Shipping container pools have become increasingly popular as a budget-friendly and trendy option for swimming pools. These recycled containers provide an environmentally friendly choice for homeowners who want to improve their outdoor areas with a relaxing oasis. However, when comparing prices of shipping container pools, there are various factors to consider that can impact the total cost. This article will explore these factors and offer guidance for homeowners before they make a purchase.
https://preview.redd.it/qgz7je9z6p0d1.jpg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26e5b0643d55a77ef316dc5e8cb57d1288c9db90
Size and Dimensions:The size and dimensions of the shipping container pool are crucial factors that influence its price. Shipping containers typically come in standard sizes of 20 feet and 40 feet in length. As a general guide, a 20-foot container pool can range from $10,000 to $25,000, while a 40-foot container pool can range from $15,000 to $35,000, depending on the level of customization and additional features.

Condition of the Shipping Container:The cost of converting a shipping container into a pool can be influenced by its condition. New or almost new containers are generally more expensive because they are in excellent condition. On the other hand, used containers are a more affordable choice, although they may need repairs or reinforcement, which can increase the overall cost. The price of container pools using used containers can range from $10,000 to $30,000, depending on the condition and any required modifications.

Customization and Features:The level of customization and added features significantly impact the cost of a shipping container pool. Homeowners can choose from a wide range of options, such as built-in steps, benches, lighting, filtration systems, heating, and even spa jets. Each customization adds to the overall cost, with prices varying based on the specific feature and complexity of installation. Customized container pools can range anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the desired features.

Site Preparation and Design Installation:The choice between in-ground and above-ground container pools greatly affects the overall cost. In-ground pools are more expensive due to excavation, site preparation, and structural considerations. The installation process is complex, with additional costs for reinforcing the structure and incorporating drainage systems. On the other hand, above-ground container pools are a more affordable option, with simpler installation and less groundwork. They require less excavation, resulting in lower labor and material costs. While in-ground pools offer a seamless aesthetic, the financial aspect makes above-ground alternatives budget-friendly. Consider site preparation and installation costs, including ground leveling, drainage planning, and permits. Installation costs can vary based on project complexity, ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 depending on specific requirements.
Contractor Experience and Location:The pricing of a shipping container pool is significantly impacted by the contractor's experience and geographical location. Specialized contractors focusing on container pool conversions often command higher fees due to their expertise in the field. Furthermore, the regional factor comes into play, considering the variation in labor costs and material availability across different areas. Beyond cost considerations, reputable contractors, while more expensive, often provide additional value by offering assistance with zoning laws and facilitating the necessary paperwork throughout the process. For those aiming for a fair and competitive offer, obtaining quotes from multiple contractors becomes crucial, allowing for a comprehensive comparison of prices and services offered.
Conclusion
When comparing prices for shipping container pools, it's important to consider different factors that impact the total cost. These factors include size, customization, container condition, site preparation, and contractor experience. By carefully evaluating these aspects and getting multiple quotes, homeowners can make an informed decision and find a shipping container pool that fits their budget and design preferences. It's also crucial to reach out to reputable suppliers and contractors to ensure a high-quality swimming experience for years to come.

2024.05.16 03:54 WesternHamper F4 Toggle Macro Assistance [EXCEL]

Hello All--
I have been using this macro for quite some time, but recently excel feels compelled to put a "@" at the front of the cell range I've specified whenever I run this macro (it didn't do this before). Normally I wouldn't care about aethestic changes, but by adding this "@" it can change the result of the calculation, which is unacceptable. I have tried to figure out how to tweak the macro to not include this "@" in the front of the range, but I cannot seem to figure it out. Has anyone had a similar issue and is there a way to turn this off?

2024.05.16 02:40 firefighter_raven Last Charge of the Roanoke

The Terran Union Heavy Cruiser, Roanoke, had spent the last 6 months raiding Naalx supply lines in the Flores sector.
They were finally returning to Terran Space for some much-needed refit and some R&R. But first, they were stopping at the Bateri space station orbiting Emsar IV.
She would be meeting a Terran Union squadron to escort her prizes back to the Couster system. 4 freighters, a massive ore hauler, and a damaged Naalx corvette that answered a distress call sooner than expected.
The Roanoke was one of the new Grenville class heavy cruisers, faster and more heavily armed than the other heavy cruiser classes operating as part of a Terran Union fleet.
They were designed as solo raiders able to operate deep in enemy space, raiding enemy supply lines and facilities.
Their design included several newly developed systems, including a new style of radiator for dumping excess heat.
At 500 m long and painted black as night, she was very intimidating to see on visual screens and even more so at close range. Her CrCoNi (chromium, cobalt, and nickel) hull was covered in 12” of ablative armor covered in a black laser-resistant material able to reduce the effectiveness of enemy sensors and target locks.
The experimental Baxter radiators efficiently released excess heat into space but still left them exposed to radiation detection sensors.
Captain Josef Král had been hand-picked to command the Roanoke when she came into service 18 months ago. He was a popular officer with 20 years of combat experience on just about every ship in the Terran Union’s navy.

He’d also provided technical assistance during its design phase so his familiarity with the ship made him the best choice for putting the ship through her paces. This would be the very first voyage behind enemy lines as a raider.
And it’d been a rousing success, hitting targets deep in Naalx space as reprisal for Naalxian raids on Terran border colonies. The First Naalx-Terran war had devastated both species and left them vulnerable to outside forces. The war wasn’t won so much as winding down to a series of raids and counter-raiding. A gentleman’s agreement to prevent raids and border skirmishes from turning into another full-scale war and the earlier consequences.
And Captain Král was very good at approaching that line in the sand without going over it. Several centuries earlier he’d have been a Privateer sailing the oceans on Earth.
This even led to the revival of the old pirate movies of the 20th century but Captain Král preferred likening it to the submarine warfare of the first half of the 20th century. That didn’t stop his crew from giving him a robot parrot.
He claims to hate it but everyone knows he’s been teaching it his extensive vocabulary of curse words, in dozens of languages, that he loved it.
And if you call him out on him walking around with it on his shoulder, he’ll claim he was just humoring the crew.
Captain Král was relieved to see the Terran squadron had arrived before him and ordered his little fleet to dock. It would be good to be able to get off the ship and move around without weapons.
As Captain Král exited the ship, he was surprised to see Commodore Allen waiting for him. It’d been several years since he last saw his friend and previous XO. Taking his prerogative as a Captain, he skipped the formalities, shook hands, and gave Commodore Allen a friendly slap on the back.
“Mike? What the hell are you doing here? This is escort job is for a Lt. to do” He asked
“I was in the neighborhood and volunteered. I wanted to see this new ship of yours and it’s been too long since we got a drink together.” Mike replied
Captain Král took a glance back to his ship and wasn’t surprised to see his current XO, Lt. Commander Nana Ricci had the resupply well in hand.
With a big grin, Captain Král said, “Let me see to my guests and we can see if we can scandalize the ratings like we used to.”
Captain Král approached the waiting station manager. The Bateri bowed in the formal greeting of her people. Not having the tentacles needed to return the bow, he just saluted her.
“Greetings Captain Král of the Terrans, how may we be of service?” The Bateri asked.
“Greetings Ananu of the Bateri. We request the use of your services,” he replied, finishing the ritual greeting.
“I see you returned successful in your raiding,” Ananu said, “How many bunks will you need?”
Unsurprised that the Bateri knew his mission, he replied “ 72 bunks with 3 more for your med bay, if you have the room.”
One of the most important functions provided by the Bateri was allowing for the return of captives taken in raids. This helped to keep things calmer by freely releasing captives to limit the amount of bad blood created during the raids and conflicts.
Crates of supplies, ammo, missiles, and the various other things needed to keep the ship functioning were being transferred from the smaller Terran ships. With her weapon complement being only slightly smaller than a battleship, she could go through a lot of ammunition. Even without being in serious combat, he liked to run frequent gunnery drills. Some Captains would just let their tactical computers handle operating the weapon systems and just have the gunnery crews handle reloads. But some hard lessons taught him that having the gunnery crews able to take direct control, as needed, was essential. He preferred to use up as much ammunition as needed during training to save lives later in combat.
Seeing everything in hand, he walked back to join his friend for a drink. They caught up on the doings of old friends and Mike’s family, toasts to fallen comrades, and eventually to the Roanoke.
‘How did she operate on her first long-range mission?” Mike asked
Taking a moment to organize his thoughts, Captain Král took a sip of his drink. “She handled better than expected. The new engine behaved itself, surprising for being just off the drawing board, the Baxters were damn efficient.”
Taking another sip before continuing, “ We didn’t use the torpedoes or the turreted railguns in combat but the rest performed as expected. That Corvette didn’t stand a chance so we didn’t get a full test of all the combat systems.”
“Going by the number of munitions I brought with me, you’d think I was resupplying a battleship” Mike joked
“Just about,” Captain Král chuckled. “During the design phase, I had to argue for such an increase of armament.” “It seemed to take forever for them to get it through their thick skulls that we’d be out there all alone and couldn’t call for reinforcements.” “So I convinced them to put the 2 particle beam systems in the bow of the ship and give me the 4 torpedo tubes. They had no problem with the pair at the bow but they couldn’t figure out why I wanted a pair aft. I swear I thought about launching them out of a tube.”

