2024.05.16 22:48 idkijustwannavibe 2 months of positive changes but not making progress and painfully bloated

hi! this is my first reddit post so i’m going to try and include as much info and be as direct as possible. i’m 27F and weigh 180 lbs at only 5’1. i have always fluctuated weight a lot and carried it relatively decently but a few months ago i decided i needed to make a change. i have been working out every single day since march 1st, prioritizing protein and mostly whole foods, and overall feel like i have made a lot of positive lifestyle changes but i am feeling worse than i have in a while. i am painfully PAINFULLY bloated all the time, i have not lost any weight, and just feel gross. i went to the doctor and the ran blood tests and i was told the only thing off was my vitamin d so i have been taking supplements for that for a few weeks.
few quick facts:
-i have a strict desk job from 6:45am-3:15 pm with only two 15 and one 30 minute breaks. we cannot leave out desks (call center and we are plugged in) and are not allowed standing desks of any kind. i try my best to stand and stretch and walk during my breaks
-because of being inactive during the day i go to the gym EVERY day, i have incorporated a lot of weight training but somedays will just walk on the treadmill for a bit to get some activity to balance it out (prioritizing closing my rings on my apple watch!)
-i have a hormonal iud and take 450mg of welbutrin for depression and have been on both since 2018
if anyone has ANY recommendations i would love to hear. i am working to get a more active job and get an appointment with a dietitian/nutritionist but am struggling to get appointments due to my insurance. any advice or things that worked for you would be greatly appreciated. i feel like i am doing everything right but if anything i’m feeling worse and don’t know what to do!

2024.05.16 22:29 Asimiss Osprey duro 6 vs camelbak zephyre 12l

hello there.
as name suggested, been looking onto new trail running backpack and i ve narrowed down to two options
i'm looking onto these two because i can test them both in store and prices re also nice. for now i don't have other options soo one of these two.
i'm more onto osprey side here, it just looks like better desinged backpack but i'm just little afraid 6l might become too little on my solo 30km runs when i can refill water only once on lets say 20km mark (as example): t-shirt, jacket, packet of tissues, at least 1,5l or 2,5l water (two flasks and 1,5l reservoir on back, can definently buy only 1l if needed), 1st aid kit, headlamp, food like chocolate bars, crosiant, etc. and ofc phone, keys and maybe a wallet.
for any other reccomedation of other backpacks (excluding salomon ones since i'm not gonna risk with that brand again - way more dissapoitments rather than good purchases) fell free to suggest but in my country options re limited and only place i know to buy online is amazon de.

2024.05.16 22:27 Launchfromtheair What should I do? 26 without any qualifications and experience, but about to receive a significant windfall.

So, a little bit of history. I finished secondary school in 2013, and got horrific grades. My only passing mark was in English Language. Between then and now, I've been employed once for a period of 4 months in 2021. I'm fortunate enough to have very supportive parents. I've got a number of significant physical and mental health complications which have prevented me from working as I would like to.
My original plan was to get as many IT certs as possible and start applying for remote 1st line support positions (or whatever). But, it's come to light I'm very likely to receive a high six-figure windfall. This isn't enough to "retire" (not that I've worked much) but is enough to afford me a few options. I'll be honest and say I basically feel like I have the social and adult skills of a 17 year old, despite my age.
What should I do? I'm considering getting a degree, but have no idea what I actually like or want to do.
Thanks!

2024.05.16 22:26 BearCavalryCorpral Education

Schools need to do better. America needs to do better with its schools. Schools need to prepare kids for the outside world. "But that should be the parents' job!" No duh! But not every kid has the advantage of parents who can or will teach them what they need to know. I never learned how to write a resume or what the fuck a cover letter was in school. My parents didn't know how to do that either for a first job in the US. They got their first jobs under a completely different system in a country that doesn't exist anymore! What about kids whose parents don't have time? Those who don't give a shit? Just fuck us I guess? Isn't this supposed to be the land of equal opportunity (What a joke, I know)? How is it remotely equal if we're not even starting from the same knowledge of navigating the real world?
You know what my school did teach me? What the teacher's guide said Holden's red fucking hunting hat represented in The Catcher in the Rye. The only time I have ever used that knowledge was in rants about how utterly pointless it was. It wasn't even teaching us to find symbolism in writing. It was just "This is what it means, memorize it, it's going to be on the test".
Speaking of memorization - schools only really teach one way. That way doesn't work with you? Tough shit. You're gonna learn less, get lower grades, which will impede on your future prospects, get stressed, deal with whatever at home consequences there are...just because you learn differently. I used to be pretty good at math till mid-middle school. It all clicked because the teachers in earlier grades explained the hows and the whys of concepts. Bobby bought a pizza and split it between himself and 5 of his friends. How much of the pizza does each person get? See? That's division. That's something I could visualize and process. Then it became "Here's a formula, memorize it". Any questions got dismissed. "Where is this used?" "On the test" "Why does this work?" "Here's another bare mathematical formula that explains it". After middle school, I started sucking at math. I hated math. It was nothing but stress because I couldn't understand anything and my capacity for rote memorization was pretty shoddy. Still do, but watching videos with explanations on the whys, hows and for whats have made it easier to understand and more interesting.
Speaking of schools not helping with learning - it's looking more and more like schools are more interested in looking good than doing good. I have a friend who fell behind on a subject because her teacher was shit. She went into the next grade behind. She got put on an Individual Learning Plan (IEP), but instead of helping her catch up, they just gave her busy work, gave her passing grades, and sent her on her way. She's had to play catchup on her own as an adult. I'm now a school substitute and I've watched kids today get the same treatment. English assignment? Just scribble something down in text speak and you'll pass. We aren't doing kids any favours by letting them breeze by on shitty work! This will bite them in the ass when they're older!
Don't get me started on parents who think their kids are precious little angels who can do no wrong, or royalty whose every whim needs to be pandered to. You are doing your kids no favours. No, it's not the teacher's fault if little Billy is failing class because he's never turned in any of his work.
Then there's the money problem. We need a better system. Tying school funding to local taxes is inherently unequal. It's saying that kids from poorer families don't deserve as good of an education because their parents are poor. Tying funding to headcount is more viable, but when the population goes down, it fucks over all the other students. Misuse of funds, corruption, etc, yeah, that's a thing. The district I work in is dealing with such an issue right now, which results in huge layoffs. Even so, the government bails out companies that mismanaged their resources! Why not schools? Schools take care of the future generation! If you want them to be more than just glorified daycare centers, they need money! Why are we punishing kids and teachers for the admins' fuckups?

