MS-ISAC CYBERSECURITY ADVISORY MS-ISAC ADVISORY NUMBER: 2024-051
DATE(S) ISSUED: 05/13/2024
SUBJECT: Multiple Vulnerabilities in Apple Products Could Allow for Arbitrary Code Execution
OVERVIEW: Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in Apple products, the most severe of which could allow for arbitrary code execution. Successful exploitation of the most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow for arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged on user. Depending on the privileges associated with the user, an attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than those who operate with administrative user rights.
THREAT INTELLEGENCE: Apple is aware of a report that CVE-2024-23296 may have been exploited in the wild.
SYSTEMS AFFECTED: - Versions prior to macOS Sonoma 14.5
- Versions prior to macOS Ventura 13.6.7
- Versions prior to macOS Monterey 12.7.5
- Versions prior to watchOS 10.5
- Versions prior to tvOS 17.5
- Versions prior to iOS 16.7.8 and iPadOS 16.7.8
- Versions prior to iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5
RISK: Government: - Large and medium government entities: High
- Small government entities: Medium
Businesses: - Large and medium business entities: High
- Small business entities: Medium
Home users: Low TECHNICAL SUMMARY: Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in Apple products, the most severe of which could allow for arbitrary code execution. Details of the vulnerabilities are as follows:
Tactic:
Execution (TA0002): Technique:
Exploitation for Client Execution (T1203): - Processing a file may lead to unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution (CVE-2024-27829)
- An attacker may be able to cause unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution (CVE-2024-27818)
- An app may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges (CVE-2024-27804, CVE-2024-27842)
- An attacker with arbitrary kernel read and write capability may be able to bypass kernel memory protections. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited. (CVE-2024-23296)
- An attacker may be able to elevate privileges (CVE-2024-27796, CVE-2024-27798)
- An attacker may be able to access user data (CVE-2024-27816)
Additional lower severity vulnerabilities include:
- An attacker with knowledge of a standard user's credentials can unlock another standard user's locked screen on the same Mac (CVE-2023-42861)
- An app may be able to access protected user data (CVE-2023-42893)
- A malicious application may be able to access Find My data (CVE-2024-23229)
- An app may be able to read arbitrary files (CVE-2024-23236)
- An app may be able to access user-sensitive data (CVE-2024-27789)
- An app may be able to elevate privileges (CVE-2024-27824, CVE-2024-27843)
- An app may be able to read sensitive location information (CVE-2024-27810)
- An app may be able to execute arbitrary code out of its sandbox or with certain elevated privileges (CVE-2024-27813)
- A shortcut may output sensitive user data without consent (CVE-2024-27821)
- An app may be able to gain root privileges (CVE-2024-27822)
- An app may be able to bypass certain Privacy preferences (CVE-2024-27825, CVE-2024-27847)
- An app may be able to read arbitrary files (CVE-2024-27827)
- An attacker with arbitrary read and write capability may be able to bypass Pointer Authentication (CVE-2024-27834)
- An attacker with physical access to an iOS device may be able to access notes from the lock screen (CVE-2024-27835)
- A local attacker may gain access to Keychain items (CVE-2024-27837)
- A malicious application may be able to determine a user's current location (CVE-2024-27839)
- An app may be able to disclose kernel memory (CVE-2024-27841)
- A maliciously crafted webpage may be able to distribute a script that tracks users on other webpages (CVE-2024-27852)
RECOMMENDATIONS: We recommend the following actions be taken:
- Apply the stable channel update provided by Apple to vulnerable systems immediately after appropriate testing. (M1051: Update Software)
- Safeguard 7.1 : Establish and Maintain a Vulnerability Management Process: Establish and maintain a documented vulnerability management process for enterprise assets. Review and update documentation annually, or when significant enterprise changes occur that could impact this Safeguard.
- Safeguard 7.2 : Establish and Maintain a Remediation Process: Establish and maintain a risk-based remediation strategy documented in a remediation process, with monthly, or more frequent, reviews.
- Safeguard 7.6 : Perform Automated Vulnerability Scans of Externally-Exposed Enterprise Assets: Perform automated vulnerability scans of externally-exposed enterprise assets using a SCAP-compliant vulnerability scanning tool. Perform scans on a monthly, or more frequent, basis.
- Safeguard 7.7 : Remediate Detected Vulnerabilities: Remediate detected vulnerabilities in software through processes and tooling on a monthly, or more frequent, basis, based on the remediation process.
- Safeguard 16.13 Conduct Application Penetration Testing: Conduct application penetration testing. For critical applications, authenticated penetration testing is better suited to finding business logic vulnerabilities than code scanning and automated security testing. Penetration testing relies on the skill of the tester to manually manipulate an application as an authenticated and unauthenticated user.
- Safeguard 18.1 : Establish and Maintain a Penetration Testing Program: Establish and maintain a penetration testing program appropriate to the size, complexity, and maturity of the enterprise. Penetration testing program characteristics include scope, such as network, web application, Application Programming Interface (API), hosted services, and physical premise controls; frequency; limitations, such as acceptable hours, and excluded attack types; point of contact information; remediation, such as how findings will be routed internally; and retrospective requirements.
- Safeguard 18.2 : Perform Periodic External Penetration Tests: Perform periodic external penetration tests based on program requirements, no less than annually. External penetration testing must include enterprise and environmental reconnaissance to detect exploitable information. Penetration testing requires specialized skills and experience and must be conducted through a qualified party. The testing may be clear box or opaque box.

