Let's talk Japanese music. The goal is to be as far-reaching as possible, so that we can all share in our knowledge of the best music that Japan has to offer. Maybe you're a fan of classic rock? Or hip-hop? Contemporary pop? Traditional music? Noise and other experiments? You name it: we're interested.

Strange Song in Music Files
One day, I grabbed my old phone and started just scrolling through all the media in it, then I went to audio files and scrolled around, found a lot of good music I used to listen to, then I found something that caught my eye, a song called "A_DASTARDLY_DEAL", never heard of this song in my life, dunno what it is, much less how it even got in my phone considering the logs for audio downloads never showed up for it, it's only a nigh close to 2 minute long song, I tried looking in Google and YT for it but nothing came up, I linked the song in file mail since it's an OGG, do you know where it's from?

2024.05.15 15:48 Ill-Atmosphere4609 New to music production, where to start?

Regarding my musical background, I have been playing piano, from 6 years, I have great knowledge of music theory and I play guitar too. I have been using fl studio from past 1-2 years, but only to edit audio for my covers and merging sounds, I bought a cheap course from udemy long ago and learnt the basic structure of fl studio and how things work, nothing too serious, but I recently got a new laptop when I turned 16 and I want to learn music production and sound design seriously, I write few stuff in sheet-music, I have the image of how the song would be like, but I am not skilled enough to implement it. I downloaded a few paid kontakt libraries and serum for sound design, but I don't know how should I continue further, should I watch YouTube videos, write notes on what I learnt, which topics should I learn? Should I buy a course? Help me out please, thanks!

2024.05.15 15:46 Lucky_Cranberry7325 Audio ducking / TAKE AUDIO FOCUS on Duolingo App

Hi everybody.
I just wanna post something about how to disable audio ducking or audio focus on Duolingo app. This function is when you are listening to music and the audio lowers the volume of the song for notifications and etc. But duolingo also does that...
Some people presented a solution with apps, but it didn't work for me with a Motorola device.
What I did is a little bit biased towards developers, so please pardon me for difficult language.
I downloaded the SDK Platform Tools from Android Developers. There's a command line tool called ADB inside the package.
Then I followed the sequence below:
In your windows, open the CMD (command prompt) from windows start menu. Go to the directory where you put your file, example you put it in a folder Temp in C: drive (commands in bold font): C:\USER\> CD\ C:\> CD TEMP C:\TEMP\> CD ANDROID_TOOLS C:\TEMP\ANDROID_TOOLS\> ADB DEVICES
Now it will show devices attached indicating that it is connected to your cellphone The following command will change the command line to something like manaus$:, where you can access some content of your phone. The commands will be in bold font.
C:\TEMP\ANDROID_TOOLS\> ADB SHELL manaus$: cmd appops set com.duolingo TAKE_AUDIO_FOCUS ignore manaus$: exit C:\TEMP\ANDROID_TOOLS\> EXIT
Now you can turn off the USB debugging mode and the developer mode on your cellphone and restart the device.
For me it worked like a breeze and now I can listen to music while doing the duolingo lessons (my motorola device can turn off the audio volume of specific apps, so I turn off duolingo app sound and keep the rest on.

2024.05.15 15:28 H0LEESHiET Please help me find the song from my childhood

Looking for a DnB/Jungle track probably from the early 00s’ The song starts with muted low pass beat, as if we were outside the club, then we hear the door opens and the beat sounds normal from there, also there is a lyric line “my boy was gangsta” …i remember I downloaded it from some obscure website with edm mp3s. The sound of the track was kinda similar to Dub Phizix with these dry choppy beats… and thats all I remember ;)
I tried chatgpt 4o and no luck.
Im thinking of this track for about 20 years now and its getting annoying ;p
internet, pls do your thing ;D

So buying the game I was under the impression we could use our own songs to install into the game. And I can see the folder in game to find music but now I need to know. How do I get music ONTO the Meta Quest 3 in order to use them in Powerbeatsvr? I assume I’ll need to plug it into my laptop and have already downloaded songs to transfer but is there anything I’m missing? I’m from the 90’s so I’m no stranger to downloading and burning discs, transferring to usb sticks and mp3 players etc but I don’t know if the meta needs a partition making or anything and don’t wanna mess up any internal files 🙈🤦🏻

2024.05.15 11:58 Bostonit4 Which is better free version YTM or Spotify?

I’ve been using Spotify free for like 8-9 years and I downloaded YTM to just look at it and so far I’m able to skip everything and play anything I want with no ads or restrictions. I’m sure this isn’t meant to be this way so what I’m asking is how is the free version of YTM music compared to Spotify? On Spotify you only get 6 skips and you get ads like every 3-4 songs.

