Cooling issues? 06 WRX EJ255
First post here! I have a 06 WRX with some fancy internals. Stock turbo and TMIC. V3 access port but not installed yet.
I was driving home from work, ambient air temp ~89° F and was going 40 in some heavy traffic. Looked down and noticed my coolant temp was above the 75% mark. I opened up my heater core and was able to make it home with the temp gauge just above 25%. Opened the hood and noticed coolant in the photo above. Was it over pressured and I may need a new thermostat?
I’ve had this issue before when sitting idling with ac. I dealt with it the same way, open the heater core and let the temp drop. My ac compressor isn’t effective and needs to be replaced, so recently I haven’t been using it. In this drive home I was using ac.
Oil is @ 2.8k and looking golden. About to do a flush when my oil gets in. Last oil change I drained and refilled my Coolant System. Filled it up from both caps and reservoir a quarter. Looks like the reservoir is sitting the same since.
Any pointers would be great. I plan on upgrading and tuning soon but I need it to not overheat before I tune.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 21:36 mistersausage MWBC and mini split

Is there anything in the 2020 NEC that prohibits running a 120V mini split air conditioner on a dedicated leg of a 240V MWBC? It would have its own disconnect at the compressor and would be the only piece of equipment wired to that leg.

2024.05.14 21:15 Own-Cheek6070 Problems opening the plugin

So about half a year ago i picked up the LA-2A tube compressor, and now it crashes my DAW everytime i try to add it into a project or open an old one with the compressor in it. Now if I'm not mistaken the license and everything works trough ilok License Manager, and i think thats where the error is, as the Fresh Air plugin doesnt work neither. Whenever i try to open the ilok app it won't do anything, as well as the UA Connect one. Have any of you had this issue or know how to solve it? Thanks

2024.05.14 20:50 alabastergrim 2018 Civic EX-T another victim of AC issues, yay warranty repair!

37,000 miles
Had a really mild winter in Minnesota and didn't have to use my AC for ~8 months. Turned it on for the first time on Sunday and blowing room-temp air.
Looking up symptoms, saw clutch wasn't engaging compressor so I checked fuses and relay. All in great shape, so figured it may be one of the warranty issues going around. The dealership wanted $299 for an AC diagnostic that would be waived if it was a warranty issue, but if not, I'd be on the hook for the $299 + repairs.
Money-tight, I figured after my due-diligence and research, it was worth the gamble.
2 hours later, dealership called me saying both compressor and condenser seals are screwed, and everything would be covered under Honda's warranty exemption for this issue.
Wanted to say thank you to this subreddit, and if your AC isn't working, this is likely the issue!

Help/Advice - Buzzing sound (AC?)
Hey yall,
Recently had my mechanic swap out my AC compressor for a new one and have been using the AC a lot more lately (been broke for couple yrs). I noticed a loud buzzing/hum that seems to be coming from the glove box area and it's driving me nuts and I'd like to fix it. When I was looking online sources seem to point to the blower motor? Also the knob to turn the blower control from the head/feet to just the head gets kinda stuck(?) and won't fully sit at the "only head" position on the knob but all fans do work and they do blow cold air (it does feel like it could be more though?)

Thank you

2024.05.14 18:06 psilon2020 Variable System from Goodman, debating this or go with something more tested.

Hi all, this quality local business sent me this quote and wondering if I should go with a variable system or not. The installer is reputable, BBB accredited with no complaints or bad reviews and 17 years in the business, 4.5 stars on google (over500 reviews.)
I am all about helping the small business but still worried this Goodman isn't that good because everyone seems to love Lennox or Carrier. This system is replacing my 2nd story Carrier 2.5 15.0 SEER (I believe the old classification of SEER) system which has a leaking coil and is prematurely freezing at the TxV. Anyway give me your thoughts.
Also should I save any parts off the not optimal running Carrier unit for my Carrier unit downstairs that has 6 years on it...? Just wondering if something if anything of the other unit would be salveable as parts for the other one....

2024.05.14 18:04 RepresentativeFull51 Has anyone been able to conquer this A/C system?

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500 and I am just wondering has anyone been able to completely fix/upgrade this A/C system to where it completely works consistently?
I and many others have replaced nearly the entire A/C system from pressure switches, evaporators, compressors, blower motor modules, the burnt blower motor connector, etc. And it still will give out.
Does anyone have any advice to fix it where it doesn't have issues any more? I heard the reason the blower motor connector burns out is cause chevy cheaped out and used plastic or something. Can I upgrade the wire to where it doesn't get as hot since the blower motor pulls so much.
The current problems I am having is my blower motor only works sometimes and if it does It works on setting 3-5 only but most of the time only on setting 3. I have replaced the blower motor connector, blower motor resistor (3 times lol), and the blower motor itself
Whenever the fan is working the AC sounds like its trying to compress air but the compressor clutch went out im pretty sure which is frustrating cause I fixed that only a little over a year ago with an Autozone AC system that came with all of the parts. Luckily Autozone gives lifetime warranty on some of their stuff but still. Is there parts that I can use that are more reliable that aren't also so expensive? Or is it better to just save up and get the AC Delco system based on reliability?
TL:DR - are there ways I can upgrade my A/C system so I don't have to keep fixing it?
TIA!

