So I’m playing Far Harbour for the first time and I get to the end of the story. I decide to Divide the Children of Atom. I talk to Dima and Avery about Dimas murder of Avery. I decide to keep it a secret.
But guess what? That doesn’t solve the quests. I can’t talk to Kasume to tell her to go home “until all this is done.” From what I’ve read I missed the part where you can convince her to “go home and pretend to be their daughter” even though she’s not a synth.
So I figure I’ll kill Dima, to make things right.
Nope. Hes essential. For no reason at this point.
Okay, I’ll cheat my charisma level high enough to convince him to turn himself in. And so he does.
I go to the trial, having done every quest for the harbormen. I expect to able to convince the people to spare Acadia. But when it comes to Doc Teddy, he says I’m a monster because Small Bertha and Tony and the Dregs went to the settlement I cleared out and haven’t been heard from since. That’s weird. I built that place up fine.
But wait. When I met Malcolm I took his caps to send the Dregs to be cannibalized by him. And then I blew his head into pieces and told Bertha, correctly, that it was safe. But apparently the game takes this decision to mean Bertha and Tony and the Dregs got eaten by the headless wonder.
So now half the Harbormen including the Mariner who should be your besty by now decides to exterminate Acadia despite Dima being dead and the SS wishing otherwise. And still, I can’t side with the Acadians. I shot Allen in Far Harbour when he called for the massacre, and he was essential then, and even when the attack starts I’m automatically made enemies of all Acadians and all named Harbormen are essential.
Who the fuck came up with this? I had 45 hours into my first FO4 playthrough since 2019 and this has killed my desire to continue. I’d rather play Kingdom Come or The Outer Worlds where most characters aren’t essential than waste my time exploring an interesting world only to get locked into a couple of very specific endings.

Excuse me, but why are there so few fanfics where Izuku has a mutant type quirk ? I mean most fanfics I've seen where he has a quirk just give him an emitter quirk or sometimes a transformation quirk that is related to a crossover. Not to mentiom they try to get so complicated and make the power so flexible for no reason.
So here's my totally genius idea : Big Chimp Midoriya Izuku.
That's right, he inherits Hisashi's chimpanzee mutant type quirk and goes apeshit (pun intended but not really at first but then I realized it's a pun so yeah.) Now this could be executed in different ways, it could be him being born with the mutation and growing up violent enough to put Katsuki to shame, or he could be quirkless until a certain point in the story where he then goes through an extremely painful and graphic transformation.
I'm talking teeth falling out forcefully and being replaced by a new set, full on panic attack, gums deforming to push forward, excess bodily hair, hormones going wild, instincts changing his mindset and things of that nature.
Mood swings, acting out of character, arguments breaking out between him and his mom because she's scared of the change that she can only watch, while he's just happy to finally have a quirk, even if in the end it'll make him more hated and discriminated against than if he just remained quirkless his entire life.
I don't hate Midoriya Izuku, I just have too many fanfictions I've written in docs about him having actually interesting quirks that aren't that flashy which instead leaves more place to focus on him as a human rather than him as a hero student or a fighter.
Tw: mention and description of gore
(Now obviously there's some mild gore but to not make this feel like a crack fic I feel like it should be to an extent. Like, rip someone's jaw off, gouge out eyes, mauling, wailing on somebody, grappling, ripping genitals, cannibalism? Yeah sure ! Somehow turning people into clouds of red mist, ripping people apart out of nowhere ?(valid if it's actually important to the story but otherwise nah), ehhhh.)
Tw: possible mention of sexual violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment and rape. (Now I'm really torn on the rape part, it's basically going the whole nine yards in an angst fic, which I hate when writers add sexual violence to the story just to make it more edgy when it's just shock value. It has to have a meaning, an actual reason. Also it's a chimp not a dolphin, something tells me dolphins just tend to do that freaky stuff way more.)

In the stormy northern seas lies the island of Amaria. Under the polar lights in cold forests live the descendants of the once great Varaki, who in turn followed the mammoth herds across the steppes for countless eons. These are the gods and spirits of this land. They live in every tree, every lake, every star, deep below the ocean and beyond the polar lights in four domains.
The underworld, a place of transition between life, death and rebirth. It was made after the creation of the material to help souls find their way back to life. The spirits of this domain all take the shape of dragons with red eyes and golden patterns.

• Räkimarak: Lord of the underworld and of all its riches. Every stone, flint and gems alike, belong to him. A great violet dragon with enormous antlers. He reviews the lives of all that died and guides them to the new lives they deserve. Father of all dragons of the underworld.
• Idaka: Wife of Räkimarak, goddess of love and beauty. She resides at the darkest place, where her light shines the brightest. A violet dragon with a frill and wings of red rose petals with golden patterns. She stands for all encompassing unconditional love and reunites loving souls in their next lives. Mother of all dragons of the underworld.
• Kimorak: Firstborn son of Räkimarak and Idaka, guide of souls who escorts the souls of the dead into the underworld. A great black dragon with golden horns. Every mortal he touches sees and feels their life in great detail from the point of view of those they affected. In the process, mortals always see something they need to see.
• Galorak: Lord of caves and their denizes, bats. A small black dragon with bat ears and a bat nose. Caves are entrances to the underworld and bats are its sacred animals. They are not to be harmed. But since they are also messengers of death, one must keep a safe distance. Don't disturb the bats or Galorak may convince his older brother to take you too soon.
• Letorak: Messenger of the underworld. A small black dragon with golden antlers. Whenever Kimorak takes a soul, they often have something to tell their loved ones. Something they didn't have the time or the courage to say in life. It is Letorak's task to convey these messages through dreams.
• Vhedurak: The white dragon who heals souls between death and rebirth, so they don't take wounds from one life to the next.
• Ohnarak: Craftsman of the underworld. A great yellow dragon who can make anything out of the riches of this realm.
• Vahirak: Builder of the underworld. A great brown dragon with antlers he can use to dig new caves or cover up old ones as needed.
• Voomarak and Vothorak: The great hunters keeping the underworld free of demons preying on scared souls. Two emerald dragon who can turn invisible. The younger brother Voomarak has golden horns and is also the patron of boys and unmarried men. The older brother Vothorak has great golden antlers and is also the patron of married men.
• Mokorak, Kaharak, Roporak and Sukorak: The four golden-headed red dragons guarding the entrances to the underworld. Mokorak has the ears and nose of a bat, Kaharak has four horns, Roporak great antlers and Sukorak the wings and head of a barn owl.
• Tathorak: The great beast, god of violence and bloodshed, the only dragon of this realm who is not a son of Räkimarak and Idaka. A huge gray dragon with three heads, three tails and three pairs of wings. The most powerful beast in the cosmos, but devoid of empathy or understanding. He is imprisoned at the second deepest, darkest point of the underworld, where he guards the only being living even deeper below, the Nameless One.

The boundaries. This is the realm of souls and spirits, dreams and nightmares, the skies and oceans and all waters deep and shallow. This domain has existed before time even began. It is endless and timeless.

• Kavijohka: The moon, a great silver dragon with glowing teal eyes. Sister of Räkimarak and goddess of wisdom, cunning and battle.
• Vellamun: The ocean, husband of Kavijohka, a great blue dragon with red eyes and golden patterns. God of the unknown and lord of all waters. Sometimes, he stretches his hands out to land, creating bogs and swamps.
• Lukilan: The morning star, son of Kavijohka and Vellamun. He is the lightbringer who gives people the power of sight. An azure dragon with emerald eyes and a golden morning star on every scale and a third eye on his forehead.
• Sojulan: The great traveller, son of Kavijohka and Vellamun, a black dragon with red eyes and the neck and wings of a black swan. He travels between the waters, land and air and protects all fellow travelers.
• Turikan: Lord of storms, thunder and lightning. The loudest and most unruly son of Kavijohka and Vellamun. A blue dragon with red eyes and a golden lightning pattern on his scales. His tail is like a hammer, hurling lightning bolts at the ground as he roars.
• Lumika: Goddess of magic, daughter of Kavijohka and Vellamun, a silver dragon with teals eyes and scales shimmering with polar lights. She continues in the footsteps of her mother.
• Ilunika: Goddess of grief, daughter of Kavijohka and Vellamun, a silver dragon with teal eyes and the neck and wings of a black swan. She travels to and from the world of the living and the dead to take the grief of letting go upon her. Whenever she crosses the boundary, she has to go through the ocean and that is where tears comes from. That is why they are salty.
• Avastaja: The great trickster. A shapeshifter, usually appearing with the attributes of a barn owl. Most often as an owl-headed human or a fox/dragon with the head and wings of an owl. The youngest child of Kavijohka and Vellamun who defies all boundaries, uses the powers of all his/her siblings (except for Ilunika, because Avastaja has standards) to protect the jesters and jokers. But he/she is also a scolar and explorer, who uses Lukilan's light to find new ways to mess with people.
• Aiwana: Wife of Avastaja and goddess of memory. A shapeshifter, usually taking the same shape as her husband/wife Avastaja. She paints everything she sees into the skies and caves of Amaria and lives in every single one of the most sacred objects of all Amaria, the fairy memory stones. But Avastaja is rubbing off on her and sometimes, she plays tricks on you.
• The Ashirana: Goddesses of the arts, each of which has its own Ashiran patron. One for painters, wood carvers, musicians and for storytellers.

