  2. Function of marketing is not generating sales. It’s creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that has value.
  3. In this post we’ll focus on Shopify stores marketing. However in the big picture marketing has not limited with companies. Marketing can be done within organization or society.
Let’s summarize what marketing definition for a Shopify store. Marketing will create, communicate, deliver and exchange offers that have value for customers. As you can see main subject in here is customers. Because of this, I’ll put customers as the center of this guide. Everything we’ll do has to something with them.

Market Research, Competitor Analysis and Defining Your Target Market

This is a practical guide for marketing so I want to continue with a hypothetical Shopify stores for each steps.
Let’s say we have a Shopify store that has some high-end, organic baby clothes targeting new parents.

Market Research

How can we do the market research?
Let’s say you have a new Shopify store that has less than 500 order per month. You can hire expensive agencies, expensive experts to research the market, create market reports for you, etc. Even if you do that, I highly suspicious if it helps you.
However you can talk with your new-parent friends. Ask them about how do they decide to buy baby clothes? What they are looking for before completing their purchases? Do they get any expert opinion before making buying decision? How do they search online and what they want to see? Is there any great YouTube channels about this.
Don’t have any friends? Checkout your friends not a new-parents but parents and ask similar questions to them. If you also don’t have them, try to make new born friends. I know how hard it is but let’s be honest here. If you don’t know anybody in your target audience, how do you manage to get know them? All of the successful stores I saw they have direct relationship with their target audience.
When you make your research with real people, then you can extend your project to online. Try to search as they do. What do you find? Deep in dive and take your notes.

Competitor Analysis

When you done this market research, you’ll also see there are some other brands. This is a huge subject but let’s call these brands as competitor for now.
Now it’s time to analyze them.
  1. Checkout their branding strategy.
  2. What are their value propositions?
  3. What is hot about them? Return guarantee, free shipping etc.
  4. What is not hot about them? Poor product or store design, low UX on the website, etc.
  5. What people think about them? Google reviews, Trust pilot reviews, product reviews on the store.
  6. Are there any partnership or influencer program they’re running?
  7. What is their Google/YouTube campaign strategy? Check it here.
  8. What is their Facebook/Instagram campaign strategy? Check it here.
Create a spreadsheet with all of this information. We’ll use this when working on positioning and marketing strategy.

Define Your Target Market

What do you say about our target market? Can all of new parents be our target market?
Nope, it can’t. You need to deep dive into your market and find a sub-segment, a niche that will need your products much better than anybody else and afford it easily.
This is what I called ideal customer profile (ICP). Check out what is ideal customer profile and how to create your ideal customer profile posts to learn more about the concept.
For our hypothetical store, ICP can be something like this;

Pain Points
Needs
Buying Behaviors
After creating ICP, it’s important to spend some time on empathy map. Don’t forget to check it, too.
Now we know our baby clothes Shopify store market, customer’s buying process and our ideal customer profile.

Brand Identity and How to Create Your Branding

I’ll follow the American Marketing Association (AMA) in here too.
First look at brand definition. AMA defines brand as “any distinctive feature like a name, term, design, or symbol that identifies goods or services”.
Branding is for creating and managing your brand’s identity. It involves your mission, values, culture and public image.
I’m not an expert on brand, but I know how branding can be effective for your conversions and performance. Here are some checklist for you.
  1. Design consistency is the key. Your visual identity should be consistent across social media, Shopify store, emails, product detail pages, etc.
  2. Copy consistency is the key. Your communication style should be consistent across social media, Shopify store, emails, product detail pages, etc.
  3. Experience consistency is the key. Let’s say your brand looks like a high-end brand and when a new visitor visit your store first they see is an annoying popup saying want to get 10% OFF. This is simply how to destroy your brand.
  4. Craft a story and stick to it. What makes you create this brand? Faces behind the brand. This is a huge leverage for creating trust and building bonds.

