Looking for guidance! I had a professional makeup trial last month but both didn’t quite feel like myself and am not sure if I can afford it for my big day. I have been exploring the idea of doing my own makeup, but stopped wearing makeup during the pandemic and have been pretty out of practice! Photos go from indoor to outdoor to no makeup, and here are photos of my previous professional trial.
For those who don’t want to read a long post: - ISO waterproof/cry-proof mascara comparable to the Ilia Limitless Lash I currently love. I like a brush with a ridged comb running alone one edge - ISO waterproof/cry-proof liner comparably to Fenty’s Flyliner. Currently using that in brown and really love an eyeliner with a flexible felt marker-type tip - ISO brow products for naturally filling in gaps. My brows are tattooed and I did nothing to them in these photos, so please don’t judge their shape and symmetry at the moment! Was more focused on getting my base right :’) - Is my blush/contour okay? I’m using the Makeup Forever HD Skin Face Essentials Palette and am still trying to figure out best colors for my tone and how heavy to go. - ISO general tips and techniques for applying base (primer, blush, contour, foundation, etc!)
I have some skin sensitivities for which I am being treated similar to rosacea. I’m not particularly oily, but am in my mid thirties and am most concerned about dry patches and fine lines around my eyes. I’ve been working on improving my skincare with my dermatologist and an aesthetician at his clinic, and I know that + hydration will be the biggest help with the fine lines. Other than my brows (again, I didn’t touch those and would shape and very lightly fill in any gaps), please let me know if anything looks bad or off or seems like it won’t hold up for a full wedding day! I’d much rather have honest feedback and make changes than be unhappy with photos because my makeup was melting off or super faded!

Background on me, I never had acne in highschool. I never had acne in college. I just never had acne… flash forward to last year when I started using Ilia Skin tint.. and it clogged all of my pores.. At first my face was covered in little tiny bumps, so I went to a dermatologist who put me on tretinoin and I fell apart. I cried almost every day, I didn’t know how much my skin meant to me and my identity.. i didn’t know how acne could affect my mental health.. i canceled trips, I missed out on so many things.. I spent hours googling and listening to positive affirmation podcasts. I went to two different dermatologists. Both wanted me on Accutane. The second dermatologist gave me Azelaic acid and told me to stop using tretinoin… I didn’t actually listen to them, instead I listened to Reddit and multiple people who layered moisturizer, then tretinoin+ moisturizer, then a layer of azelaic acid+ moisturizer. My skin is back, but I still struggle with dysphoria. I keep these photos as a reminder. To everyone in this group, you are not alone in this. You are more than your acne, and this is fing hard. It steals from your self esteem. Whenever someone would look at me, I felt they were looking through me.
First photo is from September, the peak of my acne and depression. Last photo is this week, mascara and eyebrows only. It’s hard to believe..

I made this entrelac couch pocket with macramé yarn. I used various types and sizes of macramé yarn which made it a tiny bit wobbly. For the thicker yarn I made a square 0f 6 stitches and 6 rows and used the 6.5 Tulip crochet hook. For the thinner yarn I used the 6 sized hook. I used Katia macramé yarn, Durable Macramé, Bobbiny 3PLY and yarn from this etsy shop: MahinaMakramee. Size is 35 cm by 85 cm. The border around the pockets is 1 row standard crochet stitch (UK = DC, US = SC), which is decreased on the topborder of the pockets to tighten it a bit (2 DC + 1 decrease), plus an extra decrease row at the topborder . Plus 1 row of border all around: Half treble crochet (htr) - U.S. Half double crochet (hdc). * I edited the photo’s to get the colours more to real life.

Cannot believe I’m posting my face on Reddit!!!
After losing probably 15 cumulative hours of my life trying to figure this out with TikTok filters, can y’all help type me? Can’t figure out if I lean more spring or summer, and the chat gpt trick said I was an autumn which was my final straw in coming here lmao.
Floral dress photo I have super light makeup on (bit of Ilia blush, mascara). Included it since it’s brighter than most clothes I wear. Others are no makeup to best of my memory.
Also - my hair is a dirty blonde/light brown and the third photo (light blue dress) is way lighter /more highlighted than how I’ve been wearing it more recently. Have been slowly returning to something closer to my natural color which is most accurate in the final photo!

2024.02.25 20:15 marianleatherby Have you ever embroidered chunky yarn over a finer yarn background?

TL;DR: Can I do some simple, decorative embroidery with super-chunky yarn, over a background piece knit from worsted/DK, or will it inevitably result in weird puckering or something when it's blocked? Or is it potentially ok? I can't find any examples online of what I'm imagining (but it's one of those impossible keyword combos that's hard to search, or I don't know enough of the correct terms to narrow it down).
I'm still a novice knitter (and as such, tend to try and do projects where I won't mind if they look kinda slouchy or uneven). I'm trying to throw together a quick piece that I can complete in under a week, for a birthday. So I want something pretty low-effort (today is not the day I decide to tackle serious colorwork, brioche, or cabling!). I'm thinking a simple cowl/neckwarmer should do the trick. Maybe with some ribbing and/or other easy texture. But I still want to try and spruce it up a little, and not have it looking like just a plain, single-color tube!
My stash is also pretty limited - I have a bunch of nice yarns I've acquired that turn out to be too scratchy for this. I have one color of normal worsted-weight yarn that is soft enough. I also have a nice contrasting color that is soft--in super chunky weight.
What I'm picturing is a cowl knit with this blue Lana d'Oro and then on top of that, embroidering some simple little "x" stars or little "v" flechettes, or a lightning bolt, or something... in this chunky yellow-ish Flash.
I am having the hardest time googling examples of embroidery that isn't flowers, hearts, or baby animals! It's for a dude (not that guys can't wear flowers, but I don't want to presume if I don't know that's their style).
So also TLDR, if anybody has resources/inspo bookmarked for super simple embroidery stitches or motifs, that aren't overly feminine or childish-- gimme gimme! TIA
