Idk, today was the breaking point when ALR showed the clip of Zach cheering on and wanting to play Fortnite with her.
Like…. gorlypop, are you really serious right now? They’re basically besties at this point which Zach makes coin off of, it’s weird asf.
Their vids used to call ALR out on her problematic behavior but now they just sit back and agrees/defends basically whatever she’s doing. And the constant vacations and “I don’t work weekends!!” attitude. You literally make YouTube videos for a living, I’m rolling my eyes so hard rn.
Their older content was so much better and I used to be a fan. Now? I feel like their content went downhill ever since they started doing reaction vids full-time (which, tbh why even stop working to react to obese women online…)
Just my thoughts. I’ve stopped watching a lot of their uploads at this point, but now I’m just not at all a fan anymore..

Went on a tour of Plitvice National Park in Croatia today. The only other US Citizen on our bus was a boomer man in his 70s or so traveling alone.
Some of this was relayed to me by my husband as at some points of the bus journey I could not take it and put my headphones in to drown him out.
He strikes up a conversation with a young female engineer traveling by herself. She is in her 20s from the UK and visibly a person of color, which unfortunately is relevant to the story.
He inquires where she's from. She answers that she's from London. You can guess what he asks next:
"But where are you really from?"
It didn't get any better from there.
He peppered her with questions, which turned out to be more like an opportunity for him to humble brag. Oh, she's staying in a hostel? Well, personally he could never stomach that, but he's 'not a snob or anything'. His room in Split overlooks the central square.
The young woman actually got separated from our group. I could not tell if this was intentional to get away from boomer McGee but she didn't seem that shaken as I might have been in the same situation, considering that we were a 3 hour drive up the mountain from where our accommodations were.
He sits with her at lunch along with two French girls. He has talked endlessly about his time spent living in Paris, so he's proud to show off his French skills.
She's sitting next to the window on the ride back. Of course he sits next to her, uninvited. Asking about how she felt about being lost, he talks about his own bad travel experiences, like how he lost his phone getting mugged in Paris once. Of course it was necessary for him to mention the muggers race in this anecdote and also speculate that they "must have been from Mali", as if he could possibly know this. He adds, “not that it matters, of course”, even though he must have thought it mattered enough to include it in his anecdote.
He mentions that he is by himself because his wife is "crazy about the grandkids" and sent him off by himself. My interpretation was that his family couldn't stand him and sent him on a tour of the Dalmatian coast to have some peace.
The young engineer then tactfully says that she's had a long day and was hoping to use one of the many empty rows to stretch out, and that she might move a few rows up to do so. She is sitting in the window, he is sitting in the aisle.
"Oh.... so you need me to move, then?" the boomer asks.
Yes, dipshit, she needs you to move.
The woman moves a few rows up but at no point does she sleep. I see her taking videos out the window on her phone of a fortress as we return to Split.
I thought it was notable that despite being the only other Americans on the tour, the boomer has not said one word to me or my husband, an interracial same sex couple. Not that I would have wanted him to.
We arrive back in the city and the poor engineer, unfortunately, is not free of him. The boomer comes waddling up to her. He's invited the French girls (also in their 20's) for some rose and would she like to join?
I think I hear the woman audibly sigh before she collects herself and answers that she has an early day the next morning and needs some rest. Boomer seems disappointed but thankfully does not push the issue.
I think the most unfair part of the whole thing for me was that none of what Boomer McGee was doing rose to the level of harassment. There wasn't any one thing he said where I felt like I could have stepped in and told him to leave her alone, even though it was clear to me that his attention was unwanted. It was all just idle chitchat on his part, but the pervasiveness and persistence of it was the only thing he was doing wrong. I know that women have to deal with this level of not-quite-harassment all the time, and for that I'm truly sorry.
If she reads this somehow, to the young engineer that had to put up with this all day other than that brief respite when you were lost in the park, I'm so sorry you had to deal with this loser all day. Also to the French girls, I hope you got a free bottle of rose and promptly ditched the boomer.

Introduction

There was a post that was recently posted and it's been asked a ton: "How do I get a computer science related job after I graduate from KSU?". I thought I'd share this with everyone because I've been down this path and managed to make it on the other side. This will be a long explanation and hopefully, can serve as some sort of guide for students. That being said, things are subjective and this is not the holy grail of how to make it. You might find all, some or none of it useful. I encourage testimonials and whatnot in the comments. Can be applied to all majors but, this primary for technology-based majors since I am in tech field. YMMV

About Me

I've been around here for a while. I was a student not too long ago, studied computer science for my bachelors. After graduating, I work in FAANG and have worked in big tech for a while. No, I don't work at Amazon. I am a senior software engineer. I touch frontend & backend technologies. I participate in hiring frequently.

