2024.05.14 11:53 Palebo99 Covid Inquiry: Sinn Féin minister 'accepts' she should not have gone to Storey funeral
By Jayne McCormack BBC News NI political correspondent A former Sinn Féin minister has said she accepts now that she should not have attended a controversial funeral during the Covid pandemic. submitted by Palebo99 to northernireland [link] [comments] Carál Ní Chuilín was Communities Minister from June 2020 until December that year. She appeared before the UK Covid-19 public inquiry on Wednesday. She was among a group of senior Sinn Féin politicians who attended the funeral of republican Bobby Storey in June 2020. The gathering was criticised at the time as being in breach of Covid rules. She was asked by Brenda Campbell KC, representing the Covid-19 bereaved families in Northern Ireland about her attendance at the funeral. Ms Ní Chuilín told the inquiry she was "very sorry" and that attending the funeral had an impact on public confidence. She also said she accepted she should not have attended the funeral using her ministerial car, and had later reimbursed the costs to the department. But Ms Campbell added: "Do you accept you should not have gone to the funeral at all given your role as minister for communities?" Ms Ní Chuilín replied: "I can see the hurt and the anger and I accept that now... yes I do." Former Education Minister Peter Weir also gave evidence on Wednesday. He said he regrets that the debate over closing schools in Northern Ireland at the onset of the Covid pandemic created political division. Lord Weir, a former DUP MLA, was Stormont's education minister from January 2020 until mid-2021. He said debate within the Northern Ireland Executive over closing schools created a "level of division". The context for closing schools, the inquiry was told, was in mid-March 2020, days before the UK government announced a national lockdown. On 12 March 2020, the Irish government announced that it would close all schools in the Republic of Ireland. But the inquiry heard that the Stormont Executive met on 16 March where disagreement between ministers broke out over whether to follow suit. 'Antipathy' towards Conservative government Lord Weir said he took the view that ministers should be following scientific and medical advice, which at that point did not recommend shutting down all schools. But he said Sinn Féin and Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) ministers had "one eye towards what was happening in the Republic of Ireland". "There was a little bit of an element... the situation was that not only would they want to follow the Republic of Ireland, but there was a natural inclination not to follow what was happening in London," he said. Lord Weir also suggested those ministers held a "level of antipathy" against the Conservative government under Boris Johnson. The inquiry was shown handwritten notes from that meeting which showed divisions behind the scenes between the parties. Lord Weir was asked by inquiry counsel Clair Dobbin KC how well children in Northern Ireland were being served when it came to the decision over closing schools, asking whether it had become "political and divisive". He replied: "I regret it became that, I felt there had been a level of consensus a few days before. "Others wanted to take it in a different direction. "At various levels it may have been seen as being directly political." Asked about notes provided to the inquiry about "confusion" about public messaging on schools at that point, Lord Weir said the executive's position had initially been joined up, prior to the Irish government closing schools. But he said that changed "within 24 hours" when the then-Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill did a press interview calling for schools in Northern Ireland to close immediately. Lord Weir also said that once the UK Government announced that schools in England were closing, advice from health officials at Stormont also changed and that schools in Northern Ireland should shut. He acknowledged that it was "doable at that stage", with furlough schemes and finances available from Westminster to help support parents with childcare. 'Disappointed' by text message Former Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey disputed a text message that claimed she showed "no interest in Covid" prior to mid-March 2020. Details of the text were revealed during evidence to the Covid-19 inquiry by counsel Leah Treanor. She said the then-head of the civil service Sir David Sterling sent the message to another official, Chris Stewart, on 10 March 2020. Ms Hargey, a Sinn Féin MLA, said it was not her reflection of the time. The text from Sir David read: "I spoke to Tracey earlier, she's briefing her minister (who has shown no interest in Covid up to now) tomorrow." It referred to Tracey Meharg, who was the top civil servant in the Department for Communities then advising Ms Hargey. Asked by inquiry counsel if that was a fair assessment, Ms Hargey said she was "disappointed" to have seen the text