The world of the living. This is our material world.

• Kadath: The sun, greatest of all dragons with shining golden scales and golden eyes. God of justice who sees all... during the day that is. At night, his sister Kavijohka rules and she has a different idea of justice. Sometimes, she tries to turn the day to night, causing an eclipse. But in the end, Kadath always wins these confrontations. Especially when people light fires and cheer him on.
• Inari: Mother nature, goddess of life and all plants and animals. A great green dragon with wings and a frill made of flowers. She provides all food, but only as long as nature is in balance. Unlike her husband Kadath, Inaro does not care about justice, only balance. Those who anger her are punished mercilessly, no matter how long it takes, sometimes more than they deserve.
• Ilmania: Goddess of healing, firstborn daughter of Kadath and Inari. She was the first fairy, a tall woman with long pointy ears. Her descendant, although far shorter, are still endowed with her healing powers and compassion.
• Vrila: Protector of the home and hearth, patron of married women and the goddess of affectionate familiar love between equals. Secondborn daughter of Kadath and Inari. A woman, always accompanied by a cat and carrying a sling. The weapon of a lady, which requires skill and finesse instead of strong arms and can be more deadly than a bow in the right hands.
• Aria: Protector of girls and unmarried women, goddess of erotic love. A young woman with hair reaching to her ankles. She often reincarnates among mortals for fun. That is why the Amarians do not look down on women looking for fun. They might be dealing with a goddess in disguise.
• Mahaseta: The great white mammoth, goddess of the old world of Varaki. She and Inari together created dogs to protect humanity from dangers of the material and other worlds. All forest elephants and mammoths are her children and as such, sacred. But she was not born a goddess. Mahaseta was born a human. When Avastaja wanted to prove to the others that the material world and humanity are worth preserving, he appeared to Mahaseta in the most terrifying form and ordered her to sacrifice one of her own children to him. But Mahaseta refused. First she begged for the lives of all her children, then she offered her own life instead and when Avastaja refused, she spat in his face. No punishment could be worse than having to murder your own child. With these words, Mahaseta ascended to godhood.
• Retaro: Son of Mahaseta, who became a god by his mother's love. A great white tiger with blue eyes. Guardian of Amaria, lord of the forests and god of the hunt.
• Red Lady and Blue Knight: Also known as the Blue Lady and Red Knight. A pair of lovers who find each other in every new life they are born into. Living as mortals, they are the paragons of loyalty for all Amarians.

Evil. This is not actually a domain, but a state of mind. A very lonely one.

• The Nameless One: God of Evil, who goes by many false names. He lures mortals in with impossible promises to make them do his bidding. The Nameless One orders blood sacrifice and the killing of those who disobey him. He demands to worshiped and praised every day and is jealous of all those gods who receive praise without asking for it. Thus, the Nameless One also seeks to be the only one. No matter the cost to everyone else or even himself.

Context: I am currently working on a stone age fantasy novel and I'm sooo close to finishing it, but the last couple chapters are taking longer than expected. It's set on a forested island named Amaria\ at a time when people are making their first steps towards sedentary life and domestication** of plants and animals. Here is the pantheon I worked out for the Amarians.*

\Amaria is short for "Amara Aria", which translates to "Gift of the gods/spirits". Aria means gift and Amara is the plural of Amar. The term Amar can not be literally translated into English. It's an umbrella term for all sorts of nature spirits, gods as well as entities one might compare to angels or saints. So it refers to a person with transcendent characteristics and always carries positive connotations.*
\*Dogs have been domesticated by the ancestors of the Amarians for tens of thousands of years already and are central to their culture. It is believed that they have the same souls as humans, so eating a dog would be considered cannibalism. So far the only other note on domestication I have in the books is the pruning of hazelnut trees to get more nuts. That's something I will change in later drafts. Nightshades will be far more important to the civilization emerging on Amaria in the coming millennia.*

So, I just started playing Sons of the Forest recently and one thing that really struck me about the game is how involved and active the building system is, even compared to the first game. Placing down individual logs to build fences and walls, cutting out the doors and windows yourself, actually chopping your own firewood... really reminded me of those parts in Robinson Crusoe that are just about the more "mundane" things about survival. Unfortunately for me, I'm not really a big horror guy, but the game is very much focused on them. There's still plenty to enjoy and do for a few dozen hours, slowly building a very lovely looking base, exploring the island for new tools and materials, progressing the story and so on. I would still absolutely recommend it to people who aren't into horror and just wanna play without the cannibals (which the game thankfully offers very easily). However, it also got me wondering if there are any other games out there like that, where building a base isn't just quickly plopping down floors and walls because you've got 50 wood in your inventory. Closest games I could think of would be Medieval Dynasty and Project Zomboid. The buildings are unfortunately very paint by numbers in MD, so you can't really do your own thing like you do in the forest, but you do require multiple tools and can't carry a large amount of materials, need to upgrade the structure to keep out cold and stuff like that. And Project Zomboid leans very hard into the hardcore mostly-urban zombie survival, which isn't exactly what I'm looking for.
So, yes, please let me know if you know of anymore games where building is more active and involved. Doesn't have to be the exact same way as it is in SOTF, I'm just looking to put a little bucket list together to check out building systems that differ from the usual blueprint system in games like Rust, Ark etc.

My pitch for a future season
American Horror Story Frontier: period piece follows an 1800s pioneer colony across the west, incorporates more native American folklore, like skin walkers, wendigo, bigfoot sasquatch, maybe even WEREWOLVES. No overt connections to past seasons but maybe a small connection to Coven if it involved magic/voodoo/shamanism since spiritualism was big during that time. Maybe a character could be an ancestor to the Montgomery family or maybe a Mott relative. Historic references to the Donner party, Trail of Tears, the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War. Maybe we can even see a connection to the "Feral" wild cannibal people episode from horror stories. The Theme for this season would be Colonialism/Expansionism/Imperialism.

Hey y'all! (If any of my players see this, what are you even doing here? Get out!)
I had an idea. I have a profound love for horror and the unknown in dnd. My players are just now leaving the gem mine in Termalaine and are headed towards Lonelywood as they've heard the trading caravans have stopped coming back and no wood from the logging industry has made it to Termalaine (which they are tasked to investigate since they need wood to touch up the mine after the kobolds). I'd say we are far enough to include some kind of 1st "boss", and I'd love to have them face a weaker wendigo (they are level 3 bard, barb, wizard, and rogue).
My story goes something like this: Ravisin has been awakening beasts (they know this because they spoke to the awakened Plesiosaurus) and as an attempt to stop the horrible logging industry in Lonelywood. She awakened two moose, which subsequently gained intelligence. The moose are then charmed by Ravisin for about a month, and then lose the charm. They are maddened by being disturbed in the afterlife and to come back, just to starve and finding out all of their loved ones are dead. As revenge, they turn to cannibalism which in turn opens the door for a wendigo spirit.
The players arrive at Lonelywood a few days after the wendigo is born. The wendigo has strong psychic powers and is terrorizing the village with strong nightmares of cannibalism and committing atrocious deeds (such as murder with their bare hands). The players will start to experience the same kind of nightmares during their first night in Lonelywood (as they are targeted by the wendigo, seeing as they are a threat to it). They will have to endure this for a few nights, in addition to a strong scent of blood, until they eventually manage to track it to the elven shrine, where they have to fight it.
My problem here is: when should the players fight Ravisin? Is there a later part of the story where she could fit in or should I have the villagers come help after they bring down the wendigo to mob her? Is this a good idea overall? Can you think of any other scary elements to add to this, or a better story? I really wanna scare my players a bit with the psychic terror.

