2024.06.09 23:23 creepy_scorpion12 Names for SkyClan characters needed!

Warning I guess, long post.
So I made some warriors ocs, don't know what to name them so I thought I'd enlist a little help. They're part of SkyClan btw, since I really like using the canon clans. There are a lot more cats in the Clans in my au too.
The Clan government:
Leader: a noble but somewhat self-centered broad-shouldered dark brown she-cat with a white chest and blue eyes
Deputy: a scarred silver tabby tom with ice-blue eyes who is very wily
Medicine team: the head medicine cat is a plump old, mean-spirited ginger cat (nothing like Yellowfang at all, she's actually mean as opposed to grumpy.) the second medicine cat is a ginger-beige spotted cat who I was maybe thinking about naming Snailwish. The apprentice is a small, kind, incredibly empathetic white she-cat. Two other helper cats include a lithe and spiritual brown she-cat and a silver tabby she-cat with sharp wits.
The main characters in SkyClan are a group of delinquent apprentices who question their leader a lot (for good reason) and might just be arguably more intelligent and strong-willed than the Clan's higher-ups. One of them, the POV protagonist, is a small dark ginger transmasc tom with sort of an orange underside but a patchy darker back and head. He's very sensitive. His eyes might be yellow. His friends/allies include his SkyClan peers (a huge and hot-headed tom, a ditzy black she-cat with white dapples, a very smart and sarcastic cat, a nerdy tom, a shy cat, maybe more.)
The POV's family includes:
His mother, an overbearing but well-meaning brown-ginger she-cat who is a ferocious, hot-tempered warrior.
His father, a generous and peaceful (as opposed to his mate) brown tabby tom with hazel eyes. Very philosophical. I was thinking about giving him the name Quailheart if I continue this in a more traditional way or Tranquillight if the opposite.
His littermates: a sassy and ferocious black-and-white she-cat who's an amazing fighter and hunter (even though she's really small) and a peppy ginger she-cat.
His older siblings, a calm yet fiercely devoted warrior and a caring cat who never liked to fight and is preparing for kits.
And his little brother, a hyper and playful kit.
That's all for now, thanks in advance for any suggestions!

2024.06.09 23:21 slayeryamcha Things i outright would change in rwby.

My changes.
World:
Ozma and Salem are believed to be first-human/gods creator that together created mankind. Both are praised in churches. In "The parents" religion lore, it is believed that humans had made disgusting blashemy against gods, making Ozma leave world and Salem to wept in saddness. Grimm are creatures of dark made from Salem's tears and hunt evil humans. Grimm after death turn into dark goo that needs to be banished by paladin/knight or priest. It can infect humans and turn them into mindless zombie like creatures(they can use weapons and be turned to Cultists by Tyrian who leads Salem's despair. Infection can be cured but it is hard)
There are two churches of "all parents", International Church and Salem's dispair. International Church is akin to Templars when Salem's despair is like death cult(exluding killing themselfs).
Salem's Despair is lead by it's "pope" Tyrian. They somehow menaged to tame Grimm to aid them in battles against Church order, nobody knows how they done it.
Goal of Salem's Despair is to open portal to summon both Salem and Ozma to purge earth from wicked, cultists believe that such show of their devotion will make them chosen people of gods that will survive the purge. To acomplish this task, they believe that they need to bring all artifacts together to summon them.
Of course International Church led by Ozpin wants to stop them. Ozpin is not Ozma, Popes of international church just take name starting with O when they become popes.
Both ozma and salem don't do anything in world till being summoned, they are disapointed in mankind and wait till it will get better.
Atlas is named high Mantle being rich part of kingdom and it is situated on mountain's side.
No kingdoms because kingdom can't exist without a king, so we have nations. Mistral is a country plunged into anarchy and Vacuo has become a vassal of Vale.
Mistral is divided in two parts, controlled territory and lawless one. As name suggest controlled territory is the part under rule of Mistral's gov.
All nations have armies but Vacuo one is mostly militia under Vale's control.
Mantle's army is the strongest one and most advanced too. But "advanced stuff" like robots, mechs and massive flying battle ships are made in small ammount because it is expensive as fuck.
In Vacuo exist big rebel group called "Vacuo's liberation army("VLA") that fights against Vacuo's gov, Valian units(like valian army and Rich families mercenaries) and SDC
Rich families like Schnee or Winchesters have their own personal mercenary armies.
Instead of white fang(stupid name), there is United Faunus Front(UFF) lead by Sienna. Ghira's organization was simply called International Faunus Movement(IFM)
Every faunus is cat faunus and they are divided in four groups:
  1. Valian faunus, descended from liberated slaves who, together with the Vale army, arrived and settled in Vale after the World War. Almost completely assimilated into Valian population and often serve in it's army.
  2. Mistralian faunus, descended from slaves liberated by Vale who remained in Mistral. Due to their history, they often join the UFF to take revenge on the Mistralian population.
  3. Mantlian faunus were slaves or faunus immigrants from Magierane or Mistral. The majority of the Faunus population in Mantle is employed by the SDC. Under Jacques who decided to use faunus as source of votes, they are treated fairly well. Thanks to it, SDC is mostly safe from UFF attacks. But this also created of many theories that UFF is in fact founded by it to destroy SDC's competition.
  4. Magierane faunus, divided into local and migrant. The locals have the features of Bengal tigers, one of them is partly Adam. The migrants were former slaves from the rest of the world.
First years of beacon(yang, weiss, blake) are 18, Ruby is 16, Adam is 24, Winter is 23. Taiyang/Qrow are 44. Huntsmen schools now are now schools of Church order.
Character changes(names + small info)
Adam Taurus -> Adam Khan Info: He is nothing like og. Now he is black haired tiger faunus, tall and proud. Trained from young age, Adam is killing machine that rips apart anybody that dares to opose him. He wants to marry Blake to crowns himself as next Chieftain of magierane. Biggest change is that he is Jacques son and he loves his father. Yup, in my idea Jacques loves his bastard son and helped Sienna create UFF. Both have good relationships thanks to Jacques many "work" visits to Magierane.
Taiyang Xiao-Long -> Tyler Drake
Info: One of the most deadly men walking on Remnant, works as mercenary for most powerful families. It brought him lot of friends and enemies alike. He is still softie when it comes to his baby girls
Yang Xiao-Long -> Sunny Drake Ruby Rose -> Ruby Drake
Info: Those gals only got name change, ok maybe Yang got little more slutty
Summer Rose/Raven Branwen -> Summer Drake(Maiden name Nikos) Info: Summer and Raven mashed to one character. Once deadly templar, after becoming mother, Summer decided to retire and work in small school in Patch. Raven's right hand woman is now Hellen Nikos, Pyrrha's younger sister.
Qrow Branwen->Autumn Nikos Info: Summer's Brother. Say goodbye to happy drunk uncle, this one is die hard patriot of Mistral. Lover of order and devoted beliver of Ozma. He is hard ass but loves his family.
Sky Lark -> Simon Lark Info: Now he is named simon, fight me cowards
Dove Bronzewing -> Devin Bronzewing Info: Who the fuck, names their son a pigeon?
Bart Oobleck -> Edmund Oobleck Info: His name is hard to write. Also he and Port are girl's cool uncles.
Glynda Goodwitch -> Glynda Oobleck-Goodwitch Info: Yup, our ol witch felt into hands of charming coffe addict
Whitley Schnee -> Jason Schnee Info: Athletic, Ambitious and Smart, in short he is an ASS. He is trully his father son.
Jacques Schnee -> Jacques Durand-Schnee Info: Far more proud but also far more carring. This dude goes from cold blooded killer into family man really quick. Hard but fair, loves his kids and even his white haired wife. Poor soldier that got into most powerful family of Mantle by pure luck.
Jaune Arc -> Arthur Drake Info: Third child of Duncan Drake, young Arthur always wanted to be a knight of holy order. With years of training under watch of his father and uncle, he is ready to take Beacon in STORM!

Littlesnow, clangen oc
Yet another Pineclan warrior that I decided to draw. I think I'm pretty happy with how she looks. I have decided that I don't have to match the designs I make like, 100% to the original sprite but it's still pretty close, isn't it? Man do I love drawing these cats!

