Three teams retool

Three teams retool
Jazz cash in on Markkanen. In return get a valuable young player in Franz, a long dated unprotected first, Capela’s expiring, and two seconds.
Hawks get a lengthy shooter to put between Trae and Sarr, and a different (young) point guard not named Dejounte Murray.
Magic give up on Franz, upgrade at the point with a hypothetical two-way player and add a valuable scorer off the bench. As a bonus get one year of walker kessler as a try before you buy.

2024.05.12 22:50 peabrainbyu over reaction

Seems to be a whole lot of over reaction right now for falling two picks in what is considered to be a very weak draft. Obviously getting 1st would be really neat but where this draft is being compared to 2013 there' aren't any stand out, no brain picks.
Role players and what not will still be able to be found at 10 just as likely as they would have been at 10. Keyonte was 16th last year and performed perfectly fine. Last years 8th pick was Jarace Walker who has had 0 impact this season on the Pacers while 10 was Cason Wallace who may not be killing it for OKC but still has made playing time on the 1 seed in the west.
I understand, there's some people out there who will want to use this as more reason as to why we should have traded Lauri, Sexton, and everyone else worth anything for picks and hard tanked, but we are still in a significantly better place right now with our team than a team like the Pistons who has had the best chance at the 1st pick 2 years in a row and came with the 5th.

2024.05.06 01:41 mMounirM [TheAthletic] Detroit Pistons trade proposals: What would it take to get Markkanen? Is Ingram a possibility?

source: https://theathletic.com/5466901/2024/05/03/pistons-trade-scenarios-lauri-markkanen-brandon-ingram-nba/
The article goes through trade proposals for the Pistons this off-season.
1st trade:
Pistons receive: Brandon Ingram and first-round pick in 2024 (No. 21)
Pelicans receive: Jalen Duren and first-round pick in 2024 (Nos. 1-5)
Will Guillory (Pelicans beat writer): As much as the addition of Duren would provide some long-term answers at center that the Pelicans need, this doesn’t feel like the type of return New Orleans would want for a guy of Ingram’s caliber.
If they were to explore potential trade options, it wouldn’t be with the intention of adding more guys to the puzzle that are 21 and younger.
They want to win now. I would thoroughly enjoy seeing Zion Williamson and Duren form the most swole frontcourt of all-time, but Duren’s offense hasn’t progressed enough to feel like he could make up enough of the production that would be lost by shipping out Ingram. Plus, a top-five pick in this year’s draft isn’t nearly as appealing as it would be most years.
2nd trade:
Pistons receive: Bruce Brown, Jakob Poeltl and a 2024 first-round pick (via Indiana)
Raptors receive: Jalen Duren and Evan Fournier
Edwards (Pistons beat writer): In this proposal, Detroit would have to pick up the team option on Fournier, and Toronto would have to do the same for Brown. Why would that be beneficial for the Raptors? Well, they’re clearly in the early stages of a rebuild, and next year’s draft class is significantly more attractive than this years’.
Swapping the contracts of Fournier and Brown makes Toronto worse next season — which it should try to be — while freeing up cap space for this year and, primarily, the summer of 2025, when it might be ready to turn a corner. It also gets off Poeltl’s money while taking on a young, talented center in Duren for the rebuild.
Why would the Pistons do this? Well, adding three rotation players while still having significant cap space to use in free agency is one reason. Poeltl is an upgrade defensively at the center position, Brown has turned into a coveted role player, and the first-round pick could end up being a contributor right away. If my math is correct, the Pistons would still have about $40 million in cap space to work with.
That’s more than enough to go after the likes of Malik Monk, Tobias Harris or a few other legitimate NBA rotation players in free agency. It also still leaves them their first-round pick in 2024 and someone like Ivey to execute another trade for a legitimate starter.
3rd trade:
Pistons receive: Lauri Markkanen
Jazz receive: Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren and 2024 first-round pick
Tony Jones (Jazz beat writer): So, if there was an interest-meter scale from one to 100, this would hardly register a one to the Utah Jazz. The lone pick in the deal comes from a draft where there isn’t a single player that projects to be as good as Markkanen. The two players in the deal are non-shooters and ill fits for Will Hardy’s offense.
I love Jalen Duren because we played at the same high school in Philadelphia (obviously not at the same time). He’s a lob threat offensively who doesn’t handle or shoot the ball with range, and we just saw Hardy this season limit the time of Walker Kessler for this reason. But these are reasons this specific trade doesn’t work for the Jazz.
In a big picture, Markkanen’s value to the Jazz is so great that it’s going to take an offer that is probably not going to come to pry him from the Jazz. Something like four or five first-round picks, and a star-level talent coming over. Markkanen is a 7-footer who shoots 40 percent from 3-point range on volume. He falls out of bed and onto a basketball court, and he’s getting 25 points and 10 rebounds. He doesn’t need to dominate the basketball in order to accumulate these numbers. And most importantly, he’s a star-level player who likes being in Utah. The Jazz fully intend to build around him.
They intend to sign him to a long-term deal. So, if you are the Pistons, unless Cade Cunningham and four first-round picks is the offer, don’t expect the Jazz to stay on the phone for very long.