message and its contents. She said she had spoken an executive meeting on that date and was looking at contingency plans for her department as well as how to support key sectors. "We would have been planning at the start of March and late February for that to happen, so I am disappointed at that text message. I don't think it reflects where we were or conversations I had with Tracey Meharg," she added. Ms Hargey was Stormont's communities minister from January 2020 until June that year, before stepping aside temporarily due to illness. Her party colleague Carál Ní Chuilín filled in during that period of sickness until December 2020 when Ms Hargey returned to work. Storey funeral 'damaged relations' Former DUP Economy Minister Diane Dodds also appeared at the inquiry on Wednesday. She was asked about the impact of the funeral of republican Bobby Storey on the public adhering to Covid restrictions. Mrs Dodds said the event "damaged relations" within the executive. "It was really difficult to then stand at another press conference and say to the public, 'we're going to allow you to do this', when all of this had taken place just a few days before it." |

2024.05.13 23:29 Then_Marionberry_259 MAY 13, 2024 AOT.TO ASCOT REPORTS FIRST QUARTER 2024 RESULTS

( TSX: AOT; OTCQX: AOTVF ) (“ Ascot ” or the “ Company ”) is pleased to announce the Company’s unaudited financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2024 (“ Q1 2024 ”), and also to provide a construction update on the Company’s Premier Gold Project (“ PGP ” or the “ project ”), located on Nis g a’a Nation Treaty Lands in the prolific Golden Triangle of northwestern British Columbia. For details of the unaudited condensed interim consolidated financial statements and Management's Discussion and Analysis for the three months ended March 31, 2024, please see the Company’s filings on SEDAR+ (www.sedarplus.ca). All amounts herein are reported in $000s of Canadian dollars (“ C$ ”) unless otherwise specified. Q1 2024 AND RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
Project financing On February 20, 2024, the Company closed a bought deal private placement for gross proceeds of $28,751 and a financing package of US$50 million for the completion and ramp-up of PGP. The financing package consisted of a royalty restructuring and a cost overrun facility. Construction progress key performance indicators At the end of Q1 2024, overall construction was 98% complete, compared with 86% complete at the end of Q4 2023. With first gold having been poured on April 20, 2024 via gold recovered through the gravity circuit, the project construction is 100% complete on schedule and on the most recently provided budget of approximately C$339 million. Commissioning and ramp-up activities in the processing plant and in the mine continue towards achieving commercial production in Q3 of 2024. Safety The Project had no lost time injuries in Q1 2024. There was an increase in recordable injuries at the end of the quarter which in part, can be attributable to seasonal changes and the transition from construction to operations. As the Project continues its transition from construction into operations, focus has been placed on the ongoing development of standard operating procedures, in field job hazard analysis and worker training. There was a small increase in property damage reported in the quarter due in part to weather conditions and the onboarding of a significant number of new workers to the site. The re-enforcement of reporting to the operating team remains a key focus to ensure that all learnings are identified and applied to prevent re-occurrence and reflect in the future training plans. In Q2 2024, significant work will be placed to support the operational teams to begin to operate the newly constructed plant through the final stages of C4 and C5 commissioning. Processing plant and site infrastructure Mechanical and electrical work in the mill was substantially completed in Q1 2024 with minor associated systems and punch list items to complete. Focus has shifted to commissioning the process plant and ramp up as well as completing minor deficiencies. Stage one of the tailings storage facility (“TSF”) raise was completed and accepted by the Engineer of Record for use. Earthworks activities in 2024 will focus on raising the spillway dam by three metres, producing material for the 2025 raise and advanced work on the Cascade Creek Diversion in preparation for the 2025 works and final completion of the diversion. The new water treatment plant was substantially mechanically and electrically completed in Q4 2023 with some minor areas remaining. The high-density sludge circuit was commissioned in Q1 2024 and is advancing towards full ramp up. The MBBR circuit was substantially complete in Q1 2024 and will begin full commissioning as the process plant continues to deposit tailings into the TSF and feed nitrogen species into the MBBR circuit. The site power reticulation was completed in Q1 2024. Sustaining capital works in 2024 