2024.05.15 08:54 EuphoricScreen8259 AI hype balloon started deflating?

After googleIO and openAI announcements, it's pretty clear, that big tech has no solutions for the fundamental problems infecting AI today, and they both hiding these problems under the carpet with fancy useless demonstrations. Now you can check your car registration plate in your photos. Wow! I know zero people who don't know his car's plate. You can search for emails from school. Wow! I can do that more easily with a simple filter. But now you can play rock-paper-scissors with AI, or introduce your dog to it, or you can walk with a camera, and ask AI completly obvious questions about everyday objects! Amazingly who the fuck cares about these? Also you can do most useful things with a simple classifier AI for years. But you can do dad-jokes, or you can generate rhytmic noise effects, that people can already do for decades.
But you can now translate real time, only bad thing is there were zero benchmarks, zero realistic situations, we don't even know what languages you can use, and how effective the whole thing is. You can use vision, but where are benchmarks, showing how and AI can read a sensor, recognise a thief, or a fire, or anything practical use cases?
Meanwhile, no big tech said they are on a way to make AI more intelligent, more thrustworthy, less hallucinations, etc. These important things are something that they not like to talk about. What is with alignment and safety? Oh, we work on it. Any benchmark about it? No. They have still completly no idea how to solve these fundamental problems.
Why these demonstrations not showed ANY useful usecases that avarage people can use to help his work or his life, etc? Seems generative AI is stay as it is, can be used for niche things in some fields, but stays completly irrelevant for 99% of avarage people.
No suprised that Ilya Sutskever just left openAI. I guess he already realised that to build AGI it needs completly different approaches, but sitting back to the drawing board is not what bigtech wants after invested billons of dollars into sophisticated uncontrollable bullshit generators and work so much to sell the hype that these bullshitgenerators will be magically intelligent in no time.
At least these demos were good to demistify mythologic things like "exponential progress", AGI soon, and other things that AI belivers saying day by day. Instead of these, we had generative AI renessaince with big data, it lasted a short perido of time, we maxed it, and now it's time to realise that we have no innovations in the field, and AGI is still decades or more further if it is possible at all to achieve.

2024.05.15 08:51 Actual_Confusion_646 Shame on Goodwill SoCal

What is happening with Goodwill? About 6 months ago, on a Thursday evening, left the So Cal Atwater store feeling bullied, humiliated, and ganged up on by employees. It was the worst experience in that it has left me traumatized and still reliving it… Had been a customer of this store for years spending thousands of dollars and mostly for charity. Some of the other managers and employees working there can attest, I pretty sure.
That evening, I had been waiting for a cashier to show up to help for about 15-20 minutes, when a new checkout clerk showed up whom I had never seen in that store before, started to ring up the items of the person behind me because his items were placed by her register. When I pointed out to her that it was my turn, she simply ignored me and rolled her eyes. When she started ringing my things, she looked up at me and said “what are you staring at?” She was agitated but not loud. I thought I had misheard and asked her to repeat, and again she said the same thing. That’s when I paused and asked her louder if she had a problem with me.
The manager on duty, who was helping the other cashier for at least 30 minutes with a customer with 5 gigantic bags of clothes to exchange, and while already frustrated, without knowledge of the situation jumped out of her station, and in a loud tone told me to not talk to the cashier in that tone. I told her what had happened, and she had a stone cold look and did not care at all.
Next thing I know, a very aggressive security woman comes over and tells me to “step outside” so she can match my energy implying she will get physical, very eager to show her power in front of everyone without a care about the incident itself. Then the customer exchanging what seemed her and her children’s entire closet, pulls out her camera to film it all as if it’s entertainment while the security guard asks her to film it and pass it along to her for TikTok and is laughing. This happened as I was walking out. That’s when I got upset with the security guard and said if she does that, I will bring a lawsuit and shortly after went back to take pictures of the people involved. Unfortunately, did not catch a pic of the very aggressive and loud security guard. Her picture in an animated pose would be very. These employees were the WORST! Bored and hateful. They have no business dealing with customers. I couldn’t sleep for a week after that I was so shaken up. With my heart racing, after a couple of weeks, on a Saturday, went back to that store knowing that the Saturday staff knows me and treats me with respect. Was wondering if I can somehow get the name of the security guard and file a complaint with Goodwill. Entering, passed the hallway security guard (a different one) and once in the store was greeted by the cashier on duty who knew me as a customer, and I decided to proceed with the shopping and let things go. About 15 to 20 minutes later 2 store employees and a security guard approach me with a piece of paper in hand telling me it’s a traspass warning due to an incident that happened a few weeks ago (referring to part 1 of this story)and that I am banned from that particular store and if I have questions to contact either the head of security or store management. The cashier who approached me with the trespass note said that he knew I was one of the long time and best customers and apologized profusely but said the ban was mandated by the security and that there was nothing he could do. So humiliated and upset and with no former experience in being banned from anywhere, I left contemplating my next steps. I was so angry that I was entertaining the idea of calling an attorney, but decided that instead I would escalate to the people mentioned by the cashier. After going in circles for a few weeks and leaving messages for the retail customer relations representative and receiving no call back, I somehow had the luck of my call being picked up by a HR person who gave me the work cell phone number for the person (Jose Garces) I had left messages for without a response. After leaving a message on his cell and saying I won’t give up, he finally calls me back and gives me the cell phone number for their head of security once I share the story. After leaving multiple messages for the head of security named Joe Suarez, and never getting a call back, called from a blocked number and he picked up. Needless to say, once he finds out who I am, he is very rude on the phone followed by an email from Jose confirming that the ban remains and threatening that if I speak to the employees about this matter, the ban will get extended from a year. So frustrated, I located the email information of their president and CEO. Sent an email to several of them about this horrible experience, and FINALLY, the director of their customer relations called me back and I felt relieved. I believed I can finally talk to someone about this farce of a situation, the injustice and humiliation, and she will set things straight. Her name is Shavone Turner. Boy, was I wrong. She gave me the run around to only do NOTHING. She kept citing vague and illogical excuses why I need to call back. Yesterday she told me to call back in August which would mark 10 months since the incident and 4 procrastinations and requests for my callback. Does she really underestimate people’s intelligence to that degree thinking she can fool them in thinking she is taking action? Shame on Goodwill SoCal. The so called points of contact for escalation related to a bad experience in a retail store or with a power hungry security guard were useless to say the least. I feel they are not there to help anyone, so not sure why they are even identified as points of contact. Donations including mine are wasted on their salaries? Joe Suarez should be fired. People shouldn’t get away with this kind of behavior. People who have their jobs because of others good will… There are many truly hard working and qualifying professionals that could be filling these high paying positions who would actually do their jobs instead of posturing.

2024.05.15 08:27 EncinoJoe Professional photographers printing photos at a retail store

Can anyone explain why professional photographers print their photos at retail stores? I really don’t get it myself. A few days ago this dude gets all bitchy bc the quality of the photo he printed was bad looking. Not only was he basically shrinking a photo from its normal size but apparently he shot it on a 4 thousand dollar camera. My job’s system for photos has zero options for changing customer’s orders. There was another customer who I disliked since she got into a gigantic fit anytime her professional print posters got a single dent and we had to delicately hold them. She was another “professional photographer” who was just rude and was so entitled. She used up all of our counter space to put her prints into a poster frame she bought in store. If these professional photographers are so professional, why don’t they seek out a printer of their own/a service that isn’t in a retail chain.

