Craftsman eager 1 lawn mower 6.75hp

2 acres with some steep(ish) slope

2024.05.14 20:22 tippytappity 2 acres with some steep(ish) slope

hey all hoping for some help sourcing a robotic mower (or multiple ones?). We've bought a couple acres and move in soon. Right now the grass is long (3-4" in some places). A few questions:
- what are the best options on the market right now for a lawn that size? The only I see are like $8k CAD for that size; would it be better to get 2 that have a 1 acre range?
- with the grass that high, would it be best to mow with a ride on in advance?

TIA

2024.05.14 19:49 THSdrummer8 Lowe's LM2135 vs LM2135SP

Lowe's currently has the LM2135 marked for ~$499 prior to taxes and fees. This includes the 7.5 Ah battery and charger. Ego's website doesn't show this model, but instead the typical LM2135SP.
Is anyone familiar with the LM2135 (not SP)? Is this a legit model? Is this an error on Lowe's part?
FWIW, Lowe's website lists this one as "EGO POWER+ Select Cut 56-volt 21-in Cordless Push Lawn Mower 7.5 Ah (1-battery and charger included)". Reviews also list self propel feature, but it's entirely possible customers reviewed the incorrect model number. Lowe's chat associate said it is the LM2135SP, but I'm still leery they may be uninformed in that statement.

2024.05.14 18:08 Gwenevre Mower recommendation, uneven lot

Mower recommendation, uneven lot
I’m looking for a mower recommendation. I have a 1/4 acre urban residential lot, uneven ground in addition to my dog’s digging holes. Also large trees with exposed roots. My last mower (Craftsman M110 from Lowe’s) hit either a rock or a root and it completely destroyed the flywheel and other internal components.

I'd love to try! 🐢
I might have access to a yard soon, and, if the landlord permits, I'd love to add something like this. However, I have questions and considerations.
  1. Is this even advised or feasible in hardiness zone 6b?
  2. Where would you find the rocks? I know a guy who can find the shell ones, but he can't find the legs, head, or tail.
  3. How would you go about actually installing this? I'd love for the lawn mower to be able to go over them without trouble.
  4. Would you plant anything specific around it?
  5. Would you put it anywhere specific on the property?
I don't know what I don't know, so please tell me if I'm overlooking something!
Thank you!

No good deed goes unpunished
So I moved into a house about 2 months ago and did not have a lawn mower for a month of that time. My yard was about 3 feet tall of weeds and so was my neighbors. When I got my first ever brand new lawn mower I took care of my yard and also took care of my neighbors, because I wanted to be a good neighbor I turned down the offer of money and beer simply because the act of being nice was repayment enough. I noticed they had a steel cable about 1/2 thick in their yard it was a bike lock. I tried to pull it out but was unable to. Now mind you the grass/weeds where really really tall 3 feet no joke.
I was mowing my yard yesterday and the same neighbor whos lawn I mowed came over and asked to borrow my BRAND new mower. I told him I would gladly do it one more time for him.. But he said he rather do it himself.. I thought no big deal. I was working on building a fence while he was mowing and I heard a loud noise then the mower stopped. It started up again a few seconds later.. I told him to just leave the mower in front of my garage and it looked like the pic when he returned it.
I saw him after he was done mowing and he didn't say a thing. Then I notice the steel cable in the yard no longer in the ground.. This SOB had his head in the sand and just blindly ran the damn thing over. And there is NO WAY he didn't notice it. It stopped the mower and the damage is plain as day I noticed it the second I looked at the mower.. He is a renter and will be staying in the house for the next year so I don't want to cause any petty issues..
what would you all do?
My plan is ts simply tell him " your yard is too hard on mowers" next time he asks to borrow it.

2024.05.14 04:25 singerbeerguy Is a 10ah battery enough to mow 1/3 acre?

I’m shopping for an Ego self propelled mower and trying to figure out how much battery I need. My lawn is just about 1/3 acre with hills. It typically takes me 1:15 to mow with my current mower. Is a 10ah battery enough or do I need a 12ah?