Starting Out

Over the years and while attending here, there's been a weird disconnect between students, goals and how to achieve them in tech. Goals can be anywhere from learning new technologies, getting internships to securing a full time job before or after you graduate. As much as I would love for there to be a path where you can do minimum effort and still succeed, there isn't. A lot of you seem to not realize that. Getting a degree in this field is not enough. Doing projects that show no passion / interests is not enough. Being stuck on tutorials for years is not enough.
This field is much like a sport. There are very few people that can just be great without any effort. You have to be consistent. Four years is not a lot of time. It goes by super fast. If you constantly push things back and you do not take the time to learn the fundamentals outside the classroom, you will not succeed in this field. This field is at a point where there's so many of you. Every post on LinkedIn and news articles said "hey, this field is a gold mine and you'll make six figures out the gate". For a time, maybe that was somewhat true. As of writing this, it's not. You're going against people who have: better schools, better experience, etc. You have to find a way to diversify yourself early. If you can't diversify, you're going to be in a tough place later down the road. Knowledge not something you can just consume in less than an hour and pass an interview. You have to know it well. If you don't, there's someone else who will.
There's an interesting connotation in life that you're either born super smart or an absolute idiot and that you have to be smart to do computer science / programming. There are people with raw IQ that can consume things like no one you've ever met but, that's such a rarity that there's no realistic use in using that as a data point. If you ever took the time to ask someone who you thought was really good at something, they would tell you something along the lines of: I love what I do and I spent a lot of time doing this. There are hours and hours of time people put into passions that you don't / will never see. Meaning that they can no-life this shit for days on end and still come back and do it some more. It doesn't mean that you can't succeed if don't do that but, computing / programming is a very boring field if you do not enjoy it. I would seriously contemplate why you're going through this. If you're doing it for money and only money, you're going to end up miserable. No amount of money can make you do something you hate. It'll wear you down both mentally and physically. If you're doing this because it's a mix of passion and money, you're like everyone else and you gave yourself a better shot. It's a mental thing. Don't climb uphill if you rather sit at the bottom. Don't complain if you're at the bottom and you rather be at the top. There's nothing wrong with that. But, don't do it. For what it's worth, I am not the smartest person. I graduated high school with a low GPA and took college seriously because I wanted to do more with my life. Plus, being on hourly forever sounds horrible imo. Use the opportunities that life has given to you and run with it. Run far, run smart and run in a direction that you can see yourself going long-term.
Additionally, college is what you make of it. Blaming professors or the program (while I do agree sometimes) is not a solution. Blaming professors that don't speak English is a cop out. If you work in tech, you'll be interacting with a lot of people from other countries. Suck it up. Work with it instead of against it. Professors and TAs can only teach you so much. Classes are meant to give you a taste of what it's like in that domain / space. It's not meant to fix all your issues and show you the way. That's for you to do on your own time. Take accountability of your own success, explore the internet (it's free) and lock in. Stop looking for opportunities to find you. Actively seek them out yourself.

Networking

Make connections with people. I cannot stress how important this is. Especially on the Marietta campus, there's a lot of you that go to class, stingers / food, run to class and immediately start gaming and think that when your classes are over, you're done for the day. That's a bad mindset. Make connections with people. Sit with random people at stingers or wherever. Have a conversation. Find a common interest. Don't harass men / women for a date while you're at it. Keep it cool. A lot of people say "there's nothing to do at KSU and there's no life on campus". That's not true at all. It's true if you choose to put your head in a box and refuse to look up. Join a club that interests you. Get close to the people in that club who actively attend and build a personal relationship. If there's no club with your interest, make a club. Fuck it, lead one. You can make one officially through KSU or add a discord server to the student hub and go from there. You'll meet some really cool like-minded people. Lots of my connections have come from randomly showing up to a club, getting out of my comfort zone and weirdly enjoying it.

Interviewing

Brush up on your interview skills. Technical and behavioral abilities matter. Culture fit matters. A lot of you seem to walk around with almost zero personal hygiene. Clean yourself up, practice talking to people and get places. There's been this stigma that culture fit doesn't matter as much as technical and if I have great technical abilities, they'll just accept me. I can tell you for an absolutely fact that I have thrown out / tossed out resumes from highly technical individuals that had zero people skills. If you can't communicate and clean up, you're more of a risk than someone who does all those things and has a bit less technical ability. I can teach someone how to code. I can't teach someone how to take a shower or brush their teeth. Know more than just Leetcode. Learn system design. Take a course / watch a video on Linux and bash. Do not be afraid of the command line interface. Understand how things work at a deeper level. Take feedback seriously. Do not argue with people. If you future manager / colleague tells you that you need to work on things, work on those things. There's nothing worse than a co-worker in denial.