Go-to-Market Strategy and Defining Your Marketing Strategy

So far we identified our target market and ideal customer profile. Check out competitors and creates the branding for our store.
Now it’s time to work on go-to-market strategy and crafting our marketing strategy.

Go-to-Market Strategy

Let’s say you recently launched your Shopify store or add a new line of products.
You need a plan to introduce your store or new products to the market. This is what we called go-to-market(GTM) strategy.
Main goal of the GTM is letting people know that there is a new brand or product line. It’s similar to launch marketing. Key message here is there is a new products/brand launched and it offer the best for you. Give it a try, you’ll love it.
All of your messages and communication should be parallel to this process.
Our focus is convincing people to try our products/brand. So I always offer a special campaign just for the launch to give people to a reason to try your products/brand.
For our hypothetical Shopify store we can run a special campaign for launch like;

Marketing Strategy

This is your plan of actions to sell or advertise your products. Now we can talk about selling part of the marketing.
Let’s say you have GREAT advertising creatives and a huge budget and just spending it. Don’t wait to crack the code and having lot’s of sales.

Now we can continue with our hypothetical store example. We’re selling high-end, organic baby clothes on our store. We crafted our ICP, empathy map, work on branding and created our story.

Example Marketing Strategy

First step we’ll work on attention step. Our focus is getting attention of our target market attention.
We can create a educative e-book like “7 Harmful Chemicals Commonly Used in Baby Clothes and How to Avoid Them” and run some campaigns targeted new parents on social network (Facebook, Instagram or YouTube)
This ads will land on a landing page that gives brief information about why we should pay attention to chemicals in baby clothes for our little ones and make a promise like “I spend my last 5 years about researching chemicals on baby clothes and prepare this book for you and your little one”. Also there can be a quick video about our story explaining our expertise in this field and why we’re building this brand.
We can ask for their email address to share the book with them. When they enter their email address, we’ll send them this ebook.
After first email with the ebook, we can send a few more emails with easy to digest information about chemicals.
This will create an expertise image on our target customers and start to create a bond with them. Not a bad start, right?
At the same time we can use this content on our social media, right? Quick videos, infographics and posts about the chemicals in the baby clothes.
After getting a few thousands subscribers we can organize a webinar to answer questions. This will also a great content for re-used social media content and creating trust and expert image.
Then we can share a time-limited promotion with this people for a bundle. Like we’re running a campaign and these 5 chemical free baby clothes bundles 10% discounted until next week!
We can send emails about it and use this campaign for remarketing for only people who show interest in our e-book and webinar.
This is a very brief template of marketing plan.
Now let’s take a look at more common one.
It’s time for you. Which one do you want to choose? All of the experts recommending this without even asking who are your customers. Can you believe it?
Don’t forget that marketing strategy is not a hope. It’s a well documented plan of actions designed for turning strangers into customers.

Inside the marketing strategy, channels plays a vital role. There are lot’s of ways to group channels. I’ll use most basic one.
Inbound Marketing Channels: With the inbound marketing your customers will find you and start the interaction. Most common channel for inbound marketing is organic search engine optimization.
After creating high quality content, when customers search something online, they can see your articles and first interaction happens.
Outbound Marketing Channels: With the outbound marketing you reach out to customers. Facebook/Instagram/YouTube ads, influencer marketing, display ads, podcast ads can be count in this category.
As you can imagine inbound marketing channels takes lot’s of efforts and time however over the time you’ll have organic marketing channel and it brings you customer without needing any budget.
Outbound marketing channels generally works with advertisement models and you need budgets to run these channels.

