2024.05.14 11:59 And_be_one_traveler Ever noticed how often r/AITA and all the similar subreddits love to blame feminism for things it doesn't advocate for?

For example, when they talk about how paternity works legally and the susposed acceptance of cheating
Legal Paternity
It's usually the case around the world that if a wife has a child during their marriage, the husband is legally assumed to be the father. Even if everyone involves knows he isn't, and all want to change this, they may still have to go to court.
This is somehow blamed on feminism. Never mind that depending on a guy who resents being a father for child support can be worse than just relying on welfare. And nevermind that all the women who fled their abusive husbands would love to not give him custody rights (because, many abusers see getting custody of their kids as a way to hurt their mother).
So why did it come from?
Firstly, law codes were mostly developed before paternity tests were a thing. This is just a guess, but at least in the West, where it was usually men who controlled the couple's money, lawmakers likely didn't want their sisters and daughters left destitute by false claims of infidelity.
And at least partially it comes from the fact that the state doesn't want to pay benefits it can get a way with. Which also explains why almost no politicians will advocate against the assumption of paternity for the husband. Just paying for a few weeks of welfare until paternity tests came back for every man, and then hoping the men will all pay the state back, would increase the cost of the social welfare budget for little, if any, community gain. And social welfare is often a large part of a state's budget.
And of course, modern DNA tests have their own problems, like the ethics around the use of DNA given for other purposes to catch criminals. And who would pay for them, and some others.
Cheating
Literally no popular feminist work advocates this. You could argue works like the Scarlet Letter are trying to cast sympathy on women seen as cheaters, but even those are asking why women are being punished much more harshly than men. And if cheating should be a purely social wrong, rather than a legal one. Some thing goes for the Handmaid's tale, particularly the series rather than the novel, where June is the other woman, rather than dating an already divorced man as she does in the novel.
You'll see cheating accepted in some film and TV shows, but I don't think feminist films are more guilty of this than any other genre. Those that do usually protray the women as a victim of abuse by her spouse, however Hollywood does like to sometimes show affairs as romantic simply because the other partner is kind of annoying and the main couple belong together. However, these nearly always have a man willingly a part of the affair. Hollywood is very happy to show men cheating too and protray it as a good or kinda bad thing when it wants too (eg. Oppenheimer).
Thinking about the major feminists I've heard of, I think their responses to having constant affairs would vary.
So yeah, feminism does not equal screwing over men. But AITA-land likes to insist it does

2024.05.14 11:53 Gronfors NCL Early Disembarkment Experience

I struggled to find current information beforehand and thought I would share my experience for others searching for an answer.
We wanted to end our recent transatlantic cruise a day early in Le Havre instead of South Hampton in order to continue our vacation throughout France and Italy without wasting a day travelling back to France.
I called in to NCL three times and was consistently told that it could not be done, early disembarkment was never possible, and was illegal due to the Jones Act.
However, once on the boat I talked to guest services, mentally prepared to try and argue and plead my case and was met with a simple "Sure, just stop by the day before" and they took down my room number. I checked again the next day and they confirmed.
The day before early disembarkment we stopped by guest services again, provided copies of our passports and were told we'd get a letter in our room. Our NCL app also updated to reflect the reduced itinerary and the last day of gratuities were refunded.
We got the letter saying to meet France immigration at 8:15 the next morning which we did along with about 20 other people also getting off early. A short wait in line later we were cleared to leave and the officer requested we leave the ship by 12.
While exiting the ship we got crossed off a list and that was it.
It was a total breeze and while I understand they likely don't want to encourage it to make their lives easiemilk more money out of guests I just wanted to share it is easy and possible in my experience despite what the call center might say.
*Experience may vary, check out Jones Act for USA cruises, but my dad also successfully early disembarked in Victoria on a Seattle - Seattle Alaskan cruise)

