Kansas

Despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have allowed abortion restrictions in the state, Kansas Republicans passed several anti-abortion bills into law late last month, overriding the governor’s veto.
The first bill, HB 2436, makes it a crime to “coerce” someone into having an abortion. Democrats attempted to widen the scope of the bill to include all kinds of reproductive coercion, like pressuring someone to become or stay pregnant and prohibiting their access to birth control, and enshrine a right to “reproductive autonomy.” Republicans voted down the amendment.
The second bill, HB 2749, requires medical facilities and providers to (1) ask patients their reason for having an abortion and (2) report the data, including personal information about the patient, to the legislature every other year. Gov. Laura Kelly (D) agreed with the objections of Democrats and reproductive rights advocates, saying when she vetoed the bill that there is “no valid reason to force a woman to disclose to the legislature why she is seeking an abortion.”
  • Democrats offered numerous amendments to HB 2749, including one to require men to report to the legislature their reasons for having a vasectomy and another requiring men to report why they are seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction. Republicans rejected all of them.
Finally, the Republican legislature overrode Kelly’s line-item veto allocating $2 million to the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program, created last year with a different veto override. The program is run by an anti-abortion group called the Kansas Pregnancy Care Network, which refers pregnant people to crisis pregnancy centers designed to use misleading information to discourage them from obtaining an abortion.

Louisiana

Louisiana’s legislature is doubling down on its anti-abortion laws, passing bills to increase criminalization and refusing to add exemptions to its abortion ban.
Earlier this month, the Louisiana House took up a bill passed by the Senate that would make it a crime, punishable by jail time, to possess abortion-inducing medication. SB 276, sponsored by 23 Republicans and one Democrat, was initially written to create a punishment for coercing someone into an abortion without their knowledge or consent (e.g. spiking a drink). However, House legislators recently added an amendment to the bill that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV substances alongside some opioids and benzodiazepines. A pregnant person possessing the drugs for their own use could not be charged, but others who intend to distribute them to pregnant people seeking an abortion or store them for their own potential future use would face up to ten years in prison.
“Neither is a drug of abuse or dependence, and that is what the controlled drug schedule is for,” said [emergency room Dr. Jennifer] Avegno of the abortion drugs. “It makes no scientific or medical sense to put these drugs in the same category as Xanax or Valium.”
Mifepristone is a drug that blocks a hormone called progesterone, which is necessary for a pregnancy to continue. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions, causing the body to expel the pregnancy tissue. Mifepristone is also used to treat Cushing’s disease, a hormonal disorder. Misoprostol is also used to induce labor, manage a miscarriage and in the treatment of ulcers. Neither are addictive. “People do not go around taking them and getting dependent and having bad outcomes because of it,” said Avegno. “It’s like saying your blood pressure medicine or insulin is a drug of abuse.”
A week later, Republicans on the House Criminal Justice Committee voted 7-4 to reject a bill to add rape and incest exceptions to the state’s total abortion ban. House Bill 164, written by Democratic Rep. Delisha Boyd, would have allowed girls younger than 17 to have abortions if they became pregnant as the result of sexual assault.
“That baby [in the womb] is innocent … We have to hang on to that,” said committee member Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, who voted against the bill. Rep. Lauren Ventrella, R-Greenwell Spring, also voted against the legislation, saying the proposed law would be difficult to enforce. Teenagers who had consensual sex might feign rape or incest in order to get access to abortion services, she suggested…
Dr. Neelima Sukhavasi, a Baton Rouge doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, also implored the lawmakers to approve Boyd’s proposal. She and her colleagues have delivered babies for pregnant teenagers, including mothers as young as 13, since Louisiana’s abortion ban went into effect two years ago. These young pregnant people can experience health complications that affect them for the rest of their lives, Sukhavasi said, and sometimes don’t have the mental capacity to handle the births. “One of these teenagers delivered a baby while clutching a teddy bear,” she told the committee.
The Committee also killed three other bills: HB 56, to allow abortions in cases of spontaneous miscarriage or nonviable pregnancy; HB 63, to clarify that the removal of an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion under state law; HB 293, to add protection for physicians who do not intend to induce abortion by prescribing certain medications.

Texas

Meanwhile, in Texas—a state that pioneered the war on women and reproductive rights—a man initiated legal action to sue people who helped his former partner obtain an out-of-state abortion.
The man, Collin Davis, filed a petition in a state district court seeking permission to launch legal depositions to collect evidence for a potential lawsuit under a Texas law that contains civil liability for anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion. According to his lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell (who crafted the anti-abortion law), Davis is seeking to sue “co-conspirators and accomplices…involved in the murder of [his] unborn child.”
“Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,” he wrote. “They can sue anyone who paid for the abortion, anyone who aided or abetted the travel, and anyone involved in the manufacture or distribution of abortion drugs.”
Molly Duane, a senior staff attorney with the Center for Reproductive Rights, described Mitchell’s statement and general approach as misleading “fearmongering.”
“People need to understand that it is not a crime to leave Texas or any other state in the country for an abortion,” said Duane, who is working with lawyers from the firm Arnold & Porter to represent the woman and others targeted in the Davis case. “I don’t want people to be intimidated, but they should be outraged and alarmed.” Duane described the woman’s relationship with Davis as “toxic and harmful.”
Mitchell also represents a different man who pursued a similar claim last year: Marcus Silva engaged Mitchell to sue the friends of his estranged wife for allegedly helping her obtain abortion pills. Evidence later revealed that Silva knew about the plans beforehand and did not intervene, likely intending to use the threat of legal action as a way of forcing his partner to halt divorce proceedings.
Monday’s counterclaim illustrates, in painstaking detail, exactly how Silva—aided by Mitchell—allegedly deployed this tactic. It was only after Brittni’s abortion was complete that Silva revealed he knew about the plan and, according to the lawsuit, threatened to turn her in if she didn’t submit to his continued abuse. He even showed the police photographs of messages discussing the possibility of an abortion. “Once I finally got home with the girls he had been drinking and he told me that he knew,” Brittni texted one friend. “He’s using it against me.” In another message, she wrote, “Now he’s saying if I don’t give him my ‘mind body and soul’ until the end of the divorce, which he’s going to drag out, he’s going to make sure I go to jail for doing it.” […]
The counterclaim points out another flaw in his argument: Silva himself “is responsible for the alleged injury for which he seeks to recover.” He “knew that Brittni planned to terminate her alleged pregnancy and acquiesced in accepting Brittni’s actions,” so “it would be unconscionable to permit him to benefit by changing his position now.” His claims, in short, are barred “by unclean hands,” because he effectively entrapped his estranged wife—covertly discovering her plan to terminate the pregnancy, then allowing her to go through with it for the express purpose of blackmailing her into staying with him.