2024.05.16 22:21 sadsunnyday Harvard Next Cycle Guidance

First year CC student. Graduated high school with a low GPA (2.0?) four years ago.
Was severely depressed, so had to finish high school through an adult school to earn enough credit to graduate. Going back to school/college for the first time since the pandemic.
I want to register for summer classes at my community college to get a head start, but the counselor (who was highly praised by students) doesn’t seem to care. Just feeling very overwhelmed right now, and would like some help.
I know aiming for Harvard with my current stats is very ambitious, but I simply don’t want to live with any more regrets or what-ifs. Just the sheer act of going through the admission process will give me motivation for general schooling, and force me to learn fundamental skills I missed out on in high school.
Would really appreciate some guidance on how to navigate the transfer process and apply for the next admission term (March 1st, 2025):
  1. I plan to start filling out my Common App essays as soon as the next cycle opens on July 31st, 2024. Is this a good idea?
  2. SAT/ACT scores are required, but I’m sure mine were not the best. I don’t have time to retake them since I want to transfer within a year. I also have AP exam scores (highest would be a 3 or 4 tbh). How many, and which score should I send in?
  3. College/Dean’s/Registrar’s report. This was labeled under “Printable Transfer Application Forms” (along with Havard Transfer Supplement and Midterm Report), and was explicitly stated that you cannot fill these out electronically. Would I have to go talk directly to the Dean, and ask them to fill then mail this out?
  4. Havard Transfer Supplement. Not to be filled out electronically. Does this mean it has to be handwritten. Or can I type on it then print to mail?
  5. Official High School Transcript. Which one do I submit: high school vs adult school transcript? Do I submit both?
  6. Course Credits. I know Harvard does not accept students with more than 60 credits. How many should I take to be considered a junior applicant? I want to apply as a junior since I want less emphasis on my high school GPA. I don’t really care about which CC credit can be transferred over, but would Harvard care if only 15 credits or less can be transferred?
  7. I plan on taking online classes for my summer semester. Would this affect anything? Those classes are still considered college courses right?
  8. “Test scores can be particularly helpful for non-traditional students. We encourage non-traditional students to submit an exam taken within three years of applying for transfer to reflect current academic ability.” What is considered a non-traditional student? I’ve seen “4-year traditional student” on this subreddit a lot. I assume that means a transfer student from a four year university. Would I be considered non-traditional?
  9. Is there anything else I need to know?
I’m feeling very anxious because I feel like I’m running out of time. Thank you to those who took the time to read this, and answer my questions.

2024.05.16 22:18 probatya Score bumped up 0.5 after EOR

Just wanted to put in my two cents concerning EOR. I initially got 8.0 overall score, which I was pretty upset about, given that I had previously earned Grade A in my CPE exam. Getting an equivalent of C1 as a certified C2 speaker seemed very underwhelming and disappointing. I mentioned this fact when applying for re-marking of the test, so it might have played a role, but I can't be sure. Be it as it may, my writing score was changed from 7.5 to 8.0, leading to my overall score being increased to 8.5. Yes, EOR is a gamble, but I think it's worth the risk, especially if you feel the result is unfair. Good luck to all test takers!

2024.05.16 22:17 ja_feel From Snacks to SaaS, and lessons I've learned along the way

Hey Entrepreneur!
I wanted to share the story of the past year and a half of my life - a tale of challenges, tech innovation, and a whole lot of snacks. This isn’t just about launching a product; it’s about solving a big problem that inspired an entire platform.
TL;DR: My buddy and I sold our previous snack subscription box company and made a cool thing

The Seeds of Discontent

At our previous company, my buddy Mike and I saw how powerful influencer marketing could be. Our business, delivering international snacks to doorsteps, was perfect for social media. But managing these influencer partnerships was a huge headache.
Each new campaign started with excitement but quickly became overwhelming. We dealt with many social media platforms, each with its own rules and metrics. Keeping track of everything felt like trying to solve a puzzle with pieces that kept changing. The tools we used were basic. They helped us send products and payments but didn’t offer much for managing or understanding the big picture.
Tracking our campaign performance was a real pain. With just a small team running our marketing, we were juggling hundreds of influencers at the same time. It was hard to keep an eye on everyone and make quick decisions. Plus, the data we got was often late and messy, making things even more frustrating.
This constant struggle showed us a big gap in our toolkit. We needed a solution that could make managing influencers easier and give us useful insights, something as dynamic and global as our product. This ongoing frustration planted the seeds for what would eventually become our new company.

Market Research: Finding the Pain Points

After selling our previous business, Mike and I took a six-month break. We explored different ideas, from unique apps to a Castle Crashers style game. But our experience working with creators kept pulling us back to marketing. We knew the challenges of influencer marketing needed to be addressed.
We talked to our network in the e-commerce space to see if they had similar problems. The feedback was eye-opening. Many businesses struggled with existing tools, which mostly acted as simple marketplaces, where interactions were brief and not very deep.
Even worse, the few ambassador tools available were expensive and limited. When I searched for an ambassador software tool that worked across all social networks, the options I found required scheduling demos days in advance. They often lacked direct API connections and supported only a few major social media networks. The starting prices were high, often around $5k per month, with costs going up as the program expanded.
This research not only validated our experiences but also showed us a strategic need for our own tool. We realized we needed a solution not just to fill the current gap but also as a key part of our marketing stack for future businesses. We were determined to build something that wouldn’t force us—or anyone else—to pay a crazy amount for effective influencer marketing.

Designing the Dream: Our New Business’ Blueprint

With a clear vision from our frustrations and market research, we set out to create our new business. Our goal was to build a comprehensive tool that would change influencer marketing. Here’s what we focused on:
Each feature of our tool we were creating was designed to address specific pain points we identified. Our goal was to offer a tool that was powerful, efficient, adaptable, and enjoyable for both brands and their ambassador partners.

Launching Our New Business: Embracing User Feedback

After about 18 months of design and development, we started the soft launch of our new business on May 1st. Opting for a soft launch allowed us to focus on real-time feedback and fine-tuning over making a big initial splash. This approach is crucial - not just for introducing our product but for understanding how it fits into the real world, where actual users rely on it.

Initial Rollout and Testing

Our launch a couple of weeks ago marked the start of our public journey. We released our new tool we created with ambassador apps on the App Store and Google Play, and opened our web-based company portal for business use. This phase is not about mass marketing but about engaging with our professional network and early adopters testing everything in real-world conditions. This includes real companies and creators, ensuring our platform is robust and responsive.

Iterative Feedback Integration

Feedback from these early stages is invaluable. We have set up multiple channels to communicate with our initial users to ensure they feel supported and heard. This ongoing dialogue is critical as it helps us identify and implement necessary adjustments quickly. Each piece of feedback is a step towards improving functionality and user experience.

Continued Development Based on Early Insights

Since we are still in the soft launch phase, our focus remains on refining the platform. A recent development was adding the Creator Hub and Company Center about a month ago—enhancements from recognizing limitations in our initial setup.
Creator Hub: The Creator Hub allows businesses to manage their ambassador relationships dynamically. Companies can discover and invite creators who match their interests and campaign goals, ensuring more personalized and effective collaborations.
Company Center: This feature allows creators to independently discover and apply to various ambassador programs, giving them the freedom to engage with brands that align with their interests.
These features aim to make the connection between companies and creators as seamless and beneficial as possible, accommodating a wide range of marketing strategies and campaign sizes.