I Originally got the book for £3.50 but I searched it up and I’m getting prices between £29-£99.99.
I think the book is from 1920 as one of the sketches has 1920 written in it and the author’s note has March 6, 1920 written at the bottom. The binding is very worn down and the tape seems like the only thing holding it together. Every page has uneven brown staining. The book is signed by John Goldsmith x2 and R. Ottaway once. Inside the book it says price 6d and The Illustrated Guide To Norwich by Herbert Leeds. There are, what I assume are, advertisements in the back of the book. One of the sketches have been coloured in by someone who used to own the book, the ink has leaked onto the page opposite. The writing ‘as is £3.50’ is in pencil so can easily be erased.

This is really just a personal gripe and I understand if this isn't a problem with other people. That in mind, the reason why I find this to be such a big problem in the first place is because I love Jujutsu Kaisen's horror elements. I feel like it really gave it a unique sense of identity compared to other shonen, what with the Creepypasta-esque summaries of the early arcs and the disturbingly surreal curses. I think villains like Kenjaku and Mahito are wonderfully scary. But at the end of the day, all of this just makes Sukuna stand out because of how inoffensive he really is.
Now, when I say Sukuna isn't scary, I don't mean he isn't effective. If anything, Gege's made him a little too strong considering how much punishment he's put the heroes through. But again, being scary isn't the same thing as being effective. Truly scary villains usually are good at what they do, but simply putting the protagonist through the wringer in a fistfight doesn't make you legitimately frightening.

The Good

Sukuna works conceptually. He's essentially an evil monk strongly themed around cannibalism. His domain has huge gaping jaws, he can open mouths anywhere on his body, and his true form has a mouth on his stomach. Dismantle and cleave are themed around kitchen knives, and his fire technique is probably centered around cooking of some kind.
I also think the anime has done absolute wonders to increase his menace, whether that's by deliberately distorting his model in the Jogo fight or simply by having top-tier animation and music in his battle with Mahoraga. I think the decision to deliberately hide his eyes when he activates his Domain really works to make him seem like a monster.
There's also one scene in the manga which I think worked really well that I'm going to get to later.

Design

I will reiterate - I think Sukuna generally has a good design befitting of a main villain. But it isn't really a scary one. At the end of the day, Sukuna is just...kind of a hot dude. He's ripped as hell and has a rugged looking face. Okay, sure, it looks a little weird with the mask fragment and everything, but he's just otherwise hot.
Some villains can be scary because they're just utterly grotesque to look at. HeroAca has a lot of bad character designs, but none of Shigaraki's qualify. I love his pre-awakening look because of just how detailed and liney his face is. You get to see every wrinkle and scar on his face, and his eyebags combined with his stringy hair and propensity for disturbing smiles. It also works because Horikoshi's style of drawing faces is generally pretty simple and lacking really finie details, which just makes Shigaraki stand out more.
Or what about Big Mom? Unlike Sukuna, I can actually believe she straight-up eats people for fun. Her character has problems (the less we talk about Wano, the better), but her design? Again, not one of them. It's fucking horrifying. If you gave me the choice between being chased down by Sukuna or her (powerscaling aside), I'm taking Sukuna any day of the week.
Villains obviously don't have to be ugly to be scary. There's definitely an archetype involving a character who's eerily, supernaturally beautiful - Light Yagami, Douma, Johan Liebert, Griffith, a certian character from CSM. With these characters, the fear comes from the fact that their good looks and charm belie an utterly sociopathic mindset (on a side note, a lot of these characters tend to be villainous messianic figures who want to potentially change the world for the better for some reason).
Sukuna...is just a rugged looking hot dude. He is neither ugly enough to be frightening on a surface level nor pretty enough to invoke visual dissonance. I know that "Sukuna is Gege's OC" is a bit of a meme at this point, but it legitimately feels like he likes Sukuna too much to actually make him anything less than hot. He at least lets Mahito look as grotesque and freakish as possible in many panels (see chapter 82), but Sukuna never gets the same treatment.
There is one time in which we get to actually see how terrifying Sukuna could be, and it's the end of chapter 213 where he distorts his face into a giant maw and rips off Hana's arm. That's the kind of horrifying display I would expect from a supernatural cannibalistic serial killer. I would expect him to look appropriately freakish and horrifying. But that's...about it. It feels like Gege just isn't willing to break and deform his model because he doesn't want him to come across as ugly. And that's disappointing.

Personality

Not scary either. I'm just going to say it right here, Sukuna's personality is like slightly more aggressive Madara/Aizen. He's smug and domineering and likes to fight a lot. But neither of them are really scary antagonists, and neither is Sukuna (at least he actually gets to drop bodies though, it's downright hilarious that Madara failed to permanently kill a single named character for his entire presence in the story).
Sukuna doesn't come across as outright psychotically unhinged like, say, pre-awakening Shigaraki or Big Mom, or eerily calm like any of the "supernaturally beautiful" antagonists. He's just a cocky strong dude. He's violent, sure, but that's about it. If I met a dude with Sukuna's general attitude on the street, I'd find him annoying, not scary.
If it were me and I had to give Sukuna a more threatening personality, it'd be something like Hannibal Lectre or Judge Holden, or even Nolan-Bane: he's already in-canon an ancient sorcerer who's incredibly learned in jujutsu, so I think he'd be interesting if he came across as affable and cultured and even refined on the surface. But then when he starts going into his own personal philosophy, it's clear that he's an utterly sociopathic social darwinist. n fact, his seemingly erudite nature and apparent cheery disposition just makes his acts of horrific violence that much more shocking, and when he's well and truly enrageed, you get to see the absolute demon that's perpetually lurking beneath his persona.

Powers

Sukuna's powers make sense on a thematic level. He's a cannibal so he cuts things with chef's knives and cooks them with fire. Makes sense. Unfortunately, these aren't particularly scary either. At the end of t he day, his abilities can only really kill people and can't really do much else. They're not even good for, say, torture, or inflicting trauma.
I could turn to other series for examples of Lovecraftian superpowers that would be more befitting of Sukuna, but I don't need to, because Gege already gave other antagonist in the story actually horrifying abilities. Mahito's Idle Transfiguration speaks for itself. He's not just going to kill you, he's going to turn you into his tortured, disfigured slave and then hopefully you'll die as quickly as possible. The fact that the transfigured humans actively beg to be killed is just fucked up on every level. Then we have Kenjaku's domain, which looks like it crawled out of a manga by Junji Ito.
But Sukuna, the main antagonist of the story...just cuts things. Like, why doesn't his ability involve teeth of some kind? Why doesn't the character themed after cannibalism attack by biting more often? Why doesn't he create more mouths from his body, or form teeth out of his skin like a shark? Why is the main antagonist in a horror-themed manga's power relegated to cutting things (oh and Furnace too I guess). C'mon, give him something more!

Sukuna but actually scary

Just gonna rant about one of my favorite manga antagonists of all time that I think does Sukuna's shtick as "ancient hugely powerful sealed sorcerer themed after Buddhist demigods and a body part" much better: Kishin Asura from Soul Eater.
Designwise, he's tall and thin, but much stronger than his build would suggest. At a first glimpse he looks a little offputting, being covered in bandages with the eye-shaped markings on his face. Then when the bandages come off his mouth, it looks like they are his eyes, giving him a horrible, inhuman appearance, especially when his jaw is opening far wider than it should be able to and his teeth are huge and decayed (on a side note, a lot of the horror in Soul Eater works because Ohkubo is willing to distort his character models and bend their facial features in all sorts of bizarre ways). It's at least a little ironic that despite his motif being eyes, his mouth ends up being a lot scarier than Sukuna's, whose motif is mouths.
My favorite part of Asura's design though, requires a little explanation. Asura is essentially the embodiment of a specific kind of madness, in this case, the madness of fear. He was also created out of the fear of Death, who's the embodiment of the madness of order. That's why he covers himself in bandages, he's literally afraid of the outside world. And even though it isn't outright stated, I think it's logical that he's afraid of people looking at him and finding him ugly or terrifying. But when the bandages come completely off his face, he looks...fairly ordinary, even somewhat angelic. The genius of his design is that it reflects his personality and themeing beautifully. The bandages themselves are what makes his face terrifying. His ugliness results from his fear, not the other way around.
And speaking of his personality, I think he covers both ends of the spectrum I mentioned beautifully. When the bandages are covering his face, he actives like a raving, paranoid lunatic but when they're off, he becomes downright serene by comparison. It's difficult to tell which side is creepier. And his past as a fragment of Death explains why he is as unhinged as he is (see here for a detailed exploration of his character).
His powers are similarly disturbing and otherworldly. Just being around him inflict nightmarish hallucinations that are so terrifying that those subjected to them reflexively attempt suicide. That dagger he regurgitates is his weapon partner. Whereas meisters and weapons are supposed to fight in-sync with one another, Asura ate him, keeps him trapped inside his body, and uses him as nothing more than a simple tool. The bandages that he wears and attacks with are made of his own skin. His magic abilities aren't given any kind of in-universe explanation and reflect his eye motif as well. He communicates the idea of being an ancient, sealed sorcerer who barely has to lift a finger to fight better in every way.
I don't really have any closing thoughts. I don't mind Sukuna narratively, I just wish aesthetically he had more going for him. At the end of the day, he feels like a villain from older shonen transposed into a new-gen shonen.

