2024.05.15 01:07 Epsilon176 Tw: medical trauma mentioned. Resolution for 2024: reducing every type of pain, so I could live and *walk*. I took a risk and succeeded :)

TDR: Years of neglect and medical errors had brought me to the edge. I have taken my physical and mental health seriously. Most of the pain has had its treatment, but the fight is not over. The newest doctor gave hope with medicines that finally worked. Please, seek help everywhere, if you need one. I would like to bring hope with my story.
I promised myself that this would be the last year of suffering. And I was right. I have struggled with chronic pain of unknown cause since I was a very young child. Doctors ignored my symptoms for years, refused to examine me thoroughly and some told me I was seriously ill, which led to my condition getting even worse.
I was fed up with the doctors, but I didn't give up. I stopped all the drugs that were harming me despite their objections (I don't recommend coming off medication for no reason). I was doing everything they advised me against, mainly exercising and started my big dream. Little, everyday running. For two years my condition improved significantly.
Unfortunately, a year ago it all went downhill. I dropped out of college in senior year. In the autumn my intestines stopped working, I couldn't eat or drink anything without horrible pain. I have a strong survival instinct, so I ate minimally at best, trying to adjust to the pain. The doctors refused to treat me again, saying that the results were clean after all, so there was nothing they can do, no diagnose, no treatment. For them, a person who is obese and swollen doesn't look like they haven't eaten healthy anything for days, yeah? Changing again, problem solved.
In January I couldn't flex my muscles, I was lying down all day. I wasn't even able to hold a sitting position. My muscles went numb more often, I fell suddenly on the floor with a spasm more often. The rate of inflammation in the body kept rising. It felt as if my muscles were bursting from the pressure. I barely talk. I have taken two painkillers per day. Some said depression, others muscle atrophy. Doctors said I am not able to work, could end up in a wheelchair or a hospice. After despair came motivation. My rage was indescribable. I had to choose between eating and paying the doctors. I couldn't eat anyway, so I choose the doctors, because I didn't want to live in it one more day. Temporary hunger in comparison to this pain (8-9 in pain scale) was nothing.
A newest doctor so far have figured out I did not have muscle problems but around joint issue, possible others. A month passed after the 3rd change of medication. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's working! I am no longer bed-bound. It's the third day I can last as long as five minutes on the crosstrainer. I can walk the dog. I can sleep, sit, comb my hair, dress, prepare meals, wash dishes. I try to eat. I no longer have to crawl to the bathroom. No more unexpected falling on the floor in home or public spaces. The most troublesome symptoms of CPTSD have gone into remission too. I learn to scream and cry. I don't have migraines cutting off my senses so often. I don't have hallucinations, night terrors anymore, mostly zero nightmares. Of course, I am still severely limited and bad days happen, but I have regained the will to be happy and wait for tomorrow. I wonder for how long tho...

from PM Pashinyan's speech at Copenhagen Democracy Summit:

PASHINYAN: Democracy has indeed become a reality in Armenia. Before the 2018 Velvet Revolution, massive electoral frauds were the usual companion of elections in Armenia. There was no trust among the citizens that there was a real chance for them to elect the government.
Now the situation is totally different; citizens know that they are powerful enough to decide. The two general elections that were held in Armenia after the Velvet Revolution have been acknowledged as democratic, free, and competitive both by the Armenian society and the international community.
Armenia made huge progress in strengthening the democratic institutions, an achievement reflected in reputable democracy indexes:
(a) Now we are the 43rd in the Reporters Without Borders’ Freedom of Speech index, compared to 79th place in 2017.
(b) Categorized as having partially free internet in 2017 by Freedom House, now we enjoy the status of a country with free internet.
(c) In Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, Armenia is now 62nd instead of 107th in 2017.
(d) In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s democracy index we are 84th compared to 111th in 2017.
In order to assess this progress, it's essential to note that alongside democratic reforms, Armenia has been contending with external security challenges: the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan's invasion of Armenia in 2021 and 2022 and the occupation of over 200 km2 amid inaction by [Russia's] CSTO, the forced displacement of over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, have cast doubts among Armenian citizens weather democracy is the right choice. So, democracy needs to prove its efficiency while dealing with security, economic and humanitarian challenges.
We are pleased with the deployment of EU monitoring mission alongside the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and we welcome EU’s decision to expand its capacity. On the other hand, we hope for the inclusion of Armenia into the European Peace Facility and in this regard, we rely on the support of all EU member states [Hungary].
A new set of commitments aimed at strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience, state institutions, and addressing the humanitarian needs of refugees has been taken on by the European Union and United States during the high-level meeting on April 5 in Brussels. The rapid and effective implementation of those commitments is of utmost importance.
Despite all the challenges, we believe that the real and most aspiring companion for democracy is lasting and sustainable peace. My government took the share of its responsibility for this. Recently we reached an agreement with Azerbaijan to launch the delimitation of our interstate borders on the basis of the Almaty Declaration of 1991. That means that during the delimitation we should simply reproduce the Soviet-era administrative borders. This is the implementation of the agreement reached in Prague in 2022. Now it is time to incorporate and reflect those agreements in the peace treaty and have it signed.
Another key point for our regional stability is the «Crossroads of Peace», project, initiated by my government. This project implies that Armenia and Azerbaijan restore and open transport and other communications in accordance with the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass, and comply with the principles of equality and reciprocity. These elements of the concept were agreed upon during the July 2023 meeting with Ilham Aliyev and Charles Michel. //

