So, since I grew up the way in which I did, I wasn’t completely socialized. Compared to some kids in my class, I was very social, but I digress.
As I aged, I found myself being more of an observer than a participant. Participating didn’t always work out for me because when I tried, I always screwed something up. I didn’t get the jokes, I couldn’t tell who was being serious (that definitely would have helped me as a young kid and teenager). It wasn’t until I met my spouse that I learned dry humor, and how to recognize it.
Being in the position of an observer has afforded me a lot of room for thought. Like, there was the time in college where my roommates and I were hosting a party. This giant of college kid was mad at his girlfriend - he was drunk and screaming at her (I think some other dude said hi to her).
The man had her pinned up against a wall, one hand on the wall to the left of her head, the other punching the wall to the right of her head.
I was yelling at him to back off, and I was going to insert myself in between them because, as a kid, that’s what I had needed but no one did it for me.
It would have been stupid but the guy made me furious. My boyfriend pulled me away and held me and said, “Wait until he calms down and kick him from the party.” Hey, it was the 1990’s, and I was young. He was young. He ended up being right.
I thought about that girl a lot - wondered if she ever dumped her brute of a boyfriend, or did she stay with him? Never found out.
Later on, I was put in an untenable position where a family member was about to up end their life over some woman - they were going to abandon their kids, their family, all of it.
I managed to get through that, but after all is said and done, and I look at the facts like they are playing cards laying on a green velvet-covered table, I saw how the woman brainwashed him.
1) she kept him from sleeping more than five hours a night;
2) she made up situations to where he was the only one who could solve it for her, such as she pretended like an old boyfriend was chasing her in a car and she needed my family member to keep her safe;
3) she isolated him from his kids;
4) she tried to get him to sign for her to get a new car, and she promised she’d pay for it but she couldn’t buy it unless he signed for it. (Fortunately, he didn’t).
5) she told him what to think. If he tried to think for himself, she wouldn’t leave him alone until he agreed with her. His family were the bad guys. He needed to see that.
5) finally, he was to replace his own kids with hers. He was expected to accept this new family in lieu of everyone he knew and used to love.
It’s a tall ask, you know. And yet, every year, you’ll hear or learn of someone who did go down that road and never came back. Or, they came back but there was no back to go back to.
My job, in dealing with this family member, was to pick up the pieces and deprogram them gently.
You think to yourself: “this wouldn’t happen to me because I’m way too smart. I make educated decisions.” But, near as I can tell, smart has nothing to do with it.
Brainwashing works on how open the subject is to modifying the way they think, and their need to be accepted in their new group. I guess it’s like training a dog: good stimulus equals a reward, bad behavior earns a punishment, either physical or mental.
The subject must also think that their previous way of thinking was sub-par. They must have a low opinion of their intelligence.
Of course, a lot of you guys and gals may already know how it works, or heard about it on a documentary.
It’s different to have a front row seat to, though. Really surreal.
Right now, I have a family member that I am not close to, he is being manipulated hard by his current girlfriend. I see all the signs of what she is doing, it ain’t my first rodeo.
I tell his daughter, “I will do what I can to help, but I can’t talk to him. He doesn’t like me. The only way he can be saved is you and your brother get together and see if you can get some physical distance to happen between this woman and your dad.”
So far - everything we’ve predicted has come true: she’s bled him dry, financially. He went from having a nest egg to selling off all his assets. He has signed on to buy property and vehicles with her. She made him lose his job.
What’s next? His daughter cares for him, but he wasn’t a model dad by a long shot.
So I don’t know what to do there.
And just recently, another family member washed up on my shores. This one is young.
The brainwashing in this case is mental and physical abuse.
In this case, I created a team of three people to work together to help this person see who they are really with.
My job is to create a safe zone for them. Another’s job is to be there and be the person all the secrets are told to. And the last person is supposed to be the persuader, the person who helps this family member stick to plans, to say what is expected without being pushy or negative, so that they don’t go back to the old life.
One of the people on the team said to me, “How are we all talking about this so calmly?” The subject of the conversation was sitting right there in the room. I said, “I know, it’s surreal. But this is how we have to do it. We are going to solve this.”
Delicately stepping, delicately stepping.
I think to myself, had I washed up on my mother’s shores with a problem like this, she would have kicked me back out and said, “Figure it out for yourself, I’m not going to help you. It’s your problem.”
I always knew I was on my own, and I can’t say I didn’t screw things up royally from time to time.
But, also, I know that had I had help, maybe things could have been better for me later. I’ll never know. I still don’t know the answer.
I choose to help. I choose to take my emotional side and shove it in the back, and then find out the chinks in the opponent’s armor.
He may have a lot going for him, but it is not my family member’s job to fix him, to make him a better person. He could be the most brilliant person in the world - but you can’t save some people from themselves. He is harmful, and nightmarish.
Battered person syndrome. It’s another form of brainwashing, where the woman/man doesn’t think they should leave, because there are all these good things about the partner that, if they could just change, would make them the perfect life partner.
I’m beginning to think it doesn’t matter if it is drugs, or being beaten and having Stockholm Syndrome - it’s all a form of brainwashing.
I’m lucky enough to have a good team to work with me.
I was thinking today, as I was still coughing and getting over this horrible sickness I’ve had for three weeks: I’m tired. I don’t want to deal with nonsense but I will because that’s what family does.
We are blessed, no matter what. I’m feeling lucky. I’m glad I’m here for it.
I know my mom would have handled it differently (she had to go through it herself). But, I don’t think life should be so fucking hard. If we work together we can do a job better. No one should have to go through these things alone.
You lift up the next generation so they can climb the mountain a little more. I just want people to get further than I did.

