While browsing some random conspiracy site, I found what is a supposedly leaked file from the Nevada County Sheriff's Department; however, nothing has been confirmed. According to the OP, it is believed the following is the personal account of a 21 year old Jonathan Ashford of Grass Valley, California. Normally I would write stuff like this off but this one is...different. I’ve done my best to correct most of the grammar and misspelling while at the same time trying to avoid skewing the original account.

I’ve never really been an outdoor person. Well, I guess that’s because I’ve never really been outdoors much in the first place. And that’s because I guess…I've never been invited? I don’t really have any friends. So, needless to say, I was surprised to find myself on a backpacking trip with a group of 5 other students from my university. The plan was five days in Tahoe National Forest some place called Mystery Lake. Monday-Friday. I don’t know why they decided to do it during the week. Most of us had okay grades at best and part time jobs on the side so taking a week off of it all seemed at the very least a bit irresponsible; and yet, I went anyway. Listen, I didn’t plan it, okay? This was one of my only chances to get to know people. The hike wasn’t too long but my genius self who had only been backpacking once when I was around 9 years old or so decided to carry 60 pounds of bullshit up the mountain resulting in my shoulders being sore and raw for the foreseeable future.

To be honest, I don’t really know why they let me come with them. I only know one of them and the group has been ignoring me for pretty much the entire trip. I was always bringing up the back on the hike in and I set up my tent outside of the main camp behind some trees. I haven’t eaten any meals with them or talked to them or, now that I think about it, anything really. Regardless. The trip has been an experience. Hopefully things get more exciting tomorrow.

I’ve only ever slept in a tent a couple times so the new environment and lack of sleeping pills resulted in quite a restless night. I woke up at about eleven; everyone else was gone. I remembered they were talking about a day hike on a trail headed north so assuming that’s where they went, I hurried to get dressed and grabbed some granola bars. I’m about to head out. I hope I find them.

I’d been briskly walking for around an hour and was feeling quite exhausted so when I heard the group’s voices off in the distance I was very relieved. I started to jog in their direction when–when this jolt or–wave of energy flooded my mind. My head instantly started throbbing and my vision went blurry. The best way I could describe it is–TV static? Like the old TVs that would go all staticky when the signal got bad. I could barely make out shapes and a space in the middle of my vision was especially dark to the point where I couldn’t see past it. That wasn’t the worst of it, though. God no, if only I was that lucky. I can still hear the shrieking. That goddamn shrieking. In an instant all I could hear was this sharp, scratchy shrieking. It pierced through my ears and rooted itself in my head. I think I cried out in pain but even if I did I couldn’t have heard it. It was as if the damned souls of hell all cried out in eternal pain all at once and begged for death. I gripped and pulled at my hair, hardly noticing the pain that resulted from it as I fell to my knees in agony before…
I slowly opened my eyes. My head hurt and there was a slight buzzing in my ears. I lay in a pile of ivy next to a fallen log, my back dampened from the cool soil beneath me. I stood up, the hill on which I previously stood was nowhere in sight. As I leaned my shoulder against a tree to steady myself I heard voices. Cautiously, I walked through the foliage as the low vines dragged along my ankles. As I walked, I looked up. The falling sun cast a soft orange glow across the sky. It was probably around five O’clock or so. I climbed up on a large rock only to realize I was near the main camp. I pin-pointed the voices of my fellow campers as they huddled around a low-burning campfire. As I sat down to listen to them speak I could sense a strong feeling of uneasiness resonating from the group. Then it hit me.
“Are you sure you haven’t seen her since earlier this afternoon?” One of them said, I think his name was Matthew? He was tall and lean, by far the tallest in the group.
“I’m sure! It just doesn’t make sense. One minute she was behind me going on about who knows what and then the next when I turn around she’s gone!” A girl with light brown hair said. I didn’t know her name. I could see tears forming at the corner of her eyes as the wind blew her hair into her face.
“We need to find her before it gets dark. Groups of two; stick together!” A shorter man with brown hair said. Ryan. He was the only one I knew. We weren’t friends. Definitely not. But he was nice enough to me in the classes we had together and I was grateful that I was able to go on the trip with him. As he walked past the boulder I sat beside, paying me no mind, I saw his lower lip quiver as his wide eyes looked straight ahead. He was more nervous than he led on. I zoned out for a few seconds, the static from earlier crawling its way into the corners of my vision when a chipmunk climbing a tree snapped me back to reality and I realized I had been left at camp. I looked around at the tall forest but the group was nowhere in sight. I assumed they wanted me to wait at camp in case the missing girl, Alice, came back, but as I moved toward the dying campfire the call of nature occupied my thoughts. I found a spade and a roll of toilet paper and strode briskly into the forest, the cool Autumn air rushing against my chapped lips as I walked. I reached over to scratch an itch on my arm when I saw it.
“The fuck?” I wondered out loud. There on my upper forearm was…a bite mark. I rattled my brain trying to think what could have made that kind of mark. As I examined it more I confirmed my suspicions. It seemed human. At least I think it was human. It’s not like there are any goddamn monkeys native to Middle of Nowhere, California. There was also a dark purple bruise on my lower forearm. Didn’t remember getting that either.
I looked around for a good spot. Stepping over a log, I set my foot down on something soft. It was Alice. Her right hand crushed and mangled and a dried trickle of blood at the corner of her mouth had pooled on a flattened leaf. I screamed, tripping and falling back in the direction I hoped was the camp. As I jumped over a rock I landed hard on my left ankle as a streak of pain shot up through my body. I was trying to get back up when I heard it. The screeching. It steadily yet quickly faded in until it flooded my hearing. My vision was clouded by that same static. I curled up into a ball, kicking at the air. My eyes watered and I felt the urge to vomit…
A wave of dizziness hit me as I opened my eyes and fell on my tailbone, pain shooting up my back. I lay down on my back and looked up at the trees, my nose bloody. It was still dark. Had I been standing? I tried to recall what I had been doing but all I remembered were faded images. One thing I didn’t forget was the screeching. All that I could remember was covered by that screeching and a faint veil of that static. Just thinking about it made my head throb.
A groan. I nearly jumped out of my skin as I turned to look in the sound’s direction. It was David. He looked injured, lying on the ground, but quickly crawled back in what looked like fear when he saw me.
“You bitch!” He muttered between gritted teeth. Before I could react he was up on his feet charging in my direction. I tried to doge him but the wind was quickly knocked out of me as he headbutted me in the stomach. I fell back onto the ground and between coughs I saw him running towards me. Before he could deliver a heavy stomp to my chest I caught his foot and kicked up into his groin. He stumbled back with a low yelp of pain and, taking my chance while he was stunned, I stood up as fast as I could and prepared to block another attack. He ran up to me and attempted to deliver a blow to my stomach with his right fist, leaving his upper body undefended; I used the opportunity to send a hard punch into the side of his neck. He fell back choking, tears in his eyes. As he tried to sit down he tripped on a root and hit his head on a nearby boulder with a sickening crack. He squirmed for a moment, then nothing.
Silence. There was a faint red stain on the side of the rock, and beneath his blood-stained hair, his head seemed unnervingly misshapen. The closer I looked, the more I saw. Bruised neck, flowing blood, even some pinkish bone exposed near the worst of the damage to his skull. The fall must’ve been worse than I thought. Why would he attack me? What was wrong with him? Had he mistaken me for someone else? I sat against the blood-stained boulder and leaned my head back. I’m exhausted. Everything hurts. My ankle is throbbing. I can’t remember how long it’s been since I’ve slept and I don’t know what to do. I should probably go try to find the camp but…I’m too tired. I think I’m going to go to sleep now.

