2024.05.13 23:19 FunTour8025 How much of a detriment can sin be to society?

I ask this from the perspective of a college student, actively trying to convert my peers. One had asked me about weed (I smoked for about 5-6 years and was delivered btw) and I brought up all the cases from scripture and basic living I could find. He replied with something simple that I didn’t think of which was “I know drugs are bad when too much of them can kill you. I don’t think anything good like loving someone or blessing someone too much can ever be bad.” Now of course there’s truth in saying too much water or food can kill you, but specifically from sinful or rather secular activities, how far can this argument extend when stretching to the entire population?
If that was confusing, the shortened question is Would every sin, if actively practiced by all adults or at least teens and up, end in a societal breakdown/crisis? If so, why is or isn’t this a good argument to use?
Examples..
  1. If every teen or adult practiced homosexuality, there would be much higher risks of stds, and the population would slowly die out given that heterosexual relationships would have ended.
  2. If every one committed murder..that speaks for itself.
  3. If everyone committed fornication, there’s many more broken homes, unwanted pregnancies (likely including more abortions).
What sin do you think this argument couldn’t or can’t logically apply to if any? Where can it be countered? Any feedback helps!!

2024.05.13 23:18 Imaginary_Archer4628 Simple One Token Game-System for Beginners

Simple One Token Game-System for Beginners
This game is one of the simplest possible systems to gamify life. I recommend it for beginners.

Concept

  • You have one token (resource), let's call it Gold.
  • There are activities where you earn gold (inputs).
  • There are activities where you spend gold (sinks).
  • You need to be above zero every day to stay in the game.
That's it.

Game Etymology

It's a super basic game that most of people playing gamifying life invented naturally (though with some additional complexity).
I was playing with it in Habitica for a few months few years ago until I found better systems.

Where to Play

Anywhere. Logic is so somple that a pen & paper will be completely enough. Where to PlayAnywhere. Logic is so somple that a pen & paper will be completely enough.

Player Experience

You will have a feeling of having better control over yourself.
You will have less regrets that you waste time on reward activities (because you deserved to do them).
You will be full of faith that you finally started doing some progress on activites you deeply care.

Rules & Mechanics

At the beginning of the game you defines sources (habits) and sinks (rewards). You define how much gold it provides or cost.
Let's define 3 sources activities and 3 sinks activities.
Sources (Good Metrics) Reward
Running +1 gold/1 minute
Cleaning House + 2 gold/1 minute
Pusups +0.5 gold/1 minute
Sinks (Bad Metrics) Penalty
Watching Netflix -1 gold/5 minutes
Eating Junk Food -1 gold/50 kcal
Reading fantasy books -1gold/ 30 minutes of reading
You need to provide info how much you did every day.
You need to keep the gold above zero every day.
If you want do consume more rewards, you need to do more "good" activities.
Example Shown in Habitica

Narration & Theme

Not really - the system is too basic.

Advantages of the Game

  • Super Simple. Can be easily performed even on paper.
  • Rules easy to remember
  • Good starting point to gamification of life

Disadvantages of the Game

  • If you start with too easy "prices", the game will be non-functional and boring
  • If you will start with too hard "prices", the game will be demotivating and you will quickly burn out.
  • Even if you will find a good initial difficulty level, there is no logic to make it more difficult over time (and you, as a player, will be more performant even after few days of using the game).
  • Doesn't create any relations between sources. This means that you can produce gold by executing only one metric (e.g. running) and totally discard others (e.g. pushups and cleaning house). It's not the situation you want long term but it's totally valid way of plaing such a simple game.

2024.05.13 23:18 AgentEves Mapping Actuals to Goals

Hi Everyone, I'm probably going to have a bunch of follow-up questions, so I appreciate everyone's help in advance, but for now, I'm going to try and keep it as simple as possible. I think I should be able to work out the other steps if I can just get past the first hurdle. Teach a fellow to fish, and all that.
Unfortunately, I can't upload sample data because the data is sensitive, so I'm going to use a made up example to help explain where necessary.
The End Goal: I am creating a metrics dashboard to display how well we are progressing towards our annual goals. I have one table with the metrics listed, along with the 2024 goal for each metric (numeric values). We'll call this the Metrics table. I also have two tables combined which contains all the data used to calculate the 'Actuals'. We'll call this the Data table. There are no fields that join the 'Metrics' table with the 'Data' table. I plan to create a dual-axis bar graph which shows Actuals vs Goals.
Since there are no matching fields between the Data table and the Metrics table, I plan to create a calculated field for each of the individual metrics, using data from the Data table. I will then create a calculated field named "Actuals" which will contain a series of IF statements based on the metric name. i.e., IF [Metrics].[Metric] = "Metric 1" THEN [Data].[Metric 1] ELSEIF [Metrics].[Metrics] = "Metric 2" THEN [Data].[Metric 2], and so on and so forth.
The issue I'm having is creating the calculated fields for each metric...
An Explanation of the Dataset: Let's say my data is about the delivery of fruit and vegetables. The two tables combined to make the 'Data' table are a 'Delivery Stats' table and a 'Metadata' table. The 'Delivery Stats' table lists the fruits and vegetables delivered, the date, the quantity delivered, the quantity that are rotten, and the % that are rotten. The 'Metadata' table lists every fruit and vegetable that we have ever ordered, and then lists the features of each fruit/vegetable. e.g., if it's a fruit or a vegetable, the colour, the country of origin, etc. Note: each fruit/vegetable is only listed once in the Metadata table, as the metadata is static.
The last piece of the puzzle is that I have a 'Metric Date' which is a calculated field. It shows the last available date from the previous month, based on the data available. So within my dataset, that date is March 29. The reason I am using a calculated field is so that the date can be dynamic based on the data available.
Where I'm Stuck: My first metric is 'Number of Red Fruit/Vegetables'. So I want to do a simple count of the number of rows where the Colour is listed as 'Red', but only on the Metric Date (i.e., March 29). And this is where I'm getting stumped.
I can create a table where I have Date and Colour in the rows, and then Total Fruit in the Marks, but what I need to do is create a calculated field that shows only the count of red fruits and only on the 'Metrics Date'.
What I've Done So Far: I created a binary calculated field called "Red" which uses IF logic to assign a 1 or a 0 to each row:
IIF([Colour]="Red",1,0)
I then created the 'Number of Red Fruit/Vegetables' calculated field which uses IF logic to SUM the "Red" column when the Date = the Metric Date:
IF [Date] = [Metrics Date] THEN [Red] END
But it's throwing out a number that's way higher than it should be. (It should be 224, but I'm getting 1,120). I can't work out what it's doing to get the higher count.
I think a large part of my struggle is because I'm still stuck in the Excel mindset of using a "COUNTIFS" function to get the total. I just can't for the life of me figure out how to do the same in Tableau.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read all this and can offer some guidance.
TL;DR: How to I create a calculated field that spits out a single count of all the records where the data meets multiple criteria located across multiple fields?