2024.06.09 19:43 __star_dust the hate

I do not understand the hate spewed at me. I (34f) live alone with my cat, identify as a female and an artist. I work as a content creator for small business. I have faced my own fair amount of struggles. I am not a perfect person nor do I claim to be but yet in the last few years I've gotten more hate than ever and for what? No apparent reason and this hate comes from people I've never even met or gotten to know. I have earned every luxury in my life. I LOVE living a lone and right now I've been the happiest I've ever been. I've become reclusive due to a health issue and honestly it was the best move ever.
At one work place I literally had someone say within my ear shot "I really hate that woman" for no apparent reason. I've had people stalk, ambush, sabotage my life from various angles for no apparent reason from that particular work place as well (I no longer work there).
At another one, one coworker just wanted to get rid of me likely due to some misogyny and reported me for harassment to HR just for trying to be his friend.
At home I'm labeled an asshole because I don't participate in my NMom's delusional world. Also because I call myself an artist and they don't support that career path.
My neighbors don't seem to like me and for no apparent reason. One thinks I'm a freak and has tried to get me evicted because my TV is always on (it doesn't work like that, what do they expect me to do sit in silence while I WFH??). The other has called me a hoarder just because I moved in with more belongings than the average tenant here. I'm neat and tidy and unpacking took longer due to a health issue. Thank god I haven't nor have a desire to make friends with them.

2024.06.09 19:22 -HazzardCounty How the hell do you get 10k followers so you can go live?

I just created a TikTok last night, I was inspired by content creators that post things about narcissistic/emotional abuse because I have a lifetime of experience with that. I just want to contribute to what I know and these videos help me out, they are a form of therapy, so I would like to give back in that aspect.
I posted a few videos last night, got flagged for something on my first video. The app won’t even let me set a profile picture due to “multiple violations”. I don’t know what I did? It says to go into my in app notifications for more details but I can’t even find that other than “phone ping notifications”.
I can post the user handle if you want, but all I did was post a video of Narc Abuse and my Cats, yet violated TOS. Are people flagging videos for no reason?
I don’t understand how I could gain a following of 10k if I’m flagged from one video. I started with wanting to help the community and pay it forward but I don’t even know if it’s worth it.

2024.06.09 18:59 _Kal_Skotos Creative Sacrifice

When we were kids, my best friend and I were wells of creativity. We didn’t even get it, we weren’t trying to be artists or “content creators” back then, we were just having fun.
Andy kept making up stories, I’d illustrate the characters and make comics out of some of them. Actually, I drew and painted a lot all my life, easily and without much thought. That was when it worked the best. It would always become harder when some expectation was put upon me, like “draw something for your aunt’s birthday.” Too deliberate. Thinking always blocked me.
The same went for Andy, his stories were the best when done spontaneously.
Back when we didn’t think about how we needed to be creative or productive, or that anything we did had any value or that we had a talent or needed to achieve anything with it. We just did it, and people around us would respond.
Then came university, then work, Andy got a wife and a kid. Slowly, and without any drama, we drifted apart.
I didn’t draw in a long time. It’s hard when you work 5 days a week, you’re tired in the evening and recovering during the weekend. Suddenly the idea of myself as an artist started to matter more and more, and with it it became less and less obtainable. It started to matter because I needed something to hold on to that would represent a side of me outside of this absurd routine I was now stuck in. And I didn’t have my own family, I was free after work, not that I managed to do much with it aside from finishing a lot of shows, games, movies and books and drinking a bit too much.
By then, it’s been years since I saw Andy, but at one point we ran into each other, promised we’d grab a beer, surprisingly lived up to the promise, and realized that, despite all this time, we were still friends.
We started hanging out more often, we didn’t even live that far. His wife just had their second kid, and the whole thing seemed overwhelming to me, but it seemed he was managing just fine. One time I asked him if he was still writing anything. In retrospect, I could recognize that he had a serious gift, endless ideas, unique style, even as a kid. Hell, he even studied literature, although he was in finance now. “Sometimes,” he said. “I don’t have that much time, and I often start on some stories only to realize they’re dumb and give up.”
He told me his dream is still to write a book, but finding the motivation to write is difficult as is, and finding the right moment and atmosphere even more so. But 10 years ago, he wrote a short story/novel, still in the draft stage. I managed to convince him to let me read it, and I was amazed. The story was short, but it was so good and imaginative. The ending felt a bit rushed, and some plot elements could be fine-tuned, but the writing itself was genius. I could feel the characters, the atmosphere around them, the original ideas and believable dialogues…I told him honestly, with a not-insignificant effort to repress my jealousy, that he needed to keep on writing.
He laughed and asked me what about my drawing. I showed him a few things I made throughout the years, and he appeared genuinely impressed. Except there was so little to show. He asked me about one of the more recent drawings, which turned out pretty cool. I told him I actually made it in about half an hour, in a pissed-off mood after losing my job. Most of it was like that. The flash of inspiration is something I can’t summon or plan. “I envy the people who can get anywhere through pure discipline,” I said. “For me, it’s all completely outside of my control.”
This resonated with Andy. “When I wrote my story, at the moment the most complete work in my life, my mother died. That was the worst year of my life. I didn’t care about anything, the only thing I could do was write.”
“Yeah,” I agreed. “It seems to me that the best works I’ve made came from the moments where I had the least desire to live”
“I’ve been thinking about this for a long time,” he confessed.
“I’ve been trying so hard to get that drive back. I tried to write drunk, I tried to write sober, I tried to write when I’m on leave, I tried to write after my leave, I tried to write after work, I tried to write weekends, I tried to write during work because it’s more peaceful than at home…during big live events, or tried to wait for things to get more peaceful, break the routine, write desperately, write calmly, force it, not force it….in the end, nothing works. Except maybe a tragedy.” he laughed.
“Eh, at least you have an excuse. You have a wife, two kids, a demanding job… I’m just lazy.” I tried to cheer him up. I didn’t envy his lifestyle. But it was a good life, the life he wanted.
“I know this sounds awful, but to have children, a family, that’s nice and I love them but I can’t say it’s that fulfilling. Or that it’s the meaning of life for me. Ultimately, they’re here to have their own lives and I’m still me, and I wonder what I really accomplished - creating someone else to take a shot at making something interesting? No, kids aren’t what I want to leave as my mark on this world. And now I feel that this is it, there’s no more that infinitely long future filled with possibilities in front of us.”
We were both in some kind of depression, an identity crisis. In my 20s I was so lost and wanted some stability, and now I was choked by the regularness of life. Maybe it was the awareness that things could continue like this - every day the same, and then you die - that seemed terrifying at times. Especially at night, with the next day gaping in front of me like a black hole, waiting for me to fall in.
Some people have a strong feeling of purpose from which nothing can pull them away. I have some talent, but I find it so monumentally hard to give it any dedication.
After that day, this became our regular topic we always seemed to come back to. Is it better to try to force yourself to do something, or wait for the inspiration to hit you, but what when it’s simply not happening? We’d occasionally read some self-help advice, although we were always a bad audience for this kind of thing, constantly trying to identify what it was that was blocking us. We’d share our observations. Andy would come up with some cool ideas for stories, but it wouldn’t go anywhere. I’d try to sketch or do something “crazy” and it would just come off as forced and fake.
Slowly, Andy started working on a theory that, with time, became more and more concrete and ritualistic. He started from that simple, and not too original observation that he can only create when going through a loss. “The suffering artist” or something. He started to believe that there is some balance in life, that he was trying to maintain too many things, and that some kind of “hole” was needed that could be filled with creation.
We’d had some beers when he was going on about it again. “See, I always avoided big responsibilities, serious relationships, a family… I was always stingy about my time and how much I could give to others. And yet I have the same problem.”
He waved me off, drunker than I was. “We all have different capacities. Although I have more obligations, you are equally balanced by yours, as small as you think they seem in comparison. And even that's the wrong way of looking at it. I’m not talking about free time or energy, because I realized that’s not the issue, just an excuse. I’m talking on a much more… metasiphyc level.”
Metasiphyc. I remember that. I found it hilarious at the time.
But he kept on with his idea of equilibrium, balancing the things you want in life, with an increasingly elaborate approach to the topic. From a general idea that comes down to that all aspects of your life can’t be at their highest at the same time, to the idea that everyone has an average and when you want to rise above it in any way, you need to sacrifice something else.
“Well of course, everyone says you need to sacrifice to achieve greatness. Sacrifice means hard work, dedicating your time to it, shit like that. Except that this approach doesn’t really lead to success for either of us.” I challenged the theory.
He wasn’t discouraged. “No, because that’s not a sacrifice for you. In theory, you’re fine with spending 5 hours sitting down and working on something, you just don’t know what it is.” “No, sacrifice is… a sacrifice. It has to be something you care about. I’ve been studying the topic,” he’d start lecturing. “Humanity always had sacrificial rituals, and they make perfect sense.”
I’d usually laugh it off at this stage, but I think that, even then. I started to notice it was all becoming way too concrete and obsessive. We had more of those conversations, but the more of a thing it became for him, the less committal I was about agreeing with his philosophy. At one point I started seriously suspecting that he was losing it and becoming a fanatic.
One night he called me crying and telling me he took it too far, killed his cat so that he could write, and that he was a total idiot who deserved to die. I could tell he was drunk as fuck. After that incident, he suddenly stopped and calmed down. He was no longer talking about his book, sacrifices, equilibrums and metaphysics. Just normal shit, politics, exercise routine, work issues, family and all. Mostly about trying to drink less and work on his marriage. It seems he re-embraced normal life, avoided the topic of what happened that night, or turned it into a deeper discussion about alcoholism and getting his shit together. I didn’t push, maybe I was relieved if a bit bored by this change.
Then his youngest son died. Accidental suffocation with the blanket. Apparently it happens more often than you’d think.
Look, I’m not a writer, you can see where this is going. But as clear as it may seem here, put together in a linear recount of events, it certainly didn’t cross my mind that Andy had anything to do with it. It’s easy to look back now and connect all the elements, but to accept the possibility is much more bizarre. I just felt bad for him and had no idea what to say.
I was a weak friend at the time. I thought he needed some space and time with his family, and I needed a reason not to awkwardly interact with someone going through things I can’t possibly understand, so after a cliche message expressing my condolences, which took me a day and the help of ChatGPT to draft (I think the result was the eloquent “ Andy, I’m so sorry for your loss, no idea what to say. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.”) I kind of stepped back.
A few months have passed. I’m not proud of it, but I rarely actively miss people. Then, he reached out to me and asked me to get together for some beers.
I started with another unconvincing expression of condolences, but luckily he accepted it without any protest and lucidly started talking about how he was doing, the terrible state his wife was in and how confused and lost his little girl was. He said his home was a terribly depressing place, and that writing was now his only escape.
It wasn’t exactly a cheerful declaration, but a few weeks after he sent me a book draft. It was excellent. I loved it. I instantly felt a pang of jealousy. A short while later he managed to publish it.
The book kept getting some traction, slowly but surely, and soon enough I was truly jealous and I started to avoid him again. He didn't share my problem anymore. He created something, it was good, and people started to recognize it. Even if it never gets huge, it will always remain as something he can feel proud of. That was better than anything I was doing. Then again, being jealous of the man who lost his child was brutal, but I was and I didn’t feel like seeing him.
One day he invited me for some drinks while his wife and daughter were away to see her parents. He insisted I come.
This time, he was beaming. It seemed that he was waiting for me to say something until he couldn’t wait anymore. “Can you see that it’s working now? “ he asked.
I gave a confused look.
“The sacrifice”
He told me, to my great discomfort, that he went for all or nothing. That the cat worked just enough to confirm his suspicions, but he knew he needed something big. He had to do something drastic or forever resign to mediocrity. And how his son’s death instantly removed that barrier inside of him and gave him focus. “Of course, it hurt” he toned it down. “Without the pain, the sacrifice wouldn’t be worth anything”
“But your son, was that not an accident?” Happy accident, I thought.”Or?”
“Or” he replied flatly.
He continued. “Look, I don’t care, I know you won't say anything to anyone, at least not seriously. And if you did, who’d believe you, you can’t prove anything and you’re way too lazy to get into any drama and risk looking stupid.”
He was right.
“And maybe you also know there’s truth in it. Maybe you get it. The reason why I am telling you all this is because you’re my friend, maybe the only true friend I have, and because I want to help you. But your problem is that you avoid having anything to lose. That’s why you’re in your equilibrium where you can’t create.”
“What, I should find a girl and make a kid so I had something to sacrifice for my artistic masterpiece?” I asked him in some combination of shock and numbness of disbelief.
He shrugged. “This method is more concrete than you think, and it works. My problem is that I need to keep at it, the success made me happy and again, I’m balanced. In fact, as much as it hurts to lose my son, and as disgusting as this is to say, I can live without him. It was much more painful to watch my wife and daughter despair, that was truly… painful, and horrible. The guilt made me create. And now, I’m finally leaving my mark on this world and my marriage is falling apart,” he took a big sip.
“You sacrificed,” I said.
As time passed, my friend got a divorce, lost his beloved sister and her family in a tragic gas leak accident, wrote another book and became semi-famous in an increasingly broader circle. I didn’t read the book.
We don’t see each other often. I judge him, but I feel like a hypocrite. The truth is, I am consumed with envy, while the advice he gave me is stuck in my head. Meanwhile, time keeps on passing and I still achieved nothing.
“You need to open up a hole in your equilibrium and then fill it in with what you want. It’s a swap. Humanity always understood the concept. A deal with the devil, a sacrifice, same principle.”
Maybe I should stop him before anyone else is sacrificed. I know how much he loves his daughter, I think about it sometimes. But it all sounds too insane. Like some dumb fiction. Besides, he was right, wasn’t he? His way worked and I’m jealous because I have nothing to sacrifice.
It would be better to work on my own life rather than try to ruin his. He’s right, I never built anything so I’d have nothing to lose. We all have our reasons and fears. Maybe I should face mine. Finally, allow myself some closeness, stop pushing aside every girl I start to like. Meet someone, invest in the relationship, put my time and effort towards building something.
And then, perhaps, I’ll be able to find my creative drive.

