after ordering too. I'm super open to any suggestions and hearing about your experiences!
Gelatto (makrut lime, jasmine sambac, mandarin orange, massoia bark, sandalwood, ambergris) This is bright and summery. Fruit and especially citrus scares me because it frequently comes across as sickeningly synthetic or cleaning supplies esque. This definitely doesn’t come across that way and I’m glad I tried something out of my comfort zone, even if it's not exactly my style. It is a fresh, floral, and cologney scent while maintaining a noticeable fruitiness. It feels reminiscent of tropical ocean air. 7/10
Murkwood (fir balsam, black hemlock, lapsang suchong, moss, incense, bitter myrrh, liturgical incense, dark and foreboding forest) The first thing I notice is a funky sweat smell while it’s wet. Am I experiencing the dreaded occurrence of something not working with my skin chemistry? I read so many appealing reviews about delightful bitter forest and incense yet all I can think of is the sweaty hermit inhabiting those woods. There is something enchanting about the authentic trees and moss I’m picking up. There’s a smokey, very mildly sweet incense element. Fortunately the B.O. stink begins fading as it dries and the bitter, earthy notes are more clear. My boyfriend described the dry fragrance as “old, dusty cabin in the woods” without looking at the notes. He stressed that it smells dark and ancient. Super interesting. I think a goblin should wear this but I’m not sure where or when I would wear it. 6/10 EDIT: I’ve been wearing this for almost two hours and the sweaty smell is noticeable once again. WHY
Pastoral (apricot preserve, blackberry jam, raw honey, propolis, beeswax, sweetgrass, hay bales, bran wheat, oat grains, bourbon vetiver, mate tea, oakmoss) I think this is my most successful fruit scent. It is genuinely jammy, I feel like I’m sticking my nose in a jar of dark fruitiness. Honey is very noticeable and there’s an overall thick, syrupy quality to this. I’m in love with authentic hay notes and can tell it’s lurking somewhere in here. This feels a little cozy and tasty in a way that’s not blatantly foodie or sugary. After about an hour there's less of an obvious fruit quality and it begins to spotlight the hay/tea/earthy aspects, which is still sweet and super pleasant. It never loses the heavy, jammy feeling. My coworker described it as "sweet woods" and my boyfriend said it smells like honey. Contemplating a bigger size! 9/10

2024.05.14 17:22 yellowstar93 How to make vegetables edible?

I've had a limited diet my whole life. Carbs, bread, pasta and pizza and cheese and dairy have been the majority of what I eat since I was little. I've never really been able to eat vegetables unless I force them down, they just taste disgusting. I'm also grossed out by most meats, the only ones I ate growing up were hot dogs and salami. I've never touched seafood and I'm not interested in any. Adding chicken to my diet in my late 20s was a HUGE win for me and opened up more options in restaurants etc. I used to be afraid of not finding anything to eat whenever going out. I like some fruits when they're available, like berries and apples. Anything in the melon family tastes weird and unappetizing to me. My parents say I used to eat more variety but started restricting more the older I got. Don't know what's up with that.
I need to make changes though. My doctor says I've crossed into obese BMI territory and I know it's terrible for me. I hate the way I look. My mother also had a heart attack due to arterial blockage earlier last year and I don't want the same thing to happen to me. But the vast majority of safe foods are high calorie high fat carby stuff. I know I need to eat vegetables but they're so disgusting and unappetizing. And I'm also short at 5'0 so my calories really need to be restricted in order to get to and stay at a healthier weight which fills me with despair. I don't want to be starving myself and forced to eat only vegetables the rest of my life and giving up the foods I actually do like in order to be a healthy weight.
Ranting over, now to the point. Does anyone have tips for making vegetables edible? I just hate that bitter sensation, I'm probably a supertaster and sensitive to bitter foods. Never liked coffee either. I need ways to hide the vegetable flavor so that I can eat them. I don't even know what to start with, maybe broccoli since it's so nutritious? What can I do to them that's still healthy but hides the flavor with something more tolerable? One thing that has worked for me lately is to mix cooked & shredded cauliflower into my rice when I make my homemade chicken tikka masala. The masala sauce is so flavorful it hides the taste of the cauliflower somewhat. Cauli is a more mild tasting vegetable I think so I don't know if this will work for other things. I'm looking for more ideas like that. I also have a dietician appointment in a couple of weeks to make a plan and get some more ideas. Hopefully they can help me. If you read this far thank you and best wishes to you all as well!