  1. What is the average temperature of a typical summer and winter day where you live?
Additional Information and Questions
25) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant.
Since he's not crate trained, I've made the kitchen on our first floor his hangout spot. I can leave him there by himself for hours while I work upstairs. I keep an eye on him through a camera all day. His routine usually involves a morning walk for his bathroom break, some fetch in the afternoon to tire him out, another walk in the evening, and sometimes I let him loose in the backyard for a bit.
Now, I'm thinking of getting him a buddy so he's got someone to hang out and play with. I've been eyeing black Cane Corsos because I love their look, but I'm worried they might be too big for us.
26) Feel free to ask any questions below.
I'm looking for a dog just a tad larger than a Shiba Inu, preferably black and guard-looking like a Cane Corso, and one that can get along with my Shiba. Any breeds you'd suggest I check out and research? What about the American Staffordshire Terrier (AmStaff)?

In ground sprinkler planning
I’m planning out my in ground sprinkler system (I was going to use the RainBird online services but I can’t wait 30+ days). I have some questions as well as what I’m planning to do. I have 3 acres but am only wanting to in ground the area immediate to my house and guest cabin.
Q- should I put the PRV before I tee off into my zones from here? Or should I put a PRV after teeing off (effectively 1 PRV per zone, probably will only be 2 zones at this location)?
Q- should I put in an inline filter? The water still comes out clear but I know some sediment gets in there.
Q- the standard nozzle is the number 8, what nozzles come with it?
Q- how durable are in ground sprinklers? I have a riding lawn mower as well occasionally will drive on the grass for yard work etc…will they break if accidentally run over?
My property is sloped the entire way from my “source” down, is this a concern? (About 1 foot over an 8 foot level)
Any tips/tricks for trenching? (Besides renting a trencher of course)
Anything I am missing?

2024.05.13 22:51 D3s3rtpaw My Brother’s obsessive use of the computer is starting to consume his life negatively and we don’t know what to do to help him, as he needs it. We need advice.