Trait: Numerate

Talents: Language (High Valyrian) Cooking, Gardening
Negative Trait: N/A
Starting Title: Lord of Longtable
Starting Location: Opening Event
Biography:
It has been said; men grow tired of sleep, love, singing and dancing, sooner than war. As such, it begs the question, what does a man have left when he finally tires of war? In pursuit of an answer, of any answer, one half of Dorian Merryweather’s life was spent. He was the second son of Lord Arthor Merryweather of Longtable. Like many others born in a place of natural abundance, he longed for more, for something greater than a mere provincial estate. The tourneys of Highgarden, the hunts of Horn Hill and the books of Oldtown all called to him, and so he could never ride past his father’s mild and verdant fields fast enough. Dorian counted himself lucky not to be the heir, for that meant he could pick where his future lay, unchained from the uninspiring home of his childhood. Instead it was his older brother, Bennard, who envied his free-flying lifestyle, contriving any excuse to join him on his escapades and agurk lessons and ceremonies he ought to have attended.
Lord Arthor was fairly permissive of this deriliction of duties, as the friendships forced on such journeys were worth more than lessons that could be repeated later, or tasks that could be handed off to lowborn stewards. The boys attended tourneys, balls, hunts and feasts, living the life the bards extolled as the height of reachman’s chivalry. The one time they did not shirk their duties was when their father had the honor of hosting King Mern and his court for a tourney on the Warrior’s day. The Merryweather sons would present the king and his family with silver bowls of dilligrout, a most exquisite stew of capons, white wine and almond milk. They had the joy of tasting it once the Gardeners had their fill, a taste they would never forget. On the tournament field three days later, Mern knighted them both, though Dorian was only sixteen at the time, green as a knight could ever be.
Five years later, as news of Aegon Targaryen and his early conquests spread, the lords of the Reach were summoned to Goldengrove, where they found a veritable forest of Westermen’s banners being planted beside their own. The fall of the Storm Kings had led to a whirlwind of diplomacy between the houses of Gardener and Lannister. The plan was presented to the lords with the two kings sitting beside one another on the dais as though they were brothers. They held up Aegon’s letter of demands, scornfully reading it aloud and then proceeded to tear it up to a roaring acclamation from the hall. Standing there before the hall, Mern could hardly be called the Warrior incarnate. There stood a man well past his prime, old enough to be a grandfather and with no great victories to his name, in battle or on the tourney field. All the same, this man, whom they called their king, always seemed to know exactly what to say to win someone over. If he’d declared war on hell itself that evening, the Merryweather brothers would probably still have marched off with him when the next morning dawned. Bennard and Dorian shouted as loud as anyone, death to the foreign upstart. That evening were betrothed to westerwomen they’d never met before, made plans for a real battle, which they had never fought in before, and drank, ate and sang as though the night would last forever. House Merryweather was not able to secure a command, yet King Mern remembered his stay at Longtable fondly. He gave Bennard and Dorian a place in the vanguard, and even adorned Bennard with a brooch of the order of the green hand the morning before the army Goldengrove, a momentous honor which Bennard would cherish for the remainder of his days. He did not have many left, as it turned out. The Field of Fire began like a dream, as the two brothers rode off at the break of dawn, two out of five thousand sets of gleaming armor atop proud warhorses. By the end of the day it had become a nightmare. Caught up in the maelstrom of battle, Dorian did not see the moment when their loss was assured, but the Gods know he could hear it, the creeping, hungry flames that descended on the reachmen like an army of its own. As hundreds were broiled inside their steel plate and thousands more choked on the inferno’s horrible vanguard of black smoke, Bennard and Dorian broke and fled. They were not far behind the retreating Loren Lannister in their escape, but half a minute made all the difference. The lines of fire fanned out, hunting more living things to devour, and engulfed the two brothers. Dorian could feel how the flames spread from his surcoat to his undershirt, all the way down to the hairs on his chest, beginning to sear his skin. In a desperate act he threw himself in the Blackwater, and would have perished if not for the shoddy work of his squire that morning, which left him able to tear off his plate before he could sink. With bloodied, burn-marked fingers, he clung to the roots of a tree by the riverside, water up to his chest. He was retrieved after some time, how long he could not say. For the next two moons his mind was adrift, distracted from his pains by milk of the poppy. The next two were far worse, as he grew more lucid and realized the extent of the damage. A burn-mark stretched from his right thigh, all the way up his chest and left bicep to the apple of his neck. Many times over, flakes of dead or dying skin had to be peeled off by the maester as the scabs kept bursting with blood and clear liquid. By the end of that year he was able to walk again, though the burn mark would leave a feverish red mark across the front of his body, his new skin settling into twisted lines.
Bennard was far worse for wear, alive yet burned all the way to his face and crippled from a fall off his horse. His nose and ear-lobes had to be cut off, too burned to save, and even his eyelids were permanently scarred, unable to sprout new lashes. The more lucid Bennard became, the deeper his sorrow. Eventually he began refusing food. The new lord of Longtable would not eat anything his cooks set in front of him. In spite of his ever present pains, Dorian began going to the kitchens, reprimanding the cooks for their failings. He knew his brother well and knew his palette, and began ordering them to make his brother’s favorites. When he felt they were making mistakes, he interrupted their work himself. He was a stranger to the kitchen, yet would criticize how things were cut too roughly, spiced too little or too much. He was a terror to the cooks, yet they could not refuse him.
His attempts to intervene were however hampered by a newfound aversion to heat. The sound of the hearth, of boiling and searing, the general sense of warmth around him made him nauseous and caused his movements to seize up. Still, he went to his brother’s bedside every day, and afterwards he forced himself back to the kitchens. His sister, Lydia, tried to stop him at first, but soon found her protes fell on deaf ears, and so joined him, if only to leash him in when he went too far. Finally, there was only one dish they hadn’t tried; the dilligrout they’d once served to the late King Mern. Every time it was made, it came out wrong. It soon turned out the cook who had served them that evening six years ago had since retired, and his exact method had never been recorded or taught to anyone else. Dorian would first invite the man to Longtable, then summon him with armed knights when invitations were refused.
Theomar, the man who appeared before him, was a sorry sight, looking frightened and confused as he was taken to his old workplace. It was explained by his sons that he’d been growing senile even six years ago, often snapping at the kitchen maids under him when his memory failed him. Since then he’d gotten worse, seldom eating, let alone cooking. Something in the old man’s eyes did seem to brighten for a moment when the sounds and smells of his old kitchen surrounded him, and Dorian ordered him to make dilligrout. Before long that faint spark had been drowned out by tears. He would start boiling capon or crushing almonds, only to leave the job half-done whenever he had to fetch something new. Serving maids were put at his disposal to bring him ingredients, yet an ingredient ordered would be met with a reprimand as he seemed to forget which dish he was making every few minutes. Finally Dorian snapped at the man, grabbing him by his collar and shouting accusations of treason against House Merryweather. By the time Lydia could restrain him and try to apologize, the man was a wreck on the floor. After watching it for a while, waiting for the man to get up and continue his work, even Dorian was overcome by pity and shame for what he’d done. The old cook was praying to the gods, begging forgiveness for his failings. Dorian began to realize he’d broken a great man down and would himself beg forgiveness. He offered the man his old cook’s quarters back for the rest of his life, and promised his sons that his maester would tend to the man in his old age, that he would be fed from Longtable’s stores.
At this point, he resolved to make the dilligrout himself. Through it all, Bennard was barely clinging to life, or rather being tethered to it by the will of others. He could only be fed when drugged down by the milk of the poppy, and the more often it was used, the less effective it became. Every day Dorian braved the kitchens, yet he could not recreate the flavor of that wonderful night. It was by the grace of the gods, perhaps with Theomar as their vessel, that Dorian would even come close. The old man could no longer cook, but over time he began to wander into the kitchens and sit down on a chair. At first Dorian thought the man only sought the warmth of the hearth for his weary bones, yet he discovered it to be more than that. Theomar’s eyes were like clouded glass, yet they brightened every now and then, hearing almonds being ground, smelling capons searing in fat, as though it was stirring the kitchenmaster of yore back to life. Eventually Dorian began to walk up to the old cook with his ingredients, bidding him to smell or taste small portions. Sometimes he got simple instructions out of it, ‘too coarse’, ‘too sour’, ‘underdone’. Som times a mere nod or frown was all Theomar managed. Over the course of a couple of days, Dorian put together one final attempt to get the dish made rightWhen he arrived in Bennard’s chamber, he was met with a look which brought forth discomfort that no flame could produce in Dorian. Plainly, raspingly, his brother asked him why he wouldn’t let him die. It was easy, Bennard reasoned. All Dorian needed to do was wait and become lord. The words almost made Dorian throw the dilligrout on the floor. Almost. He placed two bowls on Bennard’s table, the dilligrout and one brimming with milk of the poppy. Dorian told his brother to make his choice. If he sought death, Dorian would let him, but he would not hear that it was an easy thing, watching his brother die. That evening, the milk of the poppy was carried away by the maester, the empty bowl of stew taken to be washed in the kitchens. From then on, Bennard ate what his brother brought him without complaint. He lasted just into the new year, dying on its tenth day. In the predawn gloom of the twelfth, Theomar died in his sleep
