2024.05.15 03:25 Enali (Spoilers Extended) The Rogue Houses of Dorne

Seven ravens go with Arianne Martell to be Doran's eyes and ears to Aegon and the Golden Company in the Stormlands. And while Arianne's journey progresses she will likely need to make a choice... will she send the word 'dragon' home in a letter, the coded word asking for Dorne to call their spears and join Aegon's cause? Or will the word be 'war'? (...in this case 'war' means 'wait')... I'll let you decide - I assume most people's minds are pretty set on this point, and mine own is not really standard canon, so I will only say the last raven seems an ill omened thing as the seventh of a set is often linked to The Stranger, Westeros' god of death.
The topic I hoped to brainstorm today is not actually about what Arianne decides... but rather what happens next. Because I notice with a lot of theories the assumption is that the Dornish houses waiting on Arianne's response will march in lockstep with whatever her and Doran's order is... but... will they? Some of the Dornish houses seem pretty independent-minded and I feel there's been some fairly significant foreshadowing emerging that Doran's hold over the the kingdom is only tentative at best. That's worth discussing... In particular three houses seem to repeatedly stand out as possibilities to challenge the peace regardless of the Martells' wishes: Houses Yronwood, Fowler, and Uller....

House Fowler šŸŖ¶

The Fowlers make their home at Skyreach, a castle with a lofty perch and soaring stone towers carved into the stone slopes of the Red Mountains overlooking the Prince's Pass, one of two major overland routes into Dorne, and the easier to traverse of the two (the other being the steep and treacherous Boneway). The House is led by Lord Franklyn Fowler 'the Old Hawk', who has two twin daughters - Jeyne and Jennelyn. What could cause House Fowler to rebel against the Martells?
Sign #1 - The Fowlers closeness with Lady Nym
Oberyn's death was a rallying cry for a lot of Dorne desiring vengeance against the Lannisters, and in particular the news greatly effected the Sand Snakes - Nymeria Sand is said to be 'famously' close with the Fowler twins, she was actually with them the moment she learned of Oberyn's death, and it follows they likely sympathize with her position. In fact when Lady Nym first pitches Doran her plan to assassinate key Lannisters in King's Landing she does so by pleading the Fowler house words to him: "You know the Fowler words? Let Me Soar! That is all I ask of you. Let me soar, Uncle. I need no mighty host, only one sweet sister." And Doran would later tell Arianne that Nym is 'too close to the Fowler twins' (and thus unable to keep secrets from them). I imagine the Fowlers did not take the news well when they learned of Nymeria's imprisonment afterwards...
Sign #2 - Arianne's plea to Lord Fowler
Then when Arianne Martell is imprisoned herself after her Queenmaker plot she attempts to send out a secret message with one of her attendants to plead for help to free her from her father's grasp. She considers different options to address this letter to, someone ideally receptive to the idea of rebelling against Doran (which is no small thing to ask!) but also powerful enough to do so. Her first thoughts drift to Yronwood, but decides against them only because they fostered Quentyn and she believes he and Anders are conspiring against her, then goes through a few of the houses of her friends before finally deciding "that she had but two real hopes: Harmen Uller, Lord of Hellholt, and Franklyn Fowler, Lord of Skyreach and Warden of the Prince's Pass."
She ultimately decides to pen the letter to Lord Fowler because she thinks the Ullers as half-mad to the point of having a dangerous response. After that the attendant Cedra is presumably caught by Doran's men as she never reappears and Areo tells us that she was sent to the Water Gardens. But even without the letter actually going out the fact that she chose Lord Fowler to send this plea to probably says a lot about their overall relationship with Doran.
Sign #3 - A Toast to Tommen
In the Watcher chapter during the presentation of The Mountain's skull a toast to Tommen is made, and those who choose to drink or to refuse it give us another indication of the sentiments around Dorne... this is not subtly implied as much as it is directly pointed out by Areo:
The white knight did drink, as was only courteous. His companions likewise. So did the Princess Arianne, Lady Jordayne, the Lord of Godsgrace, the Knight of Lemonwood, the Lady of Ghost Hill ā€¦ even Ellaria Sand, Prince Oberyn's beloved paramour, who had been with him in King's Landing when he died. Hotah paid more note to those who did not drink: Ser Daemon Sand, Lord Tremond Gargalen, the Fowler twins, Dagos Manwoody, the Ullers of the Hellholt, the Wyls of the Boneway. If there is trouble, it could start with one of them. Dorne was an angry and divided land, and Prince Doran's hold on it was not as firm as it might be. Many of his own lords thought him weak and would have welcomed open war with the Lannisters and the boy king on the Iron Throne.
Again the Fowler twins and Ullers show us that they still hold a lot of resentment. Daemon Sand makes sense too - he was part of Oberyn's retinue in King's Landing (sometimes rumored to have had a relationship with him) and watched him die, and after the Sand Snakes were imprisoned he went to Sunspear to demand their release and was imprisoned himself for the trouble. I'd keep an eye on him in Arianne's plot.
The Yronwoods weren't in attendance for the toast, however the Wyls were and refused it - I get the sense they are pretty close with the Yronwoods, both of which have their houses on the Boneway where they've joined forces. Another party that refused the toast, the Manwoodys, are stationed in the Prince's Pass and likely close allies with the Fowlers - lending more weight to the idea that this area is rebellious. House Gargelene is the one that's most difficult to place, being located in a fairly isolated spot in the south of Dorne at Salt Shore.
Sign #4 - The Troops in the Passes
By Arianne's TWOW excerpts we also hear that the troops in the Prince's Pass and the Boneway are becoming restless:
In the Boneway and the Princeā€™s Pass, two Dornish hosts had massed, and there they sat, sharpening their spears, polishing their armor, dicing, drinking, quarreling, their numbers dwindling by the day, waiting, waiting, waiting for the Prince of Dorne to loose them on the enemies of House Martell.
Darkstar's Plot
So how might the Fowlers act out? Outside of Arianne's raven being sent (and depending on the result), I think we should be keeping an eye on the Darkstar plot. Darkstar, per his own words and actions, seems to want to start a war against the crown and has presumably fled back to his home of High Hermitage in the Red Mountains where its implied he has support. He will probably pass by Starfall on the way up the Torrentine's rushing waters, but the Prince's Pass and Skyreach are both not that far from his location and in fitting with the prior indications of the Fowlers' intentions and Darkstar's overall goals he may try to incite the already anxious troops there to raid the Dornish Marches. These houses have a long history of animosity towards the Reach and Marcher Lords whose defenses will be exposed with Euron's attacks. Such an assault could parallel prior rogue leaders the Vulture Kings.

House Uller šŸœļø

We've already seen that the Ullers play out somewhat similarly to the Fowlers - they were one of the major considerations for Arianne to send her plea for help to, and they were one of the parties notably refusing Tommen's toast. Lord Harmen Uller is the current Lord of the Hellholt, "a grim, stinking seat beside the sulfurous yellow waters of the Brimstone" located near the deep sands in the centesouth of Dorne.
There is a saying in Dorne we are told: 'half the Ullers are 'half-mad and the other half are worse.' And as Ellaria Sand is Lord Harmen's natural daughter when she and her little ones (Elia, Obella, Dorea, and Loreza) were locked away with the rest of the Sand Snakes Arianne thinks this would 'have made Lord Harmen wroth, and the Ullers were dangerous when wroth.' Its worth noting that in Arianne's Queenmaker plot her end goal was to get to Hellholt to officially crown Myrcella and raise her banners there...
What's interesting about Uller is that while they have a lot of reason to rebel there is at least one pacifying force headed their way - Ellaria Sand (who is also bringing Loreza with her). Ellaria sand accepted the toast to Tommen and despite having been Oberyn's paramour and closer to him than anyone as well as being there for his death, she is actually one of the strongest voices arguing for peace.
"A start?" said Ellaria Sand, incredulous. "Gods forbid. I would it were a finish. Tywin Lannister is dead. So are Robert Baratheon, Amory Lorch, and now Gregor Clegane, all those who had a hand in murdering Elia and her children. Even Joffrey, who was not yet born when Elia died. I saw the boy perish with mine own eyes, clawing at his throat as he tried to draw a breath. Who else is there to kill? Do Myrcella and Tommen need to die so the shades of Rhaenys and Aegon can be at rest? Where does it end?"
A Hidden Hellholt Chapter?
Given the Hellholts relative isolation you might be thinking how this could factor further into the plot.... maybe some news of Ellaria's daughters? Or later on if there is an invading force (as Ellaria and Doran fear is coming)? But I've actually been thinking that before Areo Hotah shows up in the Red Mountains we may get to see a chapter with him and Obara and Balon Swann at the Hellholt with Ellaria and Lord Harmen Uller, it would be rewarding to catch up with these characters and see their clashing perspectives on vengeance and Areo on the trail of Darkstar. Per some recent analysis of GRRM's chapter hints we can also kind of conclude there may be a few Areo chapters in varying locations. Another interesting thing pointing me in that direction is the soon to be released 2025 calendar which will be featuring artwork of the Hellholt... that's a strange inclusion for a castle with few mentions (the most relevant of which being Rhaenys' mysterious death long ago), and a lot of the other locations on the calendar do suspiciously have relevant plots nearing them in Winds (so if we haven't seen them already we may do so soon).
The logistics work out pretty well as Hellholt is practically a necessary stop on the way westward to the Red Mountains by land. Even though Arianne herself knows the desert well....
Beyond Vaith the deep sands waited. They would need help from Sandstone and the Hellholt to make that crossing, but she did not doubt that it would be forthcoming.
...Even she fears to tread the deep sands alone... and for Obara it may be the same despite her experience. You really should have a desert guide to locate water sources and navigate the terrain ("In the deep sands a man must hoard his water."). And one of the last safe stops for water and guides is the Hellholt making it invaluable for travelers crossing the sands. The sandstorms seem especially dangerous:
[...]beyond Vaith, western Dorne is naught but a vast sea of restless dunes where the sun beats down relentlessly, giving rise from time to time to savage sandstorms that can strip the flesh from a man's bones within minutes.

House Yronwood ā›“ļø

The Yronwoods are Dorne's second strongest house and their seat is located up in the high meadows of the Red Mountains near the Boneway where the air is always crisp and cool after dark, no matter how hot the day had been. Anders Yronwood, the Bloodroyal, is the leader here.
Even though previously we've seen a few signs that the Yronwoods may rebel given their brief consideration for Arianne's letter for help, and the Wyls' refusal of Tommen's toast, the biggest reason for them to strike out on their own might be their uniquely fractious relationship with the Martells (they also have a long rivalry with the Fowlers). In fact, we were told Yronwood was only just recently on the verge of rebellion after Oberyn allegedly poisoned Lord Edgar Yronwood in a duel after he was found abed with Edgar's paramour, and it was only Doran's quick thinking that avoided it.
Blood feud and rebellion would surely have followed Lord Edgar's death, had not her father acted at once. The Red Viper went to Oldtown, thence across to the narrow sea to Lys, though none dared call it exile. And in due time, Quentyn was given to Lord Anders to foster as a sign of trust. That helped to heal the breach between Sunspear and the Yronwoods, but it had opened new ones between Quentyn and the Sand Snakes...
Quentyn Aftermath & The Blackfyres
And the biggest thing that may reopen that wound is, not surprisingly, news of Quentyn's voyage. Anders Yronwood has lost two sons on what could be seen as a pretty foolish attempt to court Daenerys including his son and heir Cletus Yronwood, who was sent along on the voyage and died from a corsair attack off the coast of the Disputed Lands. The other son? Quentyn Martell himself.... despite him being a Martell, he is really more Yronwood at heart. He grew up in Yronwood with Anders, his best friend was Cletus, he became smitten with his eldest daughter Ynys (who is now heir to Yronwood), and then later fell in love with Gwyneth, the youngest daughter of Anders.... All of Quentyn's memories are with the Yronwood really and Arianne even notes he is somewhat a stranger to her and Sunspear. Doran himself is forced to admit that "Anders Yronwood has been more a father to him than I have".
Anders hasn't heard anything yet from Meereen, information moves slowly in Essos (which has no messenger ravens so it needs to be carried by hand) and most of the people who can pass on that message, like Arch and Drink, are still caught up in the Battle of Fire (and hoping that the Tattered Prince will be merciful to them for their previous desertion). Any news that might get back could end up with a distorted and unflattering picture of Daenerys too (and some of that fallout may carryover to Aegon who seeks to ally with her).
But even before it does the troops commanded by the Yronwoods in the Boneway are conveniently close to the events happening in the Stormlands with the Golden Company. And the Yronwoods have been suspiciously consistent partners of the Golden Company and Blackfyres in the past (which often drew in second houses with a lot to gain), which is all the more interesting given the rumors around Aegon ("Lords of Yronwood rode for the black dragon in no less than three of the five Blackfyre Rebellions.") So if Arianne seeks to side with Aegon and JonCon the Yronwoods might be the first to throw in with that cause... especially if its also a way to oppose Mace Tyrell given his hatred of all things Dorne. However, it might also be interesting if she takes after her father's advice to be cautious and tries to hold back her forces, leading to the Yronwoods ignorning her and Doran's commands and striking out on their own anyways. And it will be interesting how these events may combine with the x-factor of news of Quentyn and Cletus arriving at some point (whatever the timing of that might be in relation to the Battle of Steel).

So what do you think of Houses Fowler, Uller, and Yronwood... will we see them act out in Winds or play loyal bannermen to Doran?
~Thank you for Reading!~
TLDR This post explores the ample foreshadowing that Houses Fowler, Uller, and Yronwood may be unreliable allies of Doran when pressed, and their reaction may not follow what we'd expect when Arianne sends out her last raven either calling Dorne's spears to side with the Golden Company or holding off and keeping to the passes (taking after her father's more prudent advice). Could the Fowlers join with Darkstar and raid the Dornish Marches? Will we have a chapter at the Hellholt before Areo's party travels the deep sands where we see Lord Harmen Uller's rebellious nature collide with Ellaria Sand's attempts at peace? And will the Yronwood troops in the Boneway join their historic allies in the Golden Company, or have a divisive reaction to news of Quentyn and Cletus' deaths?

2024.05.15 02:57 TravellingMatt AIO by making a formal complaint against a pushy salesperson?