Smooth idle, heavy misfire in drive. I need help narrowing down symptoms.
Hey all, sorry if this has been asked recently, I couldn't find a post quite like this through search. I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander 3.3 V6. A few months back I had a pretty bad misfire at high speed and ended up changing cyl 4 ingnition coil and it was a fine for a while. Recently, Ive had a check engine light, with Trac off and VSC lights, which still indicates misfire or aigas issue. Due to my schedule and being broke I sorta let it go on for a while since I didn't really notice anything wrong while driving.
This is until a few days ago after I stopped for gas, I went to cross an intersection and my car started misfiring and sputtering, with barely enough power to cross the road. I was able to limp it to get the code read, and just like previously I had a code that basically said all cyl misfire, though for a while the car was fine. I ended up pulling the sparkplugs and found lots of oil in one of the cylinders, so I replaced the valve cover and plug seal gaskets. While I was at it I bought a 6 set of MGK spark plugs since the old ones looked like theyve had better days (not carbonized or severely burned, besides the one being oily).
Now the orientation of the engine allows for great access to one valve cover, though the other one is tilted towards the firewall and is buried under the intake manifold and getting to it requires practically removing the entire air system, so I figured I'd be fine doing one side and getting back to the other side when I had a full day off. To my delight the car ran great. I ended up buying a new PCV valve and installed it later that night. I immediately noticed that I had a slight loss in power between 20-30 mph. The next day, in the span of about 6 miles, the car suffered loss of power, to misfiring during acceleration, all the way to nearly stalling out when starting to move. I damn near coasted it through the neighborhood to my house, and during this time I could smell a little bit of oil burning. I immediately checked the gaskets to what I replaced but they all seemed fine. My coolant is perfectly clear as is my oil, air filter is fine with no sign of excess blowby. Idk if the PCV valve meant anything, I doubt it would have such an impact though? Would a plenum gasket leak maybe have an affect to this extreme?
Overall I noticed I can fire up the car just fine now, but the car suffers great loss in power the moment it's in drive. I already plan on doing the other valve/plug gasket and buying a plenum gasket tomorrow. What else can I do/look for? Thank you (also sorry for the novel)!

Air or broken seal in the brake master cylinder?
Hi,
I just figured that I'd go through with changing the brake fluid on my Saab 9-3 1.8i (Z18XE, 2007) for the first time ever, as far as I know -that means at least five years. The fluid came back ok on my tester, below 1% water content, but still, it's most likely way overdue.
So, I did both vacuum pump together with someone pushing the brake pedal, as well as just the brake pedal (which I preferred as you didn't get any phantom air sucked in at the nipple), and did it in the right order and volume four or five times in total. However, during the first of those times, I wrecked one bleed screw as I got fooled by how tight it was (probably just due to rust) and foolishly tightened it with the same leverage, and had to change the entire caliper, followed by four new bleeding procedures. The last two with the ignition on (not engine running), because I read on the Saab forums that that'd allow one to get air out of the ABS as well (found no other source for that, and nothing about it in the WIS).
The only problem is that when I wrecked the bleed screw, of course fluid leaked out. In the end, the reservoir ran empty. No idea if the master cylinder also got empty, but that doesn't seem unlikely... But actually, I always had the reservoir cap on when the leakage happened, and IIRC there wasn't that much leakage, only when the pedal was depressed, so perhaps it never got that far since the atmosphere couldn't gravity bleed the brake line with the cap on?
Now, no bubbles are coming out anymore, and I still feel that the pedal is rock solid with the engine off. Turning the engine on, it sinks of course, and gives some resistance but if you just keep pressure on it, it slowly sinks down, probably all the way. After the brakes have stopped the car, you can also easily push the pedal a bit further and then slowly the rest of the way, as demonstrated in the video. I've read that Saabs with turbo usually have a vacuum pump which makes the servo very powerful, and then it might be normal with a pedal sinking far when stopped, but I don't recognize this behavior at all, so I'm pretty sure this is out of the ordinary. The brake certainly still stops the car however. I haven't driven at high speeds, but I tried speeding up very briefly on the lawn to let's say 10 km/h (6 mph) and braking and it stops fine. The brakes bite with just light toe pressure, but after that I can easily push the pedal quite a bit further and then slowly even further.
I heard that you might wreck the seals in the master cylinder by pushing the brake pedal too far while bleeding. That might definitely have happened, I have pushed it pretty far while not bleeding as well.
So this problem is likely either an internal leak or air trapped in the master cylinder, right? Is it possible to tell which? The brake pedal wouldn't get back up if it was a stuck caliper etc. right? What should I do, just siphon out as much liquid as I can from the reservoir, put a catch can underneath and unhook the hoses from the master cylinder, put some hoses up to the reservoir and do a bench bleed while it's still in there? Or, this is a very lazy method I haven't seen anywhere else, but Scotty Kilmer just loosens the brake lines from the master cylinder a bit and then just apparently gets the air out with no hose routing needed, just basically the same principle as bleeding the calipers by pushing the pedal, but now pretending that the brake hoses are bleeding nipples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz4OwuUGVOA