Dorian took up his lordly task joylessly. His old wanderlust returned, spurred by the horrible memories that now stained Longtable and the reach itself in his mind. The final straw came when their new Tyrell overlords, insisted on him marrying a lady from a dornish house. His previous betrothal had fallen through, as the parents of his western bride had not wished to draw the ire of the Targaryens by maintaining an old alliance meant to oppose them. Instead of obliging, he boarded a ship from Oldtown going east. It stopped only briefly in Planky Town before going to Tyrosh. Noting him to be a nobleman, a few of the city’s wealthy men would host him for a while, though they quickly lost interest when his lack of knowledge of trade became apparent. After that, he spent time in the markets and squares where the common people lived. His old curiosity was piqued, and he decided to embark on a quest of learning, fashioning himself another Lomas Longstrider. He moved on to Myr, and the experience was much the same in broad strokes, a few rich men showed interest and quickly lost it. As he’d visited the dye markets he went to see the city’s famous artisans at work. One thing was notably different, he met a Tyroshi woman with green-dyed hair, going by the name Maryah. She was a trader, and the two had taken the same ship to Myr. She had been to Myr before and showed him many of its secrets. They spent an entire day in one of the vast delicacy markets so she could show him the many tastes of the city. Having no plans in advance, he asked where she was headed next.
Without a second thought he would join her on a journey to Lys. He soon understood it to be a test. It was not long before she teased him, speculating he’d only joined her for a chance to see the famous pleasure houses. Evening after evening they stayed in the city and Maryah would tease and test him over the matter. Finally he told her he’d renounce his betrothal for her, that there was no one else in his eye. She laughed, replying he would not have to. The next morning, Dorian awoke to find that she was already up, the green washed from her black curls. Maryah had in fact been Joanna Dayne, his dornish bride to be, having traveled the same route as him ever since his ship stopped at Planky Town to refill its food and water. She was already quite familiar with the three closest free cities, having served as a dornish envoy on behalf of its spice traders. As they planned their return to Westeros, Joanna asked him what else in the world he wanted to see. Within a few moons of being wed, they left Westeros, not to return for three years. The journey was what his mind needed, away from the Reach, its knights and tapestries, hunts and tourneys. Ultimately, the lords and knights of his homeland, for all their songs and poetry, lived every day in preparation for war, frivolous though the preparations were. Joanna showed him a different world, the remnants of Old Valyria. War was to be sure inescapable. Wherever they went, there were soldiers, tapestries, contests of arms, and yet the cities housed something else as well, a boundless potential for creation, commerce and growth.
Thanks to Joanna Dayne’s knowledge their stays became far better planned, and they could enjoy the hospitality of wealthy locals far longer. She knew how to talk about the spice trade and similar matters, and Dorian began to pick up on it. On their second stay in Myr, he procured a great deal of fine parchment and began taking notes, everything from negotiation tactics and the prices of cloves or red peppers to court customs, as well as more eclectic pieces of knowledge, details of running an eastern estate, descriptions of technological marvels he had never seen in Westeros, and ingredients in the local food. By the time they neared Qarth he had quite the list of recipes, among other things. There he was even able to learn a few all the way from Yi Ti, as some local cooks catered to merchants from the Golden Empire. On their journey home they’d end up taking the opportunity to see the newly made port of King’s Landing. By that time, a third member had joined their journey, their infant daughter Florys. Having left Longtable in the care of his sister and steward for three years, Dorian finally accepted the responsibility of running his ancestral home.
Longtable was considered to rule over some of the best lands in the Reach, ideally situated along the river with abundant soil which could provide two grain harvests in a year. Having seen the estates which supplied the great cities of the east, Dorian was all too aware of its comparative shortcomings. He found that the abundance of the land had a counterproductive effect, breeding complacency and carelessness. From his grandiose tour of the east, he went on a painstaking tour of his own lands, trying to get an overview of everything he ruled over. He paid the citadel a fee to send him half a dozen maesters in training for a season. These young men, literate and numerate, would serve his own maester in conducting a survey of the land, giving Dorian account of all resources at his disposal as lord. The results were quite varied.
Some peasants were found to have remarkable agricultural insights which they had no way of writing down, entirely reliant on passing the knowledge to their children. Knowing the risks of such a method of transferring knowledge, Dorian ordered such insights recorded. In other places there were farmers and communities who were unwittingly exhausting their soil. Instances of lack of fallow land, excessive grazing by cows and lack of crop rotation were also made note of, followed by edicts against such heedless practices. Septons, sheriffs and tax collectors were given written copies and were obliged to read them to the peasantry wherever it was deemed necessary. It also became part of the obligations of farmers to plant a set amount of clover in their fields and pastures, a practice some had taken up on their own but which had already become a standardized law among the estates belonging to Myr and Volantis. Irrigation was expanded and land inheritance was reformed to prevent the splitting of fields past a certain threshold.
Lord Dorian was not always successful. Some eastern ideas had been useful innovations which improved conditions across the board. In time he learned that the peculiarities of the westerosi system were sometimes necessary for the sake of stability, not merely the misshapen fruits of ignorance. His attempt to enclose part of the common lands proved abortive, as it nearly caused a peasant rebellion. A procession of aggrieved smallfolk headed for Longtable had to be dispersed by knights, armed with wooden clubs to prevent needless bloodshed. Two men were hanged and five sent to the wall, but the reform was thereafter abandoned, leading the populace to calm down. Dorian was not much of a military leader and had not wielded weapons since the Field of Fire. He became aware of his need to bolster his forces, a notion reinforced by the establishment of the Black Roses not long after his return, and again with the Kingswood Catastrophe
In the meantime, he and Joanna raised a family together. Three more daughters would be born healthy, with a couple of miscarriages and a stillbirth in between, also a daughter. Their travels did not entirely come to an end. In 13 AC they would tour the northern free cities of Norvos, Qohor, Pentos, Braavos and Lorath, which they had missed on their original journey. The lion’s share of 17 AC was spent on a journey to the Summer Islands. At other times they would make shorter journeys around the Seven Kingdoms, where they felt more secure in bringing their older children along. Whether it was visiting Joanna’s family in Dorne, tourneys and feasts in the Reach and West or even one trip to see the wall, a nameday wish by Florys, they were often on the move. Like most of their peers, they frequented Oldtown and Highgarden
The growing rift between the two queens and their children was a situation Dorian would watch with dread in his heart, remembering keenly how a generation of young men had been brought to the field of fire. To his mind, the Targaryen rule ought not go to waste. Like Valyria of old, it had begun with fire and blood, yet similarly peace and prosperity had followed in its wake. If only the dragons could stand united, perhaps another long peace like the one the Freehold once enjoyed could again be established. If not, another century of blood was upon them. Under Dorian, Longtable became a place where he sought to bring together people from across the kingdoms and forge unity over the dinner table, an attitude which somewhat vexed and confounded his more militaristic daughter and heiress, Lady Florys. Even amid her questioning of the viability of his peaceful ways when surrounded by those who would make war, a terrible sight would steel his resolve, watching the Mander burning green, every bit as terrible as the flames from twenty one years prior. That night he made a simple vow, never again.
The League of the Cornucopia, he would name his little group, a gallery of lords and ladies whose acquaintances he’d made over the years. With these fellow gourmets he would share the culinary knowledge he’d gleaned from his journeys in the east and west. Most unusual for a lord of his rank, Dorian came to spend a great deal of time in his kitchens, testing out recipes himself. On occasion, the dishes he served to his guests for these small, intimate gatherings would be the work of his own hands. The membership did vary from time to time, both based on who could make it and who he sought to bring together. Rather than a fully closed circle, the League is more like a form of feasting, only it’s done for a much smaller crowd, without the public spectacle. Such occasions allowed for more refined foods which did not need to be served to hundreds and kept constantly warm over the course of hours like some common tavern stew. It also opened up an arena of more intimate diplomacy and negotiation for those who sought it, hosted on neutral ground by a lordly mediator, free from prying eyes.