Indiana

A three-judge panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals last month unanimously recognized a religious freedom challenge to the state’s complete ban on abortion.
The case, brought by Hoosier Jews for Choice and four anonymous women of various faiths, alleges that the ban interferes with “their sincere religious beliefs that require and direct them to obtain abortions” criminalized since the law took effect in 2023. According to Jewish law, a fetus does not have personhood until birth, and abortion is required if the pregnancy endangers the life or health of the mother.
Brief of Hoosier Jews for Choice (and other plaintiffs): As indicated by the declarations of numerous rabbis, Judaism teaches that a fetus becomes a living person only at birth, and prior to that is considered part of the woman’s body, without independent rights. Abortion should occur and is mandated to end a pregnancy that may cause serious consequences to a woman’s mental or physical heath. Judaism also recognizes that physical health risks are not limited to those likely to cause substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. Judaism stresses the necessity of protecting the physical and mental health of the woman—a life—over the potential for life present in a zygote, embryo, or fetus. Therefore, restrictions that prevent a woman from obtaining an abortion where compelled by Jewish law, which mandates that the woman act to protect her physical or mental health, impose a substantial burden on that person’s religious exercise.
Under Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), “a governmental entity may not substantially burden a personʹs exercise of religion,” defined to include “any exercise of religion, whether or not compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief.” This means that arguments about whether plaintiffs are strictly observant are irrelevant; the law protects sincerely held religious views regardless of whether that view is idiosyncratic or unorthodox. However, even a law that imposes a substantial burden on the exercise of religion can be enforced if it is “the least restrictive means of furthering [a] compelling governmental interest” (the strict scrutiny test).
The state argued that abortion does not carry “religious significance” and, even if it did, the abortion ban satisfies strict scrutiny because it is “sufficiently narrowly tailored” to “further the State’s interest” in “protecting human lives in the womb.” Throughout Indiana’s brief, the state attempts to use science to back up fetal personhood, extending developmental physiology to make unfounded claims that protected life unquestionably begins at conception:
In lower courts, the State’s compelling interest is not up for debate. In Cheaney v. State, the Indiana Supreme Court held that the State’s interest in protecting unborn children is “valid and compelling” from “the moment of conception.” …A basic understanding of biology supports these holdings. “That human fetuses are human beings is a scientific fact, not a theological claim.” Regardless whether an individual person believes this, “the scientific consensus” is that “[d]evelopment begins at fertilization,” after which the newly created “unicellular zygote divides many times and becomes progressively transformed into a multicellular human being through cell division, migration, growth, and differentiation.” …. Science thus tells us that “[t]he act of performing an induced abortion during any stage of pregnancy, from fertilization up to birth, ends the life of an innocent human being.” The State’s interest in protecting unborn fetal life at any stage from intentional destruction accordingly is nothing less than “compelling.”
A panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals—made up of a Republican appointee and two Democratic appointees—unanimously ruled against the state, upholding a lower court’s injunction against the abortion ban as it applies to the plaintiffs. In the process, the court laid out a path for religious freedom challenges to abortion bans in other states and at the federal level.
The trial court found that absent a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs would be irreparably harmed by the loss of their religious freedoms guaranteed by RFRA. A loss of First Amendment freedoms, which include the right to free exercise of religion, “for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury.”... Without a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs will suffer the loss of their right to exercise their sincere religious beliefs by obtaining an abortion when directed by their religion and prohibited by the Abortion Law. They also have shown their sexual and reproductive lives will continue to be restricted absent the injunction and as a result of the Abortion Law.

2024.05.15 12:07 getfiio WSJ article about a crackdown looming for bigger investors

After reading the article, it looks like another misleading headline designed to generate buzz by the sales team at the WSJ.
But I still want to be cautious in my strategy and mitigate any risks.
Curious what do others think of the article?
The article needs a subscription, so I pasted the text below.
Wall Street went on a home-buying spree. Now, more lawmakers want to stop it from ever happening again.
Democrats in the U.S. Senate and House have sponsored legislation that would force large owners of single-family homes to sell houses to family buyers. A Republican’s bill in the Ohio state legislature aims to drive out institutional owners through heavy taxation.
Lawmakers in Nebraska, California, New York, Minnesota and North Carolina are among those proposing similar laws.
While homeowner associations for years have sought to stop investors from buying and renting out houses in their neighborhoods, the legislative proposals represent a new effort by elected officials to regulate Wall Street’s appetite for single-family homes.
These lawmakers say that investors that have scooped up hundreds of thousands of houses to rent out are contributing to the dearth of homes for sale and driving up home prices. They argue that investor buying has made it harder for first-time buyers to compete with Wall Street-backed investment firms and their all-cash offers.

Investors of all sizes spent billions of dollars buying homes during the pandemic. At the 2022 peak, they bought more than one in every four single-family homes sold, though more recently their activity has slowed as interest rates rose and supply became tighter. Two of the largest home-buying firms, Invitation Homes and AMH, are publicly traded companies, while a number of other companies, backed by private equity, hold portfolios of tens of thousands of homes nationwide.
Companies that buy single-family homes say their businesses provide renters the opportunity to live in desirable neighborhoods where they otherwise couldn’t afford to buy.
With home prices and rents near record highs around the U.S., legislators and officials at all levels of government have become more active on housing issues. States have passed new measures to fund more affordable housing, to allow builders to bypass local zoning laws and to make the eviction process more favorable to tenants.
Most calls to block large companies from snapping up homes come from liberals, but some conservatives also show an inclination to crack down.
This “corporate large-scale buying of residential homes seems to be distorting the market and making it harder for the average Texan to purchase a home,” Republican Gov. Greg Abbott wrote on X last month. “This must be added to the legislative agenda to protect Texas families.”
Close to equal numbers of voting-age Republicans and Democrats said they would support a measure to block Wall Street firms from buying homes, according to a new study funded by the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank. The study gauged opinion from 5,000 renters and homeowners in urban and suburban ZIP Codes.
Proposals to curb investors might be popular with voters, but so far they haven’t gained much traction in legislatures. None of the bills in Congress or in any of the state houses has reached a floor vote.
Advocates for the single-family rental industry, such as the National Rental Home Council, oppose such legislation and blame rising prices on an undersupply of new-construction homes. They also point to the relatively low number of homes owned by institutional investors, defined as those companies with portfolios of 1,000 homes or more. Some research estimates these companies own 3% to 5% of American rental homes.
In some American cities, institutional investors hold a much larger share of homes than they hold nationally. In Atlanta, nearly 11% of all rental homes in the five-county area are now owned by three real-estate companies, a recent study by researchers at Georgia State University found. A 2022 analysis by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said 21% of Atlanta rental homes were owned by some large institution.
Rep. Nikema Williams (D., Ga.), from the Atlanta area, in December co-sponsored the End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act in the U.S. House. The act “won’t solve all of the problems, but it will definitely make an impact,” she said in an interview.
Critics of regulation note that many of the largest investors have bought very few or no homes in the past year. “The great trade is done,” said John Burns, founder of the eponymous housing research and consulting firm. “So what are you trying to stop?”
Smaller investors that own between 10 and 99 homes have stepped up their share of home buying this year, Burns said. Some of the proposed legislation would also target these smaller investors.
The bills in the House and Senate would cap rental-home ownership at no more than 50 homes for many companies, requiring them to sell off any more they already own. A bill in Minnesota, meanwhile, would limit ownership to 20 homes.
Bills to block landlords in the Ohio and Nebraska state legislatures were written in response to a small number of investors buying up hundreds of homes in a handful of Cincinnati and Omaha neighborhoods.
Louis Blessing III, a Republican representing suburbs of Cincinnati in the Ohio Senate, introduced a bill to tax large landlords so heavily that they would likely feel compelled to sell their properties. Blessing said he is concerned about real-estate companies developing monopoly power in some neighborhoods, while putting starter homes further out of reach for home buyers.
“It’s an antitrust in spirit bill,” he said.