2024.05.14 17:21 Mashu1000 Letter to my LO

"I remember awesome dates and deep conversations. I thought i finally found my person. Why did you say we were in the wrong time of our lives, why did you want this to end so bad just to come back crying, absolutely mad at me, saying that i used you, that i take goodbyes so easily, meanwhile you knew i was absolutely broken inside? Your hot and cold behaviour, your mixed messages, your looking so distant. I was so much conditioned by your mood that it makes me crazy lol. My heart was shattered, we argued, you said so many bad things about me.
Now you're in my head all the time and i'm disgusted by it. Those few memories aren't sweet anymore, they fail to bring bittersweet joy in my daily life, just a lot of pain. I go from melancholy to sadness, loneliness, anger, frustration so fast that i feel on an never ending rollercoaster. I can't stop myself from thinking about the person i shared so much with in such a short period of time, the person that i tried to make feel understood and loved, the first person i was so comfortable to share my cringeworthy poems to. The person that sent all of that back to me in a bunch of painful words.
Now i really want to say that i don't care no more I really want to try and date someone again. I really want to forget you just as i'm sure you already did. But i can't. This little story reminded me of why i don't trust people often and why i don't share my deepest, truest side so easily. I want to move on, it' been two months now, two months for a f*cking one-month situationship lol. I'm even ashamed of it, it doesn't make sense I'm going on with my life (slowly) but i really want to move forward, all the love that i wanted to give to the wrong person will stay with me for now. Winds will change directions someday. If you ask, no, i don't hate you, i just want you out of my head."
This is just the chaos of thoughts i have in my head that i tried to write into a sort of letter, dedicated to LO, probably by all of those who can't heal so easily from unrequited love. Stay strong my friends, things will get better.

2024.05.14 17:18 fleckstin “Tricks” you thought you invented, only to learn they already existed?

A while ago I wrote this tune and was convinced that, by panning the guitar solo from R->L at ~2:40, I had invented a whole new thing.
I felt like hot shit and showed it to a friend, who then rained on my parade and showed me a bunch of songs that already used that effect.
Deflated my ego quite a bit. Are there any production/mixing tricks or effects that you were convinced you came up with, only to learn they had already existed for some time?

2024.05.14 17:16 Delicious-Rip-2371 [Spoilers extended] Holy shit. Just read Blood and Cheese for the first time

I'm sure most of you have already read it at this point, but if you haven't, you better eff off now because SPOILERS AHEAD.
Okay, now that the innocents are gone, WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?! How on EARTH are they going to get away with something this gruesome in the next season of HotD? Also, I don't remember seeing Helaena playing with Maelor in the brief shot we got of her with the kids last season; I only saw the twins. I can't imagine B&C being as effective without Maelor and the Sophie's Choice of it all. Did anyone catch a third kid in the mix?
I've seen a lot of posts on here saying it could be the next Red Wedding, and as much as I would love/hate that (especially since I'll be a reader who knew it was coming this time), I can't help but disagree. The Red Wedding happened after 3 seasons/over 3,000 pages, giving viewers and readers plenty of time to connect to Robb and Cat. Also, GRRM wrote the Red Wedding before he wrote B&C---it was the first time we knew George was not fucking around. No matter how fucked up things get in Fire and Blood, nothing can equal the shock of the Red Wedding. We were all sweet summer children before then. Now we're hardened cynics, shouting "COME AT ME BRO!" to whatever GRRM throws at us next.
I'd also argue that reading the Red Wedding is actually worse than watching it. First time I read it, I was on the subway and started crying uncontrollably, even though I'd already seen the show at that point and knew it was coming. Nothing can prepare you for the final Cat POV chapter. That said, I didn't have the same reaction when I read Blood and Cheese. I'm sure it's because of the style of writing, the lack of POV chapters, and how that influences the readers connections to the characters. I'm actually way sadder about what's going to happen to the show version of Helaena vs. what happened to the book version. Show version doesn't deserve what's coming. She's so sweet and perfect. It's gonna be rough.

2024.05.14 17:06 Brilliant-Bit-1879 Stomach bug or Flare?

Hi All,
I had a WILD experience last night. Just for some background, I was diagnosed with UC almost 2 weeks ago, currently taking prednisone (10mg x 3 times a day) and mesalamine (1,600 mg x 3 times a day) been on a low fiber diet to help my colon relax and heal and have had no blood, mucus or diarrhea, in fact my my BM (1-2 a day) progressed from soft to actually having a structure to them I don’t remember having. I will also preface that both my daughters seem to have a stomach bug and have been throwing up and complaining of stomach pain. So around 5:30 PM I’m keenly aware that I feel/look pretty bloated no pain, just distended. Then I start to feel nauseous…I had to run to the bathroom and projectile vomited. And it took everything out of me, literally and figuratively, then came the shits…i immediately clear everything from inside me (water and soft poop) mixed with hot flashes and this pattern of puke and poop maintained for about 6 hours, couldn’t keep water or sprite down and was literally crawling on the ground because I had no strength, my body was definitely draining itself. Body finally calms down around 1:30 AM and get sleep. I wake up today and generally feel great. No pain, no bloat, I’m tired for heaving from both sides of my body, but no urgency to use the bathroom and now I’m about 6 pounds lighter. I’ve never had a “proper” flare since I was just diagnosed and the last time I guess I had a flare was when I was peeing blood with urgency every 10 mins. If this is what a flare is then I’m never leaving my house again.