I’m back to apartment life, ugh.
Hello all, I’m new to this sub. I came here for advice, suggestions and look to those who have much greater skill and talent. I like learn. I’ve had new garage shops in the past, but like has its up n downs. Back to apartment life. Recently had a heart attack and well that left me broke. In the long walk back of re-tooling. They aren’t that great of tools, but, better than nothing. So I can’t lift heavy stuff, roll out/pack out systems are expensive here’s mine. 😂 and my home cheapo air compressor set up so far. Nothing is square or level which creates a lot of set up and tear down time. It’s a small patio 5.5x13 odd shape. It’s just a spare bedroom I store them in.

2024.05.14 17:05 Mustafaxvv Can short-cycling AC be caused by air in the cooling system?

So basically in my Renault Fluence 2012, I crashed it a few months ago and had the front end fixed.. so anyways, it rarely ever overheated by my AC has been short cycling ever since, it would run for 10-15 seconds and then cut off for 5-6 seconds and so on, and that was cause the air to overheat on realty hot days cuz the fan doesn’t get to run as much. So today, i discovered a bleed screw on the hoses going into the car and i bled the coolant from it.. and well, the AC is now running stable and that cars temp is stable too. I can understand why bleeding air can help the temps but what did it have to do with the AC compressor?

2024.05.14 16:27 rpostwvu Grid Power Factor and Correction

My company (US based) is in process of building a factory in India. Our planned load is around 1000kW, actual load is likely more around 500kW. Nearly everything is on inverters (HVAC, Air Compressors, LED lights, almost everything else is on a 300KVA UPS). My basis for sizing things has come from measuring the equipment in a similar plant in US that is about 3x larger. In this facility we have a 320kVAR correction and we maintain better than 0.99 PF at all times.
Engineering group in India claims they need 550kVAR. I argue that 200kVAR would be more than sufficient. They claim that the grid power factor is so poor you need more PF correction than US. Now I'm lost. Is this really a thing, correcting PF for the grid? Also, if it is a thing, does that mean we will get power for free as it passes through the meter at 0.80PF and we correct it and use it?

2024.05.14 15:29 Makeoutchamp Pressure Pot

Hi folks, I'm new to both dice making and this subreddit (I'm also very bad at reddit) so apologies if this is already another thread but I was curious about pressure pots.
I just started making dice a few weeks ago, mostly experimenting with colors and mix ins and whatnot and I'm cool with trial and error, but I've found my biggest frustration is the bubbles, especially when it comes time for polishing and inking. I've tried warming the epoxy before the mix and mixing it slow but im just not getting my desired look. So I'm looking into pressure pots but it seems you need an air compressor to operate it properly. My issue is I live in a moderately small apartment and space is limited (plus I doubt my neighbors and cat would love the sound of an air compressor in the middle of the day). Is there an alternative to air compressors when it comes to pressure pots? Something maybe smaller?

2024.05.14 14:09 alrightbudd 2015 GMC Sierra A/C problems

I have a 2015 sierra and a few weeks ago I notice my a/c wasn't getting as cold and quickly went to blowing hot air. The temp on my radio screen was stuck on 66° so I replaced the ambient air temp sensor behind the grill and my dash now accurately tells me what temp I'm cooking at inside the truck with no A/C. At this point I have checked the freon is full and the compressor is engaging but not even slightly cold air is coming through the vents. Blend doors all seem to be operating fine. A day or so after replacing the sensor behind the grill it finally triggered a P0073 CEL (supposedly interior ambient air temp but I can't find much info). I found a part for the 03-13 trucks and some videos saying there's a sensor above the headliner but after pulling overhead console there's nothing but a microphone up there and I can't seem to find any info on these trucks anywhere. Has anyone else had this issue or know where I might find the sensor supposedly giving me issues?
Tldr; can't find any climate control sensors besides the one behind the grill. Need help before I have a heat stroke.

2024.05.14 12:45 deceased_parrot Boatwork without an air compressor?

I was thinking of reapplying gelcoat to the hull of my boat and/or repainting the non-skid parts. I think the fastest and easiest way to do this would be via a paint gun and air compressor.
However, I am far away from home and there are none available for rent here. Furthermore, the storage on my boat is pretty limited as it is. My options thus are:
  1. buy an air compressor for this one job and then worry about what to do with it after I am done
  2. use something else to paint/apply gelcoat over a wide area (probably a roller)
What does the community think? Can something like repainting the boat hulls and/or reapplying the gelcoat be done successfully without a paint gun?

2024.05.14 10:13 Sufficient_Emu_8244 Repurpose r22 compressor

I have a chance to buy a new never used trane American standard 1.58 HP 19,000 BTU Compressor. I am wondering if it is realistic to repurpose it. I saw someone had a vacuum pump made from a compressor it's 1 ph 200-230v Hermetic (reciprocating).
I dismissed the idea initially, but them though about maybe an air compressor? I don't really think I'll get it but wanted to ask opinions of more knowledgeable people. My a/c system is not r-22 and I know they are on the way out which is probably the reason for the price plummet. I do not plan on using it in an a/c system. I want to be clear about this. I'm wondering what other purposes could I realistically use the pump for?