2024.05.15 10:47 Unapedra Guide: CH in Steam Deck and setting up a Wii guitar (for newbies as me)

My Steam Deck arrived a few days ago, and I've been able to configure everything pretty nicely. However, there have been some points in which I've struggled a bit and I've spent some time searching for the answer, so I hope I can sum everything up here for any new Steam Deck Clone Hero players.
Everything I'll explain here is posted on the internet, so you could find it on your own, but having no previous experience with Steam Deck (nor Linux) has made some things harder than I expected, so I hope it helps!

Installing Clone Hero

This really has no mistery. I followed this video on Youtube, but basically the steps to follow are:
  1. Put Steam Deck in Desktop mode (hold Steam button > Power > Switch to Desktop).
  2. Open your browser (you'll have to install it first, if you haven't yet) and go to Clone Hero page.
  3. Click Download and it will download the Linux version.
  4. Extract the downloaded package in your Downloads folder, and then move it wherever you want it to be (SD card or Home directory).

Adding it as a Non-Steam Game

You can select the clonehero executable file in the folder you just extracted, and right click (L2 button) and select "Add to Steam".
If it gives you an error, you will have to execute it first from Desktop mode (just tap into it and let the game load). After that, close the game and try again, and there should be no issues.
Keep in mind that you will need to press Start and select Guest player to be able to control the game, for example, to be able to select "Quit game".

Installing custom songs: using Bridge in Steam Deck

Your default songs folder will be at Home directory, inside .clonehero folder (make sure to "display hidden files" in your folder settings), in a folder called Songs. You can download your songs and move the downloaded song's folder in there.
My recommendation is to create a folder called Custom Songs there, just in case you want to download songs from older GH games (this way, you can sort them later by Playlist/Folder and keep everything organized by game or path).
Bridge is one of the best additions for your CH installation. If you want to use it, just go to their releases page and download the AppImage file.
Once downloaded, you'll be able to execute it in Desktop mode (it's not possible to execute it as a non-steam game, since it will open the "game" but it will not load anything, at least in my case). There, make sure to go to the Settings inside Bridge and set your songs path to the Custom Songs folder, so everything you download goes there.
Everytime you add new songs, you'll have to go to your CH settings and hit "Scan songs" for they to appear in the game.
I'm currently trying to set an additional path folder for songs inside CH settings, so I can set a folder with songs in the external microSD card, which will make it easier to manage my songs in my PC in stead of the Steam Deck, but I don't know if this will work. I'll update this once I know.

But you want all your old GH games' songs, don't you?

In the right bar of this sub you have an Excel with the links to all the packages containing all the songs for old GH (and RB) games. However, they are quite a few, and most of them give a "quota exceeded" error. In PC, it might be easy to solve. For Steam Deck, well, it isn't so straight forward.
However, you can find this post where a user wrapped all the songs from all GH games in one single (50GB) zip file. It's not perfect, it has some duplicates, but it's just Download > Extract > Select what games you want to have in your CH > Move to your .clonehero/Songs folder.
It may give you an error when trying to unzip it: it's because Ark's settings (the software used to decompress files). You'll have to open the Ark software on its own, go to settings and disable "Libzip" from the plugins selected. Then you'll be able to extract everything without issues.

Configuring your Wii guitar to play

(First, make sure to leave Desktop mode by pressing the "Return to Gaming mode" in your desktop)
This is where my nightmare kicked in. I connected my Wiimote to the Steam Deck via Bluetooth (Steam Deck menu > Bluetooth) by hitting the red sync button in the controller and... it connected but it was not working.
Furthermore, connecting it with the guitar made it completely useless, unable to even map the buttons, and even worse, the only thing working was the "strum up", which opened the Steam menu. Not good.
If you're having problems with it, just follow these steps. Apart from the Steam Input interface, you can actually overwrite your controller native mapping in the Steam Deck menu > Controllers section.
If you connected your guitar with your Wiimote, you may see two Wii controlllers appear: one is for the guitar, the other is for the Wiimote alone. I recommend you to change the Guitar controller's name in this page (connect and disconnect the Wiimote from the guitar to guess which one is which).
You don't actually need to map the exact same buttons as the ones mentioned in the link, just make sure to register the following buttons inputs to a "logical" key (where they will have sense):
Once you have your "A" button mapped, you will be able to skip any other inputs you don't want to register by pressing that same "A" button you just mapped.
And now you will be able to open CH, however, nothing will work, because you haven't mapped your controller in game (yet).

Mapping your guitar keys ingame

With your guitar turned on, grab your Steam Deck and press the Steam button + X. This will open the keyboard, and then you can press the Space bar to open the mapping menu.
Now press the "Assign controller" button (for me, I can do this only with the touchscreen) and hit any button in your guitar. This will change to your guitar as main controller.
If you cannot do any of these, it may be because you haven't selected a player. Start the game with a normal controller, press Start, select Guest, and then repeat the steps above.
And now, just click the keys you want to map and press the corresponding guitar buttons (you should make sure to map the controls described in the previous step).
Once you finish, just hit "Done", and that's it! You can already play to CH in your Steam Deck!
I hope this guide is not too complicated. I know this is a very simple process that anyone can do, but I hope it can help someone if they struggle with some steps of it.
Have fun playing and remembering old times!

