2024.04.29 09:47 _dogpole History of some lesser-known Soviet Heavies

History of some lesser-known Soviet Heavies
Hi Everyone, today I'm going to talk about some of the lesser known Soviet heavies in the game, and just how historical they are. I tried to choose some that I found were the most interesting, or seemed the most dubious, but actually have a bit of history to them!

KV-5

Despite its provenance in the game, trying to find blueprints of this tank was a headache to say the least. That said, there is some pretty nice information about it! The KV-5 was born out of an extension of a KV-4 proposal in 1941, specifically the one by N.V. Tseits.
The KV-4 blueprint by Tseits
Work would be carried out at the Leningrad Kirov plant with the lead engineer being I.A Aristov. It was assumed that the frontal armour would be 180mm and the side armour to be 150mm. The gun was intended to be the 107mm ZiS-6 - the same gun for the KV-3 and KV-4 projects. The combat weight of the tank was intended to be 100 tonnes. It was intended to mount twin V-2K Diesel engines, however this ended up being the M-40 Diesel which would've outputted 1200hp. The work began on this tank starting in September 1941 and allegedly there were 8 - 10 prototypes made, however there is conflicting information on whether it ever went beyond the paper. My best guess is components were made, but no full prototypes were ever built.
KV-5 turret proposal
Hull blueprints for the KV-5

ST-II

The ST-II was a further development of the ST-I, intending to improve on the ST-I where possible, a number of improvements were put forward by an engineer called Ganin, who believed existing heavy tanks had a number of disadvantages with their designs and suggested a number of innovations, one of these being the addition of another main gun. The main guns of this were intended to be either 122mm guns or 100mm guns, and the redesign of the ST-I's turret also allowed for two machine guns of low caliber, most likely 12.7mm. The armaments would be serviced by two loaders and aided by a special rapid-fire ammunition rack to increase the reload speed.
The premise of this design was that the tank has the ability to strike a target immediately, and if the first shot falls short, then correction can be made with the second shell. On top of this, if one of the guns went out of action, then the tank is still not disabled, and the second gun can still be fired while the issues are dealt with. Unfortunately the design didn't get past the blueprint stage.
The ST-II blueprints
This tank is also the entire basis of the Russian Double Barrel line, the other vehicles are "what-ifs" for the same concept to be applied to the IS-2 and IS-3. Reportedly WG even stated this on the forums when the tanks were released, however due to most old threads being removed now, I am unable to find them.

Object 752

Developed on the basis of creating a new heavy tank that would fit in the existing weight restrictions given in June 1952 at the Initiative of Ministry of Transport Engineering. The project would be appointed to the Chelyabinsk Kirov plant. By the end of 1952 the first version of the preliminary design would be completed. By Mid 1953, the project would be presented, this was divided into two projects, the Object 752 and the Object 777.
During the design stage of the Object 752, there were a number of interesting concepts to keep the weight below 50 tonnes. The armour for the tank was intended to be variable thickness with a complex shape to increase the armour protection while keeping the weight down. Most of the hull was proposed to be assembled from a mix of cast and rolled parts of different sizes and shapes, the frontal plate being a curved parabolic shape with a variable thickness between 90 and 125mm.
Interior layout of the Object 752
The gun of the tank was intended to be the 122mm M-62T2 which was rifled and had a very high shell velocity of 1500m/s. This would also allow the tank to carry 40 rounds in the fighting compartment. This version would have an assisted loading system to sort the round and cartridge to make them ready to load. There was also another mechanism which was fully automatic, which was able to hold 28 rounds of various types, however the loading would still be done by a loader.
Object 752 automatic loading system
A separate design framework for the Object 752 would suggest the use of an oscillating turret, this new turret would be comprised of two parts, the lower half for rotation and the upper part served as the verticle guide for the gun. This made the auto-loader a mandatory feature. With this design, the tank would weigh around 45.3 tonnes.
Ammunition loadout of the Object 752
This plan was presented on June 15th 1953 alongside the Object 777. The Object 777 was ordered to be redesigned, and there were no further mentions of the Object 752. The design was likely ignored due to the complexity of the design and technological development. it went no further than the blueprints.

Object 780

The Object 780 was developed in the early 1960s as a modification of the Object 775, and as a successor to the T-64 tank. It seems this didn't get very far, as the Ministry of Defence decided the future of tank projects and had some presentations, one of which included the Object 780 (I could not find any information about the early history of this project). However, fast forward another 10 years, and the 780 was proposed again as a missile tank project. It was apparently influenced by reports from NATO about the development of the MBT-70, and by now it different quite drastically from the Object 775.
Internal layout of the Object 780
The chief designer of the 780 was Pavel Isakov from the Chelyabinsk plant, and the entire crew would be placed inside the turret, including the driver, this was done via a non-rotating egg shaped cabin inside the turret, which meant the rotation of the turret didn't affect the drivers position. The tank equipped a 152mm gun which was intended to fire GL-ATGM "Rubin" missiles, but could also fire conventional rounds. The engine was planned to be the 5TDF which had around 700hp. A scale model would also be presented.
The scale model
An other view of the scale model
The version we see in game seems to follow the blueprints closer than the scale model. It is unknown why the vehicle was not built, but it was likely due to complexity.