2024.05.14 09:22 Mettis25 Help identify this car situation. (ABS light momentarily on)

So I was driving normally for 200km (124 miles), then decided to press the gas a bit more and sped up to 140km/h (87mph) twice in a gentle downhill. During the second acceleration the ABS light came on. I slowed down and stopped the car few minutes after that. Turned off the car and started it again but the light was still on. Then turned it off again and started again and this time the light was off and haven't become on after that. I have drove around 100km (62 miles) after that without a problem.
What can cause that? Should I be worried?
Car in question is KIA Cerato (Forte, K3, Forte K3 or Shuma) model year 2005 (I think). This is the engine code: G4ED. It has 4 cylinders, runs on gas, has 105 hp and stroke volume is 97.5 cubic inches or 1.6 litres.

I’m 19 this is my 1979 pontiac firebird formula I bought a while ago. I traded an 08 Ducati Hypermotard 1100s for it lol I know right but I wanted a project car so. it’s got the olds 403 that has been completely gone through (new water pump, new oil pump, new fuel pump, everything in the heads, edelbrock 71111 intake, edelbrock 750CFI carb, new starter, and a comp cam that I can get you the specs for. it’s mated to a used TH350 3 speed auto trans with roughly 50k miles with a 20200 stall converter in it.
that’s where it sits now, mechanically it’s okay ish, I recently found it had way too much slack in the timing chain so i’m replacing that tomorrow, dunno if it skipped timing, i’m told it’s a noninterference engine so just gonna assume everything is okay lol been talking to my buddy with lots of years experience building engines and we’re thinking of putting it +4° - +6° cam timing to boost up some cylinder pressure.
I know it looks like absolute sin and it sure smells like it too but I am excited for the challenge of learning to fix all those cosmetic things
i don’t know fully what my plans are for the car, i have some ideas that i’d love to share but for now i’m just kinda running with it.

2024.05.14 07:13 Max-Payd Failed injector N55 question

Outside of working on diesel engines, I have no experience with gasoline direct injection. I understand how the system works in theory but I haven't worked on the DI system directly. No cars that came to me needed injectors including my own
Car: 2015 BMW 335i xDrive Automatic Mileage: 232,000
The issues started about 2 years ago with what felt like a random misfire. The owner has taken it to the stealership several times. Each time the owner was provided a different solution. Two independent shops misdiagnosed the issue as well.
1) Dealership removed JB4, test drove the vehicle and was able to recreate the misfire. No stored codes. Technician changes spark plugs and then upgraded the firmware/software/iStep level to the latest version. Issue still exiet
2) independent shop 1 replaced all 6 coils. Spark plugs are "good". Spark plug gap is at 0.030" OEM plugs. Bosch aftermarket coils installed
3) independent shop 2 A transfer case is "felt" through the seat. It is binding. Fluid is replaced 4) dealership finds nothing with computer scan.. waste. 5) car is back at independent shop 1. Test drive, no misfire. Ordered new transfer case
Now the car is with me. I found the long term fuel trim is rich (computer is removing fuel). Short term trim is fine. Everything seems fine because no codes are being reported except the fuel trim being too fat (rich). The car hasn't had an oil change and TSB recommends replacing oil after winter.
Randomly car will hesitate, misfire and delivery poor fuel economy. Client drives car longer until the misfires throw a code. Cylinder 5 injector is showing +10 at idle. Random misfire made worse under load. Random misfire and cylinder 5 misfires are showing up in dme.
I pulled the plug and the gap was larger than. 0.022 but rather 0.030 but look brand new.
Should I consider replacing the injector?
Do I need EU6? Are injectors interchangeable between N55, N20 and N63?
Do I code them in Ista?
Can I clean the injectors in a solvent and ultrasonic cleaner? Tapping on the injectors tops and . moving them around seemed to significantly improve the dead misfires. I had to clear the code since the dme turns the injectors off.
If I have to replace them, what's the best option to buy them? Should all 6 be replaced? Others are reporting normally in the live data.

