2024.05.16 15:05 durustakta Toshiba Canvio Basics crashes Finder
Hi folks, submitted by durustakta to datarecovery [link] [comments] I have a Toshiba Canvio Basics 3TB (model HDTB330EK3CB) that’s giving signs of dying and I’d like to salvage its contents (there’s lots of photographs that I’m not sure I have backed up on another drive). This is a terrible drive. It didn’t work too well from the beginning and I should have returned it when I could, but that ship sailed years ago. For context, I run it on Mac Sonoma 14 (I tried on Windows too with no success) and the files should be Ex-FAT, although its info states that they’re on APFS format (even though I’ve never switched to it): https://preview.redd.it/cfflw6y1es0d1.png?width=524&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e9ee77b46882c11062e41e820cf5314c00a40f0 https://preview.redd.it/okemeyd4es0d1.png?width=1168&format=png&auto=webp&s=dbf29d3c20c74f80f9da88187659ec706f3b65c0 Around two months ago, it started not showing up on my desktop. You could hear the drive spinning and some light whirring sound inside but I could not access it. After cleaning the metal part of the cable, it ended up working correctly and I could work with it. This is when I should have backed it all up, I know. A couple of weeks ago, the problem came back although I haven’t been able to access the drives’ files this time. I tried using a powered hub but it didn’t work. I tried using a new cable and the drive finally showed up on my desktop but Finder couldn’t read its files, it stated it was “Loading” for a couple of hours but I couldn’t see the files. I tried running Disk Manager but it crashed (both in regular and safety mode). I’m not sure about the next step I should take and I don't want to connect it much to avoid potential damage to the files. The APFS thing is bugging me and I guess that could be the key. My current goal is accessing files, backing them all up and not trusting this drive ever again. What should I do next? I’m lost about the next steps I should take without damaging the drive (and more importantly, its files). Thank you all for your help! |

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre does her best to tackle tough economic questions from reporters. Biden says the economy is great, and the polls have been “wrong all along”. To be honest, I'm skeptical about polls too. I don't believe 40% of people have seen bigfoot, angels, flying saucers, or the loch ness monster. I never believed Hillary was going to win in landslide in 2016. I don't believe Bitcoin is going to hit $1MM and will ensure that I have a comfortable retirement. Polls about the economy aren't actually based on data. They're based on personal opinions of the people being polled. And when the White House says "the polls are wrong”, they're telling us that we're mistaken about everything. Spiraling housing prices. Mall vacancies. Gasoline. Homeless encampments. Epic narcotics overdoses. If you see ANY of these things near where YOU live, you're hallucinating. If they're not visible from the windows of the oval office, they're not real. (see link below). Biden, of course, is certainly not the first president to be insulated from reality. Jimmy Carter famously told Americans put on a sweater, turn down the thermostat, and use daylight savings time year-round to tame energy prices. LBJ sent 100,000 troops to Vietnam, and Nixon doubled down on that. FDR arrested every Japanese citizen in America, and sent them all to desert concentration camps. The White House press secretary (Karine Jean-Pierre) recently had to walk back claims in a Biden campaign speech that he inherited an economy with 9% inflation. Actually, the inflation rate was 1.4% on inauguration day. It didn't reach 9% until 18 months later. This is the sort of gaffe which campaign advisors are desperate to avoid in the upcoming June 27th debate. On the other hand, Trump's campaign staff is probably hoping he doesn't have to participate via Zoom, from behind bars. If anyone is interested in legitimate data, instead of polls, the CPI inflation gauge (which does NOT include proportionate representation of homes, gasoline, and food) shows that since inauguration day prices are 20% higher. Yeah, actual economists totaled up all the numbers from each month since January 6, 2021. But without home prices, which are up nearly 50%. I'm shocked – shocked I tell you! - that both the Biden and Trump campaign teams agreed to a debate before the conventions even take place. These are old men, easily confused, and detached from reality. Trump gazes out on the world from Mar A Largo, Biden from the Oval Office. This is going to be must see TV. Apparently, someone is expecting the other guy to commit a fatal gaffe. Or have a fatal heart attack. If this is going to happen, let's find out before the party conventions, okay? I'm just sayin' . . . ~Opinion: Biden has become detached from economic reality (msn.com)~ |

