FEDS: CAPE COD HOSPITAL TO PAY $24.3 MILLION TO RESOLVE ALLEGATIONS THAT IT FAILED TO COMPLY WITH MEDICARE CARDIAC PROCEDURE RULES
BOSTON – [DOJ MEDIA STATEMENT] - Cape Cod Hospital has agreed to pay $24.3 million to resolve allegations that it knowingly submitted claims to Medicare for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures that failed to comply with Medicare rules specifying the way in which hospitals were required to evaluate patient suitability for the procedures.
Beginning in 2015, Cape Cod Hospital began offering TAVR procedures for patients suffering from aortic stenosis, a serious heart condition that restricts blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body. A TAVR procedure involves replacing a patient’s damaged heart valve with an artificial one. Medicare rules at the time required that, prior to performing a TAVR procedure, hospitals engage specified clinical personnel to conduct an independent examination of prospective patients to evaluate their suitability for TAVR; document the rationale for their clinical judgment; and make the rationale available to the medical team performing the TAVR procedure.
The settlement resolves allegations that from November 2015 through December 2022, Cape Cod Hospital knowingly submitted hundreds of claims to Medicare for TAVR procedures that did not comply with the applicable Medicare requirements. In some instances, not enough physicians examined a patient’s suitability for the procedure, while in other instances the physicians failed to document and share their clinical judgment with the medical team responsible for the TAVR procedure.
“Medicare permitted coverage for this newly developed cardiac procedure only under certain conditions, to ensure patient safety. Cape Cod Hospital ignored those rules and received millions of dollars from Medicare to which it was not entitled. This conduct persisted for years despite internal warnings,” said Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy for the District of Massachusetts. “This investigation and settlement ensure that patient safety is prioritized over a hospital’s bottom line.”
“Hospitals that participate in the Medicare program must abide by applicable coverage and reimbursement rules,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “The department will hold healthcare providers accountable when they knowingly fail to comply with Medicare reimbursement requirements.”
“Health care providers are expected to follow Medicare rules and bill properly,” said Roberto Coviello, Special Agent in Charge with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. “We are committed to pursuing allegations of False Claims Act violations as we work to protect the integrity of the taxpayer-funded Medicare program, and we encourage the public to come forward with information about such conduct.”
In connection with the settlement, Cape Cod Hospital has entered into a five-year Corporate Integrity Agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), which provides for an annual review of its paid Medicare claims by an Independent Review Organization.
Cape Cod Hospital received credit under the Department’s guidelines for taking disclosure, cooperation, and remediation into account in False Claims Act cases. Among other actions, Cape Cod Hospital voluntarily produced materials, identified the relevant medical records, admitted that it failed to adhere to the applicable Medicare requirements and implemented appropriate remedial measures.
The claims resolved by the resolution announced today include claims that were brought under the qui tam or whistleblower provisions of the False Claims Act. Under the Act, a private party can file an action on behalf of the United States and receive a portion of any recovery. As part of today’s resolution, the whistleblower will receive approximately $4.36 million.
The investigation and resolution of this matter illustrates the government’s emphasis on combating health care fraud. One of the most powerful tools in this effort is the False Claims Act. Tips and complaints from all sources about potential fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement, can be reported to HHS at 800-HHS-TIPS (800-447-8477).
Acting U.S. Attorney Levy; Principal Deputy AAG Boynton; and HHS-OIG SAC Coviello made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew A. Caffrey, III of the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Unit handled the matter along with Trial Attorney Kimya Saied of the Department of Justice’s Fraud Section.

New to subreddit. This is my offering to you all. Thrift find.
My girlfriend found this for me at the thrift, she said oooh pretty and gave it to me because I have recently shown an interest in starting to collect coins. Can’t believe it was just on the sales floor and not behind the counters. Needless to say what a way to start off the collection. For 20 dollars I got this. I opened it and loved it instantly. So did a couple other people who saw what was in the case. They followed me around the entire time hoping I would place it down and leave it

How to Book Travel with Costco

Booking travel with Costco is straightforward. Simply visit the Costco Travel website, log in with your membership credentials, and browse the available travel options. You can search for vacation packages, rental cars, cruises, and more. Once you find a deal that suits your needs, you can book directly through the website or by calling Costco Travel customer service.

Can You Apply for a Costco Travel Credit Card?

While Costco Travel doesn’t have its own credit card, the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi is an excellent option for Costco members. This card offers 3% cash back on travel and restaurant purchases, making it a great choice for those who frequently book travel through Costco.

Benefits of Using Costco Travel

Do You Save Money Using Costco Travel?

Costco Travel often provides significant savings compared to booking directly through airlines, hotels, or other travel agencies. By bundling services such as flights, hotels, and car rentals into one package, Costco can offer competitive rates. Executive members also earn a 2% reward on all non-taxable travel purchases, adding to the savings.

Exclusive Perks and Benefits

Costco Travel packages often include exclusive perks such as resort credits, free breakfast, and room upgrades. Additionally, some packages come with a Costco Shop Card, which can be used in-store or online at Costco.

Time Savings and Convenience

Booking travel through Costco is convenient and saves time. Instead of searching multiple websites for deals, members can find everything they need in one place. The Costco Travel website is user-friendly and provides detailed information about each package, including what's included and any special offers.

Costco Travel Vacation Packages

Are Costco Vacation Packages a Good Deal?

‍Costco vacation packages can offer excellent value, especially for destinations like Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Packages often include flights, accommodations, and other extras like resort credits or meal plans. It's always a good idea to compare the total cost of a Costco package with booking each component separately to ensure you're getting the best deal.

Can You Negotiate with Costco Travel?

While you can't negotiate prices with Costco Travel, you can take advantage of their price match policy. If you find a lower price for the same package within 30 days of booking, Costco will match the price. This ensures that you're always getting the best deal available.

Costco Travel Packages

Costco Travel packages typically include lodging and may also include airfare, airport transfers, and car rental, as well as activities—depending on the trip.

Pricing

Costco Travel's package bundling can save hundreds of dollars on your vacation. For example, an eight-night package in a deluxe villa at Palms at Wailea on Maui, including round flights from Tampa, Florida, and a full-size rental car, costs $5,594.15. The package also includes a $116 digital Costco Shop Card and resort fees such as damage protection and cleaning fees. However, there was a cancellation fee of $200. By booking the same stay and rental car separately, the cost is $5,561.90, making the Costco package competitively priced when you factor in the included extras and the digital shop card.

Perks and Savings

Executive members earn a 2% reward on all non-taxable travel purchases, adding to the savings. Some packages come with a Costco Shop Card, which can be used in-store or online at Costco. Additional perks often include resort credits, free breakfast, and room upgrades, providing added value for your booking.

Inclusive Resorts

Costco Travel offers packages to inclusive resorts, which are ideal for families and couples looking for a hassle-free vacation. These packages often include meals, drinks, and various activities, providing excellent value for money. Popular destinations for inclusive resort packages include Mexico’s Riviera Maya and the Caribbean islands.

Do Costco Travel Prices Go Down?

Costco Travel prices are generally competitive and often lower than booking directly with airlines or hotels. However, prices can fluctuate based on demand and availability. Costco also offers price adjustments if you find a lower price for the same package within 30 days of booking.

Kirkland Signature Travel Packages

‍Kirkland Signature, Costco’s private label brand, extends its reputation for quality and value to travel packages as well. Kirkland Signature travel packages are curated to offer exceptional experiences at competitive prices, often including exclusive perks that enhance your vacation.

What Are Kirkland Signature Travel Packages?

These packages can include a variety of destinations such as inclusive resorts, cruises, and theme park vacations. They often come with extras like resort credits, complimentary meals, and unique experiences exclusive to Costco members.‍

Benefits of Kirkland Signature Travel Packages

  1. Exclusive Perks: Kirkland Signature travel packages often include exclusive perks such as room upgrades, free breakfasts, and resort credits, enhancing the overall value of your trip.
  2. Competitive Pricing: These packages are priced competitively, leveraging Costco’s buying power to offer significant savings compared to booking each component separately.
  3. High-Quality Accommodations: The packages typically feature high-quality accommodations and services, ensuring a premium travel experience.

Examples of Kirkland Signature Travel Deals

Kirkland Signature deals might include a week-long stay at a luxury inclusive resort in the Caribbean with all meals and drinks included, plus a resort credit for spa services or activities. Another example could be a cruise package with an upgraded cabin, complimentary shore excursions, and a Costco Shop Card.
By choosing Kirkland Signature travel packages, Costco members can enjoy meticulously curated vacations that offer both value and luxury, making their travel experiences more memorable and cost-effective.

Costco Travel Car Rentals‍

Is Costco the Cheapest Way to Rent a Car?

Costco Travel often offers some of the lowest prices on rental cars. They work with top car rental companies like Alamo, Avis, Budget, and Enterprise. Benefits of booking through Costco Travel include additional driver fees waived and competitive pricing. However, it's always wise to compare prices with other rental car agencies to ensure you're getting the best deal.

Costco Travel Cruises

Why Book Cruises with Costco Travel?

Costco Travel works with 12 major cruise lines, including Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, and Royal Caribbean. Booking a cruise through Costco Travel can come with significant perks such as onboard credits, free upgrades, and Costco Shop Cards. Additionally, Executive members earn a 2% reward on non-taxable cruise costs.