IS-M

Developed only months after the production of the IS-2 by Shashmurin and his team of engineers, and intended to be a direct upgrade to the IS-2. The design would be designated the IS-M. Likely M for "Модернизирован" (Modernized). There was some extensive testing at Kubinka proving grounds in Jan - Feb 1943, which concluded the armour was insufficient. In November of the same year, technical requirements were changed by GABTU, intended to weigh 55 tonnes and have a crew of 5. The frontal armour was intended to be 160 - 200mm and mount either 122 or 152mm main armament. The design was quite unorthodox having a front mounted engine and a rear placed fighting compartment, this arrangement would help increase crew survivability. It is unknown which armament was chosen for the IS-M, it was likely the 122mm D-25T, which was the same as the IS-2. There were also two further variants of the IS-M, one with a different running gear and another with the 152mm BL-8 gun in a case-mate (this is the ISU-2SH in Lesta). The project was discontinued in favour of the IS-6, with only one drawing being known to exist.
The IS-M drawing and armour layout

So, there you have it, some of the more interesting and lesser known soviet heavy designs. I hope you all enjoyed reading my slightly long post again, and I hope to do more of these in the future :)

2024.04.29 04:22 FuzzyDuck1987 New Micro Dagger C1 EjectFailure

I finally got a chance to go to the range to test out my Micro Dagger C1 FDE color. I had about 6 failures to eject during my range session. 3 in the psa mag, 3 in a Glock 43 mag with a +2 extender. I was shooting Remington UMC 9MM 124gr. I wasn’t able to try 115gr Fiocchi bc I left those at home. I have a Glock 43x which shot that ammo with no issues tonight. I put about 100 rounds through the Micro Dagger. Kind of frustrated.

2024.04.29 02:42 Krokodil84 Farina Armor: I need a test candidate

So, I'm Arthur from Saika Armory, and I'm recreating the Italian Farina Helmet from WW1.
I don't make costume stuff; a big part of my work is making things that function as originally intended as closely as possible.
I'm looking for someone with access to a long carcano with gain twist rifling and access to historical loads. The original Farina helmets were tested with this and rated as stopping the shot at 175 meters.
I could invest in getting a rifle and the correct reloading setup, but I don't have any proper ranges anywhere near me to test, so it's a bit of a moot point. If anyone would be interested in working with me on this, when I have a prototype ready to go, I'd be sending it out for testing. I'd like to receive it back of course, and will handle any shipping costs as well as costs of ammunition used for the test. It'd also be great to have it filmed if possible!
Please comment here of course, I left this a bit brief but am more than happy to get deeper in on the topic. If you fit the criteria and would like to be the tester for this project, please directly message my page Saika Armory on facebook!

2024.04.29 02:28 No_Young6235 Blood Red Sky: A Tale of the Indomitable Human Spirit