How The Tool We Created Works: Streamlining Influencer Marketing

Our tool is designed to simplify and enhance the influencer marketing process for both companies and creators. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how our platform works:
  1. Signup and Integration
- Companies can quickly create customizable signup forms. They can also invite new ambassadors directly from the Creator Hub that match their interests. This flexibility helps integrate Social Strudel into existing marketing workflows.
2. Ambassador Onboarding
- Creators apply to become ambassadors, download the Social Strudel app, and connect their social media accounts. This ensures that once approved, creators can start engaging with brand campaigns promptly.
3. Application Review
- Companies get notifications of new applicants and can approve or decline them based on their fit and relevance to marketing goals. This step ensures only the best ambassadors represent the brand.
4. Targeted Segmentation
- Companies can segment ambassadors into groups, allowing them to tailor activities and communications. This supports targeted marketing strategies and more personalized engagement.
5. Activity Management
- Companies set up new activities on various social platforms for ambassadors. Examples include:
- These are just examples, and activities can be tailored to fit different platforms and goals.
6. Real-Time Notifications
- Creators get notifications about new activities through push notifications and email. They can browse the app for available activities, ensuring they never miss an opportunity.
7. Submission and Verification
- Creators submit proof of activity completion directly through the app. This makes managing submissions easy and organized for companies.
8. Activity Approval
- Companies review submitted activities, approving or declining them based on quality and alignment with campaign objectives. This maintains high standards and ensures effectiveness.
9. Rewards and Motivation
- Upon approval, creators earn points, which can be redeemed for various rewards. This system motivates creators to produce high-quality content and stay engaged.
10. Custom Rewards Creation
11. Reward Notifications and Redemption
12. Reward Distribution Management

Looking Forward: The Road Ahead for Us

As we continue with our new business, we are committed to not just meeting but exceeding the evolving needs of digital marketing. We’ve only just begun to tap into our platform’s potential, and our roadmap is geared towards enhancing our service and expanding our reach.

Enhanced Integration Capabilities

We aim to expand our platform’s integration capabilities, adding support for social networks like WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram, and Quora, and adapting to new emerging platforms like the anticipated Vine 2. By covering more platforms, we provide our users with tools to engage with audiences everywhere online.

Advanced Analytics and AI Implementation

Understanding the crucial role of data, we plan to enhance our analytics engine with advanced metrics and predictive analytics. By integrating AI, we aim to give users insights that reflect current trends and anticipate future behaviors.

Continued Focus on User Experience

User feedback is key and remains a cornerstone of our development. We are committed to refining the user experience based on real usage and feedback. This includes enhancing our mobile apps and ensuring the Creator Hub and Company Center are intuitive and robust. Both are still in early stages, and we are actively working to improve these features.

Expanding Educational Resources

To help users fully leverage the tool we created, we plan to expand our educational resources. This includes tutorials, best practice guides, and case studies for new users, and advanced content for experienced marketers to refine their strategies.

Final Reflections

If you've stuck with me this long through our story, thank you! Reflecting on this journey, it’s clear that every challenge and setback helped shape our vision and refine our approach. From the initial frustrations to the detailed market research, every step has been a learning experience. We're excited about the future and committed to improving our platform constantly to meet the evolving needs of our users and potential users. If you have any questions or feedback at all, I’d love to hear it! Your insights and support mean a lot as my partner and I continue to grow and innovate.

2024.05.16 22:16 divinepasta I am a software engineer turned statistician who got into an Ontario med school this year. I hope my non-trad journey can provide some insight and hope for others out here. This is a long post + AMA!

First off, congrats to everyone for the past application cycle! No matter what your outcome was, it's a big accomplishment to have gone through the whole process. I'm a non-trad who was accepted to Queen's this year, on my 2nd application cycle. I will be 27 when I start this Fall. It feels surreal and I always told myself I'd write a post about my journey if this day ever came - and here we are.
I didn't decide to apply to med school until after I finished undergrad, and while doing my research, I always wished I could read/hear perspectives from others with my background. Even though everybody's path will be different, I hope that my story can provide some insight (or even hope) for other non-trad applicants out there.
Before we start, here are my stats because that's important:
I'll go in chronological order, briefly describing some of the major events that led me to today, starting from high school. Please ask me any questions in the comments - (almost) nothing is off limits :)
TLDR: I was a software engineer who quit after a year to go to grad school and pursue medicine. It took me 4 years from when I decided to pursue this to getting accepted at a Canadian school. I did a Masters in stats and applied 2 times. My biggest takeaway is to do a lot of what you are passionate about, do it well, and take it far (for me, that was teaching and research).
Some demographics:
High school, 2011-2015: I was always interested in medicine as a kid, but math was always my favourite subject. I applied to several science and math programs, and was choosing between Western Med Sci and Waterloo Math. I did not apply to Mac Health Sci and looking back, I'm not sure why (perhaps a sign that I didn't believe in myself). I ended up choosing Waterloo Math and giving up on the medical school route in grade 12, for a few reasons: the math program had 6 co-op terms, meaning I'd graduate with 2 full-time years of job experience, and I wasn't particularly good at biology and didn't have strong reasons for pursuing medicine back then. Med school also seemed like an impossible goal, especially since I didn't have any mentors in the field.
Undergrad, 2015-2020: This was honestly a fun time for me. I double-majored in stats and CS and I did 6 co-ops, 5 of which were in software engineering roles. I had originally planned to do actuarial science, but quickly saw the earning potential in the tech industry and made it my goal to get a job at a big tech company. A lot of personal stuff happened during this time as well that affirmed my decision pursue a software engineering career. One part of it was that I didn't want my parents to worry about me, and being able to show them that I was able to do well for myself in tech felt really good.
Halfway through my co-ops, I realized that I wasn't feeling the most fulfilled in software roles, but management roles also didn't appeal to me. I didn't really take the time to fully explore this feeling, and it was easy to put it away in light of the high income and getting to live in big cities for internships. Still, I did well in my co-ops and built up my software skills. After realizing that "grades don't matter for getting tech jobs", I let my grades slip. It wasn't until 4th year that I decided I wanted to keep the door open for grad school, and starting taking classes I liked and getting better grades. I graduated with an 82% average, with my grades all over the place (which I'd later learn was bad for calculating my OMSAS gpa lol).
Throughout undergrad, I still wanted to be involved in clubs and stuff, so here's a list of all my undergrad ECs. All these were only 4-8 months long.
Another activity from undergrad that made it onto my application was a research project I did at one of my co-ops. It was in NLP and I worked on it even after finishing that coop term. It ended up taking 4 years to get published.
Full-time software engineering, 2020-2021: I signed a return offer from one of my co-ops, and had planned to move to Seattle in the summer after graduating to start working. But Covid changed all that. I moved back home with my parents in the GTA and worked at my software job remotely for the full year.
It was during this year that I was really feeling unfulfilled in my job, and did a lot of thinking about how I wanted my career to look. I started to remember that med school was something that I once wanted to do, and I also started reading/watching a lot of content from people in medicine with non-traditional backgrounds. My partner, who is also from Ontario, was accepted to an international med school, and many of our friends were also getting into schools in Canada around the same time, so this reaffirmed to me that it was actually possible. While working for the year, I made a plan to apply to grad school (academia would be my back-up) and take the MCAT. Here's what my 2020-2021 looked like:
During this year, I also wrote out a 3-year plan that included my masters and 2 application cycles. I wrote out what courses I would take to fulfill prereqs, which schools I would apply to each year, and what my back-up plan would be. I think this was important to do rigorously since it gave me a clear idea of which schools I was eligible for, and how much work it would take me to become eligible for the rest of them.
I will also add that this is a rather objective recount of my process that year. In reality, I completely recognized how insane it was to quit my job to go to grad school, and I'm super lucky that I was able to.
Grad school, 2021-2023: I moved to BC to start my Masters in statistics in August. This choice was partly to gain IP status in BC, but mostly, this was really the best program for me out of the schools I applied to. Even looking back now, I would have chosen this program even without the IP consideration.
Here's a breakdown of everything I did during the first year of my Masters:
First application, 2022: I applied only to UBC for my first application cycle. In retrospect, I should have just applied broadly right away, but I didn't feel like I had enough references built up by then. And UBC doesn't require references unless you get an interview. I honestly had very high hopes of getting an interview this year, and was crushed to receive a rejection in December with an NAQ of 50-75. I thought that my application was unique, but upon reflection, I realized that the lack of volunteering and community service was a big gap in my application.
So here's a breakdown of everything I did in my second year of my Masters and beyond:
Second application, 2023: This time, I applied to UBC and every school in Ontario that I was eligible for: Queen's and Mac. I was rejected by UBC pre-interview again. Same NAQ, and my total score didn't change. I was totally crushed and thought it was over for this year. I was very honest with myself about the Ontario applications - Mac was a total throwaway application and Queen's felt like a complete gamble. I was rejected from Mac pre-interview but one fateful day in January, I received an email from Queen's. It had a very generic "Application Status" subject line and I opened it fully expecting a rejection. I was totally shocked when it said I was invited for the MMI! And a few months later, I was also invited to the Panel.
Some of my thoughts and preparation for the interviews:
MMI - Aside from the usual resources that are posted here, I also took advantage of the following:
Panel - I was so happy to receive a panel interview, and knew that I could not mess this up. I prepped with a few different friends of mine who were in med school, and another friend who was going through Ontario interviews too. Going in, I felt very prepared, and in the days leading up to it, I even felt like my answers were on autopilot and a bit over-prepared. So I really tried to relax and "be myself"/answer genuinely during the panel. The real panel felt quite cold - I didn't get any feedback from my interviewers, and was a bit thrown off by some of the questions. I was also cut off by the Kira Talent timer at the end, and didn't get to say goodbye or thank you. For the rest of the day, I ruminated on all my answers. The content of my answers felt somewhere between "why would I say that" and "just fine" and "great", but I was definitely feeling a bit bad about the whole experience.
Decision Week, 2024: That brings us to this week! In the week leading up to the decision, I flip flopped between "My panel hated me, there's no way I passed the vibe check" and "My answers were good, my MMI felt good, why wouldn't they accept me". I opened the email at 6am (Pacific time) with zero expectations - I truly had no idea what was waiting for me on the other side. The first word was "Congratulations!" and I didn't read much farther than that before I started celebrating :)
So that's it. I told a lot of people I work with, my Masters supervisor, my parents, and my friends, and it felt amazing to deliver this good news. My closing thoughts about my whole journey are that even though I do think my application was great, I still got incredibly lucky. At any point in the process, I could have gotten an undesirable outcome, and there was nothing I could do to control that (other than my efforts prior). I also relied a lot on my support system, and was so lucky to have had + made friends who are in med school or were practising already.
I just feel so grateful to be starting this Fall, and I'm happy to say that my high school self would be in absolute disbelief if she could see where I am today. That statement is a sign to me that I'm on the right path, and I'm just so excited to be starting this long, hard career that is medicine.
If you've made it to the end, thank you for reading!! If you can relate to any part of my journey and have questions, please send me a comment or DM - my inbox is always open.