I slept through the entire day and most of the night! Or, at least I think I did. The more I think about it I’m not so sure. It’s like 2:30 AM, glad my phone still works even if my brain doesn’t, just wish I had signal. I’m not sure what to do but I might try to go find

Something’s definitely out here with us. Or–me. Not sure how many of the others are left out here. I’m sure that shrieking is tied to something. I heard something off in the distance while writing and decided to go check it out. It was Matthew and that other girl. They were walking briskly and their eyes seemed to be darting around frantically. They were talking in hushed tones but from what I heard they found Alice's body, and they were worried. I was about to reveal myself to them when the shrieking came back. It hit me like a train, and sometimes I think a train would have hurt less. It felt like it lasted for hours, I bit a hole through my lip and fell off of the boulder I was sitting on. I couldn’t see anything except a dark patch of static in the middle of my vision surrounded by more static. All the cuts and bruises in my body seemed to amplify and I could barely breathe. I just wanted it to stop but it wouldn’t. It wouldn’t stop.
The two were dead when I came to. I wasn’t much better off myself. No matter how much I spit I can’t get the taste of blood out of my mouth. My arms are covered in cuts and bruises and my shoulder was dislocated. That was a fun half hour figuring out how to put it back in place. I think whatever is out here with us clouds your vision and makes it impossible to hear anything as a way to hunt you. I’m amazed it hasn’t killed me yet. I hope Ryan is still out there.

It’s been a long night. A really long night. I found Ryan but–but now I wish I hadn’t. It was around five AM I think, I had been aimlessly wandering through the forest looking for something, anything. By the most unlucky luck Ryan came stumbling around a tree. When he saw me his eyes went wide.
“Jon, what the hell?” Then he squinted his eyes and seemed to notice the wounds on my arm.
“Oh god,” he said. Then, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small knife, glaring at me during the process. Before I could reply, he charged me, knife in hand. I–I didn't want to kill him. I really didn’t. He tackled me to the ground, forcing the knife close to my chest. I desperately tried to push him away and being the stronger one, I knocked him off me. As he hurried to get back on top of me I sent my right leg flying into his arm, knocking the knife from his hand. Before he realized what was happening I grabbed the knife from the ground. In what seemed like a last desperate attempt he tried to force me down again but, already having the knife in my hand, I quickly slashed his chest and one of his wrists without thinking. I didn’t want to do it. I didn’t mean to kill him! I was just defending myself. I don’t know why he attacked me, what’s gotten into him and David? Is that thing controlling them? They didn’t seem like they were under some kind of spell…I don’t think so at least.
After a soft cry of pain he collapsed and rolled down the steep hill we were standing on. I didn’t bother looking for his body. No point. Odds are that thing would use his body as a trap for me or something. I don’t know anymore.
Somehow I found my way back. I don’t remember how, all I remember is collapsing against a tree out of exhaustion but, here I am at the trailhead. I guess my half dead brain forgot most of it. I don’t know what I’ll do now, I don’t think I’ll tell the police. If they hear that some creepy ghost creature is hiding out in the forest killing my friends I’ll probably get locked up in who the fuck knows where for who the fuck knows what. But, no matter how many or how few believe me, I know something is out there. And I know it’s dangerous. I doubt the bodies will ever be found. That forest is huge and I buried Matthew and Elizabeth, found her name in a backpack she had on.
This will be my last entry. My name is Jonathan Ashford, and I survived something dangerous in the Tahoe national forest. Whatever you do, do not go there. Goodbye.

Ryan survived. The police are after me. Apparently he told them I stalked them in the forest and picked them off when they weren’t together. I don’t know what’s happening. There are some gaps in my memory but I know that I didn’t kill those people. I only killed David, and that was self defense. I’m not sure what I’ll do. The police don’t know where I am but I’m sure that won’t last long.