I have an 90lbs pitbull, and I want to tow him around in a bike trailer behind the e-bike. So the bike must be powerful enough to help me do that, even uphill sometimes.
I’m limited on space so I need a bike that can fold to a compact size. We are traveling around to different national parks, so I need a bike that is equipped with different speeds to manage sometimes rougher terrain.
I want to take advantage of the pedal assist function so I can go father and faster then walking. Maybe 60mi range, but the higher the range the better, I think.
I’m also broke, so I’m either going to be buying an e-bike used on Facebook marketplace, or I find a model that’s under $1000.
I would really appreciate: • bike model recommendations • what to look out for when purchasing a used e-bike, to avoid scams • any other information that would be useful to somebody who has no idea about bikes or e-bikes

 | I don’t know where to start. My routine’s all over the place, but I make sure to wash my hair with sulfate-free shampoos or co-washes every 4 days, I detangle weekly, I try to not to dye it as often anymore, or tie it with one of those cord ponytails when it’s dry enough. I also use certain oils that help prevent it from getting too dry and kinda helps with growth. My main problems are: I don’t know whether my hair’s more on the curly side, the kinky side, or both. I suffer from breakage and shedding, but I think that’s mainly because I made a bad habit out of tiring my hair before bed when it’s only 75% dry, so I switched to just wearing satin lined hats and bandanas. I used to have a harder time getting good definition with certain products, but now that’s only a problem that comes up occasionally, (rice water helps define it the most). I don’t know if I require a curly cut, but probably need one due to be embarrassing with the noticeable length difference compared to the top and the bottom (which is another reason I used to wear tied up/back all the time), I rarely have any photos of me wearing it down because it’s that noticeable. The only advice I’d been given is to wear more protective styles and keep using my oils, but I need a better plan for when I get out of that. There is some bad news afoot for workers. Labor’s share of the US gross domestic product has been falling for a long time, by seven percentage points since World War II. The labor share for 2022 — depending on exactly which measure is used, it comes in at slightly more than 60% — is the lowest measured since 1929.
And it’s not just America. Globally, the labor share, which is the fraction of an economy’s output that goes to workers, has declined by six percentage points since 1980. The numbers suggest that the share of labor is declining in 13 of the 16 wealthiest countries in the world.
Note that is a share, and very often real wages still are rising. Still, why this regularity?
One possible explanation for labor’s declining share is simply that the cost of capital has been falling for decades in most countries. That development benefits capital income very directly: It’s cheaper to raise capital, which benefits workers only indirectly. Of course, with real interest rates higher recently, it will be possible to test whether the labor share of income will make a comeback. In any case, this stands as one of the most plausible hypotheses.
Globalization and automation are two other trends that may have made labor markets more competitive, at least as compared to capital markets. Yet it is not obvious why those forces would lower labor returns more than capital returns. Is labor more mobile internationally than capital? Even if you think US companies have benefited from buying cheap manufactured goods from China and then reselling them at the expense of US workers, that doesn’t explain why labor’s declining share has been so widespread across countries and decades. If globalization were the culprit, labor’s share should be rising in China and other major exporting countries — but the opposite is true.

I hate being as meticulous as I am. I know that eventually I'll stop caring as much since this is my DD. Anyway, I picked up the Adam's Advanced Graphene Ceramic Coating kit on Amazon. Luckily, it was on sale for $107.97. Now it looks like it's back over $150. Picked up my new TR last month. Polished her up with Sonax Perfect Finish since there were the typical micro scratches here and there. Applied Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant. Smacked some bugs on the way to work and by the time I got home to wipe them off, I noticed some of the bug guts had penetrated through the sealant and clearcoat, leaving etching. The next day we had heavy rain. Came out of work to see the sealant had all come up and was a dark yellowy, gooey mess. It then it dawned on me that the bottle I used was about 5 years old and the product was likely no good anymore, despite me storing it inside the house. Should've took a Mississippi second to think about this before using it. Time flies and I'm only human; I make mistakes. The etching was definitely embedded into the clearcoat of the front bumper. Polishing didn't work. Stepped up to Sonax CutMax with a Lake Country orange pad. Didn't work. Broke out the 5000 grit sandpaper, wetsanded, CutMax/orange and then Perfect Finish/white. Etching gone. These bugs must've eaten straight battery acid; they weren't even on the paint long. Next was a strip wash. For 2 hours. Prepped the car with Adam's Prep and went to town on the application. I had never done a ceramic coating prior to this. I figure if I mess it up, I have all of the equipment to start over. It wasn't difficult but to ensure it was done right took me some time. I went slow at first until I got a feel for how long the product took to flash/set. Application was about 2 hours. Gloss/shine is similar to most other high quality waxes/sealants I've used in the past on my other cars. The benefits being the extreme hydrophobicity, protection and longevity. I'm happy with the results. I do have a small high spot on the hood that I must've missed. Near impossible to see unless lighting is right and I turn/tilt my head like an owl. I'll polish it down next weekend and reapply some ceramic. Also, I didn't get around to applying it to the cladding yet. Not too bad for my first ceramic coat. Snapped a few photos before work. Anxious to break out the DSLR to get better shots. |