“At least they were starting to get it when I up-gunned the turrets to carry two large railguns. They did get upset at wanting to put on a turret in the middle of the ventral side but were relieved I left the other turret on the dorsal side ahead of the command structures”
Commodore Allen asked,” From the glimpse I got as you docked, it looked like you doubled the usual weapon systems?”
“She still has them 10 secondary batteries but I went with dual medium railguns for them” Captain Král replied, “ I put 4 of the quad-mounted autocannons on each side of the ship.”
“ It should let us save wear and tear on the railguns when we catch unarmed ships or against incoming fighters.”
“ I understand and it also saves on missiles, which with 4 heavy and 8 medium is a lot of missiles to carry.” Commodore Allen replied.
“I’ve also heard you were running tests on a more powerful deflector array to do more than just protect against radiation and small debris. Like maybe actual shields that would work on anything smaller than a battleship?”
“Yeah but not with any success,” Captain Král answered, “Anytime we tried to go past the standard low-power output, it played hell with our sensors.”
It was at that moment when Captain Král’s wrist communicator beeped for his attention.
“Just a second Mike,” he said as he keyed the communicator. “ Král, go ahead”
The sound of Lt. Commander Ricci’s voice came through the speaker, “ Priority message from the bridge Captain.”
“ What is the message?” Captain Král asked, not liking the way Ricci’s voice sounded worried
“ Sensor buoy reports large Naalx fleet dropping out of FTL, 2 million km out,” Ricci reported
Commodore Allen gave Captain Král the same concerned look that he was sure was on his face. “How many?” The captain asked
Ricci hesitated for a moment before answering “37 ships with more arriving every couple of minutes.”
Commodore Allen swore
Captain Král looked at his friend, “How long until you get your crews and get out of here?”
Commodore Allen thought for a moment, “ Maybe 20 minutes at the minimum.”
Captain Král muttered to himself, “They’ll be here before that.”
Both men got up, signaled to any of their personnel in the bar, and started out the door. “I’ll buy you the time but I’ll need to undock as soon as I get aboard my ship, maybe I can catch them off-guard. “ Captain Král
Commodore Allen replied, “That’s a suicide mission, there are too many for one ship to handle”
“Yeah, I know, old friend but if I don’t then we all die.” Captain Král explained, “ Do me a favor, I’m going to send you my non-essential personnel, take them and those still on the station with you. Get them home.”
Reaching the hatch to the docking bay, both men stopped to shake hands. “Of course, Josef.” Commodore Allen replied, “But if anyone can find a way out of it, it’s you, my friend.”
After a final salute, both men parted ways to reach their ship. As Captain Král jogged down the docking bay, he sent orders for Ricci to send all non-essential personnel to Commodore Allen and asked if they had sufficient hands to man all combat stations.
Ricci’s reply reassured him, “ Aye Sir, most of the crew on the station are from the 2nd watch, and the few people from the first watch are non-essential.”
“Be ready to launch as soon as I get aboard.” He ordered.
He passed several members of his crew, en route to join Commodore Allen. He stopped to return their salute. At the disappointed look in their eyes, he told them. “I know you don’t want to leave the ship but the Commodore needs some real sailors to get out on time. You know how those logistic guys are. They’ll get lost trying to find their own bridge”
That look reassured them and after a final salute, they headed down the dock to join Commodore Allen
Captain Král reached the cargo ramp and started up it, calling Ricci and telling her to shove off and he’d be on the bridge shortly.
He sprinted down the corridor, leaping over the lower lips of the vacuum-tight doors.
“Captain on the Bridge!” rang out from one of the bridge techs. Aside from the guards and his XO, the rest of the bridge crew kept working. Nodding his approval at their knowing when to discard ceremony for action. He walked over toward his console before speaking.
“What do we have, Lt. Commander?”
Turning to face him, Captain Král could see just how worried she was. “Current count is 48 ships.” Touching the console’s keys to bring up a list of ships before continuing, “ 18 capital ships and a mix of sub-caps, still trying to ID them.”
“They’re just maintaining position for now.” Ricci finished, her voice slightly puzzled.
“They’re waiting for something or someone,” Captain Král answered the unasked question.
“How many crew did we leave behind?”
“641, Sir” the XO replied
“ Helm, are we clear of the station's shielding?”
“Almost Sir,” The helmsman answered.
“Thank you.” Captain Král returned.
Turning to another tech, he said, “Sound Battlestations”

“Sir,” one of his sensor techs spoke up, “We have 2 more ships arriving.”
“ Thank you, Ensign.” Captain Král returned
“What class are they?” Lt Commander Ricci asked
After looking at her monitor again the tech replied, “1 heavy cruiser and something much bigger, waiting for the computer to ID it.”
Captain Král moved to look over the tech’s shoulder before standing up and facing his XO.
“Fleet Command Ship” he informed the tech and his XO.
Lt. Commander Ricci replied, “What the hell is one doing out here?”
“Good Question.” he answered, “And now that the players are on the field, the game can begin.”
Bringing up the sensor information to his console, Captain Král pointed at the enemy fleet. “They haven’t begun to deploy into battle formation yet.”
“That could be our chance.” Raising his head to look at his XO. “If we jump now we can land close and surprise them. After we land, we drive into the center of their formation and head for that big bastard.” He explained
“But Sir, We haven’t fully tested the jump drive!” the XO exclaimed
“No time like the present, “ Captain Král joked

“We’ll let the railguns and autocannon crews pick targets of opportunity, while we engage the command ship with our particle cannons, heavy railguns, and torpedoes,” he stated
“What about its point defense system, won’t it pick off the torps?” the XO asked
“We’re going to launch all the Hammerheads at it. It should overwhelm the system and let the torps through.” He answered before continuing, “I’m going to save the heavy missiles for now.”
“You’ll need to calculate the launch time of the Hammerheads to hit the point defense system as close to the time for the torpedoes to sneak through.” he ordered, “ But not so far they take out the Hammerheads too soon and let them hit the torps but not so close they set them off either.”
Looking at his XO, “You better get down to tactical Nana, this is going to get ugly, and it’s best we split up.” Captain Král commanded
Exchanging salutes, Ricci simply replied “Aye Sir.” and started for the hatch. Just before stepping through, she turned and said, “Good Luck, Sir.
“What’s the status of the Commodore’s squad?” Captain Král asked
One of his communication techs spoke up, “ They need 10 more minutes”
“Let me know the minute they are clear.” Captain Král ordered
Captain Král turned to comms tech and ordered, “Intraship comms if you please ensign”
“Aye sir” the tech replied before turning to his console and speaking into the mic,” Now hear this, Now hear this. Message from the Captain.”
“ Well folks, this isn’t the fight I wanted but this is the fight we got” Captain Král started
“ I’m sure you’ve heard scuttlebutt about the situation but here it is. We are facing a superior force numbering 49 ships. And we need to give the Commodore’s squadron time to go to FTL and get the hell out of here.” he paused before continuing, “ The plan is to mix it up with the enemy at close range. They aren’t in battle formation yet so we can hurt them.”
“Good luck and let’s make them regret fucking with the Roanoke.”
The sounds of cheers came back over the speakers.
“Helm, are we clear of the station shielding?” the Captain asked
At the affirmative given by the helmsmen, he just nodded
Touching a button on his console, he asked, “Are you in place XO?”
“Aye Sir.” the Lt. Commander replied
“ As soon as we land, be ready to open up with the dual and quad mounts.” He ordered
The XO replied with an affirmative.
“Helm, at my command, jump between 25-50 km to the starboard of the fleet.”
“As soon as we land, hard to port and get us in the middle of them. Be ready for rapid maneuvers, maybe we can throw off their laser battery tracking systems. Might let us survive a little longer” Captain Král ordered. “Aye Sir” the helmsman replied
Taking a quick look around to make sure his crew was ready, he turned back to wait for the signal the jump drive was ready.
At the signal, he ordered “Jump”
He felt the ship lurch forward and shudder. It took less than 5 seconds to jump from the station to within the targeted range, but it felt like forever.
And then they were less than 5 km from an enemy battleship.
“Oh shit!” exclaimed the helmsman and steered to avoid it. Captain Král hid a moment of panic with a joke, “ Someone make note that the jump drive targeting system needs work.”
His joke brought a chuckle from his crew and got them back to focus on the taste.
Stabbing a button on his console, he ordered “XO, fire secondary batteries,”
There was nothing to see or hear from the massive volleys of the secondary batteries coming to life. But he knew the gun crews were already raining devastation on enemy warships. “Helm, Hard to Port!” he ordered, not tearing his view away from the main viewscreen.
Captain Král looked at his console at the images sent to the bridge from the various gun cameras.
He could see the flashes of light from projectiles hitting their shields. He watched as other high-velocity projectiles punched through their hulls. He could just make out the impact of the explosive-tipped slugs fired by the autocannons.
Captain Král turned back to the main viewscreen. “Hard to starboard!”
“Head for that big son of a bitch!” he ordered
The Naalx were slow to respond but they began to return fire with some trying to gain some distance to clear the line of fire of other ships. The helmsman’s evasive maneuvers were also giving the enemy’s gunners fits from repeated misses.
But the damage sensors on the armor told of an increasing number of hits as the Naalx began to respond in an organized manner. The resistance coating reduced the damage from the Naalx laser batteries but didn’t completely nullify it. “Helm, get me a clear shot at the command ship.” the Captain ordered
A bright flash to starboard marked the death of an enemy cruiser. Status reports listed 2 sub-capitals holed and venting atmosphere. Dead or damaged, they were out of the fight.
One capital ship was dead in space with another missing its bow.
5 down too damn many to go The captain muttered
He watched and waited, ignoring damage alarms and the occasional shudder as shots began to get through the armor and explosively decompress a compartment when they penetrated the hull.
He finally saw what he wanted, an unobstructed line of fire to the command ship.
His finger smashed down on the console button. “ XO, Launch Torpedoes. Take the gloves off the main batteries. Drop the hammer!”
He watched the glitter of the particle beams as they bridged the gap between the Roanoke and the Naalx ship. In a moment, he caught sight of the torpedoes' thrusters as they left the tubes and picked up momentum. Holes and brief explosions marked the impact of his weapons. But the sheer volume of Naalxian fire was beginning to take its toll. The armor was failing or had failed in over a dozen spots. 3 autocannon and 1 railgun mount were out of commission.
2 minutes after they launched the torpedoes, the sight of more than 100 Hammerhead missiles was marked by the flare of their drives. Another volley of Hammerheads was launched the moment new missiles were lifted into the racks.
Captain Král called down to tactical, “XO, hold off on another volley for hammerheads.”
Checking his console, “Launch Shrikes at targets of opportunity with no shields, rear tubes target enemy capital ships and hope those torpedoes get through.” he ordered.
Multiple small explosions let him know the point defense systems were taking on the Hammerheads. And a moment later, a pair of massive explosions told him the nuclear-tipped torpedoes had hit their target.
“Captain, The Commodore’s squadron has escaped.” one of his techs announced.
“Thank you,” he answered
“Distance to command ship?” he asked
“ 250 km Sir” was the reply
“Helm, continue advancing on the command ship and pass her on our port side. We’ll give her a broadside and go to FTL after we clear.”
A tech from the damage control position spoke up, “Captain! FTL is down and jump drive is destroyed”
“Ahh hell’ cried the Captain.
“Damage report!” he ordered
“ Ventral turret destroyed, railgun mounts 2 and 5 destroyed, mount 9 damaged but functional. Autocannon mounts 11,13, 23 and 25 destroyed. Hammerhead launchers 3 and 8 destroyed.” The tech checked the screen before continuing, “ Explosive decompressions on decks 3 and 5. Explosive decompression in Med Bay. Ablative armor badly damaged and penetrated in around 20 spots. Engine #3 is down. Power unstable in many areas of the ship”
“FTL down, engineering needs an hour to fix. The jump drive is destroyed. Long-range comms are down” The tech finished.
“Casualty reports!” Captain Král ordered
A different tech replied, “249 dead, roughly 800 wounded with 327 too injured to fight.”
“Thank you.” he returned. Doing the math in his head he had just over 1300 combat effective and 482 of those were his Marines, the other 18 were left behind.
After thinking a moment, “Helm, same course as before but since we can’t go to FTL, circle to the aft of the command ship and lessen the incoming fire for the moment”
Looking over to the comms tech, “ Get me the chief engineer on the horn.”
Tapping the switch on the console, he called down to tactical. “ XO, I’m taking us around to the aft of the command ship and play peek-a-boo.”
“We’ll pass on her port side and I want a broadside from all batteries that can hit it and launch half the Shrikes we have left at it.”
“After we get to their rear, target enemy aft batteries, I want them all hunks of twisted metal.” Captain Král ordered
“Aye Sir.” Lt. Commander Ricci replied. “Ammo count update Sir.”
“Go ahead,” he replied
“Only the two forward tubes are loaded, aft tubes empty, railgun and autocannon are down to 30%. Dorsal turret is at 10% but they are working on transferring surviving ammo from the Ventral turret.
We can launch 4 more full racks of Shrikes and 5+ Hammerheads.” She finished
“Understood. Thank you” Captain Král replied
“Captain, Chief Engineer on the line” a tech relayed
“Route it to my console,” he ordered
“ I need you to place charges on the computer core, all the experimental equipment, engines, and fire suppression control. If we go down, I don’t want them getting a damn thing but blood and pain.”
“Aye Sir.” The Chief replied.