Jobs

As for internships and full time opportunities, there's a few classes at KSU that you really want to master: Data structures, Algorithm Analysis, Operating Systems and Discrete math. If you're in a major that doesn't have those classes, spend the extra money and take those classes. Do not take them online if you can afford to come in person. Take the hardest / best professors for those courses. Super important. Leetcode is quite literally, those classes merged together in a prompt-style format. If you do not understand those concepts, you will not make it in this field let alone pass an interview loop.
Data Structures - Varies. Rate my professor.
Algorithm Analysis - Varies. Rate my professor.
Operating Systems - Do not take Carla McManus if you want to learn the concepts fluently.
Discrete Math - Andy Wilson.
Having solid resume is super important. Many people who don't secure things and get automatically rejected, etc have horrible resumes. Spend the money (it's a lot) to get your resume professionally written. It's worth it. Invest in your long term career aspirations. Templates are cool but, they don't convey information well and come across as lazy. Don't put every achievement ever on there. I don't want to see a wall of text. No, I don't care if you're a Boy Scout. No, I don't care if you bussed tables in high school. You get the point. The rule of "only one page" is complete and total bullshit. If you have projects and prior work experience related to the role, list it down. Don't conserve space for the sake of keeping it one page. You're limiting yourself. I know the career center actively tells people on handshake to keep it to one page. They're wrong. I landed internships & full time roles consistently at big tech / FAANG for years with a 1.5 / 2 page resume. Do not lie on your resume. If you can't solve a leetcode hard consistently with the technology / language of choice, you don't know it well enough. I have interviewed a ton of students and people that list they know C or Python and can't write recursion or gives me a solution in O(N^2) or worse. Aim for O(N), use a hashmap / hash table when you can and do it in a language that doesn't make you fight the runtime / compiler. Trust me, we know when you're making shit up. If you don't know something say it and then, tell them to explain more. This way, you show that you have the capability to learn. Ask smart questions. Do not ask questions that have already been answered. Take notes.
On your resume, experience is only real experience if you get a W2. If you don't get a W2, you can't claim it as professional experience. A lot of background checks these days are drilling down on incorrect information. I have seen instances where people lie, get an offer, company finds out through a comprehensive background check and their offer is gone. Do not put the fate of your future income on a lie. I cannot stress this enough. A lot of students and people actively lie.
Secondly, the trick to getting a good internship is timing. A lot of you wait until Nov - Dec to find an internship and then, throw your hands up when no one responds. That's not a good mindset. Solid internships are recruiting in end of July to August. By September, the amount of open spots are extremely thin. Local companies tend to look for internships during this time. Internships are about luck after that. Reach out to people in your circle to increase your odds. A referral goes a long way. Prior experience through projects that are complex and unique go a long way. It's a numbers game. Don't aim for the highest thing ever without some sort of referral. You can still apply but, do not expect much from it. Start small and work your way up. It's extremely rare to go from KSU undergrad sophomore to Google. It takes a lot of outside work. If you happen to land the internship, make sure that you get recommendations at the end. Having real people who you worked with in a professional capacity that can vouch for you is huge. If you're in your junior year and you get an internship, make sure you try to secure a full time offer. Loop in your boss, mentor, etc. Make your expectations clear. Reach their expectations and beyond.
Thirdly, full time opportunities are rare and most new grads that get hired come from the previous year's intern pool. If you don't get converted, you have to make up that time searching for a job during your senior year. If you do get converted, keep looking because companies are flaky these days. Always have a Plan B & C. Never fully count on Plan A. If you don't have internships across four years, it's over for you. From a hiring manager perspective, it's an absolute red flag when we come across someone with a degree and no internships. That's effectively going against the point of college. You'll have to settle for crumbs and crawl your way up. Very few make it out of that hole. The bar is significantly higher. Especially, now.

Searching for an Opportunity

Do not wait until after you graduate to find a job. Jan - Early May are when most companies finalize budgets and hire. If you wait until after May, you'll might have to wait until after the Summer and possibly, October for hiring to pick up again. Proactivity is nothing but good for you. If you can't be proactive then, you won't succeed in this field. Referrals matter but, personal connections with the hiring manager / recruiter are much, much better. Work your way up. Don't discount an opportunity because it doesn't pay well. Get as much experience as you can and bounce around. Do not go into the gate thinking you're going to make $120K - $140K / yr out the gate. You're most-likely going to make $68K - $75K / yr depending on the location. Do not listen to LinkedIn posts that claim all this cool shit and how to do it. Trust me, it's bullshit. Don't pay attention to it. It's a brag-fest. It's a long road. Start walking on it early and you'll reach the other side when it matters most. Trust in it.
The reality of this economy is that highly experience people have been laid off. Those people are applying to entry level roles and those roles are being filled for cheap. In addition, watch out for fake postings and scam jobs. If you take a contract job, always keep looking. Avoid jobs that will providing "training" before you even start. Avoid jobs that are less than week old. You want things that are fresh. It's a numbers game. Apply for 300+ jobs every week until you get a response back. Don't be discouraged by employers who don't respond or ghost you. Keep at it. It's a mental game.

Conclusion

I think if you do these things, you'll end up at a great spot after four years. If you're just now coming across this and you've been slacking, use this an opportunity to wake the fuck up, light a fire under your ass and lock in. If you're still in denial after reading this post and you have yet to get anything, light a fire under your ass, come to terms with it and lock in.
If you're in it to do zero work, cheat on your classes, mess around for four years and somehow wing a high salary or a job in this field, good luck. You're fucked. You're so fucked, in-fact, that you'll be wondering "why me and why is it so hard" for a long ass time. Don't be that person.