2024.05.15 07:02 Illustrious-Radio-55 New Toyota Prius vs Tesla Model 3

Specifically, Im thinking about getting either a base Prius LE or Model 3 performance. I would consider the long range or rear wheel drive model 3 but with the tax credit a performance model 3 ends up being only about 7 thousand more than the rear wheel drive one.
So this puts 2 very different cars against each other, The prius LE will cost about 31-32 grand out the door, and the tesla will cost around 55k out the door (taxes in AZ are 5.6%). This is a difference of 23 thousand dollars, and of course one car is all electric and the other is all gas. One has a 0-60 of 3 seconds and the other has a 0-60 of 7 seconds.
But wait… these are just two completely different cars so why even compare? Well, the way I see it… these two cars seem like some of the best deals on the market today. The new Prius is a beautiful, reliable, well-built, very efficient, and proven car that will still be around in decades to come while holding more value compared to electric cars. It’s also funner to drive than the old Prius.
On the other hand, the model 3 performance is likely the best 0-60 for the price on the market today. I know 0-60 isnt everything on a car, but its still very impressive and ultimately im a fan of the software used by teslas and how well it works with your phone. Of course you will also have all the perks and downsides of an EV as well like charging at home and one pedal driving. I also think the model 3 performance looks great, and I find it fun to drive.
The only downside is that its close to double the price of the base Prius, and teslas are not proven to be reliable in the very long term at least not in the same way the prius has. Teslas are less maintenance, but you can expect a large expense if the battery dies out of warranty. This is why hybrids still hold more long term value than evs at this point.
The model 3 rwd is a better comparison to the prius le, but I want to talk about deals here and the lack of of the $7,500 credit makes the performance a much better deal. We could also go with higher trim prius but you lose fuel efficiency and pay more so I find the LE to be a pretty good deal.
Personally, I have driven and love both these cars… but they have different perks and honestly I lean towards the base prius simply because Its half the price of the model 3 performance. Sure I could get the rwd model 3, but its just not as ridiculously fast while still having the downside of battery degradation. Plus the base Prius is still nearly 10k cheaper than the rwd. If money weren’t an issue i’d get the model 3 perfromance, but for now I lean more towards the Prius LE. Plus I really dislike elon and like the build quality of japanese made vehicles, so im leaning towards the new Prius.
But what do you think? Would you get a different trim level or even model of the tesla or the prius, maybe the prime or a model y?
Edit: Forgot to mention I also hate that tesla loves removing features while calling their removal a new “feature”. Cameras are not a replacement for ultrasonic sensors, and haptic wheel “buttons” are not a replacement for a turn signal stock. It’s still fast ass car though, 0-60 in 3 seconds will always put a smile and my face and feel exciting and powerful, otherwise and id have no interest.
Id also love the Prius prime but that car is impossible to find unless the dealer has it marked up to almost 50 thousand dollars making it not worth it at all. Why must all car brands have the goofiest of flaws?

2024.05.15 05:12 MohammadWRLD I messed up but was it my fault?

Some guy came in earlier and bought some drinks and then left as usual. I’m sure he paid with a 10$ bill and I did give him the exact change back. He tells me he doesn’t need the receipt and leaves.
He comes back and claims that I have incorrect change and that he handed me a $50 bill and I didn’t give him the rest of the $40. I knew it was complete bs because I never make big mistakes like these, maybe a few cents or a dollar yeah but not a $40 mistake.
He kept denying that he didn’t give 10 and he actually gave 50, so I was like ok I’ll ask my co worker for what I should do. I explained the situation to her and she shows attitude and is like “ur customer you go help him” and I was like wtf.
Keep in mind I’m a new hire so I’m still learning how everything works.
Then the customer keeps acting rude, then I just call my manager. I tried calling her multiple times but guess what? She doesn’t show up at all! I waited until 10 mins while having the customer yell at me, co worker ignore me, and manager not even show up. I gave up and I was like here’s ur $40.
I was hoping the manager would’ve came and atleast checked the camera or something but nope she never came. (The manager is also rlly rude and useless from past experiences).
Soooo done with retail. Cant wait to find a job in a different industry

2024.05.15 04:55 DryAirline1367 Pre-Owned SUV with $25,000 budget

I am looking to buy a pre-owned SUV with a 25,000 dollar budget. I am currently searching for cars under 50K miles, and a 2019 or newer year. The car would mainly be used for errands around town and commuting to work (50 miles round trip) approx. 1-2 days per week.
Within the $25K budget and <50k mileage, I would be able to get a RAV-4, but it would most likely be a 2019 RAV-4 LE based on my budget, which would be a slightly older car and the lowest RAV-4 trim level .
Within the same price range and mileage, I can get a Mazda CX-5 in the Touring or Grand Touring trim level, and a newer year, probably 2021.
The Mazda seems like a better deal because I would be getting a newer car with more features for around the same price. My main hesitation is that I have only owned Toyota cars in the past (I have previously owned a 1999 Camry and I currently drive a 2010 RAV4). One I buy a car, I am hoping to keep it for as long as possible, so I want a car that is going to be reliable and last a long time.
On the other hand, the Mazda offers more convenience features with the higher trim level, and if I am planning on keeping a car for a long time, I think I would want more of the modern convenience features (my current 2010 RAV4 is missing a lot of modern features like a backup camera).
I am also not 100% sold on getting a RAV4 or a CX-5 if there are other options out there that sound better for my situation. I'm not sure if I should look further into subcompact SUV's like the CHR or CX-30? My partner currently drives a Honda HRV and I think the HRV is spacious enough for the two of us and I find it comfortable to drive, so I am open to the idea of a smaller SUV if it sounds like it would be a better option for my situation.
I am also open to looking at other car brands if there is something that sounds like a better option than Toyota/Mazda.
Overall, my questions are:
  1. Does it make more sense to purchase a base model RAV4 or a higher trim level CX-5 if both vehicles are in the same price range and the mileage is similar?
  2. Are there any other car makes/models that sound like they would be a good fit for me, that I might have overlooked?
  3. Can the CX-5 match the RAV-4 in terms of reliability? As someone who has previously owned 2 Toyotas, I am nervous about possibly switching to a new brand and having reliability issues.

2024.05.15 04:29 EccentricSage81 usb4 type C worse than cheap usb ethernet lan landline1900s phones? (rj11/45/cat8e whatevs)