... Politico reporter's Q&A with Pashinyan

REPORTER: [Ex-NATO leader] Anders Fogh Rasmussen called your neighbor an autocracy. You are in a very difficult geopolitical and geographical position. How do you solve the security problem in that environment?
PASHINYAN: I would not like to comment on the internal situation of our neighboring countries. Democracy fully corresponds to the mentality of our people. It is a strategy for our government, it is our political belief, it is also our political identity. The members of our political team have spent most of their lives fighting for democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of speech. Now we have the opportunity to realize all these values in our country.
The security situation was complicated because of the regional and global situation; the world order is collapsing at the moment. My assessment is, and I have had occasion to say this publicly, that the 2020 war was a prelude to further developments. And now the main issue is security.
What is our strategic point of view, how are we going to guarantee the security of our country? Recently, I gave a speech in our parliament, where I said that the most important tool for ensuring security is a foreign policy based on legitimacy. This is the reason why we so often speak about the 1991 Almaty Declaration.
It is very important that during the 2022 Prague meeting, two very important agreements were reached. Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty on the basis of the Almaty Declaration and will use it as the basis for the border demarcation. This is the reason why I said that we are not drawing a new border, we just need to reproduce the existing one on the ground. This process is happening right now, and I hope that we will continue it steadfastly.
REPORTER: The border conflict that has occurred in recent years has had a negative impact on relations with Russia and Russia's role for Armenia. What would you say about this?
PASHINYAN: Armenia is a member of CSTO. We are officially a CSTO member, but I have announced that we have frozen our participation.
REPORTER: So are you still a member or...?
PASHINYAN: It is a matter for further discussion, but it is very important to record the current situation. A crisis arose in our relations after Azerbaijani troops invaded Armenia, and according to CSTO procedures, the Organization and its member states had to support Armenia in this situation. But even after the formal application, the CSTO refused to take any concrete steps, and in fact, that is the main reason for freezing our participation in the CSTO at all levels.
REPORTER: Do you expect the West to occupy the current vacuum and ensure your security?
PASHINYAN: We are diversifying our foreign relations in all spheres. Now we are developing defense cooperation with India, France, and other countries. We have a certain cooperation with the European Union because as I mentioned, we are happy about the deployment of the EU Civilian Observation Mission on the border. It is a civilian mission but in a way, it is a new factor for the security of our region. This is the first time that the European Union participates in the security agenda of Armenia.
REPORTER: Would you like to become an EU member?
PASHINYAN: We are waiting for the EU's decision to include Armenia in the European Peace Facility. We also hope to start visa liberalization negotiations, and last year I announced in the European Parliament that Armenia is ready to be as close to the European Union as the European Union deems it possible. This is our position.
REPORTER: Can you elaborate on what initiatives Armenia is taking in the fight against corruption?
PASHINYAN: We have made huge progress but have not eradicated corruption from Armenia. We must continue to be persistent in the agenda of democratic reforms. This is the reason why cooperation with the European Union is of utmost importance for us because today the European Union is our main partner in the implementation of our democratic reform agenda. We hope that the European Union, as well as the USA, will increase their support to Armenia in the implementation of democratic reforms, because, as I said, democracy is a strategy for us.
By the way, in 2019 we started a Strategic Dialogue with the USA, and today we see the strengthening of our cooperation with the European Union. We recently had a tripartite meeting with the participation of the USA, EU, and Armenia. It was an unprecedented format, where we adopted a huge agenda of institutional and economic reforms. It is also very important that we receive more tangible support from the EU and the US to address the humanitarian needs of the Nagorno Karabakh refugees because it is a very sensitive and emotional issue for us.
REPORTER: In which year would you like Armenia to become a member of the EU?
PASHINYAN: This year [as soon as possible]. //

former regime continues to hold protests and briefly shut down roads in Yerevan with demands for PM Pashinyan's resignation

ԳԼՈՒԽ 1
Dozens of participants were detained and released the same day for blocking roads. The detentions decreased from 170 on Monday to ~63 on Tuesday. They want Pashinyan to resign or to be impeached. The protest organizers visited universities to gather student supporters, some of whom joined them with a dance. The organizers also stopped by at a bakery where they were given free food.
A felony investigation was launched after a police vehicle, "with the sirens on", struck a reporter on the street. In another instance, an investigation was launched against a protester who brought a long sword. One other case was launched over alleged threats made on Facebook by a Galstanyan fan who wants scores of people to be beaten in dalans and exiled from Armenia, "մենակ էտ դեպքում էս սրբազան հողը կմաքրվի էս տեսակ շան ծնունդներից, ուրիշ ձև չկա!!!!"
ԳԼՈՒԽ 2
A ruling faction member of Yerevan City Council complained about "harassment" by opposition figures who are attempting to convince ruling party members to join the protests and the impeachment.
RULING MEMBER: That is not how it works. No one will join you with that conduct. People will join if they see you have a legitimate agenda with trustworthy leaders. Instead, you are "ethnically cleansing" the citizens of Armenia [referring to one opposition speaker telling non-Armenians to leave] և հեռու չէ են օրը երբ դուք գուցե ասեք որ հայ լինելու համար պետք է Հայկ նահապետից տեղեկանք բերել: //

Yesterday the protest co-organizer Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan said he received a report suggesting that the Deputy Rector of Yerevan State University supposedly urged deans and others to retaliate against students who joined the protests. Galstanyan said he was unsure whether the report was true, but decided to read it out loud anyway. On Tuesday he rallied his supporters to the backyard of the University where he demanded to speak with the Deputy Rector for clarification.
The Deputy Rector went downstairs and greeted Galstanyan, who shook her hand but wouldn't let it go for an uncomfortably long period, prompting her to ask him to let go of her hand. The Deputy Rector declared that whatever Galstanyan read about her was a defamatory lie.
GALSTANYAN: I never believed it myself.
DEPUTY RECTOR: Then you should not have said out loud something you did not believe.
GALSTANYAN: Listen, there is a recorded fact...
DEPUTY RECTOR: Where is that "recorded fact"?
GALSTANYAN: It was on the media. As I said yesterday, I had no verification that it was true, which is why we came here to clarify it. If it's false, then I apologize.
DEPUTY RECTOR: Thank you. //
The Deputy Rector urged the protest organizers not to enter the building or disrupt the classes, and that "anyone who wants to follow you can follow you, anyone who wants to stay in classrooms should stay in classrooms".
The angry Deputy Rector left. Another university official criticized Galstanyan for not checking the information before reading it to his followers. Galstanyan said he stands behind his words, and that he was "just reading what was on the media", but reiterated that he had no intention to insult the Deputy Rector.
ԳԼՈՒԽ 4
Galstanyan and his supporters visited the monument dedicated to Operation Nemesis. He praised the figures behind Nemesis for "assuming personal responsibility". In front of the crowd, Galstanyan introduced Hambig Sassounian who recently joined his movement. He pointed to the Nemesis monument and said Sassounian is "one of the successors, one of the brightest people." In related news, on Sunday a ruling faction MP complained about receiving death threats with reference to Operation Nemesis.
ԳԼՈՒԽ 5
DANIEL IOANNESIAN (NGO chief): When this protest dies down, we need to discuss the following: (1) The transparency of political and media funding. There are some regulations in place, but they are incomplete and easily bypassed. For example, I'd like to know who paid for Archbishop Galstanyan's giant stage in Republic Square. In 2018 Pashinyan organized a fundraising for it and disclosed a detailed report. (2) Should the media organizations that do not respect the rules of financial transparency enjoy all the mechanisms for the protection of journalists? (3) Are the customs authorities confident that the church is not facilitating the business activities of certain figures disguised as donations? (4) Is it fair for the church and clergy members not to pay taxes? Should they be able to have a Bently and LX570 without paying taxes? [The "Bentley" is based on a true story.]

Archbishop's fans spotted Miss Armenia 2003 and a H1 host Lusine Tovmasyan drinking a coffee at a Yerevan café and approached her.
PROTESTER: (unintelligable)
LUSINE: I was here drinking coffee yesterday, and a year before that.