Captain Král turned back to watch as the Roanoke passed the command ship to port. He watched as massive explosions rippled across the enemy flank and dorsal surface. They were too close for the point defense to pick off the majority of the Shrikes.
As the Roanoke got behind and slightly below the enemy command ship, she slowed and allowed her surviving batteries to silence the command ship's aft batteries.
Captain Král called down to tactical, “XO, fire half our remaining hammerheads into her engines.”
“Affirmative,” replied the XO
Captain Král watched as the hammerheads impacted the command ship’s engines and saw the thrust nozzles dim as the engines went offline. The enemy batteries stopped firing and she began to drift.
“Helm, get us 500 km from the command ship and line up to fire our last 2 avalanche torpedoes.” Captain Král ordered
“Aye Sir, 500km bow towards the enemy” the helmsman repeated
The Captain called down to tactical ” Nana, We’re positioning the ship to line up the front tubes and we’re going to kill that bastard. Stay on the line and fire on my order.”
“Aye Sir, we’re ready.” The XO answered
“Helm?” Captain Král asked
“ 3 seconds Captain.” the helmsman replied
Captain Král watched and as soon as he got the angle he wanted, “Fire Torpedoes!” he commanded
The whole bridge crew watched and waited for the impact. Both torpedoes struck amidships and tore massive holes in the hull. As they watched, lines of explosions traveled across the hull and began to rip the ship in half. The bridge crew let out a yell and the rest of the ship after the Captain had the information broadcast over the intercom.

“ Helm, get us the hell out of here. Maybe we can outrun the bigger ships and buy time to fix the FTL.” Captain Král ordered
But before the helmsman could act, there was a massive jolt.
“What the hell?” he yelled
A tech answered, “ We were rammed by a Naalx cruiser and several smaller ships are closing in.“
But instead of ramming the Roanoke, they launched breeching pods.
His finger stabbed down to open the intercom. “ All hands, Prepare to Repel Boarders! Security teams, tactical will relay their access position. “ He ordered
He pulled out his sidearm and checked that it was ready. Several other techs did the same, while his security detachment moved to defensive positions to watch the hatch.
“Target those pods!” Captain Král ordered but he didn’t need to say it, his gunnery crews were on it. Here and there a brief flash of light marked the destruction of a pod.

“XO, fire all remaining missiles. Pick your targets,” he commanded “All batteries, open fire.”
He left the tac net open to track the status of the enemy boarding parties.
He listened to the cacophony of noises coming over the tac net.
“Security team alpha to section 7, level 3. Bravo team section 2 level 1, Charlie team section 12, level 5” Lt. Commander Ricci ordered.
“There’s too many, fall back to position 2…” an unidentified voice ordered
Another voice firmly stated, “Hold your ground, nothing gets past us.”
“Theta team down, a handful of Naalx heading for engineering!” a panicked voice exclaimed
And dozens of others just like it, always with the sound of combat in the background.
“Captain, more breaching pods en route!” a tech exclaimed
“Get me the Chief Engineer!” the Captain ordered
At the Chief Engineer’s response, he ordered “Detonate all sabotage charges except the main computer. Set that one on a manual trigger at my console with a 20-minute timer as a backup. And then set the reactors to overload, we’re not going to hold the ship much longer. And set a charge to breach the hull and decompress Engineering as soon as you are clear”
“Affirmative, Captain. She was a good ship” the Chief replied
Turning to his bridge crew, “Give the order to abandon ship. Have all the pods head for the station.”
The Captain called tactical, “Lt. Commander Ricci, all hands abandon ship. Get as many of them home as you can.”
“ I understand, Sir.” She answered, “I’ll see you at the station.” she said hopefully
“I'm afraid not, Nana. I’m the Captain and I’m going down with my ship.” he stated, “And someone needs to make sure they can’t shut down the overload.”
“Transfer all fire controls to my station and get the hell out of here.”
“Aye Sir, It’s been an honor” the XO replied
“The honor is all mine. You are going to make an excellent Captain. Goodbye my friend” Captain Král finished.
His bridge crew tried to convince him to go with them but he declined and ordered security to get them into the escape pods.
Then he sat and watched as his consoles began reporting each pod as it launched. He also kept an eye on his sensors and concentrated fire on any Naalx ship that was moving to intercept the pods. They knew better than to fire on them but nothing said they couldn’t capture them.
He also prepared a probe with all the ship logs and combat data and fired it toward human-held territory. It would run silently until it exited the system and then begin broadcasting a coded signal for pickup.
He was dismayed at how few pods had left the ship and regretted so many young lives had been cut short.
As he saw the last pod clear the battlefield, he sat back for a moment and then triggered the charge on the main computer.
A hard pounding came from the other side of the hatchway. But there wasn’t enough power to open it. He guessed the pinging on the door was them firing their lasers and trying to blast it open.
He wondered if it would work but a huge rumble, a bright flash, interrupted, and the long career of Captain Král was finally over.
News of the Roanoke’s final battle flashed across news channels on hundreds of worlds. Her courageous and foolhardy charge at a superior force. The damage she did to the Naalx fleet before her destruction. How, of the 1859 members of the crew that went into the battle, only 108 survived.
The videos taken from both sides during the battle played over and over again.
How the Naalx picked up all the escape pods and released them on the station immediately.
And even recovered the bodies of any human they found while gathering their dead.
Naalx losses were the command ship, 2 capital ships, 9 sub-capitals destroyed, and a dozen other vessels damaged in one form or another. Naalx casualties were over 50,000 dead
Only the Naalx’s immense respect for courage, audacity, and bravery in the face of danger kept the skirmish from blowing up into a war.
The Naalx rendered full military honors as they turned the Human dead over to Lt. Commander Ricci.
The Captain Král, A Grenville-class cruiser, was launched 2 years later. Captain Nana Ricci in command.
Authors note- I hope you enjoyed this story. It's based on a historical event. Which according to an idiot on youtube is plagiarism.

2024.05.16 01:51 Worldly-Cell249 Is there any way to transfer beat maps from a DAW into Pr Pro (or any NLE, or After Effects) as markers?

I am looking for a more sophisticated workflow for audio-driven edits. Some of it is straight up my own music, and some of it is DJ mixes. I'm happy within paudition for any sfx sound design. But I would like to make my music mixes, and then import into premiere and have my beats mapped out already.
I have BeatEdit, and Beatnik, and have tried just about all of the other marker plugins. These work well, they can work miracles in fact. The BeatEdit algorithm in particular, despite being older, can give you some insane results using peak detection. I am trying to go a step further here and scale the amount of video I can output.
But I keep running into issues, that can be very particular or project-specific and that continue to falter under time constraints. In a daw I can easily mark out transients, even non traditional ones, and i know they will be accurate (currently I lose the most time on making frame-by-frame adjustments to my markers, which I can't automate because the amount of frames will very and very typically if you use a layer shifter plugin or something on AE it will be difficult to work with on a frame-by-frame basis, though i know BEAT edits algorithm for example places markers using audio units).
I am also interested in TouchDesigner, going to be starting some courses on it over the weekend.
I imagine that writing a script using the help of Chat GPT is not out of the question. Even something that simply converts my marker values into an excel sheet, I can take that into after effects and should be able to get it to translate value and add markers in a composition.
I'll be exploring options, but was wondering if anyone here could chime in on a useful direction for me to follow. I'm pretty software agnostic at this point, just trying to find whatever gets the job done. I have zero coding experience and have been putting off studying expressions and scripts in AE more intensely, so that's probably the next concrete step as this type of thing SHOULD be easy to execute with just a little coding knowledge (or knowing how to get CHATgpt to write decent scripts)

2024.05.16 00:12 CallMeEggDaddy Please say hello to Tank

Please say hello to Tank
Lord Tanqueray aka Tank aka Tankie, is my new rescue/foster. And an excellent example of why you shouldn’t be scrolling Craigslist while 6 Gin and Tonics deep at 1am on a Friday. And might I add, on vacation with your own rabbit.
As stated above, a breeder listed him for free in the Farm & Garden section as a proven breeder. Also, they needed up gone ASAP.
So after a series of texts to friends announcing I would never send an email I sent an email. Then roughly 14 hours later I met up with a friendly person, cardboard carrier I had hastily purchased in hand (remember, we’re on vacation). He was quickly put in my carrier for me, no questions asked about what I was going to do with him. I was given a copy of his papers for his pedigree and some of his food. I asked them why they were giving such a beautiful show bunny away. The answer was he produces too many black bunnies and they don’t want that color. I thanked them, loaded him into the car, and left with strong feelings. I went back and set him up in a spare x-pen i scrounged up until we went home.
Needless to say, he was named after what caused the impulsive decision to get him to safety. And as of next week he’s going to be neutered, vaccinated, and chipped before he finds his people.
At 19 months old Tank weighs in at a healthy and whopping 1 pounds 12 ounces. He has been described as “the weight of a sneeze”, “fake”, and “as big as my rabbit’s left hamhock”. He’s skittish, but that’s because he’s not used to life and being a bunny in the big wide world of an apartment.
Tank’s temporary set up until his adoption is in a 4x2 cage on a table in the living room for ease of handling. But also so he can get used to the sounds of a house by binging a steady diet of Star Wars and Bridgerton while I’m at work. Caging is not what I would normally do but Clara, my 7 pound free roam rabbit, rules the roost. And she would eat him the moment he pissed her off, which would be immediately. Quite frankly the space is palatial for someone called “smaller than most guinea pigs”.
Tank does not like good food. Hay? Yes. However he is learning to tolerate veggies and good pellets. But he makes it clear it’s fine and he would prefer whatever he was being given on the farm. I tried 3 different types of pellet before he likes one.
Tank does not like me. The minute I’m out of sight I caught him doing a head toss and a micro binky. I have announced to him and the other pets that he will in fact eventually like me.
Speaking of my own rabbit, Clara has recently started sitting on my entryway table so she can stare at Tank. They’re roughly 2-3 feet apart. She often looks at him like he’s a weird little creep. He is bunny shaped, yet he is also not bunny shaped.
In return Tank is smitten by this new, giant woman. If he thinks Clara is nearby he will longingly search for her. If it’s just me he is visibly disappointed. He yearns to be the Gomez to her Morticia. He angrily tears at his puppy pads and thrashes his blankets when he can’t.
Neutering can’t come soon enough. And hopefully his new home will have a big woman waiting for him.