2024.06.09 18:04 RussionAnonim Day 2 of "Three truths one lie"!

Again, let's do it. I am not the OP of the first post, but I liked doing that, so why not, lol! Let's do something bigger this time. Make it hard!
My takes:
  1. In the world, Jesus is the God. And Allah is, too. And YHWH, too. And Waaq. And Waruna, and Perun, and Dyeus, and Tengri, and so on! Almost every deity in which people believe is either a god, an avatar of a god, a spirit that wants to be worshipped, or something different. Like Tengri and Perun are two avatars of a single god, Sky Father. Jesus, Allah and many others names refer to One True God, the creator of this world. Many Elvish gods are actually lowly spirits, so some ethnicities of Elves don't even worship anyone.
  2. Every race other than "Old, wild people", Shan-ga ra La (my first main fictional humanoid race) and some others races are/were intruders and invaders. They all came to this world by portals, teleportation, rituals of transition and others kinds of such things. Although, most of them settled down, one way pr another.
  3. Elves and Orcs are actually of the same origins, they are descendants of an ancients race that Elves claim to be "Old Elves" and Orcs claim to be "Great Orcic Ancestors". That race managed to be both warrior-like and wisened in terms of magic, and they always were similar to people that came in this world from real world old India in culture and in religion. They were quite hateful towards other races, which can be seen in how most of prcs nowadays are still considered wild barbarians, and some groups of Elves are still nationalists or belong to others ultra-right ideologies.
  4. Hellish Constitutional State, or how race others than demons call it, Demon Empire is... Well, not Hellish, because it is located in the mortal world, not Empire, because it is and oligarchical respublic, not Demon, because most of the people there are subject mortal races like some ethnicities orcs and humans. At least, it is Constitutional and a State?.. Well, it is not a state, but a subject of larger Empire, the actual Hellish Constitutional Imperial Respublican State, which is placed in the Hell, but not even in the Hell of this world.
Now guess which one is a lie!