will focus on reticulation to the Premier portal as well as the Big Missouri portal. Mine development Procon Mining & Tunnelling (“Procon”) a mine contractor with extensive experience in BC and the Golden Triangle continued to advance mine development at two portal areas: S1 about 9 kilometres north of the mill which accesses the Big Missouri and Silver Coin deposits, and the mill adjacent Premier Northern Light (“PNL”) portal which accesses the Premier and Northern Light orebodies. As of the end of Q1 2024, Procon had about 57 people on site, 40 of whom were miners and 10 were maintenance personnel. At Big Missouri, Procon advanced development into several ore headings in the A zone, as well as reactivating the S1 ramp heading that goes to Silver Coin deposit. In Q1 Procon developed 936 metres at Big Missouri (258 metres in ore and 678 metres in waste, and by April 29, 2024, development advanced to 905 metres in waste and 507 metres in ore total in 2024. Including the development completed in late 2022 and late 2023, the total development to date is approximately 2,710 metres in both ore and waste. Productivities at Big Missouri have continued to improve, with availability of key equipment such as Maclean bolters being made a priority. During Q1 2024, the geological team continued to encounter high grade material occurrences in both face sampling and probe hole drilling in multiple areas of the A zone. As previously reported, these occurrences are in or very near existing wireframes or logical extensions of wireframes. At the end of March 31, 2024, a total of approximately 30,000 tonnes of ore was mined from Big Missouri and stockpiled at Diego pit. At PNL, Procon dealt with issues related to near surface structure and weak ground. These issues seem to have abated at the end of April, and Procon has started to make better progress as they move into the better ground conditions expected at Premier given what was seen historically. In Q1 2024 approximately 85 metres were advanced at PNL, and at the end of April this increased to approximately 150 metres as ground conditions improved. Mining development is being advanced down into the Premier deposit for initial mining in the Prew Zone, with ore development now anticipated to begin in early Q3 2024, and initial longhole stope production following later in Q3 2024. The ramp has been strategically laid out to allow for underground drilling on the Sebakwe Zone in 2024 and will eventually connect a footwall ramp over to the 602 area at the southern end of the Premier deposit. Although progress has been slow, the quality of the resultant work with ground control and shotcrete arches has been excellent, allowing for a secure and stable ramp for the life-of-mine production to come from this area approximately 350 metres from the Premier Mill. Recruitment At the end of Q1 2024, total site recruitment has reached approximately 90% of the planned operational team. A key achievement was the successful recruitment for some challenging roles pertaining particularly to some of the maintenance roles, health and safety (specifically, mine rescue), and technical roles for the mine and processing area. Policies and procedures development have been ongoing throughout Q1 2024 and key documents will be rolled out in Q2 2024. Permitting and Environmental Compliance A Joint Permit Amendment Application (“JPAA”) was required to be re-aligned with the project completion dates and was submitted in October 2023. The JPAA underwent first round comments through February 2024 and second round comments were received in late April 2024, with our responses anticipated to be submitted in May 2024. The air permit was received on March 25, 2024. The updated environmental permit PE-8044, including the sewage treatment facility discharge permit is anticipated to be received in late May 2024. 2024 EXPLORATION PROGRAM Planning for the 2024 exploration program is in full swing with an anticipated start date in late June. There are several areas on the properties that will be targeted by new drilling. Near the Premier mill, several drill holes have been planned around the Prew and Sebakwe zones of the Premier deposit. The new holes will complement the existing drill pattern at Prew and test induced polarization geophysical anomalies from last year’s survey. Additional drill holes have been planned for the Big Missouri deposit where underground development is rapidly providing access to different parts of the deposit. The new holes will be designed for resource conversion and mine plan addition at this deposit. Specific new drill targets have been identified at the Day Zone on the western edge of the deposit, where geophysical anomalies seem to outline previously untested mineralization along strike of known ore zones. Additional exploration drill holes are targeting a large geophysical anomaly to the west of the Dilworth deposit that extends surface showings to the north onto Ascot’s PGP property. This target has a large strike extent and may require