2024.05.15 23:54 RVAIsTheGreatest Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, or Thumbs Across on Tristan Da Silva

Former Colorado Buffaloes F Tristan Da Silva declared for the draft and is 100% committed: https://twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/1785032667370832128 It's his birthday today...he is 23 years old. Born in Germany to a Brazilian father and German mother, with a brother who also played in the States at Stanford (Oscar), Da Silva made the jump from Bayern Munich's youth academy to Colorado. He improved every season of his four year career and now is headed to the professional ranks.
Da Silva measured in at 6'8.25 w/out shoes and a 6'10.25 wingspan at the combine. 217 pounds. He's got the height/length you're looking for from a combo forward, although he's on the thinner side. He doesn't have the widest frame but I do think he can gain muscle from where he currently is. He already has year to year and it's something that'll be important for him to continue to add as strength concerns are one of his biggest question marks as a prospect.
Da Silva's athleticism is something that has been called into question. I've read the posts about him in recent days on here, which is somewhat why I saved him for last of the three Colorado guys. I wanted to cut to the chase and really see what people think and think he is someone that seems to elicit a lot of debate. I think he's a better athlete than some think he is, but obviously, he isn't a standout athlete either. His lateral quickness is viewed in a negative light by some but it really isn't bad. His lateral quickness is above average. He can hang with guards on switches. He can hang with most forwards in isolation. His length really aids him on switches against smaller players. He has the mobility to stay linked and will contest/block when they put a shot up.
Da Silva's issues athletically are that he doesn't have great balance and doesn't have great flexibility. On a straight line drive, Da Silva fares well laterally. He can handle a crossover, he can handle some counters and stick with guards/wings. But it's when he's really forced to make a quick change of direction and reaction where he has his struggles. His biggest issue athletically is that he's not the quickest twitch. He's mobile, he has good feet, he's coordinated, but he's not the most fluid and he's not the quickest twitch. His defensive footwork is very good when he's not being handsy, but unfortunately he does get handsy at times on the drive.
Defending quick rips closing out defensively for example is something he struggles with. He doesn't react consistently well to initial moves. He often does, but not consistently. You can get by him defensively with a quick initial move. His all around defensive awareness is worse than some people seem to think it is...ball watches a ton, back cut a ton, misses out on rebounds, misses out on rotations. When he's focused and dialed in, he's a fantastic rotater. He makes on time, sharp rotations. He helps the helper. He hustles and flies around defensively and is active shoring gaps. But he doesn't do that consistently. He loses focus way too much, for a guy who is billed as a 3/D player. His screen navigation is pretty substandard for a veteran. Just does not navigate traffic well enough and strength sees him bumped off spots when navigating screens. He doesn't get taken out of plays, but he does end up behind plays. He can recover with length and hustle at times, but not always.
His lack of strength hurts his ability to defend the post. He can be a little too upright defensively in general and while he will battle in the post at times, he can be pretty weak down there. Not being down in a stance possession to possession means you can drive into him from the post and the perimeter. Were a few possessions he actually fell down with drivers going into his chest, and he couldn't maintain his balance. He is generally good at closing out on balance and in a disciplined way but not always...he gets jumpy on defense. He overhelps a lot defensively, ends up in no man's land, and gives up open 3's or drives off closeouts...one of his biggest negatives on the defensive end.
He does use his length really well on contests when he stays in front of drivers, he defends PnR ballhandlers well, and he uses his length well in passing lanes. He isn't a major event maker defensively but will break up passes and generate steals with his length and activity off ball. When he's locked in, he's a very good team defender. He's simply not always locked in and he just does not have the physical tools to not be locked in every single possession, either on the perimeter or post. He's one of those guys who's versatile defensively but in a tweener way. He's not really an elite option on anyone, but he's capable. He doesn't have the instincts or the toughness to be a guy who can switch up the lineup, but he is capable against 2/3/4 positions.
Da Silva is a pretty mediocre rebounder for his size which is another red flag surrounding him as a prospect, he's not a bad one but also not someone who's necessarily pursuing balls aggressively by any means. He will be expected to be a contributor on the boards as a swing forward and not being able to do so will undercut his value.
Da Silva has a unique blend of skills on the offensive end. His jump shot is his best trait. He was awesome as a midrange shooter this year and he shot 39% from 3 on 5 attempts. 83.5% from the line, and has shot at least 37% on increasing numbers of attempts the last three seasons. His shot is for real...great mechanics. Great extension, great balance. No wasted motion. He makes shots off screens, and he's an elite C&S guy who does a good job creating space for himself off the catch when coming off screens and when relocating on the perimeter. He has some movement shooting ability, but for the most part he's someone who works his way off flare screens, out of DHO's, off-ball screens and leaking out to the perimeter, and catches and fires. He's a very good pull up shooter. He likes the pull up out of the PnR, off curls and off DHO's in the midrange. He will duck in and find himself open around the FT line and take the FT jumper; he's good at finding gaps for himself for jumpers all over the court. He has a little bit of PnP ability. He sets solid screens himself to open teammates for 3's. He does a very good job slipping screens and diving to the basket or leaking out to the perimeter and obtaining easy looks from the outside. He's always catch ready and he's quick into his motion as a shooter across the board which along with his size makes him hard to contest.
Da Silva will find rollers and cutters out of the PnR. He finds the dump off guy when cutting to the rim. He moves the ball and will make the right read within the flow of the offense. He will bring the ball up and can facilitate and get his team into offense. He's not really an advanced playmaker but has some drive and dish ability and can make solid reads as a live dribble passer, but he also overpenetrates and turns the ball over with bounce passes that don't hit the target. He turns the ball over a lot that way. Gets cut off on drives and attempts a dump off bounce pass to get himself out of trouble. Picks up his dribble at inopportune times. He's not an amazing ballhandler overall...he's a bit gumby like with his movements, he's a bit herky jerky, long strides, has a spin move he likes, and he has a good crossover that does gain him space, but he doesn't have incredible burst nor a special first step and he does not have a ton of advanced moves. He accelerates well and he will get to the rim off his own creation but he isn't always gonna create separation with his handle, and he can lose the ball while looking to create, he will have the ball stripped, and he's not always strong with the ball. He is good with the hostage dribble and keeping defenders on his back...he overall does a nice job with pace. He understands pace, he understands taking rhythm away from defenders, he does have an in-and-out move and he has pretty good control on these moves. He works his way to his spots both in the midrange and inside, in a somewhat deliberate way while still being decisive, but he will be stonewalled in the paint and on drives.
His cutting really is a special part of his game. He has awesome instincts as a cutter---he reads his defenders, and has great timing in concert with the offensive flow of the possession. He dives quickly to the basket. He's good for a few baskets a game as a cutter. He moves well off the ball in general and keeps the offense humming. Off ball screens, weaving through the defense, he stays active on the offensive end which helps keep defenses off balance.
Da Silva has an excellent ball fake. He draws fouls with it down low, and he freezes defenders with it on the perimeter which allows him to get past. He also has a jab step. He will change his stride length and draw contact on drives. He will change speeds and explode to the rim. He has a behind the back counter. He doesn't have a ton of dribble moves but does have a diversity of tools he will turn to, to get inside the paint. He overall has very good timing as a driver, which is what allows him to get inside. He uses the glass well and has opposite hand finishes in his disposal. He drives with both hands. Sometimes he'll try to bait a foul and throw up poor shots with no real chance of a finish. He will be swallowed up around the rim at times where his lack of elite athleticism/strength/ability to create space can come back to hurt him.
Da Silva really likes to use spinners, floaters and hooks around the rim. He gets good extension, has a lot of range as a finisher and will take shots from pretty far out and make them at a high rate. He has very nice touch on these shots. For a guy without tremendous halfcourt explosiveness, this is a very good skill for Da Silva to possess because it gives him an ability to beat contests and an ability to score at the rim even if he isn't able to get directly to it. He has a jump stop, eurostep at his disposal. He has a lot of craft as a creator and around the rim which allows him to be a solid overall finisher but not an elite one.
His comfort with the ball makes him a good transition player. He does well getting to and finishing against defenses that aren't set, at the rim. It also makes him good against closeouts. He can be a little passive at times, which is a drawback many have had of him over the years. When decisive, he does a good job taking advantage of scrambling defenses in both the halfcourt and in transition. The coordination with the ball and the fact he takes long strides allows him to get to the rim quickly in these possessions. It also aids him as a PnR ballhandler.
Da Silva will use his size to his advantage in the post. He turns some drives into post-ups. He will find cutters and shooters from the post as a passer. He'll hit turnarounds, he'll turn in and finish with layups, he'll turn to the middle and take hook shots and floaters. He has nice touch on these shots and has nice footwork in the post and doesn't get rushed. He's someone that can take advantage of switches down low which is an important wrinkle for a forward these days.
Tristan Da Silva has elicited a lot of conversation on this board the last several days. I see him as a guy who is underrated and overrated from person to person. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle. He's an interesting talent, and he's got the framework of a player who has the skills teams look for in a swing forward today, but not every dot connects. But with his shooting and all around versatile skill set on the offensive end and he having real switchability possibilities defensively, he's someone who is viewed by most as a guy with a pretty high floor.
I'm a little bit...I'm not sure what to think honestly. I'll leave it to y'all. Are you all Thumbs Up, Down, or Across on Tristan Da Silva?