The law will require organizations receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as “agents of foreign influence” or face crippling fines.
The bill will be sent to the President who is expected to veto it, but her veto is expected to be overruled by the parliamentary majority later.
Georgian PM Kobakhidze had an "honest conversation" with U.S. deputy foreign minister James O'Brien, telling him that the Georgian government is interested in deepening the partnership with the U.S., "which requires mutual efforts and relations based on fairness."
James O'Brien demanded to speak with the manager - Bidza Ivanishvili. The latter refused to meet O'Brien, saying he won't hold any meetings under "blackmail".
The White House said the U.S. will review its relations with Georgia if the bill becomes law.

2024.05.14 23:16 cyberprincessqq What is Cryptojacking?

What is Cryptojacking?
https://preview.redd.it/08skvfu9kg0d1.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=db2e289ffb43017d7ef087b460e4382c9a65e830
Cryptojacking, a cyberattack type, occurs when hackers leverage a device’s computational power without the owner’s consent. It is deployed through malicious software (malware) that infects your devices, aiming to utilize them for cryptocurrency mining. The prevalence of this issue surged during the 2017 crypto surge, with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies’ values soaring, turning crypto mining into a lucrative venture.
The goal of cryptojacking is to utilize a device’s computational resources (usually processors or graphic processors) for cryptocurrency mining without the owner’s consent. Attackers aim to earn cryptocurrency through the resources consumed in the mining process, which can potentially become a lucrative source of income for them in the long term.
Let’s consider how this process typically works:
Infection: The attacker inserts malicious code into a website, online advertisement, or email attachment. Upon clicking on the infected content, the code activates and infects the user’s device.
Mining Script: The inserted code includes a mining script, typically for a cryptocurrency like Monero, which uses the device’s processing power to mine coins.
Resource Utilization: The mining script operates discreetly, utilizing the device’s CPU or GPU resources to solve complex mathematical problems necessary for cryptocurrency mining.
Mining Rewards: Any cryptocurrency mined is directed to the attacker’s wallet, providing them with a revenue stream while consuming the victim’s resources and electricity.
Detection: Detecting cryptojacking can be challenging as it often doesn’t cause noticeable performance issues. However, victims might observe slower device performance, increased heat generation, or higher energy bills.
Cryptojacking is an integral part of modern cyberthreats, and understanding its mechanisms and defenses is key to staying safe in the digital world.

Types of Cryptojacking

There are several main types of cryptojacking, each using different methods to execute the attack and profit from cryptocurrency mining without the device owner’s consent. Some of the most common types of cryptojacking include:

Browser-based Cryptojacking:

  • JavaScript Mining: Hackers embed malicious JavaScript code directly into web pages or advertisements. Visitors to these pages automatically start the mining process on their devices when they open such pages.
  • Browser Extension Usage: Attackers create malicious browser extensions that can automatically initiate the mining process on the user's device.

Malware-based Cryptojacking:

  • Using Malware: Attackers infect computers and other devices with viruses or malware that then initiate the mining process without the owner's knowledge.
  • Script Execution at Startup: Some malware automatically launches the mining process upon device startup, thereby concealing its activity from the user.
Both forms of cryptojacking pose risks to victims, potentially resulting in higher energy costs, diminished device functionality, and, in certain instances, lasting hardware impairment caused by excessive heat.

The Impact of Cryptojacking on Infected Computers

Cryptojacking can have several negative impacts on an infected computer.
Increased Energy Consumption: Cryptojacking significantly increases the energy consumption of infected computers. The mining process requires substantial computational resources, leading to higher electricity bills for users.
Decreased Performance: The malicious code executing the mining process consumes the device’s computational power, resulting in decreased overall performance. Users may experience slower application response times and general system sluggishness.
Overheating and Hardware Damage: Intensive resource usage without adequate ventilation and cooling can cause components to overheat. This poses a risk of hardware damage, including processors, graphic cards, and other critical elements.
Loss of Confidentiality and Security: Certain forms of cryptojacking may open backdoors for additional attacks or enable the theft of confidential information. This jeopardizes user data security and privacy.
Financial Losses: Besides increased energy consumption, cryptojacking can lead to financial losses due to higher electricity bills and potential costs for repairing or replacing damaged hardware.
The comprehensive impact of cryptojacking on a computer depends on various factors, including the intensity of the attack, the device’s resource capabilities, and the security measures taken by the user.

Security for Miners: detecting and preventing cryptojacking

Detection and prevention of cryptojacking require a combination of technical measures and user awareness. Here are some methods for detecting and preventing cryptojacking:
Use Antivirus Software: Install reliable antivirus software with capabilities to detect malicious scripts and programs associated with cryptojacking. Regularly update virus signature databases.
Monitor Resources: Track the resource usage of your computer or device. If there is an unexplained increase in CPU or GPU load, check the system for malicious scripts.
Block Unauthorized Domains: Use software to block access to known domains and IP addresses associated with cryptojacking. This helps prevent the loading of malicious scripts.
Update Software: Regularly update operating systems, browsers, and other software to the latest versions. Vulnerabilities in outdated software versions can be exploited by attackers to inject cryptojacking scripts.
Beware of Phishing: Be cautious when opening emails, files, and links from unknown sources. Phishing attacks can be used to distribute malicious scripts.
Use Ad-Blocking Extensions: Consider using ad-blocking extensions in your browsers. Some of them can automatically block scripts used for cryptojacking.
Enhance Cloud Security: If you use cloud resources, ensure enhanced security measures. Use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and monitor activity to detect suspicious actions
Following these tips will help miners strengthen their protection against potential security threats and keep their assets and data safe. Remember the importance of being vigilant and responding to threats in the cryptocurrency environment.

Conclusion

In summary, cryptojacking remains a major concern in 2024, with cybercriminals persistently taking advantage of unaware users’ devices for mining cryptocurrencies. The development of this harmful activity highlights the critical need for strong cybersecurity protocols. With attackers adopting more advanced methods like fileless malware and precise attacks, it’s crucial for users to stay alert and enforce solid security practices. This involves keeping software updated, utilizing trusted antivirus software, and exercising caution when encountering dubious links or downloads. Use only proven mining software, customize your miners according to the guides to make sure they work properly.

Have a safe mining!

