If you see spaces between words..., this is a Reddit problem. I normally copy from an existing post and change some information for the new event.

Niantic's Anti-Cheat Behavior System is active
If you decided to break Niantic's Terms of Service, it's your fault for getting the strike (or ban). As a reminder, I am not responsible nor liable for the loss of your Niantic game account(s). If you are not aware of the risks, you can read the post on "All About Gameplay Fairness Policy and Anti-Cheat Behavior System 2024" https://www.reddit.com/PoGoAndroidSpoofing/comments/18wdv5o/all_about_gameplay_fairness_policy_and_anticheat/ to educate yourself.
If you want to lower your chances for a strike, you can read "How to Follow a Cooldown with the Anti-Cheat System in Mind" section.

Galaxy Store Discount Information:

Requirements:
  • Samsung Galaxy smartphone
  • Samsung Galaxy tablet
  • Device cannot be rooted
How to get the 10% coupon?
  • You use the Pokemon Go app downloaded from the Galaxy Store app. You buy the $5 Pokecoin package using your debit/credit card. Then, the coupon appears after you make your purchase.
  • If you pay with PayPal, you will not get the coupon because your device is rooted.
What about adding Samsung Checkout" (com.sec.android.app.billing) into Magisk Hide or DenyList?
  • I tried it and it still does not work on Samsung devices with a tripped Knox chip as the result of flashing root, custom recovery, and/or a custom rom. The Knox chip is in all flagship and most mid-range devices. When the Knox chip is intact, you can use Samsung Pay, Pass, and Wallet apps. When the Knox chip is tripped, you void your device's warranty and permanently lose access to those 3 apps. This is why Samsung asks you to use PayPal.
  • It could work on Samsung budget or low end devices without a Knox chip because I seen a few people mentioned this in the other subreddit, but they don't respond back to my chat or direct message requests.

Where is the free Community Day key?

No Root 3rd Party Modified Pokemon Go apps:
PGSharp
  • They rarely give out a free paid key to do the event. If they do, it usually results in Pgsharp server problems and can cause the Pokemon feed to stop working.
  • You get the paid key from in the pinned message section of their Telegram channel. (You get their Telegram link from going to Pgsharp's website because Reddit has banned Telegram links.)
iPogo (no root 3rd party app and rooted app),
  • They may provide a free paid key to do the event.
  • You get the paid key from the #announcement channel in their Discord group.
3rd Party Apps that required a rooted device:
PGTools' PaC (Pokemon Auto Catcher) & PaG (Pokemon Auto Grunt) bot
  • https://www.reddit.com/PoGoAndroidSpoofing/comments/16wg7wi/rooted_method_7_pgtools_pac_auto_catcher_pag_auto/
  • They have provided free premium access to PAC (auto catcher). You install the app, allow Superuser access, and select "Pokemon GO".
  • Sometimes their app will constantly crash the game. This is either a PGTools server problem or device/software compatibility problem.
  • It can work with Pgsharp but can also crash and make you restart your GPX route. They don't support Pgsharp, so it will be a hit or miss.
  • If you're concerned about the anti-cheat behavior system, I strongly recommend you increase the "delay time before catching next Pokemon (milliseconds)" to 5,000 or more. 1,000 milliseconds = 1 second. The default value catches way too fast. If you don't care, you can do whatever you want too.

Where to find weather boosted areas?
Pgsharp and iPogo may experience server problems!
A lot of non-cheaters do actually gamble and use these apps during an event to try to get the most XP, candies, Stardust, and/or eggs hatched possible during the event hours. These two apps made spoofing possible on all Android devices. Since it is very easy to setup, everyone is going to use them.
With Pgsharp, it is more common with them because they were the first to make a 3rd party modified app for Android. The free users have to wait in a line before they can join the server. Paid users can skip the line and join instantly.
  • If a lot of free users are trying to use Pgsharp, the wait time can be anywhere from a minute to a several hours. You have to try again at a different timezone. You could also buy a paid key.
  • If your load screen gets stops at 50%, you must try again later.
  • It is also possible for Pgsharp's server to crash. If this happens, no one, including paid users, can play the game. Your alternative app is to use iPogo.
With iPogo, I rarely see people complain about server downtime. They are currently beta testing their app, so it means all the features are free to use. Since they are best testing, this might not work on all Android devices. You may experience bugs and crashes. If you have a problem, you must report it to iPogo Discord group.

2024.05.18 05:15 Snooball4 GPS 67i Unable to Navigate Imported Routes Too Many Points

I am trying to import a gpx route from Alltrails or Gaia into Explore and sync to the 67i. When I got to navigate the route navigation stops because there are more than 50 points.
How can I import and navigate a route from Alltrails or Gaia? There has to be a better way. If you can do this what is your workflow? I also tried using Connect but that is imported as an invisible course. Nothing I do makes it visible in Explore.

