About two years ago, I was in contact with a woman who wanted to write a book titled “Strong Daughters Of Bad Mothers”. She wanted to publicize both her own story and the stories of other women who were willing to share. So she made an online post and received quite a bit of backlash. Because of the term "Bad Mothers". The thread that developed was interesting, but also quite exhausting because of the obvious tunnel vision of some of the commenters. Rather than getting caught up in this useless discussion, I decided to write an article in support of her.
My mother died a few years ago, but being estranged from her years before her death, I know all the struggles someone goes through. I thought maybe, some of you might find my article helpful as well. Sorry, if the wording is a litttle off at times, I had to translate it for this sub. So here it goes:
MEASURABLE SUCCESS / FAILURE IN PARENTING?
So far I haven’t been blessed with the task of being a mother. From my own experience, I can only say what I wouldn’t ever want my child to have to deal with. But could I ever be competent enough to provide at least everything that seems important to me? Love and appreciation without expecting anything in return? The ability to love and care for themselves? Encouragement through weaknesses and promotion of strengths?
At what point does one become "bad" at parenting? Is there a scale? A scale that goes from “total neglect” = “terrible” to “raising a child to be a superhero” = “perfect”? ​​I hardly think so. And why is that? Because of human failure. There are no special categories for that. Though we feel most comfortable when we can put everything in its drawer and label it. But does that mean that once you reach a certain level of failure, you’re not allowed to call things by their name just because they’re not obviously "measurable"?
Imagine this: You trust your dentist to do a decent job, but on almost every visit they pull the wrong tooth or drill in the wrong place - would you say to yourself, "Well, maybe they haven’t had an easy life," or would you rather conclude that you chose a lousy dentist? Too trivial? Too far-fetched? After all, you can't compare a visit to the dentist to a family life, can you? Well, sometimes you can.
Let me further illustrate why the simple adjective "bad" should be removed from the taboo when it comes to parent-child relationships: Have you ever advised a friend/family membeacquaintance to distance themselves from someone? Because you realized that their relationship (developing or existing) clearly wasn’t doing them any good? Have you ever told someone: "This person is bad for you"? If so, did you try to think of a better word? Or did “bad” just roll off the tongue - because it was the truth?
Yes, some of you may be offended when we refer to ourselves as children of "bad" parents. How disrespectful. They gave us the gift of life - or they adopted us. Either way, a total no-go! Right? But maybe you should ask yourself WHY exactly it triggers you so much.
As the daughter of a bad mother, let me tell you this: People who have had difficult, perhaps even traumatic, childhoods are rarely interested in a "revenge" or "shaming" anyone. It's about finally being seen and heard. It's about no longer hiding our scars (physical and psychological). It’s about staying true to ourselves when others lecture us about "family values".
The level of respect and compassion that is undoubtedly given to BOTH bad and good parents is equally due to their children.
If something was "not good"... what was it? Open for improvement? Probably. Not quite ideal? Possibly. Mediocre? Perhaps. But these quibbles over words do not minimize the damage done. Especially when it was just that: BAD.
Awful. Horrible. Disastrous. Traumatizing.
We can add whatever suits our case. Whatever suits OUR FEELINGS. It is primarily a judgment of "parenting", not particularly of the people who dabble in it. For the greatest harm can be done with the best of intentions. Maybe they failed because they "didn’t know better". Maybe they passed on what was given to them. They too were once children, and perhaps they themselves were victims in some way. But do any of these possibilities or facts change the outcome? Or reverse our trauma? Sadly, no.
Deep down, somewhere, there is still is a child reaching out for help because they have been hurt. Don’t shut them up or push them away. Don’t yell at them or tell them “not to be so dramatic”. Instead, just listen. For healing also means acknowledging all the wounds that have been inflicted, both visible and invisible. Don’t belittle them just because you don't like their choice of words.
So please, just take that child's hand. Even if they're already an adult. Listen closely. Watch carefully. It doesn’t matter if you can’t fully grasp the implications of what you're hearing or seeing. Just be open and compassionate. And maybe your own inner child will speak up and have a thing or two to say.