2024.05.14 22:40 adamr_z How We Acquired Our First 50 Users for the consumer app FitHero.ai

Hey fellow entrepreneurs!
My co-founder and I were recently successful in acquiring 50 people to the private beta of our new consumer fitness/gaming app FitHero.ai so I figured I'd share what worked for us in case it helps others.
First, a little background...
The idea for FitHero.ai was born out of a desire to apply gamified techniques to the health and fitness journey.
Fitness can often feel like a grind, with progress taking time to become visible. We wanted to create an app that helps users see and feel improvements, even when they’re not immediately noticeable in real life.
Additionally, we wanted to leverage AI to provide a unique, interactive experience that benefits users’ fitness journeys.
I remember one day at the gym, feeling frustrated with my progress, and thinking, "There has to be a way to make this more fun and engaging."
That's when the idea of battling AI-driven villains as part of a fitness routine really clicked for me.
Actionable Step: Define Your Inspiration and Goal
Defining Our Target Audience
As someone deeply involved in health and fitness, with notable achievements in CrossFit and a lifelong passion for gaming, I built FitHero.ai for people like me.
This approach ensured that the app met the needs of our initial user base effectively. I figured if it was something I would use and enjoy, there would be others out there just like me.
For consumer-focused startups, especially those being bootstrapped, I believe it’s essential for the founders to be the target audience. It allows you to move MUCH quicker and not be overly concerned with market research.
I tested this assumption by talking to friends at the gym and fellow gamers, asking if they would find an app like this useful and fun.
Actionable Step: Know Your Target Audience
Early Marketing and User Acquisition
Initially, we needed to validate that the primary engagement loop was, well engaging 🙂.
We started by reaching out to friends in various fitness communities who also had an interest in gaming - literally DMing them and asking them to give our alpha a shot. Here was one of the initial messages:
Yo D! Would love your help in Alpha testing FitHero.ai. Here's the link to download the app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fithero-ai/id6449763830
The invite code is "alpha" (all lower case)
The alpha will last 2 weeks and have two surveys to fill out. If you can hang with the app and fill out both surveys will hook you up with a free shirt
The alpha is SUPER limited in features. Basically we're testing:
  • Do people "get it" (kind like D&D it's a little complicated)
  • What bugs exist?
  • Is the primary game-play loop enjoyable? (battling villains, influenced by your exercise)
This approach helped us secure the first 15 to 20 users.
To hit our goal of 50 for our beta, we capitalized on the timing by releasing it at the beginning of the year (new years resolutions and whatnot), leveraging my social media presence to invite more people to try the app.
The timing, coupled with the growing interest in AI, helped us reach our goal of 50 users.
I vividly remember posting about our private beta on Facebook, hoping for a few responses, and waking up to dozens of messages from people eager to try it out. It was a thrilling moment that showed me there was real interest in what we were building.
Actionable Step: Validate with Friends and Community
Effective Strategies and Platforms
One effective strategy was limiting the number of users who could join the private beta, creating a sense of urgency.
Facebook was the primary platform for user acquisition, given its algorithm and the personal connection it offers.
We also created a Facebook group for FitHero.ai, which allowed us to collect feedback, share updates, and engage with users in a private community. This approach fostered a sense of exclusivity and community among early adopters.
People love to feel like they're part of something exclusive, and this really drove engagement.
Actionable Step: Leverage Timing and Social Media
Engaging with Early Users
Engaging with early users primarily through the Facebook group was highly effective for us.
In particular, polls were excellent ways of gathering valuable feedback. Most posts to the group didn't get a ton of engagement, but when I posted a poll, it was easy for people to give feedback.
Actionable Step: Utilize Social Media Groups
Acquiring your first 50 users can definitely be challenging, but through a combination of timing, value-proposition and putting ourselves out there, we were able to do it and gather great feedback along the way.
Hopefully this helps some of you get your initial users!

2024.05.14 21:27 dorkbait Should I look further into anemia?

My history with iron levels is a bit of a long one - I was quite underweight from about age 13-age 27, and along with complaining of chronic fatigue and exercise intolerance, the most often suggested culprit was anemia. Suffice it to say, it's a body type that runs in my family, and there were no blood markers to suggest anemia at the time. I'm now 36 and still trying to solve some of my ongoing health issues. I've been getting CBCs fairly consistently the past few years; they were a requirement for health insurance with one company I was at. No flags were raised until I had a sleep study done and the practitioner who reviewed my file noted that I moved a lot (I also didn't get into REM sleep the entire night, but that's another thing entirely). My iron was on the borderline of low, so she instructed me to take iron supplements for the next 3 months and follow up.
Lo and behold, when I had my blood retested, my levels had not changed. I discontinued the supplements. When I have been tested since, my MCH and MCHC have continued to test on the low end of normal or slightly below normal, in the 25.5 range and 31.4 range respectively. However, the most recent test revealed that they have slipped lower, to 25 and 30.6. My RDW is normal at 14 and my MCV is normal, if a bit low, at 81.6. I'm wondering if I should ask my GP for further testing when I see her next, or if because my values have largely remained the same, if slightly off, for so long, they're probably just representative of my normal. I doubt that anemia would account for my issues, which I suspect are a combination of several complex comorbidities related to hypermobility.
Thanks in advance for any input!

2024.05.14 21:04 son_of_menoetius How do I get over my anti-exercise mindset?

Before I start, let me tell you I'm a 15 year old boy, and I am the complete textbook definition of a nerd.I mean, my idea of fun is solving calculus books, not hanging out with friends.
So yeah, I am obviously made fun of at school a lot, because a lot of the boys in my class go to the gym frequently.
And of recent, I've also realized that I'm unfit, because I have man boobs and I want abs. I can't deny they look attractive.
But I'm afraid to ask for help from the kids in the class, because I feel like I'm betraying the idea of myself.
The past few years, because the number of friends I have has dwindled, I've become highly introverted, and I've built up this idea of a nerd in myself for the past few years, and I've absorbed myself into this idea.
Now, whether this is the real me or not, even I don't know at this point, but I've built up a hate for exercise, a hate for gym goers.
But I have gone a few times, once or twice, and I love the feeling. But I feel so conscious. The people at my gym tell me that, oh, you're a kid, why don't you bench more? Why don't you lift more? And I'm so afraid to tell them how unfit I am, and I'm not healthy like other kids my age.
I don't know why I'm feeling so conscious about doing this. I just feel like I'm betraying the idea of myself that I have built as an inferiority complex.
I guess what I just need is a way to get over this mindset.

