I love Plantronics now Poly (owned by HP) I’ve been using them for years. A few months ago I bought the Series 60 and they work great, but in the middle of my conversation it disconnects from my phone and I have to manually re-connect again. Some say it’s a wireless interference that causes it, but in this day and age most houses are wireless. I have Nest, Alexa, and you name it but still that should not be a problem. Any technical solution out there? Thanks.

I just got a new Plantronics Poly 8225 wired headset for work, and every time I mute or unmute, whether it's from the button on the controls or the mute button in Teams, I get a vocal notification that says "mute on" or "mute off". It's very annoying. How do I make it stop?
I tried doing a search but haven't found anything in the user manual.

EDIT: By installing Plantronics Hub, you can get the vocal notifications turned off, but there has to be SOME notification (there's no "off" option), so I went with the "single tone" beep.

My PC is designed for low power consumption. At full tilt, it might hit 150w, but usually, it's much less.

2023.05.02 03:29 StressFart Any Manual Way To Update Firmware? Voyager Focus 2 Support is not really helping

I have a Poly VFocus 2 with the charging base and USB dongle, about a year old. Upgraded from the Original Plantronics VFocus that I had for literally 4 years with ZERO issues. Only upgraded as it was beginning to ahow it's age, but I still have it and it still works perfectly(pads worn to nothing at this point, ha)
I've been having some serious & sporadic issues with charging, it will either charge very slowly or not at all then will suddenly charge just fine. It's gotten worse over the last few weeks. It doesn't matter if I charge with the dock or usb cable or if it's on or off. Have reset the sensors and device several times. Leave it charging overnight and sometimes it will only get to 20%.
It's also quite behind on Firmware so trying to get it updated hoping it'll help, it refuses to update through both the Poly mobile or desktop app, no matter how charged the headset or my phone is, it just sits there. Reinstalled the desktop and mobile apps multiple times. Tried from a different phone and a different computer, different cable. The USB dongle updated perfectly fine, but the headset literally does nothing.
Even tried the older Plantronics desktop app since I still have the exe, it sees it but it does nothing.
Poly support hasn't given me any new tricks, I've asked repeatedly for them to send the firmware because on the desktop app(maybe I'm thinking of the Plantronics Hub) it gives me an option to upload firmware manually.
Just hoping if anybody has dealt with this and/or knows some new or advanced tricks I can try. Thank you in advance for your time.

I would suggest we try to centralise here all bug / quirks of the new FW, and mainly multipoint feature introduced, rather than making the usual mess of hundreds of similar posts in the sub.
Let me begin:

Presumably Device1 will always be the smartphone hosting the Sony Headphones app
No idea what happens with 2 connected devices (either android/android or android/iOS) both have Headphones app
I have noticed that in the "Manage Connected Device" submenu of the Sony Headphones app, there is a "Fix"/"Unfix" feature that can be triggered on each connected device. Documentation popup says: "Fixes the device to playback music to .". I am guessing this has something to do with the automatic switch between HiFi audio output vs. Headset lower quality output to accomodate mic input data. but I am not sure. => Can somebody confirm?
Contrary to some other lowcost headsets I have (plantronics for instance), Sony's multipoint implementation doesn't seem to either be able to automatically shift focus to a connected device that starts outputting sound and there doesn't seem to be a way to program earbud touch features to manually quickswitch between devices. Switch is manual and requires to open Sony's Headphones app and trigger the switch from a submenu. Half-baked implementation imho.
Having set up a windows10 laptop as Device2, my findings are the following: as Windows does not officially support LDAC, and since WF1000-XM4 do not support AptX(HD), the fallback CODEC is SBC. However, one can use the third party Alternative A2DP driver which brings LDAC support to Windows machines (used to be a free beta, public release is now paying)
This LDAC used to work great, but since FW2.0.0 it has stared producing very choppy sound. My hypothesis are:
- either it's the FW2.0.0 multipoint that is not able to cope with several devices each using LDAC codec. Or Maybe connected devices other thand the primary device1 are allotted a smaller bandwidth, sufficient for SBC, but too small to accomodate LDAC?
- or it's this alternative windows LDAC driver that somehow doesn't play well with FW2.0.0

=> Can somebody please try connecting 2 android devices running LDAC codec and report on sound quality / chopiness please?