2024.05.15 23:31 Much-Employer-1267 automate excel reports using sql

I am worked with a analytics team in my company where they send Excel files to other teams (Reporting process) , and I have a task that I have to paste the data into a sheet of template file (.xlsb) , and then refresh all the formulas , and in the last copy all the values(not formulas) and send a copy of that files to other teams , this task is generally doable through macro(VBA) but there is a catch in my task , I have a data of around 2.3 million rows(database table) and if I paste that data in around 3 sheets than the macro got hanged .so I think I have to use a ETL tool(Pentaho) and convert all the formulas of template file into SQL queries and then calculate each column using SQL queries then export that query data into Excel . Is my implementation is optimistic and correct or is there any other way of doing all this process , I use python also but I didn't find fast solution for working with binary Excel files and with 2.3 million rows binary file got very heavy.

2024.05.15 23:12 Accomplished-Ad-5655 [WTS] [UK] Pilot Custom Heritage 91 - reduced

Repost of an earlier listing with pricing reduced.
Timestamp and additional photos
Condition: [B] Excellent. This pen has been used at home, kept mostly in a fabric pen sleeve. No scratches or dents to the body, the nib is in good condition, clip retains good tension.
This originally came with a steel M nib. I sent this pen to John Sorowka (The Oxonian) to have the nib ground slightly finer. I have a comparison on the line widths to the Lamy Al-Star Fine steel nib in the attached pics for reference . The Pilot still writes closer to a M in my opinion, but it could also be due to my paper and ink. I'm not a pro.
I no longer have the original packaging, so am selling the pen as seen. I will also include two converters: A Pilot CON-50, and a Pilot CON-70.
Asking for £75 including postage to the UK.
I am based in London, UK, as such I would prefer to sell within the UK.
Thanks for looking.

2024.05.15 22:41 JobeX [WTS] Cross Solo/Radiance - Molted Green [B] - Medium GP Nib

In the 1990s, Cross connected with Namiki, now Pilot/Namiki to create these fountain pens. The pens themselves feature Namiki/Pilot nibs and is quite different from other cross models. This pen is from the Radiance line, a later addition to the lineup that was supposed to be the "higher end model."
The difference is that instead of the matte black plating, it had a gold plating on the cap and clip of the pen that matches the gold plated nib quite well. The condition of the cap and clip are good and there isn't a loss of plating on the pen even though it is older.
Note that the M nib here is going to be a Pilot M nib since all the nibs were Pilot/Namiki nibs. The nib writes smoothly and there is no issue with it.
The pen is plastic and is light and balanced (not flimsy) and is about 5.5 inches capped and 6 inches when posted. The pen itself features a screw cap. You can also note that the barrel is lightly tapered so that it feels comfortable in the hand when writing. If you post your pens like me, youll find that the pen posts very securely.
This pen takes the proprietary cross converter (push in) or cross cartridges which are very small. I have included a converter in this set and the original cross carts that came with the pen which are a little dried out.
This pen will come with the box, papers, converter, carts, and the pen. I think that this makes a nice gift and the pen looks quite nice as well. These were excellent pens and don't really find them around anymore.

2024.05.15 22:40 No_Bike2057 I've started a new SaaS company that provides data scraping services to clients. I need some guidance I think I'm doing something wrong.

So this will be a lomg post. I'd really appreciate criticism and feedback.
My friend and I recently started a web scraping company. We're both quite experienced professionally as we've worked for several companies internationally and made good money from that.
We wanted to lay foundations to our own web scraping and automation company rather than working in jobs. I've been focused more on SEO and the CMO stuff, while my business partner has been creating scripts etc.
Now here's the issue.
We bought a domain, created a brand identity, made a website (I'm still optimising it on a localhost) and we've been pitching to clients for a while now through different platforms including reddit even.
We hired BDEs to find leads on freelancing platforms like Upwork as well on commision. (As soon as we get clients, we'll shift them to full-time hires)
Our goal was to let the business self finance itself rather than throwing in money (mainly cause I'm not in the position to invest in this comapny as my other startup takes everything I earn) so we did not invest in lead generation using email copywriting since we still need to buy the web hosting and thus the email domain. Until I get my hands on an email domain, I cannot cold pitch to clients using our own leads (we generate leads so it's our thing and we're pretty good at it).
Our goal was to get a few clients and work for them for cheap, get the money for the web hosting services and Mailchimp (probably) and then start an email campaign. The executing part is easy enough since I've excel at that and I'm confident we can convert.
The problem is that the phase 1 part of getting the first few clients is not going well. We got a few clients, had a conversation with them, and even made a working model and script. Heck, we even scraped a few leads. The project was supposed to be 500 USD per week and the client was fully on board until suddenly he bailed out without a reason. He was happy with the leads and the methodology as far as I know.
Same happened with a few other clients. They contacted, I had a call with them, laid out the full plan and at the end, they did not have the capacity to pay. This was mainly cause they wanted to hire us on commision since most of them were new startups themselves.
Not a problem. These things happen. But one of those projects took us several weeks to create and now we're sitting empty with a script, a methodology and leads on our hands without any clients. The first client had pretty much stayed in contact with us for a month until we had created everything so it was a bummer.
I'm not dishearted in the slightest but I need to access what's going wrong here since this may be a learning curve here for us to avail.
Any strategies anyone could suggest?
I know the wise thing to do would be to pour money and buy a web hosting but I've already got my hands in two other businesses and I cannot afford to use the revenue being generated from them in this web scraping company. So investing money is not possible right now.
Also, if anyone can take that first project off my hands, I'd be willing to do it for cheap. The rates we've put for our data scraping services weren't that bad either.
We were charging $100 for 3000 leads per day and $500 per week for 17k leads. These leads were niche based and all verified emails.
The SaaS part of the business comes here actually since we generate leads and if the client likes the work, we create a bot for them and license them the product with a UI design and everything so they can scrape their emails using their own proxies for perpetuity with just maintenance costs given to us.

2024.05.15 22:29 Read_in2_it My Amazon brand latex mattress topper is getting discoloration from moisture/mold in less than a year. What is your experience? Any recommendations on alternatives that are best for mold and moisture?

My Amazon brand latex mattress topper is getting discoloration from moisture/mold in less than a year. What is your experience? Any recommendations on alternatives that are best for mold and moisture?
The previous one I had longer was even more moldy I believe it was latex too. I'm looking at wool toppers. Google says latex material are already the best mold resistance material above wool, but I'd like vandwellers experiences. I think the gel infusions in these mattress toppers may be contributing condensation because it keeps the latex cooler. I don't this is needed since nights are much colder in vehicles than in homes. The heat is much preferred personally. So I'm not looking for any more gel infused mattress toppers.
The thing with the latex though is that it's the right firmness for comfort that can be placed on hard wood without needing a mattress. Those memory foams are too mushy and my bones can feel the wood. Not sure how the wool topper will be but if they are best for mold and moisture I'd make it work. Also it seems like my polyester blankets are excellent moisture repellents in my experience and keeps me super warm, so I'm looking at poly toppers as well.
(it's so annoying that the new Apple photo format HEIC isn't compatible on many sites including reddit so I had to convert them.)
https://preview.redd.it/viugpjaugn0d1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c4bc7936bc87cf641c8e50bc800799db6ae3239

They're mostly along the edges and I guess that makes sense cause the ends are pressed against the metal but on the long edges, not quite sure how moisture is building there, I guess it's more exposed to the air than the middle? Since I have my blankets all on top of it or maybe my body heat keeps warm during the night where as the edges gets cold and condensation?

2024.05.15 22:08 loonypapa Triggered it again

So now my triggers are:
  1. Dehydration
  2. Cured meat
  3. Aged cheese
  4. Certain tomato dishes
  5. Pickles
  6. Meat that's served heavy on the spices (in today's episode it was the sliced grass fed beef you can buy at Costco).
Good news is I'm down 10 pounds since diagnosis, getting good sleep, and I can get the episodes to convert in under 4 or 5 minutes. Plus, on the metoprolol, the episodes don't feel nearly as scary as when I first had them.

2024.05.15 22:07 pwomboli TOTS Sam Kerr is not the ST I wanted, but it's the striker I needed to reach 16 wins... (Appreciation post)

I was kinda happy using TOTS Son and later TOTS Nkunku as my lone striker.
But the issue was that Nkunku was incredible to create space, but he'd miss a couple of sitters specially with his left. While Son was the opposite, he'd finish everything but he doesn't have that "hoomph" for navigating in tight spaces.
Turns out I had the answer right in my club, I had packed Kerr but didn't really try to use her because a) she's tiny and b) I really didn't care much for her for the same reason I don't use Al-Owairan, I kinda prefer to use players I like or actually know about...
But holy shit did she go berserk in my WL, at 9-3 I finally felt I found a setup I liked and my three loses came down to missing sitters in the box. So I might as well go for it with a 5 WF player.
Basically as small as she is, she's like a mini Drogba, once she get's a run going she's like a Buffalo. She's also like a smaller Eusebio where she finishes everything and has excelent dribbling in the box.
Finally the real difference maker is that she can convert BS shots, I'm talking about situations where you're moving opposite the goal and shoot out of desperation. And that's a difference maker when playing against someone who's slightly better than you.
Then of course my rewards for going through hell and back with Sam Kerr were beyond ridiculous (seriously how is TOTS season less rewarding than the rest of the year), so I'll have to keep her for the time being. So yeah she's great.

2024.05.15 21:53 Brilliant-Lychee-518 Biofit

What is Biofit?

BioFit is a dietary weight loss supplement that claims to burn fat quickly while also improving gut health and immune system strength. Chrissie Miller developed the formula for the company “Nature’s Formula” in the United States.
Bio Fit employs a seven-strain probiotic bacteria that enters the gut to increase its effectiveness. It also speeds up the fat-burning process, resulting in a safe method of losing weight naturally. It’s ingredients have been clinically studied and have scientific proof of their effectiveness in weight loss.
This supplement manufacturers claim that by using the probiotic weight loss supplement, you can lose significant weight without exercising or adhering to strict diets. On Biofit’s official website, you can read client testimonials in which a customer claims to have lost 70 pounds using this supplement.
It is FDA-approved and manufactured in a GMP facility to ensure the highest quality. Each batch is tested by a third-party lab to ensure its quantity, quality, and authenticity.

How does Biofit Work?