The year is 3048, and the battlefield stretches endlessly beneath a blood-red sky. The black sand desert landscape is a canvas of death, littered with the twisted remnants of war machines and the fallen bodies of soldiers.
Amidst this desolation stands our protagonist, a lone figure clad in battered armor, his weapon raised against the encroaching tide of alien beasts. Beside him lies his fallen comrade, blood seeping into the black sand, a silent testament to the brutality of war.
With the enemy closing in, our hero is faced with a choice: to heed the call of duty and press forward into the heart of the fray, or to heed the cries of his fallen brother and attempt to save him from the clutches of death.
The air is thick with the stench of death, the distant roar of gunfire and the anguished cries of the wounded serving as a grim backdrop to the chaos unfolding before him. Every fiber of his being screams for him to rush to his comrade's aid, to offer what little comfort he can in their final moments. And yet, a voice deep within him whispers of the greater good, of the lives that hang in the balance, depending on his courage and strength in this darkest of hours.
As he stands poised on the brink of decision, time seems to stand still, the world around him fading into insignificance as he grapples with the weight of his choices. In the end, it is not the fear of death that stays his hand, but the knowledge that to abandon his post would be to betray everything he holds dear: his honor, his comrades, and the hope of a better tomorrow.
With a heavy heart and a determined stride, our hero turns his back on his fallen brother, knowing that his sacrifice will not be in vain. Gripping his weapon tightly, he charges headlong into the fray, a lone beacon of defiance amidst the encroaching darkness.
For in this moment, as the blood-red sky looms overhead and the earth trembles beneath his feet, he knows that the fate of worlds hangs in the balance, and that he alone holds the key to their salvation.
The battle rages on, a symphony of chaos and carnage unfolding amidst the desolate landscape. The alien beasts swarm like a relentless tide, their grotesque forms silhouetted against the blood-red sky, their eyes burning with an unholy hunger for destruction.
With each swing of his blade, our protagonist becomes a force of nature, a whirlwind of death and destruction amidst the swirling chaos. The weight of his weapon feels like an extension of his very being, its cold steel singing with each strike as it cleaves through flesh and bone with brutal efficiency.
But as the ammunition runs dry and the enemy continues to advance, a primal instinct takes hold, driving our hero to forsake reason and embrace the savagery of hand-to-hand combat.
In the crimson haze of battle, he becomes a predator, stalking his prey with a ferocity born of desperation.
His movements are a blur of motion, his senses heightened to a razor's edge as he dances on the edge of madness. The air is thick with the metallic tang of blood and the acrid stench of burning flesh, visceral brutality.
With each kill, the line between man and beast blurs, until he is no longer a soldier fighting for a cause, but a creature of instinct driven by the primal urge to survive at any cost.
And yet, amidst the carnage, a flicker of humanity remains, a glimmer of hope in the darkness that threatens to consume him.
As the last of the aliens fall before him, he struggles to catch his breath, he knows that the true test lies ahead, as a monstrous figure looms on the horizon, the king of the aliens, a towering colossus amidst the chaos.
The battlefield falls silent, the cries of the fallen echoing across the desolate landscape like mournful dirges in the wind.
As the dust settles and the sun sets on the blood-soaked horizon, our protagonist stands alone amidst the wreckage, a lone figure bathed in the crimson light of dusk.
With a defiant gleam in his eyes, our hero prepares for the final showdown, knowing that the fate of his people hangs in the balance.
With every step, he feels the weight of the world upon his shoulders, the burden of a thousand lives lost in the name of freedom.
Gripping his blood-stained blade, he steps forward. Standing, eyes towards the sky, he screams. “We were born to inherit the stars!”
Energy is pumping into him. The air is heavy with anticipation, the tension palpable as the two titans stand poised for battle. In the distance, the king of the aliens looms large, a monstrous behemoth whose very presence seems to blot out the sun.
But our hero does not falter, his resolve unyielding in the face of impossible odds. For in this moment, as the fate of worlds hangs in the balance, he knows that he alone holds the key to their salvation.
With a primal roar that echoes across the battlefield, our hero charges headlong into the fray, his blood boiling with righteous fury as he meets the king of the aliens head-on.
With each blow, he feels the weight of centuries of struggle and sacrifice, the hopes and dreams of his people riding on his shoulders. And yet, amidst the chaos and despair, a glimmer of hope remains, a spark of courage that refuses to be extinguished.
For in the heart of every warrior lies the indomitable human spirit, a flame that burns bright even in the darkest of nights.

2024.04.29 00:37 GeminiPestdeath Co-operative Democracy: A Field Guide

This field guide is meant for the influx of Divers who joined up in the advent of the Second Galactic War and serves to encourage fellow divers to learn the most basic and rudimentary of co-operative fundamentals (see: etiquette). As such, it should be read with the intent to reduce and minimize 'toxic elements' in operational capacities.
On Removal of Squad Mates from Mission Capacities:
At times divers may find themselves beset by traitors in their midst. These traitors can and should be dispersed by squad leaders when just cause is presented. However, squad leaders who disperse divers without just cause should be considered traitorous; the denial of adequate pay in requisition slips and needed research materials (formally known as 'samples') is necessary for all divers to further democracy. The dispersal of patriotic divers under the guise of "traitors" without just cause is among the highest forms of treason - aiding and abetting the enemy, especially so when performed during mission extraction.
On Reinforcing Squad Mates during Mission Capacities:
A full squadron of divers - consisting of four (4) elements - is the most effective means of conducting and accomplishing mission objectives. Divers are highly encouraged to make use of their Destroyers' reinforce strategem with which to replenish casualties. Excessively delayed, unnecessarily delayed, or outright failure to reinforce fallen divers when capability to do so presents is a form of treason as it undermines mission capabilities. If squadrons are not shooting, committing to a tactical retreat, or otherwise pre-occupied with mission objectives, they should be reinforcing.
On use of Resupply Strategems:
Divers are encouraged to make use of Resupply Strategems, rearming and re-equipping themselves with vital mission resources. However, divers should make note of what materials they have available before obtaining supplies. A single supply box will (roughly speaking) replenish half of maximum materials and ammunition. If divers are unsure if they should rearm with an additional supply box, they are encouraged to wait until the remainder of the squadron has received needed materials.
Addendum: Divers are also highly encouraged to make use of materials available on the battlefield instead of relying entirely on resupply strategems. The delay to replenish the strategem is a lengthy one.
On Strategem Request During Extraction:
Squadrons are permitted and encouraged to use strategems during extraction to show our enemies fearlessness and 'flash'. However, divers should take the utmost caution to time their strategem requests to reduce and minimize both friendly fire and failure to acquire research materials. Best practices are as follows:
This completes the field guide.

2024.04.28 22:25 Chemical_Scarcity556 I am planning on getting started in gunsmithing, and I am wondering about certain laws.