Hi,
I just got myself a set of brand new 700NC to replace the Plantronics Voyager Focus I've been hauling for the past 6 years
While initial impressions were nice (writing this on day 1) I have some interrogations on the interface and how it handles multidevice.
1- Does one need to manually close/mute the current source before it's able to latch on to the second one? > I'm used to my PLT automatically switching to the last source to produce sound, which I find makes much more sense?
2- When losing connection with a device (by walking away from it for instance), does it not reconnect to it automatically when it gets back in range? Do I have to get back in manually in the app or the device to reconnect?
3- I've tried the jack cable and there seems to be an issue with the plug on the headset? No sound on the left side, unless I apply pressure to the plug inwards??
4- Can I really not use it while plugged in and charging?
Those points I could eventually get around, but what prompted me to write this post was the issue that literally just happened minutes ago;
3- While simply listening to spotify from my laptop, the left ear cup suddenly died; producing nothing but wind noise, seemingly related to the ambient noise but really off; unuseable. > Restarting didn't fix it, I then looked into updating firmware by usb, but it's already on the latest... > I then tried leaving it to charge for a few more minutes, and when I unplugged it was all good again!
What the heck is going on here please tell me this is a faulty unit thing and not the norm...
Interestingly enough, even though I just purchased it yesterday, the tech info says it was made in september 2019...
Should I just get it exchanged for a newer unit? What's your experience with yours?

2022.12.05 22:15 punkbuddy89 can anyone tell my why this one, seemingly unspecial, pair of bluetooth earbuds gives me very little latency?

I know bluetooth headphones will have latency most of the time, when playing games. You don't experience it when watching videos because they are usually delayed to match the audio latency. I also know there are some codecs that have better latency than others, but I dont think ive ever owned a pair of earbuds or a device that uses those codecs. But I have one random pair of earbuds that I really dont care for, but they are so good in terms of latency. Like 60ms, if not better. I really cant perceive any audio delays. They are Senso Activbuds s-250. Can anyone tell me why these seem to work so much better than every other bluetooth device ive tried.
Devices Ive tried:
Senso Activbuds s250 - amazing latency.
Enacfire e60 - horrible. Like 300ms minimum
Plantronics Voyager Focus - horrible
some bose over ear - horrible

I looked at my phone when the Senso were connected and it was using the SBC codec. I set my enacfire to that manually but didnt hear any improvement. I dont really know what specs to be looking at to determine if an earbud will have better latency for gaming. Im just a casual phone gamer so I dont care about MLG levels of latency. I just dont want a 3rd of a second between actions. And I cant use any earbuds that come with their own dongle.

Has anyone else used the Senso and experienced the same? Im just curious why this one budget option is so much better than everything else. I like the carrying case and form factor of the enacfire, but i cant game on my phone with those. I would love to find out what the sensos have in them, so I dont have to use both pairs, and can find something without the wire between them like my enacfires.

Edit: Im using a Galaxy S20 , but I experienced the same results on my Quest 2. Not sure how much the device makes a difference VS the bluetooth earbud itself.

2022.04.26 19:05 Tindjin Hotkey change of input device?

I switch regularly between my laptop's speakemicrophone and a Plantronics (Poly now) wireless headset (BT600). Is there anyway to create a key binding to make this switch rather than having to go into settings and manually change it each time? I know it is a minor thing but it would be nice if I forgot which I used last and have to scramble to make the change during dead air from a call. I usually use the headset during individual calls or meetings where I will do a lot of talking but then for meetings where I will mostly be listening it is nice not to have the ear strain from pulling the headset (inner ear) on and off all the time.

2022.01.03 08:41 westcoastweenie New PSB M4U8 MKii. Haven't seen a single review so I thought id share my thoughts

Has anyone else gotten their hands on the new PSB M4U8 Mkii? My pair arrived a couple weeks ago and have been used extensively so I thought I would talk about them a little. Just some basic info that will hopefully help someone out.

Build: The build is probably the same as the MK-i, faux leather on pads and headband, plastic cups and swivel, chromed aluminum adjustment slide and folding hinge assembly. There isn't anything poor to speak of, but at the same time, nothing that makes you go wow. At the least id say they are certainly more inspiring than something like the 1000xm4s.