I hope this is the right subreddit, flair, and has a reasonable length. If it doesn’t, please tell me and I’ll change it to fit the requirements.
My younger brother (16m), let’s call him Nathan (false name), is currently having a ton of issues and my family and I (17m) feel like we have played all of our cards and don’t know what else we can do for him. Nathan has Bipolar I, ADHD, dyslexia, and even though he isn’t professionally diagnosed, we suspect he also has Autism. He is currently on medication for his Bipolar but he isn’t on any for his ADHD. He also gets seizures when he becomes too stressed. He is on a DUI at school and has a lot of support there regarding teachers and faculty. He used to have a psychologist but they terminated him for stupid reasons that he had no control over. He has been in the mental hospital before back in elementary, as he used to be much worse back then. He also has a background of violence (his violence would only be directed to me and our Mother(40f), but he hasn’t been violent for 3-4 years). He also has done self-harm in the past, but they were pretty minor. Nathan and I also have no insurance but we are about to get on our Mother’s plan. Nathan also has ways of coping and knows what to do if he becomes too angry, but I feel like there could be more that could be done. We live in a household with 7 people. We live with our Papa (Mother’s Dad) and his twin brother, who sleep in the living room, Grandma and Grandpa (Papa’s parents) who sleep in the master bedroom as they own the house, our Mother, who sleeps in her own room, and Nathan and I, who share a room. We also have one dog. Okay, now to the issue.
Nathan has lately been on the computer 24/7 and we feel it has negatively affecting him and he simply is unable to see it like that. We feel that the computer has begun to consume his life. He spends all day and night talking to his online friends playing Minecraft with them. He communicates with them on discord and has constantly communicating with them. He has been spending all night talking to them even though he should be going to sleep for school and has been struggling getting up to get ready for school and been falling asleep at school. He has been saying that he has been struggling going to sleep at night and believes he has insomnia (our family has a history of insomnia). I believe his sleeping issues is a result of his computer use. Before, he never really struggled going to sleep but now he has been having a ton of issues doing so. I won’t be surprised if he has/started to have insomnia because of this. As a result of the obsessive computer use, he has begun having back-lashes on not just our Mother, but our Grandma (we currently live with our Grandma and Grandpa), which isn’t good for her health.
He doesn’t know how to be quiet on the computer, especially at night. He is loud and often yells while on it. Our Papa and Mother can hear him at night. It has started to become a really serious issue. I’ve been professionally diagnosed with Insomnia and struggle falling asleep. Nathan’s inability to be quiet at night has started to affect my ability to sleep. I’ve used to being able to ignore it pretty well, but it has become a very serious issue lately and I have been having a very hard time falling asleep for school. I also won’t be surprised if it has also started to affect Papa’s ability to sleep as well, as he is right next to our door as we are right outside the living room.
His online friends aren’t much better. Him having online friends isn’t abnormal at all, but his current online friends I feel aren’t good for him. They actively encourage him to stay up all night with them (they are all around the same age as Nathan, or at least that is what they say). Nathan often falls asleep while on call with them, and they regularly wake him up, as they don’t want him falling asleep on them. He has an online girlfriend, in which to my knowledge she is the only one who is trying to get him to sleep at night (in which he refused to do so). He has been hanging out with them too much, as he isn’t just neglecting his real life friends but his older online friends too (in which I prefer a whole lot more than his current ones, which he became friends with 1-3 weeks ago). He used to be more active and hang out with his real life friends often, but he wants to stay inside 24/7 now and doesn’t hang out with his real life friends outside of school anymore. He is way too naive and too trusting of his online friends. As a result, he is easy to take advantage of. One example of this was that several of his friends apparently had a house in our city and Nathan wanted to get a job so he can help pay for the house (I don’t think they even showed evidence that this house was actually real). Our Mother luckily cut down that idea immediately. He is also surrounded by people who are suicidal online, which isn’t good for his mental health at all.
On top of neglecting his real life friends, he is also neglecting his family. He is really close to our Mother and I. He used to watch anime with our Mother, but he no longer does so. Nathan and I also used to watch anime together, play games together, and chat but we barely do any of that stuff anymore. He also would be eager to go out of the house with family but he no longer wants to. He either wants to hang out with his friends or is too tired to do so. Recently, he didn’t go to our cousin’s graduation and even my induction ceremony for National Honor Art Society because he was too tired. It also has been months since he went to our other cousins house as he is either too tired or wants to stay home (she isn’t our actual blood cousin, but we see each other as such. Nathan is really close to her as well). I admit I’m obsessed with my phone, but I know when I need to put it down and it hasn’t consume my life like it has Nathan. I’m an introvert and I don’t prefer going outside of the house, but I have been going outside the house with our Mother quite often. Nathan used to do the same but he no longer wants to.
With all this information, you may be wondering why we haven’t taken away the computer yet. There is a reason on why we haven’t. This is because if we did, he will become violent. If he does continue going on the computer at night, our Mother will take away the computer at night. Nathan knows this. She also is wanting to turn off the internet at night and before he goes to school, but we don’t know if we could do that just yet. One manipulative and toxic thing he does, which is extremely unhealthy, is that if our Mother threatens him with punishment, Nathan threatens his own life to try to get out of the punishment. This never works on our Mother as she knows these are hollow threats and she used to do the same (actually she used to be much worse and actually attempted suicide before. I don’t think Nathan even has the will for suicide) so she knows the signs and how to deal with the situation. I think he does this since he is constantly surrounded by people threatening their lives online, he now sees this as normal. Since he sees this as normal, he has begun doing the same to not just our Mother but other people (I’m guessing he learned to do this as he probably seen this work before with his friends doing the same).
All of this cumulated into Monday morning. The day before, Nathan was asleep all day and was up all night on the computer. He was being so loud that I had a very hard time falling asleep and it began to annoy me incredibly. I don’t know when he fell asleep but it’s obvious he stayed up all night, even though he knew we were going to school in the morning. We usually get up around one hours before school starts to get ready. This is also when he gets his medicine. When it was time to go, Nathan was still asleep in his pajamas. I couldn’t get him to wake up, and our Grandma had to be the one to wake him up (our Mother was at work). Our Grandpa had to drop me off at school without him, go back home, and then drop him off to school (we go to the same school). He was hard on our Grandma, in which I assume it took a little while to finally convince him to get up and get ready for school. This is incredibly stressful for our Grandma and is definitely not good for her health. As a result of this, it simply became too much for all of us and we need to find a way to get him help.
The Mental Hospital is our very last option, and we don’t want this at all. We simply don’t know what else we can do for him, as he needs help. Is their other methods/ways we can use to help him or is the mental hospital our only option? Btw, no methods/ways/punishments that include any sort of violence, as this won’t help him at all and he will retaliate back with more violence (our Mother is a lot more stronger than Nathan and she has incredibly hard punches. She has never punched Nathan before, but she has slapped him. Even though our Mother doesn’t like this, she will defend herself against Nathan if she ever needs to do so. She’ll never throw the first punch but she won’t hesitate to throw hands back. On the other hand, I’m incredibly weak and will fold like a lawn chair.)
tl;dr, My younger brother’s computer use has started to consume his life negatively in all aspects and we don’t know what else to do, as he simply refuses to see it like that.