Okay, I have recently become interested in making my own firearms, and was wondering on the federal laws (and state laws for South Carolina) regarding making an internally suppressed gun, using completely custom ammunition, a completely custom lower, and a fully custom upper. I have zero intent to distribute or sell it in any way.
I thought it might be useful to mention all the specifications regarding the weapon. I preferably want it to be:
-Subsonic ammo, that is completely custom made, and is likely going to be similar to 22lr or 9mm ammo size, with penetration comparable to a .556 (I will be using a different type of chemical for propulsion for maximum penetration, which is not defined as a rocket).
-Internally and externally suppressed (I am looking to make a gun usable without any ear protection, and usable indoors)
-A long rifle (16in barrel)
-Semi automatic (Maybe full auto if im able to legally make one)
-3d printed or using wood (excluding the barrel and firing pin)
-Magazine size of 10+
If any other specifications are needed, I can provide them.

2024.04.28 21:37 Belisaruis1 [DEVELOPMENT] Farmer-Labour Party Holding Up Its Name

For the past few years the Progressive Party of Minnesota has been dictating policy via their centrist and hawkish attitude. They are the perfect middle ground party between the Republicans and the Farmer-Labourites. However, the Progressive push to increase industrial capacity for the production of war materials was capitalized by the FLP.
With the State Guard being established on January 1st of 1964, a final push for better heavy weapons is nearing adoption. The University of Minnesota's ROTC program and the School of Mechanical Engineering have been working together with Federal Ammunition to produce a new artillery piece and advanced in small arm support weapons. The 1964 pattern of weapons are already in field testing and show great promise.
However, the need for better techniques returns as the bottleneck for production. To that end, the FLP is providing a jobs-training program aimed at alleviating this shortcoming for the Minnesotan Arms Industry. The MAI will be the business collective that drives policy changes and coordinates with the Union Arsenals to make sure everything is done correctly and efficiently.
The Progressives welcomed such endeavours by the FLP, and in return offered to support increased electrification efforts for rural Minnesota. Even the Republicans were willing to back the proposal since many in that party have been shifting to the left as a necessity to get bills passed.
The final requirement was indicated by the Regional Council of the North Woods to have another arsenal planned for Duluth. Seeing as DSNY is already the principal naval and shipping for the Union, as well as the airfield atop Observation Hill in Duluth Heights, having the trifecta of an army base will complete the capacity of that area to provide the training and equipment for the State Guard.
As a nod to Greater Minnesota, which hasn't seen any military investment beyond anti-aircraft batteries, the next batch of arsenals will be located within their territory. The actions of the New Union of Iowa are concerning many residents and a desire to have military bases there is seen as a high priority once the current planning cycle ends.

Can't explain effect of layer height on 0.8mm nozzle temperature tower
Hello,
I'm trying to print a temperature tower in PLA with a 0.8mm brass nozzle on Revo 6 in a Prusa MK3S+. The temperature tower attempts shown below are printing the exact same STL (Except for a change on the size of the lettering and I'm also testing very slightly different temperature intervals in each case).
On the left side I was using Prusa's default setting for a 0.8mm nozzle wich implies a 0.9mm layer width and 0.4mm layer height. As you can see the result is pretty nasty.
On the right, I changed the layer height to 0.32mm (without touching Arachne's default 0.9mm width setting) and the results improved spectacularly. They've improved so much, that I'm even having trouble figuring out which is the best temperature, as they all look pretty good.
https://preview.redd.it/wag4036eg9xc1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac25a116e7108038853d48d5510f247ad09dac2a
I understood that the minimum ratio of width to height was 1.5, so in this case with a 0.9mm, as long as the layer height was below 0.6mm (=0.9/1.5), you would have enough "squish" and the filament extruded would be oval enough to print correctly.
Why is there such a massive difference in results when changing from 0.4mm to 0.32mm layer height?
Another detail of the left side
https://preview.redd.it/e1snblkig9xc1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b38c003c90bc78a9f0f21ace2f1bb75598df1a45
And of the right side
https://preview.redd.it/nw92bsnng9xc1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34c10b4cef142a44ee6826e94df1f121289d01d2
I'm not sure if the images capture it correctly, but the difference in quality is huge. Another alternative explanation to the 'squish' (ratio of extrusion width v.s layer height) would be that I'm maxing out the maximum volumetric flow rate of Revo 6's hotend. When looking at it in the slicer, it can be seen that the maximum volumetric rate is around 10-11mm^3/s, and the area's that look awfull are the overhangs which are outputting between 4 and 7 mm^3/s. Accodring to Revo's web page the maximum output for a brass revo nozzle of 0.8mm would be 17, so it's strange that it's hitting the limit...