2024.04.27 23:29 dkmegg22 2024 Mock Draft

Hey folks long time commenter, first time mock drafter. I will keep it to the entire lottery, assume no trades and give a brief explanation as to why. using standings as of today, my BBIQ is very basic though soo do go easy on me.

  1. Detroit-Zaccharie Risacher: Convention and most mock drafts have them pick Sarr, however Detroit needs someone who can space the floor and Risacher is a big wing who can shoot. They have guards already but i like this fit better for Detroit since they need either wings or a more serviceable big.
  2. Washington-Alex Sarr: I think he's a better fit on the Wizards then Detroit and with Washington going to be bad for a few years they can take a project who could develop into their main interior presence. Washington was 28th on defense soo Sarr could play a key role anchoring their D.
  3. Charlotte-Stephon Castle: Ok soo this is gonna be a weird but hear me out, Miller has been a stud for the Hornets and LaMelo coming back from their injury they probably need someone at the 2 as they have some serviceable bigs. Soo Im gonna go with the Swiss Army knife player in Castle who could play with Melo and be a pesky defender like Suggs did for Orlando. Charlotte was 28th on offense and 29th on defense soo i see the fit as interesting.
  4. Portland-Cody Williams: For me Portland needs more 3 & D wings and not smaller guards, soo Im gonna with the next wing available for them. Sharpe, Simons and Scoot is an undersized backcourt soo they dont need a guard. Williams the brother of J Dub is a match made in heaven for the Blazers. Although on low shooting he had great efficiency although if he could be a better playmaker it would take his gme to the next level.
  5. San Antonio-Nikola Topić: Match made in heaven, the best playmaker in the draft and his P&R with Wemby. Nothing new to write here. Most common mock has him here.
  6. Toronto- Reed Sheppard: Raptors were 26th in three point shooting and could be a good fit for now on Toronto's second unit. Although undersized he's a huslee and averaged 2.5 steals a game and could give future eastern teams fits on the defensive side although he is slightly undersized.
  7. Memphis:Donovan Clingan--Feels like Memphis needs more depth at the 5 with Adams and Clarke. Clingan will have the best supporting class(minus say OKC) with Memphis. Maybe they trade the pick but if they keep the pick then they're getting a dominant big who can patrol the pain and make blocks. Having a guy like Adams to learn from will be great.
  8. Utah: Matas Buzelis-- A small drop ends here, with Keyonte George, Lauri, Walker Kessler, Hendricks and now adding Buzelis gives the Jazz such a strong working core. potentially he could slip even more depending on whoever drafts him. His 6'10 frame and length will give defenses fits although he does need to be a better shooter.
  9. Houston-Rob Dillingham: Houston is tough to predict so im gonna go with Rob Dillingham. Amen isn't a 3pt good shooter, Green is inefficient so I figure to give them a guy who could space the floor with his shooting. Amen could be more of a defensive specialist who could cover for Dillingham's defensive weaknesses.
  10. Atlanta-Kyle Filipowski: I'm going off the board a bit, Atlanta had the 4th worst defensive rating in the league not to mention questions surrounding Clint Capela I figure Atlanta could go big with a Kyle Filipowski. A front court of Onyeka Okongwu and Kyle Filipowski would be intriguing to say the least.
  11. Chicago-Ron Holland: Minus Atlanta the Hawks are the most mid team in the league and need a rebuild drastically so im gonna go with the guy who has the most upside in Holland. Holland needs to be a better shooter since he shot only 23.9% from the 3 and that's not gonna be tolerated.
  12. OKC-Tidjane Salaun: It was a debate between him Salaun and Knecht but i figure they need the size more. OKC seems to like swiss army type players who can do a bit of everything. Although his shooting wasn't ideal his 80% free throw rate does mean he could be a servicable shooter. OKC has tonnes of time to be patient with him but he becomes another threat for OKC.
  13. Sacramento-Dalton Knecht: He's been mocked all over the lottery soo him dropping to 13 isnt anything controversial. Sacramento fans hate on Barnes from my minimal interaction on the subreddits and Knecht could play at the 3 although hes not a starter caliber and needs to be covered for his defensive weaknesses. He's more of an offensive spark plug off the bench.
  14. Portland-Tristan da Silva: It's a slight reach but as i said Portland needs 3 and D guy and although he's older He and his teammate Cody Williams will continue to grow together. Da silva is a solid defender has the versatility to guard multiple positions. He doesnt have to be "The GUY" but he's in hockey terms a two way 3rd line player who can play up and down the lineup whenever necessary.
That's my mock draft btw. Some observations of players that intrigued me are Tristan Da Silva, is gonna be very popular due to his 3&D qualities, I could see a team like OKC really coveting him but i thought a jump to 12 would be a bit much Memphis could maybe use another PG for their second unit. Castle is kinda intriguing but he needs to be a better shooter but goodness the Hornets are a systemic shithole of a team that needs a bit of everything. But overall a lot will change based off the lottery.