I saw an interview with Ryan on the local news while browsing channels. He seemed–off. There were bags under his eyes and his skin was pale. He seemed nervous, shaky. I hope he’s ok. I still don’t understand why he thinks I killed them.

ok ok. I have a theory. I’ve been up all night thinking and it makes so much sense now. That thing can shriek. Terrifying right? But explainable. The static I still can’t make sense of, there’s no feasible way it could naturally do that. What if whatever supernatural force causes the static can also control people? Maybe that’s why Ryan looks so crazy. It must be controlling him. But why would it want me? Am I immune to its effects? Maybe.

They didn’t notice it. It didn’t hit them. When I was spying on Matthew and Elizabeth, right before they were–anyways.
The shrieking hit my ears before the static hit my eyes and in those few seconds, they didn’t notice. It didn’t affect them. They didn’t hear the shrieking. Maybe the shrieking is that monster thing's abilities failing to control me. Maybe that's why ryan-whatever’s controlling Ryan wants me. It’s because I’m a threat to it. Because It can’t control me. When I woke up I was injured, but never killed like the others. Maybe it doesn’t have as much power over me as others.
But why would the authorities believe Ryan? There’s no way his story can add up. Even if that creature, that thing, is intelligent, it can’t be that smart to fake a story. Why are they after me?

The police came by today. I was about to update this log again when they started banging on my door. I was able to sneak out a window before they noticed me, glad I live on the ground floor.
Something seemed off about them. I can’t say what but, something, like the uncanny valley effect, where something looks human but isn't. Whatever. It’s probably just my imagination. I need sleep.

Something is wrong–something is definitely wrong. How did they find me? Holy shit that was close! I was dozing by a couple of dumpsters behind a gas station. Figured it was safe enough since it was out of the way and partly blocked by a fence until I heard dogs barking. Not sure how many of them there are, at least two–maybe three, I can still hear them barking. I figured they were just strays that would hopefully leave me alone until I saw the lights. Damn things half-blinded me!
“Son, what are you doing back here? Can we walk to you?” one of the officers said, his face was clammy and pale, he seemed tired, he seemed–off. I didn’t respond or wait for them to try and get closer, I dashed past them before they could call their dogs on me and jumped the fence, running into the tree line. I managed to climb my way up a tree a ways into the woods before they could get around the fence and send their dogs out. They haven’t found me yet, but they’re still looking for me. I can see their flashlights periodically bathing the tree line in a pale glow. I think I’ll try to wait them out and then climb down and run for as long as I can. Not sure where I’ll go yet but they keep finding me so I’ll have to get creative. Not sure how they’re finding me so quickly and easily, but maybe I can come up with something. Is that–thing finding me? Does it always know where I am? Is it controlling the police? Maybe that's why they looked so…wrong. I don’t know. I’m starting to think I don’t know anything anymore. I keep noticing the static in the corner of my vision occasionally, not sure why.

I fucked up. Big time. Last night, somehow, I fell asleep. I don’t know how, guess I was just too exhausted. The sound of a helicopter pierced through the top of the tree line. Before I could register everything, I slipped and fell down the tree. I was able to slow my fall a bit by dragging my hands along the tree–hurt like a bitch–but I still landed hard. Can barely sit down. I think I was able to avoid being detected by the helicopter. I’m going to start walking. Not sure where but, I need to go somewhere. The static is constantly in the corner of my vision whenever I focus on it now. Why is this happening?

This doesn’t make any sense, I don’t know what's happening anymore! I was wandering through the forest when the static came back. God, it was awful, forgot how bad it was. Hell, maybe it was worse this time. Who knows. This isn’t the weirdest, or worst, part. I woke up in my apartment, I’m exhausted, but don’t have any new visible injuries despite how shitty I feel. Not sure why that thing didn’t try to hurt me, maybe it gave up on trying.
The news was on when I woke up, God I’m so fucked. They found the bodies–the ones that I buried. Of course they found my DNA all over them, used their forensics or whatever to try to explain how I killed everyone. I’ll have to admit if it wasn’t all a setup by some evil entity out to get me it would be pretty convincing. Sometimes–I find myself believing it. I don’t know what to think at this point, nothing makes sense anymore. The static is far more noticeable now. My head is starting to hurt, too.
They haven’t come back to my apartment yet, probably don’t think I would return this soon after they searched the place. I know they’ll be here eventually but I’m too tired to care right now. My brother and his kids used to live a few hours out of town, I think he built a treehouse for his kids somewhere behind the house. Maybe I’ll go try and hide out there for as long as I can. As if that will be very long at all.

Everywhere I look, everything I watch. They’re always out for me. Everyone is looking for me. The things the police and the media keep saying about me–the evidence that gets released every day, the testimonies, officials saying I have symptoms of psychological problems like psychosis and DID, of Bipolar. More and more–I’m starting to believe it myself. Surely it's that thing. Surely it’s getting in my head…right?

Made it to the treehouse, glad it’s still here. Had a few close calls along the way when trying to steal food from gas stations but I made it ok. Glad I did, the static is starting to really cloud my vision and my head hurts so bad my ears are starting to ring. I’m not out of the woods yet, that’s for sure. I can sense them...it. They’re trailing me. I think they’re getting close.
I’m so tired, so confused. I don’t know what to do, what to think anymore. What’s next? Maybe I’ll try to get some rest…if I can, that is.
I could try to come up with something, some silver bullet or whatever. I have this one idea, it’s not smart or clever, not even close, but it’s an idea, and it won’t let it–them–it, whatever, win. At least I don’t think it will; besides, surely it has a bigger plan for me, right? There’s no way it would go through all this effort just to kill me…

They’re at the base of the tree now. The static has almost completely consumed my vision and my head feels like it’s about to explode. I don’t know what’s real and what’s not anymore. I’m not sure why I was made the target of this, why this is happening to me at all, but regardless of the reason, I won’t let them win.