2024.05.17 16:05 depressedbanitsa Lessons and questions after my first 60km bike ride

Mostly just sharing in case this can be helpful for any people just getting into long rides but I also have a few (some rather niche) questions I'm hoping I could get an answer to. These are my observations and questions after having done my first 60 km bike ride in years yesterday.
1 - 50 km (31 miles) seems to be the difference between a doable ride and one that takes you into reserves. I'm curious whether others' experience is similar. When I was a lot younger (late teens or early twenties, don't remember), I had one bike ride that was 80 k or so and I was okay, but now my legs feel like they were run over by a train. I have a sneaking suspicion yesterday had more climbing than that ride a decade ago. I have a 66km ride planned soon that's a lot flatter. Would it be safe to assume that that ride will be easier?
2 - I had my first gel yesterday. I'm not sure I really felt a major effect but oh my god the sugary taste (it was the BOOOM strawberry & kiwi gel). What is the most palatable gel? Also how do you keep your hands from getting sticky? Those packages are shabby a.f.
3 - The niche question. I hydrated and loaded plenty before and (I think) enough during the ride -- 1 bidon with water and 1 with Aquarius, the gel and several 'Grany' bars -- but I got a migraine today and I'm wondering if and how it could be related.
4 - I've recently started using a Garmin Edge 800 and while it's generally pretty great, I got lost in a small town and it rerouted me (majorly), and kept rerouting even when I was back on my initially planned route. My goal was really to get the 60k in and it kept rerouting to what I imagine was the shortest route to destination. I used a TCX file that I converted from GPX. Thoughts? I might add that this Edge 800 was a gift and I can't really afford to upgrade to a newer model.
5 - Aero bars on a flat-bar bike? Also, DIY aero bars? Any leads?
6 - I think I was a little too focused on the mileage to enjoy the scenery properly. Don't forget to look around and take in the sights.
7 - There was a lady walking four bulldogs, two of which were not on leashes. I'm already terrified of dogs and such events make me want to stay off of country roads. Nothing happened, obviously, but any experiences with domesticated dogs attacking?
8 - What is the answer to life, the universe and everything?
9 - Got cramps in both calves at different moments during the ride. Is that a sign of anything other than 'being over the hill' (in the Hunter S Thompson way)?
Keep ridin', y'all <3

2024.05.13 16:46 EkJourneys Seawall Trail - Nova Scotia

Seawall Trail - Nova Scotia
Hi everyone! Looking for more details on the Seawall trail in Nova Scotia. I am heading to the area in early July and looking for an "off-trail" adventure. The original plan was to complete a crossing of Cape Breton Highlands National Park until I found some info online about the newly proposed Seawall trail. Unfortunately the organization has declined to provide any GPX / routing information about the trail, citing legal issues with passing out information to hikers.
There are a few videos online of the trail, but I havent found any GPX files online yet. Does anyone have that information and is willing to share? Trip reports would also be amazing!
Alternatively, any suggestions on routes 50-150km in length within the Nova Scotia area? I completed the LRT and NT in Newfoundland last fall and have been itching to return East ever since. Such gorgeous landscapes that are often overlooked when compared to the popularity of the Western provinces. I'd prefer something as off-the-beaten-path as possible, but realize there are some limitations. I am a well-prepared for off trail navigation and hoping to improve on those skills before heading to northern Labrador next fall.
Thoughts?
Thanks everyone <3

May 18, 2024 Updates

  • People have stopped messaging me about getting scammed or reporting scammers.
  • Some people have tried to convince me to take this post down but have failed to do so because there's no way to combat the scammers other than providing the information for free.
  • If one country stopped working, you can still apply the same method to a different country that still has a cheap currency.

Important Information!

I am not responsible nor liable for the loss of your Niantic game account(s) or money if you do this currency exchange exploit to buy cheaper Poke Coins. Spending money on this game will not prevent a strike (or ban) as the result of breaking Niantic's Terms of Service.
Can you receive a strike (or ban) for doing this currency exchange exploit?
Everyone's answer is a "no", but I think Niantic's answer could be a "yes" because they are the one who wrote their Terms of Service. When you receive a strike message on your account, it does not tell you exactly what you did. You do not know if it came from doing this exploit, from spoofing or botting, harassing someone in Campfire, live streaming your cheating, abusing the Niantic Wayfarer program, submitting bad routes, uploading poor quality AR+ scans, and/or etc. Since I do not keep a daily record of your actions, I do not know where you're strike came from. The best way to avoid a strike is not break Niantic's Terms of Service.
"I don't see the violation listed in the Terms of Service."
The Terms of Service is usually vague (lacks details) to prevent you from suing the company and winning in a US court system (other countries will be different). You have an interpretation, Niantic has their own interpretation. You will have to battle against their million dollar lawyers to see if your interpretation is correct and not at fault. Since I am not a lawyer, I will not decide for you.
"You're ruining the currency!"
If you can buy 3x 14,500 coins for about $90 USD. This is a deal. Who wouldn't go out of their way to get an extra 29,000 coins with their $100 or would you rather pay $100 for 1x 14,500 coins?
"It's your fault for Niantic blocking a method!"
It's really the fault of the cheap poke coin sellers or scammers who gave hints on how to do it. Once someone has figured it out and shared it with another person, it is no longer a secret because people love to brag about it. Someone was bound to fuck up and leaked the whole process. All the current working method have been made public.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!!