Outrageous wishlist after 60h gameplay (reupload because i fu up)
Having a lot of fun!
It’s a great game, and even if they don’t make any fundamental changes, it could still become a 10/10 game. But. After 60 hours of gameplay
https://preview.redd.it/mmbxq73h58xc1.jpg?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22596ff878a6b0b3e591a70a69a5f16956b49606
and experimenting with various builds, I’ve concluded that weapon and combat encounters feel too similar. While I appreciate the cool animations and skill effects, including the sound design, the overall experience lacks diversity.
When it comes to enemy attacks, there are two types: those you can parry and those you cannot.(the parry mechanic itself is fun) And it doesn’t matter which weapon combination you’re wielding, it’s always the best strategy to parry those you can, as it allows you to gain focus and unleash a powerful damaging ability. I tried blocking, but it’s better to just parry. I played a whole playthrough with a claymore without using focus once, but I missed out on utility and big damage.
wishlist:
  • dont allow us to parry with every weapon
  • Provide various weapons with unique advantages that players can experiment with
Example list: (these advantages could also be integrated as enchantments or skill trees.)
  • Daggers deal bonus damage when attacking an enemy from behind
  • one-handed axes and maces are effective at damaging shields, allowing them to be broken
  • Two-handed axescould have a chance to trigger an execution animation when the enemy is on low life, similar to the backstab animation.(not interruptible)
  • Swords deal bonus damage to unarmored (fleshy)enemies.
  • Two-handed maces deal bonus damage to armored enemies.
  • attack with some Two handed weapons are not interruptible
  • and so on…
All of these things could also apply to enemies.
Ranged combat Another point is that the game is very melee-oriented. This further exacerbates the issue with combat diversity.
wishlist:
  • Introduce basic attacks for bows/crossbows.
  • Introduce ammunition (arrows, bolts) that can be crafted from materials like wood and feathers.
  • Introduce quivers and bolt bags as offhand options; they could determine how many arrows or bolts you can hold.
  • Make crossbows and bows distinct
Example:
  • Bow are light weight, attack fast and can crit
  • Crossbow are heavy, attack slow and can pierce
  • give them a reload (drawback) animation with a movement speed restriction(the same as when you’re using an item)
  • let projectiles fly slow
  • give enemies the ability to actively dodge and block projectiles
  • introduce enemy types that are particularly effective against ranged players.
Magic When I tried to play as a mage, I noticed that I was actually just spamming parry or focus potions the whole time. I think the focus system doesn’t work that well for magic.
wishlist :
  • give staves (not all) a basic free spell and a focus regeneration
  • introduce cast timing, damage numbers and animations that make sense in the context of combat pacing, ensuring that magic doesn’t become the easy route.
  • give enemies the ability to actively dodge and block spells
As we predicted, lots of people would prefer not having to do a bit of melee to then fire off ranged shots. AS A TEST, we’ll soon have the Ranger’s ‘Arrow’ ability cost a bunch of stamina instead of Focus so that true Archer-Classes will become viable. If that works out and people like it, we can do similar things for the Mage.- so this could fix it
Crafting
I would like to have more control over the enchantment system.
You can socket your gems into a window by the enchantress before you enchant an item
The sockets are in the shop(enchantress) not in the item, so before you enchant you have a slight controll over the outcome.
It’s the basic concept of the current PoE league mechanic (Necropolis) or a baby version of it.
The socket system on the item stays the same and it can still become purple or blue.
https://preview.redd.it/6jhbm2or58xc1.jpg?width=524&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=216e317ca7fef6b81197fa7e9dd160013df05628
Passive Skill Tree
Even if it’s just a small one, it tickles the ARPG spot in my brain when you know what I’m talking about. What could its purpose? To further specialize in class fantasy and unlock things that you don’t get anywhere else.
Resistances/ArmoAilments? There isn’t much clarification on how all of these work and how player and enemies benfits from them.
wishlist
  • Clarification if enemies have resistances or armor (and ways to penetrate those).
  • ways to play aliment builds like ignite, bleed
  • more info on how these work
Random wishlist:
  • dual wielding (They don’t need to make it so you can wield just every one-handed weapon with another. They could implement some pre-made sets, similar to how they do with dual daggers)
  • wands
  • unarmed damage scaling
  • claws
  • flails
  • minions
  • Of course more QoL
Please let me know what you think or if you had a similar experience.
I have great respect for the Devs, so if the feedback sounds harsh in any way, then I’m sorry it was not my intention. (English is not my native language.)
Greetings Fundue