Ethernet has landline 1900s phones two pairs wires reserved in the spec sheet its 8 or so wires when crimping the ends uses like two with one for ground and one seemingly empty and then has two for phone and some unused, with old 10/100 baseT coax with terminating ends exactly like optical or coax 90s cable TV with optical fiber 99% of the way just your block has coax to the rest which uses the 'same'DOCSIS data over cable standards as fibre optic.. just slightly worse latency and bandwidth is calculated by latency things like wifi lan has like 11 channels or 15 channels of frequency which optical calls wavelengths of light. A 2015 or around there linus tech tips video of him going to a swedish lan party called dreamhack had a bunch of multiple redundant 8Terabit or was it bytes of fibre optic internet they explained with light having 7 colors but having 8terabytes of bandwidth with different wavelengths of light called frequencys or a better term for optics is known as LASER ARRAYS of light at fixed frequencys that often plugs into the PC via ethernet cables or whatever for a gamer lan party or home/residential or small businesses at realistically within budget of anything with enough users to require that bandwidth or 'web hosting or web servers' you dont need to be an undersea cable or international link with 200terabits plus for an internet exchange to your main CBD or the fastest like the netherlands IX...
So the problem im trying to solve is, here in australia we got our undersea cables done wrong they kept breaking and we didnt have a navy or defense force securing our countrys communications to prevent war crimes and keep us connected to the global banking systems or whatever.. and then when our biggest telcos cable or fibre all had dialup speeds for around 2 weeks in the early years 2000s to force us to pay other countrys to connect to their links and be ' end of the line' maybe paywalled or proxied off the internet randsomewared to connect to and borrow bandwidth from other countries satellites and other countries undersea link cables which truly were indestructible to any cruise liner ships anchors whatever being flexible giant steel braided cables big as a CAR when australia finally paid to lay small sections of that stuff to link up to others and not pay randsome to internet butt bandits or have private businesses and multi nationals run their own links and ignore the public our lack of a defense force actually let somalian pirates literally somehow pick up and walk off with our expensive undersea car sized cables filled with a few arms thick of hair thin fibre optics which is cheapest clear resin enamels plastics about $3 not sure if USD per kilometer and resembles modern glass/glazing. How does anybody steal that stuff without people noticing like you cant just load it onto a truck and drive away? or a boat? if only satellites and some sort of defense organization existed to prevent us from being impersonated or whatever.. So now in australia ANYTHING with words like gigabit costs a fortune for a mainboard or switch or ethernet hub.. but the ancient 1900s 10/100 telephone land line wires of ethernet 10/100 clock in at a whopping 13 or so mhz sometimes 27.. and 60 or more mhz for like gigabits and whatever it increases shockingly fast with each mhz clock cycle as its units of work over time in nano seconds or zeptoseconds you see billionths of a second nano second RAM and PC with windows realtime kernel actually uses like ryzen hardware negative latency faster than reality freely syncing with any device in the universe and fixed mhz frequency bus can drive like 50 to 100 or thousands of GPU's and HDDs and monitors or whatever from the one modern multicore PC or whatever.. 90s AMD business server still holds world records for most connected devices though it had stackable CPUs opteron and would have used infinity cache type stuff probably software 3dnow and evolving game worlds tech of 80s and 90s AMD gaming evolved advertising.
So in australia anything gigabits costs hundreds of dollars for a switch router some thousands for lots of ports.. but its the shittiest weakest bandwidth ever with mhz and performance miles short of a raspberry pie or whatever. I had to pay a fortune for a mainboard with 10gigabit LAN port and everytime i got a high speed LAN port its been broken or missing so some pricks can sell ebay routers or switches for thousands here.. not knowing why its so expensive is youre paying fortunes for any real bandwidth because australia has to pay literal somalian pirates for their internet connections or privately owned businesses like telstra for access to their private links and glares at countries like new zealand and hawaii for being super technologically superior.. a cheap USB ethernet adaptor costs under 10 bucks on ebay or whatever and is maybe gigabit and your switches and routers 90% of the time you want the cheapest UNMANAGED switch possible. Yet the mainboard i recently purchased ASUS pro art creator x670E i recall had an issue with some asshats trying to steal pathetic measly 40gigabit USB4 chips from all the boards at the computer store to sell on EBay as other junk, when anything in the universe with an M.2 ULTRA slot does 40gigabits since PCI express 3.0/4.0 as PCI express 3.0 SSD drives famously use a specific I/O controller chip which gives them 38gigabits of the ultra M.2 slots 40gigabits of bandwidth. But for a couple years when AMD had pci express 4.0 and better than M.2 ultra intel was playing catch up on PCI express 3.0 and still had regular m.2 in all their boards until AMD was ready for pci express 5.0 my friend on intel bought the same NVME drives and complained they had corruption errors or issues i later learned his board wasnt fast enough and he was maybe trying to use the samsung magician RAM disk and enable NVME features and functions intel maybe did not yet support.
So.. why is USB 4 so many years late and why is it so dang expensive when terabits of ethernet or anything optical is like the cheapest stuff ever and comes with every internet connection since the 90s at the lowest cheapest mhz and 1900s land line wire telephones ever, remember digital isnt a physical thing and everythings literally analog with a sensor or multimeter whatever mathematically translating it to a graph or algebra equation mapping it into different values digitally +10 -10 whatever using microphones or camera sensor whatever. the gigabits tax and uhh LAN port taxes for dumb gay australians being literally see it via satellite outerspace levels dumb and gay astrogaylian should not apply to the cheapest of raspberry pie free 3d print or laser CNC yourself something computery like risc V for the cheapest of USB flash drives or memory cards etc.
I get intel pretends to have invented court ordered USB to probe their hardware after it was proven to have used other peoples code and chips by the chip makers and them selling computers with keyboard and mouse hardwired in so you bought a whole new computer when a key broke on the keyboard couldnt replace them.. and every other device had USB but theirs didnt free open standard and it kinda being the only way to connect any device in the universe and freely sync with it (mics/phones whatever).
why is 1900s phone tech ethernet so dang expensive to go from 20mhz ranges to 80 or whatever mhz ranges or use something very similar to 90s optical audio SPDIF output or anything remotely like a laser in australia? and who would be dumb and gay enough to be so financially retarded as to think that USB 4 was expensive or special as to steal it? am i... missing something?
also before you complain, but ethernets not the same as USB you cant power over ethernet or use your houses electrical wires as ethernet. You also cant use ethernet for monitors or displays, and its not like you can extend HDMI range limit of a about 10 to 15 meters by swapping its ethernet wires with optical ones for it to maintain its HDMI 0 latency spec or type C USB 0 latency spec. USB lets you connect heaps of devices you cant do that with an internet or ethernet for things like keyboard and mice or monitors or whatever. I understand what you mean power over ethernet or PPOE standards suck theres no way those are a thing. using devices over the internet and not the intranet who does that? thats so dumb. remote administration, theres no such thing youre mistaking malware or rootkits im sure. you cant connect a heap of devices up or entire computers to a ethernet port thats the dumbest gayest thing i've ever heard in my entire life! My gaydar is going off and it looks like the wifi symbol.
when trying to use anything ethernet with lame awful bandwidth thats limited, on my AMD board where the website images show AMD ethernet lists as marvel yukon controller i cannot use as its maybe broken there no light on the back, in devices managers advanced tab you can see the send receive or transmit buffer sizes and countless other ethernet settings are MISSING or a blank space. and are limited to 128 on send and 256 on receive up to 4096 or whatever max. But low latency 128 or 256 is maybe best but not all are an option and most networking features on the intel LAN adapters are missing countless advanced ethernet properties and settings because they're fake and lousy and the worst latency ever and they literally seem to swap your windows kernel out with something not realtime so you cannot ever hope to record or playback audio or video or anything close to a video game in hopes of slowly selling it back to you. Linux distros did this too its the dumbest thing ever that to hear or record or playback or play games you must patch in a realtime kernel for free to game like its the 80s and 90s or DOS or whatever. most 90s PCs were CAS 1 or lower nanoseconds. DDR 3 1600mhz depending the maker might be CAS1-4 latency. How can we verify our kernels are correct? and our ethernet and I/O bandwidth is correct? the youtube video about linus tech tips dream hack lan party of gamers in sweden was edited and reuploaded by illiterate asshat buttpirates maybe from somalia or the ones randsoming us some of their internet connections as a proxy piggy back on the international links as we dont have a defense force or army or whatever and dont know what war crimes are or why they are or what the heck a bank is and sure as shit dont know the cost of anything cheap USB or LAN. The dreamhack linus video falsely shows as 6TERABIT. they wanna steal 2TERABITS of EVERY optical or ethernet devices which isnt the government doing it if they wanna see whats in your computer they can document their reasons of why which is what a warrant is they dont need one if they believe a crime is occuring and literally take the computer by law to inspect it then give it back when nothings wrong they leave you a claim ticket and have you document it at the nearest policing station or whatever fill out forms sign 'they are taking my PC and i can get it back when it wasnt used for crimes." when australia doesnt technically have an internet and doesnt technically have RAID arrays which is required to use USB or SSD or NVME or storage tech with no moving parts and multicore a 2TB SSD is twice as fast and often has 2x 1TB wafer chips in there figure it out the IO controller chip supports many and you can buy the cheapest USB sticks with like 16terabytes of storage space i just see a $extend folder or uhh file format header thingy in the partition in my mainboard bios on that particular drive and using any cheap SSD or USB devices makes linux cry about the partition managers cant write or read extending past the storage limit. it doesnt take a genius to figure out what dumb gay fags the whole internet is.

2024.05.15 03:38 Straight-Tourist-638 [Tenant - US - CA]

Okay so this will be a long one but bear with me. It has been an ongoing situation for more than a year now.
I live in a 2br in a reasonably okay area, I’ve been here since 2018. It’s my 14yr old, myself and my big lab that is fully trained. In 2020 right before the pandemic, a family moved in downstairs (mom, dad, a high school are girl and a younger daughter, sometimes their older son visits). When they first moved in, I introduced myself and after introductions she told me that they thought drug addicts lived up there because of the noise. I apologized and told her it could have been my dog and to please feel comfortable enough to knock if we were ever too loud. We’ve never really talked, just polite greetings when our paths crossed.
Everything has been fine the last couple of years until last March while my 14 yr old was home by herself, she was recording herself doing her makeup and in the video we could hear banging coming from underneath the floor. She texted me about it and I told her that perhaps they were hammering something on the wall. From then on, it never stopped. We’d come in during the daytime and within minutes of it, they would be banging with a broomstick on their ceiling. I contacted management about it and let them know. The manager was surprised but said she’d talk to them about it. I’m not sure what she said or if she did, but it escalated, she went and spoke to a neighbor I get along with well and asked her to speak to me. The neighbor instead spoke to my now boyfriend who doesn’t live with me who was walking my dog. Neighbor downstairs then told my mother in passing that my boyfriend tried to get my (trained and super sweet) lab to bite her. Every single time that she has banged on the ceiling (a rough estimate of 15 times in the last year), I’ve called the security agency and followed up with management the next day. Last October I got a first notice to comply or quit in 3 days. It only gave me the date of the noise but not the time or nature of the noise. I was confused because I’d been working at my desk but figured perhaps I rolled my chair too loud. A month later, security came to my door at 10:30, I spoke to them through my doorbell since I was not home. They said there had been a noise complaint but I explained I wasn’t home and he left. I went to management the next day and she said that the lady had been in there crying and sobbing that we were incessantly making noise and stomping all day and her anxiety was getting bad. Management then asked if there was bad blood between us and I told her I hardly spoke to her since the first time we met. In January of this year, I bought 1/2 inch floor padding and carpeting and put it down all over my living room to try and make the effort to fix the situation before it got worse. I also went out and bought slippers for myself, my daughter and extra for visitors or bf. I sent video and photos to management to prove the modification. The banging stopped but only for about a month. In March, we came home on a Sunday at 1 pm and her door was open as we came up the stairs, she was looking at us from her hallway which made me uncomfortable. Within a minute of walking in, the banging started. I got angry and walked downstairs in plain view of the apartment camera and my own and told her she needed to stop because she had just seen us walk in, I didn’t really hear what else she said to me but I ignored her and went back up. When I went to management the next day, she told me that the downstairs tenant had gone to her apartment on the property crying that I had walked into her apartment and threatened her in front of her child. I was completely shocked and told my manager to review her tapes and gave her the time. She believed me and my mistake was not getting it in writing. She told me that her husband had also been in to complain and her children had gone in with her as well. Then asked me if I really thought they would all lie about the noise. I became more paranoid because now it seemed like management was not believing me about the noise even though I wasn’t home. I complained again after she started banging on the ceiling one morning around 8 while I was getting ready for work. They said a notice would be sent to her. In late April, I was out with friends and got back around midnight. Next morning I had work and when I got back there was a 2nd notice on my door. Along with it, a report from the night security saying that there was a complaint at 11 pm for moving furniture around and another one at 2 am for arguing and screaming but that both times when he approached my apartment, all was dark and quiet. I sent a video to management dragging my heavy coffee table to prove that on my carpet it doesn’t make any noise. I told them I’d been asleep and never heard the door at all. Unfortunately they upheld their 2nd notice. Last Thursday the 9th around 11 pm, I was washing my face getting ready to go to bed and I heard a loud knock. It was security, saying there was a noise complaint and asking if I was okay. I told him everything was fine and that I was just getting ready for bed. I asked if it came from downstairs and he said he could not tell me. The next day (5/10/24) I received a final notice to comply or quit. It states that on the 8th and the 10th there were noise complaints from downstairs. Again no time or nature of disturbances. I called management about it because I wasn’t even home on the 8th and had video of me leaving and coming back around 9 pm. I showered and went to sleep for my 7 am shift next day (I work an hour away). My lease was up April 30th, I emailed them twice in that month about lease renewal and management kept saying that corporate had not sent an offer for me and some other residents.
Again I’ve been there for 6 years, got along with the family that lived there before, get along with neighbors around the complex, I’m friendly with my side neighbors and currently there isn’t anyone on the other side of me. According to the property’s website, the apartment I’m at has a monthly rate of $2600, because of the pandemic and how long I’ve been there, I pay $1960 for mine. In the final notice, there’s also this paragraph that I’m not sure I understand too well since I automatically transferred to a month-to-month lease.
“You are further notified that the Owner hereby elects to declare the forfeiture of your Rental Agreement under which you hold possession of the above-described premises. If you fail to perform or otherwise comply, Owner will institute legal proceedings to recover any sums due plus possession of said premises which could result in a judgment against you and all other residents in possession including attorneys' fees and court costs as allowed by law, plus Owner may recover an additional punitive award of six hundred dollars ($600) in accordance with California law for such unlawful detention.”
I’ve always followed the rules, always complied with anything they asked, I genuinely am not doing anything to this family on purpose. But I am at the point where I don’t have company over, I don’t use my living room past 10, I don’t let my dog play with anything or chew on anything at home. My life feels like it is revolving around keeping the people downstairs happy.
Please, I need all of the advice, insight and help I can get. Thank you in advance!