This just happened today and I'm still fuming. I had a sales rep come to my home to give me a quote on refacing my kitchen cabinets. I told him from the beginning (and several more times during the visit) that I was not planning on having the work done until next spring. The kiosk rep had told me that I could get a free estimate and lock in a price for twelve months. The visit itself went fine, he showed me the materials and took measurements. He gave me the estimates for a 12 month locked price, but explained I would save money by buying in 30 days (not much, mind you) and that everyone gets that. I told him again that I was not interested in doing the reno that soon, I was only interested in the 12 month locked estimate. He said he thought I meant this spring. He then asked if I would pay for the gas it cost for him to come out here. I laughed in his face and said "Why would you ask that?" And then he muttered that his wife and him won't eat dinner tonight because he didn't make a sale. I told him that I needed to pick up my daughter from school and that he needed to leave. He quietly packed up his sample and left, but not before pointing out that I probably had to pay a lot for the new flooring.
I kept my cool until he left but I was completely floored by this guilt trip. It's not like one of those overly friendly salesman who become jerks when you turn them down; he was even-keeled the whole time but then made those stupid remarks. He only travelled 30 min to get to my house, and it's not my fault if you can't feed your family. And I never said no, I just wanted to get my 12 month estimate.
The AIO part is that I called his company to complain about the encounter and they were also floored that it had happened. They told me that the sales rep was immediately suspended from sales calls, pending an investigation. He's an older gentleman, and I know he hasn't been with this company long, so he's likely in hot water now. The company offered to send me a gift in the mail but I turned it down, saying that would be inappropriate. So, did I overreact in potentially jeopardizing this man's employment? Honestly, he reminded me of Gil from The Simpson's.

2024.05.15 02:13 FredTheCat24 Prospective Political Science PhD Help

Hello all,
I am a prospective political science PhD student looking for advice and help, particularly in what programs to apply to and the chances of getting in. I am interested in American politics, particularly centered on elections, representation, and voting.
I have a bachelors in political science and masters in public administration (with two certificates in nonprofit management and genocide/mass atrocity prevention) from SUNY Binghamton (Binghamton University), both with a 4.0.
I have not taken the GRE yet (so no scores rn), but am taking the summer to study. I feel like my letters of recommendation will be pretty good as well and feel strong about my writing sample. I have no official research or publications, but am working on the latter.
So far my professors have recommended schools like the Ivys, MIT, NYU, SUNY Stony Brook, etc..
What programs do you all recommend and do you think I can get into them?
Thank you in advance

