So my friend recently got a job completely out of the blue that pays them extremely well and gives them amazing benefits. We’re talking this person has the opportunity and means to take multiple overseas holidays every year with their pay and scheduling of their job. The job in question is not one they studied for nor was it one that was in their industry. Basically there was a (very rare) job opening and they interviewed well and got the job.
Now, I know I should be happy for them. But it’s so hard to not compare myself. I studied hard and performed well academically to get the job I have, and I’ve worked hard at it consistently since leaving university to get on a decent salary with some perks. This person gets a job in a completely random field with no experience and no relevant prior training and is somehow living this lifestyle. The way this person talks is also not helping me come to terms with this.
For example, this person will often make flippant statements that they are “broke”, even though they are going on multiple expensive trips per year, have bought a new car etc. At other times they have made comments lamenting how they can’t believe how much things cost and that it’s so hard for them.
It’s hard not to feel upset by this when we are in a cost of living and housing crisis, and my “decent salary” is rapidly affording me (and people on similar salaries to me) less and less. I’m not poor by any means, I have enough for the essentials and some leisure too, but I’m barely saving and I certainly don’t have the money to be going on anything more than a local trip. The housing market is incredibly out of reach for me and I am left dealing with a rental crisis where rents have skyrocketed ~50% in two years where I live. I’ve highlighted that complaining about being “broke” is tone deaf and frankly given them a bit of a talking to but it just doesn’t seem to register with them. Alternatively they may be saying things like this just to be annoying.
I know I should be happy for them. They have an amazing, incredible job! They get fabulous perks! But honestly, I don’t feel happy. I’m not happy. They didn’t work for this opportunity and they haven’t done anything to deserve it. It should be me in this financial position and not them. I should be succeeding in life and having these amazing milestones but instead I feel like an utter failure, even though I am only mid twenties and financially independent, debt free, good career, fit and healthy etc. The cost of living and housing crisis (right on the back of COVID too) has honestly stripped me of so much confidence that I had of ever having a financially secure future. I’m angry at myself for not being “better” and earning this unbelievably high salary but I’m also so angry at my country for deluding my generation into thinking we could succeed if we studied hard and got a good job.

I have a 2022 3.3T Sport Prestige. The clearcoat on my wheels is starting to come off (as they seem to do). I am the second owner, so I wasn't sure they would be covered. After having read a few reddit post about warranty issues I was worried I was out of luck, so I dug through the warranty info in the manual and online. (See pics)
Warranty clearly states Paint coverage (New Vehicle items on the summary chart) is transferable and is covered for 3 years/36,000 miles.
The first person I talked to was in the service department and met me as I came in the door. I told her, my clearcoat was separating, and she asked if I was the first owner. When I said no, she said, "We usually don't cover the small stuff like that, for second owners, but you could talk to the sales guys to find out for sure."
I went to the sales guys and they said, they had no idea and that I should talk with the service manager. He was gone, so I called him the next day (after I found the warranty info). I explained the situation and he said, "Yeah, you still get that coverage. Bring it in, we'll take pictures and send them to Genesis to evaluate."
The day I got in, I was greeted by another service rep and explained to her the situation (which was on her notes from the appointment paperwork). Then she said, "Are you the first owner?", of course I said "No" and she said, "This is only covered for first owners". I responded, that I had already talked with the service manager and it IS covered for any owners for 3 years. She quickly followed with, "Well, we'll take pictures and send them in for Genesis to approve, and we'll let you know". I also mentioned, that I'd like the trim looked at, as it was looking hazy on the rear passenger side (oddly different from the other pieces).
When I got the call to pickup the car, the assistant service manager told me that Genesis was sending them 2 new front wheels (regardless of my curb rash - see pics). Also, said they would have to try and polish the trim, when I brought it back for the wheels. If the polishing doesn't work, they would order the trim and replace it. All at no cost to me.
So I got everything I wanted (or will get what I wanted). Just need to know who to talk to.
Also getting the engine fire recall work done in a few weeks, when they get those parts in. I asked if they had the tool to do that work without pulling the engine and they said they did. She (the assistant manager) also said she would schedule it when the better of their 2 Genesis techs was working.
I hope that helps you guys get what you deserve for your Genesis. Don't let the front desk make new rules. :)
Note: I live in Washington State. The manager did ask if it was purchased out of state and he looked it up and was able to tell where it had originally and recently been sold. Apparently in states that use salt or other harsh chemicals, they don't cover the wheels or maybe they are more stingy with coverage? Good luck!