2024.05.14 09:35 sai799 Should I get another undergraduate degree at 25?

I want to immigrate to either canada or the netherlands by studying there and because the degree i hold right now isn’t very in demand i can’t apply for jobs so I thought of getting masters program but mostly they will ask for letter of recommendation which idk if i can provide since only two professors reply and they just asked to sent them the form and sign it nothing more i emailed two others and put effort to provide them with some works that I’ve done in their courses and my cv it has been 6 months no reply. Also I honestly feel like most master’s programs for my undergraduate major is very limited or not in demand i have English language degree btw so if you have any advice I would appreciate it -
This’s just a vent maybe idk : I got two programs offer that end with employment rn in my home country which is great cuz i can maybe ask for professional references but they are not related to my undergraduate program also they’re all do urine tests and well… I may start to take medication for my anxiety and probably hopefully not antidepressants soon :( I’m kinda very excited for these two programs

2024.05.14 08:07 AnonAJV WIBTA if I gave my family a letter addressing their behavior when I move?

I am preparing to move out soon. While I have a loving relationship with my family, things are complicated and toxic. My maternal grandparents' tumultuous marriage and messy divorce have left a trail of dysfunction among their descendants, including my mom and uncle. They witnessed intense fights between their parents, including instances where guns were pointed.
During the messy divorce, my grandma manipulated my mom into lying in court to gain full custody, which my granddad deeply resents. My grandma, post-divorce, physically abused my mom and uncle, while my granddad, aware of the abuse, did little to intervene beyond a single stern warning to my grandma.
My mom became a teen mother, first at 15 with my brother, then at 19 with me, and later had my sister at 34 after being involved in a cult. We all have different fathers who have been absent. I had to step in to help raise my disabled sister, especially during her cancer treatment, as no one else was there for my mom.
My mom is in a relationship with a decent guy and regularly travels to see him. However, I'm often left responsible for my sister when she's away, unless I'm also out of town. My family is constantly embroiled in fights, and I always find myself in the middle. Despite my efforts to set boundaries, they're often disregarded since I don't yet live independently.
I've been subjected to, physical assault from my grandma, berating from my mom and grandparents, everyone saying horrible things about each other, among other things. My mom struggles with depression, anxiety, and PTSD, possibly with borderline personality disorder. My granddad has PTSD, depression, and anxiety, while my grandma has bipolar disorder.
Once I move out, I plan to write a letter to my family, outlining their toxic behavior and the impact it has had on me. I will express that I cannot continue our relationship until we undergo family therapy to achieve a healthier dynamic. Would I be the asshole in this scenario?

2024.05.14 08:00 Puzzled_Appeal3438 My change

How am I suppose to act after I seen all the love letters he wrote his girlfriends on reditt how he didn’t love his spouse but was Married 30!years ! Never once had anyone considered I was in so much pain because I worshipped the ground he walked on! But the flip side is not ever I can remember he showed me love it was violence ! Yes I stood up for myself! I fought a good fight but his violence was too much if I brought up his cheating he took it out on me !! I can’t understand why I could love e a man who cheated and treated me very badly ! I still don’t understand maybe I only hoped it would be better ! But they say if you have a lot to say it means you in pain! We hell yeah I had pain from a-z but it made me a bitter person but in some ways a better person because through all my pain and him not caring about me made me a better at believing God Is my strength and he loves me just the way I am because if you have to beg for the smallest of details in a marriage then what the purpose in being united in life! See I know not I have never felt and love only betrayal and never understood the why behind it!! It was due to the fact that I as a person could only get the ones who I thought needed me but that’s not love that’s only co- depend on someone who only found good in me when they needed something ! Not out of the heart! Iwas wrong to ever expect him to be faithful or even have love for me if I couldn’t depend on him to show me any love as well! So he is going back to his ex ex and I will start my new journey in a different life! I may not see this is a good thing right now but in time it will be just one of those bad memories he so worked hard to put me inside of! I will be okay and I will not look back at him as a spouse that didn’t love me ! I will just take a deep breath and let his betrayal continue on! Because the truth is he truly killed me from the inside out! Because I was the one who was married to him when he started all his cheating and ripping me apart little by little! It hurts but I can hold my head up knowing I never cheated on him but really who cares it never changed nothing but me ! He was to busy hurting me to notice!

2024.05.14 07:56 Mouse-Mission1294 How to approach someone in their anger?

So, I am coming to the conclusion my husband is pwBPD, though not diagnosed. I'm not seeking confirmation on that, but it helps me to try to understand his emotions and behaviours. Reading through posts here is helping enormously.
We've been married for 15 years, and he has always had angry outbursts, but they are getting more frequent, being triggered by (from the outside ) seemingly smaller and smaller things, and he then retreats into an angry stonewalling that is now lasting for months at a time.
Currently he is not speaking to me for several weeks, and I think that it is because I fell asleep on the sofa while waiting to help him with some medication (for a separate medical issue). I can't think of anything else that triggered it, there was no fight, I guess he just felt like I didn't care enough about him to stay awake.
I am not allowed in the room with him, he comes home late and slams things. When I have offered to help or offer a cup of tea etc, he pulls his hair and looks at me with such rage. He has held his hand up in my face and screamed that he needs space.
In the past he has only really climbed down from this point when a crisis occurs. E.g. he ended up in icu with high blood pressure, his mum ending up in icu with high blood pressure likewise, or me nearly getting deported because he wouldn't support my visa application. As in a serious crisis. Then once he starts talking again, he expects us all to carry on as if nothing happened.
This is taking its toll on my own mental health, and our daughter and his mother. I don't feel like he is choosing this, but he won't come down or allow anyone to reach out to him.
I am scared, for myself (he's not violent, but the look in his eyes terrifies me), for him (he could easily end up having a heart attack), for our marriage, for our family.
I would hugely appreciate any advice on how to approach things from anyone who finds themselves in that way. Do I just give the space he is asking for, even though this could be months, and surely makes him feel more rejected? Or do I keep trying to approach, bearing in my that even the slightest perceived criticism might result in a deepening or a full blow up. He doesn't read well, and won't read a letter, he is not responding to messages. He is not in a place to accept that he needs professional help. I'm so lost.
There is a lot of background and detail I can add if anyone needs to know, but just some basic top tips would be so helpful.
Thank you.