2024.05.14 16:32 physwm2501 Best way to utilize my rack hardware

My current hardware has been serving me well. I have a 1U asrack server, with 4 hot swappable bays. It has an amd 3600x and 64 GB of ecc ram. I run my plex-16 users, HA, cameras, game servers and a variety of support apps around those. This is all hosted from trunas core. The only 2 problems I have with the unit is it can’t do hardware transcode for plex and it’s at 96% storage capacity. The only upgrade I have ready to deploy is a coral accelerator for my frigate cameras.
My current hardware plan is to spin up a new server inside a Supermicro CSE-829HE1C4-R1K02LPB or something similar. I’ll put a recent intel cpu with the UHD 770 available for plex transcode purposes.
This should give me plenty of storage space and the transcoding I’m lacking on my other server, question is what should I run on each? Current idea is:
  1. New supermicro server - trunas core or scale
    a. Plex and it’s associated support apps
    b. network storage for my original 1u server
  2. Old asrack server. - trunas scale or proxmox
    a. Home automation - I’d like to run the native app but still trying to figure out the best implementation. Currently building a new home so I’ll have a large mix of z-wave devices, though it’s a blank slate at this point.
    b. Frigate - I‘ll have 8 reolink cameras using a dual coral chip for detetection
    c. Variety of game servers
    d. pihhole
    e. Home router - going to try the pciexpress version of the mikrotik router
I’m really comfortable with with trunas but don’t mind learning something new.

2024.05.14 16:26 Sufficientlyfun The Kibbe approach to Personal Color: A Crash Course

One of the lesser known and discussed components to David Kibbe’s approach to developing an authentic personal style is his color system.
What I think is quite unique about his approach is that it is rooted in color theory. I know that sounds kind of obvious… aren’t all personal color systems rooted in color theory? Not quite in the same way, no.
To go back to the absolute basics of color theory we start with the foundational concept of Primary Colors; Red, Yellow and Blue. Where In color theory; Yellow is Warm, Blue is Cool and Red is Neutral.
Disclaimer: Yes! There’s such thing as a Warm Blue or a Cool Yellow. David gives every season their own version of Yellow and Blue. However, we’re referencing a *pure** version of these colors - not a blend.*
So when we say “cool toned” this means the colors have a blue base since blue is cool. The same can be said for the concept of “warm toned” which means the colors have a yellow base since yellow is warm.
Now, nobody’s skin tone is literally yellow (we’re not lemons) or literally blue (we are not lizards). We are a complex blend of pigments that create a unique mix of tones within our skin, hair and eyes. What we’re looking to determine with our personal coloring here is wether we have a blue (cool) or golden (warm) undertone. With our hair and eyes providing extra clues but our undertone being the most important factor to consider.
Before we launch into the **Metamorphosis excerpt on David’s approach to personal color, I would like to pause and remind us all, that, as with all things Kibbe, it bares reminding that it is essential we leave all prior ideas on colouring aside and approach this process with a sense of playful exploration and curiosity. Our personal coloring just as our Kibbe ID is part of what makes us uniquely beautiful. So it’s not about there being a “correct” or “incorrect” answer. It’s about celebrating what is innate to us.*

Discovering the magic of your coloring

So much has been written in recent years about your coloring and "having your colors done" that I simply can't take you through this journey without a brief detour in this often confusing area.
As a firm believer in the beauty of our natural coloring, I've always felt that it should be enhanced and prized as one of our greatest gifts from Nature. Since I could be described as one of the pioneers of the modern color movement, I've worked long and hard to educate the public about the possibilities and systems that exist to make working with your coloring easy, clear, exciting, and most of all, fun!
In the past few years, I've watched many variations spring up on the basic theme of personal color analysis. As in all extremely popular fields, some of the "new" variations are simply gimmicks de- signed to cash in on the latest fad, while others bear at least some validity.
For my money, however, the basic system of the seasonal color theory originally developed by Johannes Itten of the Bauhaus School is still far and away the most effective.
This theory divides your coloring into four basic categories named after the seasons, based on two parts of your genetic makeup: (1) the undertone of your skin, which is blue or golden and functions as the "base" of your coloring; and (2) the in- tensity of your coloring, which has to do with the type of "contrast" between your hair. skin, and eyes.
Simply put, your "season" is a general description of the type of coloring you inherited and the palette of colors that will enhance it. Each "season" represents a family of colors that consists of over two million shades within the palette. Here's a brief description of each:

Winter

Blue undertone to the skin. High-contrast coloring (distinct difference between the hair, skin, eyes).
Palette: Cool, clear colors. Blue-based shades with sharp intensity. A jewel-toned palette ranging from vivid colors to very pale, icy shades.
Person: The hair is usually dark (a solid color as opposed to visibly highlighted) with an ash base, and the skin and eyes are quite clear.
Celebrities: Elizabeth Taylor, Cher, Diahann Carroll, Connie Chung.

Summer

Blue undertone to the skin. Blended contrast (the hair, skin, eyes tend to blend together).
Palette: Cool, muted colors. Blue- based shades with a saturated intensity. A dusty palette ranging from pastels to very deep shades.
Person: The hair is usually medium dark to medium light (a dense color with a very subtle highlight) with an ash base, and the skin tone is saturated while the eyes are softly muted.
Celebrities: Grace Kelly, Queen Elizabeth, Jane Fonda.

