I am currently in lead/principal role and have not needed portfolio for a while (not beyond simple presentation deck) but recently was asked for interview for which I did somehow nicer one but still just effective conveyor of information without frills. It did not workout mostly because mis alignment of expectations.
So I was thinking it was about time I move out country and try something else. So I started doing some designs and while not bad when I looked on it it was just keep coming up only "good" or boring - not bad but you know not enough for this level of experience. I realised I kinda got deformed by working in automotive industry chanting usability safety mantra I kinda stopped being creative visually - which was shocking as early of my career was being visual exploration machine.
Did anyone else experienced this decline due to more leadership role and producing more systematic designs? Any tips and tricks for someone who wants to practice but kinda dont want to do the usual fake tasks around the internet - they just generally dont offer much of a depth or interesting target audience or hardware. Currently I am scavenging failed old pitches and proposals and trying to take them further but eventually. Of course the case studies
I was thinking it would be awesome if there was easily reachable volunteer opportunities or early stratups that would let you practice for free or cheap or whatever without much commitment. Anyone wants to starts HMI related usability focused design system and principles side gig maybe?

Hi, I had to take out a 15 grand loan recently due to repairs i needed done to my home, which i own outright. The problem is, and yes, this is indeed a problem I should have been seeing and acknowledging all along, I accumulated debt from all these little, fiddly Credit union loans I have been getting for the last 8 years, since I opened an account in 2016. Without a historical statement I cant accurately tell you the exact loan history, but for example It would have been the likes of: 2016, €2,000 car loan. 2018, €1,500 personal loan. ect ect..there would have been a few more. Most recently, €10,000 personal loan in 2022, €5,000 in 2023, and now this loan, €15,000. I looked at the credit agreement, the payback amounts ect, and while the repayment is a little steep, there is a reason for that; I owe a total now of €61,000. I have no mortgage, no kids, live alone and work for the HSE on a permanent, full-time contract. This is the only debt I have, but given the fact that I dont really have anything to show for it except a crappy old car, a new bed, some furniture, holiday memories and now an additional 15k that I HOPE to spend wisely on home improvements, It feels massive. Please no harsh judgements, you cant say anything that i haven't bashed myself over the head with a million times over. My father died a horrible death from Pulmonary Fibrosis in Jan 2022 and my mother died from Covid, first wave in March 2020, at least we think it was, she died from pneumonia very suddenly and it was a huge shock. State of the consumer Are U.S. consumers finally tightening the purse strings? That's the main question on the minds of investors as major retailers kick off their quarterly earnings reports this week, starting with Home Depot (HD). The home improvement chain's Q1 results came in below Street expectations, hurt by a delayed start to spring, continued softness in certain larger discretionary projects, and higher mortgage rates.
Dig deeper: Retailer earnings come at a time when consumer sentiment is weakening, amid expectations of stickier inflation for some time to come and a tempered outlook for income growth. Investing Group Leader Bret Jensen believes stagflation is an increasingly likely economic scenario. "Right now, I believe the average American consumer has a better handle on the U.S. economy than the average investor and a better take on the true level of inflation than governmental statistics."
Scott Feiler, consumer sector specialist at Goldman Sachs, said the consumer spending concerns have been driven by updates by bellwethers in the sector, and the notable slowdown seen in April - one of the worst months of the retail quarter. Sustained weight loss Patients who are taking Novo Nordisk's (NVO) blockbuster obesity drug Wegovy have reportedly maintained an average of 10% weight loss four years after starting the treatment. "We see that once the majority of the weight loss is accrued, you don't go back and start to increase weight if you stay on the drug," said Martin Holst Lange, Novo's head of development. The data could help Novo in its efforts to convince insurers and governments to provide coverage for the treatment. The U.K.'s National Health Service provides only two years of Wegovy coverage, while Medicare does not cover the drug. Resisting takeover Anglo American (OTCQX:AAUKF) has unveiled a major shakeup of the company - which includes divesting its steelmaking coal and nickel businesses - as the British miner aims to stave off BHP's (BHP) takeover bid. Anglo American will demerge Anglo American Platinum (OTCPK:ANGPY), while its diamond business De Beers will either be divested or demerged "to improve strategic flexibility." Power grid boost The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved two new rules Monday that are expected to make it easier to expand the construction of big power lines and bring more renewable energy to U.S. homes and businesses. One rule will require companies that produce and transmit electricity to weigh factors such as supply and demand over at least 20 years; the other addresses the permitting of critical projects in areas that lack adequate transmission capacity. Had someone try to scam me via phone call last night.
They posed as an employee from Uber saying that they were calling because a rider made a complaint that “I was not the same person in the picture and that they needed to verify some information”. He then started to ask me some questions that didn’t seem too off but could, indeed, be used to verify my account (-relatively new driver here; 3 weeks ish). Asked to verify my contact email on the account, what method of payment I have on my account (card linked, routing etc), and was oddly very sympathetic. I had explained how odd it is that someone would complain because I look the same in the photos and only had one rider at that time (thunderstorms previously) and that conversation was very cordial and the pax seemed really friendly. The scam caller seemed very sympathetic and basically was like “yea, sometimes people do these things to get a free ride”.
Right before he had called, I also had accepted a new ride request and was on the way to the pickup. When I answered the scammers phone call, I mentioned that I was en route to a rider and he said “no don’t pay attention to that, that was us sending you a fake pickup to initiate verification and that wi would be paid for my time on the phone verifying. I never gave my bank acct routing info or acct info but there were a series of questions where he said “I’m going to send you a code, can you confirm it” and then I noticed a message that my PayPal password had been changed. First obvious red flag 🚩. He then asked me to confirm the amount of money in my bank account so that he could send reimbursement money as well as a bonus amount of $150. Red flag #2🚩 I said, the numeric amount of my checking account should have nothing to do with applying any monies into my account. At this, he started losing his composure “look, just verify it so that we can deposit the ($75 -previously $150 red flag 🚩 #3 and your account will be verified and you can continue driving”. At that point I knew for sure it was a scam and said, “how many people have you tried scamming already?” And he hung up.