drilling over more than one exploration season. The Company anticipates a drill program of between 15,000 and 20,000 metres distributed over the areas described above. The program will require utilization of two drill rigs into late September or early October 2024. FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THE THREE MONTHS ENDED MARCH 31, 2024 The Company reported a net loss of $6,208 for Q1 2024 compared to $7,589 for Q1 2023. The lower net loss for the current period is primarily attributable to a $2,170 decrease in the loss on extinguishment of debt and a $1,196 decrease in financing costs, partially offset by increases in other expense categories. LIQUIDITY AND CAPITAL RESOURCES As at March 31, 2024, the Company had cash & cash equivalents of $47,028 and working capital deficiency of $33,030. The working capital deficiency is caused by an estimated $23,024 as the current portion of the deferred revenue only to be settled with future production from the Project and the $25,180 value of the Convertible facility, which is classified as current due to the lender’s right to exercise the conversion option at any time at a variable exercise price. Excluding these non-cash current liabilities, working capital was $15,174. In Q1 2024, the Company issued 67,807,135 common shares, 10,164,528 warrants, and granted 110,000 stock options and 28,667 Deferred Share Units. Also, 100,766 stock options expired or were forfeited, 24,427 Restricted Share Units were forfeited, and 99,039 stock options, 137,533 Deferred Share Units and 158,726 Restricted Share Units were exercised in Q1 2024. MANAGEMENT’S OUTLOOK FOR 2024 In 2024, the Company will transition from the construction of the mine and related infrastructure to the operation of the entire site and becoming a gold producer. Despite the challenges associated with this transition, there are many opportunities for the Company to grow and create value. The key activities and priorities for 2024 include:

2024.05.13 22:14 Blankboo97 The Lost Women of NXIVM Part 7
2024.05.13 21:57 CokeRapThisGlamorous Most Points in WNBA Debut:
2024.05.13 20:17 communityproject605 What's next for the Winners of BKFC 61? Performance reviews plus their next moves.
BKFC 61 is now on the Monday morning drawing board. Jimmie Rivera claimed his highest profile BKFC win and Mike Trizano looked like the new boogeyman of the 155 pound division. What do these main event winners move on to next? Let's take a look at our undercard winners first. submitted by communityproject605 to BareKnuckleFC [link] [comments] Danny Pettit: Performance Grade- B Pettit made his debut opening the card with an interesting fight where Pettit saw his opponent on the canvas from his punches as well as the punches his opponent was throwing at him. A TKO victory is a great way to start his career in the BKFC, but with the caliber of opponent he faced he took too long to seal the victory and ate some wild shots that put him in unnecessary danger. Who's Next: Quentin Gaskin (1-0 1KO) Pettit will likely find himself on another undercard as the BKFC moves through the North East later in the year. Gaskin is from New York and also 1-0 in BKFC. Scott Roberts: Performance Grade- C Roberts made his combat sports debut against a veteran of the squared circle and won by doctors stoppage when his opponent suffered an apparent hand injury. Roberts came out swinging and kept the pressure on, but was majorly off balance while chasing Sarro for the finish. That style works in BKFC against lower competition, but Roberts would have been in trouble against a game opponent with the style he fought with at BKFC 61. What's Next: There is no one at 1-0 on the roster that I'd currently match Roberts with in the 205 pound division. A fight against a debuter on a Prospect Series card makes sense for him. Patrick Brady: Performance Grade- A Brady put on a dominate performance against a durable veteran in Lewis Rumsey. Brady landed hard and often with 5 knockdowns recorded before ending the fight in the 2nd round. Brady looks very promising in a heavyweight division that needs new contenders and fresh faces to shake things up. Who's Next: Zach Calmus Brady passed his first test in the squared circle with flying colors. His next adventure into the ring should be against the man who fought right above him on Saturdays card. Calmus brings a ton of experience to the ring and would be a great test to see where Brady stands in the Heavyweight division. Zach Calmus (4-2 2KO's) Performance Grade- B Calmus took his time putting away Connor McKenna in a fight he could have won within the first two rounds. Calmus may not be championship material, but he is the prime example of a veteran gate keeper. He has his place and will be that test a lot of young heavyweights should be prepared to take on if they want to move onto fighting the best in the division. Who's Next: Patrick Brady (1-0 1KO) Brady put on a dominate performance against another veteran gatekeeper before Calmus took the ring. Brady is 40 years