I'm (31M) preparing to see my partner (P, 34NB) for the first time in a year. I'm pretty excited as I have missed them.
Currently they are on a vacation in the capital city of my country (which is considerable distance away) with Meta (M) and some friends, and will be meeting me and staying with me later on. We have had a bit of an argument over P boundary setting with me regarding meeting arrangements and this has made me felt less confident about our date week as a whole.
The situation feels a bit personal for myself because I have GAD, a disability and am neurodivergent with comorbid executive dysfunction issues. I personally think that the ED is a significant stressor for Partner, maybe even more than my mental health! Although I am not sure why this is.
I can somewhat understand why executive functioning is a sore spot and important. In general booking flights, trains, hotels etc. can be really stressful and overwhelming for me, and while a general problem, this is obviously a problem in an LDR especially. There is also P's work schedule to consider. I wish we had more autonomy but I can't and in fact right now I'm not even *allowed* to drive.
So what happened: my polycule suggested this UK meet months ago, and I was keen, but this was at the time just an idea. The plan was always to meet P, M et. al. after their break in capital city A in city B and then for the group to split so that P and I could do our own thing separately.
For various unfortunate reasons though (including awaiting an appointment for surgery and my social security review) I was first unable to commit until 2 weeks ago, when I had a hospital appointment (which was almost a 5 minute waste of time but that's another story) and then procrastinated on reserving hotels. (I was especially scared of being discharged if I rescheduled, and as a disabled person I am just scared of my government who frankly dislike and scapegoat disabled people.) I was also insecure about meeting meta and especially the friends. Finally money was both an issue and something I was pretending was not for reasons I'll explain below.
P tried to help me with hotel reservation but we were unable to complete it before they left their country last weekend. I can't remember why; I'm ashamed to say I might have just got distracted and panicked...
I have since had a busy/exhausting week engaged with advocacy service, family birthdays, therapy and a planned outing with friends--and so has P, with work before leaving and with the trip after. P suggested meeting me halfway at city C, and we could have a day trip there.
I had felt overwhelmed by the decision, so asked for help from my friends. Both my friends and partner kept emphasising that reservations as well as the kinds of long-haul trains I wanted would be 'expensive' and basically talking out of our plan B and plan C. It seems as if my not spending was the major consideration. At risk of sounding both privileged and irresponsible, which maybe I am; from a self-confidence standpoint I care less about spending a lot of money as a) proving to myself I can do these things and b) treating my partner to a nice experience after so long away from each other.
However I am also quite a people pleaser, especially towards P. Additionally deadlines absolutely cause me to panic and any form of timekeeping pressure. So if somebody shares an opinion strongly then I tend to just mirror them. This can often be a problem with Partner who has quite a lot of strong opinions and values, and also can be easily frustrated. They can also be impatient although I want to caveat that in many ways they have been *very* patient with me. It's hard to process. I keep wanting to blame myself or them. The point is that I don't like arguing with people and will let them talk me out of a situation if it means avoiding a fight. (I know this is a trauma response from my abandonment issues and seeing my parents fight while divorcing as a kid)
Partner initially said that since they were now spending time with meta they were unavailable and it was up to me to decide and plan my own arrangements. However they more or less suddenly changed their mind *the next day*, and said that they had to consider their own needs, had ditched any plans with me beyond meeting me at my home (plan D) and will meet me at my home this weekend.
I absolutely understand why P was stressed about pinning down a meet up date, place and time. Despite being completely fluent, they would be travelling in a foreign country after all. Perhaps I had been stubborn about 'wanting to see Meta and friends' while not considering or committing to the logistics of that, which I knew would exhaust me.
The problem was this flip in...willingness to grant me autonomy happened so suddenly I had no time to process it. I was on a bus home at the time. The period between "I think we should drop the holiday" and "I've bought a train directly to yours, meet me" was about 5-10 minutes of streaming IMs where I was in freeze response and unable to really engage.
Although they didn't see it (instead my friend did) I had a complete meltdown and panic attack as in my mind this was failure. I was already doing toxic comparison to Meta (who is wealthier, more relationally experienced, and has greater connections in the poly scene). My hometown is...it's a dump. I mean my local area is nice enough but...it's not a capital city or city break. I sense this is toxic but . Again it feels like personal failure, especially as I had told my family and *even my therapist and social worker* about the plans. So there is embarrassment on top of it, like disappointing P is disappointing *them* by proxy. Further I'm worrying that the fact I think P might even 'need' the entertainment of a big city is being sexist (and so misgendering). Finally I'm struggling to think of alternatives since I doubt they will want to spend the whole time in my apartment.
Nor is this the first time I have had a meltdown due to P being frustrated with how slow, tardy, indecisive I can get. In fact one happened when we went on vacation last year...because I took too long in the toilet before we left for the train. So...yeah, I know how important punctuality and efficiency is to P but I...still got caught off guard this time.
I spoke to my therapist today I'm thinking about whether it'd be good for us to have a one-off 'couples therapy' with my therapist (with P attending) and what I need to ask from my therapist. Fortunately my therapist is poly informed and practises it, which I think will help. However I don't think this is about 'poly' exactly, it seems to be about my own difficulties.
Beyond this I'm not sure what to do. Honestly I don't want to disturb P but also? This incident has caused me to check out of interest in their time with M and friends beforehand, (which I was previously following with interest) and lose some compersion. I have the distressed part of my brain telling me that I can avoid disappointing people if I just let them take control of everything and never say No or speak up. Especially with P it has seemed for a while that the best way to avoid annoying them is to just let them take the lead, because me trying to exercise my own autonomy just causes analysis paralysis and arguments leading to panic attacks/meltdowns/shame spirals...and tbqh that happens with everyone in my life which suggests it's a me problem. Generally I'm just low energy now, I'm tired and didn't sleep well or much.
I am worried I'm going to get dumped, and I am worried that this would be proof that I am not fit for at least poly dating if not dating in general. My mind takes P and M as representative of 'the ideal ENM individual' (read: high agency, extremely independent, values autonomy, effortless boundaries/assertiveness, highly efficient/no EF issues etc.) and I am projecting all of my insecurities and deficit in these faculties onto the whole damn scene.
How much of this boils down to bad communication, RSD and internalised ableism? Idk. I can tell that my mind is on a worry train now, and this whole thing is yet again as much about proving myself as capable to people as being in the moment. I worry that I won't be able to mentally solve this issue and I *have* to let go. Right now I need to clean this place up a little before the weekend. Any help appreciated

$CRYM Disruptive weed extraction technology with nearby catalysts
Cryomass technologies ($CRYM) is a $7 million market cap that has developed the technology to improve the extraction of trichomes out of hemp and marihuana plants. Trichomes are the part of the plant that contains THC and CBD, it is the part of the plant that is most valuable to create and generates the cash.
The current methods to separate trichromes from the plant are still done with techniques which have been developed in the 1960's. With these methods a lot of the trichromes are lost in the process as these are very delicate particles.
Cryomass has developed (and patented untill 2038) a technology to freezedry the biomass close after harvest which preserves the biomass. This allows companies to store their plants longer with less loss. Next, Cryomass can also separe the freezedried biomass a lot faster and with out (chemical) solvents. Producing solventless adds value as you add no chemicals. It's like buying biological food. It commands a higer a price as it is more natural and more healthy. The difference is: biological food is more expensive to produce than traditional food. In the case of Cryomass, they can produce the higher quality product at a lower cost. It's a win-win.