New sub-faction ideas for Kane Wrath #7 Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (GDI)
"Greeting Brothers and Sisters, today we bring you grave news. The sun we though had set long ago had risen again. Those remained from wars of fifty years ago revived from their tombs, readied to served their GDI masters once more. Our brother in China once underestimated them, now they are trampled under their feet. I fear we will faced them soon."
Brother Duc, a Confessor in Ho Chi Minh city.
Konnichiwa, Annyeong hasimnikka and hello guys and girls. I'm back with the third trilogy of homebrew sub-factions. This time, we'll take a look to the far east, where the Empire of Rising Sun used to be, at least in Red Alert 3 timeline. In the lands of Korean Peninsula and Japan Island, a branch of GDI, the Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (J-KDI) is in charge. This concept based on the Empire of Rising Sun from RA3 with many touches to fit in the scenario of the Tiberium Universe. As this region unique geography, society, economical and technological advances, the sub-faction leaned more toward urban warfare, drone combat and the fragile but versatile mech walker.
As you already know, the Steel Talon also favor walkers but their mech are crude, rugged and focus on late-game punch, J-KDI mechs are more futuristic, high-tech, highly versatile, which is an odd for GDI doctrine, but when taking their operating region into account, the feat seem not very complicated, as Japan and Korea are the least suffered from the first two Tiberium Wars and designated as Blue Zones (Yes, even North Korea is a Blue Zone, maybe Kane get scared, who know?). So, without any further ado, let dive in.
Disclaimer: As always, The image I used in the Post below is from various source on the internet such as CnC wiki and Deviantart to give reader a better look at my idea. If you you felt uncomfortable with this, please let me know in the comment below and I'll remove them