old and needs to make a quick leap in bare knuckle competition before mother time catches up. Calmus would push Brady to his limits with his BK experience and show us where Brady stands in the heavyweight division. Rick Hawn: Performance Grade- A+ Hawn did exactly as he was supposed to against lackluster competition, putting the fight away early in the first. The only downside we can see in Hawn right now is his age. Coming in at 47 with lots of mileage on him from being an Olympian to mixed martial arts fighter, how long does he have left in gas tank? Houston Alexander has shown his ability to stay competitive into his 50's through BKFC and Hawn gives me the impression he could probably do the same. Who's Next? Ja'Far Fortt (3-1 3KO's) Fortt is coming off a first round loss to Elvin Brito after winning his first three fights under the BKFC banner. Hawn needs an experienced opponent to see if he can slingshot himself into the elites of the 165 pound division and Fortt offers that door knocking opportunity. Natalie Gage: Performance Grade- B Gage engaged in my opinion the best fight of the night when she went toe to toe with Sarah Click. Both ladies took turns making each other's faces swollen and bloody, before the commission would give us a premature ending due to a cut above Clicks left eye. Gage was starting to come on stronger as the rounds went by and with it being her debut made quite the impression on a lot of viewers. She would grade higher, but there were exchanges where Click was beating her by a wide margin that made Gage look very uncomfortable. With her having the bare knuckle experience under her belt now I'd expect solid fights to come for Gage in a shallow 115 pound women's division. Who's Next: Crystal Lawson Lawson came up short in her debut against Crystal Van Wyk but stood tough and exchanged big shots with Crystal for the full five rounds. Lawson can be a big test for Gage's toughness and if these ladies meet it could be a blood bath from two fighters who don't back down. Ryan Reber: Performance Grade- C- Reber stepped into the ring for the 6th time on Saturday and kept his undefeated streak alive. Unfortunately he had his poorest performance to date when his title shot was on the line. Going the distance against a 1-1 opponent, then speaking of coasting during the fight didn't leave a good impression even with a unanimous decision win. Who's Next: The loser between Kieth Richardson v. Alberto Blas on June 21st. I was on the Reber hype train to get a title shot after his impressive come from behind victory over Derek Perez, but his latest win against Foye leaves me second guessing whether he is ready to fight someone the caliber of Kieth Richardson. Does he need another tune up fight before going for the gold? I'd like to see him take on the loser of the championship fight in June if that fight is available before a potential title fight for him. You can argue his perfect record leaves him in a title shot only scenario as well. Mike Trizano: Performance Grade- A+ The former Ultimate Fighter winner took to the squared circle for the first time against long time BKFC Louie Lopez who accepted the fight on short notice after Trizanos original opponent Derek Campos withdrew from the event. Trizano wasted no time showing he might be the next big splash in the 155 pound division with a nasty highlight knockout in the first round. It's safe to say a lot of eyes are ready to see what Lone Wolf can do against his next opponent. Who's Next? Howard Davis (5-2 5KO's) Davis is a star in the 155 pound division, Trizano wants his place. This a top tier fight to make that could easily be a main event for a Fight Night card later this year. Davis lost to Louie Lopez by doctors stoppage about 2 years ago before a nice winning streak was interrupted by the reigning champion Kai Stewart. Davis didn't stay away long scoring a mauling knockout win over Sean Wilson in March. Davis v. Trizano sounds like a highlight waiting to happen. Jimmie Rivera: Performance Grade: B+ Rivera stepped into this main event with title contendership on his mind he unfortunately ran into Daniel Straus who had no interest in getting in a war with Rivera and was happy to box with him over a long 5 rounds. Rivera won 95% of the striking exchanges while showing slick boxing ability, a cut over his left eye made me wonder if we were going to see another Click v. Gage scenario but the cutman was able to keep it under control until the judges scorecards were read all in favor of Rivera. Who's Next? The loser between Kai Stewart(C) v Bryan Duran 6/21/2024 Rivera looked impressive, but not nearly enough to give him a title shot. He is now 2-1-1 in the squared circle but has really failed to put on any jump out of your seat fights yet. Jimmie needs a highlight performance to guarantee his next fight is against the champion. The way to the top of that mountain should come through the loser of the championship fight set for this June between the defending champion Kai Stewart and Bryan Duran. |