They had issues with bringing their machines in the market initially as
  1. the market didn't believe their extraction numbers at first. "It looks too good to be true".
  2. The capex for 1 of their systems was initially very high for a system that is new and wasn't proven yet.
Both issues are now gone. They made a beta machine which they are operating for over 2 months now. The machine is processing 2k-4k lbs of biomass per day. This has been done in collaboration with potential customers who saw with their own eyes the speed and quality of the separation process. That solved problem 1.
Problem 2 they solved with their innovative financing solution they announced earlier this year (CryoMass Announces Non-Dilutive Financing Agreement (yahoo.com)). Cryomass didn't have the cash to up front invest a new machine. The potential customer didn't want to upfront the investment. The largest shareholder (CRYM Co-Invest LP) provided cash for the construction for up to 5 units. In return Cryomass agreed to issue four warrants to Co-Invest LP with 5,000,000 shares of Common Stock underlying each warrant, for an aggregate of 20,000,000 underlying shares of Common Stock. The warrants have exercise prices of $0.25, $0.50, $0.75 and $1.00 per share of underlying.
==> these warrants are USELESS if the stock price does not go above the exercise price. That fact that the largest shareholder entered into this agreement is because they are confident that the sharepass will surpass these levels. As im writing this, the stock price is 0,0387. That means x6 to reach the lowest exercise price, x12 to reach the $0,5 exercise, x18 to reach the $0,75 and a wopping x24 to reach the $1 mark.
Cryomass will not simply sell these machines. They also retain a royalties of around $5/lb processed. Lets say a system does 2000 lbs /day for 4 days a week and 11 months a year. That would give 2000 lbs * $5 * 4 days * 4 weeks *11 months = $1.76 million revenue for a system on a yearly basis. The CEO has already confirmed that with 2 machines active, they will become cash flow positive. They have the beta machine operational, and now they announced the sale of their second machine.
I expect Q1 result this week or next week at the latest. Maybe that will give us some (audited) insights in the performance of the beta machine, but it will probably will be to early. If it's too early, then Q2 results mid august will be the time to expect fireworks.
A nice backwind for this stock is that the Cannabis sector seems to have made a bottom and is starting a new uptrend. Legislation and public narrative is evolving positively for the sector.

Stock performance of Cryomass has sucked so far. Mainly because so far they couldn't get their machines in the market and there was a liquidy threat. Both of those issues are now resolved but are NOT yet reflected in the share price. Imho that is only a matter of time.
May the stock go as high as the end consumer of the sector!

2024.05.14 16:54 South_Okra_6421 Mindful Acceptance

My journey towards my first injection of Zepbound the Friday before last started at an age earlier than I can remember. I was told that I would finish bottles twice as fast as my brother and sisters did and that was just the beginning. I can remember my first official diet at the age of 10 and can recall the allowances given by Weight Watchers to this day, 6 protein, 5 starch, 5 dairy, 3 fats, and 3 fruits, with unlimited servings of vegetables. At the time this was the accepted way of doing things and the family followed this plan together. We would calculate these portions and buy frozen meals that had these values written on the side. I never would have known that this would be the start of a lifelong battle, where I was accepted and validated while losing weight, dismissed and ridiculed when I wasn’t. In my house weight loss was looked at as a matter of willpower and my father would take me to the grocery store where we would open the bakery cabinet and breathe in the scents of the muffins, brownies, and other pastries without giving in the the temptation of eating any of them. The yo-yoing of my weight started then and continued through 5 years ago, when I was larger than ever and found my way to a weight loss clinic that restricted calories down to 800 a day before building back up over time, mostly through the use of bars and shakes, alongside a meal of protein and veggies. Just like in the past I was able to shed weight on command with a restrictive system, eventually losing 140 pounds, which brought me from 388 down to 248. This was by far the largest loss of my life, having had losses of 90, 75, and multiple losses in the 30-50 range. This time it felt different, but the binge eating at night came back every time I would get to the 250 range. Like clockwork I would creep up and the nurse practitioner would ask if I wanted to try a medication to help and instantly I would take offense and lose the 15 pounds that crept back on, realizing along the way that I needed someone to doubt me, that I needed someone to not believe in me to get back on track. Through this entire journey I had told every person involved that I would be impressed if they could help me keep myself within a 15 pound range for over a year. This method came close but it was always 15 up and 15 down, cycling nearly every other month. This epiphany was met with curiosity and I eventually was referred to a mindful nutritionist that focused on talking through my binge eating issues and removing the good vs. bad labels that I placed on each food my entire life as it relates to food. It took some time to get on their calendar and by then I had risen to 270 pounds. I started this new part of the journey barely eating any real foods and over time I incorporated foods into my life, while removing the labels associated with them. My weight crept up, but I knew this was part of the plan as I judged less and shamed myself even less. I knew this as I had taken up zen meditation over the past few years and along the way I noticed a voice in my head, that voice used my mother’s nickname for me and whenever clothes started to tighten I would hear this admonition, and then one day I realized that I was saying these shame ridden insult out loud to myself. Over the course of a year I reduced my binge eating considerably and accepted more foods into my life. I also noticed that I would often tell my children that “I couldn’t be trusted” with his food and that food and over time I stopped doing these things, both to my benefit and their’s, as the parentification wasn’t good for either of us. Despite all of this I still continued to see the numbers climb, but didn’t weigh myself and felt better than I ever had at such a high weight. As I went past the 300 mark the guilt wasn’t there and the shame was lessened to a a degree I couldn’t imagine. Along this path I believed that the more self acceptance I could show, the less shame I would feel, and in turn I would eat only one hungry, at least eventually. My weight stabilized and I thought I was in my way,but my clothes kept getting tighter, bit by bit over time. At my next physical my doctor looked at my weight and immediately went to suggesting medication. As I tried to explain my work with my nutritionist he was dismissive and kept referring to the work I was doing as being on a diet, which I had refused to do. I was incorporating all foods in my life while not binging and although I physically didn’t feel great, I was proud of the mental place I was in. It was at this time that I began a 4-5 month dialogue between my doctor and my nutritionist. Talking about my goals, fears, and everything in between. I had become comfortable in a bigger body and accepting of it, however I was starting to notice the effect on my psyche, especially at work when I had to present and speak publicly or on camera. I came to the conclusion that I just wanted to be able to exercise regularly and buy clothes at a regular store, staying at XXL sizes or below. My nutritionist was along for the ride and while she never had a patient on Zepbound her approval meant the world to me as I had my doctor place the prescription in at the pharmacy. It was another 2 months before I asked them to fill it and I eventually had it delivered and in my fridge. I had been dismissive of everyone who had bariatric surgery and other interventions, for they didn’t have the “willpower” that I had to lose weight on command. Swallowing my pride I injected myself 11 days ago not knowing what to expect. The injection instead served as admission that I was no better than anyone else and that I could accept medical intervention for something that I just couldn’t solve in any way. After the injection I experienced a profound moment where I went to the pantry prior to a Zoom panel discussion that would have 400 people on it. In this moment I realized that I always came here prior to speaking publicly, it his time was different. I realized I wasn’t hungry and I also realized that my anxiety was lessened in a way far beyond my appetite and impulses. In the 11 days since I have come to terms with the fact that I suffered from anxiety deeper than I ever knew and this new medication made that completely clear. I now move forward hoping to stay in XXL or lower, but fearful that without this medication my anxiety will come back, with my impulsive eating right behind. I then come back to the fact that I will continue the meditation practice, exercise routine, and self acceptance tools that I’ve worked on diligently over the years to guide my path. I don’t know where this journey will take me, but I am glad that I was able to share this publicly for the first time here on Reddit

2024.05.14 16:24 deadcoder0904 9 Use cases for GPT-4o

GPT-4o is an omni model. It accepts any combination of text, audio, and image as input and generates any combination of text, audio, and image as outputs.
There's 100s of applications it will enable. I'll cover a few of them below.