Comfort: Very comfortable with plush and deep-ish oval pads. The driver is mounted at around a 15-deg angle so the available space is deeper towards the back of your ears where its needed. The headband is well padded where its needed (on the inside) and I personally feel no issue with pressure points, heat or excess clamping during multi hour sessions, but I'm pretty un-fussy as far as comfort. An important side note, the headphone arms fold in on each other to pack well which is nice, but they traded the folding for a lack of ear cup swiveling. This means every time they end up around my neck I feel the need to throw up from the pressure of the ear pads on my throat.

Battery: **Though not advertised or in the manual, they still use NIMH AAA batteries. This is AMAZING imo.** Battery life hits the 25 hour mark as promised but I find that irrelevant for the reason above. If I know I'm going to be in a situation where I wont be charging them, I just pack spare batteries, if its going to be very, very cold, lithium AAAs. I have comfort in knowing the batteries are forever replaceable, finally stopping the need for bi-yearly BT headphone replacement due to worn out and irreplaceable lithium pouch cell batteries.

SOUND: Very few complaints with regards to sound from me here. I have some limited experience with nice headphones (I own focal elegias and hd650s. I've spent time with hd800s, a few grados, focal utopias, Audeze lcd-2s)
As far as a general sound profile I think they follow the Harman curve pretty closley.
The bass is slightly forward but by no means offensively so. Bass is tight and well textured with essentially no midrange bleed as far as I can tell. The bass probably what took me by surprise the most at first. Very little bloat and great technicality, not quite as quick and punchy as my elegias but very close.
I cant speak too well of the mids, but vocals sound present and natural, instruments are full bodied and well textured.
Highs are almost great. These are definitely the most detailed BT headphones I've owned or heard (sonys, senns, plantronics backbeat pro 2). The main issue is a peak somewhere in the sibilance range that is either livable in the background or totally unpleasant depending on what's playing. Its a very fixable issue.. if there was a damn eq (ill get to that later).
The imaging is as good as I've heard from closed headphones personally, I suspect this is their whole "room feel technology" thing doing its work. Instruments are well placed and the image has pretty darn good depth, certainly better than my hd650s or elegias have. They really didn't feel closed in to me at all, but maybe I've just never heard a super open and airy headphone properly (HD800s were tested in a noisy crappy environment with a not great amp and an old ipod classic).

ANC: Really good.. I think. Its been a good while since I've heard any of the heavy hitters like the Sonys, so I simply don't remember the specifics of how well they cut out everything around you. For what its worth, I can go sit at the property line of my local petroleum refinery and hear nothing with music playing at what id consider a pretty quiet level. It can be a bit deceptive as these use adaptive ANC so the amount of noise reduction keeps changing to suit the environment. When in a quiet room, the ANC feels pretty pathetic and left me disappointed when I first got them, until I understood what they were doing.

FEATURES/APP:
ADIODO hearing test eq: It made everything a treble heavy disaster to my ears, tried probably 10 times, same result without lying on the test. I've heard audiodo fixes their profiling with feedback so this may improve over time.
Sound pass though feature: Stupid. It drops the music level wayyyy down. I want to be able to hear surroundings AND music. If I wanted no music I would just take them off. Probably fixable with a firmware update if its a common complaint.
APP: Terrible. No EQ, No ANC control, No pass though control, No button mapping, No nothing except a sleep timer, battery level, model number and audiodo features. Again, fixable with updates.

VALUE:
They are 500 cad, which sure isn't cheap, but with great sound/ANC, replaceable pads, replaceable batteries, a good overall build and issues that I hope to be software based teething issues, these are a pair of BT headphones I expect to keep me happy for 5 or 6 years without falling to pieces. That is something I cant say about many of the mainstream options around today.

TLDR;
PROS:
-detailed, wonderful (for BT) sound.
-comfy and built well
-great anc
-AAA batteries
CONS:
-Uncomfortable on neck
-Terrible app, no control, no eq
-Audiodo kinda sucks so far
- Pass though cuts music so much id rather just take them off.