2024.05.15 03:23 Fit_Development_1173 Can we talk about FedEx

There’s nobody supervising in any useful way. Cameras everywhere, no managers. The guy who packs the trucks says it’s like Severance; he can hear voices occasionally and they see him but he sees nobody all day. Multiple branches have been merged together in a location far from their delivery zone. Training is useless. Things break down and there are no humans to ask for help. The basic technology from routing to loading is schizophrenic. Belts don’t move and nobody on the floor can fix them. The one manager has taken two weeks off to see Dave Grohl.
The worker jokes that when you can’t scan a package you just make a beep beep noise with your mouth and move on. Beep beep. He says that soon he will be liquidated, and that he’s not able to see anything about where your package is.
The customer service front has been closed off and when your vehicle approaches because you’re fed up and want to talk to someone, you get a warning message blared into the parking lot. Going there is, like, illegal now, but it’s still on google maps.
And it’s impossible to call anyone for help; the robot on the line gaslights you. You ask, "Can I talk to a human?” and it says, "Only if you give me a tracking number." You give it your tracking number and it tells you there’s no updates and your package is on its way. It’s not on its way— it’s in a freight yard in Roanoke. You contemplate picking up 74 boxes with a school bus or a Farm Use truck with no mirrors.
You call Kinkos and explain your issue to someone who manages the copier and finally your call gets routed to an actual human in India, someone who invariably will misunderstand you, so your overnighted packaged takes a fortnight and tracks back from Tennessee to Virginia up to Maryland. You paid over a thousand dollars for this.
FedEx was almost my Thirteenth Reason today. I guess this is the consequence of being owned by an Indian man obsessed with AI— or a consequence of not being unionized, or nationalized— but I must ask, how is this company that is insensible and inept valued at twice that of UPS? Nobody gives a fuck across the entire chain of operations.

2024.05.15 02:26 theboredsinger Inconvenient phone break, worth upgrading, wait, or repair?

Basically stepped on my pants which still had my phone and an airtag in the same pocket, and the pressure of my body onto airtag pressed directly onto the front camera + front camera. FaceID and front cam don't work.
Fracture doesn't really impact phone screen - still clear and usable, but those two features are pretty important.
Getting the repairs done by apple is looking to be around 600 dollars, which is ridiculous because I might as well just get a new phone. Does anyone know if a third party could get these repairs done for cheaper? I'd be okay with repairing it if I could be looking at around 300 for glass+frontcam replacement.
Thanks.

2024.05.14 23:24 TaliaHaze Shopper ordered own groceries & returned for them?

Shopper ordered own groceries & returned for them?
Long time lurker, but this just happened yesterday and I'm bewildered and freaked out so thought I'd post. Had a small order of groceries needed. About $35. Set the tip high since it was so small. No communication from the shopper, but at the end, my credit card notified me of an additional charge. Ok. Usually it’s for weight differences, no bother. But the charge was for an additional NINETY-NINE DOLLARS. Get home to find SO MANY items…none of which I ordered.
I contact Kroger and get refunded, no bother. Put the groceries inside and go to pick up my kid from school.
Gets freaky because the shopper contacts me through (I assume) their app (which texts me) and is asking for my address. I ignore it, but she keeps messaging. While I’m in carpool, she RETURNS to my house, asking for the groceries.
Through the camera, she said she delivered to the wrong house. She said, “another lady said that the items in the picture were hers.”
I told her she delivered everything I paid for (wasn’t about to tell her I wasn’t home) She looked back at her friend and said “you were delivered the correct order?” and I replied, “no, it wasn’t the correct order, but it WAS everything I paid for”
She spoke to her friend (I couldn’t hear what she said) and the two of them went off. I was feeling pissed at first and got on here to see if anyone had a similar experience, but now I’m reading that if you have batch orders, it’s easy to get orders mixed up. Any chance this was an accident and I was unnecessarily rude? its reasonable if she accidently delivered me someone’s else’s groceries, but to deliver someone’s groceries AND have me pay for it? How is this possible?

2024.05.14 23:03 Tronator Newcomer to the photography hobby. What camera should I get?

Hello guys, I have been doing some research for the past weeks about photography year and I think im ready to do the jump.
Use for the camera? Photos and videos of my kids and family, school festivals, social events (casually). I also do "keyboard video soundtests on youtube, but even my phone camera works fine. I want to say I would like to bring the camera to travel, but so far I havent really traveled since my kids are just newborns, maybe later in our life we can do family trips.
Budget I would like to stay under $2000 including a decent lens, im just a hobbyist, wont make money out of it, I dont use any photography editor software, might pay lightroom from time to time but I dont have experience. I heard canon kinda edits the photos for you? Might be a plus
Options So far I have come down to 3 options, I dont live in the US, but I will put the prices in american dollars for reference, this is the lowest I have seen the items
Im not planning to get a massive ammount of lenses tbh, maybe I will get 2 for each camera, one for all around use like a 24-70 and a good portrait lens like 50mm.
So thats about it, I probably wont buy a new camera for 5/8 years, I cant be sure, but not in the near future, I guess If i get into the hobby I could buy more lenses, but that is not the case now, so as described earlier, would like 1/2 lenses that even arent the best, I can do general use for my case.
So looking for some general advice about my purchase, I would like one of the smaller cameras, but the a7iii with the lense included is really tempting, but I guess its not worth it if the camera is too big to carry around. I dont want to end up using my phone while having a good camera getting dust

2024.05.14 21:21 ComprehensiveCan8375 Hi!

Hello, I'm a 15 year old who has saved up a thousand dollars and wanted to spend it all on a phone, but my dad gave me three options. Option 1: I buy the phone with my own money (the one I prefer) Option 2: he gives me 500 dollars and I can buy the phone after, but whatever happens I need to have atleast 500 dollars in my account. Option 3: He gives me 500 dollars for my pc and he'll give me a new phone whenever this phone stops functioning. So what should I do?
(P.S I have a pixel 4a which is fine except it's battery life is crap it has a minor crack and the cameras have aged a bit.)

2024.05.14 20:21 Ill_Variation_2480 TTPD's new nickname "Female Rage: The Musical" should upset you.

Edit: If you are going to comment on the length of this post, please don't. This is not a simple snark but rather an actual critical think piece about feminism and Taylor Swift.

Introduction

Pertaining to Taylor Swift, "Female Rage" has deviated from its intended meaning after Swift debuted a new performance of The Tortured Poets Department during the Eras Tour. Now, according to Swift's use of the phrase, female rage is interpreted as public backlash against Swift's dating choices rather than as a response to the broader injustices against women and women's rights. This post examines Taylor Swift's flawed feminism, philanthropy, branding, and the controversial trademark petition for the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical". Swift's background as an entertainer, indeterminate politics, and alignment with capitalism over feminism pervades her legacy, again threatening her public tolerance as not just an individual but as a brand.