1. Language Learning

Duolingo Stock fell by $65 in the last 5 days. That should tell you the entire story.
Duolingo Stock
For context, Duolingo is a language-learning app. Now GPT-4o can easily translate terms in other languages by just pointing it to the ChatGPT's Camera.
This is massive if you want to travel globally as a nomad. You don't have to know a language now. You can just translate on the fly in any random country.
The accuracy won't be 100% but it would be close enough. And the AI keeps improving.

2. Solving School Problems For Students

I wish I had this in school. Learning could've been more efficient and faster.
Most students fear asking questions because they feel it might be dumb. Now you can ask ChatGPT any dumb question.
It even solves math problems for the Salman Khan's (founder of Khan Academy, not the actor) Kid.

3. Bed Time Stories For Kids

Since ChatGPT can talk now with a humourous and sultry voice, you can use it to tell stories to kids. It can be used in the voice of their parents or grandparents.
You can even use a Soft Toy that does the talking to the kid. Earlier, there used to be toys that did that but it only spoke the same sentence. Now it can do back and forth.
You can make special toys that teach kids letters and alphabets. Target it to 2-3 year olds.
Hat tip to Whyme-__- for the Bed Time idea.

4. Be My Eyes For The Blind

Best damn use-case for the blind. Now using a Phone is a bit too much for this but when smart glasses come, every blind person will have a walking companion.
The future is great for the blind.

5. Be My Friend

Too many people are lonely nowadays thanks to technology. It can be a boon for some but a con for others.
You can build a specialized app that gets you an AI Friend since you can talk to it now and it can talk back, it will be great.
I am 100% sure Therapy AI will be much better now with Audio/Video integration. In future, we will have fully featured Robots like Tesla's Optimus and Figure that will have such functionalities built-in.
I bet this comes in <2 years judging by the pace at which AI and Robotics are accelerating.

6. Comic Books

Now that text can be easily created with ChatGPT, why not create Comic Books easily.
Its a huge creative exercise for comic creators. Webtoons have exploded in popularity and many KDramas are made out of them like Death's Game and Marry My Husband.
This will increase the creativity exponentially.

7. Font Creations

Fonts are expensive. Like really expensive.
Funnily enough ChatGPT can create fonts easily now. Take the most popular fonts, tweak them a bit, and create entire new sets of fonts.
Look at the creations explode on Creative Market. Font directories like Typewolf can now create their own fonts easily as they already have distribution.
Open AI GPT-4o Text to Font

8. Brand Placements

It solved for Brand Placements too.
You can put your brand in places you never imagined without using too much effort.

2024.05.14 15:08 Kumarmehul Know Sleep Problems and Get Solutions

Sleep, an essential component of our daily lives, often eludes many. In today's fast-paced world, where screens glow well into the night and stressors seem to multiply, achieving a restful night's sleep can feel like a distant dream. Sleep problems have become increasingly common, affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds. From insomnia to sleep apnea, these issues can have significant impacts on both physical and mental well-being. However, amidst these challenges, there are effective solutions and tips to promote better sleep hygiene and overall health.
Know Sleep Problems:
Insomnia, perhaps the most prevalent sleep disorder, plagues millions worldwide. Characterized by difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, insomnia can lead to daytime fatigue, irritability, and impaired cognitive function. Stress, anxiety, and poor sleep habits often contribute to its development.
Another common sleep disorder is sleep apnea, marked by interruptions in breathing during sleep. This condition not only disrupts rest but also increases the risk of cardiovascular problems and accidents due to daytime sleepiness. Additionally, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, and parasomnias like sleepwalking further complicate the landscape of sleep disorders.
Get Solutions:
Despite the challenges posed by sleep problems, there are several strategies individuals can employ to improve their sleep quality and overall well-being:
  1. Establish a Consistent Sleep Schedule: Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day helps regulate your body's internal clock, promoting better sleep quality over time.
  2. Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine: Engage in calming activities such as reading, meditation, or gentle stretching before bed to signal to your body that it's time to wind down.
  3. Optimize Your Sleep Environment: Ensure your bedroom is conducive to sleep by keeping it cool, dark, and quiet. Invest in a comfortable mattress and pillows to enhance comfort.
  4. Limit Screen Time Before Bed: The blue light emitted by screens can disrupt the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep-wake cycles. Limit exposure to electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime.
  5. Mind Your Diet and Exercise: Regular physical activity can promote better sleep, but avoid vigorous exercise close to bedtime. Additionally, limit caffeine and heavy meals in the evening, as they can interfere with sleep.
  6. Manage Stress and Anxiety: Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or journaling to ease stress and quiet the mind before sleep.
Note :- By implementing these strategies and prioritizing good sleep hygiene, individuals can take proactive steps towards achieving restorative and rejuvenating sleep. If sleep problems persist despite self-help efforts then..
Solve Your Sleep Problems...By Best solution.

2024.05.14 15:03 haebixpreschool The Importance Of Reading: 10 Reasons For Children In The Nursery

Reading is often touted as one of the most fundamental skills a child can develop. But why is it so important, especially in the early years? Let's take a look at the importance of reading for children in the nursery and explore ten reasons why it should be a cornerstone of early childhood education.
1. Language development: Through reading, children learn new words, phrases and sentence structures, which helps them build a rich vocabulary and understand the nuances of language. This early exposure lays a strong foundation for effective communication skills later in life.
Haebix Preschool, a pioneer in language development, stands among best pre schools in india. With innovative methods, it nurtures linguistic skills in young learners, fostering communication and cognitive growth. Renowned for its holistic approach to education, Haebix is a beacon of excellence in early childhood development across the nation.
2. Cognitive development: Engaging with books stimulates various cognitive functions, including memory, attention and problem solving. As children interpret stories, make connections and predict outcomes, their cognitive skills are sharpened and critical thinking and analytical skills are enhanced.
3. Imagination and creativity: Books are portals to countless worlds, adventures and ideas. When children immerse themselves in stories, they exercise their imagination by imagining characters, settings and scenarios, which in turn boosts their creativity and innovation.
4. Emotional intelligence: Stories often deal with complex emotions and interpersonal relationships, which helps children to understand and manage their feelings. Through the characters' experiences, children learn empathy, resilience and how to deal with life's ups and downs.
5. Bonding and socialization: Reading together fosters a strong bond between children and caregivers. It is a special time of bonding, conversation and shared experiences and reinforces the importance of relationships and social interactions.