Aside from some generic legal stuff to conclude the report, that’s where the document ends. I’m not sure what to make of it. Definitely a lot to take in. I contacted the OP on the site I got this from but haven’t received a response yet, will update if I receive one. For now my only advice is be careful, and don’t go backpacking in Tahoe National Forest. If anyone has any thoughts or info, please, let me know.

Issue 1.) I can't seem to find where to turn off predictive text which throws down my e.mail address (amount other things, but that's the worst) if I type in the word. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?
Issue 2.) This actually came about an update or two prior, but now it's driving me crazy. At midnight, or thereabouts, my phone will take over controlling Spotify. I've looked at all my Google Home/Assistant routines, nada; Samsung Bixby is disabled. DND is straight up no sounds except calls/messages from starred contacts.
May or may not be related, but when I crate the puppy, the playlist I often use is already playing on the Google Home device by her crate. Within the past month, around midnight, my volume controls take over controlling the Google Home device. There is nothing showing up in the phone's background, I've not had success with separating media device sounds; the only thing that seems to work is restarting my phone which is a pain.

I can't find too much if anything similar to my experience. I'm wondering if anyone heard about this and any advice?
About 6 months ago I got a call on my phone from RBC on the call display. It was spoofed but I didn't know it. The person on the phone asked me if I used my debit card to purchase an iphone in Ontario. I said no, and he said it's not a problem these things happen all the time, they will cancel the purchase and send me a new card.
This is not too out of the ordinary for me as I had my credit card have unauthorized purchases several times in the past. The weird thing was this time it was a debit card.
Then he said he can not ask my debit card number but a recording will follow and I should key in my debit card number. This was my major mistake. I know never to give a credit card number, PIN or password but for some reason I never thought of my debit card number to be a major issue. Like what if I lost it?
Anyway after I did that he came back and I asked him to mail the new one to my bank. He said no he would mail it to my home and told me my very old address. I told him no, it's unacceptable mail it to my bank branch like always. He then hung up on me. I didn't give any other info.
Minutes later I got an email from RBC saying my password has been changed! Then another saying my email has been changed. I quickly tried to login and couldn't so I called RBC Security.
As I was talking my email inbox got 1000's of email newsletter sign up confirmations per hour. About 12 000 in total by the next morning. It's a business email so it ruined everything and I couldn't find legit emails but that's besides the point.
The goal of doing that is because it was their hopes I would not see the emails from RBC.....but lucky they came first. it's called a Spam Bomb.
RBC Security said they would help me change my password back and I was able to reset it. Only minutes later while still on the phone....I had logged out and then tried to log back in....And he said this is strange. he put me on hold. He said there was someone on another call with the call centre claiming to be me and getting the password changed! He somehow was passing all the authentication and fooling the agent into changing the password.
So he put a block on the account meaning nobody can call in. Not even me. No passwords or access codes, nothing. The only way I could deal with RBC is going into the branch.
No money went missing. I guess I caught it just in time. Nothing was changed in my accounts. But I still cancelled all my credit cards and got new ones. And I got new account numbers for my bank accounts.
As I had to do this at the branch it took several visits and anytime I needed to ask a question Id have to go in person. I changed my phone number and even to do this in the back end systems beyond online banking I had to make an appointment. Fun fact RBC has to wait on hold forever also, no special access lines.
After changing my accounts I changed my phone number because they kept calling back. Changing your phone number nowadays is a major undertaking as I have 100's of websites many with 2 factor auth that I had to change. I also changed all my passwords unique without any matching.
After all this....I travelled to Japan. In fact I travel 6 months of the year to many countries. I decided to log into my online banking using a VPN. Big mistake. The system thought I was fraud and it locked me out. And I can't call! Luckily I have an account manager who knows me well and we could verify that way but most people don't have this.
Another time my debit cards weren't working anywhere in The Philippines and I couldn't call in. It was Christmas and my account manager wasn't available for 4 days. I had no cash. What a disaster.
So when I got home....I had to take this call block off. It's just not working. It had already been 2.5 months and my computer was factory reset, I purchased a new phone. I had really done everything I could.
I travelled to several countries and no problems, everything is working normal and perfect.
I take security very seriously to the point of paranoia. And I also know all the scams. I don't get fooled easily and used to have a hobby to mess with the scammers heads. But even this I don't do anymore because they probably put me on some sort of list or something.
Since then Ive been very private.
Then yesterday....I get an email saying my email has been changed. Lucky no spam bomb. I tried to log into RBC and it didn't say wrong password, it said account it locked.
I called RBC Security and they said I need to go into the branch with ID and they wouldn't talk to me.
I did so. They said someone called in and passed the verification. And convinced RBC to reset my password for them. This is infuriating because there are notes saying that I am a victim of account take over and to proceed with caution.
Again no money is missing but I need to change all my accounts and cards again. And I'm leaving to Africa in a few weeks.
I now have that call block on the system and can't release it otherwise the scammers will just call back and convince RBC to change my password again. What can I do about this?
I had the idea to change my debit card number. They will change the account numbers and credit card numbers but not the debit card number. Changing this number I think will solve all my problems. But no matter how far I escalated this. They won't do it. Not a chance. To me it seems the most logical way to start fresh as they are using that info to the agent.
So I opened a new account with another bank. I'll use this as a travel account and fund it with what I need. But with RBC I have many investment accounts, business accounts, several high end credit cards. You name it. And TD banks credit card for travel doesn't seem to match the power of RBC Avion which I accumulate tons of points with my business. Which is why I can travel so much! So in other words it's not easy to switch.
But anyway Does anyone know how they are passing the authentication so easy? Nobody knows my 3 secret phrases. Not even my wife. RBC usually have voice authentication, I guess that failed. Or they recorded me?
And also the hacker originally repeated my old address but I never gave a new one. When I do call RBC they usually ask my address and things about my account that I am likely only to know. It's so strange.
How can I get out of this mess?
Does anyone have any success having their physical debit card number changed? Any other advice?
I feel one day if this keeps happening I could be out money.
Would I be protected and refunded?
While I admit I did get fooled into giving my debit card number it wasn't my pin or password and they were the ones who tricked RBC over and over. And Ive taken all reasonable preacuations to secure my account since then.
However having this severely restricted account where I can't call in and since I travel 6 months per year as you can imagine I can't do this long term.