Costco Travel Flights

Booking Flights with Costco Travel
Costco Travel does not sell standalone flights. Flights must be bundled with a lodging or travel package purchase. This approach can save time and reduce hassle, as you can book all travel needs in one place and receive one itinerary to keep track of everything.

How Costco Travel Compares to Other Booking Methods

Other Travel Websites

While Costco Travel can offer significant savings, it’s still a good idea to compare prices with other travel websites like Priceline, Expedia, and Orbitz. These sites may offer different airlines, hotels, rental car companies, and additional features not available through Costco Travel.
Before buying any travel online, make sure you use Kudos, a free browser extension and AI-powered wallet, to double your credit card rewards at over 15,000 participating stores like Trip.com.

‍Booking Directly with Travel Providers‍

Booking directly with airlines with the best airline cards, hotels, or rental car companies can sometimes provide benefits like loyalty program points and elite status benefits that may not be available when booking through third-party sites like Costco Travel. It’s essential to compare prices and benefits to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

Is Costco Travel Right for You?

Costco Travel offers a convenient and cost-effective way to book travel, with exclusive perks and benefits for members. Whether you're planning a family vacation, a romantic getaway, or a business trip, Costco Travel can help you save money and enjoy a hassle-free booking experience. By taking advantage of their travel packages, car rentals, and cruises, and using tools like Kudos to unlock your credit card rewards and benefits, you can maximize your savings and make the most of your travel budget.

2024.05.16 23:11 Weathers_Writing They call Silicon Valley the tech capitol of the world. They're wrong