2024.05.16 22:10 MulberryParsnip Hiring manager asked my reference if they thought I would be successful in the role because it "seemed like a change in career path" for me. I have over 10 years of experience in this field.

Just needed to vent because it's been a really difficult time for me job hunting and this experience really just broke me. For background, I have 10+ years of experience working in government doing communications, stakeholder and policy work. I recently got laid off from my dream job, unfortunately, and really need to find new work as i live in a HCOL area. I had been hoping to find a managerial role in my field as it is the next step in my career and I am ready for it, but I would have accepted a lateral move if needed since I have a family to support. I have a strong resume showing progressive career growth in my field in prestigious government agencies, but it's been a tough time in the job market and I haven't been able to land anything yet. I had one offer for a lateral move to a role I would have loved a couple of months ago, but the offer was pulled as they had to offer it to an internal candidate due to union rules.
After that experience, because at this point, I really just need to find anything, I got desperate and started applying to entry level roles and roles that were a step or two below my previous pay grade/title. I got a few interviews this way, including one for an entry-level position in a government ministry. For reference, this position pays about $30k / year less than I previously made, so this was a bit depressing but I did what I had to and put my best effort forward. The interview consisted of a pre-interview task (the task is something I do nearly every day in my line of work so I know I produced a high quality product - I will say if one were actually entry level, it would be an appropriate skill testing task but for me it was really easy) and standard questions for my field. There were two managers interviewing for four roles across their two teams, and it became apparent as the interview went on that I was very overqualified for the position, despite having dumbed down my job titles on my resume a bit to not seem like an overqualified flight risk. Manager A asked me about it, but I had prepared an answer for this question as I had anticipated it, and things moved along positively.
I found out from one of my references that Manager B in the interview had contacted her regarding a reference check for me. My reference said it went really well and Manager B left off the conversation saying she thought I would be a great fit for her team. The only thing she felt was odd was that Manager B spent quite a bit of time going on about how this seemed like a change in field for me. My reference emphasized how it was absolutely not a change in field and was baffled as to how someone could think this given the years of experience, connections, and industry knowledge I have and communicated in the interview. She said the conversation had a positive tone despite this odd line of questioning, and thought I would likely get an offer soon.
It has now been over two weeks since my reference spoke with the hiring manager. I have not heard anything back from Manager B or the HR team, and they had previously told me they were intending to contact the selected candidates by now. I intend to contact them next week (I want to wait until after the upcoming long weekend just in case) but I just feel completely demoralized at the moment.

2024.05.16 22:00 Illustrious_Belt8993 Can anyone help me register for my SATs?

I am a student in India and I need $118.74 to register for my SATs. I've trued very hard to convince my parents to pay for it but im basically asking them to spend a month's bills on one exam that they dont even believe is important. I've always wanted to study in the US and it sucks that money is the only reason I cant take an exam that i know i can do well in. If anyone would like to help me out with even a couple of bucks Id appreciate it very much. You can PM me for any other questions or for proof that I'm actually taking this test or ask for my grades. Roman Art 2C03, Commerce 2AB3, History 2RR3
Posting this for any future students considering these courses as electives:
Roman Art 2C03: unless you’re very good at memorization and spelling Roman words I do not recommend taking Roman Art 2C03, I regret taking it. The entire course is made up of 3 tests and 1 exam. It’s FILL IN THE BLANK - so despite the content being very interesting and easy to grasp, the issue is that there are hundreds of different names of artworks, people, emperors, places, etc written in Roman, that you need to memorize and be able to spell in order to do well in the course. The tests are manageable if you study for a few days consistently, but the exam is difficult (image is just the list of words I was trying to memorize how to spell before the exam). I wouldn’t be so harsh on this course if it wasn’t an elective for most people and what appears to be an easy course. Despite it being a course I expected to boost my mark, it dragged it down. If this is something you think you can dedicate a lot of time to, then go ahead, I think it’s a very interesting and important subject to know, but it’s time consuming if you want to do well.
Commerce 2AB3: (took for commerce minor) Important course for many, all I have to say is just watch out. The content and cheat sheet fools you into thinking it’s easier than it is. If I could go back I’d spend weeks studying for the exam and especially the midterm (which was harder). I know some people find this course easy, but it doesn’t come easy to all of us so if you’re not naturally great at math please just don’t be fooled and put a lot of time and practice into it.
History 2RR3: Take it!! Great course, it’s fair, easy and interesting. One tutorial per week, you have to be prepared for it as a lot of the weight of your grade is participation in class, but it’s easier than it sounds if you skim/read before class. Exam/Midterm online, half multiple choice, half essay.
Also, ENVSOCTY 1HB3 + 2RW3: Super easy elective, take it for sure.