J-KDI insignia
Lore
Originally created by the United Nations as a branch of GDI in charge of Japan and Korean region and after decades maintaining security and prosperity with advancing in technologies, J-KDI is one of the most renowned division within GDI. They often active in Japan Main Islands and Korean Peninsula, which saw little Tiberium infestation and stable politic and economic environments. During the chaotic time before the Second Tiberium War, the three governments met with GDI presentative and strike a deal: The three countries will accept GDI officials, tactics, policies and complied to mobilization orders in exchange for maintaining their own decree of independent, including the right to command and develop their own army with access to some GDI technologies. This deal has led to the birth a semi-independent regional forces within GDI, known as Japan-Korea Defense Initiative (J-KDI).
One of J-KDI unique characteristic is due to they mostly operate in large city, thus their arsenal is modified to suit urban combats. With their freedom in R&D and a huge sum of budget to do so, their units seem more futuristic and sometime unrealistic compare to normal GDI war machines. Most noticeable is they managed to recovered old prototypes from older projects, upgraded and let them enter services once again. With North Korea also in the mix, J-KDI also employed well trained armed military polices and tactical nuclear ballistic weapons. On the other side, J-KDI saw limited use of aircraft and cannot access to Ion Cannons due to GDI constrictions, however, they soon found out other "solutions" to fulfill their role.
In recent years, J-KDI had found a new talent, Dr. Liang, brother of Jade Liang, a NOD notorious commander. Dr. Liang worked side by side with his sister Jade in the GDI research labs until they were both accidentally exposed to raw Tiberium. Liang chose to amputate his arm rather than succumb to mutation. He now dedicates himself to finding ways to heal wounds of all kinds with most of his research into pilotless vehicles. And Dr. Liang, who in need of a sponsor met with J-KDI, who scouting for talents in robotics and drone vehicles, thus Dr. Liang was recruited as chief scientist and a battle commander for J-KDI. His contributed in drones and AI developments helped J-KDI advanced further to their vision of a futuristic army, until the end of Third Tiberium War, that is ...
Building
  • Can not build Airfield.
  • Can not build Combat Support Airfield.
  • Call for Transport available after a Command Post is built
Defense
  • Missile Silo replaces Ion Cannon: Sponsored by United Republic of Korea, these things make NOD green with envy. It can launch a tactical nuclear strike delivered by an ICBM with 5 tactical nuclear MIRV warheads at the target location anywhere on the map. If this is not enough, J-KDI commanders can purchase additional warheads at the Silo. Each warheads cost 1500$ and each ICBM can carry 10 warheads at most.
The Missile Silo ready to deliver it payloads
Infantry
  • Riot Squad replaces Riflemen Squad: Basic infantry/policeman armed with mini assault rifles, riot shield and flash bang. They are studier but slower than their counterpart and trained to clear garrisoned building. On the flip side, they can throw flash bang at enemies infantry, which stunned for a while.
  • Dragonfly Drone: Flying scout drones armed with EMP Immobilizer, which can disable ground vehicle. It can ordered to charge and self-destruct in an EMP explosion, hopefully damaging anything around it. Require Command Post.
  • Service Drone: Flying support drone with timed life that can repair or heal adjacent allies units. Can only summoned through Instant Service support power.
The Riot Squad (from Crossfire Legion), the Dragonfly Drone and the Service Drone
Vehicle
  • Cannot build Rig and Mammoth Tank.
  • Assault APC: Troop transport vehicle armed with weapon jammer and fire ports. Weapon Jammer can render enemies weapons to useless, even infantry weapons. Can upgraded to deploy smoke screen to support friendly units.
  • Robo Tengu replaces Guardian APC: Anti-infantry hover walker, first designed for security, then converted for military use. It can upgrade to transform into the Jet Tengu, a VTOL air superiority fighter. Can detect stealth.
  • Striker-VX: Anti-air walker that can spew out surface-to-air missiles into air. It can upgraded to transform into the Chopper-VX, to combat incoming ground targets with air-to-surface missiles. Require Command Post.
  • Megalodon: Powerful assault walker designed for melee combat with plasma blade, excellence durability and quite fast (for a heavy tank). It also immune to hijacking, mind control and only slowed down by EMP effects. Commandos, however, can plant charges on it legs to bring it down. It leaves behind a husk when destroyed, which can be captured or destroyed. Require Tech Center.
The Assault APC (From Generals 2), the Tengu, VX (both from Red Alert 3) and the mighty Megalodon (from Reign of Steel mod)
Aircraft
  • Cannot build any "traditional" aircraft.
Upgrade
  • Cannot purchase Sensor Pods, Hardpoints, Stratofighter and Railgun Upgrade.
  • AP Ammo upgrade benefit Riot Squad and Tengu
  • Transform Modules: Allow Robo Tengu to transform into the Jet Tengu and Striker-VX transform to Chopper-VX. Purchase at War Factory.
  • Smoke Launcher: Allow Assault APC and Predator Tank launch smoke grenades at targeted area, creating a smokescreen that lasts for 6 seconds and greatly reduce sight range and attack range of units caught within. It can also force garrisoned infantry out of buildings. Purchase at Command Post.
  • Expanded Missile Pods: Expands the Missile Pods for Pitbull and Striker-VX, allowing more missiles per salvo. Purchase at Tech Center.
  • Hydrogen Fuel Cells: Increase Robo Tengu, Striker-VX and Megalodon speed by 33%. Megalodon also gain immunity from EMP effect. Purchase at Tech Center.
Support Power
  • Cannot use Orca Strike and Bloodhounds.
  • GDI Airborne summon two Riot Squads and two Missile Squads instead of two Rifle Squads and two Missile Squads.
  • Drone Strike: Call in kamikaze drone which crashes itself onto targeted area, explode and causing high damage. Summon 3 drones initially but every GDI War Factory present on the battlefield will release an additional Hunter-Seeker drone upon activation. Require Command Post.
  • Instant Service: Call in a flock of 3 Service Drones with timed life anywhere on the map that can heal and repair adjacent allies units. Require War Factory.
Notable Events
  1. Clear House. Location: Kobe, Japan. After the Firestorm Crisis, Empire of Japan and the United Republic of Korea, designated as Blue Zones B-6 and B-7, entered a decade of rapid development thanks to geography locations, efficient governments and technological advances. But shadows of previous conflicts still remained and now, they stir once again. Dr. Liang, a newly appointed chief scientist of J-KDI, accompanied by Battle Commander Sato in a riot control mission in Kobe. The investigators discovered that riots incited by the local Yakuza and backed by NOD. A MCV with escort arrived and quelled the riots by destroyed all hidden NOD infrastructures around the city. At one of the base, J-KDI found documents about a large operation in nearby Osaka Port.
  2. Hand of Darkness. Location: Osaka, Japan. From the documents J-KDI discovered NOD had secretly taken control of Osaka Port operations through several Yakuza shell companies. There, they established a base, hidden by Disruption Towers to wait for a "special shipment" arrive. J-KDI sent a Commando task force to intercept the cargo. As the Commando arrived, he cut through NOD patrols and secured the cargo ship. With the cargo carried away by a V-35 Ox, J-KDI sent in their MCV to build a base and proceed to eliminate NOD presence in the port.
  3. Hidden Vipers. Location: Ningbo, China. The cargo contained parts of a liquid Tiberium base explosive device and from NOD captives and documents, they intended stage a "test" in Tokyo area. This information raised concern for both J-KDI and GDI alike as such attack will cause massive casualties. Doctor Liang traced back the device is manufactured in Ningbo, China and had signatures of his sister, Jade Liang, now a defector. GDI Council authorized a joined assault on China Yellow Zone and put a stop to these devices production. After a bombardment, Steel Talon vanguards landed at the port while J-KDI mech wings escort Hovercraft upstream Yong Jiang river to strike at the rear. However, the city is defended by Emerald Vipers, a NOD faction specialized in toxic and liquid-T weapon. The Vipers led by Jade resisted fiercely to defend their facilities but crushed eventually. Jade escaped with only a handful of troops and GDI claimed their victory.
  4. Incoming Storm. Location: Tumangang, North Korea. Several years passed since NOD Incursion and GDI slowly diminished their military forces. But J-KDI still maintained their semi-independent status and continued to developed new weapons. Recently, there words of a huge NOD armored column pushed down from Siberia toward the Korean Peninsula. Commander Sato had been mobilized to Tumangang in the Russia-North Korea border to intercept NOD advance. He arrived and begin fortified river crossing just before NOD first wave arrived. After the first wave intercepted, second wave arrived and set up shops at the opposite river bank. From there, NOD aircraft and infantry can support the third and fourth wave directly, giving Sato a hard time, however, no vehicle crossed the river. Just before the last wave, Sato receive information about the attacks on GDSS Philadelphia and Japan. He quickly finished the last wave and returned to Japan.
  5. Day at the bay. Location: Yokohama, Japan. NOD attacked a GDI Council's installations in Yokohama and J-KDI called in as reinforcement to take back Ion Cannon Control Centers there. However, there early reports that another GDI force already there. Feeling something amiss, Commander Sato send a Commando and a Sniper Team to investigate the situation. Turned out, a GDI Insurgent, the Dark Eyes Insurgency (D.E.I) had taken control of the Ion Control Centers there and in process of stealing an Ion Cannon for there usage. After a brief skirmish, Sato cannot stop the D.E.I from finished taking control an Ion Cannon. At this point, the D.E.I commander propose a deal with Sato, as they willingly to help him take back the vital port of Yokohama in exchange for a blind eye, as GDI Council not giving J-KDI access to Ion Cannon Network either. Having no better choice, Sato agreed and the combined GDI wiped out remaining NOD foothold in Yokohama. Before leaving, the D.E.I generously provide Sato a shocking new: Dr. Liang life is under threat by his little sister, as she going to attack at San Diego Conference, where Dr. Liang and many GDI top scientist currently in.
  6. Santa Coming, Too. Location: San Diego, California. Dr. Liang and San Diego base had been warned about the coming of NOD forces. However, the defense of the base fall in local GDI hands, as Dr. Liang forces are only a handful of guards and mechs. As the Vipers approached, they were caught surprised by J-KDI transform mechs and Vipers aircraft soon removed out the sky as their home Air Tower destroyed. This angered Jade and she soon send in more troops to the meat grinder. In the moment the base about to fall, an APCOM reinforcement wing arrived and bombed NOD forces to oblivion. Jade herself forced to abandoned the battle, leaving behind many Vipers casualties behind.
  7. Relics of the Past. Location: Point Hope, Alaska. Having stabilized the Blue Zones, GDI High Command planned for a retaliation strike at NOD. J-KDI Command didn't sit still either, as they're dangerously close to the China Yellow Zone. However, to J-KDI also lack the capability to strike deep into China mainland where NOD headquarter is. Dr. Liang proposed a bold idea: by using an old experimental device Allied forces used during the Third World War, they can teleport a limited number of vehicle directly at NOD headquarter and destroy NOD from inside out. However, this device currently mothballed in a abandoned base in Alaska, with rumors of NOD activities in the region. As the plan when through by GDI High Command, Dr. Liang and Sato lead and expedition to dig out the old Chronosphere and charged it to full. While Dr. Liang busy restore and recharge the Chronosphere, Commander Sato take charge of a naval battle with two NOD Battleships and their escort.
  8. Chrono You Didn't. Location: Nanchang, China. With the old Chronosphere device fully charged, J-KDI begin their raid on NOD Asian Headquarter in China. After clear out a NOD outpost, a MCV with some mech teleported and begin set up shops at the west bank of the river. Local Black Hand alerted of J-KDI presence and sent a Purifier with a few Scorpions to intercept GDI but soon torn to shed by mech reinforcement. This, however, do not deter the Black Hand and NOD from sending in more troop and vehicles at the J-KDI base, stalling J-KDI advance for a time. After a few round of reinforcements, Dr. Liang inform commander Sato that the Chronosphere will reach it limit soon, but a ZOCOM commander volunteer to arrived at a last batch reinforcement. A ZOCOM MCV with some vehicle and two MARVs soon teleported in was the last reinforcement, but they are more than enough. Together with ZOCOM, J-KDI pushed forward and even destroyed a Black Hand Redeemer, forcing them to retreat. The main NOD base soon followed suit and fall to the combined might of the two MARVs. With their Command Headquarter destroyed, NOD forces in China soon fall to disarray. This mission is a total victory.
  9. Doomsday Countdown. Location: Incheon, South Korea. The situation in the Far East is stabled and only minor NOD resistances remained but a large number of NOD had escaped their demise. Peace finally there, but it is short lived, as the Earth under attack by an unknown Aliens. There crafts landed across the globe and their forces strike in every Blue and Yellow Zones. A Drone Platform had landed in Incheon and Commander Sato sent to deal with it. A strike team arrived from sea and encountered heavy Alien patrols. Battleship called for bombards to clear a landing zone for an J-KDI outpost. The alien deployed their Rift Generator, intend using it to wipe out any humans resistant. In face such mass destruction weapons, J-KDI authorized the use of Tactical Nukes and a Silo is deployed. With the help of a EMP Control Center, J-KDI disrupt the Rift Generator long enough for their forces to destroyed the Rift Generator and nuked the Drone Platform along with any remained Aliens to oblivion.
  10. Under the Sacred Mountain. Location: Mt. Fuji, Japan. When Commander Sato busy dealing with the aliens in Hiroshima, Dr. Liang received distress signals from a GDI facility in Mt. Fuji. Apparently, his little sister, Jade attacked the facility to eliminate a high ranking NOD defector sheltered there. But the Aliens arrival foiled her plan and now she caught in the crossfire between GDI and Aliens. This opportunity cannot be missed but J-KDI had given order to prioritized the defector safety first, thus Dr. Liang led reinforcements to Mt. Fuji. He arrived from the north to the final GDI base there while Jade three base besieging them. As for the Aliens, there coming from the South, keep hammering Jade from behind. J-KDI first recaptured the Power Plant to reactivate the remain defend system, which temporally push Jade forces back. Afterward, they begin to hammer Jade bases while she fend off the Aliens. Cannot withstand any further, Jade flee again, abandoned remaining forces to their fate. The Aliens also dealt with afterward and the defector escorted to safety.
  11. Shipwright. Location: Naval Base White Beach, Okinawa. A ZOCOM aircraft carrier task force arrived in Okinawa for emergency repair and refuel. The carrier carried with it a special cargo and under attack by the Reaper-17 pursuers. J-KDI sent Commander Sato to unsured the cargo safety. When be Carrier under repaired, all sirens sounded as Alien Storm Riders approached, but all shot down. Soon, more Aliens ground forces arrived along the north beach while more Storm Riders flied in from the sea. J-KDI and ZOCOM hold off the Aliens long enough for the Carrier Task force to repair and refuel, then escort the task force to high sea, after destroyed the Alien foothold in the region, of course.
  12. Race of Arms. Location: Threshold 14, Guangdong, China. The cargo had reached safety in the high sea while the Aliens pursuer retreated. GDI High Command, alerted of Alien's Towers in the Red Zone, planned to destroyed them before they finished constructing. J-KDI had been assigned to bring down the Tower in China Red Zone, code name Threshold 14. When the vanguard arrived, they found themself not only facing Alien but also NODs. Under pressure from both side, J-KDI hold on to their footholds while withering down Alien and NOD forces. Soon, Dr. Liang informed that a special Chrono delivery is coming. Commander Sato send the signal for three warheads to teleported near the Phase Generators and denotate them, reduced a huge chunk of Alien base to dust. With the Phase Generators outed, the Tower is now vulnerable and a nuclear strike later, it blew to smithereens.
  13. Of Brother and Sister. Location: Giraud-Moebius Tiberium Crater. Five years after the Third Tiberium War, GDI now stand victorious and the Brotherhood back to it shadows once more, J-KDI busying rebuild their city and society when Dr. Liang receive a shocking news, his sister, Jade Liang had betrayed Kane and now withdrawn to her final stronghold deep within Central Asia Red Zone. Dr. Liang asked for permission to finish business with his sister and authorized by GDI High Command. As Jade stronghold is hard to breached, J-KDI use a more bold approach, drop a MCV dropped from orbit inside her compound and destroy it from within. As J-KDI about to attack, the Marked of Kane already begun their assault. This created distraction needed for the MCV to make land fall and how can Dr. Liang refuse such a chance. A MCV task force dropped behind Jade lines and start to set up shops while Jade busy fighting cyborgs. Only when she realized her defend line pincered by both mechs and cyborgs then it is already too late. Not willing give up, Jade activated four Cloning Vats, devices left behind from Soviet-era that can clones every infantry Jade forces have trained. Fortunately, the Kenan Corp reinforcements arrived and together, the three forces pushed toward Jade headquarter. Jade in her madness, denotate a Liquid-T Bomb, intended to take the attacker down but ultimately failed and captured by J-KDI troops. After a brief conversation, Dr. Liang bid farewell to his sister and handed her to a cyborg, then a gunshot rang ....