Note 2: The worst curb rash was caused by me, the day after I made my appointment to get the wheels looked at. So, Genesis approved the replacement even with the curb rash. ( I am so paranoid of door dings, I have gotten too close on the right side and bit the curb.) Apparently the 1st owner did the same thing and then covered it up with touch up paint, but Genesis didn't care about any of that. I will be much more careful with the new wheels.

Backstory, my older sister 29 was married to the most AMAZING man, let call him Chase. At the end of 2022 start of 2023 Chase raised speculation that my sister was sleeping or seeing someone at the state prison she worked at. My sister, let’s call her Sarah, denied this. Chase and Sarah went through a rough time, but it seemed to get better, they ended up becoming pregnant with their second child due later in 2023, but ended up separating before child was born. Chase tried everything in his power to make it work, but my sister just didn’t love him anymore and never even showed my sadness over this separation. Chase has been an Outstanding dad to their 2 kids, and they are great at con parenting. He is always a part of the family as the father of my sisters children.
My sister has been talking about quitting her job, at the prison. Everyone was happy to hear this, as we felt that job just changed her and the hours were ridiculous, and on Sunday she said she probably wasn’t going back to work and wasn’t going to show up Monday. Well today, (Tuesday). She sends me a message and said this is my new boyfriend. I immediately asked for details and she said she would call me and send me a few pictures, great, I’ll support it. Then she tells me that she met him though work, they worked together but he just never got to go home. I started calling, she finally answered and confirmed that she was dating an inmate. Then said he was released on Monday. (No wonder she quit her job). I was a little in shock, but she said he served his 10 year sentence for aggravated home and theft robbery, I also found out he has multiple warrants out, and she told me he used to be a gang member.
My concern is for her two kids one under 6 and one under 1. Maybe this man is changed, but I don’t think 1 day out of prison can show that. Apparently this has been going on for for a while considering he “paid” for her maternity leave, her ex husband chase noticed she was getting thousands sent to her on cashapp, and she put this large down payment on a car, my dad did the financing and was really curious to where that came from, because she always talks about not having money and has my mother paying for things.
She proceeds to tell me how great his family his, that they are super big Christians, and he is a new man, etc. obviously he was affiliated with something if he could send thousands of dollars while in prison. I told her that I hope she waits before he is around the kids, but I have a feeling she will not. And I didn’t think it was smart to date someone who has not been a part of the real world in 10 years. He is going to face his own obstacles and temptation of going back to a lifestyle he was once in. I told her I didn’t want to meet him, and I may reconsider after I have more information on how he is living a better life. But I just don’t support this choice. My sister has been talking about quitting her job, at the prison. Everyone was happy to hear this, as we felt that job just changed her and the hours were ridiculous, and on Sunday she said she probably wasn’t going back to work and wasn’t going to show up Monday. Well today, (Tuesday). She sends me a message and said this is my new boyfriend. I immediately asked for details and she said she would call me and send me a few pictures, great, I’ll support it. Then she tells me that she met him though work, they worked together but he just never got to go home. I started calling, she finally answered and confirmed that she was dating an inmate. Then said he was released on Monday. (No wonder she quit her job). I was a little in shock, but she said he served his 10 year sentence for aggravated home and theft robbery, I also found out he has multiple warrants out, and she told me he used to be a gang member.
My concern is for her two kids one under 6 and one under 1. Maybe this man is changed, but I don’t think 1 day out of prison can show that. Apparently this has been going on for for a while considering he “paid” for her maternity leave, her ex husband chase noticed she was getting thousands sent to her on cashapp, and she put this large down payment on a car, my dad did the financing and was really curious to where that came from, because she always talks about not having money and has my mother paying for things.
She proceeds to tell me how great his family his, that they are super big Christians, and he is a new man, etc. obviously he was affiliated with something if he could send thousands of dollars while in prison. I told her that I hope she waits before he is around the kids, but I have a feeling she will not. And I didn’t think it was smart to date someone who has not been a part of the real world in 10 years. He is going to face his own obstacles and temptation of going back to a lifestyle he was once in. I told her I didn’t want to meet him, and I may reconsider after I have more information on how he is living a better life. But I just don’t support this choice. Airport
- We flew into Liberia.