After playing "Fallout 3" 10 years later I finally visited the famous Vault 108 aka The Gary Vault. While the creepy and surreal atmosphere was great I felt that it was very underutilized. I think that you could make a great quest-line that can feel like a psychological horror with this setup. I made up some characters and stuff but I think that it's a much better story then what we have:
"After a whole week of walking through the wasteland with a small caravan you finally get to Canterbury Commons. You go to Uncle Roe and ask him if there is anything to do around here. He tells you that a hunter called “Dusty” is missing and if he won’t come back, they will have to hire a new guy because the food reserves are getting scarce. You can go around town and ask what they know about him. Everybody tells you that he is a cool guy, likes to smoke a red pipe and has a cowboy hat on him all the time. First it’s nothing out of the ordinary. One of the commoners is a drunk woman in her mid 40s. When you ask her she reveals that Dusty is her boyfriend. She yells “F***ing a**hole, I knew he’d run away from me! F*** him, I hate his guts”. So yeah, here’s the answer – probably didn’t want to deal with his alcoholic girlfriend so he ran away to whatever other town there is… But if you have a high enough Speech Skill you can tell her to “Stop being a b*tch about this because a man is missing, a man that despite her addictions loved her”. She then stops in her tracks and tells you that “Well, maybe I went a bit overboard, listen… we had some ups and downs but he was a good man overall. I didn’t like his new pal, called Freddy. Hell, at least he made some money while selling him hallucinogenic mushrooms.”. You ask “what mushrooms?” and she tells you that on his hunting trips he knew a place where to find them, and Freddy – the local junkie just bought everything from him. So you ask around even more and find out who actually is this Freddy guy. Uncle Roe tells you that he was usually seen lying around somewhere high as a kite, and that he is not around right now but that’s normal – probably sleeping in a ditch or whatever. You ask him about the mushrooms and he tells you that Dusty once told him as a secret that he picks his mushrooms south of here in a small forest. There is a little radioactive puddle and the mushrooms grow around it a lot. After asking if Freddy knew about it, Uncle Roe tells you that… “Yeah, I told him, he bribed me so what was I supposed to do? 50 caps is a fortune for such small info. Also you better go at night because the mushrooms glow yellowish-green, and it’s better to see them that way.”.
You go to the small forest to the south of Canterbury Commons. You see the puddle and that someone just picked all the mushrooms there and left only the stalks. You don’t know why but you feel like you are being watched by someone. You hear some commotion behind the trees and a shadowy figure running away. You go to where you heard the noise and find some footsteps. They are leading you through the dark woods to a nearby rock formation. You see a familiar entrance made of wooden worn out doors. You go inside there and see a giant cave with heaps of trash lying all around. The smell is so putrid it feels like being inside a hot portable toilet. At the end of the cave you see metallic vault doors with a number “108”. When you open them, the smell gets even worse, you barely see anything because your eyes start to tear up. You walk a few steps through a metal corridor and see a glass window to the security booth. You use your sleeve to wipe the dirty window and look through it, searching for anything of use. To your utter astonishment you see a man there. He just stands there looking at a wall, like he was hypnotized. In a fracture of a second he turns his head around and starts walking towards you. You take a look at him. He’s a medium height guy, with a pale skin, dressed in the vault 108 uniform – no characteristic features. The guy looks you right in the eye with a dead stare, not moving, just looking. After ten very uncomfortable seconds the guy asks “Gary?” and runs away. What the hell? You didn’t know anyone called Gary, but maybe the guy got some hallucinations from the mushrooms or whatever. Maybe that was Freddie, he probably got a bad trip, thought that you were a Super Mutant and ran away to this place. You walk further the metal corridor and with every step the smell gets worse. Now it smells like a rotten egg drenched in urine. You enter a small room filled with crates and some bones. Feels typical for a vault, probably the remains of a random dweller. But when you look closely at the bones, they seem fresh. They maybe have closer to a week, not 20 years. You look to the right and behind a crate under another pile of bones you see a corpse. Wait a second… It’s the same guy from the window. He’s the same medium height guy, with pale skin wearing a vault 108 uniform but… dead? Maybe it’s his twin brother? But the resemblance! He really looks identical. Also he is not dead for a long time, the smell is not coming from him, it’s coming from further down the room, through another metal door. You go there and with every step you start hearing chewing noises. Rats? Dogs? Molerats? Better get my trusty 10mm pistol. When getting to another room, you see a guy kneeling in front a corpse. After a split second look at the dead guy, you see a cowboy hat, that’s probably the hunter Dusty, but what the hell is going on here? The kneeling guy gets startled and turns his head around like a rabid dog. His mouth and clothes covered in blood with a piece of flesh still hanging from his mouth. It’s the same guy from the window! He shouts at you “GARY!” and starts running like a maniac with a sharp kitchen knife in his hand. You swiftly point your gun at his head and shoot 3 times. Miss, Miss, Hit. The guy fell on the ground like a bag of bricks and mumbled “Gary…” with his dying breath. You stand there, looking at the gruesome scene speechless. A half eaten cowboy, a dead cannibal and you.
What in the f*ck was going on here?..."

Did you know that about 75,000 people go missing per year in Canada? I might’ve found another one to add to that tally, as someone by the name of Trinity Arthurs, a 20-year-old woman, disappeared seemingly without a trace on June 14th of last year, along with 19-year-old Marvin Arthurs, her brother. The question in everyone’s minds is why I’m telling you this.
It all started with a hike in the woods, on a trail, in Prince Albert National Park. I was enjoying the green, taking a deep breath from the fresh air of nature when I spotted something shining. When I looked at it, it became clearer that it was a Ziploc bag. I initially thought it was someone else tossing garbage on the forest floor, but when I picked it up, I realized something was in there. I looked closer at the bag and noticed there was a USB. I packed it into my bag and finished my hike. When I went home, I took the USB out of the Ziploc. I was very hesitant to plug it into my laptop, as I had only recently discovered it in some forest.
I plugged it in and took a deep breath, knowing of the risk of it. It didn’t affect the laptop in any way, but it did reveal only one file which says TRINITY E. ARTHUR’S ENTRIES. I clicked on it and it seems to be a bunch of Word documents, each noted as ENTRY. I couldn’t find anything else other than those files.
I decided to look up, only to find a single news article back then relating to Trinity’s case. I tried to send it to the police, but they thought of it as some sick fanfiction I wrote, so I am going to post it here, leaving it as is. To clarify, I did not write this. I hope this gains the attention of her case as it deserves.