2024.05.13 23:17 Reasonable-Use-9294 A review about the flawed masterpiece that COTE is by me :D

Finally i've finished reading every volume and, as someone who loves writing, here i am writing this review just to share my thoughts.
So, it's undeniable that COTE is edgy as hell. Just take a look at Tsukishiro randomly talking about a guy he just killed, BUT at the same time i feel like it makes sense for the series to have edgy elements when you consider the target audience and the elements the story has. It's not an happy story if you dive deep enough in it and can be rather depressive at times. Either way it's better to fully embrace the edge and just enjoy the series how it is since it's a very enjoyable story if you turn off your brain
The characters are what i think is the main appeal of the series. The cast is huuuuuuge as frick and most of the characters, while not very developed, are each flashed out on their own way, which makes them and their interactions with others very enjoyable and fun to read. Just look at a character like Kito who went from a random dude with a scary face to a full-ass character in y2v8 who was a blast to read alongside his interactions with Ryuen. We have the same with other characters like Ishizaki who went from a random Ryuen's pawn to a whole bro, Sudo who went from the everage short-tempered guy to a chad and Ibuki who went from a girl with anger issues to still a girl with anger issues but entertaining to read with her intractions with Horikita and sometimes Kushida. I won't call the cast deep or amazingly written. The only characters who have a superior level of writing are probably Koji and Ryuen but even they aren't that amazing, but that's okay. You don't need to write Guts 2.0 to make an enjoyable character. But now, alongside the characters, two problems surface. One about the community and one about the author. The first one, the one about the community, is that people seem to care only about feats. No one is gonna talk about a character who doesn't outsmart everyone in a single volume just for him to get humbled by Koji five seconds later. And this is what i consider to be an huuuge problem. I get that they are less amazing inside the story but if they're fun to read then aren't they good characters? I get the shit with Yagatwink because he had a disastrous end but with the rest? Why call Nagumo a fraud in the end? The way he lost made sense with his character. I feel like the fact that people only care about feats is what makes more minor characters Kanzaki, Hashimoto or heck even Matsushita, Ibuki or Morishita to be less talked about. I get it when a character is straight up annoying like Ichinose, Yagatwink, Airi, Yagabitch, Ecchinose, Yagamid or Ichinose but the rest feels a bit unnecessary. The second problem lies in the author and his inability to focus on one character properly. I like a large cast, and it's normal not to develop every character but it doesn't make sense to have important characters like Ichika, Kei or even Fuka to not get development because they're important to the story and are even fam favourites. Ichika was abandoned and was left to be a simp, while there was an huge room for development when it comes to her inability to make friends. Kei will probably develop in year 3 but for now she's an NPC and Kiryuin sadly has few appearances and don't get me started on the first years. I'll leave characters like Ishigami, Tsubaki and Koenji out of the picture because it makes sense for them to be a mystery at this point in the story
I shall avoid talking about fanservice because i want to preserve the few mental stability that i currently have
COTE also does a good job with its antagonists. While sadly year 2 was a bit lacking with Tsukishiro amd Yagami, the rest were great. Ryuen was a threat and you wanted to see him continue and take Koji out in the open and GOSH that fight in y1v7 was amazing even in the light novel. Arisu was great with more of an anti-hero type of character? She'll clearly have more screentime as a villain in y3 but for now she still did a great job. Then we have Nagumo who, at least for me, was defeated almost perfectly for his character and it was even sad. You can see the difference from Nagumo in the beginning and in the end. Then there are other characters who will probably become antagonists. The one i'm looking forward the most is clearly Koenji, who's probably better than Koji physically, and could leave a mark. Then there's Ishigami who will absolutely be an antagonist even if not for long and they better not mess that up or istg. Then Tsubaki, the one who probably has the lowest chances to be an antagonist but someone who could still be interesting to see. And then Horikita who will be almost 100% an antagonist for Koji if he ever switches classes. Then there's Atsuomi who i don't wanna talk about because he's a bit disappointing unless he really doesn't wanna Koji to be expelled
I won't really focus on the special exams, not because they're bad but because even today i still don't understand how 90% of them work so bear with me
Going back to character interactions, i feel like that's something the anime, or at least season 1, kinda nailed. S1E7 is one of the main proves of this. I felt as if the pool scene was better in the anime (fanservice excluded) than in the light novel. That was one of the few times i felt the characters mostly acted like kids who wanted to have fun (fanservice excluded) and that small and faint smile they gave to Koji, even if technically nonsensical and not canon, felt great and feels even better the more i read and come to understand him more. Same thing for the time he smiled in y2v10. That scene was very short but it felt amazing to read nonetheless. Character interactions are also the reasons why i love volumes like y1v8, y2v8 or some scenes in the .5 volumes. They just feel fun to read. Seeing Koji skiing with Kushida and Ryuen, even if they wanna see him in the ground and then take a selfie on his grave, felt great and even more after reading about Ryuen chuckling after seeing Koji fall. Or even the scene with Arisu and Koji eating the cake, something so simple but great to me
Now i'd like to talk a bit about Koji's character because he's probably the deepest and most well written in the series. Due to the anime, those yt videos and the Ayanokoji wannabe he became the epitome of the "oh my god he's literally me" and the average edgy character, which i find to be horrendous. I like the jokes about that but i can't stand when one is serious. We all know Koji's main motive in that school is probably just live a quiet life in peace just like a normal high schooler and when you stop and think about him... Goddammit his story is depressing. He never had a normal childhood and he developed a toxic mindset while being in the WR which ruined his life. He's so depressed and traumatised he can't even smile properly and his normal and mundane happy life is constantly ruined by troubles and sabotages by his father (if he really wants to expel him). I know he clearly doesn't have a problem with any of that because he's perfect and all, but having to deal with all of that consistently must suck even for him. Dude can't catch a break and i won't be surprised if we see him breaking at some point in the story (something i'm looking forward to). I just want someone to defeat him just so his father could leave him the fuck alone
Now that we're here, i think i can finally end this. It was short, yeah, but it was fun. COTE is what i consider to be a flawed masterpiece due to the way it keeps you reading but also make you question what the author is doing at times. It's good but it's also bad and i expected much worse in y2. There are obviously many disastrous nitpicks in the series. Ichinose is a whole damn example, but other than those problems, this series is amazing to me. But maybe i have written all wrong stuff and i've completely missed the point in the story, but i don't mind viewing it like this. It's a fun story that i hope won't fall from grace

2024.05.13 23:13 No-Map6818 How Language Influences Your Choices in Online Dating