1 - I do not own an iOS device like an iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer and therefore cannot help you with any problems related to these devices.
2 - Some methods will require a VPN, which will require money to use their service. If you plan to use a free VPN, they can steal or sell your data.
3 - If a method requires a Samsung Galaxy device, your Samsung device must have a locked bootloader, which cannot be rooted or cannot have custom software (for example: custom recovery like TWRP or custom rom like LineageOS, PixelROM, ASOP, etc). You must use the original Samsung's OneUI rom.
4 - The instructions below may not be clear, since I copied them from people messaging me and from a Discord group (https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6). I added some touch-ups to the methods. The chart picture comes from the Discord group.
5 - Be prepare to waste time and money if something does not work or you don't get your new device on time to do a method.

iOS Methods

You can discuss iOS Poke Coin methods, but you are not allowed to discuss iOS spoofing methods because this is an Android only spoofing subreddit.
Method #1 by someone...
Requirements:
  • iPhone or iPad
  • Apple AppStore gift card (India version)
Instructions:
  1. Set your Apple ID to India.
  2. Go to Amazon.in (India version) and buy the Apple AppStore gift card for whatever amount you want, purchase it with Indian currency.
  3. Sign into Pokemon Go with the country set to India, and buy your Poke Coins

  • Buy the 14,500 coin pack, it's about $34.75 USD.
Method #2 by CallMeCloudyXD
X country means any country with a cheap currency.
Requirements:
  • iPhone or iPad
Instructions:
  1. First you go to google and search “make new apple ID”.
  2. Create a new apple ID with the region being X country, and use a random matching country 's address for the billing address.
  3. For payment method, check “none” for the time being.
  4. After you’ve made the account, you go to the app store, click your profile at the top right, scroll down and click sign out.
  5. Sign into your new account and add itunes card then you sign into pogo and it should change the prices.
Notes:
  • Normally the prices are more expensive because of the way apple has their sales but it’s still discounted.
  • Buy iTunes gift cards with the balance you want and then add it to your apple store funds. Cards must be for X country's Apple store. www.g2a.com and www.turgame.com are popular sites for buying.
  • jfkmas1 said: " I can confirm it still works in ios (no necessary to create a new AppleID, using an old one by changing the country and adding GS prepaid card) . after some days, it prompts you to re-confirm prepaid card data as Expiration date and CVV, but it works perfectly (no vpn needed)" in chat with me.