Entry 1 - Sepember 24th, 2023
Hello there, my name is Tris and this might be the very first time I have typed something personal on this laptop, like ever, maybe since elementary school, where we would write how we would feel for the day. Not really the type to socialize and not the type to write a journal, let alone digital, either, because what’s the point of it? I guess I’m just spilling out my thoughts, especially after what I’ve seen, so might as well put this to good use.
For context, this is about my father, Micheal Arthurs. I remembered him, at least before all of this, to be this big, strong guy who just simply had a nice hobby. In that case, that hobby is all about caves. He would spend some of his work money on these trips with one of his work buddies to explore cave systems. The reason? Maybe because he was fascinated with them, god knows when, maybe since he was a child. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about me and my two younger brothers, Marvin and James, as well as our mother, Martha.
He cared for us like any dad would, he would take us camping, tell us about his adventures in the caves, and spoil us with gifts we didn’t need but appreciated anyway. From time to time, he would give us shit if one of us tried to burn the house down by putting paper in a toaster, thinking we would automatically make some kind of magical spell, which actually happened. Hell, my middle name Edward came from him, strange for a girl like me. He used to tell me that he accidentally thought I was a boy when I was born, so that stuck. His trips also, I guess, strained his relationship with Mom, who always complained about him going somewhere for a week, worried sick for him and leaving her to care for us.
That was, until a few years ago, on the morning of May 8th, 2018 - about less than five years ago, when I was fifteen. He said that he’d be back in a week because he was going to explore a cave somewhere in Ontario. The last time I remembered him was when he and Mom made pancakes, bacon, and hashbrowns, of which the pancakes were made for me, even though I could’ve had toast instead. We joked around the table and asked what he’d be doing at the cave. Of course, he would tell his usual, like going into new passages and finding any cave paintings, if any, in the caves themselves. I could imagine the cave paintings he might discover depicting mammoths and saber-tooth cats back then, with people hunting them. After that, we cleaned up and Dad was ready to go. He each gave us a big, warm hug and shared a quick but gentle kiss with Mom. He waved us goodbye before stepping into his big grey Ford truck, all packed up, and drove through the streets of Saskatoon.
We waited. Hours turned to days, and we knew when he’d return. Those days then turned to weeks and we began to think there was something wrong. Mom was first to notice, so she called the RCMP to file a missing persons report. What we didn’t know was it became a whole mystery in itself. At first, they contacted his coworker, who usually caves with him, only to find he was equally as confused as us. That coworker was asked by my Dad if he wanted to go caving with him, only for him to abandon that plan due to a medical emergency relating to his wife. They then put up alerts for him so that anyone would come forward for his whereabouts. Some said they saw him at a local Costco store, others said he was going north, baffling us in the process as he would not go north for Ontario. At that point, there were no leads for a while.
At that time, we were waiting for him to go home. I did some investigating myself, along with my oldest brother Marvin, to find out where our Dad at. We thought this might be some alternate route he took, or that he might be going to Prince Albert to meet family. James, our youngest, seems to care less about the fact Dad is missing and more about talking to his friends. Looking back at it now, I guess this was his method of coping with the situation. Mom was not doing well. She would constantly ask the police to simply find him, but understandably they just couldn't without any new evidence.
That was until a surveillance camera at some gas station store in Blaire Lake spotted Dad. At first, he got out of the truck and put the nozzle in to fuel up. Once his truck was fueled up, he went inside the near-empty store, saved for a few guys, grabbed a few beef jerky and Gatoraids, and went to the cashier to pay for them. After that, he went through the door and back to his truck, driving off. That blew our minds and the crazier thing was that his truck was found, abandoned at a campsite in Martins Lake. The truck was later towed for investigation and found no evidence that he was killed or kidnapped at the truck, meaning he went somewhere. A few more people said they saw him carrying his bags and went into the woods to the west, assuming he was going on a hike. Hearing that news, they searched the woods, looking for any signs he was there without any sort of luck. The search was called off and the trail ran cold.
During that time, I was exhausted and realised I felt like nothing without him. I was in a spiral, always mad at everyone and expecting everyone to find my Dad, but at the same time, I was also beginning to be one of those people. The same people I expect to find my Dad. I then felt defeated and helpless, without purpose, begging whatever god was up there to bring my Dad back, hoping he was not hurt, at least alive. I hoped he found his way out of the woods. I hoped he survived an animal attack. It was only as days went by that I realised this was taking over me, wasting my life and mentality, and that was when I decided he wasn’t coming back. I decided that he might be dead, somewhere in those woods. I hoped that someone would find his remains one day. I guess I did move on, without knowing what happened to him.
Marv, on the other hand, never really accepted. He continued to find him, even to this day. He would do other things, of course, but would argue with someone once our Dad’s name was heard, saying he might still be alive. He did get into a few fights because of this. He now accepts he is dead, but holds onto the belief we should still look for him, to relieve us. Mom was doing worse than the rest of us. She would blame herself for not being with him and usually buys drinks to forget about it. Eventually, she would put a lot of pressure on me and criticize everything I did, putting a lot of stress on me. It got to the point where we would go into screaming matches about the simplest of things, drawing me down to regret ever getting mad at her in the first place. It was so bad that my aunt had to take me out of there for my safety. That was nearly three years ago and I didn’t even hear a word from her. One side of me hoped that she would get arrested for drunk driving, and the other hoped she’d get help.
James seemed to be the one least affected by this, surrounded by friends we didn’t have. The last time I heard of my little brother after his high school graduation, he was beginning to do some cave stuff, like our father. Matter of fact, he began his own small club of cavers a few years before he left. I never really knew what went on in his mind, but I guess he felt just as fucked-up as the rest of us, just that he had enough distractions to easily get away from those thoughts.
As for me, I eventually moved into an apartment with Marv and got a job as a security guard at some mall, at the suggestion of my aunt’s friend, a few years ago. Working there has improved me, even though I worked nights. It has given me some purpose and gets my mind off of the things that happen during the day.
You might ask me, mind to mind, why I’m giving myself some sob story to talk about. This morning, I was riding my electrical tricycle from work to my apartment in the frigid air. I went in there and saw an odd package that was under Marv’s name, although without an address. The box seems to be a cereal box, sealed with package tape. The name that it’s sent to seems to be written in Sharpie in printed form. I thought it was odd that somehow this package made its way inside and at our mailing station. Thinking that it might be someone attempting to play an odd prank on my brother, I initially thought about leaving it alone. Curiosity got the cat, however, so I picked up the box and lightly shook it. I felt and heard what seemed to be something inside of it, like one big thing and a few smaller ones.
I then took it to my apartment, where I opened the door and entered, closed the door, removed my boots on the mat, and set the box on the somewhat clean kitchen counter. Looking at it, I was initially hesitant about opening it because it was under his name. I left it alone, he was home most of the time, on his computer doing a few things. Going into my room, I took off my uniform and changed my pants to a pair of boxers, turned on the TV to sit and relax on my bed. Looking through the streaming service, I tried to look for anything relating to volcanoes, one of those topics I was very interested in at the time, but the content was lacking. I went for a documentary and sat back, watching.
A few minutes in and I can hear knocking on the door. I was annoyed initially, knowing it was my brother. I opened and I could see confusion yet a look of needing to know on his messy, bearded face as he stood at eye level, staring at each other.
Marv: What’s the cereal box in the kitchen?
Me: The cereal box?
Marv: Yes, the cereal box.
Me: I just found it in the mailroom when I came in. No address, nothing other than your name, so I brought it up.
Marv: Do you know what’s inside?
Me: Your guess is as good as mine.
We looked at each other with an equally confused expression, sharing the same thoughts. The only difference is that I looked in the area beside him, empty of thought except for that little mind that reads why would someone send us this package? He was wide-eyed albeit stone-faced and standing still.
Marv: Well, I will be looking inside anyways.
We then went into the kitchen where he grabbed a knife and put it in the box.
Me: Hey, should we use the scissors?
Marv: Why? This is good enough. Not like I’m going to cut myself with it.
He then slowly cut the seams of which the packaging tape sealed, eventually cutting the tape. He then opened it to reveal a USB, an SD card, and a video recorder.
Me: That’s odd.
Marv: I don’t know who sent it, but I hope it is someone who got the wrong address, to the wrong person with my name.
Me: Should we look what's inside them?
Marv: Well, let’s find out.
We then went to his messy clothes-ridden room and he went to his PC to turn it on. There, I began to get concerned about the mysterious USB.
Me: I think we shouldn’t plug it in.
Marv: Why?
Me: Viruses, bugs, the whole deal? We don’t know wha-
Marv: Don’t worry, this PC has antivirus on here. Besides, if it did shut down, we could at least wipe out the memory.
We plugged in the USB, anticipating some sort of pop-up from an unknown digital virus. Instead, nothing happened, maybe other than the notification that a device was plugged in. Marv then sat down to look into the files and see what he could find on the PC, but it felt wrong like we were snooping around. In those files, we could see a folder that says CAVE GIANTS. He clicked on it and there was just a collection of pictures, of cave paintings. The setting all of them seemed to take place in was dark and wet, only the walls of which the cave paintings are on. The paintings themselves, which are in black, depict what seems to be somewhat stick-figure men, some holding arrows and spears, others just standing. Some of those men hunted the animals on the walls, like bison, deer, and mammoths in a group-like manner. The predators seem to be treated with a little more respect, like cougars, wolves, and bears. That was the first few pictures until we met with the first odd thing about those paintings.
The picture in question has every human on the wall holding spears and arrows. No animals were visible. In the next few pictures, we see men without spears or arrows, which said men were upscaled, massive. Long, black legs and arms attach to small bodies and small heads, of which all have un-painted orbs, depicting their eyes, which harrowed us as they stared at us through the screen. It seems some of those tall men have extra or lack of arms and legs. The saying can be said for the eyes, but most are in that somewhat humanoid body plan. The smaller men with the arrows and spears look to be battling the tall men, with some tall men holding the smaller men. In a few more pictures, below the battle scene, were red handprints, unlike those of the black they used. There are no more pictures from here, but we were stunned at whatever we stumbled upon.
Marv: What the fuck. What was that?
Me: I don’t know, maybe an archeologist's USB?
Marv then looked at the screen and saw a second file that said GIANT DOCUMENTARY.
Marv: Giant documentary? A documentary on, okay, what? Giants?
Me: That’s what seems to be like.
We clicked on the folder to see the one mp4 file with the same name. We clicked on it and it started its intro with one of those songs you’d play on a nature educational video. It was black, until it slowly faded into a scene of a forest, with the video panning across gradually and with nature sounds. There, a man with a gruff voice began to narrate.