When a dating app allowed users to mute specific words, phrases and emojis, singles quickly curated their lists. How did a few overused phrases become an “ick” for so many?
Being “fluent in sarcasm,” a love of tacos, an uncontroversial opinion followed by the words “change my mind.” These are a few well-trodden tropes of the online dating world, and there may be a linguistic explanation for why they don’t work on you.
The popular dating app Hinge added a new feature called Hidden Words this month. It allows users to hide the profiles of matches who use certain words, phrases or emojis in their messages.
Online singles were quick to express their eagerness to take advantage of a “mute” button for specific language that turned them off. “I wish I could mute the phrase ‘pineapple belongs on pizza,’” said Mitchell Allen, a 31-year-old in Toronto who uses Hinge and Bumble, and lamented a lack of meaningful connections on the apps. Mr. Allen said he would also mute any phrases relating to love languages and Myers-Briggs typology: “I don’t believe anyone who speaks like that lives in a universe of reality.”
Liking pineapple on pizza is innocent enough — but expressing it, according to much of the online dating world, is intolerable. And those using such clichés may not realize that they’ve consigned themselves to semantic purgatory.
All dating apps allow users to filter potential matches according to their age, gender and proximity (most also paywall other filters), effectively rendering invisible those who don’t fit the bill. But users’ enthusiasm for a filter according to word choice exposes just how specific their dislikes, or icks, can be.
Malia Griggs, a 34-year-old who lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., said that she couldn’t help being turned off by poor grammar, such as someone using the wrong “you’re” or “their” in a message or profile.
“I wish I could filter for punctuation almost,” Ms. Griggs said. She admitted that, while her dating coach had encouraged her to view habits like spelling and grammar as changeable, she continued to see both as a definitive sexual turnoff. “To me, it feels like you’re not taking the time to even read your own profile a couple of times, and we don’t have the same values. My values are grammar.”
Even if spelling errors and grammar aren’t holistic indicators of a person’s dateability, the best online connections are often forged by finding those who communicate through screens the same way you do.
This is often called “typographical tone of voice,” a phrase coined by Gretchen McCulloch, a popular internet linguist, to describe how online writing has come to contain the same social nuance as face-to-face interactions. It may follow, then, that glib statements such as “no drama” and “since apparently it matters” convey far more than those writing them realize — including an inability to read the (virtual) room.
“A lot of these cliché phrases, a lot of people take them to imply something else,” said Erika Ettin, an online dating coach in New York City. “‘No drama,’ for example, might be a euphemism for ‘Don’t bring up your issues to me because I don’t want to hear about them.’”
Having spent years swiping for her clients, Ms. Ettin said she wasn’t surprised to hear that daters could get the ick from an idiom.
“I mean, I could go on all day about the cliché phrases that everyone is sick of,” she said, listing off a series of generalizations of abundant variety — including “I like to go out” and “I like to stay in” — and the bizarrely pervasive love of tacos. “Like, OK, tacos are fine, but gee whiz.”
Adele Goldberg, a professor of linguistics and psychology at Princeton University, suggested that associating a simple phrase and the negative conversations that often follow it might eventually make the two synonymous in daters’ minds.
“This is basically priming,” Professor Goldberg said. “If you hear the word ‘apple,’ the commonly associated word ‘orange’ will also come to mind.” Using a word or emoji that had been primed to be associated with something else in recipients’ minds — like an eggplant emoji (apple) and a particular body part (orange) — was unlikely to pass muster, she said, even if the sender intended it innocently or ironically.
Ms. Ettin was skeptical that certain words could be divorced from their double-entendres on dating apps and was confident in banning a word like “oral” from exchanges. “I don’t think anyone’s talking about an oral report in the first message,” she said. “‘How was your oral report on Woodrow Wilson?’ I don’t think so.”
Reached for comment, a Hinge representative emphasized that Hidden Words was primarily a safety feature and a means of “giving people the agency to create personal boundaries around the types of interactions they want to have.”
But in a swipe-addled era that has increasingly led hopeful romantics to burn out, app users’ boundaries may be a barrier to interaction itself. Ms. Griggs would be happy never to see a profile referring to “The Office” again: “We’ve all seen it. Like, I don’t … it doesn’t even matter if it’s a good show anymore. Get a new show.”
How Language Influences Your Choices in Online Dating - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
What wors/phrases would you add? I would add the words fit, cuddle, physical touch is my love language, just ask...

2024.05.13 23:13 Tacitus2389b4h5ii405 Raid Mechanics Spotlight 3

Raid Mechanics Spotlight 3

Raid Mechanics Spotlight 3:

Defensive Debuffs

\*Please note that the strategies covered here are not original to the author. Often, these strategies are collaborative works which have been developed by communities over time***

Overview:

Defensive debuffs can be used to increase damage to a raid boss significantly. Combining these with other support methods and offensive buffs can end raids in as little as one or two turns. Specific debuffs can be used to reduce Defense or Special Defense through the raid boss’s shield as well, something particularly useful in event raids.

Details:

Defensive debuffs work by changing the stat stages of a Pokémon, which changes the damage multiplier used during damage calculations. For a more thorough break down of stat stages, see the Raid Mechanics Spotlight 1. The table of damage multipliers has been included below.
Stat Stage Multiplier Table
Defensive debuffs put negative stat stages on a target. This multiplier then reduces the associated defense accordingly. So, for example, a raid boss who has negative four stat stages on their Defense will have their Defense multiplied by one third during damage calculations.
Defensive debuffs can be divided into two categories: Physical Defense debuffs and Special Defense debuffs. Those can be further subdivided into status moves and damaging moves. Status moves cannot be used through shield and can be disabled by Taunt. Damaging moves can be used through shield and cannot be disabled by Taunt, but are very limited in which Pokémon have them.
Physical Defensive Status debuff moves are: Screech, Leer, Tail Whip, Tickle, and Spicy Extract. Leer and Tail Whip aren't used as often as other moves on this list because they only lower Defense by one stat stage. Tickle also lowers Defense by one stat stage but it lowers Attack by one stat stage at the same time which can be particularly useful against bosses which buff themselves before the raid begins.
Screech is by far the most commonly used Physical Defensive Status debuff as it is available on a wide variety of Pokémon and it lowers Defense by two stat stages. The major drawback of Screech is its Accuracy which is only 85%; however, there are a number of ways to mitigate this. One way is with held items. Wide Lens can be used to increase Accuracy by 10%, which will make Screech’s Accuracy about 93%. This improvement isn't perfect, but many raiders find it sufficient for every day raids because often, if Screech does miss, they can simply use Screech again the next turn without fear of being knocked out or running out of time in their strategy. For event raids and farming raids for resources though, 93% isn't the best option. That's where Zoom Lens comes in. Zoom Lens increases accuracy by 20% as long as the user is slower than the target. This leads many raiders to make Screech supports with 0 Speed IVs and Relaxed or Sassy natures to get their Speed as low as possible. Popular Zoom Lens Screechers include Umbreon, Perrserker, both forms of Muk, Corviknight, Bastiodon, and Snorlax.
Items aren't the only way to increase Accuracy. Moves such as Gravity, Defog, and Sweet Scent can reduce raid boss Evasion, which is the same as boosting Accuracy. Additionally, Dipplin and Hydrapple have the ability Supersweet Syrup which lowers the Evasion of opposing Pokémon by one stage. There's also an ability called Compound Eyes which increases accuracy by 30%. Venonat is often used as a Screecher because it has Compound Eyes and has good bulk when it holds Eviolite, which increases both of its defenses by 50%. Yanma, Joltik, and Galvantula also have Compound Eyes and the move Screech, but aren't used as often for various reasons including lack of access to a Special Defense debuff move.
Spicy Extract is a very special debuff move because it is also a buff move. It lowers Defense by two stages and increases Attack by two stages. This can be a valuable tool but it can be dangerous as well. It shouldn't be used against a raid boss with a physical attack. If Spicy Extract is used on the raid boss, a raider can copy the Attack boost using the held item Mirror Herb. Using Simple Beam on the raid boss before Spicy Extract doubles both the debuff and buff and can be used to end raids as quickly as one turn if used correctly. For more information on Simple Beam and an example strategy using Simple Beam, Spicy Extract, and Mirror Herb, see the Raid Mechanics Spotlight 1. Spicy Extract is only available to Scovillain currently.
Physical Defensive Damaging debuff moves are: Fire Lash, Grav Apple, and Thunderous Kick. In Scarlet and Violet, each of these moves is only available on one Pokémon naturally (though Smeargle can learn them using Sketch) which greatly limits their use. Fire Lash is learned by Salazzle. Grav Apple is learned by Flapple. Neither of these is particularly bulky and isn't the best support for long raids, making them not particularly popular. Thunderous Kick is learned by Galarian Zapdos which, while reasonably bulky, doesn't possess a great deal of other support moves and isn't the most widely available Pokémon, only being available in Sword and Shield DLC or Pokémon GO. It should also be noted that all three of these moves only drop Defense by one stage, which is fairly slow compared to the Special Defense options in the damaging category.
While the above moves guarantee a Defense stat stage decrease, there are also a number of moves which have a chance to lower Defense. These can be useful in a pinch and as a backup moves, but aren't reliable enough to plan strategies around. These moves are Crunch, Crush Claw, Iron Tail, Liquidation, Razor Shell, Rock Smash, and Triple Arrows. Some of these moves have a drop chance as high as 50%, while others are significantly lower. Theoretically, Serene Grace could be Skill Swapped onto a Pokémon with access to one of the moves with a 50% drop chance, but in practice this is slow and not usually worth it or required.
Special Defense Status debuff moves are: Fake Tears and Metal Sound. Metal Sound has the same Accuracy as Screech. This makes Fake Tears far more common to use as it is 100% accurate. This allows Fake Tears users to hold an item like Covert Cloak to avoid secondary effects instead of holding a Wide or Zoom Lens without the need to increase accuracy through other methods.
Special Defense Damaging debuff moves are: Acid Spray, Apple Acid, and Lumina Crash. Acid Spray is the move common mainly due to the fact that it has the most possible users. It lowers Special Defense by two stages, which is extremely useful when compared to similar options on the Physical Defensive Damaging debuff side. Many, though by no means all, Acid Spray users have a Poison typing which can limit usage in raids where the boss has moves which are super effective against Poison Types. It should also be noted that Acid Spray will not work on Steel Tera bosses. Notable Acid Spray users are Venonat, Hisuian Qwilfish, both forms of Muk, Arbok, and Goodra.
Apple Acid and Lumina Crash are both limited to one Pokémon each currently (Smeargle notwithstanding). Apple Acid drops Special Defense by one stat stage and is only available to Appletun. What makes this move particularly useful is Appletun’s bulk and access to Giga Drain, which makes it an excellent solo raider. Lumina Crash, like Acid Spray, drops Special Defense by two stages and is available to Espathra. Unlike Acid Spray, Lumina Crash can be used against Steel Tera, but it cannot be
Like the Physical Defensive Damaging debuffs category, the Special Defense Damaging debuffs category has moves which have a chance to drop Special Defense but aren't guaranteed and thus aren't recommended for planning strategies. These moves are: Acid, Bug Buzz, Earth Power, Energy Ball, Flash Cannon, Focus Blast, Luster Purge, Psychic, Seed Flare, and Shadow Ball.
While debuffs in these categories can be extremely useful, there are a few things which can render them useless. One thing is certain abilities. If the attacker in your raid has the ability Unaware, it will ignore all stat changes to either defense, including your debuffs. Additionally, Pokémon with the ability Clear Body cannot be debuffed. The ability Contrary will reverse debuffs, making them buffs instead. Similarly, when a Pokémon with Defiant or Competitive is debuffed, their Attack or Special Attack, respectively, will increase by two stages. These abilities can be changed or neutralized using a move like Gastro Acid in order to make use of debuffs. For damaging moves to debuff, they must be able to hit their target. This means that Acid Spray will not work on Steel targets, Lumina Crash will not work on Dark targets, Apple Acid will not work on targets with the Sap Sipper ability, Fire Lash will not work on targets with the Flash Fire ability, and Thunderous Kick will not work on Ghost targets. Though raid bosses do not normally get items, theoretically if one were to hold a Clear Amulet they couldn't be debuffed until the item was knocked off using Knock Off. Raid bosses are also able to clear their stats and negative effects, which means that their negative stat stages will return to zero (though this will not affect their positive stat changes). The moves Clear Smog and Haze will remove all stat changes, both positive and negative. Clear Smog affects one target while Haze affects every Pokémon active on the field. The move Mist prevents all debuffs on the user. Mist can be cleared using Defog or bypassed using a Pokémon with the Infiltrator ability.
For those looking for a solid team of debuffers to start their raid team, this author recommends the following builds for Umbreon, Perrserker, and Muk.
These builds and Pokémon give you a variety of options to overcome obstacles. Together, they are strong against a number of types with one often covering the weaknesses of the others. Additional, these Pokémon are all slow, allowing for them to be used as Zoom Lens Screechers. They all also possess both physical and special defensive debuffs, with one of them even possessing a Special Defense Damaging debuff. While they will not cover every single situation, they will cover a great number of situations and allow for new raiders to find a place in most raids.
Note that the above builds are designed as Balanced Builds, which may not suit every situation but are designed to take the least amount of damage from both physical and special attacks. The given IVs are ideal IVs, but are by no means required for most situations. The Speed IVs tend to be more important due to the requirements of Zoom Lens, but plenty of raids will not require 0 Speed IVs.