2024.05.14 21:32 _AmethystDeceiver_ Is a Macbook Pro M3 16GB/512SSD enough for Motion Design?
I sold an Asus Machina (16gb RAM/GeForce 3050) and am considering buying a Macbook, since I definetly had enough of Windows, it is buggy and messy to work with Adobe & coding.
I am trully considering a mac machine, the new regular M3 with 16GB RAM and 512SSD. My wife uses a MacAir 8GB all day long with Figma/Photoshop and Illustrator a loves it/has no problem.
I do use a lot of Adobe (Ps/Ai/Id/Pp/An/Ae), Figma, Notion and do heavy Front-end and WordPress development. I also want to start using Ableton Live 11 and Blender to do some animation and packshots. Would this mac be enough to work with all those apps for the coming years on? I need something with good battery life and easy to carry, I do have other Apple ecosystem stuff I use a lot (iPhone, use iCloud, iPad for drawing, Apple Watch).
Unfortunately, this config is the most I can pay (macs are really expensive where I live); would this trully be productive to me? I mean to do a lot of lotties and edit videos with heavy effects.

2024.05.14 21:17 OkChard9101 Flutter at Google I/O 2024
Today marks the release of Flutter 3.22, the main highlight of which is stable support for compiling Flutter web apps to WebAssembly. By comparison to the previous JavaScript implementation, an example Flutter app compiled to WebAssembly saw between 2x and 3x better performance.
Meanwhile, this Flutter update comes bundled with Dart 3.4. Fans of Dart will be pleased to find the beginnings of “macros” for the programming language, a built-in way to quickly generate code without leaving your favorite editor. While there’s a lot of work still to be done before macros are ready for developers, Dart 3.4 brings the first example of a macro, “JsonCodable.” This helps make it easier to use JSON data with your Dart/Flutter app.

2024.05.14 21:16 Illicitline45 Corrupt windows files and how to repair them
So I have run sfc/scannow on a machine with a freshly installed copy of windows and lo-and-behold I got aroud 1800 error messages (after filtering them with a python script from a sfcdetails.txt file). I'm certain sfc/scannow didn't repair them (it in fact said it couldn't). So how f*ed am I? Below is a list of the filtered error messages and the files/modules they are referring to (I deleted all redundant references and been left with around 250 files/modules). I don't know what "Cannot verify component files" means, is it due to how I ran the command on cmd promt(I was in admin mode)?
From what I could gather from this, .NET framework is gone, but I already figured as much and tried to install a windows tool to repair (although that didn't seem to do anything). Is there a way to repair these files without reinstalling windows? Is there even a need to repair them if I was able to install programms just fine on the pc?

2024.05.14 21:11 SteveCOnline Chase bank's one-time authentication codes are not random
Chase's two-factor authentication process for logging into their website works by sending what is supposed to be a random (i.e. unpredictable) code to your phone. The trouble is, the code that they send is not random. Being a responsible citizen I contacted the 'JPMC Responsible Disclosure' department to let them know that I had found a bug in the code that generates these codes, making them (to some degree at least predictable). The 'JPMC Responsible Disclosure' department, however, were not interested. To avoid giving away too much information I won't publicly divulge the full details of what can be predicted, but I bet that if you're sent such an authorization code, it starts with "4". I'm hoping that this post might make Chase realize that bugs in code which affect security should be taken seriously.