2024.04.28 15:03 A_Wrong_Opinion Add a Top-Attack mode to the Spear

Add a Top-Attack mode to the Spear
The Spear, its namesake coming from the widely known Javelin, seems to be in dire need of an additional firing mode that mimics the advertisement. It'll also add a new element for the user to consider allowing the weapon to shine in destroying long-range targets with higher consistency.
Here's a really old video of a Javelin test for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIlROqW0fnc
Those keen-eared will notice that ArmA 2 actually reuses the same sound for their Javelin.
If one takes a look at the stratagem clip of the Spear, you can see that the missile doesn't start seeking the target upon being launched. It flies for a set distance before it begins turning, hitting the top or the rear of the tank turrets, resulting in a one-hit kill, something that the user is expected to see following a successful launch.
The current attack mode is what is called a "direct-attack trajectory". The missile is launcher and immediately heads towards the locked target. This is extremely useful when dealing with Bugs, specifically with Chargers and Titans. High-quality illustration for your pleasure.
The was the Spear works now
However, if some sort of obstacle is between the target and the missile, well... The results are as expected.
The downside of direct-attack mode
That's when this comes into play.
The "top-attack" target seeking mode is just how it sounds like. The missile gains height/altitude upon launch, and bears down on the target, hitting its weakly protected top armor. Refer to the youtube video posted earlier. This, of course, is largely useless against the Terminid menace, since their hides can take a beating, requiring the user to fire an additional missile. The Automatons, however, are extremely vulnerable.
https://preview.redd.it/zsmpnopbw7xc1.png?width=1091&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4f27d0a712cfd5b0d92b4c3d3e2589fe6609cc4
This, coupled with the fixing of the lock-on issues, will make the Spear an extremely valuable choice to consider before you start your dives.
Keep in mind that I'm suggesting this as an indirect way of making the Spear stand out. I'm not calling for a damage change, penetration change or ammunition capacity change.
Thoughts?

The EU Green coalition claims that the Green Deal is probably dead now, since conservatives are projected to make small gains in this June’s EU Parliamentary election.
Gullies are becoming more common across Brazil and several other South American states, a crisis worsened by climate change & deforestation. One coastal municipality in Brazil has seen 50+ homes eaten by new holes; 100+ families have been displaced there as well. The process happens when large quantities of rainfall, unable to be absorbed into the soil (because of overdevelopment & deforestation), run off, carrying the dirt away with it. In the Himalayas, glacial lakes are growing from the massive meltwater piling up in the mountains.
Climatologists believe this summer is going to break records for temperature and/or humidity, with a 70% chance. A study in npj climate and atmospheric science determined that AI holds great potential in forecasting future storms…An analysis of the November 2023 Storm Ciarán predicted its 48-hour trajectory with reasonable accuracy.
A dust storm blew into Athens from Africa, the worst such incident in 6 years. The images look like they’re straight out of a cli-fi movie—or from Mars.
Taiwan felt 6.3 magnitude aftershocks from its 7.3 earthquake 3 weeks earlier, rumbling buildings. Thailand [issued an extreme heat warning](https://phys.org/news/2024-04-heatstroke-thailand-year-kingdom.html) after temperatures surpassed 40 °C (104 °F) this week, with a heat index expected to break 52 °C (125 °F). In the first 108 days of the year, Thailand recorded 30 deaths from heatstroke—compare that with 37 in all of 2023. Meanwhile, the heat index in the Philippines hit 47 °C (117 °F), forcing the government to close thousands of schools; one scientist said there was a 50/50 chance it the heat worsening in the coming days. Drought in the Philippines got so bad that an old settlement, flooded by the construction of a 1970s dam, resurfaced after El Niño-aggravated Drought dropped reservoir levels.
The CDC and the U.S. National Weather Service released a new heat scale, with another color representing the most dangerous level of heat. You can search your zip code here to check for your heat alarm level. Meanwhile, the famed climate scientist Michael Mann is predicting the most storms on record this hurricane season, estimating 33 in total.
Water shortage in Scotland. Drought in Spain & Greece expands; one major Spanish wine company laid off 80% of its staff indefinitely because the vines are barely producing anything. In Thailand, sugar farms are drying up. In France, a strange kind of “last chance tourists” from all over are converging on the Alps to see once-epic glaciers before they’re gone forever… Europe, the fastest warming continent, is seeing more days of heat stress than ever before.
A study in Earth’s Future examined the effect of wildfires in Greater Siberia, and found that they are projected to create a cooling effect over part of the northern hemisphere, along with the more obvious: lowered air quality & economic damage.
The total area of oases across the world expanded from 1995-2020 by 220,000+ km² (85,000+ mi²)—an area larger than the size of the island Britain, or Japan’s largest island, Honshu. Most of this expansion was the result of artificial expansion. However, the study from Earth’s Future also says that the risk of desertification is quite high, owing to mismanagement of water resources.
Wildfires in British Columbia & Alberta, including dozens of carry-over fires from last year. Record night temperatures for April in parts of West Africa—Chad even tied its hottest day in history with 48 °C (118 °F). Six countries in southeastern Asia recorded their hottest April night temps. Türkiye felt its hottest day ever in April last week: 39.2 °C (102.5 °F). Drought in Mexico is causing conflict between subsistence farmers and the cartel-linked avocado plantations. Sea surface temperatures remain at record highs for this time of year.
A 14-page article in Science Advances claims that deep sea troughs ferrying circumpolar deep water (CDW) (often warmer & saltier) to the undersides of ice shelves is causing concerning levels of melt. Making the problem worse is an upwelling of an ice shelf’s newly melted freshwater, which rises and pulls the salty water upwards. The study summary explains better, and warns that this feedback loop may reduce the stability of our ice shelves, leading to their Collapse. Some experts are proposing a large geoengineering attempt, spraying aerosols in the stratosphere atop ice shelves within the next 25 years—although they warn such efforts will not be productive unless they are also accompanied by massive CO2 emissions reductions.
Anchovies traditionally found in the Mediterranean have been detected off the Irish coast—about 750,000,000 of them—and scientists are baffled. They say that rising ocean temperatures are probably not enough to attribute this habitat change, since fewer than 150,000,000 anchovies were detected in those waters four years ago.
South Africa & Namibia saw record autumn temperatures. Flooding in Mauritius forced the shutdown of many banks & offices, and flooding worsened in East Africa, where 90+ have been killed by storms in the last fortnight. Tobacco plantations in Uganda killed off the usual animal food sources, forcing local species to eat virus-thick feces...yes, really. Meanwhile, one of the largest mountains of trash in India has been on fire for a few days, spewing toxic fumes into the atmosphere; and it’s still growing by 2,000 tons of garbage every day.
NASA released before & after images from Dubai’s historic flooding.
Foreign diseases & pests are damaging EU agriculture—some 70 new threats each year. In Botswana, Drought is evaporating muddy ponds, trapping hippos; those which escape, desperately thirsty, become aggressive and invade nearby villages.
Over Antarctica, the ozone hole is stretching into December, the start of summer—and the breeding season. Scientists say the exposure to extra radiation is affecting the eyesight of animals, and may threaten their general health. They also blame Australian wildfires for the longer-lasting ozone hole.