Autumn

Golden undertone to the skin. Contrast is medium to high, but characterized by richness.
Palette: Warm, intense colors. Yellow based shades with a heavy saturation of richness. A fiery palette ranging from very vivid, hot shades to a few softly muted neutrals.
Person: The hair is usually a richly highlighted shade with a red base, ranging from very deep chestnut to fiery auburn to a very deep honey. The skin tone is rich and saturated (ranging from very pale to very deep) and the eyes are a mixture of marbelized color.
Celebrities: Natalie Wood, Ann-Margret, Diane Keaton, Katharine Hepburn, Shari Bela- fonte-Harper.

Spring

Golden undertone to the skin. Contrast is delicate, but sharp.
Palette: Warm and clear colors. Yellow based shades with a light, bright intensity. A vibrant pal ette ranging from very fresh, vivid shades to a few clear pales.
Person: The hair is usually a medium dense shade (with a subtle natural highlight) and a golden or red base, ranging from medium golden brown to strawberry to golden blond. The skin tone is clear and delicate, and the eyes are crisp.
Celebrities; Shirley MacLaine, Sissy Spacek, Vanessa Williams, Arlene Dahl, Eva Gabor.

Draping the Seasons

Question: How can I determine my "season"? Can I tell by just looking at myself in the mir ror? Can I tell by looking at the underside of my wrists?
Not really. The best way to objectively determine your season is with the help of three or four friends. To correctly determine your season, you've got to first determine both the undertone of your skin (blue or golden), and then the type of contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes. The only way to accurately do this is by a process called "draping," whereby you drape selected shades of fabric under your chin and compare the color of the fabric to the colors in your face. You cannot determine your undertone by simply looking at your wrist because you are merely viewing the "shade" of your skin tone, as opposed to the undertone or base coloration.
In the draping process, you discover your skin's undertone by an indirect method. The aim is to enhance the undertone of your skin by using a complementary base color from the selected fabric.
Here's how to do this: With a group of three or four friends, assemble the following large swaths of fabric:

Four shades of green:

a) a blue-based emerald green (clear and vivid)
b) a blue-based sen green (soft and dusty)
c) a yellow-based mossy green (rich and in- tense)
d) a yellow-based bright chartreuse (light and clear)

Four shades of red:

a) a blue-based scarlet (clear and vivid)
b) a blue-based dusty raspberry (soft and muted)
c) a yellow-based tomato (rich and intense)
d) a yellow-based bright poppy (light and clear)

Four shades of blue:

a) a blue-based royal (clear and vivid)
b) a blue-based cornflower (soft and dusty)
c) a yellow-based teal (rich and intense)
d) a yellow-based bright aqua (light and clear)

Four shades of pink:

a) a blue-based fuchsia (vivid and clear)
b) a blue-based dusty rose (soft and muted)
c) a yellow-based salmon (rich and intense)
d) a yellow-based bright coral (light and bright)
Now drape each other in these colors, following the order in which they're listed. As you're watching this process, be sure to focus on the person's face, not the color. (Remember, you're seeking to discover which color brings the person out, not sim- ply the color you like best.)
In the right shade, you'll watch the person's skin tone become smooth and clear; shadows will seem to miraculously disappear!
In the wrong shades, the color will reflect onto the person's face; you'll notice the color, not the person.
Have your friends vote on what they're seeing. You'll nearly always find the consensus of others to be correct. (Your own opinion may be somewhat prejudiced by color preferences and the thought of having to change your wardrobe!)
If the consensus is that the colors of group a tested best on you consistently, you are a "Winter." If the consensus is toward group b, you are a "Summer." If the consensus is toward group c, you are an "Autumn"; and if the consensus is toward group d, then you are a "Spring."
NOTE: It's very important to perform this draping ceremony in natural light, so be sure you work near a large window with good sun exposure. Also, if your hair has been artificially colored, or has any chemical processing on it such as perms or waves, be sure to cover it with a white turban or bandanna. This will prevent your altered haircolor from throwing any shadows on your face, which could result in a misanalysis. This is crucial in determining your season, so don't forgo it in the name of vanity! Since the skin tone is a much subtler color than your hair, it's very easy to simply match the shades of fabric to the hair, rather than to the complexion. Also, be sure you remove all traces of makeup before you begin!