Research Before You TravelBefore embarking on your journey, it's always a good idea to research the current exchange rates in Delhi. Visit reliable financial websites or consider using currency exchange apps to stay updated. This knowledge will give you a benchmark and help you avoid unfavorable exchange rates.2. Compare Exchange RatesNot all money changers offer the same rates. Take the time to compare exchange rates from different providers in Delhi. Look for authorized money changers who offer competitive rates and low commission fees. This extra step can save you a significant amount of money.3. Avoid Airport Currency ExchangesWhile it may be convenient to exchange your money at the airport, you'll usually find better rates elsewhere. Airport currency exchange services often charge higher commission fees due to their prime locations and limited competition. Consider exchanging a small amount for immediate expenses and find a reputable money changer in the city for the bulk of your currency exchange.4. Be Aware of Hidden FeesSome currency exchange providers may charge additional fees that aren't immediately apparent. Read the fine print and ask about any hidden fees or commission charges before making your exchange. It's essential to calculate the overall cost so you can accurately compare rates between different money changers.5. Use Local CurrencyWhen you're traveling in Delhi, it's always better to use the local currency, which is the Indian Rupee (INR). While your home currency may be accepted in some places, you might get unfavorable exchange rates and hidden surcharges. Plus, using local currency offers a more authentic travel experience.6. Be Wary of Counterfeit CurrencyWhile Delhi has reputable money changers, it's essential to be cautious and avoid counterfeit currency. Stick to authorized money changers or banks to ensure the authenticity of your exchanged notes. Remember to count your money and double-check for counterfeit security features before leaving the exchange booth.7. Carry Multiple Payment OptionsWhile cash is necessary for certain transactions, it's wise to carry multiple payment options. Consider having a mix of cash, debit cards, and credit cards. This way, you'll have backup options in case of emergencies or if your primary payment method is not accepted. However, be mindful of foreign transaction fees if you decide to use your cards abroad.8. Stay Vigilant During the ExchangeWhen exchanging your money, always stay vigilant and guard your personal information. Avoid exchanging money in crowded places or with individuals who seem untrustworthy. Keep an eye on the exchange rate and the total amount you're receiving to ensure accuracy.9. Consider Prepaid Travel CardsPrepaid travel cards are a convenient alternative to carrying too much cash. These cards allow you to load multiple currencies onto a single card and offer competitive exchange rates. Additionally, they provide security features and savings on foreign transaction fees. Research different options and choose a prepaid travel card that suits your needs.Insider Secrets for Maximizing Your Travel BudgetNow that you have some currency exchange hacks up your sleeve, let's explore insider secrets for maximizing your travel budget. Public transportation not only saves you money but also gives you a glimpse into the daily lives of Delhi's residents.4. Visit Free AttractionsDelhi is home to several iconic landmarks and attractions that you can visit for free. Immerse yourself in the city's history and culture by exploring places like India Gate, Qutub Minar, and Lotus Temple. These landmarks offer opportunities for stunning photographs and memorable experiences without spending a dime.5. Blend in with the LocalsWhen traveling, try to blend in with the locals to avoid inflated prices targeted at tourists. Dress modestly, learn a few basic phrases in Hindi, and observe local customs. By immersing yourself in the local culture, you'll gain a more authentic experience and often find better deals.6. Travel During Off-Peak SeasonsIf possible, consider traveling to Delhi during off-peak seasons when accommodation and flight prices are lower. Avoid major holidays and peak tourist periods to save money on transportation and accommodation expenses. Plus, you'll enjoy exploring the city without dealing with overwhelming crowds.7. Bargain SmartlyBargaining is a common practice in Delhi markets, and it can be a fun way to score great deals. However, remember to bargain responsibly and respect the seller's livelihood. Aim for a fair price and maintain