2024.05.14 07:47 culo2020 White Card veteran-transport nsw

So im a bit peeded off, after seeking support with a concession opal card because im not working due to ptsd & mental health but fall short of qualifying for a gold card. I apply for a concession opal & get knocked back because i dont qualify. After challenging their rejection, they sent me a letter that unless im unemplyed with a health care card or an illegal immigrant or an assylum seeker, im not entitled for a consession. Im unemployed & on benefits via DVA & not centrelink ie: jobseeker payments. Its officially been established by medical documents i cant work as its work in progress where i may return to work after therapy & treatments. Im just peeded off that although i served 10yrs in the military, im not good enough to be offered a concession card. Yet an illegal immigrant or an assylum seeker is automatically awarded a concession travel... Thanks for your service Australia. I now know where i fit in.

2024.05.14 06:51 naish109 Please Help

Hello everyone,
I got spousal conditional Green Card on July 2021. As per immigration law, permanent Green Card will be issued after 2 years of validity of conditional Green card. But last year USCIS issued extension letter for 4 years instead.
So my questions are;
1) did anyone get extension letter instead of Permenant Green Card?
2) could it be possible that USCIS make case delayed on request of sponsor?
please reply.
Thank you in advance.

2024.05.14 06:42 No-Crab-109 Asked to write a letter of support for sham marriage...

I was asked by a very good friend to write a letter of support vouching for her marriage to another woman whos in the process of getting her greencard/citizenship. Theyve both known each other since they were kids. Finally in 2016 they got legally married. Problem is... they arent gay, and i and them know that, because we talked about it in the past. My friend even sent me a text saying to word it so it doesnt look fake. Now i know its unethical, but i genuinely know them both to be otherwise very good people and her spouse wants a better life here.
I was only asked to write that i know them from X year to X year, and that i attended their wedding (which i did), and that they are kind hardworking people and then sign it and put my contact info.
Legal ethics aside, is there a legal risk for me to write a letter of support simply stating and affirming those simple facts? Because those facts themselves are very true. The intent behind them is another matter, but im not testifying to their sexual orientation or wether i think the intent behind the marriage is legitimate. Im only stating facts
I already made it clear that If i get asked by an immigration officer, if i believe the intent behind the marriage is sincere, i wont lie, and ill tell the truth that i dont believe its a sincere relationship. I want to help her have a better life here within reason but i wont put myself at risk. But if i admit that under questioning, can the immigration office then reason that i wrote the letter stating the simple facts, but with an intent to decieve, because i knew the truth to be different?
Would an immigration officer ask me if i think the marriage is a sham?
Also, how likely is the immigration office to pull text message records between me and my friend (who is getting married to the immigrant), and see where she casually told me to not make it look fake?
My friend only said dont make the letter "look" fake, not admitting that the marriage itself is fake. Is that ok then?
What sort of penalties can be expected in the worst case for me? I'd appreciated some answers to each of these questions because i want to be extra cautious here

2024.05.14 06:24 No_Bat3965 Philippines marriage to US citizen -- do we need a Philippines transcription of the foreign marriage

Hi,
I am trying to be a bit proactive with the immigration situation. My Filipino wife and I got married outside the Philippines. When we got married we fulfilled all of the local conditions. However, we never recorded the marriage with the Philippines government.
In the visa reciprocity table, it says
For marriages that occurred outside of the Philippines, the original marriage certificate from the issuing country should be provided, and translated into English, along with the Philippines recording of the marriage.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Philippines.html
Also, I saw this
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/MNL-Manila.html
A Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) valid within one (1) year from the date it was obtained. The U.S. Embassy in Manila requires a CENOMAR for applicants whose unmarried status is important to their visa category.
However, my wife will not be going through Manila because she is not a resident there. Like many Filipinos she lives overseas. We also didn't need a CENOMAR when we got married because the country we got married in doesn't require that.

2024.05.14 05:54 HelloKrisKris American worried about super submissive fiancé.

We are lesbians, but I didn’t tag this is LGBTQ+ because for you straight people, even if you don’t know any gay couples basically the dynamics are the same. At the end of the day, relationships are relationships. So please give me your advice.
I live in America and I’m currently working on the immigration process for my Filipina fiancé, she is very submissive. Its not very unusual for me as all of my friends are very passive people even here. I have a very strong and dominant personality, but I do not railroad people and I’m very considerate of others.
Here is the issue. My fiancé mentions that she will be a good wife and obey me. While I do not require being obeyed, she is very proud when she says it. She also wants to double down on her submission when we get married. She has basically told me that is when she will completely submit making her a good wife in her eyes.
In my culture submission is either about sex, religion because the man is the head of the household (which does not apply because we’re both women and not religious), or used as a cover to opt out of personal decision-making and responsibility.
I worry, she will do this and eventually become resentful, which is not how I want to start a marriage. However, the reality of it could be very satisfying for me and work well with my natural personality.
Is there an Asian or Filipino way I should be viewing this desire of hers for submission? Can I be understanding this from her cultures perspective instead of my own?

2024.05.14 05:52 chromosomegone I don't know how to convince my entitled parents that I REFUSE TO MARRY MY COUSIN!!!

[Just a disclaimer, I cuss a lot. I'm very angry as I'm writing this post.]
Hi, I'm back here again, hope you guys are well. I'm really not.
I'm extremely stressed, disheartened, betrayed, upset annoyed angry etc. you name it.
I got into a heated argument with my dad today. I really care about my dad and he's, generally speaking, been supportive of me whenever I take life decisions that make him and my mum happy. I understand that I have limited choices and need to make the right decisions given how we are first generation immigrants in a first world country, and only my dad financially supports our family. So having a stable job is really important, yada yada, yes I do whatever my parents pull out of their ass all the time even if I don't want to because they know best and only want me to be happy and successful.
Anyway, the marriage market for a 22F South Asian like me "sucks" at the moment according to them. Not many sons from good traditional families exist around my area. So my dad has used his classical manipulation techniques that he is old, sick (both of those things are true, gotta give him that) and he has the heavy burden of getting his daughter married into a good family. So he picked my fucking cousin back home. He is from a good family and we can trust them yada yada, our family knows them, their family knows us (DUH that's your fucking sister's family, of course you know them) and we can trust their son ( I have barely known him personally. He lives in a different country and I rarely visit back home. And the idea of marrying my cousin is fucking disgusting to me. I don't even like him and never will).
Mind you, that's the cousin my parents told me not to worry about...matter of fact I've made it very clear to them that when it's time to decide for my marriage, I only have one fucking condition and that is .... I DON'T WANNA MARRY MY FUCKING COUSINS :D (the bar is very low, I know. I don't even want to get married wtf I'm only 22 and have 0 interest in marriage or guys in general wtf)
My parents don't wanna put in the effort of finding someone else, and they hear these stories about guys in my area having kids outside of wedlock and then running away or hiding their kid or babymama. Or that guys that cannot be trusted here since substance abuse is very common here. Not many educated guys exist (load of bullshit, they do, my parents just have 0 social skills and would rather speak with someone they know). My dad has particularly used religion to justify that cousin marriage is fine. Well guess what, my religion says that if I say no, then it means no and nothing can happen. So my dad said, I only have the best interest in my mind and you should listen to me and you won't regret it. We just went back and forth with that argument and ended on a very angry note. Now we're ignoring each other and it's just fucking killing me. I don't want this to happen to me, and my dad has made up his mind and is gonna go through with it. I can only hope that fuckass cousin doesn't see this as an opportunity to leave that shitty third world country and come here. Fuckin hell what do I fucking do. How do I convince them?