Once Upon a Female Rage...

If you were cognizant in the early 2010's, you've heard countless jabs at Taylor Swift in the media. Magazines, radio, or online. Music critics did not take her seriously as a songwriter; parents put a woman on an unrealistic pedestal as the ideal role model for their children; she dated too much and used men as lyrical fodder. No matter the story, it inevitably spread, conjoined with everyone's respective opinions, and you'd be left to wonder, "Why does everyone hate this girl so much?"
Taylor's target demographic has always been young or adolescent girls, more so when Swift herself was one. She made music that spoke to the awkward misfit, cultivating a para-social relationship with fans on MySpace, then later twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, where Taylor posted relatable vlogs showcasing the life of a homegrown American girl. Taylor had a delayed public "growing up" and, compared to her female pop contemporaries, Swift never "gratuitously sexualized her image and seems pathologically averse to controversy" (and, apparently, never even had a sip of alcohol until she turned 21). She was more than happy to spin this narrative to allude to an inherent moral superiority above other women in the industry (Better Than Revenge, heard of it?), engaging in the very slut-shaming that she herself endured (the Madonna and Whore archetypes). The victim complex arose with the need to prove Taylor as a different type of pop girl. Based upon her holy and clean image, Swift had been dubbed "a feminist's nightmare", and that "[To Swift] other girls are obstacles; undeserving enemies who steal Taylor’s soulmates with their bewitching good looks and sexual availability." Feminism and Tennessee-Christian country values don't exactly mix, it seems.
Years later, Swift befriended Lena Dunham and thus experienced white feminism osmosis, where Dunham taught Swift that real feminists defend rapists, makes insensitive jokes about rape and abortion, and prioritize all-white casts. Swift then declared herself a feminist in 2014, saying,
"Becoming friends with Lena – without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for – has made me realize that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so."
I suppose the male-centric songwriting subject that permeates Swift's discography contained covert feminism and that we just didn't see that. Perhaps, the "Bad Blood" song and music video were written only in jest and not about poor Katy Perry, for Swift, as a feminist, would "never make it a girl fight" or tear other women down (though all Katy did was date your terrible ex-boyfriend and allegedly steal three backup dancers from your tour). In 2013, Swift said, in response to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's joke towards her serial dating, "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."
There was that time in 2015 Taylor said that Nicki Minaj was "invited to any stage [she is] on" (as if Taylor expects to have access to every stage, award, and platform that Nicki might not otherwise have as a black female artist...yikes!) in response to Nicki's criticism of the white + thin VMA nominations. Later, Nicki responded with confusion, as Swift continued, "It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..". Of course, this 'beef' was 'squashed' when Nicki performed with Taylor at the VMAs, with Nicki quite literally only having 38 seconds of stage time without Taylor. Maybe all that parading around with a legion of famous white women - similar to the way Taylor might've done with her numerous 1989-era handbags - was in fact a stance against gender inequality, and that this display of "girl power" should be enough to constitute Swift as a feminist icon.
Even while Swift says that Dunham informed her feminist outlook, she dances around the exact contents of those beliefs: "what she believes, what she says, what she stands for" is not exactly insightful towards what beliefs Swift might have inherited. Taylor never broaches women's rights topics such femicide, FGM, forced pregnancy & marriage, sex trafficking, women in slavery, women's financial and political oppression, women's educational rights, women's health, or women's autonomy, so we can assume she only gives a fuck about "girls supporting girls" (whatever that fucking means).
Despite some questionable (and sometimes vindictive) behavior, Taylor as a young woman did not deserve every media lashing that she received. We cannot deny that most headlines and criticisms perpetuated a misogynistic rhetoric which has plagued Swift for a majority of her career. Acknowledging events such as the development of her ED, her sexual assault trial, "Famous" lyric and MV depiction of Taylor, and the explicit Twitter deepfakes, for example, as both disgusting and unfortunate things that happened to a young woman in Hollywood does not negate the fact that Taylor is mostly a performative feminist.

Get Your Fucking Ass Up and Be a Philanthropist, It Seems Like Nobody Wants to Be a Philanthropist These Days

In 2013, Taylor Swift cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. The donation amount - $4 million - was the largest individual artist gift ever donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which is, of course, mentioned on Swift's website. The two-story facility features three classrooms, an instrument room, and an interactive children's exhibit gallery. Swift also performed at "All for the Hall" charity shows and has donated numerous artifacts from her career (such as notable guitars, tour costumes, etc) to the museum.
This was over 11 years ago, and it is still the only notable philanthropic contribution Taylor Swift has made.
For a woman of her net worth and stature, and a woman who recognizes the difficulties for women in film and music, you would think that Taylor Swift might establish a scholarship program for women to study the arts or something. Perhaps Swift might even consider becoming a member of organizations that support female artists, or one that supports LGBTQ+ causes (since she is now proudly an ally), yet she remains superficial with her graces. Broader philanthropy, such as donating relief aid to Palestinian women or women impacted by violence and discrimination will probably never receive any financial support from Miss Swift because then she'd be using her money towards philanthropies involving anyone but white entertainers.
She even says herself in Miss Americana, "My entire moral code as a kid and now is a need to be thought of as 'good'." Well, she's certainly thought of as good, though her actions say otherwise. She's more than happy to do a vaguely altruistic song and dance for a clip-worthy interview quote and mass appeasement, then fuck off to one of her mansions on a 20 minute private jet flight, rather than actually contribute to anything pertaining to the causes she has endorsed. Yet, far too many people continue to give a woman such as her their money, time, and energy, and she hoards these resources to herself.

I Like Some of the Taylor's Songs, But What the Fuck Does She Know About Feminism?

Swift continued with her self-proclaimed feminist campaign, positioning herself as a political activist and LGBTQ+ ally in the Miss Americana documentary. The primary focus of the documentary consists of the sexual assault trial, Andrea Swift's cancer diagnosis, Taylor's ED and body dysmorphia, media scrutiny, and, largely, finally speaking up about her politics publicly, mostly her opposition to the 2018 Tennessee Republican senate candidate, Marsha Blackburn, and Blackburn's beliefs. Swift says, following a scene discussing her experience during the trial,
"I just couldn't really stop thinking about it. And I just thought to myself, next time there is any opportunity to change anything, you had better know what you stand for and what you want to say."
We must ask ourselves, though: when has Swift ever spoken up to change anything? Okay, pulling her entire catalogue from Spotify because they didn't pay their artists enough and similarly pulling her catalogue from Apple Music are changes that she leveraged due to her revenue potential and power, but they are not pertinent to the average woman's rights. Moreover, these are issues that directly impacted Taylor's income, which was enough reason for her to protest in the first place. Swift has sold the most units for a female artist in first week sales, is the first female artist with 100k monthly Spotify listeners, is the first female artist to win the Album of the Year Grammy 4 times, and is the first female artist to do X, Y, and Z, all while being inoffensive and family-friendly to boot. The actual Taylor Swift seems unwilling to compromise the brand of Taylor Swift by contributing in meaningful ways to feminist causes, especially if it is for women outside of America and Hollywood.
The reason political anthems such as "The Man" and "Only the Young" of the Lover era feel disingenuous and corporate is because, well, it is. Taylor has taken every opportunity to advance her career or public image at the expense of other women. What is truly genuine to Taylor's outlook on other women is vying for male attention, taking down female competition, and vocalizing feminist injustices only if they directly impact her and her money. Some will argue that it's satisfactory for a woman with such a huge platform to even TALK about feminism, but that just isn't enough. It's even less impressive when you candidly look at the scope of her feminist lens: "If I was the man, then I'd be THE MAN", or "I really resent the ‘Be careful, buddy, she’s going to write a song about you’ angle, because it trivialises what I do", and, of course, "We all got crowns". Feminism, but only when it happens to me. It gets worse when you look at Taylor's track record of copying other famous women and removing other female artists as potential threats to her pop prowess.
It's good for PR to align yourself with certain blanket feminist and political beliefs, therefore good for branding, therefore good for ticketing and merchandise sales, therefore good for business. And Taylor Swift is a business.
She's not a feminist. Taylor Swift is a capitalist.

I Can't Pay Those Sweatshop Workers a Livable Wage or Benefits! How Else Would I Make My Billions?