I'm currently on a 8GB capped $40 endless data plan with Skinny. It runs on endless reduced speeds after using up 8GB of max speeds. The reduced speeds for me are around 1.3MB download which doesn't support very much beyond web searching. I can't really watch videos on youtube, stream movies, or scroll through social media once I'm on reduced speeds because any video content takes ages to buffer. I can buy data binge packs for max speeds again if I know I'm going to need it but it doesn't support hotspotting and only lasts 12 hours max for $5. Not sure if thats entirely worth paying seeing as I'd probably need to use max speeds everyday. I ripped through the 8GB in about a week and that was without gaming for the first 4 days? I've had my hotspot on during the night this week because my parents have a new curfew on our broadband at about 10pm, not much I can do about that lol.
I realized 8GB isn't enough to last me a months worth of usage and was thinking about changing to another service provider that had unlimited uncapped data plans instead. Skinny's most expensive endless data plan still has a cap on it with $70/m for max speeds up to 80GB. Then it will reduce back to 1.3MB~ download. I'm not sure if thats enough to last me a month with extensive use like gaming and watching movies, I don't use data often so I actually have zero understanding of how much value you can get out of 80GB. Is that a lot? Would I need more? I don't know...
I'm almost looking for an unlimited uncapped data plan that gives out the same value as a broadband plan, not sure if thats silly. I paid for my family's fibre broadband at our old house for 2 years which was between $80-70/m switching between the two fastest plans skinny offered, so I can afford a more expensive data pack, I just need it to last as long as the month I'm paying for lol. I don't need huge download speeds like fibre broadband can provide. I can play online games smoothly with the max speeds skinny provides, I think I get like max 14MB on my phone, same on my laptop, and then 5MB on my playstation when hotspotting. I'm not worried about getting more than those speeds.
You might suggest I just get a separate broadband plan in the house, but we've moved to a rural area and our house isn't offered the same broadband plans as our old one. We don't have fibre or wireless broadband available in our area, just plain adsl/vdsl which didn't even work when we tried installing our modem (don't know why), so my parents and all my siblings pitch in for starlink now. It's just my parents choice to turn it off during the night and they say if we want we can buy our own data to use during the night.
Anyway, I've been looking at some other providers like Spark and One NZ that offer unlimited uncapped data plans. My main question is does anybody have any reviews on either of the plans these providers have? Whats it like for you if you use them? Is it worth it for you and why? I've read a couple reviews on One NZ's service that are reeeeally bad with people complaining about how fast they rip through their data plans and are reduced to super slow speeds within minutes of using their data, which is very suspicous. So I'm reluctant about switching to them. There aren't any specific reviews on either of the providers' UNcapped plans though, reviews I've seen are on capped plans only so I'm reaching out on this in hopes to find someone who already uses any of the plans im looking at and get their review and maybe advice.
The options I've been looking at are:

And those are the options I've gravitated towards. Skinny, Spark and One NZ (used to be vodafone I think). It sounds like One NZ is the best price for uncapped data but again I'm suspicious from all the negative reviews about One NZ especially about customers not getting what they paid for. Even NZ herald and Stuff has made articles about them being the worst rated mobile service provider. Only way I can get over the suspicion is hearing from other people here and reddit is pretty honest and helpful when it comes to niche problems.
If anybody has experience with either of these providers and especially with the data plans listed, please let me know what its like for you so I can make an informed decision on what I should buy. Maybe you know of other plans that might be better, or are someone who has similar data usage (excessive gaming and streaming) and has worked out the best data plan for that kind of consumption.

I'm not a tech savvy person at all and I've noticed that lots of my games have been lagging or running slow on medium and even low graphics, My brother told me to do a benchmark test in which I did, my old Processer was a Ryzen 5 2600x which was why I got the Ryzen 7 5700x My brother told me that I most likely needed to get a new motherboard so that's why I'm here because like I said I'm out of tech savvy person so I have no idea what's good what's not or anything like that. I've had no issues with my RAM / hard drives but if they do need to be upgraded that is okay as well, I know I do want a new tower that is something that definitely needs to be done.

I have a cousin who's off on his own now for the first time and working on a very small budget. He has no wired home internet, no cable TV, no TV at all... all he's got is a smartphone with a 5GB/month plan, so he can't even stream much. So basically, no video entertainment at home.
I run a Plex server at home with a decent amount of content, and big flash drives are quite cheap now.
I want to get him a cheap big used computer monitor and something to plug into it that can:

• Handle 2 TB storage - thumb drive, SSD card, or whatever plugged into it.
  
• Present a good media browsing UI
  
• Be controlled by a remote control or preferably a smartphone app remote control
  
• Handle playback of HEVC/X265
  

I don't know if it's best to do something like Plex/Kodi/JellyFin and run both the server and a client on device, or if there's something that's better in this situation that's not even intended for ServeClient use, just some media organization/playback app?
And what's the minimum/cheapest hardware that can handle this? Some kind of TV stick computer? Raspberry Pi? AliExpress is full of mini stick computers that come with remotes for $20 or less, but it's hard to tell what they're capable of. If I plug in a USB stick with a 2 TB library of organized movies and TV shows, will it display that nicely to browse? Will it play back x265? I can't tell.
I'm technically proficient, I'm a software developer. I just am not involved in this kind of thing at all except for my home Plex setup, so I have no feel for the landscape here. The recepient is not technically proficient, so I want to get it all set up and mail it to him, at which point, it needs to behave like an appliance. It won't even be connected to the internet here; just the cheapest thing to do a nice job of playing back a local library. That also means it probably doesn't matter if it's some disreputable Chinese thing that could have spyware on it.