2024.04.23 18:16 MetroidsSuffering I HAAATTEEEE the "draft pundits promote obviously horrific fits that could never work to justify BPA without encouraging a trade" part of the draft.

Last year we had the extremely obnoxious "yes, Scoot is an extremely raw PG years away from winning, but he can definitely play with the 34 year old PG who has complained constantly about tanking and rebuilding" draft subplot from guys like Givony and it's somehow already starting this year.
MavsDraft was on a Utah Jazz podcast and was asked what the Jazz should do if they got the first pick. He said Sarr because Sarr was the best player and then tried to argue that Sarr could fit well with Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler.
And it's like....
  1. Sarr's body is so physically underdeveloped that it will take him until year 4 or so to be a winning player, Markkanen probably has five star years left.
  2. Sarr offensively is so horrendous that he absolutely has to play center until he learns how to shoot (if he ever does)... And if he does learn how to shoot... That's way more valuable at center!
  3. Walker Kessler cannot play at all with another center as shown by the Jazz being the worst team in NBA history (-14.8) when he and John Collins were on the court at the same time.
  4. Sarr is a near clone of the Jazz's draft pick from last year, Taylor Hendricks. The difference is that Sarr cannot shoot at all currently and Sarr is big enough to play center once he bulks up. Moving Sarr to PF just makes him worse than Taylor Hendricks... Who we already have?
"You should take BPA, it's a pretty awful fit, but that's what trades are for and most young guys don't pan out anyway" this is what you should argue. Not some tortured account about why the worst fit of all time will actually work great.

2024.04.21 14:45 BurntToast_4 Now that the season is over, where do we go from here?