2024.05.14 05:33 Straight-Message-432 "Children" expose deceit, "farm" is in civil strife, "painting cake" seeks comfort

"Forget the tears of your parents, forget the tenderness of your husband", this is what Guo Wengui said to deceive Yan Limeng; "My father is Guo Wengui, and his insults and injuries to women are infuriating, and I will not stand idly by", this is what Guo Wengui's daughter Guo Mei said to Accusation of Guo Wengui's evil deeds; "Comrades, please act in advance", this is Guo Wengui's ecstasy soup. Nowadays, Guo Wengui is in prison and facing verbal and verbal criticism from his relatives and society. It can be said that he is truly "betrayed and separated from his relatives". As usual, Guo Wengui, who is in prison, continues to "live chat randomly" in an attempt to cover up everything and "grant money" to himself as a "red-letter criminal and fraudster" who is being rounded up by the judiciary. "Smashing the pot, exposing the lie, and judging" is like Lingchi's knife cutting into Guo Wengui's vital points. Masturbating orally is no longer helpful, and will only be self-defeating.
https://preview.redd.it/f9n1pqawab0d1.jpg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aac58dd0affa51f66b1641cc3922adbecca69796
If it sticks to the pan, it will become moldy, and if it is covered with gold, it cannot conceal its "broom star" characteristics. Judging from the past, it has become an iron rule that "sticking to the pot will lead to mold" and "supporting Guo will lead to death", and Guo Wengui himself has the attribute of "broom star". It is a fact that "investors" have lost their entire fortune and lost their lives; it is a reality that "those who support Guo" have had their marriages broken up and their husbands and wives are at odds; it is a norm that "those who stick to the pot" are being pursued through judicial investigations and public opinion. It is Guo Wengui's method to squeeze everyone to the extreme; it is Guo Wengui's conspiracy to structure every sentence ruthlessly. Bannon stuck to the pot, was deceived and arrested, and the judicial investigation has not been slowed down; the pro-democracy movement stuck to the pot, was abandoned and scolded, and now fights back to expose the deception of Wengui; Yan Limeng stuck to the pot, was banned and condemned, and encountered Wengui defrauding Dai Gao cap. From a practical point of view, there are countless people who stick to the pot, but only a few who get good rewards. Yan Limeng, who was deceived by Guo Wengui and Bannon, became their puppet in creating the "epidemic made in Wuhan". When the rumor-mongering platform Guo Wengui's "career" is to confuse right and wrong, and the "ability" of a liar is to tell nonsense. Guo Wengui vividly interprets these two.
Trapped in a quagmire, it's hard to stop cheating. The "Guo Scam" is full of loopholes. At this point, Guo Wengui's lies and scams can be called a "sieve", full of loopholes. For a long time, he has used his identity as a "victim" to "sell misfortune" to the world and "fool" ants, creating a scammer's way of "having the 'blue and gold' in his hand, and he is not afraid of spreading rumors and smearing." Looking at Guo Wengui from a "family perspective", Guo Meizai once said in a tweet: "Wang Yanping is Guo Wengui's nephew's daughter-in-law, and later became Guo Wengui's 'girlfriend'", and mentioned that "Guo Wengui loves women but also harms them", tweeted Although small, it contains a huge amount of information. Combined with Guo Wengui's long history of skillfully using "pornographic, ethical" and other obscene words, it can be seen that Guo Wengui is a "practitioner" of his words. Every ridiculous and shameless evil act, every scam that is outraged by people and gods, and every deception and abduction. Lies are all "true portrayals" of Guo Wengui's life. Guo Wengui's "revelation" is actually a "mirror". Outsiders can see Guo Li's miserable past in the first half of his life, while Guo himself has modified it to deceive the world. This is the nature of a "charlatan". Everything is revealed in the report, and the Plague Turtle scam is difficult to continue; everything is encircled and tried during the investigation, and Guo Qiao is struggling.
The Guizhou donkey has no skills, and masturbation cannot change the ending of the "lost dog". As usual, Gui Wengui continued to incite his ignorant comrades to harass the blame-breakers by "financing" for himself, "seeking profits" for his comrades, and "breaking the news" to the world. Lawsuits were lost one after another, scams were exposed one after another, and summonses were served one after another. Guo Wengui was already at the end of his rope, had no way out, and was sitting in jail. Today, Guo Wengui is still in prison seeking comfort and "mouth high" to relieve his depression. He is already in the predicament of a "lost dog" and a "drowned dog". Behind Guizhou Donkey's helpless wail is the ringing of the doomsday bell. It is Guo's deception that the end is coming. sign.
"Children" expose deceit, "Farm" is in civil strife, and "Happy Country" is coming to an end; "Painting" seeks comfort, "Live Broadcast" makes people happy, and "Plague Turtle" jumps over the wall in a hurry. At this point, "the country will be subjugated by fraud" has become a foregone conclusion, and the script of masturbation has long been ineffective. Continuing to struggle will only add more jokes and be self-defeating; "reality slaps in the face" has become the norm, and the deception of gold-plated drama has failed, and rumors continue to be spread. You will surely burn yourself by playing with fire and bring about your own destruction. I would like to advise the little ants who still support Guo and wait and see, don’t hesitate to collect debts while Guo Wengui still has interest, otherwise when Guo Wengui is shackled and imprisoned, debt collection will become an empty dream.