Examples:

Here are some examples of specific strategies where debuffs can be used:

Basic Example:

Defensive Debuffs Basic Example
This is a two turn example strategy using Screech against a Bug Tera Goodra. Bug Tera was chosen to showcase this strategy against a type which takes super effective damage against Fire type moves, which we are using for the Attacker.
This example strategy begins, like many others, with buffs and debuffs changing stat stages. All of these actions happen at approximately the same time. Charizard uses Belly Drum to increase its Attack to the maximum six stages. Belly Drum also takes half of Charizard's HP, but a portion is restored using the Sitrus Berry. Mew uses Helping Hand to boost Charizard's next damaging move by 50%. Because this effect isn't used until Charizard uses a damaging move, it doesn't matter if Charizard uses Belly Drum before or after Mew uses Helping Hand.
Both Umbreons use Screech twice. Since the maximum amount a stat can be lowered is six stages, one of these Screeches is technically not needed, but for the sake of simplicity and ease of execution, the action has been included for both Umbreons. This way, both Umbreons do the same thing in both turns, rather than trying to do different things and possibly causing confusion among the players. These Screeches are all 100% accurate because Umbreon is holding a Zoom Lens and is naturally slower than Goodra as long as Umbreon has 0 Speed IVs and a Sassy nature.
To add a final extra boost, Mew uses an Attack Cheer to further boost damage from the team by 50%. This stacks with the boost from Helping Hand as well. Charizard then uses Temper Flare to achieve a One Hit Knock Out (OHKO) on Goodra.
This strategy can be found in the TRB here

The following are more advanced strategies that make use of Raid Mechanics which may be covered in future Spotlights:

Simple Spice:

https://preview.redd.it/p0yhhpe3e90d1.png?width=3600&format=png&auto=webp&s=02d2c0975504bec84b22b44cee1eb2cc306fb4da
This is a single turn example strategy using Simple Beam and Spicy Extract against a Psychic Tera Frosmoth. Psychic Tera was chosen to showcase this strategy against a type which takes super effective damage against Dark type moves, which we are using for the Attacker.
Spicy Extract, combined with Simple Beam, gives the Frosmoth raid boss 4 stages of Attack and minus 4 stages of Defense. Because Frosmoth has no physical attacks to make use of the 4 stages of Attack, this is fairly safe, but with other bosses, such as the Goodra above, this strategy would be much more dangerous. The fact that Frosmoth is a special attacker is also why Spoink was chosen over a similar Simple Beam Support like Golduck since it has particularly high Special Defense.
The Kingambit attacker copies the positive stat changes from Spicy Extract using the Mirror Herb that it holds, giving Kingambit 4 stages of Attack as well. When it does this, the Mirror Herb is used up. Florges then gives Kingambit the Choice Band using its Symbiosis ability. Florges further supports Kingambit by using Attack Cheer, though Helping Hand could be used instead. All of this gives Kingambit the strength it needs to achieve a one turn OHKO.
This strategy can be found in the TRB here

Acid Spray and Fake Tears:

Defensive Debuffs Acid Spray and Fake Tears Example
This is a three turn example strategy using Acid Spray and Fake Tears against a Grass Tera Vaporeon. Grass Tera was chosen to showcase this strategy against a type which takes not very effective damage to Electric type damage in order to showcase a high level of damage without the fear of overflow. Note that while this strategy is a three turn example, some may refer to it as a 2.25 turn example. The .25 indicates that only a single Pokémon moves on the third turn.
As the raid begins, Hadron Engine summons Electric Terrain before anything else can happen. The Electric Terrain will prevent Vaporeon from putting any of the raiders to sleep with Yawn and increase the power of Electric type moves by 30%. Additionally, the terrain activates Hadron Engine, which increases Miraidon’s Special Attack, and Quark Drive on Iron Moth. Iron Moth’s build has been designed specifically to ensure Quark Drive increases its Special Defense by 30% rather than its naturally high Special Attack. This is in contrast to the other builds which focus on overall damage mitigation, what is often referred to as Balanced or Optimal builds. An Iron Moth Balanced build would have 252 EVs in Defense and an Impish nature, rather than the 252 Special Defense EVs and Careful nature this Iron Moth has. Thanks to the extra Special Defense EVs, its Assault Vest held item, and the Special Defense boost from Quark Drive, Iron Moth is able to survive up to three critical hits from this Vaporeon, despite being weak to its Surf attack. Note that if the Tera type for Vaporeon was changed, Iron Moth and the other raiders might not survive as well due to the inclusion of Tera Blast in Vaporeon’s moves. This strategy would also be completely useless against a Ground Tera Vaporeon since Electric type attacks cannot hit Ground types.
The order of moves in the first turn doesn't matter, though this is not the case for turn two. Tinkatuff, aided in its survival by Eviolite, uses Fake Tears to lower Vaporeon's Special Defense by two stages. Iron Moth similarly uses Acid Spray to lower Vaporeon's Special Defense by two stages. Florges uses Helping Hand, which will persist on Miraidon until Miraidon uses a damaging move. This means that despite Miraidon using status moves in this strategy, the Helping Hand boost will not be used until it attacks. On the first turn, Miraidon uses Calm Mind to increase its Special Attack and Special Defense by one stage each.
On the second turn, move order is more important. Tinkatuff must move after Miraidon to avoid having Miraidon trapped using Charge by Choice Specs. So Miraidon, Iron Moth, and Flores move before Tinkatuff. Miraidon uses Charge, which increases its Special Defense by one stage and doubles the power of the next damaging Electric type move it uses. Iron Moth uses Acid Spray to lower Vaporeon's Special Defense another two stages for a total of six stages, which is the maximum it can be lowered. Florges uses an Attack Cheer to further boost damage done by its team. Then, Tinkatuff uses Fairy Wind on Miraidon. Since Fairy Wind is super effective on Miraidon, this activates Miraidon's Weakness Policy, the which increases Miraidon's Attack and Special Attack by two stages each. This puts Miraidon at a total of three stages of Special Attack. Once the Weakness Policy is used up, Florges passes its Choice Specs to Miraidon using its Symbiosis ability. Note that Symbiosis passes the held item of the Pokémon with that ability to which Pokémon uses an item first. To avoid having the Choice Specs passed to the wrong Pokémon, Miraidon is the only Pokémon in this strategy with a consumable item.
With the boosts from Calm Mind and Weakness Policy, the boost from Choice Specs, the debuffs from Fake Tears and Acid Spray, the boost from Helping Hand, the boost from Attack Cheer, and the boosts from Electric Terrain and Hadron Engine, Miraidon is able to knock out Vaporeon using one Electro Drift despite Vaporeon's Tera type resisting Electric damage.
This strategy can be found in the TRB here

Summary:

Defensive debuffs are at the heart of most raids strategies and provide a way to deal massive damage to raid bosses with each hit. Most debuffs are status moves, but some are damaging moves which can be useful in cases where a raid boss summons a shield.