Drinking water in Bangladesh is being poisoned by rising salinity in drinking water. Women are especially affected, particularly pregnant women, who suffer complications resulting from malnutrition, hypertension, menstrual interference, and more.
Residents of an old neighborhood in Ethiopia were given 5 days notice before demolition—ostensibly to rebuild a modern city center……including a $10B (USD) palace complex. Standardized test scores in the UK are at appalling lows—a result blamed, myopically, mostly on COVID school closures.
A study summary from the UK claims that 28% of COVID survivors will develop some form of Long COVID—25% of those will experience brain fog, and 75% some form of depression and/or anxiety. Examinations into the variant of COVID which infected an old Dutch man—and persisted in his body for 613 days—found that the COVID strain mutated into a new immuno-evasive strain inside his body…before killing him.
A 75-page report from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) concluded that migration has now rebounded completely from its COVID dip. The U.S. FDA announced that food recalls hit a new high in 2023, the most since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scientists claim bird flu was in cows last year, probably. The U.S. FDA also announced that traces of bird flu were found in pasteurized milk—some 20% of samples—but the milk is still safe to drink. Nevertheless, the USDA is doing ongoing milk testing, albeit less than they first promised. The spread of Asian tiger mosquitoes farther northward in Europe portends the spread of malaria and dengue fever to areas where it has never before reached.
Shadow banking relates to non-bank lenders: mostly private investors, and unregulated institutions. Shadow banking is supposedly a $63 trillion (USD) problem worldwide—and the shadow real estate market in South Korea has central banks concerned. Delinquency rates are up, and shadow banking in real estate totals almost $7 trillion (USD). The Bank of England is warning about massive job losses if trends in shadow banking turn sour. Commodity prices worldwide are supposedly going to drop slightly, but inflation will remain.
In Scotland, rising numbers of youths are smoking marijuana. Across Great Britain, child alcohol abuse has become a serious problem; the UK has the highest rate worldwide, according to the collected data. In France, youth curfews have been imposed to keep unaccompanied children under age 13 off the street—more for the safety of adults than the kids.