Recently, Taylor's team filed to trademark the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical" after Taylor said during Paris N1 of the Eras Tour,
"So you were the first ones to see The Tortured Poets at the Eras Tour...or as I like to call it, 'Female Rage: The Musical'."
This trademark petition was filed last week on Saturday, and news comes about just as numerous unofficial fan-made merch designs have cropped up with this phrase plastered on Fruit of the Loom basics. I'm of the opinion Swift's team motioned for a trademark so that they can send out cease & desists to all those that make knockoff merch, which disrupts potential sales for Bravado, UMG's choice merchandising company; however, since it was filed earlier, perhaps Swift has bigger plans with the bizarre use of the gendered phrase. One Swiftie referred to the phrase "female rage" as "a funny Eras Tour joke". Could it be a possible fourth version of the Eras Tour Movie? Whatever the reason, the motion to capitalize off of such a concept is disgusting, but not unsurprising, for a woman that profits on her vain feminism.
Swift, through her company, TAS Rights Managements, has also trademarked over 200 phrases, including "1989", where she owns the property rights to this calendar year on keychains, phone cases, sunglasses, stationary, bags, beverage ware, clothing, entertainment services, your subconscious, and, of course, Christmas ornaments.
The vapid consumerism in Swiftie culture is, frankly, disgusting. Bravado's sustainability statement is non-existent, the quality control is abysmal, and the materials they use are horrible. The materials, such as acrylic and polyester, are made from petrochemicals. This means they are non-renewable, shed microplastics, and are quite toxic in production. The manufacturing process to make all of those lazy-rushed Eras Tour logo graphic tees is a huge blow to environmental well-being. Apparently, though, Swifties don't give a fuck. They sell out products in seconds and either have to face the manufactured scarcity or buy from a scalper that resells for 200% of the already ridiculous retail price. This doesn't include the environmental impact of vinyl records, CD, and cassette production, of which Taylor produces many variants that sell unsustainable amounts.
If we're talking about women's rights violations, why is no one acknowledging the women that work in the inhumane sweatshop conditions that have to pump out fugly t-shirts and hats? The millions of plastic microfiber dander they are inhaling, or the toxic dyes that touch their bare skin? Are they being compensated fairly for their skilled labour and are they in safe working environments? Do these women have minimal bargaining power, and do they have authority over their worker's rights? Is Taylor Swift female raging at their injustices? Does Taylor Swift ever feels bad that her wealth was built on the backs of women of color, disadvantaged by the demands of the global economy and garment industry? Do you think she ever says a little white feminist prayer for them before she goes to sleep at night?
What's even crazier is not that Taylor herself doesn't care, it's that Swifties don't care. There CANNOT BE ethical billionaires. You only make a billion dollars if you are exploiting other human beings for capital gain. Based on public perception of the possible "Female Rage: The Musical" trademark, it seems like Swifties are already asking for merch with this phrase. "If Taylor made it, I'd buy it." Oh, cool. So not only do you champion Miss Swift's avarice and billionaire status, but you also are unashamed to admit to your blind consumption of her music and merchandise, no matter where they might originate in production or sincerity. Just as Swift takes and takes and takes, Swifties' consumerism of Taylor Swift cannot be quelled.
The tortured artist's most vulnerable and sincere poetry...available now in 21 different versions!

I Am Tortured Poet, Hear Me Whinge

Look - even if Taylor's intention is to characterize TTPD as more "tortured" and "angry", the main thread of the album is "I was ghosted by my decade-long situationship with a controversial indie boy and my fucking stupid fans wrote a 'Speak Up Now' open letter prompting me to drop him" anger, which is adequately expressed in the lyrics and performances. The extent of Taylor's "female rage" on TTPD is on tracks such as "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?", which contends with relentless media scrutiny; "But Daddy I Love Him", where Swift firmly states she'll date whoever she likes no matter how "Sarahs and Hannahs" may react; and "The Albatross", a track mythologizing her reputation and the consequences of dating her. Of course, these coincide with deep psychological wounds that formed during Swift's early years in the media, and so, from her feminist perspective, these subjects tackle the misogyny and double standards that she faced.
Yet Taylor Swift still has no grounds to be claiming that TTPD best exemplifies female rage and therefore she, in the context of this album, is female rage incarnate. As the daughter of a stock broker and mutual fund marketing executive, Taylor was born into wealth and allowed privileges like trips and subsequent relocation to Nashville all so that she might get a record deal. Her father even invested at least $120,000 into the then-fledgling label, Big Machine Records, which ensured Taylor's place with Borchetta after leaving her dead-end development deal with Sony. The fact that her parents were able to buy her a fucking brand new guitar for Christmas and pay for music lessons says so much about the financial security and safety of her childhood.
Money is privilege and protection, and despite Swift's experiences with misogyny and loser boyfriends, she does not know what female rage is.
Her rage is derived from her frustrations with her obsessive fans pulling the moral superiority card on Taylor in response to her rebound with Matty Healy. That's literally it. She's just pissed that the monster she created is no longer obediant, it's become a feral, sovereign entity that depletes the world of its natural resources and thinks it is more intelligent than it actually is because it's mommy has started to talk to it with big words. Apparently, 'illicit', 'elegy', 'nonchalant', and 'precocious' are considerably big words for the oafish monster, and I find it strange that this level of literacy is present in a group of fans that allegedly have GPAs of 3.5 or higher, but I digress.
Taylor Swift has never been one paycheck away from destitution. Taylor Swift has never experienced racial discrimination. She may have instances of gender discrimination, but she possesses the ideal white, blonde American beauty standard and therefore reaps the benefits of being a conventionally attractive woman. Taylor Swift has sufficient social capital. Taylor Swift is a billionaire woman prolonging her victimhood though she, as a woman, has mostly had control over her image and music (unlike her contemporaries). Taylor Swift is NOT entitled to be championed for her "female rage", nor should she be. Taylor Swift has never even been the struggling artist, for fuck's sake. I don't give a fuck if she's trying to fill the empty lunch tables of her past. Taylor Swift purporting herself, her unpolished album, and her lukewarm feminism as a musical bleeding with female rage is asinine.

Sigh Try and Come For My Job, Poors

Out there in the world right now is a 23-year-old woman, a recent college grad, who works as a barista. She has to wake up and get ready to go into a minimum wage job because she cannot get a job in her field. She doesn't have healthcare benefits or sick time, so she has to go into work no matter how she's feeling. All day long she is berated by vicious customers and creepy men, and, exhausted from being on her feet, she knows she has to go home to her shitty roommate that never does the dishes and her roommate's shitty dog. To comfort herself, she considers getting a treat, but thinks against it when she remembers that matcha lattes cost $15 and they taste like milky dirt. She knows that she needs to buy groceries this week, and so the woman resolves to go home, but notices that her gas tank is low. She goes to put gas in the car, but the pump stops at $27.86 because that's all that she has in her checking account. The woman, bereft and reeling, sinks into the driver's seat. "Well," she thinks, her head in her hands, "at least I don't have Taylor Swift's job. I just couldn't imagine."
Fame is somewhat of a choice. If at any moment Taylor feels that she is misunderstood, misconstrued, or overwhelmed by public opinion, she can LEAVE the public eye - Lord knows she has the retirement fund and residuals to do so. In "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart", the TTPD song about meeting the demands of your career-zenith mega-tour while in the relationship trenches, Taylor ends the song by rambling,
"You know you're good when you can even do it with a broken heart...you know you're good...and I'm good, cause I'm miserable, and no one even knows!...try and come for my job."
Yeah, obviously we wouldn't know, you recently passed the billionaire threshold and are the most famous and in-demand performer in the world right now. Taylor Swift makes an estimated $10 to $13 million dollars A NIGHT on the Eras Tour. Furthermore, the Eras Tour movie grossed $261.6 million globally, (which, as the producer, Taylor takes home 57% of the ticket sales) not counting the streaming revenue from Amazon Prime Video and the estimated $75 million deal that Disney paid to have it on Disney+. We're not even considering the income from cheap plastic popcorn buckets and drink cups plastered with colored squares in her Era-specific likeness.
It's funny. Taylor Swift often said that being famous wasn't hard, that she "isn't complaining". I'm sure it is difficult to always have to present in a good mood, else you'll end up misrepresented in the media, and I'm sure it's invasive to virtually have no privacy or semblance of anonymity. Still, Taylor Swift shows up each night of tour and performs. For a majority of her career, she has penned her sad songs while on the road. Most of "Red", her breakup album, was written in the thick of the Speak Now World tour. Now, some Swifties say they almost "feel bad" for attending the Eras Tour with Swift's revelations in this song, that they have had a 'dimmed experience' upon hearing Taylor's misery whilst performing. Despite the fact that Taylor said that "this was the happiest she's ever been" at Gilette Stadium in May, the lyrics "boohoo, woe is me, smile for the cameras and make the fans happy!!!" are jarring for Eras attendees.
While Taylor Swift was making double-digit millions a night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and feeling miserable, Ana Clara Benevides Machado passed away due to heat exposure. The concert promoters, Time For Fun, are now the subject of a criminal investigation due to their lack of adequate hydration and safety. Taylor Swift cancelled the Sunday show that was to follow and offered VIP tent tickets to Benevides Marchado's family, which was a kind gesture, but perhaps incongruous to the incident of which they were offered as consolation. Everyone grieves differently, of course, but I'm not sure attending the very show at the very same venue that my daughter or sister passed away in two days prior, where the singer CONTINUED the show despite her death, would be healthy for closure.
There was no female rage at the show as Swift never saw Benevides Machado pass out. There was no female rage towards the disregard for fans as humans while Swift elected to proceed with her Brazil tour dates despite the country being in historic heatwaves (at risk of overheatting herself). If Taylor Swift was so shaken by touring with a broken heart or a fan's passing, she wouldn't have added an additional North American leg of Eras just two months after the Matty breakup. She's brokenhearted but willing to mend the cracks with your money and move onward with her worldwide female rage induced pillaging.
No matter what happens, even if you die at a Taylor Swift concert, Taylor collects a big fat check and flies away. She doesn't know you as anything other than a conversion rate or earning potential despite what her nearly 20-year long parasocial relationship with fans might otherwise indicate. She knows that, while some Swifties are without disposable income, they feel obligated to spend on a "48 Hours Only!" exclusive vinyl variant instead of necessities because they are so entrenched in Taylor Swift's intoxicating celebrity, they'll prioritize materialistic fandom before their needs. This is good enough for her because this means she can expand her real estate portfolio and finance her cat's lavish lifestyles. They're worth an estimated $100 million dollars. Her three cats could pool their net worth and solve world hunger.
While you and I might be denied bereavement leave and barely surviving the current political and economic climate, Taylor Swift has to, instead of gets to, perform for stadiums at full attendance for three nights in a row across the globe. You and I might be replaced by AI at our longtime jobs, but Taylor Swift is threatened with losing more and more money each time you listen to a "Stolen Version" of her songs. If we don't buy every variant of all of her albums, then who is going to pay for the fucking cats?
It is tone deaf to spend as she spends and lives as she lives in this economy, but this is her reality. She was able to donate $100,000 to all of her tour truck drivers, and that's wonderful, but it leads me to wonder about the ethos of the 2020s where one woman can hoard such life-changing amounts of money. Remember in 2014 when she gave a fan $90 ($120 in today's money) to get Chipotle because she had no fucking clue how much it cost? This is a 34-year-old woman who is increasingly out of touch with the reality for working class people and women in general. Normal everyday adults must wake up and go to their thankless jobs, and yet Taylor Swift, despite all her riches, incessantly references the lows of her life and career as a public figure and entertainer to farm sympathy and drive sales. And still, the corporate women have latched onto "I cry a lot, but I am so productive! It's an art!" as their cubicle battle cry.
Do you think that, from up in her private jet, Taylor Swift gazes at the world through her poetic, tortured eyes, and thinks, "All the little people, in their cars, walking, going about their lives...all those girls that don't support girls...do they know that I've made an album about female rage?"