2024.05.16 21:50 Alternative_Sound_52 Does anybody else feel like they used to be smart but now they are like dumb

Before Covid happened I used to get amazing grades and was always put to advanced placement even learning 7th grade math in 5th grade. Though after Covid and during Covid things got different. During Covid I did "homeschool" tho it wasn't much learning. When I was in the online school I would just turn my screen around and not listen. After Covid I moved. I was feeling really depressed and missed I'd say more then 3 months of school in total, from me moving schools and skipping days. Though Then I started highschool this school was new. The circlulum was messed up I also had a teacher who sometimes didn't even get things right and teachers who wouldn't even give work and students would just go on there computers and play games. Though I seemed to understand concepts well, when on tests I would do terrible. There is no homework at my school and my math grade is based upon tests so maybe that's apart of it? Or maybe I have some sort of cognitive problem or I'm just dumb?

2024.05.16 21:42 SeaEbb827 How do I get back into a routine?

So I (M20) just finished my second year at uni, and even though the year wasn’t bad in terms of grades I really feel like I fell off. I had a really good start to college, I had a really good diet, worked out nearly every day, joined lots of orgs, made friends with a lot of people, woke up early, and overall was very good at managing my time. I ended up getting sick with bronchitis over the summer and that completely destroyed everything. I had to stop going gym, I ate less so I went from 180lbs -> 150lbs by the time I recovered. I’m pretty insecure about my looks (which was the whole reason I would work out), and now that they were ruined I didn’t have the confidence I had before which lead me to talk to people less, join less clubs, and I ended up not making many friends in my 2nd year compared to my 1st. I recovered from my bronchitis by September 2023, and I really wanted to get back into it all. But no matter what I tried I just couldn’t start where I left off. If I tried waking up early and going to the gym, I would get tired and skip meals. If I ate my usual 5 meals a day, I wouldn’t have time for school and orgs, and on the off chance that I was able to complete my routine for a day, I was too tired to do it the next day, I’m honestly surprised that I managed this stuff every single day for a whole year. Kinda feels like when I start trying, I just end up back in square 1. I really don’t want my 3rd year in Uni go to waste, how can I seriously start my routine again and make it sustainable enough for me to continue for a long time like before?
TLDR: I used to have a really nice, sustainable, daily routine for school, work, gym, and friends. I got sick, had to stop this routine. How can I get it started again?

2024.05.16 21:37 jbrod1991 BS HHS to HS degree

Hello everyone, ***this is more a rant post haha just fyi I just finished my phone call with my mentor about changing my degree from human Services to the new health sci degree. Admittedly I have failed D391 for the second time now but seem to do really well on the practice tests and quizzes (all initially) off book-I just can’t seem to retain the information under pressure. My heart just isn’t in this degree and I have expressed to my mentor as such, and, that I ultimately took on this degree because I loved the school model and checked off a box to ONE grad school I reached out to before applying. That being said, since my enrollment, WGU has unveiled the new degree which checks ALL the boxes to grad schools I reached out to in my state. I really tried to stay strong with this degree and move forward, however I just can’t shake these terrible realities that I know about myself-my hearts just not in this degree and even if I have to fall back on just the BS rather than the masters/doctorate level, I know there are more fields with a Health sci degree that I’d find far more enjoyable and rewarding than human services. I’m just being honest and clear with myself and mental tendencies and patterns with my learning disabilities.
So my questions for my mentor that he will be getting back to me on are:
*I am already passed the minimum units for a full time student on fafsa and have completed 4 shared courses, two of which were in much later terms so bouncing around within reason is not an issue for me at all.
1) Understanding the course I am struggling in is not a shared course with HS, may I “drop” the current course I have not started yet and continue on to the shared courses til I can switch majors?
2)can I simply just not do this course and continue to have classes fed into my current term that coincide with each other? (Obviously within reason-I don’t intend to try to complete introduction to epidemiology right now but I can absolutely tackle human growth and development or cultural awareness etc. I will be moving soon, too so I’m not apposed to take a little break til things get rolling in the right direction if I need to.)
3) Can I start my new degree sooner than October as he told me, and, if so, what is the easiest way to have the course I’m struggling in dropped or wiped clean with the least negative outcome? (Only BS HS newbies can start from the June 1st date right now I guess)
Folks, I know he was trying to encourage me to continue on this specific course but also understood what I’m dealing with and sent me as much info as he could at that moment. I really hope I don’t have to change mentors when I switch.
Anyway, I really appreciate everyone in this community and it has helped me breathe in times of panic and stress because I can clearly see I’m not alone! I will post an update asap soon as I get new info.
I am not changing because I can’t or don’t want to do a class, but it sure was the biggest bug to really look in the mirror and reflect my needs for growth and this just ain’t it. So hopefully this helps someone who also is thinking of making the switch to a degree that more aligns with their needs.
Fully transparent, I’m applying to Chinese medical and herbal school so the new degree far more suits my needs of health and science related classes with labs included!

2024.05.16 21:36 ProjectCaffeinePills [osu!std and osu!mania] Ivaxa Possible Cheating and Multiaccounting

Ivaxa has been well known for his high BPM stream plays along with his obscene singletapping skills over the course of a few weeks at the time of writing. His most notable achievement is his S rank on Deceit [pishi’s Extra] +DT (Score) (Replay). However there is some unusual behavior that Ivaxa has that should be looked into. This thread will look into quite a few cases of these weird findings.
As of the current date, May 16th, 2024, we have collected enough information to submit our public review of Ivaxa’s activity. We are asking the osu! staff and other independent researchers to validate our information and proof-check every single aspect of it. If our findings would be proven to be incorrect and/or not substantial - that's completely fine. Our goal is not to just blindly accuse but to establish the truth.
This document contains currently collected information about Ivaxa, his scores, profiles, and potential connections to other “alt” accounts in the game. We, as an independent team, are trying to establish the legitimacy or lack thereof of said player.
As always, harassment of any of the people mentioned/involved in the report is inappropriate. Please be civil when partaking in the discussion.
Replays, and VODs can be found in a google drive at the end of the thread so you can investigate and see moments listed in the thread yourself.
But first, here's a few things to consider:
  1. Ivaxa’s mouse is a HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2, he allegedly plays on 800 DPI with a 0.62x sens multiplier on osu!. The only reason as to why it’s alleged is because of his recent streams, his sensitivity seems higher than it actually is.
  2. He plays with a Sayu O3C keypad that runs at 8000hz (Peripheral information can be found from Ivaxa’s Twitch channel.)
  3. He is able to singletap 191 BPM streams consistently.
  4. Ivaxa used to be a DT aim player, not much of a stream player until recently.
  5. The player does have skill, however he may be using some sort of outside assistance software-wise like aim assist or relax hacks.
  6. All replays in this thread were inspected using Circleguard.
  7. Most of the information down below was conducted in the empirical (perceived) sense, so take all of it with a grain of salt.