Questions & Answers

Q. Can I be a mixture of seasons!
A. No, you cannot. It's genetically impossible! Each "season" refers to a specific type of coloring, of which there are only four. For example, you cannot have a mixture of a golden and a blue undertone. Since the undertone functions as the base of your skin tone, it determines whether the shade of skin you have is either warm or cool. A color can only have one base, whether it's skin color, haircolor, fabric, a cosmetic shade, or even the paint on your wall!
The basic law of abstract color theory states that the base of a color determines its shade. For example, a burgundy red has a blue base. It is this blue base that actually causes the shade to be burgundy instead of some other shade of red, say tomato red or rust. Likewise, a mossy green is caused by a yellow base, while an emerald green is emerald because its base is blue! Your skin tone is exactly the same. An olive skin is always caused by a blue undertone. That's why it's olive and not a tawny beige (which is caused by a golden undertone). On the other hand, an ivory skin tone has a golden base, which is what makes it ivory instead of porcelain (which is caused by a blue undertone). There isn't a single individual-dead, alive. or yet to be born who possesses a mixture of undertones. It simply can not happen!
Q. What about "intensity"? Can I be a mixture of the "cools" (WinteSummer) or the "warms" (Autumn/Spring)!
A. No, you cannot. As with the undertone, you have one type of intensity to your coloring. High contrast coloring needs clear shades to enhance and bring it out effectively. Blended coloring needs a saturation of color to allow the subtlety of your coloring to show through gracefully. Mixing the clear colors with the dusty tones only negates your particular type of coloring.
Moreover, the palettes themselves simply don't mix effectively when you translate them into clothing and cosmetics. If you were to try to create color combinations of the cool Winter and Summer palettes, for example, you would never be able to effectively combine the jewel tones of Winter with the elegantly dusty shades of Summer. Since the palettes are of opposing intensities, the shades themselves are not at all complementary. Any resulting outfits of clothing would simply be a hodgepodge of mismatched colors!
Even more disasterous would be an attempt to mix the tones in cosmetics. For a makeup to be successful, you absolutely must keep all the colors on your face in one family of color, both in terms of the base and the intensity. Mixing them is akin to wearing a shocking pink blouse with a bright orange lipstick! While the result might not always be this glaring, opposite color families do not blend together!
Q. But I've had my colors done "professionally," and I was told I'm a mixture. Why would that have happened?
A. Basically, that means one of two things. Either you were analyzed incorrectly, which is, unfortunately, becoming quite common because of improper training and a lack of experience among color consultants, or it's simply a question of semantics.
Frequently, in an effort to delineate among the specific shades that you can actually wear effectively (be cause of the variations in individual skin tone, hair, and eye colors that exist within a season), color consult ants have attempted to make your palette as specific to you as possible. This sometimes manifests in your being labeled a mixture of seasons or having a "subseason." While this is technically incorrect, since the colors within the seasonal palettes do not actually blend with the other palettes, the result is usually a way of defining the range of shades within your season that appear most exciting on you.
From my experience, based on analyzing thousands of clients over a number of years, I simply find it too inaccurate and confusing to try to suggest to my clients that they "mix" the palettes. It's not helpful in a practical sense, for it doesn't actually add any colors that they can effectively work with in clothing, cosmetics, or haircolor. And, since it's technically incorrect, as I previously stated, I find that the clients who come to our salon with a "mixture" of colors nearly always have either a diluted appearance, in terms of focus, or they have a lot of mistakes hanging in their closets! Can my "contrast" change with age?
Q. What about as my hair turns gray? Does this change my season?
A. No, your season never changes with age, or anything else! As your hair begins to gray, Nature is not only changing your haircolor, but is also changing your skin tone and eyes at the same time. The balance among these three elements always remains the same. For example, if you're a mature Vivid Winter, like actress Bea Arthur, the balance among your haiskin/eyes is best described as high contrast. You have a vivid haircolor, a fair skin, and an intense eye color. True, your haircolor is not the same as when you were twenty years old, when it was probably a deep brunette, but you've maintained the high contrast coloring you were born with. As your hair began to gray, it didn't turn a dull or mousy shade of gray, but rather went a brilliant silver, didn't it? Your skin and eyes have actually gotten lighter at the same time, even though this difference is probably imperceptible to you. Do yone that your high contrast has not changed at all! You still have a vivid haircolor, a fair skin, and an in- ten eye color. Your balance has remained the same! You are still a Vivid Winter, and the colors that focus your specific coloring are still cool and clear!
Whatever your season, Nature created your haiskin/eyes as a unit. They always change together, and the balance among them never changes That's why your season never changes!
Q. Does my season have anything to do with style? For example, I read somewhere that Winters should stick to solids and geometrics, while Autumns are very good in tweeds and textures.
A. Not in the least! Having your colors done has absolutely nothing to do with anything other than determining what your skin tone is and which palette of colors to work with to enhance it. It tells you nothing more specific than the range of colors to use. Your specific clothing choices (including fabrics and textures, as well as shapes and lines), makeup shades, and haircolor range all come from developing your personal style through discovering your Image Identity.
For example, Autumns are frequently told to concentrate on use of textures in their wardrobe. Yet Ann-Margret is a Fiery Autumn, but as a Theatrical Romantic, I'd much rather see her in silks, satins, angora, and se quins than rough textures or tweeds any day of the year!
Having your colors done can be a wonderful and exciting addition to your life, and I highly recommend it when it's properly executed. Just be careful not to give it more importance than it's worth. Your coloring is only one part of you - it's worthy of being carefully looked at, but only within the contest of your total look.
Now I’m sure for those of us who are more visual the written descriptions of these colors can be ultra confusing! Unfortunately we can not share the seasonal palettes David has created. However, the palettes as well as a wealth of additional information on the sub seasons, additional celebrities as well as the three make up palettes for each season etc. can be accessed within the Four Season Freedom Facebook Group.
My personal tip is to get a good grasp on basic color theory by understanding what blue based vs yellow based colors look like. A really creative and explorative way to approach this is by getting some paints out and mixing the tones to see how blue (cool) with added yellow (warm) transforms into a warm blue. (Please ensure you use a true Yellow, a true Blue, a true Red, a true Black and a true White).
The goal of the system isn’t to just wear the colors David has in his seasonal palettes - it’s to use these as a jumping off point. So, that you can then take the concept of your coloring and have the ability to intuitively identify colors that harmonise with you rather than pull out a palette on your phone every time you go clothes or make up shopping!
Each season can be quickly understood by what it’s characteristics evoke:

Winter (Cool) is Jewel

Spring (Warm) is Vibrant

Summer (Cool) is Lush

Autumn (Warm) is Fiery

A quick disclaimer!! No season gets boring muted colors. Everyone gets beautifully saturated colors! You won’t see the sad, drab and dull tones often seen in other seasonal color systems here! For example Summer is Lush in tone not muted and Autumn is fiery in tone, again not muted In any sense if the word.

Let’s talk about the defining characteristics tied to certain seasons

I want to preface this part, by reminding us all that much like our Kibbe ID, we are born with the innate characteristics we have ; we are who we are meant to be! And so it’s never a case of being relegated to certain IDs or color seasons based on certain characteristics. But, instead we are embarking on the journey to discover what has always been there with the objective of achieving harmony with ourselves and in doing so bringing out our unique beauty.
Brown eyes Brown eyes are a feature of high contrast coloring and therefore will always be a high contrast season; Autumn or Winter.
Naturally Ginger / Red hair Ginger / Red hair is a warm color (a mix of a golden base with added red) and therefore will always be a warm season; Spring or Autumn.
An Olive undertone Olive is always caused by a blue undertone, therefore it will always be Winter.
Naturally Blonde hair Blonde hair can be any season except for Winter which requires a high level of contrast between the features; Skin/HaiEyes.
The Color Black Black is considered a cool tone that casts a shade on its surrounds, due to its depth of contrast is only given to Winters as with Winters it enhances the clarity of coloring whether-as with all other seasons it muddies their coloring.
The Color White White, on the other hand is universally given to all seasons as it is considered a neutral.

Mountain Valleys and Too much Tempura
Finally woke up after a long and restful sleep. I feel like myself again for the first time in ages. How have I been having poor sleep? Two? Three weeks? You'd think the biking would help me sleep. I feel much less sick at least. This morning I called my mom to see how she was doing and wish her a happy belated mother's Day. I'm not always up for a phone call but when I am it is nice. I think I've made a half dozen phone calls on the trip, for the most part I've only spoken at length to Bryce for the past two months.
Our exit was slowed from me being a mess the night before and leaving a pile of stuff scattered on the floor as well as some elderly folks waylaying us for stories and pictures with them. They bought us some chocolates from the hotel to take with us and insisted we all get good photos. The ladies said the two of us were big big people. I guess that makes sense when you've shrunk in the wash.
I didn't have a lot of pep so we rode up the mountain road rather slowly. We don't need to make crazy time today so I didn't feel like moving fast. The sun was hot but the tall trees in the area gave us shade sometimes, which was nice. The villages we went through were even more desolate than the one we stayed in, with the large majority looking shuttered and not a single business was open when we rode through. We were getting hungry and it seemed like every few buildings we saw a sign for soba noodles, but alas, no soba noodles. Eventually we finally found an open restaurant, a very lovely and tidy place with a few customers serving locally made soba with tempura made from locally grown veggies and mushrooms. It was all fantastic, and a lot. We couldn't finish it all! A patron complimented me on the Japanese I was using, saying it was very good.
The compliment struck me, as I was using Japanese to converse, but I wrote less than a week ago that I wasn't using my Japanese. The difference being that I don't feel like crap today, I guess. Such is living with BPD, the intense polarization of thought that must be resisted lest you form a totally incorrect worldview based on a gut feel that has more to do with what you ate than who you are as a person. It all gets mixed up and I land up having totally convincing thoughts that are simply wrong. What a pain.
Somewhat shortly after lunch, more pains showed up as the consequences of eating a pound of deep fried veggies came to call. Good grief. Getting the runs while biking or really any exercise is rough. Not only do you need to find a bathroom quickly, but the upset stomach and dehydration really cause problems. I struggled for the rest of the day, this not being a great compliment to the roughness of the day before. Luckily we were at the top of the mountain pass by this point and on our way down.
The other side was a gentle slope downwards and easy on the body. With just a little effort we could keep moving at a steady pace, bathroom breaks notwithstanding. The mountain valley was gorgeous, steep slopes covered in thick forest above deep rivers, the road passing high above via tall bridges. Every so often we came across a hydroelectric dam. Electricity, soba, and wasabi seem to be the three things made in this region. I wondered with so little flat land, what brought people to the area in the first place?
I needed another break after a few hours and guided us to a tourist spot that seemed nice enough on Google. Down the hill and to the river we went, passing a number of knicknack shops that exist beside the trap. One had a workshop in it, this shop had cute little wooden mushroom figures as well as wooden dolls that look like nesting dolls but do not nest. We bought nothing, instead walking down to the suspension bridge across the river. The river gorge we walked over had towering pillars of eroded sedementary rock showing previous flood surges. The top ones appeared to be 30m or more above our heads, an unimaginable height and based on the shops just above where we were, one that was not possible anymore. Talk about trusting your civil engineers! The little bridge led across the river to a flight of steep and irregular steps to a shrine nestled in a cave. The shrine wasn't flashy, but it was probably extremely old. The bridge looked new, however. We didn't stay long to find much else out.
Climbing back up to our bikes, I started to feel nauseated and we decided to take a longer break and drink a bunch of water and sports drinks. It helped a bit. We got back to riding, the gorge turning into a wider and lovely valley around minamiazu, then a series of long tunnels, before breaking out into the very wide valley where aizuwakamatsu lives. We could see mount Bandai ahead and to the right, a brown peak above green mountains. A lovely valley and a perfect evening, the sun darkening to orange as it begun it's descent above mount asahi to the northwest. Riding a very nice bike path that followed the river, we easily found a campsite under a bridge, then went for dinner. After a lackluster sushi dinner that we both found just okay, we decided that neither of us had and energy left and we should just set up camp and get cozy. We got some snacks for extra calories and headed over.
I feel like I'm short stacking on details today, but my mind was pretty distracted with feeling sick and some other thoughts not appropriate for a public forum. Oh well. There's always more time to muse tomorrow.