Two Malaysian helicopters collided mid-air, killing 10. The UK once again vowed to move forward with deporting migrants to Rwanda this summer. Protestors clashed with police in Venice over a modest €5 fee to enter the historic city on the front lines of climate change. Espionage against Germany, by Russia and China, is growing—or at least being identified.
Haiti continues to get worse as famine continues eating away at the population. 90% of Port-Au-Prince lives under control of the gangs; the other 10% lives under fear of gang expansion. Gangs forced the stop of the unloading of fuel at a port terminal on Monday so they could better wield their fuel as leverage. Haiti’s new transitional council has been sworn in, but is impotent on arrival.
Rebel groups in Sudan, including but not limited to the RSF, attacked 11 settlements in Darfur, following an old anti-black pattern practiced by the Janjaweed. In addition to potentially thousands of lives lost, the traumas of War threaten to perpetuate generational tensions from which new conflicts could sprout. A city that once held half a million people (many of whom were themselves displaced earlier) was razed and the people scattered or killed. And barely a peep of this makes the weekly news…
In Balochistan, a large region of Pakistan, an insurgency is growing, targeting Pakistani security forces and Chinese workers. Killings and IED detonations are said to be reported almost every day. Recruitment into the terror group, several thousand members, has been increased in response to the government’s militarized approach to counterinsurgency. Years of somewhat porous borders have also allowed abandoned American weapons to transit from Afghanistan into the region, empowering rebels.
US-Philippines military drills began the biggest ever between the two nations. Hundreds of people are flowing into Thailand from Myanmar every day, many of them wounded by the heavy-handed ruling junta forces. “This is the worst in my time in 35 years here,” one doctor said of the spike in patients. The junta is becoming so desperate that they are trying to draft Muslim Rohingyas into their forces, some of the very people they attacked, and denied citizenship to, several years ago.
Donald Trump is building a team of China hawks for his potential cabinet, and allegedly planning a more aggressive stance towards China, should he return to power. Reports emerged that, on the day Iran launched 300+ drones against Israel, a simultaneous crackdown began in Iran against women flouting the country’s strict hijab laws. More details are emerging about a massacre in Burkina Faso from February: “They separated men and women in groups…As we started moving forward, they opened fire on us indiscriminately,” said one survivor.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights announced the discovery of mass graves at two hospitals in Gaza—”buried deep in the ground and covered with waste.” An official from the United Nations announced that clearing all the rubble and unexploded bombs from Gaza could take 14 years. And the War isn’t over yet. A growing number of analysts say War against Hezbollah is inevitable as both sides have recently escalated strikes over their 130 km (81 mi) border barrier, the so-called Blue Line.
Hundreds of student protestors were arrested across a number of universities, demanding the institutions divest from Israeli corporations, and generally opposing Israel’s actions in Gaza. Hundreds of thousands of students in Argentina protested against cuts to universities.
Ukraine suspended consular services for some men aged 18-60 living outside Ukraine, as part of a pressure campaign to get them back to Ukraine, where they can be conscripted. Russia warned that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, threatening an unspecified retaliation if Ukraine’s allies seize the roughly $300B frozen assets formerly under Russia’s control. On the battlefield, momentum is moving against Ukraine, although small victories remain. Ukraine is pulling back its Abrams tanks because Russian drones are too easily taking out the tanks. Five of the thirty-one $10M-apiece tanks provided in September have been destroyed so far. Reports emerged that the U.S. sent long-range ATACMS to Ukraine secretly; the ballistic missiles can strike targets up to 300 km away. Ammunition for Patriot systems is now being rushed to Ukraine.
Russia vetoed a resolution to ban the use of nuclear weapons in space. Worldwide, defense spending hit new all-time highs in 2023—about $2.44 trillion USD. (The U.S. accounts for $850B of that total.)
Amnesty International released its enormous, 418-page State of the World’s Human Rights Report for 2023, with 155 country-specific rundowns of selected human rights violations. Search for your own country and judge for yourself how accurate their report is. The general worldwide picture is one of regression to old norms and the breakdown of international law.
“...authoritarian policies ate away at freedoms of expression and association, hit out at gender equality, and eroded sexual and reproductive rights. The underlying public narratives, based in hatred and rooted in fear, encroached on civic space and demonized marginalized individuals…Climate activists were branded “terrorists” for denouncing governments expanding fossil fuel production and investment…States turned increasingly to facial recognition technologies to aid policing of public protests…in Afghanistan, being a woman or a girl has been de facto criminalized…To be a Palestinian in Gaza today is to be plunged to a far more violent and destructive version of the 1948 Nakba...Russia’s aggression has continued to manifest itself in deliberate attacks against civilians, the killing of thousands, and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure…” -selections from the executive summary

-There will (probably) be signs before SHTF—so say these comments in a thread about horizon scanning a doomsday event. But for some crises, like earthquakes, they spring up suddenly and unexpectedly. This is the very nature of an emergency.
-Household financial troubles are mounting, getting a decent job is nigh-impossible, everyone is coughing, demoralized people are throwing away their lives, trust is gone, most people seem exhausted, and there’s bird flu in the milk—says this essay-length weekly observation from the United States.

147 gr Federal Syntech jamming/feeding issues?
I'm running 147 gr 9mm Federal Syntech training match (purple synthetic jacket, truncated cone/flat nose style) for practice, to run the 150gr match ammo (red jacket) in my Limited Master Xtreme. Using factory magazines with Graham's springs/followers and Patriot Defense extended base pads. My chamber was full length reamed when new by PD as well.
Occasionally I am getting jams, where the bullet is coming up too step and jamming into the top of the chamber, and other times where it is jamming into the feed ramp. Both scenarios it is scarring the jacket. It seems to happen once in a magazine, after 3 or 4 shots, but not every time. Issue occurred across 3 different magazines.
I have somewhere around 1500 rounds through the gun thus far. It had been shooting 115gr and 124gr plated round nose, mix of Blazer and some Czech manufactured ammo. The RN never had this issue and fed 100% reliable. I wanted to try the Syntech because it promised cleaner running. I shoot 124gr RN major loads in my CZ Parrot open gun as well, no issues there. That gun has been picky with JHP loads in the past.
Was curious if others have run into this issue, and any possible insight to cause and resolution? Might I benefit from some polishing?
I have a 1911 that didn't feed HP ammo reliably and my gunsmith modified the feed ramp angle slightly to overcome that issue - wondering if the same might be needed here...
I have 750 rounds of the purple and 450 rounds of the red left. I have a steel plate match next weekend, but might go back to running 124gr RN Blazer to play it safe.
Eager to hear from those who have been down this path before me.
Thanks in advance!