Section one: Replays

There are a few moments within Ivaxa’s recent replays that felt unusual or very strange; mostly unusual edge hits, but also weird UR bar behavior.
The Deceit +DT
There are a few things to mention about this score. The first is an unusual UR bar behavior from 91076 ms (~1 minute 31 seconds) to 93123 ms (~1 minute 33 seconds). The UR bar looks like this in the end. This type of UR bar behavior is often found in 125 hz keyboards with a map that has a BPM that is a multiple of 125 (125 BPM, 250 BPM, 375 BPM, etc.). However, Ivaxa doesn’t use a 125hz keyboard or keypad, he uses one that is rated at 8000hz. This is rather unusual since this type of UR is only found in this section of the map only. Also, if he were to play on a 125hz keyboard/keypad, the type of UR that was shown above would be all over the map since the Deceit with DT is mostly 375 BPM.
The second would be his aim, particularly at around 1885 combo, his cursor shakes at an abnormal magnitude from the rest of the map. This shake can be caused by nerves, tapping strain of the left hand, or a mix of both. But, Ivaxa’s alleged sensitivity is so low that the shake that has been shown in the replay is either really hard to do or impossible.
Gotta go Fast +DTSO
This score has one thing that is quite suspicious. at 47582 ms (~48 seconds) into the map, an awkward edge hit is found where he over-aimed and seemingly snapped back to the circle. This kind of edge hit is something that a normal osu! player wouldn’t be able to hit entirely, especially at the speed at which the map is being played at. Another edge hit can be found in the same map at 28852 ms (~29 seconds), where the cursor doesn’t naturally curve at the end, instead snapping to the edge of the circle. Both cases may allude to the usage of some sort of aim assist.
Metal Crusher +DT
There are two things to note about this score, the first is some unusual cursor movement at the ending section of the map. Ivaxa’s cursor slightly follows the slider at 59128 ms (~59 seconds), and another right after at 60400 ms (~one minute). Movement like this paired with the speed at which the map is being played at just seems unusual/suspicious.
There are also five edge hits within the map, four out of the five edge hits are at the very edge of a circle. The probability of hitting these types of edge hits is rather low, especially when there are four of them in one map.

Sendan Life +DTHD
There is something to be said about some of the 100’s that Ivaxa is hitting. More specifically some 100’s within a few of the maps that have been observed so far are very near the barrier of being a 300 hit regardless of whether the note is early or late (https://i.imgur.com/cxFSdjf.png, https://i.imgur.com/bHLurZn.png). The sayu is precise enough to actually hit these types of 100’s, however it feels like these have occurred too often, so much so that this play has half of the 100’s in the map has these “edge 100’s,” for a lack of a better term. There are also two 100’s (100 #1 and 100 #2) that have been hit at exactly the same lateness/timing.

Section Two: Twitch Streams

The two pieces of information down below are more focused on his single tapping skills, along with some weird/suspicious moments during his stream.
Stream title: #18 #2PL we back boys PL/ENG
At 15:37, Ivaxa is seen to be double tapping 270 bpm streams even though he S ranked the Deceit with DT around three days after said stream (390 BPM). At 49:15 mins of the same stream: he is seen to singletap 191 BPM streams, probably because he was warm when playing at his point.
Stream title: #17 #2PL Yomi yori 3 mod pass happening right now wtf,
On March 31st, 2024, on the VOD where he S ranked The Deceit +DT, at the end of the VOD at 2:58:42 Ivaxa is seen singletapping a 390 BPM burst. After which he paused the game and blamed Steam notifications. Despite the bottom half of his monitor being visible on stream through the webcam, where no steam notifications or pop-ups are visible, he then opened Steam to "change notifications settings.'' After allegedly changing the settings, his cursor trajectory on the visible parts of the monitor on stream tells us that he moved the mouse from the top most left corner, while usually Steam settings are located in a pop-up window at the center of the screen. Afterwards His stream allegedly "crashed."
To see the moment, play the following .mp4 file: 20240331 #17 #2PL Yomi yori 3 mod pass happening right now wtf Part 3 and go to the near end.
Stream title: #9 #2PL if i want to i'll farm req closed
On April 7th, 2024 Ivaxa showed on the osu! Game discord server that he is able to singletap 191 BPM (better picture of the graph), however six days later after the message, on his stream on April 13th, 2024 Ivaxa showed that he was able to singletap PoNo’s Yomi Yori 220 BPM streams at the end. This type of BPM jump in such a short amount of time can only be reasoned with by hardware abuse via rapid trigger. Either that, or some sort of relax hack that assists the player in tapping.

Section Three: Multiaccounting

There are many pieces of information that suspect that Ivaxa is multiaccounting, however there is currently no concrete evidence on whether or not he is indeed multiaccounting. Please keep this in mind when reading this section of the thread.
The Mulitiaccount & Play Count Graphs
Pipecat is the suspected multiaccount. First of all, both Pipecat and Ivaxa are placed 1st and 2nd on the osu!mania leaderboard in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland (This is done by using osu! subdivide nations). Both play count graphs also seem to compensate for each other as of 2024, April 4th (the graph for Ivaxa has been warped in order to have a better visualization).
Time-pp Scatter Chart & Best Performances
The same thing happens with their Best Performance Time-pp Scatter Chart from ameobea/osu!track (Pipecat's Mania Chart and Ivaxa's Mania Chart non warped). Both graphs seem to compensate for each other, especially at around the month of March, as of 2024, April 5th (again, Ivaxa's chart has been warped for better visualization of score submissions).
Speaking of pp, both accounts have similar maps in their best performances list (Ivaxa is on the left, Pipecat on the right). If you want to see more, just check their mania profiles.
This may ask the reason as to why Ivaxa hasn’t played any vsrg (Vertical Scrolling Rhythm Game), and yet his performance in mania is abnormal for his time played. As seen from the play count graph from above, Ivaxa would’ve most likely played mania first on the Pipecat account, and then proceeded to play mania again on the other.
Names/Naming Scheme & Last Seen
Their naming scheme can also be taken into account as, Ivaxa’s name was inspired by Vaxei, and Pipecat was inspired by Whitecat.
It is also worth noting that Ivaxa and Pipecat’s Last Seen times are near each other, being more or less one hour apart from each other.