Understand: Monolith vs. Micro-services, Tradeoffs between different approaches, Vertical vs. Horizontal Scaling, Load Balancers, Buckets, Data lakes, CI / CD Pipelines, Data Clusters, Client-Server Architecture, Synchronous vs. Asynchronous Context: System design is like a giant puzzle that has many forms. Create a basic design. It won't be perfect. Mix-and-match different services and know why, how and tradeoffs between each approach.
Programming language is dependent on the role and what the company favors. Common ones are Java, C++, Python, C#, JavaScript / TypeScript and C. You can look at jobs that you would like to work someday, look at the requirements and use that as a basis on where to start learning. Things constantly change. Fundamentals build up on each other. Start small. Work your way up. Do not dream big. Dream realistic. Everyone is different.

I just turned 25 (M) , I haven't been in a relationship nor dated much irl as I'm religious.
I have been using dating apps for the past few years, and it's cooked my brain.
I just feel super detached and jaded, no longer feel the depth of people, like it's become arcade like and not all these real people with real lives.
Everyone is swipe swipe, nice convos that abruptly end, overanalysing profiles, and my own, not feeling a spark, and just much more.
I didn't even have a "type" and now in my head it's formulized.
I feel completely jaded, I don't feel these sparks anymore, I haven't met many irl (probs the issue) as I don't like to meet someone that I feel ime 50/50 about. Because it's religious apps, it's pretty serious intent to meet irl and knowing them etc.
I keep talking to lovely women, attractive women (suprised they're even speaking with me!), and Yet I'm not not feeling anything anymore.
I hate how I'm being treated and how I'm treating others in this chaotic system.
I don't want to cut off completely tho as it's a valid way of meeting someone, , but what are some things I can do to mitigate damage and not be fully jaded? The golden rules per say...
My current ones are :

1. If you're not attracted to someone do not open or continue conversation.
   I thought it was respectful to give most people a chance but the spark doesn't grow and it wastes people's time. (both sides)
   
2. Don't get over excited for first meet ups or commitments (calls/video etc).
   

The constant roller coaster of excitement and disappointment is devastating.

1. Don't send voice notes as an opening line, everytime I've done that it backfires.

2. If someone tells you they're toxic or have commitment issues as jokes, just take it as good advice from someone they know well (aka themselves).