I won't disclose its actual location, so if that's why you're here, sorry to disappoint. It's not time for that yet. However, I do think it's time to start getting the word out. I've noticed an increase in what I'll call "Antennas" lately, or people who can detect cross-planar phase shifts. Without getting into all the math (some of which I don't even know), this is basically a phenomenon which refers to entropy seeping into our universe from other realms or universes or whatever you want to call it. Simply put, people think our universe is a closed system to entropy, meaning that the disorder of any variable in our universe can only increase or decrease in direct proportion to other variables in that same system (the universe). Under this precept, we can establish rules like the Laws of Thermodynamics, and for most people, they're effective. But not for Antennas.
Put another way, if you throw a bunch of bouncy balls into a box, there are a number of different configurations that the balls could take on, with different speeds and magnitudes. You can calculate all of those if you have the right numbers. Now let's say you throw in another set of balls that you don't consider in your calculations of the initial set. Well, then you're not going to get an accurate picture of what's happening. Most people only see the first set and calculate based on that, but some people can see two, three, four or more sets.
You'll understand the concept better when I tell you the story, but I wanted to give you a primer on an important concept that will help you understand why this place, which I'll call "Area X", exists, and what the goals of the people who work there are.
Also note that I'm going to be using the alias "Trent" moving forward. Please refer to me as such in any direct messages.
***
Eighteen years ago I started working as an independent Home Inspector. I dropped out of community college after my first semester (not because I didn't find some of the subjects interesting, but because deference to a man or woman has never been my style) and started working some odd jobs. I did construction work for a couple years, then plumbing. I even drove a garbage truck for six months. I've always found pleasure in using my hands, and getting dirty was never a problem for me. Still, having a boss really dragged ass, so I spent my free time working on creating my own business. It took a few years and lots of savings, but I finally managed to get basic set of Home Inspection equipment: Tyvek coveralls, a cheap half-face respirator, voltage & AFCI/GFCI testers, CO2 and radon monitors, an IR camera, and telescoping mirrors in addition to the boots, safety glasses, electric gloves, ladder, and toolkits I already had on hand.
My buddy at the time was in the business, but he was moving off to the coast, so he helped me get set up and even introduced me to some of his clients. Of course, by that time I had already gotten my State license, but I still was a bit apprehensive to work with insurance agencies. I thought I could make a living working independently, inspecting for mold or sizing up a house for a prospective buyer. Eventually, though, I realized I should probably take every job available to me.
Easing into the business went about as well as it could have. The clients my friend referred to me were very satisfied with my work, and I was able to retain them. Then, in order to increase my reach, I hired someone on Fiverr to build a website for my company which led to a marked increase in traffic and conversions. About six months through, I began to get on a first-name basis with the boys and girls down down at Allstate and Progressive, and they fed me some of the bigger cases. In fact, I got so booked by year's end that I had to hire someone to help manage my schedule and the Excel spreadsheet with all my finances. I capped off a successful year with a 5-star Google rating and a trip to Ireland to visit some family and friends and get piss drunk. When I got back, it was the grindstone all over again, until the summer when I discovered… well, you'll see.
First off, I want to say that I was never one to believe in the paranormal. I grew up watching the movies and hearing the ghost stories round the campfire like every other kid, but it never struck a chord with me. If I can't touch it or see it or hear it, does it really exist? Probably not. So don't go thinking this was a scared man seeing his own shadow. That being said, I had this sense that something was off about this house when I parked along the curb and looked through a large window, perhaps two times the size of my van, to a dingy, dark foyer.
The entire neighborhood was stacked with upper-middle class domiciles, though it seemed like only two thirds of them were occupied, mostly by professionals who commuted to the City every weekday, and the rest were empty. As a man who understands real estate, to say this was strange would be an understatement. Still, I had no problem appraising the mini-mansion for a couple of newlyweds looking to enter the community. I did some research on the property ahead of time, and it seems that it was owned by a couple of old timers who had gone off the grid some time ago. The water and electric bill were both unpaid dating back to 2004 (it was June of '06 now). The bank had repo'd the house (which only had about 100k left on it) and held it for a year and a half before putting it back on the market. I tried to find out more about the old couple who vanished, but there was nothing in the news.
I stepped out of the van in my coveralls and grabbed my suitcase which had my mask, gloves, and eye protection in it. I liked to do a preliminary survey first, running an eye test on the exterior then interior before bringing out the big guns (that way I could identify the areas where I think there could be problems instead of running a metal detector over the whole damn ocean seaboard). I was about to do just that when the window caught my eye again. It felt uncharacteristic of me to be so occupied with this window, but I detoured to the front porch and peeked inside anyway.
Most of the furniture had already been moved out, meaning all that was left was a single three-seater couch, a couple candlesticks on the fireplace mantle, a pristine chandelier overtop a dining room table, and the kitchenware: an oven, gas stovetop, marble countertops, and an island. I could see into the living room very clearly with the afternoon light, but the dining room was dim enough that there were a few structures I couldn't quite make out in the distance. One of them appeared to be some kind of china cabinet or bookshelf—I figured it was the former considering where it was located. The other shadow looked kind of like a grandfather clock. Or at least that's what I thought until it moved.
When I say it "moved", I don't mean to say that it picked up and walked away. If you're not familiar with the Necker Cube, I suggest you search it up, because that kind of illusion is the best way to describe what I saw. At first I was seeing the grandfather clock in a certain way—pushed into the corner of the room—and the next second my vision "corrected" and it was maybe five feet to the left of its former position. I shook my head and looked again and saw the grandfather clock in its second orientation, standing in the center of the room against the wall. I figured I was just seeing things, but even so I spent a little extra time dawdling around the Egress window, taking notes, and delaying the interior inspection.
When I finally grew a pair and went inside, I walked straight to the dining room. Sure enough, the grandfather clock was stowed away in the corner of the room. I spent a couple minutes watching it with my pencil and travel notebook out. I'm the kind of guy that likes to collect hard data when the chips are down. Unfortunately, the clock apparently already had enough fun and was content with sweating me. Oh, well.
I fitted my pencil behind my ear and pocketed my travel notebook, then flipped the rest of the first floor lights on and completed my prelim. I concluded that everything was pretty standard. If anything, the house was in better shape than I'd expect considering it presumably hasn't been lived in for a couple years. I say "presumably" because one can never count out squatters, even during those times. Mainly I was expecting more dust build up and cobwebs than there were. Perhaps someone from the department had come by recently. It's unlikely, but possible.
I did the same check upstairs and it came back mostly clean. There was a bit of staining near the attic I wanted to check for mold. Based on its color, it was probably just a minor case of Aspergillus, but better safe than sorry. Then I got to the basement, and, well, let's just count out the idea of anyone dropping by. I don't know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't what I found.
The first thing that caught my eye was the long, slender body of a birch tree lying pale and dead across a large portion of the even larger unfinished basement's cement flooring. I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't dreaming, but, yep, there it was. Its crown was sealed up in the wall with only its trunk hanging out, which made me think of those medieval pillory devices which locked up people's heads and arms. Then confetti-scattered around the tree and all over the basement floor was a minefield of broken glass and ceramic tangled up with a set of random objects. And when I say random, I mean random. There was an unfurled Somali flag (the blue one with a single star in the center), some packaged drinks and condiments branded with all sorts of different languages (I could only make out Gaelic and Chinese or Japanese, I couldn't quite tell), a broken dome-shaped security camera, an otoscope (the thing the doc uses to check your ears), Hot Wheels cars (okay that one isn't so strange), and the list goes on.
At that moment, I wasn't freaked out or disgusted. I was more or less just confused. I started walking through the rubble, trying to avoid the sharp fragments but pretty confident that my steel toed boots would crush most the pieces anyway, when I heard a clink just up ahead. I was able to spot the coin in time, just before it jingled to a halt atop an old Life magazine. I picked it up and noted right away its oval shape and bronze color—clearly not American made. I tried reading it, but not only was the language not English, it appeared to be so old that most of the lettering had been filed down. I looked up at the ceiling to see if it dropped from a shelf, but there was nothing that could have been holding the coin. I considered for a moment, looking around at the other junk, and had the crazy idea that maybe all this stuff just appeared here. I popped the coin in my pocket and headed back to the van when I stopped by the tree and realized something. It wasn't a birch tree—it was a palm tree. I just didn't realize because of how ashy and decayed the bark was.
Now at this point you might think I've been acting a little nonchalant for such a strange occurrence, and I don't blame you, but if you're gonna stick around with me that's just something you're gonna have to get used to. I guess I was just born with a screw loose, but I really don't scare easily, and I tend to look at everything pragmatically. If you dig deep enough, you'll always find another plausible explanation. That being said, I do want to get to the part about Area X, so let me give you the rundown on what I learned about this basement.
I ended up trekking back to the van and picking up my gear. I was no longer running the routine inspection, obviously, but I figured I might as well throw 30 thousand dollars of scanning equipment at whatever the fuck anamoly existed in that basement. Most of it came back negative. There was a bit higher-than-usual EM interference as picked up on the voltmeters, but nothing that screamed danger close. Still, it was enough for me to set up my volt testers and IR camera while muddling through the rest of the junk. I won't bore you with another list of items, but I did find one thing of value: a diamond necklace. And not just any diamond necklace, it was one of those Queen-wearing, multi-row, big-jeweled necklaces like out of some Historical Fiction movie from the thirties. I almost didn't pocket it because I'm used to expensive items being owned by someone… someone who might want it back. But I figured if there was ever a place the finder's keeper's rule applied, it was probably in this Quantum graveyard.
7 O'clock rolled around and I hadn't eaten. I'm a pretty bulky guy, carrying my share of both muscle and fat, and most people think that means I need to eat a ton but that's really not the case. Mostly I just get dehydrated easily, especially in the summer. That said, I was bordering on famished territory and considered heading out for a bite when I heard another sound. The first thing I did was check my scanners, and sure enough the voltage needle was fully spun to the right side of the dial. EM interference. Then I went to see what had dropped. I was able to pick the object out pretty quickly since I had spent the last 6 hours staring at the mosaic of a basement floor. It was a silver briefcase, like one of those out of a crime novel, and it was cracked open.
I had this sense then that I was standing at a precipice, and if I opened the briefcase and looked inside, I wouldn't be able to stop whatever would come afterwards. Part of me deep down knew that I was just that type of guy that had to know, and maybe this was my Hamlet moment where it would be a trait gone a step too far. But then again I didn't really believe in any of that sentimental bullshit, so I opened the briefcase.
The gun surprised me a little, but not as much as the piece of paper laid atop a case file reading in large black font, "FIND ME". I expected the envelope to have some missing person file in it, but instead there were all these schematics and blueprints for some kind of device. Whatever it was, it was pretty massive. Some of the lengths were hundreds of meters long. And what's more strange is based on the blueprint's locale, it appeared to be underground. I looked back through the pages a couple times, then checked the note—nothing strange there. The gun appeared to be a simple glock. I was no gun expert, but I had been to the range pretty regularly with my construction buddies, so I got used to the feel of a pistol and rifle and some of the different names; however, I realized pretty quickly it wasn't your standard glock when I couldn't find mag-release. That's when I noticed how light the gun felt. I tried to chamber a round, but again, there was no hammer. What the hell kind of gun was this?
I ended up throwing everything back in the briefcase, including the necklace, coin, and a few Koozies I found that were branded with one of my favorite sports teams (never let an opportunity go to waste). I put up all my shit back in the van and spun over to a local burger joint, got my fill, and went home. I made sure to draft an email to the prospective buyers, telling them the house had several patches of black mold and a bit of a rat problem before drifting off to sleep. Although I really didn't do much of that.
When I woke up, I took a cold shower and downed a can of Reign, then commuted to my gym and got a lift and some sauna time in before making the trip back to the house. I brought some extra supplies with me for some experiments I cooked up while not sleeping the previous night.
First, I had two camcorders set up on a couple tripods in either corner of the basement. I wanted clear footage of these mystery objects spawning in. Then I set up a voltmeter in a similar fashion, but I had a wire extending out of it on a circuit which fed to an alarm that would blare when the reading was over 250 volts. Upstairs, I rearranged some of the furniture so that the small number of tables, chairs, clock, cabinets, and other little pillows or vases I could find were scattered across the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Then I pulled up a lawn chair to the front porch window and waited.
I didn't have to wait long though. In about a minute, I started to notice some of the objects moving. It was strange. When a few of them would shift simultaneously, it was like looking at a holographic card that would change shape depending on where your eyes were in relation to the image. Every time I saw a shift, I felt an awkward feeling in my eyes. They went blurry for a fraction of a second, then there was a twinge of pain, as if my brain couldn't handle the contradictory stimulus. It didn't get more crazy than that though—until the alarm went off.
I had cracked open the small rectangular window in the basement to the side of the house so I would hear it. It took four hours and several strange stares from passersby walking their dogs before it rang, so I was a bit lost in my thoughts, but when I heard the beep I perked up fast. It lasted for maybe 5 seconds total, but what I saw was truly miraculous. The best way I can describe it is a pool of silver or gray or translucent light emerging in the foreground between me and the objects in the different rooms. A series of twisting tentacles sprouted from the gray octopus-like head and spun in a way that reminded me of that little kids ride at the amusement parks. Then the objects started to "heat up" is the way I describe it. Their position became relative, meaning they were here one second, there another, then they popped out of existence entirely. Suddenly the rooms were all empty, then they were full of things I had never seen before. Then five seconds passed and the octopus vanished and it was back to the same old objects in their usual places.
It took a few minutes to process what I saw, and even then I wasn't sure I really saw it. I went inside and looked around at my distribution of the house's furnishings. They were all there, intact. Then I went downstairs to check the cams. I rewinded a couple minutes and played it back, but there was no flying object to be found. Instead, there was some gray static that lasted half a second and then the object, a kid's treasure chest toy, was there on the ground. But you want to know the really strange part? I rewinded the tape again, and when I watched the footage back, the treasure chest was always there.
I later came to understand that these poppings in-and-out of our reality are only conceivable to a conscious mind that can track the interference patterns—not rote computational instruments. In fact, even most people can't do it (although everyone has at least a slight awareness of it, even if only subconsciously). Plus, locations like the basement of this house are very rare and kept under tight lock. That became obvious to me two days later when, after my normal morning routine, I pulled up to a driveway and curbside filled with unmarked government vehicles. Either bravely or stupidly, I pulled up to a few officers (they were wearing suits in 85 degree weather, so I assumed…) who were idling by the large fence of crime scene tape and asked them what the score was.
"There was a crime," said the short man with a unibrow.
"Oh, is that right? Damn shame. Someone break in? I have a niece who lives nearby, so…"
The man looked at his two compatriots, both of whom were wearing sunglasses and a "get this civilian fuck out of here" expressions. "Oh, yeah," he started in a reassuring tone that was so condescending it would have annoyed anyone except me, "we found a body. We think it was a homicide. Best to keep your kids away from here for a while."
I thumbed the stubble on my chin, my other hand outstretched on the wheel, and considered moving on, but my mouth had other ideas. "That right? But uh, isn't this house vacant? I mean, I don't remember no one living in it."
The short man, now tall with temper, said, "Yeah, some squatters. We think there was a dispute over some drug money. Nothing for you to worry about though, we got it under control. Now if you wouldn't mind moving along, we have a lot of work to do."
Oh, I'm sure you do, I thought, but only said, "Of course, sir, sorry for keeping you from your job." Then I rolled up the window and cruised on, keeping my eyes on the house which slowly diminished in the side-view mirror.
Luckily I had been smart enough to break down my camp and lug home all my equipment each night, so I didn't leave anything incriminating. I didn't move the furniture back, so maybe that would come back to haunt me, but considering the kind of shit going down in that house, I didn't think they would notice.
For any of you wondering about the conclusion of the house story, I went back a couple weeks later after the suits had left and the tape was taken down and confirmed that not only was the basement entirely cleaned out, but it was no longer exhibiting any strange properties. I looked for a story related to the house, maybe a made up murder of some kind, but there was nothing. That bastard lied to me and didn't even bother to cover his story up.
Now, in the aftermath of an event such as this, I really only had one of two options. I could forget it, move on, continue living life. The necklace was surely worth a fortune. I could sell it and have enough to retire, or at least hire enough people and expand my business large enough to retire within ten or so years. Or I could take all that money and invest it in my own PI business with only a single objective: finding out what those people knew, and why they were hiding it.
I think you know me well enough by now to guess which line of reasoning appealed more to me.
***
For the sake of brevity, I'm going to omit most of my encounters along the journey to discovering Area X. There's a lot to tell, and if it appeals to you perhaps I'd be willing to share at a later date, but for now I want to get this part of the story, the more proximal part, out in the open.
Three years ago, I discovered the source of what I'll call "The Receiver". This is the device that was schematized in the documents that I found in the briefcase. What it does is a complex answer, and how it does it is pretty much all speculation, but here's what I've been able to find out: this universe we live in is a node in a network of many other spaces. These spaces exist in higher dimensions that we cannot directly perceive, but using a conceivable analogy, just think about a flower with petals. The petals are these other dimensions which bleed into our world, which is at the center. However, it's not that pretty. We see the physical world through the lens of spacetime: sizes, speeds, etc. These other dimensions don't necessarily have space or time. In fact, what actually exists there, I couldn't say. The only data I have on them is from two sources: correspondence information and server data from the secret agency (which I'll call "the Organization") that keeps this under wraps, and first-hand experience with realms from these other entities, either directly (I experience it) or through the eyes of someone else with the same or greater abilities than I possess.
I referred to these people with abilities earlier as "Antennas", and I will continue to use the term. Antennas really come in three flavors, marked by the strength of their ability: weak Antennas, like me, are able to observe spontaneous interactions between our universe and other dimensions (phase shifts) when there is a strong force of collision like existed in the basement; moderate Antennas may see phase shifts occur at any point, and they usually are able to retain memories from across the different transformations; strong Antennas, and I don't know if they exist yet, but they are able to consciously interact with these other realms and cause phase shifts to occur.
I mentioned that moderate Antennas are able to retain memories from before and after a phase shift. Technically, all Antennas have this ability, but it's about degree. I can recall only very specific instances and without much detail. Moderates are usually able to pick out much more nuanced minutiae. At the lower end of moderate scale, most of those details fade or get fuzzy over time, but for the very strong Antennas, they hold onto almost everything. One other property that scales with strength is interaction with other conscious entities. Only a small percentage of moderates are able to do this. What's interesting is that these entities can possess (yes, like ghosts) people who aren't even antennas, but no one is aware of such possession at this deep of a level. I have several companions now, and only two have had interactions with these otherworldly beings. Not all of them are malevolent, some of them are whimsical or kind, but there are a fair share of demons out there.
Getting back to the point, Area X started as a government funded project in the 70's. At that time, they were focused on a few subjects: Artificial Intelligence, DNA sequencing, and psychedelics. Yes, they were part of the infamous LSD experiments. But they looked at these subjects through a common lens—there was something that the burgeoning tech industry, fueled by the advent of a commercial computer market, was missing. As the tech giants rose in the early 2000's and began to collect mass amounts of data, this other agency was decades ahead in a different metric, although it was completely (and still is) hidden from the public. Their efforts to understand psychedelic experiences led to a formalized method of understanding interactions between multiple realities. They built certain scanning equipment to detect anomalies like the one I found in the basement; although their tools were much more sophisticated and didn't utilize voltage readings. Then they ran tests in these areas. One area in particular is a hot-bed of phase shift interactions. That's where Area X is located (and the Receiver).
The Receiver is a giant electromagnetic orb that has trapped the kind of multi-dimensional energy that causes the phase shifts; since the Organization seized control of the lab, it's effectively become a map of the Earth in relation to these other worlds. For the past twenty or so years, the Organization has been studying this map, using the data big Tech companies have collected to essentially develop a Rosetta Stone for interpreting the meaning of the fluctuations in their scanning equipment. Recently, the public, though going the long way round, was actually pretty close to a breakthrough in this same department until recently when ultra-powerful LLMs surfaced, and the whole world began going down what I'd argue is the wrong rabbit hole of language processing. But I digress.
Area X is essentially a private military base built for defending the most impactful piece of technology ever invented. With the Receiver, the Organization now has the power to essentially predict any and all future outcomes, the only thing holding them back is the limitations of their own scanning equipment which will get better with time. To put it into perspective, the Organization has access to a kind of data allocation tool which in one day can produce over ten thousand times that the Big Data companies combined would be able to filter through in the next decade. You might think, then, that the problem is merely asymmetric power, and that is certainly a concern, but it isn't the main concern. The main issue is that this organization is actively recruiting (and kidnapping) Antennas from around the world in an effort to find or make one of them into a strong Antenna. In other words, they want a subject who is able not only to see the future, but to manipulate it at will.
balance to the world. I've been working on amassing resources, capital, and building my own team, and now I'm ready. You might ask why I'm posting this here. Wouldn't it be better to keep all this secret? Well, yes, it would be. But that's the problem. Nothing is secret anymore. They know about me and the others, and if I don't make a move, they will. In a way, this is a letter directly to the organization that I know, and I'm coming.
In a different way, I wanted to release this information to the public. There are lots of people out there waking up and realizing that the world they experience is not the one others experience. If you think you might be an Antenna, don't be afraid—you have a special gift that can be controlled. If you want more details on how to control it, or if you're interested in my mission, don't be afraid to reach out. This hasn't always been my life's work, but it is now.
At least until I die.