2024.05.15 02:01 Subject_Media_682 How it ended

How It Ended
by Ethan Oā€™Driscoll
A thrilling Post apocalypse story
Intro
HRV-1
22 July 2024
Dr Olivia Warren Head of Biotech NARU
This is my latest report on the HRV-1 Virus we were instructed to design by the Russian Government.
The HRV-1 is an incredibly viral and infectious Retrovirus similar to HIV. Changes have been make on a genetic level to provide the request modes of transmission and symptoms.
Those symptoms are:
This all included in a highly infectious package
The infection vectors are:
This is by far the most dangerous diseases weā€™ve ever designed. I pray to god the Russians only want it as a means of deterrent because if they use it I have no doubt it will end the world. The first sample should be ready to ship next week.
Chapter 1
The Outbreak
1 January 2025
Dr Olivia Warren Head of Biotech NARU
I canā€™t believe the bastards used it. The first cases came in from Kiev in December from there it spread like a wild fire through Europe the death toll now sits at 65 millions. The hordes rampage through city after city by the millions. There is no way to stop this. What have I done.
NATO forces have established a quarantine of Europe but I canā€™t help but feel like its too little too late. My estimate is that all infected nations in Europe will be consumed within the next month or two. The Corporation has started the construction of a company safe haven for us higher ups. All we can do is hope the construction is complete before this thing breaks quarantine.
15 February 2025
Dr Olivia Warren
The world is ending. Europe is gone. The quarantine is broken. Weā€™ve got cases in Asia, South America, Here at home in the US, Australia and Africa nowhere is safe. I did this.
Infection number right now:
There is no hope
The safe zone is complete at least we are planning on moving all operations and personal within the week. I donā€™t know how Iā€™m going to live with myself. Dixie is my only saving grace and at least sheā€™ll be safe. I pray for the soul of all those my creation has killed.
20 March 2025
Dr Olivia Warren
Dixie is at the Safe zone.
I canā€™t live with myself any more. 4 billion people dead
Chapter 2
A New World
My name is Dixie Warren. Daughter of Dr Olivia Warren. Not that Iā€™ve seen her in 15 years. I remember like it was yesterday. She told me to get on that NARU helicopter that sheā€™d meet me at the safe zone. Those were the last words she ever said to me. I was 8 when the world ended.
Its been 15 years since the Outbreak. There isnā€™t really anything left of the old world. NARU still exists and turns out they created the virus and my mom was the head of the department that did it. They sold it to the Russians hoping they wouldnā€™t use it but they did.
It was specifically designed to spread and destroy as fast as possible and it did. I left the safe zone 2 years ago after I learned this information. Now I just spend my time wandering from town to town. My training on the NARU security team helps. At least I know all the best places to shoot a Freaker. That's what we call the infected and for good reason. Most of the time youā€™ll find them wondering around in groups of 5 to 10 if the group gets too big they turn on each other and form a pile of bodies devouring each other. They moan and scream to communicate and once they see you they will hunt you till you kill every last on of them or you get far enough away. They can run and are abnormally strong if there bodies arenā€™t damaged theyā€™re a bitch to kill but Iā€™m pretty good at it.
Right now Iā€™m outside Richmond Iā€™ve been stuck here for a week waiting for a large horde to move through. Iā€™m hoping to hunt some of the stragglers and re-up on some supplies. A big horde like this usually leave a few hundred behind. My new AR has been waiting for some fun, Iā€™ve got a new red dot and laser so I should be able to pop headshot after headshot but for now I should go find something to eat.
Iā€™ve made it to a small department store outside the town. It looks like the horde is almost gone. Tons of freaks roaming around though. I can hear a few in the store. Iā€™m going to try getting in through the back and take them out.
Made it back home and wow that store was a gold mine. I got food, water, bullets and even some whiskey. Iā€™m going to enjoy the night then its time to hunt some stragglers. Then Iā€™m thinking of going further south maybe New Orleans heard there might be a small settlement out there from another traveller, might be able to get another courier job or at least Iā€™ll be able to stock up on supplies properly after all these years there isnā€™t much left in the cities to scavenge.
I better get some rest got a long day of freak killing and walking tomorrow.
Chapter 3
The Road to Home
I left Richmond yesterday. Itā€™s a long road to New Orleans I wished I lived in the days when cars worked. NARU are the only people with working vehicles left and they arenā€™t exactly the sharing type. Its so lonely out here its been weeks since I last saw another living person the only things you see out here in the ruins are freaks by the hundreds. Its hard to believe the whole world was reduced to nothing by something my mom created. I remember her being the kindest most caring person in the world to think that she could create something so destructive is unbelievable. Iā€™ve still got a long way to go the first city I should have to go through is Raleigh.
Iā€™ve been walking for about a day and I can see the ruins from here. Its always so surreal to see the cities now, so desolate so empty. I remember growing up in Seattle, the city lights, the noise it was always so alive and busy. Now theyā€™re all empty husks or mostly empty at least canā€™t forget about the freaks. Mustā€™ve killed a thousand of them on my way here almost got bitten when one jumped me under an overpass about 10 miles back. Luckily my machete seems to be as good as ever at cutting up freaks. I should make it to Raleigh within the day.
Made it to Raleigh and its a mess, thousands of freaks I could hear the moaning and screaming from a mile away. Iā€™m going to try finding my way around the city no point in trying to fight my way through a wall of freaks.
Heard crying coming from a house I walked past I decided to check it out and I found a young boy name Richie hiding in a bathroom with what looked like his infected parents trying to break the door down. I took both of them down with a clean headshot. The look on his face when he saw them dead breaks my heart. He says theyā€™ve been hiding out in this house for a month or two after there homestead was overrun by freaks. Its a sad story but it gives me hope that people are at least trying to survive and rebuilt. Heā€™s only 16 yet heā€™s seen so much and has nowhere else to go so I asked him if he wanted to stick with me and he was elated so I guess Iā€™ve got a sidekick now. Iā€™m not complaining should make the long lonely road more interesting. Heā€™s got no combat experience but he can shoot a pistol so I gave him one of my backups at least I always carry extra. Weā€™ve decided to hunker down for the night and do some scavenging before we leave for Charlotte tomorrow. Iā€™ll be nice to have company for once Iā€™ve been alone for so long.
I woke up to a gunshot and Richie screaming in the other room. When I got there I found Richie pale as snow and a little girl that was clearly infected shot lying on the floor. When I asked Richie who it was he replied in a cold distant voice ā€œMy little sisterā€. It was a heart breaking moment in less than 24 hours Richie had lost everyone. That was a feeling I knew too well my mom was all I had my dad died when I was really young and all I knew after the Outbreak before I left the safe haven was NARU but that wasnā€™t the best place to build personal connections just a bunch of science types that destroyed the world. Not exactly the most social lot and the security forces were just a bunch of military types that didnā€™t like the fact that as a teenager I was doing better than them in every metric except raw physical strength but even in that I was better than a lot of them. Itā€™s almost time for us to get going I should pack up and make sure Richieā€™s okay.
We decided to stop by the old gun store on our way out of Raleigh. Richie mentioned seeing it when him and his dad went out to scavenge one time. He says it looked all locked up meaning thereā€™s a good chance that there might still be something left to take. When we arrived there Richie was right it was locked tight it looked like there might be a way in from the roof so we decided to climb up when I got up there I was jumped by a freak that was just waiting but this one was different smarter in a way it heard me climbing up but instead of screaming and jumping off to get me it decided to hide and wait. In my years of freak killing Iā€™ve never seen one that waits and ambushes. I hope this isnā€™t a sign that the infected are getting smarter. Anyway Richie popped it in the head and we got in to the gun store and what a find it was. I managed to get a brand new Glock 9 with a torch attachment and extended mag to replace the pistol I gave Richie. Speaking of Richie he decided on a 12 gauge pump with a tube extension and a AR-15 with a suppressor, extended mag and front grip. We also found enough ammo to keep us stocked even if we have to shoot our way to Charlotte now that weā€™re locked and loaded its time to leave this shit hole and start walking to the next shit hole at least for once I wonā€™t be alone.
Chapter 4
The Road to Charlotte
Weā€™d been walking for 60 miles before we were jumped by a gang of thugs. I caught a round to the leg before I knew what was happening Richie was more awake than me and managed to put a round through the bastards chest before his friends jumped out from behind two cars in front of us we managed to take cover behind a ruined car and we returned fire. I could see the thugs had no skill they just fired randomly in our direction while we were in cover I waited till they had to reload and tossed a molotov at one of them burning the bastard to a crisp. Richie rushed the other and unloaded some buckshot into his head. My leg hurts like a bitch. Richie bandaged it up for me heā€™s really starting to get used to life on the road. Looking at our map it looks like there is a gas station about 10 miles away so I guess Iā€™ll limp my way there so we can hunker down while me leg heals. I still canā€™t believe I let the bastard catch me lacking but it wonā€™t happen again
We made it too the gas station. The place looks almost perfectly preserved except the group of freaks that were shuffling around outside nothing that we couldnā€™t deal with. There is a lot of food and water here and we should be safe here while my leg heals. I hope we donā€™t run into any more problems till then. I trust Richie but heā€™s still learning and Iā€™m not sure heā€™d be able to deal with any major problem on his own.
Its been 4 weeks since I took that shot to my leg and Iā€™m feeling a lot better. Richie managed to find some painkiller so he was able to get the round out and everything healed nicely. He really is an amazing guy young and naive but he really is a good person. I donā€™t know how I did it without him for so long. It nice not being alone any more. I think Iā€™m ready to get moving again we have about another 100 miles left to go before we get to Charlotte so we better get moving.
Weā€™re about 20 miles from Charlotte, the roads been peaceful we ran into a group of survivors living on a pretty well fortified farm about 25 miles back. They were having issues with some freaks hanging around their water pumping station so we dealt with them for them in exchange for some antibiotics to help with an infection Richie got in his leg where he cut himself jumping a fence while a freak chased him before I could dome it. Only god knows how I didnā€™t get an infection in my leg after getting shot but he did from cutting himself on a rusty fence guess Iā€™m just lucky. After helping them back we continued on our way. Nothing else interesting happened and Richie is looking a lot better and his cut is basically healed. We should get to Charlotte within the day but I want to stop on a hill on the Outskirts to set up base and get a look at the situation in the city because the farmers mentioned that a horde had passed through recently and they usually get held up in cities they should have moved on by now but better safe than sorry
Chapter 5
Charlotte
We made it to the hill outside Charlotte and the place is infested millions of freaks. Iā€™ve never seen so many of them in one place and I think I know why. In the middle of the city is an old NARU emergency treatment centre. A place where all of the cities first infected were sent. A good plan till there were to many of them and quarantine was broken then all it was was a collection of infected right in the middle of the city which lead to the whole thing being infected much faster. Iā€™m guessing this caused most of the freaks to pile and the smell was attracting more. Oh I forgot to mention the smell imagine a pile of thousands of rotting corpses thatā€™s the smell Iā€™m talking about. Thereā€™s no chance weā€™ll be able to get through the city but I need to get to that NARU site. There might be some old documents or something about my mom I need to find out what happened to her. Iā€™ve spoken to Richie and we both agree that we should try and divert the horde away so we can have time to get to the NARU centre.
Richie has volunteered to draw the hordes attention away while I get to the NARU building. The plan is he triggers an explosion at an old gas station on the other side of town while I get to the building and look for information about the virus and what happened to my mom. All I know is that my mom created the virus while working for NARU. I need to find out what happened to her. I hate putting Richie at risk but it needs to be done.
I just heard the explosion and it works thousands of freaks started moving like a tidal wave of flesh towards the sound I hope Richie is on his way to the meeting place at the abandoned NARU checkpoint on the south side of town but I donā€™t have time to think about it now Iā€™m almost at the NARU centre I need to be as fast as possible
I made it to the NARU centre and itā€™s covered in bodies thereā€™s no way I can get in it looks more like a pile of living human corpses than a building Iā€™m guessing the freaks all turned on and consumed each other till they were all stuck and fused together. Iā€™m making my way to the NARU checkpoint I hope Richie is already there and safe.
I made it to the NARU checkpoint and reunited with Richie. He was covered in blood and gore. He had to kill hundreds of freaks to make it here. He says he was almost bitten a few times. I canā€™t believe I risked his life for nothing. Iā€™ll never do it again. While exploring the place I found this.
20 March 2025
Dr Olivia Warren
Dixie is at the Safe zone.
I canā€™t live with myself any more. 4 billion people dead
The final communication between my mom and NARU it turns out she couldnā€™t live with the guilt and decided to kill herself. I canā€™t blame her I would probably do the same if I was the reason the world ended and killed billions of people but it still breaks my heart. I am happy to know sheā€™s dead and not infected lumbering around somewhere.
Richie is exhausted and so am I were going to take a brake here and continue on to Atlanta tomorrow.
Everything is packed up and weā€™re ready to go. Last night was rough I kept watch while Richie slept I hate to admit it but I think Iā€™m falling in love with him. I never really had a first love I live for 13 years at NARU but I was the oldest kid there by far by the time any of the boys were close to my age I was already jaded and thinking about leaving so I didnā€™t pay any attention to them but Richie is different when I found him he was so helpless and lost now heā€™s strong, confident and heā€™s so loyal to me. I donā€™t want to speak to soon by I think he might feel the same way I guess time will tell we still have a long road to walk together. Speaking of walking Atlanta here we come.
Chapter 6
Road to Atlanta
We ran into a group of survivors hiding in a shed on the outskirts of Charlotte on our way home two parents and a little girl they were all bitten and waiting to turn they begged us to put them down before they turned so I did but I think it took a toll on Richie. Heā€™s been almost silent since it mustā€™ve reminded him of his parents and little sister I hope the day never comes that one of us get bitten and the other one has to decide whether or not to do it but if it does I hope Richie has what it takes to put me down if not I hope I get to do it myself before I turn but I shouldnā€™t be thinking about things like that. Thinking about your own death is a pretty sure-fire way to make it happen.
We ran into a pretty large group of infected mustā€™ve been about 20 of them but all of them behaved the same as the one that jumped me on the roof of the gun store back in Raleigh. I guess that confirms that it wasnā€™t a once off thing but I still wonder what causes it maybe Iā€™ll find out one day. We took them all down and continued on I hate to admit it but I really enjoy killing freaks call it therapy I guess. Richie is running low on ammo for his 12 gauge. There should be a gun store in about 30 miles so we should be able to restock there. My ammo supplies are also running a bit low only got about a hundred rounds per gun left. I know that sounds like a lot but with all the freaks on the roads it barely enough after Raleigh I had about a 500 per gun. Lets hope we donā€™t run into any large hordes till we get to the gun store.
We made it to the gun store just to find it controlled by 2 less than friendly guys. They opened fire as soon as they same us. We returned fire and weā€™re about to enter the store. Richie kicked the door down and I rushed in I let of two shots taking down the one guy the other was a second away from filling me with bullets from his Uzi but luckily Richie put a round through his chest and another through his right eye before he could. Thank god. I donā€™t know what I would do without him. Weā€™ve decided to rest tonight and continue tomorrow morning.
Dixie: ā€œHey Richieā€
Richie: ā€œHey Dixieā€
Dixie: ā€How you feeling buddyā€
Richie: ā€Oh you know always OKā€
Dixie: ā€Thatā€™s good buddyā€
Richie: ā€œHey Dixie thank you for everything you really are the best thing that ever happened to meā€
Dixie: ā€Donā€™t mention it buddy I love youā€
Weā€™re almost 20 miles away from Atlanta and Iā€™m not hopeful judging by smell. Iā€™m guessing its going to be a lot worse than Charlotte but weā€™ll have to wait and see.
Weā€™ve made it to the outskirts of Atlanta and its as bad as I thought there are hundreds of body piles almost the size of buildings. The living freaks move around the city streets like blood through the veins of the body. Some of them are engaged in massive fights with other groups ripping each other apart.
Weā€™re going in tomorrow but for now Richieā€™s hunting while I scope out the area. I hope he brings some venison anything but rabbit. Iā€™m sick of rabbit meat. When he comes back I want to try and cuddle up to him and see what happens
Richie and I have eaten and weā€™re getting ready to sleep. I asked Richie if I could sleep in his sleeping bag with him. He looked at me like I was crazy but once I insisted I was serious I could see the joy on his face so we cuddled up for the night and went to sleep
Wow it felt so amazing sleeping in Richieā€™s arms and today everything feels different but in a good way everything just feels more intimate we had an amazing conversation about life this morning and it feels like our bond is on a whole new level. Its time to go explore Atlanta there should be an old NARU field hospital on the North-side of town but weā€™ve got a whole city to get through before that.
Chapter 7
Atlanta
Atlanta is a nightmare right now weā€™re stuck in a pharmacy bunch of freaks trying to get to us. Iā€™m busy wiring up a pipe bomb while Richie holds the door then when Iā€™m done BOOM
Richie Move....
BOOM....
Well thatā€™s one way to deal with freaks. Always hate being covered in gore though. Weā€™re near the city centre now and its as bad as we thought the place is infested with freaks every building, street and alley weā€™ve been fighting for every mile weā€™ve been moving basically carving our way through the city leaving streets flooded in blood but its worth it I can see the NARU hospital and it looks like I might be able to get in this time.
Weā€™re Exploring the NARU hospital and its a goldmine I found a bunch of old documentation on the virus and even some reports of small towns keeping quarantine for years after the Fall. Thereā€™s also apparently an old supply and weapons depot nearby so were going there next.
Richie has been opening up a lot his little sister was out playing when a freak got her. Her parents couldnā€™t put her down so she turned and bit them he hid in the bathroom for 2 days before I got there and put then out of the misery. I wish I could understand how he feels because I never had anyone except my mom and I lost her so young so it never really affected me. I love him so much. This would be so difficult without him.
We made it to the NARU supply depot and it basically empty I mean it make sense Atlanta was one of the first city to fall due to vast number of infected that moved in from the nearby NARU detention camp. That was a bright idea locking up a bunch infected in one place and expecting the place to last. So the city fell to chaos pretty quickly and NARU withdrew most likely taking everything with them that or it was looted after the city fell doesnā€™t matter now its almost night and we should get some rest weā€™re going to camp on a nearby rooftop.
Sitting on the roof with Richie and a fire I canā€™t help but feel like life isnā€™t that bad yeah its not what it used to be but I mean I have food and freedom and someone I love what more could someone want from life. Looking out at the desolate streets full of freaks well except the streets we pushed through I see the death of the old world and the birth of a new one.
I should get to sleep we got a long road to Birmingham tomorrow. Its so warm and cosy pressed up against Richie.
Chapter 8
The Road To Birmingham
On our way out of Atlanta we ran into a huge freak and I mean a huge motherfucker mustā€™ve been at least 10 feet tall and covered in muscle it looked like it was made of at least 5 other freaks. He tossed Richie against a car and knocked him out I managed to chop one of its arms off before it threw me 10 feat in the air and I crashed down on my back and passed out when I woke up Richie was putting round after round in the things chest and it still wouldnā€™t go down to I ran jumped on its back and used my machete to chop the freaks head off and burnt the body with a molotov just to be sure the thing was dead
Richie was pretty beat up and Iā€™m not going to lie so was I my back hurts like a bitch but we keep on going no matter what because we still have each other. Still I wonder how those freaks got combined into that thing. Maybe thatā€™s why they pile the way they do so they can combine into something bigger I remember something in one of the NARU document mentioning the virus being able to cause ā€œcellular recombinationā€ so I wonder if thatā€™s not maybe what happened and if it is it means things are about to get a lot worse and a lot more dangerous.
Weā€™re about 50 miles always from Birmingham now. The road has been pretty quite only the occasional group of freaks and the group of raiders we ran into outside a gas station awhile back but this time we got the drop on them and not the other way round gave all three of them a new hole in the head Richie was worried that they might be survivors till we found Sandra tied up in the gas station bathroom turns out the bastards grabbed her from her family farm during the night a few days ago and have been taking turns on her over and over since then. We agreed to take her home its the least we could do after everything that happened to her. When we got her home we found the place burnt down and her family butchered outside. Iā€™m guessing after they grabbed her the bastards came back to finish the job. Sheā€™s decided to stick with us sheā€™s a lot older than me and Richie. She used to be a nurse before the Outbreak she dealt with some of the first infected until NARU took over the hospitals. When things really started to go bad she moved back to Alabama to her old family farm to live with her parents they managed to set everything up before the Fall and have been living there since well till recently. Sheā€™s pretty shook about the whole situation but she should be okay in a day or two. Weā€™ve all lost something in this new world.
Weā€™ve made it to the outskirts of Birmingham and the place is a fortress looks like remnants of the US military and NARU have fortified the place they have watch towers, auto-turrents and armed patrols. Also looks like they have a lot of military hardware. I know better than to approach the main gate NARU has a shoot on site order for all there quarantine zones no reason to assume this place would be any different. Still I have to get a look inside. Tonight while Richie and Sandra set up camp Iā€™m going to look around and see if I can find a way in. I have to know whatā€™s going on here.
Iā€™ve taken a look around and Iā€™ve found a way in through an old sewer pipe running into an old factory from there I should be able to sneak into the city and have a look around maybe they have some new information on the virus or at least I should be able to find some weapons for Sandra
Chapter 9
Birmingham
Richie and Sandra are waiting for me back at camp while I go explore the city. I left most of my kit behind except my Glock and combat knife. Iā€™m not planning on getting into any fights and if I do I want the finished as quickly as possible. Iā€™ve made it to the sewer pipe it should lead me to the sewer grate I saw on the other side of the fence from there I should have free reign over the city as long as I avoid the NARU patrols and donā€™t draw to much attention to myself.
Iā€™ve made it into the city and it looks like something out of a George Orwell novel. Security cameras on every street, Iā€™ve seen security forces beat a man to death and another group drag a young women kicking and screaming into an abandoned building. I hate to say it but I think life is better outside with the freaks than in here. Canā€™t say Iā€™m surprised thereā€™s a reason I left the NARU security forces and the safe zone. Lets just say civilian life and happiness has never been on their priority list. I can see a NARU supply depot I should be able to get a uniform and standard load out last I remember NARU doesnā€™t have a way of removing employees from the database so my security id number should still work.
I was right NARU never changes I just used my id to get a brand new NARU-P-2a NARU's home grown assault rifle basically its everything the AR-15 is but better its literally a gun made for killing freaks and you can feel it. I always wished I stole one when I left but I guess better late than never I also scanned through a few of the latest security reports and it seems like big guys like we fought back in Atlanta are becoming more common as well as a new faster infected with razor sharp claws that hunt and ambush their victims. We havenā€™t ran into one of those yet and I hope we donā€™t any time soon. I hope Richie and Sandra are okay, they should be we have no shortage of fire-power but I still worry. Iā€™m going to keep taking a look around and maybe find out how theyā€™ve maintained quarantine for so long
Well I got my answer and its not a good one. The NARU higher ups here basically outlawed being sick. Anyone with any symptoms that might be HRV-1 are immediately executed and burnt without exception I guess thatā€™s one way to maintain quarantine but I canā€™t help but wonder how many thousands of innocent people have died to maintain it.
I think its about time I get out of here and back to Richie and Sandra.
I made it back to camp. Iā€™m so happy to be back with Richie. He went out hunting and brought back a nice fat wild pig for dinner. Sandra is looking a lot better as well she still has that distant look in her eye but that should go away soon
Next stop Montgomery Alabama.
Chapter 10
The Road to Montgomery
I still canā€™t get it out of my head. The freaks are changing getting more dangerous, if I understand correctly the longer they are infected the more unstable the virus gets leading to mutations. I hope this doesnā€™t mean that the longer we survive the harder its going to get but thereā€™s no point in worrying about whether or not the freaks are going to be stronger in the future as long as we make sure we get stronger too it should work out just fine. Richie and I are doing really well our love kinda makes everything a lot easier. Gives us a reason if that makes sense Sandra on the other hand is kinda dead weight if Iā€™m being honest but its not her fault. Sheā€™s been through a lot Richie and I do our best to look out for her and take care of her. I just wish sheā€™d start to adjust to life out here she still winches every time we take out a group of freaks or thugs and sheā€™s a bleeding heart. Yesterday as we were going past a little abandoned convenience store we heard a little girl crying when we asked what was wrong she said they were trapped and needed help. It was obviously a trap we could see the store was fortified and the little girl looked too happy for a kid whose parents were stuck and dying but Sandra insisted we go in and help and what do you know the kids parents are perfectly healthy and holding us at gun point luckily Iā€™m pretty quick on the draw and managed to put two rounds through the fathers chest and Richie tackled the mom. I walked up to the big dude and put one through the head to make sure the mom learns her lesson. We agreed to let her and her daughter live as long as the promised to stop robbing travellers. Sandra couldnā€™t handle the fact that I finished the dad off even though I think that was better than leaving his family to watch him bleed out because there was no way he would have survive I shot him through both of his lungs they would have filled up with blood and he would have chocked to death I did him a favour by putting him down but she didnā€™t see it that way even threatened to go it on her own until Richie and I told her to go ahead if she really thought it was the best thing for her. She then decided to stick with us
Weā€™re nearly at the outskirts of Montgomery, we just passed the old civil rights monument. The roads been a bit too still I have a bad feeling about what weā€™re going to find when we get there

2024.05.15 01:23 NickJames32 VA Benefit Dependents

So I saw that I was approved today for 70 percent but my award letter states Iā€™m being paid as a single veteran with no dependents. I immediately double checked my dependents and my wife and daughter are listed as my dependents but not for VA benefits. I called the 1-800 number and had a nice lady assist me and send in a request to have them added to my award. Has this happened to anyone else before? Just curious how it will affect back pay since the award is dated from March 1 2023. Iā€™ve also had a dependency claim for my 2nd child stuck at received for two months šŸ™„.

2024.05.15 01:19 LostWorked AITA for wanting to reunite with my mother even though she's the one who had an affair?