2024.05.15 10:21 TheDarkWeb697 My app keeps on downloading songs that It thinks I'll like?

I think it's called the offline mixtape. How do I stop it from doing this? It's downloading roughly 150 a time which is taking up all of my storage from all of the songs I actually want to download of which it'll only download like 50 a playlist,
Please tell me there's a way to stop the offline mixtape download. I know YouTube thinks I like the songs I do but I don't want it to download them

2024.05.15 08:48 JLGoodwin1990 I gave AWII an honest shot, and well...

So, I haven't been able to play AWII up until now because I simply don't own a Series X or game on PC (I still game on a base Xbox One and 360). I'm a massive fan of the original game and the American Nightmare digital add-on. I even purchased the novelization of the original game, and downloaded the little live action mini series they made years ago. I stayed away as much as I could from playthroughs on YouTube as I didn't want to be spoiled in terms of story or gameplay. Happily, a friend of mine who owns both a Series X and the game let me take a spin on the game from the beginning. I felt so excited to sit down and play it, especially after hearing the rave (non-spoiler) reviews it got. I played for about three and a half hours before choosing to hang it up.
Now, before I say anything more, I just want to say that these are merely my own feelings, thoughts and opinions on the game. If you loved the game, I genuinely am glad for that. Not all games are going to appeal to everyone, and the decisions and changes Remedy made for the sequel were what they thought was best.
That being said, as much as it pains me to say, after giving it an honest chance, I find it simply is not for me. To be completely honest, I didn't like much of it. There were a few things I did like, such as the Dark Place version of NYC, and especially the updated version of Bright Falls, as the town itself was one thing I adored about the original game. Watery was also a welcome addition. And Coffee World flat out cracked me up. And I also liked the updated look of Wake, and the character of Alex Casey.
But that's about where my likes end. I will try and avoid any spoilers in my own personal criticisms. But, the massive change in tone from the first game was one thing I honestly didn't like. I very much liked the, what I can only describe as Action-Horror style of the original, over the flat out Horror style of AWII (And I say that as a horror writer myself!) Maybe it's simply because I've played the original since I was 20 years old in 2010 to now, but it was just too jarring for me. The best way to phrase it, was that it felt like it was trying to emulate the Resident Evil remakes too much. I also missed the cliche, somewhat cheesy 70s and 80s movie tone the original had as it went more serious. To me, that sort of sucked the fun out of things. The same with the whole concept of the cork board and connecting pictures together. With either Alan or Saga. It just wasn't my personal cup of tea. It slowed things down too much.
I also disliked the change in combat. Many people found the combat of the original to be tedious, but I personally liked the swarming enemy mechanics. I like the rush of panic as you swing Alan around, pointing the flashlight and trying to land your shots. Making the enemies much harder and fewer just felt less engaging and tense to me, and making them venerable bullet sponges also wasn't that enjoyable to me. In addition, I also missed the driving segments that the first game had. Again, I know others didn't enjoy them, but I personally did. Getting behind the wheel and ramming into the Taken was a highlight for me.
One other thing I wasn't a fan of either, was adding a new, playable character. I won't delve into this too much, as way too many people have muddied the waters over this as I've stumbled across YouTube videos with titles about it. Suffice to say, the actress who portrayed Saga Anderson did a great job, but, if it makes sense, in a game called Alan Wake II, his character was the one I wanted to play, not another, even if it was chosen for story direction.
Beyond that, I also missed the licensed soundtrack that the first game had. It made the game, to me at least, feel more connected to the real world, which always helps increase immersion. Plus, a game filled with songs by artists I love such as Roy Orbison, Poe, The Black Angels, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and more just was all that and a bag of chips. Plus, to be honest, I wasn't a big fan of the new rendition of the in game band Old Gods of Asgard. The original songs sounded genuinely like ones a 70s rock band would have put out 50 years ago; the ones I heard didn't. Maybe I didn't get far enough in to the game to find they were supposed to be new songs that the Anderson brothers recorded, but still.
Honestly, I think I would more have preferred the version of Alan Wake II we were supposed to get 11 or 12 years ago, before it was shelved. I watched that footage back again when I returned home tonight, and found myself enjoying watching it more than what I played.
Again, if you did enjoy the game, I am truly happy for you, as it makes all your lives that much more enjoyable. Please don't let my negative reaction detract from your positive one! Enjoy the game!
But, for me?
I think I'll just stick to playing the original and American Nightmare.

I am downloading this to an SD drive that I use for extra storage on my Walkman, transferring all of the files via File Explorer on Windows. I’ve tried downloading JPEGs to use as cover art, but it won’t recognize them. Maybe I’ve put them in the wrong folder? I have no more solutions I could find online, does anyone have any ideas?