a friendly attitude during the process. Bargaining is all about finding a win-win situation.Travel Money Exchange TipsLet's wrap up our insider secrets with a few additional travel money exchange tips that will enhance your experience in Delhi:1. Keep Small Denomination NotesWhile larger denomination notes are convenient for certain expenses, it's always a good idea to carry small denomination notes as well. Small notes come in handy for street vendors, public transportation, and smaller establishments that may not have change for larger bills.2. Notify Your Bank and Credit Card ProvidersPrior to your trip to Delhi, inform your bank and credit card providers about your travel plans. This way, they won't flag your transactions as suspicious, and you can use your cards without any issues. Additionally, inquire about any foreign transaction fees or card usage restrictions that may apply.3. Stay Alert for Currency Conversion ScamsWhile rare, currency conversion scams can occur. Be cautious of individuals who offer attractive exchange rates on the street or in touristy areas. Stick to authorized money changers or banks to ensure that you're getting the genuine rate without falling victim to scams. With these insider secrets, currency exchange hacks, and travel money exchange tips, you're well-equipped to navigate the world of money exchange in Delhi. Within the Photos app, deleted pictures are moved to the “ Recently Deleted ” album where they stay for 30 days before permanent removal. To restore, simply select the desired photo(s) and press “ Recover “. The chronological library and the ability to sort into albums make managing and retrieving your photos straightforward. https://preview.redd.it/z14psipnsr0d1.png?width=767&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5261d684dee6e2963efb3bffe392a3fdc64682d Utilizing Photo Booth for Recovery In instances where you’ve used Photo Booth —a camera application that comes standard with macOS—deleted photos might be recoverable if they were recently removed. Check the app’s library for thumbnails of saved images, as they may still be present. Although recovery options within Photo Booth are limited, the thumbnails provide a quick visual reference for recently captured images that may have been deleted elsewhere on your system. https://preview.redd.it/af9f9d9osr0d1.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=a0ff202570887440442bc840b0964a0c2a923a92 Third-party apps/serviceThird-Party Data Recovery SoftwareWhen built-in options fall short, Mac users can turn to third-party software such as Undeleter , Disk Drill or PhotoRec for more robust recovery capabilities. These applications perform deep scans and can often recover files that are no longer visible to the user. They operate on the principle of file signatures, allowing them to identify various data types, including photos, and attempt to restore them. Remember to halt all use of the storage device immediately after data loss to prevent overwriting your deleted files. https://preview.redd.it/8h9qn95psr0d1.png?width=875&format=png&auto=webp&s=1439161ffe9afca04fd1f6eb5d2bcb76b1411311 Professional Data Recovery Services If all software-based methods fail to yield results, and the photos are irreplaceable, seeking professional data recovery services may be the next step. Despite being more expensive, these services provide specialized recovery techniques, particularly in cases of physical damage to storage media, offering the highest probability of retrieval for your valuable memories.
For iPhone/iPad usersUnderstanding the “Recently Deleted” AlbumOn an iPhone, deleted photos first move to the “Recently Deleted” album within the Photos app. They remain there for 30 days, providing an immediate recovery option without the need for additional software. During this period, you can simply select the photos and tap “Recover” to restore them back to your main library. https://preview.redd.it/jvce0weqsr0d1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=11e8d7c52018ef08109e174f56982154e104238a
When the “Recently Deleted” album is no longer an option, specialized software like Renee iPhone Recovery , Dr. Fone, iMyFone Data Recovery, and PhoneRescue can help. These tools attempt to recover lost data from deep within the iPhone’s storage. Although results can vary, many of these programs offer a preview feature to identify recoverable photos before purchase. Recovering from Other Devices and Cloud Services If third-party tools fail, check if the lost photos exist on other synced devices such as an iPad or a Mac . Cloud services like iCloud are also worth exploring, as they may have automatically backed up your photos. Additionally, images shared on social platforms may serve as an inadvertent backup.