That all for this post. If you have any opinions, please let me know in the comment section below as usual. The next post is right about the corner as I take for a change and do a Kilian Loyalist NOD sub-faction next time. Thanks you for reading and I hope to hear from your comments soon. Best regards.

2024.05.15 09:04 soul420_ I have a question regarding my state Alabama and what my rights are as far as being pulled over

I was pulled over for moving over lanes when being tailed by police they kept switching back behind me and wouldn't just pass me up and then 3 task force pull me over for "avoiding them".
I don't think that counts as probable cause to have to surrender my license which I did and when everything came back clean they wanted to search my vehicle to which I said no I know my rights and that was that but all 3 cop cars no no body cams on which in my state happends a lot. I didn't have a camera hooked up at the time so I didn't show my ass but I'm definitely getting one asap.
They claimed I swerved then admitted I just moved lanes to "avoid them" I was litterally in the left lane they were ridding my ass I moved to the right lane and last minute they got behind me as the was turning right and I got back over so I could wait at the light so they wouldn't be following me and shit obviously . They noticed this and all hid up ahead and they had backup already waiting asap. I went up ahead and they were stopped waiting and immediately got behind me and lit me up. Idk I just feel like unless I swerved or did something traffic wise u can't just pull me over for not wanting you to be driving directly behind me the entire time and the fact they purposely were following me last minute switching lanes definetly made me just want to get away from them.
My city has one of the most corrupt police departments statistically wise and the worst crime rate top 5 worst cities for not just homicides but unsolved cases and what not . I just want to be sure what exactly all my rights are and what probable cause actually is and stuff before I refuse to hand over my ID.
I have been pulled over so many times and litterally everything checks out nothing wrong here the cops just fish for shit in my city and are genuinely bad news I would like to know the full extent of the alabama laws and codes but I'm a dummy when it comes to these things .I will start uploading videos so you all can see once someone helps me fully understand my rights because if you think the stuff on youtube is bad ill show you all some wild stuff. I'm not some jerk but I sadly enough have a corrupt police department and need some legal protection from random bullshit stops for no reason at all and harassing the fuck out of me.
Bro after they ran my info it's all good they wanted to search my car I even said earlier my dad just died of cancer I can't sleep I'm just going to buy cigs so that's fucked up to fish for shit to find to arrest me . Like no reason to even search my car bro atleast I'm smart enough to know I can say no to any search and seizures but that's about all I know.