Narrator: Ever wondered what happened here? You would assume that in a far distant time, this was a different place.
It then transitioned to a scene of a tundra, along with a slideshow of all the animals that existed during the Ice Age. It seems the documentary was made by someone using the Moviemaker application.
Narrator: A cold tundra during the Last Ice Age, of which large mammoths ruled the plains, thick-furred camels gathered in herds, and American lions roamed in their respective pride, along with the large grizzlies, the roaming caribou, and the wolves that hunt in their packs.
I then showed pictures of a tundra landscape, along with a few of the creatures mentioned.
Narrator: That was the scene until man, or Homo Sapiens came along at the end of the Ice Age, ten thousand years ago. The large glaciers that used to cover a third of North America began to melt, causing a whole dramatic series of climatic events. Man took that opportunity to hunt down the prehistoric life that existed. Eventually, those mammoths and camels became extinct, along with the American lion, who relied on them for food, along with a whole plethora of prehistoric beasts that once roamed North America. Eventually, all the ice melted and mankind settled, creating what we know as Native Americans, the Cree, Aztecs, Iroquois, and many more, telling and passing on stories as history marches on.
It then showed a slide show of historical pictures of the tribes themselves, along with depictions of a few of them taking down mammoths and going face to face with sabre tooth cats.
Narrator: I may sound reasonable, based on the evidence found by archeologists and paleontologists alike. Besides, it is only plausible that man is the only species that could drive these wonderful species to extinction. What if I told you all, watching this, that another species used to exist in North America alongside Homo sapiens?
A picture, presumably from the 1800’s or something, showed up, and later a slide show of a few news articles about them. I then began to recognize the voice, a voice all too familiar… my father’s voice. At this time, we were shocked, as this was not what I remembered him and probably not even Marv. We were more shocked at how he took this secret with him and had this under our noses. Despite that, we kept on watching.
Dad: Giants, creatures supposedly of myth and legend, larger yet primitive versions of man, have walked the Earth for many years. Most of that so-called evidence comes in the form of huge, perhaps human-like, bones discovered by farmers and amateur archeologists alike all across neighbouring America. They would claim they built the massive mounds, like the famous Serpent Mound, all across the Midwest.
The slideshow of various examples of these mounds, frame by frame, went by until it stopped at a map of the Midwest, showing where they were.
Dad: Of course, most of these skeletons would either be misidentifications of ancient animals or hoaxes. As for the mysterious mounds, they are now discovered to be built by the good ol’ Hopewell societies, the Mound Builders, who made them as burials and ritual sites. Since then, there has been no new ground evidence of their existence except for the mythologies and legends captivating our cultures. At least, until now.
It then changed to a video recording of Dad, who is sitting in a chair and began explaining it like an explorer that has seen it all.
Dad: One day, while I and John were looking for a cave at Wells Grey Park somewhere in British Columbia, sometime during July of 1994, I saw this tunnel in the snow, somewhere on a high hill at the foot of a glacier. We grabbed our gear, went up to the cave, and we just went in. It took us a few minutes underneath all of that snow before we saw this stream enter this system, melting the snow. We climbed our way down there and reached the floor. We thought we were the first humans to ever set foot in this cave.
Now, as far as I know, to the naked eye, the cave itself is pretty much invisible, especially during winter. Even if anyone did find it, it would require them hours to climb loose rock and steep valley walls. What we found in this cave is quite unusual.
The frame then shows the cave paintings - the very same cave paintings we saw in those other pictures.
Dad: We found these cave paintings on the walls. They are painted in some kind of charcoal paint mix, likely used in the creation of them. At first, the scene depicts the hunter-gatherer lifestyle of the earliest settlers themselves, hunting the woolly mammoths, bison and caribou at the time, along with the bears, cougars, and wolves that are treated with respect. Going further down the cave, we began to see fewer animals and more people with spears and bows. That is when we found the tall figures, likely exaggerated by the artists to depict their size and how they saw it. How they depicted them is very long limbs attached to a smaller body and their eyes they didn’t paint over, a hollow gaze. I felt a harrowing feeling, seeing them and gazing into their eyes. There aren’t just a few, instead, there are many of them, some have extra limbs and eyes and a few even pick up the men depicted in the paintings.
By that time, the battery went dead but we marched on deeper into the cave. We found artifacts, like pottery and arrowheads. We then stumbled upon the remains of a campsite beside the bank of the stream. As I was taking it all in, my friend pointed at something with his flashlight. The scene I saw hit me like a ton of bricks, still haunting me to this day.
There were a few human remains, so decayed that only the bone remained. I seemed to be a family of four, still wearing their fur clothes. They seem to be trying to escape a threat, and ended up here to paint this mural, only to die the hard way. I could only imagine what they went through and looking back as a family man, that fate would be worse than death, waiting for the threat to be over, which never came.
I can see him tear up, in the video, crying. Amongst the muffled cries, he said this:
Dad: I wouldn’t wish that on my family. Not even my worst enemy.
He then continued that way for a few minutes, while my initial shock slowly turned to that of sympathy for him, as this was his first time finding something like this.
Dad: Sorry, I guess I should move on.
He waited a few moments to regain composure, wiping his tears away before speaking again.
Dad: Well, after that, we climbed out of the cave. We did not tell anyone of the exact location, because we wanted to respect the people who died up there a very long time ago. My point is, that there was something that scared this family so much they made the effort to climb to the cave and paint out what is their story. There are just too many coincidences for me to think that they just went in here for the sake of it and too many of those tall beings.
That is when I believed that, long ago, something roamed these lands with us. Not some upsized human who are like us, but a horror so savage it horrified the first settlers and forced them into hiding. Now, I asked myself where they went, besides they would’ve still walked amongst us. I was looking through the libraries and saw nothing. That is when until one day, when I stopped at a gas station somewhere in Rosetown. A Cree elder was taking a smoke and told me he had a story to tell me, out of the blue. It was a weird gesture, as he had no reason to talk to me anyway. Besides, why would a Cree elder tell a white man a story?
We sat on a bench and he told me this story his tribe passed around for a very long time. He told me that, in the beginning, his ancestors feared this monster known as the Witiko. Now, today it is known as the wendigo, a solitary monster that corrupts the human soul and forces them to partake in some horrific act, usually cannibalism of their family members. Once they do that, they turn into basically thin, pale corpses with antlers on their heads and have supernatural abilities. This version also has a knack for being always hungry, constantly looking for something to eat, a metaphor for greed in most of the tribes surrounding the area.
These wendigo, or Witiko, are different. They are not the corpse zombie monster thing that was once human, but rather giant, twisted beings that came from the underworld and invaded the overworld. They ate anything for the sake of greed and malice while tormenting life on the overworld for their pleasure. It got so bad some even took it upon themselves to take their own lives. One day, their good-old Creator decided to send out his best warrior, Wisakedjak. Wisakedjak saw what the Witiko were doing and devised a plan. He banded up all the tribes and went to war with them while luring them in the process. Most, if not all, of the Witiko, were where Wisakedjak wanted them to be. The Creator then split the earth, sending them back to the underworld to which they belonged. To ensure they won’t escape again, the Creator eventually sealed the entrance of which the Witiko fell in.
I was shocked at the story, and even asking where the entrance was, only he would tell me this is a secret and that he didn’t want anyone to look for it, in fear they might be released again. After meeting him, I tried to look for genuine proof of these giants, but all I have is a few photos and a story. That is when I thought about who would cover it up, steal the bones and hide them. I guess some of those crazy conspiracy theorists might be right about the Smithsonian Museum covering them up. So I might have to cover my tracks and finish what I started. This is the show, bye.
We sat in shock, looking at each other and realising our Dad might be a nut job.
Marv: Giants? Really? This whole time?
Me: Seems like it.
That is all I could mutter out, confused at what I saw.
Me: They might be connected to his disappearance…
Marv: Okay, how is this related to his disappearance? We still don’t know where he is. Besides, he seems to be a crazy person anyway, like, he listened to one story from a random man and instantly believed him?
Marv’s inner rage became noticeable and understandable, knowing that he saw Dad as a person who cared for him through the hardest of times and now he felt like he was betrayed, like Dad went missing all over again. He eventually went to a wall and slumped against it, eventually sitting on the ground, legs carelessly splayed out and head looking down.
I felt the same way, but I was contained. I felt really sorry for him, though. I took that moment to sit beside him and hug him.
Me: It’s going to be okay. It’s going to be okay.
He then started to cry, giving me some urge to shed my tears. I began to think about my father. He left us, lying that he was going to Ontario and disappeared, only to find out he was secretly some conspiracy theorist who was chasing what seemed to be thin air. At the same time, he was a caring father, who cared about us, taught us and tried to be with us at the biggest moments of our lives. I then stared at the video recorder at the counter.
Me: Hey, should we take a look in the recorder? See what we could find?
He then looked up at me, looking at me in seriousness.
Marv: I guess, we are in this rabbit hole now.
He then took the dead recorder, took the memory card out and plugged it into his adaptor, plugged into the PC. The files showed up and there were multiple recordings. I was staring at the dates, only to realise that the final of these recordings was on May 8th, 2018. Marv then clicked on the recording.
At first, we were in a vibrant, evergreen forest, casting shadows upon the pine needle floor under an afternoon sun. The sounds of birds chirping dominated the soundscape until we heard a nudge, assuming the camera moved. We then saw Dad walk in front of the camera and stand there, he seemed to be nervous.
Dad: Hey all, I am at the cave, where I was when I was twelve. Took a bit of time to find it, but here we are, at the Childhood Cave. Now, John couldn’t come because his wife is having their child, which I understand. So, that is why I am here alone. Not a worry, I’ve been caving for most of my life, so this is nothing new.
He then came to pick up the recorder to show around the site. I can see the rope wrapped around a tree that descends into this hole. I can describe it as being similar to a well, except flat, stoney protrusions stick out of the walls like platforms, with the center being pure black.
Dad: Well, this is the first time entering the system. I hope to find anything down there.
He then buckled up his gear, making sure the rope was tight and the gear was in working order. He then walked over to the hole, recorder in hand, only to kneel to put the camera on the first platform.
Dad: Well, here we go.
He then began climbing down, feet first, holding onto whatever rock he could grasp, grunting as he went. As soon as he was at chest height on the first platform, he reached towards the camera. He suddenly disappeared into the hole, faster than the blink of an eye. One moment, he was there, then another moment he wasn’t. At that point, I was shaking and felt weak, but my brother sat still, like a stone, waiting for something else to happen. All that I heard afterwards was silent, very long and antagonizing silence until the camera ran out of battery, turning the screen black.