2024.06.09 17:12 A-R-U Warrior Cats Game Ideas/Possibilities

So I came across a post recently, where the person asked what we would want in a warrior's game, and it got me to remember a document I had made ages ago now regarding that. Now warning, this post is extremely long, and much of what I've written down probably isn't possible to achive (I'm no game develouper). But if you're curious, and find something you like on this list that's do-able, then feel free to run with it, cause I would love to see this in action. (Sorry for any weird spelling/grammar, this is my second language).
Character Creation:
Breed:
-Pureblood.
-Mixed between 2 (the player can choose which trait they want from which breed).
-A specific breed with some minor differences/changes, due to mix breeding.
-A mix of several breeds (from 6 to 10 different breeds, choosing between which trait/look you want from which breed).
-Normal house cat (breeds unknown/unrecognizable/unimportant, free to choose whatever looks/traits from whatever breed).
Fur:
Patterns:
-Single color (with/without different areas with lightedarker markings).
-Single color, except for one, partly or fully, different colored body part.
-Two colors (the player can choose where they want which color to be and the size and shape of the different colors).
-Tabby (choose if the markings are paler or darker in color compared to the main, solid one): Spotted, Classic, Mackerel, Ticked, Patched Tabby markings (in regards to the patched tabby, the player can choose where they want which color to be and the size and shape of the patched areas).
-Multi Colored: Tortoiseshell (bridled, patched), Calico (traditional, dilute, patched tabby). The player can choose where they want which color to be and the size and shape.
-Color Points: Lynx, Seal-Mink, Seal-Point, Seal-Solid.
Colors: Amber, light amber, smoke, black, blue, caramel, caramel 2, chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, fawn, light brown, red, dark red, ginger, pale ginger, cream, apricot, orange, sandy, white, gray, dark gray, light gray, silver, brown, dark brown, golden, golden-brown.
-Albino (half or full).
Choose realistic or unrealistic color patterns/combinations (unrealistic = the colors themselves are realistic ones that naturally show up in cats, but the colopattern combinations that can be mixed together aren’t).
Volume, Amount, Length, Appearance:
-Thick, dense, thin.
-Long, medium, short.
-Curly, glossy, wirehair, normal, fluffy.
-Extra fur around the neck, between toes and inside/on top of ears.
-Double layer coat.
-Hairless.
Build:
-Height: Small, big, normal, between small/normal and normal/big (a bar the player can slide to adjust the size).
-Shape: Skinny, lean, sturdy, muscular.
Looks:
Eyes:
-Color: Gray, yellow-gray, blue-gray, blue, blue-green, green, hazel, yellow, amber, orange, brown, red.
-In each: The same color in both eyes, complete heterochromia, sectoral heterochromia in both eyes, one eye with complete heterochromia and one with sectoral heterochromia.
-Shape: Almond, round, oval.
Nose:
-Shape: Flat, normal.
-Color(s).
Whiskers:
-Length.
-Shape: Straight, curly.
Legs:
Length: Hind legs can be longer than the front legs or all 4 can be of the same length.
Tail:
-Length.
-Look: Plump, feathery, thin, bushy or stumpy/bobbed.
-Tailless.
Ears:
-Size.
-Shape: Rounded, folded, floppy, loosely folded, curled (from 90 to 180 degrees), straight.
Shoulders:
-Size: Broad or normal.
Face:
-Shape: Flat (mild, moderate, profound, severe), round, triangle, square.
Scars: Choose the length, shape, how visible they are, where they are, the amount. (Some will show up after battle practice, and the others after fighting).
Mutation:
Face: Half the player character’s face is a darker color, the other half is a lighter one (the player can choose the two colors).
Paws:
-Split-foot (syndactyly).
-Extra number of toes - only front paws, or with back legs as well - , 4 to 7 on each (Polydactyly).
-Thumb-cat - 1 or more extra toes around the dew claw specifically - (Polydactyly).
Pelt: Vitiligo (players can choose between a spotted pattern, whole areas turning white, or both, and how much of the white color takes over).
Ears: Four ears.
Tail: Shortened and kinked (japanese bobtail gene), no tail (manx tailless gene).
Size: Dwarfism (dwarf cat gene).
Others:
-Missing body part.
-Reduced or complete loss of hearing or vision (one eaeye can also be completely gone - senses vice - while another is reduced, one eaeye can be gone/reduced while the other one is working, one ear and one eye each can be gone/reduced, and both eyes and both ears be gone/reduced. Although, I must admit, I have no idea how it would work gameplay vice if a character is completely blind and deaf, or has one eye/ear with reduced vision/hearing while the other 3 are completely gone).
Any missing/partly missing body part, mutation or reduced/complete loss of the senses will make the game harder and can cause the player character to go through a special training arc.
Other Choices:
Clan. (Player’s choice, or take an in-game test with the possibility of getting more than 1 clan as an answer - making the player a half-clan cat if they go with that, with the clan they got the highest percentage of being the clan the character is born in).
Blood ties: Full blooded, half-blooded cats (the player can choose what trait/skills they want from each clan. It will cause the player character to have a longer apprenticeship in order to prove the player character’s loyalty and dedication as gaining the trust of their fellow clanmates will be harder).
The half-clan option can lead to several different possible outcomes for the parents, the player character and siblings depending on how the player played the game and how well and how many in-game characters trust and like the player character unless the player chooses something specific. The player can also choose how far back in the family tree the half-clan blood runs and who (if only one) of the parents has it.
Family situation:
-If the player character’s parents live in different clans, if one of them moved to the other’s, if they’re still together and if they get along or not, if one or both of them found another mate, and if they end up switching clans at some point during the playthrough.
-Whether the player character grows up with their mother’s or father’s clan (if the parent’s lives in different clans. The game will provide the player character with a foster mother and siblings if the player chooses the father’s clan).
-If the player character grows up with siblings, and whether or not none, some of or all of their siblings live with the player character (if the parent’s live in different clans), and if the player character knows about their other siblings - and if the siblings knows about them, or only the siblings know - if they do live in different clans.
-The player can also choose if their character and clan knows or is unaware about the fact that they are half-clan (the player can also choose if only the clan or only the player character is aware/unaware of it).
-Parent(s) with half-blood (what traits they have from each clan, and if they’re in one of the clans they have blood ties to, or in one of the other three. If they are in one of the other clans this will give the player the opportunity to add traits from said third clan to their character, deciding how many/few traits the player character gets from each clan, as long as one of the player character’s other parent has blood ties to the third clan).
Most traits from=check off 6 boxes, some traits from=check off 4 boxes, few traits from=check off 2 boxes. In case of half-clans the player can check off 6 boxes from each side/clans, or remove some from one side and spend them on the other. If both parents have blood from the same clan, that clan/side has to be what the player character has the most filled out boxes from.
-What role the player character’s parents have (including being a medicine cat. The different roles affect how the player character is treated).
Character vice:
-Gender.
-The Medicine cat path.
-The Warrior path.
-If the player character ends up becoming leader or not.
-The player character’s voice.
-The player character’s name (either the whole name or just the first part, in which case the second part will be given based on your dialogue choices/reputation and what specific skill(s) the player character excels at).
-Choose what the player wants their character to be honored for during the full name ceremony or have the game choose based on the player character’s game-play/performance (same with what lives the player character receives if they become clan leader).
Likes/Dislikes/Preferences, player character vice and npc vice:
-Fur color(s)/pattern, eye color, build, gender and personality regarding npc’s.
-Sayings/expressions.
-Rival clans.
-Other ranks within the clan.
-Half-clan cats.
-Places.
-Prey.
-Weather.
-Seasons.
How player character feels about:
-Rouges/loners/kittypets.
-The opposite gender.
-Different personalities.
These choices will affect the dialog options in the game.
After finishing the game the 1st time, the player will be able to go to the menu and choose one of the special powers mentioned in the series (maybe also some new ones) to give to your character. The player can also go into the menu and change it during the play-through if they want. And they can choose to play as a character from the Warriors series.
Possibly other choices:
-The personality of the player character’s parents (if they stay close or grow distant/cold towards the player character. What they feel about their former mate, if they still see the player character as their kit, or regret having them).
-The looks of the player character’s parents (unless they’re the foster family).
-The looks of the player character’s siblings (unless they’re the foster family).
-Number of siblings (unless they’re the foster family).
-The sibling’s names (unless they’re the foster family).
-The sibling’s genders (unless they’re the foster family).
-The personality of the siblings (unless they’re the foster family).
-The future position of the siblings (unless they’re the foster family).
-If the player character and the siblings are half-clan, what traits each of them got from the other clan(s).
-If the player character or one of the siblings are the player character’s parent’s favorite or if everyone gets equal attention/love (regardless if they’re the foster family or not).
-How the player character’s siblings feel about one another and the player character. Who’s their favorite sibling to hang out with, who they don’t get as well along with, if any (regardless if they’re the foster family or not).
-If the player character and the siblings are half-clan, what they feel about being half-clan, what they feel about the way the clan treats them and if they want to, and if they end up, switching clans.
-If one or both of the parents passes away and when (before birth, during your character’s kit-hood, as an apprenticeship, afteshortly after becoming a warrior), giving the player the possibility of being in a clan that mostly don’t trust the player character, with only the player character’s siblings for comfort if the player chose the “parents in different clans” option (if the player choose for both of the parents to pass away or the mom while the player character lives in their clan while the player character is a kit, the game will give the player a foster family).
-An option for it being certain and one for being uncertain about whether or not all of the player character’s siblings survive into adulthood/survive long enough to become elders, and whether or not the player character’s parent(s) survives long enough to become an elder.
-Having the option to start the second playthrough as a kittypet, loner or rogue (full, or part kittypet/rogue, kittypet/clan cat, rogue/clancat, lonekittypet, lonerogue, loneclancat). The player can choose if they encounter the clan through positive or negative reasons. Choose at what age the player character meets the clan. Choose whether the player character’s siblings, all of them or just some, choose to join the clan as well and if they choose to join the same or want to join a different clan.
-Choose which season (and possibly time of day/night) the player character is born in.
-A button that randomly picks every choice the player can make in the “Other Choices and Possibly other choices“ part (apart from the Character vice, Likes/dislikes/preferences and How player character feels about part of the list).
-A button that randomly picks every choice the player can make in the “Character vice, Likes/dislikes/preferences and How player character feels about” parts specifically.
-A button that randomly picks every choice the player can make in the “Character Creation” part.
-A button that randomly picks every choice the player can make in the “Mutation” part.
-A button that randomly picks every choice the player can make.
Every randomize button also gives the player the option to cross out boxes that they don’t want checked off, as well as check off boxes that they do want to specifically get chosen.
-A peace mode where the player can walk around and enjoy the territory without the risk of enemies/events, and possibly the other clan’s territories and camp, watching the in-game characters walk around, performing tasks and interacting with each other without the risk of getting attacked/hurt.
Game-play:
The Warrior Apprentice Path:
-Learn about the warrior code.

