Remember, it's rated at 360w. Push it close to that, and you'll see a dip in efficiency and runtime. Aim for 200w or less for optimal performance. This isn't the gadget for heavy-duty appliances like a fridge or microwave. However, a regular laptop might last a few hours. More powerful desktops, particularly gaming rigs or workstations, will probably only get enough juice for a graceful shutdown. A smaller setup might last 15 minutes or more. I have a Poly VFocus 2 with the charging base and USB dongle, about a year old. Upgraded from the Original Plantronics VFocus that I had for literally 4 years with ZERO issues. Only upgraded as it was beginning to ahow it's age, but I still have it and it still works perfectly(pads worn to nothing at this point, ha) submitted by StressFart to poly [link] [comments] I've been having some serious & sporadic issues with charging, it will either charge very slowly or not at all then will suddenly charge just fine. It's gotten worse over the last few weeks. It doesn't matter if I charge with the dock or usb cable or if it's on or off. Have reset the sensors and device several times. Leave it charging overnight and sometimes it will only get to 20%. It's also quite behind on Firmware so trying to get it updated hoping it'll help, it refuses to update through both the Poly mobile or desktop app, no matter how charged the headset or my phone is, it just sits there. Reinstalled the desktop and mobile apps multiple times. Tried from a different phone and a different computer, different cable. The USB dongle updated perfectly fine, but the headset literally does nothing. Even tried the older Plantronics desktop app since I still have the exe, it sees it but it does nothing. Poly support hasn't given me any new tricks, I've asked repeatedly for them to send the firmware because on the desktop app(maybe I'm thinking of the Plantronics Hub) it gives me an option to upload firmware manually. Just hoping if anybody has dealt with this and/or knows some new or advanced tricks I can try. Thank you in advance for your time. |

Has anyone else gotten their hands on the new PSB M4U8 Mkii? My pair arrived a couple weeks ago and have been used extensively so I thought I would talk about them a little. Just some basic info that will hopefully help someone out. submitted by westcoastweenie to headphones [link] [comments] https://preview.redd.it/eafqtncasf981.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c5a13d80dc3c7bf9137355940431fff8c830920 Build: The build is probably the same as the MK-i, faux leather on pads and headband, plastic cups and swivel, chromed aluminum adjustment slide and folding hinge assembly. There isn't anything poor to speak of, but at the same time, nothing that makes you go wow. At the least id say they are certainly more inspiring than something like the 1000xm4s. Comfort: Very comfortable with plush and deep-ish oval pads. The driver is mounted at around a 15-deg angle so the available space is deeper towards the back of your ears where its needed. The headband is well padded where its needed (on the inside) and I personally feel no issue with pressure points, heat or excess clamping during multi hour sessions, but I'm pretty un-fussy as far as comfort. An important side note, the headphone arms fold in on each other to pack well which is nice, but they traded the folding for a lack of ear cup swiveling. This means every time they end up around my neck I feel the need to throw up from the pressure of the ear pads on my throat. Battery: **Though not advertised or in the manual, they still use NIMH AAA batteries. This is AMAZING imo.** Battery life hits the 25 hour mark as promised but I find that irrelevant for the reason above. If I know I'm going to be in a situation where I wont be charging them, I just pack spare batteries, if its going to be very, very cold, lithium AAAs. I have comfort in knowing the batteries are forever replaceable, finally stopping the need for bi-yearly BT headphone replacement due to worn out and irreplaceable lithium pouch cell batteries. SOUND: Very few complaints with regards to sound from me here. I have some limited experience with nice headphones (I own focal elegias and hd650s. I've spent time with hd800s, a few grados, focal utopias, Audeze lcd-2s) As far as a general sound profile I think they follow the Harman curve pretty closley. The bass is slightly forward but by no means offensively so. Bass is tight and well textured with essentially no midrange bleed as far as I can tell. The bass probably what took me by surprise the most at first. Very little bloat and great technicality, not quite as quick and punchy as my elegias but very close. I cant speak too well of the mids, but vocals sound present and natural, instruments are full bodied and well textured. Highs are almost great. These are definitely the most detailed BT headphones I've owned or heard (sonys, senns, plantronics backbeat pro 