2024.05.14 20:50 alexanderwarg The Ultimate To-Do List Test
| When planning travels, many things are involved. You want to know where to go, when to do things, and what is most important. There will probably be a few PDF tickets and maybe a photo or a link to some website. For most people, it would also be a good idea to keep track of expenditures. All of this must be easy to find while in a new, often quite stressful environment. Therefore, if a to-do app can manage traveling, it can most likely also manage weekly groceries, school work, or other projects, whether personal or for work. That is why during the development of Gört, traveling was used as an example case to ensure that most aspects of what a to-do app should be able to do were covered. Traveling is thus the ultimate test of a to-do list app. The unique aspects that separate Gört from other to-do apps include the ability to add locations to tasks, viewable together on a map. This is not just for location-based reminders but as a new way of viewing your tasks. Additionally, just like finding all locations on a map, you can see all tasks with a priority together in a sorted list, all scheduled tasks on a timeline, and so on. This makes everything easy to find, as tasks are grouped and organized by attachment types. Although subjective to some extent, the layout provides a clear overview. For example, when you open a task, you will see all possible attachments in a list, which are easy to add with just a tap. Lastly, sharing a list is really easy. All you need to do is scan the other person's QR code or, if not in the same place, enter their email. The lists will sync in near real-time. I am currently studying at university in Sweden and have been making Gört as a side project during my studies. I thoroughly tested the app during my exchange semester in Seoul as well as a subsequent trip through Southeast Asia. The name comes from the Swedish words "gör" and "det", which translates to "do it". The app is now available on the App Store for iOS and Mac. If you have any thoughts on how it can be improved or need assistance with anything, I am happy to help. I hope you will like it! You cannot transition collapsing or expanding sections whose sizes are completely drvien by their content with "auto". As far as I have toyed, there are two solutions, setting width explicity (hell), and what I've done with finely controlling the animation with a hook.
The issue that arrises is apparent in this gif:
Sandbox - CodeSandbox Notice the animation skipping effect when I hover over other nodes quickly
I believe this has to do with the time it takes the animation to complete (.3s) and what can happen inbetween then that causes the cancelling. I have toyed around with timeouts on hovers and animation to no avail. Perhaps that is the correct way to approach, but I havent got the combination right. Maybe an interval can be triggered somewhere to wait for an animation to finish? Please help.

2024.05.14 20:42 Long-Cat7477 Troubleshooting - hope someone can help?
I'm fairly new to 3dprinting (maybe 4 months?) so a lot of this is complicated for me.
I have an ender 3v3 KE printer, rooted. I'm also working off a Mac for a computer. I'm not great with codes etc. My orcaslicer kept giving me an update notification for everything. I couldn't update it manually from orca, so I decided to restore to factory and start over again so I could get the updated versions of Klipper, fluidd, etc. This has been an ordeal so far.
I think I got everything set up again, after much aggravation. However I'm stuck at this point. In fluidd, I get this warning, and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Moonraker warnings found.
- [update_manager]: Failed to load extension Creality-Helper-Script: Invalid path for option `path` in section [update_manager Creality-Helper-Script]: Path `/usdata/helper-script` does not exist
- Unparsed config option 'origin: https://github.com/Guilouz/Creality-Helper-Script.git' detected in section [update_manager Creality-Helper-Script]. This may be an option no longer available or could be the result of a module that failed to load. In the future this will result in a startup error.
- Unparsed config option 'primary_branch: main' detected in section [update_manager Creality-Helper-Script]. This may be an option no longer available or could be the result of a module that failed to load. In the future this will result in a startup error.
- Unparsed config option 'managed_services: klipper' detected in section [update_manager Creality-Helper-Script]. This may be an option no longer available or could be the result of a module that failed to load. In the future this will result in a startup error.
Can anybody tell me how to fix this? I may have taken something out, but not sure what I took out or how to fix.

2024.05.14 20:41 mr_undeadpickle77 Why do all of the LLM's continue to generate outdated OpenAI api endpoint code?
I've been using Gemini Pro 1.5, OpenAI GPT 4o, and Claude 3 Opus and to this day they continue to generate incorrect outdated OpenAI api code. For example even after providing links to documentations, copy/pasting in the example code and even giving it my full script that uses the correct chat and embeddings api I still get this: openai.Embedding.create instead of this client.embeddings.create. And this openai.ChatCompletion.create instead of client.chat.completions.create.
I know what to look for now and how to make the necessary changes I just want to know why the newest models continue to give the incorrect code?