This is a long post so I apologize in advance. I am a 19/yo man and for as long as I can remember I have always been straight. I remember having crushes on girls since elementary school.
When puberty came, I remember getting turned on by the girls in my grade and the grade ahead of me and by girls I saw on instagram and p*rn sites. I would watch straight porn and I would look at twerking vids and kissing pranks lmaoo and I remember getting so turned on. I even remember when my friend caught me searching “boobs” online lmao. I recall having a crush on at least 5+ girls (that’s all I can remember right now). I never asked any of them out because I was very nervous and I was afraid of rejection and humiliation. Although I did tell one of them I liked them but they did not feel the same way. Then quarantine came and I was doing online school for about a year and half so I wasn’t seeing anybody besides my family.
Despite this, I would still get horny and turned on by women I saw on tiktok or instagram or p*rn sites. I came back to in person school in September of 2021 around that same time, I caught feelings for this girl I was talking to on my phone (I had never met her before I had only seen pictures of her). I remember being very infatuated with her. I would look at pictures of her and I would enjoy talking with her on the phone and I wanted to see her in person one day. We decided to online date with the hopes of seeing each other one day. (Btw this was my first ever relationship) While we were “dating” I was only focused on her and I didn’t think of any other girl in my school the same way as I thought of her. That relationship lasted for around 2 months and we broke up. Then we stopped talking shortly thereafter and I’ll admit I was hurt.
A month after we stopped talking, I started hanging out with this one girl at my school (let’s call her V) V and I would talk a lot and I would see her after school. Eventually, V caught feelings for me and told me. I will admit I remember feeling some slight feelings for her but they were not nearly as intense as the feelings I had for previous crushes. I wanted to make my ex online girlfriend jealous by posting videos of V and I. After awhile V wanted to date me but I didn’t think I was ready but I decided to anyway because I didn’t want to hurt her. Keep in mind, I did think V was very attractive I just didn’t have feelings for her like I did with previous girls. V and I ended up dating for a year and 3 months. V was my first everything she was my first kiss and I lost my virginity to her. Despite me thinking V was very attractive I just didn’t feel any emotional or romantic attraction to her. Which led me to believe something was wrong with me.
To be completely honest, I haven’t had a libido or a crush since 2022. I was (and still am) able to get erections and engage in intercourse and I will admit it felt amazing and I wanted to keep doing it but I was confused as to why I wasn’t feeling horny like I did in the years prior. After V and I broke up, I became very isolated due to me taking a gap year after graduation. Lately, I have become worried about not feeling horny and not catching feelings for any girls like I have in the past. I feel like the isolation might be a factor to this. I have thought “maybe I am aromantic or asexual” but this doesn’t sound right since I have had crushes on girls in the past and I have been turned on by girls in the past.
I thought coming to this subreddit would help me figure out what’s going on. I have a theory that maybe since I am getting older I may not get crushes as easily because I am maturing as a person and I might want to get to know a girl before I catch feelings for her instead of instantly catching feelings. This is the third woman named some variety of Tiffany I'm watching the package on. Tiphany, and Tiffeneigh were before this. It seems like praising Disney corporation was the secret to getting through the AI hiring algorithm, also being phonetically named Tiffany or something really close to it.
The Disney Corp executive producer that Captain Tanner introduced to me to is an android. I always assumed they'd be more... human looking, but apparently there are laws against that sort of thing now. Galactic government, glad to hear it has enough power to enforce things even on Disney corp. This thing looks like a T-800 terminator, but it has a cheery voice that sounds vaguely British to me in a way I can't quite pin down. It seems to have sensed my discomfort at this task.
"It is important that you personally approve of each potential mate. We wish for this process to be enjoyable and more importantly, profitable for everyone involved. Focus groups have told us that Phonetic Tiffany named women will likely help most with that secondary objective. Surely a man of your time wouldn't have issue with such a name."
I had to laugh, "That name's far older than my time. But okay, so it'll make us the most money to have her be named Tiffany somehow. Fine, I'm fine with that." I am, right? Fine enough. Whatever gets me out of this time and into a better future seems worth it.
I finished watching Tiffany's Video, and watch Typhuny next. Then Tiophughny. Then Taoifenieh. Then I lost it. They were all so the same. Slight variations in hair color and skin tone or eye color, but these women were all essentially clones of each other.
"THATS IT! I can't take another one of these." It was too weird. "I thought the Captain said there were Aliens out there, Is that part at least a little star trek like? Aren't there alien women that want to romance rich famous humans?"
The Producertron-800 made a noise like an ancient modem connecting to the internet for a moment. I must have had a look on my face, because it said, "Do not be alarmed, I am only contacting Disney corp headquarters on my internal high speed quantum Modem."
"Not alarmed, surprised." I guess it's the same thing, really. "You just, sounded like an old modem for a moment. So what does headquarters say, can I try to romance an alien woman too?"
"This will be even more profitable than if you try with human women." replied the Disney Rep.
Captain Tanner went over the contract, and set out some objectives to get a few changes made. I trusted him and approved him to be my representative in those negotiations with Disney. I had apparently made him and his ancestors rich, and myself as well. He didn't have any reason to treat me poorly. In fact it was in his own selfish interest to treat me well, and if there anything I knew I could count on from the people of this time, was that most of them would selfishly act in their own interest.
The Doctor had been taking me to meals. He was a rare weirdo in this time, charitable, kind, expected nothing in return. Probably helped that he was also the beneficiary of some ancient bank accounts and compound interest.
After a week of hanging out on the HSS Davis-Catcher, yes, a ship made specifically to catch me and the Zipdrive, I was sent to the set for the space bachelor. It was another ship in space. We took a shuttle.
The captain had done a good job in his negotiations, only humanoid aliens and a couple of human women. There was a cat-folk person. A Felidian, as I learned they are called. I wasn't a huge anime guy before becoming an astronaut, but I calls them like I see's them. That's a catgirl. Her name is Tiffnyany.
I felt bad for not being attracted to one of the other aliens. Terraphiny was a really sweet Turtle-person, a Cyptrondian Testudian. She could pull her head inside her shell, and watching her get comfortable enough to put it out and talk was kind of super adorable. They're a pretty literal people, and don't use euphemisms often or well. I liked her as a person, she was fun to hang out with sure but... I couldn't do it when she ask me if I wanted "To get up inside her cloaca" one night in the hot tub. Surprisingly huge turn off. I apologized profusely for my ancient old-timey racism. She told me it was fine, I was a product of a different time... but man that only made it cut deeper. I felt like such an asshole. But we were contractually obligated to 'engage in newly wed activities' during the next two hundred years, or what would be our wedding night, I just couldn't with Turtle girl.
In the end, I gave the diamondillium rose to Tiffnyany. She was also lots of fun to spend time with. Unlike the reality shows of my time, the producers did not have to interfere for there to be juicy drama. One of the other women on the show, the first to go, was a dog-person. She and the catgirl got into a fight, and it was determined that she started it, and she was kicked off. Later, the catgirl almost killed what I am going to generously call a bird with lips that had been taunting her for days. They let me decide who would stay, and bird lady had to go.
Six weeks had flown by, and somehow I had ended up with what I would have derisively called a catgirl waifu two months ago from my perspective. The wedding was a whole giant spectacle, of Disney proportions. I hear over ten billion sapient beings tuned in live.
In the eight weeks since I had arrived in this time time they had gone far beyond a 'retrofit' for my Zipdrive ship. Nyany, as I learned she preferred to be called but I couldn't legally call her on the show, and I boarded the ship. Captain Tanner was there, so was the doc. Captain tanner went over all the new systems with me and Nyany. Part of why I chose her was that she was a warp field engineer, and absolutely brilliant. One of the human women was a quantum computer programmer, but If we ended up in a future that sucked, I'd want an engineer more than a programmer.
Nyany was far more comfortable at the ship's controls than I was, though contractually I had to be the one to pilot us to the starting position when we launched from space dock. I also had to be the one to push the big shiny red button to activate the updated and upgraded Zipdrive. It was now the RarDrive. Apparently this version worked on the same principles but didn't leak high levels of exotic radiation in it's wake. Probably worth the upgrade.
What felt like an eternity in a fever dream was coming to an end, I was aboard a ship again that would take me from this time. The doctor gave us both a couple of injections before we launched. "That'll probably work. You two oughta be able to have kids now. Gene therapy tech is really the best."
I hadn't even considered that as a possibility. "Shit doc, why did you give us that?"
"It's in your contract," Captain Tanner said. "Subsection 3 of this part here, 'Newly-wed activities must include the threat of potential pregnancy', for maximum profit extraction purposes, of course. We got three points for me and my firm and seven for you and Misses Davis.
"I didn't take his name." Nyany said, "In our culture men take the women's name. We decided to both keep our own. I am still Tiffnyany Pantigris."
"Systems check complete, and the contract is ready for each of your thumbprints, then we'll get out of your hair and let you get on with the honeymoon." The captain had a smile on his face, a business deal that's beneficial to all is a rare thing, and he's enjoying it while he can.
"Probably best to try to forget about us out there watching your every move." The doctor said as he packed up his kit and made his way to the docking port to take the shuttle back.
We moved into position, all the press ships and camera flashes a guy could want greeted us. With Nyany sitting behind me quietly whispering guidance to me I pulled us into position and waited for the countdown from Captain Tanner on his ship.
Finally it got down to "Three, Two, One. Godspeed, Captain Davis!"
The drive exploded us through the rainbow, painfully bright. I had had the foresight to warn my bride that it would hurt to witness, but be beautiful all the same. When it was done we were given the soft shimmery golden light that I experienced outside the ship the first time.
I'm sure you want the gritty kitty details of our nuptial situation, but you gotta pay extra for that. What I will tell you though is that we fulfilled out contractual obligations. Also, a satisfied catgirl will purr as she lays on your chest afterward. I dunno if I made trillions during that time, but I sure felt like a trillion bucks.
The honeymoon day that took two hundred years was over all too soon.
The same long dead woman's voice chimed onto the speakers.
"Nine."
"Eight."
.
.
.
"Three."
"Two."
"One."
We slammed through the rainbow again, only in reverse order of yesterday's launch two hundred years ago.
There were no fireworks this time, no heroes greeting. Only a singular massive grey slab of an obvious warship waiting for us.
They hailed and I answered. "Greetings Capitalist pigdog of the past. You are under arrest for crimes against the regime. Prepare to be boarded."
I looked at Nyany, and she looked at me. "Hit the red button again?" she asked. There was fear evident in her voice, and as I reached out to hit the big red button and launch us off for another day.
Engine power failure
"There is no escape Comrade, unlimited space communism rules the day here, we have seized the means of your power production." The communist captain said.
And then a tractor beam attached.