Background:
  1. Mech Engi, but engi department is so short staffed that we do Manufacturing Process Engineering, QA/QC, R&D, RMA, machine support/shop fixes, & Project Engineer positions.
  2. Company's starting hourly wage is not competitive @ 25/hr. Thus, high turn over rate.
  3. I have been working for a year, and company is already 2 months late on a company wide raise for all.
  4. I know historically, the first year, new grads like me get a 5/hr bump.
  5. However, I am being laterally (while under same title) moved to a different position that gets commission (1% of custom projects with a cap of 100k, per company policy).
  6. I KNOW for a fact that this company will say something along the lines that "since there is now commission, that is considered your 'raise' ".
  7. I also know that on Indeed, the newest offers for this Manufacturing Engineer 1 position is 28-32/hr.
Essentially, if they do even bump me to 28/hr without moving me, I am NOT getting a raise if new hires get 28/hr. Therefore, my bump needs to exceed 28/hr.
So the question is, am I asking too much? As in, ask for at least 28/hr + commission? I also understand that typical commission based salary is usually lower, but that doesn't reflect the fact that I have already been there 1 year expecting the +5/hr bump.

Some extras:
  1. I have access to an excel spreadsheet that shows turn over rates of all engineers. Somewhere around 2008-2010, the company mentality changed from having career engineers staying at company for 5-20 years to newer grads like me that bounce 6mo-1.5 yr.
  2. Company mentality would rather let someone go at X/hr then hire someone at X+Y/hr.
  3. I have MSME.
  4. Location Fullerton.

  1. I also know how much this company up-charges b/c engineering department. I know they can afford the raise.

  1. Company prioritizes hiring more sales and marketing over engineering because they can fill open vacancies within 1-2 weeks where engineering takes months.
    1. 9 engineers (4 normal, 2 supervisor, 2 shop, 1 manager).
    2. 2 dedicated R&D engineers.
    3. 1 dedicated electrical engineer.
    4. 16 sales (10 normal, 4 wfh, 1 supervisor, 1 manager).
    5. 10 marketing (8 normal, 1 general manager, 1 manager)
Edit 3:
  1. Marketing can push new products and other photoshopped ideas to engineering before testing and tell us it has been sold, so engineering needs to think of a way to make it reality.
  2. Sales can also sell some custom products which marketing likes and that becomes new products (with no testing).
  3. Prototypes & ecr's being all bundled into a custom product to be already sold to client then labeled as 1 work order.

I have done a fresh reinstall of skyrim SSE , and my last step was installing and running dyndlod , everything runs fine with no errors, but with it enabled i get a crash to desktop before the menu can load up. I have tried making a profile with only my tree and grass mods, and the same thing happens every single time. I have gone over the steps and cant wrap my head around what is causing this. 2024.05.14 03:39 Underated_trxsh Need opinions on sitting car

Parents have a vehicle that’s been sitting in the garage for about 5 or 6 years. It is a 2016 Chrysler 200 2.4L I4 I believe. From what my parents say, nothing was wrong with it other than needing a new tie rod on the right side before it was parked. Also it did get a tune up right before. It does need a new battery and all fluids changed obviously. Without seizing the engine when trying to start, I was thinking spraying fogging oil into the cylinders and hand cranking the crankshaft to lubricant it. Then try and start it. What yall think?