Conclusion/TLDR

Thank you for reading. I would love to hear your critical insights towards this entire ordeal: TTPD, the trademark, the implications of it all.
TLDR: Taylor Swift is a bad feminist and is delusional to think that the TTPD eras set exemplifies female rage at women's injustice.

2024.05.14 19:38 Hermes_Blanket Trey and Matt, please oh please! You'll never get a better story line for a South Park sequel episode than the Nigeria tour

(I am writing "Nigeria", but Trey and Matt will change that to a fictional country name like Scameria)
Opening: The South Park kids are in school. Their teacher announces that in conjunction with this week's lesson focus on Nigeria, they will watch live footage of a royal tour taking place there. A huge TV is wheeled into the classroom and switched on. Closeup of Meghan grinning like mad as she swans into the Nigerian school in her backless flesh-colored dress and huge African necklace.
Kyle screams, "Noooooo! Not the dumb prince and his stupid wife AGAIN!"
Stan gasps, "Hey Kyle, is she naked??!"
Meghan gives a speech to the Nigerian children in their classroom. It is one long festival of word salad and concludes, "So, in closing, let me just say that I see myself in all of you. If you are authentic and organic, you can grow up to be just like me."
One Nigerian girl whispers to another, "Does she mean we won't be wearing clothes?"
Meghan leaves the school, and walks down the path in front shaking hands with the female staff, all of whom are wearing modest dress, head wraps, and disapproving expressions. She encounters a little girl in a white dress carrying an armful of red roses, who is being shoved toward her by a staff member. Meghan drops to her knees and bear-hugs the little girl while grinning over her shoulder toward TV cameras. When she stands up, the squashed red roses have left two perfect round nipple-like stains on her flesh-colored bodice.
Three teenage male students in the background smirk appreciatively. Meghan, unaware of the stains, bats her eyes at them.
Back at South Park, the teacher jumps in front of the TV. "We'll take a break now!"
At lunch, the kids discuss the royal visit. Kyle says, "Why is she even there? She's not the princess of anything anymore. She says she's 42.35637 percent Nigerian, but she doesn't look anything like those people. And why is she hardly wearing any clothes?" Stan rolls his eyes and says, "Stop whining, Kyle. Just be happy they're not living across the street from you anymore."
The kids are back in the classroom watching more footage of the visit. Meghan is wearing a long yellow gown with a big sash across it that says "BUY ARO JAM". Three kings in Nigerian tribal dress approach, kneel in front of her, and present her with a large nude gold statue of Harry holding a purse, a smoking incense burner, and a box marked "MYRRH".
"Why are you here?" asks Meghan.
"We have seen your star in the East," replies one. The camera pans to the sky, where a large golden dollar sign is shining radiantly like the sun.
Another king unrolls a scroll and reads from it. "We hereby proclaim you Princess Ahmamazing Emu of Gonnachokeyou!"
The third king whips out a laptop and hands it to Meghan. "Here, Princess, this is for you to write your emails about unfreezing your bank accounts. Remember, we get a 20% cut of the profits."
Come on, Trey and Matt! I know you'll have us in stitches again!

2024.05.14 19:32 KipsyCakes How broken bottles shut a pool bar down for an entire weekend

For background, I work at a resort restaurant. Our resort has around 6 restaurants with three also operating pool bars during the summer months. About two years ago or so, my co-worker's husband, Dave, witnessed the before-and-after of a really bizarre situation that resulted in a pool and bar getting shut down for a whole weekend.
Dave worked in the engineering department of our resort and was tasked to do some maintenance on the pool before it opened in a few hours. As he walked in, tools in hand, he noticed a group of men and women in the pool. Now, them being there was beyond strange because the pool's gates were locked so only select employees could access, meaning these people had jumped over the fence to get in. He also noticed as he got closer to them that they were drinking beer from glass bottles and the women were entirely topless. Dave would tell my co-worker that one or two of the guys were looking at these women like hungry wolves, which was really gross to think about. They were also all visibly drunk and loud. Dave walked up to the group and told them that they weren't supposed to be there and they needed to leave. They kind of brushed him off and said it was fine. Dave didn't want to start any trouble so he just said that they just needed to leave before the pool opened and staff showed up before going to do what he was supposed to in the main building. To this day, I don't understand why he didn't call security or someone right then and there, but whatever.
I can't remember how long he was gone for, but when he came out, the group of people were gone. However, what was left behind were countless shards of shattered glass all around and inside the pool. It was like a bomb had dropped and glass of all different colors littered the pool's floor and around the edges. Dave's theory was that the women probably got fed up with the men staring at them and this resulted in bottles being thrown. They probably left right after, probably because even in their drunk states, they either realized swimming in broken glass wasn't safe or that they would be royally screwed if they were caught. Whether or not it was true, how else would so much glass end up in the pool? Dave immediately called security and police got involved since the broken glass was considered vandalism. Unfortunately, by that point in time, the group was long gone and at the time, there were no functioning cameras so no suspects could be identified or charged. No one knew if they were even guests at the resort or people who lived nearby. These people basically got away with it.
It took the resort an entire weekend to clean the pool as it had to be drained, scrubbed top to bottom, and then filled manually before it could be safely reopened for service again.
It was supposed to be a really busy weekend and this particular pool was a staple of the resort, meaning the group cost our resort potentially THOUSANDS of dollars.
Now, I actually didn't know about this story until the day after. On the day of, I was supposed to work a shift at my pool and unfortunately for me, not only did my bartender call in sick with no substitute, but I was also the only other employee scheduled that day. So I was on my own and had to deal with the much larger crowd as best as possible. I did have some bartending experience I learned from my coworkers, but I still struggled to keep up on my own and we didn't have enough staff to spare that day. It was rough, but I made it through. However, I've become very strict about glass being anywhere near my pool ever since.
Also, about a year after, working cameras were installed at every pool. Aside from this incident, I think there were others that led to it being enforced, but still it's nice to have.
I know it should be obvious why shattered glass doesn't belong in an area where 90% of its inhabitants usually walk barefoot, but please don't bring glass into a pool.

2024.05.14 16:14 HisDudeness3008 A spanish university behind german ransom emails?