Android Methods

Method #1: Galaxy Store method - Brazil by phwa1
Requirements:
  1. Samsung Galaxy Device with a locked bootloader
  2. Paid VPN app
  3. PayPal account
Link: https://new.reddit.com/PoGoAndroidSpoofing/comments/1cjorgv/androidsamsung_coin_method/
  • $37 USD for 14,500 coins using Brazilian dollars.
Method #2: Galaxy Store method - Indonesia by https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6
Requirements:
  1. Must remove SIM card.
  2. Samsung Galaxy Device with a locked bootloader
  3. Indonesian phone number
  4. GoPay account
  5. VPN app
  6. PayPal account
  7. Xoom
Instructions:
Step 1: Get an Indonesian phone number using the "TextMe" app.
  • $5 for one week
  • $10 for one month
Step 2: Make a GoPay account using your Indonesian phone number; you will need to set up a PIN and add an email address as well.
  • You can download this on the Play Store.
  • GoPay has an English option under settings.
Step 3: Buy PayPal USD also known as "PYUSD".
  • This is a cryptocurrency used by PayPal to avoid conversion fees on international money transfers.
  • You can buy this using your credit/debit card or bank account.
Step 4: Download Xoom app.
  • This is a partner to Paypal which assists in sending international money transfers.
  • This will avoid the 4.99 transaction fee but will be charged a $0.40 cent conversion fee instead.
When you use Xoom:
  1. Click on ‘Send Money’
  2. Click ‘Indonesia’
  3. Click ‘Mobile Wallet’
  4. Click ‘GoPay’ and enter your Indonesian number
  5. Fill in the contact information
  6. On checkout select PYUSD.
Step 5: On your Samsung device, clear all of your storage data on the Galaxy store and Galaxy internet.
  • Remove your SIM and delete Pokemon Go.
  • Use a VPN to Indonesia - there is a free VPN called TunnelBear on the playstore.
Step 6: Go on Galaxy internet, type in "Pokemon Go Indonesia Galaxy Store" and download it.
Step 7: Sign into your Pokemon Go account and make your purchase, you will be prompted to add a payment method.
  • Select GoPay as your payment method, you will be taken over to GoPay to link your Galaxy Store to your GoPay account.
  • Then, you should be able to make a purchase using your GoPay account.
Notes:
  • PayPal USD (PYUSD) is very sensitive. I made an $11 purchase originally, and I tried to make another $22 purchase to buy the 14,500 pack, but PYUSD didn't show as an option.
  • The person said he called PayPal and they said: When using the crypto, you sometimes can't do it back-to-back and will have to wait a couple hours, up to 72 hours maximum. My advice would be to send $33 upfront to buy the 14,500 pack so you can avoid the wait time.
  • When you're buying the 14,500 pack, you will be spending $33 USD because PayPal takes $1.50 conversion fee. The person recommends sending a dollar extra just to be safe.
  • Overall price for first time purchase including cost of phone number is $38 for the one week phone number or $43 for the one month phone number. The person suggests doing this when you have enough money to buy large amounts of Poke Coins to avoid having to repurchase the phone number later on.
Method #3: Play Store - India by https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6
Requirements:
  1. Spoofing method to set Pokemon Go's location in India
  2. Paid VPN app
  3. PayPal account
Instructions

  9. Remove all Gmail accounts aside from your newest one that you added the payment method to.
  10. Download Pokemon Go - prices will still show in your country’s currency initially, but it changes to India currency whenever you click it.
Notes:
  • The account you use to create the family group doesn’t have to be new, but it can’t have changed its country location.
  • So if you don’t have any accounts that still have their original location, make a new one.
Method #4: Play Store - Indonesia by Anonymous user
Requirements:
  1. Google Family Group account
  2. Personal Gmail account
  3. Ability to create a new Gmail account
Step 1: Create a GOOGLE FAMILY GROUP with your personal Gmail account. This account will be the family manager.
Step 2: Using the Gmail app, create a new Gmail account for personal use.

Method #5: Niantic's Web Store - India by https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6

  1. Spoofing method to set Pokemon Go's location in India
  2. Paid VPN app
  3. PayPal account

  3. Press on the 15,500 pack and sign into your account.
  4. Buy the 15,500 pack on the website.
  5. Pay with PayPal to complete purchase!
Notes:
  • Make sure before you spoof, your account is logged out from all devices. (Adventure Sync fucks with currency after logging into webstore.
  • Spoof (they used iMyFone AnyTo) to Indonesia Use VPN (they use NordVPN) and incognito and open webstore
  • Click on product you want to buy then log in
  • Use Paypal
  • Only issue is it prevents you from purchasing after a few times and there is a "cooldown". (The person said he doesn't know how long this is but should be somewhere from 12-18 hours long (from his experience).
  • If you’re having trouble using this method try logging in with your Pokemon Trainer Club account.
  • To make this method work every time you have to buy the currency using another method just buy the 100 coin pack in your desired currency then the webstore will change guaranteed doing this method.

If you need help doing these methods, you are welcome to join this Discord group: https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6. It is opened to everyone. I am not affiliated with them so please follow their rules, so you do not get banned.
I bought some Poke Coins, but they do not appear?
Answer: You must authorize the payments with your card company or bank to allow these transactions to happen. Once you do this, you will have to make a second purchase then the Poke Coins will appear.
If you still have the problem, to authorize the transactions, you must do one of these actions:
  • Reply "Y" or "Yes" to a text message.
  • Click a link from an email from your card company or bank.
  • Respond to a secured message system in your card company's or bank's website.
  • Call the phone number on the back of your debit card or credit card and get in contact with the anti-fraud department.
You will need to make sure you have money to cover the international currency exchange fees. If it costs $35 USD for the 14,500 coins. You will an extra $2 USD to cover the fees. In total, you will need $37 USD. If you are from outside of the USA, your transaction fees could be a lot higher.
What does PayPal accept?
  • Answer: Debit card, Credit card, and Bank Account.
  • If you want to be a "confirmed PayPal user" you will need to use your bank account. They will deposit a small amount of money into your bank and then withdraw it to verify if your bank account is legit. Payment times are sped up when you're a confirmed PayPal user. This process can take a long time to set up.
What if PayPal is not available in my country?
  • Answer: Use a different method that does not require PayPal.
Which iPhone or iPad should I buy to do the iOS method?
  • Answer: I don't know because this is an Android only subreddit, so you will need to do your own research on this.