I am NOT THE OOP, that is u/ExotiqueMagnifique
Trigger Warnings:>! Infidelity, Forced Marriage!<
1st Post: June 19th, 2023
So, I (18m) was born in Port Said in Egypt when my mother was 21 and my father was 38. My father had invested into my grandfather's business and helped stop it from failing and getting married to was pretty much his "reward". It sounds icky to think about but that's how it is in places like that sometimes. When I was ten, my mom admitted to my dad that she'd been having an affair with a guy named Sayid who was eight years younger than her and asked for a divorce.
Somehow, my dad got actual proof of the divorce beyond just her words and from what I understand, infidelity can be treated as a serious crime in Egypt. So, he got her to agree to a divorce where she gave up full rights to me in exchange for complete silence from him. Later that year, my dad and I moved to Canada and my mom and Sayid got married.
My mom would write me letters for a bit and mail presents so I knew that she and Sayid got married, moved to Cairo where they both got jobs and they had a daughter. From what I've been able to tell from the letters is that she's happy and I don't really ever remember her being that way. Eventually the letters became less frequent and now I get like three a year. I got one earlier this month where she told me how proud she was that I was going to graduate from a Canadian school and it made me cry.
After graduation in July, I'm going to Egypt with my uncle to see family in Port Said. My girlfriend is going too because her family is in some city in the Sinai. I told my uncle that I want to take some time to go and see my mother and he seemed uncomfortable with the idea because to him, the idea of the trip was to introduce me and my girlfriends' families to each other so we can get married after university. He talked to my dad about it and my dad told me I'd be wrong to go.
My dad pointed out that while he'd taken full custody and may have been wrong to do so, my mother had never done anything other than write me a letter, she'd never tried to add me on social media, she'd never come to Canada to visit, she hardly ever phoned anymore. When I tried to argue he started talking about how if she'd wanted to be with Sayid she would have divorced the right way and what she did showed that she didn't think about me. When I told him that I still want to meet her he huffed and said he was disappointed and seemed very sad afterward. I know she really hurt him but am I the asshole for wanting to see her?
2nd Post: May 1st, 2024
Thankfully, I didn't make a big post so I got a few comments which were focused on being helpful.
I did go with my uncle to Port Said and I did meet with my girlfriend's family and I think that I won them all over. We're not formally engaged or anything but we will be in about a year. Egypt is a lot different than I remember as a kid, people are a lot less open and more guarded. My girlfriend's family thought that because I was from Canada, I'd be partial to the MB because apparently immigrant kids are. It was really weird.
But I did go to Cairo to see my mom even though I promised my dad that I wouldn't see my mom. I know that what she did was wrong and I do resent her for doing it but I don't want to be the guy who didn't see his mom at all when he was a kid. I mean, if I'm getting engaged next year then I won't be a kid then, I'll have to actually grow up. I don't know, it's a weird thought process but it's mine.
So I convinced my uncle and we went to Cairo. He called my mom to tell her that he wanted to meet her but he didn't tell her that I was coming because he didn't want word to somehow reach back to my dad. They don't talk so that was weird but I didn't bring it up because I was happy that he agreed. My mom works in finance for one of the biggest film studios for Cairo so she took the day off when we went but her husband was at work and her daughter was at school (she's doing some kind of summer classes or something). We went early morning so we could leave before they came back.
It's weird because my mom isn't how I remember her exactly. She has short hair now and she looks really, really young. She wasn't wearing anything traditional. And weirdest of all is how tall she is, she was almost as tall as me and was taller than my uncle. I mean obviously as a kid I thought she was tall but we all do then but she's legitimately like six foot one or something.
She let me and my uncle in when we went but she didn't recognize me at first and it was awkward so I didn't say anything but then she suddenly did and she hugged me and broke down crying and kept saying thank you to my uncle and she actually fell because it was like her legs couldn't hold her up and I had to. My uncle excused himself and said he was going to go meet with some friends in the city and it was nice being alone and when we were, I started crying too. And I think it was because she kept calling me by all the babynames she had for me in Arabic and saying things like "my heart is back".
After we both calmed down I asked her why she stopped writing and she told me that she started hating herself for not being in my life and started believing that I hated her. That she doesn't have social media so she couldn't find me online and that email wasn't personal. She eventually tried something drastic and her husband got her mental health help which brought her to a good place but it led to her writing a lot less.
She was sad when I told her that I would be leaving when my uncle came back because we'd be going back to Canada in a few days but she said it didn't matter because I was still her heart. She promised to write more again. She also said that she knew she couldn't come to Canada for my engagement and my marriage when it happens but pretty much begged me to livestream them all and that way my dad won't know. She barely told me anything about her because she kept making me tell her about things I've done but she did tell me about her job and all the actors that she's met.
It sucked when my uncle came back and I had to go and we cried again but I felt better about it, even though my uncle made me promise not to tell my dad. Since then, she has been writing to me a lot more and we've been emailing as well. She actually sent me a video of her and a top actress in Egypt where she got the actress to say hi to me and my girlfriend.
I don't know how many of you are going to read this giant thing that I wrote, but I am thankful for the few of you who helped me out and helped me make my mind. I guess I have felt a lot better since then because I know that my mom loves me.

2024.05.15 00:53 Prof_Tickles The Exorcist (1973) isnā€™t just about a girl whoā€™s possessed by a demon. Thereā€™s deep themes & subtext.

The underlying theme of exorcist is conveyed by the motif of absentee fathers.
Reganā€™s father is out of her life, Father Karrasā€™s biological father isnā€™t in the picture, Father Merrin is absent most of the movie, and God the spiritual father seems to have abandoned his children because the world is descending into depravity.
ā€œDo you know what she did? Your Cunting daughter?ā€
ā€œGet away from my cunt!ā€
ā€œLick me!ā€
ā€œFuck me!ā€
Ever wonder why that particular word ā€œcunt?ā€
Who says that word constantly? Burke. Who frequently goes to Reganā€™s room. By the way, how do the police find Burkeā€™s body? With his head twisted behind his back. Now do you think the author made a symbolic choice there? Because I do. I think itā€™s meant to convey how two faced he was. He wasnā€™t going to Reganā€™s room to chat. By the wayā€¦notice how Burke Dennings has the same amount of letters in his first and last name as another infamous director known for having sex with children - Roman Polanski.
Burke asks ā€œWhatā€™s for Desert?ā€ The camera cuts to Reganā€¦asleep in her bed.
Itā€™s also strange that when Chris discusses a potential love interest with her daughter, twelve year old Regan is immediately skeptical that he might be using her for sex. Why is a twelve year old girl that cynical? Why is her default that men only want sex from women? Could she be speaking from experience, hmmm?
Notice how Regan wets herself? A sign of sexual abuse.
Ever wonder why most of the things the demon says or makes Regan do are profanely sexual?
Ever wonder why when father Merrin confronts the statue of Pazuzu, its serpentine phallus is emphasized?
Rape is an ancient evil.
And how can a good god, a loving god, sit by while children are sexually abused. Has god left? Did he abandon us?
No.
Karras sacrifices himself to protect the innocent. In order to quell the demons of this world, the good must do that from time to time.
Exorcist III revisits and even expands on this.
Evil exists so that good doesnā€™t become meaningless in a fallen world. So that acts of kindness, compassion , and altruism never lose their ability to inspire awe and hope in people.