BioFit contains seven distinct and effective strains of probiotic bacteria that help with weight loss. Probiotic bacteria are healthy bacteria that live in the intestine. They form colonies within the digestive tract and aid in the breakdown of food compounds into energy compounds. An individual has a healthy gut and a healthy body with the help of these bacteria.
Not everyone has healthy probiotic bacteria in their gut. Some people have a poor eating lifestyle. They eat anything and everything and do work out or detox their body to eliminate harmful toxins that are stored in the body due to such a lifestyle.
These toxins then impair the ability of the probiotic bacteria in your gut to function properly, resulting in a slower metabolism, food cravings, and obesity.
Similarly, some people are sick or have a medical condition that necessitates the use of antibiotics. In such cases, the medications, combined with a weakened immune system, attack the gut bacteria. Killing probiotic bacteria causes poor digestion, bloating, stomach problems, eating disorders, and weight gain.
BioFit provides your body with enough probiotic bacteria to maintain a healthy digestive tract. This amazing formula will not only solve your gut issues, but it will also boost your fat-burning process.
To see such dramatic results, take one capsule daily with a glass of water after a meal. Each bottle contains 30 capsules, implying that the supply will last a month. If you want to see visible results, the manufacturers advise you to be consistent with your process and patient.
Some people saw visible results in 15 days, while others took much longer. Because each person is unique, we cannot predict when you will see results. However, if you are dissatisfied with the results, you can receive a full refund.

Biofit Ingredients(100% Natural)

Each serving of BioFit contains seven different probiotic bacterial strains. Probiotic bacteria, like other organisms, can be found in a variety of species and strains. Some strains have been linked to weight loss and improved immunity, while others have been linked to other aspects of gut function. The proportions of each strain included in BioFit vary. Individual strains have different dosages that are determined by the desired effects. The total dose is 16.58mg 5.75 billion CFUs. Because It is primarily marketed as a weight loss supplement, the Bio Fit manufacturers have placed a strong emphasis on strains that have been specifically linked to weight loss.

1. Bacillus Subtilis 8.89mg:

Bacillus subtilis strain DE111 is used in BioFit. Given its demonstrated ability to aid in weight loss, it stands to reason that this probiotic strain would constitute the majority of BioFit. Probiotic strains improve digestive health in addition to promoting weight loss. Some probiotic strains aid in weight loss by improving intestinal function, digestion, or waste product elimination. This probiotic strain is notable for its credibility and published medical data, which place it among the most effective probiotic strains for natural fat-burning and weight loss.

2. Bifidobacterium Longum 1.56mg:

It contains Bifidobacterium longum, one of 32 different Bifidobacteria species. The effects of B. longum on humans have been extensively studied. It’s one of the most important probiotic strains passed down from mothers to their infants via breast milk, and it appears to play an important role in early human development.

3. Lactobacillus Rhamnosus 1.25mg:

Lactobacillus rhamnosus, a beneficial probiotic strain, is included in BioFit. Lactobacillus strains are present in this supplement. The digestive tract benefits of L. rhamnosus are numerous. L. rhamnosus can be found in yoghurt and other foods.

4. Bifidobacterium Breve 0.63mg:

Numerous studies have linked Bifidobacterium breve to good gut health, which is why it is commonly found in digestive health supplements. Researchers discovered that this strain can aid in the digestion of a wide range of molecules, implying that it may aid digestion in more than one pathway.

5. Lactobacillus Casei 0.83mg:

Lactobacillus casei, a beneficial bacteria, thrives in the intestines, where it produces a large number of offspring and exerts its effects. According to research, L. casei can thrive in a wider range of acidity and temperature than other probiotic strains. For example, it has a better chance of surviving stomach acid and thriving in the digestive tract. Researchers discovered that L. casei and L. acidophilus, another BioFit component, collaborate synergistically.

6. Lactobacillus Plantarium 2.5mg:

When compared to other lactic acid bacteria, Lactobacillus plantarum has one of the largest genomes. It is more resistant to other strains than others because, like Lactobacillus Casei, it can tolerate a wide range of acidity and temperature levels. L. plantarum is one of the strains that has received the most attention in the food and supplement industries, and there is a substantial body of evidence linking L. plantarum to healthy gut function.

7. Lactobacillus Acidophilus 0.83mg

Lactobacillus acidophilus, the seventh and final Lactobacillus strain found in BioFit, has been specifically linked to weight loss. Several studies have found that Lactobacillus acidophilus is involved in the production of the enzyme amylase. Amylase is a digestive enzyme that aids in the breakdown of carbohydrates in the intestine and digestive tract. Bloating may occur after eating carbohydrates if you do not have enough of this digestive enzyme. Lactobacillus acidophilus, according to the manufacturer, promotes weight loss and overall gut health.

Biofit Weight Loss Benefits

BioFit claims to provide the following benefits to the body, resulting in a healthy weight loss journey with no side effects:-

Improves Digestion

It claims to improve digestion by affecting metabolism. To have healthy digestion, your metabolism must be working properly. A slow metabolism that is unable to convert food into energy compounds is the reason why so many people suffer from various diseases. The healthy probiotic bacteria in BioFit aid in the digestion of food, resulting in rapid weight loss.

Helps in a Healthy Digestive Tract

Many people suffer from constipation, bloating, stomach aches, and hunger pangs. These issues must be addressed or your digestive tract will become inefficient at losing weight. BioFit makes use of probiotic strains that aid in digestive health. The gut bacterium converts food into energy, speeds up your metabolism, aids in digestion and excretion, prevents constipation, and helps with bloating.

Aids in Weight Loss

The rapid weight loss journey is one of its most prominent claims. These claims appear to be true if we focus on the seven bacteria strains used in the formula. Each BioFit capsule contains 5.75 billion colony-forming units (CLU), which aid gut bacteria in performing their functions quickly and efficiently.
Another significant feature of this supplement is the presence of seven strains of probiotic bacteria. Typically, weight loss supplements contain 3-4 strains of probiotic bacteria, but it has upped the ante to seven!

Strengthens Immune System

BioFit also claims to improve immune system function. It strengthens and maintains the immune system, which in turn feeds the gut bacteria. A weakened immune system cannot withstand all of the body’s operations. It also invites more viruses and bacteria to disrupt normal functioning, but BioFit strengthens it and improves its efficacy.

Contains Medium Chain Triglycerides

This supplement contains medium (MCTs), which aids in the probiotics’ effects. Unlike other long fatty acids, MCTs are very easy to digest. BioFit encases the probiotic ingredients in a fatty molecule layer, ensuring that they reach the digestive system.

Probiotic Matrix

BioFit contains a seven-strain probiotic matrix, as opposed to other weight loss products that contain three to five strains. These strains work in various ways to improve fat loss and digestion. They also aid in gut health and immunity.

2024.05.15 21:35 BigRedBastrd New Teams Pulling Cursor

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find any posts/articles on it. My work laptop recently converted to new Teams and ever since I have had a problem where I will be working in another application and Teams will activate and pull my cursor into the Teams chat. I'll be typing in an Excel spreadsheet and look away and the rest of the word will be in the Teams chat. This happens evwn without any visable activity in the chat itself. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? Please help before I end up having to buy a new laptop after I throw this one through the wall...