2). The main issue is a peak somewhere in the sibilance range that is either livable in the background or totally unpleasant depending on what's playing. Its a very fixable issue.. if there was a damn eq (ill get to that later). The imaging is as good as I've heard from closed headphones personally, I suspect this is their whole "room feel technology" thing doing its work. Instruments are well placed and the image has pretty darn good depth, certainly better than my hd650s or elegias have. They really didn't feel closed in to me at all, but maybe I've just never heard a super open and airy headphone properly (HD800s were tested in a noisy crappy environment with a not great amp and an old ipod classic). ANC: Really good.. I think. Its been a good while since I've heard any of the heavy hitters like the Sonys, so I simply don't remember the specifics of how well they cut out everything around you. For what its worth, I can go sit at the property line of my local petroleum refinery and hear nothing with music playing at what id consider a pretty quiet level. It can be a bit deceptive as these use adaptive ANC so the amount of noise reduction keeps changing to suit the environment. When in a quiet room, the ANC feels pretty pathetic and left me disappointed when I first got them, until I understood what they were doing. FEATURES/APP: ADIODO hearing test eq: It made everything a treble heavy disaster to my ears, tried probably 10 times, same result without lying on the test. I've heard audiodo fixes their profiling with feedback so this may improve over time. Sound pass though feature: Stupid. It drops the music level wayyyy down. I want to be able to hear surroundings AND music. If I wanted no music I would just take them off. Probably fixable with a firmware update if its a common complaint. APP: Terrible. No EQ, No ANC control, No pass though control, No button mapping, No nothing except a sleep timer, battery level, model number and audiodo features. Again, fixable with updates. VALUE: They are 500 cad, which sure isn't cheap, but with great sound/ANC, replaceable pads, replaceable batteries, a good overall build and issues that I hope to be software based teething issues, these are a pair of BT headphones I expect to keep me happy for 5 or 6 years without falling to pieces. That is something I cant say about many of the mainstream options around today. TLDR; PROS: -detailed, wonderful (for BT) sound. -comfy and built well -great anc -AAA batteries CONS: -Uncomfortable on neck -Terrible app, no control, no eq -Audiodo kinda sucks so far - Pass though cuts music so much id rather just take them off. Picture uploaded for reference - sorry, it's not as glamourous as some of the amazing setups I see on this sub. One of the reasons for this post and its length is that I tried researching a lot of this prior to my purchase. I found several posts saying that 5120 x 1440 would work on a Surface Book 2, but struggled to find anything comprehensive. As you'll see, I still missed some fundamentals, which I wish I'd known beforehand but have managed to get around since. Let's begin… A while back, I wanted to upgrade my home working setup. I trawled various articles, read reviews and filled/emptied/re-filled various shopping carts over the last 6 months. Finally, a few weeks ago, I bit the bullet the other week. This is how I came to my decision, and some of the lessons I learnt. My original setup was:
I used the two monitors and SB2 screen to create three desktops. I work in IT and use the setup for productivity, e.g. Word, Excel, Visio, Browsers, etc. I rarely game on this setup. My main requirements were more screen real estate and also to remove the volume of power and video cables (3 power: 2 x monitor + 1 x Surface Dock, and 2 x mini-DP HDMI), although screen real estate (with no bevel break) was my main goal. After various discussions with friends over whether 49" ultrawide (5120 x 1440) was 'too' wide and perhaps a 3840 x 1440 or 3240 x 1600/2160 on 38" might be better for screen management, I went for ultrawide - this is mainly because I am used to panning my eyes left and right over the screens. The models I considered and why I did/didn't opt for them were:
Amazingly, when Windows 10 booted up, it selected the 5120 x 1440 resolution automatically. This was my main concern out of the way immediately. I tweaked the settings and found I could run the screen at 70Hz - although the manual recommends 60Hz (not sure why?). It must be noted that I am running the none-OEM drivers, which I replaced with the Intel Command Center drivers on their website - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html. Whether this would have worked otherwise, I'm not sure. It will be interesting to see how Windows 11 handles it. Updates to these drivers via Intel have caused no issues (thus far). I was quite bemused to find that Phillips provided a CD with the drivers and manual on…!?! They might of well included them on 5.25 floppy disk. I downloaded the driver .inf file from the Phillips site to set the monitor correctly in Device Manager, then installed the Phillips 'Smart Control' software. This installs to the root of c:\ , e.g. instead of Program Files, so I'm not sure what decade the software people at Phillips are living in. Everything was looking good with the setup, then I found my first issue. There was a slight, but noticeable hiss/whine coming from the monitor in a quiet room. On closer inspection, it was coming from the back of the monitor where the vent is. I left it for a few days wondering if the monitor needed to 'bed in', but it wasn't going away. My first guess was correct - it was the power supply from the monitor to the SB2 laptop via USB C. It seemed as though the laptop was drawing the max power it could from the monitor and pushing the limits of the circuitry (I'm no electrical engineer, so this could be rubbish). I confirmed the theory by connecting the Surface Book power supply, which uses the Surface Adaptor. When I connected this, the hiss/whine stopped. The sound probably wouldn't bother most people, but the slightest noise distracts me when I'm working, so I had no choice but to connect the power supply and the USB connection. This meant two connections into the laptop, which wasn't ideal, but at least the noise stopped. To confirm, when I say noise, it was a very faint sound, not something that sounded faulty, but something that I fairly quickly associated with a power hum/buzz. My second issue was that the USB hub capability of the monitor was at USB 2 speeds. I have a 2TB USB 3 drive hooked up for archiving big files on to, so this meant I either needed to plug the drive into the USB 3 port on the SB2, or operate it at USB 2 speeds. I rarely shift large files back and forth, so I could handle the USB 2 speeds for the occasional use. I found that I could force the monitor to utilise USB 3 speeds, but when I selected this, it downgraded the monitor to 5120 x 1440 at 30Hz. This was a far worse compromise than the USB 2 speeds, so back the option went. Not to be dissuaded, I carried on and had a crack with the webcam. The reviews I'd read said it wasn't high quality, but 'how bad could it be', I thought. The answer: pretty bad. The thing seems to work in ISO 50000 leaving a very grainy image and nowhere near the quality of my 4yr old Logitech 720 webcam. The Phillips' monitor's webcam did support Windows Hello, which was nice, but the poor quality meant my mind was made up with investing in a new model. I looked at the Brio and the new Dell ultrasharp 4k webcam and opted for the latter. Webcam arrived, unboxed and connected to the Phillips' monitor's USB hub - BUT - it wouldn't run at 4K. Why? Because the monitor only supports USB 2 and the Dell webcam needs the bandwidth of USB 3 to run at 4k. In subsequent research, I also found out that the GB Ethernet would also be downgraded in speeds due to the USB 2 connectivity. My bandwidth at home isn't high enough for this to be a problem, however. OK, now I was stuck. Did this mean I needed to connect to my Surface Book 2:
Now, the Dock 1 provides the power to the SB2 and also USB 3 connectivity. So 4k webcam works in 4k, USB 3 2TB disk shifts data back and forth much quicker, and for what it's worth, the GB Ethernet runs as GB speeds. The Phillips monitor, via USB C, serves the video and the USB 2 devices, e.g. Plantronics headset & mouse/keyboard (handy for the KVM features which I've not tried yet) and provides charging power to an old Lineage-rebuilt Samsung 12" tablet. I didn't achieve my goal of having the monitor serve all devices, with as few leads as possible. However, the screen is running at the desired resolution and looking very nice indeed. I definitely have no complaints regarding image quality. I use Fancy Zones from Power Toys for window snapping. The main issue here is sharing a full desktop via Teams means the recipients get a mammoth 5120 x 1440 window projected at them which is super tiny (and quite funny too). So what could I have done differently? The LG, with its USB C connectivity, would have suffered the same USB 2 vs USB 3 speed constraint over a USB C port. I could have gone with the Samsung options and bought a new Surface Dock 2, but this would have been extra costs for marginal improvements, e.g. one cable coming out of the laptop. Indeed, I could still invest in a Dock 2 so I don't have two cables coming out the laptop. But £200 seems excessive for this 'luxury'. I also can't seem to get HDR recognised in Windows 10 despite enabling it on the monitor. I’ve got over the stress of the weird noise, USB 2 limits and the fact I have to plug two cables into the SB2 when I dock it. First world problems and all that… I loaded up Ori today and it looks and runs really great, so perhaps I’ll dabble with a bit of gaming – although Destiny 2 might be out of the question.