2024.05.07 22:29 jth74 Wireless Mouse Recomendations

I am looking for wireless mice that are around the £50 price range, and are smaller than the Logitech GPX. There seems to be more and more mice these days that fill this criteria. Can you guys give me some recommendations? Thank you

day all, I am a beginner programmer and have finished my first project. Now I want to export that project as an exe file so I can share it with friends/family to ask for feedback. Now the problem is that I am getting a decode error in my code ( I am using pytinstaller and have also tried auto py.) I have tried and looked up everything but can't get it done.

2024.05.04 22:04 BAU3R_ Viper V3 Pro VS. Logitech G Pro X Superlight V2

Viper V3 Pro VS. Logitech G Pro X Superlight V2
Throughout this review, I will refer to the Viper V3 Pro as the V3 and Logitech G Pro X Superlight V2 as the GPX. I mainly play Counter-Strike 2 (~8k hrs, ESEA MAIN XP, LAN XP), aim trainers (Kovaaks or Oblivity ~200hrs), and other games on the side. I also use a sleeve when gaming. I tried these mice on a variety of surfaces or mousepads.

Initial impressions:
The V3 feels smaller in the hand than the GPX. The grip width is smaller and the hump is further forward. The V3 skates are slightly quicker than the GPX skates, but not as quick as aftermarket skates. The clicks seem duller to me, not bad, just quieter. I think they also feel more tactile, but I’m not sure that is the right word for it. Furthermore, the side buttons seem a bit more defined. The scroll wheel steps are slightly more defined. The coating ( at least on the white model) is slightly more rubbery and as long as this coating doesn't wear weirdly, I think I prefer it. The V3’s comfort grooves are more pronounced on the clicks. There is less side-to-side button play on the V3, about the same pre and post-travel.
After the First Few Games:
I don't notice the mouse when gaming with it. I find it easier to have a relaxed claw grip than with the GPX. I think this is due to the hump being lower on the Viper V3 vs the GPX. This allows me to use less arch in my palm/fingers to achieve the same amount of grip on the mouse. In turn, I find I have slightly smoother tracking and slightly better consistently since my hand is relaxed more often.
After the first FFA DM session with the mouse in CS2, I think I found it easier to do most mouse movements with the V3 than the GPX. I think what I struggled with the most was my spray. Sometimes my spray was spot on and sometimes a little off. This is probably just unfamiliarity with the mouse. I think I find the clicks easier to tap (single bullet) vs the GPX. Again, I generally found tracking and flicking a hair smoother feeling. My hand was much more relaxed throughout the session too. I think it was some of my best first-bullet accuracy in a while as well... More testing on that later...
General Review:
The front of the GPX is wider than on the V3 where I grip the mouse on the sides (the front of the GPX flares out more where my fingers are placed on the side of the mouse). I think this contributes to the slight improvement in control with the V3. This is where I place my ring finger and after switching back to the GPX, this was very noticeable. I also noticed that I must have the right side of my hand lower on the mouse. Where my pinky knuckle is, I touch the hump of the GPX almost creating a "pressure point". Now this isn't a pressure point that hurts, just contact I notice now that I'm also using the V3 with a more centered and lower hump. My aim is much more stable with the GPX but micro adjustments seem to suffer slightly as a result.
The battery life of the V3 on 8k hz has been nowhere near a mouse at 1k hz but I’ve been able to play for about 4 hours a day and use it generally on my PC with no real issue. I used about 50 to 60% (40-50% remaining) battery life in about 4 or 5 days with that amount of playtime. The GPX at 4khz used less power than probably only dropping about 30% battery life. Now, these are not exact numbers because the battery life on both at max polling is easily good enough to not be a problem.
I prefer a mouse with software that does not require an installation. The V3 requires Razer Synapse. Logitech has OnboradMemoryManager. It would be great to have online configuration solutions for both or at least portable versions such as OnboradMemoryManager.
With more time my aim continues to have more precision and is stabilizing with the V3. I think the GPX is more for someone with a larger and more relaxed grip. Granted you can get away with a more relaxed grip on the V3 if you have a smaller hand. The V3 seems to have a higher microadjust ceiling and for me offers better tracking thanks to the less tense grip.
The V3 technically has the better hardware across the board; however, it is not a big enough difference to matter if the shape is not good for you. Considering the shape does work for me, I think the V3 is definitely the better mouse between the two.
I would love to hear some feedback on this review and answer any questions people might have!
Note:
I'm not sure why the specification tables are broken. If anyone has ideas let me know!
Also further details about the size and shape from a comment I left:
I got back and compared the mice further. It appears to me that the end of the clicks are a hair wider on the V3 than the GPX. However, considering that the V3 is thinner and longer, where I place my fingers the V3 ends up being thinner. This seems to contribute to the overall smaller feel to me. I edited my post to better reflect this observation!