2024.05.14 15:39 TechnoTrixie Foods I tried that seemed safe to me.

Just wanted to share some foods that I tried and it didn't trigger anything (for my context):
My diagnosis - Mild chronic gastritis characterized by erosions and erythema in the antrum. Cause is likely due to NSAIDS use. Happening since December 2023, but symtoms started showing April 2024.
Current medications - Esomeprazole 20 mg (since 1.5 months), Sucralfate suspension 4 times a day (Have been taking for 2 weeks now)
Background - South Asian foreigner living in America. My regular diet consists of extremely spicy, hot food with loads of spices. Heavily dependent on DoorDash as I am a student and almost never have time to cook and when I cook, it takes several hours as I try to cook dishes from my country's cuisine. So, my stomach is pretty well adjusted to extreme spice and hotness.
Now, I have no burning pain at all and I feel fine. Except sometimes there is a mild ache that happens with or without eating but it's highly tolerable.
At first, I had bland diet, eating sushi, mixed rice with chicken and shrimp, shrimp and white rice, lettuce, cucumbers, organic juices mixed with celery, kale, banana, spinach. Fruit bowls (except citrus). Salmon.
Now that the pain has reduced, started introducing Chipotle bowl (rice, beans, corn, guacamole, lettuce, chicken, queso blanco), Chinese food (chicken with cashewnut, white rice, string beans).
I feel like my stomach was so well adjusted to all the spicy junk I have been eating ever since I was born that these bland foods are like blessings to my stomach lol. I still wont eat anything spicy. Here's to hoping I heal fully very soon!

2024.05.14 15:30 nonameslob0605 Review of Resource Central and DUG veggie kits

Review of Resource Central and DUG veggie kits
I see a lot of questions about where to get starter plants not from a big box store and wanted to share my experience with two great resources. It's too late for this year, but keep it on the radar for next year!
Resource Central - This is my second year ordering the "Best of Summer Veggie Garden" kit from Resource Central. I noticed it as an option in the store last year when ordering some perennials and found it to be a really great value as someone who hasn't had the time to grow warm weather crops from seeds (peppers and tomatoes especially). It comes with "32" starter plants for $90, averaging less than $3 per plant (even less when you factor in that quite a few had more than one plant in each pot, such as the chives and onions). The varieties were selected based on their ability to thrive in our hot Colorado sun. I believe the plant selection is the same as last year.
Obviously I liked it enough to buy it again! The tomato varieties all did really well for me and my surprise favorite was the lunchbox peppers - basically miniature bell peppers that actually do really well in our climate (I've never successfully grown a regular bell pepper here). The ordering and pickup process is really easy, too. I would say one downside is the timing - since it includes hardy plants and tender plants, some things end up getting planted a little later than is ideal and others you'll have to keep in pots for a few weeks before it is warm enough to plant. But taking care of pepper plants for 3 weeks instead of 3-4 months is totally worth it. Two thumbs up.
Denver Urban Gardens Grow a Garden - This was my first year ordering from DUG. I got the Grow a Garden Salsa Kit, which is a mix of seedlings and seeds. I've been wanting to try growing Amish Paste tomatoes which is what reeled me in, but also excited to try a different onion variety. For 12 seedlings and 4 seed packets, the value is set at $60 and they offer a sliding scale, allowing participants to choose what they pay. I love that this program is increasing access to gardening, and I can directly support that by making a donation on top of the cost of my kit. I will say the quality of the plants isn't as strong as Resource Central. The stems on my tomatoes and tomatillos are very weak. I already potted them into a larger pot and planted as deeply as I could, so I'm hoping that helps. The peppers, flowers, and onions all seem like they will be just fine. Overall opinion on the plants TBD but two thumbs up for an great community program that increases access to gardening!