-Roam freely through the territory whenever.
-Take fallen warriors to the burial place and help bury them.
-Based on the player character’s dialogue/options, the player character can either pass away during a raid on the camp, defending their clan members one last time, or pass away in their sleep during peaceful times.
-A cut scene plays out where the player character hears the voices of old clanmates calling them, and their spirit stands up and walks upwards towards the starry sky.
-As the camera goes from the ground to the sky (birdseye view), the player sees the player character’s clan leader give their speech about the player character at their vigil, and then after zooming further up, the player hears the player character’s clan leader informing the other clans of the player character’s passing during the next Gathering, before the player start playing as a StarClan/Dark Forest cat.
The Kit path:
-Spend some time exploring the camp, playing, make friends, practicing the hunter's crouch, leaping, surprise attacks and wrestling, meeting clanmates and listen to the elder’s stories (after the first playthrough the player can go into the menu and reduce the amount of time the player’s new character(s) spends as a kit).
-If the player character’s spend some time with a specific warrior the odds of that cat becoming the player character’s mentor increases.
-Go through the player character’s apprentice ceremony (skippable).
Playthrough:
-Starts with the player character’s opening their eyes for the first time.
-Encounter different cats outside the player character’s territory.
-During hunting or stealth/sneaking mode make sure not to step on or brush against anything that can make sound or move giving away the player character’s position.
-Make sure the wind is towards the player character, and keep to the shadows if possible.
-Activate a “scent mode”, where the player character gets to see everything in different colors, each color representing a scent (the amount of it telling how old or new it is).
-The player character’s get points based on how well the player character hunts, fights and helps out inside the clan, and if the player character’s do well enough the player character gets taken to Gatherings.
-Getting caught breaking the code will result in punishment.
-Stay a clan cat, switch clan, become a loner, rogue or kittypet (which can cause the player character’s to not end up in StarClan/The Dark Forest).
-The game ends with the player character joining StarClan or The Dark Forest after a lifetime (or 9).
-How your clanmates remember the player character will be based on the player’s choices, how well the player played, and how much they learned.
After the first playthrough the player can choose to start with their new character as a newly made apprentice or warrior (starting with the ceremony).
Other stuff in the game:
-Day/night and seasons cycle.
-Easy, normal, though, challenging and random mode. Makes it so that events such as outbreaks of different illnesses, different natural disasters, harsh/long seasons, prey shortage (and prey getting poisoned/contaminated), conflict/tension, invading forces (other clans/groups of cats/animals), low number of warriors/shortage of new kits being born, losing territory, two/three rival clans joining together to face off against your character’s clan, clanmate(s) trying to overthrow and take over leadership of the player character’s clan, and wars happen a specific amount of time within each mode.
Easy: 0-2 things.
Normal: 3-5 things.
Though: 6-8 things.
Challenging: 9-11 things.
Random lvl button: The game picks (same with the other randomize buttons, the player can cross out the challenge lvl the player doesn't want to be included).
Random events list: Allows the player to cross out events they don’t want to happen, and check off events they specially do want to encounter, before picking a lvl/clicking the random lvl button.
-The player character could end up being taken prisoner if they’re found sneaking around inside another clan’s territory. The player will either have to try to escape, or wait until their clan sacrifices something for the player character’s return.
-If the player character ends up getting too many punishments from getting caught breaking the warrior code too many times, the whole clan can grow to distrust, and eventually, even kick the player character out.
-If npc’s finds the player character on their territory alone often, that rival clan will be on a look out, more hostile/aggressive towards, and talk about/discuss the player character in a negative way during Gatherings (this could have a negative effect on a patrol if the player character is part of a patrol traveling to an enemy camp).
-If the player character has a good reputation, enemy warriors will respect and enemy apprentices might look up to and admire the player character and talk in an positive light and exited way about the player character at Gatherings (this could have a positive effect on a patrol if the player character is part of a patrol traveling to an enemy camp).
-Kits could end up playing pretend as the player character regardless of the distrust/trusted status.
-Follow an evil route and the player character could end up becoming a scary story that keeps disobedient kits inside their dens at night/inside their camp.
-Follow a good route and the player character could end up becoming a popular and exciting bedtime story for the kits.
-Every "cross off box if the player don't want that" and "check off box if the player want that" choice also has a "leave it up to chance" option, independent off the different randomize buttons.
Stuff that could possibly be different between each playthrough:
-Different cats could end up becoming mates and different she-cats can become queens (also resulting in different kits being born).
-Different characters could end up dying or be named deputy if the player character isn’t.
-Different cats could start off as leaders.
-Different cats could end up being leaders, medicine cats, medicine cat apprentices, and warrior apprentices could have different mentors.
-StarClan can send new, or no, prophecies/warnings.
-Npc’s could keep their personality/alliance throughout the playthroughs, or end up changing, depending on: If they fall in love with an outsider or rival clan member. Who they follow. If they have something against the leadethe way the leader leads the clan, or the player character. What happens to them throughout their lives.
-The leader could turn evil and try to prove the clan’s strength and glory through endless battles, try to drive off one of the other clans, or try to merge several clans into one (and this could be challenges the player character could end up facing if they become the leader).
-The medicine cat could lose faith in or be angry at StarClan, and use their powers/knowledge against the clan or to shatter other npc’s faith in StarClan.
It will be up to the player character to help prevent/solve these npc/leademedicine cat events. The player will have the option to choose if these specific events can happen or not during their different playthroughs.
-Different npc’s could end up trying to befriend, fall for and become rivals (both friendly and non friendly) the player character. This could give npc’s from a playthrough where they weren’t in focus/as important more depth/personality.
There could also possibly be a list over the different npc’s, where the player can cross off if a/some specific npc(‘s) should be more in focus/more important during their playthroughs, and what specific role that/those npc/’s will play.
If the player makes several characters, the player can see them in camp, and on the territory if they’re in the same clan, or during border patrols, Gatherings, attacks, or if they arrive in the player’s current character’s camp with their leader if they’re in different.
-The player character could end up with different apprentices throughout the different playthroughs. The player can also decide if they want their player character to end up as a mentor or not, or leave it up to chance, through each playthrough.
Possible Player Character's Family Choices:
-Number of kits.
-Weather or not player character's mate/kits makes it to old age/adulthood or not.
-Personality, gender, future rank, names, and if the kits ends up with mates/kits of their own or not.
-If the player chooses a half-clan mate, which traits the player character's kits gets from which clan.
-Where the kits live if the player's character and the player character's mates stays in different clans, if the kits knows about both parents, if only the player's character knows that they're family, if only the kits knows about the player's character (if the player character is unaware about their birth - if the player plays as a tom - ). If the kits gets a foster parent/siblings if they stay in different clans, if the kits are aware of their half-clan status.
Controls:
-The view could be behind/over the shoulder, or through the player character’s eyes, or both switching freely.
-Fighting, battle training, tree climbing, fishing, swimming, leaping, pouncing on prey and obstacle course could be a combination of using the moving buttons and mouse or button clicking).
-The player can save and switch characters whenever they want.
DLC or Sequel:
-At a young age, the player character, and their siblings and mother spot a group of strange cats traveling from the mountains to the moorland and forest area not far from the two-leg place, where the player character’s family lives as loners.
-The player character’s mother makes sure the player character stays well away from them, as blood is suddenly being shed over newly made borders and the prey within, kin attacking kin over the right for space and having prey in their mouths.
-When the player character’s mother passes, the player character must make a choice. Try to survive on their own, or join this strange, rouge group of cats?
-Will the player character stay in the group or leave and try to fend for themselves?
-Does the player character switch alliances to a different group, or do they stay with the group that took the player character in when no one else might have had?
-Learn a new way of life and survival depending on where the player choose to live.
-Try to survive and get enough prey through leaf-bare as hostile strangers and hungry rivaling groups eye the player character’s prey.
-Help keep the campmates safe by helping them fight off intruders with the goal of chasing the player character’s group off.
-Get through harsh seasons and fight off dogs, foxes and badgers.
-Learn how to heal campmates with herbs or help them by training kits and gathering prey.
-Attend their meeting every full moon and learn their history (as a tribe or their personal one) and about the other groups.
-Find a mate, start a family, and fight to protect and keep them alive through storms and diseases.
-Watch them grow into independent adults and expand the family tree.
-Walk in the paw steps of the mysterious mountain cats and become a true wild cat and a part of the early 5 clans.
-A cut-scene at the end of the DLC/Sequel will play, showing the player’s 1st character, or the/one of the character(s) from the same clan the player character is in in this DLC/Sequel, from the main/1st game, as a kit in the nursery, being told a story about one of their earliest ancestors, the character the player just played, in modern ThundeShadow/Wind/RiveSkyClan.

