2024.05.15 16:37 uwutwutmate Awd for hiking

Hi all! I am new to Vancouver, and looking to buy a car. We are planning to stay here for a while, and would like to get a car that can serve us in our hiking adventures (beside the daily work commute).
We were looking for the more 'city' type of awd cars, like a Ford escape or Mitsubishi outlander. Would you say that having a car like that is a benefit, or will we still struggle a lot without a real 4x4?

I’ve been building model cars for almost a full year now and this one I can say I’m truly proud of. So much so I even decided to build a terrain diorama to house the Delica. This took about a full month to do but that was because I lost motivation halfway through after a pretty bad mess up. Nonetheless I’m super hyped about how this turned out!
Let me know what you guys think!

What do you think?
Hey All, just joined up here because I’m thinking of buying my first kei truck. I found a guy near me that’s selling 2 Mitsubishi Minicabs for a good price and I was thinking about going for it. My concern is that the motor in the clean body is bad, so I would have to swap the motor from the rusty one to get a working truck. Do you guys know how difficult this swap would be? The trucks are pretty much the same, just a few years apart in age. They are both 4x4, but the rusty one has a locker up front, so Id like to swap that axle over as well if possible. Guy is asking $2k flat for both, what do you guys think? Should I go for it? I have experience with engine/transmission removal and replacement in Toyota and VW cars/trucks, but I’m by no means a pro. Do you think I can get this done, or wait for something more put together? Thanks in advance, C

Help with buying
Hi guys, going to get this car inspected this week, any advice on what to look out for. Few mods on here so obviously used for off-roading, not sure if this should put me off or not as I am wanting to use it as a daily and off-road.
It’s at a dealership at the moment, what would be a good price to pick it up at?
Thanks

2024.05.04 21:02 BigCatsStudio Used RX350, QX50/55, or new luxury Chinese

Hi, I am looking for a new or fairly new 4x4 suv, the main features are spacious, has good performance, really good build quality, not too dull to drive, good reliability, and budget around 15000 OMR. My current car is VW touareg 2012 3.6 and I really love it, but it is time to renew.
So far my list of targets are based on specs and reviews not tested any of them yet: - used RX350 2021 - used QX55/QX50 2022 - new Hongqi HS5 2024 - new HAVAL H6 2024
Other options like Honda Crv, Toyota rav4, and Mitsubishis have really underpowered powertrains.
Your thoughts please.

2024.04.30 14:21 atiustirawa Which 4x4 is easiest (and cheapest) to DIY maintain?

So I'm looking for a used 4x4 that I can build into an overlanding/campig rig without breaking the budget, which is, admittedly, tight. I plan to do the maintenance myself, so I dont spend too much money on shops and also it's fun working on the cars. My max. for the vehicle alone is about €10k (so that brings the vehicles in my range to about 200k km and I'm aware I'll need some work and money to baseline them) and I live in central europe.
I dont' plan to do too much modifications in the near future as extreme offroading and rock crawling is not really the intended purpose, more like overlanding. A comfortable long-distance ride is also desired, since I want to go on vacation with them. Also, Diesel, no petrol. I don't need it as a daily since I don't have to commute every day.
Which spare parts are the cheapest? Which vehicle ist the easiest to work on?
So far, the vehicles that fit the budget are: - Land Rover Disco 3 /LR3 (preferrably with coil-spring conversion so I dont have to deal with the air suspension) - Mitsubishi Pajero v60/v61 - Nissan Patrol y61 - Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J9 - Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J12 - maybe even a Land Cruiser 100 ( but for that price only with a very high mileage, so I don't think that would be very smart)
Is there a vehicle that you would recommend over the others from your experience?

2024.04.30 09:03 TASTYPIEROGI7756 Is there a way to force a modern 4WD to shift modes with a failed ABS sensor?