Section Four: Misc, additional “facts,” and Speculations

This section is dedicated to the additional miscellaneous information and our speculation formed from the data we discovered during the process of the investigation. These entries are not verbosely written due to us not finding enough evidence/information to make them included in the previous sections.
For ease of understanding the entry's level of absurdity, we marked them with color tags. The marking process for each entry was completely subjective so even the most absurd ones could be a potential aid for independent investigators/osu! staff as an additional lead where we “hit the wall.”
Fact: Could be used as a potential lead
Fact + Assumption: Not substantial enough to be included in previous sections/Assumption
Pure Speculation: Completely speculative fact/information
Fact: BayOfEvil (Ivaxa’s old username), does have an osu!report on it, although the report isn’t very helpful. One of the thread's replies includes a Discord recording with Ivaxa playing as “proof” of him being legit. This should be investigated further (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVQDdw1SSLs).
Fact: Ivaxa’s Mania score on Ne uchi +DT was set 22 days after his no-mod score.
Fact: In Pipecat's osu profile a discord server can be found (https://discord.gg/jkMydV3PTB), upon searching "Ivaxa" the only two mentions of the name is from the user Pipecat (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/577365869949354025/1225631393820708914/image0.jpg?ex=6621d52f&is=660f602f&hm=e3589cb93e9ffb2b7c0ef7ffbdedcc3b09df919a7082d11468035ff4f4f6e65e&).
Fact: Guitar to Kodou to Aoi Hoshi: Edge hit at the very edge at 202358 ms (~3 minutes 22 seconds) (https://i.imgur.com/PAWsyh7.png) Similar to the edge hit on FUCK YOU.
Fact + Assumption: FUCK YOU: Very erratic cursor movement at 4485 ms (~4.5 seconds) (https://i.imgur.com/mkRw4Ki.png) combined with his sensitivity and the map’s speed, this is basically impossible. Also he's been under-aiming a lot in this map but that might just be me. There is also an edge hit at the very edge at 60301 ms (~1 min) (https://i.imgur.com/GFxZctS.png), which can be questioned.
Fact + Assumption: Gotta go Fast HDDTHR: The UR bar is acting the same way that was observed with the deceit score from above (Gotta go Fast: https://i.imgur.com/ywA8XAu.png, Deceit: https://imgur.com/cbUtzya). With both maps being 375 BPM with DT, Ivaxa may or may not have used the same method of cheating if he is.
Fact + Assumption: Stream title: #18 #2PL we back boys PL/ENG, at 15:37 mins, Ivaxa is seen to be double tapping 270 bpm streams even though he S ranked the Deceit with DT around three days after said stream (390 BPM).
Fact + Assumption: A Thread created by sampierat on twitter: https://vxtwitter.com/sampierat/status/1775216723743875457?s=20
Pure Speculation: During a congregation, several people have noted/proposed that Ivaxa may or may not be using three keys in order to stream higher bpm’s, using a software that alternates the middle key (since he plays ring-index) between key 1 and key 2 to insure that nothing is suspicious with his tapping count.
Pure Speculation: We condone an anonymous survey inside the mania community, including some of the top players, regular 4k, 7k, and 8k players, and some tournament organizers. Most of the participants agree that Ivaxa’s progression and improvement curve is abnormal.
Pure Speculation: Stream title: #18 #2PL we back boys PL/ENG, within the first hour of the stream, Ivaxa is seen to have completely lost his aim (44:46 min), even though he nearly fc'd Brazil on Fiery's Extreme with HDHRDT ten days prior to the stream. Although this evidence may not be as substantial as the others because of retry spamming Brazil.
Pure Speculation: The earliest known screenshots of Ivaxa grinding The Deceit Pishi's Extra, was on 2023, December 22nd (https://twitter.com/Ivaxaosu/status/1738245663631024453, https://twitter.com/Ivaxaosu/status/1738268599129632811, He later achieved an S rank on 2024, March 31st. He would've grinded the map for the past 3 months, however his play count seems to not reflect the grind, only having 237 plays as of 2024, April 5th (https://i.imgur.com/dg4HdSl.png).
Pure Speculation: https://youtu.be/Isp233epRAA the hands, and tapping technique may be similar to Ivaxa.
Pure Speculation: Potential lead/connection between Ivaxa and Pipecat could be found via steam accounts.
Ivaxa’s has two steam accounts (Both Steam profiles were sent to aknzx at one point):
Pure Speculation: Additional platforms related to Pipecat:
Pure Speculation: Pipecat’s Windows username https://imgur.com/a/DCgtC82 (from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNTTpSl1hHo ) If it could be proven that Ivaxa’s real name is Krzys, it could be a potential lead (despite it being a very popular name in Poland).
Pure Speculation: Pipecat is recording videos on his Youtube channel using both a PC and a Laptop. The PC is running Windows 11, and the Laptop is running Windows 10. This Could be a potential lead.

Verdict

Ivaxa’s single tapping speed is very abnormal, especially considering that he was able to stream 220 BPM in just six days, starting from 191 BPM, all singletapped. His aim on some maps feels weird, and some edge hits are questionable in terms of legitimacy. The incident on his stream on March 31st of this year also felt suspicious and weirdly timed, as if he was covering something up. And Pipecat’s graphs line up in such a way that it seemingly compensated for Ivaxa’s play count, and pp-scatter chart. From the information that was gathered about Ivaxa, there is a likelihood that the player is cheating, via aim assist, partial relax, or a mix of both.
It is suggested/encouraged that you look into this yourself.

Files and Documents

For Ivaxa stream mp4’s, each “part” is in one hour segments (because untwitch). So part 1 would be the first hour of a stream, part 2 would be the second hour of a stream, etc. There are some parts where it didn’t download the full hour, so be aware of that.
We’ve also included one of the “VOD analyzer” test result files, which includes cursor positions from an analyzed stream segment (#11 #2PL 1.3k pp achieved). It was a completely custom-coded solution that analyzed the video frame by frame but it wasn’t used during the investigation, so we are unsure about the accuracy of the cursor detection.

I'm 20 years old and I dropped out of school during the 6th grade
My parent expects me to get my GED sooner or later but I really don't want to study for the GED test because it’s too difficult and I am not sure how you're supposed to study or take notes properly so I just want to give up and do something else

2024.05.16 21:22 Few-Designer-4516 Hells Kitchen Last Chance Season 18th Vote (Episode 18)