2024.06.09 16:46 Battlesmith707 Dispossessed Homebrew Archetypes: Warden Prince, Cogsmith, Ranger, Alms Matron

So, having created my Runesmith Archetype as well as a Khazalid Runework mechanic, I'm going to build four more archetypes, each representing an aspect of Duardin society. It is strongly encouraged that you check out my Runesmith archetype, because at least two of these archetypes start with runes.
First we have the Warden Prince - a frontline fighter who also has some room to dabble in leadership or diplomacy skills.
Then there's the Cogsmith - a character with high crafting who is primarily focused on ranged damage using black powder weaponry, but also gets bonuses when operating war machines or artillery.
After that is the Ranger - a versatile class that specializes in stealth and ranged combat, but also has the tools needed to be a decent frontline fighter in a pinch.
Lastly there is the Alms Matron. The Alms Matron is a name I pulled from a novel called Chronicles of the Wanderer. From what I gather they're basically the Priestesses of Valaya. The Alms Matron is primarily a support class who can use Miracles - I've taken a bunch of thematic miracles from Alarielle, Grimnir, and Grungni, and reflavoured them around Valaya. She also has access to a number of skills and talents that may serve the party outside of combat. I will note that her ability to use Miracles might not strictly be lore accurate, but at the same time - if Grimnir gets Miracles despite being dead, and Grungni gets Miracles despite being an absentee god, why can't Valaya?
All-in-all I feel like I've laid the groundwork to have a relatively balanced well-rounded party consisting of nothing but Dispossessed.
WARDEN PRINCE
Warden Kings are the rulers of the Dispossessed Clans, and like most Kings, they require heirs. A Warden Prince is the son of a Warden King. From a young age they are trained to fight and to lead, with the expectation that their father shall not live forever. However only one of these children - the eldest son - can take their father's throne. Which then raises the question of what the remainder will do. Some serve the new King as generals and advisors, while others are married off to prominent figures within the clan, or to different clans entirely.
Others become Soulbound.
Many young Dispossessed Princes (and Princesses) who find themselves low in the line of succession leap at the chance to join a Binding. It is an opportunity to earn glory for themselves and their clan without forever remaining in the shadow of their older siblings, and it is also a respectable way to avoid being assigned an unwanted marriage. It also provides a chance to travel the Mortal Realms and potentially even explore the lost Karaks - many Soulbound Warden Princes dream of the day they can say they were the first to set foot in their clan's ancestral home in over five centuries.
A Warden Prince is a trained and well-equipped fighter, who due to the length of Duardin lifespans may already have decades of experience under their belt. Not only can they fight, but they can also lead - having been raised with the expectation that they will play a commanding role in either the court or the armies of their father or one of their brothers. It is possible that a Warden Prince may even have experience leading Throngs into battle. Beyond that, Warden Princes are also royalty, which may prove to be a boon when interacting with the aristocracy of other factions. Thus they are a welcome addition to any Binding of Order.
While travelling with the Binding, a Warden Prince may insist that they explore any lost Karaks they discover if it does not interfere with the Binding's other obligations. The Prince may wish to either scout them out for possible reclamation, or recover lost treasures. The Prince may appear enthusiastic about this at first, but once they finally walk the empty halls they may find themselves becoming depressed, melancholy, or even angry as they are struck by the full reality of their people's fall from glory.

IRONWELD COGSMITH
The Ironweld Arsenal - the great union of Duardin and Human Engineering. As Engineers of the Ironweld Arsenal, Cogsmiths are vital to the Cities of Sigmar war machine. Working closely with their human counterparts, they design, build, maintain, and repair the machinery, vehicles, artillery, and firearms wielded by Sigmar's mortal armies.
It is perhaps little surprise then that many Cogsmiths are happy to become Soulbound. An extended lifespan and ample opportunity to test out their new inventions aside, they are also well-accustomed to working alongside and learning from other species. The Cogsmiths for their part bring a lot to the table - they are expert tinkerers, able to help repair and even improve the weapons of their Binding. They are well-versed in the operation of war machines and vehicles, able to coax more out of them than most. A Cogsmith is also a formidable combatant in their own right, having personally tested many of their own designs, and became a skilled marksman as a result.

Ironweld Engineer
You are a certified member of the Ironweld Arsenal, one of the brightest minds of Duardin and Human Engineering. Whenever you are operating a war machine, a vehicle, or a weapon mounted on a vehicle, and you are required to make a Ballistics Skill Test, you may choose to either substitute your Crafting Skill, or double your Training in Ballistics Skill - whichever one is more likely to yield a better result.
In addition to this, as an Endeavour and with 50D worth of crafting materials you can spend one week tinkering with a handheld non-Aetheric firearm to improve it. This requires Smith's Tools and access to a Workshop. You can make three attempts at an Extended Mind (Crafting) Test with a DN of 5:8. If you succeed, you may apply one of the following upgrades:
  • Improved Sights: While firing this weapon, the wielder's accuracy increases by one step.
  • Longer Barrel: The firearm's range is extended by one zone. Incompatible with Double-Barrel.
  • Double-Barrel: The firearm now has a second barrel. When you make an attack with this weapon, you may either treat it as a dual-wielding attack and split your dice pool, or as a single attack that does extra damage (2 if the weapon is two-handed, 1 if it is one-handed.) Unfortunately, whatever weapon you apply this to also gains the Reload trait if it does not have it already. Incompatible with Longer Barrel.
  • Armour-Piercing: The firearm gains the Penetrating Trait.
  • Armour-Breaking: The firearm gains the Rend Trait.
Only two of these upgrades may be active on a weapon at a time. They are not permanent and can be changed.
DISPOSSESSED RANGER
When asked to describe the natural gifts of the Duardin, few would ever think to list stealth as one of them. But it is - if they put their mind to it. Rangers fulfill a vital niche in Duardin armies - that of scouts, skirmishers, infiltrators, and sharpshooters. In the days of the Khazalid Empire, it was the rangers who kept borders clear of Monsters, Greenskins, and Beastmen. It was the rangers who would not only warn settlements of incoming attack, but also harry and harass the foe by any means necessary while the Throngs were mustered. Even today, long after the Khazalid Empire's collapse, the Dispossessed Clans still have use for rangers. Indeed, it was the rangers who weathered the fall the easiest, for they were accustomed to wandering without a home.
The life of a Ranger is that of a wanderer - spending weeks or even months traversing the wilds, and camping under the open stars. The only Duardin who would voluntarily seek out this life are either outcasts or free-spirits, independently-minded with a strong sense of wanderlust. It is a thankless job - their greatest deeds are committed far from any settlement or army, and therefore go unwitnessed. Most Duardin find their lifestyle and tactics disturbing, and thus, treat them with (usually unwaranted) suspicion.
It is little wonder then that a Ranger would be eager to become Soulbound. As a Soulbound, they are more likely to be working with people who have fewer qualms about their tactics, and may even appreciate their skillset. They can spend greater periods of time travelling, being deployed throughout the Mortal Realms in direct service to a higher power, with no obligation of a clan to return to. It is also possible that the Ranger may have a Criminal past they are attempting to escape from. Members of a Binding may also find a Ranger's company preferable to that of other Duardin, for Rangers tend to be less hidebound than most of their Dispossessed kin, while still retaining a strong sense of duty and integrity.