I was flying for work today, ended up getting through security screening and having lunch faster than I'd expected, so I had a few hours before boarding. Settled in a comfy chair, noise cancelling headphones in, Netflix on my phone, all was set to chill out and kill some time.
I'd been there about half an hour before even through the ANC headphones I heard a screeching sound and saw a flurry of movement. Wouldn't you know it, the culprit was (of course) a Boomer. Karen haircut, dyed blonde clearly over grey, toothpick arms and legs with that weird fat belly, and a face that would curdle milk while it was still in the cow.
A new mother was flying with her baby interstate (from overhearing the intrusive conversation, 6 weeks but also premature). Baby young enough and I'm guessing had some health issues as a paediatric nurse was taking care of the baby, in uniform, complete with medical bag and bagged containers with milk for the baby. Mother was clearly nervous and watching baby and nurse closely, though the nurse clearly had everything under control. In other words, the very picture of a time and place that you leave people alone and give them space, courtesy and privacy... If you aren't a Boomer at any rate.
Boomer had arrived at the gate, seen the nurse with baby and the mother, made this ungodly screeching and launched herself as fast as her legs would carry her body towards the scene. The nurse skillfully deflected the advance by turning her back and placing the child hidden behind her on the chair, so Boomer launched into an invasive series of questions to the poor mother, delving deep into highly inappropriate/personal questions that the mother clearly didn't want to answer. Meanwhile through this Boomer is tottering on her feet, literally swaying back and forth towards the baby and nurse, which the nurse continued to shield with her body.
After around 10 minutes of this, she finally retreated all of 20 paces to a standing desk/bench nearby, continuing to stare and do the weird swaying/tottering like she was barely containing herself from running back over. She continued to stand there for the next 15 minutes like this, until the nurse had to change the baby... At which point she launched herself back over, screeching again something incomprehensible, and started trying to PUSH the NURSE out of the way!
Having been keeping an eye on the situation, I got up, took the few steps to her and yanked the back of her shirt and pulled her away a few steps with a loud "what in the hell do you think you're doing?!". Cue sputtering and whining/moaning about how the nurse was "doing it wrong" and "only trying to help" and "can't expect a young person to get these things right". I continued walking her away from the baby/nurse/mother a few more steps before security was on the scene taking over, taking the boomer by the flabby arms and marching her off. Boomer continued to screech and carry on, trying to pull away and back to the baby.
Mother looked terrified, nurse was clearly unsettled but handling everything well (serious amounts of respect to her, if she reads this: well done. You're an absolute legend). A third security guard came up and asked me to take a seat for a moment, checked on the mothenurse/baby, before the other two returned having handed the crazy boomer off to federal police a few gates away. Drinks (I'm assuming coffee/tea by the cups) were brought for the mothenurse, one security guard asking me what had happened which I relayed while I'm guessing the same was done for the nurse/mother. Sat for a bit before the security guards helped them move elsewhere (a lounge maybe? Private room?) and federal police arrived to take a statement from me and collect crazy boomers bag. Even the cops looked weirded out by the whole situation, with lots of shaking of the head and WTF faces.
All in all, everything was sorted out reasonably quickly considering, and only had another half hour to wait before catching my flight. The troubling part is that other than it being in an airport and there being a nurse involved? Boomers do this crap all the time! They see a baby and suddenly they have to interject themselves, with zero consideration for whether their comments and questions are appropriate, act incredibly entitled, take zero interest in whether the parent is uncomfortable, and generally act as though because there is a baby they have free pass to be complete d###s.

About 2 days ago (at the time of writing) there was a post on rant titled 'Why did you haven ruin it Rowling? And why won't you please just stop?' talking about how JKR's transphobic views ruined HP for younger generations, and unsurprisingly, there was a shit ton of transphobia in the comments, ranging from ignorant nostalgia blind millennials to literal bigots. These were the top comments, btw. Any reply agreeing with OP's statement or calling out other people in the thread for their bigotry was downvoted to hell. Mine included.
What makes this even worse is that the mods didn't do shit for 2 days! And even then, only the non-bigoted comments were removed! I was banned just because I condemned the mods for sitting on their asses and twiddling their thumbs.
It's crazy that they even let any of the TERF shit fly, cause they have multiple rules stating that