I have a 2022 Mitsubishi Triton. It has the Super Select 2 4WD system which has 2H, 4H (AWD), 4Hlc (true locked differential 4x4) and 4Llc (low range, locked diff 4x4).
Recently I had the misfortune of having a piece of debris strike the cable of my rear left ABS wheel speed sensor with enough force to snap the wire internally and render it inoperable.
This happened whilst I was offroad, and it stopped ABS, ASC and 4WD mode shifting from working. Fortunately I was only in 4H when it happened, which is effectively AWD in a Triton. So I was able to get it home and get it fixed.
It got me thinking though, what the hell would you do if this happened when you were in true 4x4 with the differential locked? You wouldn't be able to drive on a paved road without destroying the transmission. Is there a way to force the computer to allow a 4WD mode shift in these circumstances?
Or are you just destined for the back of a tow truck?

Haven’t found a Pajero with this low Ks for a while. Would the age put you off? Got around 15k, can get a newer one around 08-10 but the ks are in the high 300 thousands. Thanks

2024.04.22 22:44 Tyther Worth rebuilt motor?

I have a 95 Mitsubishi Minicab U42T with a 3 speed automatic 4x4, A/C, and power steering. I bought it with the motor being questionable and I have pretty much determined that the rings are shot. I called G&R imports and they want $2153 for a long block. I am not afraid of doing the work, I am afraid of is the transmission. The guy at G&R said the autos were not reliable and I am worried I will dump a bunch of money into the motor, just for the transmission to be shot.

My other option is I have another 94 Mitsubishi Minicab U42T that has a decent motor with a 5 speed manual and 4x4. Would I just be better off swapping the motor out of my 94 into my 95?

Both trucks are in decent condition. It would be a shame for either of them just to be scavenged for parts.

2024.04.22 19:21 h3r0667_01 Servicio post venta de agencias de vehículos nuevos en CR

Hola!

2024.04.18 07:46 germany_nooooo What's best for a Lap of Australia, then to become a daily driver?

Hi everyone! Been in this sub for a while and let me say thanks in advance for all the good advice that's provided here.
I will be doing a lap of Australia, and then after I want to keep the car as my daily driveweekend camping escape pod. In the lap I will be taking off road routes but nothing too crazy, mainly some easy to intermediate tracks, water crossings.
I've got about $35k to spend, and currently torn between either a Pajero Sport or a Pajero:

Or

Any advice between the two? Or any outside the box suggestions for that budget and constrains?

2024.04.17 11:29 finno2511 Advice on a 4x4 for a 18 year old

Hello, I am turing 18 soon and am looking into buying my first car, I love outdoors and want somthing that has some 4x4 capabilities driving on beaches or light-moderate 4x4 tracks. I have had a look at Subaru's but have heard they are very expensive to repair. Also had a look at nissian 4x4 x trails but don't know how good they would go off road. I have been recomended pajeros allot as a cheaper solution to land cruisers/patrols but they are just so expensive to fuel. I have been looking at mitsubishi challangers around 2010 which are alot cheaper than other similar 4x4 cars but have not heard to much about how good they actually are.
My budget is probably around 15,000-17,000
Any advice would be super helpful, thanks so much.

2024.04.15 09:55 Far_Ad_5866 Montero limited 2015

Hi, I come here to get some bias opinions. I’m planning to buy an SUV and I have reduced my options between a Mitsubishi Montero Limited 2015 (4x4) and a MB GLK 2015 4matic. I live in Rocky Point (which has potholes and beach) but the car would be used mostly to travel to the US or to better maintained highways in Mexico (I have another car to go to my job). I suffered a really bad car accident so I appreciate the safety. I understand that are different level vehicles but I would appreciate some feedback, there is a difference of around 500 dollars between my options.

I have no speedometer and the vehicle has code P0500 and the transmission mis shifts and gets stuck in 1st gear sometimes I pulled the output shaft sensor I believe to inspect it and see if there was any damage it wasn't physically damaged as far as I could tell but I have another I got from the junkyard there's numbers on the mechanical part of the sensor I assume are supposed to be used to spline the gear on the sensor to the output shaft in the transfer case but I was paying attention when I removed it and am trying to find out what position it is supposed to be in when installed I cannot find the information anywhere any help would be greatly appreciated.