- Customs (crowded, but quick) and bags were easy.
- Duty Free store prices seemed reasonable for a Westerner.
Car Rental
- I don't think there are any on-site car rental agencies.
- We rented through Hertz. Online quote was $297.55. Online said $18/day third-party liability, in-store they said $25/day. Also, everything is subject to another 13% tax. And another $18 for roadside assistance. Total was close to $600.
- None of this is delivered in any formal manner. The new quote amount is written on a business card and shown to you at the counter.
- We were able to waive the CDW by getting a Letter of Eligibility from eClaimsLine (I used a Chase Sapphire Reserve)
- They are very thorough with documenting the condition of the car. If you damage anything, they'll definitely notice.
- Probably the worst renting experience I've ever done. And I came in knowing all about TPL and CDW waivers, etc.
- Only drove from Papagayo to Rio Celeste to La Fortuna, then back to Papagayo. Roads and other drivers were great. Only one small stretch of road/dirt where I was glad we rented an SUV. A sedan got stuck on that stretch on our drive back.
Lodging
- Andaz Papagayo - Exactly what you expect. Reminded me of a more lush Park Hyatt St. Kitts. Easy to stay on property. Very sterile. People exaggerate how busy the carts are on the walking paths - it's like every other resort with carts. Probably not worth cash rate and maybe not even points. Food was fine. If you're Globalist, do all your breakfast at Ostra. All service staff (servers, bartenders, drivers) was excellent.
- Tabacon - I think the rooms were nicer and liked walking the property more than the Andaz. On-site pool kind of disappointing. The thermal pools are down the street and open to the public. The first night we went it was a little too party/clubby than we expected. Bartenders were great.
Attractions
- Mega Combo Zip Line Tour and Volcano Hot Spring at Rincon de la Vieja. Price included round-trip transit from Papagayo. The ziplines were cool. We were ahead of a large group, so we got through all ziplines pretty quickly (which was fine). The waterslide was really good. I could have skipped the horseback riding, lunch, and the volcano hot spring.
- Rio Celeste - Easily the highlight of the trip. Walk the whole thing if you can. If you're late for your time, they'll let you in with the next group. They won't let you in early. We were able to park and swim just up the road from the park entrance.
- Arenal 1968 Volcano View - It's a fine hike. I think they said the full loop is around 3 hours and I think we did it in close to 90 minutes. The viewpoint is whatever and early into the hike. If you don't want to hike, you can just go to the cafe which is the last stop of the hike.
- SkyAdventures Ziplines & Hanging Bridges at Arenal Park was good. I think a more polished zipline experience than the one we did at Rincon de la Vieja, but a lot more waiting around between the ziplines because of the big groups. The hanging bridges walk was good, but they give you 2.5 hours to finish it (and a zipline ticket for that time). We did it in less than 90 minutes and they wouldn't let us zipline until our ticket time. I don't know how this compares to the Mistico Park Hanging Bridges, but I think I'd rather have just done ziplining here and the bridges at Mistico Park.
Food
- Mostly ate at the resorts. Probably not helpful for those not staying at the Andaz or Tabacon, so I'll post those in the Hyatt subreddit.
- La Ventanita in El Castillo (next to SkyAdventures) - Went here because sand-in-my-toes71 said they're the "Best burritos I’ve ever eaten". Apparently the owner is from California, which makes sense why you're getting Mission burritos in Costa Rica. Very good food for Costa Rica and great views.
- Blue River Brewery in Bijagua de Upala (next to Rio Celeste) - Went here because I wanted a beer after Rio Celeste. Food is fine, beer is good. The trees across the way have toucans. We saw a bunch. The lady who worked there told us that one of the best places to see sloths is at the Finca Verde Lodge (we didn't go, so unconfirmed).