2024.05.13 23:10 JESUS_rose_to_life [undergraduate] what is a simple example of a proposition that cannot be rewritten to have its universal or existential quantifiers removed ?

what is a simple example of a proposition that cannot be rewritten to have its universal or existential quantifiers removed ?
i heard that "for all x" means "for all x that is part of a universe U" ?
therefore ∀x P(x) means ∀x∈U P(x) ?
could that be rewritten just as x∈U→P(x) and stated as "if x is in U , then P(x)" ? and then a universal quantifier is not needed ?
consider "for all pairs of integers x and y , they have an integer sum z and twice that sum is the sum of twice x and twice y"
that is : ∀x ∀y ∃z ( x+y=z ∧ 2z=2x+2y )
using the idea from above , then could the proposition be rewritten as : (x∈ℤ ∧ y∈ℤ) → ∃z (x+y=z ∧ 2z=2x+2y) ?
and then to get rid of the existential quantifier , could this be written :
(x∈ℤ ∧ y∈ℤ) → ((x+y)∈ℤ ∧ ( x+y=z → 2z=2x+2y )) ?
as far as i can tell "they have an integer sum z" is covered by "(x+y)∈ℤ" and then since z is needed in 2z=2x+2y , then it is "defined" in an antecedent
if this is all a correct rewriting of propositions , it got me wondering when this sort of thing cannot be done hence :
what is a simple example of a proposition that cannot be rewritten to have its universal or existential quantifiers removed ?

2024.05.13 23:08 Disastrous-Slice-157 Sailing into the wind and with a net upward force against gravity.

I've always wondered about why and how antigravity is not possible. Clever geometry of the sail and angle of attack allows you to sail upward directly into the wind. By essentially resulting in a net force against the wind. This is the only example I know of movment in the opposite firection against a force. I'm curious since since gravity isn't actually a force, and spacetime is a Lorenz manifold and not that simple. Is it possible for some clever geometry and mass distribution to sail "against gravity"?

2024.05.13 22:51 verciusss Can we talk for a moment about how well hexside was handled by Dana Terrace?

One of the things I appreciated most about the owl house was the hexside, or at least how it was treated. It is a magic school in a fantasy world, which the protagonist begins to attend despite being someone unusual, at least for that school. Does it remind you of anything? And despite this, it hasn't become a clone of Harry Potter, like The Worst Witch and many other series like that. Why? Because hexside was a school. Just a school and nothing else. If you take, for example, Wensday, the Worst Witch or even Percy Jackson, you will see how the school in question becomes much more than a school. It essentially becomes the center of the protagonist's life (not really for Percy Jackson, he too somehow managed to free himself from Harry Potter's influence but in a different way), with all the events that happen in the school and concern the school. Instead the hexside is just that: a school. Nothing more, nothing less. It is used as a pretext to make Luz more powerful, it is the setting of various episodes (some parodies of Harry Potter), it even becomes the base of the rebels. But never, NEVER on toh will the hexside have such a central role as to make the owl house considered "a harry potter clone". It may seem like a simple thing, but it is much more difficult than it seems

2024.05.13 22:41 holisticlife5500 Features that Define The Style of The Modern Kitchen Cabinets

Are you looking forward to installing modern-styled cabinets in your kitchen but don’t know many things about them? If yes, then continue reading. In browsing the web for the latest kitchen design ideas, we came across the top-trending cabinet designs, modern kitchen cabinets.
In this article, we have explained everything we discovered about these amazing types of kitchen cabinets. Read on to know the features that you must consider reviewing when buying modern-styled kitchen cabinets.

Modern Kitchen Cabinets Explained

Generally, modern-styled pantries are defined by simple designs marked by angular shapes, flat-paneled doors, and minute decorative features. To be specific, below are the defining attributes of modern-styled kitchen cabinets
1. Modern Kitchen Cabinet Material
Unlike traditional cupboards, which are mostly defined by artificial materials, modern kitchen cabinets come with blends of natural and man-made textures, from material to ornamentation. Typically, these drawers feature natural wood as the material component and industrial materials, for example, fiberboard, plastics, metals, and laminate materials as accessories or ornamental features.
2. Modern Kitchen Cabinet Color
Modern cabinets are genuinely very colorful. While it’s possible to find modern-styled cupboards adorned with traditional colors like cream and white, the majority of these drawers are defined by brighter tones. For decades, they have been coming out in all types of contemporary paint, including popular shades like pink, green, and red.
3. Modern Kitchen Cabinet Accessories
Because their designs stress simplicity, modern kitchen cabinets are typically defined by minimalism in terms of ornamentation. Nonetheless, their fewer accessorized components feature luxurious materials, for example, metals like stainless steel, copper, and gold, all of which are great in enhancing their overall visual aesthetic property.
4. Modern Kitchen Cabinet Doors
As initially observed, one of the highlights of modern cabinets is their flat-paneled doors. Whereas earlier models feature wood slab doors with recessed center panels, the latest modern kitchen cabinet varieties are highlighted by glass slab doors adorned with metallic fixtures, for example, golden knobs and hinges.

What is the Cost of Modern Kitchen Cabinets?

Because of their luxurious features courtesy of modern industrial materials, modern kitchen cabinets are slightly more expensive, especially when compared to traditional cabinets, for example, traditional farmhouse kitchen cabinets. Thankfully, these drawers are exceptionally high-quality, which is a fact that makes them the go-to designs although they are expensive.
Because they come in different styles, colors, shapes, and sizes, modern cabinets vary in terms of cost of purchase and installation. The following tips can help you to find modern-styled cupboards whose prices you can afford without having to break the bank.
#1: Consider the Cabinet Material
The material component that defines a given type of modern-styled cabinets can reveal to you the cost of that cabinet design. While cabinets made up of durable materials are expensive in terms of cost of purchase, they come with a guarantee of serving you for as long as you want them to.
Kitchen cabinets engineered from less durable materials, for example, fiberboard and a few laminate materials, are less costly in terms of purchase. However, such drawers can end up wasting all your money on repairs and refurbishments based on their unlimited susceptibility to tear and wear.
#2: Consider the Cabinet Manufacturer or Vendor
If you choose to buy modern kitchen cabinets from fake vendors or manufacturers, you can easily end up spending excessive amounts of cash for substandard types of cabinets. But if you decide to buy cabinets from legitimate manufacturers or vendors, you will get access to high-quality cabinet designs at prices that you can easily afford.
Therefore, if you want to find modern cabinets that will give value for your money, always consider where you intend to make your purchase. Reading customer reviews on different online shopping platforms that deal with modern-styled cabinets can help you spot the perfect place to make a purchase.

Are Modern Kitchen Cabinets Worth It?