So I have a Plantronics Voyager focus UC connected to my work computer via Bluetooth but it will not auto answer whenever a call comes in on Skype for business. If I pick up the headset off the dock it doesn't connect. To make matters worse when I press the answer call button on the headset manually it won't answer either so I basically lose the call and have to call back. If I have the headset on I can make a call from Skype with no issues. Now if I connect this same headset to my cell phone via Bluetooth and get a call it auto answers as soon as I pick it up. Any thoughts on what the problem may be ?

Tl;dr: Microsoft Surface Book 2 can handle 5120x1440 on a 49" ultrawide monitor via a direct USB C connection. However, there are some caveats due to the constraints of USB C; namely power draw, USB 2.0 vs 3.0 speeds and DisplayPort limitations.

I'd like to share my experiences regarding selecting and setting up a 49" ultrawide monitor with my Surface Book 2 15" laptop for a 5120x1440 resolution. Picture uploaded for reference - sorry, it's not as glamourous as some of the amazing setups I see on this sub.
One of the reasons for this post and its length is that I tried researching a lot of this prior to my purchase. I found several posts saying that 5120 x 1440 would work on a Surface Book 2, but struggled to find anything comprehensive. As you'll see, I still missed some fundamentals, which I wish I'd known beforehand but have managed to get around since.
Let's begin… A while back, I wanted to upgrade my home working setup. I trawled various articles, read reviews and filled/emptied/re-filled various shopping carts over the last 6 months. Finally, a few weeks ago, I bit the bullet the other week. This is how I came to my decision, and some of the lessons I learnt.
My original setup was:

Surface Book 2 15" (Core i7 / 16GB / 256GB with discrete Nvidia GTX 1060 GPU)
1 x Iiyama 24" monitor
1 x Samsung 24" TV/Monitor
Surface Dock 1 using mini-DP to HDMI on each screen running 1080
Logitech C270 720p webcam (with the continued working from home, I thought an upgrade was in order if money allowed).

Note: I'd not really set a budget, but didn't want to be entering the £1500 territory. I was aiming for spending around £1000 or there or thereabouts…
I used the two monitors and SB2 screen to create three desktops. I work in IT and use the setup for productivity, e.g. Word, Excel, Visio, Browsers, etc. I rarely game on this setup.
My main requirements were more screen real estate and also to remove the volume of power and video cables (3 power: 2 x monitor + 1 x Surface Dock, and 2 x mini-DP HDMI), although screen real estate (with no bevel break) was my main goal.
After various discussions with friends over whether 49" ultrawide (5120 x 1440) was 'too' wide and perhaps a 3840 x 1440 or 3240 x 1600/2160 on 38" might be better for screen management, I went for ultrawide - this is mainly because I am used to panning my eyes left and right over the screens.
The models I considered and why I did/didn't opt for them were:

Samsung G9 - Best in terms of refresh rate and spec. I didn't go for this model for a couple of reasons. I thought the 1000R curve would be too much for productivity (I'd read reviews where people said it was actually very good, but it didn't feel right to me). The high refresh rate was of no use as (a) I didn't plan to use it for gaming, and more importantly, (b) the SB2 wouldn't be able to handle it. I did consider changing to a desktop in the future, but even then, the high refresh rate wouldn't make a huge difference with my Visio diagrams. Also, the screen only supported DisplayPort and HDMI. This meant I would have to buy a new Surface Dock 2 and use a USB C DP cable to drive the 5120x1440 resolution if I wanted to get power and USB hub capacity to the laptop to keep my cable count down. A circa £1100 G9 + £200 Surface Dock 2 wouldn't leave much left for a new webcam.

Samsung RG9 - The little brother of the G9 but still impressive specs. Less aggressive curve, lower refresh rate and more importantly, a few hundred quid cheaper. I was very close to ordering this model, but the lack of USB C connectivity/hub put me off. As with the G9, it would have meant a Surface Dock 2 purchase, and I wasn't sure I wanted to lock myself into more Microsoft tech in the event I went with another laptop brand in the future.