2024.05.15 06:38 serenerepose Mailed a summons to appear for unsafe speed but the citation is missing important information (California)

I was involved in a fender a few weeks ago. It was stop and go traffic on the freeway and we never reached speeds over 15 mph. I didn't stop in time and rear-ended the person in front of me. She insisted on filing a police report so we wait. She talked to the cop first and then I did. The relevant part was he asked why I didn't stop in time and it was because while I was looking straight ahead, I was trying to get my kids to stop hitting each other in the back seat and it just didn't register to me that the person in front of me was stopped till it was too late. I hit the brakes and slowed down but clearly not enough. He asked how fast I was going. I didn't know but we had been going no more than 15 mph for the whole trip so I said no more than 15 mph but I don't know exactly. He asked how far away I was and I told him that I really suck at estimating distances (I do) so I can't answer that. He said fine and gave me the report reference number for my insurance.
Today I received a summons to appear in court for a traffic infraction 22350 vc- traveling at unsafe speed. The speed is not noted on the attached ticket, nor did he check the box declaring that he didn't witness the infraction. I was definitely not traveling at an unsafe speed- I literally couldn't because traffic was crawling. Like, if 15 mph was an unsafe speed then the whole freeway was traveling at an unsafe speed every 30 to 45 seconds. I have to appear at court now over this but I'm unsure why this was even issued and why it was mailed weeks later instead of issued to me at the scene if I clearly violated the traffic code.
What do I do?
FYI, this is literally the 2nd ticket I've ever received in my life (I'm middle aged) and the first time I've ever been summed to court. I'm kind of clueless.

2024.05.15 06:02 Organic_Ad4764 Someone I don't recognise rang my doorbell at 4am.

Hi all! I'm a female in my late-twenties and live in the UK in a building with around 80 apartments. I live with my father who has disabilities, his disabilities require him to have carers check in on him during the daytime and night-time to assist him with changing him (this part is relevant for later on).
Because of his inability to walk, the carers have access to a key-safe located outside of the building (right next to the main entrance to the building). When the carers arrive, they collect the keys, let themselves in and then once the job is completed they place the keys back ready for when the next set of carers arrive. Occasionally, the carers who come at 3/4am have rung the doorbell instead of using the key-safe, but I have not had that issue with them for over 6 months now.
At around 3:45am today, I heard the doorbell ringing (we have an intercom system where you can see who has rang from outside of the building) so my immediate thought was that it was the carers. I looked at the intercom and saw a man I didn't recognise and he was repeatedly looking left and right quite quickly and also looking at the CCTV camera. The intercom alarm is really loud so I wanted to stop it quickly because 1) my dad was asleep and I didn't want him to be scared and 2) it's so loud that neighbours are able to hear it and I didn't want anyone to be disturbed so late. The only way I am able to stop the intercom ringing is if I pick the phone up and then place it back down, the issue with this is that it alerts the person ringing that the call has been answered.
Less than two minutes later, the carers let themselves in. My worry is that the man was still standing outside when they arrived and he could've 1) followed them in (there have been times I have seen people waiting outside of the building and then immediately tailing residents) or 2) seen the carers enter the code for the key safe. The first thing I did after they left was put the chain on the door, which I have set an alarm to take off just before the next set of carers arrive - however, the situation itself worried me because of how late it was at night. There is a lot of antisocial behaviour in this area and there was recently a murder on the street I live on, so I have been a lot more aware of my surroundings and safety.
I have had multiple people ringing our doorbell before asking to be let into the building (I never do because I don't recognise them and I don't want to risk anything) but never this late. There was one occasion a few months ago where a man rang my doorbell and shouted into the intercom that I needed to let him in because he ''forgot his key card'', alarm bells started ringing because our building doesn't use key cards. Since then, I have always just let the doorbell ring whenever someone I don't recognise has rang it, because I don't want them to be alerted that I picked up and didn't let them in - however I had to pick up the phone and put it back down this time because of how late it was (the doorbell noise is extremely loud).
Because of the worry, I rang the non-emergency police line and let them know the situation and my concerns and they made a note of it and said that if it happens again ring them back or if it's urgent ring the police directly.
I can't help but feel like I'm overreacting about this, but the fact that it was so late, the risk of him seeing the carers access the key safe and the risk of him not having good intentions just made me feel like I had to call the non-emergency number just in case.
I suppose I just want to ask what you would've done in my situation given the circumstances and also, what do you do in order to keep yourselves safe in your apartments? (I'm still feeling quite anxious so reading any comments will hopefully help me take my mind off the anxiety).
I apologise for the long post and thank you for reading :)

2024.05.15 05:54 andy_jay_ CPU encoding not respecting bitrate setting

When comparing the quality difference between cpu and gpu transcoding of an MPEG2 file, I noticed that the CPU transcoded file bitrate is about double of what was set in the flow (2775 vs 1000 kbps). The GPU transcoded version bitrate was also higher at 1223kbps, but i'm not as concerned about that.
How can I get Tdarr to respect the bitrate setting when CPU transcoding?

2024.05.15 05:00 LuggaLuggaCat [Landlord OH, USA] Should I allow wireless security alarm systems

Tenant starts her lease soon. She asked if she could have a Ring doorbell or some security alarm system in place. I told her she can have a Ring if she just puts the doorbell back on if she doesn't extend the lease.
I just realized Ring has a plan that would send out the police if you do trip the alarm.
Is it as simple as asking for a code for an alarm? The city requires permits for alarms as well which costs $$$.
What do you do?