2024.05.14 20:36 Neither_Tomorrow_238 How do I use GPT-4o?
How do I use this? I have deleted and reinstalled the app and nothing. I am a free user from the UK. I asked ChatGPT how to use it and it says this:
As of my last update, GPT-4o isn't a known version. However, if you're referring to a hypothetical future version of a language model like me, here's a general guide on how to use such a tool:
- Input Prompt: Start by providing a clear and concise prompt or question that outlines what you want to achieve or inquire about. The more specific and detailed your prompt, the better the model can understand and respond accurately.
- Generate Response: Once you've entered your prompt, the model will generate a response based on its understanding of the input. This response can vary in length and complexity depending on the input and the capabilities of the model.
- Evaluate Response: Review the response generated by the model to determine if it meets your needs. Check for accuracy, relevance, and coherence. If necessary, you can provide feedback to help improve future responses.
- Iterate and Refine: If the initial response isn't satisfactory, you can refine your prompt or provide additional context to guide the model towards a better understanding. Repeat this process until you get the desired response.
- Explore Features: Explore any additional features or functionalities offered by the model, such as summarization, translation, creative writing, coding assistance, and more. Experiment with different prompts and tasks to fully utilize the capabilities of the model.
- Ethical Use: Remember to use the model responsibly and ethically. Avoid generating harmful or misleading content, and be mindful of the potential biases and limitations of AI technology.
If GPT-4o or a similar model becomes available in the future, it's likely to build upon the capabilities of existing models like me, offering improvements in performance, accuracy, and versatility.

2024.05.14 20:24 Ok-Leader-4275 Possible to copy a snippet to the clipboard as well as entering text?
I am new to espanso, I am trying to create something to help in a medical practice with repetitive typing. I have created a form with a couple drop down choices. It seems to be working for the most part, but occasionally in my EHR it will not add the text after filling out the form. I am wondering if there is a code I can add to make it also add what was generated to the clipboard too, so on the chance that it doesn't get entered we can just paste instead?
I am on Windows 11 EHR is in a Chrome Browser.
Thanks!

2024.05.14 20:17 Fox_9810 Display code colour highlighting in RMarkdown output
I'm writing a document on the prismatic package for a colleague. Within the package, you can generate a colour vector with
c("#648FFF", "#785EF0", "#DC267F") %>% colour()
This returns:
#648FFFFF #785EF0FF #DC267FFF
In the R terminal, each hex code is "highlighted" in the resepctive colour. Is there a way to get this to reproduce in a print out from an RMarkdown code chunk when you Knit the document? I found this article:
rmarkdown and terminal colors – R-Craft but I can't get it to work. The package crayon appears to have been depreciated in favour of cli which I can't find any resources explaining how to get what I want out of it.
Any help would be appreciated!

2024.05.14 20:09 TheExtirpater Is DSP my saving grace?
I am a mechanical engineering student currently doing an internship as a controls intern. Whilst doing my internship I have realised that whilst I do enjoy control systems all of the cutting edge work I was interested in is overkill in most systems and most control problems get solved by slapping on a PID or often just a PI controller and altering the gains till it works. I also didn't enjoy that all of the logic was created in simulink and then C code was generated to be compiled and flashed onto controllers.
The jist of this post is that I am looking for a field of work that involves maths and programming. I do enjoy working with embedded systems and writing C and C++ code also. If DSP is also similar to controls where the heavy mathematical work is pretty much non-existent and all the code is generated, then I would be interested in some other recommendations that, even if they don't involve embedded systems, involve some fun math and complex programming.

2024.05.14 19:58 THCrunkadelic "ERROR: Exception in ASGI application" while trying to move model after successful finetuning (AllTalk)
I have tried the finetuning 3 times, including re-installing the entire text-generation-webui, and the 3rd time even doing "run as administrator" in the powershell. It errors trying to move the model at the end, and spits out a long line of code I will post below, that begins with the error in my title, and ends with "TypeError: Type is not JSON serializable: WindowsPath". I also get a JSON error when I try to refresh any of the dropdowns, which is weird.
Every time I get the same thing happen. Preflight checklist is good to go. Steps 2, 3, and 4 of finetuning are successful. I can load the model, I can test the model, and it sounds 95% accurate. Then when I try to move the model (I've tried option A, B, and C, they all error the same), I get the below response:

2024.05.14 19:47 TheUrbanEnigma Steam Server help
I'm using the Steam Valheim Dedicated Server, and before update worked just fine. The world I'm trying to use on the server works just fine with Ashlands, but when trying to utilize the server I just get this in the Command Window (scroll all the way down once you've read a dozen or so shader warnings). I truly have no idea what to make of this, I don't know anything about coding. I figured out just enough to get the server running in the first place. No mods.