I really, REALLY don't want Leo to get a redemption arc in the next (and final) book.
Before I explain myself, I do want to make something clear: I just finished Trouble with Peace literally last night and haven't started The Wisdom of Crowds yet. I've managed to not get spoiled on how the AoM trilogy ends (and I'd like to keep it that way please) so I don't know if Leo actually gets the chance to "redeem" himself, or even if he actually does it. I'm just assuming that based on how TwP ended and the back cover blurb of WoC it is strongly hinted that the now broken and disgraced "civilian" Leo Dan Brock is going to try and become a proper "hero" for this new age after what he did. So based on that, I am heavily inclined to believe that after the disaster that was his attempt of a rebellion, Leo's part in the final book is going to be him realizing how his actions not only destroyed so many lives back then, but are also actively destroying the Union that he loved so much and was trying to "save" from the corrupt Close Council, and he'll do what he can to stop it and help Orso. Or maybe he won't and he'll once again get caught up with the side actively fighting the King, that's also a possibility. But for the sake of this post, I want to focus on the possibility of the former being the case.
And how much I HATE the idea of Leo getting any sort of redemption.
Bear in mind, this in not because I think that the "redemption arc" story line/trope has been overused in recent years and it's getting repetitive and stale. Nor is it because I think that the obsession with giving villains/anti heroes/fallen characters/etc redemption arcs has lead to less variety of antagonistic characters as there seems to be this idea that the only good "antagonists" these days are the ones who's actions and motivations can be either sympathetic or morally grey, and therefore ripe for them to redeem themselves in the end despite whatever war crimes they committed last week. My reason for not wanting Leo to get a redemption have nothing to do with that, and is admittedly an entirely personal and even petty reason to be honest.
I just can't stand Leo Dan Brock.
I can already hear you: "But that's the point, Leo is SUPPOSED to be unlikeable because it contrasts with the image that both the public and he himself has of him being this shining exemplar of the best the Union has to offer, and it's the reason why he is manipulated into being a part of the events in TwP." Well good job Joe Abercrombie, you succeeded. I can't stand this spoiled, arrogant, whiny shithead who would probably bend over and smell his own farts if South Park hadn't already made that joke almost 20 years ago. I just don't like reading him, unless it's about him getting his comeuppance because of his own idiocy and pride (among other things).
"Come on, you can't honestly dislike Leo that much. There are characters that have done far worse than him." You're absolutely right. There are many, MANY characters in the series that have done objectively worse things than Leo; and that's before you even take into consideration the magical cannibals. But the thing is, some of those other objectively worst characters are either more interesting/entertaining to read like Glokta, Shivers, Cosca, Vick, and even Bayaz (mostly when he drops the act) or get a very satisfying death (for me) like Benna and Morveer. Leo is neither fun to read because he's either being a blowhard, a dick, or a whiny brat, and he gets saved from execution at the last minute by Orso, and if I'm not mistaken that was more done for Savine than because he actually believed Leo out of all the captured conspirators deserved to be spared (though I could be very much wrong there, I'll admit).
"Leo is a victim of circumstances, having been warped by a very patriotic and revisioned history of his home, an ingrain sense of needing to prove himself in order to clean his family's name, and was essentially manipulated by Isher and spurred on by Savine." Again, you're right. As mentioned previously, Leo's actions are paltry when compared to what other characters have done, and a lot of the responsibility (if not most of it) for what happened in the book lands squarely on those that used him in order to push forward their own goals. But that just makes me dislike him even more. Say what you want about Savine, and there is a lot you can say about her and her role in the events of book two, but she at least was her own agent, knew exactly what she was doing, and was driven by her own ambition to keep pushing forward. Leo literally has two or three instances where he starts to think "oh god what am I doing, this might be a terrible idea" only for someone else (usually Savine) to have to tell him this is the "right" thing to do, which he is quick to accept because he just can't handle the possibility that he's not the perfect specimen of a man that makes no mistakes. All while being just an absolute dick to anyone trying to help him see reason, if said reason goes against what he wants or just questions whatever stance he has decided to take at the moment. It's not just that he's a tool, but that he acts like a giant tool the entire time as well, and that just makes me find him so insufferable.
Look I'm not saying I was salivating at the idea of him getting hanged in the end, or that I threw the book across the room in anger when Orso decided to spare him. I'm just saying that if the last I saw of Leo Dan Brock was him ugly crying while being carried away to his life in imprisonment, a broken man in both body and spirit, I wouldn't be complaining. More importantly, if you like Leo, or at the very least feel he does deserve the chance to redeem himself, more power to you. This is my own personal opinion on a character I don't particularly like for my own personal reasons.
TLDR: I don't like Leo Dan Brock as a character and I don't like the idea of him (maybe) getting a redemption arc in the third book after everything he's done in the first two.