I'd like to make a claim that might be seen as taboo in general society: we need to stop worshipping sociopathic behaviour.
Time and time again I've seen the same story being told by journalists, documentary narrators, and people who knew him: Michael Jordan is admirable because he's hell bent on winning no matter what. He was willing to play through a flu, he punched his teammate, he yelled at and abused people around him, and his winning mentality lead to 6 championships. This is someone I was told that I should respect and admire.
Why?
Why are we still worshipping someone with mental health problems who behaved like a jackass and happened to be good at his profession?
The stories we tell impact the people we become, and I'm tired of these old stories about "obsession" that really boil down to "the ends justify the means".
Michael Jordan is still alive btw. His closest teammate hates him. The organisations he managed did very poorly, and throughout his life he was known as a reckless gambler.
This isn't to say Michael is irredeemable. He clearly loves playing basketball and watching his instructional videos on YouTube I can tell he's a charming polite guy.
I'm not saying we should vilify Michael. I'm just saying we shouldn't pretend he's someone children should emulate, because he absolutely isn't.
Michael came from a broken home and he was fuelled by anger, hatred and jealousy. That's a toxic way to live and all the Nike money in the world don't fix it.

I (31F) started dating again a little over a year ago and I have noticed a pattern that's new to me. The sex is bad.
After a string of unhealthy relationships, I took some time (2 years) away from my romantic and sexual interests and dove deep into therapy and focusing on my physical and mental health.
I think I'm starting to realize that there's an unfortunate link between good sex and toxic relationships.
I'm also realizing that I have been incredibly lucky in my sexual history. I've been with a good amount of men. So far, most of them (especially in my long term relationships) have had a penis somewhere between 6-7+ inches.
I have been with 4 men in the past year, all in their 30s, and the sex has been generally not good. Two of them were decent in the 4play department, but not great. The other two were not. And all of them had an unsatisfying penis size for me. As I recently talked this through with a friend, I had no idea that a 5 inch penis was so common. Additionally, most of them all seemed pretty unexperienced and slightly insecure in their relationship to their own bodies and a shared sexual experience. I felt like I was back in my early 20s/late teens.
I'm having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that this could just be the price I pay for a healthy relationship. The first two I thought were just unlucky... but after the next two, I'm beginning to feel defeated.
I've heard that most women don't care much about size, but I'm finding that I really miss the connection of that sudden full feeling that makes you feel locked with someone. There's also just the sexual satisfaction that I would get from them mechanics of it all...
I know that I have been attracting men who are more stable than before. All of the recent men I have been with are really nice and kind and mostly have their life together. On paper, they would be great life partners, but I broke it off because the sexual experience was so disappointing. Even though I tried to let this go, I found myself harboring resentments and avoiding intimate contact.
I don't want to be this way. I feel shallow for having this preference and I want to make the decision that maybe sex just isn't that important. The purpose of this Thread is to provide some basic guidelines for using this sub and roleplaying here, as well as allow everybody to engage in Meta discussion about the subreddit itself, such as asking for feedback about your posts or sharing some suggestions with the Mod team.
With that out of the way, here are some basic roleplaying guidelines in no particular order:

• Pokémon Universe: Whenever you are posting on this sub, you should ask yourself "Is this story about Pokémon? Could this story only take place in the Pokémon universe?". Remember, no matter how interesting of a story you tell with your RP, people ultimately come here for Pokémon, not for your OCs.
• Stay Grounded: At its core, this subreddit is primarily intended for slice-of-life style content. More high-concept stories are allowed, but should be used sparingly and carefully. This guideline should be taken together with the "Pokémon Universe" guideline - yes, alternate dimensions and time travel and the like all canonically exist in the franchise, but only peripherally. Direct interaction with these concepts is rare, and should generally be treated as a big deal, not something to be done on a whim. The same goes for using Legendary and Mythical Pokémon in a post (having your character own such a Pokémon is especially frowned upon).
• Main Character Syndrome: When coming up with a character to roleplay as, people have a nasty tendency to make their character so competent and powerful and special that they immediately monopolize all the attention in any given story, bending the narrative around themselves rather than being part of it. It's essentially the classic playground attitude of "Well, i have a magic shield that makes me completely invincible, and a magic wand that lets me kill anyone in the world at any time, so i win!". Please try as hard as you can to avoid this. Give your character flaws, weaknesses, and limitations.
• Provide Context: We all love to RP, but keep in mind that, statistically speaking, 90% of everyone who reads one of your posts has never seen or read any of your posts before. Therefore, even if a post is part of an ongoing storyline, you should make sure that a complete newcomer to the sub can understand what's going on based on just that one post. For example: If your character's Pokémon all have nicknames, you should clarify what species they are somewhere in the post, otherwise nobody will be able to picture the story you're trying to tell.
• Don't Say No: The first rule of improv is that you should never simply say "No, that's not true.". That just shuts down the conversation. Instead, try saying something like "Yes, that's true, but...". Of course, this doesn't mean you can't disagree or argue, but try to actually address the other person's arguments instead of just dismissing them.
• Don't Butt In On Other's Storylines: If a Post Flair contains the word "Storyline", that means it's part of an ongoing storyline. You may create your own posts to tie-in to that storyline, but you must first ask the User who started the storyline for permission.
• Remember We're Still on Reddit: This is not an active "play-by-post" narrative RP forum where we actively Pokémon battle each other in the comments or play out conversations with our team members in real time on one post. Every comment should realistically be written "after the action" when your character actually has a moment to sit down on their PC or whip out their phone to make a comment or shitpost online. To put it simply, ask yourself "Is this actually something that someone might post on social media?".
• Don't play to the audience. Play for yourself: Tell the story you have because you want to tell it. If you put fame and clicks above that, the story will quickly lose its essence and charm. Writing is a form of expression, not a shortcut to fame. Express yourself because it's what you want, not to be popular.
• Play ball with others: Roleplay is a collaborative effort. For others to respect your lore, you should play bal with theirs. Remember to "yes, and" interactions as well as making yours open-ended. Be receptive to change, and keep the story moving so that everyone can participate.
• Avoid stories/characters that can't change: Digging your heels in on one idea discourages engagement. It breeds invisible frustration when interacting with a story that refuses to change no matter the input. This is a collaborative medium. Other people's influence shouldn't change your ideas entirely, but there should still feel like there is feedback. Cooperate. Simple as that. Play with others, and let yourself be influenced as you influence them.

Now, these guidelines are all subjective, so we won't be enforcing them as strictly as Rules, but we do reserve the right to remove posts that we feel are not even attempting to conform to these.

Reading (mostly western) sources on Hinduism I am having a lot of trouble figuring out what exactly tantra is, and how it fits into Hinduism. I have seen everything from relatively mundane "mystical" practices comparable to Christian mystical practices aimed at developing sensatios of unity with the Divine, to "occult" practices that seem comparable to western "magical" practices, to some truly bizarre and shocking things that center around intentionally breaking taboos as an extreme display of unattachment. I would imagine that these latter aspects are probably seen as fringe and are not accepted by the majority of Hindus as a legitimate form of practice.
I think this particular subject is difficult to read about online since the posts and articles that show up in English at least seem very western focused, with either anti Hindu biases or "New Age"/Hippy influences focused mainly on sexual practices that seem taken out of their original context given what else I have read about Hinduism. Wikipedia isn't super helpful either, since a lot of the articles on these subjects are written from what appear to be biased in favor of a particular view, and none provide a satisfactory answer of "what do normal people actually think about this?" So relatively mundane practices are lumped in with extreme practices under the same umbrella.