LG 49WL95C - Again, very close to ordering this model. It ticked all the boxes barring one (which when you read on, would have made zero difference). The LG has more or less the same spaces as the Samsung models but has USB C connectivity. The missing item was an ethernet connection in the monitor’s hub - this would have meant using an Ethernet dongle in one of the USB ports or connecting another USB hub. While I've got the Asus ZenWifi 6 mesh Wi-fi, I still prefer ethernet connectivity for work. The lack of Ethernet wasn't a deal-breaker, but at over £1,000, it meant side-by-side, when compared to my final selection, there was no reason to opt for the LG.

Phillips 499P - This is the model I ordered. I went with this model because it met all the specs I was after for the best price. It supported USB C for video and a USB Hub, which included Ethernet. It also included a webcam and speakers which added to the value. The speakers I was less concerned with. But I thought the webcam might be an upgrade on my Logitech model. I was wrong. More on this later…

After dismantling my Surface Dock and old monitors, I hooked up the Phillips. I'd seen reviews where people said the screws don't line up to the stand. The instructions - actually on the box itself - state you must mount the stand to the monitor while the screen is still in the box. This achieved, the thing was heaved onto the desk, plugged in and connected to the SB2 with the provided USB C lead.
Amazingly, when Windows 10 booted up, it selected the 5120 x 1440 resolution automatically. This was my main concern out of the way immediately. I tweaked the settings and found I could run the screen at 70Hz - although the manual recommends 60Hz (not sure why?).
It must be noted that I am running the none-OEM drivers, which I replaced with the Intel Command Center drivers on their website - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html. Whether this would have worked otherwise, I'm not sure. It will be interesting to see how Windows 11 handles it. Updates to these drivers via Intel have caused no issues (thus far).
I was quite bemused to find that Phillips provided a CD with the drivers and manual on…!?! They might of well included them on 5.25 floppy disk. I downloaded the driver .inf file from the Phillips site to set the monitor correctly in Device Manager, then installed the Phillips 'Smart Control' software. This installs to the root of c:\ , e.g. instead of Program Files, so I'm not sure what decade the software people at Phillips are living in.
Everything was looking good with the setup, then I found my first issue.
There was a slight, but noticeable hiss/whine coming from the monitor in a quiet room. On closer inspection, it was coming from the back of the monitor where the vent is. I left it for a few days wondering if the monitor needed to 'bed in', but it wasn't going away. My first guess was correct - it was the power supply from the monitor to the SB2 laptop via USB C. It seemed as though the laptop was drawing the max power it could from the monitor and pushing the limits of the circuitry (I'm no electrical engineer, so this could be rubbish). I confirmed the theory by connecting the Surface Book power supply, which uses the Surface Adaptor. When I connected this, the hiss/whine stopped. The sound probably wouldn't bother most people, but the slightest noise distracts me when I'm working, so I had no choice but to connect the power supply and the USB connection. This meant two connections into the laptop, which wasn't ideal, but at least the noise stopped. To confirm, when I say noise, it was a very faint sound, not something that sounded faulty, but something that I fairly quickly associated with a power hum/buzz.
My second issue was that the USB hub capability of the monitor was at USB 2 speeds. I have a 2TB USB 3 drive hooked up for archiving big files on to, so this meant I either needed to plug the drive into the USB 3 port on the SB2, or operate it at USB 2 speeds. I rarely shift large files back and forth, so I could handle the USB 2 speeds for the occasional use. I found that I could force the monitor to utilise USB 3 speeds, but when I selected this, it downgraded the monitor to 5120 x 1440 at 30Hz. This was a far worse compromise than the USB 2 speeds, so back the option went.
Not to be dissuaded, I carried on and had a crack with the webcam. The reviews I'd read said it wasn't high quality, but 'how bad could it be', I thought. The answer: pretty bad. The thing seems to work in ISO 50000 leaving a very grainy image and nowhere near the quality of my 4yr old Logitech 720 webcam. The Phillips' monitor's webcam did support Windows Hello, which was nice, but the poor quality meant my mind was made up with investing in a new model. I looked at the Brio and the new Dell ultrasharp 4k webcam and opted for the latter.
Webcam arrived, unboxed and connected to the Phillips' monitor's USB hub - BUT - it wouldn't run at 4K. Why? Because the monitor only supports USB 2 and the Dell webcam needs the bandwidth of USB 3 to run at 4k. In subsequent research, I also found out that the GB Ethernet would also be downgraded in speeds due to the USB 2 connectivity. My bandwidth at home isn't high enough for this to be a problem, however.
OK, now I was stuck. Did this mean I needed to connect to my Surface Book 2:

USB C for Video and USB 2 (inc. a downgraded USB 3 2TB drive)
Surface Adaptor for Power
USB A connector for the USB 3 4k webcam

This defeated the purpose of going USB C hub and left me with more cables into my laptop than my old setup. My only choice (other than returning the monitor - which in the long run wouldn't have solved the issues) was the dig out the Surface Dock 1.
Now, the Dock 1 provides the power to the SB2 and also USB 3 connectivity. So 4k webcam works in 4k, USB 3 2TB disk shifts data back and forth much quicker, and for what it's worth, the GB Ethernet runs as GB speeds.
The Phillips monitor, via USB C, serves the video and the USB 2 devices, e.g. Plantronics headset & mouse/keyboard (handy for the KVM features which I've not tried yet) and provides charging power to an old Lineage-rebuilt Samsung 12" tablet.
I didn't achieve my goal of having the monitor serve all devices, with as few leads as possible. However, the screen is running at the desired resolution and looking very nice indeed. I definitely have no complaints regarding image quality. I use Fancy Zones from Power Toys for window snapping. The main issue here is sharing a full desktop via Teams means the recipients get a mammoth 5120 x 1440 window projected at them which is super tiny (and quite funny too).
So what could I have done differently? The LG, with its USB C connectivity, would have suffered the same USB 2 vs USB 3 speed constraint over a USB C port. I could have gone with the Samsung options and bought a new Surface Dock 2, but this would have been extra costs for marginal improvements, e.g. one cable coming out of the laptop.
Indeed, I could still invest in a Dock 2 so I don't have two cables coming out the laptop. But £200 seems excessive for this 'luxury'.
I also can't seem to get HDR recognised in Windows 10 despite enabling it on the monitor. On the whole, I’m happy with my decision. I’ve got over the stress of the weird noise, USB 2 limits and the fact I have to plug two cables into the SB2 when I dock it. First world problems and all that…
I loaded up Ori today and it looks and runs really great, so perhaps I’ll dabble with a bit of gaming – although Destiny 2 might be out of the question.

Hey, wondering if it’s possible to pair these headphone to two devices to be used at the same time. I have a personal iPhone and a work Samsung. I’d like to pair both devices and listen to media from the iPhone and be able to receive calls from either device. I have an old plantronics m70 one ear headset which I can, but for some reason when I pair the q30 to my iPhone I cannot connect to it on the Samsung and vice versa. I did find something online with directions which are crossed out and don’t seem to work.

Hello All,
I have been pretty happy with the headphones overall, especially the auto pause feature when you take them off but I have so far been only able to get the headphones to connect to one call successfully over the past two weeks of daily use. When a call comes in on my Pixel 5 and I answer it, it should run audio and microphone automatically over the headset but instead forces the call over the built in mic and speaker. I'm unable to then manually switch it as it wants to go back to the Pixel 5 mic and speaker. Below is a video of what is happening. I had Skullcandy, Plantronics, and Bose headphones take calls just fine. I'm thinking its some setting in the app that would correct it. Looking to see if anyone else had the same issue.

The Plantronics (now Poly) and Sennheiser headsets which compete with the Jabra Engage 75 have buttons on the base which let you choose which source to connect (deskphone, PC, mobile).
In most cases these devices are smart enough to connect to the right device, but not always, so it is nice to have this possibility, to manually override the automatic selection when the device gets it wrong (which does happen).
Does the Jabra Engage 75 have this function, too?
I have looked in the online manual but couldn't find any mention of this.

Eg with the Plantronics 710 I had in a previous office, if it is connected to the PC and I am on a zoom call, then the mobile rings or plays some kind of notification, the Plantronics would automatically switch to mobile, but I can press a button on the base to switch it back to PC.

Does the Engage 75 have the same functionality?

PS I have been getting imprecise, if not outright incorrect, information from Jabra's technical support when I emailed them in the past, so I'd much rather hear real-life feedback from actual users.