2024.05.15 04:29 EccentricSage81 usb4 type C worse than cheap usb ethernet lan landline1900s phones? (rj11/45/cat8e whatevs)

Ethernet has landline 1900s phones two pairs wires reserved in the spec sheet its 8 or so wires when crimping the ends uses like two with one for ground and one seemingly empty and then has two for phone and some unused, with old 10/100 baseT coax with terminating ends exactly like optical or coax 90s cable TV with optical fiber 99% of the way just your block has coax to the rest which uses the 'same'DOCSIS data over cable standards as fibre optic.. just slightly worse latency and bandwidth is calculated by latency things like wifi lan has like 11 channels or 15 channels of frequency which optical calls wavelengths of light. A 2015 or around there linus tech tips video of him going to a swedish lan party called dreamhack had a bunch of multiple redundant 8Terabit or was it bytes of fibre optic internet they explained with light having 7 colors but having 8terabytes of bandwidth with different wavelengths of light called frequencys or a better term for optics is known as LASER ARRAYS of light at fixed frequencys that often plugs into the PC via ethernet cables or whatever for a gamer lan party or home/residential or small businesses at realistically within budget of anything with enough users to require that bandwidth or 'web hosting or web servers' you dont need to be an undersea cable or international link with 200terabits plus for an internet exchange to your main CBD or the fastest like the netherlands IX...
So the problem im trying to solve is, here in australia we got our undersea cables done wrong they kept breaking and we didnt have a navy or defense force securing our countrys communications to prevent war crimes and keep us connected to the global banking systems or whatever.. and then when our biggest telcos cable or fibre all had dialup speeds for around 2 weeks in the early years 2000s to force us to pay other countrys to connect to their links and be ' end of the line' maybe paywalled or proxied off the internet randsomewared to connect to and borrow bandwidth from other countries satellites and other countries undersea link cables which truly were indestructible to any cruise liner ships anchors whatever being flexible giant steel braided cables big as a CAR when australia finally paid to lay small sections of that stuff to link up to others and not pay randsome to internet butt bandits or have private businesses and multi nationals run their own links and ignore the public our lack of a defense force actually let somalian pirates literally somehow pick up and walk off with our expensive undersea car sized cables filled with a few arms thick of hair thin fibre optics which is cheapest clear resin enamels plastics about $3 not sure if USD per kilometer and resembles modern glass/glazing. How does anybody steal that stuff without people noticing like you cant just load it onto a truck and drive away? or a boat? if only satellites and some sort of defense organization existed to prevent us from being impersonated or whatever.. So now in australia ANYTHING with words like gigabit costs a fortune for a mainboard or switch or ethernet hub.. but the ancient 1900s 10/100 telephone land line wires of ethernet 10/100 clock in at a whopping 13 or so mhz sometimes 27.. and 60 or more mhz for like gigabits and whatever it increases shockingly fast with each mhz clock cycle as its units of work over time in nano seconds or zeptoseconds you see billionths of a second nano second RAM and PC with windows realtime kernel actually uses like ryzen hardware negative latency faster than reality freely syncing with any device in the universe and fixed mhz frequency bus can drive like 50 to 100 or thousands of GPU's and HDDs and monitors or whatever from the one modern multicore PC or whatever.. 90s AMD business server still holds world records for most connected devices though it had stackable CPUs opteron and would have used infinity cache type stuff probably software 3dnow and evolving game worlds tech of 80s and 90s AMD gaming evolved advertising.
So in australia anything gigabits costs hundreds of dollars for a switch router some thousands for lots of ports.. but its the shittiest weakest bandwidth ever with mhz and performance miles short of a raspberry pie or whatever. I had to pay a fortune for a mainboard with 10gigabit LAN port and everytime i got a high speed LAN port its been broken or missing so some pricks can sell ebay routers or switches for thousands here.. not knowing why its so expensive is youre paying fortunes for any real bandwidth because australia has to pay literal somalian pirates for their internet connections or privately owned businesses like telstra for access to their private links and glares at countries like new zealand and hawaii for being super technologically superior.. a cheap USB ethernet adaptor costs under 10 bucks on ebay or whatever and is maybe gigabit and your switches and routers 90% of the time you want the cheapest UNMANAGED switch possible. Yet the mainboard i recently purchased ASUS pro art creator x670E i recall had an issue with some asshats trying to steal pathetic measly 40gigabit USB4 chips from all the boards at the computer store to sell on EBay as other junk, when anything in the universe with an M.2 ULTRA slot does 40gigabits since PCI express 3.0/4.0 as PCI express 3.0 SSD drives famously use a specific I/O controller chip which gives them 38gigabits of the ultra M.2 slots 40gigabits of bandwidth. But for a couple years when AMD had pci express 4.0 and better than M.2 ultra intel was playing catch up on PCI express 3.0 and still had regular m.2 in all their boards until AMD was ready for pci express 5.0 my friend on intel bought the same NVME drives and complained they had corruption errors or issues i later learned his board wasnt fast enough and he was maybe trying to use the samsung magician RAM disk and enable NVME features and functions intel maybe did not yet support.
So.. why is USB 4 so many years late and why is it so dang expensive when terabits of ethernet or anything optical is like the cheapest stuff ever and comes with every internet connection since the 90s at the lowest cheapest mhz and 1900s land line wire telephones ever, remember digital isnt a physical thing and everythings literally analog with a sensor or multimeter whatever mathematically translating it to a graph or algebra equation mapping it into different values digitally +10 -10 whatever using microphones or camera sensor whatever. the gigabits tax and uhh LAN port taxes for dumb gay australians being literally see it via satellite outerspace levels dumb and gay astrogaylian should not apply to the cheapest of raspberry pie free 3d print or laser CNC yourself something computery like risc V for the cheapest of USB flash drives or memory cards etc.
I get intel pretends to have invented court ordered USB to probe their hardware after it was proven to have used other peoples code and chips by the chip makers and them selling computers with keyboard and mouse hardwired in so you bought a whole new computer when a key broke on the keyboard couldnt replace them.. and every other device had USB but theirs didnt free open standard and it kinda being the only way to connect any device in the universe and freely sync with it (mics/phones whatever).
why is 1900s phone tech ethernet so dang expensive to go from 20mhz ranges to 80 or whatever mhz ranges or use something very similar to 90s optical audio SPDIF output or anything remotely like a laser in australia? and who would be dumb and gay enough to be so financially retarded as to think that USB 4 was expensive or special as to steal it? am i... missing something?
also before you complain, but ethernets not the same as USB you cant power over ethernet or use your houses electrical wires as ethernet. You also cant use ethernet for monitors or displays, and its not like you can extend HDMI range limit of a about 10 to 15 meters by swapping its ethernet wires with optical ones for it to maintain its HDMI 0 latency spec or type C USB 0 latency spec. USB lets you connect heaps of devices you cant do that with an internet or ethernet for things like keyboard and mice or monitors or whatever. I understand what you mean power over ethernet or PPOE standards suck theres no way those are a thing. using devices over the internet and not the intranet who does that? thats so dumb. remote administration, theres no such thing youre mistaking malware or rootkits im sure. you cant connect a heap of devices up or entire computers to a ethernet port thats the dumbest gayest thing i've ever heard in my entire life! My gaydar is going off and it looks like the wifi symbol.
when trying to use anything ethernet with lame awful bandwidth thats limited, on my AMD board where the website images show AMD ethernet lists as marvel yukon controller i cannot use as its maybe broken there no light on the back, in devices managers advanced tab you can see the send receive or transmit buffer sizes and countless other ethernet settings are MISSING or a blank space. and are limited to 128 on send and 256 on receive up to 4096 or whatever max. But low latency 128 or 256 is maybe best but not all are an option and most networking features on the intel LAN adapters are missing countless advanced ethernet properties and settings because they're fake and lousy and the worst latency ever and they literally seem to swap your windows kernel out with something not realtime so you cannot ever hope to record or playback audio or video or anything close to a video game in hopes of slowly selling it back to you. Linux distros did this too its the dumbest thing ever that to hear or record or playback or play games you must patch in a realtime kernel for free to game like its the 80s and 90s or DOS or whatever. most 90s PCs were CAS 1 or lower nanoseconds. DDR 3 1600mhz depending the maker might be CAS1-4 latency. How can we verify our kernels are correct? and our ethernet and I/O bandwidth is correct? the youtube video about linus tech tips dream hack lan party of gamers in sweden was edited and reuploaded by illiterate asshat buttpirates maybe from somalia or the ones randsoming us some of their internet connections as a proxy piggy back on the international links as we dont have a defense force or army or whatever and dont know what war crimes are or why they are or what the heck a bank is and sure as shit dont know the cost of anything cheap USB or LAN. The dreamhack linus video falsely shows as 6TERABIT. they wanna steal 2TERABITS of EVERY optical or ethernet devices which isnt the government doing it if they wanna see whats in your computer they can document their reasons of why which is what a warrant is they dont need one if they believe a crime is occuring and literally take the computer by law to inspect it then give it back when nothings wrong they leave you a claim ticket and have you document it at the nearest policing station or whatever fill out forms sign 'they are taking my PC and i can get it back when it wasnt used for crimes." when australia doesnt technically have an internet and doesnt technically have RAID arrays which is required to use USB or SSD or NVME or storage tech with no moving parts and multicore a 2TB SSD is twice as fast and often has 2x 1TB wafer chips in there figure it out the IO controller chip supports many and you can buy the cheapest USB sticks with like 16terabytes of storage space i just see a $extend folder or uhh file format header thingy in the partition in my mainboard bios on that particular drive and using any cheap SSD or USB devices makes linux cry about the partition managers cant write or read extending past the storage limit. it doesnt take a genius to figure out what dumb gay fags the whole internet is.