2024.05.16 23:10 Weathers_Writing They call Silicon Valley the tech capitol of the world.

First time buying
Hi all. I recently started lurking on this sub as well as taking an interest on my own when it comes to coins. I really liked Morgan Dollars after finding them and decided to make a drunken purchase. I am not so worried I over paid for the coin but can someone also let me know exactly what the 1902 O S$1 means? That should mean it was minted in New Orleans to my understanding but what is the S for? Thanks in advance!
I paid $114 after tax.

2024.05.16 20:55 Slauter19 Credit card fraud when should I get a lawyer and will I need a lawyer?

For the past year I have been dealing with a my credit cards being used and payments being reversed by my ex many of the charges I did not authorize.
When I filed a fraud claim under discover the individual name has come up in their investigation. So they are now in need of a police report. But I’m scared this may blow back on me given our history. And some text messages he may have with me confirming “saying ok u can buy this” “but their are also messages of us agreeing that he will pay the bills and that he’s responsible for what he buys” so I’m scared the police will say I will be responsible for the 6000+ dollar balance.
When I file a police report and the police and banks do their investigation will there be a court date where I have to appear to a judge and in that case would it be best that I get a lawyer to avoid even being in the presence of this ex
What would be a likely outcome?

2024.05.16 19:52 Weary_Neighborhood Scammed by a dryer vent cleaner?

A few days ago I noticed that our dryer smelled like it was burning while drying clothes. I immediately turned it off and unplugged and my fiancé said he would schedule an appointment with a duct cleaning company. I guess “Click 2 duct cleaning” (company name) popped up immediately when he googled and they advertised a $69/full dryer vent clean.
The technician arrived today (I was not home) and my fiancé said that the $69 quickly turned into $769 for a vent cleaning because it was “the worst he’s seen in a long time” and “was very clogged” and “needed to get on the roof to see how it was being ventilated” - we live in a single story home. Then the technician claimed he could give a military discount (even though we’re not in the military) and a 10% discount for paying through Zelle. He “got the price down” to $630.
We just moved into this home about 6 months ago, and we were made aware that the previous owners had the vents professionally cleaned not too long ago, so I did not believe what he was being told but I was not home to stop it from happening.
After doing my own research it seems like it should not cost any more than a few hundred dollars tops for a simple dryer vent cleaning.
The job is already done and the man has already left (I don’t know his name) but I am furious that my fiancé even thought that was a reasonable amount to pay.
Is there anyway to get money back now or file a report against this company?
DO NOT EVER HIRE CLICK 2 AIR DUCT CLEANING (their website lists that they are located across the U.S.)

2024.05.16 17:04 silverlakes123 SEAT one of the most solid projects out there and will be one of the biggest on Solana and here’s why

One thing I’ve noticed about all these communities on Reddit is that every meme coin is the next “10, 100, 1000X” coin but none of them give you a reason as to why. The only thing that’s ever said is “great community, based dev, funny memes” and then you look at the chart and they are all rug pulls (with the exception of maybe 2 or 3)
With that being said, here are the reasons why SEAT will be one of the best projects out there and everything we’ve accomplished in a months time. We’re a group of traders that came from the OTC markets and know what it takes to send a project to the moon.
Our accomplishments thus far with proof of everything:

So, with all this being said, if you are looking for a legitimate project where you don’t have to worry about rug pulls this is the one for you. We are working 24/7 to make this a life changing project not just for us but for others through our donations. SEAT one of the most solid projects out there and will be one of the biggest on Solana and here’s why
  • We donated $16,000 to Operation Underground Railroad (Sound of Freedom movie creators) they gave us a shoutout on their Twitter multiple times. We will be making community donations to The National Center For Missing and Exploited Children everytime our market cap doubles to help the fight against human trafficking.
    • We have been listed on Jupiters “strict list”
    • We are listed on Phantom Wallet so it’s easier to buy our project for people new to meme coins
    • We have our first merch drop live on the website and all proceeds will go to the burning of tokens and the dev matches it to limit the supply of tokens even further. He post a video of him doing it in real time which will be attached to this. https://seatmerch.com/
Video proof of token burning: https://x.com/crishensan/status/1789107909097640282?s=46&t=2Smk81RO_zugIs172_6dhw
  • We got listed on https://gerygoonsler.com yesterday
  • We are working on our Coingecko application now to get listed on their exchange
  • We’ve been verified on Birdeye Exchange
  • The token supply is fully diluted and the LP is burned meaning no new coins can ever be minted/created. We currently have 996mil supply which will continue dropping with each merch drop because as posted above all proceeds go to burning the token supply with video proof.
  • The dev is a full time trader who recently did an in person interview to explain our project and our cause
Interview: https://www.youtube.com/live/NgxqYqkuzAI?si=uRuwzGDD9pGmmxUU
So, with all this being said, if you are looking for a legitimate project where you don’t have to worry about rug pulls this is the one for you. We are working 24/7 to make this a life changing project not just for us but for others through our donations. Give us a look and do some research and I can assure you that you will love what you see.