2024.05.15 00:50 Junepero Storyā€™s of panem 114 pre games

"Good evening, tributes, and welcome back to the stories of Panem. Before we begin, I would like to thank Christian Blanco, the original writer of "Tales of the Hunger Games," and Lauren from "Panem Reborn." Now, since I don't have too much else to say, let's go!
Game 114 (150):
District 1: Jacqueline and Facet
District 2: Malona and Crane
District 3: Darlene and Colt
District 4: Brook and Harbor
District 5: Unknown girl and Darian
District 6: Fifi and Atlas
District 7: Bloom and Amarylio
District 8: Scarlet and Carter
District 9: Zest and Mazin
District 10: Zulu and Mateo
District 11: Unknown girl and Lee
District 12: Dorothy and Hargree
District 14: Both unknown
A plethora of excitement crossed the capital over the past year, especially their beloved commentator Camilia Ravenstil's pregnancy, which resulted in her giving birth to twins named Amelia and Cyrus, to honor the past two Game Makers. Even Winnow's victory was still in high popularity.
As the reapings rolled around on July 4th, many of the capital citizens flew to their TVs and viewing parties. Winnow made her journey from district to district with her mother and entourage from the capital. When she landed in District 4 on the late morning of the third day of the reapings, she was greeted by Mayor Chigwell. After a rather long tour of the district's harbors and jewelry stores, they stopped at a nearby seaside diner for a brief lunch. Viewers in Snow Square laughed at Winnow's face of pure boredom as Mayor Chigwell ranted about the latest trends in the district's fashion. Winnow's face soon turned to relief as the mayor brought her back to the district's reaping square.
After a little bit of time, the light blue-catered youths were walked into the square by rather impatient Peacekeepers. Mayor Chigwell finished up his speech before welcoming Winnow to the stage. She gave out a rather tired smile at the district's population before talking about the joys of being a victor. She then asked if any of the girls wanted to volunteer. After hearing no response, she then took out the name of 17-year-old Brook Branachok.
Brook was found in the back of the 17-year-old section. Her platinum blonde hair made her quite noticeable to viewers in Snow Square. She sighed dramatically before flipping her blonde hair back in a dramatic manner as her piercing blue eyes even made some of her nearby peers shudder in fear as Brook arrived at the stage and shook Winnow's hand. "She was later described as a 'rich high school bully' by commentators. The girls in a mood," Winnow laughed before shaking Brookā€™s hand before walking to the male reaping bowl. After a brief silence, she thrusted her hand elbow-deep before taking out the name of 17-year-old Harbor Zanders. A brief pause soon followed by a discussion as a boy with dark brown curly hair with a smattering of light brown freckles on his face gave a guilt-ridden smile before walking up to the stage. However, as a group of teens his age giggled, Harbor turned back and glared at the giggling boys as they suddenly grew quiet. Harbor soon took out a flask of wine. Capital citizens laughed as Harbor found one of his friends and tossed it to him before walking back up to the stage. Back in the capital, both Camilia and Silca and even most of the audience had been surprised at the pair's striking attitudes.
Harbor then shook Brook and Winnowā€™s hand before they were announced as this year's tributes for District 4 before moderate applause followed. Winnow soon brought the two tributes to the drawing room before she made her journey to District 3 with her entourage.
Brook was visited by her mother, father, and four younger sisters clinging dearly onto their sister. After successfully removing her sobbing siblings, Brookā€™s mother calmed her daughter down as her father, Coral, gave the best advice he could offer. Peacekeepers soon came in to bring Brook to the waiting dock. She waved and said sheā€™d "At least try to win."
As for Harbor, he was visited by his mother, father, and his younger and older brothers. As his siblings were saddened as well as his parents, Harbor embraced them all in a tight hug. Before he was needed at the dock, his girlfriend Melanie even joined in this hug causing Harbor to show some emotion.
After a few more minutes, peacekeepers soon brought Harbor out of the room to join Brook at the dock as the pair boarded the jet boat to the capital.
"Man, you've been through the ringer, haven't you?"
"Same goes to you, girl. Haven't seen you in a year."
The pair soon chatted with each other about their experiences at the academy and gossiping about old friends. Brook, in particular, laughed hysterically when Harbor mentioned how his ex-girlfriend got karma returned to her when she crashed a birthday party at Harborā€™s dad's bar, resulting in the peacekeepers putting her in the district's jail for a month.
However, as the pair tried to dine upon the food provided, the boat hit a bump resulting in Brook, Harbor, four avoxes, the dining table, and nine peacekeepers to go flying up into the sky. Thankfully, no harm came between the fifteen as the peacekeepers then helped the two back up as a new lunch buffet was arrived. And so did their mentor, Sienna Shoreville, victor of the 105th Hunger Games, arrived in.
"I don't want you two to ally with the 2s, maybe the 1s, depends on how they are."
Brook looked curiously at Sienna before saying, "Didn't Anamaria get her neck snapped by the girl a year prior?"
Sienna groaned in annoyance at remembering this cringeworthy death before walking to the bar carriage before inviting the two to join. As Sienna asked the pair about their lives, she laughed while listening to Harbor telling some stories of working at his dad's bar and the customers who would frequent the place. However, when Sienna asked Brook about her life and possible skills, Brook sighed before saying, "I guess looking prettyā€™s a skill."
Sienna laughed before replying, "For getting sponsors, yes, but not when you're in a fight to the death."
As this reality check wiped the smile from Brookā€™s face, she and Harbor finished up their meals before listening more to Siennaā€™s lecture about the games. And as an act to see if her tributes were actually paying attention, she quizzed them on the dos and don'ts in the capital. As Harbor passed this quiz, Sienna laughed before allowing him some "Capital Goodies." However, as Brook blatantly failed the quiz, she laughed and called Harbor a "suck-up" before walking to her room.
Sienna looked at Harbor for a second before saying, "I guess sheā€™s either related to the mayor or is a spoiled rotten brat."
"She usually brags about her rich family members, always thinks she's better than everyone."
"And trust me, the girl ain't pretty."
Sienna and Snow Square laughed as she then patted him on the back before""telling him to get a 'nap' in before they were to arrive in the capital."
He nodded before Brook returned. It is unknown what the two girls talked about for the remainder of the trip, but our historians have noted that Brookā€™s scowl from before had dissolved for the time being. As evening rolled around, the pair from District 4's boat landed at Mcaine dock as an excited crowd of capital citizens swarmed the pair from 4 and their very popular mentor, who had been giving out her new jewelry to some of her lucky fans.
Brook and Harbor performed rather well, with the capital citizens enjoying their "feisty sailor attitudes." Even some reporters from Golden 24 put up a most popular tribute poll with Harbor and Brook being in the top 3, narrowly beating Fifi from District 6.
Sienna then thanked the capital for their time before taking her tributes to the limousine. Once it arrived at the accommodation tower, they arrived at the 4th floor. After arriving, Sienna called their stylist, Orivile Cartwright.
Orivile embraced Sienna before showing his tributes his pre-made outfits, which were Sailor themed, which made Brook and Harbor smile. Due to them having a fair amount of time left, Sienna displayed the post-reaping commentaries before turning on the commentary for District 1 as Orivile worked away at the pairs' outfits.
Mayor Cassino greeted a very exhausted Winnow Fraiser. Also accompanying the mayor was Realm Jones, victor of the 101st Hunger Games, and Quintin Mahoney, victor of the 108th Hunger Games, joined Winnow on the initial tour. Winnow appeared to be star-struck sitting between both iconic victors. She even turned around to Quintin saying, "I can't believe I get to meet a legend like you."
Quintin laughed before giving Winnow some comic relief during the tour, telling her about his games and even asking a few questions about her own games. At the conclusion of the tour, Realm's eyes lit up in delight as he saw his own capital mentor, Narcissa Valentions, warmly embracing her mentee.
"So what're you doing here?"
"I had some time off. I figured I'd come by and see how you've been doing. Business at my shop has been bustling as ever, so I figured Iā€™d take a break to see my first victor."
As Realm and Narcissa soon walked over to the talent demonstrations together, Quintin laughed as Mayor Cassino welcomed the scarlet youths. Winnow was then brought up to the stage. She asked if any of the youths wanted to volunteer, becoming surprised when 10 ladies and 8 gentlemen volunteered for the role of tribute for District 1. Silca joked with Camilia, saying, "It's normal for them, isn't it?"
With the ladies' many remarkable weapon displays and archery displays, 18-year-old Jacqueline Faywether had been announced as the final volunteer to try her luck. She smiled at many nearby cameras as even one enthralled boy in the audience fainted seeing the rather extractive career girl.
She shot 10 arrows blindfolded and threw 8 knives in the letter J form, causing even more ripples of laughter sounded in the square. The mayor announced the two passing tributes. As for the two tributes, Jacquelineā€™s only remaining opponent, Jewel, had almost won the title of female tribute but had a stroke leading to Jacqueline to win the title of female tributes.
As for the guys, 18-year-old Facet Elixithorn had made himself a crowd and capital favorite by his spear-throwing display and to ending in a handstand with wild applause following. Three guys made it to the debate round with Realm this time asking the questions. With poise and dignity, Lanceā€™s strong mind and less nerves had won him the title of male tribute for District 1.
After the pair were bathed and stylized, they were then brought out to the square as they then shook Winnowā€™s hand before she announced Jacqueline and Facet were announced as the tributes for District 1.
And after a brief meeting with their families and friends with not too much emotion, Jacqueline and Facet were then brought to the train as the train began their journey to the capital.
Narcissa, Realm, and Quintin then greeted their tributes with Jacqueline and Facet being surprised seeing their district's first victorā€™s mentor. Quintin soon brought the four to the table having a brief dinner with Narcissa asking the two if they had any skills besides their ā€˜weapons of choice.ā€™ Quintin was pleased to hear of Jacqueline's diverse skills of weaponry before bragging to her district partner about her achievements at the Kobayashi self-defense center. However, instead of being jealous, Facet asked his district partner about her accomplishments.
Realm and Quintin were pleased with their tributes getting along with each other before showing the past reapings in the districts. Facet and Jacqueline laughed hysterically at the District 2 reaping games even Narcissa let out a smile. Quintin then asked the pair if there had been ā€œOther commendable allies besides the non-dazzling loonies from 2 besides Jade and Hermina, they are dazzling.ā€ Realm also chimed in adding that they should ā€œLook for others.ā€
However, as Jacqueline was going to ask why Realm shushed her and said, ā€œThe career pack has their on and off years.ā€ Jacqueline nodded before Quintin continued talking to the pair about the past reapings. Facet and Jacqueline even suggested the girl from 3 and the pair from 4 as potential allies. Realm appeared to consider this before Quintin added in that ā€œHe would see what he could do.ā€
As the pair nodded, the pair from 1ā€™s train arrived in the outskirts of the capital. Narcissa soon styled the pair up, quietly complaining to Realm of how Jacqueline's red hair and Facet's long blonde curls were impossible to tame. The train then arrived in the capital with the usual excited capital crowd marveling scarlet couture. Jacqueline and Facet were both outstanding hits with the capital citizens maintaining proper etiquette. However, two capital lights had to be removed from the audience after heckling Facet about his district partner. Narcissa then wished Jacqueline and Facet luck before kissing Realm and Quintin on the cheek. Realm and Quintin then thanked the capital citizens for their time before bringing the pair from 1 to the limousine as it brought them to their accommodation tower.
Once they arrived at their accommodation tower apartment, they were greeted by their stylist, Aurelia Heavensbee. She smiled at the four of them before whisking them to the dining table showing them her designs for the parade. Jacqueline in particular was marveling at her long ruby dress as Facet jokingly told Jacqueline that they looked like a ā€œwalking jewel.ā€ However, Aurelia frowned as Realm glared at Facet as the smile was wiped from his face. The pair then groaned in annoyance at their stylist's bland outfits.
Before the pair were then brought to the parade moments later, Facet and Jacqueline were immediately approached by Malona and Crane, both from 2 introducing themselves. However, Facet cut the pair off from further words, saying, ā€œthe career pack is gonna be different this year.ā€ As Malona protested, Jacqueline said, ā€˜thanks but no thanks.ā€ Both Jade Heath and Herminia Gold looked at the District 1 mentors in bewilderment as they also reciprocated. However, the pair from 1 then came over to the pair from 4 chatting with their mentor.
ā€œDarling, you look stunning.ā€
ā€œOh, thank you, you dazzling ruby.ā€
Brook and Jacqueline seemed to obtain an instant connection. As Facet complemented Harborā€™s outfit. Harbor smiled good-naturedly back before chatting away with him about lives in their districts. Facet soon asked the pair if they would be interested in an alliance in the arena; however, Sienna leaned in this conversation asking ā€œWhere are the 2s?ā€
Jacqueline then replied that they were ā€œtrying something new this yearā€ before pointing at the pair making fun of Mateo from 10ā€™s cow-themed parade outfit. Sienna shrugged as Brook and Harbor warmly accepted the offer as Facet and Jacqueline smiled saying ā€œsplendid see you soon.ā€ When the pair from 1 got back, Realm popped up asking ā€œYou with the 4s this year.ā€ As the pair nodded, Realm smiled and nodded with Quintin and Aurelia doing their touch-ups to their tributes' outfits. Sienna commended the pair for ā€œmaking friends already,ā€ she still urged caution before re-adding in ā€œThe 2 mentors there are my ride or dies but still keep your eyes on them if needed.ā€
The pair then nodded as the parade then began. Regal applause and cheers sounded for the pair from 1, but Nico Anderson lead editor of Anderson Fashion applauded for their strong impression but said the dress was ā€œSo Basic.ā€ The pair from 4 were given a large amount of applause as Harbor and Brook waved at the audience even performing an old dance known as a ā€œJigā€. The pair were also given a boatload of flowers and chocolate resulting in both Brook and Harbor sneezing uncontrollably at the end of the parade during President Mcaine's speech. Best dressed was ultimately awarded to the pair from 4 with their sailor-themed couture.
When the pair from 1 arrived back in their district apartment, they were glaring daggers from afar at Aurelia,
ā€œHow did it go.ā€
ā€œHow did it feel getting harshly criticized on live TV.ā€
Quintin shot Jacqueline a disapproving look as Realm asked if there other worthy allies. Both mentors were pleased hearing their success with the pair from 4 before Realm reassured them that they still looked ā€œdazzlingā€ before sending his tributes to bed. However, with the pair from 4, Sienna warmly embraced the two of her tributes on a best-dressed win. As Orville also joined in the group hug has the 4 of them partied till around 11:30 pm until Sienna sent her tributes to bed as she and Orville stayed up a while longer.
Bright and early the following morning, the mentors ushered their tributes to the training center with a very frustrated Apollo Price. Unfortunately, during his speech about the rules of the training center, he tasered Mateo from 10 after he tried to make a break for the door after Priceā€™s speech concluded. Mateoā€™s mentor Bianca Jr Ramon rolled her eyes before dropping her mentee at the knife station.
The newly made career alliance between the District 1 and 4 tributes conquered most of the training stations with Facet and Harbor bonding over dropping and throwing large weights causing Fifi from 6 to wet herself earning a smirk from the boys. When Mateo awoke from his unconscious slumber, he immediately ran to Mateo asking him to spare. Since Mateo was no older than 14 and he was the youngest tribute the careers laughed before Facet told him to ā€œBuzz offā€. However, as Mateo continued to pester the career boys, Harbor gave Facet a knowing look before accepting Mateoā€™s sparing request.
A short crowd of tributes went to the jousting stations as Mateo and Harbor were briefed on the rules before being allowed to go at it. It was no surprise that Harbor won all 4 rounds.
ā€œEasyā€.
Harbor smiled warmly before being tackled to the ground by the 14-year-old boy from 10.
ā€œYou think you're better than me HA you rotten career boy.ā€
As Price Facet Brook and even Sienna tried to step in Harbor held his hand up to stay back. Harbor then threw the boy off him before pinching the nerve on Mateoā€™s neck knocking him clean out. As training master Price and Sienna looked at him in bewilderment before Price smiled saying
ā€œGood job kidā€.
Harbor smiled before Facet and he returned to the weight station and survival, knife and axe stations even giving advice to Amarylio from 7 with starting fires.
As for the girls they mainly gossiped to themselves and having ā€œGirl talkā€ at the aquatic station sword station and archery stations. When any tribute tried to use the archery station both Jacqueline and Brook would melodicaly but fiercely slam there weapons into the targtes.
At the end of the traing head master price brought the tributes to the asscors room. Due to the request of the new head game maker the tributes assesment scores were kept strictly confidential. However tabloid reporters manage to scoop out that Jacqueline Facet Harbor and Malona from to managed to score at the top of the pack with a 11. Brook and Amarylio scored a 9 and at the bottom of the pack was Mateo and Hargree from 12 scoring a 3 each.
Both Sienna Quintin and Realm were beyond impressed with there tributes scores before theyā€™re stylist sketched up potential outfits with there mentors soon quizing the pairs on interview educate.
Camilia Ravenstil welcomed the excited capital audience modeling a rather gothic dress that made her look like a ghost tree by the audience. The audience even laughed good naturedly as Camilia shook for a second as leaves fell of her costume as if wind had hit her. She then exictedly welcomed Jacqueline from 1. She was adorned in a stunning pink and red dress with her hair put up in braids. The two had some gossip before reavling to the audience that she was a decdent of Emarld Rivelta victor of the 34th hunher games. Camilia slapped her knee and laughed saying ā€œThats who you resmbl I guessed right I knew it!ā€
As the girls chatted the audience loved her regal responses to Camilas questions as even mentoning the carrer alliance brought the crowd into rapsous cheers, even when she talked about her allies from 4 openly. She then kissed Camilia on the hand before bowing which caused even more cheers before she was dismissed back stage. Facet was welcomed in next marveling a sleeveless pink suit with ruby jeans making many of the capital audience to swoon over his physeigue. Even Camilia was taken aback by his charm and confidence as he spoke about his training experience and the strength of his alliance with Jacqueline. His witty remarks and easygoing demeanor captivated the audience, earning him loud applause and admiration.
Later on into the night brook was welcomed in next with wild cheers and wolf whistles sounding. With her hair being dyed a pure yellow with a light brown dress resembling sand following her. She proceeded to have the same amount of banter with Camilia as Jacqueline did however Camilia cut her off as she was finshing up talking about her dads money saying ā€œHoney this is the hunger games.ā€
ā€œYeah and Ill live how I like before the games.ā€
As a few jeers sounded the rest of her interview was rather dull the only light being Camilia shooing the ā€œRegina Georgeā€ of the stage. As Camila then called Harbor loud cheers sounded again as Harbor walked on to the stage with his curly black hair and brown eyes making him quite attrauctive to many even his pirate themed coustume became an over night sensation with many fashion designers stating that they wanted this fashionable suit.
As Camilia asked Harbor about the games becoming pleased with his short but sweet responses. Even cracking some good jokes about the other competitors mainly about Bloom from 7 and Mateo from 10 . To conclude Harborā€™s inteviwed he tossed his waist coat to teh crowd as an excited gagle of captial ladies clammered for this waist coat. As his interview ended on a high. Finaly after the interview of the boy from 14 the new head game maker Natellia Swan was welcomed to the stage. Head game maker swan was adorned in a regal black gown also sporting garish make up making her resmble more of ghost then human. After introducing herself to the excited capital audience Camila smiled before shaking her hand saying that ā€œGame maker swan has alot to accept from.ā€ She laughed before giving hint out to teh audience by pointing to both of the laides dresses. Curious osund sof inteirgue soon followed as game maker swan smiled and bowed as she then left the stage as Camilia then ended the interviews there. The next morning tributes were given a breif breakefst before being brought to the arenaā€™s holding room.
This years outfits consisted of black coats with black jeans and snakers with there distristicts nymbers stickered on the back of there coats. Realm visited Facet before reminding him to stick with Jacqueline and Harbor and Brook. However before Realm finished Facet replied ā€œThat girl Brook might be problem.ā€ Realm nodded and agreed before reminding him to keep an eye on her before shaking his hand as he went into his tube. Jacqueline was visited by Quintin the pair had a similar conversation as Realm did with Facet before Jacqueline embraced Quintin and thanked him joking ā€œDistrict 1 needs more ladys.ā€ Quintin laughed before hugging her back before walking Jacqueline to her tube. As for Brook she was not visited by Sienna nor Orvilve a fact that suprised her the most but shrugged before patiently puting her hair up in a bun and waiting for the tribute call to sound. As for Harbor Sienna visted him. She embacred Harbor before reminding him to ā€œ Keep an eye on all of them.ā€
Harbor smiled before thanking Sienna for her mentor ship before Sienna walked Harbor to his tube his tube and at mid day the podiums then arose into the arena.