Does anyone know of a DIY project to make a learning remote for these newer BT based remotes? I'd love to hack together a learning IR remote together with a learning BT remote.
I kinda want to build my own CCwGTV remote with only the features I want. I don't have Netflix or use a voice assistant so those are wasted buttons along with the small button in the lower right corner. I also always launch YouTube via GTV so there's another button. So far the only buttons that I would keep are: UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, SELECT, BACK, POWER, & VOL+, Vol-, Mute.
I used a 32" Samsung Monitor that has no remote capabilities but there are IR switch boxes & IR KVM switch boxes available. I just need ones that work with both DisplayPort AND HDMI, PC uses DisplayPort and CCwGTV & my old black 4K CC use HDMI.
That's the one thing I do love about my old CC is that it works with Ethernet unlike CCwGTV which of course is only WiFi because I need to change my router's channel because someone nearby is causing interference & knocking out my WiFi at times. A WiFi scanner shows someone else on the same channel and pushing out about the same power even when I'm like 5m away from the CC. I have 5Ghz WiFi but to my knowledge CCwGTV only works on 2.5Ghz.

Just got fired from my second job this morning and I believe it’s because I’m taking time off for the reserves. I had been employed for only 78 days I worked 39 of those days. 16 days I had drill, I had annual training in April that’s why it’s 16. And 2 days off requested for myself. This morning at 9:30 am I text my boss and say “I got a maintenance guy for the apartment coming over today at 5 to check on the apartment before my lease expires, need to be home for him. Don’t think I’ll be able to make it in unless he comes early” he texts me about 20 minutes later and says “Nate it’s not going to work out I’ll send your check in the mail on Saturday”.
MIND YOU from my understanding of what I’ve been told from my COC is that we are required to have the day before and the day after off for a drill weekend. So even if I hadn’t called off I should’ve still had this day off. Which at the beginning of my employment I had told him, and he said no worries.
This all leads me to believe I’ve been fired for taking time off for my drill and annual training so short into my employment. With no reason given to be fired this is what I have come with. There was no prior discussion about this, or any notice. I had worked the Monday night and everything seemed fine, nothing wrong. Was a very slow night with no issues. Then comes Wednesday morning today.
I’ve contacted my plt Sgt and he said we are going to go to S1 as soon as we get there in the morning and tell them what happened.
I’ve never had this happen before, what rights do I have with this situation. What do I need to know, I called my boss and told him that I’m going to report this to my chain of command in a voice mail. What should I do? Any similar situations ever happened to y’all?

I’ve been a pretty solid Far Cry fan all the way back when 3 was released. I’ve played 3, 4, 5, Primal, new Dawn, and now I’m giving Far Cry 6 another chance after giving up on it 20% of the way through my first playthrough.
I’m by no means saying Far Cry 6 is the best of the franchise or even what I would consider a “great” game. But I think the community hates on the game a little too much. I’ve seen so many reviews and videos on YouTube all talking about the same criticisms and I just wanted to defend a couple of the popular criticisms that I’ve seen come up a few times.
Criticism 1: The Skill tree being clothing
I understand this complaint. It’s the first time in a far cry game you can’t build a walking tank based off perks. I understand it’s a pain to only have 4 temporary perks at a time rather than leveling up and building out a tree. However, after playing the game for a couple weeks now, I kinda respect the decision. You gotta be strategic on what clothes you wear and your outfits change depending on what situation you’re in. And honestly, if you don’t like the style your character is wearing but want the perk, you can always change what it looks like without altering the perks.
Criticism 2: the world feels empty
The world itself isn’t like a barren wasteland, there’s forts, checkpoints, structures with chests inside, camps. If you’re talking about enemies on the side of the road, yes it’s extremely empty and this is my major gripe with the game so far. Far cry 3 you had enemies everywhere until you captured the outposts around the area. Far cry 4 they were everywhere, Far Cry 5 they were everywhere a little too much. In Far Cry 6, they mention the army you’re facing has 300,000 soldiers. So far I’m only about 30% of the way through but I’m seeing a trend I’m only going to see maybe 10% of that army. Checkpoints have 3 soldiers, anti air weapons are practically not guarded at all. There’s maybe 1 soldier per 200 meters on the road. It’s honestly the emptiest Far Cry by far in terms of enemies. Checkpoints should have at least 5-6 soldiers, forts should have 10, anti airs should have 5-10.
Criticism 3: The game is too easy. You can headshot everyone and it’s an insta kill
I mean… yeah, that’s kinda the whole point of being shot in the head. I’ve seen people criticize the enemies for being to spongy and also criticize the game for being easy because all you gotta do is shoot em in the head. You can’t really have both. I don’t see a problem with this, what would you rather have? 3 head shots? Then they’d complain about that too.
Criticism 4: The game is too easy
I’ve seen this with this game. Right from the beginning of the game you have access to a car with a machine gun and full ammo at any time you want. Ammo rarely becomes a factor as you seem to find it everywhere, you can change your entire gun setup in the menu except for adding attachments. I get it, you can cheese the hell out of this game. My argument to that is, the beauty of this game is you can play the game how you want to play it like a true sandbox. If you want to be easy, hit only headshots and change your loadouts in the menu.
Personally I wanted it to be a bit more challenging so I’ve been playing this game how I played any Far Cry in the past, I set up my loadout at a bench and I don’t touch the loadout until I reach another bench. I never call the car unless I’m in an emergency with ammo or I’m really lazy and don’t want to find a car at that specific time and my distance to walk is more than like 500 meters. I’ve had no problems making the game more challenging for myself so the new mechanics haven’t been an issue for me.
Criticism 5: The game has no variety
I can see this too. After a while playing, the game has started to feel a tiny bit repetitive. They could’ve easily made the enemy locations like Checkpoints, Bases, and Anti Air locations way better. For example with the Anti Air guns, rather than have them be guarded by maybe 2 soldiers, they could’ve given these places objectives like “find the key to the control room from a lieutenant, shut down the power in the control room, overload the gun” or something. Rather than being able to take out an entire AA gun with one grenade and a pistol.
Overall thoughts:
The game isn’t perfect as there are definitely real critiques with this game and fair arguments to say it’s not the strongest in the series. But overall it’s not a bad game. I’ve always had a problem with voice acting in Ubisoft games lately, I’ve felt like they’ve been lazy and weak especially when it comes to the NPC’s (I’m looking at you Far Cry 5). Far Cry 6, in my opinion, has some really strong voice actors for the main characters, the female Dani is done very well, and the NPC’s aren’t perfect but they’re a step up from previous games.
The game is really fun and I find myself cruising through 4 hours before I even know it. The story isn’t the best. It’s definitely no Red Dead 2. But honestly it’s interesting enough and the game is fun enough that I’m having a pretty good time playing. Not to mention the game looks gorgeous and feels absolutely fantastic.
Definitely overhated, I give it a B-B+ overall.
Edit: I just realized 3 and 4 are the exact same thing. I’m just ranting my ideas down, not going for Post of the Year lol