Years ago, in the early days of online chat, I found myself caught up in a web of deception. This happened many moons ago, every day at 8 a.m. Manila time, which was 8 p.m. Eastern Time, I would wait until Russell went online. He was from New York and a fireman.
And he always did, right on the dot.
There were no apps then, all we had was Yahoo Messenger.
I’m not proud of what I did — it just happened. It was supposed to be a one-time chat, but instead, it went on for months, until I had to come clean and tell him the truth: that I wasn’t the woman in the photo I sent him.
I didn’t even know there was a word for it back then — catfishing.
Of course, when the truth was out, and when I never heard from him again, even if there was never money involved, which means I didn’t defraud him in exchange for sex work — I remember not only feeling hurt for a long time.
I felt awful for what I did — I lied and pretended to be someone else.

OnlyFans Chatter

The Truth About OnlyFans
These days catfishing has taken a new direction, and it is pervasive in the world of online sex work, with the popularity of OnlyFans it gave birth to an army of impersonators known as “chatters.”
It isn't easy to make money online, especially from writing. Anyone who promises you can make X amount if you buy their writing course is selling you not only lies but snake oil, and there’s a word for it — scam.
But I’m not here to preach, I’m here to understand.
I was surprised that my story on sugar dating, and sex work started to have readers. Are people interested in what goes on behind sugar dating apps, with sugar daddies, or mommies? Or is it because sex work, while it remains taboo, is a topic we all like to explore behind the dark walls of our privacy?
Online sex work had exploded.
We hear a lot of success stories, horrid tales, and even crimes that happen in the industry.
A booming industry in countries like the Philippines is an online work that nobody really talks about. If you happen to find yourself enticed to become an OnlyFans chatter, think again. Not only have you entered the rabbit hole of sex work, but you have essentially become a fraudster and in the Philippines, both are considered crimes.
OnlyFans models, many of whom started creating content to survive during the pandemic, soon discovered that there is so much money out there, and as always money brings out the worst in all of us.
To make more money as an OnlyFans model, you need more subscribers or to convince your existing fans to buy more content. While an OnlyFans subscription is only the beginning, the sky is the limit as to how much an OnlyFans model can make — and there lies the gray area of OnlyFans.
To scale their businesses, these models started hiring OnlyFans chatters, people willing to work for pittance in the hope they could make sales that would mean higher commissions from the models.
And what do they sell?
The OnlyFans model’s exclusive content, which can be as basic as a sex video or a special fetish request from a paying subscriber. As an OnlyFans chatter, you pretend to be the model, you become her even if you are a male chatter.
On the other side of the chat, the victim doesn't know he isn't talking to the OnlyFans model but worse to someone who is thousands of miles away, hired as a chatter from a poor country like the Philippines.
Worse still, the poor male fan doesn't know he could even be talking to another man pretending to be a woman.

The insidious economy of scale

Worse still, the poor male fan doesn't know he could even be talking to another man pretending to be a woman.

The insidious economy of scale

Ideogram
Who would have thought the capitalist concept of the economy of scale would find its way into the adult content industry?
Sex work has come a long way. It used to be a one-on-one transaction, today we have platforms like OnlyFans that allow an adult content creator to become a business in itself, never before seen in the history of sex work.
First, let us define the meaning of economy of scale.
Economy of scale, in economics, the relationship between the size of a plant or industry and the lowest possible cost of a product. When a factory increases output, a reduction in the average cost of a product is usually obtained. This reduction is known as economy of scale. — Source
If you become a popular OnlyFans model, you will be surprised to learn that you can run your business 24/7 by employing agencies that in turn hire low-paid contractors in poor countries like the Philippines.
The chat specialists they give you, that was a huge deal for me,” she said. The agency provided a team of contractors whose sole job is to masquerade as the creator while swapping DMs with her subscribers. These textual conversations are meant to be the main way that OnlyFans users can interact with the models they adore. — Source
The OnlyFans ecosystem had evolved from being a mom-and-pop porn business into a billion-dollar platform where 190 million people are checking out their favorite OnlyFans model daily.
It is impossible even for anyone who found relative success in the platform to be able to talk to their fans because if they don't, that is a lost opportunity to further sell their products which usually are recycled adult content videos from their content library.
In a Reddit post of an OnlyFans chatter, the conversation had both its supporters and critics. While some would see their work as harmless, and that they are in sales, some recognize that they have become sex workers and while some become experts at being detached and call it part of their job, some have to learn how to desensitize themselves and focus on how they can make more money rather than check their moral values.
Not only do they have to take the persona of the OnlyFans model, but they also have to be engaging, knowing how to do sex talk which later on will need to progress to mastering the art of upselling, and by this means selling more sex videos from the creator.
As much as some would say it is just another way to make money online, and although they don't do any sexual acts themselves, they have become a sex worker, fraudsters, or both.
In its simplest definition, Sex workers are adults who receive money or goods in exchange for consensual sexual services or erotic performances, either regularly or occasionally.
By that definition, the OnlyFans chatter who engage in sex talk and make money from explicit content have undeniably become sex workers themselves.
And once you find yourself in the industry, it changes who you are, your morals and psyche — it just does. Even when I didn’t ask Russell for money, the lies I told him bothered me. I engaged in sex talk, pretended to be a female, and took advantage of Russell's vulnerability.
The whole experience changed who I was.

Final words

In the Philippines, you would even find tutorials on YouTube on how to be accepted as an OnlyFans chatter. There are also exclusive Facebook groups and anonymous Reddit groups where Filipinos would discuss their newfound online work.
A recent article from Wired showed a glimpse into the world of being an OnlyFans chatter, the whole OnlyFans ecosystem, why it had become a multi-billion dollar industry, and how it opened new businesses like chat management firms that hire these contractors.
What is fascinating about the article is that soon, there will be a class action suit against the people behind these chat management companies.
As one lawyer Carey argues, that the managers who run creators’ accounts are engaging in a type of bait and switch that fits the classic definition of fraud. “When you subscribe, the very first thing it says is, ‘Have a DM relationship,’” he said. “Well, that’s totally fraudulent … It’s an open secret they’re just defrauding people.” — Source
I don't judge anyone who finds themselves working as an OnlyFans chatter — the pay is good, and the likelihood of earning beyond what regular jobs can offer often blurs anyone’s moral judgment especially when you find yourself living in poverty like many of these young people in the Philippines.
OnlyFans has become a multibillion-dollar business, and it claims to be a technology company. Yet it all has the elements of sex work — the sex, the money, and potentially the crime.
They say prostitution is the oldest profession, and in today’s world OnlyFans is sex work 2.0.
I invite you to leave a comment and let’s have a conversation about sex work and fraud in the new era of technology.
Thank you for reading.Technology Behind Sex Work