Well, my son turned 16, and every year the last five years all he ever asked was for a cat. So he got two cats for his birthday 🥳. Brother and sister. They turn seven months old and Both are getting fixed in two weeks. Wish it was sooner but the vet where I live always is so full it takes months to get pets in if not an emergency.
Anyway, how do we make it not stink?
He paid $300 for a self cleaning litter box because they were so picky that if their box was not clean, they were peeing in my tortoise enclosure. They love their box, and use it well. But boy does that room stink.
It gets raked after each use and poo goes into a compartment. It is completely cleaned out and changed weekly!
We use pretty kitty litter or the kind that came with the Pet Safe litter box. He sprinkles, baking soda in it daily. And there’s airflow to his room. He washes bedding weekly. He does a full sweep and mop weekly.
They eat dry food only. They do steal dry dog food. 🤣🙄
What are we doing wrong? Is it because our male is still intact, or the female? Will this stop once they are fixed. Is the stink always there?

2024.05.14 08:12 cuteee2shoes If you have had surgery, injections, PT, etc, and still have lots of joint pain, PLEASE look into manual manipulation (sports massage, manual therapy to break up scar tissue, etc). Your residual pain could be due to conditions like adhesions or bone spurs, which can be extremely painful.
Just felt a (likely) bone spur dislodge from my right hip (33F-bilateral total arthroplasty and iliospoas tendon release surgery, right leg). Nearly six years to the date today, I have been in some form of crippling pain, having trained for a 10k-had left total hip arthroplasty in 2016, left in 2019, and an iliopsoas tendon release on the right in 2023. Did 3 rounds of PT throughout 2029-2023.
I have RA, a connective tissue disease, attacking an injured connective tissue overlying my hip; thus, the constant inflammation creates an environment for bone spurs (which I’ve had prior to my tendon release surgery).
Following some advice on the hips subreddit, I decidedly randomly today to consciously activate the muscle opposing the psoas (glute)-I felt a pop at the “back end” and the “hip end” of my psoas muscle followed by nearly instant relief and mobility I hadn’t had in SIX YEARS.
I will add that leading up to today, over the past six weeks, I have done (2) hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions; six sports massage sessions; foam rolling; and “Thera-Gun-ing” (due to a recent move with lots of physical demands on my body). I’ve also used Gua-sha and manual self-massage of my hip to break up scar tissue.
I say all this as many practitioners don’t emphasize these options (if standard PT and conservative treatments don’t help after a major procedure / surgery). Yet, I found MASSIVE relief and mobility, six years later, greatly accelerated once I started massage-related techniques. I’m just so grateful, as I thought I would never get better; I want others to know that they can, too. Don’t give up-you don’t have to settle for miserable!

Hello everyone, I'm hoping I used the right flair.
I had major bottom Transgender surgery 5 months ago and have been in and out of the hospital with complications. UTIs and skin issues in a nutshell without being too graphic. I am a Transgender man and use he/him pronouns.
I had new skin issues pop up and then a really bad fall and hit my head on bedframe. I went to a hospital I never went to before this month and only had 30 minutes of sleep in over 2 days. My mother hit me over the head with a frying pan for daring to fall into the floor of a dilplated trailer while trying to put a Thanksgiving turkey in the fridge while my leg was still in the floor. My sister used her guitar to wake me up right after falling asleep and threatened me with a gun. My mom abused my father. My dad was sometimes abusive to me but he was who I was closest to. Outside the household, I was closest to my maternal grandmother - we bonded over books and love of cats. She was the only one I kept in contact with after moving to a different state and my father who died at the same time. She died 6 years ago of cancer.
Had severe panic attacks and multiple bouts of vomiting due to the things in the hospital. Ended up leaving against medical advice because I felt that my mental health was at more risk and not being able to sleep was starting to make me see things. Kept seeing and feeling like my cat was jumping on my bed. Will likely be the one and only time I left AMA. Knew there was other hospitals who I could go to and had options. I went home for few days and got some sleep and take care of my cat. Now back in the ER and took an Uber, so I knew what hospital I would go to.