Considering the remarkable features that define them, modern cupboards seem perfect for any kitchen interior design. To be specific, modern-styled kitchen cabinets are worth it based on the following.
1. Simplified Interior Design
Because they can match a myriad and kitchen designs, modern kitchen cabinets are valuable in terms of making any interior design process fun and effortless. Regardless of how less-proficient you are in beautifying a kitchen interior, you can achieve any kitchen interior outlook if you work with modern-styled cupboards.
The majority of colors or shades that these drawers come with are compatible with lots of other different colors. The majority of modern cabinets, therefore, are held in high esteem because of the convenience of styling them.
2. Functionality
From varieties made up of natural materials to those featuring mixtures of artificial and man-made materials, modern cupboards are all about practicability. With their simple designs, you can pair them with anything to achieve any interior outlook. Because of the typical materials they come with, all varieties of modern cabinets are easier to maintain in the sense that they are difficult to scratch and stain.
3. Cost Effectiveness
Modern kitchen cabinets are also worth it based on their durability standard. Even though they can at times be costlier to acquire, these drawers can provide service for years without showing any need for repair or refurbishment. Consequently, all modern cabinet models are known to fetch better resale prices.
Moreover, unlike some types of cabinets which are costlier in terms of maintenance, modern-styled cupboards are less expensive to maintain. With undoubtedly strong water and scratch-resistant properties, modern-styled drawers don’t require constant cleaning, which is justifiably cost-effective.
4. Multiple Design Options
Considering how modern kitchen cabinets come in a myriad of varieties, including varieties with traditional features, they provide multiple design options that homeowners can choose from when modeling their cookhouses. Therefore, regardless of whether your kitchen seems modern or traditional, modern-styled cupboards can work best for your interior design needs.

Final Thoughts

If you have ever wanted to install modern-looking cabinets in your kitchen, you need to do that now. Modern kitchen cabinets are not only in fashion but also the top-trending cabinet designs. From their colors and ornamentation features to shapes and layouts, the highlight of these drawers is their visual attractiveness. Modern-styled cabinets are versatile, cost-effective, and uniquely functional.

2024.05.13 22:32 CorrectDot4592 Is Magneto "power" out of date?

Weird question, but I have no better way to express it. It's said that Magneto is the lord of magnetism; his mutant power is to manipulate magnetic fields. But the extension and uses of this power go beyond simple abuse. The best and most stupid example is the fact he is kind of "invulnerable" to firearms using his magnetic field to protect himself by deflecting bullets. Only that lead is not magnetic at all, his powers should useless against it!!!
Talk about flying, how can he defy gravity with magnetism? "The iron on his body is subject to magnetism, so he simply manipulates it, kind of repelling it from the ground!" Yeah, only that a person has in total about 4 grams of iron scattered on the whole body. Hard to think so insignificant particles could hold an adult hovering above ground, let alone make him fly freely.
He could manipulate body of metals like cars (maybe forging some kind of shield or armor for protection) , destroy infrastructure like buildings (given the iron on its foundations/walls), create EMPs and cause havoc with electronics/vehicles in a given radius, and even isntakill any enemy by manipulating those 4 grams of iron on the enemy's body into a needle to the heart/brain. But aside from that, all the other uses for his so called magnetic power does not seem magnetic at all.
I get that (almost) every mutant has a unique signature power and sometimes these powers are stretched way beyond logic. But in Magnetos case his feats seem more telekinesis than magnetism per se.

2024.05.13 22:29 Ok_Potato7693 Go-to Perspective-Taking / Emotions Questions?

Hi! I virtually evaluate kids ranging from 4-10 who are suspected to be Autistic. I'm evaluating their language primarily, using the CELF, but I also spend a little bit of time looking at their social communication skills during each eval. I work as part of an interdisciplinary team and the physician often asks me about their social skills. I know there are tons of things on TPT that look at social skills, but nothing I've seen really fits my needs.
Do you guys have any go-to questions that you like to ask to give you some insight into things such as perspective-taking ability or ability to recognize emotions? For example, one that I often ask is "How would your friend feel if they accidently broke your toy?" I need more options because that one seems to be too simple for a lot of kids.

A Magic Bullet to many problems in the game: provide enemy information at loadout
The more I think about it, the more it seems that providing enemy composition at loadout could instantly solve or alleviate a lot of the current problems and enormously facilitate weapon balance in the future. However, it could be tricky to implement.
\"Death by 1000 hunters\", E-710 on canvas
So here are two things: problems it could solve and ideias to implement it without reducing the challenge
__________________________________________________________________________
Here are the problems it could solve:
Weapon diversity/balance:
  • I believe the general power of weapons should be increased, but even in its current state we could see some weapons being more used an more successful if only we knew what kind of enemy we are gonna face. I can see myself picking a punisher plasma against bugs if we're gonna face hordes of bile spewers/nurses/hive defenders. Right now one the biggest offenders of weapon balance/pick rates is the necessity for flexibility. These makes some weapons so much more favored. More so on the bug front.
  • Examples: I rarely pick anything other than Breaker Incendiary (shriekers and hunters) or Blitzer (stalkers) and that still leaves me open to spewers, so I compliment that with Autocannon. No matter the mission, that covers all bases for me. If I knew that a certain mission would be a hunter fest, I would leave the Plapper home and try something else. This is just my personal experience.
  • This is less prevalent on the bot front, but I also think the bot front could use a bit less heterogeneous enemy composition, like suggest already on this sub. I would love to see a composition that forced me to go long range/snipe or close range unit spam or whatever. God I want to spend 30 min setting Berserkers on fire.
Armor and booster diversity:
  • Same logic as weapons, but with the added caveat that they need to be reworked. Specially armor, It's clearly the biggest failure in this game. So much lost potential. But, for the future, more specialized armors could prove fun/useful if once we know of a particular enemy composition we are about to face. Can you imagine a world in which Hunters don't slow you and Spewers don't insta kill you regardless of armor level? In that world, we could see the prevalence of Scout Armor drop when facing slow but harder hitting enemies. Right now you need scout for bugs and that's it.
  • Same applies to boosters, provided they buff some unused ones. But very specialized boosters could be pretty cool once the team know we are about to face a fuck ton of slows or flinches, for instante.
Eagle/Orbital/Sentry choice:
  • If I knew we were gonna have just a fuck ton of Bile Titans, I would have picked one more anti-tank stratagem. And that would make Bile Titan less oppressive, and fighting hordes of them would be fun instead of annoying.
  • I pick stratagems mostly based on bug/bots or mission type, so maybe they won't be too affected by enemy composition. But the positive effect on the weapons could spill to stratagems.
__________________________________________________________________________
How to implement without braking the game's challenge:
The last thing we want is a pasteurized experience. All missions should have diversity, but the prevalence should be communicated. Here is some ideias to implement:
  • Simple texts, saying things like "expect many breaches and swarms of small creatures.". We would still get chargers, titan, occasional spewer to make sure you get fucked here and there.
  • "It has been observed many terminid structures in the planet". Indicating spore, shriekers.
  • "The bots on this planet are adopting an aggressive and fast approach" meaning berserkers, backpack dude, hulks, whatever
  • Again, we should still see a variety of enemies in every mission.
  • "Expect air-based defense". Meaning bring one of the 3 things that can deal with gunships. We don't know how many, and we could have a fuckton of them again, without it being impossible, just really fucked up
__________________________________________________________________________
Results: on mission loadout, you do the maths combining environment, mission type, enemy loadout, modifiers and suddenly you open the gates for diversity.
Overall, I don't know how hard it would be to implement it without allowing for players to "dodge" enemy types. Wr are Helldivers we must face whatever it comes at us. Maybe tie enemy comp to planet? Operation? IDK the salaried employees can figure this one out.