2024.05.16 16:36 dek018 I found my new happy place

Hello, everyone!
After almost 2 months of "distro hopping" I finally found a place where I feel like home, literally feel like it was made for me, every detail seems to be perfect...
I have been using linux mint for almost 3 years now, I used it for 90% of my activities (and I literally only had windows for gaming, specially for VR)...
After some time I realized that steam was actually available for linux and I started looking that many of my games were available for linux and actually native (probably like 20 to 30% of them), I thought it would be nice to transfer my Linux into a bigger SSD, so I could split the games for linux in one SSD and the ones for Windows into another one...
Then I saw this little option in steam linux called: "make all games available" and I was surprised that I could actually run many of them, although I had no hope on running most of the games, I thought to myself it would be impossible to find a compatibility layer that made modern games work in Linux...
Eventually I noticed another little thing called "Proton" and saw that I can choose in the compatibility options multiple proton options, I saw that a huge amount of my games would run pretty well!
Afterwards, I tried enabling proton for some regular Linux-available games (like Cyberpunk 2077 and Howarts Legacy) that didn't run super well in regular linux (there was like stuttering or framerate drops, I couldn't really tell), but with Proton they would run even better than in Windows, it was amazing to see that!
Then I learned about two additional great applications: lutris and bottles (this was mostly because I had just installed 7th Heaven in Windows -The mod manager that can make the Classic Final Fantasy VII game look and feel absolutely stunning- and I wanted to give it a go in my Linux Mint), I followed an old tutorial on how to install the mod manager and I saw bottles, then I realized that there was another tool similar called Lutris (which was much better IMO, and it's my goto for any non steam game, specially for abandonware games, and it surprisingly runs games from like 20-30 years ago!)... I would use bottles mostly for mod managers and old puzzle games that I wanted to have in a single prefix (by the way, thanks to these two mod managers, I understood a lot about the world of prefixes and I was fascinated by it! With steam I never noticed this and with regular wine I had no idea how things worked, discovering Windows prefixes was like finding a brand new world!).
Later on, after having most of my games working on my Linux mint, I tried to run & make work every single possible "tricky" game, old and new (one example is paraworld, which literally took me an Hex modifier to make it work because of some weird port configuration, lol, that one would work in Linux, some other examples were games with the Easy Anti Cheat) and eventually made every single one of my games I tried to work (in total probably 200)...
However, the very last thing that was missing was to be able to play my VR games, and it was solely the reason to keep Windows in another partition (I was dumb enough to upgrade my windows 10 to 11, unfortunately), I started to look into the possibility on running a VR device on linux and discovered that the valve index was compatible with Linux, so, I thought in selling my HP Reverb G2, but because of it, I realized that Windows would actually TERMINATE COMPATIBILITY WITH WINDOWS MEDIA REALITY DEVICES AND DISABLE THE APPLICATION FOREVER! It was unreal for me, the worst kind of move I've ever seen in a corporation, even worse than Ubisoft taking away games you paid for, because this was a full fledged electronic device of hundreds (and in some cases thousands) of dollars...
At the same time, I made a post on reddit asking about VR in Linux and someone gave me some great advice about it and sent me a discord server link: "Linux VR Adventures", there I started to get into the rabbit hole about the VR possibilities in Linux, I statred looking for a great step by step tutorial to install Monado with Windows Mixed reality devices: I followed the tutorial and I succeeded! My linux Mint was able to use my VR headset as a display (and it can play properly VR 180 degree videos properly!).
However, that would only be the first part of the process: The second and hardest part would be to create a compatibility layer to either enhance or replace SteamVR itself (because, for some reason, SteamVR for Linux has a bug that closes the VR options and when they open again it says something like: "disabled Monado driver because on the last attempt, the application crashed", and I could never solve that problem, no matter what...
From the advice of my fellow reddit user as well, I tried to install Envision, which would be the tool to fix such problem by replacing SteamVR, but it was no use, this would be my first stopper in my Linux journey: unfortunately Envision required either Ubuntu 23 (The latest version of Mint is based on Ubuntu 22) or other more up to date kernel (i.e. latest arch or fedora), I spent probably the whole night trying to make envision work by compiling manually & installing dozens of packages because some dependency libraries required certain version of another and they piled up until the point I had to go to a very low level...
After all of that, I finally made envision work but when trying to create my VR profile, it showed me a weird error about my VR headset that I could never sort out, it was very frustrating but I knew it was time to give up and try something new...
So, what I did is to install Arch to replace Windows for good, it was probably one of the best decisions of my life, I would get rid of Windows forever, after 25 years or so using it, would be a semi-radical change, but I knew it was time: VR used to be the only reason to cling to them but if Windows was going to get rid of its flagship app & brick its devices, it had to go! (Plus I started to look about the multiple controversies about Windows 11 like the ads in the start menu and more recently the issue about Bitlocker, I have hated Windows & Microsoft for the better part of my life as well), it was simply time for a change!
After a couple hours I managed to install Arch and it was surprisingly great! I installed it alongside KDE Plasma 6 and I was astonished on how beautiful it looked and how many desktop effects, cursors, themes, login greeters, etc., I could use, it was my first time using KDE after only using Cinnamon and Gnome...
Then I tried installing steam on my Arch and everything ran very smoothly, I think I installed a couple of libraries but it was almost plug and play, games felt even running better than in Mint! However, Arch had a few issues that I couldn't ignore: the first one was an audio driver bug: I couldn't sort it out and my optical output wouldn't work (I didn't bother to fix it that much because I still had mint when I needed to use my optical output); the second issue wasn't much of an Arch's problem but it kinda turned me down: sddm and its multiple problems in the login greeters (I installed a few of them and when I tried to login the next time I had a black screen for no reason, the only way to login back was to login in mint and modify manually the config files for sddm in another partition, and then someone in reddit gave advice on how to start kde plasma without sddm and voila! it worked, only a singular sddm theme worked in the end but I was content with it). And the third and most important issue for me: a bunch of things that I needed to install manually that I already took for granted: a folder browser, a folder compression file, a text editor, etc. (I know the general purpose of Arch is to be as minimalist and customizable as possible, but for me it was a bit tedious, specially adding the right click actions in the config files for some apps, it made things unecessarily complicated for my liking)...
Eventually I got a barebones gaming laptop and I asked in reddit if it would be better to install either Fedora or Debian for gaming: most people recommended me Fedora and I got excited about it: I installed the Fedora Workstation edition and it worked like a charm in everything! Fedora would be specially useful for me because I'm a developer and I've seen everywhere that this is probably the best System for Developers (and I also noticed that it has the best compatibility with some technologies like Oracle, which would be great, because I was never able to install Oracle in my linux mint, I worked mostly with .NET, Angular and I would start with python and Docker as well)...
However, I liked both, Fedora and KDE so much that I wanted to see if I could get Fedora AND KDE in my main computer, I made a hard decision on replacing Arch for the Fedora 40 KDE version, and I was very excited to look into it!
BUT, there were a number of issues I experienced with this new Fedora KDE: the first one was that the KDE effects (one of the main reasons I chose this particular system) were kinda broken, sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't, they were like slower than in arch and had some of the options disabled (like the little colors you can use in the hexagon "burn my window" effect to open and close windows), and in general it felt slower than Arch, sddm didn't work either, I didn't know if it was because Fedora 40 just came a few days ago and KDE Plasma 6 wasn't fully compatible yet or what happened, but I was willing to accept this, as long as my games worked...
The second and most important issue is that I couldn't make most of my steam games to work I tried to look what I was missing, I installed ProtonUpQt and a bunch of libraries but it was no use, something was wrong but I couldn't pinpoint what was it...
Then I remembered that in the reddit post I made, someone recommended me Nobara (because it was a Fedora Fork, mostly adapted for gaming, developed by Mr. Glorious Eggroll himself, with everything out of the box to make it plug and play for games) and I decided to give it a go...
After making the live cd, I noticed that KDE worked much better (I think the latest version of Nobara still uses Fedora 39 & Plasma KDE 5 but because of that it's a bit more stable?), I installed it into my system and started customizing everything like crazy! I also tried sddm and it also failed, however, it at least allowed me to login from a black screen (rather than not allowing me a login, like in Arch), I decided to ditch sddm in favor of LightDM and it was probably for the best, since I've used LightDM in Mint for years and I knew exactly how to configure and customize it, and it never broke!
After adapting the system to my liking, I noticed that everything I would want is already installed: a good web browser, ProtonUpQt, Steam, Lutris, there's even a tool for Xbox controller drivers, it was crazy to me to see all of this, plus everything on top of a Fedora system that would allow me to work on my software development projects.
Then the real final test would come: how good does it run steam games? I tried at least 50 of my most recent games and all of them ran flawlessly! I didn't have to install anything, all came up first try, no issues! The next step would be to see if Lutris still ran the games that I could run in Mint and: it did: I copied every prefix that I have in Mint to my Nobara Lutris and they worked the exact same way! Everything looked perfect!
The Very last step would be to immerse myself into the VR world that I still left pending, however, I haven't tried the VR installation steps yet but I was able to download & run the AppImage of envision and run it (unlike mint, where I had to compile it manually, not without the nightmare of compiling & updating all the dependencies as well)... I looked that open composite was another possibility for this and I would try either of them alongside Monado eventually (I haven't done it yet because I had to travel but once I'm back, I'll 100% do it!).
At this point I'm mostly convinced about replacing Mint for good and take advantage of all my hard drives: I have Nobara in a 1tb nvme m2 and mint in a 4tb regular SATA ssd, I could use that mint drive as an additional ssd for games or something, it doesn't make so much sense to have a dual boot of systems that do mostly the same (Nobara being the superior one in multiple ways, of course), I was willing to have Arch dual booted with Mint because Arch had better compatibility with VR but for me it was very hard to think about Arch as my main and only system, for all the issues that I mentioned before), but now I definitely found a place where I want to stay, a place I can call home, and I feel very excited for having this great system and the future things I'll do in it!

2024.05.16 15:01 FelicitySmoak_ Thursday, May 16, 2013 - Jackson v. AEG Live Day 12

Trial Day 12
Motions
There was a motions hearing during the morning session about Frank Dileo's emails and Conrad Murray's police interview.
The Jacksons team are trying to get Frank Dileo's emails. Jacksons believe there may be discussions between DiLeo and AEG about MJ & his health. David Regoli, a lawyer for Mrs. Dileo (Frank passed in 2011), said Mrs. DiLeo asked him to review the subpoena by Katherine Jackson's attorney, go through the emails & produce anything relevant to the parties.
Jackson's attorneys want to make sure AEG turned over all the email conversations AEG had with everyone about Michael. If it's proven they didn't, it could be a problem for AEG's attorney. Everyone is on standby.
Judge ruled that Murray's June 27 LAPD interview is considered hearsay and it can't be presented to the jury. Judge said Murray's statement might be admissible if the former doctor testified in court.
Julie Hollander Testimony
Jackson Direct
In the afternoon session Julie Hollander, AEG's VP of Controller and Event Operation, testified. She has been called as an adverse witness by Jacksons
'Adverse witness' is sometimes referred to as a hostile witness - a witness who identifies with the opposing party because of a relationship or a common interest in the outcome of the litigation
First part of her testimony was explaining who hired her (Timm Wooley) and what a CEO/CFO does. She works for AEG Live, under AEG
Hollander said that in 2009 Wooley was more than just a tour accountant. Wooley came back to work on the This Is It tour. Hollander says she reports directly to the CFO.
Hollander said she was responsible for overseeing 'the books' (accounting term) for anything related to the project This Is It.
"I'm responsible for making sure the books are maintained for the tours," Hollander described.
"The books" is an electronic accounting system.
Hollander was responsible for the financial/accounting for the This Is It tour. She estimated she worked on about 20 tours --several concerts. Hollander said she didn't prepare the budgets for the tour, Wooley did. Hollander was responsible for overseeing the books and the general ledger of all transactions related to This Is It but said it was AEG executive Timm Woolley who actually created and managed the budget and made sure people got paid
She reported the budget primarily to Paul Gongaware. Hollander said budget was the costs expected to incur in the tour with developing the shows, taking show on the road, getting gear to London. Other budgeted costs included traveling for people involved, housing for some people involved and insurance
Hollander said the company had a policy manual saying payment would be predicated upon the execution of the contract.
"We had situations where contracts were signed later," Hollander said.
She said, however, that there were situations where contracts were signed after Jackson's death
"Due to the abrupt end of the tour the contracts were being negotiated."