With the Chefs down to 4, Nikki noted that she was back to being the rookie again as Paula and Van had been executive Chefs for a combination of 30 years while Nick was a great Chef and Nick said he wanted to see him and Nikki in the final 2 as he felt the 2 of them had come the furthest and been the shining stars of the competition. Van and Paula meanwhile agreed that they wanted to face each other in the final 2 as Paula said she loved Nikki but Van felt like he had been the one to beat from the beginning and Van said Paula was a kickass chef who he'd love to go against in the final. Chef Ramsay welcomed back the final 4 and said he hoped the final 4 had some energy as it was the weekend and they would be cooking for festival goers who had been up all night and wanted a pick me up in the early hours! Nick said this was the challenge for him as he loved cooking small plates and Paula remembered winning a challenge similar to this in Season 5 but that was for michelin starred Chefs not festival goers so she may have to go simple.
The Chefs had to cook 100 small plates each and Nick decided to go with lamb lollipops to keep things small but sexy while Nikki went with pork and miso skewers and felt like this was her challenge to win as she knew her skewers would be delicious. Van went with small duck plates with chimichurri and Paula went with bacon wrapped scallops and Paula was happy to be the only one who went with seafood as the festival goers were looking for something fresh.Chef Ramsay said it was time to announce the results and said that Paula had come last with only 14 votes to win and Paula said she guessed scallops was an epic fail. Ramsay announced Nick as being in 3rd with 18 votes to win and said that the winner was Van with an epic 43 votes to win for his duck bites and Van was on top of the world to not only win an individual challenge but to crush the competition with Nikki in 2nd with 25 votes and way behind the big Texan. Van was given a nice reward to eat lunch with Chef Ramsay as the other 3 black jackets had to prep the kitchen for tonights service as well as wash, peel, zest, and juice citrus fruits at the bar to make sangras for the upcoming dinner service. Nick said he did like Van but wanted to be in the final 3 with Paula and Nikki, and tonight was going to be a huge test for Van as he'd never run the pass in Hells Kitchen.
Chef Ramsay started service and Van on appetizers said that as important as the pass was, he couldn't have a bad service on the line as his first risottos flew out and with Nikki serving perfect scallops, the final 4 had a great start as Nick was told to come to the pass to be the first chef to lead the kitchen. Nick was confident calling the tickets and said he had done the pass before in Hells Kitchen so this shouldn't be an issue but he had a sabotage coming up as Chef Christina swapped a NY strip for a fillet and Nick sent that back straightaway as he knew his steaks by now and told Christina good luck next time! Nick did have issues as Nikki started to drag on lobster and was noted by Ramsay to not be pushing her enough to get faster. Nick's next sabotage was coming up as Jocky helping Paula on garnish served creamed scallions instead of leeks for the duck and Nick completely missed this and wanted to serve them and had to stop with Ramsay pointing out his mistake. Nick did finish his pass in good style but felt he could have done better as Paula came to the pass. Paula did struggle at the start to get a response from the team but after Ramsay told her to bounce back, Paula called out the tickets confidently but had an early sabotage as Marino sent a ticket saying pork which wasn't on the menu. Paula quickly sent this back and said she wasn't fucking about tonight and was quick to point out Nikki's drag on salmon and when Nikki served her salmon it was RAW and Ramsay noted Paula had great quality control as Nikki's refire was accepted. Paula had another sabotage coming up as Christina substituted squash puree for carrot puree but Paula sent that back as well as she knows what this game is about and Paula finished a strong effort at the pass. Van was next up to the run the pass and he said this was something he'd dreamed about to show Hells Kitchen what a true leader was and he confidently called the first tickets. Van had an early sabotage though as Christina substituted turbot for striped bass but Van sent that back and said you don't fuck with Van when it comes to fish! Nick on meat though started to drag on orders of fillet and duck and ended up in an argument with Van over his drag and when Nick served his duck, the skin was burnt on both breasts and sent back. Ramsay told Van the kitchen was stalling now but Van said he wasn't going to send any shit out and when Nick sent his refire duck out it was RAW. Van knew he had to get Nick together and Nick did serve his refire duck but another sabotage was coming as Jocky on appetizers served a carbonara with broad beans rather than peas and Van wanted to send it out with Ramsay telling him to stop. Van's pass did finish with Ramsay congratulating his performance but Van thinking he could have done better with Nikki now on the pass. Nikki lacked experience running the pass and said the first tickets so quickly that no one could understand her. Nikki had an early sabotage of arctic char being served instead of salmon but Nikki sent this back as she was on high alert for any sabotage but the switching of the stations were an issue now as Van took over meat from Nick but there had been no communication as to what was fired and what not. Nikki asked for a time from Van for 3 fillets, 1 duck and 1 lamb but Van noted that Nick had left the meat statuon a complete mess, with burnt duck, not properly seared fillets and shit everywhere so Van said he was 5 minutes behind thanks to Nick with Nick fuming that Van threw him under the bus. Nikki did push Van to get the next steaks out quickly but another sabotage was coming as Nikki received a beef tartare instead of tuna tartare and Nikki failed to check it and was told to stop by Ramsay. Nikki did bounce back to complete the final tickets and Ramsay said everyone had a good service and tonight would be a tough decision!
The final 4 all said tonight was tough but Van was pissed at Nick for how he left the meat station as not only did it make him look like a jackass but fucked Nikki at the pass and Nick was pissed, saying if Van had an issue at the time, he should have said and he'd never intentionally screw anyone. Chef Ramsay welcomed back the final 4 for his decision and said that PAULA was the 1st chef to make it through to the final 3 for having the best pass, the best service tonight and for being a force all season. Ramsay said it was tough now but announced VAN as the 2nd finalist for proving himself as a leader tonight and for ironing out his mistakes from Season 17. With it down to Nick and Nikki, Ramsay announced NIKKI as the 3rd finalist for her incredible determination all season and said NICK had to go in 4th place but praised his perfomance all season and said he was born to cook.
Vote HERE for the chef you don't want to see in the final 2!

2024.05.16 21:21 Ihave1questionplz Baby Coming!🍼I Have POTS! Need Stroller Recommendations!

Hey there! So I have a question for any parents out there! Any advice is welcome! So my wife is pregnant (29weeks)
As a father thats 140lb 5’4”, I am diagnosed with a whole slew of medical issues, POTS, Narcolepsy with Cataplexy, subluxation, costcochondritis, hyper mobility, (No EDS even though all the symptoms are there,(got genetic testing for it and it came up negative))
Anyway! I’m functioning and understand that I’ll have limitations and challenges! Some days I’m wheelchair bound, but I’d like to at least be able to be able to help out by packing up the strolle transferring car seats into the car.
My wife and I are looking at travel systems that have the pram option. But our biggest concern is weight. “Safety 1st Grow and Go 8 in 1” was the one we were looking at. We tested it out and it was light enough. But we wanted to explore more options because we heard it was “uncomfortable for the baby”
TLDR; Any Parents with POTS/disabilities that can give some light Baby Stroller recommendations?

2024.05.16 21:18 jay_o_crest Fire and Ice

Long ago a friend of mine moved to a remote cabin in New England to commune with nature. There was a pond on the property and, it being summer, he went for a refreshing dip every day. Summer turned into fall, and the water got colder. My friend persevered and kept up his daily swim routine. Then came the day that he ventured to the pond and saw a sheet of ice covering it. Undeterred, he found a large rock, broke the ice, and entered the frigid water.
"I learned something very valuable that day," he told me. "When Mother Nature sees fit to cover the water with a barrier that the animals can't get through...she is trying to tell you something."
When I began in astanga I erred on the side of more is better. More flexibility is better. But I eventually learned that's not so. Our joints and muscles aren't simply knots of stiffness that are to be conquered. They all have their inherent barriers and boundaries, set in place by Mother Nature. Learning and practicing each asana isn't simply about going farther into the stretch; they're also about respecting these boundaries.
The million dollar question is how does one know the difference between stiffness to stretch through, and an anatomical boundary that should always be backed away from? I would say the short answer is to trust yourself. You may see advanced students or teachers doing things and think you should do likewise. But if it doesn't feel right, or seems unwise, it's best to err on the side of caution.
For example, when I was beginning astanga I'd often watch my VHS tape of Richard Freeman doing 1st series. No doubt, Freeman is a legend in astanga, one of the most impressive practitioners ever. But I'd see him crank his neck backward when doing prasarita padotanasana. OK, we're supposed to tilt our heads likewise and crank our necks back to the max. Or so I thought. Looking closely at a photo of Freeman in this asana, I see he was actually just doing a very deep upper body backend that only made it appear he was cranking his neck. In other words, Freeman was doing the posture correctly, but I was making a false assumption about how to properly do this asana.
I had a chiropractor friend who told me that most of his yoga patients visit his office because they hurt their necks doing setu bhandasana. And I must say, when I look at Freeman doing this asana, his neck does seem to be at maximum range of natural motion. I never hurt my neck doing yoga, but there's an extremely small difference between doing setu bhandasana correctly and hurting your neck, perhaps for life. The more distal a joint is, the less it feels pain when pushed to its limits. Until snap.
I feel that the same principle applies to heat in yoga practice. Heat is a very useful part of astanga yoga, and over time I've found that the vinyasas can work like heat regulators to provide the correct amount of heat. For example, if the room is cold, a minimum of 5 suryas and perhaps even full vinyasa until one feels hot enough. But when too hot, I found it's best to back off. Though experience I found that if I get too hot, it's time to stop or take a break; if it try to power though the heat, my body will just quit on me. One time I took a class in Hawaii with one of PJ's original students, and she had us doing the entire 1st series with full vinyasa (this basically means coming back into standing after every pose and doing a full surya). It being midday in Hawaii, this cooked me quick! I bowed out of class, which at the time I felt bad about, but it was just too much heat for me.
More heat isn't better. I've seen some people hardly sweat in a room like a sauna, while I was dripping. Speaking of saunas, I recently heard Joe Rogan say that he does an extreme heat sauna every day, at some absurd temperature, just to test his limits. I have great respect for Rogan, but there was another martial artist by name of Bruce Lee who probably died because of too much heat. In any case, I now feel that yoga is much more about working well within my boundaries, rather than trying to crash though those boundaries.