I found this public structure with stairs, ramps and a covered bridge that crosses a set of railroad tracks. I've been going mostly to test my fear of heights and get over it like gradual exposure therapy. First time I was able to take a few ramps up, but stopped before the top. I was ok with the stairs. Looking down was scary. Gradually, after a few tries on different days., it got better. One day on a particularly windy day, I managed to get to the top with the ramps , but felt a bit unsteady, and afraid. There were these 2 young women who looked at me from ground level and one of them screamed AHHHHHH , then the other laughed. Guess they thought it was funny to joke around about me possibly falling or jumping off. I swung my arms in the air and looked down as if I was thinking of jumping.
I kept walking and 2 minutes later, ran into the young women. I asked: what would they do if someone jumped from the bridge? Looks like they were stunned, one came up with the reply: "well that's their choice I guess...I wouldn't care". I reacted with: that's a weird question isn't it? Then she replies yeah...and the other asked me "Are you OK?" To which I responded, don't worry , I won't jump, wished them a nice day and continued my walk. They climbed over a railing and took a selfie.
I have mixed feelings about getting them to think about a dark topic after they trolled me with that yelling. I also don't feel like returning there soon in case someone else grills me on it or takes a video and posts it on fb or something. Was the question I asked wrong? Or did the youths deserve to think about the jumping topic? Maybe they'll think twice about what they yell and to whom.
tl;dr AITAH for asking a pair of teenagers what they would do if someone were to jump off a high platform onto a set of railroad tracks?