2024.05.14 05:06 ishh_16 Need advice on obtaining Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) for immigration process

Hey everyone,
I'm currently on a student visa in the USA, and my immigration file has just been opened. As part of the process, I need to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC). However, I'm facing a hurdle in acquiring it due to the lack of a solid address proof.
I'm living with my paternal aunt, and the only address proof I have is a university letter and a bank statement. Unfortunately, these documents aren't accepted for PCC application purposes.
I'm considering going back to India to get the PCC, but I'm not sure if this is possible or if I'm required to obtain it here in the USA.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice on how I can proceed? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.14 04:40 237SnK [Spoilers Extended] What I think will happen in Winds of Winter

This is what I think will happen and what I would like to happen in Winds of Winter.
North:
Stannis wins, but loses almost all his forces and in Winterfell there are no resources left, so he is forced to return to the wall leaving a few men in Winterfell. Ramsey had sent the false pink letter to provoke Jon, because Stannis used Theon and the false Arya as bait, making Ramsey go out with a few men to capture them (against the orders of his father Roose). Ramsey wanted to provoke Jon to make him leave Castle Black (knowing that Jon was his Lord Commander) and thus turn the Night's Watch against him. Ramsey eventually captures Theon and the fake Arya, but on his way back he finds the castle taken by Stannis, so he flees to Dreadfort. Jon is dead, and Selysse, upon learning of the pink letter, proposes to Melissandre to burn Shireen in order to help Stannis, and she accepts. By burning Shireen, Jon is resurrected. A second letter arrives, and this one says that Stannis has taken Winterfell but that he must return to consolidate the supply line (since Winterfell has no supplies to feed the survivors of his army). Jon, upon learning what has happened, with the help of the wildlings and those still loyal to him in the guard, imprisons Selysse along with all those who were part of his murder.
However, Jon decides to let Melissandre escape knowing that Stannis would kill her for what she did, and he does so because as much as it disgusts him that she burned Shireen, there is a power in her or her Red God or whatever that may be necessary for the war against the Others. Stannis returns and learns what has happened from Jon's words (I think this would be a very good moment to see Stannis in a moment of great vulnerability, to see a man like him break). Stannis decides to execute Selysse, and Jon executes all those responsible for his murder. Jon proposes to Stannis to join him this time as Jon Stark (leaving everything related to the Watch, including the Hardhome issue) to save Arya along with the help of the wildlings. Stannis accepts, knowing that the girl Ramsey has is not really Arya, omitting the truth out of interest. This time the North joins Stannis' cause for Jon Stark, and they march to Dreadfort. The battle of the bastards occurs, Jon, Stannis and Mance Ryder win handsomely saving Theon and Jeyne Poole (Jon realizing it wasn't Arya). This is when the wall is destroyed or the Others have somehow gotten through (as by Eastwatch freezing the sea itself). Jon realizes that he abandoned his guard and his brothers for nothing. (At this point the Iron bank funding comes to Stannis, but I doubt very much that it would do much good. Maybe for a large fleet in White Harbor, which would serve to evacuate the north to the free cities).

South:
Aegon conquers the Stormlands and marries Arianne Martell. The attempted coup of the Sand Snakes at King's Landing fails (Ser Robert Strong, the Mountain, protects Cersei and Tommen by killing the Sand Snakes). Dorne, the Stormlands and the golden company led by Aegon and Jon Connington invade Highgarden. Cersei asks Littlefinger for help in the Vale, and he accepts, but meanwhile Littlefinger agrees to an alliance with Aegon and swears allegiance to him if he makes him Warden of the East and Warden of the North through Sansa Stark, thus him marrying her (Robert Arryn dies in an “accident”). Aegon accepts because he knows about Stannis' advance in the North. Cersei opens the gates to the army of the Vale, and it sacks King's landing. Cersei talks to the pyromancer and tells him to burn the whole city while she plans to flee with Tommen. He obeys and begins the process. Then Arya (who has already had her development in Braavos) shows up and in some spectacular way from what she has learned in the Faceless Men kills the Mountain, and then Arya goes after Cersei and Tommen. Cersei begs Arya to spare Tommen's life, to kill her but not to kill Tommen. Arya then slowly kills Tommen in front of Cersei, and then kills her. The whole city starts to burn from the valyrian fire, but Arya escapes (She heard Cersei's orders she gave to the pyromancer being with another face, but she doesn't bother to stop him, she is totally indifferent about it). King's Landing ends up completely in ruins, exploding and burning everything and everyone who fails to escape. Aegon is left without capital and without an iron throne (Varys is also saved thanks to the secret passages).
Euron conquers Casterly Rock with the intention of plundering the gold and finds that there is nothing. In addition, Lady Stoneheart (Catelyn) kills Jaime in front of Brienne (who accepts because she swore to obey Catelyn, even knowing that Jaime had changed and still loving him, she does it out of honor). Catelyn leading the brotherhood without a banner kills and hunts down all the Freys, including Walder Frey, causing the riverlands to end in anarchy. Catelyn, for the intel she got from Jaime, goes to the westerlands to save Jeyne Westerling (Robb's Wife) in The Crag and Edmure on Casterly Rock (along the way she meets Brynden, the Blackfish). Once Catelyn saves Jeyne at The Craig she and her family tell her that they hid Robb's son in the riverlands, pretending that Jeyne had miscarried. She also learns that the Ironborn have captured Casterly Rock, where Edmure is. Catelyn is at the crossroads of going west to try to save her brother or going east to look for Robb's son.

Essos:
Barristan Selmy meets Jorah and Tyrion, and initially Barristan wants to kill Jorah for bypassing the exile but Tyrion intervenes and they focus more on finding Daenerys. The three go on an expedition in search of Daenerys (leaving the Unsullied and the Second Sons in charge of Meereen). Daenerys is trapped in the Dosh Khaleen, and Jorah, Tyrion and Barristan end up finding out somehow, so they plan to save her (Jorah knows the city will be deserted). After they are gone, Victarion and his fleet arrive in Meereen, and Moqorro sounds the horn after making sacrifices to R'hllor (thus avoiding his own death). Moqorro gains control over Viserion and Rhaegal. The Ironborn take over Meereen with the help of the dragons, and Victarion, not finding Daenerys, tells Moqorro that two dragons are enough and that they should return to Westeros. Moqorro objects, and then performs a ritual in his flames that makes him see where Daenerys is. Victarion, Moqorro and the Ironborn make an expedition to go after Daenerys to Vaes Dothrak.
The Dothrakis realize that there is an army heading towards Vaes Dothrak, so all the Khals go there to protect their holy city. Jorah, Tyrion and Barristan at first find the city completely deserted, but when the Khals arrive everything fills up and they must flee and hide. Then the Ironborn arrive, led by Victarion. The Dothrakis charge the Ironborn, and then Moqorro uses the dragons and the dragons burn them. In the midst of the chaos, Jorah, Tyrion and Barristan manage to reach Daenerys along with the other Khaleesis, but Drogon appears. Daenerys controls Drogon as best she can (he isn't under Morroqo's influence), and tells Jorah, Tyrion and Barristan to run away. Drogon then burns Dosh Khaleen along with all the Khaleesis. This is a catastrophe for all the Dothrakis, but then among the flames Daenerys appears. The Dothrakis consider this a prophecy, so all the khals prostrate themselves before her and join her army. Moqorro, Victarion and Daenerys meet, and then Moqorro gives the horn to Daenerys. Victarion objects, but being surrounded by Dothrakis and now without power over the dragons, he decides not to exert force also at Moqorro's persuasion. Moqorro tells Daenerys that death is marching on Westeros, that the wall has fallen. It is then that Daenerys decides to leave with the Dothrakis, the Unsullied and the Ironborn with Victarion's fleet to Westeros (it may be that the Dothraki went overland to the free cities and then embarked from there).
So, this would be in summary what I think would happen without reaching the end and skipping many things. Daenerys would take many months to reach Westeros, she would stop by other slaver cities to feed her great army. Meanwhile, the North led by Stannis as King, Jon Stark as guardian of the North and Mance Ryder leading the wildlings, would have to organize a massive evacuation of the entire North to below the neck. Thousands of ravens would fly. Jon, Stannis and Mance would be on the front lines fighting Aegon's army, being the golden company, dorne, the knights of the valley, what's left of the stormlands and probably also part of the tyrell (who I assume would eventually surrender to Aegon). Stannis' conquest to the south would not so much be a war as a desperate flight, Aegon would not believe anything about the others and would see Stannis only as the brother of the man who killed his father. Aegon's army is much larger, has far more supplies (the north is in ruins) and his army of far, far higher quality (the golden company and the knights of the valley are some of the best). So I would guess that Stannis would lose against the Vale and would have to decide to maneuver to the twins (which are abandoned by the passing of Lady Stoneheart). The goal would not be to win battles, but to flee from the Others. It would be like what Mance Ryder did beyond the wall but all the way north to the south. (I assume at some point Daenerys would land at Dragonstone and fight Aegon, a marriage between them would no longer be viable) Something I forgot about: I assume Davos would eventually find Rickon with Osha. White Harbor would be the most important place to evacuate the north, sending as many refugees as possible to the free cities. Now, I don't quite know what would happen with Bran really. He might be a good point of view from which to see the mass evacuation of the north, with him fleeing to the south as well. I think that the advance of the others should take over all of Westeros and even advance towards Essos through the sea of stepstones but frozen. Let it be a real massive apocalyptic event.