2024.05.14 14:43 DutyTop8086 How to Land Your Dream IT Job After Earning Your CompTIA Certification: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Finding a Job You’re Interested In
Step one is incredibly important in your job-hunting journey because you don’t want to waste your time searching, applying, and interviewing for a position you don’t actually want. You can get the same practice interviewing by going out for jobs you really want, so you have to figure this out.
Is there a particular area of IT that interests you? Maybe you don’t see yourself specializing in your work, and that’s fine. There are companies seeking IT professionals who can follow various types of projects and work closely alongside other tech experts.
Not only is becoming an IT professional a practical job choice, but it’s also dependable in terms of career growth. The demand for IT professionals has continued to steadily grow over the years, with employment for IT specialists estimated to grow by a whopping 11% in the next decade.
As an IT professional, your skills will also make you eligible for employment at businesses other than tech companies. You might also decide to teach or be your own boss as an independent contractor for IT services. An IT education displays the skills necessary to work in a wide range of occupations, including government, finance, healthcare, and more! Should you transition into another field of study, IT courses still offer an educational foundation that you can build on throughout your life.
In today’s market, careers don’t have a linear direction—instead of moving up the office positions, you may shift from one occupation to another, learning to pick up certain skills as they become more in demand. IT professionals show great career development. They have strengthened problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and interpersonal relations, all trending job traits.
Another way to narrow down your options is to pick a city or location in which you want to work and begin searching there. You can search in nearby areas as well if the immediate city doesn’t have open positions for IT professionals. Maybe you want to find a position that is flexible, so you can work some hours remotely or on the weekends to fit your lifestyle better.
Whatever the case, once you narrow down your criteria and select some jobs you’re interested in, you can begin applying and interviewing.
  1. Getting Past the Gatekeepers
Highlight your skills and credentials to potential employers. This will help you stand out, and it showcases your credibility and skills. Accreditation ensures high-quality education and services for schools in a similar way that certification ensures high-quality job candidates.
As a graduate of the CompTIA certification program, you secure more than the necessary coursework needed to sit for various IT exams and certifications, such as the CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. These certifications are well-recognized in the industry and can significantly boost your employability.
Your CompTIA certification demonstrates your competence and readiness to handle IT tasks effectively. Not only is CompTIA recognized globally, but it also aligns with industry standards and expectations. Employers often look for candidates with certifications from accredited programs, as it assures them of the quality and relevance of the skills acquired.
  1. Using Temporary Agencies
Once your certification is completed, the next steps and hunt for an entry-level career begin. Temporary agencies, or staffing agencies, are one of the best and time-tested strategies in the IT hiring process.
For a short period of time, employers hire temporary workers until they have time to find a permanent employee. Temp jobs can give you experience in industries and careers you might not have otherwise thought of trying—without a long-term commitment. Furthermore, firms like Robert Half Technology are well-paying and reputable temp agencies in the IT field.
They will send you out for short-term assignments, which is an ideal amount of time to get your foot in the door for a full-time position or to gain experience in a particular field. Having a high-powered connection is the most likely way to getting hired. These include a recruiter, a temp agency, or a personal friend who has connections in the industry. If you have no connections or you haven’t made it to a recruiter’s list yet, then your best bet is to go in through a tech temp agency.
The temp process should not last longer than a year. As a result, you may want to pursue a part-time position as a temp in a firm while you are getting your degree or other qualifications. Regardless of how you get on the inside of a firm, remember the cardinal rule number two in all firms is privacy. You should avoid gossip and discussing your business, or the business of others, with those inside the firm. Use discretion when releasing any personal information. You want to make and maintain friendships while remaining professional and representing the firm you are under at all times. You never know where networking will lead you, or how it can help you get hired in the future!
  1. Interviewing for an IT Job
Before interviewing with a company or any of its representatives, you will want to remember a few important facts. IT managers are often detail-oriented and thorough. Consequently, they listen to every detail you say and weigh it in the balance of what it is they want from you. Therefore, choose your words carefully and avoid getting personal.
While you don’t want to get too personal, you also don’t want to answer questions with a simple “yes” or “no.” Explain your reasons for answering a question a certain way. Take time to answer an interviewer’s questions. If you need a minute to think before you answer, take it. You don’t want to look stuck and allow long periods of silence, but thinking about a question before you commit to an answer shows the interviewer that you care about your answers and want to be hired. If you reiterate the question back to the interviewer, you can ensure that you’ve understood them correctly and buy yourself a few more moments to consider your response.
This is a cardinal rule in negotiations: He who speaks first loses. At a time when you are seeking to negotiate a salary, view our previous IT blog post for tips on negotiating an above-average IT salary.
  1. Accepting the Job
The goal of the interview process is to be hired for the job, so this moment is exciting and probably intimidating as well. You might decide to accept the job, decline the job, or negotiate the job with pending acceptance. When you’re offered a job that you’re unsure of accepting, it’s okay to consider the offer prior to accepting or declining. If you tell the company you’d like to think about the offer, give them a date you’ll let them know by, never more than a few days. They have a position to fill and others to notify, so they can’t wait around for you to respond to their offer.
Here are some things to consider about a potential job:
Once you are offered a position and decide you’re ready to accept the job, you’ll need to let the prospective employer know. Be proactive. It’s common to wait 24 hours before accepting a job, and during that time you can ask for the offer in writing if it is not provided. Verbal offers and acceptances are okay, but written communication alleviates room for any disconnect between you and your potential employer in the scope of the job, benefits, etc. Make sure you discuss the starting date of employment. Allow yourself enough time to prepare and conclude your time with any previous employers if necessary.
Perhaps the most important reason to pursue IT certification programs is that you have all the tools to achieve a career doing what you love. IT courses provide the tools and develop the skills necessary to excel in the field. Accessible resources may include online case citation software, exercises that strengthen your technical knowledge, research and investigative skills, technology organization, and multitasking.
If you’re searching for the tools you need to earn your certification in a convenient and affordable manner, then consider reputable institutions that offer comprehensive IT programs. These institutions provide you with the complete freedom to manage your personal life, get hired at your dream job, and pursue your education—all at your own pace.