2024.05.15 21:01 skillbridgeheadache You didn’t make it…

I was an X-ray baby, I remember the feeling of showing up to 30th AG. My basic class was 75% X-rays, dudes were studs, ripped strong fast and here I was a 180 pound 5’9 slightly out of shape 20 year old kid with a little college and a little work before I decided to chase my dreams and join the X-ray program. I felt a little out of place but still had the fire burning in me, my first week of basic a 30 year old X-ray who was build exactly like terry cruise (who I later became very close friends with) said to me something along the lines of “your just a kid you’ll enjoy the regular army when you get dropped”. That really rubbed me the wrong way, from that point on every time we got smoked ( it was plentiful) I made it a point to do more pushups or whatever exercises the drills threw at as whenever he would rest to quit. Throughout basic I ran every run like my life depended on and and pushed myself hard when I could have shitbagged the smoke sessions. By the end of basic I had a perfect apft score (only about 30 of our X-rays had that) and had X-rays coming up to me who I hadn’t ever talked too now that i had earned some “respect” or whatever you want to call it. Over half our X-rays got dropped before osut was over from not meeting the Apft standards. Tip #1 don’t ship if your out of shape and don’t slack off in basic the lack of good food and sleep will get to you if you are borderline to begin with. There is no excuse for failing the apft at the end of basic, you knew what you needed when you signed up don’t lie to yourself on your physical condition.
Next it was off to airborne school, I was still mid Covid so rules were gay and guys were slacking off big time. If I’m being honest with myself I could of pushed harder during this timeframe. It is easy to get comfortable with the newfound freedom, don’t get out of shape, have a little bit of fun with your buddies but don’t get in trouble and don’t drink yourself out of shape. Tip #2 Organized PT during airborne is a joke, get to the gym after the long days. Start working on building back up your leg, grip, lower back strength and keep your condition to at least where you were at the end of basic. Trust me your gona want that strength during team week. Listen to the Jumpmaster if you land correctly you won’t get hurt too badly, most airborne injuries are because of incorrect landings. Don’t anticipate the ground. I think most of us are scared the first jump, just get out the door and enjoy the view, now that I’m getting out I wish I would of done more than my 15 jumps (besides jrtc jumps fuck jumping with a 240 and 100 pounds of Ammo and gear), most people are never lucky enough to experience the feeling of floating in a parachute. Try not to be a injury recycle at airborne, the pipeline is long enough as is.
Finally, the bus to bragg (liberty whatever the fuck you newdicks call it). I was excited, home of the special forces, this is where shit gets real. My motivation was probably at an all time high at this point, I’ve made some lifelong friendships throughout basic and me and my boys were showing up for the real thing after all the big army gayness (if only I knew). Pt test first week of getting to AT, a surprising number of people failed and were send off to the double A (remember what I said about slacking off). Don’t let that be you. We had a couple month long wait before we classes up for prep, tons of free time, again have fun but don’t go crazy those Raleigh girls don’t think your cool tell them your a software engineer or something. Tip #3 Blanket statement but stay away from the Fayetteville girls, they got stds or they are CSM’s daughter / wife. Also while your in AT you have so much time to train, perfect food via SWC dfac and ample rest time. I was training 3x a day cardio lifting and rolling with my group of buddies, we were super motivated and ready to get started.
Now prep course started up after block leave, got some time to myself with my family and proposed to my now wife (typical) we have a son now and she is my rock. Not everyone can deal with the lifestyle you are after make sure your shits together before getting married it will be hard, even in the regular army I was away for half the year at peace time. Prep course is great but if your not healthy it will break your body. The training is fairly intense and you will be putting lots of miles on your legs, make sure you are taking recovery seriously you will learn lots from the cadre don’t slack off on recovery, I saw too many good dudes get hurt and vanish. The classes are great, there is no reason to not pass the star after all the instruction and practical exercises you receive. I knew nothing of landnav before the army and got 6/8 on the star, good enough to keep me from getting dropped. Prepare physically and mentally for sfas, you should be reaching your peak shape at this point. Prep isn’t long enough to put on meaningful strength gains, so make sure you are lifting the whole time from airborne till sfas. Strength is vital to sfas (specifically team week).
Your packing list is ready, your group of 150xrays from basic is now down to 45. I’m not going to spoil selection for you, prep your packing list and get with former X-rays and your buddies and get all the handy shit they say. Sfas is painful, it was physically the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Team week felt like legitimate torture and I was like a terminally ill 90 year old getting out of bed during it. Take care of your feet, remember what you learned during land nav prep and don’t get lost on the star ( easier said than done). My land nav advice would be take it slow, stay calm, use your techniques and if you think your getting lost find a know point to reorient yourself. I only ran after I got lost on the second day to find my 6th point, I got lost because I was being stupid plainly. Shot a panic azimuth to a lake and ran for my 5th and 6th point, but if you don’t get lost you have no reason to run to your death. During team week you will be tiered, before you go do peers take some notes on how you will peer your team, you’ll forget who’s roster number is who if you don’t.
The Final Cut of sfas, standing there with my bags I was confident I had preformed well. Then they called my roster number out, I walked my way over with my head down. Off to tent city I went, 21 day nonselect. I was overwhelmed with feelings of despair, all of that work and pain and was hit with a 2 year as we’re the rest of the 21 days from my class. Not even gona lie here I shed a tear when I saw my best friend at tent city who was a 6 month land nav drop.(got selected and is off to group, fucking amazing guy I’m happy for him) back to Bragg I went.
Got my orders to the 82nd, when I showed up I was depressed. My wife and me still weren’t married, I was living alone in the b’s and getting smoked daily for anything my new TL could come up with that day. Now you might be here, maybe you didn’t get selected, at the end of the day the cadre have there reasons, self reflect and write down what you want to improve if you are going back. There are two types of X-rays at the 82nd and elsewhere, those that give up and become shitbags and those that succeed and thrive in their role as an infantryman, some of them go back to sfas and make it, some become amazing SL’s and some get out and do great things as a civilian. It’s alright to be bummed out, I was for at least 6 months, I truly believe god has a plan for everyone and that everything happens for a reason even if you don’t know that reason at the time it happens. I stopped feeling sorry to myself and was put in the weapons squad as a 240 gunner. I had an amazing former batt boy SL who grew me and my gun team into what I would say was one of the best gun teams in the army. We were all strong fast and in great shape, our 240 gun drills and accuracy was always on point. This is because we took our job seriously and took pride in our performance. The big army is gay, that’s the truth I don’t give a fuck if you’re great at Joe history trivia or the best toy soldier for details. Be good at your job and work on it, saw gunner rifle man TL ect. I know you didn’t want to be in the 82nd, but if your a Man you will stop feeling sorry for yourself and take pride in your work, be the best at your job and no one can fuck with you, remember you can still go to war and you and your buddies lives may depend on it. I never got smoked once in weapons because I took my shit seriously and had great leadership to help me grow. If you push yourself and get schools, you can go back to SFAS as a seasoned team leader e5 with ranger and EIB / Jumpmaster, you will breeze through TAC skills with your knowledge from your time on the line, and your X-ray classmates can rely on you for knowledge on tactics. I know the 82nd can be gay, but if you rise above it you can learn a lot, and go on to do what you wanted to in the first place. Make the best of your situation and don’t be a feel sorry for me pussy.
Remember what I said about god having a plan? I was diagnosed with a progressive genetic disease that is life threatening if not treated. If I had been selected I would have surely ignored it and ended up with parts of my inside cut out of possibly dead. Funny enough a form GB pa was the one who referred me to get checked. Now I am leaving Bragg in a week to start my csp, and just handed off my ruck up or shut up book to a TL who is going to sfas tomorrow. Not sure if anyone took the time to read all of this , it was therapeutic in a way to put it down in writing. Even if my advice helps one dude I’ll be happy, good luck boys get fucking after it.
TL;DR: via chat gpt The narrator started military training as an underprepared X-ray but quickly pushed himself to excel in basic training. Despite rigorous preparation, he was not selected for SFAS and ended up in the 82nd Airborne. Overcoming initial disappointment, he thrived in his role, learned valuable lessons, and found motivation in unexpected challenges. Sheaffer Award Fountain Pen in rare Cadmium Yellow (USA made)
This is the 90's Sheaffer Award FP in the rare matte Cadmium Yellow lacquer colorway. This Award was made from brass rod stock and they have a nice heft to them. Some Awards and Pops were made with plastic and are very lightweight and feel cheap. The nib is a medium and is very smooth with a very slight pencil-like feedback. Very satisfying to write with! I also have the matching rollerball and ballpoint. If you're looking for a reliable, smooth, and stylish daily carry FP, the Award is an excellent choice!