2024.05.15 03:24 -Mandarinarina Coaxed into taking an ambulance trip and trying to understand what will be the impact

Looking for advice on how to potentially contest upcoming ambulance bill and what type of documentation I would need to collect to file a claim.
Today I was in the park with my son (3 years) playing and he fell down and hurt his head and was bleeding, and had a cut that appeared to be small but deep. I went to the firemen, who were just a few feet away and asked if they had any first aid.
The firemen were very friendly but noted that the cut looked deep and they would feel more comfortable getting professional help and they called an ambulance. Before I know it there is a paramedic and EMT checking my son and recommending we take him to the hospital to be treated and tested. A police officer also came to take note of the incident and was asking me what happened and for my details. I was starting to feel overwhelmed, the paramedics recommended I call my husband and while I was trying to explain to him they were prompting me and my son to the ambulance. The paramedic then offered to speak directly to my son, but we were already being ushered in. I and my husband both expressed on the phone we were hesitant due to the cost of ambulances. With my husband in speaker, the paramedic stressed that he was a father and if it was his kid this is what he would be doing and he would ensure that his son received the best medical care, and that in his opinion he needed to be seen at a hospital that had good pediatric facilities. My husband was on his way to where we were but with the panic and everything I went with the paramedics/EMT. In the meantime my husband was blasting my phone angrily that this would likely not be covered by insurance the EMT tried to reassure me that it was usually covered by insurance, which gave me a mild panic attack that I was working to contain not to further stress my son. the hospital that they took us to was 30 minutes away, while there is a children’s clinic 10-15 minutes away.
Once we came home my husband contacted the insurance directly and they informed us that because it was likely not considered urgent we would need to pay the full expense until reaching our deductible. The average price per mile for our zip code is over $360 dollars, so we would be looking at over $6,000 for the ambulance ride alone, if not higher.
I sincerely feel like I was pressured to take the ambulance while my son’s cut was probably not that serious, as they only glued the wound.
Would welcome the insights of this community to know if I have grounds to contest this claim and what information I would need to gather?

2024.05.15 02:15 MrSkoolie The UW administration and the Palestinian protesters have just announced that they've come to an agreement.

Vivek Goel, the president of UW, has managed to come to an agreement with the Palestinian encampment in only two days. An impressive achievement that other universities would do well to learn from and emulate.
The agreement states that the encampments are deemed legal in UW, as long as the proper fees are paid:
Utilities include the unlimited use of the PAC facilities, and deals have been made to allow 24/7 bathroom access to all gas stations that are within a 3km radius of UW.
To understand the sentiments of those directly impacted by this agreement, I spoke with several individuals from both the protest encampment and the administration. Their perspectives provide a deeper insight into the challenges and triumphs of reaching this unprecedented accord.

Voices from the Encampment

One student, who preferred to be anonymous (Layla Atef), said that she was a great supporter of the agreement. "I'll be saving so much money on rent every month now. Before, I had to deal with my creepy-ass landlord who only wanted female tenants. This new arrangement gives me peace of mind. Living on campus in a supportive environment where I only have to worry about knife-wielding incels makes me feel that my safety and well-being are being prioritized."
Another student also expressed their satisfaction with the agreement, declaring that: "his 7-person occupancy tent gives him much more space and privacy than his previous living setup. The administrations willingness to negotiate in good faith was a positive step forward."
But it's not all moonlight and roses for the protesters, as Mohammed Ahmed, the spokesperson of the encampment highlighted: "We know our people well. For most of the UW students it's their first time being outside for more than 30 minutes. We've had to set up workshops to acclimate them to the new environment. We've got the 'Don't Look at the Sun Directly' workshop, the 'Grass Is Not Your Enemy' workshop and have even set up a 'Leetcodes Anonymous' group -- a self-help organization helping those dealing with grinding code addiction."

Interview with Vivek Goel, President of UW

Q: What prompted the university to take such an unorthodox decision?
A: "I read 'The Secret' over the winter and had a complete 360. We in the administration of UW unfortunately believed in the nonsense of 'If you wish hard enough, you'll get everything you desire.' We have to be the owners of our own destiny. Yes, I could've called the police to violently brutalize the protesters and force them to leave. But what would that have gained us? A hefty police bill, bad press, and more angry students! Renting out the land to them is the more prudent financial and moral decision."
Q: Now that the protesters are renting, do you expect this encampment to last a long time?
A: "Unfortunately, that is something that I don't know. I need to get my lazy-ass administrative staff to do at least 1 honest days work this year. Believe me, we are not stalling; we just honestly don't know where half our money is invested in anyway. Hell, it could be in Doge coin for all I know. All I'm happy about is that I've managed to slip in a snow shoveling clause to the rental agreement."
Q: How about meal plans?
A: "Two words habibi. Goose Shawermas. Lazeez has already been running a three-month pilot program. According to them, the average UW student thinks that goose tastes just like chicken."
Q: The PAC is already packed, have you factored in the effect of the extra people?
A: At this question, Vivek Goel guffawed with laughter. "I know my people," he said with tears of mirth in his eyes, "UW students don't take showers."