tl;dr, My younger brother’s computer use has started to consume his life negatively in all aspects and we don’t know what else to do, as he simply refuses to see it like that.

2024.05.13 22:23 Zookeeper4116 Absolute garbage

To start I used to be all for craftsman. I had handtools, power tools, even gloves. Within the past year I bought an electric mower and electric weed eater. (I got duped by the "check out how great electric motor tech is now".)
The mower was ok at best but can't even cut a .2 acre yard on a full charge. The weedeater is garbage from day 1. It can't even handle a patch of crab grass.
I decide I'll at least need a gas weedeater. The gas weed eater just randomly stops working last week. I get it going again and it tosses the string won't hold a string at all now.
Yesterday I'm at work, I do refrigeration. I'm using my craftsman impact and it seems weird. I grab the top only to notice the handle is completely snapped off and is only being held by the rubber grip.
How did this company go from one of the best to being better used as a boat anchor? At this point I don't want the warranty I want to return this shit. I'll never buy a craftsman item again. If I won a craftsman tool set at this point I'd actually feel bad donating it because the poor sap that ended up with it doesn't deserve that headache.

2024.05.13 20:57 Obioban What max SoC for cycle longevity?

I recently bought a Delta 1260kwh and solar panel.
My plan for it is twofold: 1) day to day, leave it in my shed to...
a) charge tool batteries
b) open/close the garage door on the shed
c) run my pi RTK GPS server
d) operate a ridge vent fan if it gets overly warm in the shed
e) charge my (small) robot lawn mower
f) run a trickle charger on my full size lawn mower in the winter
g) motion activated LED lights in the shed
-all pretty low draw activities.
2) when I go overlanding, pull it and use it for that with a 100% starting SoC.
For day to day use, especially in winter, what should I set the max SoC to be to optimize for battery longevity? I don't think I'll ever be using very MUCH of the battery in a given day (mowing in the summer will be the heaviest load, but that's when I'll have the most sun to recharge it anyway), so I really just want to make it last as long as I can (in years of use).
Currently thinking a 60% upper limit with 20% lower limit, with the idea that it would mostly be operating in the 40-60% range.

2024.05.13 19:04 velospeed Why is it running like it’s almost out of gas ?

Just started my lawn mower for the first time this season, and it ran fine for 1-2 minutes, then started running as if it was out of gas. I just filled it before starting, but that gas sat in the container since last fall.