While adventuring in this terrain, you can double the dice you receive from Training in Stealth. As a week-long Endeavour you can spend 50D to change the dye.
Signalling Horn

If blown from high ground (such as a hill, tower, or mountain) or within a tunnel, the range can be extended at the GM's discretion. Any creature standing in the same zone as the horn when it is blown, including the hornblower, must pass either a Body (Reflexes) Test or a Mind (Fortitude) Test with a DN of 5:2. If they fail, they are deafened for one minute (ten turns.)
ALMS MATRON
Little is known about the Alms Matrons - also known as the Priestesses of Valaya, Duardin Ancestor Goddess of Hearth and Home. The birth rate of Duardin females was already low to begin with, and most Dispossessed Clans are fiercely protective of their women as a result. Even more confounding is the worship of the dead goddess Valaya. Despite all this, Priestesses of Valaya are an integral part of Dispossessed society - primarily serving as healers and mediators. They wield immense influence over the internal politics of their clans, and all Dispossessed instinctively treat them with respect.
It is not impossible that, in less hidebound clans, Duardin of other genders may come to serve Valaya in the same capacity. But it would be regarded as unusual.
Valaya's fate remains a mystery. Some say she is dead, others say she is in hiding. Some say she died during the Great Betrayal, others say her death came long before that - possibly during the last days of the World-That-Was. Some say she will return, as the Fyreslayers believe Grimnir will, while others have given up any hope of this. In either case, it takes far more than the death of their God to make a Duardin abandon their faith.
Additional puzzlement comes in the fact that some Alms Matrons have been known to invoke Miracles of their goddess. Scholars can only speculate as to why this is - perhaps it is due to the power of their faith, or maybe Valaya does still exist in some form. Humans and Aelven scholars have also put forward the idea that perhaps Alarielle or Grungni are behind this.
It is exceedingly rare for an Alms Matron to become a Soulbound, primarily because it is difficult to convince a servant of Hearth and Home to leave both of those things behind. But it can happen, especially if there are other Duardin in the Binding or the Binding's goals align with the Clan's. Though not well-suited to direct combat, Alms Matrons can serve their Bindings in other useful ways - as healers, diplomats, scholars, and priests.

(Note: These Miracles are ultimately just reflavoured Miracles of Grungni, Grimnir, and Alarielle from the Core Rulebook and Champions of Order. I might homebrew actual Miracles of Valaya in the future, but for now you can use these as a stand-in.)
Hearth Queen's Balance
Target: 1
Range: Close
Duration: Instant
You can heal the wounds of another by taking on a portion of their suffering. A creature you touch can reduce the severity of one Wound. In exchange, you must take a Minor Wound or increase the severity of a Wound you already have.
Blessing of Valaya
Target: Zone
Range: Long
Duration: Permanent
You infuse the earth with the essence of life, causing plants in an area to grow and bloom. This can be used to bolster crops and revitalise a land tainted by Chaos. You can also choose to shape the growth into simple structures, such as growing winding roots and vines into a ladder or small bridge, or creating cover for you and your allies. In combat, these simple structures can form bridges between Zones, or can be used to give one Zone the Cover Trait
The plants and wildlife created by this Miracle are permanent but will decay naturally if left unattended in an inhospitable environment.
Wrath of the Hearthqueen
Cost: 1 Mettle
Target: Zone
Range: Medium
Duration: Sustained
You fill an area with uncomfortable searing heat, scalding and disorienting any who trespass there. Choose a Zone within Medium Range. That Zone gains the Difficult Terrain and Minor Hazard Traits. Additionally, creatures entering or starting their turn in the Zone must make a DN 6:1 Body (Might) Test or be Restrained until the start of their next turn. When you use this Miracle, you can choose to spend an additional Mettle to increase the Complexity of this Test by 1, to DN 6:2. On your turn, you can spend 1 Mettle as a Free Action to sustain this Miracle.
Heat of the Hearth
Target: Zone
Range: Self
Duration: Instant
A wave of heat washes over your zone, comforting your allies and scalding your foes. Make a 5:1 Soul (Devotion) test.
  • You and your allies within your zone recover one toughness per success.
  • Enemies within your zone suffer one damage per success.
You may spend a mettle to trigger both effets.
Find Strength in Her Absence
Target: 1
Range: Long
Duration: Sustained
Cost: 1 Mettle
Choose an allied target within long range. While the target has no allies in the same Zone, its Melee and Accuracy increase by two steps and it gains +2 Armour. If an ally enters the target’s Zone, this Miracle’s effect is suppressed until the ally leaves the Zone again. On your turn, you can spend 1 Mettle as a Free Action to sustain this Miracle.
Hearth Queen's Endurance
Target: Zone
Range: Self
Duration: Sustained
Make a DN 6:1 Soul (Devotion) Test. Whenever you or your allies within Short Range suffer Damage caused by fire or heat, reduce the Damage by 1 for each success. On your turn, you can spend 1 Mettle as a Free Action to sustain this Miracle.
Cauterise
Target: 1
Range: Close
Duration: Instant
Heat can be used as a tool of healing. Make a DN 4:1 Soul (Devotion) Test as you place a Holy Symbol of Valaya on a wounded ally. They recover Toughness equal to 1 plus the number of successes. When you use this Miracle, you can choose to spend a Mettle to add your Soul to the Toughness recovered.
Comforting Embers
Target: Allies within range
Range: Short
Duration: Sustained
Cost: 1 Mettle
You call forth a rain of glowing embers that fill your allies with warmth and encourage them to press on. When you use this Miracle, allies within range increase their Speed by one step and ignore Difficult Terrain until the beginning of your next turn, though they cannot Flee or Retreat until the Miracle ends. On your turn, you can spend 1 Mettle as a Free Action to sustain this Miracle.

2024.06.09 15:34 Limestorm_ The day Lake ran with LEADERS’ blood The Red Gathering, Newleaf, 90 CE AU Story, Part 1