Bought house for 332,000, a bunch of horrible personal events/decisions happened, and now I’m 13 months behind (and honestly don’t want to keep the property) I have three vehicle repossessions and driving one now without the loan company unaware of where we moved to. (Low cost rental) Mortgage company said they’re about to put property up for auction and I’ve read about deficiency judgements and I’m pretty sure there will be a deficiency. I can’t afford to pay 100,000 or how ever much it costs and I sure as heck don’t want my wages garnished. So I’ve read about bankruptcy. I’m trying to have a savings account in case of emergency, because I can’t use credit at all. I need to buy a cheap used vehicle that I don’t have to worry about being repossessed at any moment. So if I buy a 3-5k car before/during bankruptcy will they seize it? Will they take my savings? Should I wait until I know for sure about the deficiency judgement to pull the trigger? My life is in the toilet and I know the only way out, is by saving and buying stuff outright. Which I’ll need to work a ton of extra hours to do, which I’m willing, I just don’t want to kill myself for savings to have it all taken away by either the bankruptcy or foreclosure. Hi everyone. I'm usually a decent trip planner, but for whatever reason I am having trouble deciding what to do for a very short Ireland trip in June. My wife and I are flying into Dublin on a Monday morning and have to be in Limerick by Wednesday evening for a conference. We don't plan on spending any time in Dublin. We live in a very crowded city and just want to see some beautiful open (and green!) countryside or coasts. We have a rental car. It'll be our first time in Ireland.
The first idea is of course to drive the Ring of Kerry. Day 1 we'd drive into Kenmare or Killarney. Day 2 drive the Ring of Kerry. Day 3 drive to Limerick.
The second idea is to go straight across Ireland from Dublin, making a ring through Connemara and swinging down through the Burren and do the Doolin-Cliffs of Moher hike.
The third is drive to Galway or Doolin on day 1, day 2 have a day trip to the Aran Islands, day 3 see the Cliffs of Moher and drive to Limerick.
My question to everyone is which from your experiences sounds like the better or more feasible plan? Or is there something else we should consider entirely? The nice thing about ideas 1 and 3 is that we could stay in the same place for the 2 nights.
Some general information about our traveling: I'm comfortable driving through any little winding, challenging road, we like hikes (I can handle long hikes, though great elevation change is a challenge for me) and enjoy stopping at whatever historical sites we might run across on the road. We generally like going off the beaten path when traveling, but I know so little about Ireland that I haven't a clue what that'd be (and it's the summer so there may not even be much in that category). Pretty much the title. I have a 780 FICO score (kinda soft because my oldest account is 4 years) with a Wells Fargo Active Cash card, Wells Fargo Checking, Wells Fargo Savings I don't use, and a Discover Savings that is my actual savings. After a few quick Google searches it appears the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Wells Fargo Autograph cards are a couple of good candidates, though I don't really understand what the points gained through them are actually used for.
To get a bit more specific, on a weekly basis I'm spending probably $500 on hotels, $300 on rental cars, $100-$200 on gas, and $100 on dining. I look forward to reading your advice. Thank you.

I will be traveling to Guatemala the end of this month with my partner and hiking a volcano seems a nice experience. I am not interested in staying overnight and also not in an extreme hike lasting for 10 hours going through extreme climates. So, after reading a bit seems like the best bet would be Pacaya, that is a 3.5mile hike (I am not used to this elevation gain but at least this distance is easy for me), and also a short drive from Antigua.
The main problem I am facing is that I read I can only hike up the volcano with a local guide, and I can only find online tourist trap websites with expensive guided tours including transportation and alimentation.
I will have a rental car and can drive there and I would like the cheapest possible option for finding a tour to hike up the volcano. My partner is a native spanish speaker and I understand it so we don't need a english speaking guide, a spanish-only guide is fine, but how can I make sure I won't be unable to hike the volcano for the lack of a guide? Do they always have guides there at the visitor center or do I have to reserve one for the day somehow?

Earlier this year, my dad (63m) asked his mom (85f) if she'd join our car to get there. My sister wasn't gonna come so we have rooms for grandma + her private sitter + wheelchair. Grandma said no, said his car seat doesn't feel nice for her back (she'd had multiple surgeries for her spine, collapsed discs), so she'd prefer to go with my uncle's (56m) car whose son is the one getting married. My uncle has 4 cars, 1 SUV, 2MPVs, and 1 BMW sedan. My grandma only feels comfortable in one of his MPVs.
Last month, my sister(30f) who lives overseas asked if there's room for her to attend the wedding. We asked my uncle and he said yes, no worries, so my sister decides to come to the wedding. Last Sunday, grandma suddenly said she'll join our car to get there. My dad said his car is full since my sister will come along. It can't fit 5 passengers + 3 suitcases + wheelchair. The seat at the back needs to be folded if we're gonna bring her wheelchair and all our suitcases. He asked what's wrong with my uncle's car, and she said my uncle told her she couldn't come with him cause all his cars are already full. He told her to ask my aunt (62f) or my dad.