All of this is stuff you’ve already heard before so this is just my personal looks at the album, its meaning, and why it’s probably the best rap album we’ll ever see.
If you have listened to TPAB all the way through then you remember that in the final track, Mortal Man, it’s Kendrick and someone else talking. I put this together and it’s just the conversation they have so you can easily read it and see who is talking when.
This is how I interpret albums meaning: TPAB is about the issues that African Americans will face due to the neglect of the U.S. government. The idea of the butterfly is a person who has become famous, or has power. That’s why in tracks like Wesley’s Theory, the opening track, the person talking says, “When the four corners of this cocoon collide You'll slip through the cracks hopin' that you'll survive Gather your weight, take a deep look inside Are you really who they idolize? To pimp a butterfly.” A butterfly is a transformed caterpillar, so in TPAB the idea of a caterpillar is someone who the government, or really anyone for that matter, doesn’t care about. Once they become famous (transform) and have power, they are treated better or like a butterfly.
Also, fun fact about TPAB that you prob already know. The original title was going to be “To Pimp a Caterpillar.” This was because it would then abbreviate to “2PAC” instead of TPAB.
Now for the conversation:
Kendrick: “I remember you was conflicted, misusing your influence. Sometimes I did the same, abusing my power full of resentment. Found myself screaming in a hotel room. I didn’t wanna self destruct. The evils of Lucy was all around me, so I went running for answers. Until I came home, but that didn’t stop survivors guilt. Going back and forth, trying to convince myself the stripes I earned, or maybe how A-1 my foundation was. But while my loved ones were fighting a continuous war back in the dirty, I was entering a new one. A war that was based on apartheid and discrimination. Made me wanna go back to the city and tell the homies what I learned, the word was respect. Just because you wore a different gang color than mine's doesn't mean I can't respect you as a black man. Forgetting all the pain and hurt we caused each other in these streets. If I respect you, we unify and stop the enemy from killing us, but I don't know, I'm no mortal man, maybe I'm just another n*. Shit and that's all I wrote. I was gonna call it Another N** but, it ain't really a poem, I just felt like it's something you probably could relate to. Other than that, now that I finally got a chance to holla at you. I always wanted to ask you about a certain situa--, about a metaphor actually, you spoke on the ground. What you mean 'bout that, what the ground represent?”
Friend: “The ground is gonna open up and swallow the evil…”
Kendrick - “Right…”
Friend: “That's how I see it, my word is bond. I see--and the ground is the symbol for the poor people, the poor people is gonna open up this whole world and swallow up the rich people. Cause the rich people gonna be so fat, they gonna be so appetising, you know what I'm saying, wealthy, appetizing. he poor gonna be so poor and hungry, you know what I'm saying it's gonna be like... there might be some cannibalism out this mutha, they might eat the rich.”
Kendrick: “Aight so let me ask you this then, do you see yourself as somebody that's rich or somebody that made the best of their own opportunities?”
Friend: “I see myself as a natural born hustler, a true hustler in every sense of the word. I took nothin', I took the opportunities, I worked at the most menial and degrading job and built myself up so I could get it to where I owned it. I went from having somebody manage me to me hiring the person that works my management company. I changed everything I realized my destiny in a matter of five years you know what I'm saying I made myself a millionaire. I made millions for a lot of people now it's time to make millions for myself, you know what I'm saying. I made millions for the record companies, I made millions for these movie companies, now I make millions for us.”
Kendrick: “And through your different avenues of success, how would you say you managed to keep a level of sanity?”
Friend: “and by my faith in "all good things come to those that stay true. You know what I'm saying, and it was happening to me for a reason, you know what I'm saying, I was noticing, shit, I was punching the right buttons and it was happening. So it's no problem, you know I mean it's a problem but I'm not finna let them know. I'm finna go straight through.”
Kendrick: “Would you consider yourself a fighter at heart or somebody that only reacts when they back is against the wall?”
Friend: “Shit, I like to think that at every opportunity I've ever been threatened with resistance, it's been met with resistance. And not only me but it goes down my family tree. You know what I'm saying, it's in my veins to fight back.”
Kendrick: “Aight well, how long you think it take before n***** be like, we fighting a war, I'm fighting a war I can't win and I wanna lay it all down.”
Friend: “In this country a black man only have like 5 years we can exhibit maximum strength, and that's right now while you a teenager, while you still strong or while you still wanna lift weights, while you still wanna shoot back. I am curious about your thoughts and experiences of switching back from Pmax to Standard Shopping campaigns. I used to have a successful SS (Standard Shopping) campaign with a profitable ROAS of 3.5 or more from 2020-2021. Then came Pmax. You likely know the story. It cannibalized my SS and other campaigns and gives me a ROAS between 1.5-2.5 at best. I spend about $500 a day and have about 1,000 SKUs, but they are all the same type of wall art but just different scenes. It takes a long time to gather conversion data as my site only makes about 3-5 conversions a day, about half of which google records. My cost of ads keeps going up at an alarming rate, drastically decreasing my margins. I cannot sustain this. It is putting me in the hole fast. I’ve run my business for 15 years. It’s just my wife and me and this is our sole income. This is the first time I’ve ever been legitimately concerned for the future of my business. A few months back I attempted reintroducing SS ads, but they failed to gain enough positive traction and showed a low ROAS of only 1.75 after a month. This lead me to going back and forth on budgets, being unsure what to do. In the meantime I think this made my Pmax suffer, so now nothing is converting well. I’m wondering if my new SS campaign did not perform well because I was running it concurrently with Pmax(?) I assigned them different SKUs so they wouldn’t directly compete, however, again, I mostly sell one type of product and the keywords people would search for could easily pull up any one of dozens of my SKUs. I’ve heard that conversion tracking may be weaker for SS(?) Not sure if that is true or what to think right now. It’s been a roller coaster. I love both Red Dead Redemption games, they're both well written with many memorable characters and a large great open world full of many opportunities. I think both games should be equally as praised for how they tell the story of the dying West.
However between both of these games, I find myself loving rdr1s atmosphere more than rdr2s. And there is reasons for what, weither or not you agree with those reasons is up to you and I'm not saying everyone has to agree with my opinion here. But never the less I wanna talk about it, because I think rdr1 has a very unique atmosphere and something that everyone should experience.
The major difference between rdr1s atmosphere from rdr2s, is the tone. Rdr2s atmosphere can range dramatically in the game, but most of the time Rdr2s tone is fun and hopeful. Yes there absolutely is depressive and sad moments in this game and many times where you actually feel very hopeless, but overall the tone I feel when playing rdr2 can be quite happy and hopeful. Getting to spend so much time with the gang, having cool shootouts and robberys, and with many memorable fun characters that you can't help but love for their personality and the bond you establish with them such as Sean.
Rdr1 has absolutely none of this. There is no moments in rdr1 where there's a sence of hope or fun in this game. There's no glorification in rdr1, no moments where you can feel hopeful and happy in what your doing and witnessing. As depressing as rdr2 is at the end, no one can deny that there is indeed many moments of glorification, such as storming the Braithway Manor with everyone. But in rdr1, there is no moments like this.
The majority of the story is devoid of hope, even the side missions mostly consist of dark and gloomy story's that only make you feel worse for being In such a vile world.
From saving an abused prostitute only for her to be killed anyway, to finding a cannibal in the wilderness who's killed innocent folk, to trying to help a lost man only for him to die alone and dehydrated in the wilderness, to searching flowers for a good husband only to find out his wife was dead for years and he was living with her corpse under a delusion she was still alive, to stumbling upon an old distressed woman that you eventually realise had been stood up by her fiance decades ago which drove her too insanity, to killing an innocent man in a duel due to a scumbag woman lying to you, to watching a man fall to his death with a flying invention he thought would work, to helping a man who commits beastiality with a horse
All of these are the side missions in rdr1, and their all very dark and hopeless. The majority of rdr1s content is gloomy and depressing, there is never a sence of happiness in them. Compare this to rdr2, where while there can be some dark side content, also has alot of happy and silly content too.
Even Irish, one of the only rare characters that's semi silly and meant for laughs, has a very dark and tragic end. When you find out in a newspaper that he tragically blew his own brains out accidentally in an outhouse while drunk with a revolver. Sure Seth Briars has a kind of happy end, when you find out through a newspaper that he became rich. But this is Seth we are talking about, the delusional mad grave robber who was a likely necrophile and a man who was completely fine with the prospect of torturing someone with a knife. It definitely doesn't feel good that a man like that gained a large sum of money.
My point is, the atmosphere in rdr1 is dark, depressing, gloomy and vile. There's never a sence of hope in this game, never any glorification or any moments of happiness. Its a disgusting vile atmosphere where no one's life is valued and the majority of people get the short end of the stick. Rdr2 certainly has moments similar to this, I'm in no way saying that rdr2 isn't serious or depressing, because it is. All I'm saying is, rdr1s atmosphere is completely void of anything else than rdr2 offers and thats why I love it so much. Its bleak, dark and vile.