ā€œAzerbaijan is an increasingly repressive state with a widely-recognised corruption problemā€¦ā€
(Lack of) Human Rights and Freedoms
The Khatai District Court has ruled to extend the detention of three journalists involved in the ā€œAbzasMedia case.ā€ Bail has been denied for Ulvi Hasanli, the director of ā€œAbzasMedia,ā€ Sevinj Vagifgizi, the chief editor, and Imran Aliyev, the head of the meclis.info platform, regarding their release. Ulvi Hasanli has also filed a request to see his infant child.
Amidst the recent wave of arrests targeting journalists and civil society activists in Azerbaijan, restrictions have been imposed on the departure of public figures and media representatives from the country. Narmin Hasanova, the sister of Ulvi Hasanli, the director of the independent online publication ā€œAbzas Media,ā€ is among those affected by this travel ban. ā€œAll of this casts doubt on my future. All my plans have been disrupted. Even if they lift the ban today and allow me to return home, I wonā€™t be able to reclaim the stability Iā€™ve built over the years. Iā€™ve already lost certain things. I will have to start everything from scratch,ā€ expressed Hasanova.
There are numerous instances in Azerbaijan where individuals identified by human rights defenders as ā€œpolitical prisonersā€ have not been provided with proper medical treatment despite suffering from serious illnesses while in detention. It is reported that the health of Alasgar Mammadli, the founder of the independent internet television station ā€œToplum TV,ā€ has deteriorated. His wife, Gunay Mammadli, has provided information on this matter. She expressed concern about her husbandā€™s declining health, evident in his voice: ā€œI spoke with Alasgar today, and thereā€™s a noticeable change in his tone. Itā€™s likely due to swelling in the neck area, resembling goiter. There have been increases in measurements, impacting his vocal cords as well. For three weeks now, there has been no response from the tests conducted,ā€ said Gunay Mammadli. On April 26, Alasgar Mammadli underwent examination at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Hospital and blood tests were taken. He was then returned to the detention center. Neither Mammadli nor his lawyer has been provided with information regarding the results of the examinations.
Jailed activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev reflected on the unlawful treatment he faced. ā€œOfficials forcibly seized my documents and forcefully transported me to court. This isnā€™t the first timeā€”itā€™s become a pattern: whenever my detention is prolonged or when my bail release documents are under review, they confiscate my papers as Iā€™m escorted to court. It appears these unlawful actions are orchestrated by the Penitentiary Service leadership or at the direction of the new Minister of Justice,ā€ said Hajiyev.
As a joint demonstration of international solidarity, 240 organizations, scholars, and human rights defenders have published an open letter demanding the complete withdrawal of accusations against Gubad Ibadoghlu, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Democracy and Prosperity Party, who was released on bail recently. The letter states that Dr. Ibadoghlu is a renowned economist, a resident of the United Kingdom, and an academic collaborating with the London School of Economics (LSE). ā€œThe Azerbaijani government detained him on July 23, 2023, on baseless accusations of embezzlement and terrorism, and he remained in investigative detention for nine months until his release on bail on April 22, 2024. His trial may begin on May 20,ā€ the document notes. ā€ ā€œThe UNCAC Coalition and 239 additional signatories emphatically demand the immediate and unconditional release of our friend and colleague, Gubad Ibadoghluā€, said Mathias Huter, Managing Director of the UNCAC Coalition.
On May 10, the case of Famil Khalilov, a critic of the government and a first-degree disabled individual, regarding his detention was reviewed. As reported by ā€œAbzas Media,ā€ the Baku Court of Appeal did not uphold the complaint. The initial courtā€™s decision stands, and Khalilov remains in custody. ā€œPrison personnel struggled to bring Khalilov to court due to his limited mobility. His condition worsened during the proceedings. We will seek bail for him to be placed under house arrest. He cannot manage without external assistance,ā€ stated lawyer Bahruz Bayramov to ā€œTuran.ā€ Famil Khalilov, who sought political asylum in Sweden last year, was repatriated this year and detained on May 2. He is charged under Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code (illegal trafficking of a large quantity of narcotics), and a pretrial detention measure has been imposed. According to his relatives, Famil Khalilov was detained for criticizing the Azerbaijani government on social media. If convicted, Khalilov faces a sentence ranging from 5 to 12 years of imprisonment.
Baku City Executive Authority yet again rejected the request of the National Council of Democratic Forces to hold a rally in Baku. The refusal was justified on the grounds that the areas in front of the May 28 and Narimanov metro stations are located in parts of the city with intensive traffic, and holding meetings in these areas would cause traffic jams and violate citizensā€™ rights to free movement. The Chairperson of the National Council of Democratic Forces, Jamil Hasanli, commented on the decision, saying that the regime intends to create a closed country: ā€œThey want to create a closed country. They donā€™t want problems to be voiced, they want the people to express their protest against the policies being pursued.ā€
For years, opposition parties have been denied permission to hold rallies in the center of Baku. Instead, the government traditionally offers remote locations far from the city center for the National Council of Democratic Forces, which also includes the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party. The National Council was planning to hold a rallies in the city center on May 5 and May 12, but both requests were denied. Lawyer Samad Rahimli says that using the argument of disrupting citizensā€™ rest rights to justify the refusal of rallies is absurd.
Governance and Corruption
A recent investigation, jointly conducted by the OCCRP, Mikroskop Media (Azerbaijan), iFact (Georgia), and analyzed by Transparency International UK, has unveiled Ā£75.6 million worth of UK properties allegedly owned by Beylar Eyyubov, the Azerbaijani security chief, raising concerns about unexplained wealth.
Eyyubov, who has served as the head of security for the President of Azerbaijan for three decades, spanning the tenures of both Ilham Aliyev and his father Heydar Aliyev, has no discernible sources of substantial family wealth. However, corporate and land registry records indicate that the Eyyubov family has amassed an expensive property portfolio in the UK. This includes three mansions in Hampstead situated on the same street, in close proximity to a residence previously reported by the OCCRP in 2015 as belonging to President Aliyevā€˜s family.
These revelations stem from newly disclosed information available on the Register of Overseas Entities, which was enacted into law in 2022 following extensive advocacy efforts by Transparency International UK, alongside other NGOs and parliamentarians.
The significant gap between the cost of these properties and the known income sources of the Eyyubov family raises serious questions about the origin of the funds used to acquire these assets. Three mansions secretly owned by Eyyubovā€™s wife, Zohre Sultanova, and daughter, Elvira Eyyubova, are located in prestigious parts of North London. Elvira also owns two penthouses close to the city center and a luxury apartment. Another property owned by her is in Canterbury, and another house is situated in a coastal town in Dorset.
The family acquired these assets in England through offshore companies between 2007 and 2018. Eyyubovā€™s wife currently holds stakes in two active businesses: a renowned cafĆ© in London and a high-end hotel in the resort city of Batumi, Georgia.
In response to this investigation, Steve Goodrich Head of Research and Investigations, Transparency International UK said: ā€œAzerbaijan is an increasingly repressive state with a widely-recognised corruption problem. This is one of a series of investigations by journalists exposing vast amounts of UK assets held by the Azerbaijani elite, which have been bought with wealth of questionable provenance. Given the vast discrepancy between the Eyyubovā€™s known sources of income and the apparent value of their property portfolio, there are strong grounds for law enforcement to investigate whether these houses were acquired with the proceeds of crime.ā€

2024.05.15 00:28 TryingHappyOn Missed 90-Day window to ship car. Need advice.

Please delete if not allowed. My daughter is stationed in Germany. When she left Texas, someone told her she had a year to ship her car. Incorrect, of course, and we were wondering is it a hassle to get the letter from her commanding to get it shipped? Iā€™m just trying to put her mind at ease. Her aunt took her car and wrecked it shortly after she left the country and thatā€™s why it wasnā€™t shipped immediately. Any info is greatly appreciated.

2024.05.15 00:12 United-Tonight-6925 Vultures 1 Is A Masterpiece And Iā€™m Tired Of Acting Like Itā€™s Not

This album does not ā€œruinā€ ā€œlessenā€ or ā€œde-elevateā€ Yeā€™s discography, it only makes it better, and people who truly think the album is mid - bad are lying to themselves to make other people like them. The album holds a crisp 52 min runtime and it holds your attention throughout it all. Every song is dynamic in a way that makes each song sound like it could only come from a project of this magnitude.
Starting with the first track; Stars brings you into this masterful narrative told my Ye & Ty Dolla $ign. As the drums kick in and the choir sings in the background, Ye raps about his life like he never has. Keys To My Life has one of my favorite low key beats of Yeā€™s latter catalog with India Love singing a very melodic outro. Paid is one of the most fun and replayable Ye songs ever with a very danceable beat and an amazing ending. Talking is Yeā€™s first song with his daughter, North West, as they have fun together, showcasing their chemistry as father & daughter. The beat switch and second half is also really enjoyable, and when accompanied with the music video, you can feel holy vibes that feel magical. Back To Me is one of the best off the album, with a stellar Ty verse, a very funny Ye verse that makes me laugh all the time, and a legendary Freddie Gibbs verse. The beat is also super smooth and relaxing. Hoodrat, while being hated by smooth-brained individuals, has some of Yeā€™s best singing ever, the lyrics come over many fans heads but the top 0.5% usually enjoy the track like they should. Similar to Paid, Do It is a party banger with a great verses from everyone including Nipsey and YG who make an appearance on the song. The beat switch is also welcome as the second beat is one of the best beats of the album. Paperwork sounds like it could come from Yeezus, from the experimental Instrumental, to the impressive and iconic chorus, paperwork brings a lot to the table. Burn brings back Late Registration Ye with a soulful sample, a relatable and iconic verse, and an overall amazing vibe. Fuk Sumn, has one of the most recognizable beats of the Vultures era with an amazing Carti verse, and revolutionary bridge towards Yeā€™s verse. Ty does his thing with his gifted voice and Travis proves why he is one of the great in the game right now. Vultures has a melodic beat with the greatest verse of Vultures 1, performed by Bump J. This is one of the greatest singles Ye has ever released as it perfectly sets the tone for what the Vultures era is. Carnival brings back Off The Grid Ye with an imaginative hype song that features Rich The Kid & Playboi Carti who both have some of the greatest verses of their careers. Beg Forgiveness shows Yeā€™s vulnerability about his family and when the beg forgiveness chant start, one of the greatest moments of Yeā€™s career starts. Ty sings his greatest verse ever and you will be changed after a first listen. Good (Donā€™t Die) shows that Ye can still make a song that sounds like someit off 808s & Heartbreak with the same quality. Problematic is Ye at his best, immaculate production, absurd verses, and a great time. King is the final song, as Ye states he is still the king whilst being criticized at every turn. The final verse & flow are very great and the beat is a hard hitting banger.
For The Reasons I Have Mentioned, I believe Vultures 1 is an amazing album and youā€™re objectively wrong if you donā€™t like or think itā€™s bad. I hope to destroy all arguments against Vultures 1. Deuces āœŒļø

2024.05.15 00:11 logs_d I accidentally lied on my CV and I got accepted into grad school

Hello all,
This is something I literally cannot stop thinking about and I feel like a horrible person right now so any advice is helpful.
I got accepted into a PhD program in a STEM field and after a lot of contemplation, I accepted it a month ago. I have still been majorly struggling with the life changes and if I am up to it (pretty much imposter syndrome). But I sent in all my material at the end of last year.
However, I recently needed to send an updated resume/CV for my job due to a QA walkthrough (I work at a diagnostics lab currently) and I noticed under my description of this job, I described my work as ā€œanalytical testing of specimensā€.
I do work with patient samples but it is just a diagnostic process. Iā€™m not running specific tests on specific samples, in reality Iā€™m pushing them through the lab using liquid handlers. So I feel that saying I am doing any sort of ā€œanalytical testingā€ is a gross lie. I really donā€™t know what I was thinking when writing that. If anything, it should be ā€œdiagnostic processingā€ and then I could really explain what I do. I have other bullets under this section to back up other things I do (reagent handling, instrument troubleshooting, training, etc.)
I feel so incredibly guilty because of this and whatā€™s worse is that I did not even get a formal interview by the school or my PI. Like I wish I did so then this could have been found out and then I could explain the mistake but now itā€™s obviously too late. It makes my work experience sound so much more grandiose but in reality itā€™s very simple.
I mean I do have the other qualifications (bachelors, some research experience, letters of recommendation) but I feel that this job also means a lot in the decision and I feel incredibly sick to my stomach thinking that I have experience in any sort of analytical testing when I donā€™t. I have a theoretical grasp of some of the methods but no actual work experience (maybe some undergrad lab experience).
Should I email my PI and ask him about this? Or send in an updated CV? I know the running joke is ā€œfake it till you make itā€ but I genuinely feel that I am a fake now and donā€™t want to live like that.
TLDR: Got into grad school but realized a pretty massive error on my CV regarding my job description and I am freaking out about it.

2024.05.14 23:54 bigSTUdazz Hi Again My Aussie Friends! American here....

I have come here in the past with questions, and you folks in the forum have been so kind in answering. My daughters (8, and 5yo twins) are absolutely FASCINATED with everything Australia. They met a FABULOUS older couple from Brisbane last year who were just AMAZING, and my girls just fell in love, especially since thier favorite show (Bluey), is basically a big love letter to the city.
So we were all having dinner last night, and my oldest asked a question that I thought I would pose here: What are the big cultural differences from going to your east coast to the west coast? There are several major differences in America, so they were curious about you guys. So say I were to travel from Brisbane to Perth...what differences would I see in attitudes? Food? Music? My little ones would LOVE to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much from a loving but exhausted dad from Indiana, USA!!!! And a HUGE thank you from my girls and lovers of Australia...HaHa, PJ, and ChaCha.

2024.05.14 22:05 devwolf121 Digital Nomads for Americans: How did you obtain a Medical Certificate?

Hello fellow nomads,
I've been digging through the forum trying to find guidance on obtaining a medical certificate for my visa application, but not sure why I am so confused on something so basic. The requirement specifies a "Health insurance medical certificate" from a recognized health institution in my country of residence to prove I donā€™t carry any contagious diseases. Hereā€™s the specific text:
ā€œYou must get a medical health certificate from a recognized health institution in your country of residence and present it to the relevant [country] authorities. This document will prove that you do not suffer from any contagious diseases that may be of risk to the [country] population.ā€
Despite what seems like a straightforward task, I'm hitting a wall. I contacted my primary care doctor, and they told me they don't issue such certificates. I even reached out to my insurance company, who called over 20 different providers, none of whom could help.
Is there a specific way I should be framing my request to these healthcare providers? What exactly qualifies as a recognized health institution in this context?
Additionally, I found this sample letter: [Medical Certificate Sample](). Can anyone confirm if the format here is generally acceptable, or should I be looking for something different?
Any guidance, especially from those who have navigated this process, would be immensely helpful. Thank you!

2024.05.14 20:31 ThrowRA_151900 Questions about SA of a minor accusation (Ex partner)

Iā€™m not sure if this is the right place or if a lawyer may be who I should be asking. Located in England.
My ex partner was accused by a family member of SA when she was under the age of 16.
When the police came knocking they didnā€™t say what it was for and that they were trying to get in contact with him for another force in another area.
Originally my ex claimed they must have been looking for him for Assault on a different family member.
He attended a voluntary interview (just him and an on duty solicitor) under caution which is where the allegations came out.
He told me that he was accused of SA of a minor but that he was innocent. After the interview it took around a year for him to be contacted to say that at that point there was not enough evidence however if more evidence came to light they would be in contact. That was where it was left.
When he moved out, he left all of his stuff in my house and whilst I was sorting through our files of mixed paper work I came across a letter from what i assume was a confirmation of what the final outcome was. The only thing that stood out to me was that it didnā€™t say SA it said R*pe of a minor. He was always adamant of his innocence and that it was SA only.
Some questions that I have are:
  1. Would allegations made by someone under the age of 16 be automatically classed as R or would there be SA claims too? I donā€™t know why but I just assumed that any allegation made by a minor would be classed as R due to the fact that they are underage but I donā€™t really know if that is the case.
  2. Would the fact that he was questioned under caution appear on things like a DBS or a Claireā€™s Law check? Or would these not show because he was never charged with anything?
  3. We have a daughter together (born before the allegations), due to the nature of a family member being the accuser, if further information came to light and he was requestioned or charged would this information be shared with me? If yes at what point would that information be shared?

2024.05.14 20:21 Ill_Variation_2480 TTPD's new nickname "Female Rage: The Musical" should upset you.

Edit: If you are going to comment on the length of this post, please don't. This is not a simple snark but rather an actual critical think piece about feminism and Taylor Swift.

Introduction

Pertaining to Taylor Swift, "Female Rage" has deviated from its intended meaning after Swift debuted a new performance of The Tortured Poets Department during the Eras Tour. Now, according to Swift's use of the phrase, female rage is interpreted as public backlash against Swift's dating choices rather than as a response to the broader injustices against women and women's rights. This post examines Taylor Swift's flawed feminism, philanthropy, branding, and the controversial trademark petition for the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical". Swift's background as an entertainer, indeterminate politics, and alignment with capitalism over feminism pervades her legacy, again threatening her public tolerance as not just an individual but as a brand.

Once Upon a Female Rage...