Hello! First post ever on this sub and here to say that this is a relatively long post but it's all merely a compilation of thoughts I had accumulated throughout the season.
If you don’t agree on a take, please, by all means, you are free to voice it out. Let’s act civil and be reminded that this is all theoretical and based on my opinion. So let me start it off by mentioning the obvious.
Our untouchables (At least for next season): Ja, Bane, JJJ, GG, Vince
So what I think we should do this off season:
Trade Jitty and Ziaire
Jitty has been with us for quite a while, so I can see how the fans wouldn't like this idea, but it’s time to move on from Konchar and his 6.2 million contract next season. If a team that's in need of a good wing sees value and trades for him, that would be ideal. More so, with Ziaire and his looming extension, it'll be a mistake bringing him back. Although he has shown some spurts of potential here and there, he is just too injury-prone, and he needs to be in another place where he could unleash and grow his game, not on our team, which would be way too competitive next season. Adding to this point, the recent emergence of Vince, GG, and even Luke fortifies our wing depth for the foreseeable future and makes guys like Jitty and Ziaire expendable. Ideally, some teams see value in one or both, but it wouldn't hurt to throw in one or two second rounders just to get these guys off the books next season.
Trade Yuta (Scratch this)
He is most likely going to accept his player option next season, and once he does, we should trade him as we need that roster spot for someone else. I’d trade a second rounder with him just to get him off the books as well. Fingers crossed, he bets on himself and declines, finding a longer-term contract with another team. (Okay so, I just found out he will decline and play in Japan, best of luck to you Yuta!)
Resign Luke
Ideally, we decline the team option worth 14.8mil and resign him to a longer-term contract worth around 11-13mil a year for three years. This is reasonable being a top three point shooter in the league and also allows us to have a tradeable asset in the future. But I wouldn't be surprised if he signed elsewhere, given that Grayson Allen got 70mil for 4 years.
Resign Stevens
2-3 year fully guaranteed minimum deal, gives our guy security that he stays in the league while we get an outstanding third stringer that honestly could be a solid rotational piece for us when some of our guys get injured.
Draft Clingan
Realistically, he’d likely be our pick this draft, not unless we luck out and get Sarr, but given Kleiman’s statement that we’ll be adding a big next season, I could see that this would be a safe pick for us, for he has shown to be all that we could need, a big-bodied screen setter who can play the middle, rebound, and be the roll man, and on top of that, he has shown the capability to make plays down the post, which was for me, what made Steven Adams flourish during his stint with us. This provides us with versatility, as we could play big against certain lineups like Minnesota, Denver, and the Cavs. On the other hand, we could switch to Clarke guarding smaller, more agile bigs like Golden State’s Draymond Green and Utah’s Lauri Markkanen. It’s just perfect and solves our Big Men problems this coming season.
Sign Lonnie Walker IV and Alex Len
So this one is tricky. I could see us keeping Goodwin for Lonnie and Perreira for Alex, but in this case, I'd sign Lonnie and Alex if we opt not to pick those two up this coming season. To emphasize, we are in need of reserves who could play 10-15 minutes and not the rotational guys we need for the playoffs, so for that, I could see us getting Lonnie and Alex to fill in these roles for 1 year on a minimum. (I could see Lonnie turning us down for greener pastures such as Orlando but hey this is simply theoretical)
That then leaves our Lineup for next season:
Starters
Ja Morant
Marcus Smart
Desmond Bane
Jaren Jackson Jr.
Brandon Clarke
Bench
Luke Kennard
Vince Williams Jr.
GG Jackson
Santi Aldama
Donovan Clingan
Reserves
Scotty Pippen Jr. (TW)
Lonnie Walker IV
Jake LaRavia
Lamar Stevens
Trey Jemison (TW)
Alex Len
Derrick Rose
My reasoning:
With Ja, Bane, and Trip given as locks as they are our core, all I need to provide justification for is Smart and BC. So far this season, Clarke has been able to be the same player pre-injury without all the dunks but has clearly gotten stronger. As expected, he has shown himself to be someone who could box out well, screen set, defend multiple positions, and shoot with confidence, especially his floaters. This and his experience are more than enough for him to be given that starting spot. Smart not being in the starting 5 at the start of next season doesn't make sense to me; with experience and defense, he's earned this spot as our starting point of attack defender to guard the best guard of the opposing team. I could see him losing this spot for Vince, since he's a bit taller and would blend in well with our 5. GG is just too young at this point and too raw in defense for him to be given that starting spot. All in all, they could get flipped for Vince and Clingan, depending on the opposing team's lineups.
For our bench next season, I could see Vince and Kennard share playmaking duties whenever Ja or Des sits. It's a revelation to see both of these guys be capable of that playmaking role with the injuries we had this season. Moreover, GG would be our main scorer off the bench, ideally matching or getting close to what he averaged this season but with better efficiency with the gravity that Ja, Des, and Kennard provide. Santi, though still sucking at defense, has improved a tad bit; he would provide us with spacing, height, and is a proven reliable bucket getter. Clingan is here because it wouldn't be like us to start him immediately, i mean even Ja started off the bench in his first game, it would consequently relieve a bit of pressure from him.
I cannot fathom how some people think we should get rid of Rose. Surely, they don’t see how this man is the literal figure that could set guys straight and bring the right attitude out of our guys in the locker room. I remember coming across a statement from former Grizzly, Xavier Tillman Sr., who stressed how much different the locker rooms are between the Grizzlies and Celtics, who are poised to win a championship this season. If you also saw that, you’d know what I’m talking about, but the point is that Rose brings maturity, guidance, and mentorship to our young guys, such as Ja and SPJ, while consequently being one of the guys leading the locker room. Oh, but why not get a coaching job then? Well, the answer to that is because he clearly doesn’t want to hang it up yet; he provides so much to our young guys, even though he plays around 30-40% of the games, and we can't do anything about that. But whatever happens in the future, next season should be his last for the Grizzlies.
Lastly, for our reserves, which is what I’m most excited for next season, it's arguable that our reserves may be even stronger than some NBA second units, and that is a fact. That said, SPJ has really blossomed this season; he potentially could be a version of Tyus with better scoring and defense, and we should most definitely capitalize on his 2 year two-way deal. It's criminal that he's a third stringer, but with how injury-prone some of our guys tend to be, it would be easy to slot him in that backup guard role. Lonnie Walker would then provide us with range and is easily a playoff rotational player on some NBA teams. More so, Jake showed flashes of potential this late in the season, providing us with great and efficient scoring games. He should most definitely gain minutes at the three and two in some nights, filling in the gap that Jitty would leave. Lamar has great defense and has shown himself to be a capable scorer on and off the ball. Such a great pickup from that Tillman trade. Trey and Len would be our reserve bigs who fill in the need regarding situations where we need a quicker, more athletic big or a taller, more technical big.
Looking long term:
I could see Vince being the Marcus smart replacement, as he has shown potential to be the same type of player, maybe not DPOY-level defense, but is close at least and could rebound well like Jitty and make plays like Kennard. That said, I’d like to emphasize that Vince is a guard and not a starting SF. Sure, he can play the 3 but he just plays better as a guard given what he has shown as the primary ball handler and playmaker at times this season. In the future, he will be our go-to point of attack defender who could knock some open shots while supporting the ball handling role along with Ja and Des. Clarke, on the other hand, will be our version of Looney in terms of accepting whatever role he is given with no complaints. I see him being relegated to the bench as soon as Clingan gets his reps and proves he is worth that starting spot. And did yall see that interview of him stating that he'll be fine with a bench role? I really hope we keep him for long. Santi and Kennard should be goners after next season, this'll be more prevalent once next season aclose. SPJ would be Ja's replacement off the bench hopefully at the level of what Tyus has been for us during his stint with us. GG and Clingan would then slot in the starting roles, ideally more improved defenders, and with at least a year of experience under their belts, they would be rounding up our starting 5 in the future. Vince as the first man off the bench, and Clarke, SPJ, and Jake helping out.
If you made it this far, I'd like to thank you. I made this for quite a while and only submitted it now because of my studies. I hope to get some replies so we can talk more about Grizzlies basketball.