I was talking about this with a friend last week and it really got me thinking.
In 2024, we are surrounded by technology of all kinds. And for many of you reading this, your formative years were shaped by this technology.
As a middle millennial in his early 30s, I've seen the world pre and post-technological advances.
I saw what it was like when smartphones exploded onto the scene. I saw what it was like when "everybody" said you just "had" to be on social media. I saw when people were embracing these things wholesale because technology = progress.
Or at least, that's what we all collectively thought back in the 2010s.
My 20s were largely in the 2010s and I saw many of my friends and peers fall into varying degrees of Internet addiction, social media addiction, gaming addiction and so forth.
I myself had varying degrees of addiction to varying things and I can say without a doubt that it has made me less successful than I could have been.
I have a great life now, I make great money, I date great women. But I can only trace that to being willing to disconnect from technology for extended periods of time. If I did it a lot sooner, I would have probably been on my path of success a lot sooner.
I realized this but I didn't want to do it when I first realized it. It took me several more years of pain and frustration that I had to ask myself "am I really spending my time wisely?" And the answer to that question was a flat out "NO". I wasn't spending time on the things that would really increase my life.
Instead, I spent it on chronic gaming, chronic fapping, chronic scrolling, chronic being an NPC in my own life.
And you might say "I can have these things without having to give up my devices". And probably you might be. You might be one of those people who just happens to stroll right into having a good life, like someone walking into a hotel lobby.
But you cannot deny the fact that it is too easy to spend days of your life doing nothing but clicking, scrolling, watching, etc.
And life is not on your screen. It's not in your little comfortable room where you're surrounded by you being able to push a button and get what you want for the moment.
Because when you are so accustomed to getting what you want in real time, it erodes your ability to get and do things in real life.
Your social skills lag. Your ability to resolve conflicts lag. Your dating abilities lag. Your ability to read and comprehend dense material lags. Your ability to participate in the larger world around you lags. So many things are affected by your unrestricted use of technology.
You essentially breed weakness in yourself.
My suggestion is to limit your technological interaction to such a degree where you are FORCED to do things in the real world.

• Limit your social media use or delete your accounts.
• Stop getting notifications on your phone from random things/people/activities.
• Don't spend an entire day texting back and forth.
• Don't spend all day on Reddit or other "social media-lite" platforms.
• Limit or eliminate your video game usage.
• Stop watching and interacting with news.
• Limit or eliminate your Netflix/Hulu/Disney+/Whatever watching time.
• Don't go down rabbit holes searching for useless trivia online.
• Limit or eliminate your use of online "adult content".
• Get rid of various apps on your phone.
• Don't pull out your phone in line and scroll a social media feed.

So many ways to put a wall between you and technology, which will suck up your time and return little if nothing back.
Instead, engage in real life.
Yes, it is scary. Yes it is anxiety-inducing.
But this is how humans have lived ever since our ancestors were in small tribes.
Life is an anxiety-inducing affair. Things don't always go your way. You may have to wait before you do something or achieve something. You will most likely have to work hard to get the things you want in life. You will have to communicate and express yourself properly if you want to get your needs met. You will have to step outside your comfort zone.
Life is not something you can be shielded from or coddled away from. It is something that must be lived and faced everyday.
And your ability to live well in 2024 will be detrimentally affected by how fixated and addicted you are to technology.

Beseiged by nasty rumours and a whisper campaign, Priyanka Chopra has decided to immerse herself in work and focus on her forthcoming music album. But while the 29-year-old Pee Cee has opted for a dignified silence in the face of nasty media whispers, friends of the actress claim that her calm faade is just that.
Juggling work, her father's illness, and these rumours have taken a toll on the star. In particular she is upset and flummoxed by the campaign unleashed by a powerful producer-director who can make and break careers in Bollywood. "At a recent party while he was feeding her cupcakes, she heard rumours of him bitching her out-all this is very hurtful," said a close associate of the actress who did not want to be identified. The associate-cum-friend believes that a powerful clique of star wives is behind this spate of anti-Priyanka stories. "Priyanka has done nothing wrong. For years now Gauri has played the role of the perfect star wife – dressing and acting the part, being seen with the right people (only those who SRK approved of!) and building an image that she exploited and enjoyed at the time. All he knew was her first name, where she lived (out of state), that she was an alcoholic and had a serious long-term boyfriend that had no idea this is how she handles her days and "would be devastated to know" (her words in response to my WH asking her how her BF felt about them engaging this way, as per my own witness of such text)
When I found out about the sexting, after picking myself back up off the floor, I immediately went into detective mode. Paid for the background check, found out where she lives, her full name, where she works, etc... for no other reason then sheer madness and curiosity as I was seeking so many answers. But, I also figured out who that long term BF is... and I want SO BADLY to anonymously message him and share a few bits of proof of who he's really dating. It's coming from a place of "want to get back at hewant to save someone else from this heartache"
My WP and I are in early R. While I am still processing so much hurt, I know R is the right step. We are 11 years in with crushes on each other dating back to when we were 10 years old. Kids are happy. Sex life came back. (And we have a very adventurous one. Enjoy it all. Explore it all. Lots of play and fun. Lots of deep intimacy as well. Always has been.) The sparkle came back to his eyes.

Reached out to over 80 women. Had only 4 that actually became regular sext partners and it was daily) - so my warped mind is, like, "ok" with the fact that around the time we got better, he stopped reaching out to her. (She was the only one left) But every 2-3 months or so, she just can't fucking help herself, her "other lovers don't answer her anymore and...." Cry me a fuckin river...
I ripped into her via text the day after discovery from a ghost number. Laid her out with everything I could muster that wasn't a threat. Told her exactly who she was, exactly what she could do with herself, and exactly how disgusting and ugly and worthless she was to this world. (Not sorry).
I watched him end it. I watched her respond saying "Good because he was nothing to her anyway and how disappointing he was for doing this to her" and he promptly told her to go get hit by a bus. (And I am comforted when he says that if any of the women he made this mistake with were to be dead tomorrow, his life would go on with a skip in his step and no sympathy. They were "pieces of meat" to him. Not women. Incredibly mean words, I realize... and we are actually very non-hate-fueled, but that's how he processed this. It's how I need to, as well, to find my footing right now)
We've been doing ok. I feel and see his remorse. I have zero trust and he has been incredible about allowing me every ounce of everything I need as these weeks develop, post. We're going to make it through this, over this and beyond this.
But... do I tell? It's one of the last things I feel I need before I can start putting her out of my life and mind, and truly work on reconciling and rebuilding us/trust. And I don't even care what comes of it, except to go to bed tonight knowing... he now knows too. We're even.