If you were cognizant in the early 2010's, you've heard countless jabs at Taylor Swift in the media. Magazines, radio, or online. Music critics did not take her seriously as a songwriter; parents put a woman on an unrealistic pedestal as the ideal role model for their children; she dated too much and used men as lyrical fodder. No matter the story, it inevitably spread, conjoined with everyone's respective opinions, and you'd be left to wonder, "Why does everyone hate this girl so much?"
Taylor's target demographic has always been young or adolescent girls, more so when Swift herself was one. She made music that spoke to the awkward misfit, cultivating a para-social relationship with fans on MySpace, then later twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, where Taylor posted relatable vlogs showcasing the life of a homegrown American girl. Taylor had a delayed public "growing up" and, compared to her female pop contemporaries, Swift never "gratuitously sexualized her image and seems pathologically averse to controversy" (and, apparently, never even had a sip of alcohol until she turned 21). She was more than happy to spin this narrative to allude to an inherent moral superiority above other women in the industry (Better Than Revenge, heard of it?), engaging in the very slut-shaming that she herself endured (the Madonna and Whore archetypes). The victim complex arose with the need to prove Taylor as a different type of pop girl. Based upon her holy and clean image, Swift had been dubbed "a feminist's nightmare", and that "[To Swift] other girls are obstacles; undeserving enemies who steal Taylorā€™s soulmates with their bewitching good looks and sexual availability." Feminism and Tennessee-Christian country values don't exactly mix, it seems.
Years later, Swift befriended Lena Dunham and thus experienced white feminism osmosis, where Dunham taught Swift that real feminists defend rapists, makes insensitive jokes about rape and abortion, and prioritize all-white casts. Swift then declared herself a feminist in 2014, saying,
"Becoming friends with Lena ā€“ without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for ā€“ has made me realize that Iā€™ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so."
I suppose the male-centric songwriting subject that permeates Swift's discography contained covert feminism and that we just didn't see that. Perhaps, the "Bad Blood" song and music video were written only in jest and not about poor Katy Perry, for Swift, as a feminist, would "never make it a girl fight" or tear other women down (though all Katy did was date your terrible ex-boyfriend and allegedly steal three backup dancers from your tour). In 2013, Swift said, in response to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's joke towards her serial dating, "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."
There was that time in 2015 Taylor said that Nicki Minaj was "invited to any stage [she is] on" (as if Taylor expects to have access to every stage, award, and platform that Nicki might not otherwise have as a black female artist...yikes!) in response to Nicki's criticism of the white + thin VMA nominations. Later, Nicki responded with confusion, as Swift continued, "Itā€™s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..". Of course, this 'beef' was 'squashed' when Nicki performed with Taylor at the VMAs, with Nicki quite literally only having 38 seconds of stage time without Taylor. Maybe all that parading around with a legion of famous white women - similar to the way Taylor might've done with her numerous 1989-era handbags - was in fact a stance against gender inequality, and that this display of "girl power" should be enough to constitute Swift as a feminist icon.
Even while Swift says that Dunham informed her feminist outlook, she dances around the exact contents of those beliefs: "what she believes, what she says, what she stands for" is not exactly insightful towards what beliefs Swift might have inherited. Taylor never broaches women's rights topics such femicide, FGM, forced pregnancy & marriage, sex trafficking, women in slavery, women's financial and political oppression, women's educational rights, women's health, or women's autonomy, so we can assume she only gives a fuck about "girls supporting girls" (whatever that fucking means).
Despite some questionable (and sometimes vindictive) behavior, Taylor as a young woman did not deserve every media lashing that she received. We cannot deny that most headlines and criticisms perpetuated a misogynistic rhetoric which has plagued Swift for a majority of her career. Acknowledging events such as the development of her ED, her sexual assault trial, "Famous" lyric and MV depiction of Taylor, and the explicit Twitter deepfakes, for example, as both disgusting and unfortunate things that happened to a young woman in Hollywood does not negate the fact that Taylor is mostly a performative feminist.

Get Your Fucking Ass Up and Be a Philanthropist, It Seems Like Nobody Wants to Be a Philanthropist These Days

In 2013, Taylor Swift cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. The donation amount - $4 million - was the largest individual artist gift ever donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which is, of course, mentioned on Swift's website. The two-story facility features three classrooms, an instrument room, and an interactive children's exhibit gallery. Swift also performed at "All for the Hall" charity shows and has donated numerous artifacts from her career (such as notable guitars, tour costumes, etc) to the museum.
This was over 11 years ago, and it is still the only notable philanthropic contribution Taylor Swift has made.
For a woman of her net worth and stature, and a woman who recognizes the difficulties for women in film and music, you would think that Taylor Swift might establish a scholarship program for women to study the arts or something. Perhaps Swift might even consider becoming a member of organizations that support female artists, or one that supports LGBTQ+ causes (since she is now proudly an ally), yet she remains superficial with her graces. Broader philanthropy, such as donating relief aid to Palestinian women or women impacted by violence and discrimination will probably never receive any financial support from Miss Swift because then she'd be using her money towards philanthropies involving anyone but white entertainers.
She even says herself in Miss Americana, "My entire moral code as a kid and now is a need to be thought of as 'good'." Well, she's certainly thought of as good, though her actions say otherwise. She's more than happy to do a vaguely altruistic song and dance for a clip-worthy interview quote and mass appeasement, then fuck off to one of her mansions on a 20 minute private jet flight, rather than actually contribute to anything pertaining to the causes she has endorsed. Yet, far too many people continue to give a woman such as her their money, time, and energy, and she hoards these resources to herself.

I Like Some of the Taylor's Songs, But What the Fuck Does She Know About Feminism?

Swift continued with her self-proclaimed feminist campaign, positioning herself as a political activist and LGBTQ+ ally in the Miss Americana documentary. The primary focus of the documentary consists of the sexual assault trial, Andrea Swift's cancer diagnosis, Taylor's ED and body dysmorphia, media scrutiny, and, largely, finally speaking up about her politics publicly, mostly her opposition to the 2018 Tennessee Republican senate candidate, Marsha Blackburn, and Blackburn's beliefs. Swift says, following a scene discussing her experience during the trial,
"I just couldn't really stop thinking about it. And I just thought to myself, next time there is any opportunity to change anything, you had better know what you stand for and what you want to say."
We must ask ourselves, though: when has Swift ever spoken up to change anything? Okay, pulling her entire catalogue from Spotify because they didn't pay their artists enough and similarly pulling her catalogue from Apple Music are changes that she leveraged due to her revenue potential and power, but they are not pertinent to the average woman's rights. Moreover, these are issues that directly impacted Taylor's income, which was enough reason for her to protest in the first place. Swift has sold the most units for a female artist in first week sales, is the first female artist with 100k monthly Spotify listeners, is the first female artist to win the Album of the Year Grammy 4 times, and is the first female artist to do X, Y, and Z, all while being inoffensive and family-friendly to boot. The actual Taylor Swift seems unwilling to compromise the brand of Taylor Swift by contributing in meaningful ways to feminist causes, especially if it is for women outside of America and Hollywood.
The reason political anthems such as "The Man" and "Only the Young" of the Lover era feel disingenuous and corporate is because, well, it is. Taylor has taken every opportunity to advance her career or public image at the expense of other women. What is truly genuine to Taylor's outlook on other women is vying for male attention, taking down female competition, and vocalizing feminist injustices only if they directly impact her and her money. Some will argue that it's satisfactory for a woman with such a huge platform to even TALK about feminism, but that just isn't enough. It's even less impressive when you candidly look at the scope of her feminist lens: "If I was the man, then I'd be THE MAN", or "I really resent the ā€˜Be careful, buddy, sheā€™s going to write a song about youā€™ angle, because it trivialises what I do", and, of course, "We all got crowns". Feminism, but only when it happens to me. It gets worse when you look at Taylor's track record of copying other famous women and removing other female artists as potential threats to her pop prowess.
It's good for PR to align yourself with certain blanket feminist and political beliefs, therefore good for branding, therefore good for ticketing and merchandise sales, therefore good for business. And Taylor Swift is a business.
She's not a feminist. Taylor Swift is a capitalist.

I Can't Pay Those Sweatshop Workers a Livable Wage or Benefits! How Else Would I Make My Billions?

Recently, Taylor's team filed to trademark the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical" after Taylor said during Paris N1 of the Eras Tour,
"So you were the first ones to see The Tortured Poets at the Eras Tour...or as I like to call it, 'Female Rage: The Musical'."
This trademark petition was filed last week on Saturday, and news comes about just as numerous unofficial fan-made merch designs have cropped up with this phrase plastered on Fruit of the Loom basics. I'm of the opinion Swift's team motioned for a trademark so that they can send out cease & desists to all those that make knockoff merch, which disrupts potential sales for Bravado, UMG's choice merchandising company; however, since it was filed earlier, perhaps Swift has bigger plans with the bizarre use of the gendered phrase. One Swiftie referred to the phrase "female rage" as "a funny Eras Tour joke". Could it be a possible fourth version of the Eras Tour Movie? Whatever the reason, the motion to capitalize off of such a concept is disgusting, but not unsurprising, for a woman that profits on her vain feminism.
Swift, through her company, TAS Rights Managements, has also trademarked over 200 phrases, including "1989", where she owns the property rights to this calendar year on keychains, phone cases, sunglasses, stationary, bags, beverage ware, clothing, entertainment services, your subconscious, and, of course, Christmas ornaments.
The vapid consumerism in Swiftie culture is, frankly, disgusting. Bravado's sustainability statement is non-existent, the quality control is abysmal, and the materials they use are horrible. The materials, such as acrylic and polyester, are made from petrochemicals. This means they are non-renewable, shed microplastics, and are quite toxic in production. The manufacturing process to make all of those lazy-rushed Eras Tour logo graphic tees is a huge blow to environmental well-being. Apparently, though, Swifties don't give a fuck. They sell out products in seconds and either have to face the manufactured scarcity or buy from a scalper that resells for 200% of the already ridiculous retail price. This doesn't include the environmental impact of vinyl records, CD, and cassette production, of which Taylor produces many variants that sell unsustainable amounts.
If we're talking about women's rights violations, why is no one acknowledging the women that work in the inhumane sweatshop conditions that have to pump out fugly t-shirts and hats? The millions of plastic microfiber dander they are inhaling, or the toxic dyes that touch their bare skin? Are they being compensated fairly for their skilled labour and are they in safe working environments? Do these women have minimal bargaining power, and do they have authority over their worker's rights? Is Taylor Swift female raging at their injustices? Does Taylor Swift ever feels bad that her wealth was built on the backs of women of color, disadvantaged by the demands of the global economy and garment industry? Do you think she ever says a little white feminist prayer for them before she goes to sleep at night?
What's even crazier is not that Taylor herself doesn't care, it's that Swifties don't care. There CANNOT BE ethical billionaires. You only make a billion dollars if you are exploiting other human beings for capital gain. Based on public perception of the possible "Female Rage: The Musical" trademark, it seems like Swifties are already asking for merch with this phrase. "If Taylor made it, I'd buy it." Oh, cool. So not only do you champion Miss Swift's avarice and billionaire status, but you also are unashamed to admit to your blind consumption of her music and merchandise, no matter where they might originate in production or sincerity. Just as Swift takes and takes and takes, Swifties' consumerism of Taylor Swift cannot be quelled.
The tortured artist's most vulnerable and sincere poetry...available now in 21 different versions!

I Am Tortured Poet, Hear Me Whinge

Look - even if Taylor's intention is to characterize TTPD as more "tortured" and "angry", the main thread of the album is "I was ghosted by my decade-long situationship with a controversial indie boy and my fucking stupid fans wrote a 'Speak Up Now' open letter prompting me to drop him" anger, which is adequately expressed in the lyrics and performances. The extent of Taylor's "female rage" on TTPD is on tracks such as "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?", which contends with relentless media scrutiny; "But Daddy I Love Him", where Swift firmly states she'll date whoever she likes no matter how "Sarahs and Hannahs" may react; and "The Albatross", a track mythologizing her reputation and the consequences of dating her. Of course, these coincide with deep psychological wounds that formed during Swift's early years in the media, and so, from her feminist perspective, these subjects tackle the misogyny and double standards that she faced.
Yet Taylor Swift still has no grounds to be claiming that TTPD best exemplifies female rage and therefore she, in the context of this album, is female rage incarnate. As the daughter of a stock broker and mutual fund marketing executive, Taylor was born into wealth and allowed privileges like trips and subsequent relocation to Nashville all so that she might get a record deal. Her father even invested at least $120,000 into the then-fledgling label, Big Machine Records, which ensured Taylor's place with Borchetta after leaving her dead-end development deal with Sony. The fact that her parents were able to buy her a fucking brand new guitar for Christmas and pay for music lessons says so much about the financial security and safety of her childhood.
Money is privilege and protection, and despite Swift's experiences with misogyny and loser boyfriends, she does not know what female rage is.
Her rage is derived from her frustrations with her obsessive fans pulling the moral superiority card on Taylor in response to her rebound with Matty Healy. That's literally it. She's just pissed that the monster she created is no longer obediant, it's become a feral, sovereign entity that depletes the world of its natural resources and thinks it is more intelligent than it actually is because it's mommy has started to talk to it with big words. Apparently, 'illicit', 'elegy', 'nonchalant', and 'precocious' are considerably big words for the oafish monster, and I find it strange that this level of literacy is present in a group of fans that allegedly have GPAs of 3.5 or higher, but I digress.
Taylor Swift has never been one paycheck away from destitution. Taylor Swift has never experienced racial discrimination. She may have instances of gender discrimination, but she possesses the ideal white, blonde American beauty standard and therefore reaps the benefits of being a conventionally attractive woman. Taylor Swift has sufficient social capital. Taylor Swift is a billionaire woman prolonging her victimhood though she, as a woman, has mostly had control over her image and music (unlike her contemporaries). Taylor Swift is NOT entitled to be championed for her "female rage", nor should she be. Taylor Swift has never even been the struggling artist, for fuck's sake. I don't give a fuck if she's trying to fill the empty lunch tables of her past. Taylor Swift purporting herself, her unpolished album, and her lukewarm feminism as a musical bleeding with female rage is asinine.