2024.05.14 04:16 Financial_Chemist286 New born positive for DS in NICU

Baby boy was born at 36 weeks gestation a few days ago. He is in the NICU due to having a pleural effusion that seems to be clearing. He also has pulmonary hypertension but they hope no surgery is needed right now. He is stable and doing well in the NICU. He doesn’t suckle or eat on his own because he is learning to swallow and breathe. Things we take for granted. I feel bad for my wife because she was looking forward to experience being a woman and breast feeding him.
They no longer have him intubated just on oxygen with the canula at 2 liters so we are making progress. Blood work came back positive for trisomy21. Asked Doctor about a microarray but she said he doesn’t need one?that he as tri21? I thought there were 3 types from what I am learning online.
Can’t say my wife and aren’t a little scared and confused. I did sign up today for down syndrome network news letter. I guess I just don’t know where to start since we are embarking on this journey.
I hope to give him the best life I can. I know early intervention is important but what exactly does that entail? What therapies should I be looking for to begin with? What recommendations or resources?
My wife is grieving and so am I a little because he is our first and I guess we had so many ideas of our marriage having a little one that would be our legacy in terms of growing up and growing older, college, girlfriends, maybe marriage and children for him but now I see he may never experience some of those things and we should be counting our blessings.
I have so many thoughts in my mind like what kind of life will he have and be able to live? Will he live a long quality life? Will he have independence? I get worried about who will take care of him when we die as I am 38m and wife is 36f. Then I read that I can expect his life expectancy to be maybe 50-60’s years of age and that some DS people live till 70’s maybe.
I know I should just enjoy the moment now of him being a baby but seeing the videos on you tube and realizing how much time and effort he will need to thrive scares me because he just won’t have a typical childhood. But I will do my best to be strong and be there for him and I want to give him the best start and base possible to thrive.
I see there was an institute for people’s potential and also know I will need to sign up for all the therapies I can. I know also I need him to have great nutrition and healthy lifestyle so he can carry himself with it for as long as he can because after my wife and I are gone he will really have no one else besides maybe a few nephews and nieces. Do I need to set up a trust or anything like that now or accounts to grow so he will have something in the future to use?
Thank you for reading my grief and cries here. I appreciate your experience and expertise on what I can do to give my newborn baby boy the best quality of life he can have.

2024.05.14 03:31 brisbross Need to travel to Austin, TX

Just wondering if anyone who’s “undocumented” has flown to Austin, TX recently with for example a mexican passport and if it was sketchy or risky with the random checks that Customs can do in texas. I need to travel to Austin for a family matter and although i’m technically undocumented at the moment (former Daca recipient), I dealt with ICE in 2020 and they detained me and gave me a court which i fortunately managed to beat and get dropped for deportation and such and now have a pending marriage green card so USCIS knows of me. I’ve traveled to Puerto rico with my mexican passport with no issues entering and leaving but i wanted to know of people on here themselves have traveled to texas with a foreign passport or with somebody that have and how prevalent the immigration checks at the airport were. just tryna see the risks is all

2024.05.14 02:30 Tiffanydolma I-130 and I-485 pending

Hello, I’m having a hard time waiting for the pending paperwork. I was on student visa when I came to USA on december 2019 due to Covid I was unable to fund my schooling so I didn’t go to the school. I moved with a friend in Portland OR and met my current husband through mutual friend. We got married on late 2020 and filed for I-130 in early 2021 and filed i-1485 in mid of 2021. I got my work permit on June 2022 and later had my interview around August 2022. Later they send a I-601 waiver for more proof of evidence for the marriage and we did send it on January 2023. Since then there is no new about the process. I filed for out of processing time for I-130 and they gave me 6 month wait and it had been more than 8 months I called them again and they issued a ) more month wait. It’s been more than 3 years for the I-130 approval. And my I-485 is also outside processing time and the 3 month wait for that will be over on may. I’m currently studying for nursing school I’m done with my pre requisite and I have offer letter from one of the best nursing school from the state but I’m afraid the opportunity might be missed since I’m not eligible for many scholarships. Is there anyone who can help me or guide through.
I filed for expedite as my case has been pending for so long with any answers.
Can anyone please leave a message or share their struggle. I don’t know why it is taking so long.

2024.05.14 02:17 Keithy21 I got married in Mexico recently and need help.

Hello, I married my wife who is a Mexican and has never been to USA before, we got married in a court in Mexico City and have the marriage certificate and we had a wedding event party a few days later.
Right now I’m in the process of filling out the I-130 and the I-130A and I believe there’s another form that I can fill out that she can come here while it’s processing but I haven’t gotten to that yet. My wife got a lawyer to tell us how to do the process, but i want to be sure that what this lawyer is saying is correct.
A few issues I have with the lawyer telling us we need to do these things. The lawyer says that we need to write a letter apologizing to USCIS for marrying in Mexico and we need to tell USCIS that we didn’t know how to get married in USA? Is this true? He also said my wife needs to get a tourist visa and we need to marry here in USA. He also said I won’t need to go to Mexico for the interview, I can do somewhere in USA.
I’ve read a lot about the process but I never heard of these things before but this is my first time so I could be clueless so I’m hoping somebody that has experience can let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. I think I’m just worried of doing something wrong and we get denied so I’m trying to make sure everything is perfect.
Thanks for any help.