Since this will be a long post with all important details here's a shorter description for people who had a similar problem before:
Current specs:

• CPU: Ryzen 5800X
• Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra
• GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio
• PSU: Corsair RM750x
• Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX, DDR4, 32 GB, 3200MHz, CL16
• NVMe 1: Kingston KC3000 2TB (C: system)
• NVMe 2: Kingston KC3000 2TB (D:)
• Sata SSD: Crucial MX500 1TB (E:)

What's the issue:
on random days the 2nd NVMe drive stops responding while trying to play some modern 3D games (Starfield intro is very repeatable, Helldivers 2, Titanfall 2 menu, Fortnite, Minecraft with shaders, can't reproduce it in any other way besides playing games) and this causes the games to crash, the drive stays accessible but I'm only able to read what is in the cache I guess. Here's what's in the event viewer https://imgur.com/a/F6sxz5KI can keep using my main drive and play games on it. After restarting my PC it works fine until I try to play a game on it again, then the same thing happens.
Which drives had this happen:

• Samsung 980 Pro 2TB that I had replaced on warranty because of a worse issue that caused BSODs, they didn't find any issues after this started happening, now this drive is sold and the guy doesn't have any issues, it crashed in my 2nc NVMe slot
• 2nd Kingston KC3000 as my D: drive, it crashed in the 2nd and 3rd NVMe slot, also today in a PCIe NVMe adapter card which I slotted in the x8 slot (2nd metal reinforced slot)
• my main (1st, C:) Kingston KC3000 DID NOT crash so far, it's been sitting in the 1st NVMe slot the whole time

How do I temp fix it:
so far it goes away for a week or two or more after plugging the drive to another slot (today that didn't work, maybe because I did it quickly), but to do that I have to completely unplug my PC and take out my GPU. One time it went away after upgrading my BIOS and resetting it completely. If I don't do anything about it then the next day it might work totally fine, then break the day after.

Now the whole story of all the parts from past to now:
The motherboard, CPU, PSU and GPU combo I bought off of my close friend, they didn't have any issues and probably used this setup for way more in a day than me. They had 2 NVMe drives plugged in the top 2 NVMe slots, one of them was a Samsung, some random model, probably irrelevant, they kept their drives.I used an ADATA XPG SX8200 1TB with my Sata SSD with that setup originally, no problems whatsoever.

A year ago I bought a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, the model that had the issues and owners were told to update it, mine was already up to date. I cloned stuff from the Adata to the Samsung and put it into the 1st slot, wiped the Adata and put it into the 2nd.

Everything was fine for half a year until I started getting bluescreens, very non descriptive. No minidumps were being saved. After some time I figured out it should be the Samsung drive, bought my first Kingston KC3000 and cloned stuff from my Samsung before sending it off to RMA.Didn't have more problems after that, but I might have just been lucky...

My RMA was approved and I got a replacement, I cloned games from the Adata onto the new Samsung and slotted it in it's place.

Three months later I started having my current drive issue, there are no bluescreens anymore, just the game launched from the Samsung crashing and it being unresponsive until a reboot. I submitted another RMA, bought another Kingston KC3000 to keep my 4TB in fast storage, cloned from Samsung to the new Kingston, sent the Samsung away on RMA but this time, after 1 hour of troubleshooting on their side (that's what it seems from the message timestamps), they found no issues and sent the Samsung back.I decided to sell the Samsung until the same issue appeared with the brand new Kingston. In this moment I started thinking it's a motherboard/CPU issue.

I moved the new Kingston into my 3rd NVMe slot, it's been running fine for a month, until this Monday...

An idea I had was to get a NVMe to PCI Express adapter, which I did get today and slotted it right under my GPU, in the second "metal" PCIe slot, trying to rule out my motherboard chipset, since the 2nd and 3rd NVMe slots go through it, while the 1st goes straight to the CPU.

Sadly, even with this setup it keeps crashing in that way. I was hoping that it will be fine, since that slot is also going straight to my CPU from what I read.
My ideas about the possible cause:

• brand new drives, both being broken in a similar way?
• was almost certain it was the motherboard, until today
• the CPU?
• the repeated cloning? I use clonezilla, copying the partition tables and pure data shouldn't cause such things..