Hollander: "My role was to execute payments pursuant to executed contracts."
Hollander: "My understating was that Dr. Murray was part of the budget, is listed on the budget for the tour at the request of the artist."
She agreed she saw Dr. Murray's contract, but says it was un-executed, since it was not signed by all parties. Hollander called the doctor's contract with AEG "a draft" because, although it was signed by Murray, neither Jackson nor AEG had signed it. Hollander said that if all the terms of the contract were met and remained consistent, Dr. Murray would be paid retroactively from 5/1/09

Panish: "You don't know whether Dr. Murray was performing services for MJ?"
Hollander: "I don't know, I can't say for sure, not me, personally"

"Timm Wooley advised me that Dr. Murray was being engaged at the request of the artist," Hollander testified and added that the budgets were ultimately approved by Gongaware.
Hollander testified that Murray's salary of $150,000 each for the months of May and June that year was included in a budget approved by executive Paul Gongaware.
"If Michael Jackson didn't die and AEG signed, then AEG would owe the money, right?", Brian Panish, the Jackson family's attorney, asked.
"If all parties signed it would have been a fully executed contract, yes, and I would have to, if the costs were approved. It would be no basis for me to say I'm not going to pay that", Hollander said.
Hollander: "There was $300,000 listed on the budget for Dr. Murray, yes. That budget was approved by Mr. Gongaware"
Panish: "For London there was more than 1 million dollars in the budget to pay Dr. Murray, right?"
Hollander:"I don't recall a figure of $1Million"
Brian Panish shows Hollander a large binder with 80 documents she reviewed to refresh her recollection
Panish: "AEG advanced money to Michael Jackson, is that right?"
Hollander: "Yes, it was an advance, recoupable in some capacity"
Panish showed an email from 5/18/09 from Hollander to Wooley:
"We are in the process of quickly pulling together an urgent re-forecast for Mr. Anschutz and need the latest and greatest on Michael. I recall that you were working on an update. Is it ready for consumption? I need something by tomorrow at the latest. Once the numbers are in, I need direction from you with respect to the split between UK and US"
On May 18, 2009, Hollander wrote an email to several executives asking for information that would help give AEG owner Philip Anschutz an idea of the upcoming tour profits.
Panish asked Hollander, "They weren't asking you how the rehearsals were going, were they?"
"No", Hollander answered
Panish : "They wanted to know how much money would be made for the U.S. and how much money would be made for the U.K., correct?"
Hollander : "Yes"
Panish: "Do you know if AEG ever performed a background check on Dr. Murray?"
Hollander: "I'm not aware of anything in that regard"
Hollander said she did not know who negotiated the compensation for Dr. Murray. He was the only doctor budgeted for the tour.
Hollander: "I talked to Mr. Wooley about the inclusion of Dr. Murray in the budget. I talked to Mr. Trell (in-house attorney) as to the conditions he'd be paid"
Panish showed the jury the budget from 5/16/09 for 27 shows: Management Medical --300,000; 450,000; 750,000 Total: $1.5 Million to pay Dr. Murray
Hollander verified a document created May 16, 2009, that listed dozens of changes to the This Is It budget. Murray was listed as item #29.
"Michael wishes to have a permanent physician available on call throughout the pre-tour period on operational period', the document said.
There are 2 months at $150,000 newly budgeted.
On April 30, 2009, Panish showed a document with $300,000 budgeted for management medical.
Dr. Emery Brown , Propofol expert from Harvard, is announced as the next witness to be called.

Summary:
Jpndate.com is a dangerous Romance scam. All the women are paid actors for the website from China. They will try to get into a relationship with you very fast, don’t fall for it. They are milking you for money like if you're a cow. They will threaten to kill you or your family if you call out their scam. They might also say they will sue you. If you stop paying them, they will text you very little. They will never video call you face-to-face. Jpndate.com has a sister scam website from the same people called sayhiup.com. When you buy something on Jpndate the payment goes to Cudate Limited, so that site must be part of the scam also. There is a company in China doing all type of illegal and immoral practices. Their name is Zhengzhou Zhongzhiqi Technology Co., Ltd. / 郑州市中之祺科技有限公司 . They have their main technology business but they also run a list of many scam websites stealing money from American men, Asian, and European men. Such as Cudate, JPNDate, SayhiUp. These are romance scam sites where all the women work for the company. If you make a female account it will pend forever. Only men get approved. They claimed before to be an American-owned company then I exposed them now they claim to be Dutch. Their servers are all in China. They never filed paperwork with any foreign country. They are none of these the Chinese pretending to run many dating sites when in fact it’s all fake. They claim to be in nations their not. They have fake terms of service. I used PayPal before I didn't know it was a scam. I paid in dollars, but they refused to refund me till I told PayPal. PayPal made them. Then they refused to pay me the total amount they wanted to pay me on yuan when I paid dollars. I report them to FTC. They also try to hack my laptop for tell the government the truth about them. They probably get funds from the Communist Party government. They are very very bad people. Please look into it or forward this message somewhere where it can be looked into. Pretends to be a legit dating site but feel more like a pay-to-use website for fake love. All women here are paid actors for the site. The same few women have multiple profiles pretending to be different people. Funny part is anytime you call out JPNDate bs they change their terms of service. Screenshot everything people. They have a fake page saying their trying to stop scammers, it all bs they are the scammers.