Edit: upon further searching, the concerned university is not Spanish, but Peruvian. My bad for European-centric thinking.
Hello, everybody! I'm here with my story about an ongoing series of ransom emails I've been receiving. I'm not scared as they are obviously fake, I'm more between entertained and curious.
Let's start from the beginning. I received an email having the low-effort password I use for non-important sites as a subject. The body is a copypasta in German, only having my password, my email address, the amount to pay and the address where to send the money as the customized parts, written in bold. The text, for whoever is curious enough to analyze this absurd story in depth, is the "Hallo, mein perverser Freund" one.
To summarize the content, this self-declared Big Brother or the All-Seeing Eye ("Big Brother oder das alles sehende Auge nennen") claims to have installed an unspecified trojan on an unspecified device of mine, and with that they recorded me pleasuring myself to highly controversial videos using the webcam. They ask for €1200 in Bitcoins with a 48h deadline to stop them from sending those videos to all my email contacts as well as uploading them online.
What's ludicrous about that, aside from how generic the claim is in order to be a little credible for any victim, is they claims they gained access to all my devices by hacking one. In my case, that's even more comedic as my laptop has a killswitch for the webcam (meaning it always had a black piece of plastic obscuring it, since I never use it), while my phone is an Asus Zenfone 6, which has no front camera (the rear camera flips over when you need one). They have been really unlucky with me. Also, How can they film what I've supposedly been watching while engaging in self eroticism with my front camera?
Other criticalities are: I have no contact in my email account, nor in any application I use it with. That's not how people use emails in 2024, unless it is a business account. Plus, they claim the password they displayed as the mail's subject is my email account password. No, it is not. It is just the zero-effort password I used on some websites that have been breached (eg Linux Mint Forums and the defunct Linux Forums among the others) back in 2018-2020 (they sure took their sweet time to decrypt an all-lowercase 10 letter password).
Also, they say they sent the mail form a temporary account. They did not. They used a regular hotmail account, which has been pwned too (the poor sap, which has the misfortune of having a physical address linked to his email address on a google-able website, used the same password for his email and a website that suffered a data breach). They say, judging from my conversations, people think I'm a decent person. I have no human conversations in my email. Just notices of new replies on forums etc.
To get to the title of my post, let's skip to 3 days later (oops, more than 48h). I received another email. This time in English. This time, apparently from my own address (I suppose it is to show they really have access to my email account), even if it doesn't show in my "Sent" folder (if they want to convince me they have access to my account, they shouldn't delete it from there, I think). They say they approved "a new payment schedule" for some random practice number never mentioned before. This time, they talk about Pegasus. I'm honored to know they used a spyware that costs millions of dollars for each license, and that the DEA refused to use because of its high price, on me. Luckily for me, either they are a different party, or they lowered their price. This time, they ask for $850 dollars. I suppose they don't know much about leverage.
Anyway, I opened the email's header. They were lazy enough to modify the "from" field, but not the "return-path" one. What puzzled me? This field appears to be an administrative address belonging to a private-owned Peruvian online university. I have to admit I don't know much about informatics, and I can't tell if that grants the fact that was the true sender behind the fake self-sent email. But the hypothesis alone has me in stitches. Please help me uncover this mystery.
Thank you for your attention!

Introduction to Mold Inspections

Mold inspections are assessments performed to detect the presence of mold in a building. They are usually carried out by professionals trained to identify mold inspection near me and its potential sources. However, there are also ways you can inspect for mold yourself. The goal is to identify mold early to prevent health risks and structural damage.

Why Mold Inspections Are Important

Mold isn't just unsightly—it can pose significant risks to both your health and the structure of your home. Here's why mold inspections are crucial:

Health Risks of Mold

Mold spores can trigger allergies, respiratory issues, and other health problems. If left unchecked, they can worsen asthma, cause skin irritations, and even lead to serious illnesses.

Structural Damage from Mold

Mold can weaken building materials like wood, drywall, and insulation. Over time, this can lead to costly repairs and even structural failure if the mold spreads extensively.

Common Signs of Mold in Your Home

Detecting mold early is key to preventing its spread. Here are some common signs that you might have a mold problem:
Visual Clues
Mold can appear as black, green, white, or even orange spots or patches. It often grows in damp areas, like bathrooms, basements, or around leaky pipes.
Odors and Smells
A musty or earthy odor is a strong indicator of mold. If you notice this smell, it's time to investigate further.
Health Symptoms
If you or your family experience unexplained allergies, respiratory issues, or frequent headaches, it could be a sign of mold exposure.

How to Conduct a Mold Inspection

You can perform a preliminary mold inspection yourself or hire a professional. Here's what you need to know:
DIY Methods
Start by checking areas prone to moisture, like bathrooms, basements, and kitchens. Look for visual signs of mold and use your nose to detect any unusual smells. You can also purchase mold test kits, but their accuracy varies.
Professional Mold Inspectors
Professionals use specialized equipment and techniques to identify mold and its sources. They can also test air quality to determine if mold spores are present.

What to Expect During a Professional Mold Inspection

If you decide to hire a professional, here's what typically happens during a mold inspection:
The Process
The inspector will conduct a thorough visual examination, focusing on areas with moisture or visible mold. They may also take samples for laboratory testing to identify the type of mold present.
Tools and Techniques Used
Professionals use thermal cameras, moisture meters, and air quality monitors to detect mold and its sources. These tools help them identify hidden mold and areas at risk of mold growth.

Understanding Mold Types

Knowing the type of mold in your home can help determine the appropriate course of action. Here are some common types of mold:
Black Mold
Black mold, or Stachybotrys, is one of the most toxic molds. It's often found in damp areas and can cause severe health problems.
Other Common Household Molds
Other types of mold include Aspergillus, Cladosporium, and Penicillium. While not as toxic as black mold, they can still cause health issues and damage to your home.

Preventing Mold in Your Home

Prevention is the best way to avoid the problems caused by mold. Here's how you can keep mold at bay:
Controlling Moisture
Mold thrives in moist environments. Fix leaks promptly, keep gutters clean, and use dehumidifiers in damp areas to reduce moisture levels.
Proper Ventilation
Ensure your home has adequate ventilation, especially in areas prone to moisture like bathrooms and kitchens. Exhaust fans and open windows can help keep air flowing.

Dealing with Mold if Found

If you find mold in your home, it's essential to act quickly to prevent its spread. Here's what you can do:
DIY Removal
Small patches of mold can often be removed with household cleaners and proper safety equipment. Always wear gloves and a mask, and ventilate the area while cleaning.

When to Call the Experts

For larger mold infestations or if the mold is in hard-to-reach places, it's best to call an Alhumd Inspections professional. They have the expertise and equipment to safely remove mold without spreading spores.

Cost of Mold Inspections and Remediation

The cost of mold inspections and remediation can vary depending on several factors. Here's what you need to know:
Factors Affecting Cost

2024.05.14 12:13 SendThisVoidAway18 Got a Note 20 Ultra from Amazon

I have been dicking around with trying to get a Note 20 Ultra from Amazon for the longest time. I have tried the refurbished program SO many times its ridiculous. I finally found a "used - like new," device. And suprisingly, it wasn't from a third party seller, but Amazon's warehouse themselves.
What a difference. Only a few nicks on the top and around the camera ring, and thats it. 300 dollars well spent. "Unlocked," device. Evidently it was originally an AT&T device flashed with factory unlocked software. I'd prefer an actual factory unlocked model, but I guess thats no biggie as functionally its the same and accepted my T-Mobile sim card.
I also have an S21 Ultra which I love. But I sometimes have a need for two devices, and always wanted a Note 20 Ultra. Having an SD card slot back is also killer!

Good morning all,
I am looking for a lavalier microphone to upgrade my voice recording while filming exercise tutorials in the gym with my iPhone. Any recommendation?
Setup: The iPhone is attached to a holdetripod 2-3m away from where I am performing the exercise. I also have a Sony ZV-E 10 camera, it would be nice if it's also compatible with the camera. Records will be made in the gym to showcase exercises. I need to move freely so it's probably best to go wireless?
Some devices I came across but have no experience with one of them: - Rode Wireless Go II

Guo Wengui touted things to the sky all day long, from farms to Xi Yuan, he declared, "Xi Yuan's encryption capabilities and future payments, as well as the future exchange with the US dollar, will create history, is the only stablecoin, floating, modern crypto financial platform." The ant help to fool the head, but after dozens of broken promises, Guo Wengui played a jump god, Tiandry ground branch, Yin and Yang five elements, Qimen Dun Jiqi battle, over and over again to play with the ant help, and Guo Wengui no sense of violation. The old deception hypohypotically called to make comrade-in-arms rich, claimed to be for the benefit of comrade-in-arms, in fact, it is a wave of investment and anal, tried and true, and now again. After the explosion of the Xicin may not be listed, according to normal people's thinking and reaction, must be very annoyed, sad, but Guo Wengui is unusual, talking and laughing, understatement, no stick, but to the camera hand holding pepper sesame chicken to eat with relish, full mouth flow oil! .