2024.05.02 17:47 Constant_Buy5783 Looking for a specific mouse shape

I'm looking for a similar shaped mouse to the GPX superlight or some similar to the Ninjutso Sora v2 but longer in length.
I'm recently got the Ninjutso Sora v2 and It's an amazing mouse but It forces me to use aggressive claw when I use relaxed claw since the length of the mouse is too small for my hands.
And It needs to be below 50 grams if that's possible.
I would prefer if it's compatible with 4k but it's not needed.

(Edit: I just saw the shape for the wl beast x max and it looks pretty similar, can someone recommend this or not and why? Thanks)

Training

2023 was my best year of running by most measures: most mileage ever, fewest injuries ever, most PRS ever, etc... My last race of 2023 was the Columbus Marathon on October 15, in which I set my marathon PR of 3:01:03 (https://www.reddit.com/AdvancedRunning/comments/17dpgxm/bq_take_2/). I really wanted that sub-3, and I chased it hard, but it just wasn't happening. Still, I was happy with with my performance, and I was happy with my fitness. Unfortunately, my left knee started acting-up on an easy run the second week after the marathon, and it got progressively worse as I tried to start building mileage, so I had to cut back on running in late Novembeearly December of 2023.
After failing to go sub-3 in Fall 2023, my initial instinct was to roll into a Pfitz 18/70 plan and try again at a spring 2024 marathon, but the knee setback overlapped with what should have the start of the 18/70 in mid-December... so I just went into recovery mode with a possible half-marathon in the back of my mind.
Probably around the time I submitted an application for Chicago 2024 and got an almost immediate acceptance, I officially dropped any designs I might have had on a Spring 2024 marathon. I would focus on:
  1. Reaching and maintaining a baseline of 50mpw.
  2. Competing in the Cap City HM, a race I first ran last year after a mildly disappointing Spring 2023 marathon (https://www.reddit.com/AdvancedRunning/comments/133swgo/first_time_catching_the_ca). The results of the HM would inform my training for Chicago 2024.
So, with those goals in mind, here's what my average week has looked like for the last couple months or so:
Monday: Long run of 14 to 18 miles, typically a progression run (yes, Monday) Tuesday: Easy run (usually 10k) Wednesday: 10mi Tempo Run, typically steady-state Thursday: Easy Run (again, usually 10k) Friday: 12mi Workout (sometimes continuous tempo, sometimes intervals or Fartleks) Saturday: 4-6 miles recovery, trail run if possible.
The basic formula for my training was: Take a 12-week Strava/McMillan Half Marathon Plan and add volume.
I'm not sure that I necessarily had any key workouts that were revelations, but I did accidentally run through a tornado, and that was probably one of my all-time hardest training efforts (I ran as fast as I could back home). The song that was playing during the hairiest moments gives me flashbacks. I also ran a 9-miler 3 weeks ago as a tune-up for the HM. Fuzzy logic said my pace for an un-tapered 9-miler should be sustainable for a tapered half marathon. I ran that 9-miler at a 6:30 pace, so I thought 1:25 was within striking distance.

Pre-race

In typical fashion, I waited until the 11th hour to think about race-day. I'd been meaning to research using Garmin PacePro for months, but only started looking into it the day before the race. Consequently, I went to the race website to download the GPX file for the course, and was shocked to discover that the "official" course length was 13.37 miles >:( Then, I created a PacePro plan for a 1:24:55 finish on the Garmin Connect app and it spit out 6:22 splits >:( That's my 10k PR pace, and if 6:30 was a stretch, 6:22 was highly unlikely. But, if that's what it would take, I'd go for it.
The night before the race - I whipped-up some angel hair pasta with a sort of stewed tomato, garlic, balsamic vinegar and shredded chicken sauce + homemade arugula pesto. I had some shredded carrots, so they went into the pesto, too. I forgot how much oil goes into a pesto, but I only used a dollop on the pasta, so it was probably fine.
Race day morning - I had a banana, a couple mini-bagels with PB, and a glass of OJ with frozen grapes for breakfast. I drank a shot of espresso and 4 or 5 cups of coffee, went to the bathroom 3x, took two Immodium, downed a Maurten 320/Caf 100 about an hour before start, packed-up my gear, and got on the road with a 12oz Redbull (re: caffeine and races)
I hit traffic immediately when I got downtown (about 35 minutes before start), so I just parked in the first lot I could turn into and figured I'd use the 2-3 blocks to the race as a warm-up jog. Once I parked, I mixed and drank some beet powder, made some last minute edits to my gear check bag, and started off.
I nervously eyed the very long line for the port-a-potties near the "I" corrals as I passed, made my way to the main grounds, stood in line for the gear check, and got to the also-very-long-line for the port-a-potties near the main grounds and start line with about 15 minutes to spare. I really had to go (#1), and I considered ducking into an alley, but the line was moving fast enough that I thought I'd be fine. I got through with about 3-4 minutes until start, which would be ideal if it didn't mean being at the back of the corral. While I was walk/jogging to the start, I'd remembered that I should probably queue-up the course on my watch, which I did only to discover that I had apparently synced the course yesterday, but didn't re-sync my watch again after creating the PacePro plan in the app on my phone. So, I fumbled with creating a PacePro plan for the course en route to the start on my watch, but it seemed intuitive enough. The splits it generated looked more forgiving than I remembered, but I didn't think too hard about that.
I edged into my corral (which was overflowing past the barricades) and did some light zero-personal-space hopping around to stay loose and keep my legs from quivering with all the caffeine coursing through my bloodstream... but also took a GU Roctane. After the typical festivities and fanfare, I shuffled forward with everybody else who didn't plan appropriately or didn't care about being in the front of the 'A' corral, and squeezed through the gate.