It is the first part of my AU clan story, a loose collection of events written more in the style of a documentary than a novel, highlighting only the most important moments and quotes. Tell me what you think, I'll post more parts and allegiances soon. Here it is:
As the first glimpses of the moonlight appeared in the black sky, illuminating the travelling cats, the danger was already in the air. For some time now, the Lake Territories were being invaded by an unknown group of cats. They always appeared in number, were uninterested in talks, and ready to kill if challenged. Attempts to reconquer the land were always met by decisive action and foiled by the much more numerous enemy.
The hope of the ThunderClan leader, Brackenstar, was that the issue would be resolved at the upcoming Gathering, but events moved faster than he expected. Yesterday, after another of his clanmates was killed, he was forced to prohibit his cats from hunting north of the camp and change the route of patrols, effectively abandoning over half of his territory to the rogues.
And yet, there he was, marching towards the island. His whole clan was with him - he wouldn't dare to leave a weakened camp with cats inside. When they arrived on the island, all the remaining clans were already present. The atmosphere was tense, no one was speaking or exchanging news, only watching the approaching ThunderClan warriors.
As the Gathering begun, the first topic was that of the rogues. The cats were divided. ThunderClan and SkyClan requested the five clans join their forces to expel the enemy, ShadowClan was hesitant, while yet unaffected RiverClan and WindClan were unwilling to make a hasty decision.
"Your obstinacy may cost us our existence!" the Risingstar of SkyClan told Nightstar of RiverClan, "I know the enemy, and I know, there's nothing for us to gain from waiting. What we need is not thinking, but a decisive action to vanquish the forces that threaten us!"
Nightstar argued, but his voice was cut by a shout from the back. The words no cat would want to hear or say fell, silencing the quarrel. "They are here! The RiverClan camp has fallen!" At that moment cats flooded onto the island. First, escaping RiverClan, then Rogues.
The messy defense, which the unorganized cats provided lost them the opportunity to hold the attack at the crossing point. The Rogues quickly established a breach on the shore and started pushing clan warriors further away from the tree trunk that served as a bridge. The first to react was Brackenstar, jumping off the branch and leading his cats with a rallying cry. He ordered his freshly appointed deputy, Olivefur, to secure elders, kits and medicine cats and move them to the other side of the island. Soon the other clans joined in, but it was too late. They fought valiantly, but to no effect. They soon found themselves yielding more ground to the relentless onslaught.
Some of the RiverClan cats, led by Blackpelt, suggested fleeing by lake onto the other shore. Meanwhile Olivefur, helped by Nettleleaf and Eaglefeather managed to break a branch from one of the trees and used it to cross the lake with four medicine cats and some warriors. It is often described that Olivefur opposed the idea of fleeing and had to be dragged onto the branch by Nettleleaf, who more strategically, pointed out that after crossing the lake the medicine cats would need escort as well.
As they moved out, their clanmates' defense started collapsing. From the water they could see Brackenstar falling under the Rogue claws. On the other side, Nightstar, after overseeing the retreat of his cats, entered the water himself, carrying one of the younger ThunderClan warriors. Deprived of leadership and without hope for victory, cats of all clans fought side by side till the end or tried to save themselves by swimming in the cold early-Newleaf water. The chaotic retreat left many of the cats dead, most on the island itself, but there were many who drowned or were hunted down after reaching the mainland.
Fleeing by a wooden branch, Olivefur and her cats landed on the ThunderClan shore, and were almost immediately targeted by a Rogue patrol. Having some ten cats with them, they were a force to not be taken lightly, but even they soon found themselves outnumbered. On Eaglefeather’s suggestion, they fled into the underground tunnels, planning to reach WindClan territory, the one least affected so far. The plan almost fell apart when a Rogue patrol appeared behind them.
"Go on. I'll slow them down," Nettlleaf's words sounded from the end of the escaping group. Olivefur was unwilling to abandon another one of her clanmates but moved forward. It is unknown how exactly Nettleleaf died, but her heroic sacrifice slowed the pursuit for surprisingly long, allowing the rest to reach WindClan camp unharmed. There, they found Rogue cats as well, besieging a group of defenders. They swiftly broke through and chased away the enemy with the help of a group of RiverClan cats that emerged from the other side led by Blackpelt.
Numbering now around twenty cats, they decided to look for more survivors. At first, they successfully rescued several more cats, including the RiverClan leader, Nightstar, the only one of the five to survive, as it would prove later. Yet, as they moved into the RiverClan territory they found increasing opposition and soon had to abandon the search and flee. They regrouped on the outskirts of the WindClan territory and set up a temporary camp. For the next week they found several more escapees, but then, were chased away again.
Faced by an overwhelming enemy, themselves underfed, exhausted and carrying wounded, they decided to abandon the Lake Territories. In total, of some two hundred cats that lived around the lake, only exactly forty-six set off with Olivefur's group.
Up to this day, it is unknown if and how many any other clan cats fled, never reuniting with the largest group, but it is possible such existed. Of the five clans, SkyClan suffered the worst fate, left with only two warriors and a medicine cat. Blackfeather agreed for her mate, Crackedcloud to take the role of the clan leader. In ThunderClan, that honor rightfully fell on Olivestar, who appointed Eaglefeather, her mate, to be the deputy. In WindClan, Wildstar was elected, while similarly to ThunderClan's case, the ShadowClan deputy, Greenstar, took command of his clan. The least affected was RiverClan, where the only change was Blackpelt's appointment for deputy - for his courage and quick thinking in face of danger that saved many lives.
And thus, the five clans, shadows of their former selves, set off into the unknown, a great adventure which begun a new age in the history of the clans - one of pain and suffering, but also of courage, honor, and one that forged the greatest legend in the clan's recent history, shadowed only by the great Firestar.
Context: The CE, or Clan Era, started with the events from the book S4E6 "The Last Hope". The story may not be consistent with some of the later books, thought so much time passed probably no one will notice.

2024.06.09 14:06 Competitive_Crow_334 Chapter 1: Creation and the Garden of Eden

Question 1: Creation
Then God saw everything he had made and indeed it was very good. So evening and morning were the 6th day. Thus heaven and earth and all their adornment were finished and on the seventh day God finished the works he made. Then God blessed the 7th day and sanctified it because in it He rested from all his works God began to make.
This story doesn’t add up where God come from and why then? Even as someone who believes there is a creator I don’t understand how it’s him and if he is as powerful as he is why did it take him 7 days to make the earth and then need rest? Shouldn’t someone so powerful think of it in an instant? Also how is time told he doesn’t make the sun and moon until the 4th day so how were evening and morning created in the start? If he created the universe and every animal why didn’t he mention dinosaurs or the ice age or even give a significant hint of one instead of being vague with the creeping things and the wild animals of earth if he knew about those ahead of time wouldn’t mentioning it help prove that he is an almighty being who can see into the future? Yes you could argue that maybe it’s not important but remember if Adam and Eve came to earth later how come it doesn’t add up to what we know about the dinosaurs and the ice age? How come God didn’t mention removing them for the safety of Adam and Eve?
Also about firmament which I found out is separating heaven from earth and that there is a waterfall separating heaven and earth? What about space and the other planets God doesn’t even mention those in a vague way? God formed man out of dust from the ground and breathed in his face the breath of life and man became a living soul.
You know at least Allah says we were made from water which is more accurate than this? Science has proven that we are made up of 6 elements Oxygen Carbon Nitrogen Calcium and Phorsopus. Only about 0.85% is composed of another five elements: potassium, sulfur, sodium, chlorine, and magnesium. All 11 are necessary for life. The remaining elements are trace elements, of which more than a dozen are thought on the basis of good evidence to be necessary for life.[1] All of the mass of the trace elements put together (less than 10 grams for a human body) do not add up to the body mass of magnesium, the least common of the 11 non-trace elements.
Yes you could argue that you could mix logic and spirituality but you can say that about any religion as well In the Quran it says seemen begins from the backbone and goes down to the ribs that’s clearly illogical but do I defend it saying I can’t mix logic and spirituality? What about Greek Mythology they had Zeus give birth to a full grown warrior woman by eating her mother when they were shapeshifting and trapping the mother who later gave birth to her in his head? I can’t say that logically either.
The Garden of Eden
Also in the middle of the Garden were the tree of life and learning the knowledge of good and evil. Then how were Adam and Eve supposed to know what they were doing is wrong?
You may eat food from every tree in the garden: but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you may not eat: for in whatever day you eat from it you shall die by death.”
Once again how is Adam supposed to know what’s good and evil? Not only is he in ‘’perfect paradise’’ that shelters him, he doesn't even possess the basic knowledge of a child of right and wrong most kids usually do? How does Adam know what death is?
Numbers 23:19 — English Standard Version (ESV) 19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
Titus 1:2 New International Version 2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,
2 Timothy 2:13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.
These are one of the few verses saying God doesn’t lie yet he tells Adam he will die from death(God of the Bible lacks basic grammar skills) that itself is a lie since we know what happens later. In his 10 commandments for kids to adults he says lying is a sin he also repeatedly mentions hypocrisy as a sin yet he himself not even 5 minutes into the Bible has proved guilty of this. So how do I trust anything that comes out of his mouth and that’s even if I do believe he is not a deity?
Now the serpent was more cunning than all the wild animals the lord God made on earth.
Isn’t the serpent Satan supposed to be an angel? It even said he was cast out of heaven because he tried to overthrow God by sitting in his throne while God the omnipresent(can do anything including seeing into the future and being everywhere) went away to do something. Anyway, how is Satan supposed to be smarter than the other animals? Also it’s been awhile since I studied animals as a hobby but snakes aren’t that smart on the side of animals pigs and elephants and many others are smarter. Where did Satan even learn human speech?
Then they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the Garden that afternoon and Adam and his wife hid themselves within the tree in the middle of the garden from the presence of the Lord God. So the lord God called Adam and said to him. ‘’Adam, where are you”. He replied, I heard your voice as you were walking in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.’’ Thus he said, ‘’Who said you were naked? Have you eaten from the one tree which I commanded you not eat? Then Adam said. The woman you gave me, gave me of the tree, and I ate.’ Then God punished them for eating the apple Eve with childbirth and Adam with having to get a job.
Like I said a few times, how is Adam/Eve supposed to know right from wrong if they hadn’t eaten the fruit of knowledge and he left a manipulative monster or angel who tried to recently overthrow him? How is that grounds for punishing everyone else based on something someone else did? It just seems like a cheap way for the Christian God to demonize gaining knowledge or morals outside of him without an actual argument for why? The fact he does this in the first official story is a red flag on its own. Also how is God surprised he knows their entire story before they were even made? How is he confused about what Satan would do? Also this is also another lie and contradiction he told Adam he would die from death and I assume Adam passed that onto Eve and he let Satan off with little to nothing because from the few we see of him he could go anywhere he pleases while Adam and Eve carter to him for the rest of their lives in hopes that he doesn’t punish them even worse. How is he forgiving but at the same time he punishes Adam and Eve immediately for a decision they couldn’t make on their own instead of explaining how it’s wrong and still giving them another chance?