What I can still try with my available stuff:

• swap the Kingstons around, so the one with games sits in the 1st slot
• use my old Adata instead of the new Kingston (less capacity) - TESTING NOW
• switch to a Ryzen 3600 to rule out the 5800x (loss of performance for at most 2 months)
• wipe both drives and reinstall everything (very annoying and time consuming)

I'm very welcome for possible ideas and suggestions, I'm very frustrated at this point because I can't trust my PC since it can break at any moment.

UPDATE 1:
Wiped clean the new Kingston using diskpart and initialized the disk to rule out the cloning - launched Starfield on it and it crashed, so it's not the cloning. I also swapped it with my old Adata, so now testing it in the PCIe adapter.

Hello everyone, I have been hanging out in this group for over a year now, and I cannot explain how helpful it has been so far. Reading and supporting people in a similar path feels a way more authentic and useful than friends and family that ask you stuff like " are you dating now? you are still young and beautiful" with such a lack of sensitivity I cannot even.
I feel I have talked enough about my divorce, but to be very honest with you, I really didn't. I tend to think that there is not that much to say, but there is still so much sadness inside that I don't know how to verbalize more than I do. Now that I am in the separation process, things come up randomly and in such a difficult way such us e-mail to confirm papers out of the blue that just ruin my day. Or answering calls to confirm that you are separating from your husband and so on. It triggers me so much I have to lay down and take a nap to get back to function after a couple of hours.
I am doing 1:1 therapy and group gestalt therapy, I am working out and eating properly, and I just feel I am fucking fed up with all of this, and the random grief waves that just came at me. It is so tiring. It is one year I ended it, and somedays it feels I am having a new life, and some days is pure hell.
There are two main things I feel really misunderstood about:
1) Being the one ending the marriage is not the one having the easiest time. Ending the relationship has been the most difficult thing in my entire life. I had to be honest with myself and accept that someone will never be able to offer me any safety. * my nervous system is so fried I cannot* I have been with my ex partner for 5 years ( during covid times - so it feels like 20 years tbh considering the whole the world is falling apart and we have each other kind of vibe), and last June, a bit more than 1 year in the marriage, I decided to end it. I have been waiting since years, probably from the very beginning for something to happen. I got promised a lot, and delivered zero. I know, I know what most of you are thinking. I married potential. And I just wish I was less angry at myself for that. I am trying to give myself as much grace, understanding and compassion as I can, but I am having a really difficult time with it. My partner has a mental illness that left untreated, and it just got worse and worse, to the point in which my mental health ended up collapsing as well. I have underestimated it. I asked him to start therapy a trillion times, but there is just a certain much you can do. It all ended with me having a mental breakdown, and I had to leave because my body literally told me to fu*k off. lt feels so depressive to say, but yeah. At the 28392th time of the other person lacking real care, or any sense of safety, I just broke inside. They left for a work trip and I started crying and I just could not stop. I cried one week straight. Day and night. The most exhausting week of my life. I just knew what was happening and I just had to roll with it. You just never think you would be the person that would happen to.
During that week I asked him not to talk because I needed some time. He didn't say much, cause he didn't care that much to be honest. He was absorbed with himself as usual. I feel intoxicated. I have been under constant mental stress for years, and I thought I could handle it. I thought I was ok. I was not. I relocated to his country because he was homesick, and all I got is to end a marriage and having to relocate to another country. I ended a marriage within a 90 minute conversation. I talked, he didn't say much. He looked almost relieved. If felt like a punch in the stomach. I moved to another country. I am starting a new life but I feel so broken, I can't. Everyone feels like I kinda move on. I am an independent, driven bad ass. I am just tired, I feel lonely and I have lost friendships and health on the process.
This has been the first time in my life in which I really like really needed help. I asked for it, and I didn't get much in return. I have been there so much for my friends, to the point of hearing things like " You know, I have never really hold space for you and I don't feel like doing it because I have lots going on". This was the day after I broke up. The charity shop is now closed. I also had to deal with the people I surrounded myself with.
I am trying to keep it together, working on new goals and dreams, but it is just so confusing.
I am currently grieving a life I planned and I worked hard for.
I am so angry and I don't know what to do beside going to the gym, talk to my therapist and try to keep a good routine. I feel I have been scammed and used. I am so angry at him, but mostly at myself for believing all his lies, and I cannot go over that.
2) You just move on. I just feel an entire part of my life ended. A chapter of my life closed. Beside the grief, some days I look at myself at the mirror and I am not even sure I really know that person. I am seeing so many things in such a different light, and I feel my heart so shut at times that almost scares me. My range of feeling is so limited and I can feel that. I asked my therapist my diagnosis after 3 years working together, and it seems I am dealing with PTSD. I have starting working on myself 10 years ago. I had a very difficult life, and I am making the best of it considering the overall circumstances. And yet, after this experience there is a tiny voice inside of me that thinks, that now I have seen what I am capable of on many level, I just want to have the best. And I am afraid that that might never come because I have such clear ideas for the first time in my life that just feels too much. I just feel I have been too much my entire life, and being around people with whom I just shrink seems the easiest option.
3) work and anxiety. The only thing that is still kind of together in my life is my job. I love it and I feel really good at it, while I am also facing anxiety because I cannot keep up with my ideas. I wish i could do more, but I am doing a way less that I would like to due to my body getting tired super quickly. And while some people tell me to take time off, to be honest work is what keeps me sane. Am I the only one? I don't want to hide in my work, but it is genuinely the safest space i have in my life.
I don't have questions or need anything. Just felt the need to write someone before trying to start another day in my life in which I have to find new meanings. I hate feeling this miserable.