2024.05.14 15:18 ManILoveMacaroni Bath time tips? *DRAMATIC*

So, I made the mistake of not training our boy, Ozzie, bathtime routine when he was a puppy. He's had baths, but only because he NEEDED them and he was too small to do anything about it. (Deep bathtub)
Now, despite being well brushed and having his nails clipped, he is a DUSTY boy. So dusty that it falls off him when I pat his fur. This is not good. He cannot be on the couch like this. He loves the couch and is already highly emotional. He would whine if our elderly chihuahua was allowed up and not him, it'd simply break his little heart.
Currently? He absolutely HATES water, even when it looks like it simply falls off his coat. I think it's mostly the sound thats scaring him, because on his own terms? He's fine with just SLEEPING out in the rain and snow right next to his doggy door that he could go in at any time he would wish.
It's not that I haven't TRIED to get him in the bath. But he's a little bit more muscular than most shepherds because of the fact he's mixed. His body is a rectangle with muscles at his chest, trained especially by my father who, as a grown nearly 6 foot man, wrestles with him regularly.
However, none of us can lift him. Especially not my 5'1 100lb ass. Brute force is a no-go. And, because my dad also trained him that being pushed, snacked in the face, and corralled in anyway is just another form of rough-housing fun-play, trying to pick him up or pull him in there will likely register as a game. (he's a dad, so he thought that if an intruder got in and tried to hit him, it wouldn't be a problem if he absolutely loved it and thought of it as play! And he absolutely loves trying to tackle my dad, and gets kinda disappointed when he's too gentle, so half points?)
He is, however, EXTREMELY food motivated, and I was able to use a pot of leftover macaroni and cheese (he ran out of his favorite treats) to get him to sit and stay in the bathtub, but as he showed down on his treat that I commanded him to eat slowly, I got too hasty, and turned on the water to fill my cup. I have never seen him so conflicted. He looked at the pot, looked back, looked at the pot and jumped out with such force that I knew that if he could speak, he would be giving me a harsh "fuck you!" For tricking him.
Now my dog is dirty, AND so is my bathtub.
The only alternative i can think of is to wait for the hot summer months where he's panting to try and hose-bath him. But that would be quite a few days where he isn't allowed on the couch, and would only be a bandaid and not a real solution.
So, as my family is out of town and I am 1v1 with the sweetest, most food-loving dummy ever, I would love some tips, tricks, and advice! How did you train your buddies? Did you use force? Was it a multiple day-training battle?
Things I won't try (because there's always that one guy) •mean words in a mean tone of voice (he's sensitive) (and I mean ACTUAL mean words, not command-tone) •showing him 'whose boss' (Not a solution) •picking him up •scaring him! I want to try and make bathtime register as fun, the same way my dad did the same for physical stuff. He's a big, sensitive lover, and I don't want his stinkiness to end up putting a bar in our relationship. He's a good boy, especially for a 1yo!

2024.05.14 15:08 ivrytwr3 Fiction, mainstream, international chase, codes and conspiracy

I hope i'm not mixing up books here and i'm thinking this is a mainstream book? (i don't tend to read obscure titles).
At the start a prostitute is crushed to death under the weight of a fat guy in a hotel room - the guy had been stealth killed (poison?)
Later in the book, after a mammoth chase the hero and a woman counterpart arrange to meet a friendly in a coffee shop. Our hero talks about how good the hot chocolate tastes after such a chase and the 'friendly' starts suggesting things about going to his car, getting into his car etc. They think it's a good idea and are powerless to resist, it turns out they have been drugged (GHB?)
It may have something to do with sleeper agents who are activated by a code word? I THINK the word is 'totenkopf'. There is certainly a word they are trying to discover the meaning of.
It's the name of the book and the activation word that has given me a brain worm!

2024.05.14 14:19 Kaitron5000 I'm craving all my husband's favorites, that I used to hate

I find it odd and can't help but feel like it has to do with growing this man's DNA inside of me.
I never liked Reese's cups. My hubs is obsessed with anything Reese's, especially the ones with caramel. I'm constantly craving peanut butter with chocolate and caramel.
I absolutely despise hot Cheetos and Doritos. Now I can't stop eating the flaming hot munchies mix.
The same with fruit flavored soda, any kind of bread and potatoes.
I ate really clean before getting pregnant and now all I want is junk. I've still been eating really healthy and have had my own cravings for fruit nonstop, but I find it so silly that most of the stuff I crave that is out of the norm are his favorite foods. Foods that he hasn't even been eating because he is on a diet. So he has been watching me eat all his favs with a side eye lol. Is anyone else experiencing this?