Race

The first half mile was basically crab-walking and darting back and forth to get past people. I eventually got into enough of a clearing that I could just run, and I checked my pace, which was suspiciously fast, given the crowd still in front of me. I settled in momentarily and thought I could probably relax and let the pack naturally break-up... but then I got something like a 7:30 real-time pace and went back to zig-zagging. The first couple miles were less economical than would have been ideal, but I still managed to keep it close to 6:30.
When I finally and truly broke out, probably close to mile 3, I was keeping it steadily under 6:30 with minimal effort. I was also able to start digesting the info I was getting from PacePro on my Garmin, which is pretty minimal in a good way. I still need to go back and do more research on how to interpret the 4 or 5 things that were being displayed, but I recognized the metrics for my current pace, and how far behind my goal pace I currently was. Having a little more concentration to spare on the race strategy now that I wasn't so focused on not tripping over people, it struck me as odd that I was only 10 seconds behind my goal running around 6:30 for 3 miles when the PacePro plan I set up yesterday was calling for 6:22 splits (based on a 13.37mi course). It occurred to me that I had entered 1:25:55 as my goal instead of 1:24:55. Whoops.
It was easy enough to add a minute to however far behind my goal I was, math-wise, but making up a minute when I was already 3-4 miles into a half marathon didn't seem very likely. On some level, I probably gave up on the 1:25 by mile 4. Incidentally, I think it was also around mile 4 that I flirted with the "cold blood" sensation I've written about before that comes with extreme efforts (most notably in a mile race last summer https://www.reddit.com/AdvancedRunning/comments/14u9t5t/crushing_my_first_1mile_race/). I took this to mean that I was sailing too close to the wind a little too early if I was getting the sort of feedback I usually get in a mile race or 800s during a half marathon. It's not that I felt bad, I just didn't know what might happen if I kept running at that level for miles and miles.
Now that I was starting to have doubts about my original race plan, I was sorely tempted to check some of the other metrics on my watch... especially my heart rate, which is my usually my best guide to managing my effort. But, partly because I was afraid that pressing buttons on my watch was going to screw with the PacePro plan that was already screwed, and partly because I was curious what would happen if I kept it simple and just took it mile by mile with an eye on the "behind goal" number, I just left it on the PacePro screen. Eventually, I ignored the watch completely and went by feel.
This ultimately led to my developing a new race strategy, which I think I'm going to use in all future races. I'm not sure what to call it, but it's something like a one-step dichotomous key. Maybe somebody on here with more experience in rhetoric or logic has a better description. My previous strategy for races, to the extent I had one in my short time racing (4 years), involved analyzing and interpreting my experience on the fly and reacting in way that probably tended towards caution. So, for example: I'd be halfway through a 10k, see a guy in front of me, and think "that guy looks faster and fitter than me, so he probably knows more than I do. It probably wouldn't be wise to pass him". Or maybe "This sun feels pretty hot, my heart rate is firmly in threshold range, and I still have 10 miles to go, I should slow down a bit".
My new analysis/reaction goes something like this:
Analysis - "Hmmm... this guy is about my age, maybe younger, about my height, but probably weighs 15lbs less... and he looks like he's been a runner his entire life. In fact, his legs look like tightly-bound steel cables. Holy shit.
Reaction - "Outside influences aside; Am I running as hard as I fucking can?"
If the answer to the question "Am I running as hard as I fucking can" is "no". I speed up.
So, I'm presented with a dilemma, I ask AIRAHAIFC? (AIR-AHA-IFC), and the answer to that question resolves any more subtle nuance.
Another example: "This extended incline is slowing me down, there is no shade, and that headwind is blowing directly at me. AIR-AHA-IFC? No? Suck it up.
I played this game with every decision-point for the remainder of the race, and if I were to judge the result based solely on the number of people I passed, I'm calling it a win. I did slow down in the last few miles (though I had a modest kick), but I also most assuredly passed more people than passed me... and I can't say for sure that anybody passed me... I only grant that it's possible, though I missed it if they did.
I finished with the clock reading 1:28:xx, figured it took me at least 20-30 seconds to get from where I was in the corral to the timing mat at the start, and assumed I had at least a modest PR.