While professional data recovery services can sometimes salvage photos that software cannot, they come at a significant cost and with no success guarantees. Such services should be a last resort, typically for irreplaceable photos, and it’s advisable to inquire about the likelihood of recovery before committing. For Android Devices EfficientlyIn today’s digital age, we use our smartphones to capture and store our precious memories in the form of photos. But what happens when we accidentally delete these photos? Thankfully, there are ways to retrieve them on Android devices efficiently. In this chapter, we will guide you through several methods to recover deleted photos on your Android device.Step 1: Check Your Google Photos Trash If you use Google Photos to back up your photos, then your deleted photos may still be in the trash for up to 60 days. To check, open the Google Photos app, tap on the three lines in the top left corner, and select “ Trash ” from the menu. If your photos are in the trash, tap on them and select “ Restore “. This will move the photos back to your main library. https://preview.redd.it/nsm726tssr0d1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&s=f4c2f1726e0779954978bdbc5e168de91421c1de Step 2: Use Your Device’s Gallery App If you have deleted a photo from Google Photos, but it’s still on your device, then you can use your device’s gallery app to delete it. Simply open the gallery app, find the photo, and delete it. This will permanently remove the photo from your device. Step 3: Try OneDrive Recycle Bin If you have OneDrive backup set up on your Android device, then you can try recovering your deleted photos from the recycle bin. To do so, follow these steps:
If you have photos stored on an SD card and they have been deleted, you can try recovering them by removing the SD card from your device and connecting it to a computer. You will need a card reader to do this. Step 5: Use Data Recovery Software If all else fails, you can try using data recovery software to retrieve your deleted photos on your Android device. There are many options available, but do thorough research and choose a reputable and reliable software to use.
Recovering Lost Memories from Digital Cameras StorageStorage media like SD cards are indispensable for digital cameras but can succumb to many forms of data loss, such as accidental deletion or card corruption. Water, heat, and even seemingly innocuous actions like ejecting the card during a write process can compromise the integrity of the data. For instance, exposure to moisture not only risks electronic failure but can also lead to data corruption, affecting the stored images on the SD card .Immediate Response to Data Loss When data loss is detected, the initial response is critical. Ceasing all operations on the digital camera’s storage device is paramount. Users should avoid capturing new images or attempting to access the card with other devices, which can lead to overwriting the lost data, rendering it irrecoverable, data only appear to be gone but are actually waiting to be overwritten. Preventive Measures: Tips to Avoid Future Photo Loss and Secure Your MemoriesWhile it’s great to have methods for recovering deleted photos, it’s always better to not lose them in the first place. The recovery process may not always be successful, and it’s time-consuming. To avoid the stress of lost images, here are some preventive measures you can take:Step 1: Regularly Back Up Your Photos Protect your memories by regularly backing up photos using built-in utilities, third-party tools, or cloud services. Choose a weekly or monthly schedule and promptly back up new images after events or before system updates. Windows users can use File History, and Mac users can use iCloud for security. Step 2:Create multiple partitions. Organize photos into dedicated folders or create separate partitions on your storage device to minimize accidental formatting and allow space for backups, enhancing photo protection. You can use Disk Utility on Macs to create multiple partitions on your external hard drive. Step 3:Never write new photos to the same place as lost images. If you’ve accidentally deleted photos, it’s important to stop using the device or storage media that contained the lost files. This is because the data is still physically on the device until it is overwritten. If you continue to use the device, you risk overwriting or corrupting the lost files, making it difficult to recover them. If you’ve accidentally deleted photos from your camera’s SD card, remove the card and do not use it until you’ve attempted the recovery process. Step 4:Auto-upload photos to the cloud. Many devices have the option to automatically send your photos to the cloud, providing a backup that extends beyond your device. This eliminates the need for manual backups and offers additional storage space through your cloud provider. Popular services like Google Photos and iCloud make it easy to store and access your photos. You can enable auto-upload for your photos on your iPhone through the iCloud settings. ConclusionPhotographs are precious memories, and losing them to deletion or technical issues can be devastating. Our guide helps you recover lost photos from various devices, explaining the “recently deleted” folder and providing step-by-step recovery instructions for Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, and digital cameras. We highlight tools like Renee Undeleter for easier recovery and offer tips for backing up and managing files to protect your photos.