Hello all,
Apologies if this gets asked a lot or this is too simple a question. I’m very new to modding, and have played Skyrim to death on PS4 (with my last playthrough being 3+ years ago). I’m really excited to download a mod list and re-experience the game on PC, just not sure which one would be the best for what I want.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
Stuff I’m curious about but not a dealbreaker:
I was looking at Wildlander and Elysium (though I’m a bit worried about stability with Elysium, as well as if it can run on my rig). Another one I’ve been looking at is Do Not Go Gently. Still not sure what is best.
My Rig: Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3060 ti

2024.05.13 22:16 WhatsUpLabradog Why isn't the text editor improved in mobile?

It is not all that well implemented and there are several bugs.
First, while making a new post or in comments (that applies to desktop as well) you can only use the Markdown editor.
Second, if you want to make a simple line break you must use the Markdown editor and add to the end of the line \ or more cumbersomely
>

Third, it seems to ruin formatting such as Markdown line breaks when returning to edit a post. Another example is trying to make a set of parentheses as superscript in the rich text editor not applying to the closing parenthesis. You need to use the Markdown editor and write it like this: ^((text)^)
But the second ^ also gets deleted when returning to edit the post.
Please consider ironing these out. Thanks.

2024.05.13 22:10 thisandyrose How to maintain query speed when usig dynamic languages with tsvector types

I have a very simple implementation of fulltext search whereby, when I create a "SearchDocument" record I store the language of the text (for example english), and then I store the content using
 to_tsvector('english', 'the content')
in a tsvector column.
Now, as you can imagine, different records have different languages. So I need to store the language the to_tsvector used so that I know which language to use during query time.
I do all this preprosseing upfront since write time is not so important for us, and we want to optimize for fast query times.
I also index the tsvector colum using a GIN index.
This has usually been fast enough. However I have found that when searching for upwards of 500k rows, it's not fast for our needs. Queries were taking about 3 seconds to run. I couldn't work out what was causing the slowdown at first.
The way we searh is something like this
to_tsquery(language_column::regconfig, 'searh query')
I tried several things, none of them made it faster. The I swapped out language_column::regconfig for a hard coded value of "english", just to test it.
This changed the qeury time from 3 seconds to about 400ms. And also drastically reduced the cost of the query.
So, what is causing this slow down?
I've tried indexing the language column using a standard B-tree index, and nothing. I also tried to index the tsvector column AND language column together in a gin index.. but I'm not sure that makes sense, and regardless it didn't make a difference.
I'm considering just dropping the language support altogether and just using a simple dictionary which I can then hardcode to maintain query peformance.. but that's a shame as I'm starting to wonder if, without the language dictionaries, is there any advantage of using tsvector over say, just a standard similarity trifram search...? (right now I'm doing both to optimize results.. note this is not the source of the slow down, its the language column).
Is what I'm trying to do achievable? How can you know which langauage to use at query time if you don't know what language was used to index that content??

2024.05.13 22:05 20sareoverrated Xavier - Lumiere Myth pair discussion

Xavier is just a huge box of green flags as a boyfriend. He dotes on us constantly and is nursing us back to health when we are injured. I love how the game explores the idea of Xavier being worried if we love him for who he really is vs. the fantasy we have of him (Lumiere) in our head. Lumiere is a persona he assumes when he has to fight large hordes of wanderers, and killing is something he feels very conflicted about doing. He also seems to prefer an uncomplicated, simple, peaceful life to one of being idolized. It’s ironic how Xavier is a fantasy 2D boyfriend but also in the game he wants to be loved for the “real” him. Real him wants to tend to flowers, cuddle, play video games, and do normal things. So often in dating we realize that sometimes we love or are loved for the idea of who we are instead of who we want to be. We don’t want people to admire us for just our accomplishments or what we can do for them, we want people who love us no matter what and truly adore our company.
Gameplay: Lumiere as a battle companion is excellent for crowd control. I love the incorporation of moon phases into his animation. Ardent oath and resonance skills will drop you somewhere far from your attackers so you can attack from a safe distance. I love how it fits with Xavier’s habit of creating both personal distance in our relationship and trying to get us out of harm’s way to keep us safe. Lumiere might not be an ideal companion for fights where you’re facing one big boss because basically you’ll be spending precious seconds trying to run closer to whatever you’re attacking, and he keeps pushing you out of the way.
Other notes: I always wonder how Zayne and Xavier’s interactions are since they’re the two who seem to be most likely to run into each other while one is with the MC. For example, Xavier is talking about taking her to her doctor’s appointment, and while the storylines are separated, it’s implied they all exist in the same universe. And it also seems that in the separate love storylines the boys consider themselves to be in an exclusive relationship with MC. Xavier often says he can hear us in our apartment - does that mean he heard “Cozy Afternoon” and “Business Trip” too? 🫣 And more than once MC has to go to the hospital for wanderer related injuries, often accompanied by Xavier, where Dr. Zayne is her primary care physician and he mentions worrying about seeing her among the injured. It makes me think about how someone could be the love of your life in one universe and just your doctor or coworker in another.

2024.05.13 22:04 Silent-Marsupial-560 Try to encode AV1 HDR10+ with SVT-AV1-PSY

Hello,
I tried to encode in AV1 with DoVi and it worked perfectly.
Now I'm trying to encode a source that has DoVi (in profile 8.1 in this case) and HDR10+ but in this case I lose the hdr10+ layer for only simple HDR10. I've also tried encoding seuelemnt with HDR10+ without DoVi and again the encoding doesn't keep the dynamic layer.
I've seen that you can encode HDR10+ in AV1 via Rigaya hardware encoders with NVENC for example, but I don't own any AV1 hardware encoders and besides I don't want to encode with my library of films and series.
Here are the parameters I use via staxrip (with SVT-AV1-PSY 2.0.0-7+6-62325458-.Mod-by-Patman.-x64-msvc1937) :
--rc 0 --crf 27 --progress 3 --enable-hdr 1 --preset 7 --tune 0 --keyint 2s --scd 1 --enable-overlays 1 --color-primaries 9 --transfer-characteristics 16 --matrix-coefficients 9 --chroma-sample-position 2 --mastering-display "G(0.2650,0.6900)B(0.1500,0.0600)R(0.6800,0.3200)WP(0.3127,0.3290)L(1000.0000,0.0050)" --content-light "699,333"
Am I missing something, or does SVT-AV1 still not support HDR10+ encoding?
Thanks!