Sigh Try and Come For My Job, Poors

Out there in the world right now is a 23-year-old woman, a recent college grad, who works as a barista. She has to wake up and get ready to go into a minimum wage job because she cannot get a job in her field. She doesn't have healthcare benefits or sick time, so she has to go into work no matter how she's feeling. All day long she is berated by vicious customers and creepy men, and, exhausted from being on her feet, she knows she has to go home to her shitty roommate that never does the dishes and her roommate's shitty dog. To comfort herself, she considers getting a treat, but thinks against it when she remembers that matcha lattes cost $15 and they taste like milky dirt. She knows that she needs to buy groceries this week, and so the woman resolves to go home, but notices that her gas tank is low. She goes to put gas in the car, but the pump stops at $27.86 because that's all that she has in her checking account. The woman, bereft and reeling, sinks into the driver's seat. "Well," she thinks, her head in her hands, "at least I don't have Taylor Swift's job. I just couldn't imagine."
Fame is somewhat of a choice. If at any moment Taylor feels that she is misunderstood, misconstrued, or overwhelmed by public opinion, she can LEAVE the public eye - Lord knows she has the retirement fund and residuals to do so. In "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart", the TTPD song about meeting the demands of your career-zenith mega-tour while in the relationship trenches, Taylor ends the song by rambling,
"You know you're good when you can even do it with a broken heart...you know you're good...and I'm good, cause I'm miserable, and no one even knows!...try and come for my job."
Yeah, obviously we wouldn't know, you recently passed the billionaire threshold and are the most famous and in-demand performer in the world right now. Taylor Swift makes an estimated $10 to $13 million dollars A NIGHT on the Eras Tour. Furthermore, the Eras Tour movie grossed $261.6 million globally, (which, as the producer, Taylor takes home 57% of the ticket sales) not counting the streaming revenue from Amazon Prime Video and the estimated $75 million deal that Disney paid to have it on Disney+. We're not even considering the income from cheap plastic popcorn buckets and drink cups plastered with colored squares in her Era-specific likeness.
It's funny. Taylor Swift often said that being famous wasn't hard, that she "isn't complaining". I'm sure it is difficult to always have to present in a good mood, else you'll end up misrepresented in the media, and I'm sure it's invasive to virtually have no privacy or semblance of anonymity. Still, Taylor Swift shows up each night of tour and performs. For a majority of her career, she has penned her sad songs while on the road. Most of "Red", her breakup album, was written in the thick of the Speak Now World tour. Now, some Swifties say they almost "feel bad" for attending the Eras Tour with Swift's revelations in this song, that they have had a 'dimmed experience' upon hearing Taylor's misery whilst performing. Despite the fact that Taylor said that "this was the happiest she's ever been" at Gilette Stadium in May, the lyrics "boohoo, woe is me, smile for the cameras and make the fans happy!!!" are jarring for Eras attendees.
While Taylor Swift was making double-digit millions a night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and feeling miserable, Ana Clara Benevides Machado passed away due to heat exposure. The concert promoters, Time For Fun, are now the subject of a criminal investigation due to their lack of adequate hydration and safety. Taylor Swift cancelled the Sunday show that was to follow and offered VIP tent tickets to Benevides Marchado's family, which was a kind gesture, but perhaps incongruous to the incident of which they were offered as consolation. Everyone grieves differently, of course, but I'm not sure attending the very show at the very same venue that my daughter or sister passed away in two days prior, where the singer CONTINUED the show despite her death, would be healthy for closure.
There was no female rage at the show as Swift never saw Benevides Machado pass out. There was no female rage towards the disregard for fans as humans while Swift elected to proceed with her Brazil tour dates despite the country being in historic heatwaves (at risk of overheatting herself). If Taylor Swift was so shaken by touring with a broken heart or a fan's passing, she wouldn't have added an additional North American leg of Eras just two months after the Matty breakup. She's brokenhearted but willing to mend the cracks with your money and move onward with her worldwide female rage induced pillaging.
No matter what happens, even if you die at a Taylor Swift concert, Taylor collects a big fat check and flies away. She doesn't know you as anything other than a conversion rate or earning potential despite what her nearly 20-year long parasocial relationship with fans might otherwise indicate. She knows that, while some Swifties are without disposable income, they feel obligated to spend on a "48 Hours Only!" exclusive vinyl variant instead of necessities because they are so entrenched in Taylor Swift's intoxicating celebrity, they'll prioritize materialistic fandom before their needs. This is good enough for her because this means she can expand her real estate portfolio and finance her cat's lavish lifestyles. They're worth an estimated $100 million dollars. Her three cats could pool their net worth and solve world hunger.
While you and I might be denied bereavement leave and barely surviving the current political and economic climate, Taylor Swift has to, instead of gets to, perform for stadiums at full attendance for three nights in a row across the globe. You and I might be replaced by AI at our longtime jobs, but Taylor Swift is threatened with losing more and more money each time you listen to a "Stolen Version" of her songs. If we don't buy every variant of all of her albums, then who is going to pay for the fucking cats?
It is tone deaf to spend as she spends and lives as she lives in this economy, but this is her reality. She was able to donate $100,000 to all of her tour truck drivers, and that's wonderful, but it leads me to wonder about the ethos of the 2020s where one woman can hoard such life-changing amounts of money. Remember in 2014 when she gave a fan $90 ($120 in today's money) to get Chipotle because she had no fucking clue how much it cost? This is a 34-year-old woman who is increasingly out of touch with the reality for working class people and women in general. Normal everyday adults must wake up and go to their thankless jobs, and yet Taylor Swift, despite all her riches, incessantly references the lows of her life and career as a public figure and entertainer to farm sympathy and drive sales. And still, the corporate women have latched onto "I cry a lot, but I am so productive! It's an art!" as their cubicle battle cry.
Do you think that, from up in her private jet, Taylor Swift gazes at the world through her poetic, tortured eyes, and thinks, "All the little people, in their cars, walking, going about their lives...all those girls that don't support girls...do they know that I've made an album about female rage?"

Conclusion/TLDR

Thank you for reading. I would love to hear your critical insights towards this entire ordeal: TTPD, the trademark, the implications of it all.
TLDR: Taylor Swift is a bad feminist and is delusional to think that the TTPD eras set exemplifies female rage at women's injustice.

2024.05.14 20:15 We_Got_the_Yacht Vintage Duluth logo tee

Vintage Duluth logo tee
Iā€™ve had this tshirt since I was a kid. Itā€™s probably a size large youth but I was able to wear it for many years, including throughout college and younger adulthood. Iā€™m 40 now and no longer a youth large (more of a mom medium?) but I continue to hold onto it because Iā€™ve always loved this old logo with the sails and rounded lettering.
Does anyone know if there are any tshirt retailers/printers using this logo? Itā€™s got to be from around 1990 or so. Would love to get some for myself, husband and daughter. We live in Madison but thankfully my eternal love of Duluth burns bright within them as well and we love to promote ā€œhome.ā€

2024.05.14 20:14 RainInMyBr4in The disappearance of Fiona Sinnott

Fiona Sinnott was a 19 year old Irish woman who vanished after a night out in County Wexford on February 8th 1998. At the time of her disappearance, Fiona was a single mother to an 11 month old daughter, Emma.
The night of Sunday 8th started off normally and Fiona spent it socialising with her friends at Butler's Pub in Broadway, County Wexford which also happened to be close to her home. Her friends Nora, Joan and Martina all described Fiona as being in good spirts that night but did state that she kept complaining of a bad pain in her arm. Her friends and Garda later considered that this could have been related to a past relationship she had broken off. Fiona had suffered immense physical abuse at the hands of a former boyfriend and had hospitalised herself after being violently attacked on numerous occasions. Her injuries had included bruises to her face, bites to her legs, being beaten about the head and back and even a fractured jaw. She had confided in close friends details about these attacks but never filed any complaints against the perpetrator. Despite this pain in her arm, however, Fiona seemed to be in good form and enjoyed a good night out with her friends. At one point, she called her brother SƩamus and asked him to come down to the pub but he declined as he was tired after a long day at work. He later stated that he wondered if something had happened to Fiona while at the pub and had she contacted him as a way of seeking help. Either way, this was the last contact Fiona had with her family. At around midnight, Fiona decided to return home as the pain in her arm was causing her great discomfort. She supposedly asked her ex-boyfriend, a man by the name of SeƔn Carroll, if he could walk her home. Carroll was the father of Fiona's child and although their relationship had ended, they allegedly remained on good terms. He had been drinking alone at the premises and willingly agreed to walk her back to her home, which wasn't far from the pub. They left together shortly after midnight.
Fiona wasn't reported missing until February 18th, 9 days after she was last seen leaving the pub. Her family hadn't reported her missing sooner as she reportedly had a habit of traversing the country to visit people and would sometimes be without contact for several days at a time. However, after 9 days of silence, her family knew something was terribly wrong, especially as she hadn't contacted Sean's family, with whom she had a childcare arrangement, to collect her daughter. Her father, Pat, then filed a missing persons report. SeƔn was the first to be interviewed as he was the last person to see Fiona. He told Gardaƭ that he and Fiona had walked back to her home slowly as her pain was causing her immense discomfort. Upon entering her property, he offered her coffee but she declined and went immediately to bed. He slept on the sofa that night while she went to sleep in the upstairs bedroom. He awoke at 9am and went into Fiona's room where he woke her up and she had told him that she would be visiting the doctors in Bridgetown to see about her arm. SeƔn gave her some money and then left the house as his mother had arrived to collect him. She drove him home to Coddstown, two miles west of Broadway. He stated that when he left, Fiona was awake and sitting up in bed.
When Garda began to investigate Fiona's house in the hopes of finding clues, they were met with an unusual sight. According to a GardaĆ officer, "Her house was immaculately cleaned, almost spotless. This was unusual for Fiona, especially as she had been suffering from arm pain before she disappeared. Her family told us that she was not house proud and she would have always had some mess lying around. Because of this, we don't believe Fiona tidied the house. We searched everywhere for clues but found nothing- everything had been painstakingly cleaned". Fiona's landlord also stated that because of her young daughter, anytime he went to visit the house it "always had bits and bobs scattered around". Fiona's neighbour's reported that in the days after her disappearance, numerous black bin bags appeared outside of her house. However, these had vanished by the time she was reported missing. Several weeks after her disappearance, a local farmer came forward to Garda and stated that while he had been tending to his cattle, he stumbled upon numerous bin bags dumped on his property and that when he opened them, he found numerous letters and documents addressed to Fiona Sinnott. Regretfully, he was unaware of her disappearance at the time and had burned the bags as he believed it to be the result of fly tipping, something that was a big problem then.
As of today, 26 years later, no trace of Fiona has ever been found. However, in 2005 her case was upgraded to a murder enquiry. Shockingly, when her family attempted to erect a memorial plaque in 2008 close to the pub where she was last seen, it was destroyed the night before being unveiled and a second plaque was also destroyed a few months later. However, a third plaque remains to this day down by the harbour. Despite these setbacks, her family have not given up hope of finding her and bringing her home. They have stated that they know exactly who killed her but that the perpetrator now resides in mainland Europe. Garda have also stated they have a person of interest but, as the family stated, they no longer live in Ireland. According to Fiona's family in their most recent Facebook update, she was "terrified" of SeƔn after their turbulent relationship and would never have asked him to walk her home. They believe he followed her out of the pub without being asked, contrary to the original version of events. He also reportedly told her landlord multiple times that she was in London just after her disappearance, which was quickly disproven. In addition, a woman's scream was heard at around 12:30am in the Kisha Cross area, roughly halfway back to Fiona's home. Finally, SeƔn had told Fiona's family that he had slept on the sofa, which is odd as she had a spare bedroom that he could have used. He also claimed that he slept on the chaise lounge which makes no sense as it was only 3 feet long. Although this information is telling, no convictions have been made and Fiona's remains have never been found. Until this happens, her family will not receive the peace and closure they deserve and their nightmare only continues.

2024.05.14 19:43 Environmental_Ad4837 Learn to write apps for toddler

Not sure this is the best sub Reddit, but I'm looking for a basic beginners writing app for my 4 year old daughter to practice her letters and possibly numbers. I don't mind paying a one off fee either, but the only one I've found has an annual subscription

2024.05.14 19:29 kimberlyclaire79 The Lies Never Stop

The Lies Never Stop
I've been NC on and off for about 25 years with small contact along the way. But always the realization she is unsafe and has no place in my life occurs for one reason or another. She refuses to go to a therapist. She drains me. So it's a no for me.
The most recent break was due to her lying for five months about seeing a therapist. Like telling me, my therapist said to write this letter to you, my therapist says X, Y, Z. When I suggested we have a joint meeting, she simply stated, "There is no therapist and there never was." No apology. No accountability. I'm supposed to "get over it." With eye rolls.
I received this text after three gloriously silent years. When I read it, I thought this didn't sound like her so I copied and pasted in Google and immediately saw the website she copied this verbatim.
I thought about not responding but ultimately landed on reinforcing my boundaries. Blocking via text needed to happen and I'm relieved. I don't like the possibility a message from her could pop up at any given time.
Anyone else have an uBP parent who lies all.the.time? In combination with her rage sessions and impulsive approach to life, there's no space for her in my life and I'm cool with that. People who haven't lived my life will never understand and wish we could patch things up. But I know how I feel, and I know what's best for me.
I'm going to keep on keeping on and focus on the healthy family I'm helping raise. I've got a husband I love and two daughters who are amazing. And I'm doing my best to break cycles and keep that shit away from them. NC has been the best thing for me.

2024.05.14 19:00 DrDiab Had my laparoscopy a week ago, feeling neglected and very anxious -- no results given.

I'd like to hear your experiences to find out if I should be concerned.
I had my surgery last monday, it's my first one. I'm 22. Also a trans dude so he/him pronouns please (I'm only saying this because I would totally assume the poster was a woman too if I read a post on here).
Miscommunication has characterised every step of this journey (hooray NHS), from a consultation wait list that took 14 months because they forgot about me to on the day of the surgery, them mixing up the fact that I was a stay in patient for the night (I didn't have anyone to take me home, and this was discussed three times at different appointments beforehand). After the surgery the nurse tells me I have glue on my incisions, so I don't need to do anything. Nope! They are stitches! So I'm going to go to a walk in clinic to sort that out soon because I looked it up and apparently you're not supposed to leave those in for more than ten days.
I didn't find out the results of the surgery; I very briefly saw the surgeon before the surgery and he was very grumpy with me even though I wasn't chattering. Just answered his questions as succinctly as possible. I was not prescribed any pain killer either, and the pain was bad. I woke up in shock, shivering like crazy, no count down on the anesthetic. Also my period started the day after.
The nurse told me I would receive the results in a letter after a couple days when they sent samples to a histrionics labs. It's been a week now... Yeah maybe I'm impatient but with all this miscommunication so far it's driving my anxiety through the roof. I have received absolutely 0 information about what happened during the surgery.
And this is just aesthetics but the incision on my bellybutton is just. So messy. They closed my belly button into a zig zag.
Should I be concerned? Or am I just paranoid when thinking that perhaps there's been miscommunication again and my results may have been lost? I don't know, I'm scared and when I call the number they gave me they told me I need to go to A and E if I want to see anyone for anything -- that means a nine hour wait in this city.
I'm sorry this is so rambly, I just have no one in my corner right now and I'm desperate to know something. Any insight would be appreciated.