2024.05.13 17:29 tinuthir I want to smartify my outdoor sockets

Howdy all! I have four outdoor sockets which are so old that one of the plastic housings broke off from its screw (top left corner). Needless to say, they gotta go.
Now, that cable going away to the top simply powers a lamp with its own switch - ignore it, because it's going away anyway. The entire thing is a Frankenstein's Monster style problem that I want to make better. I'd appreciate any help I can get here! Located in Germany in case anyone wants to recommend hardware.
A few priors to be aware of:
  1. We need four sockets there.
Only one of them had anything plugged in there when I took the picture, but we routinely have three sockets occupied (a little fountain pump and a little LED chain of lights, neither of which are visible, and that thick black plug that powers a socket in our shed, for charging e-bikes - this is used rarely, but without it, the shed plug is dead). The fourth one is used for garden tools like our lawn mower or hedge clipper.
  1. I want at least two of those sockets to be smart. All four would also work fine, but I'm not picky.
Until that socket broke, I had outdoor zigbee smart plugs in there. Again, pretty Frankenstein.
  1. Behind the socket on the very right, there's one single set of wires coming out of the wall in a single cavity.
This means that, right now, that single live wire, that single neutral wire, and that single ground wire all power those four sockets. This shouldn't change.
  1. Local control!
When smartifying the entire setup, I want the sockets to be toggleable both via homeassistant and via dumb switches, so a proper local relay with some kind of switch is critical.
  1. The sockets are all outdoor, but under a roof.
Moisture won't be a problem, and temperatures rarely go below -10°C, which should also be within the limitations of most relays I've read about.
What's the plan now?
I have two ideas.
  1. Put a 4 gang relay/smart switch into the wall cavity. Wire one of those smart gangs to one outdoor-rated plug each. Pretty clean, each switch and socket can be labeled clearly, local control plus smarts. However, that single relay might run into stress when mowing the lawn while the a bike is charging in the shed and/or the fountain pump is running.
  2. Use clamps to take each of those wires to one outdoor rated socket-plus-switch thing, and stick either a shelly or a zigbee relay in there. This would take up more space on the wall for sure, and it'll also end up being more expensive. However, I would also avoid a bottle neck - one relay per switch/socket is much safer than that single relay for all four, right?
Happy to hear any and all of your thoughts :)

2024.05.13 16:04 MajorCatEnthusiast So freakin excited

So freakin excited
It just arrived, so I have to wait until after work to set him up. But I made it 5 steps on the manual lawn mower that my dad gifted me before I decided that we would be coming up with a different solution.

2024.05.13 12:00 AutoModerator Daily r/LawnCare No Stupid Questions Thread

Please use this thread to ask any lawn care questions that you may have. There are no stupid questions. This includes weed, fungus, insect, and grass identification. For help on asking a question, please refer to the "How to Get the Most out of Your Post" section at the top of the sidebar.
Check out the sidebar if you're interested in more information on plant hardiness zones, identifying problems, weed control, fertilizer, establishing grass, and organic methods. Also, you may contact your local Cooperative Extension Service for local info.
How to Get the Most out of Your Post:
Include a photo of the problem. You can upload to imgur.com for free and it's easy to do. One photo should contain enough information for people to understand the immediate area around the problem (dense shade, extremely sloped, etc.). Other photos should include close-ups of the grass or weed in question: such as this, this, or this. The more photos or context to the situation will help us identify the problem and propose some solutions.