Post-race

This was only the second race my wife and daughters (and first with both daughters) were able to attend, and while we missed each other at the finish line, I did get to hang out with them in the Columbus Commons for the after-party. It was a beautiful day (if a little warm for a race), and we got to picnic in the lawn with the "free" drinks and food available. I also learned that getting on a carousel right after a max-effort race is a very bad idea. So, that was another learning experience.
My official chip time ended-up being 1:27:45, which was a 10-second PR over last year. While I was off my 'A' goal by a wide margin, when I finally looked at my heart rate data; I discovered that I was almost immediately in threshold territory (#caffeine) and stayed there for the entire race. So, more assurance that I left everything on the course, though I was pretty sure that was the case. Another fun metric in Garmin Connect: the "Stamina" chart had my "Stamina" and "Stamina Potential" tanking together in a perfect negative geometric curve until they both hit 1% about an hour into the race. Not sure how I ran another 27 minutes if that's the case, but I need to modify some settings in Garmin.
Made with a new race report generator created by herumph.

2024.04.28 12:27 StevePeopleLeave Stopping watch at aid stations

Apologies if this is a bit of a petty question but I'm running my first ultra next week and am trying to sort out everything that I can beforehand to ease my mind. So I planned on starting my watch at the start and stopping it at the finish without touching it for anything but navigation in between, but now I've noticed that some of my Strava buddies often have a 20-45 minute difference between moving and elapsed time for distances as short as 50-60k. Is it common to stop your watch at aid stations/bathroom breaks during races? I don't really see the point except for it looking better on Strava, or am I missing something? The pros I checked often have a 2-5 minute difference on 50-100k distances, which I assume could just be gpx file nonsense, or starting/ending the activity a bit early/late. How do you guys handle this? Thank you and have a great Sunday everyone!

2024.04.26 16:29 godotwaiter Garmin says I am in 2 places at once ...

I have recently upgraded my Garmin GPSMAP 64c to the Garmin GPSMAP 67.
I have noticed the following strange issue.
I monitor butterfly numbers for Cornwall Butterfly Conservation. I use the MARK button on the Garmin for marking the location of butterfly sightings. When I get home I export the waypoints gpx file and extract the data and submit it to the County Butterfly Recorder for Cornwall.
The extracted GPX file contains the waypoints in lat and lon format e.g. 50.926329, -4.51207
However, the Waypoint Manager on the Garmin shows the same waypoints using BNG format e.g. SS2355817109

But comparing the data for the same points given in the 2 different formats I have noticed that they do not refer to the same location.

I compared the data in these 2 formats by two methods: one was simply converting lat/lon to BNG (using the BGS Coordinate Converter), secondly by entering both formats onto a map (at Grid Reference Finder). In fact, it seems that the BNG point is approximately 8-9 meters North West of the lat lon format. I have checked all the data on my GPSMAP 67 and the same applies to all points.
Additionally, I checked my Garmin GPSMAP 64s and was surprised to see the same errors occuring there too.

It seems extraordinary to be getting 2 completely different sets of location data depending on the format used.
Here is one example: data from Waypoint Manager: SS2355817109, and corresponding data from GPX file for same waypoint: 50.926329, -4.51207.
In this example the BNG point is approximately 8 meters North East of the lat/lon.

I checked the Position Format setting on both Garmins at Setup/System/Position Format and they are the same, i.e.

Position Format : British Grid
Map Datum: Ord Srvy GB
Map Spheroid: Airy

So my question is: is this a bug with the Garmin(s) or have I not set up both devices correctly?

Many thanks for any help you can give.

2024.04.24 11:02 pakskefritten 30-50 miles gpx wanted starting from Park Slope

Sorry since prob. this is a duplicate...
Spending some days in Brooklyn with my road bike (Park Slope Area). Any suggestions for rides ranging 30-40 (or 50)miles (with GPX)?
Combination of safe biking and some exploring of the city would be best (place to stop/eat along the route=big plus).
Alternatively a group to join a ride as an out-of-towner that is fast but not blazing fast (i.e. average speed after 50 miles of around 18mph-which means youll be going 20mph at some points -not sure how much stopping there is in Brooklyn as this influences the average speed...)
Thanks!