2024.04.16 13:44 MetroidsSuffering Who gets moved?

A too early Jazz rotation projection looks like
PG: Keyonte George
SG: Jordan Clarkson
SF: Taylor Hendricks
PF: Lauri Markkanen
C: John Collins
Bench guard: Collin Sexton
Bench big: Walker Kessler
Bench wing: ???
Other bench: 8th overall pick, Brice Sensabaugh
Deep bench/G League: 28th pick, 32nd pick
This is a LOT of young players and very little defense.
Without significant injuries or declines in the West next year (always possible, of course), the Jazz are unlikely to make the play-in without massive defensive improvement and maybe even adding another star so I'm not sure how hard they will go, but I don't think they want this many young players or be this bad at defense again.
The most obvious moves would be trading Jordan Clarkson and trying to bring in a SG and a SF who could start and play defense, but it's not clear how those will happen.
If the 8th overall pick is in the rotation (questionable, of course), the Jazz's rotation would include one third year player, two second year players, and one rookie and that's just a lot of young guys even before getting to Sensabaugh and the two later picks.

names people middlenames caricature totaldramaisland Total Drama just isn’t Total Drama without complete names for all its characters. Here are some full names for all the campers, racers, and hosts. The last names and non-canon first names were first submitted by www.deviantart.com/flamefyre12…, but the middle names are my own invention, and one of the main points of this exercise, the other being trying to make these characters seem more like people to devoted Total Drama fans and less like mere stereotypical caricatures.