2024.05.13 04:34 JAbremovic My dad pulled out my landscaping because "normal people don't put rocks in gardens. " (Tw: Ableism)

Tw: ableism.
Exactly what the title says. He's got that boomer fixation on lawns being mowed very short and drowned in round up the moment a single dandelion appears. A short, plain lawn is clearly inherently superior to front gardens, Japanese style gardens, wildflowers, food forests, or any other alternative.
Clover? Dandelions? Club mosses? Wild phlox? Signs of any living creature living in the grass? Round up, round up, round up. I went to school with gardening/botany in an agricultural settings as my undergrad. I really like it. I also have a permanent physical disability. So, needless to say I approach gardening a bit different. I like wild flowers, useful items not just there to be pretty, I don't mind it a little weedy.
I have to be ths way because if I'm having a a bad day with fatigue and pain, watering takes priority over weeding. In the gutter of my lawn, there is a rock garden, where the rainfall spout on the roof empties. It has small stones and gravel and has been replanted with annual pansies and marigolds each year. The season is young, and I hadn't got around to putting flowers in and weeding it yet.
I went out yesterday to do just that. I started a little the day before with the goal of taking big things out first and then weeding out small things and tap roots. Well, I wasn't fast enough for my dad.
Keep in mind- this is my house and he doesn't live here.
I walked out yesterday and he was randomly there- he'd dug all of the rocks, leveled out the natural slope that made the water flow into the street drain, took out some reseeding wild flowers , destroyed this little hollow spot where some wild ispods always hung out. There was dirt, weeds, and gravel all over the side walk.
He looks up at me and says, "The neighbors were complaining about the garden. Rocks don't belong in the garden. Normal people don't use them in gardens the way you do. It gets in the way of the lawn mower(???) and makes the round up gather in puddles(????). "
He went on to say that 'he knows about gardening just as much as I do' , that I was weeding it wrong and too slowly, that I was wearing the wrong footwear to do it, and that just because I'm disabled doesn't mean I have a right to a sloppy yard.
A few things.
  1. The neighbors absolutely did not say that.
  2. I won a local photography thing that is an analog macro of a marigold(for privacy reasons, I'm not putting it here) growing next to some rocks last year, in my "abnormal garden."
  3. I was wearing closed toe boots.
  4. My brother has been mowing my lawn for me for the last five years and has yet to ever complain about the rock garden.
  5. I'm not sure why anyone needs to be mowing inside of a clearly defined rock garden, which is less than a foot wide and at a lower elevation than the entire rest of the lawn. I'm not even sure how a lawn mower would fit.
  6. I don't like round up and don't own any.
  7. My father does not live here and doesn't pay for my rocks, flowers, landscaping, or anything else.
  8. He's been telling everyone on my street that my disability is an intellectual disability and that he "takes care of me." He does not live here. My disability is deformed joints.
Now, at this point, I was pretty upset. But I couldn't go thermonuclear because there was a loud outdoor kids' birthday party happening at my neighbor's house. The same people that my father claims hate my garden. Well, a few more of them arrived, and they stopped in their tracks halfway up their sidewalk and just stared with visibly upset looks on their faces. Especially since some of the dirt, rocks, weeds, and wild flowers had landed in their yard.
Well, I stayed calm and just stood there watching him dig. He does not like the grey rock response. He does not like when I answer with "OK, dad" to statements such as "I grew up om a farm, you're supposed to take rocks out, not put them in" in a 'talking to my idiot daughter ' voice. He got mad that I wasn't helping him or being grateful. Eventually, He got VERY mad and left.
I swept up the mess. He didn't throw out any of the rocks. He just left them in a big pile in my front lawn. I planted the pansies I bought and started putting all the rocks back. It's going to take a while.
The neighbor mom came out of her house when he was gone and said she thought my rock garden was and that she was sorry for what happened.
What the hell alternate reality are these people living in? Jesus fucking christ.

2024.05.13 01:08 Open-Art1748 My lawnmower keeps dying what to do?

My push mower is dying after start
I found a lawn mower on the side of the road and took it as I thought it’ll be a fun little project. I cleaned the carb and the jets inside all the main stuff. Now it starts but it bogs down after 5 seconds or so and dies. It’s a craftsman 159cc. I don’t know what to do next. The spark plug is dirty but it works and the mower fires up after a couple pulls. Sometimes trying to start it up the line just pulls itself back really hard and the air filter is in okay condition. Need advice thanks