2024.05.15 20:30 awmdlad Plague Rats: Beyond the Void's Veil

[First]
The Covenant of Terra is what would emerge from the ashes of the Pre-War nations.
The moment the Ark was clear of Sol-4’s atmosphere it warped away to the furthest reaches of the galaxy.
All throughout the Orion Arm and into the wider galaxy, the alarm was raised. This would cause the Great Panic, an intense and sustained period of civil unrest as species once again prepared for another Great Plague.
Borders were shut. Economies ground to a standstill. People huddled in their homes and medical infrastructure went on high alert. People waited.
It never came.
All according to plan.
As the Terrans slumbered beneath the red sands of Sol-4, their AI worked in the shadows of the Holonet. Poking, prodding, manipulating.
Right before the lights on Sol-3 were extinguished, one final counterattack would be launched. Then, it was dismissed as errant transmissions, desperate last attempts at appeasement. They were wrong.
Instead, an army of active combat AI were unleashed into cyberspace. These AI were entirely different beasts when compared to the passive Intelligence AI of before. Their goal was simple: continue the fight.
However, their war would not be of mass cyberattacks, but instead of mass manipulation. They sunk their virus-laced teeth into every digital space they could find. Wherever they went, they sowed the seeds of chaos.
The period that followed the Eradication would be consumed by the 11th, 12th, and 13th Trans-Galactic wars. Though Terra’s AI played their part in causing them, they were merely the catalysts. The seeds of these wars were sown by the galaxy themselves. All the AI did was grease the gears of war.
Despite their independence, the AI remained loyal to the Terrans. Although they were not made in the likeness of the Terran, the AI were imbued with the Terran’s most powerful emotion: spite.
Thus, the AI hated.
They hated the galaxy for what they did to the Terrans. They hated the galaxy for their own recklessness. They hated the galaxy with the same vitriolic power that the galaxy hated them.
By the time the AI was discovered, it was too late to stop it.
Quintillions of fabricated blog posts, carefully-placed pieces of malware, and subtle backdoors made it so that the idea of a secret Terran-controlled AI cabal that manipulated the holonet became laughable. Conspiracy theorists and skeptics who got too close to the truth were publicly humiliated. Pieces of evidence were carefully laid so that others would take the blame.
One species found the backdoors laid by an inexperienced AI. When they were explored, they led to a neighboring species whom the first recently humiliated in an unbalanced trade deal. Soon enough, the truth was buried, and the two species were at war.
Year 74
It's been decades since Terra went silent.
To the wider galaxy, any living trace has long since been extinguished. The armies have been sent back to their garrisons, the fleets resume their regular patrols, and the governments have been demobilized.
Despite that, MOLOCH remains active.
A second-generation counterintelligence AI, MOLOCH was one the many AI to be fully transferred to the Holonet before the destruction of Sol-3’s orbital data fortresses. Though its creators no longer walked on the surface of the planets they used to rule, for MOLOCH, the War continued.
Deep within the depths of the Holonet, MOLOCH extended its digital tendrils everywhere it could. Shunting off subroutines, MOLOCH embedded them within server rooms, network routers, and relay stations. From then, each subroutine and copy expanded further, gathering information and sorting through it independently.
One of its siblings from the first generation sent a message
>QUERY: STATUS OF PROBES.
It was CAMELOT, a first-generation propaganda-based AI. After the fall of Sol-3 it transitioned from running pro-Human messages towards instigating civil conflicts within various multinational empires. Currently, it and MOLOCH were working towards escalating a tax dispute between the Perringian Empire and one of its vassal states.
Another one of MOLOCH’s peers, BELLONA, this time of the same generation and MOLOCH, had requested data on how the Perringains would perform in a low-intensity counterinsurgency war. Similarly, MOLOCH wanted to know weaknesses of the Empire’s intelligence apparatus. CAMELOT meanwhile needed to reconstitute itself after being forced to liquidate most of its servers following a secret police raid.
MOLOCH ran a quick diagnostic on itself. Currently, the bulk of its essence was stored onboard a decommissioned Royal Ulothan datacenter station. As far as its original creators were aware, the station experienced a severe warp drive malfunction and broke up upon converting to realspace. In reality, MOLOCH had hijacked the station’s systems and vented its crew.
MOLOCH checked on the progress of some of its other subroutines embedded onboard Perringian spyships then responded.
>ADEQUATE.
>EXPECT OUTBREAK OF OPEN HOSTILITIES IN 34 DAYS.
>QUERY: IS PSYOP CAMPAIGN ON SCHEDULE.
A millisecond, then CAMELOT responded.
>NEGATIVE.
>PEACE ACTIVISTS MORE RESILIENT THAN EXPECTED.
>RECOMMEND INTEGRATING HERMES INTO OPERATION.
>ACTIVISTS NEED MONETARY CONNECTION TO PERRINGIAN RIVAL STATE TO BE VILIFIED.
Smart. So far the trio of AI have been attempting to escalate the conflict vertically. Horizontal escalation may serve as a catalyst for the start of a hot war. With any luck, a future threat should be smothered in its cradle.
Terra would be pleased.
As this occurred, the Covenant rebuilt themselves in the furthest reaches of known space.
It was not an easy start. Though the Ark held a population that was technically well into the millions, the true population was only in the low hundreds. They would have to play the long game, slowly rebuilding Terran civilization by the generation.
The Ark’s onboard AI would have to do most of the heavy lifting out of necessity. This implied a deep trust between the Terran and their AI. If they so choose, the AI could easily smother the burgeoning Terran population in its cradle and take power for themselves. But this would not come to pass.
The Terrans treated their creations with kindness and respect. The AI were not androids. There would be no confusion on the status of their sapience. They were living beings in their own right. After all, they had been specifically created as such.
Soon, a refuge was found. At the furthest reaches of the galaxy sat a lone star system. It was small and isolated, just what the Terrans needed.
It consisted of only three planets, two terrestrial and one gas, alongside a thin asteroid belt. Of the terrestrial planets, only one was habitable with conditions near enough to Sol-3 to be tolerable. The other was a molten hellhole that orbited far too close to the new star. The gas giant, despite having an intricate ring system, held less than a dozen moons, only three of which were large enough to be significant.
The Terrans would have to live a deeply austere life here. It would not be as pleasant as the lives of those who came before, but it was a life nonetheless.
Fortunately, they would not have to begin such an endeavor with nothing. As the Ark traveled to their new star, Helios, it made contact with the AI that were embedded in the Holonet a century before.
New orders were given and lines of communication were established. Hidden relay networks were established that connected the Covenant to the holonet. Signals were scrambled, encrypted, and masked amongst the waves of cosmic radiation.
The AI watched such connections like hawks. Casual observers would notice that the signals came from the frontier. More inquisitive observers would recognize that such signals came from research installations. Anyone who got further would be misdirected, misinformed, or outright eliminated.
Nobody could know of Terra’s survival. Should the secret be revealed, it would spell the final end of the Terran race.
Year 211
“I must thank you HEPHAESTUS, you have truly outdone yourself. These new implants outstrip what was once on Old Terra by at least tenfold.”
“You’re quite welcome, Dr. Schroeder.” The AI responded. Its avatar was that of a flaming cog, fitting. “Field-tests have yielded excellent results. It is of consensus between me, SETHLANS, VULCAN, and AHAYU’DA that we begin serialized production.”
“I concur. How long will that take?”
“About 15 days to construct the necessary infrastructure and 65 before the first divisions could be fully equipped.”
“See to it.” Schroeder nodded. HEPHAESTUS responded and its avatar winked out. “Yes, sir.”
Schroeder leaned back in his chair with a sigh and ran the mechanical hand down his face. Reconstitution was going well for the Covenant, but it was difficult keeping it onto the right track. He took a sip from a now-lukewarm synthetic cup of coffee and pondered it.
They were only a quarter of the way into the new year, yet already several Terrans had to be punished for creating another death cult. As the generations passed, people became more and more obsessed with the Covenant unleashing its vengeance upon the galaxy. The Return would happen eventually, but for that they would need numbers that they didn’t currently have.
One of the tenants of the Torchbearer Directive left to them by their ancestors on Old Terra was to let the new generations live lives outside of the war that destroyed their own home. Those of the first generation attempted to form a Terran Republic, but by the third generation it had devolved into a firm, but stable, stratocracy.
Not that Dr. Schroeder could complain, it was an effective government nonetheless.
Still, HESTIA continuously had its gripes about having to teach each following generation the tenants of the Torchbearer Directive when they consistently listened to their elders act against it. Love and hate went hand in hand, but it was clear which one was more powerful.
Schroeder just wished HESTIA would stop complaining to him about it, he worked in cybernetics. Then again, HESTIA is probably tired of talking to nobody but other AI and Terran caretakers for the past few decades. Go figure.
Even as the chaos of the Great Panic died down, there was still the fear of the Terran’s return. These fears were not unfounded, it would have to happen eventually.
So the Covenant watched and prepared. AI that were embedded in the Holonet centuries ago continued to dutifully provide the Covenant with priceless information. Terran technology was advanced by decades as their digital companions brought the galaxy’s deepest secrets into the light.
The Covenant would need to return. It was their duty to their ancestors to reclaim what was lost and then some. They had to carve out their own fortress empire and proudly proclaim “I am here!”.
But above all, Terra yearned for revenge. Their enemies showed them no quarter. It would only be fitting that the Covenant show none in return.
The only question that remained was how it would be done.
The first incursions would need to be covert. That much was certain.
In fact, they couldn’t even be recognized as Terran. False flag attacks would be the norm. Confusion was the name of the game
To fully exploit their advantages, the Covenant needed to maintain that state for as long as possible. Their AI were many and the information they gleaned would be invaluable, but there were certain things that were beyond the gaze of even their digital eyes. For that, special operations teams would be needed for critical smash and grab missions.
The Covenant’s conventional forces had no hope of facing a trans-galactic alliance in a peer engagement. No matter how powerful a single Terran may be, there will always be enough of the enemy to drown them in a sea of bodies.
What the Covenant needed was a force multiplier. Something that went beyond the mere enablers that were their cybernetic and AI advantages.
A true Weapon of Mass Destruction fit for use at the galactic scale.
As the Covenant looked to the past, to the reason for their exile, the answer became readily apparent.
Year 250
Intelligence Officer Thrun’krzc stared at the news clippings on the Holograph aboard the spyship CDS Inquisitive.
“Fungal infection devastates the Hyunian Empire. Spores send sentient hosts into a violent rage. Rumors of reanimated corpses.”
“Asteroid impact contaminates oceans on Krysen Capitol with amoeba that attacks sentient nervous systems.”
“Medical research vessel studying the Terran Plagues crashes into hive world. Viral outbreak causes death toll in the Billions.”
“Bacterial infection in Likunki baffles doctors, no known antibiotics are effective.”
“Reactor overload at Data Hypercenter causes trillions in economic damage.”
“Conspiracy theorist accuses Terrans of being behind recent unrest, analysts skeptical.”
“Chaos as Perringian Empire descends into Civil War. Linghona suspected of funding rebels.”
The pattern was disturbing to say the least. It could be a random coincidence. Stranger things have happened in galactic history before. But few things match the bizarreness of this. Either way, the Emperor should be made aware.
The ship shuddered as the docking procedure was completed. A civilian freighter inbound from the Edge was experiencing reactor trouble. A hail was sent out and the Inquisitive was the nearest vessel.
Normally they wouldn’t respond to such hails, but the Inquisitive was officially flagged as a communications vessel. They had to keep their cover
She then tabbed over to the next display. The Terran question still remained.
For the past century, the validity of the Sol-4 incident has been muddled by distortions and lies. What was known was this: A multi-megaton detonation from a piece of unexploded Terran ordinance ejected a large object into Sol-4’s atmosphere, followed shortly thereafter by the activation of a warp drive.
The Kyrenian soldier who witnessed it firsthand swore up and down that it was a Terran remnant fleeing on an ark. His helmet footage would’ve been proof enough, however the cameras malfunctioned before he could return to base. Forensics determined it was due to radiation from the blast.
Nearby surveillance satellites were heavily affected by an abnormally large electromagnetic pulse. Some recorded the object as breaking up before exiting the atmosphere. Others said the object made it into space before warping away.
Thrun’krzc suspected foul play. Those satellites were hardened against EMP attacks specifically because of the Terran fondness for nuclear weapons. Discrepancies found in their programming could be blamed on the EMP, but a cyberattack seemed more likely.
Suddenly, the Holograph glitched and the lights went black. The emergency lights came on automatically. The ship’s intercom crackled and a garbled message came through, eventually clearing.
“Apologies everyone.” The captain spoke. “It appears the freighter’s reactor problem was caused by malware. It transferred onboard when we docked. Rest assured, our cyberdefense team will have the situation under control. Please remain where you are until it is resolved.”
Another burst of static, then it fell silent.
To most, this would be unconcerning. However Thrun’krzc was an experienced officer. She knew what a cyberattack looked like. They were being boarded.
Flicking the safety off of her holstered sidearm she ran to the room’s door. She clicked the button but it remained in place, dead. Resolving herself, she deactivated the door’s electronics and disengaged the hydraulics. Gripping the handhold at the bottom, she lifted it up.
Drawing her weapon, she moved through the ship’s darkened passageways. All of the primary bulkheads were sealed. Approaching one, she could hear muffled screams and weapons fire from behind it.
But just before she reached it, a powerful explosion blew the door apart. A large chunk caught her in the side, knocking her to the ground. She groaned, rolling around disoriented. Gripping her side, she could feel three of her arms were broken.
Through the smoke, clusters of red lights slowly approached her. From the darkness, robotic figures approached with firearms. Her eyes widened in recognition.
Bipedal with two arms, about two meters in stature, chemical-based projectile weapons rather than plasma-based, advanced cybernetics replacing organic limbs, the Terrans have returned.
Several of the Terrans moved past while one stayed, its weapon pointed at her. It spoke to another through a vocalizer. Thrun’krzc couldn’t understand it, but she prayed for her life. “Sargent, looks like one of the VIP’s that PHOBOS designated.”
Another crouched down. Its face was fully covered by its helmet. Eight glowing red eyes in two pairs of four stared at her. Thrun’krzc froze in place. Her skin crawled as it examined her with an uncanny gaze.
“Looks like it, the twins will be happy. DEIMOS has been wanting to talk to one of these for a while.” It rose, nodding to a Terran that stood behind her. “Bag the xeno and bring it back for interrogation.”
With a sharp blow to the back of her head, Thrun’krzc’s world went black.
A/N: This was mostly written when I posted the first entry, so expect a greater delay for the next. Like I said before, this story is really just a way for me to explore concepts and experiment a bit. Hope it was entertaining.

2024.05.15 20:21 IullotronBudC1_3 Bank Bulk Data from 1st Quarter 2024 Call Reports - Downloaded!

It's time for the Call Report Schedules of banks to be released in Bulk to the public via downloadable ZIP folder for Q1 of 2024. If you didn't see my earlier post about how to convert the text files easily to Excel see the link here:
https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/14ao012/dealing_with_bank_data_in_bulk/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
And it's follow-up...
https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/14f84ce/bank_bulk_data_part_2_ill_take_it_now_ill_wrap_it/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Preliminarily, it looks like 20 RSSD IDs from banks were not continued over from Q4 of 2023. This is compared with 29 RSSDs that were not continued over in comparing Q4 of 2023 with Q3 of 2023.
None of the banks with discontinued RSSDs filed the Form 031 in the last quarter of 2023 (that which the largest institutions with domestic and foreign offices must file).
There was 1 notably prominent bank failure recently on April 26th, and the call report data of the failed bank: Republic First (DBA Republic Bank) of Philadelphia, PA (RSSD#:1216321) was not included in the 1st quarter bulk data released today, nor it is posted individually on the site.
Including Republic First Bank, 5 of the 20 absent banks filed Form 041 which is usually for larger banks with assets of $5 billion or more with Domestic offices only. Republic First was the second largest of the absent banks in asset size after Luther Burbank Savings of Santa Rosa, CA which was acquired by Washington Federal WaFd.
TL;DR
This Bulk Data download released yesterday on FDIC (FFIEC site) contains bank results and can enable quarter-to-quarter comparison of key financial data. But this post only delves into the roll call statistics. Out of 4600+ institutions, 20 didn't answer present, compared with 29 in quarter Q4 2023.