I (25f) have been working for my company for a year and a half. It is an incredible company that I planned on sticking with through graduation. My team is a fairly small, tight knit team. For reference it is international company and very corporate. We also have another location in the area, which is relevant.
I recently went out with my coworkers for one of their birthdays, there were about 6 of us total. We had a few drinks, danced, hung out, and had a lot of fun. I know most of these women and they're all around 40-50 years old. There was only one guy (47m) there, and he is from our other location. I don't know him super well but I've met him before. He is friends with the birthday girl.
While I was dancing, I looked over and saw that he was recording me. I confronted him, and even though I shouldn't have, I grabbed his phone to delete the videos. He ended up physically pinning me down to grab his phone back and I proceeded to tell him that I felt like that was predatory and that I wanted to see him delete the videos. He did delete them and I left the party shortly after.
I was just going to let it go until I found out that he is planning on applying to the open position on my team. I want to talk to management but I'm scared it's going to reflect poorly on me because I am the youngest person on the team and they already have an opinion on how I am outside of work (as in I go out, go to concerts, etc). This professor talks about how they examined the brains of transgender cadavers, of people who had NOT gone on HRT but who claimed they were in the wrong body until they died...and in all of them, this one part of the brain corresponded more to the sex they claimed they were...than their assigned sex.
So. Let's zoom out for a second. Let's say this is a real thing, that a lot of people are being born as the wrong gender. A lot of things change:

1. The Republican argument that we are delusional, and making this up, could gradually fall away, and then get replaced with something else. Will this be for the better? It would be disturbing if it transformed into something more blunt...but simultaneously, I could see a lot of folks simply walking away from the debate if intersex roots of gender dysphoria were more well publicized
2. Detrans people can feel less ashamed because really they are just dealing with a very complex medical situation. Their inability to transition has nothing to do with some ivory tower philosophical binary, where transitioning is either wonderful or evil...instead, they are just dealing with a situation they have very little control over, working with the tools available to them...
3. Questions arise...why are we invisibly intersex? Is this a natural phenomenon, or is it arising from environmental factors?
4. Could this mentality lead to a world that is more compassionate and equitable for transgender people?
5. Finally, other perspectives arise. What if some people have this condition, but they are in such serious denial, that they will ignore it until the day they die? What of those people? How they will they influence the world around them? What if they are policy makers, celebrities, criminals...what if they are misogynists or misandrists? What if the reason some women hate men SO much is because they are men? And some men hate women SO much is because they are women?

I have spent a decent amount of time on various dating apps and have been on many dates over the years. I don’t use them anymore for various reasons but couple of advices here in case someone finds them useful.
A dating app not being able to offer you a date doesn’t say much about you, you viscerally need to start believing that. These platforms are theoretically designed to maximise the number of matches which can keep the platform’s business model up and running.
If you are someone who doesn’t get a lot of matches, trust me, the day you get 50 matches, you won’t know what to do with them. You won’t be able to have one real conversation with an individual and just fidget over all that information overload. Women go through this all the time! She doesn’t know what great things you have going on in your life or how funny you are by looking at your pictures, however great they are, since the 10 guys on your left and on your right will also have some nice pictures.
To get laid or to get a date you need to focus on Activation and Conversion. By activation I mean, maximise the number of matches and by conversion I mean, converting those matches into dates. Conversion is easy: reply fast, be interested, swear not to flirt or talk about sex until you guys meet in person and you know she is very much into you, be or pretend to be confident, and have fun on your first date like you would with your college friend. Never ask her for anything! Not her name, age, how was her day or if she is interested in going out. Just swear to not ask for anything. Just be super interested in them and talk about any random shit you care about. If you guys hit it off, she will tell you her name, address, insta handle, and her bra size. Activation is slightly difficult but try to be very sincere in your bio, experiment with puns, poems, show your artsy side, your dancing skills, avoid group photos and use videos if you can. Here you have to make sure you give out a confident vibe with subtle hints of you having a life. Your photos, your choice of words, your music choices, your dressing sense will all optimize this.
Finally, be more empathetic towards women, try to see them for what they are, standard human beings. Its not a fucking movie and no woman is looking for a kabir singh, they want a normal guy because/if they are normal.
Regardless, dating platforms are taking away the self-respect from men by making them beg, and the personality from women by ensuring they don’t need it.
Bonus tip: Delete your accounts, wait for the next time you are super happy, feeling funny/confident naturally and setup an account then. A likeable you in real life will reflect somehow on your profile too!