My Story:
(Update): I know it is the same person, They told me in a text message.
Do you like Asian women?
Real Asian women?
These ones are real!
I know who they are.
Hi! This is Mark Faraday talking to you.
This is my story of how a website named JPNDate Idols scammed me out of 4000 American dollars.
First, I was on Japan Cupid, a dating site. On Japan Cupid, no one can chat unless one of you has a membership. I bought a 1-week membership. Within 5 minutes to 10 minutes, a woman nicknamed Yomi from Japan messaged me; this should have been a red flag for me. We talked for a while. She said she was interested in me. She asked me if I could move over to the dating site JPNDate because she paid for membership there and not Japan Cupid. She also promised to delete her account on Japan Cupid after we changed sites. She does delete her account off Japan Cupid.
Unlike a normal scam artist, who may only have 1 or 2 photos, she has several photos on her profile. My trust in her grows a bit seeing that. She then privately messaged me several more photos of her. She asked me for some photos, which I sent. She then sends back happy and heartfelt emojis. She told me she doesn’t date Asian men anymore because they were violent to her in the past and her last boyfriend cheated on her. She talked about how she didn’t want to fight with me. She also said we could talk about any topic.
She would compliment me often, as I did for her. Of course, on my profile page, I try to post my best pictures. Throughout my life, I have had many different hairstyles. She even mentioned this and got very happy and asked if I was a hairstylist.
The spam of talking between us was from January 20th, 2024, to March 24th, 2024.
On JPNDate, there is an upgrade system. You need Blue Diamond to chat with others. Crown to send videos. Blue Diamond is 20 dollars per month, and Crown is 80 dollars per month. I got the Blue Diamond membership at first. It showed her with it too. After a day or two, she asked me to upgrade like she did to the Crown membership so she could send me a video. I upgraded it, and she did actually send me a video. All pictures and the video match the same person and the same face. Some pictures were in different locations, and some were like three different pictures in the same place. We then later buy a 6-month Crown membership for each other because it is cheaper than 1 month at a time. I bought it for her, and she bought it for me.
At this point, I start to believe. This person was giving me all their time. They reply very often, and their texting time was the same as Japan timezones every single day. They spoke not only English but also Japanese almost fluently. However, they did let me know that they're still learning English and sometimes use a translator.
She let me know that this website has something called a mall. This should have been red flag number 2. You pay 1 American dollar for each gold point. Paypal is the only thing that works. When we started dating, she said it was normal for couples in Japan to send each other gifts. It was a symbol of forever love in Japan, she claimed. As an American, I didn’t know if this was true. I googled it and couldn’t get a clear answer. She said whatever I bought her, she would buy me as well. She asked if I liked necklaces or charms. I said anything was fine. She wanted me to pick up a necklace. At first, she picked up a $1,000 necklace from the site mall and asked me. I said no; that's way too much money for that. She said how about a 300-dollar Jade Romance charm. She told me to get her white one; she would get me the green one. I questioned if she was legit. She started crying. She somehow convinced me at the time that she was legit again. I did buy it. A few weeks later, I did receive the overpriced Green Jade Romance love charm to my address from her. I never told her which day exactly my tracking information said it would come to my house, but I asked her, and her tracking date was the same week as mine. By the way something almost the same as this necklace is 12 dollars on Amazon. It also broke when I got it in the mail. Probably cost them 2 cent to make.
For the next few days, we had a wonderful, happy conversation. It is late January, and I know Valentine's Day is coming. I offered to get her flowers. I got her flowers and chocolate at a very high price of multiple hundred dollars. She then gets so happy. She told me many times how she wanted to go to America and find me.
We talked about many topics for several more days. She told me she worked in an office in Tokyo. Yomi told me her real name was Miyuki Miyamoto. Which is very funny because I told her before I was a Nintendo fan, and this is the same last name as Mario and Zelda Creator. She also said she had her apartment to herself, which is true; she does own an apartment. She talked about how life is stressful right now in Japan. She claimed to have grown up in the Japanese town of Nagano, Japan. She also said she had gone to a university in Tokyo with a major in computer science. She wanted to visit America in July for 15 days when she had her time off. July is a normal time for people to get off in Japan for vacation, so I thought nothing of it.
I told her that I was from a smaller town in California, but I lived not far from San Francisco. I told her how my town is quiet and how I could see mountains outside my house. She said she wanted a peaceful life and that life in Tokyo is too fast. And she always had great things to say about every picture I sent. We also talk about going on dates. I asked most of the questions, but she did ask me questions as well.
I started to ask her a lot of questions about Japan. Like if she visited Himeji Castle, she said no. However, I did say yes to visiting Mount Fuji. I should have asked for a photo of this, but I didn’t. She was very happy; she told me very many topics about Japan. We even briefly talked about anime. She told me she liked Digimon, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Detective Conan. This information is important later. We also talked about how both of us were big Disney fans growing up.
One day she told me, how work was busy today. I told her it was okay and we didn’t need to talk today. She did, however, still text me a little bit that day. This was the only day during our whole time talking when she was super busy. There is nothing wrong with this; all humans get busy. I decided to spend my evening drawing a picture of me and Yomi on a date to surprise her. When I sent it to her, she did not react. This was a red flag for me. I tried to convince myself that she just didn’t like drawings that much. I know I sound really dumb right here, but whoever I was talking to is very smart and knows a lot of things.
We started talking a few days later about the idea of meeting and going on dates together. I know that the yen is weak against the American dollar right now. I told them I would pay for anything they wanted when they were in America because I was in love. This was a big, big, big mistake. They then asked if I could give them 1500 dollars to buy a plane ticket. Never give money to people you never meet in real life, folks. Don’t be dumb like me. Turns out the ticket was actually 2100, so they asked for another 500 dollars the next day, claiming their friend let them borrow the money, and they paid the difference. They did show me a picture of a plane ticket. With the name Yomi and the correct airports in Tokyo and San Francisco. This gave me more trust in them; I got a lot of photos, videos, and even a picture of a plane ticket.
At some point, I talked to them about social media. They claim to only have Skype and Line. I found it very hard to believe a woman in her 20s wasn’t on Instagram or Tik Tok. I went on Instagram and typed Yomi, and I found a Yomi who looked just like her. This made me think: why did she lie? What confused me is that all the pictures on her Instagram were different from the ones she sent me, other than one image that was the same. Meaning that the images were not clearly stolen from there.
I looked up JPNDate online; there isn’t much info on this website (Right Now), other than one reddit forum from 1 year ago. Someone said something about being scammed by an IDOL on this site. They also said the website wasn’t in Japan but in China. I was wondering why I never saw new females joining the website; it was the same 23 pages worth of them. I wanted to test the website to see if it was legit. I made another account, a fake male account with AI artwork. It was approved in one second. I then made a fake female account; it said pending approval. It has now been 2 weeks since I made that account, and it still says pending approval. This means all the women on this website have to be fake actors. There is also a setting on JPNDate to see who has been online last or which accounts are the oldest. When I asked weeks before, Yomi claimed she had been on this website only for a short time. Her oldest picture was dated October 20, 2023. Yet she has the sixth-oldest account on JPNDate, according to the website. The reddit forum I talked about before was over a year old.
When I was on this website for a month, at least 10 other women tried to text me. There was this one profile of a woman from Taiwan, age 20. She texted me three times in one month. When I joined, her age was listed as 20, and at some point, she changed her age to 25 on her profile. I ignored all these women. This proves again that all these women are fake. I do think they are women based on how they type, but they are not truthful like they act like they are. As I write this, I just realized this is Yomi's sister; it matches the other Yomi account's sister tag.
I knew this website wasn’t telling the truth. I found the JPNDate IP address and tracked it to a server in Hong Kong, China, hosted by Alibaba cloud servers. Reddit was right; the website is Chinese. I took pictures of the website code just in case. I asked Yomi if she knew Alibaba. Then she asked if I’m going to China—a very strange follow-up question.
At this point, I was confused. Who is Yomi? I couldn’t find anything about Miyuki Miyamoto, only Yomi. On Yomi Instagram, she speaks Chinese, not Japanese. I started to think there are no Japanese women on this website like they claim to be. She does speak Japanese, though.
I started using more than 10 different software programs to track who Yomi was. I found like 1000 pictures of an idol, WeChat model, singer, dancer, person on endless Chinese dating sites, and a valiant professional gamer part of the AI’U agency for over 8 years. I found two other Instagram accounts with Yomi's face. Another account in Chinese with an idol name other than Yomi also had a Facebook page. The Chinese account has a post about her going to Australia in early 2024, where she is typing in English words. I also found an account where she speaks only Korean on Instagram. I also found a tik-tok where someone dances and looks 100% the same as Yomi, to whom I’m talking. The part that is crazy is that none of the images are 100% the same, but the person is the same in all of them.
This shocked me; I follow all the accounts. I saw the stories daily to see who this person was. Her Yomi account is just her normal pictures and atm company or something. Her Korean account is about traveling to Singapore, Spain, and South Korea. She also posts a lot about Disney toys here. When I talked to the scammer about Disney, I had no idea about this.
At this point, I knew that many men had been scammed out of money for fake love, not just me. These women are real women. However, there are actors pretending to be in love. They will crush your heart and call you names after a few weeks if you don’t buy their stuff. It has to be from JPNdate Mall only, nowhere else. JPNdate Mall prices are crazy high. I am not sure if the point of the website is just for money or if it is actually for women to study English or what. Chinese women, pretending to be Japanese (most of them), that have connections to Korean music and gaming on professional teams. Man, what a hell of a story this is. This sounds like a Hollywood movie, but it's real, or at least partly. At this point, everything I say seems to be true based on what I know.
Yomi told me early on that she had one older sister and one younger brother. It seems like she is actually a twin, and she is the younger sister. Yomi claims to be 25, but I think she is closer to 27 or 28 based on finding a listing of her work in 2015 at Twitch Gaming. You have to be 18 or older to work at Twitch gaming, unless your parents sign things.
When I showed the pictures I found to Yomi on JPNdate, she played the victim card on me. Saying she thinks I’m a liar and she wants to break up. Then she gave me her Skype account to try to prove it was legit, and all the other images and accounts were stolen and fake. Her Skype name is Rose, with a One Piece picture. She sent me many voice clips, crying, trying to convince me that she was real. I put them in software, and the voice was 30% human, 70% AI. Clearly, a woman is changing her Chinese or Korean voice to sound Japanese. A PC gamer would know how to do this; they do it all the time to troll. Yomi told me she didn’t play video games anymore, but I found a picture that wasn’t that old of a woman who looked the same as her; she had a Nintendo Switch with a white OLED in it. Btw it’s a known fact that Yomi uses software to cheat in the Pc FPS games.
I can’t let Yomi, her sister, and her idol friends scam men for their time and money. Yomi Chiense's name is Vera Yuanxin (维拉). Her twin sister goes by veravera_zhangg.
Yomi “deleted her profile” when I exposed her. But Yomi is still there with no pictures. Two they clearly have other accounts with people who look like she just changed hairstyle, talking and trying to scam other men.
Remember when I said the anime part was important? On Yomi's Korean account, she has a friend with whom she talks about Digimon. She gave him a Disney toy. She told me she wanted to cosplay a fox; his profile is a fox. There is just so much proof that these are the same people.
Later someone hit me up on Reddit from the Phillippines and told me how the same person Yomi scammed them. How for months Yomi promise them so many things. Then when they said it came to going on the plane to visit him they said they were sick or dying or something.
Yomi also made a fake Instagram pretending to be Joe Biden and sent me a friend invite. I messaged and it was so funny how bad it was on their part. I said “Yomi are you trolling me?” then they deleted their account. This was on April 6th, 2024. Yomi tries so hard but use a lot of cheap things that are clearly fake like ai artwork, bots for like at ai_u agency, and fake profiles where she comments herself and attacks anyone who calls her out fairly.
After exposing Jpndate they Ip ban my address lol. Then on social media joke about attacking me.
If you call out their BS they threaten your family and yourself. Just stay away from all these sites if you're going to date online use well-known legit sites. I got over 2000 screenshots of proof.
